- 0:18[SPEAKER_02]: Welcome to Comics' Versus does the DC Universe by the Lower Hounds, your guides to DC's pocket dimensions.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_02]: I'm Alicia the girl who's hiding more in her selfies than you might expect.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_09]: And I'm Jean, the guy, punk enough to hope for a bold new DCU after watching the new Superman, which we are here to break down for you today.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_02]: So we're going to start with our usual spoiler free hot takes, except for this part, we will be talking about, we're going to spoil the text that appears at the very beginning of the movie just because that's the premise of the movie and it's hard to talk about the movie without it.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_02]: And also, there's an opening scene that's been widely distributed online for weeks now, that's the first scene.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_02]: So we'll mention both those things, but other than that, we will keep all spoilers in the bag until after a spoiler break.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_02]: And of course, we're putting spoilers for all DC movies, TV, comics, all in the table.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_02]: We might discuss any of that telling you how it all ties together.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_02]: So to set up that opening text, I don't, I'm not going to, I didn't write it out word for word, but just do you hear phrase?
- 1:28[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_02]: To paraphrase basically, you'll see the whole thing when you go to the movie if you haven't yet, but it says 300 years ago, earth first, the first metahumins appeared on earth.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_02]: 30 years ago, Superman arrived on Earth.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_02]: Three years ago, he revealed himself.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_02]: Three weeks ago, he stopped one country from invading another.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_02]: Three hours ago, he was attacked in Metropolis by a new meta-human called the Hammer of Barovia.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_02]: Three minutes ago, Superman lost a battle for the very first time.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_02]: So, and then this is immediately followed by that scene that's been going around about of super man being defeated in the snow and calling for crypto's help.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_02]: So, with that, as the only spoiler we won't talk beyond that, but just in general, John, what did you think about the movie overall?
- 2:19[SPEAKER_02]: This set up where it went from there.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_09]: I was shocked that they went off the movie with this scene because I was in my mind that this happened some at some time later in the movie, so to just start off the movie with that scene, Superman being humbled in that way and leading and unable to breathe.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_09]: just with a really great tone setter as well as the text that said that meta humans have been known on Earth for the last 300 years.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_09]: I think this is a big, big deal for the future of the DCU and the reason why we're not going to get many if any origin stories, right?
- 3:04[SPEAKER_09]: Because gun apparently they're
- 3:08[SPEAKER_09]: the human stuff, the comic book stuff, the superhero super villain stuff because they are looking at the world that they're building, that they're creating, that they're creating, that knows about all of this stuff and they're assuming that the audience who's been privileged enough to have these comic book movies for the last three decades,
- 3:32[SPEAKER_09]: really knows comic book movies right like we know what to expect like these are not new concepts and we're not thinking oh my gosh how fantastical this is improbable this can't happen the audience is primed for a universe where we expect these things to exist and I was so blown away that they actually put that out there in that way no surprises
- 4:01[SPEAKER_02]: question, so I, some people have complained that, you know, every generation needs their new onboarding, you know, you are the father of, of, is he still?
- 4:12[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, maybe my, my, he will be my, and a couple of weeks, yeah.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_02]: Do you think that he needs a new introduction to the story or do you say, I'll just show him this film or animated series or whatever?
- 4:29[SPEAKER_09]: No, he doesn't need an onboarding.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_09]: Maybe it's because the product of being around me.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_09]: Right.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_09]: And constantly expose to these concepts and these characters and these themes.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_09]: But he can go into the theater fully versed.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_09]: and not needing to understand how is this possible, right?
- 4:57[SPEAKER_09]: There may be things that he'll ask questions about, and I'll try to answer them to the best that I can, but overall the introduction to characters, I don't think he will be needing that, I really don't.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_09]: He's playing the games, reading comics,
- 5:19[SPEAKER_09]: fantastical superheroes, this world that exists then, he may not know all the characters, but the question of how characters, why they exist, I don't think he'll ask that.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_02]: Right, okay, yeah, I mean I guess that's also that's a fair point to make the fact that just the story of Superman is so
- 5:45[SPEAKER_02]: pervasive throughout society.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_02]: That's why it's because it's what he's a parody.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_02]: So many times.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_02]: And it's just referenced constantly that there is a sort of expectation that you just absorb it as part of growing up.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_09]: Like he, I got asked a question by E, the other day with, and he said, is Hyperion a Superman of the Marvel?
- 6:11[SPEAKER_06]: Mm-hmm.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_09]: Right, Hyperion is a,
- 6:14[SPEAKER_09]: is a superman, it's a superman of the moment.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_02]: Right, right, definitely.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_02]: Along with century, yeah.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_09]: Right.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_09]: And I said, yeah, you know, so these are concepts and things that they're out there.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_09]: And if kids are engaging with the content, then for the most part, I don't think they need a primer.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_09]: You know, they don't need a movie to tell you that Colelle was sent on a rocket ship to, you know, earth, yada, yada, yada, yada, they don't need a movie to know that Bruce Wayne lost his parents in an alley, right?
- 6:54[SPEAKER_09]: Right.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_09]: They know these sorts of things because these sorts of things have been floating around
- 7:06[SPEAKER_09]: It's been grained in our popular culture now.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_03]: Right, right, right.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I thought that for me, you know, you are going in a much bigger Superman fan than I am.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_02]: Not that, like, I'm not anti at all.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_02]: It's just, you know, we all have our favorites and Superman's one of yours, right?
- 7:26[SPEAKER_09]: Yes, absolutely.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_02]: Um, I know you and your son have that ongoing argument over whether the Avengers takes it and down.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_09]: Oh, he's figuring out ways to take Superman down.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_09]: He's like, I don't know if I'm, you know, this is a Lex Lutheric thing.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_09]: Now, no, no, there's a super villain lurking.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_09]: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_02]: The Marvel kid is a Marvel kid.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_02]: But so Superman for me, I always like Lois Lane though I identify with her because she feels like a stand-in for me in this world because of my background in journalism and little random details like the fact that she struggles to remember how many Ells and R's are in a word too.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, this for me was I think my favorite new Superman take because I think it just it combined well.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_02]: It felt like, you know, I've been especially catching up on a lot of Superman or, you know, revisiting the old movies, watching, finally some smallville, and some Justice League,
- 8:41[SPEAKER_02]: And I see all of those in this, you know, pieces of all that, I see pieces of the Snyder verse in this, I think that this is a meta-superman in a way, but in a way that feels focused for our era right now.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_09]: Hi, I agree.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_09]: I think I'm, I told one of my homies this morning, like,
- 9:07[SPEAKER_09]: watching the movie make me made me forget about Kavill and if anyone knows anything Kavill is my guide.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_09]: That's my superman, right?
- 9:18[SPEAKER_06]: That's my guide.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_09]: But watching the movie made me forget about Kavill.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_09]: At no point did I I never compared the two never got I never felt like oh Kavill would have done this so much better.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_09]: I never felt that.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_02]: I like to caval as a casting.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't like the material that he was given personally.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_02]: I know you feel differently.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah.
- 9:43[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, I never nothing ever wrong with that casting nothing.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_02]: I actually can't think of a bad superman casting off of the top of my head I'm sure somebody's getting something at me.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I just like him for different reasons now But at the time in the 90s.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_02]: I love the dean Kane.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't like in the 90s.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_09]: I didn't like the show at all.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_09]: Oh Okay, I was a show not in like show
- 10:09[SPEAKER_02]: Um, but I understand why it's not yet.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_02]: It's, it's not as great as the other shows that are.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, like the show at the same moment.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_02]: You know what I mean?
- 10:21[SPEAKER_02]: I know I know.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and for me, it's like, well, it has an age so well has it.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_02]: Um, but yeah, I, but I just think that still David Coran's sweat is somehow the embodies it the most and I think they've also been doing smart things with the marketing, um, where
- 10:43[SPEAKER_02]: they show him with kids, you know, and how he interacts well with kids and how they, and sometimes I even wonder if they're kind of like playing a little bit where there's, there's, there was him and Rachel brought in a hand also extremely perfect casting somehow even more like the most perfect lowest lane that I've ever seen.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_02]: and they had them like on, I forget one of like variety or something, one of those short videos playing a game where they're supposed to ask each other cheesy pick-up lines and they were given a list of cheesy pick-up lines and he keeps misunderstanding the game in the most, the most Clark Kent kind of wholesome way and I'm like, I don't know if this is put on or not, but it's perfect.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_02]: They just really nailed it.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe this is a good time to say we got, we got a mail from Ken W, who said, and this was sent quite a while ago, said, this is him before the film released.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_02]: Hope you don't mind the email on nights and need to get this off my chest.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_02]: Superman has always been my favorite, but is gun over saturating us with promotions.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_02]: Did you feel the film was over-promoted?
- 11:57[SPEAKER_09]: anything that came out like a month before the film.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_09]: I think I even told you I'm not watching any TV spots.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_09]: I didn't watch anything.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_09]: I didn't feel it was overpromoted for me personally.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_09]: I just felt like I didn't want to see anything.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_09]: But I can understand that sentiment definitely.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_09]: Because there was a lot of...
- 12:21[SPEAKER_09]: proper film promotion for this movie, right?
- 12:26[SPEAKER_09]: And I think that's, I don't think that's a bad thing.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_02]: No, no, I think it's a, I mean, it feels like there's like two promotion modes these days.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_02]: It's either over saturation, which, you know, this is getting like fantastic boards, getting drastic park, you know, the big ones.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_02]: And, or they just ignore everything else, basically.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_09]: It feels like a old school rollout.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_09]: That's what it's something like to me.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_09]: You know, we don't do these sorts of things and need longer.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_09]: You know, we don't get like sidebar, you know, clips wrap group that I adore.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_09]: It's just dropped a new album and they did proper rollout, like old school rollout of an album.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_09]: You know what I mean?
- 13:11[SPEAKER_09]: Talking to a lot of different people, letting people hear different songs,
- 13:15[SPEAKER_09]: And I think that we're getting to a point where we have so truncated or, you know, the space for content.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_09]: Like it has to be short, it has to be brief, has to be snappy in order to garner attention.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_09]: And I think this was different and that it was a long rollout.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_09]: It gave you a lot of sound bias.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_09]: They gave you a lot of reviews.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_09]: They gave you a lot of visuals to get you
- 13:44[SPEAKER_09]: hoping that that will spur you to see the movie and I and I welcome that because I hate being limited in scope and in time for the things that we all enjoy.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_09]: You know what I mean?
- 13:58[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and I just want to say as Ken W. did pop into the discord to say that he really enjoyed it when he did see it old school superhero movie.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_02]: Look up.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_02]: So, yeah, but I I feel that that it's this was where you could feel they knew everyone was talking about how important this film was for the DCU.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, yeah, and they thought and it felt
- 14:25[SPEAKER_09]: We'll get into it, but this felt like a new direction, right?
- 14:34[SPEAKER_09]: We really got, I got the sense that, you know, they're going to do things that wasn't done in this night of verse, right?
- 14:44[SPEAKER_09]: And do things differently, like this isn't a, this is a personal
- 14:55[SPEAKER_09]: worldwide destruction, you know, the end of it in a way in a little way.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_09]: But to me, the threat was more about Calel, Superman, Clark Kent, then it was about our all humanity.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_09]: In a way that dark side would be a threat to all humanity.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_09]: You see what I mean?
- 15:16[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_09]: The movie was not that.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_02]: I think the threat is also more insidious in a more realistic, more realistic, like more Yeah, definitely.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_02]: Where it's about the decay of humanity.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_02]: And then just being snuffed out.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_02]: Um, but but yeah, I think that this, I like that this movie.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_02]: It is, it's so bright and I call it Hope Punk.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_02]: But it's a real genre, but it's about, it's also has a darkness to it because it is about it's about the humanity of Superman, you know, it's about how it's saying, and this I find this really interesting because when I,
- 15:59[SPEAKER_02]: One of the reasons why Superman isn't per se my favorite character is because sometimes he feels too perfect.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_02]: But this is about Superman, nobody's perfect.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_02]: This is just someone who is super because he's always trying to do the right thing.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_02]: Even if he might need to take a beat and think more about the complications of a given situation.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_09]: Caldero that Superman is perfect.
- 16:32[SPEAKER_09]: I've never felt that.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_09]: You know, I've never felt that.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_09]: I've always felt him the character being decidedly.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_09]: How should I put it?
- 16:45[SPEAKER_09]: Not vague, but there are times when you feel what I feel that Superman could be doing more.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_09]: And there is a lack of action on Superman's part, on Kyle Ells part, right?
- 17:03[SPEAKER_09]: So I've never really viewed him as the perfect embodiment because I've always thought that he could be doing a lot more for people all over the world.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_09]: And I think some of the comics have actually struggled with that question as well.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_09]: What end is moving you know, just moving that's all about that.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_09]: It's all about that, right?
- 17:25[SPEAKER_09]: So I never felt reading Superman that he was a perfect, you know, character
- 17:32[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, why I think about, I just rewatched recently Superman 4 with the much Maline Superman 4.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_02]: It's kind of fun.
- 17:42[SPEAKER_02]: But it does feature.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_02]: It's okay.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_02]: But it does feature where basically a child asks Superman to why don't you just end the threat of nuclear war.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_02]: So Superman gathers up all the nukes and throws them into space.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_02]: and um i feel like james gun watch that movie and he's like okay i have some notes do you think and and what this is really this is where he tries to do something similar where he's like i'll just step in and threaten the bad guy and make the fight stop and and he learns
- 18:18[SPEAKER_02]: No, there's consequences to everything that I do and that's what this is about like the consequences for every everyone's actions throughout the film.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and I just I love the humanity one of my favorite quotes from the film is I love I get scared that is being human that's my greatest strength and that's why I call it hope punk because that's where it's just about
- 18:43[SPEAKER_02]: having the bravery to admit your flaws, having the bravery to be yourself and do your best when things get tough.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_09]: I think that's actually, I think that is what Superman has embodied like that
- 19:14[SPEAKER_09]: that that scene that an entire scene was really uh was a powerful scene for me.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, um, and also, I mean, it was right in a couple years ago, but some of it did feel very on the nose for real world conflict today.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_02]: We're saying that a lot lately, and I think some of it's intentional and some of it's not intentional.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_09]: Um, I don't, I don't know.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_09]: I, I, I watched the movie and I, I really didn't
- 19:44[SPEAKER_09]: I understand the connection that folks made but in watching the movie I wasn't making those connections.
- 19:49[SPEAKER_09]: Okay.
- 19:49[SPEAKER_09]: To be honest.
- 19:52[SPEAKER_02]: Um, yeah, no.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_02]: So it felt very, very, uh, on the nose.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, not in a bad way, not in a bad way.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_02]: No, no.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_02]: Definitely.
- 19:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_02]: Um, I, yeah, and also I just loved like I was I know a lot of people were worried when they were announcing all the characters who had a feature in this and people like, oh, that's going to feel overstuffed.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_02]: I did not find that it felt overstuffed and I really got invested in the characters like we got we got introduced to the personalities of the bee characters rather than their origin stories.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_02]: But I think that's okay.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_02]: Now I'm intrigued.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, tell me more about Mr.
- 20:27[SPEAKER_02]: Terrific and Menomorfo and Hawke girl and Guy Gardner.
- 20:31[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, that's great.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_09]: They were fully fleshed out to me without the word in stories.
- 20:38[SPEAKER_09]: Like, I know who these people are.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_09]: I thought I knew who they were.
- 20:44[SPEAKER_09]: You know, so it's just like, I mean, Mr.
- 20:47[SPEAKER_09]: Terrific, man.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_09]: We'll talk about that.
- 20:50[SPEAKER_02]: Why I'm curious what is your was your feelings about these characters?
- 20:54[SPEAKER_02]: Like how familiar were you with the this set of characters going in and any favorites?
- 20:59[SPEAKER_09]: Oh yeah, no, no, I know I know all of them.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_09]: Mr.
- 21:02[SPEAKER_09]: Terrific is my favorite out of the bunch.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_09]: I think from the comic books period, so yeah familiar with all of the characters and but I've always had a source part, a soft spot for Terrific.
- 21:15[SPEAKER_09]: but he actually is one of my favorite comic book characters.
- 21:19[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, I mean, I didn't, I'll be honest.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_02]: I knew, I mean, I knew Guy Gardner is a Green Lantern and Hawk Girl.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_02]: Those, I knew those two.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_02]: I did not know before this, Mr.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_02]: Terrific or Madam Morpho.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_02]: Oh wow.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_02]: So said before, I know more Marvel than DC characters.
- 21:35[SPEAKER_02]: Um, and so I really especially, you know, I mean, I guess those are two of my favorites, but it's also, I've to say, Madam Morphos played by Anthony Carrigan, who I just love since Barry, where he played now, Frank.
- 21:50[SPEAKER_02]: I was gonna love him no matter what.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_02]: But Mr.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_02]: Terrific, I feel like in a lot of ways he stole the movie.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_09]: I absolutely feel like he did.
- 21:58[SPEAKER_09]: Absolutely, and I couldn't have been more happier than that.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_09]: Like, give me a terrific movie or TV show, please.
- 22:06[SPEAKER_02]: Apparently there's one in discussion, perhaps.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, wow.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_09]: I didn't hear about that.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_02]: That's awesome.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_02]: And there's two, there's rumors of two new TV shows and discussion for terrific and the other for Jimmy Olsen, who actually gets his own plot light.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_09]: I could get behind that, too.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_09]: I can get Jimmy was great.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_09]: I love Jimmy.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_02]: This is not my second favorite Jimi Olsen after my adventure so soon.
- 22:30[SPEAKER_09]: The matches were Superman.
- 22:33[SPEAKER_02]: I like that animated series, okay?
- 22:37[SPEAKER_02]: But no, that's a really fleshed old Jimi Olsen.
- 22:40[SPEAKER_02]: And this one, you know, we only got a couple of hours, but he was, yeah, he was fun.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_02]: Definitely show me more.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_02]: Would you think of crypto?
- 22:50[SPEAKER_09]: Great.
- 22:51[SPEAKER_09]: Just awesome.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_09]: Awesome.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_09]: I love the dynamic of the dog.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_09]: just being a dog.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, very good.
- 22:59[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, it's really great.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_09]: And also, well, that's what we'll talk about it, but I just love the stuff of Superman and crypto.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, well done.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I mean, I think first film in the DCU, I guess you and I would both say it's a success.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_09]: Yes.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_02]: This is a heralding, an interesting new era.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's a second official project.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_02]: We already talked about creature commendo's in a prior episode if anyone hasn't heard that yet.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_02]: And this is this first phase is called chapter one, gods and monsters.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_02]: So we've gotten creature commendo's for the monster side.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_02]: And now we're getting the side of the gods.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_02]: And also in the new DCU kind of is this
- 23:52[SPEAKER_02]: uh, blue beetle and peacemaker season one, which I think it sounds like and it looks like from the trailer.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to find out more about how the DC EU universe connects with the DC EU when that shows.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_02]: It comes in August, which we're going to be covering.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, we are.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_02]: Yay.
- 24:13[UNKNOWN]: Yay.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, when it comes to writer director James Gunn, I'm a much bigger fan than you are, but I think you like, you, he won't be recently.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_09]: I mean, I mean, I, you know, I'm humble enough to say, I was not familiar with Mr. Gunn's comic book awareness, just based off the Guardians movie and,
- 24:41[SPEAKER_09]: suicide squad but i have to say i have to respect the hustle i mean gun did he did the thing and it's like at every turn from creature commandos to the interviews there was always something knowing at me say ah this guy this guy this guy this guy this guy
- 25:02[SPEAKER_09]: I sat in the movie and after it was done, I'm like, ah, this guy, you know, like he really did the thing.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_09]: He really did the thing.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_09]: And I have to say that on, I am,
- 25:17[SPEAKER_09]: pleasantly and excitedly waiting the rest of the DCU, because this first, and this, I'm not counting creature commandos.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_09]: I'm sorry.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_09]: I'm not counting that.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_09]: This is the proper introduction to the DC universe for me.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_09]: And I just think that he did a really
- 25:47[SPEAKER_09]: And it wasn't done overtly here, look at this way, but it just, it's a tone setter, and I'm here for it.
- 25:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I like to create your commandos a lot more than you, although I'm upset about how one particular character was handled talked about that.
- 26:09[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but I like that this is a very different feeling from that, you know, that this is a different much lighter and pure and.
- 26:21[SPEAKER_02]: I like the idea, you know, looking at these projects that are coming up from lanterns to clay phase to hopefully swamping and the authority and all this stuff.
- 26:33[SPEAKER_02]: I'm looking for and super girl, of course, I'm looking forward to a range of different genres with the D.C.
- 26:43[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, so we debated whether or not to bring this up, but I just thought like let's let's you said, you know, let's mention it quickly and we don't want to give people too much airspace and let's just make sure that we are directly quoting
- 26:59[SPEAKER_02]: James Gunn.
- 27:01[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, yes, but he said something that some people are upset about and here's exactly what he said He said superman is the story of America and he said an immigrant He said he called him in immigrant.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_02]: They came from other places and populated the country But for me, it's mostly a story that says basic human kindness is a value and it's something we have lost
- 27:23[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, I agree with them and for the people who wrote things that were, you know, inflammatory and trying to degrade the film.
- 27:34[SPEAKER_09]: After watching the film, I can say they they didn't watch the film.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_09]: They didn't watch the film.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I mean, if Superman's not about kindness, what are we doing here?
- 27:45[SPEAKER_09]: Right, right, right, but that's not the point that they took.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_09]: Of course, but the film is not about immigration.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_02]: He's an illegal alien.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the film's not about immigration.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_02]: No, it is about getting involved in international affairs.
- 28:01[SPEAKER_09]: Yes, yes, but it's not a migration.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_02]: No.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_09]: And it will, it is about it.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_02]: It is about being an immigrant in the fact that he is painted as an outsider, and we'll talk about it.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_09]: We'll talk about it, but just as for me, as a broader stroke, like those folks did not watch this movie, it's outraged that is, it's outraged, that is, you know, you know, you're
- 28:31[SPEAKER_09]: You know, meant to go on their clicks and approval from a certain segment and yeah, I don't fuck with that segment.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_09]: So yeah, we don't fuck with that segment.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_02]: So it's all right.
- 28:44[SPEAKER_02]: Moving on.
- 28:45[SPEAKER_02]: What do you think about the new suit?
- 28:47[SPEAKER_09]: I was cool with it.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_09]: I was cool with it.
- 28:49[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, I'm cool with it.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_09]: There are so many variations of costumes and comic books, you know.
- 28:56[SPEAKER_09]: different, you know, artists draw people differently for different times and I'm cool with it.
- 29:04[SPEAKER_09]: I never had an issue with the trunks or non-trunks or whatever.
- 29:08[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 29:09[SPEAKER_02]: I like that they made them, they modernized it by making them more boxer rather than, yeah, rather than on DMVs, yeah.
- 29:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think and apparently that, you know, the idea of having Superman dress that way was to make him look more approachable for children and that's what James gun cited as the reason for that.
- 29:33[SPEAKER_02]: So, yeah, I'm on board.
- 29:36[SPEAKER_02]: I think that was great.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_06]: I thought it looked
- 29:40[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I had no overall, I have to say the overall look was great, and that's especially thanks to cinematographer Henry Brahm, who often works with James Gun on my Guardians of the Galaxy and the Suicide Squad.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_02]: There's one I saw side by side shots of, uh, uh,
- 29:59[SPEAKER_02]: Adam from Guardians of the Galaxy 3 flying and superman flying and they made one key difference, which is they animated superman's hair, so it's blowing in the way it makes all the difference.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_02]: It feels the flight really worked for me.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_02]: What about you?
- 30:15[SPEAKER_02]: Not, there's nothing for me to complain about.
- 30:29[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 30:29[SPEAKER_02]: I thought that I liked the music.
- 30:32[SPEAKER_02]: The composer was John Murphy with also some songs by David Fleming and John Murphy.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_02]: We were just talking about because John Murphy did the scores for the first to the original to 28 movies.
- 30:44[SPEAKER_02]: 28 days and 28 weeks later.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_09]: Good stuff.
- 30:47[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 30:49[SPEAKER_09]: But I'll say one complaint and this is not just for Superman.
- 30:54[SPEAKER_09]: But this is just for it.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_09]: comic book movies as a whole.
- 30:59[SPEAKER_09]: We need more rap music to these scores because quite honestly that's the music of now.
- 31:07[SPEAKER_09]: So we need to get on board with, you know, seeding these music, these soundtracks with some more rap.
- 31:15[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, and that's my, that's, that's my hot tape.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_02]: Now that's, that's fair.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, we've talked about this before too.
- 31:22[SPEAKER_02]: But James Gunn and I have the same music taste.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm always going to be happier with his soundtrack.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_09]: And the music was good.
- 31:28[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, but that's good, but that's be real.
- 31:33[SPEAKER_09]: Let's, let's get some rap.
- 31:35[SPEAKER_09]: Let's get something off on these soundtracks.
- 31:38[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and then actually, you know, James Gunn has a punk musician past.
- 31:44[SPEAKER_02]: And so he made references to it in there.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_02]: Like when Superman is talking about these fake bands, like the mighty craft joys.
- 31:55[SPEAKER_02]: Also he said the PODs and James Gunn has an old band called The Pods.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_02]: I've just said the song that plays, I guess over the credits, punk rocker by Teddy Bear's featuring Eddie Ikke.
- 32:10[SPEAKER_02]: I've added that to my favorite list.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_02]: I've been listening to that one.
- 32:15[SPEAKER_02]: But I like the whole, the discussion of punk in there.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I talked about the whole punk, it's the opposite of grim dark, basically.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_02]: It's about characters fighting for positive change and radical kindness and
- 32:27[SPEAKER_02]: working together to overcome challenges, and the discussion here is, you know, Lois says, you think everyone you meet is beautiful, and he says, maybe that's the real punk rock, because basically she's like, you're not as punk as me punk.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_06]: Right, right, right, right.
- 32:45[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I like the song.
- 32:46[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the message and the way the music played into that message.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_02]: Have you ever been a Cleveland, Ohio, Ohio?
- 32:54[SPEAKER_09]: Um, um, my better half is from the Cleveland, um, Iran and I say, get it.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_09]: I have never been.
- 33:02[SPEAKER_06]: Okay.
- 33:06[SPEAKER_09]: I'll do it with just leave it there.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_02]: Um, I've never been there.
- 33:11[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I've been to Ohio, my father used to live in Ohio for a while, but they were okay.
- 33:15[SPEAKER_02]: I've never been to Cleveland, but apparently that is where they did most of the filming for this.
- 33:20[SPEAKER_02]: And there was apparently Cleveland did inspire some of the look of the original metropolis in the comic.
- 33:27[SPEAKER_02]: So it's, it's, it's.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it makes sense that they go back there, although Metropolis is set in the DCU in Delaware.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_02]: It's been explicitly stated.
- 33:37[SPEAKER_02]: So Metropolis is in Delaware on one side of the bay, and it's called the Big Apricot.
- 33:45[SPEAKER_02]: And Gotham is in South Jersey on the other side of the same bay, so that they're across the water from each other.
- 33:51[SPEAKER_02]: And there is no New York City in this DCU.
- 33:57[SPEAKER_02]: So I got like, I know that we heard from people from Cleveland who were saying that the city's really celebrating it like they were lighting up the skyline to celebrate superman and stuff so I like to see it.
- 34:11[SPEAKER_02]: What did you think about the length?
- 34:13[SPEAKER_02]: It was 129 minutes long, so just over two hours.
- 34:17[SPEAKER_09]: It didn't feel that way to me at all.
- 34:19[SPEAKER_02]: No, I didn't look at my watch at all.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, not once, yeah.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_02]: What was your theater experience?
- 34:27[SPEAKER_09]: It wasn't filled because I went early in the day and there weren't as much kids as I thought that would be for that time of day seeing that it is summer, but you know the jokes landed when they were supposed to.
- 34:48[SPEAKER_09]: And yeah I don't think I think most people were really
- 34:55[SPEAKER_09]: It didn't seem like anyone was upset.
- 34:58[SPEAKER_09]: Like, just watching, I was waiting for the end credits to flow.
- 35:01[SPEAKER_09]: And you know, you watch people who don't wait and they're playing out or whatever.
- 35:05[SPEAKER_09]: I get stressed where people do that.
- 35:07[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 35:08[SPEAKER_09]: I was in the back, so I'm just watching folks.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_09]: And the expressions were mostly, were all smiles.
- 35:15[SPEAKER_09]: They were all smiles, talking amongst each other and things of that nature.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_09]: So yeah,
- 35:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_02]: I was going to go opening night here, but then I ended up having an animal emergency, so I went the next afternoon instead, and I forgot that it was summer break, so I was surprised that there were a bunch of teenagers there.
- 35:37[SPEAKER_02]: And they responded quite well.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_02]: They actually, they applauded and cheered at the end of the movie.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_09]: Wow, that's great.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 35:45[SPEAKER_02]: So I thought that's a good sign.
- 35:46[SPEAKER_02]: That's a good sign.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_02]: It's doing rather well.
- 35:50[SPEAKER_02]: The budget was 225 million as a reported budget.
- 35:54[SPEAKER_02]: You know, they always say it needs to really make 500 to cover marketing costs and all that.
- 36:00[SPEAKER_02]: The box office as of Sunday morning, July 13th.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_02]: of opening weekend was 123 million.
- 36:09[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, it's probably going to close the weekend around 130 million something like that, which is above the expectations, which were 90 million.
- 36:17[SPEAKER_02]: So this makes it the second biggest opening weekend for Warner Brothers this year, after Minecraft.
- 36:24[SPEAKER_02]: And it's the best standalone Superman movie opening, et cetera, et cetera.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_02]: So it's on track for a good showing, I would say.
- 36:31[SPEAKER_02]: And it's got good reviews.
- 36:33[SPEAKER_02]: It's the cinema score is A- the Rotten Tomatoes Critics scores 82% were positive 93% of a general public on Metacritic.
- 36:47[SPEAKER_02]: It's 68% of critics liked it.
- 36:50[SPEAKER_02]: 7.3 average score from the public and on letterbox, the average score is 4.0, which is quite high.
- 37:02[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so it's getting good reviews, you know?
- 37:06[SPEAKER_02]: What would you say is the baccala rating?
- 37:09[SPEAKER_02]: How young would you take, like what would you say is the age someone needs to be to see this movie?
- 37:16[SPEAKER_09]: I mean, E and my nephew, they're eight and nine soon to be nine, and I think that's fine for them.
- 37:25[SPEAKER_09]: I mean, there's one particular scene that might be hard to have.
- 37:28[SPEAKER_09]: Maybe two, actually.
- 37:29[SPEAKER_09]: That might be, you know, a little hard to handle, but overall, I think eight is fine.
- 37:40[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, okay.
- 37:41[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_02]: And when would you say it's a peculiar rating?
- 37:45[SPEAKER_09]: Oh, wow.
- 37:47[SPEAKER_09]: Maybe a 2.5 to 3.
- 37:49[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you think?
- 37:51[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 37:53[SPEAKER_09]: Because there are two things that are overtly like, oh, shit.
- 37:56[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's true.
- 37:57[SPEAKER_02]: That's true.
- 37:58[SPEAKER_02]: That's true.
- 37:59[SPEAKER_02]: They really, they really go villainous one particular character.
- 38:04[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 38:05[SPEAKER_09]: And so, and that's the only reason that I put it that I like the fight scenes are brutal, though.
- 38:11[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 38:11[SPEAKER_09]: Between, yeah, they are brutal fight scenes, but get those two scenes that I'm thinking of.
- 38:17[SPEAKER_09]: We'll get to them.
- 38:20[SPEAKER_09]: Could be a little, you know, could be a little old.
- 38:22[SPEAKER_09]: Oh, no.
- 38:24[SPEAKER_02]: Any, yeah.
- 38:26[SPEAKER_02]: Any last thoughts that you want to tell people who are considering, whether to see it yet and haven't?
- 38:31[SPEAKER_09]: Oh, yeah.
- 38:32[SPEAKER_09]: You go see the movie because it's a lot of fun.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_09]: And it's just a really cool, as film.
- 38:41[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 38:42[SPEAKER_09]: And I think you'll enjoy it.
- 38:44[SPEAKER_09]: I really do.
- 38:45[SPEAKER_09]: I think you'll enjoy the story, you'll enjoy the characters, and it will leave you
- 38:55[SPEAKER_04]: Mm-hmm.
- 38:56[SPEAKER_09]: So that's the reason to see something.
- 38:58[SPEAKER_09]: That leaves you wanting more.
- 39:00[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 39:01[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 39:02[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, definitely.
- 39:03[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it feels like a complete story.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it's not like, at the end, you're like, oh, no, what happens next?
- 39:08[SPEAKER_05]: Right.
- 39:09[SPEAKER_02]: It doesn't really have a cliffhanger like that or anything.
- 39:12[SPEAKER_02]: But it just, yeah, an introduced a bunch of characters in a world, a very detailed world.
- 39:17[SPEAKER_02]: Very detailed.
- 39:19[SPEAKER_02]: It's incredible.
- 39:21[SPEAKER_02]: The world building that's packed into just words on the sides of buildings and things like that.
- 39:27[SPEAKER_02]: And it feels like they're going to build a really rich universe for us to play in.
- 39:34[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 39:35[SPEAKER_09]: So definitely go see it and enjoy it.
- 39:39[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, it's also, if you're not like, oh, God, I don't want to start a new interconnected universe.
- 39:44[SPEAKER_02]: It stands on its own.
- 39:45[SPEAKER_02]: It stands online.
- 39:46[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 39:47[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 39:48[SPEAKER_02]: And it's worth seeing in a theater for the visuals.
- 39:50[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, definitely.
- 39:52[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 39:53[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 39:54[SPEAKER_02]: Well, this is a great place to take a quick break.
- 39:56[SPEAKER_02]: And when we come back, we are ripping off the spoiler bandade and talking about the details of the movie.
- 40:02[SPEAKER_09]: All right.
- 40:03[SPEAKER_02]: See you in a minute.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_02]: All right, so let's dig a little deeper into the opening text.
- 40:22[SPEAKER_02]: It's very Star Wars, apparently.
- 40:24[SPEAKER_02]: I'd say they really want me to like David Cornswit.
- 40:27[SPEAKER_02]: He's a big Star Wars fan, and he's like, let's do the text like the original Star Wars.
- 40:36[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, so 300 years of meta-human.
- 40:39[SPEAKER_02]: So that means since about like 17, 25, that's when the first ones appeared,
- 40:48[SPEAKER_02]: Phil people in who are like, what does that word mean?
- 40:50[SPEAKER_09]: Oh, so meta humans are just like super powered individuals.
- 40:54[SPEAKER_09]: They have a meta gene, which is like a mutant right in from the Marvel universe, but they have a meta gene that can give them fantastical abilities.
- 41:08[SPEAKER_03]: And so... Yeah, yeah, oh, I mean,
- 41:12[SPEAKER_09]: That man is not a metahuman, let's just He's a guy with some gadgets Exactly, we're talking people things like Superman But I guess Mr.
- 41:22[SPEAKER_02]: Terrific's not a metahbeing either He's not He's not He's a guy with better gadgets
- 41:27[SPEAKER_09]: Unless you think, you know, like, intelligence is something that is, you know, an education.
- 41:33[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 41:34[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 41:35[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I guess we've met some in the form of blue beetle.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_02]: You know, we've met.
- 41:42[SPEAKER_02]: We know that in a creature commandos, I said that the mascara exists.
- 41:47[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 41:47[SPEAKER_02]: But, you know, I would think, like, oh, the mascara came out of the miss.
- 41:51[SPEAKER_02]: And that's why they figured out meta humans are there, but they mean it in creature
- 41:56[SPEAKER_02]: That was something that happened recently.
- 41:58[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 41:59[SPEAKER_02]: Mm-hmm.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_02]: So, but if we know that there's been like Frankenstein and the bride wandering around for centuries, but there are DC characters that are older than that.
- 42:11[SPEAKER_02]: And there's in the film in the background in the newsroom, I think it was.
- 42:16[SPEAKER_02]: There's a mural.
- 42:19[SPEAKER_09]: The Hall of Justice.
- 42:21[SPEAKER_02]: with James Gunn says that it's going to show the entire history of meta heroes of these heroes in the DCU.
- 42:31[SPEAKER_02]: But it also, like we haven't seen the whole thing, he says he's going to really separate pictures for people to analyze, but there are heroes in there that come from medieval
- 42:48[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, it's going to be super interesting to see how they weave that into the narrative.
- 42:54[SPEAKER_09]: But yeah, we got a glimpse of the specter in the hall of justice on the mirror, like on the ceilings and the walls, they have all these, like the cysteen chapel almost, you know, instead of angels in God and man is, you know, metal humans.
- 43:12[SPEAKER_09]: So I would love to see a breakdown of that.
- 43:16[SPEAKER_09]: a particular, just to be able to.
- 43:19[SPEAKER_09]: differentiate the different characters that we know of and we guess on the characters that we don't know about.
- 43:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, I mean, it's hard because we don't have the film at home to pause through, but apparently people are online are saying that they you we haven't been able to see all of it anyway, even those who have like downloaded cam copies and paused through.
- 43:39[SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
- 43:39[SPEAKER_02]: So James gun said he would release the images themselves and then we're going to have a field date with them.
- 43:47[SPEAKER_02]: Um, but yeah, so 30 years ago Superman arrives on Earth that tracks three years ago.
- 43:52[SPEAKER_02]: He revealed himself.
- 43:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 43:54[SPEAKER_02]: That's the part of the story.
- 43:55[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, man.
- 43:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 43:58[SPEAKER_02]: And go back and watch one of the many other stories if you want to know.
- 44:04[SPEAKER_02]: If you want to lose the meteor.
- 44:08[SPEAKER_02]: Amen.
- 44:08[SPEAKER_02]: And Hallelujah.
- 44:09[SPEAKER_09]: How about that?
- 44:11[SPEAKER_02]: Um, and so three weeks ago stopped an invasion, and this is where it gets interesting because it says, oh, that's good, right?
- 44:18[SPEAKER_02]: Like, well, it's complicated and three minutes ago, he lost for the first time.
- 44:25[SPEAKER_02]: And this tells us this is why we're jumping into the story at this moment because this is what makes this moment an interesting point to pick up his story because this is a moment
- 44:41[SPEAKER_09]: Yes, for better or worse, and presumably this is the first time he's done something on the scale, right to listen those consequences.
- 44:55[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 44:56[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 44:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 44:57[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, but it's also what we find out, of course, we're past this weather mark.
- 45:01[SPEAKER_02]: We find out that he's fighting the hammer of Barovia, and it's a clone of him.
- 45:05[SPEAKER_02]: So has all the same physical capabilities of him, but then is magnified into a giant size.
- 45:12[SPEAKER_02]: So like Superman, but much bigger is like, well, how are you going to fight yourself?
- 45:16[SPEAKER_09]: That's Superman without the restraints.
- 45:19[SPEAKER_02]: Mm-hmm.
- 45:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 45:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 45:21[UNKNOWN]: Mm-hmm.
- 45:22[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 45:22[SPEAKER_02]: Well, let's get into these plot details.
- 45:24[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to talk about one setting or elements of the plot at the time.
- 45:29[SPEAKER_02]: So it's going to be out of order versus the movie, but let's start with the, as the film does the fortress of solitude, which is not very solitude in this, he's got a whole family going on, you know, it's got
- 45:46[SPEAKER_02]: The dog and the bots and, well, we'll talk about who else apparently lives there, too.
- 45:55[SPEAKER_02]: So they, they film this in Spal's Bar in Spal Bar, Norway, which makes sense.
- 46:00[SPEAKER_02]: It's like the northernmost place that people can visit, popular tourist destination for that region.
- 46:05[SPEAKER_02]: But they set it in Antarctica versus the North Pole.
- 46:08[SPEAKER_02]: And that for me, that makes sense because Antarctica actually has more land.
- 46:14[UNKNOWN]: Right.
- 46:16[SPEAKER_02]: Um, and it's buried in ice and opens with Superman's DNA, which was like, did you know going in that Ultraman, what's going to be a Superman clone?
- 46:26[SPEAKER_09]: I had my suspicions, but I did not, I was in 100% sure.
- 46:30[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, I was the same.
- 46:33[SPEAKER_02]: It seemed like, you know, everyone was talking about like, oh, it's going to be a superman clone.
- 46:38[SPEAKER_02]: And then the moment it opened and they're like, well, how did you do that?
- 46:43[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, okay, well, that's confirmed.
- 46:45[SPEAKER_02]: So I think those like the worst thing.
- 46:48[SPEAKER_09]: But I didn't think it was, when I was in the movie before the reveal reveal, I was thinking that,
- 46:57[SPEAKER_09]: It's a superman from an alternate universe.
- 47:01[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, rather than a clone.
- 47:02[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 47:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 47:04[SPEAKER_02]: Where to have his DNA, and that's how I figured, I figured out as soon as Lex opened the four to three solid two, the man in the mask, whose face were not seeing, must have the same DNA.
- 47:17[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 47:17[SPEAKER_02]: How brutal was like being healed through the sun sounds like such a wholesome thing But the sound mixing they did on that which I always create crackles and pops like yeah That was great everything snap back in your muscles and yeah, and you are bones snapping back into place and your tendons Rear-ranging themselves you could feel all of that you can hear What did you think of the robots?
- 47:46[SPEAKER_09]: I love them
- 47:48[SPEAKER_09]: I loved the robot, and I was so pissed.
- 47:52[SPEAKER_09]: I was so pissed when Lex struggled into the, and they were just like, yeah, I was like, no, not number four.
- 47:59[SPEAKER_09]: No, I know.
- 48:01[SPEAKER_02]: He prefers to be called Gary.
- 48:02[SPEAKER_02]: Like Gary.
- 48:05[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you know, I love Alan Tudick.
- 48:07[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm always happy when he shows up.
- 48:09[SPEAKER_02]: Vocally or in person, he makes a great robot.
- 48:14[SPEAKER_02]: He's K2SO, also for anyone.
- 48:17[SPEAKER_09]: So yeah, I was really pissed.
- 48:20[SPEAKER_09]: I was really hurting for them hurting for the bots.
- 48:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 48:25[SPEAKER_02]: And all the bots were, I mean, I wonder if they're going to come back, or if this was just like James God and calling in favors with all of his friends, but they were all voiced by.
- 48:35[SPEAKER_02]: So number 12 was Grace Chen, that's the newest one, but all the others are James God and Regulars, we got Michael Roker, who has number one, he's the one who played Yondu and Guardians of Galaxy, Palm Clim motif.
- 48:51[SPEAKER_02]: who was number five, and that was Mantis, and Guardians of the Galaxy, Jennifer Holland, James Gunson, wife, who plays Harcoor in peacemaker.
- 49:00[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, it was a also-lebrity cameo voices.
- 49:04[SPEAKER_02]: And I was so surprised when the parents started to kiss.
- 49:07[SPEAKER_07]: So we're not.
- 49:09[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 49:09[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 49:09[SPEAKER_02]: We did not know Bradley Cooper was going to be in this movie.
- 49:12[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 49:13[SPEAKER_02]: So we Bradley Cooper's Jorel and it was driving me crazy, who was playing Laura Lourvam, but it's Angela Seraphian, who played Clementine in Clementine's Westworld.
- 49:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 49:26[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 49:27[SPEAKER_09]: I wouldn't mind seeing more of them.
- 49:29[SPEAKER_02]: Mm-hmm.
- 49:30[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 49:30[SPEAKER_09]: I wouldn't mind seeing more of them.
- 49:32[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, what if James got back and did an origin story, but did it like different, you know,
- 49:40[SPEAKER_02]: She set the entire thing on Krypton and have it.
- 49:43[SPEAKER_09]: I've got to get more of them.
- 49:44[SPEAKER_09]: I won't be able to vote this door out.
- 49:47[SPEAKER_02]: I just, yeah, I wanted an entire origin film on Krypton.
- 49:51[SPEAKER_02]: And you just set up, you know, Karaz is a story also, Supergirl, and yeah.
- 49:57[SPEAKER_09]: It's because if this door fell in and Lara just what we left thinking that they are, that's a big change.
- 50:09[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so we are the the message from the parents that he listens to out of comfort and it's cut off halfway and so I liked that You know Martha Kent his the mother who raised him she points out to to Clark later.
- 50:25[SPEAKER_02]: She says, you know What you wanted to be true about that second half of the message that says more about you than what was actually said because that's where your mind went was a wholesome place
- 50:38[SPEAKER_02]: What did you think of Jonathan and Martha Kent play by Spruit Taylor Vince and Niva Howell?
- 50:44[SPEAKER_02]: I love them, they were so cute.
- 50:48[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, they leaned very Kansas.
- 50:52[SPEAKER_02]: I thought, especially in the first scene, they put on accents.
- 50:57[SPEAKER_02]: I have a lot of family in more so Oklahoma, but also Kansas.
- 51:01[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm like, you're putting on the accent a bit strong.
- 51:04[SPEAKER_02]: It's clearly not your real accent.
- 51:07[SPEAKER_02]: And it's not they did a dialect coach.
- 51:12[SPEAKER_02]: show them, like the first time they're on screen, they want you to see them as just every day kind of pumpkins, you know, not like the glamorous, the glamorous Kryptonian parents that he has in his video.
- 51:26[SPEAKER_09]: The real contrast, the real contrast between sets of parents.
- 51:33[SPEAKER_02]: But then at the end, he realizes the parents who raised him or the ones who taught him kindness, and that's who he turns to for comfort, for you.
- 51:41[SPEAKER_02]: Because you see that they are his emotional rock, being raised in a good family.
- 51:50[SPEAKER_02]: Did you know crypto was inspired by James Gunstog?
- 51:52[SPEAKER_09]: I did, I did.
- 51:53[SPEAKER_09]: And if that's the truth, won't my gosh.
- 51:58[SPEAKER_09]: What is happening in the gun household?
- 52:01[SPEAKER_09]: Because that dog is out of control.
- 52:03[SPEAKER_09]: Crypto without a control.
- 52:05[SPEAKER_09]: Oh, it's so cool though.
- 52:07[SPEAKER_09]: It was so cool to see because in the story, it made sense why he's behaving this way with Calel.
- 52:17[SPEAKER_09]: What I mean?
- 52:19[SPEAKER_09]: Calel is not his his chritonian.
- 52:22[SPEAKER_09]: Right.
- 52:24[SPEAKER_09]: So he's going to act out.
- 52:26[SPEAKER_09]: in ways that Kahlo is not, is not happy about, but his own crittonion is, is cool with it, you know?
- 52:34[SPEAKER_02]: But that's what, when you say like, that's where the behavioral problems come from.
- 52:38[SPEAKER_09]: Yes, exactly.
- 52:39[SPEAKER_02]: Because when Supergirl shows up, she's just like, ha ha ha, yes, that's how I'll over me.
- 52:43[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, then doing this break the rocks, let's do all this stuff, right?
- 52:46[SPEAKER_09]: This is the fun part of life.
- 52:49[SPEAKER_02]: I thought that the VFX were really good.
- 52:53[SPEAKER_02]: It's hard to do animals, it's hard to do furry animals.
- 52:56[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 52:58[SPEAKER_02]: They had a stand-in called Jolene, and who apparently, Tavichord and Swed said that she
- 53:08[SPEAKER_09]: The Beyonce version or the Dali part, and the version.
- 53:11[SPEAKER_02]: That's important.
- 53:12[SPEAKER_02]: That's important.
- 53:12[SPEAKER_02]: Dali part, and there was a backup stand-in to hook out adopted by a member of the crew, Paul.
- 53:20[SPEAKER_09]: That's nice.
- 53:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 53:22[SPEAKER_02]: Would you think of the first credit scene?
- 53:23[SPEAKER_02]: Would you think of the credit scenes in general?
- 53:26[SPEAKER_09]: I thought they were cool.
- 53:28[SPEAKER_09]: That little snippet of them just watching over the earth.
- 53:32[SPEAKER_09]: Him and crypto was, you know,
- 53:38[SPEAKER_09]: Very supermanry, you know, and that's second one, not the whistle-or-larious.
- 53:43[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 53:44[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, I really thought I was like, I love the dynamic between him and Mr.
- 53:48[SPEAKER_09]: Terrific.
- 53:49[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 53:50[SPEAKER_09]: So I hope we get more of that and more of that, you know, it doesn't have to be that specific way that they are with each other, but more of that with how other people interact with with Superman.
- 54:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, I know it really gave me the feeling like are they're setting up Mr.
- 54:07[SPEAKER_02]: Terrific to be a big part of this universe, which we'll, I have thoughts about that.
- 54:10[SPEAKER_02]: We'll talk about theories about that.
- 54:13[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, the, you know, we're just so, they were simple credit scenes, and the first one especially, it's just, but it feels like a payoff, like the same where when he wakes up in Kansas and crypto is just sleeping and he's belly, like my cat sleeps on me the same way,
- 54:33[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 54:34[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 54:35[SPEAKER_02]: Are you all right?
- 54:36[SPEAKER_02]: Are you okay?
- 54:36[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 54:37[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, we know James gun is an animal person.
- 54:40[SPEAKER_02]: He's always putting animals in his films.
- 54:43[SPEAKER_02]: We got the squirrel moment.
- 54:45[SPEAKER_02]: We'll talk about more about that.
- 54:47[SPEAKER_02]: We got I liked details like when they were evacuating metropolis.
- 54:52[SPEAKER_02]: There were a bunch of people carrying their pets and like things because I'm always thinking like if I need to evacuate or the world ends Like I had to make sure that I had enough cat carriers even though I only ever use one at a time if you know if the zombie apocalypse comes I want to be able to put them in bags and run
- 55:12[SPEAKER_09]: And they did a painstaking the good job of making sure that we understood that metropolis or the downtown area that was taking the brunt of the damage was evacuated.
- 55:28[SPEAKER_09]: Right.
- 55:29[SPEAKER_09]: Right.
- 55:29[SPEAKER_09]: So, you know, don't worry, so the man is not here to
- 55:35[SPEAKER_09]: at any or course we're going to and that that's also agency of of the people not just standing around watching you know all hell break loose but like oh we got to get out of it and we got to get out of here right now and no one is standing around waiting for for the direction it's just like we got to go let's go yeah it attracts with
- 55:59[SPEAKER_09]: 300 years of having exposure to meta humans, like people know, oh, it's about to go down.
- 56:08[SPEAKER_09]: We, let's go, you know, so there's, is our city getting at this time.
- 56:14[SPEAKER_09]: Right, there's no looking at the sky and being amazed.
- 56:18[SPEAKER_09]: This is part of life.
- 56:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and it also was an interesting contrast with between Superman and Lex Luthor, and in the fact that Lex Luthor, you know, Superman's making sure everyone else is getting out.
- 56:32[SPEAKER_02]: Lex Luthor is just like, even the squirrels.
- 56:34[SPEAKER_02]: Even the squirrels.
- 56:36[SPEAKER_02]: And Lex Luthor's like, well, I'll just sit here until I have to go and then it's, you know, I did think it was cool that his sort of HQ was a bridge between two things.
- 56:49[SPEAKER_02]: And then it just took off and flew on
- 56:51[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but he's thinking about himself.
- 56:54[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, he's thinking about himself and I was just so happy to see all of those people in that, you know, bridge, spaceship, ship or whatever he had, being filed out in handcuffs.
- 57:08[SPEAKER_09]: You know, at the end, like all of them should get thrown into Bell Reef for how the many years they can get like, yeah, I hope we're going to talk about Bell Reef because woo, I'm a little nervous about what that's going to prove next.
- 57:25[SPEAKER_02]: But I also, you know, since we're, we were talking about the fortress of solitude.
- 57:30[SPEAKER_07]: Yes.
- 57:31[SPEAKER_02]: I love the teas we got at the end with Drunk Supergirl, like a Millie Alcock.
- 57:37[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 57:38[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Millie Alcock whom a lot of you will probably recognize from the first season of House of the Dragon.
- 57:45[SPEAKER_02]: But yes, so we find out she goes, she has to go to a planet that has a red sun to drink because the yellow sun, the yellow sun powers the kryptonian, so their metabolism goes too fast.
- 57:56[SPEAKER_02]: They can't get drunk, it just burns off too quickly.
- 57:58[SPEAKER_02]: And this feeds into James Gunn keeps saying that there's a comment called Woman of Tomorrow.
- 58:04[SPEAKER_02]: which is going to be, which is his primary inspiration for the Supergirl movie that's coming out June 26th, 2026.
- 58:11[SPEAKER_02]: So almost a year from now.
- 58:13[SPEAKER_02]: And that's going to be the next film in the DCU, although we're getting peacemaker in the lanterns TV shows in between.
- 58:18[SPEAKER_02]: And they,
- 58:20[SPEAKER_02]: Of course, yes, I love Supergirls since I was a girl myself because of that 80s movie that I watched on repeat But be after watching this I started to read the woman of tomorrow series because it's great It was it was a great tease and it's a great series of comics.
- 58:38[SPEAKER_02]: Indeed.
- 58:39[SPEAKER_09]: It's great.
- 58:39[SPEAKER_09]: I love that story Yeah, I love that story and it is a direct Like the opening of the comic is that she's getting drunk
- 58:50[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to plan over the red sun.
- 58:52[SPEAKER_09]: We were red sun, you know, is exactly that.
- 58:56[SPEAKER_09]: And I am so looking for it to it because I thought that story was such a awesome, awesome story.
- 59:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah.
- 59:05[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I love the reveal that Superman's was doing all this stuff and fighting for a dog that's not even his own dog.
- 59:13[SPEAKER_05]: Okay.
- 59:14[SPEAKER_02]: but then I just love the reveal also because well okay so all right comic spoiler incoming but in the beginning of that comic crypto get shot we would later find out at the very end the crypto crypto's fine but i'm like no i want crypto in it but just let crypto be in the story although i understand CGI costs right right right
- 59:35[SPEAKER_02]: And in Supergirl's defense, Clark was mocking her about when she said did the door move, but they literally rotated the fortress to face the sun.
- 59:47[SPEAKER_02]: So don't be a dick clerk.
- 59:50[SPEAKER_02]: The door actually did move.
- 59:53[SPEAKER_02]: I think we talked about that scene a lot of people are calling the interview scene, the best in the movie, do you agree?
- 1:00:03[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, yeah, um, did it the best scene in the movie?
- 1:00:09[SPEAKER_09]: Oh, man, that's... Give me until the end of the pot to answer the question.
- 1:00:16[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, yeah, because I was thinking about it, and a lot of ways,
- 1:00:21[SPEAKER_02]: It is a rather long scene, although it doesn't feel like it's totally gripping, but it's also, it's the most, it's just two people talking in a room.
- 1:00:27[SPEAKER_02]: It's literally just two people talking in a room, and the fact that it's so gripping is incredible.
- 1:00:32[SPEAKER_02]: But it's not like the rest of the movie, all kinds of superhero stuff is happening, and this is just two people being human with each other.
- 1:00:41[SPEAKER_09]: I mean, that final scene with him in Lex II, where you took the
- 1:00:50[SPEAKER_09]: the quote that he made about what he's, you know, just trying to be human.
- 1:00:55[SPEAKER_09]: I think that was pretty powerful as well.
- 1:00:58[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:00:59[SPEAKER_09]: Because on both sides, you see what's driving like this, you see humanity
- 1:01:12[SPEAKER_02]: Mm-hmm.
- 1:01:13[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:01:14[SPEAKER_02]: That was the moment.
- 1:01:14[SPEAKER_02]: That was the only moment where I felt sorry for Lex.
- 1:01:18[SPEAKER_02]: Oh.
- 1:01:18[SPEAKER_02]: He did him the rest of the movie.
- 1:01:20[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, you feel sorry for him?
- 1:01:22[SPEAKER_02]: For that one moment when he realized that he had lost to Superman, and he deserved.
- 1:01:28[SPEAKER_02]: And the entire world had turned on him, and he deserved it.
- 1:01:31[SPEAKER_02]: He deserved it.
- 1:01:33[SPEAKER_02]: But you saw, like, he
- 1:01:36[SPEAKER_02]: really hurt him as a human.
- 1:01:39[SPEAKER_02]: My heart went out to him just a little tiny bit in that moment.
- 1:01:42[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, almost.
- 1:01:44[SPEAKER_02]: But he was just, we'll talk about Lexington, but the interview, I do think it's interesting because they show Clark is not the perfect character.
- 1:01:55[SPEAKER_02]: You don't see new ones.
- 1:01:57[SPEAKER_02]: We see the depth.
- 1:01:57[SPEAKER_02]: We see the consequences.
- 1:01:58[SPEAKER_02]: We've been talking about and
- 1:02:01[SPEAKER_02]: It's, it's, calls back to a scene, ripped straight out of the original, Christopher Reeve movies, but it's now has an entirely new energy, because Lois is challenging him.
- 1:02:14[SPEAKER_02]: She's not falling over him.
- 1:02:16[SPEAKER_08]: Right.
- 1:02:16[SPEAKER_02]: She knows, she's like, I know who you really are, and I'm here to lovingly raise some fucking questions about your behavior and make you think about things.
- 1:02:27[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like this scene is in a lot of ways the thesis of the movie, you know, about, you know, because Clark even, he was, he's been interviewing himself and just like printing like Superman to this.
- 1:02:38[SPEAKER_02]: And he's like, that's not, that's not how you're doing this in words.
- 1:02:41[SPEAKER_09]: He's not, that's not how you're doing this in words.
- 1:02:44[SPEAKER_09]: He's not, that's not how you're doing this in words.
- 1:02:46[SPEAKER_09]: You know, I think the scene, the interesting part of it for me is that, lowest in asking him these questions,
- 1:02:58[SPEAKER_09]: is really protecting them as well because if he were to go in front of a any other camera or any other, you know, setting to answer those questions, how would he react at that moment?
- 1:03:16[SPEAKER_09]: She's given him the space they are to be vulnerable.
- 1:03:19[SPEAKER_09]: And I think that's really important.
- 1:03:22[SPEAKER_09]: You know, she's asking him these hard
- 1:03:25[SPEAKER_09]: questions to answer, making him think about what he's doing, but in a setting that allows him to be vulnerable, because it's just the tool of them.
- 1:03:40[SPEAKER_09]: Not only is she doing great journalism, but she's being a great partner.
- 1:03:44[SPEAKER_02]: right she's training him for she's she's like press training him basically because she's yeah they have all these back and forth about what's on and off the record and she's like no right you have to like you know we can take certain liberties because I'm here but that's not how this works and this is how it works in the real world you're gonna get caught out if you don't learn this stuff
- 1:04:07[SPEAKER_09]: So let me help you by asking you these tough questions that are giving you all these hard feelings, any motions, let's work through that.
- 1:04:19[SPEAKER_09]: I think it's a revelation for both of them, you know, that this is what partnership looks like.
- 1:04:26[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, because she's also struggling.
- 1:04:29[SPEAKER_02]: She wants to do the thing that a lot of people who have been on their own for Wales just push someone away, as soon as they get difficult, as soon as, you know, this friction.
- 1:04:41[SPEAKER_09]: Because she's given us good as she's given as well, right?
- 1:04:46[SPEAKER_09]: Making her question as well.
- 1:04:47[SPEAKER_09]: He's like, what would you have me do there?
- 1:04:49[SPEAKER_09]: We're going to be murdered, going to be killed.
- 1:04:52[SPEAKER_09]: How do you answer that question for yourself?
- 1:04:56[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 1:04:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:04:58[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:04:59[SPEAKER_02]: I like this new take on Lois.
- 1:05:01[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:05:02[SPEAKER_09]: It's a great scene.
- 1:05:03[SPEAKER_02]: I like how they played it like between being in the newsroom and then being back at the apartments where they're like, oh, did you see where we were all?
- 1:05:11[SPEAKER_02]: And like, so people, people at the Daily Planet don't know Clark is Superman, but they, they all definitely know they've been dating secretly, but I'm vote for three months.
- 1:05:23[SPEAKER_02]: And again, that number three, three months of dating.
- 1:05:25[SPEAKER_09]: How did you feel about the classes thing?
- 1:05:29[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so.
- 1:05:31[SPEAKER_02]: They said that he has hypnotic glasses and make his face look different, which it's like a perfectly common comic book.
- 1:05:39[SPEAKER_02]: It's a comic book book.
- 1:05:40[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:05:41[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 1:05:42[SPEAKER_02]: Did you want to talk about the canon, the comic book source?
- 1:05:47[SPEAKER_02]: Of that?
- 1:05:47[SPEAKER_09]: I mean, good.
- 1:05:49[SPEAKER_09]: It's, you know, we have, it's from Sua Man 330, um,
- 1:05:54[SPEAKER_09]: and it's master mesmerizer from a drop.
- 1:06:00[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, thanks for coming.
- 1:06:01[SPEAKER_02]: We're talking, this came out the same year as the original movie.
- 1:06:06[SPEAKER_09]: Movie, yeah, in 1978, 1978.
- 1:06:10[SPEAKER_09]: So yeah, this crittonian plexiglass and it amplifies a kind of super hypnosis that is always working at low power.
- 1:06:20[SPEAKER_09]: And when you look at Calo,
- 1:06:23[SPEAKER_09]: a clerk, it makes them look frayler.
- 1:06:25[SPEAKER_09]: He's not really good looking and it's just, you know, it totally shifts your, you're, um, what's the word I'm looking for?
- 1:06:35[SPEAKER_09]: It makes your perception out.
- 1:06:38[SPEAKER_09]: You know, perception of what clock can't really looks like.
- 1:06:41[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I did the the name perception immediately popped into my head because a doctor who there are things called perception filters and this will be kind of like that.
- 1:06:50[SPEAKER_02]: So people are like it's goofy.
- 1:06:52[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, I don't know.
- 1:06:53[SPEAKER_02]: It seems pretty standard sci-fi to me.
- 1:06:55[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, but also they said it wasn't it was an alternate earth later.
- 1:07:03[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, so that's something that we have to
- 1:07:06[SPEAKER_09]: I guess that gun will have to clear that up, I think, no.
- 1:07:09[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I mean, but this is a different continuity than the comic.
- 1:07:14[SPEAKER_02]: So in this case, this is on earth one if they're going to call it that.
- 1:07:19[SPEAKER_02]: We'll see if they bring that into it.
- 1:07:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I like that this was a concept that was suggested by a super fan named Al Schroeder the third.
- 1:07:28[SPEAKER_02]: And it was, I love when I go back and I read these comics from the 70s, they like marble comics, they have at the back the letters pages.
- 1:07:38[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:07:39[SPEAKER_02]: It's cool that these letters, like these letters pages are time capsules of how people reacted to these comics when they came out.
- 1:07:47[SPEAKER_09]: So yeah, yeah, absolutely.
- 1:07:50[SPEAKER_02]: kind of helped me appreciate the concepts more.
- 1:07:52[SPEAKER_02]: And I like that this was a super fan who wrote in, like, new all the Superman cannons, like he has an explanation for the thing everyone complains about about, you know, Superman, why, how would you not know it's him with glasses?
- 1:08:05[SPEAKER_02]: And they took it and they made a cannon.
- 1:08:07[SPEAKER_02]: So it's like head cannon became cannon cannon.
- 1:08:10[SPEAKER_02]: And now James got in throwing with it as well.
- 1:08:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:08:16[SPEAKER_02]: question, the version of Superman that we've seen in this movie, would you want him to be a benevolent dictator?
- 1:08:26[SPEAKER_02]: Would you put him in charge of the world?
- 1:08:28[SPEAKER_09]: No.
- 1:08:30[SPEAKER_09]: No.
- 1:08:30[SPEAKER_09]: You can't be a benevolent dictator.
- 1:08:33[SPEAKER_09]: No such thing.
- 1:08:35[SPEAKER_09]: In my estimation, the two don't match.
- 1:08:39[SPEAKER_09]: Would you make in president
- 1:08:47[SPEAKER_09]: that's a, you know, I'm not making call out.
- 1:08:53[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 1:08:53[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 1:08:54[SPEAKER_02]: It's fair.
- 1:08:54[SPEAKER_09]: We're going to present this.
- 1:08:55[SPEAKER_02]: I did not realize that the role was taken.
- 1:08:58[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 1:08:59[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 1:08:59[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 1:08:59[SPEAKER_09]: I will take it all to the universe, definitely.
- 1:09:02[SPEAKER_02]: But I think the instinct is for a lot of people to want to say like Superman is the perfect being who should be in charge in this, this show, this movie showed that.
- 1:09:12[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it's not that he shouldn't be.
- 1:09:13[SPEAKER_02]: He's probably, I would rather him be president of the United States for example, although he's not eligible.
- 1:09:22[SPEAKER_02]: Then a lot of other people, I mean, need to be specific.
- 1:09:27[SPEAKER_02]: I do mean like a lot of other people, you know, most of the politicians.
- 1:09:31[SPEAKER_09]: I think there's a story.
- 1:09:33[SPEAKER_09]: There's a story of Superman's story, Superman Red Sun, where he lands in Russia.
- 1:09:39[SPEAKER_09]: Right, during the 1930s, and as the story goes along, he becomes the premier of Russia and realizes that that's not his role.
- 1:09:52[SPEAKER_09]: He realized that he can do a lot of things, he can do all these great fantastic things, but humanity has to be humanity.
- 1:10:06[SPEAKER_02]: And I think you always need someone to keep you in check.
- 1:10:10[SPEAKER_02]: So I was glad to see Lois keeping him in check in this movie.
- 1:10:15[SPEAKER_02]: And she's not feeling one of those.
- 1:10:16[SPEAKER_02]: Like, Mr.
- 1:10:17[SPEAKER_02]: Terrific.
- 1:10:17[SPEAKER_02]: No, no.
- 1:10:19[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, Terrific.
- 1:10:21[SPEAKER_02]: And I also, I find it funny that, you know, we may, we reference the squirrel thing.
- 1:10:24[SPEAKER_02]: I love the squirrel thing.
- 1:10:26[SPEAKER_02]: I like that moment got me.
- 1:10:27[SPEAKER_02]: I'm an animal.
- 1:10:28[SPEAKER_09]: I'm a human man.
- 1:10:29[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but it's also, so they literally named, I'm pretty sure this is where the name comes from.
- 1:10:34[SPEAKER_02]: There's a technique in writing called Save the Cat where you have your hero do something heroic at the beginning, like saving a cat.
- 1:10:42[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm pretty sure it's named after that scene, from the 1978 Superman, where Superman literally saves a cat from a tree.
- 1:10:52[SPEAKER_02]: And so now instead, we get saved the squirrel, which it was so unexpected and made me burst out and laughter, but it was also like, oh, he's the real Superman.
- 1:11:01[SPEAKER_09]: And in the moment, I felt like this was a direct reputation of the snider for a Superman,
- 1:11:11[SPEAKER_09]: Clark didn't save Pa.
- 1:11:15[SPEAKER_09]: He didn't save John then can't.
- 1:11:18[SPEAKER_09]: He watched him die, where he could have swooped in and saved them.
- 1:11:22[SPEAKER_09]: This is, and that's the person who raised them, right?
- 1:11:27[SPEAKER_09]: And we have this Superman in mid-fight.
- 1:11:33[SPEAKER_09]: This is open into Save a Squirrel.
- 1:11:35[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:11:37[SPEAKER_09]: The drastic difference in a young clock can't even though he was a teen at time, but still.
- 1:11:44[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:11:45[SPEAKER_09]: Not being so worried about revealing himself, you know, fully fleshed out Superman who stopped to slave a squirrel.
- 1:11:57[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:11:57[SPEAKER_09]: A big difference in characters.
- 1:12:01[SPEAKER_02]: But he's also this, this hopefulness, this idealism is balanced by the other people in his life.
- 1:12:07[SPEAKER_02]: Like, lowest pushing back, but also we'll get into in a minute the justice gang are pushing back.
- 1:12:13[SPEAKER_02]: Also, um, you know, uh, well, we'll talk about that in a minute, but what do you think about the journey that Clark and lowest go on throughout this film where
- 1:12:24[SPEAKER_02]: I love, by the way, they have that big discussion with the monster fighting in the background.
- 1:12:28[SPEAKER_02]: I thought that was a good idea.
- 1:12:29[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, that was great.
- 1:12:30[SPEAKER_09]: That was hilarious.
- 1:12:31[SPEAKER_02]: So do you need to help them now, they're fine.
- 1:12:33[SPEAKER_02]: They got it.
- 1:12:33[SPEAKER_02]: Not yet.
- 1:12:35[SPEAKER_09]: That's fine.
- 1:12:36[SPEAKER_09]: And then you have green lantern hitting the thing with a green, green back.
- 1:12:43[SPEAKER_02]: And then you know, then with that, the final kiss at the end and the Cleveland Arcade real building, but something of a tropless.
- 1:12:54[SPEAKER_02]: And they are back together.
- 1:12:56[SPEAKER_02]: Did you?
- 1:12:57[SPEAKER_02]: I saw there was one review or someone shared the review with me where someone was complaining.
- 1:13:01[SPEAKER_02]: It was too much of a rom-com.
- 1:13:05[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm like, if anything, it's a rummage we came in Mr.
- 1:13:09[SPEAKER_02]: Terrific.
- 1:13:11[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, give me a break.
- 1:13:12[SPEAKER_09]: He's gonna say, go find some love.
- 1:13:16[SPEAKER_09]: No way.
- 1:13:17[SPEAKER_09]: No.
- 1:13:18[SPEAKER_09]: Definitely not too much a rummage.
- 1:13:21[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I think the interesting thing about this movie is you could dig into any corner of it and like do an entire series, just the press office itself, you know, we talked about Jimmy Olson play by Skylar Getskondo Getskondo and he that was a really interesting rendition that we're probably going to see more of and then I guess maybe in such a series, we would see more of the rest of the office, we got Wendell Pierce playing Perry White, the editor and chief.
- 1:13:49[SPEAKER_02]: And apparently, so I don't know if this is the actor's head cannon or really DCU cannon.
- 1:13:56[SPEAKER_02]: But Pierre said that white is always grumpy because Luther hadn't affair with Perry's wife.
- 1:14:02[SPEAKER_02]: And Perry's second child might actually be Luther's.
- 1:14:05[SPEAKER_09]: I think that's in the comics.
- 1:14:08[SPEAKER_09]: Okay.
- 1:14:08[SPEAKER_09]: I'll come back to that.
- 1:14:10[SPEAKER_09]: Definitely come back to that.
- 1:14:12[SPEAKER_09]: It's not at the end of this part on our discord, but yeah.
- 1:14:15[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and we see other like they have other characters who are there and feel like real characters.
- 1:14:21[SPEAKER_02]: They don't have time to get into everybody.
- 1:14:23[SPEAKER_02]: Of course, we have Steve Lombard.
- 1:14:24[SPEAKER_02]: We have Cat Grants, was one I recognized.
- 1:14:28[SPEAKER_02]: We have Ron Troop.
- 1:14:29[SPEAKER_02]: So, and then we have also blended with a real world person.
- 1:14:35[SPEAKER_02]: We get real life, ABC News correspondent Will Reeve, Christopher Reeve, son, makes a cameo.
- 1:14:42[SPEAKER_02]: as a reporter in the movie, and that's a really nice touch, I thought.
- 1:14:48[SPEAKER_02]: Did you ever see the documentary Superman, the Christopher Reeve story?
- 1:14:52[SPEAKER_09]: No, I never watched it.
- 1:14:54[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, it came out last year, and it's technically a DCU publication, although it's nonfiction, it's about Christopher Reeves' life and, you know, how he became Superman and his experience with it, and then of course, obviously, after he was fell and was paralyzed and everything.
- 1:15:25[SPEAKER_09]: So Perry's wife did have a affair with Luther and did have a child that Perry raised as a step, his stepson.
- 1:15:35[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 1:15:36[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 1:15:37[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, lots of dig into, I guess if there's a Jimmy Olson series, it would touch on all that stuff, it would probably be based around the daily planet I would assume.
- 1:15:47[SPEAKER_02]: I'd be cool, I'd be cool.
- 1:15:49[SPEAKER_02]: So we touched on Lex, what did you think of this version of Lex Luther?
- 1:15:54[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my gosh, this is, yeah, this is what this was.
- 1:15:58[SPEAKER_09]: Villain-ness and just absolutely delicious Villain-Ree, this is what you want.
- 1:16:06[SPEAKER_09]: I was waiting for put on a fake mustache and twirl it in my brother.
- 1:16:11[SPEAKER_09]: You will think, let's get that out of the way.
- 1:16:13[SPEAKER_09]: He was,
- 1:16:15[SPEAKER_09]: Oh, man, it's so great at being bad.
- 1:16:21[SPEAKER_02]: Mm-hmm.
- 1:16:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:16:22[SPEAKER_09]: This is the Lex Luther for the tarps.
- 1:16:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:16:26[SPEAKER_02]: Nicholas Holt also auditioned for Superman.
- 1:16:29[SPEAKER_02]: No.
- 1:16:30[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:16:31[SPEAKER_02]: This was right.
- 1:16:31[SPEAKER_02]: This was right.
- 1:16:32[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 1:16:33[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 1:16:34[SPEAKER_09]: he and body that that role like he really he put his foot into legs like really stepped into it just yeah yeah and I'm just quite not sure how you still have a semblance of empathy for him I'm waiting to hear this
- 1:16:52[SPEAKER_02]: I was just thinking, so someone Jake from Letterbox was commenting on, you know, I've been watching also old Batman movies and I was saying the Val Kilmer should have been the Joker rather
- 1:17:14[SPEAKER_02]: the best Batman of the actors could just as easily play Joven like Chris Chris I think Christian Bell thinks like that because you always talk about this.
- 1:17:27[SPEAKER_02]: I always think of you with this about how the important center of these stories is the relationship between the hero and their archnemesis.
- 1:17:36[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 1:17:36[SPEAKER_02]: And
- 1:17:37[SPEAKER_02]: They're kind of, in the two sides, we see this coming back over and over and various things that we've talked about, you know, like Daredevil born again, and other series that They're often shown as two sides of the same coin and juxtaposition with each other, and this was really, and so it's interesting, yeah, that he auditioned for Superman became Lex.
- 1:17:58[SPEAKER_02]: I could have seen him as Superman, but I think David Koran's wet is just too perfect, too perfect.
- 1:18:07[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, you know, this is it this is yeah, he perfect casting.
- 1:18:13[SPEAKER_02]: He tells himself a story like we have yeah, I said there's the save the cat moment.
- 1:18:18[SPEAKER_02]: He's that has the torch of the dog moment and is very like, yes, I'm jealous.
- 1:18:23[SPEAKER_02]: But tells himself he's the promethius who's saving the world from the.
- 1:18:29[SPEAKER_02]: Other titans, which, yeah, Prometheus is the one from mythology is a titan himself.
- 1:18:33[SPEAKER_02]: So he's bringing himself up, but Prometheus is the one who brought fire to humanity and we're not sure that this tracks, but yeah, that's what he said.
- 1:18:42[SPEAKER_09]: This is a lexan author that is just like you wrote, openly ruled by his jealousy.
- 1:18:49[SPEAKER_09]: That's the base of everything that he's doing.
- 1:18:53[SPEAKER_09]: Like why can I not be as loved or more love by the world than this guy?
- 1:19:03[SPEAKER_09]: Look at me.
- 1:19:05[SPEAKER_09]: I'm really smart.
- 1:19:06[SPEAKER_09]: I'm smart.
- 1:19:07[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:19:08[SPEAKER_09]: I'm doing the things that people wish they could be doing.
- 1:19:11[SPEAKER_09]: Here comes this lumbering,
- 1:19:19[SPEAKER_09]: No brain, and everybody's fawning over this person, this thing.
- 1:19:24[SPEAKER_09]: When they should be fawning over me.
- 1:19:28[SPEAKER_09]: Hmm.
- 1:19:30[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 1:19:31[SPEAKER_02]: It's interesting to have him as a contrast with Mr.
- 1:19:35[SPEAKER_02]: Terrific, who's also super genius.
- 1:19:39[SPEAKER_09]: Yes.
- 1:19:39[SPEAKER_02]: Tech guy, but I have the feeling Mr.
- 1:19:43[SPEAKER_02]: Terrific does not care what anybody thinks.
- 1:19:46[SPEAKER_02]: Except in that second credit scene, he was a little annoyed with Superman judging him.
- 1:19:52[SPEAKER_02]: But I get that but I care is Mr.
- 1:19:55[SPEAKER_09]: Terrific cares Michael cares about people.
- 1:19:58[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not saying I can care about people, but I one of the things that I loved about him was the he gave the nonchalance that he gave off all the times he gives off Bruce Wayne vibes that No Bruce Wayne that man vibes like Mr.
- 1:20:12[SPEAKER_09]: Terrific and Batman Cooler than Batman.
- 1:20:15[SPEAKER_09]: Oh, I think he's wake of it in Batman for me.
- 1:20:17[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, but that's the vibe like you don't know as much as I do
- 1:20:21[SPEAKER_09]: Let me handle this shit and, you know, I'll let you know when I need you out.
- 1:20:28[SPEAKER_02]: The misadrift also has an interesting contrast with the engineer, Angela Spisa Spisa Spisa, I think.
- 1:20:35[SPEAKER_02]: Played by Maria Gabriela de Farria, who's from Venezuela, and she has, so in this version of the story, she basically is like infused with nanotech that's like merged into her very being.
- 1:20:50[SPEAKER_02]: So her cells are kind of, have become nanotech and she can just shift, whereas like Mr.
- 1:20:56[SPEAKER_02]: Terrific, use this technology, she is become technology.
- 1:21:01[SPEAKER_09]: Yes, she is tech, literally.
- 1:21:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:21:06[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:21:06[SPEAKER_09]: She is giving away her humanity.
- 1:21:09[SPEAKER_02]: Although it's a pretty cool power that she has.
- 1:21:12[SPEAKER_09]: Yo, yeah, it doesn't definitely don't those the antides are cool, but she's giving away her humanity to become something other.
- 1:21:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:21:21[SPEAKER_02]: She said that the actress said that she played it as if she in Lex had a secret sexual relationship.
- 1:21:27[SPEAKER_02]: Did you pick that up?
- 1:21:29[SPEAKER_09]: I did it.
- 1:21:29[SPEAKER_09]: I did it.
- 1:21:31[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't, but I can see it, because it's also, I did notice during it that Eve Tessmacher, who she was playing with Victoria's Secret and Calzodonia model Sarah Sampau, who's from Portugal, and Eve was a character from the 1978 movie, you know, that's the trove.
- 1:21:54[SPEAKER_02]: It's a trip with Lex.
- 1:21:56[SPEAKER_02]: He always has these girlfriends who portray him, which fair.
- 1:21:59[SPEAKER_02]: They do it for reason because he sucks.
- 1:22:05[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, so Lex is supposed to be with Eve, but he was a lot nicer to the engineer.
- 1:22:11[SPEAKER_02]: He was more into where's Angela?
- 1:22:13[SPEAKER_02]: What's, you know, he values her more, I would say.
- 1:22:22[SPEAKER_09]: getting his master plan into motion.
- 1:22:26[SPEAKER_09]: Lexus someone who's putting ex-gruffins in prisons and alternate dimensions.
- 1:22:33[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:22:34[SPEAKER_09]: You know, so I can't imagine him carrying very much for the person who's sitting across from him at dinner or in bed.
- 1:22:43[SPEAKER_09]: You know what I mean?
- 1:22:45[SPEAKER_09]: Right.
- 1:22:46[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and I think Eve plays into it, too.
- 1:22:48[SPEAKER_02]: Like she's taking these selfies all the time and then you realize later and when you look at the movie, every time she takes a selfie, it's when something big happens in the background.
- 1:22:58[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:22:59[SPEAKER_02]: And so she's playing dumb, but she's getting... She's not dumb.
- 1:23:03[SPEAKER_09]: Huh?
- 1:23:05[SPEAKER_09]: And I like that.
- 1:23:06[SPEAKER_02]: Would you think about her romance with Jimmy?
- 1:23:09[SPEAKER_09]: I thought Jimmy was a shit.
- 1:23:10[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he called her mutant toes.
- 1:23:12[SPEAKER_02]: I think we'll go around with a show.
- 1:23:13[SPEAKER_09]: I mean, like, I don't know, like any of that.
- 1:23:16[SPEAKER_09]: Um, so I think she can do better than Jimmy.
- 1:23:19[SPEAKER_02]: Somebody says that she's hot and then Jimmy's like, oh, really?
- 1:23:23[SPEAKER_09]: And then at the end, he's like, well, no, she can do better than Jimmy else.
- 1:23:27[SPEAKER_02]: So he's, yeah, yeah, I think he did not treat her right.
- 1:23:31[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, if I had somebody for you, Jimmy's not it.
- 1:23:33[SPEAKER_09]: He doesn't deserve her.
- 1:23:35[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:23:37[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but I think she's not the one for Lex, I could see Lex in the engineer living happily ever after.
- 1:23:43[SPEAKER_09]: No, she needs to find her person.
- 1:23:45[SPEAKER_09]: Neither one of them individuals are her persons.
- 1:23:49[SPEAKER_02]: But so the engineer is a character who would turn up in the authority film that's supposed to be in development that apparently it's been put on pause because they're I guess they're stuck on what angle they're going to take to may I think probably they want to make a different from like the suicide squad and the boys and yeah I don't think the authority is is anything like that so I can't see watching this movie I can see this engineer as
- 1:24:18[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I'm sure it'll take a different form as it often doesn't add opinions with these coming books.
- 1:24:23[SPEAKER_02]: So I don't know.
- 1:24:24[SPEAKER_02]: We'll see.
- 1:24:24[SPEAKER_02]: We'll see.
- 1:24:25[SPEAKER_02]: I guess they're just trying to crack the angle in.
- 1:24:29[SPEAKER_02]: But she's the one who decodes the rest of the message from soups parents and lex releases it to the world and causes this total backlash.
- 1:24:38[SPEAKER_02]: which I think there's an interesting with the backlash that we get, it's interesting to have that earlier conversation we talked about with Lois and Superman, where she's pushing back firmly but from a place of love and nuance and versus this backlash we get from the public, where she's hysterical lashing out with no questions asked, you know, just like, oh, it's a media.
- 1:25:02[SPEAKER_09]: The backlash is a media.
- 1:25:04[SPEAKER_09]: There's no pause.
- 1:25:05[SPEAKER_09]: There's no wait to see if this is true or not.
- 1:25:08[SPEAKER_09]: It's just immediate backlash.
- 1:25:11[SPEAKER_09]: But then when you see Lexi bring him to the prison and you see the monkeys who are typing away, you know, formatting, yeah, forming the rage.
- 1:25:23[SPEAKER_02]: And it's something that, yeah, got.
- 1:25:26[SPEAKER_02]: No, say, do something that happens in the real world, not with the monkeys, but there are people who are forced to do these content, these hate farms like that.
- 1:25:37[SPEAKER_09]: And priming people to have the very reaction that they had when they saw the video.
- 1:25:44[SPEAKER_09]: Just give people the runway to when something happens, they've already been conditioned to react in a specific way.
- 1:25:56[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and of course, just latching onto the most hysterical part, like, you're, it's a herrom.
- 1:26:02[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, and then, of the Baravia guy was like, well, actually our women are his favorites.
- 1:26:09[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, that's so, very good.
- 1:26:11[SPEAKER_02]: It's got it.
- 1:26:12[SPEAKER_02]: Lois is like, no, I don't buy any of this obviously.
- 1:26:16[SPEAKER_02]: It's not far.
- 1:26:16[SPEAKER_09]: Did you?
- 1:26:17[SPEAKER_02]: No, or do you still?
- 1:26:19[SPEAKER_09]: No, do you believe the message?
- 1:26:22[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, do I think that it was real?
- 1:26:24[SPEAKER_09]: Yes.
- 1:26:25[SPEAKER_02]: Do I think his parents said that?
- 1:26:26[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 1:26:26[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I thought about it because they did make sure to say in the film that, oh, no, we had it checked by the best experts and it's, it's you, but you think it's real.
- 1:26:38[SPEAKER_02]: But I mean, it's like if anyone could fake it, it would be the engineer, I don't know.
- 1:26:41[SPEAKER_02]: I think I don't hate if it is real.
- 1:26:44[SPEAKER_02]: Like I don't have a problem with it being real.
- 1:26:47[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's interesting.
- 1:26:49[SPEAKER_09]: I don't hate that it's real, but I don't know if it's real.
- 1:26:52[SPEAKER_02]: Mm-hmm.
- 1:26:53[SPEAKER_09]: But there's a part of me that still believes that this recording was altered.
- 1:26:58[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:26:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:26:59[SPEAKER_02]: There's a part that believes that.
- 1:27:01[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:27:02[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, they could definitely be true.
- 1:27:04[SPEAKER_09]: And there's a huge, not a huge, but there are a lot of people who are upset that this could be real, because it takes away from what Dorella and Lara sent Calale away for, like they didn't sent him away to be a dictator.
- 1:27:21[SPEAKER_09]: Like the first part of the message is the message for many people.
- 1:27:26[SPEAKER_09]: So the second part of this message where rule them with a Quadisea,
- 1:27:31[SPEAKER_09]: rule them, they're stupid people who can rule over them and make sure you spread your genes and stuff like that.
- 1:27:38[SPEAKER_09]: That's more of, you know, that's not what people think when they think of Jarrel and Lara.
- 1:27:46[SPEAKER_09]: No, no, they think that of Zod.
- 1:27:49[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 1:27:50[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 1:27:53[SPEAKER_09]: So it'll be interesting if it is real and we get a future with more cryptoneous or we get insight
- 1:28:01[SPEAKER_02]: or with why I mean I wonder because there's been some slips with people in the press that suggest that there is another something with Superman in it in the works and and James Gunn is like talked about there's a secret project nobody knows about him like could it be a Superman sequel that may be more into the Krypton side of Kryptonian side of things?
- 1:28:29[SPEAKER_09]: because the next movie is Supergirl, if I'm not mistaken.
- 1:28:32[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 1:28:33[SPEAKER_09]: Right, and she was not a baby.
- 1:28:36[SPEAKER_09]: She was not a child when she left.
- 1:28:38[SPEAKER_09]: Crypto.
- 1:28:38[SPEAKER_09]: So she would know more about that.
- 1:28:41[SPEAKER_02]: Right, yeah, will we get the origin story?
- 1:28:43[SPEAKER_09]: And is this, is this a reason why she, she goes other places to get drunk?
- 1:28:47[SPEAKER_02]: Mm-hmm.
- 1:28:48[SPEAKER_02]: Will we get Argo City, yeah?
- 1:28:50[SPEAKER_09]: Right, because of the history that she knows,
- 1:28:53[SPEAKER_02]: Right, because that's why, yeah, she's drinking because she's she's gone through some stuff.
- 1:28:58[SPEAKER_09]: Right.
- 1:28:59[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 1:29:00[SPEAKER_09]: So it's an interesting, it sets up an interesting question.
- 1:29:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:29:04[SPEAKER_02]: Everybody watch the 1984 film.
- 1:29:06[SPEAKER_02]: It's fun and it explains a lot of that stuff.
- 1:29:12[SPEAKER_02]: So, okay, we talked a bit about Ultraman, but I think the key about this version of Ultraman
- 1:29:20[SPEAKER_02]: He's a dim-witted bone who is completely controlled by Lex.
- 1:29:24[SPEAKER_02]: Do you think, okay, at the end, we saw Ultraman go through a black hole, which Ultraman could probably survive.
- 1:29:31[SPEAKER_02]: Do you think Ultraman will become bizarre, Superman?
- 1:29:37[SPEAKER_09]: Oh, possible, but I'm not 100% sold on it.
- 1:29:45[SPEAKER_09]: Because we don't know how dim-witted he is.
- 1:29:50[SPEAKER_09]: We don't know much of anything about all the time from the parts that he's being mine controlled by Louvre.
- 1:29:59[SPEAKER_09]: So what happens when you know, not mine controlled by Louvre, what does Ultraman become?
- 1:30:05[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 1:30:05[SPEAKER_09]: So I'm not terribly sure if he will be a Bazaaro, because I just don't know.
- 1:30:12[SPEAKER_02]: Would that be interesting?
- 1:30:13[SPEAKER_09]: Right.
- 1:30:14[SPEAKER_02]: Would that be an interesting take for you if he did?
- 1:30:17[SPEAKER_09]: Hmm, I'm not keen on seeing Bizarro in this.
- 1:30:21[SPEAKER_05]: No, okay.
- 1:30:23[SPEAKER_09]: Not my favorite character, um, never has been, um, so I'm, I'm just not, I don't, I don't, I don't think we need evil opposite superman's in the world.
- 1:30:36[SPEAKER_02]: Why I have to hope if they do that, and I think that all signs point to the fact that they would take it a different more nuanced approach to it than we've seen in like animated series and things like that.
- 1:30:56[SPEAKER_02]: But the way fun fact, Michael Rosenbaum, who played Lex Lutheran Smallville, was one of the voices of one of Luther's raptor guards.
- 1:31:05[SPEAKER_02]: That's fun.
- 1:31:08[SPEAKER_02]: Another fun easter egg was there's a character.
- 1:31:11[SPEAKER_02]: There's one of the people in the background as Otisburg and Otis was second in the original in the Superman movie from 1978.
- 1:31:20[SPEAKER_02]: Um, in a similar thing to what we get here with the Lex wanting to create his own country, it Lex wants to create, you know, his own country and says, okay, we'll have this part be Otisburg for you.
- 1:31:33[SPEAKER_02]: And so they'd named a character that for this, another is fun.
- 1:31:39[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, yeah, I just think that, you know, you talked about James Guns, comic book cred, you just see it coming out in spades in this film, obviously a team worked on this, and I know a lot of people contributed, but I just, all of like the world building the backgrounds, like the food and drink friends in this world and everything, it's all gonna tie together.
- 1:32:00[SPEAKER_02]: I'm pretty sure, and just creates this other worldly, this is not our planet.
- 1:32:05[SPEAKER_09]: Planet situation, yeah.
- 1:32:07[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:32:08[SPEAKER_09]: Especially when we spoke about the music earlier, I love that they have their own.
- 1:32:14[SPEAKER_09]: you know, musical inspirations, you know, that is specific to the, to their world.
- 1:32:21[SPEAKER_02]: You know, yeah.
- 1:32:24[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, and just, um, I love Marvel.
- 1:32:27[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I love Marvel, but I think it's cool that DC, the geographies, even more, Marvel has different countries, you know, we've talked about
- 1:32:39[SPEAKER_02]: D.C. has, like, there is no New York City in D.C.
- 1:32:42[SPEAKER_02]: There is, there is no Coca-Cola, or there's no Oreos, there's, what is it that?
- 1:32:49[SPEAKER_02]: Carcose or whatever cookies?
- 1:32:51[SPEAKER_02]: They're like doing an advertising campaign for the end of the movie.
- 1:32:56[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I know, I think it's really cool.
- 1:32:58[SPEAKER_02]: And I also think it's cool how, like, the whole
- 1:33:03[SPEAKER_02]: I could dig into any one of those people who are in Lex Luthor's team and like why?
- 1:33:08[SPEAKER_02]: How did they get to this point and why are they being such sick offense to Steve Jobs want to be a guy?
- 1:33:16[SPEAKER_09]: Let's just look around.
- 1:33:18[SPEAKER_09]: Look around our real world, you know what I said?
- 1:33:20[SPEAKER_09]: Look at all those 20 late teen early 20s, some things that must hire to run this is a government agency.
- 1:33:34[SPEAKER_09]: You know what I mean?
- 1:33:34[SPEAKER_09]: These are the same talks of folks.
- 1:33:37[SPEAKER_09]: They don't care.
- 1:33:37[SPEAKER_09]: The joy and the greed that they had in watching, you know, Ultraman.
- 1:33:43[SPEAKER_09]: take now Superman and just, you know, listening to Lex and the happiness and the smurks on their faces like, yeah, yeah, look at what we're doing, haha, you know, type of attitude just really attracts, attracts.
- 1:34:05[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, no, I think it'll be interesting to see if these characters turn up in the future because they're now, they've lost their leader.
- 1:34:13[SPEAKER_02]: So what's going to happen to them?
- 1:34:15[SPEAKER_09]: I'll down jail.
- 1:34:16[SPEAKER_09]: They all got arrested.
- 1:34:18[SPEAKER_02]: Well, yeah.
- 1:34:19[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 1:34:20[SPEAKER_02]: We'll see.
- 1:34:21[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, did they create a gang in jail?
- 1:34:24[SPEAKER_09]: No, I don't know if they have the wherewithal to do that.
- 1:34:28[SPEAKER_02]: Alright, well speaking of gangs, we're going to take a quick break and when we come back, we're going to talk about the justice gang.
- 1:34:49[SPEAKER_02]: Alright, so we are back, and let's start with, we've said a lot about Mr.
- 1:34:54[SPEAKER_02]: Terrific.
- 1:34:54[SPEAKER_02]: But let's say more things about Mr.
- 1:34:56[SPEAKER_02]: Terrific.
- 1:34:57[SPEAKER_02]: So his real name is Michael Holt, played by Edie Githiggy.
- 1:35:02[SPEAKER_02]: And known for just being super smart with high tech gadgets.
- 1:35:07[SPEAKER_02]: Now, you say this is a particular favorite of yours.
- 1:35:10[SPEAKER_02]: What do you like about Mr.
- 1:35:11[SPEAKER_02]: Terrific?
- 1:35:12[SPEAKER_09]: Because he upends everything.
- 1:35:14[SPEAKER_09]: He's like, you know, he's rich.
- 1:35:19[SPEAKER_09]: black and super smart, maybe the third, second, fourth, small dispersion in DCU, depending on who's writing, right?
- 1:35:29[SPEAKER_09]: So I just, when that first read Mr.
- 1:35:33[SPEAKER_09]: Terrific artist was like, yeah, this is so fucking cool, you know, this type of character.
- 1:35:38[SPEAKER_09]: And just, you know, in the way that he's played, just really,
- 1:35:47[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, just I love everything about the character on the screen.
- 1:35:51[SPEAKER_09]: I really did From when he says, you know, I'm tracking everybody He's got that tracking nanos and everybody's black and it's like and then guy law and her and Hawk girl They look at each other like what?
- 1:36:05[SPEAKER_09]: And that is so again, you know, to make the comparison between him and Batman, but that is so Batman.
- 1:36:12[SPEAKER_09]: So we don't have Batman in this movie, but obviously there's some sort of, you know, interaction.
- 1:36:22[SPEAKER_09]: Because that is so Batman-y of terrific to be like, I'm tracking everybody.
- 1:36:28[SPEAKER_09]: I'm making sure I know everybody's at, I want to know what everybody's doing.
- 1:36:32[SPEAKER_02]: You know, and yeah, the way that he delivers everything like so non-plused is just like you just kind of accept it Whereas if someone else had said, but get it out get it out.
- 1:36:45[SPEAKER_02]: It's like, well, okay.
- 1:36:47[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, because at least that's how they found superman.
- 1:36:50[SPEAKER_02]: So, right.
- 1:36:53[SPEAKER_09]: And the tea spears.
- 1:36:55[SPEAKER_09]: It's still great.
- 1:36:56[SPEAKER_09]: Like that flight scene.
- 1:36:58[SPEAKER_09]: That he has on the beach.
- 1:37:01[SPEAKER_09]: with low-end, puts low-end in the, you know, whatever the bubble, and he's taking on the raptors, oh man, that was so, that was so cool, that was so cool and it goes to show, you know, what someone can do without superpowers.
- 1:37:18[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 1:37:19[SPEAKER_02]: I did feel, I mean, these are really high text fears.
- 1:37:22[SPEAKER_02]: We see like, they go, holographs, they can, you know, record, they can hack them their machines, they can do energy bursts.
- 1:37:31[SPEAKER_02]: And then you see crypto playing catch with them.
- 1:37:34[SPEAKER_02]: And I found this pain.
- 1:37:35[SPEAKER_02]: I found this pain.
- 1:37:36[SPEAKER_02]: He's like, no, those are expensive.
- 1:37:42[SPEAKER_02]: So it's not easy to make, don't you?
- 1:37:44[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, really good stuff, man, I really like it, but then it didn't that see what them in low as you like.
- 1:37:50[SPEAKER_09]: when he's going, they're going to the ship and they're just waiting for the garage door to open.
- 1:37:55[SPEAKER_09]: And she's like, you got a spaceship and it's just taking this long for the garage door to open.
- 1:38:01[SPEAKER_09]: I'm like, I'm working on it.
- 1:38:03[SPEAKER_02]: He's like, he's like, I'm building teaspooners.
- 1:38:06[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not making fast garage doors, priorities.
- 1:38:10[SPEAKER_09]: That was really cool.
- 1:38:11[SPEAKER_09]: That was really great.
- 1:38:13[SPEAKER_09]: So I like these little interactions that they have that break up the character.
- 1:38:18[SPEAKER_09]: And I think maybe that was all of them.
- 1:38:20[SPEAKER_09]: In order to me, these really fantastical concepts of people, but in those concepts, you have these moments where it's just two people, they're just human.
- 1:38:33[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:38:35[SPEAKER_02]: Well, he, the actor, Gethikki describes the character as an atheist who believes in justice and says he found knowledge, like he found meaning in knowledge after his wife died.
- 1:38:46[SPEAKER_02]: And so, I presume we're going to get more of that story, but they don't explain any of that in this movie.
- 1:38:52[SPEAKER_02]: They don't explain the mask.
- 1:38:53[SPEAKER_02]: Could you, one to explain the mask?
- 1:38:55[SPEAKER_09]: Mask?
- 1:38:55[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, the mask.
- 1:38:56[SPEAKER_09]: Like hides his identity, like it's, it's almost like hypnoblasses.
- 1:39:04[SPEAKER_09]: basically.
- 1:39:05[SPEAKER_09]: So you're looking at terrific and you see this T, but it's really hiding his facial features.
- 1:39:12[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, and it also he can use it.
- 1:39:14[SPEAKER_02]: It's tech itself, right?
- 1:39:15[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:39:16[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:39:17[SPEAKER_09]: And it's, you know, connecting to the spheres and his other technology as well.
- 1:39:22[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 1:39:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:39:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, I just, I'm totally, did not know this character before this totally all in on him now.
- 1:39:30[SPEAKER_02]: I'm a fan, I love the credits scene.
- 1:39:33[SPEAKER_02]: I want to see him in Superman and like a body-cop comedy sort of thing where he's looking at what, what is wrong with your face?
- 1:39:42[SPEAKER_02]: What are you looking at?
- 1:39:42[SPEAKER_02]: Like, the building is not even like what you want me to take the whole city apart and put it back together.
- 1:39:50[SPEAKER_09]: Man, they can rock, you know I love that.
- 1:39:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, mm, so the, okay, the next one is one who's not people's favorite characters, but I think they played it well, the aspects of that and that's Guy Gardner, one of the green lanterns played by Nathan Philly and we're going to see him again by the way, in Pete's Maker and in the lanterns TV show, what did you think of this version of Guy Gardner?
- 1:40:20[SPEAKER_09]: guys a jerk in comics to everyone.
- 1:40:24[SPEAKER_09]: Not to one person, not to this person, but to everyone.
- 1:40:27[SPEAKER_09]: He's a jerk.
- 1:40:28[SPEAKER_09]: So, him being so, you know, sure of himself and sure of his place and just being condescending and not really being any, there's no, being an egoist.
- 1:40:43[SPEAKER_09]: That is God, God.
- 1:40:45[SPEAKER_09]: You know what I mean?
- 1:40:46[SPEAKER_09]: So I thought Nathan Philly didn't just a stand-up job of portraying that aspect of him.
- 1:40:53[SPEAKER_09]: He's a hero, but he makes him, he's hard, he makes it hard for you to like him.
- 1:41:00[SPEAKER_09]: Even when he's doing all these heroic stuff, all of this heroic stuff, he makes it so hard for you to like and appreciate what he does.
- 1:41:09[SPEAKER_09]: And I think he captured that.
- 1:41:11[SPEAKER_02]: What I, the way I think this iteration is well played.
- 1:41:14[SPEAKER_02]: Well, first of all, I totally respect Nathan Philly and fighting to keep the comics bulk cuts.
- 1:41:18[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's a great decision that we're, yes.
- 1:41:22[SPEAKER_02]: But I think it's difficult, when you have a douchey character like this, who is one of the good guys, it's difficult to find that balance where they are just like, you're like, oh my God, this guy's the worst, but also he remains, he's entertaining to watch.
- 1:41:37[SPEAKER_02]: like, I don't, yeah, I don't like as a person, it's someone who would be, you know, you're annoying cousin and your family, you're like, oh, bro, I love you, but shut up, you know?
- 1:41:46[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, he's not cringe.
- 1:41:49[SPEAKER_09]: He doesn't come off as cringe, but he comes off as, like, how come on?
- 1:41:54[SPEAKER_02]: Well, what about when he revealed Superman's identity, Delos, which let's share it in here?
- 1:41:59[SPEAKER_09]: Because like, what if I didn't know, like, what you already know?
- 1:42:03[SPEAKER_02]: And Hawk Girls, like, oh man.
- 1:42:07[SPEAKER_09]: So that was really good.
- 1:42:08[SPEAKER_09]: That was really good.
- 1:42:10[SPEAKER_02]: So Nathan Phillyan is funny.
- 1:42:13[SPEAKER_02]: Nathan Phillyan has voiced a different version, a different green lantern, Hal Jordan in animated series.
- 1:42:21[SPEAKER_09]: So he's the green lantern.
- 1:42:23[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 1:42:24[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 1:42:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:42:25[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, does.
- 1:42:26[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:42:26[SPEAKER_09]: So there's a lantern core and then there's got me in for me rankings would be John how.
- 1:42:35[SPEAKER_02]: So John first, then how?
- 1:42:37[SPEAKER_09]: For me, yeah.
- 1:42:38[SPEAKER_02]: OK. And we are, by the way, for anyone doesn't this lantern show that's going to be out.
- 1:42:43[SPEAKER_02]: It's right now, they just say early, 2026, so before Supergirl, it's going to have, we're going to get Guy Gardner, Nathan Philly, and back.
- 1:42:52[SPEAKER_02]: And we are going to get the Hal Jorodon version, which is Hal Jorodon's version, the Ryan Reynolds played in that movie that everyone accepts me hates.
- 1:43:03[SPEAKER_02]: What?
- 1:43:03[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think you're not David.
- 1:43:10[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 1:43:11[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I didn't say I love it, but I don't hate it.
- 1:43:13[SPEAKER_02]: We will really hate that movie.
- 1:43:16[SPEAKER_02]: But this version, this time Hal Jordan is going to play by Kyle Chandler, and we're getting John Stewart, like you said.
- 1:43:22[SPEAKER_02]: And John Stewart is the one in the Justice League animated series, and he's going to be played by Aaron Pierre, and Aaron Pierre looks exactly like the Justice League animated series version of John Stewart.
- 1:43:34[SPEAKER_09]: Not exactly like him, but who are you?
- 1:43:37[SPEAKER_02]: Why think one key thing is, and they didn't do this with, do they always have
- 1:43:44[SPEAKER_02]: because it didn't do that in this movie.
- 1:43:46[SPEAKER_09]: Not all.
- 1:43:46[SPEAKER_09]: No.
- 1:43:47[SPEAKER_09]: No.
- 1:43:48[SPEAKER_02]: Because Aaron Pierre has, he has like, very little pigmentation in his eyes, which give a really striking look.
- 1:43:56[SPEAKER_02]: But it just made me think that they could do the glowy green eyes thing with him.
- 1:44:00[SPEAKER_09]: Right.
- 1:44:00[SPEAKER_09]: Give, but what I will say is that a lot of black folk wanted a more, how do I, a lot of folks wanted a darker skin green lantern.
- 1:44:10[SPEAKER_09]: That's right.
- 1:44:11[SPEAKER_09]: Really reflect John Stewart.
- 1:44:13[SPEAKER_09]: because as he's drawn in the comic books, he's much more, he's a dark skin black man.
- 1:44:18[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 1:44:19[SPEAKER_09]: Right.
- 1:44:19[SPEAKER_09]: And for a long time, we get in movies that we don't see darker skin black people represented dark screen.
- 1:44:28[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah.
- 1:44:29[SPEAKER_09]: And there's a break with this because I see Mr.
- 1:44:32[SPEAKER_09]: Terrific who's also
- 1:44:39[SPEAKER_09]: All right, so I think that there were people who were disappointed.
- 1:44:44[SPEAKER_09]: I have been not to be one of those persons, but I understood it and I understand it.
- 1:44:50[SPEAKER_02]: No, I get it.
- 1:44:51[SPEAKER_02]: I get it.
- 1:44:52[SPEAKER_02]: My question, Raiden regards to those two characters is, so I only know the John Stewart lantern from the Justice League animated series.
- 1:45:02[SPEAKER_02]: And he's such a serious character there.
- 1:45:04[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm sure that
- 1:45:05[SPEAKER_02]: that they're differentiating it, but I'm just, yeah, because we have this sort of dead pan tone with Mr.
- 1:45:13[SPEAKER_02]: Terrific.
- 1:45:14[SPEAKER_02]: I'm, yeah, I hope that I would like, I'm interested to see how they draw distinctions in their personalities.
- 1:45:22[SPEAKER_09]: I think John is a military person, right?
- 1:45:33[SPEAKER_09]: In the comics, he's come to be known as the Greatest Green Lantern.
- 1:45:37[SPEAKER_09]: OK.
- 1:45:39[SPEAKER_09]: Right.
- 1:45:41[SPEAKER_09]: So he's had some wild adventures in the last five, 10 years that have really elevated him as far as the scope of what he can do with willpower.
- 1:45:55[SPEAKER_09]: and really is a testament to the writing that they've gone above and beyond to make him a central figure within the comics in the superhero community.
- 1:46:08[SPEAKER_09]: But I think you'll get, I don't think
- 1:46:17[SPEAKER_02]: No, I don't mean that he should be a serious, I think he is a serious.
- 1:46:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, but I'm sure they're going to give him a distinctive personality.
- 1:46:24[SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, it'll be interesting to see.
- 1:46:26[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, definitely.
- 1:46:27[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, he's not Mr.
- 1:46:27[SPEAKER_09]: Terrific.
- 1:46:28[SPEAKER_02]: Mr.
- 1:46:29[SPEAKER_09]: Terrific is just like, I'm better than you.
- 1:46:32[SPEAKER_09]: I'm smart in you, you know what I mean?
- 1:46:34[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I'm smart in and you'll be the best arrogant.
- 1:46:38[SPEAKER_09]: I think so.
- 1:46:38[SPEAKER_09]: I think John is just a serious person.
- 1:46:42[SPEAKER_09]: And it's not about being better than you.
- 1:46:44[SPEAKER_09]: It's about I need to get the job done.
- 1:46:46[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, yeah, that's a good distinction, yeah.
- 1:46:49[SPEAKER_02]: I know, Hawke girl played by Isabella and I said, she said she hopes in the animated series for Justice League, Hawke girl, and John Stewart get together, and she said.
- 1:47:02[SPEAKER_08]: Well, there's a different Hawke girl.
- 1:47:04[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, but she, but they did take inspiration.
- 1:47:07[SPEAKER_02]: We don't know much about this Hawke girl's back, but they did take inspiration.
- 1:47:11[SPEAKER_02]: James gun did say that he took inspiration from these series.
- 1:47:16[SPEAKER_09]: Kendra and Shiaera, two different.
- 1:47:19[SPEAKER_09]: They have two very different characters.
- 1:47:22[SPEAKER_02]: Well, okay, so this is what we heard, oh, just to wrap up the lanterns before Nathan Philly and said about his character that, and I guess this comes from the comics origin, the gardener was hit by bus and in a coma and brain damage flipped the switch for his personality, and that's kind of why he is the way he is now.
- 1:47:46[SPEAKER_02]: But I love seeing, I can see why people complain about the Ryan Reynolds movie and that the powers didn't look right now that I see them done properly.
- 1:47:55[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, they did a good job with that in this movie.
- 1:48:02[SPEAKER_02]: I love to do the middle fingers flipping over.
- 1:48:06[SPEAKER_02]: That one's cool.
- 1:48:06[SPEAKER_08]: That one's that's great.
- 1:48:09[SPEAKER_02]: Um, anyway, so what Isabella Merced said about her character is that she is reincarnated from an alien retaining her memories and past trauma with a grumpy demeanor.
- 1:48:22[SPEAKER_02]: So I don't know, they could be for the DCU mixing together different versions of
- 1:48:38[SPEAKER_09]: Shaira is Ushiya, she's from that.
- 1:48:42[SPEAKER_09]: Then gosh, she's alien, she is, you know, that's what she is.
- 1:48:46[SPEAKER_09]: She's not a reincarnation of into someone else's body.
- 1:48:50[SPEAKER_09]: She inhabits her own person.
- 1:48:52[SPEAKER_09]: She is Ushiya.
- 1:48:54[SPEAKER_09]: No, so Kendra has this other history of being.
- 1:48:58[SPEAKER_09]: reincarnated, reincarnated, reincarnated, reincarnation, and having all those past lives, which I or doesn't have that, right?
- 1:49:06[SPEAKER_09]: So I don't know if they'll play that up or not, but I'm interested to see where they go because.
- 1:49:14[SPEAKER_09]: You know, I think whole girl is a fascinating character.
- 1:49:16[SPEAKER_09]: I think, you know, hurt and a lot of men are just really the themes of past lives, really resonate and just to see how you, you know, try to become better or what you're trying to achieve and each consecutive life that you live, I think could be, you know, great fodder for a story.
- 1:49:36[SPEAKER_02]: Mm-hmm.
- 1:49:38[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I hope, I mean, that's a thing with this movie.
- 1:49:40[SPEAKER_02]: Is everything they set up?
- 1:49:41[SPEAKER_02]: I want to dig into more.
- 1:49:43[SPEAKER_02]: Would you think it's fair when they, we have the rapid growth cause you, which is so cute.
- 1:49:48[SPEAKER_02]: I was so, I was with Superman.
- 1:49:50[SPEAKER_02]: I was like, don't kill the cause you, but they're like, Superman, you're naive.
- 1:49:54[SPEAKER_02]: You can't trap this thing.
- 1:49:55[SPEAKER_02]: It's only gonna cause more people to die, which side do you fall on there?
- 1:50:00[SPEAKER_09]: send it to the intellectual galactic zoo like Superman said like soup said maybe we could find an inter galactic zoo to take them but can you give it out of the city before it he probably could have he probably could have he could have probably grabbed it and bought it to an unhappeted space and the North Pole or wherever you know like green lantern could have contacted someone
- 1:50:29[SPEAKER_09]: to come pick this thing up, you know, his ring is a communicator as well, right?
- 1:50:35[SPEAKER_09]: So it could easily send out a signal.
- 1:50:38[SPEAKER_02]: They've said, but he couldn't pull it up straight up, so it doesn't have to Godzilla across the city being rubble in a tweak.
- 1:50:47[SPEAKER_09]: Absolutely.
- 1:50:47[SPEAKER_09]: I felt the ways that they did that to the casual.
- 1:50:51[SPEAKER_02]: Mm-hmm.
- 1:50:52[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't like it either.
- 1:50:53[SPEAKER_02]: And I have to wonder if, so they said they are currently being sponsored by Maxwell Lord.
- 1:51:00[SPEAKER_02]: And we got a quick cameo toward the end.
- 1:51:02[SPEAKER_02]: Maxwell Lord in the GCU's played by Shangon, who's already, if we just see play Weasel, was what else to see play anyway.
- 1:51:11[SPEAKER_02]: But,
- 1:51:12[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, comics spoiler.
- 1:51:14[SPEAKER_02]: He's not a hero.
- 1:51:15[SPEAKER_02]: This is not.
- 1:51:18[SPEAKER_02]: This is not a good guy.
- 1:51:19[SPEAKER_02]: This is the character that Pedro Pascal played in Wonder Woman 84, one of the various villains and has mine control.
- 1:51:27[SPEAKER_09]: Best part of that movie for me was Pedro Pascal's but yeah, I was the village the best part of that movie.
- 1:51:32[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, but yeah, he's mine control powers and so I know we're going to see more of Maxwell Lord and peace maker season two, but I just wonder how far down the road to villainy is Maxwell Lord already
- 1:51:48[SPEAKER_02]: And is there going to be a journey we see of this justice gang breaking away from him?
- 1:51:55[SPEAKER_02]: And might they become, I was wondering, could they become the terrifics?
- 1:51:58[SPEAKER_02]: Because their set-up is kind of a leadership role.
- 1:52:02[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, definitely that's a possibility.
- 1:52:04[SPEAKER_02]: But I like, in the movie, if you look at all the tech they're using all the time, it's like Lord Tech.
- 1:52:13[SPEAKER_02]: So just shows you, this man has a stranglehold on the technology of this universe.
- 1:52:19[SPEAKER_02]: But I bet Mr.
- 1:52:20[SPEAKER_02]: Terrific, if anyone can go against him.
- 1:52:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, if Mr.
- 1:52:25[SPEAKER_02]: Terrific's gonna take his own tech and go.
- 1:52:27[SPEAKER_09]: Oh, wonder woman.
- 1:52:32[SPEAKER_02]: And another character that we had, we saw this character in Creature Commendos.
- 1:52:40[SPEAKER_02]: We saw his son in the Suicide Squad, and that's Rick Flagg senior, played by Frank Grillo.
- 1:52:47[SPEAKER_02]: And so he had white hair in Creature Commendos, his hair is brown, because he was like filming or something else at the same time.
- 1:52:53[SPEAKER_02]: But,
- 1:52:55[SPEAKER_02]: I had a lot of sympathy from him for him, from Kudrick Commandos, but I do not like this character after this film.
- 1:53:02[SPEAKER_09]: I had no sympathy for him in creature commandos, and that continues.
- 1:53:07[SPEAKER_02]: But here he's treating Superman as a threat.
- 1:53:10[SPEAKER_02]: It's like he's ready to let like skill him.
- 1:53:12[SPEAKER_02]: And we know we have a lot of discussions about people getting arrested.
- 1:53:16[SPEAKER_02]: And Superman, he turns himself in.
- 1:53:18[SPEAKER_02]: It's not like Captain America for her.
- 1:53:20[SPEAKER_02]: He turns himself in because he wants to get into where crypto is.
- 1:53:24[SPEAKER_02]: But flag is immediately like, yeah, I'm just gonna hand you over to the man who hates you the most.
- 1:53:29[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, then he says, I'm sorry about all this.
- 1:53:31[SPEAKER_02]: Mm-hmm.
- 1:53:32[SPEAKER_02]: My house, sorry.
- 1:53:33[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, you really?
- 1:53:34[SPEAKER_02]: Super, sorry.
- 1:53:35[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:53:35[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:53:35[SPEAKER_02]: Come on.
- 1:53:36[SPEAKER_02]: Now, it's going to be interesting to see Frank Grellis Sr. and Peace Magazine, too, because Reminder, a Peace Maker killed Frank Grellis Sr. and the suicide squad, so yeah, well, what do you think of the Peace Maker cameo?
- 1:53:51[SPEAKER_09]: That was hilarious, that was great.
- 1:53:53[SPEAKER_09]: And I laughed out loud when I saw him.
- 1:53:55[SPEAKER_09]: And he was like, yeah, this is the problem.
- 1:53:58[SPEAKER_09]: He's like, this guy.
- 1:54:03[SPEAKER_02]: he reads also he was mocking Superman also he's mocking Superman in the news on this show but he was mocking Superman in season one and he insisted that Superman has a poop better she was like no look at it online so that cast a whole new light on hashtag super show that thank you talk about that yeah i didn't think about that that's hilarious
- 1:54:26[SPEAKER_02]: It's just the monkeys, manufacturing rage, and yeah, peace maker definitely laughs that stuff up.
- 1:54:34[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, so Lex, at the end of the movie, is being sent to Belle Reef.
- 1:54:39[SPEAKER_02]: Do you think, I mean, that's where Task Force M is, you know, the, from creature commandos, that's where Task Force X comes from from the suicide squad.
- 1:54:54[SPEAKER_09]: into the den with all the other super villains is a bad idea it feels like a bad idea well they don't know it's a bad idea right that's the whole key to everything because what Waller is doing is all in the shadows so they don't know it's a bad idea yet we'll find out that it's a bad idea it's quite possible it's quite possible
- 1:55:17[SPEAKER_02]: that's in background characters, reprising the role from our guest advanced research group, uniting superhuman.
- 1:55:22[SPEAKER_02]: So there are, I mean, we know that there's a TV show waller that's been gestating in the background so that is getting delayed, because again, they're just trying to crack it.
- 1:55:33[SPEAKER_02]: I wonder if it could be something if Lex could be a part of that.
- 1:55:38[SPEAKER_02]: Hmm.
- 1:55:39[SPEAKER_02]: Or even piece mega season two.
- 1:55:42[SPEAKER_09]: Maybe.
- 1:55:42[SPEAKER_02]: We'll see.
- 1:55:45[SPEAKER_02]: I'm interested in this whole pocket dimension thing.
- 1:55:48[SPEAKER_02]: That's also something from Peace Maker, the quantum unfolding story, Jaria.
- 1:55:52[SPEAKER_02]: We saw on Season 1, and it's coming back in Season 2.
- 1:55:56[SPEAKER_02]: What did you think about the pocket dimension shenanigans?
- 1:56:00[SPEAKER_09]: It seems like Lex doesn't have that technology fully fleshed out.
- 1:56:04[SPEAKER_02]: No, he's reckless.
- 1:56:05[SPEAKER_09]: Like his is very rudimentary at best.
- 1:56:09[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:56:09[SPEAKER_09]: Whereas in Peace Maker, they've almost
- 1:56:13[SPEAKER_09]: Mm-hmm, which is interesting to me.
- 1:56:17[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:56:18[SPEAKER_02]: I thought it was a cool concept for a prison.
- 1:56:21[SPEAKER_02]: There's a new character, Mr.
- 1:56:24[SPEAKER_02]: Handsome, but by Trevor Newellin, there's a Mr.
- 1:56:28[SPEAKER_02]: Handsome in the comics by looked him up and he's not at all the same.
- 1:56:31[SPEAKER_02]: It's just this is a new character.
- 1:56:34[SPEAKER_02]: But and kids apparently loving him.
- 1:56:38[SPEAKER_02]: the Mr.
- 1:56:41[SPEAKER_02]: Handsome of the one who's he's like Sharon, you know, faring the prisoners to the dead aka prison.
- 1:56:51[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and we see crypto.
- 1:56:52[SPEAKER_02]: We see the munkies and endless keyboards, and we see crypto there being studied and lack strides to kill him.
- 1:56:58[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, Lex, I hate you.
- 1:57:00[SPEAKER_09]: I know, so bad.
- 1:57:03[SPEAKER_02]: And Lex is like locking up his exes there, who wrote bad things out there.
- 1:57:08[SPEAKER_02]: And so, yeah, I'm glad that Lex's exes let out at the end.
- 1:57:13[SPEAKER_02]: But they just kind of indiscriminately let everyone go.
- 1:57:16[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm wondering who else is in there?
- 1:57:21[SPEAKER_09]: We don't know.
- 1:57:22[SPEAKER_09]: We know at least he had one super-powered being metamorphosis, but he have others.
- 1:57:28[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:57:31[SPEAKER_02]: So metamorphose Rex Mason, that was another new character for me.
- 1:57:34[SPEAKER_02]: Were you familiar with him?
- 1:57:35[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, yes.
- 1:57:38[SPEAKER_09]: What's his deal?
- 1:57:39[SPEAKER_09]: He's can turn himself into any element in the world, in the universe, in the known universe.
- 1:57:47[SPEAKER_09]: So once he knows about it, what it is,
- 1:57:51[SPEAKER_09]: basically turn himself into that thing.
- 1:57:53[SPEAKER_09]: I thought he was so the imagery, the way he was portrayed on screen was so cool, like flying, you know, just ahead, and tentacles, and passing, and it just really, yeah, it was so dope.
- 1:58:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, they played with that, yeah.
- 1:58:17[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:58:18[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we don't, again, we don't know his origin story, but when I looked it up, apparently in the comics, he was an archaeologist who is cursed by an ancient artifact, while on an expedition, but it's interesting, so he, he's together with Sapphire Stag, we saw her at the end and
- 1:58:47[SPEAKER_02]: the is being held hostage to force to force metamorphosis to, you know, produce kryptonite to keep Superman prisoner.
- 1:58:54[SPEAKER_02]: And baby Joey, what do I mean?
- 1:58:57[SPEAKER_02]: In the comics, I guess he has like reverse power where he can affect other people, but he is like green and alien looking in this.
- 1:59:05[SPEAKER_02]: What do you think his deal is?
- 1:59:07[SPEAKER_09]: I don't know.
- 1:59:07[SPEAKER_09]: I don't want to see what they what they do because
- 1:59:13[SPEAKER_09]: It's just, there are so many, you know, I, I want to believe that they're going to make him more elemental, you know, then, then his, his father, but then I want to know if they want to do something completely different, like, Gun is not, this is, and I think this
- 1:59:37[SPEAKER_09]: what I will praise good is that he's apparently not afraid to be different, so I want to see how kooky he can get, because there's no way I can imagine metamorphal Rxmason on screen, right, doing the things that he's doing.
- 2:00:02[SPEAKER_09]: you know showing visually those powers at work.
- 2:00:08[SPEAKER_09]: I could not have imagined it.
- 2:00:10[SPEAKER_09]: But for going to actually go through with it and execute it, I'm just like, again, I don't want to think about how things will be.
- 2:00:23[SPEAKER_09]: I just want to see how things are going to be, what they give us.
- 2:00:30[SPEAKER_09]: I'm watching my hands out of the, well, they're going to do this business.
- 2:00:35[SPEAKER_02]: Right, right.
- 2:00:36[SPEAKER_02]: No, I know.
- 2:00:37[SPEAKER_09]: And you know, I know I know that I get it because really I that is one part of the movie that I can say that I was totally not expecting for it to play out the way that I played out.
- 2:00:51[SPEAKER_09]: Crypto night hands.
- 2:00:52[SPEAKER_09]: Yes.
- 2:00:53[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 2:00:54[SPEAKER_09]: All the other stuff that he was doing.
- 2:00:56[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 2:00:56[SPEAKER_09]: No, there's I couldn't even I didn't even imagine it.
- 2:00:59[SPEAKER_09]: I didn't have the scope to imagine that they would actually do that on screen.
- 2:01:03[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 2:01:04[SPEAKER_02]: And I liked how they handled Metamorphose face turn.
- 2:01:07[SPEAKER_02]: You know, they brought in.
- 2:01:08[SPEAKER_02]: They showed that character Molly, who's just this kind, fluffle vendor, you know, and just gets pulled into this and, you know, he's like, well, I'm still, I feel honored to...
- 2:01:21[SPEAKER_02]: have known you and I see so much Russian roulette recently.
- 2:01:27[SPEAKER_02]: I've been watching Squid Game.
- 2:01:28[SPEAKER_02]: I was watching this movie in Tecto.
- 2:01:32[SPEAKER_02]: It's so much Russian roulette and I do kind of appreciate the dark humor of a second round wopsy where he's like, oh, I thought that was going to last longer.
- 2:01:40[SPEAKER_02]: Well, okay.
- 2:01:42[SPEAKER_02]: But then met a morpho, this is where we find out he is, you know, they're holding a son against him, but he is a good guy.
- 2:01:50[SPEAKER_02]: He is one of the heroes.
- 2:01:53[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, and just he says, he's crying when it happens.
- 2:01:59[SPEAKER_09]: And then he says to Superman, why are you sure you could get to him?
- 2:02:12[SPEAKER_09]: You know, that's the policies we made.
- 2:02:15[SPEAKER_09]: Are you sure you can say my kid looks at you and it says yes.
- 2:02:21[SPEAKER_09]: I believe it.
- 2:02:24[SPEAKER_02]: in one of the coolest things that he does then so he stops a kryptonite but Superman needs the sun to heal and he's like oh and he's like oh well I can't create a sun but I can create something like a sun and it's like that's so cool because of course he can he has as long as he knows what the parts are he can recreate can do it he can do it yeah that was really yeah um where does the escape sequence from the pocket universe rank amongst the action sequences for you oh wow
- 2:02:54[SPEAKER_09]: third.
- 2:02:56[SPEAKER_09]: Okay.
- 2:02:57[SPEAKER_09]: I would put, um, terrifics fight, Superman taking on the raptors, escape sequence, Superman versus Ultraman, the final battle.
- 2:03:12[SPEAKER_02]: Hmm.
- 2:03:14[SPEAKER_09]: I mean, I think it's, and I'm including, I'm including, um, the engineer in that.
- 2:03:21[SPEAKER_09]: Like that.
- 2:03:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's true.
- 2:03:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the whole engineer, the final, the battle in, um, in, for state, the solitude.
- 2:03:28[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I'm thinking when she does that cool, like, she does, she does like a handstand and then just reverse herself on the first, yeah, that was crazy.
- 2:03:39[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that was crazy.
- 2:03:41[SPEAKER_02]: Um, I don't, yeah, that's this whole sequence.
- 2:03:44[UNKNOWN]: Uh,
- 2:03:44[SPEAKER_02]: It was on one of the longer ones and maybe could have slightly shorter, but I had a bit of everything.
- 2:03:51[SPEAKER_02]: Although I have a question, didn't they say that that was a river of anti-matter and why didn't they fall apart when they touched it?
- 2:03:57[SPEAKER_09]: Because he's Superman.
- 2:03:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but what about the baby?
- 2:04:00[SPEAKER_09]: The baby never fell into it.
- 2:04:03[SPEAKER_02]: He held the baby up there entire time.
- 2:04:05[SPEAKER_09]: He held the baby up there entire time.
- 2:04:08[SPEAKER_02]: All right, all right.
- 2:04:09[SPEAKER_02]: And this also why Superman wasn't sucked into the whole,
- 2:04:14[SPEAKER_09]: I mean, using that, using a super breath to just push them propel them backwards, that's some super man shit right there.
- 2:04:23[SPEAKER_09]: I paid my ticket to see that.
- 2:04:26[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 2:04:27[SPEAKER_09]: I want my ticket for this.
- 2:04:29[SPEAKER_09]: When I put my ticket for it, super breath away from the black hole.
- 2:04:32[SPEAKER_09]: Let's go.
- 2:04:35[SPEAKER_02]: But I also, I love that this was followed by lowest taking him back to Kansas for some R&R.
- 2:04:40[SPEAKER_02]: I do for some reason in a Superman story.
- 2:04:43[SPEAKER_02]: I always love when he goes back to see his, but to see the kids.
- 2:04:47[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, you know, getting to heal.
- 2:04:51[SPEAKER_09]: To get in touch, even in the Snyder verse, when he came back to life, it was just like he went straight back to the farm.
- 2:05:02[SPEAKER_09]: Back to the earth.
- 2:05:04[SPEAKER_09]: Because we have to remember this, when man gets his powers from the sun, much like flowers and trees and everything that we live on is from the sun.
- 2:05:19[SPEAKER_09]: gives us life, and him returning to that is just like that's always been a grounding thing and it's always been a really super, not pun intended, a really dope thing about his powers, that connection to the earth, and what feeds the earth, what powers the earth,
- 2:05:49[SPEAKER_02]: And that makes sense.
- 2:05:51[SPEAKER_02]: And I love that they give lowest, more agency in this movie.
- 2:05:57[SPEAKER_02]: I love, you know, you're saying that Mr.
- 2:05:59[SPEAKER_02]: Terrific cares about people.
- 2:06:00[SPEAKER_02]: I guess we see it in the fact that I can't believe that he handed over his ship to the planet crew.
- 2:06:07[SPEAKER_09]: He's like, it's intuitive.
- 2:06:08[SPEAKER_09]: You can drive it, isn't it?
- 2:06:11[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:06:11[SPEAKER_02]: It's like me trying to teach my friends, stick shit when you're in college.
- 2:06:16[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:06:16[SPEAKER_02]: It's intuitive.
- 2:06:19[SPEAKER_02]: I love the whole dynamic of the daily planet stuff taking over the ship.
- 2:06:26[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, that was cool.
- 2:06:27[SPEAKER_02]: That was just some of the fun, some fun humor with the, yeah.
- 2:06:32[SPEAKER_02]: And so we get, we get everything starts to get wrapped up, you know, we find out it gets out that Lex and Vasile Garcos, the president of Baravia, have decided to conquer Charon Poor and then split it between them as their own little private kingdoms to rule, and I get revealed because thanks to Eve's selfies.
- 2:06:55[SPEAKER_02]: And then suddenly it's just like everyone turned on Superman now everyone turns on Lex like oh we never like the guy everyone agrees that guy's like yeah and this is the moment where I almost felt sorry for him but for him to kiss he he just realized that consequences were back to consequences do you think what do you think about Hawker all just dropping the
- 2:07:26[SPEAKER_09]: you know, she's not bad.
- 2:07:29[SPEAKER_09]: And I think that's a very, I think that's a way to distinct different she is to command from other heroes, right?
- 2:07:41[SPEAKER_09]: He's not going to do that.
- 2:07:43[SPEAKER_02]: I do think it's interesting that, you know, we had this country drunk or we and we have especially this kid holds up a Superman side, our flag.
- 2:07:53[SPEAKER_02]: We believe in Superman and then it's like Superman's not coming kid and it is these more morally gray characters like Hawthorle and the Green Lantern who come to save the day there because Superman is business.
- 2:08:06[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:08:06[SPEAKER_02]: Well, he's busy.
- 2:08:07[SPEAKER_09]: Superman's be has.
- 2:08:08[SPEAKER_09]: Because they wouldn't have done, they didn't do so before.
- 2:08:12[SPEAKER_06]: Hmm.
- 2:08:13[SPEAKER_09]: Right?
- 2:08:14[SPEAKER_09]: And so it's in watching Superman that they see like, we could be doing more.
- 2:08:21[SPEAKER_09]: We should be doing more, right?
- 2:08:25[SPEAKER_09]: And that's a threat to government empowers, but they're like taking the example and saying we could help more people than we're actually helping.
- 2:08:39[SPEAKER_09]: Let's go do that.
- 2:08:43[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, no, you're right.
- 2:08:44[SPEAKER_02]: I think the issues that they have a lot of respect for Superman and I think that's why I think that he's going to be the one to get them away from Maxwell Lord.
- 2:08:53[SPEAKER_09]: Hopefully.
- 2:08:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:08:56[SPEAKER_02]: How would you rank these three set pieces, that final battle in Jaron Poor?
- 2:09:04[SPEAKER_02]: The black hole starting to tear metropolis apart or Superman getting suffocated with the engineer's nanos and then doing the fall from space to knock her out.
- 2:09:17[SPEAKER_09]: The nanos.
- 2:09:19[SPEAKER_02]: That's your number one?
- 2:09:20[SPEAKER_09]: No, nanos are number one.
- 2:09:22[SPEAKER_02]: That was Narlie, when he was pulling it out.
- 2:09:25[SPEAKER_09]: Nanos or my number one when let's realize it what he's what he's doing And he's like he's the only one that's protected And it's like yeah, like you said that All-bron and no brain Right that was your gripe Turns out not so much because he figured out a way on the fly on the spot
- 2:09:51[SPEAKER_09]: to negate what you are doing.
- 2:09:54[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 2:09:55[SPEAKER_09]: And he didn't use his super strength to do it.
- 2:09:58[SPEAKER_02]: So that whole thing that Lex keeps bringing up about Brains versus Braun?
- 2:10:03[SPEAKER_09]: Yes.
- 2:10:04[SPEAKER_02]: It makes me wonder, of course, yeah.
- 2:10:06[SPEAKER_02]: So we have Mr.
- 2:10:06[SPEAKER_02]: Terrific who's another Brainiac here.
- 2:10:09[SPEAKER_02]: But what about the actual Brainiac?
- 2:10:13[SPEAKER_09]: I got Brainiac vibes from the engineer when she was in.
- 2:10:19[SPEAKER_09]: the footage is a solitude and she's locked into the computer and it's floating above it.
- 2:10:25[SPEAKER_09]: The game is so much brandy at vibes.
- 2:10:29[SPEAKER_02]: So let's say this year, Harley Quinn, the animated series, the latest season of it, and season two of my adventures of Superman, both did Brainiac stories, but they were so wildly different from each other that it gave me a whole new interest in this character that I'm very curious what approach the DCU would take.
- 2:10:49[SPEAKER_09]: I haven't seen the on-equen this season yet, I haven't watched it.
- 2:10:52[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, that was the more classic, like literally putting cities and jars that you're making.
- 2:10:57[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 2:10:58[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 2:10:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, okay, so as far as ranking those three scenes, I think.
- 2:11:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the NNI thing is also cool.
- 2:11:06[SPEAKER_02]: I think that the tearing metropolis apart, that was a cool effect I want to see with the fallout might be from that.
- 2:11:16[SPEAKER_02]: But I guess I liked, I just really liked the dynamic between the Justice Gang.
- 2:11:21[SPEAKER_02]: So I liked the whole life.
- 2:11:24[SPEAKER_02]: Let's go save Jar and Poor.
- 2:11:25[SPEAKER_02]: And then the NNI and Metamorphos invited to join the Hawke girl invite him.
- 2:11:31[SPEAKER_02]: and guy gardeners like no until he's like justice gang.
- 2:11:35[SPEAKER_02]: That's such a cool name.
- 2:11:36[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, you're in.
- 2:11:41[SPEAKER_09]: That was good stuff.
- 2:11:42[SPEAKER_02]: I want to see more justice gang.
- 2:11:46[SPEAKER_09]: I will say that that when Superman is talking to Lex in the control center,
- 2:11:53[SPEAKER_09]: and he's telling him what it means for him to be human and Lex is our rage and ego.
- 2:12:01[SPEAKER_09]: And it boils down to not wanting anything other than to, you know, to be more love than Superman is.
- 2:12:11[SPEAKER_09]: You can see that there was no, there was no ulterior motive other than,
- 2:12:19[SPEAKER_09]: pure jealousy on Lexus part for doing what he's doing.
- 2:12:24[SPEAKER_09]: There's nothing altruistic about any of this.
- 2:12:28[SPEAKER_02]: But Superman would look for the best in him so I will too.
- 2:12:32[SPEAKER_09]: No, um, he asks.
- 2:12:34[SPEAKER_09]: He says, you know, he's basically that's what he's doing.
- 2:12:38[SPEAKER_09]: He's trying to get Lex to to see like we're not that different.
- 2:12:44[SPEAKER_09]: Right.
- 2:12:45[SPEAKER_09]: But the things that
- 2:12:47[SPEAKER_09]: Bindists together are way more than the things that separate us, our shared humanity, right?
- 2:12:55[SPEAKER_09]: These, the fear, the wanting, the not being sure of oneself.
- 2:13:03[SPEAKER_09]: These are things that bind us together, and Lex is having none of it.
- 2:13:09[SPEAKER_09]: And I love that.
- 2:13:11[SPEAKER_09]: And I love when he, you know, like, pokes, soups, and immediately crypto goes in on them, like, fucking, who do you do it?
- 2:13:21[SPEAKER_09]: Don't touch my crypto.
- 2:13:23[SPEAKER_09]: And that's the moment I was like, oh, yeah, now that's his crypto, you know what I mean?
- 2:13:27[SPEAKER_09]: Like, you went to protect them immediately, right?
- 2:13:31[SPEAKER_09]: And through lex around, that was hilarious.
- 2:13:34[SPEAKER_09]: And both touching at the same time for me.
- 2:13:36[SPEAKER_02]: But that's also a thing about just because crypto's naughty dog doesn't mean crypto is in a loyal dog.
- 2:13:44[SPEAKER_09]: Exactly.
- 2:13:45[SPEAKER_09]: Exactly.
- 2:13:48[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so I mean, so much promise for the future.
- 2:13:51[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 2:13:52[SPEAKER_02]: There's some suggestion.
- 2:13:54[SPEAKER_02]: There's might be some sort of direct sequel in the works.
- 2:13:56[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously, we have super, super girl coming in June.
- 2:13:59[SPEAKER_02]: You know, we talked about peacemakers going to feature, especially a lot of the smaller.
- 2:14:05[SPEAKER_02]: characters that were in this lanterns is going to feature the lanterns and rumored spin-offs with misitrific and Jimmy Olson.
- 2:14:15[SPEAKER_02]: Now that this was reported by the Wall Street Journal, so it doesn't mean that they have been ordered, but it means I believe that it's true that they are being talked about as possibilities.
- 2:14:28[SPEAKER_09]: That would love both.
- 2:14:29[SPEAKER_02]: If these all come to fruition,
- 2:14:33[SPEAKER_02]: What do you most excited for?
- 2:14:35[SPEAKER_02]: Superman, two, super girl, peacemaker, lanterns, misotrific, or Jimmy Olson, which I guess would be like a daily planet thing.
- 2:14:48[SPEAKER_09]: I would be more most excited for a misotrific, super girl, and they instrument to
- 2:15:02[SPEAKER_09]: Um, those would be my top three.
- 2:15:04[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, yeah.
- 2:15:05[SPEAKER_02]: I piecemakers season two.
- 2:15:07[SPEAKER_02]: They'd have to fuck that up real bad because I love piecemakers season one so much.
- 2:15:12[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:12[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:12[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:13[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:13[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:13[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:13[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:13[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:15[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:15[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:15[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:15[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:15[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:15[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:16[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:16[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:16[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:17[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:17[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:17[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 2:15:17[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 2:15:17[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 2:15:17[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 2:15:17[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:17[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:17[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:18[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:18[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:18[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:18[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:18[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:18[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:18[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:25[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 2:15:25[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 2:15:25[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 2:15:26[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 2:15:26[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 2:15:26[SPEAKER_02]: is just doing good.
- 2:15:27[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's very intriguing, like what they're going to do with this and seeing how they set it up in this movie with the cameo we got with hers is really interesting.
- 2:15:36[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, yeah, I'm all in on Mr.
- 2:15:40[SPEAKER_02]: Terrific after this film, but like I keep saying with the Jimmy Olson one, I think it'll be interesting to see the daily planet on a deeper level.
- 2:15:50[SPEAKER_08]: Right.
- 2:15:50[SPEAKER_02]: So I guess all of them, and yeah, and Superman too, and show us more cryptone stories.
- 2:15:55[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 2:15:56[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:15:57[SPEAKER_09]: Although I am excited for the lantern show.
- 2:16:00[SPEAKER_09]: It's just that I've never been.
- 2:16:01[SPEAKER_09]: I think I would have been more excited if it was a singular lantern.
- 2:16:06[SPEAKER_09]: Oh, buddy, type of lantern show.
- 2:16:09[SPEAKER_02]: A more exciting show that it's mostly lanterns.
- 2:16:12[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 2:16:13[SPEAKER_02]: personally.
- 2:16:14[SPEAKER_09]: No, no, not that I don't want to see more than one lantern, but I think I would have been more excited if it was just a story focus on a single lantern with other lanterns coming aboard at some point.
- 2:16:27[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, okay.
- 2:16:28[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 2:16:29[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, for me, make see because I think, why I think this is also, and I'm not saying that James Gunn is writing that like he wrote this, but
- 2:16:37[SPEAKER_02]: but what he does do well in general, which I'm sure he's overseeing is, is how characters play off each other's group.
- 2:16:44[SPEAKER_02]: He exists in ensembles.
- 2:16:46[SPEAKER_09]: Absolutely, and I think that's, you know, for me, those cop, buddy, movies, and series, you know, it's a high bar, it's bad boys, Miami-Vice, you know what I mean?
- 2:16:58[SPEAKER_09]: Like those are my things and I'm like,
- 2:17:01[SPEAKER_09]: All right, if you want to do, if you're going to do something, it has to be talking in the top, is you know what I'm saying?
- 2:17:07[SPEAKER_09]: Just like, because yeah, so yeah.
- 2:17:12[SPEAKER_02]: All right, we'll see.
- 2:17:12[SPEAKER_02]: We'll see.
- 2:17:14[SPEAKER_02]: First up is piece matrices in two, starting August 21st.
- 2:17:18[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to be eight episodes, and we're going to be covering them with Aaron from Radioactive Ramlings.
- 2:17:23[SPEAKER_02]: So that's going to be fun.
- 2:17:25[SPEAKER_09]: That is going to be a lot of fun.
- 2:17:27[SPEAKER_09]: I'm looking forward to this piece maker.
- 2:17:29[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm looking forward to it.
- 2:17:30[SPEAKER_02]: I'm really looking forward to this piece maker.
- 2:17:33[SPEAKER_02]: I'm saving room in my top 10 list for piecemakers season 10.
- 2:17:36[SPEAKER_06]: Oh, OK.
- 2:17:39[SPEAKER_02]: But we're also getting more Marvel this summer.
- 2:17:41[SPEAKER_02]: We're in two weeks.
- 2:17:43[SPEAKER_02]: Two weeks.
- 2:17:44[SPEAKER_02]: Fantastic four in July, July 5th.
- 2:17:47[SPEAKER_02]: And then we're getting right after piecemakers starts.
- 2:17:50[SPEAKER_02]: We're getting a single four episode drop on August 27th of IZIPAL Kanda.
- 2:17:57[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 2:17:57[SPEAKER_02]: animated series looking back through the history of Wakanda different times so next six weeks of not a good stuff coming super summer uh yeah and also we just wrapped up murder about season one just finished season two is Greenland haven't seen the the fun now you've seen the Nellie oh the finale you've seen the part and the haven't watched it yet no yeah don't listen to the pod till you see it the finale is good the finale is like really
- 2:18:25[SPEAKER_02]: You know, because I read the novella and so I knew where the season needed to end with they add some stuff in the finale that made.
- 2:18:33[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my gosh It's like the tenses and most emotionally involving episode of the say no more say no more I'm that that's it
- 2:18:41[SPEAKER_02]: All right, but everyone, if you haven't watched murder bots, definitely, I'll talk about the hope punk murder bot, very hope punk, very, hope punk, also foundation season three just has just been done.
- 2:18:53[SPEAKER_08]: The first episode, I know.
- 2:18:54[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 2:18:55[SPEAKER_08]: Well, it was a little pot with John and Marilyn yet.
- 2:19:00[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, so far, seasons off too good.
- 2:19:02[SPEAKER_02]: So I've only seen the first episode, John and Marilyn, the recording ahead.
- 2:19:05[SPEAKER_02]: So I know John's very hyped on it after seeing, I think he's seen three episodes when
- 2:19:13[SPEAKER_02]: And we've also got starting in August, Alien Earth, which David's going to be spearheading, I think it's going to be weekly coverage of that with various cases.
- 2:19:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
