- 3:36Speaker 3: Man, hold it down for sure.
- 3:38Speaker 1: We got a lot of these talk about First man,
- 3:40Speaker 1: why are you gonna get young Nat free agency?
- 3:42Speaker 3: Man? Why?
- 3:46Speaker 1: Man?
- 3:49Speaker 4: Because he was rolling when he was rolling with the Hawks, right,
- 3:51Speaker 4: making y'all start team like, first there was we won,
- 3:54Speaker 4: then there was a lockout, right, and then that's when
- 3:57Speaker 4: you started to really kick in with the Hawks, and
- 4:00Speaker 4: then you make the All Star team and you weren't
- 4:01Speaker 4: they weren't letting you go anywhere. Yeah, and by the
- 4:03Speaker 4: time you were free, you weren't quite that All star. Yeah. Sorry, physical.
- 4:17Speaker 4: We were passing on physical when they really talked about you. Right,
- 4:29Speaker 4: we had you brother in a couple of times. But no,
- 4:33Speaker 4: I mean defend. I mean you're one of the few
- 4:34Speaker 4: two way players, right, yeah, so you could say, be
- 4:39Speaker 4: some passer, right, great finisher, but can shoot some Yeah.
- 4:43Speaker 4: You know, I'd make an all star team in this league.
- 4:45Speaker 4: You're doing appreciated. Never heard nobody call him a two
- 4:49Speaker 4: ways votes are like, didn't you get like votes for
- 4:53Speaker 4: defensive Player of the years? That might have been ch
- 5:00Speaker 4: I love my brother Johnny Clinton.
- 5:07Speaker 3: Would have been left.
- 5:09Speaker 1: I'll take you yea whoever DPOY votes U P sent though,
- 5:13Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yo, what.
- 5:17Speaker 4: I just said defensive team?
- 5:19Speaker 3: Okay, make your respect? Yeah very aw, that's all.
- 5:23Speaker 4: This is crazy your uncle right.
- 5:24Speaker 3: Here, Believe it or not, Jess, he is one of
- 5:26Speaker 3: the best defensive point rid.
- 5:27Speaker 1: The Trouble February nineteen, twenty fifteen.
- 5:32Speaker 3: I was sold. I was solid war your rules and
- 5:36Speaker 3: they're showing stuff.
- 5:37Speaker 4: They shut him down, right.
- 5:38Speaker 1: I say that you might have had thirty one but
- 5:42Speaker 1: five Yeah, yeah, you know, I guess so while we're here,
- 5:44Speaker 1: we can look up the game probably of February nineteen
- 5:46Speaker 1: twenty fifteen. But that's okay, okay, he probably couldn't be
- 5:50Speaker 1: forty no word, But listen, man, when I used best alumni,
- 5:54Speaker 1: what made you choose Indiana University?
- 5:56Speaker 4: Man?
- 5:57Speaker 3: Right down.
- 5:58Speaker 4: I was in Pittsburgh where I grew up, and you know,
- 6:01Speaker 4: I didn't have much money, but I wanted to go
- 6:02Speaker 4: to business school. So I saw this of the top
- 6:04Speaker 4: ten business schools and picked out the cheapest one. It
- 6:07Speaker 4: was the one I could afford. So I went to
- 6:09Speaker 4: Bloomington sight unseen, never saw the campus, never visited, just
- 6:14Speaker 4: showed up on my dorm room and went to school.
- 6:17Speaker 3: So you came to you and hadn't you know what
- 6:19Speaker 3: I'm saying, and peeped the scene up.
- 6:20Speaker 4: No, not at all.
- 6:21Speaker 3: You fell immediately, I imagine.
- 6:23Speaker 4: Yo. Yeah, yeah, shout out to Foster quad Shady one
- 6:28Speaker 4: or nine, you know, Foster Quair boy leaving Pittsburgh the
- 6:31Speaker 4: blooms and it's crazy. Oh, I love Pittsburgh. I ever
- 6:34Speaker 4: been to Texas, Brazil? Out there? Yeah, man, that's my ship.
- 6:38Speaker 4: You know, Pittsburgh, Man, I got people out there. Man, Yeah,
- 6:41Speaker 4: that's a beautiful restaurant. Man, that lobster biscuit, and then
- 6:44Speaker 4: real by I couldn't tell you about the lobster biskut there.
- 6:49Speaker 4: I love Sittsburgh. Man, it's gotten better and better and better.
- 6:52Speaker 3: You noticed I got the import of lobster biscuit.
- 6:54Speaker 4: Pittsburgh a little wicked, but the Rivers walk from worse.
- 7:03Speaker 3: Oh yeah, did you grow up many Pittsburgh teams a
- 7:09Speaker 3: local things?
- 7:10Speaker 4: Oh yeah, yeah, of course. I mean that's you know,
- 7:12Speaker 4: my dad, my uncles, everybody was Steelers, Pirates, Penguins, you
- 7:17Speaker 4: name it. Nice and even when like I was a
- 7:20Speaker 4: hoop fan, but it was like the college, so it
- 7:24Speaker 4: was du Cane when Dukne was good. But I was
- 7:28Speaker 4: a kid when they were shooting the Fishes, Save Pittsburgh.
- 7:30Speaker 4: Don't ever hear that movie? No, no, you got to
- 7:33Speaker 4: check it out with Julius Serving. I'm not gonna say
- 7:35Speaker 4: anything more.
- 7:35Speaker 3: I have seen that movie.
- 7:36Speaker 4: Yeah, it's like old old and yeah, Pittsburgh got checked out.
- 7:42Speaker 3: I have seen him.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I still get criticized. I've never seen Hooters and
- 7:45Speaker 1: I went together. I went to about I've never seen Hooters.
- 7:50Speaker 4: I just saw it again the other night. Actually, I
- 7:52Speaker 4: was like don't change that.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Yeah, my my favorite Hoole movie is about the realms
- 8:00Speaker 1: always above rip. You know what I'm saying.
- 8:01Speaker 3: Lo as it is.
- 8:06Speaker 1: Yoah should have saw Tommy Shepherd willtend they had a
- 8:08Speaker 1: bestment rage.
- 8:14Speaker 4: But no.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Obviously, in any university one of the best alumnis. How
- 8:17Speaker 1: does it feel now to be a part of one
- 8:19Speaker 1: of the best alumnis in the world and in the world.
- 8:21Speaker 3: Is you have to be involved with n I l.
- 8:23Speaker 4: Oh my god, it's crazy. Actually it's good for us man,
- 8:26Speaker 4: because it's not even about spending the money. It's just
- 8:29Speaker 4: like coach Sick, who's a Pittsburgh Western Pennsylvania guy, he
- 8:33Speaker 4: understood really quickly that it wasn't like the old days
- 8:37Speaker 4: of college right college sports is no longer college sports.
- 8:41Speaker 4: It's pro sports. And he recognized that like just like
- 8:45Speaker 4: in the NBA, there's potential on there's production, and when
- 8:49Speaker 4: you're only going to have a guy for a year
- 8:51Speaker 4: or two, you need production like right off the bat,
- 8:54Speaker 4: and you want somebody, you know, with your basketball IQ
- 8:57Speaker 4: or football IQ that understands the role because you guys know, man,
- 9:00Speaker 4: and if a guy comes in and he's here in
- 9:02Speaker 4: his head, but his roles here and he doesn't get
- 9:04Speaker 4: that team falls apart. Yes, definitely basketball in football too.
- 9:08Speaker 4: And and coach Sigg understood that he recruits for that,
- 9:11Speaker 4: pays for that like zero five stars like only seven
- 9:15Speaker 4: four stars. Man, that tells you you're getting the right
- 9:17Speaker 4: person for the right job, the right coach to coach them.
- 9:20Speaker 4: And then obviously Mendoza, man, heis Mendoza. That was the difference.
- 9:25Speaker 3: One of the best college football season of all time.
- 9:27Speaker 1: I they be having an arguments about the best team,
- 9:29Speaker 1: best fun but this, in my opinion, the best college
- 9:32Speaker 1: football season of all time.
- 9:33Speaker 3: They won the most games.
- 9:34Speaker 4: Yes, come on, man, yes, I mean it's like the
- 9:38Speaker 4: ultimate underdog Oosier's story, right, Yes, fifty years of suck
- 9:43Speaker 4: ass when you win after fifty years of sucking like true,
- 9:47Speaker 4: like from the time I went to school back in
- 9:49Speaker 4: the day to now, like they don't win anything, like
- 9:53Speaker 4: we need more Top ten teams this year than the
- 9:56Speaker 4: entire history of the program. Yes, yeah, they'd never been
- 9:58Speaker 4: known for football.
- 10:00Speaker 3: How does a football school now though?
- 10:02Speaker 4: Whatever, you know, whatever, wherever you're win, I don't care.
- 10:06Speaker 3: I know I wrote you know.
- 10:09Speaker 4: So I felt like really gay, like all who's your nation?
- 10:13Speaker 4: For like the biggest alumni, right yeah, people just showing up,
- 10:17Speaker 4: like having more fans than Oregon, having more fans in
- 10:20Speaker 4: Alabama and then in Miami's backyard having equal numbers.
- 10:23Speaker 3: They went to the.
- 10:27Speaker 4: Got the game.
- 10:27Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, they're insane. All the people he went in
- 10:31Speaker 2: the airport. Remember it was in the airport. I was like, Bro,
- 10:33Speaker 2: this is we might wipe them out for sure.
- 10:36Speaker 1: Any I mean, we saw a couple, but all we
- 10:38Speaker 1: saw was red shirts the entire place. They took over
- 10:41Speaker 1: the entire city.
- 10:42Speaker 4: Everywhere every where. I love bro because everybody knew that
- 10:45Speaker 4: I had contributed, So everywhere I went, like I buy
- 10:47Speaker 4: a drink and not my money is already.
- 10:52Speaker 3: The little hating now you my group chair, they like,
- 10:55Speaker 3: ain't mark all of us? Which a braid up? You can?
- 11:00Speaker 3: You like me too?
- 11:00Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 11:01Speaker 3: Oh god, yeah it was.
- 11:02Speaker 4: It was cool. It was cool what we got to
- 11:04Speaker 4: do to get that basketball back Roland. Yeah. I think
- 11:06Speaker 4: you know, I've been talking to Scott Dawson and Dad
- 11:09Speaker 4: and just like what I was saying here, like it's
- 11:12Speaker 4: different game. You can't recruit high school kids unless that's
- 11:16Speaker 4: a one and done kid that you know has already
- 11:18Speaker 4: made you know, that one of those kids who go
- 11:21Speaker 4: right to the NBA and start right off the bat,
- 11:24Speaker 4: because you need people that. I mean, you if one
- 11:27Speaker 4: team can get a kid like Illinois, right, Illinois I
- 11:31Speaker 4: think has figured out. I think they've got a good
- 11:32Speaker 4: shot to win. I know, Michigan's got more talent, right,
- 11:35Speaker 4: but they got four dudes that are like forty years
- 11:38Speaker 4: old and right from Serbia. First of all, this Vocking Nations.
- 11:43Speaker 4: You know, they know how to play, right, and they
- 11:47Speaker 4: start playing professional like young, you know, fifteen, sixteen seventeen,
- 11:52Speaker 4: and then they're playing on their city team, then the
- 11:54Speaker 4: country team, and so they've been through all the big
- 11:57Speaker 4: games and then they try to make euro League and
- 11:59Speaker 4: if they can't make it or you know, then they
- 12:02Speaker 4: go to college because that's the next best paying job.
- 12:05Speaker 4: And so you know, I was looking. The Illinois Biggs
- 12:08Speaker 4: are like twenty two, twenty three, and they're sophomores, you know, yes, crazy,
- 12:12Speaker 4: you know, I mean, and they've been through the wars
- 12:15Speaker 4: their men, they're grown ass men. They've played against grown
- 12:18Speaker 4: ass men. They know how to be physical because the
- 12:20Speaker 4: game over there is more like college than it is NBA. Right,
- 12:25Speaker 4: So I think that gives an edge, and I've been
- 12:26Speaker 4: trying to get Indiana to try to focus on that. Now,
- 12:31Speaker 4: coach is going to do what coach wants to do,
- 12:32Speaker 4: a d is going to do. We got a guy,
- 12:34Speaker 4: Ryan Carr from the Pacers, just just started working there,
- 12:37Speaker 4: is really really good. Yeah, you know, and so Ryan
- 12:40Speaker 4: knows the shit, and so you know, he knows all
- 12:43Speaker 4: this stuff. So we'll see where we go.
- 12:45Speaker 1: It's interesting to say that because it's t he comes
- 12:46Speaker 1: all the man and he's got some really good kids,
- 12:49Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, with potential to play in
- 12:50Speaker 1: college as well. It's interesting those kids their job, well
- 12:53Speaker 1: the jobs they could get in college are getting.
- 12:55Speaker 3: Slim and slim and slim. You're getting cut. Yeah, It's like,
- 12:59Speaker 3: what do you do now if you're high school kid?
- 13:00Speaker 1: Because I'm gonna get that grown man in the portal
- 13:02Speaker 1: with three mouths of feet because he gonna play his
- 13:03Speaker 1: hard out.
- 13:04Speaker 4: But no, cho, this is it. Yeah, he ain't playing
- 13:07Speaker 4: in the NBA and he maybe goes overseas, but this
- 13:10Speaker 4: is where he's making real money. And you know, so
- 13:12Speaker 4: you're right, they're gonna play hard out. But high school
- 13:15Speaker 4: kids got to go D two, you know, mid major
- 13:18Speaker 4: and you know, now you'll go to Saint Louis or
- 13:21Speaker 4: you'll go to Miami of Ohio, get paid a little bit,
- 13:24Speaker 4: but then you prove out give it a lot.
- 13:27Speaker 3: Yeah, for sure, that's the interest.
- 13:28Speaker 1: You say like that because we were talking like it's
- 13:30Speaker 1: literally one year deals now, like one of your deals
- 13:32Speaker 1: in college and ain't for your scholarships.
- 13:33Speaker 3: It's one of your deals. If you're good, great, you
- 13:36Speaker 3: can move on to the portal.
- 13:37Speaker 4: Great. But that's what I like about it though, that
- 13:40Speaker 4: is straight one year because it.
- 13:42Speaker 3: Can go either way and have a good year, you
- 13:44Speaker 3: move up.
- 13:44Speaker 4: You have a bad year, Yeah, you're you're unemployed. You
- 13:48Speaker 4: know it's a job, right, you're literally unemployed. You got cut.
- 13:51Speaker 3: I never thought about it that. I wonder if you
- 13:53Speaker 3: if I had a last year, I thought this year,
- 13:56Speaker 3: I'm a coach.
- 13:57Speaker 1: I'm going literally like, don't like if I gave you
- 14:00Speaker 1: undred thousand years before and you didn't play well, and
- 14:02Speaker 1: be like, well, if you want to come back, I
- 14:03Speaker 1: got twenty thousand forty for real and you're going to
- 14:06Speaker 1: leave for real?
- 14:06Speaker 4: Yeah, Or you're getting a forty thousand dollars scholarship that's
- 14:09Speaker 4: your money, you know. I like this it's it's hard.
- 14:13Speaker 2: It's hard on it though that put that may I
- 14:16Speaker 2: think that gives the kids a reason to work harder though,
- 14:19Speaker 2: for sure, because if you get a million. I was
- 14:22Speaker 2: just talking to Jamie them about that. If you get
- 14:23Speaker 2: a million and the next year somebody offer you two
- 14:26Speaker 2: hundred thousand, you're pissed.
- 14:27Speaker 4: Oh yeah, But Jeff knows, like how many dudes came
- 14:31Speaker 4: into the league that you were teammates with that didn't
- 14:34Speaker 4: know how to use a credit card, didn't know what
- 14:36Speaker 4: a checking account was, and all that. So from an
- 14:38Speaker 4: NBA perspective, like we had one dude, I won't I
- 14:40Speaker 4: won't bust them, but never to opened up a credit uh,
- 14:43Speaker 4: never had a credit card, didn't know how to checking
- 14:46Speaker 4: the account worked, you know, none of that stuff, and
- 14:49Speaker 4: just was lost and blew his money. Now, from the
- 14:52Speaker 4: NBA perspective, NAL was great for sure, right because you're
- 14:55Speaker 4: staying in school longer. They learned how to manage their
- 14:58Speaker 4: money all that stuff. So that's a positive. But on
- 15:01Speaker 4: the negative side, parents know, you know, and the whole
- 15:05Speaker 4: AAU scene just gets even worse is that money's coming
- 15:08Speaker 4: in sooner. There's kids getting n AL money in high
- 15:11Speaker 4: school now yeah, no, I mean that's brutal, brutal for
- 15:17Speaker 4: so we imagine being an agent now nah, I couldn't
- 15:22Speaker 4: at all for what chasing like sixteen year old kids.
- 15:27Speaker 3: Around you au trying is looking filthy.
- 15:30Speaker 4: Yeah, but a tournaments like are stacked right, they're like
- 15:36Speaker 4: and the parents getting nasty because the money's right there.
- 15:40Speaker 4: Used to be NBA, you were like one of four fifty.
- 15:42Speaker 4: Now there's what you there's probably you know, fifty thousand.
- 15:46Speaker 4: Not no, that's not right. So there's what two hundred
- 15:48Speaker 4: schools and say the top five on average, So a
- 15:51Speaker 4: thousand kids are getting paid in college and maybe twenty
- 15:53Speaker 4: are getting paid in high school. That's a lot to
- 15:56Speaker 4: chase right there.
- 15:57Speaker 3: Well ye chase.
- 15:58Speaker 1: You know, mys when we did the first of D's
- 16:01Speaker 1: Occupation and we saw the n I L kids and
- 16:03Speaker 1: the like, yeah they're athletes, I'm like, damn it, sixteen Like.
- 16:07Speaker 3: It took me. It took me five years to get
- 16:08Speaker 3: the NBA.
- 16:13Speaker 4: But at least you know, and the cool part is
- 16:14Speaker 4: like when Jeff played, the stories were great about guys
- 16:17Speaker 4: getting paid right you know under the table, ye not
- 16:20Speaker 4: sit there and just laugh. Yeah, I got two fifty
- 16:22Speaker 4: and you know, three hundred for real, but now it's
- 16:25Speaker 4: just above the book.
- 16:26Speaker 3: Yeah. I thought, my little te k I killed them
- 16:31Speaker 3: chill outs. They just got me in.
- 16:37Speaker 4: One.
- 16:40Speaker 3: Yeah, I just got the Hall of fame. All right.
- 16:48Speaker 1: I want to ask you one question I never got
- 16:50Speaker 1: to ask another human being this. What was that feeling
- 16:53Speaker 1: like when you made your first billion dollars?
- 16:54Speaker 4: I was naked? What where do we go for me?
- 17:04Speaker 4: I mean you so like when our stock so I
- 17:20Speaker 4: had a company was we started the streaming industry. It
- 17:23Speaker 4: was called Broadcast dot com, first streaming company, and so
- 17:26Speaker 4: we went public, biggest I p on the history of
- 17:27Speaker 4: the stock market at the time. First day jump, and
- 17:30Speaker 4: our stock kept on going up, and I knew what
- 17:32Speaker 4: what the price had to be. And I'd get up
- 17:34Speaker 4: every morning to go to work, and I checked the stock,
- 17:37Speaker 4: you know before I you know, before I run into
- 17:39Speaker 4: the bathroom address and I was closed, right, So I
- 17:42Speaker 4: had to go back and check again because I was
- 17:44Speaker 4: showering after the market open hit, you know, my little
- 17:47Speaker 4: F five on my PC, and I just did my
- 17:49Speaker 4: little in the shower, went to work. I had to
- 17:56Speaker 4: keep the stock in the bank. Cook.
- 18:00Speaker 3: Yeah, that'd been my last day.
- 18:02Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, you gotta keep working, man. That is fire
- 18:07Speaker 4: is fine. What was your first line of hustle, Like,
- 18:09Speaker 4: what was the first thing that shooting? Oh my god,
- 18:11Speaker 4: I was like when I was eight nine years old
- 18:13Speaker 4: in Pittsburgh. When I was eight nine years of Pittsburgh,
- 18:17Speaker 4: I used to go buy baseball cards and then there
- 18:19Speaker 4: was a park down the street and with a table,
- 18:23Speaker 4: and I used to just set up and i'd repackage him.
- 18:26Speaker 4: So I'd say, okay, it cost me ten cents, twenty
- 18:28Speaker 4: five cents whatever, and then i'd repackaged him for a
- 18:30Speaker 4: dollar for a package, and I'd say there'd be a
- 18:32Speaker 4: Pittsburgh Pirate card in there, right, because all kids wanted
- 18:35Speaker 4: the local team. And so that was my first hustle.
- 18:38Speaker 4: My second hustle was I asked my dad. My dad
- 18:41Speaker 4: and his buddies used to play poker at different houses, right,
- 18:44Speaker 4: So they come over and they were, you know, yucking
- 18:47Speaker 4: it up. And I went in there to get donuts
- 18:49Speaker 4: or whatever, and I was like, Dad, I need a
- 18:50Speaker 4: new pair of shoes, new pair of basketball shoes. Looks
- 18:52Speaker 4: at me and he's like, those shoes work. When you
- 18:55Speaker 4: have a job, you can buy whatever you want. One
- 18:57Speaker 4: of his buddies that he was playing with, was like, hey,
- 18:59Speaker 4: I got all these boxes of garbage bags that you
- 19:02Speaker 4: can go around the neighborhood and sell. I'm like, Dad,
- 19:04Speaker 4: can I And He's like sure. So literally I had
- 19:07Speaker 4: the world's first garbage bag route and it was great.
- 19:10Speaker 3: Right.
- 19:10Speaker 4: I walk up the doors meagine the twelve year old Mark, Hi,
- 19:15Speaker 4: my name is Mark. Do you use garbage bags? And
- 19:20Speaker 4: I bought him for three sold him for six, and
- 19:22Speaker 4: just bam, bam bam until I sold out. Made some
- 19:24Speaker 4: money there. I sold magazines store to door because once
- 19:27Speaker 4: I learned I could sell everything got easy. Yeah, and
- 19:29Speaker 4: I was just whatever hustle.
- 19:31Speaker 3: Yeah, man, you saw I was going door to door.
- 19:33Speaker 4: Oh man, if you can sell door to door, you
- 19:35Speaker 4: always have a job.
- 19:36Speaker 3: Shouts to the people who did cutco door. You wasn't.
- 19:43Speaker 3: I got that too.
- 19:47Speaker 4: I was selling the magazine's door to door when I
- 19:48Speaker 4: was sixteen, and there were just you know, three things. Yes,
- 19:51Speaker 4: I made a deal, No, I got shut out. Three.
- 19:54Speaker 4: Some hot mom answered the door. I was like, hello,
- 19:59Speaker 4: what was you? The trash bays go for I sold
- 20:02Speaker 4: him for six bucks a bag, I mean at six
- 20:04Speaker 4: bucks a box of.
- 20:17Speaker 3: All right, man, what made you want to buy Dallas Mavericks.
- 20:21Speaker 4: So I'd always been a basketball junk gam you know,
- 20:23Speaker 4: I still play pickup and get out there and shoot
- 20:26Speaker 4: and all that. And so I have season tickets to
- 20:30Speaker 4: the Maps. And it was the ninety nine two thousand season,
- 20:34Speaker 4: and I was there with my then girlfriend now wife,
- 20:36Speaker 4: and my brothers and everything, and you know, it's the
- 20:39Speaker 4: start of the season, the first game. We're undefeated, and
- 20:41Speaker 4: we got Finley, we got Nash, we got Sean Bradley,
- 20:46Speaker 4: we got Dirk. And I'm like, Okay, you know, I
- 20:50Speaker 4: don't know if we're going to be good, but at
- 20:51Speaker 4: least it's the first game of the season. I can
- 20:53Speaker 4: do better than this. And so I talked to my
- 20:55Speaker 4: sales rep. And the guy who owned him was a
- 20:57Speaker 4: guy named Rossboro Junior, who didn't know anything about basketball,
- 21:01Speaker 4: didn't care. It was a real estate deal for him.
- 21:03Speaker 4: And so I was like, I just sold my business.
- 21:06Speaker 4: I'm going to get paid. And so I worked out
- 21:08Speaker 4: a deal in Bottom for two eighty five. Damn listen.
- 21:13Speaker 4: All was about three four weeks. And I didn't even negotiate.
- 21:16Speaker 4: Didn't even negotiate. It was just like, yes, let's go
- 21:20Speaker 4: to a five and you sold it for how much
- 21:23Speaker 4: for in a little bit and then never gonna say
- 21:26Speaker 4: I screwed up. I could have gotten more, but we
- 21:29Speaker 4: won't go.
- 21:29Speaker 3: Into the.

- 22:57Speaker 5: What was it?
- 22:58Speaker 4: Lake George?
- 22:58Speaker 3: What was it like when you find like got the team?
- 23:01Speaker 4: Oh my god, it was a blast. I was a
- 23:04Speaker 4: kid in the candy store, right yeah. I was playing
- 23:07Speaker 4: one on one with Dirk. I beat him two to one.
- 23:10Speaker 4: I got up two oh, missed a shot. He dunked
- 23:13Speaker 4: on me. I quit. You know, I'd get out there
- 23:16Speaker 4: and shoot ask Richard Jefferson if you ever see him
- 23:19Speaker 4: about shooting before games, just shooting for money and stuff.
- 23:22Speaker 4: I mean just going out before games and just being
- 23:24Speaker 4: able to get shots up, you know, getting in little
- 23:27Speaker 4: runs with the staff and everything. I mean, it was
- 23:29Speaker 4: it was a dream. And then and obviously the games
- 23:31Speaker 4: and you know we had sucked for so long, and
- 23:34Speaker 4: then Dirk and Nash and Finn came around. Yeah, and
- 23:37Speaker 4: then all of a sudden we were for real and
- 23:39Speaker 4: that was fun.
- 23:40Speaker 1: Did the other owners receive you with good or bad?
- 23:43Speaker 1: I guess I could tell a little bit different way. Yeah.
- 23:47Speaker 4: I was like the Internet dude that they didn't understand.
- 23:49Speaker 4: And David Stern, to his credit, was like, you know,
- 23:51Speaker 4: he's young. Don't pay attention to what he says. He
- 23:55Speaker 4: can help us because he understands technology. But I remember
- 23:58Speaker 4: there was one guy, like older guys that were like
- 24:02Speaker 4: in their late seventies eighties, and one of them it
- 24:07Speaker 4: was like I I was talking about something and he goes,
- 24:12Speaker 4: shut your ass up until you've done something in this league.
- 24:15Speaker 4: Shut the f And David Stern was like like stop stop.
- 24:21Speaker 4: So I was like, what's your name again? Called him
- 24:27Speaker 4: by the wrong names and everything and so they're thinking
- 24:29Speaker 4: any better. So but yeah, they didn't. They didn't take
- 24:35Speaker 4: real kindly to me. And then obviously the league kept
- 24:38Speaker 4: on finding me for everything.
- 24:39Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:40Speaker 4: Like I remember like one of my first games in Minnesota,
- 24:44Speaker 4: and remember.
- 24:45Speaker 3: That guy I used to sit there with up.
- 24:48Speaker 4: Anyways, I decided I wanted to get to know all
- 24:51Speaker 4: the different jobs on the team, and so you know,
- 24:54Speaker 4: there's the trainers and everything, and the equipment managers. Sometimes
- 24:57Speaker 4: they'll just sit on the floor right right by the bench.
- 25:00Speaker 4: So I sat down there on the floor just talk
- 25:02Speaker 4: to him during the game, just to get to know
- 25:03Speaker 4: their job and everything. And they find me for one
- 25:06Speaker 4: hundred and fifty thousand dollars for conduct not becoming an owner. Wow,
- 25:09Speaker 4: because you're not supposed to do that, and you know,
- 25:12Speaker 4: and then i'd get into the refs and all that,
- 25:15Speaker 4: and it was yeah, I just went downhill from there.
- 25:17Speaker 4: But I didn't care. What was the hardest part about
- 25:20Speaker 4: your job being losing? Yeah, that was that was it.
- 25:24Speaker 4: That was the hardest part always because winning is good,
- 25:28Speaker 4: but it's not as hard as losing as bad. You know,
- 25:31Speaker 4: it's just because you think you've done all the right
- 25:33Speaker 4: things and then it doesn't turn out, somebody gets hurt
- 25:36Speaker 4: and other team's just better, and you know that just
- 25:39Speaker 4: killed me.
- 25:40Speaker 3: Safely, say, you wouldn't have been a person who was
- 25:42Speaker 3: pro tanking, I imagine.
- 25:44Speaker 4: You know, But how else you rebuild teams?
- 25:46Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 25:46Speaker 4: Yeah, Like we had ten years in a row where
- 25:48Speaker 4: we won fifty plus games, Like I didn't have a
- 25:51Speaker 4: losing season until fifteen, sixteen years in so we didn't
- 25:55Speaker 4: really have to tank till we had to tank, you know,
- 25:57Speaker 4: once Dirk was done, it was like, okay, how do
- 26:00Speaker 4: you rebuild? And so all this talk about tanking isn't
- 26:03Speaker 4: really about, you know, trying to get the best draft,
- 26:06Speaker 4: because like, one, even if you have the worst record,
- 26:10Speaker 4: you still have an eighty six percent chance of not
- 26:12Speaker 4: getting the best pick.
- 26:14Speaker 3: Right.
- 26:14Speaker 4: Two, you don't know if it's going to be a
- 26:16Speaker 4: good draft or not. There's lots of number one pick over.
- 26:19Speaker 3: Lest no disrespect, tell me about it, though, my hawk's
- 26:21Speaker 3: got the number one pick.
- 26:23Speaker 4: Chill to the store.
- 26:24Speaker 3: I'm yeah, it's right, right, I mean, the kid can play, right,
- 26:27Speaker 3: it's not.
- 26:28Speaker 4: There's a difference between being able to play and being
- 26:31Speaker 4: a generational player, right, And if you don't get a
- 26:34Speaker 4: generational player, like, so you got to say there's a
- 26:36Speaker 4: generational player once every four drafts, right, So that's twenty
- 26:40Speaker 4: five percent, So you've got twenty one fourth, you know,
- 26:43Speaker 4: and eighty six percent chance of not getting it. So
- 26:46Speaker 4: tanking isn't really the best option. But when you when
- 26:50Speaker 4: you're when you're ass right, you're typically under the cap, right,
- 26:55Speaker 4: and so when you're under the cap, you have a
- 26:58Speaker 4: chance to use your cap room to take players in
- 27:00Speaker 4: to get draft picks. And getting draft picks is how
- 27:03Speaker 4: you rebuild, yes, And so you know, if you're going
- 27:06Speaker 4: to try to stop tanking, it's more about the other
- 27:09Speaker 4: things that you do, Like you know, when you see
- 27:11Speaker 4: the teams that have been patient and build teams like
- 27:14Speaker 4: Oka see like san Antonio. Two things has got to happen. One,
- 27:18Speaker 4: you want to try to collect picks, right, so that
- 27:20Speaker 4: when that draft that's good happens, maybe you're there. Because
- 27:24Speaker 4: you look how they get Tatum and Jay Brown, you know,
- 27:28Speaker 4: and so how did they get Wemby? Right, they had
- 27:30Speaker 4: the fifth worst record and they ended up with Wemby.
- 27:33Speaker 4: You know, you got to be a little bit lucky,
- 27:35Speaker 4: and then you got to maybe make a lucky trade,
- 27:37Speaker 4: like you know, PG for SGA, you got to be lucky,
- 27:41Speaker 4: and so it's not so much about how do you
- 27:43Speaker 4: get the worst record, it's what are the tools you
- 27:46Speaker 4: have to rebuild? And as long as you let teams
- 27:50Speaker 4: collect five, six, seven, eight, nine number ones, teams are
- 27:55Speaker 4: going to do all they can to stay underneath the cap.
- 27:58Speaker 4: If you say you can only be under the cap
- 27:59Speaker 4: for two years, you'll see everybody change behavior completely and
- 28:03Speaker 4: all that will change.
- 28:04Speaker 3: Now. I answer this question because they've been implemented this year.
- 28:06Speaker 1: They're starting to is this new what they're doing, like
- 28:09Speaker 1: going to interview the teams or the trainee staff to
- 28:11Speaker 1: see if players are action.
- 28:14Speaker 3: It's just more flavorant now, just because of.
- 28:16Speaker 4: How this year, because I just think the league's under
- 28:19Speaker 4: a lot of pressure. And shout out to Adam Silverman.
- 28:21Speaker 4: He's had to put up with a lot of shit.
- 28:22Speaker 4: This hit Oh my god. I mean sure, you know,
- 28:25Speaker 4: and and he's done a good job, right. You might
- 28:27Speaker 4: not agree with everything he's done, but to be able
- 28:29Speaker 4: to lead all that it is not easy, and so
- 28:33Speaker 4: he deserves a lot of credit. And I just think,
- 28:35Speaker 4: you know, all all that stuff adds up, the gambling
- 28:39Speaker 4: stuff and the players and all that and then you know,
- 28:43Speaker 4: people talking about tanking, and it just adds up, adds up,
- 28:48Speaker 4: adds up, and then you've got to respond at some
- 28:50Speaker 4: point because it just gets to you. And so I
- 28:52Speaker 4: think it's not that this year is different, even though
- 28:55Speaker 4: it's a good draft class. It's just that I just
- 28:58Speaker 4: think he just reached his limit, you know. But I
- 29:02Speaker 4: don't think changing the odds for draft picks is going
- 29:05Speaker 4: to change anything because like I saw one, Okay, the
- 29:08Speaker 4: bottom ten teams all get a six percent chance. People
- 29:10Speaker 4: are going to take more because anybody else. And so
- 29:15Speaker 4: you know, he's got a tough job, and I get
- 29:18Speaker 4: him credit for just trying to grind it out when
- 29:21Speaker 4: we get the next year and it's not as good
- 29:22Speaker 4: as draft. But the other part of it is, dudes
- 29:24Speaker 4: are just better coming into the league now. I mean
- 29:27Speaker 4: the skill set set, would you agree except for your
- 29:31Speaker 4: year of course, two thousand and nine.
- 29:33Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I think guys, I think it was
- 29:34Speaker 1: really good guys. But like I think this draft has
- 29:37Speaker 1: some special players, but previous years drafts not.
- 29:39Speaker 4: As Yeah, but I just think guys are getting better
- 29:42Speaker 4: because like when you were growing up, you watch games
- 29:45Speaker 4: on TV, right, you don't really have the internet to
- 29:48Speaker 4: do all that stuff. Now, anybody puts something out on
- 29:51Speaker 4: Instagram or TikTok or YouTube, every twelve year old, thirteen
- 29:56Speaker 4: year old, fourteen year old is trying to see it.
- 29:58Speaker 4: So you see handles like twelve year old games, right,
- 30:02Speaker 4: guys are doing it like, you know, doing the sham
- 30:04Speaker 4: guy and everything like it's nothing. And guys you know
- 30:07Speaker 4: back in the day didn't have that type.
- 30:09Speaker 3: Of hand No, that's a fact.
- 30:10Speaker 4: That's a good one. You got. That's like, OT we
- 30:12Speaker 4: go to OC, how little little kids feel about them.
- 30:15Speaker 1: All it is, Yeah, paying attention on the T and
- 30:17Speaker 1: OC just THEYD now today that makes a change. They
- 30:20Speaker 1: they're wanted some more of two prep schools. I believe
- 30:23Speaker 1: it's the new league.
- 30:24Speaker 4: Oh they're not done doing the league anymore.
- 30:26Speaker 3: Yeah they're.
- 30:28Speaker 4: Yeah, cause a little bit, I bet. I'm just saying.
- 30:34Speaker 4: That's exactly what I told him when they came and
- 30:36Speaker 4: asked me for investment like years ago. I said, that's
- 30:38Speaker 4: going to be expensive. It's hard to make money doing
- 30:40Speaker 4: the league, right, and it's just when you're dealing with
- 30:43Speaker 4: little kids like that.
- 30:45Speaker 1: Yeah, it's their parents, man. Yeah, so OC came to
- 30:49Speaker 1: you to be the shark type man.
- 30:50Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, a little bit. Yeah. I mean they reached
- 30:52Speaker 4: out to a lot of people. I just didn't see it.
- 30:55Speaker 4: But they're killing I mean, apparently they're making a lot
- 30:57Speaker 4: of money.
- 30:57Speaker 1: So sure were talking about generational talent. You got a
- 31:02Speaker 1: chance to drive Luca a right and did you know
- 31:06Speaker 1: he was generationally.
- 31:08Speaker 4: We hoped, but we didn't know.
- 31:09Speaker 3: You never know, Yeah, yeah, you never know. But when
- 31:11Speaker 3: you watched the film, did you like, yeah, this guy, oh.
- 31:13Speaker 4: We had like we knew we had a chance to
- 31:15Speaker 4: be a starter and to be good because he was
- 31:20Speaker 4: ballsy man. He was fearless and that's half the battle.
- 31:24Speaker 4: And but you still don't know, Like I remember watching
- 31:27Speaker 4: him play at sixteen against ok C and him going
- 31:30Speaker 4: right by Russ. But it's you know, NBA versus Real Madrid.
- 31:34Speaker 4: You don't know how hard the guys are trying. There's
- 31:36Speaker 4: no preparation, the rules are different and all that. But
- 31:39Speaker 4: I mean we gave up a pick and traded up
- 31:42Speaker 4: to get him, and you know, we hoped. But then
- 31:45Speaker 4: I remember going we went to China for our first
- 31:48Speaker 4: preseason games, and I was sitting with Sean mary And
- 31:51Speaker 4: and Steven Jackson and the whole game of like, what
- 31:54Speaker 4: do you think because I'm terrified because you don't know,
- 31:56Speaker 4: and they're like, oh my god, Oh my god. And
- 31:58Speaker 4: then guys in practice would say and you'd watch him
- 32:00Speaker 4: practice every game he'd win as a rookie, and so
- 32:04Speaker 4: you knew he was special. Yeah, you just didn't know
- 32:06Speaker 4: how special.
- 32:07Speaker 1: We played him early in the season that year and
- 32:10Speaker 1: they had me guard Hi because he was the point guard.
- 32:12Speaker 3: I'm like, what the hell am I going to do
- 32:13Speaker 3: with this dude? Bro two and forty five pins? It
- 32:16Speaker 3: was just posting me up, pump, fake layup, just.
- 32:19Speaker 4: Ohoh, And you think you could just stay in front
- 32:20Speaker 4: of Yeah.
- 32:21Speaker 3: I went straight to West Matthews. I got it, I
- 32:25Speaker 3: got you. We're gonna stay on this perimeter.
- 32:27Speaker 1: So I want to ask, what's that conversation, Like what
- 32:29Speaker 1: the Hawks y'all prepare to make that trade? Like were
- 32:31Speaker 1: they looking into him? So obviously it's one of I
- 32:33Speaker 1: know people try to give judgment, but Trey Luca trade
- 32:37Speaker 1: two All stars hell accompassed on both sides, But what's
- 32:40Speaker 1: that conversation?
- 32:40Speaker 4: Like they it went down to the last minute, like literally,
- 32:44Speaker 4: you got fifteen minutes between picks in the first round
- 32:47Speaker 4: and we were down to like five six minutes left
- 32:51Speaker 4: and we were at five and the Hawks were at three.
- 32:54Speaker 4: And I called the Hawk's owner and I'm like, our
- 32:56Speaker 4: general managers aren't getting this done. You know, whatever it
- 32:59Speaker 4: is you want to do, can you get your general
- 33:01Speaker 4: manager to call ours and make a decision. And they
- 33:05Speaker 4: said they decided they wanted tray and so we threw
- 33:08Speaker 4: in the first and the rest is history. Damn. It
- 33:11Speaker 4: was down to the wires. Down to the wire. That
- 33:16Speaker 4: wasn't bad though. Overachieved actually, and they see it.
- 33:22Speaker 3: My favorite players of all time and Luis, can you
- 33:27Speaker 3: do something we talked about?
- 33:29Speaker 1: Boy, Lucas, boy, that would have generation. They standing next
- 33:39Speaker 1: to each other already, Bro, it's.
- 33:42Speaker 3: All good thing.
- 33:43Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 33:43Speaker 4: It was your favorite Maps team, man, my favorite Maps
- 33:47Speaker 4: team at twenty eleven obviously when we won. Yeah, that
- 33:50Speaker 4: was that's your favorite squad. Yeah of course, Yeah.
- 33:53Speaker 3: I heard the party was unreal.
- 33:55Speaker 2: Yeah, that's why I kind of well, had a good time.
- 34:03Speaker 2: He's look at it, he's excited, you know. Well what
- 34:13Speaker 2: was that night like though?
- 34:14Speaker 4: Man? When live right? Oh? Yeah, because Jason Dry took over,
- 34:19Speaker 4: that was like, okay, we're getting these buses. We're all
- 34:20Speaker 4: going to live. I'm like, cool, let's go, and everybody
- 34:23Speaker 4: had family and everything. We just went there and tore
- 34:24Speaker 4: it up. And then one of the owners maybe or whoever,
- 34:29Speaker 4: came up to me and they're like, hey, we got
- 34:31Speaker 4: this one hundred and forty thousand dollars bottle of champagne.
- 34:34Speaker 4: And Dirk is right there he goes yes, and so
- 34:39Speaker 4: I'm like, okay, whatever, I mean, I'm feeling no pain.
- 34:42Speaker 4: I get out my black and I give him the
- 34:44Speaker 4: carb and then Dirk ten minutes lam like where is it? Right?
- 34:48Speaker 4: Then I get a tap on the shoulder like mister Cuban,
- 34:51Speaker 4: hey come here. And so I got to go to
- 34:52Speaker 4: the back of the office. My card got declined, and
- 34:55Speaker 4: you know how when you get a new car card,
- 34:56Speaker 4: you gotta sign it all in. I hadn't done that, yep,
- 34:59Speaker 4: And so had to get on the phone and like
- 35:01Speaker 4: they weren't going to approve it. So I get on
- 35:03Speaker 4: the phone call Amex and they're like, I'm sorry, sir.
- 35:06Speaker 4: I'm like, did you watch TV today? Did you watch
- 35:09Speaker 4: basketball the finals today?
- 35:11Speaker 1: You know? You know?
- 35:12Speaker 4: And then can I talk to your manager? And they
- 35:14Speaker 4: finally approved it, and yeah, the pictures are great of
- 35:17Speaker 4: us just huge bottle them.
- 35:21Speaker 3: Your face with Max is crazy because I'm mark you.
- 35:24Speaker 4: At least I think credit cards bet up before of
- 35:31Speaker 4: the past, I've been there.
- 35:32Speaker 1: At least job they were nice, were nice, whiskey man,
- 35:40Speaker 1: we'll get it back. Come on, put up, we're talking
- 35:44Speaker 1: about you getting the ship now in six what was
- 35:46Speaker 1: that feeling like?
- 35:47Speaker 4: That was not there? And that was smoke that Oh
- 35:51Speaker 4: we up? Yeah they got a little help though. I'm
- 35:54Speaker 4: not gonna lie, but I'll tell you. I'll tell you
- 35:58Speaker 4: where once I remember like where. It's third quarter, We're
- 36:02Speaker 4: up like fourteen, and I'm standing up thinking, oh shit,
- 36:05Speaker 4: we might sweep these guys, and I jinxed just immediately
- 36:08Speaker 4: when I thought that, right, Not two seconds later, Ud
- 36:11Speaker 4: steals the ball, goes in and cuts the lead a
- 36:14Speaker 4: little bit. Two minutes later, Shaq pushes Eric damp Here
- 36:19Speaker 4: pushes the shit out. They called the foul on damp
- 36:22Speaker 4: I'm thinking, Shaq's not going to make these swish swish, right,
- 36:26Speaker 4: And then the whole series just went south from there.
- 36:27Speaker 4: We don't win another game. The way looked unreal. Yeah, Hey, Bennett,
- 36:32Speaker 4: Salvador was crazy. I've never seen anybody drive like Bennette.
- 36:47Speaker 4: Oh man, I just you know, whatever it's done, it's
- 36:51Speaker 4: like forever ago, twenty years ago. That's crazy, but it's
- 36:54Speaker 4: still fun to fuck with them.
- 36:57Speaker 1: Is there any free agency or any situation you almost
- 37:00Speaker 1: had but felt the last minute that you was working on.
- 37:04Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean obviously DeAndre Jordan. Yeah, that was kind
- 37:08Speaker 4: of a clusterfuck. Yeah. And then the other one was
- 37:14Speaker 4: we had to make a decision. I thought we were
- 37:15Speaker 4: going to get Dwight Holler.
- 37:16Speaker 5: Oh.
- 37:17Speaker 4: And that was the same year that Giannis came out,
- 37:23Speaker 4: and so we because we had been talking to his
- 37:27Speaker 4: agent and made us think that, Okay, we've got a really,
- 37:30Speaker 4: really good shot. But if we drafted right where we
- 37:33Speaker 4: could have gotten Yannis, we wouldn't have had enough cap room.
- 37:36Speaker 4: So we had to trade down to try to free
- 37:37Speaker 4: up some caproom. And we were hoping that Yiannis would fall,
- 37:40Speaker 4: and he didn't, and we didn't get Dwight Howard didn't happen,
- 37:44Speaker 4: didn't get Yannis, you know, but if we had gotten
- 37:47Speaker 4: and we never would have gotten Luca, you know, because
- 37:49Speaker 4: it would have been we never would have been in
- 37:51Speaker 4: that draft position. True. True, So I worked at house
- 37:54Speaker 4: supposed to you got the better player.
- 37:56Speaker 3: M that's debatable.
- 37:59Speaker 4: We're here champion, huh champion who it wasn't Giannice's team.
- 38:06Speaker 3: That was, Yes, I carry.
- 38:12Speaker 4: Harry the well, if you got both of.
- 38:19Speaker 2: Them in the draft, you take an honest both of
- 38:23Speaker 2: them are all Paul that's crazy.
- 38:25Speaker 4: Excuse me, excuse my language.
- 38:27Speaker 3: Excuse me. It's a family show. I probably would take.
- 38:33Speaker 4: And Luke Early.
- 38:34Speaker 3: This is four.
- 38:35Speaker 1: You're saying, like I'm saying player. He's saying in the
- 38:38Speaker 1: draft it took Luca. We didn't know, yeah, because all
- 38:40Speaker 1: we had Joannest.
- 38:41Speaker 4: We had like literally I remember sitting in the war
- 38:43Speaker 4: room and we had two VHS tapes of this kid
- 38:46Speaker 4: that looks like he's twelve years old, six eleven playing
- 38:48Speaker 4: against guys who looked like they were twelve years old
- 38:51Speaker 4: in a Greek league. So you don't really know, but
- 38:53Speaker 4: our scouts like, yeah, he's the real deal.
- 38:55Speaker 1: He's the real deal VHS at that time period, because
- 38:57Speaker 1: it was still like mid too.
- 38:58Speaker 3: Yeah, that's crazy playing at super low level winger. Yeah,
- 39:01Speaker 3: like the second or third was like in the basement
- 39:04Speaker 3: in Atlanta.
- 39:04Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah, remember, yeah, I remember the fact that
- 39:09Speaker 1: they had him all tuck like that. It still didn't
- 39:11Speaker 1: get him. It's crazy because they was. They were supposed
- 39:13Speaker 1: to trade with the Masks. Y'all got Luke uh Shane Larkin. Yeah,
- 39:18Speaker 1: they it was whatever the pick was.
- 39:20Speaker 4: We were twelve, I think.
- 39:21Speaker 1: Yeah, they wanted to trade two picks. We ended up
- 39:24Speaker 1: getting Stroder and a dude named Luca Uh. I forgot
- 39:26Speaker 1: this tall yeah, long carrys like six nine sixteen. But
- 39:30Speaker 1: we were supposed to trade both of those picks to.
- 39:32Speaker 3: Whoever, maybe Milwaukee. It might have been Milwaukee, but we
- 39:35Speaker 3: didn't trade him.
- 39:36Speaker 4: Yeah, they won. It was like, ah, that's when we
- 39:40Speaker 4: thought he was gonna drive.
- 39:41Speaker 3: Yeah, Danny Ferry was hot.
- 39:42Speaker 4: Wow, he was Danny Fair.
- 39:45Speaker 3: Was your guy?
- 39:45Speaker 5: Yet?
- 39:47Speaker 4: Let me tell you my Danny Ferry Strow? Yeah? Please?
- 39:49Speaker 4: And so I was not his guy, by the way.
- 39:52Speaker 4: He was a gym and not my guy either.
- 39:55Speaker 3: On the same place.
- 39:56Speaker 4: Apparently about I forget what year was, maybe two thousand
- 40:01Speaker 4: and nine, maybe we had a trade for Paul Pierce done,
- 40:05Speaker 4: absolutely done, and our GM had worked out with Atlanta
- 40:10Speaker 4: where we were going to give them a pick for something.
- 40:12Speaker 4: You know, we were going to do a trade so
- 40:15Speaker 4: that we can gross up the numbers, right, And it
- 40:17Speaker 4: was a trade that Danny Ferry agreed to, right, and
- 40:20Speaker 4: then he gets on the trade call and realizes we're
- 40:23Speaker 4: trading for Paul Pierce says, no, don't even wet. Throw
- 40:28Speaker 4: in the first round pick in order for us to
- 40:30Speaker 4: okay this. And we didn't have it. We couldn't do it.
- 40:34Speaker 4: So shout out to Danny.
- 40:40Speaker 1: People's day. Definitely, Paul Pierce. Yeah, I heard you almost
- 40:45Speaker 1: trade for Kobe too.
- 40:46Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 40:46Speaker 4: That was two thousand and seven. Kobe was ready to
- 40:50Speaker 4: get out. Yeah, and I was on Dancing with the
- 40:52Speaker 4: Stars Google me. I didn't win, but in any event,
- 40:59Speaker 4: there was a dude named Elvis who was a production assistant, right,
- 41:02Speaker 4: and he was just Kobe, love everything, Kobe, Kobe, Kobe, Kobe.
- 41:06Speaker 4: And in between breaks, I'd be like, Elvis, I need
- 41:10Speaker 4: a quiet spot. And I would talk to Rob Polinka,
- 41:14Speaker 4: his agent at the time, and He's like, okay, if
- 41:17Speaker 4: you can get doctor Buss to approve. And I talked
- 41:20Speaker 4: to Doctor Buss and he was ready to do it.
- 41:22Speaker 4: And it was like to first Josh Howard and Jason
- 41:26Speaker 4: Terry and for Kobe, and I thought, okay, this is done,
- 41:31Speaker 4: and I told Elvis this is done. Practicing my jib
- 41:34Speaker 4: or whatever. And then we got a call from Rob that,
- 41:41Speaker 4: Oh what the fuck, who's the Mitch kup check right
- 41:45Speaker 4: had talked Kobe out of it? Wow? That close, damn.
- 41:50Speaker 4: And I was telling Dirk the whole time, keeping him.
- 41:52Speaker 4: He goes, you can trade me. I would trade me
- 41:54Speaker 4: for Kobe too, and I'm like, no, the whole point, dirt.
- 41:56Speaker 4: You know what he did with Hyeah.
- 42:04Speaker 1: So that makes the AMC that tweet that much funnier
- 42:06Speaker 1: because he was trying to be a mad.
- 42:08Speaker 4: Oh no talk and I would give him ship all
- 42:11Speaker 4: the time. That was back in the day when you
- 42:13Speaker 4: can literally just give people ship on Twitter or whatever,
- 42:16Speaker 4: say something and it would be cool. But yeah, the
- 42:18Speaker 4: MBC that thing was like that. That was a classic.
- 42:21Speaker 3: Yeah. Now listen, man, you give me some cool points.
- 42:24Speaker 3: I told you being on the show today.
- 42:25Speaker 1: Man. Shouts to my mom, duce my family. Dark Tank
- 42:27Speaker 1: one of the best TV shows of all time, for sure.
- 42:30Speaker 4: Hit that again, one of the.
- 42:32Speaker 1: Best TV shows of all times. People get a lot
- 42:35Speaker 1: of money on there. We see a lot of people
- 42:37Speaker 1: turn away some bad chicken. Shouts to the people who
- 42:39Speaker 1: turned down the thirty million.
- 42:42Speaker 4: That thing down. It was the people the day it
- 42:50Speaker 4: was the dating app I forget the name of it,
- 42:52Speaker 4: and they were on there and they wanted the thirty
- 42:54Speaker 4: million dollar valuation. I thought they were just there for
- 42:57Speaker 4: the commercial. I thought they were just you know, they're
- 42:59Speaker 4: just to get people to sign up. And so I
- 43:02Speaker 4: was like, so if I gave you thirty million, would
- 43:05Speaker 4: you say yes? And they took just that part and
- 43:09Speaker 4: sliced it and diced it and put it on YouTube
- 43:11Speaker 4: and send it around to make it seem like I
- 43:13Speaker 4: gave them a thirty million dollar offer. If they would
- 43:16Speaker 4: have said yes, I would have like run out the back,
- 43:18Speaker 4: like no chance.
- 43:21Speaker 1: That was shout to them familiar, But I never heard
- 43:26Speaker 1: on the day Richard m has a week of site
- 43:36Speaker 1: shot out there.
- 43:37Speaker 4: Everybody do that thing, but you got to average Christian? Sure, now,
- 43:43Speaker 4: So how was that though? Being on Sharks? I loved it, man,
- 43:46Speaker 4: I loved it because you know the best part about
- 43:49Speaker 4: it is everybody watched, families watch together, kids watched, and
- 43:53Speaker 4: so you know, I did it because I wanted people
- 43:56Speaker 4: to believe that the American dream was alive. And well,
- 43:59Speaker 4: when someone came on that carpet, that could be from Idaho, Iowa, wherever,
- 44:03Speaker 4: and if they had a decent idea and had to
- 44:05Speaker 4: start to a business. We could help them out and
- 44:08Speaker 4: grow some real businesses, and we did. I mean, like
- 44:12Speaker 4: if you guys hurt of dude wipes, Yeah yeah, Shark Tank, God,
- 44:17Speaker 4: come on, come on, shark Tank. Like I gave them
- 44:24Speaker 4: two hundred and fifty grand I think for twenty percent,
- 44:27Speaker 4: and now they're worth at least a half a billion dollars. Damn.
- 44:32Speaker 4: Have you ever heard of beatbox beverages? They're like you've
- 44:36Speaker 4: you're school, right, Yeah, and so they're like an alcoholic
- 44:39Speaker 4: seltzer And they just sold to Budweiser for six and
- 44:43Speaker 4: seventy million I think was the final number. And I
- 44:48Speaker 4: bought a third of them for a million dollars. Now
- 44:50Speaker 4: I got diluted down, but it's still was nice. Yeah,
- 44:53Speaker 4: they're yeah, I'm familiar. Yeah you've seen the seven eleven. Yeah,
- 44:56Speaker 4: they're everywhere. Those guys killed it crazy.
- 45:00Speaker 1: Yeah, they're right next to the Wide hours rolls at
- 45:02Speaker 1: the seventh eleven, right with six hundred.
- 45:05Speaker 3: Evaluation twenty for sure, Mark, don't tell me invest of.
- 45:10Speaker 4: That now, you don't want people.
- 45:13Speaker 2: I gave them their start, alright, what flavor flavor?
- 45:21Speaker 4: It didn't matter. Let me just tell you when I
- 45:28Speaker 4: was at I am right there was that was the plan, right.
- 45:31Speaker 4: It was like three or four dollars for a box
- 45:33Speaker 4: and you just chug it and then you wait about
- 45:36Speaker 4: fifteen minutes and you just saved by Bucks. It used
- 45:41Speaker 4: to mix all of them together. Oh man, now, so nice.
- 45:44Speaker 1: While we're here and be here final full weekend, you
- 45:46Speaker 1: might as well talk about the Larry legendary road trip
- 45:49Speaker 1: to Houston, Texas.
- 45:50Speaker 3: But the Butler Final four was the pre game drink.
- 45:53Speaker 2: Well out of that which rolls and I have some
- 45:55Speaker 2: Orange mad Dog too, So yeah, he just make it
- 45:58Speaker 2: to the game.
- 45:58Speaker 4: Yeah, that was too small when you do mad Dog
- 46:02Speaker 4: twenty twenty orange and all the different plays. Boy, what
- 46:06Speaker 4: was the other not selling comfort? Oh no, no, no, no,
- 46:10Speaker 4: it's the wine, uh Carlos. No, it was same anyway,
- 46:16Speaker 4: same type of stuff, right, okay, the bottom But yeah,
- 46:19Speaker 4: I mean when you broke it was just like, eh, man,
- 46:23Speaker 4: I never heard his first real drink was like Gray Goose.
- 46:26Speaker 3: Yeah, Ray Ray was twenty two. I was an NBA.
- 46:31Speaker 4: Good for you. I don't know about all that, but.
- 46:34Speaker 3: That's the story. That's a good We weren't going to ladies.
- 46:37Speaker 3: So we got to we started probably real time.
- 46:42Speaker 1: Oh my god, man, what a time period man, Bloomington, Indiana,
- 46:45Speaker 1: totally different. I'll imagine like football season issues going to
- 46:48Speaker 1: be insane, Like you can't.
- 46:49Speaker 4: Even get ticked.
- 46:50Speaker 3: It's gonna be sold up.
- 46:51Speaker 4: Yeah, it's all sold out already. It's gonna be wild.
- 46:55Speaker 4: I mean it's But the difference is now the precious
- 47:00Speaker 4: want to be on.
- 47:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 47:01Speaker 4: Yeah, Now repeating getting there was amazing. Repeating is a job,
- 47:06Speaker 4: that's that's the hardest job in all of sports. Once
- 47:09Speaker 4: you've won, you guys know right you know or you
- 47:11Speaker 4: didn't didn't get to find out, did.
- 47:13Speaker 3: You look at Hey? I got some them right now.
- 47:17Speaker 3: They can't till they bring me back. Milwaukee won't win.
- 47:20Speaker 3: I told.
- 47:25Speaker 4: Get Yon have to come back.
- 47:27Speaker 3: I don't want to play no more.
- 47:31Speaker 4: But yeah, it's gonna be hard getting guys to come back.
- 47:34Speaker 4: But you know, now you're gonna get players.
- 47:36Speaker 3: Yeah that's a good thing. I got a bunch of
- 47:38Speaker 3: five stars.
- 47:39Speaker 4: Now. No, you know what, I would be surprised. I
- 47:41Speaker 4: don't know the answer, but I would be surprised if
- 47:43Speaker 4: we don't have a lot, because you know, I still
- 47:46Speaker 4: think if you Chase the most expensive free agent. That
- 47:50Speaker 4: kind of distorts everything in the locker room because you've
- 47:52Speaker 4: been in the locker room where some guy got a
- 47:53Speaker 4: lot more money than anybody expected, you know, and that
- 47:56Speaker 4: just like changes the balance.
- 47:58Speaker 3: I love kim Baisemore, but I remember the day, Oh.
- 48:01Speaker 4: Yeah we got paid. Yeah, man, you got seventy million,
- 48:04Speaker 4: he got chicken. I was like, you just came up
- 48:06Speaker 4: the bitch. We came hixteen year when yeah, right, everything got.
- 48:11Speaker 3: Down to Mike Conley Jr. Naptown legend. He forget.
- 48:17Speaker 4: Right, that was one of the guys. We were the mic. Yeah,
- 48:20Speaker 4: like I brought him on my jet. His dad played
- 48:24Speaker 4: us like a fiddle shout yeah, yeah, I remember that
- 48:29Speaker 4: from that.
- 48:31Speaker 3: Yeah, we gonna get that chicken at all time.
- 48:36Speaker 4: Jet war fitting good. He's like, yeah, you want to
- 48:42Speaker 4: help you. You gonna go back to Memphis.
- 48:46Speaker 3: So did you see the wolves? Mom Like, damn no,
- 48:50Speaker 3: because I knew it was.
- 48:51Speaker 4: Coming then, right, Yeah, I wasn't thinking. Damn. It was
- 48:54Speaker 4: a lot worse because now all of a suddenhen you
- 48:56Speaker 4: don't got the guy that you wanted. Now you still
- 48:59Speaker 4: got to fill the whole do whatever you gotta do.
- 49:01Speaker 4: And that year, that was the same year KD went
- 49:03Speaker 4: to the Warriors. The money was insane. That's when you
- 49:06Speaker 4: know centers were getting who was that La Center? Yeah, yeah,
- 49:12Speaker 4: I got paid. All those guys were getting crazy. And
- 49:15Speaker 4: we went and we signed, like you know, we got
- 49:17Speaker 4: Wes Matthews and Harrison Barnes and a couple other guys
- 49:22Speaker 4: and we tried to spread it out. Traded for Bogat
- 49:26Speaker 4: and that was that was my biggest mistake here because
- 49:29Speaker 4: that was the year I thought, Okay, we're going to
- 49:31Speaker 4: be good and we started with the full squad. We
- 49:33Speaker 4: started off three and fifteen, and so at that point,
- 49:36Speaker 4: you know, you just had to break it up and
- 49:38Speaker 4: trade all these guys. And it wasn't happy, but it
- 49:40Speaker 4: was what it was.
- 49:42Speaker 1: So at one point I ask you this question, do
- 49:43Speaker 1: you wait like far enough in the season, like maybe
- 49:45Speaker 1: all Star Breakers that when people be all right, this
- 49:47Speaker 1: shit ain't working. We gotta we gotta save the chicken.
- 49:50Speaker 1: Is there like a time here you give it like
- 49:51Speaker 1: ten games, just like fifteen.
- 49:53Speaker 4: Got to tell you, yeah, yeah, but just pans right.
- 49:59Speaker 4: But it's like when guys get released before March first,
- 50:02Speaker 4: when you know the last day before you can add
- 50:05Speaker 4: to a playoff team, like if you guys are only
- 50:07Speaker 4: going to add a guy to a playoff caliber team
- 50:10Speaker 4: if they're good, right, so you're you're effectively the trade
- 50:14Speaker 4: deadline is the date where you've got to make your
- 50:17Speaker 4: final decision who you're keeping, who you're getting off of.
- 50:20Speaker 4: And now with the second apron, it's ten times harder
- 50:23Speaker 4: because it just it just changes all the economics. And
- 50:27Speaker 4: to make matters worse, you got contracts that were signed
- 50:29Speaker 4: during the last CBA that kind of distort your cap
- 50:33Speaker 4: for this CBA. And so that's why you see a
- 50:35Speaker 4: lot of crazy things. And I think it's even going
- 50:38Speaker 4: to get crazier next year and then all those old
- 50:40Speaker 4: old contracts will be off as well.
- 50:42Speaker 1: Said I want to ask you this obviously, what the
- 50:44Speaker 1: expansion team is getting approved. If you had a chance
- 50:47Speaker 1: to run either the new team in Vegas or Seattle,
- 50:49Speaker 1: wish one, would you choose Vegas?
- 50:51Speaker 4: I mean, I like Seattle, but Vegas.
- 50:56Speaker 3: Mark Cuban, Vegas saw me up.
- 50:59Speaker 4: It'll be interesting to see how much they get, you know,
- 51:02Speaker 4: because there's a there's a number where it's too much,
- 51:05Speaker 4: not so much from the league's perspective, they want the
- 51:07Speaker 4: most they can possibly get. And I understand that, you know,
- 51:10Speaker 4: with the ownerships, owners and everything, but you got to
- 51:13Speaker 4: be able to make money at some point, you know,
- 51:15Speaker 4: and it's hard.
- 51:16Speaker 3: What do you think would be too much?
- 51:18Speaker 4: I think ten will be too much. Nine or ten
- 51:20Speaker 4: would be too much? Six seven, eight, because the teams
- 51:23Speaker 4: that have gotten in that range have been Boston in
- 51:26Speaker 4: LA and Boston in LA still have local TV deals
- 51:30Speaker 4: like the MAVs. We had an eighty million dollar a
- 51:32Speaker 4: year TV deal Local gone disappeared.
- 51:37Speaker 3: Oh yes, you know that, dang, Like I didn't even
- 51:43Speaker 3: have a say in this situation. That was because it
- 51:44Speaker 3: was a new.
- 51:44Speaker 4: They went out of business. All the local rs and
- 51:48Speaker 4: regional sports networks toast like the last one just went
- 51:51Speaker 4: out of business this week and on. Now the NBA
- 51:54Speaker 4: will come up with them ways to connect all the
- 51:57Speaker 4: teams together for local broadcasts. But you're not gonna get
- 52:00Speaker 4: the same amount of money as was back in the day.
- 52:03Speaker 2: No, no, no, depend on what story go over there
- 52:06Speaker 2: might shake up the league man, big names might go
- 52:08Speaker 2: to both of them cities.
- 52:09Speaker 4: Yeah, but you still like for local TV, just the
- 52:11Speaker 4: TV business. That's why. Look at you guys, right, you
- 52:14Speaker 4: guys get more people watching and listening than you know,
- 52:17Speaker 4: most TV shows, which you never would have thought of
- 52:20Speaker 4: ten years ago. That's true. Yeah, they're gonna be bad
- 52:23Speaker 4: for a couple of years, though, I don't know, you
- 52:25Speaker 4: don't think you guys back and apron stuff, like think
- 52:28Speaker 4: of all the old max contracts that guys will put
- 52:32Speaker 4: teams will put out there, and those teams will still
- 52:34Speaker 4: have to get to the minimum salary level of the floor.
- 52:38Speaker 4: And so you know, you take a couple of those
- 52:40Speaker 4: big contracts, put them together knowing that they're going to
- 52:43Speaker 4: burn off after a year or two, and you're gonna
- 52:46Speaker 4: have a good pick at least the first year or two.
- 52:48Speaker 1: But it's gonna be some old guys like not to like,
- 52:51Speaker 1: you know, disrespect him, but like Paul George would be
- 52:53Speaker 1: like a name like with his contract.
- 52:55Speaker 4: Paul George exactly like those guys. But they can still
- 52:59Speaker 4: because yeah, you're just not there's going to be the
- 53:02Speaker 4: first guys you would go after, right like you might
- 53:05Speaker 4: when they were younger.
- 53:06Speaker 1: Yeah, for sure, I know this is absolutely impossible, but
- 53:08Speaker 1: how fun it would it be if they put them
- 53:09Speaker 1: in the same drafting. So since there's some middle teams
- 53:11Speaker 1: they get the number one, the number two picks and
- 53:13Speaker 1: pissed everybody off the t.
- 53:14Speaker 4: They can't do that.
- 53:15Speaker 3: That would be hilarious.
- 53:16Speaker 4: Yea beause remember you owners gott to vote on it.
- 53:19Speaker 3: Bake of the world.
- 53:20Speaker 4: Yeah, I ain't have Vegas starting off trash bro you
- 53:26Speaker 4: hockey team they won, like, didn't they? I don't know
- 53:28Speaker 4: if they won the champions Yeah.
- 53:30Speaker 3: You think about when Toronto came the cheeks bro, No
- 53:34Speaker 3: but wrong, mighty mouth.
- 53:37Speaker 4: They were horrible, were horrible Grizzlies, horrible.
- 53:41Speaker 2: Respect what I'm saying, Vegas, we need John Moran Brol.
- 53:45Speaker 4: You'll probably be out there expansive draft John John Vegas.
- 53:53Speaker 3: I don't know that Vegas.
- 53:53Speaker 4: I don't know him very well.
- 53:56Speaker 1: The bounce back strong man we don't need. We don't
- 53:58Speaker 1: need Johnbby Live. You didn't knock down you crazy?
- 54:02Speaker 3: I was a ass.
- 54:03Speaker 4: What was your worst investment to any regrets? Oh my god,
- 54:08Speaker 4: I've had a bunch of them. I've had investments where
- 54:11Speaker 4: I trusted people and took them at their word and
- 54:15Speaker 4: lost five, eight, ten million dollars. But you know, but
- 54:21Speaker 4: that was my style and it's worked other places where
- 54:24Speaker 4: I you know, hundreds of billions or whatever, and so
- 54:28Speaker 4: you know, it balances out a long mistakes are smaller
- 54:32Speaker 4: than your Yeah, as long as the math works on
- 54:35Speaker 4: half carried like, I've had companies that have just emailed
- 54:40Speaker 4: me and I still haven't met him where I've met
- 54:44Speaker 4: him once and they've made me hundreds of millions of dollars. Wow,
- 54:48Speaker 4: as long as the company email.
- 54:50Speaker 3: Yeah, I got no emails.
- 54:53Speaker 4: Watch this fail like the course. There's a company, Synthesia,
- 55:01Speaker 4: that does like AI avatars that I invested in when AI,
- 55:05Speaker 4: even before AI was a thing, and I gave them
- 55:08Speaker 4: I don't know, a million dollars for twenty you no,
- 55:12Speaker 4: probably thirty percent of the company. I've been deluded since.
- 55:15Speaker 4: But they just did a deal that valued them at
- 55:18Speaker 4: four billion dollars. And you know my stuff is worth
- 55:22Speaker 4: four hundred, you know, and so all that covers. And
- 55:26Speaker 4: I've got a couple of deals like that. So yeah,
- 55:29Speaker 4: it's say lest yeah, that's out, get it right, Yeah,
- 55:34Speaker 4: I'll get it. You said, fuck, so bad of it.
- 55:41Speaker 4: It's never a.
- 55:43Speaker 3: Good either. I win. I write it off.
- 55:46Speaker 4: Would you would would you ever break a deal through
- 55:48Speaker 4: an email for me? You don't know.
- 55:50Speaker 3: I got to see you shake your head.
- 55:54Speaker 4: Ask because I've been doing it, like shark tank. Yeah,
- 55:56Speaker 4: if they don't give me the right answers, it's not like, hey,
- 55:59Speaker 4: you tell me something, I just believe you. Like I
- 56:01Speaker 4: was like bam bam, bam, bam bam, and like, because
- 56:04Speaker 4: I'm technical, I can get into the details of most
- 56:06Speaker 4: of these are tech deals, and so if you can't
- 56:08Speaker 4: give me the right answer, there's no chance. If you
- 56:11Speaker 4: give me the right answer, then there's a chance.
- 56:14Speaker 1: Now you talk about some of the successes some of
- 56:16Speaker 1: the falls, is there a tech company in one of
- 56:18Speaker 1: those startups that you didn't wasn't sold on, a little
- 56:20Speaker 1: nervous about they end up going crazy.
- 56:21Speaker 3: You're like, man, I missed I don't know Uber.
- 56:24Speaker 4: Oh wow. Yeah. So the guy who started uber uber
- 56:28Speaker 4: had a business before and I invested in that, and
- 56:32Speaker 4: I was one of the first people he came to
- 56:34Speaker 4: with Uber uber cavs, and I kind of over negotiate.
- 56:38Speaker 4: I wanted to invest and somebody else. I went shark
- 56:41Speaker 4: tank on them and kind of, you know, try to
- 56:43Speaker 4: negotiate the valuation. And he got somebody else who didn't
- 56:47Speaker 4: care what the valuation was and just gave him all
- 56:48Speaker 4: the money and he walked me, ghosted me and boom, Yeah, yeah, God,
- 56:56Speaker 4: I could be rich.
- 57:03Speaker 3: I love how all that's crazy that be here. We
- 57:13Speaker 3: lose a fox. I got to know where somebody live.
- 57:16Speaker 4: Don't see me no more shiny.
- 57:23Speaker 3: All right before we got here, miss que the final four,
- 57:25Speaker 3: when you got taking the chip man, I'm.
- 57:27Speaker 4: Going as much as I don't like Illinois with Illinois, okay, right,
- 57:31Speaker 4: just because they got the forty year old. I think
- 57:35Speaker 4: you know, when you have six kids, you've been through
- 57:37Speaker 4: it all, you got an advantage.
- 57:40Speaker 3: They got a team full. I can't go back, for sure.
- 57:43Speaker 4: I can't go back.
- 57:45Speaker 3: I got Michigan with Michigan, I got Michigan man playing
- 57:48Speaker 3: the best all year. Yeah, they got so squad.
- 57:50Speaker 4: I don't want to see Braylan doing man. I'm just
- 57:51Speaker 4: taking the home team. You got one man shot you.
- 57:54Speaker 3: I won't dare early to hear, but another riff so
- 57:56Speaker 3: at all calls and that's not crazy?
- 57:59Speaker 4: How do you get away with that?
- 58:02Speaker 5: Up?
- 58:03Speaker 4: Yeah? But still cheating. He was cheating. He was seating.
- 58:07Speaker 4: He was seating the Russell, seating the one to let
- 58:10Speaker 4: the travel go right in front of him, right we traveled.
- 58:14Speaker 3: Yeah, if you could have got.
- 58:18Speaker 4: If that would have been me on the losing end,
- 58:20Speaker 4: like it was a MAVs game. Oh, I would like
- 58:22Speaker 4: they'd be finding me. Got into a real bad Oh yeah,
- 58:26Speaker 4: you god, Oh my god, that was so much fun.
- 58:35Speaker 4: And we told all the coaches we got approval from
- 58:37Speaker 4: the referees before we did it. But Del Harris, who
- 58:40Speaker 4: was one of our assistant coaches back then, didn't get
- 58:42Speaker 4: the memo. They was freaking out. But I could hear
- 58:44Speaker 4: the crowd going with it. Oh, it was so much fun.
- 58:48Speaker 4: Oh my god.
- 58:49Speaker 3: We had to search how old Deal Harris was after
- 58:51Speaker 3: that clip.
- 58:52Speaker 1: For sure he didn't have gray hair before the clip.
- 58:57Speaker 1: Oh listen, man, mister, we appreciate you blessing this man.
