- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:28Hey everybody, good morning. It's a pretty windy morning here
- 0:32and I'm actually out on a little walk around the farm just
- 0:36checking on things overnight, making sure I know what
- 0:40happened, what was eaten, what was broken, all the good stuff
- 0:43again. But anyway, today I want to talk
- 0:46to you about tackling one thought at a time.
- 0:49And for me, what does this mean? Well, this is something that's
- 0:53important to me because I get barraged by all my thoughts at
- 0:56once often and it becomes overwhelming to me, like in a
- 1:00big way, like really overwhelming to me where I can't
- 1:04handle the number of thoughts that come at me so quickly.
- 1:08And it's like I, it's just like like rapid fire boom, boom,
- 1:13boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom.
- 1:14And so I have to really pull myself back and think I'm going
- 1:19to tackle one thought at a time. Which one do I choose?
- 1:23But if I keep them all in my head and let them run, they run
- 1:28crazy and they become more and more and more abundant.
- 1:32So I have to limit myself by saying, OK, I'm going to sit and
- 1:36write down all of the thoughts. So literally sitting down and
- 1:40grabbing a piece of paper and writing out the thoughts one at
- 1:44a time is super important and saying, OK, it's this, OK, it's
- 1:48this. Now you may find that you need
- 1:50to have a running list literally sitting on the counter, have a
- 1:54piece of paper and or on your desk or in your phone app,
- 1:57whatever you want to use. And just start writing down all
- 2:00the random thoughts as they show up.
- 2:04Incredibly important because they're going to keep showing up
- 2:08and showing up and showing up and showing up and, and unless
- 2:12and until you pay attention to each one of them, they're going
- 2:17to keep coming back because those thoughts are attached to
- 2:20emotions. And when thoughts are attached
- 2:21to emotions, that becomes trickier.
- 2:26And people will always say, well, which one comes first, the
- 2:29emotion or the thought? The thought or the emotion, I
- 2:32really don't care which one comes first because everyone has
- 2:34an opinion on it. I'm just trying to decode it so
- 2:37we stop having the problems that we have within ourselves.
- 2:41So what's incredibly important is one, get them out of your
- 2:47head on the paper 2, then tackle them one at a time, say, oh,
- 2:53right now, this is not the time for this right now.
- 2:55Even addressing it by saying, no, this is not the right time
- 2:57for this right now. I have to do this with myself
- 3:00constantly. If I have to do chores that I do
- 3:03not like to do or I'm not a fan of doing, and then all of a
- 3:07sudden I get a distracted thought that pops up, I will
- 3:10automatically want to do the distraction.
- 3:13I'm like, OK, yeah, I'll just move on.
- 3:14I won't even worry about this. But that's not useful.
- 3:17That's not helpful. What is helpful is just stopping
- 3:20myself and saying, no, this is what you intended.
- 3:22We're going to do it this way. But I'm tackling them one at a
- 3:26time, one at a time, one at a time.
- 3:28Because if I don't, it's too much and they gang up on me and
- 3:32then I lose. And then I become in a state of
- 3:35analysis paralysis. And the next thing you know, I'm
- 3:37not doing anything. And I'm just sitting there
- 3:39lamenting all these things that I have to do while I wish I
- 3:42could just sit down and go outside and garden and I can't.
- 3:49I have things that I have to do Why?
- 3:51Because I'm a I'm a human and we all have things that we want to
- 3:55do. And I have high standards for
- 3:56myself about the life that I want to live and keep.
- 3:59So I have to work things. I have to work them.
- 4:03That being said, I don't let things progress in my head.
- 4:08I do not let things just progress in my head.
- 4:12I shut them off. I take them out, I look at them,
- 4:16I decide what I want them to mean.
- 4:18I decide what attention I'm going to give it, and then I
- 4:20move forward. And that's the key.
- 4:23So I'm going to tell you guys if you can do this, if you can just
- 4:27stop and and pull yourself into the awareness that the thoughts
- 4:31are running wild. And that sometimes that's the
- 4:34very first thing, like, Oh my gosh, my thoughts are running
- 4:37wild. Then you know, OK, I have to sit
- 4:40down with them. I have to actually sit down and
- 4:42try to calm this down, bring the speed down, bring the pace down.
- 4:48Then I can start to handle it. Then I can move into it.
- 4:52Then I can make things feel better.
- 4:54That's the key. And often times people don't
- 4:58want to sit and write them down because they think it's foolish.
- 5:00What's really foolish is keeping them all in your head and
- 5:03letting them take over because that just sucks your energy
- 5:06away. And we know that emotions are
- 5:09just pure energy. And when they go in a certain
- 5:13direction, you know where emotion goes, energy flows.
- 5:17So you better make sure you're on top of that because if it's
- 5:21going down a rabbit hole that you don't really want to go to,
- 5:25you should stop it when you can. And the trick is stopping it
- 5:28quickly. So I hope this was helpful and I
- 5:32hope you guys have a blessed day and I will see you all tomorrow.
- 5:36Bye.
