- 1:57Speaker 1: on this show is Bearded Johnson in the comments has
- 2:01Speaker 1: blueberr muffins? Yes, equal amount of blueberries in each muffin.
- 2:04Speaker 1: As always here on this show and in this episode
- 2:06Speaker 1: of Disguy's coverage, we'll be diving into the Buffalo Bill's
- 2:10Speaker 1: initial fifty three man roster just released. Oh maybe like
- 2:15Speaker 1: fifty minutes ago, forty minutes ago roughly, depending on what
- 2:19Speaker 1: time if you're joining us live or whenever you're watching this.
- 2:21Speaker 1: We're recording this live here Tuesday, August twenty sixth seven Eastern. Yeah,
- 2:25Speaker 1: so the roster just went live. I just started getting
- 2:29Speaker 1: caught up with it as I was creating this episode
- 2:31Speaker 1: and going through. Andrew, thank you very much for telling
- 2:35Speaker 1: the rest of the chat there that it's a casino reference.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Appreciate you very much for that for the blueberry muffins reference. Yeah,
- 2:40Speaker 1: the roster just came through. The Bills were one of
- 2:42Speaker 1: the last teams I believe to kind of push out
- 2:45Speaker 1: their initial fifty three. So we're going to dive into that.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Likes dislikes, strengths, concerns, worries, surprises, how the injured and
- 2:55Speaker 1: suspended players will come you know, kind of kind of
- 2:58Speaker 1: come to pass later in the season when they're eligible
- 3:01Speaker 1: to come back, but we think could potentially drop off
- 3:04Speaker 1: from the roster at that point. But we're going to
- 3:07Speaker 1: dive into all of that as we go forward here
- 3:10Speaker 1: on this show, and with an episode like this, especially
- 3:15Speaker 1: this time of year, as the season is upcoming and
- 3:18Speaker 1: everybody's excited, sometimes emotions are running high. In conjunction with that,
- 3:23Speaker 1: any questions, thoughts, comments, concerns, anything and everything you folks have,
- 3:27Speaker 1: feel free to put it into the live chat. We
- 3:30Speaker 1: will be diving into as much as physically possible as
- 3:33Speaker 1: we go through here in this episode. Especially on the
- 3:35Speaker 1: episodes where I run solo, I like to make them
- 3:38Speaker 1: as interactive as possible. This is always a very interactive
- 3:40Speaker 1: show and engaging show with the chat, but especially when
- 3:43Speaker 1: I run solo, like to bring up as many comments
- 3:46Speaker 1: and thoughts as we can throughout the entirety of the episode.
- 3:48Speaker 1: As always, super chats get priority because I respect the
- 3:53Speaker 1: monetary donation, and the color distracts me from my eyes
- 3:56Speaker 1: and my notes and all of those pieces. We're going
- 3:58Speaker 1: to grab several comments from the chat before we dive in,
- 4:01Speaker 1: and we're just gonna start ripping and running with this
- 4:03Speaker 1: roster truck. Viewer's first one in. First one in gets
- 4:07Speaker 1: first comment says, hi, all, what's up? The first comment
- 4:09Speaker 1: here says good decisions? Well, second comment, I should say
- 4:12Speaker 1: good decisions. I think let's see who we can get
- 4:14Speaker 1: back on the practice squad Jackson, Wilkerson, Gore kind of
- 4:18Speaker 1: a plus and etc. We're going to be diving into
- 4:20Speaker 1: that segment towards the back end of this episode. In
- 4:22Speaker 1: terms of practice squad priorities, players we'd like to see,
- 4:27Speaker 1: Noah says, depending on Trey, what are the odds we
- 4:29Speaker 1: make Bradbury Josh Norman two point zero? I'm gonna say
- 4:32Speaker 1: low at this stage, just given where Bradbury is, where
- 4:35Speaker 1: the bills are, what they're looking for, I'm gonna say low.
- 4:38Speaker 1: John says plenty of positives. Chris says, who were the
- 4:42Speaker 1: real surprises? Though? In terms of the cuts, we're gonna
- 4:45Speaker 1: get into some of that. This comment, I just woke
- 4:47Speaker 1: up and haven't seen the cuts. This show will be
- 4:49Speaker 1: my first time hearing them. I'm glad that you joined
- 4:52Speaker 1: me here. Thank you for waking up in time. Thank
- 4:54Speaker 1: you for being here. A little bit of a different
- 4:55Speaker 1: time for disguise coverage tonight, not the normal nine pm Eastern,
- 4:58Speaker 1: obviously you're live, but seven pm Eastern. That's because I
- 5:01Speaker 1: have some day job stuff. Some of you folks you
- 5:04Speaker 1: may know that I do some things with folks overseas.
- 5:07Speaker 1: So I have a late night call tonight, which is
- 5:09Speaker 1: interfering with the Disguyi's coverage time. That's why we're going
- 5:11Speaker 1: a little live earlier tonight, which works out because of
- 5:14Speaker 1: the news that drop. Just Tippykinnou says, Go Sports team.
- 5:18Speaker 1: I like it. We got some blueberry muffins comments in
- 5:21Speaker 1: the chat and got that funneling through comment here. What
- 5:23Speaker 1: are your thoughts on keeping six wide receivers even with
- 5:26Speaker 1: all the injuries to cornerback? We are going to one
- 5:28Speaker 1: thousand percent dive into both of those pieces. I like
- 5:31Speaker 1: this coming here now. I just really want a muffin.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Oh Matt saying, did Dwayne Carter deserve to make the roster?
- 5:39Speaker 1: Steve the barbarus Josh Allen made the team a little
- 5:41Speaker 1: bit of surprise, A little bit of surprise, Die Forever
- 5:44Speaker 1: coming in saying, and after two seasons in a row
- 5:47Speaker 1: of them only taking five wide receivers into week one,
- 5:50Speaker 1: does six wide receivers shock you a little bit? I
- 5:55Speaker 1: find it a little surprising, but also kind of not.
- 5:59Speaker 1: We're to get into it as we get into the
- 6:01Speaker 1: wide receiver spot. But I like where head's at there.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Bills are electric, saying, I don't think the Bills will
- 6:06Speaker 1: be claiming a random player around the league because the
- 6:08Speaker 1: fifty two and fifty three man on the roster, players
- 6:11Speaker 1: that know the system and are worth keeping. I think
- 6:13Speaker 1: that is very very well said. Oh stup Mode says like, yeah,
- 6:16Speaker 1: I'm kind of late, so a full breakdown on the
- 6:18Speaker 1: cuts would be appreciated. Absolutely. I'm gonna pull up the
- 6:21Speaker 1: roster from the official Bills site. We're gonna go through
- 6:23Speaker 1: a player by player obviously, see who's not included there,
- 6:26Speaker 1: discuss them and all that kind of stuff. Bob bob
- 6:30Speaker 1: by what else? What else? Andrew says, So Trey must
- 6:34Speaker 1: not be hurt that bad fingers crossed, very superstitious, but
- 6:39Speaker 1: fingers crossed on that front and that regard. All right,
- 6:42Speaker 1: let us dive into the roster. I'm gonna pull up
- 6:46Speaker 1: as I mentioned the Bills official This is right off
- 6:51Speaker 1: the Buffalo Bills website. This is their roster breakdown by position.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Start here picture of Josh Allen and then the breakdown
- 6:59Speaker 1: by position there. Some of you saw the running back
- 7:01Speaker 1: and wide receiver ones a little bit of a spoiler,
- 7:03Speaker 1: but we'll start here. Not too much to talk about
- 7:06Speaker 1: I think here when it comes to the QB position.
- 7:08Speaker 1: But again, if anybody has any thoughts, feel free put
- 7:11Speaker 1: it up into the chat. John Robert says, I didn't
- 7:13Speaker 1: think Brandon Codrington would have made the fifty three man
- 7:16Speaker 1: roster spoiler. He did. He looks to be the returner
- 7:18Speaker 1: for this team, hence why I put him in the
- 7:20Speaker 1: graphic for this episode. But some QB pieces we'll lead off.
- 7:25Speaker 1: I'm just gonna go in order as they have it
- 7:27Speaker 1: here on the site. Keep it nice and succinct for
- 7:29Speaker 1: all you folks, especially because I'm sharing essentially the site
- 7:34Speaker 1: there and don't want to make it too much of
- 7:36Speaker 1: like a spoiler thing what I'm showing, what we're not showing,
- 7:39Speaker 1: So we'll just go in order here. I don't think
- 7:41Speaker 1: too much to talk about when it comes to the
- 7:43Speaker 1: QB's aside from I thought Mike White played well. Mike
- 7:48Speaker 1: White was my hope in kind of overtaking Mitch Trubisky
- 7:53Speaker 1: this offseason. But Trubisky played well in camp, and my
- 7:57Speaker 1: biggest issue with Trubisky was, and I've talked about it
- 8:00Speaker 1: a bit on the show, I felt like he was
- 8:06Speaker 1: a bit broken, like mentally or spiritually or emotionally after
- 8:10Speaker 1: his time in Chicago, which is understandable, right the Bear's
- 8:13Speaker 1: trade up for him. He goes into a major city
- 8:17Speaker 1: that loves his football and is very critical when things
- 8:19Speaker 1: aren't going well. He has some success early on and
- 8:23Speaker 1: then kind of falls off a cliff, as does that
- 8:25Speaker 1: Bears team comes to Buffalo, goes to Pittsburgh, comes back
- 8:28Speaker 1: to Buffalo. But I felt like he played very cautiously,
- 8:31Speaker 1: very safe, wasn't really letting it rip in preseason and
- 8:34Speaker 1: camp really much of anything. And I again, like a
- 8:38Speaker 1: lot of people say and know, if Josh Allen goes down,
- 8:41Speaker 1: this team is in trouble. But I still wanted somebody
- 8:44Speaker 1: at the QB two spot that I thought could be
- 8:46Speaker 1: a little bit more of a gunslinger and rip it
- 8:48Speaker 1: a little bit. And Mike White has shown more of
- 8:50Speaker 1: that in recent years than Trubisky. Had, but I thought
- 8:52Speaker 1: Trubisky played well in the preseason. A couple of nice
- 8:55Speaker 1: balls on the move, the deep shot to Shavers at
- 8:58Speaker 1: the end of the first half against the Giants, really
- 9:03Speaker 1: nice play in the pocket. I think also against the
- 9:06Speaker 1: Giants there, or it may have been the second game
- 9:08Speaker 1: against the Bears where I think it was the Giants
- 9:10Speaker 1: game where he evades spins while in the pocket, avoids
- 9:14Speaker 1: the pressure, slings one side arm to Palmer. It was
- 9:16Speaker 1: at against the Giants, just a really nice move there.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Showed some athleticism, showed some arm strength, and some poise.
- 9:23Speaker 1: I thought he played well. And because he played well
- 9:26Speaker 1: and played well enough, I thought Mike White or even
- 9:29Speaker 1: Shane Bouchelle was gonna have to do a lot to
- 9:31Speaker 1: overtake Trubisky, given the respect that Trubisky has built and
- 9:36Speaker 1: credibility that he's built within the organization, the QB room,
- 9:39Speaker 1: the staff, and this franchise overall. So I thought it
- 9:41Speaker 1: would either have to beat Trubisky really falling off a
- 9:44Speaker 1: cliff or Mike White really surpassing him and bawling out.
- 9:48Speaker 1: And I thought Triubsky played well. I thought Mike White
- 9:51Speaker 1: played well as well, but not enough to overtake Trubisky,
- 9:54Speaker 1: So I'm not completely surprised by this. Obviously, here we
- 9:57Speaker 1: see only two qbs. We'll see who the Bills keep
- 10:00Speaker 1: on the practice squad. Is it Mike White, Is it
- 10:02Speaker 1: Shane Bouschell? Is it somehow both thought Bouschelle played really
- 10:05Speaker 1: well in the preseason finale against the Bucks, really owning
- 10:09Speaker 1: the offense completely from start to finish and playing well.
- 10:14Speaker 1: And I like Trubisky in theory if he can get
- 10:17Speaker 1: a little more of Bears Mitch Trubisky. That might sound
- 10:21Speaker 1: negative considering how his time in Chicago ended up, but
- 10:25Speaker 1: if he can tap into that athleticism again and that
- 10:27Speaker 1: mobility and some of the playmaking and just the explosives
- 10:31Speaker 1: that he was able to generate, I'm okay with him,
- 10:34Speaker 1: you know, maybe playing one or two games. God forbid
- 10:36Speaker 1: anything happens to Josh Allen. But if anything happens to Alan,
- 10:38Speaker 1: we know it's gonna be a rough time for this team.
- 10:41Speaker 1: But Mitch Trubisky and Josh Allen are your two quarterbacks
- 10:44Speaker 1: on the Buffalo Bill's initial fifty three man roster. It's
- 10:49Speaker 1: common from you folks, Yeah, Andrews saying Mitch did play
- 10:53Speaker 1: well Jeff says. Jeff says, some surprise, Josh Allen made
- 10:56Speaker 1: the cut and starting over Mitch, that might be the
- 10:59Speaker 1: bigger news worthy thing here that they've already kind of
- 11:01Speaker 1: put Josh Allen in as QB one. A little interesting,
- 11:05Speaker 1: little interesting, good comment here saying, yeah, it looks like
- 11:09Speaker 1: Trubisky starting to embrace being a backup for now. Yeah,
- 11:12Speaker 1: a little bit the amster saying Trubisky did just enough
- 11:14Speaker 1: comes with the experience. I think that's fair. Good comment
- 11:17Speaker 1: here from Roy even as well, saying I think Mike
- 11:19Speaker 1: White gunslinger attitude can get you in trouble though, fair
- 11:22Speaker 1: and especially when you're looking at a backup. Maybe they
- 11:24Speaker 1: want somebody to play a little safer. But yeah, kudos
- 11:27Speaker 1: to Trubisky for making it and earn another roster spot
- 11:32Speaker 1: here with the Buffalo Bills. Let's go to the next
- 11:35Speaker 1: position group listed here on the Buffalo Bills website. They've
- 11:39Speaker 1: got four listed here for running back. That is because
- 11:41Speaker 1: they have included Reggie Gillium as a you know, quote
- 11:45Speaker 1: unquote running back, but he's listed as a full back here.
- 11:47Speaker 1: I don't think any other any more surprises here. Honestly,
- 11:51Speaker 1: I don't think there's much to talk about here with
- 11:52Speaker 1: the running back room, either James Cook, Ray Davis, Ty Johnson,
- 11:56Speaker 1: Reggie Gillium at full back. I will take this opportunity
- 11:59Speaker 1: to mention I would like more Reggie Gilliam in this offense.
- 12:04Speaker 1: I would like more twenty one personnel. I would like
- 12:08Speaker 1: to see Reggie Gilliam and Jackson Hawes on the front
- 12:11Speaker 1: side of runs, creating displacement and mashing the hell out
- 12:15Speaker 1: of defenses. I would like that very much, and I
- 12:18Speaker 1: would be very excited if that were to happen. Multiple
- 12:22Speaker 1: comments already coming in For Frank Gore. I liked him
- 12:25Speaker 1: a lot last preseason. I liked him a lot this preseason.
- 12:28Speaker 1: He just he's not the sexiest back, but he just
- 12:32Speaker 1: seems very efficient and effective almost every time he touches
- 12:36Speaker 1: the ball, whether it's with the run, whether it's you know,
- 12:40Speaker 1: catching it out of the backfield. He's good in pass
- 12:42Speaker 1: pro in terms of execution and his scannability and readability.
- 12:47Speaker 1: I hope he makes it back on the practice squad.
- 12:49Speaker 1: He is somebody who I think is a practice squad
- 12:53Speaker 1: priority guy for me for this team. I also wonder
- 12:58Speaker 1: as he made enough noise that he gets claimed by
- 13:00Speaker 1: someone else, and does someone else Adam as an RB
- 13:02Speaker 1: three somewhere else happened with black Sheear several years ago
- 13:05Speaker 1: when he saw real snaps in the regular season for
- 13:07Speaker 1: the Carolina Panthers as they suffered some injuries there at
- 13:10Speaker 1: that position, and he was a bit of a Bill's
- 13:13Speaker 1: Mafia favorite that preseason as well. So I'm interested to
- 13:16Speaker 1: see what happens with Frank or Junior. I even thought
- 13:18Speaker 1: Elijah Young played decent in Spurts, I've liked what the
- 13:22Speaker 1: Bills really have turned out for running backs the past
- 13:25Speaker 1: several years. And again, I really really really like Frank
- 13:29Speaker 1: or Junior. I think the ceiling is somewhat limited for him.
- 13:33Speaker 1: And that's why you see, you know, Ray Davis still
- 13:38Speaker 1: being there, Ty Johnson being there. This is a really
- 13:40Speaker 1: good running back room though, anyway you slice it. Even
- 13:42Speaker 1: if you are upset about Frank or Junior, I find
- 13:47Speaker 1: this funny. This guy came in to say, this guy
- 13:48Speaker 1: talks way too fast. You commented this on my last episode,
- 13:53Speaker 1: and you came into the live stream to comment this again.
- 13:57Speaker 1: I appreciate your dedication. Even oh, I find it a
- 14:01Speaker 1: bit sad, but kudos to you. Do you and enjoy
- 14:04Speaker 1: your life. Yeah, I think it's pretty interesting that Frank
- 14:12Speaker 1: Gore again another preseason not making the roster. Not the
- 14:15Speaker 1: craziest thing in the world. Good player. Tough to crack
- 14:18Speaker 1: this running back room. I said it a couple of
- 14:20Speaker 1: weeks ago that I like the way he plays, similar
- 14:23Speaker 1: verbiage I used earlier here in this episode talking about
- 14:25Speaker 1: the efficient and effective play. It's just really hard to
- 14:29Speaker 1: crack this running back room. James Cook is a legit
- 14:31Speaker 1: RB one at this point. Ray Davis is a I
- 14:34Speaker 1: think solid RB two. I actually, out of everybody here,
- 14:38Speaker 1: I really like Ty Johnson. Good in pass bro good
- 14:41Speaker 1: catching the ball, good running the ball. This is a
- 14:44Speaker 1: good running back room. Oh, I gotta go back. Shout
- 14:49Speaker 1: out to this comment from the Post Show this past Saturday. Yeah,
- 14:53Speaker 1: I went to the State Fair in Syracuse on Sunday.
- 14:56Speaker 1: Pizza Cone was great. I forget who recommended it. It
- 14:59Speaker 1: was tremendous. The food there in general was great. I
- 15:01Speaker 1: had only ever been to the Erie County Fair, no
- 15:04Speaker 1: shame to that, but the stay Fair as Syracuse was awesome.
- 15:07Speaker 1: I went with some family friends. It was a great time.
- 15:10Speaker 1: We had a great time. It was awesome. It was awesome.
- 15:13Speaker 1: Appreciate your right saying, damn shame when somebody talks a
- 15:15Speaker 1: little fast, you actually have to pay attention to the
- 15:17Speaker 1: laughing Moji. I appreciate you for that. Yeah, I uh oh.
- 15:21Speaker 1: Mike's saying I think if Gore can get back on
- 15:25Speaker 1: the practice squad, his chance may come in twenty six.
- 15:28Speaker 1: I think that's fair. I would like to kind of
- 15:31Speaker 1: see that potentially, but I don't know. Ty Johnson, I
- 15:37Speaker 1: think signed a two year, but you never know. I
- 15:40Speaker 1: like him. I hope he gets a shot somewhere. Efficient
- 15:42Speaker 1: and effective, not sexy, but he gets the job done.
- 15:45Speaker 1: I appreciate all Ginger saying Aunt talks just right. Mark says,
- 15:48Speaker 1: listen faster. I like that. Oh, this is good. That
- 15:52Speaker 1: guy types too fast. Nice typo, well done. Walter said,
- 15:55Speaker 1: this guy talks way too well paced. That's very funny.
- 15:59Speaker 1: That is very funny. But yeah, I think no surprises
- 16:02Speaker 1: in the running back room. I like Frank or Junior.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Oh good comment here, saying San Francisco will take Gore
- 16:07Speaker 1: Junior in a heartbeat. It would have been cool if
- 16:09Speaker 1: they had him in the preseason. It could have been
- 16:11Speaker 1: you know, baby Gore and babyto on the same roster.
- 16:16Speaker 1: That would be cool. Yeah, tough running back room to crack.
- 16:19Speaker 1: Ty Johnson's a really good RB three. Ray Davis is
- 16:22Speaker 1: a fine RB two. I'm interested to see if Ray
- 16:24Speaker 1: Davis can be more this season than he was last year.
- 16:28Speaker 1: But that's more of a schematic and usage conversation than
- 16:31Speaker 1: it is an initial kind of roster reaction fifty three
- 16:36Speaker 1: type of deal. But not too many surprises here when
- 16:39Speaker 1: it comes to the running back room. Let's move that.
- 16:44Speaker 1: Let's move on to the wide receiver position, a group
- 16:50Speaker 1: that multiple people commented on. Actually, you know what I'm
- 16:53Speaker 1: gonna do, wide receivers and tight ends together, because why not.
- 16:57Speaker 1: We'll start with the wide receiver piece. As many of
- 16:59Speaker 1: you commented here, thoughts on keeping six wide receivers they've
- 17:03Speaker 1: traditionally kept five. What are the thoughts here? I do
- 17:06Speaker 1: think it's interesting with the wide receiver group, so as
- 17:09Speaker 1: we have it listed here. Khalil Shakir Keon Coleman, Josh Palmer,
- 17:13Speaker 1: Elijah Moore, Curtis Samuel, and Tyrell Shavers. I know for
- 17:18Speaker 1: a lot of folks it was, hey, let's get rid
- 17:23Speaker 1: of Curtis Samuel. He hasn't performed. He's injured again, there's
- 17:27Speaker 1: no reason to keep him on the roster. Bounce him
- 17:30Speaker 1: for Tyrrel Shavers. If it comes down to Samuel and
- 17:32Speaker 1: Shavers get rid of Samuel talked about it had been
- 17:34Speaker 1: on the postgame show last week, but I'm gonna mention
- 17:37Speaker 1: it here again now. Just the dead cap situation for
- 17:40Speaker 1: Samuel made I think him leaving the roster a bit tough.
- 17:44Speaker 1: If they were to release him outright, you get a
- 17:46Speaker 1: dead cap hit this year of eight point seven mil,
- 17:49Speaker 1: a dead cap hit next year of three point four
- 17:51Speaker 1: five mil. If you traded him at this point, you
- 17:55Speaker 1: get some savings, You save seven point two mil this year,
- 17:58Speaker 1: and then only incurre a dead cap hit up one
- 17:59Speaker 1: point eight this year and the same three point four
- 18:02Speaker 1: to five next year. I just don't think there was
- 18:04Speaker 1: enough of a financial incentive to remove Curtis Samuel. As
- 18:08Speaker 1: Dan here says Samuel with a whole bunch of dollar signs. Yeah,
- 18:11Speaker 1: I don't I never thought it was real, the kind
- 18:14Speaker 1: of the idea of cutting Curtis Samuel or releasing him
- 18:17Speaker 1: and then trading him. Are you gonna find a partner
- 18:21Speaker 1: for him? And I don't know if they were willing
- 18:23Speaker 1: just to say, hey, we'll flip them first seventh, or
- 18:25Speaker 1: we'll flip them first sixth, or we'll give somebody Samuel
- 18:28Speaker 1: and a sixth for a fifth or seventh, or whatever
- 18:33Speaker 1: kind of gamesmanship you want to work out there. I
- 18:35Speaker 1: didn't see a lot of that as being realistic. And
- 18:38Speaker 1: I also think, you know, a sale says Samuel's a
- 18:41Speaker 1: money player when healthy, no pun intended. I do think
- 18:43Speaker 1: he's effective. I wasn't a huge fan of how much
- 18:46Speaker 1: money they gave him when he came in as a
- 18:48Speaker 1: free agent. Granted, at that time, I still thought he
- 18:50Speaker 1: was gonna play alongside Stefan Diggs because he was signed
- 18:53Speaker 1: before Diggs was, you know, moved from this team. But
- 18:57Speaker 1: I think he's a fine piece. I think he's a
- 19:00Speaker 1: fine addition. I don't love how much money he's being
- 19:02Speaker 1: paid for the role that he's going to have. But
- 19:05Speaker 1: as last year showed, he was effective down the stretch
- 19:09Speaker 1: as he got healthier, and I don't even think he
- 19:11Speaker 1: was still completely healthy down the stretch when he played.
- 19:13Speaker 1: So if he can somehow get healthier, I think he
- 19:16Speaker 1: can make more of an impact. He played well against
- 19:18Speaker 1: Kansas City in Buffalo. He had a couple of nice
- 19:20Speaker 1: plays after that, the nice big touchdown against Denver where
- 19:24Speaker 1: he really started to show what he could do when
- 19:25Speaker 1: he opened it up and was able to move in
- 19:27Speaker 1: space a little bit. But again, whether or not he
- 19:32Speaker 1: can be healthy or will be healthy is a significant
- 19:35Speaker 1: part of this conversation, right. The best of ability is availability.
- 19:38Speaker 1: He hasn't had great availability last year and even starting
- 19:42Speaker 1: this year again in camp and the preseason. So we'll
- 19:45Speaker 1: see what comes of it for Curtis Samuel. But huge
- 19:48Speaker 1: shout out to Tyrrel Shavers and this kind of seemed
- 19:51Speaker 1: like a move where the writing was on the wall
- 19:53Speaker 1: a little bit these past couple of weeks. Shavers played
- 19:57Speaker 1: well in the preseason. He looked good in his routes
- 20:01Speaker 1: and also from like a stem standpoint right, the way
- 20:04Speaker 1: he was stemming his route, selling vertical, being able to
- 20:06Speaker 1: create separation. And that's on top of having a legitimate
- 20:10Speaker 1: nice sizek and frame and athleticism combination. He's got some height,
- 20:15Speaker 1: he's got some weight, he's got some length, he's got
- 20:17Speaker 1: some long speed, and he can open it up a
- 20:19Speaker 1: little bit. An amazing one hand to catch this past
- 20:24Speaker 1: week against Tampa Bay, especially after he had you know,
- 20:27Speaker 1: kind of some unsure hands to start that game against
- 20:29Speaker 1: Tampa Bay. He had the drop and then the double
- 20:31Speaker 1: catch after that, and then he just a ridiculous one
- 20:33Speaker 1: hander for that touchdown. Add into the fact that he
- 20:36Speaker 1: does play special teams, it seemed like the writing was
- 20:39Speaker 1: on the wall for Shavers kind of making this team.
- 20:42Speaker 1: The big question I think for a lot of folks
- 20:44Speaker 1: was you know you knew Khalil Securre was making it,
- 20:47Speaker 1: key On Holman was making it, Josh Palmer was making it,
- 20:49Speaker 1: Curtis Samuel. As much as it pained a lot of folks,
- 20:52Speaker 1: I think it made sense that he was going to
- 20:53Speaker 1: make it. And the question came to, okay, are they
- 20:56Speaker 1: only going to keep five? And if it's five, is
- 20:58Speaker 1: it Elijah Moore or is it Tyroll Shavers. We don't
- 21:02Speaker 1: have to answer that, we don't have to worry about
- 21:04Speaker 1: answering that, and we don't know because again they kept
- 21:06Speaker 1: six with Khalis Shakir, Keon Coleman, Josh Palmer, Curtis Samuel,
- 21:11Speaker 1: Elijah Moore, and Tyrell Shavers. I am interested from a
- 21:15Speaker 1: depth chart perspective and from a usage perspective, who gets
- 21:20Speaker 1: more work between more and Shavers actually in the scope
- 21:24Speaker 1: of the offense once everybody's healthy. And I say that
- 21:29Speaker 1: because if Khalis Shakir is banged up, say he's ready
- 21:32Speaker 1: for week one, but he's not one hundred percent, or
- 21:35Speaker 1: maybe somehow he's not ready for week one. I do
- 21:38Speaker 1: think that gives Elijah Moore an uptick in snaps because
- 21:41Speaker 1: he can function a bit in that Khalis Shakir role.
- 21:45Speaker 1: I thought a lot of having Elijah Moore on the
- 21:49Speaker 1: roster was tied to the value of him being able
- 21:52Speaker 1: to play a bit inside and being able to play
- 21:55Speaker 1: a bit outside. You can play him in the slot,
- 21:57Speaker 1: you can play him as a Z, you can line
- 21:58Speaker 1: him up in different spots in trips or in bunches
- 22:01Speaker 1: or stacks, and you can do several things with him
- 22:04Speaker 1: from a route standpoint, from even from a gadget standpoint.
- 22:07Speaker 1: I know that Bears game was really ugly, but he
- 22:09Speaker 1: had a really nice route where he sold an over
- 22:12Speaker 1: on play action and quickly sunk his hips, stabbed and
- 22:15Speaker 1: dipped underneath the man covering and popped back outside to
- 22:18Speaker 1: create separation. I think he's got some good separation capability
- 22:21Speaker 1: and can still have a good fit in the offense.
- 22:24Speaker 1: We'll see what the usage looks like, especially with the
- 22:27Speaker 1: guys above him. How healthy is Samuel, How healthy is Palmer.
- 22:30Speaker 1: He's been banged up, you know, to start this year.
- 22:33Speaker 1: Shakir got the high ankle sprain in the scrimmage. He's
- 22:35Speaker 1: supposed to play week one. We'll see. But I like
- 22:39Speaker 1: all this right wide receiver room is shaped up. I'm
- 22:41Speaker 1: okay with keeping six. I thought they'd keep five, but
- 22:45Speaker 1: that was my initial projections back in like, oh, I
- 22:48Speaker 1: don't know June July, before the emergence of Tyrol Shavers
- 22:51Speaker 1: and then the multitude injuries that happened, So maybe they're
- 22:53Speaker 1: hedging their bets a little bit. We'll see. Oh, just
- 22:56Speaker 1: the tippy Canoe says, I like the idea of six receivers.
- 22:59Speaker 1: The idea of corners is nice, but if it means
- 23:02Speaker 1: our stronger group is wide receiver, then be it pick
- 23:05Speaker 1: the best players. Thank you very much for being here,
- 23:07Speaker 1: as always, just the typical do and thank you very
- 23:08Speaker 1: much for a super chat. I think our comment is fair.
- 23:10Speaker 1: We're gonna get the corner in a little bit, but
- 23:13Speaker 1: I don't know if anybody that was cut at corner
- 23:15Speaker 1: was necessarily worth not keeping one of these wide receivers.
- 23:19Speaker 1: I think if it comes down to it again, especially
- 23:22Speaker 1: thinking of who's at the bottom end of the wide
- 23:24Speaker 1: receiver depth chart, would you rather keep Dame Jackson or
- 23:27Speaker 1: Elijah Moore or Dane Jackson or Tyrrell Shavers. That's really
- 23:30Speaker 1: kind of I think what it's coming down to from
- 23:32Speaker 1: a depth chart standpoint. Unless you're a huge day Kwon
- 23:35Speaker 1: Hardy fan, would you rather kept Daikwon Hardy or Tyrrel
- 23:38Speaker 1: Shavers or Elijah Moore? I would lean wide receiver just
- 23:41Speaker 1: because I think those guys are better players, potentially more
- 23:43Speaker 1: useful at this standpoint, but I could understand someone move
- 23:47Speaker 1: in different direction. Yeah, you followed up with a good comment.
- 23:49Speaker 1: Savers is a better football player than any corner. That
- 23:52Speaker 1: would be our sixth best corner. And I think there's
- 23:53Speaker 1: some upside to Shavers as well from an experienced standpoint,
- 23:56Speaker 1: with an idea that he could get better start to
- 23:59Speaker 1: tap into his ceiling a little bit tight ends. I
- 24:04Speaker 1: don't really have much. I think this was pretty straightforward
- 24:06Speaker 1: from the get go. Dalton Kink, Dawson Knox, Jackson Hawes.
- 24:09Speaker 1: I really like what Jackson Hawes brings. I like the
- 24:11Speaker 1: physicality he had some really nice blocks this preseason. I
- 24:15Speaker 1: think he's gonna be a force on the front side
- 24:18Speaker 1: in legitimately, people moving defensive ends and edges, mauling linebackers,
- 24:23Speaker 1: ceiling guys, displacing them. I'm excited. What I think is
- 24:27Speaker 1: an interesting note, and again this is a longer term conversation,
- 24:32Speaker 1: is I'm going to look up Dawson Knox's contract right
- 24:37Speaker 1: now because I wonder if you know his dead cap
- 24:43Speaker 1: hit this year. Wow, he's got a dead cap hit
- 24:45Speaker 1: in twenty twenty five of twenty one twenty one million dollars.
- 24:49Speaker 1: I'm not even gonna look into the trade versus release
- 24:51Speaker 1: aspect posting first, because Dawson Knox isn't going anywhere but
- 24:56Speaker 1: next off season. If Knox is released pre June first,
- 25:03Speaker 1: dead cap hit a seven point four savings of nine
- 25:06Speaker 1: point six same thing if he's traded. If he's released
- 25:10Speaker 1: after June first, next year, it's a dead cap hit
- 25:13Speaker 1: a five million twenty twenty six two point three in
- 25:17Speaker 1: twenty twenty seven, and then a twenty twenty six savings
- 25:21Speaker 1: of twelve million dollars, same exact scenario. If he's traded.
- 25:25Speaker 1: I say all that to say I don't think it's
- 25:28Speaker 1: completely crazy that if Jackson Hawes is really a viable
- 25:34Speaker 1: and successful and significant blocker as a true like inline
- 25:38Speaker 1: wide tight end, and if he can do enough as
- 25:41Speaker 1: a pass catcher, I don't think it's crazy that they
- 25:44Speaker 1: potentially move on from Dawson Knox next offseason. The thing
- 25:47Speaker 1: that I think honestly complicates it the most the most
- 25:50Speaker 1: is his relationship with Josh Allen, and I don't know
- 25:53Speaker 1: if that would rub him the wrong way and what
- 25:54Speaker 1: that means from a politicking standpoint or a non on
- 25:57Speaker 1: the field standpoint. I didn't love the con track that
- 26:00Speaker 1: Knox got when he got it. I don't think he's
- 26:02Speaker 1: played up to it, even though you know, they've kind
- 26:06Speaker 1: of maneuvered some things around a little bit between his
- 26:09Speaker 1: availability and just his overall progression and then his usage,
- 26:12Speaker 1: like he's not quite the I feel like Knox is
- 26:15Speaker 1: kind of the caught in between guy right now. I
- 26:17Speaker 1: still do think he has athleticism obviously, and he's improved
- 26:20Speaker 1: as a blocker each season that he's been with the Bills,
- 26:23Speaker 1: but now with Hawes and Kincaid on the roster, I
- 26:27Speaker 1: feel like Knox is in this no man's land where
- 26:29Speaker 1: he's not the best pass catching tight end option because
- 26:32Speaker 1: that's Kincaid, and now he's no longer the best run
- 26:36Speaker 1: blocking tight end because that's Hawes. But Knox is the
- 26:40Speaker 1: best combination between run blocker and pass catcher because he's
- 26:44Speaker 1: a much better pass catcher than Jackson Hawes and he's
- 26:48Speaker 1: a actually, I would say, much better blocker than Kincaid.
- 26:51Speaker 1: But he is definitely a better blocker than Cancave and
- 26:54Speaker 1: has made a lot of strides there. So it's this
- 26:56Speaker 1: weird group for next year. This year, I think it's fine.
- 27:00Speaker 1: I'm excited to see what Hawes can do being incorporated
- 27:03Speaker 1: into this offense this year, but again, not too many
- 27:06Speaker 1: surprises with that tight end position. I'm going to go
- 27:10Speaker 1: to the comments here. Bob Sheet says, I hope Tyrol
- 27:15Speaker 1: Shavers gets an opportunity to show what he has in
- 27:19Speaker 1: a real game. I think that'll be fun. This is
- 27:21Speaker 1: funny from John saying, can you start from the beginning again?
- 27:23Speaker 1: My close captions are going too fast? I like that, oh,
- 27:26Speaker 1: Roy nice, says. Roy says, considering what they paid Knox
- 27:29Speaker 1: in his role, the Samuel contract isn't terrible. And then
- 27:32Speaker 1: with the you know, I roll emoji. Yeah, I both
- 27:35Speaker 1: are not great, but I'm picking up what you're putting down.
- 27:39Speaker 1: This is a great comment here. It's important to remember
- 27:41Speaker 1: our knowledge of injuries and what plans are for players
- 27:44Speaker 1: is extremely surface level. There's a lot we don't know. Yes,
- 27:47Speaker 1: That's why I made sure to title this episode the
- 27:49Speaker 1: initial fifty three man roster. There could be some gamesmanship happening.
- 27:54Speaker 1: We have guys that could make the roster that could
- 27:56Speaker 1: be you know, designated in certain ways advantageous to the roster.
- 28:01Speaker 1: So there are some things, yes, that we don't know.
- 28:03Speaker 1: Very fair point. M hmmm. What else? Ooh? Exile Cultivation
- 28:10Speaker 1: wants to trade one of the wide receivers. Later, Royce
- 28:14Speaker 1: says with more could we see a few more jet sweeps?
- 28:16Speaker 1: I think you could potentially. You also could see that
- 28:18Speaker 1: with Curtis Samuel as well. We just have to see
- 28:20Speaker 1: who's healthy. Ooh. James says, well, Zach Davidson get claimed.
- 28:25Speaker 1: I don't think so. There's a chance. I don't think so.
- 28:29Speaker 1: I think he's more of a of a practice squad
- 28:31Speaker 1: kind of dude. Uh Menta saying my concern is safety. Still,
- 28:37Speaker 1: I don't get why we didn't grab an available, bet
- 28:39Speaker 1: like Justin Simmons, to be at least in the room.
- 28:41Speaker 1: We can't bet that our d line can pressure enough
- 28:43Speaker 1: to make up for that gap. We will talk about
- 28:45Speaker 1: safety as we go forward. Ooh, Timbo a bit of
- 28:50Speaker 1: I'm gonna say a bit of a of a hot
- 28:51Speaker 1: take or a spicy take. He says Hawes is going
- 28:54Speaker 1: to end up being a better pass catcher than Knox.
- 28:57Speaker 1: We'll see, we'll see. I do think Hawes more effective
- 29:01Speaker 1: in as a pass catcher in the zero to ten
- 29:03Speaker 1: yard range. Not the knocks, but then he gets credit for.
- 29:07Speaker 1: I think he has some not you know, burst explosion,
- 29:11Speaker 1: but because he's a powerful guy, I think he has
- 29:13Speaker 1: some explosions zero to ten yards. I think he can
- 29:15Speaker 1: be effective as a pass catcher in that range. And
- 29:18Speaker 1: that's more than fine considering how good of a blocker
- 29:21Speaker 1: he is. We'll see. Fair comment here. Knox is a
- 29:24Speaker 1: reliable piece. He blocks his butt off and is good
- 29:27Speaker 1: for half a dozen clutch catches per season. Fair but
- 29:30Speaker 1: if you're playing Devil's advocate, he's also good for like
- 29:32Speaker 1: feel what feels like half a dozen like non clutch
- 29:35Speaker 1: drops and inconsistent inconsistency. I like him I don't like
- 29:39Speaker 1: what he gets paid, and I just think it's a
- 29:41Speaker 1: he's caught again in that no man's lamb. But we'll see.
- 29:46Speaker 1: Oh Matt says, where does Hawes rank as a blocking
- 29:48Speaker 1: tight end league wide? I have to see him against
- 29:50Speaker 1: the ones. I have to see him as like an
- 29:52Speaker 1: actual player in the regular season, not against you know,
- 29:57Speaker 1: the twos and the threes like he has this preseason.
- 29:59Speaker 1: But I will say his people moving ability against actual
- 30:02Speaker 1: defensive ends, guys that are like three hundred pounds, he
- 30:06Speaker 1: can get under them and through them and take him
- 30:09Speaker 1: out the club. That isn't tremendously common. So there's a
- 30:15Speaker 1: there's a chance he could be already as a rookie
- 30:18Speaker 1: towards the top in effectiveness. But if we're comparing you know,
- 30:22Speaker 1: blocking tight ends, are we just comparing him to pure
- 30:24Speaker 1: blocking tight ends or to all tight ends who are
- 30:26Speaker 1: kind of starters? But regardless, I need to see him
- 30:29Speaker 1: against ones and then the starting the starting option or
- 30:32Speaker 1: the starting option the starting roster, I should say, regular
- 30:35Speaker 1: season action kind of see what we get from there.
- 30:38Speaker 1: Let's go to the next position group here, the AWE
- 30:42Speaker 1: offensive line. Someone noted it earlier the activation of Cedric
- 30:48Speaker 1: van Prayan, Granger, So no ir or you know, pup
- 30:51Speaker 1: or anything for him right now. He can start getting
- 30:54Speaker 1: after it as soon as he's able to. In the
- 30:55Speaker 1: offensive line, we have nine right now, Dion Dawkins, David Edwards,
- 31:00Speaker 1: Connor McGovern o, Cyrus Torrence, Spencer Brown. You're starting five
- 31:04Speaker 1: and then your reserves Alec Anderson, Cedric van Prand Granger,
- 31:08Speaker 1: Chase Lunt, Ryan Vandamark. Now what I do wonder and
- 31:14Speaker 1: this is something we'll get into later. With the injuries,
- 31:17Speaker 1: Tyland Grabil being banged up, I am interested to see.
- 31:21Speaker 1: I'm actually gonna, you know, scroll fast really quick and
- 31:24Speaker 1: show you that Tyland Grabil is there on the injured
- 31:26Speaker 1: reserve piece, which we are going to talk about in
- 31:29Speaker 1: a little bit here on this episode. Once Grable is healthy,
- 31:33Speaker 1: they will have to make room on the fifty three.
- 31:36Speaker 1: My thought is the way they make room is probably
- 31:40Speaker 1: with Chase Lunt being moved in some capacity in order
- 31:45Speaker 1: to activate Grabel. I didn't think Lunt had a great preseason,
- 31:48Speaker 1: but they just picked him up. He's a rookie, He's
- 31:50Speaker 1: got some positional flex. Vander Mark also struggled a bit
- 31:53Speaker 1: this preseason, but I think his spot is more secure
- 31:57Speaker 1: than Lunt is. So if we're looking at this group
- 31:59Speaker 1: right now now, I really do think the top seven
- 32:02Speaker 1: are more than set and more than safe. With Dawkins, Edwards, McGovern,
- 32:05Speaker 1: Torrance Brown, Alec Anderson, and SVPG. I think that's set.
- 32:10Speaker 1: And then it comes down to when Grabil comes back,
- 32:13Speaker 1: who gets bounced. It's probably Lunt, and then who outranks
- 32:17Speaker 1: who between Grabil and vander Bark. But overall, I don't
- 32:21Speaker 1: think crazy amount of shock or anything for the offensive line.
- 32:26Speaker 1: I think the biggest thing, again, as someone noted earlier
- 32:28Speaker 1: in the chat, was that Cedric Vampere and Granger after
- 32:31Speaker 1: missing a bunch of camp and the entire preseason, the
- 32:34Speaker 1: fact that he was activated and made the fifty three
- 32:37Speaker 1: and not have to be put on the pup or
- 32:40Speaker 1: put on the short term IR or anything like that. Oh,
- 32:44Speaker 1: come in here from John Robert. This is a good one,
- 32:46Speaker 1: saying well Jackson Hawes take time away from Alec Anderson.
- 32:50Speaker 1: Oh good question. The Bills led the league in you know,
- 32:53Speaker 1: jumbo sets and six offensive linemen on the field at
- 32:56Speaker 1: one time last year with Alec Anderson and kind of
- 32:59Speaker 1: how they weaponized that personnel grouping. They had a really
- 33:02Speaker 1: effective pass game and run game out of that personnel grouping,
- 33:07Speaker 1: and they were strong on tape and within their advanced metrics.
- 33:11Speaker 1: I hope not, I can under I think he'll eat
- 33:14Speaker 1: into it a little bit, But I don't think, you know,
- 33:17Speaker 1: the Alec Anderson reps and the jumbo looks and the
- 33:19Speaker 1: six offensive line and stuff is going to go away completely.
- 33:22Speaker 1: What I do want to see is kind of leaning
- 33:25Speaker 1: into it harder in terms of putting Alec Anderson and
- 33:28Speaker 1: Jackson Hawes on the field at the same time. And
- 33:31Speaker 1: then if we go Alec Anderson, Jackson Hawes and Reggie Gilliam,
- 33:35Speaker 1: I just don't know how you come back that on
- 33:38Speaker 1: the front side. With how defenses are built nowadays, you're
- 33:41Speaker 1: gonna really need to go heavy, heavy to combat a
- 33:44Speaker 1: front side of Jackson Hawes, Alec Anderson and Reggie Gilliam,
- 33:49Speaker 1: And then Gilliam and Hawes are still athletic enough that
- 33:51Speaker 1: you can go play action and release him into the
- 33:53Speaker 1: flat or into the underneath or maybe even the low
- 33:56Speaker 1: intermediate and really catch teams. If you pair that with
- 33:58Speaker 1: a Josh Allen bootleg, how you're getting him on the
- 34:00Speaker 1: move move in the pocket, maybe you create an explosive
- 34:03Speaker 1: opportunity downfield depending on who the solo receiver is. I
- 34:08Speaker 1: don't think Alec Anderson's role is going anywhere. I think
- 34:11Speaker 1: Hawes will eat into it a little bit, but I
- 34:15Speaker 1: hope they kind of lean more into a heavy piece
- 34:17Speaker 1: again just with I like the comments from Timbo and
- 34:19Speaker 1: Matt and the chat right now. Yeah, I just given
- 34:25Speaker 1: the condensed nature of their offense, reducing the formational with
- 34:28Speaker 1: and how important the run game is. So much of
- 34:31Speaker 1: football now is matchups, you know, and you trying to
- 34:34Speaker 1: dictate the matchup to the other side of the ball,
- 34:36Speaker 1: defense versus offense, offense versus defense, And if you can
- 34:39Speaker 1: put a defense in hell purely by personnel, do it.
- 34:42Speaker 1: And I really think the Bills can. It's part of
- 34:44Speaker 1: what made the Bills successful last year. They're wide receivers
- 34:46Speaker 1: being big but also athletic and being able to function
- 34:50Speaker 1: as pass catchers and blockers. It put defenses into a
- 34:52Speaker 1: bund and I think you could do that again with
- 34:55Speaker 1: having like Hawes, Anderson and Gillingham in together, because how
- 34:59Speaker 1: do you answer that as a defense. So many defenses
- 35:02Speaker 1: are nickel defenses now with a true nickel. So in
- 35:06Speaker 1: order to combat that, you either need another linebacker or
- 35:09Speaker 1: a big nickel third safety. You might even need to
- 35:13Speaker 1: go like heavier than that. Like you, you really have
- 35:16Speaker 1: to have the right type of guys. You need an
- 35:18Speaker 1: edge that can set the run. You can't have too
- 35:21Speaker 1: much of a pass rush focused edge. If it's an
- 35:23Speaker 1: edge one or an edge two, are you flipping the side?
- 35:26Speaker 1: You know that your edge one is on it. If
- 35:27Speaker 1: he's more rush focused, to kind of put him on
- 35:29Speaker 1: the back side than the front side. You can put
- 35:31Speaker 1: a defense in some schematic hell and make them have
- 35:33Speaker 1: to answer questions by getting crazy with how heavy and
- 35:36Speaker 1: physical you go on the front side. So I'm excited
- 35:39Speaker 1: for that. That's a good question. I appreciate folks being
- 35:43Speaker 1: excited for that. And no, this is a good comment
- 35:45Speaker 1: here too, right saying I love that idea would give
- 35:47Speaker 1: key on one on one matchups in space. That's a
- 35:50Speaker 1: fun thing too, Right. So if that's all your heavy
- 35:52Speaker 1: piece attached to the formation, you're gonna have a solo
- 35:55Speaker 1: pass catcher out essentially one on one. That could be
- 35:59Speaker 1: Josh Palmer, who excels in beating man coverage and winning
- 36:03Speaker 1: one on one, especially underneath. In the intermediate, it could
- 36:05Speaker 1: be Keyan Coleman, it could be Dalton Kincaid, and maybe
- 36:09Speaker 1: he's up against the corner who he has an advantage
- 36:11Speaker 1: of because he's got he's longer, and he's bigger, and
- 36:14Speaker 1: he's still athletic and is still a good route runner.
- 36:17Speaker 1: There's a whole bunch of questions you can force a
- 36:19Speaker 1: defense to answer with that, you know, type of heavier
- 36:21Speaker 1: personnel package and look, especially situationally, and especially because defenses
- 36:26Speaker 1: are gonna have to walk dudes into the box because
- 36:29Speaker 1: they're gonna have to onto the run out of that look,
- 36:31Speaker 1: the Bills could just line up in that and run
- 36:33Speaker 1: duo and blow defenses off the ball. Mix in some
- 36:37Speaker 1: weak side mid zone that they like to do, and
- 36:39Speaker 1: attack the weak side away from the strength. There's just
- 36:43Speaker 1: so much they can do with that, and yet potentially
- 36:45Speaker 1: open up some things for that solo wide receiver, whether
- 36:48Speaker 1: it's Keon or someone else. And again tying into the
- 36:50Speaker 1: explosive beach, you go play action. Let Palmer maybe beat
- 36:53Speaker 1: somebody in a double move, hit him downfield. A lot
- 36:56Speaker 1: of options, a lot of options. I'm excited for that.
- 37:00Speaker 1: Steve said, if you sit and just focus on Hawes
- 37:02Speaker 1: in the preseason games. The dude can block. I was
- 37:05Speaker 1: having some Lee Smith visions. Oh I spent. I put
- 37:07Speaker 1: out a bunch of clips purely a pause this per
- 37:09Speaker 1: preseason just with him people moving the hell out of
- 37:12Speaker 1: dudes front side. It was a nice piece. Yeah, but
- 37:16Speaker 1: good offensive line grouping, really strong starting five. Biggest thing
- 37:19Speaker 1: to watch is Spencer Brown's health. Everyone's health. This offensive
- 37:24Speaker 1: line has played a lot of games together as a
- 37:26Speaker 1: starting unit the past two years. Spencer Brown got hurt
- 37:30Speaker 1: this past offseason, missed some times, missed some time. It
- 37:33Speaker 1: seems like he knows what you know, caused the injury
- 37:35Speaker 1: in terms of how he was working out, how much
- 37:37Speaker 1: he was pushing himself. Sounds like he's in a good
- 37:39Speaker 1: place now. But that offensive line is a real quality
- 37:43Speaker 1: group as in terms of past protection and run blocking.
- 37:47Speaker 1: They need to stay healthy. And then again, I do
- 37:49Speaker 1: think they have a solid, real solid top six. Alec
- 37:52Speaker 1: Anderson gives you some positional flex on the interior even
- 37:55Speaker 1: playing tackle as well. And then I like Cedric van
- 37:57Speaker 1: Prin Granger hadn't seen a ton of reg NFL season snaps,
- 38:02Speaker 1: so we'll see what he can be. But overall solid group.
- 38:05Speaker 1: And then I think once Grabil comes back, Lunt goes
- 38:09Speaker 1: vand of Mark stays and we'll still sit there with nine.
- 38:11Speaker 1: But a good group and not too many surprises. All right,
- 38:14Speaker 1: let's move on to the defensive line. I am grouping
- 38:18Speaker 1: the defensive line as one group, so we're gonna talk
- 38:22Speaker 1: about the edges and the defensive tackles. I don't think
- 38:25Speaker 1: too many surprises when it comes to the edges slash
- 38:28Speaker 1: defensive ends. Greg Russo, Joey Bosa, aj Apanessa Javon, Solomon,
- 38:32Speaker 1: Landon Jackson. I don't think anything too crazy. I don't
- 38:35Speaker 1: think this is nuts. I think what'll be interesting And
- 38:38Speaker 1: the biggest question is once Michael Hoyt comes back from suspension. Oh,
- 38:43Speaker 1: I gotta stop because he got a super chat morning.
- 38:45Speaker 1: Mine says, Oh, thank you very much for being here.
- 38:48Speaker 1: I think if it's a super chat, she says, thanks Aunt.
- 38:50Speaker 1: Still love the tree, Thanks Al. Yeah, because I'm a
- 38:53Speaker 1: little smaller because I got the screen up here, you
- 38:54Speaker 1: can only see it a little bit, but yep, still
- 38:56Speaker 1: rocking the Christmas tree as always. I appreciate you recognize that.
- 39:00Speaker 1: Thank you so much. Yeah, Argie says, some surprise they
- 39:04Speaker 1: kept the whole off and show RVD. Nice reference. Nice
- 39:06Speaker 1: reference there. I'm always a fan of a wrestling reference
- 39:08Speaker 1: be woven in there. Yeah. The only real question for
- 39:11Speaker 1: me with defensive end or the edge grouping is once
- 39:15Speaker 1: Michael Hoyt comes back, who goes? Who goes to make
- 39:18Speaker 1: space for Michael Hoyt entering the fifty three? Is it
- 39:21Speaker 1: a defensive end, is it one of the wide receivers?
- 39:26Speaker 1: Is it some other position like where do you make space?
- 39:30Speaker 1: And then if it is from the edge grouping, I
- 39:32Speaker 1: still do think despite the fact that they both made
- 39:34Speaker 1: the fifty three here, I really do feel like Javon
- 39:36Speaker 1: Solomon and Land and Jackson are fighting for reps here,
- 39:41Speaker 1: and if someone has to get dropped, I'm assuming it
- 39:45Speaker 1: would be Solomon because he's more likely to still get
- 39:48Speaker 1: back to your practice squad than Jackson. I think if
- 39:50Speaker 1: you cut Jackson in any way, shape or form, it's
- 39:53Speaker 1: gonna be tough to get him back on the practice squad,
- 39:55Speaker 1: just because he's a rookie and he's got some traits
- 39:56Speaker 1: that teams like. But Jackson would really have to fall
- 40:01Speaker 1: off a cliff I think for him to get dropped
- 40:03Speaker 1: when Hoyt comes back, and or Solomon would just have
- 40:05Speaker 1: to be this pass rushing Maven who's just got tons
- 40:08Speaker 1: of production and effectiveness those first six weeks. Or it
- 40:11Speaker 1: could be neither of those things. And they want to
- 40:13Speaker 1: keep six defensive ends and they're going to cut someone
- 40:16Speaker 1: from another position group. But no surprises I think right now. Initially,
- 40:19Speaker 1: especially with Hoyt being suspended. I think if Hoyt wasn't suspended,
- 40:24Speaker 1: this could have been, you know, maybe a little spicy
- 40:27Speaker 1: group depending on who got dropped defensive tackle similar conversation
- 40:33Speaker 1: because we have a suspension. But if you see here
- 40:35Speaker 1: on the screen, they kept five Ed Oliver, Daikwon Jones, TJ. Sanders,
- 40:39Speaker 1: Dion Walker, Dwayne Carter. I don't think there are any
- 40:42Speaker 1: surprises there. The only question is would they still have
- 40:46Speaker 1: kept five had Larry Ogunjobi Ben healthy. Looks like they
- 40:51Speaker 1: probably would have. I would assume Dwayne Carter would have
- 40:55Speaker 1: been bounced and would have been the outside man looking in.
- 40:58Speaker 1: I think Carter is fine considering he's really defensive tackle six.
- 41:04Speaker 1: And if you wanted to keep five because Owen Joby's out,
- 41:06Speaker 1: he's defensive tackle five. What I don't like with this group,
- 41:11Speaker 1: And again time will just really tell. You've got Ed Oliver,
- 41:15Speaker 1: you've got Daikwon Jones, You've got t J. Sanders, You've
- 41:17Speaker 1: got Dion Walker, you've got Dwayne Carter. You only have
- 41:19Speaker 1: one true one tech here, and that is Daikwon Jones.
- 41:23Speaker 1: Even when Ogun Jobi's back from suspension, he's also a three.
- 41:26Speaker 1: So the only true one tech you have is Daikwon Jones.
- 41:30Speaker 1: That means other guys are gonna have the moonlight in
- 41:32Speaker 1: that role. T J. Sanders will probably see a lot
- 41:33Speaker 1: of time at three, but he'll see someone at some point.
- 41:36Speaker 1: Dion Walker's gonna see a bunch of time at one,
- 41:38Speaker 1: also some three. But Walker's not even though he's huge
- 41:41Speaker 1: in a mountain of a man, he's not a true one.
- 41:43Speaker 1: He is more of a three even like a four
- 41:45Speaker 1: ie and a five. He's just a penetrator and an
- 41:47Speaker 1: agile big man who looks to penetrate and slash. And
- 41:51Speaker 1: then Dwayne Carter just has been really ineffective at almost
- 41:55Speaker 1: anything and everything he's done. Three tech one tech, playing
- 41:59Speaker 1: the run, playing the just a lot of ineffectiveness across
- 42:02Speaker 1: the board for Carter. I think this one's pretty easy.
- 42:04Speaker 1: When Ogun joeby comes back, Ogun Joby comes back, Carter
- 42:07Speaker 1: drops with a practice squad, or is just released. We'll
- 42:11Speaker 1: kind of see what happens if anybody claims him. But
- 42:14Speaker 1: he is entering year two. I think there's a chance
- 42:16Speaker 1: somebody might take a flyer on him. If he had
- 42:18Speaker 1: a team. We had a really high grade on him
- 42:19Speaker 1: last year as a rookie. Maybe they think they can
- 42:21Speaker 1: be the ones to tap into him, which also could
- 42:23Speaker 1: happen if you commit him more to three tech and
- 42:26Speaker 1: have him shed some weight and play more towards his
- 42:29Speaker 1: duke frame and weight than what he's been playing at
- 42:32Speaker 1: in Buffalo, where they've asked him to have the ability
- 42:35Speaker 1: to handle one tech end three tech responsibilities. In order
- 42:38Speaker 1: to do that, he's had to put on some more weight.
- 42:40Speaker 1: I think there's a chance somebody could tap into him
- 42:42Speaker 1: and make him, you know, a solid rotational four, maybe
- 42:45Speaker 1: even a three is a high end. But I think
- 42:48Speaker 1: the floor is man and I think the ceiling is
- 42:51Speaker 1: low for him, So we'll see what happens. I don't
- 42:54Speaker 1: think Dean Walker's getting dropped unless he gets hurt and
- 42:56Speaker 1: they have to move him to the pup or the
- 42:57Speaker 1: injury list, like he flashed really positively this priest season.
- 43:01Speaker 1: I really like the way he came into camp and
- 43:02Speaker 1: kind of repurposed his body weight trim down. He looked
- 43:06Speaker 1: like he was moving healthier. I think the only thing
- 43:08Speaker 1: that compromises things for Walker this year is his health.
- 43:11Speaker 1: I don't think he's gonna see a ton of snaps.
- 43:13Speaker 1: I do think there's even a chance where Carter out
- 43:15Speaker 1: snaps him to start the year. Maybe, but I think
- 43:20Speaker 1: Walker when everybody's good, when it's ed Dai Kwon, Sanders, Ogan, Jobi,
- 43:25Speaker 1: and Walker, I do think you'll see Walker maybe around
- 43:27Speaker 1: like fifteen snaps a game ballpark, but he's going one
- 43:31Speaker 1: hundred miles an hour for one hundred percent each of
- 43:34Speaker 1: those snaps. You're using him to just purely take advantage of.
- 43:38Speaker 1: He's fresh and he's a monster. Go inside and go
- 43:42Speaker 1: be Godzilla or King Kong on this third and seven
- 43:45Speaker 1: or on this third and eight, or hey, we're up
- 43:47Speaker 1: by you know, seventeen in the fourth quarter and they
- 43:50Speaker 1: got to pass a ton. We're putting you in on
- 43:52Speaker 1: this series because you're fresh and you can just wreck shop,
- 43:55Speaker 1: and we think they're going to have to pass the
- 43:56Speaker 1: ball a ton. He's also been good on gap scheme
- 43:58Speaker 1: recognition against the un which has been really nice to see.
- 44:01Speaker 1: But I do think run defense is still a work
- 44:04Speaker 1: in progress for Dean Walker. I think he needs to
- 44:07Speaker 1: consistently use his hands and play to his length to
- 44:10Speaker 1: keep guys from getting into his chest, which he did
- 44:13Speaker 1: much better against Tampa Bay than he did the week
- 44:15Speaker 1: before against Chicago. Needs to work on not getting washed down.
- 44:19Speaker 1: Leverage is always going to be a thing. We got
- 44:20Speaker 1: to keep an eye on, right him getting blown off
- 44:22Speaker 1: the ball vertically or horizontally getting washed down or you know,
- 44:26Speaker 1: moved and displaced, things like that. But really positive preseason
- 44:30Speaker 1: for Dion Walker, and I think he's locked into a
- 44:33Speaker 1: roster spot. I don't think he's here because Ogan Joby
- 44:36Speaker 1: is suspended. I think he's clearly in, you know, the
- 44:38Speaker 1: top five for this defensive tackle grouping, and once Ogan
- 44:42Speaker 1: Jobey comes back, Carter probably goes. But we'll see, we
- 44:46Speaker 1: will see. We will see our Jscer comment there. We
- 44:51Speaker 1: will be getting in the corner a little bit when
- 44:52Speaker 1: we talk about trade. This is good, Lawrence fantastic. Lawren
- 44:55Speaker 1: says there's four hundred and forty people watching it, only
- 44:57Speaker 1: sixty something likes on YouTube, don't do Anthony dirty like that.
- 45:00Speaker 1: Everybody be like Lauren, I appreciate you very much for that, Lauren,
- 45:03Speaker 1: thank you. And Ay. I know it may seem corny,
- 45:05Speaker 1: but like I always say, because it's true, likes are
- 45:08Speaker 1: the lifeblood of these streams. So if you are enjoying
- 45:10Speaker 1: this episode, or you're happy about the bills roster, or
- 45:14Speaker 1: you had a good day, or you had a good dinner,
- 45:16Speaker 1: or you're eating like some ice cream right now and
- 45:18Speaker 1: it's delicious, or you're excited about hard Knocks, whatever. If
- 45:21Speaker 1: you're feeling good, drop alike on this video. Obviously it's
- 45:25Speaker 1: better if you're droping alke because you actually like the content.
- 45:27Speaker 1: But likes are tremendously helpful, So please, please, please and
- 45:29Speaker 1: think you drop alike if you folks are enjoying this content.
- 45:34Speaker 1: Andrew says he is still underwhelming a three tech. Are
- 45:36Speaker 1: you talking about Carter? Are you talking about Walker? If
- 45:38Speaker 1: you're talking about Carter, yes, he's underwhelming either way and
- 45:41Speaker 1: ineffective Carter. I'm assuming you're talking about Carter, but I'll
- 45:46Speaker 1: wait for your answer. Arjie says, if you can't teach
- 45:51Speaker 1: a six seven, three hundred and forty pound monster how
- 45:53Speaker 1: to be a one tech then your d line coach
- 45:55Speaker 1: sucks fair, But also part of it is the body
- 45:58Speaker 1: type in the composition. It's hard, Okay, Andrew says Carter,
- 46:02Speaker 1: That's what I figured. I'm not on the same page.
- 46:05Speaker 1: It's hard to teach a guy that big to play
- 46:08Speaker 1: that role like it. You might think, oh, he's a monster,
- 46:11Speaker 1: so he should play a monster type or role, But
- 46:13Speaker 1: because of how he's built, I think it's harder for
- 46:15Speaker 1: him to anchor. It's harder for him to have leverage.
- 46:18Speaker 1: And being able to anchor and have leverage are two
- 46:21Speaker 1: really key cogs and important parts of being able to
- 46:24Speaker 1: play one tech. You got to be able to withstand
- 46:26Speaker 1: double teams. You got to be able to either anchor
- 46:28Speaker 1: and play with leverage, or you got to be able
- 46:31Speaker 1: to drop the knee, be able to have that lower
- 46:33Speaker 1: body flexibility, that torque in your upper body to kind
- 46:36Speaker 1: of reduce your surface area and play off of it.
- 46:39Speaker 1: And that's aside from having the block recognition, the hand usage,
- 46:42Speaker 1: all of that. Right, I do think it is a
- 46:45Speaker 1: work in progress, and you can be coached up for
- 46:47Speaker 1: some of it. But for as much as his size
- 46:51Speaker 1: might make you think he should be coached into a
- 46:53Speaker 1: one tech role, or should be able to. I think
- 46:56Speaker 1: you could also play Devil's advocate and make the case
- 46:58Speaker 1: for the other side that his size also might be
- 47:02Speaker 1: a detriment to him playing one tech because he can't
- 47:04Speaker 1: anchor or not anchor, not that he can't, because it's
- 47:07Speaker 1: harder for him too. But I'm excited to see what
- 47:11Speaker 1: he does. And you know, again, I was pleasantly surprised
- 47:15Speaker 1: with his preseason play. I will say that Royce said
- 47:20Speaker 1: Carter was drafted to be a penetrating three tech Oliver's backup.
- 47:23Speaker 1: Now they're trying to make him a one tech. How
- 47:24Speaker 1: much of his underwhelming play is actually his fault. I
- 47:28Speaker 1: think that's a very fair comment. I've said it on
- 47:29Speaker 1: the show, like I think they tried to take a
- 47:32Speaker 1: bit of a round peg and put it in a
- 47:34Speaker 1: square hole, and as a result, he got caught in
- 47:36Speaker 1: no man's land. I always thought the run defense piece
- 47:40Speaker 1: would be a struggle for him. You know, double teams
- 47:43Speaker 1: were a struggle for him at Duke, and he would
- 47:45Speaker 1: gt blown off the ball from time to time. But
- 47:48Speaker 1: I thought his calling card would be, you know, would
- 47:51Speaker 1: be him being a rotational three penetrating and rushing the QB,
- 47:55Speaker 1: and then they added he had him add some more weight,
- 47:58Speaker 1: and then he's also playing one tech. I just don't think.
- 48:00Speaker 1: I don't think the way they used him played to
- 48:02Speaker 1: his traits and his skill set necessarily. So some of
- 48:06Speaker 1: it is on him, but I do think some of
- 48:08Speaker 1: it is on the staff for kind of what they
- 48:11Speaker 1: asked him to do or what they wanted him to do.
- 48:14Speaker 1: Same thing for Austin Johnson last year. Austin Johnson was
- 48:16Speaker 1: a big plugger and a rotational one at his previous stops.
- 48:20Speaker 1: They had him shed some weight to kind of moonlight
- 48:22Speaker 1: as a one and a three, so it was like
- 48:24Speaker 1: they kind of put him and Carter into no man's
- 48:26Speaker 1: land a little bit. Oh good comment question in common
- 48:31Speaker 1: here Chris says, what is the difference between a one
- 48:32Speaker 1: tech and a three tech? For those of us that
- 48:34Speaker 1: don't know, I'm sure are not the only one. So
- 48:37Speaker 1: one tech in three tech refers to where they are aligned.
- 48:41Speaker 1: So a one tech is aligned on the shoulder of
- 48:45Speaker 1: the center. Sometimes you'll hear people refer to it as
- 48:48Speaker 1: a shade. So if you're lyned head up on the center,
- 48:50Speaker 1: that's a zero technique. If you're lined up on the shoulder,
- 48:53Speaker 1: that's a one technique, and then a three technique is
- 48:57Speaker 1: also referred to an alignment. So if we keep going
- 48:59Speaker 1: down the line, head up on the center as a zero.
- 49:03Speaker 1: Outside shoulder of the center is a one inside shoulder
- 49:08Speaker 1: of the guard. If we keep going down the line
- 49:10Speaker 1: is a two to I, head up on the guard
- 49:13Speaker 1: is a two. Outside shoulder of the guard is a three.
- 49:18Speaker 1: So different alignments and then also different usages. Usually, if
- 49:22Speaker 1: you are a one tech, you're more of a Daekwon
- 49:24Speaker 1: Jones type of player, so you're handling the inside more.
- 49:27Speaker 1: On the run, you are more of an anchor presence,
- 49:29Speaker 1: kind of a run fitter and a plugger to a degree,
- 49:32Speaker 1: although in the Bills defense you still need to get upfield.
- 49:35Speaker 1: Three tech you are obviously further outside from the ball.
- 49:40Speaker 1: You're usually aligned to kind of the open side of
- 49:42Speaker 1: that formation, being able to get upfield attack the quarterback penetrate.
- 49:46Speaker 1: There's a different level of responsibilities, but it all starts
- 49:49Speaker 1: with that initial alignment and where you are. And again,
- 49:52Speaker 1: if you really want to kind of put it into
- 49:54Speaker 1: perspective of what does a one tech look like or
- 49:56Speaker 1: what does a three tech look like a one tech
- 49:58Speaker 1: is Daikwon Jones, A three TI tech is at Oliver.
- 50:01Speaker 1: So think of how both those guys play and what
- 50:03Speaker 1: you see them doing. That's what a one tech is,
- 50:05Speaker 1: That's what a three tech is. Good question. I like
- 50:11Speaker 1: questions like that because it makes me. It reminds me
- 50:13Speaker 1: that not everybody's a regular watcher or listener or the show.
- 50:16Speaker 1: So if anybody ever has a question like that, if
- 50:18Speaker 1: I'm talking about an alignment or a technique, or a
- 50:20Speaker 1: coverage or a concept anything, always feel free to ask
- 50:24Speaker 1: those questions. Really appreciate you asking that, Chris, Thank you
- 50:26Speaker 1: very much. Steve says, when Hoyt comes back, could Shack
- 50:31Speaker 1: Thompson be the guy that gets cut if our linebackers
- 50:34Speaker 1: are healthy? Oh, potentially because they did keep five. We'll
- 50:38Speaker 1: talk about it. Actually, let's let's move on to the
- 50:43Speaker 1: linebackers there. We're gonna combine it all into one group,
- 50:47Speaker 1: not all in one group, but this next group, and
- 50:49Speaker 1: we're gonna do linebackers DB's and we're gonna do safeties.
- 50:54Speaker 1: We'll start with the linebackers there. Yeah, five linebackers for
- 50:56Speaker 1: the Bills. Torel Bernard, Matt Mlano, Dorian Williams, Joe Andreeson.
- 51:00Speaker 1: I don't think any of those are a surprise. You
- 51:02Speaker 1: got your starters, and Bernard and Milano, Dorrian Williams' linebacker three.
- 51:06Speaker 1: If they're gonna go three linebackers on the field, if
- 51:08Speaker 1: they're gonna take out Taron Johnson and replace them with
- 51:10Speaker 1: a linebacker, it's Dorian Williams. I think I might just
- 51:13Speaker 1: said Dorian STROMP. Great now I'm gonna do. I'm gonna
- 51:15Speaker 1: do the Dorian name thing the way I do the
- 51:17Speaker 1: Jackson and Spencer Hawes thing. Fantastic. So Bernard, Mulano, Dorian
- 51:21Speaker 1: Andresen top four I thought was pretty set. Andresen gives
- 51:27Speaker 1: you special teams value, Dorrian gives you special teams value,
- 51:30Speaker 1: and Dorian is the clear linebacker three here. Linebacker five
- 51:34Speaker 1: I thought was kind of a toss up. I thought
- 51:36Speaker 1: Jimmy Charlow had an actual chance to make the roster
- 51:39Speaker 1: because of his special teams value, and the Bills have
- 51:42Speaker 1: talked about keeping guys just for special teams value, and
- 51:47Speaker 1: Charloe made some plays on defense as well. Specter obviously
- 51:51Speaker 1: got cut earlier on so I thought linebacker five was
- 51:55Speaker 1: a bit of a toss up. If they were gonna
- 51:56Speaker 1: keep the fifth linebacker. The biggest toss up piece for
- 51:59Speaker 1: me was if Shaq Thompson was healthy or not, and
- 52:02Speaker 1: if he could make the fifty three. He had some
- 52:04Speaker 1: nice plays in camp. He knows this defense. He's a
- 52:07Speaker 1: veteran presence. I don't think he has any legs left,
- 52:13Speaker 1: and he already kind of got banged up this camp.
- 52:15Speaker 1: But he is linebacker five for the moment. Now. Laurence says,
- 52:20Speaker 1: did I catch you singing the burger king Bottom? I might.
- 52:24Speaker 1: I might have just been like, I don't know if
- 52:26Speaker 1: that was that officially, that's fair. I might have done
- 52:29Speaker 1: it subconsciously the way I call Jackson haw Spencer, that's fair.
- 52:33Speaker 1: I want to go back to that comment. Where are we?
- 52:38Speaker 1: I went too far in the comments? Sorry? Well whoever
- 52:41Speaker 1: asked if would they drop Shaq Thompson once Hoyt comes back.
- 52:45Speaker 1: It depends on what they want to do with Shaq Thompson.
- 52:50Speaker 1: What's interesting with Shaq Thompson is obviously he's the fifth linebacker.
- 52:54Speaker 1: Usually their fifth linebacker gets a lot of special teams work.
- 52:57Speaker 1: I don't know how much special teams work he's gonna get,
- 52:59Speaker 1: and if he does, I would think it's probably on
- 53:01Speaker 1: punt coverage. Granted, the kick return game is a different
- 53:04Speaker 1: a bit of a different mixture now with the new rules,
- 53:07Speaker 1: so he could see some kickoff coverage stuff or some
- 53:09Speaker 1: kick return stuff. But I don't see him being a
- 53:11Speaker 1: huge factor on special teams. But I would assume he's
- 53:14Speaker 1: going to be because they're keeping him as that fifth linebacker.
- 53:19Speaker 1: But it'll really determine, or really be determined by what
- 53:23Speaker 1: they use Shaq Thompson as and what he looks like.
- 53:25Speaker 1: I think it's a possibility that maybe they cut him,
- 53:28Speaker 1: and that's, you know, to make room if if all
- 53:30Speaker 1: five defensive ends are cruising right Rousseau and Bosa and
- 53:34Speaker 1: Epanessa and Solomon and Jackson, and then you're bringing hoy
- 53:39Speaker 1: back and you're like, we don't want to drop one
- 53:40Speaker 1: of the edges. Where can we cut? Shaq Thompson might
- 53:43Speaker 1: be somebody that gets moved to make room for Hoyt
- 53:45Speaker 1: or maybe make room for ogun job if there isn't
- 53:48Speaker 1: a like for like kind of application available there. But
- 53:51Speaker 1: kudos to Shack Thompson making this team again. You know,
- 53:54Speaker 1: McDermott loves him. He's got familiarity with the staff, he's
- 53:56Speaker 1: got a and the system. He's got a tremendous head
- 53:59Speaker 1: on his shoulders. He was the game. He's probably a
- 54:01Speaker 1: wealth of knowledge for that linebacker room, especially for somebody
- 54:04Speaker 1: like Terrell Bernard, who is super smart, super cerebral, super heady,
- 54:08Speaker 1: was very pro ready coming out of Baylor, coming from
- 54:11Speaker 1: David Randa's defense there and then fitting into this defense.
- 54:16Speaker 1: I think Shack Thompson could be a real, real nice
- 54:20Speaker 1: piece to the development of Terrell Bernard, and even just
- 54:24Speaker 1: keeping him on the roster for that so he can
- 54:27Speaker 1: be in the room to increase that dude's knowledge. That
- 54:31Speaker 1: could be fun. But yeah, I don't think too many
- 54:35Speaker 1: crazy surprises with linebacker. Really came down to who is
- 54:38Speaker 1: the fifth dude that they were going to keep, and
- 54:41Speaker 1: it ended up being Shack Thompson. I just didn't know
- 54:42Speaker 1: how healthy he was going to be. He was gonna be,
- 54:47Speaker 1: he was going to be. See a lot of questions
- 54:49Speaker 1: still coming through on defense tackles, I'll answer them now
- 54:51Speaker 1: now here. Andrew says, understand that Walker probably won't be
- 54:54Speaker 1: three tech on early rushdowns, but do you think they
- 54:56Speaker 1: would put him in on third and lungs there? Yeah?
- 54:58Speaker 1: I think they'll use him a bunch. I think you're
- 55:01Speaker 1: not even just him. I think you're gonna get a
- 55:03Speaker 1: lot of different looks for the defensive line on known
- 55:07Speaker 1: rushdowns or on known you know, passing down in distance
- 55:10Speaker 1: or situations. I think you could see Bosa kicked inside.
- 55:13Speaker 1: I think you could see TJ. Sanders in a wide
- 55:15Speaker 1: alignment like in a four eye or head up on
- 55:18Speaker 1: a tackle, and then Greg Russau or Bosa outside of him.
- 55:22Speaker 1: I think you could see Walker head up on a
- 55:24Speaker 1: center all the way to kind of being at a
- 55:26Speaker 1: five like on the outside shoulder of a tackle. I
- 55:29Speaker 1: think there's a lot of potential to do a lot
- 55:32Speaker 1: of mixing and matching with the body types that they
- 55:34Speaker 1: have once you get into known passing situations again, whether
- 55:38Speaker 1: it's down in distance or situationally in the game. I
- 55:42Speaker 1: think that that's a potential for Walker, but potential for
- 55:46Speaker 1: potential for a lot of guys on this defensive line,
- 55:48Speaker 1: which is fun and a very cool and encouraging thing.
- 55:53Speaker 1: And yeah, again, as far as Dion Walker, he's huge.
- 55:56Speaker 1: I don't think he's a run first guy. He's a
- 55:58Speaker 1: pass rush first kind of guy, which makes sense because
- 56:00Speaker 1: that's what the bills like on the interior. But if
- 56:02Speaker 1: he can keep reading gap schemes and keep understanding that, oh,
- 56:06Speaker 1: the center just moved away from me. Here comes the
- 56:08Speaker 1: down block. Let me beat that guy. Let me gum
- 56:11Speaker 1: up another down block creates some freedom. There is something
- 56:16Speaker 1: to be said for, you know, not defending the run
- 56:19Speaker 1: with displacement, but defending it with penetration and chaos creation.
- 56:22Speaker 1: And Walker could be a step in that direction. So
- 56:25Speaker 1: nothing crazy for the linebackers. Again, kudos to Shack could
- 56:30Speaker 1: come in here saying, you know, Bernard and Milonald's injury
- 56:32Speaker 1: history makes extra vet linebacker depth a good idea. I
- 56:34Speaker 1: think that's fair. It's just a matter of how much
- 56:38Speaker 1: real depth is Shaq Thompson and how much he can move.
- 56:41Speaker 1: He didn't seem like he had anything really left in
- 56:43Speaker 1: his legs last year in Carolina. He's been hurt so much.
- 56:46Speaker 1: But we'll see defensive backs talked about it a bit.
- 56:52Speaker 1: So we've got seven dbs essentially cornerbacks here, Christian benfer
- 56:56Speaker 1: Tredevius White, Dorian Strong, JaMarcus Ingram, Tarren Johnson, and cam
- 57:00Speaker 1: Lewis Brandon Codrington. Now Codrington should have an asterisk because
- 57:06Speaker 1: I do not think he's a real defensive back in
- 57:08Speaker 1: any jape or form. He is return specialist only, which
- 57:13Speaker 1: means we really only have Benford, Trey Strong, Ingram, Tarren
- 57:18Speaker 1: and Cam Lewis. He essentially got six DB's now. It's
- 57:21Speaker 1: nice and I talked about this earlier today. If Trey
- 57:25Speaker 1: White is hurt and unable to go in Week one,
- 57:28Speaker 1: which him not having an injury designation, I think is
- 57:32Speaker 1: good news that he might be trending in the right
- 57:34Speaker 1: direction to play in week one. Max Harriston was already
- 57:37Speaker 1: put on the injured list. We're going to talk about
- 57:39Speaker 1: that in a little bit, But if Trey is out
- 57:41Speaker 1: for Week one, I know a lot of folks are
- 57:43Speaker 1: high on Dorian Strong. I want Tramarcus Ingram starting at
- 57:46Speaker 1: CB two, especially against Baltimore. What he offers as a
- 57:49Speaker 1: run defender and as a run fitter inside outside versatility,
- 57:53Speaker 1: the physicality and the nastiness he plays with, and while
- 57:57Speaker 1: not being the strongest cover guy, I still do think
- 57:59Speaker 1: he's a better coverage guy than he gets credit for.
- 58:02Speaker 1: I would like JaMarcus Ingram to start at CB two
- 58:04Speaker 1: in Week one if Trey White is unable to go. Overall,
- 58:09Speaker 1: I like this room. You've got a true CB one
- 58:11Speaker 1: in Christian Benford. We'll see what Trey White looks like
- 58:15Speaker 1: from a health standpoint, and overall we'll see what this
- 58:18Speaker 1: group looks like when Harston comes back and then Dorian Strong.
- 58:22Speaker 1: I was been underwhelmed by Strong this preseason, largely from
- 58:26Speaker 1: a run defense standpoint. Just not good in his run fits,
- 58:29Speaker 1: not good at you know the crack replaces or stepping
- 58:33Speaker 1: up and being a forced player against duo. So a
- 58:36Speaker 1: bit unfortunate there. But you know, I understand his pedigree
- 58:40Speaker 1: and his scheme fit, so him making the roster isn't
- 58:43Speaker 1: crazy again. I like JaMarcus Ingram inside outside versatility. I
- 58:46Speaker 1: think this is where you know and why I have
- 58:49Speaker 1: everything listed together. You start to get some positional value
- 58:52Speaker 1: in flex. JaMarcus Ingram can play inside in the slot.
- 58:55Speaker 1: He can also play outside as a corner. Cam Lewis
- 58:58Speaker 1: is your backup nickel number one. I also think he
- 59:01Speaker 1: might be safety three. I know he's not listed here
- 59:04Speaker 1: as a safety. I think Cam Lewis is Safety three
- 59:07Speaker 1: and DeMar Hamlin is Safety four. I think we'll see
- 59:11Speaker 1: we've also got Jordan Hancock, who can play a little
- 59:13Speaker 1: nickel but it looks like they're converting him and kind
- 59:16Speaker 1: of not compromising him, committing him to more of a
- 59:19Speaker 1: true safety role. So an interesting mix, I think in
- 59:23Speaker 1: the overall defensive back room between corner and safety. But again,
- 59:26Speaker 1: if we're talking about true corners, it's Benford, Trey Strong,
- 59:31Speaker 1: JaMarcus Ingram, Like if you're talking at outside corners only,
- 59:34Speaker 1: it is those four guys. And when Harston comes back,
- 59:37Speaker 1: we'll see what that means for Strong, We'll see what
- 59:39Speaker 1: that means for Ingram, We'll see what kind of the
- 59:42Speaker 1: maneuverability happens there. And then again, cam Lewis is your
- 59:45Speaker 1: backup Nickel, and I think safety three, maybe safety four.
- 59:49Speaker 1: I know they love DeMar Hamlin. Cam Lewis has played
- 59:52Speaker 1: better than DeMar Hamlin. We'll see. I guess I'll use
- 59:55Speaker 1: that as a way to transition to safety. I don't
- 59:57Speaker 1: think too many surprises here. They want and Bishop to
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: be the guys. I think it makes sense for them
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: to be the guys. Hamlin has Hamlin, Oh yeah, Hamlin.
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: I was gonna say handler, that's kJ Hamler. He got cut.
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: Hamlin has not looked good this preseason against it as
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: a tackler and coverage. Just a lot of not good
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: stuff coming from DeMar Hamlin. But they like him, and
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: he's responsible and he's reliable at the safety position, so
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: we'll see. I know a lot of folks don't feel
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: great about Hamlin and have soured on him and are
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: frustrated with the safety position. I have waxed far too
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: poetically on this safety group throughout the offseason and my
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: concerns on the fit between Bishop and Rap and my
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: trepidation about bishops fit in this defense and where I
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: thought he would fit better. So I don't want to
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: go on again about something I've talked about too much
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: at that spot. But I'm hopeful for safety, but I'm
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: concerned about it. I'm concerned. I think Hamlin is a
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: fine depth safety and a safety three or a safety four,
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: a guy who can fit in and be a band aid.
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: I would like to see Cam Lewis as safety three
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: ahead of Hamlin on the depth chart. I like Jordan
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: Hancock a lot. I don't think he's ready to see
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: real NFL reps. He is still processing the game inefficiently
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: at this point in terms of reading run to pass,
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: understanding where he has to be. I like his athleticism.
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: I like his physicality. He just needs more time on task.
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: I don't think that's a bad thing. He's a rookie.
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: I think there's a chance Jordan Hancock could be a
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: safety of the future and it could be him and
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: Cole Bishop next year starting potentially. I think that's a
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: fun thing. I think it's cool that Hancock made the
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: fifty three this year. He's probably gonna see some good
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: teams work. He'll be able to learn in that room
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: from Taylor Rap every week and even from Hamlin a
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: little bit. But Rap is really smart, stands this defense.
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: I think this will be a good learning year or
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: a red shirt ear for Jordan Hancock, and we might see,
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: you know, some potential for him next year. But the
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: starters are gonna be Rap and are gonna be Bishop
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: and ooh, spicy take from Lauren, and Lauren says, I'm
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: putting money on Poyer being on our team at some
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: point this season, based solely on Bean's affinity for signing
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: previous players. You know what, I don't think that's the
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: craziest idea. I think there's a non zero chance, But
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: in all like a sincere one, I don't think that's
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: completely crazy. I don't think he has a lot left
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: in the tank, but I don't think that's crazy. Given
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: Bean's affinity for signing previous players, I don't think that's crazy.
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: Fair point. Yeah, and this is a fair comment from
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: Austin about Hamlin. Seems like Hamlin doesn't make big mistakes,
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: but he's such a low ceiling player. That's exactly it.
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: He's a high floor, low ceiling, not a lot of athleticism,
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: doesn't play with a lot of anticipation and coverage. Isn't
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: really clicking and closing on the ball in space. He's
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: not making plays on the ball. He's more of a
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: down safety. You can blitz him, he'll play the run.
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: He's normally a sure tackler. But that athletics is a
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: man that it limits him. You know, he doesn't have
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: a lot of foot speed, doesn't have a lot of
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: juice burst long speed. You put a move on him
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: and get him to stop his feet and he's in trouble.
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: But again fine for a depth guy. He's responsible and
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: reliable in a lot of respects, which again, you're not
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: gonna have four studs at one position with two backups
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: who are studs. And two starters that are studs. I
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: think he's good enough to get the job done as
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: a depth safety and as a band aid, but I
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: would prefer him not to start. If Bishop or rap
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: go down. I want Cam Lewis as Safety three. I
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: want him as the next man up. We'll see if
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: that comes to fruition or if safety three really is
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: DeMar Hamlin. Again, the depth chart is going to be
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: wonky because Cam is the backup Nickel. So even if
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: they list Cam as a safety, you know he's still
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: going to be the backup Nickel. And if they list
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: him as the backup Nickel, I hope he's still Safety three.
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: But a good group, you've got some versatility. We'll see
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: what happens when Harriston comes back from injury, who gets bounced,
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: if anyone, or do they cut a rob from another
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: group here? But very interesting. Mark says, I would prefer
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: Poyer over Hamlet as a depth option. I I didn't
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: watch enough of Poyer last year to make a hard
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: comment on this. I didn't watch a lot of Dolphins
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: defense tape. One of the few teams who had a
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: unit that I didn't really watch a ton other than
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: scouting them. For the Bills games. But that's fair. But
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: also I don't know, Carl says ant, what are your
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: thoughts on whether the d line will be able to
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: consistently get into the backfield to harass the QB and
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: to take the pressure off the corners in safeties. I
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: feel good to a degree. I think the proof needs
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: to be in the pudding and we need to see.
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: We need to see what happens come regular season time.
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: But I think they upgraded the pass rush aspect of
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: the defensive line. My bigger concern is being able to
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: stop the run and fit the run from the interior.
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: I'm worried about the interior defensive line and the spine
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: by extension of holding up against the run and not
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: getting blown off the ball or displaced. But Sanders has
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: been really encouraging. Walker's been really encouraging. That's just automatically
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: better on the interior what they had last year. I
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: think Bosa is going to be more effective than von
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: I know Von Miller's advanced metrics and stats looked really good.
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: His pass rush productivity, I think it was I think
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: when you watch the tape it wasn't necessarily the case,
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: but I think Bosa can give you more than von did.
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: We'll see what happens with Jackson and Solomon. I'm hopeful.
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: I do think there are still questions about the pass
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: rush capability for the defensive line as a whole, and
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: I'm not completely confident and satisfied at this point, but
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: I'm hopeful, especially from the interior. Argie says, if Cole
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: Bishop is somehow not a bust, that's decent safety depth.
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: Hamlin should still have had five turnos last year, including
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: the playoffs. Three taken away from a fish, that's a
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: solid safety three. Yeah, well that's pretty rational. Take from you,
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: r jam surprized. Look at you. I feel like you're
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: growing up so fast. Yeah, Hamlin, I think is a
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: fine safety three. Again, I don't mean this disrespectfully. I
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: think he's a fine band aid and he's a fine
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: death player. I don't want him to be a starter.
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: If he's your starter, it should be because one of
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: your actual starters got hurt. But he's fine as a
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: deaf guy. He's fine as a band aid. I still
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: would prefer cam Lewis over him. If Rapper Bishop get hurt,
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: I would prefer cam Lewis to step in its safety
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: over Hamlin. We'll see, we will see. But yeah, that's linebackers,
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: that's defensive backs overall CBS safeties. We'll see what happens
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: when Harston. With Harston, I should say, when he comes back,
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: take a look at the specialists here. I don't think
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: this is anything crazy. I'm also going to keep going
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: and go through to the specialist, to the injured and reserved.
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: So Tyler Bass, Brad Robbins, Reid Ferguson. I didn't even
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: put this as a banner on the bottom, no disrespect.
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: They just thought that was pretty cut and dry. It
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: was really just his bass hurt or not. So we
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: got bass, we have Robins, we have Red Ferguson, nothing crazy,
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: injured reserve. It's listened for you right here, Maxwell Hairston
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: and Tyland Grabl. We talked about Grable earlier. I think
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: when Grabel comes back again, all things being equal, and
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: nothing happens to the top nine. As of right now,
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: I think Grabel comes back, Chase Lunt gets moved Hairston
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: again as a note booth there. Hairston Grabel are designated
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: as eligible to return and are eligible to be activated.
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: Week five. We'll see if that happens or how that happens.
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: We'll see how Harston progresses. I do think it's very
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: realistic that he's ready and active by week five, and
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: then if that's the case, we'll see if one of
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: the corners get bounced or if someone else gets bounced
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: for Hairston's return, and then what we also have their
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: reserve or suspended Michael Hoyt, Larry Ogunjobi. As noted at
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: the bottom there of the page, Hoyt and Ogan Jobe
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: are eligible to return week eight at Carolina. That is
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: because they're suspended for the first six games. Week seven,
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: they have a bye week, so they're eligible to come
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: back in week seven, But the Bills don't play a
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: game that week, so it'll be first six weeks they're suspended,
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: and then they can get right back at it start practicing.
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: Week seven there's no game, so week eight is the
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: first opportunity they can come back, which is at carorow
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: Lina laid out right there again now for those who
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: don't know, in order to activate any of those four,
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: in order to activate Hairston, Grable, hoy or Ogan job
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: doesn't matter if they're injured or suspended. To activate any
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: of those guys to the fifty three man roster. Somebody
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: has to be moved. They have to be released, they
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: have to be traded, they have to be waived. Somebody
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: has to leave the fifty three for one of those
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: guys to come to the fifty three. That's why we
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: talked about it a bit earlier. We'll see again who
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: gets moved, what gamesmanship happens. Again, There's still could be
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: some stuff that shakes down. Now. We could see some
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: announcements later tonight or tomorrow or throughout the week that
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: someone gets put on the pup or someone gets put
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: on this somebody could get hurt week one, two, three, four, five, six,
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: anything like that, and it makes it easy just to
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: add them and drop a practice squad guy who got
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: called up for a week. So there's a lot of
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: movement in shaking that could potentially still happen. But keep
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: that in mind again, for any one of these four
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: to come to the fifty three, someone currently on the
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: fifty three has to go bye bye, and let's see
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: anything else. Man, Paige, Nope, all right, some goonna stop
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: the screen share there. We're still gonna keep talking here
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: on this episode. Oh No, I don't have the banner
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: on the top. That's annoying there.
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: It is.
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: Let's bring up practice squad priorities. I want to go
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: back to I think I started. Yeah, bills are electric.
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: He put a long practice squad hopeful list together earlier.
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: He said, my practice squad hopeful is Frank or Junior,
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: Stephen Gosnell, Keyanta Jenkins, Jimmy Charlow, kJ Hamler, Zion Loge
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: to Corey Couch, Jane Bouchelle, Jordan Phillips, Christian Wilkerson, Dane Jackson,
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: and then a lot to the tight end. I echo
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: a lot of these. Give me priority. To Gore. I
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: thought Gosnell had some positive things that he did. I
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: liked Keanta Jenkins. He moved well, he flashed, he had
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: some juice to him and some finishing ability. I'm cool
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: with Charlotte coming back. I'm really cool with all these
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: guys that would make us up a significant chunk of
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: my list of hopefuls. I'm also I like to Corey Kouch,
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: he went to the U and I thought he showed
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: some things. Jordan Phillips, I guess we'll talk about it
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: a bit. He's gonna be on the practice squad. We'll
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: see if he matters at any point during the season.
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: I hope he doesn't. I know he had that awesome
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: sack against the Chiefs. I don't think he really has
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: much left to offer, but culture fit. He's always performed
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: better with the Bills. I get it. I understand that.
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: I don't think it's crazier the end of the world
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: that he got added to the practice squad, But I
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: still don't like it. But we'll see. I think that's
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: a very fine list there. Yeah. I oh, good call
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: here from Timbo saying Campton Jenkins called my I. Ram
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: bamsays agree with that potential practice squad list. Oh Thomas saying,
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: I hope they bring Zie Alexander back for the practice squad. Yeah,
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: rookie corner from LSU they brought in for this last week. Jason,
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: you're a fan of the Jordan Phillips move, saying even
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: if he doesn't, I think having Jordan Phillips as a
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: backup is awesome. That's fair. I am not, but to
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: each their own. And Austin says, got to get the
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: hard Knocks all stars on there, Charlowe and Hamlin. Yeah, well,
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: I forgot that hard knocks is tonight could call. Yeah,
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: I hope Charlo comes back. I really Oh, I don't
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: know who my biggest practice squad priority guy would be.
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: I really like Frank or I just don't know if
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: he's gonna be able to crack the roster this year
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: or next year. But I like Frank Gore a lot.
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: But that practice squad list, I thought from Bill's our
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: electric was really super solid. And I think a lot
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: of the guys that the Bills cut they would like
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: to bring back, or the guys that they waved, even
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: somebody like last year day Kwon Hardy got cut was
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: unfortunately he got waved. He came back to the practice squad.
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: I think it would be nice to see, you know,
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: several of those guys come back. And I thought, Bills
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: are electric. Your list was really solid. So that's why
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: I started and wanted to note that Carl says which
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: player will be most excited to see if we're able
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: to get him back on the practice squad Wide receiver
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: Christian Wilkerson or Jimmy Charlow. You know what, I like
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: Wilkerson and some of the things that he did at
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: wide receiver, like actual offensive snaps, I'm gonna say Charlo
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: just because I think Charlo's path to making an impact
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: on the team is easier than Wilkerson's. Like Wilkerson has
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: to pop a significant amount of hurdles and players to
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: contribute meetingfully on offense. He could contribute on special teams,
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: But I think Charlo is the better special teamer, and
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: I think him being able to contribute on special teams
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: is more likely than Wilkerson contributing on special teams or
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: contributing on offense. So between those two, I would say
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: Jimmy Charlow. Plus like the way his name sounds. He
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: sounds like a mob assassin, like, oh we got to
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: you know, whax, some guy in midtown call up Jimmy Charlote.
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: It just sounds good, sounds good, sounds good. Uh what else?
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: Ginger says, don't we need a safety on the practice squad? Yeah?
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: Could be Derek Forrest, could be someone else. I think,
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: you know, maybe maybe it's Jordan poy Uh could be
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: Derek Forrest. Ginger. I think you also asked earlier. I
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: meant to start and I didn't. I think you asked
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: me about what happened with Forrest. I think it was you.
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: If it was somebody else, I apologize, and you're still here,
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: feel free to let me know. Or Ginger, if it
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: was you, because now it's in my brain is driving
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: me nuts. I would like to see Forrest on the
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: practice squad he it was you. Think you? Ginger appreciate
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: you his This is pure speculation by me. He looked
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: heavier and thicker in person and on tape with the
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: Bills than he did with Washington. I don't know if
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: he was playing heavy or if he weighed more, but
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: he just did not look as twitchy and as quick
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: and as rangy as he did with Washington. And I
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: think that was a significant piece for me of why,
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: you know, he didn't look great and potentially why he
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: wasn't playing I don't think it was, you know. Again,
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: it could have been he wasn't grasping the defense, or
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: he was making mental errors. I think it was more
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: of just kind of a movement thing and him not
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: showing it. He looked heavier. I actually was like looking
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: up some of his Washington stuff today and he just
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: looked noticeably trimmer, and he moved much differently than he
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: did here with the Bills. So I don't know if
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: they asked him to bulk up to play more of
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: a different role or that's kind of what he did anyway,
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: But he just didn't look like the same player that
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: he did in Washington. The player I saw in Washington
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: I thought would have been an easy kind of top
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: on this team, not necessarily a starter. I thought he
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: could have competed if things went off the rails a bit,
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: but or even kind of outpace Hamlin. But it's not
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: the case, so we'll see m awesome Lauren. Lauren says,
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: I don't want to run into Jimmy Charlo and Tommy
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: Cutlass and at Dark Alley, you do not sounds like
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: killers from the Sopranos. Absolutely well said, I like that.
- 1:15:18Speaker 2: I like that.
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: Steve says, the best. That's funny, the best. It's funny
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: too because like Tommy Cutlass is a nickname, but Jimmy
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: Charlo is just a real name and makes it even
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: more badass. Steve says, the best two players are the
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: two best players day in and day out at training
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: camp with the Milano and Coleman. They need to be
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: featured on Hard Knocks tonight. I need a Milano interview
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: bad I think that's fair. I think that's fair. You
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: know what I need bad. The best pizza in Buffalo.
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: One Pi Pizza the best pizza in Buffalo, New York.
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: I don't say that because they sponsor the show. They
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: sponsor the show because they are the best pizza in Buffalo,
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: New York. I mean that wholeheartedly. I say it with
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: my heart and all of my chest. Cup and char pepperoni,
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: piz sauce pie, homemade blue cheese, a breakfast pizza option
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: that's delicious. They also have a catering division called Elevated
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: Catering of Buffalo. They do all kinds of events. The
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: food is awesome. It's not I mean, you can still
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: get pizza if you want, but they do different kinds
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: of mac and cheeses. They do these great salads. They
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: do this coconut rice and chicken dish that's awesome and
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: out of this world, really great stuff. The online menu
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: for one Pi Pizza and their catering division can be
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: found in the episode showing us whether here on YouTube
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: or whichever podcasting, every platform you're listening to this show on,
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: and they do a ton of good stuff for the community.
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: Like I talked about, all the time partnering with roswelld
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: and Knockout Cancer, the SPCA, the Alzheimer's Foundation, Toys for Tots.
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: They're constantly trying to find ways to give back to
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: the city and the community at large, aside from just
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: giving everyone fantastic food on a regular basis. So yeah,
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: get yourself some one Pi pizza. If you live in Buffalo,
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: get yourself some one Pi pizza. If you're traveling to
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: Buffalo at some point, stop get yourself some one Pie Pizza.
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: It is the best pizza in Buffalo, New York. Again,
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: I don't say that because they sponsor the show. They
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: sponsored the show because I think they are the best pizza.
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: And for those who don't know, I had actually reached
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: out to a different pizza spot to sponsor the show.
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: One Pie heard It reached out to me. I had
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: never heard of One Pie. They offered me a free
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: pizza to kind of see if I like their stuff.
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: I tasted it and I have never gone back. True story,
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: that's not this relationship developed. Get yourself some one Pie Pizza.
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: I read this comment from Thomas and saw you said
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: Zah Frasier for the Practice Squad also cut from the Bears.
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: I read this as Zach Frasier, the center for the Steelers,
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: and I got extremely excited out of nowhere, so that
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: now I'm gonna come down. Now I'm on the come down.
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: Phillips says, Oh, who do you think will have a
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: breakout season? Which player in the offense and which in
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: the defense? Oh? Real quick, Austin says, you need a
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: referral code. When you go in, tell them that the
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: sgui's coverage sent you. When you go to one Pie Pizza,
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: tell them Disguise coverage sent. You could also say cover one,
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: but tell them disguy's coverage sent you that I know
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: it's on a referral code. Tell them Disguy's coverage sent you.
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: Phillips says, who do you think will have a breakout season?
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: Which player in the offense of which in the defense.
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: I guess it depends on what you define his breakout. Defensively,
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: I think TJ. Sanders is going to perform well. I
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: think he's gonna struggle against the run a bit, but
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: I think he's gonna have some good pass rushing numbers
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: and I think that will constitute a breakout. Nationally, I
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: think Christian Benford is gonna break out. I think he
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: is very much slept on nationally, as evidence by not
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: even being referenced on the top cornerbacks list for ESPN,
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: like not even honorable mention, nothing. So Benford is my
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: big answer. I think nationally everybody will know who he is. Offensively,
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: I think Osyrus Torrence potentially in that conversation, and if
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: he stays healthy, I think Dalton Kincaid puts up big
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: pass catching numbers. Either him or Coleman I think has
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: a breakout as a pass catcher. So Torrence, Coleman, and
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: Kate those are kind of my options there. We'll see,
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: we will see, we will see, we will see. Someone
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: else had a comment here. Uh no, I think that's everything.
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: Uh nope. Gingji said, are you concerned about special teams
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: a little bit because they were bad last year? But
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: I have faith in Tabor to course correct and write
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: the ship and get them to where they need to be.
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: I'm gonna throw up the banner that says toodles, folks.
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: I would continue to do this and we could talk
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: forever as we normally do on the show, But as
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: I mentioned earlier, I've got to go and get ready
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: for a call. With some overseas partners. That is happening
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: in about eleven minutes, So I'm gonna go thank you
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: to everyone who tuned in live for this episode. If
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: you have not already, please please, please, and thank you.

- 1:20:02Speaker 1: way towards telling them us the track and trend in
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: front of more eyes and ears, and I hope you
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: folks genuinely enjoyed this episode. If there was anything I
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: didn't get to in this episode, get at me on Twitter.
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: Pro underscore underscore ant that's pro two underscoes A N T.
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: If you're on Blue Sky, that's cool. Get at me

- 1:20:32Speaker 1: are always on. Get at me with that. I hope
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: you enjoyed this episode. I should have another episode of
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: Disguise Coverage dropping Thursday evening or Friday, morning. It's worth
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: a very special guest. So I'm doing an offline episode
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: with that special guest and dropping that probably hopefully Thursday night,
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: potentially Friday afternoon at like noon isher, we'll see, but
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: probably Thursday evening. And then I'm also gonna drop a
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: cold Bishop breakdown, breaking down some tape and some play
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: from him, responsibilities, individual evaluation from his game against the Bears,
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: and then the preseason finale against the Buccaneers. So two
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: more episodes of this guy's coverage coming from me this week,
