- 0:00SPEAKER_00: If you're still using caloric restriction to try to lose weight, you've probably been battling that for a long time.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: Maybe you've gone into keto, you've done other things, and all that stuff's great.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: The issue with caloric restriction, and do your research, your metabolism actually reduces pretty quickly when you start to reduce calories, so you're gaining that weight back pretty easily when you're finished.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: When you fast, however, metabolism actually goes up, believe it or not.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: You're doing something known as control starvation because you're not actually starving, because for you, food is probably plentiful.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: So that being the case, you have fat on your body.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: You want to access that fat.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: When you try to caloric restrict, it's very difficult because typically you're still eating the things that keep your insulin levels high.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: When your insulin level is high, you're in a sugar burning zone or a carbohydrate burning zone.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: And I'm being very simplistic and I'm not a doctor.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: When you go to the other end of it, though, and you restrict carbohydrates and sugar down to a particular point, your body then switches feeding mechanisms.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: And instead of burning glucose for fuel, it burns stored body fat.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: Well, that's what your stored body fat is on your body for, to burn in times of absence from food.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: So if you're taking medication, seek out your doctor.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: If you're not and you want to miss a meal or two, talk to your doctor.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: But in actuality, your metabolism increases when you don't eat.

- 1:28SPEAKER_00: Their metabolism actually went up 10%.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: So that's a big deal.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: So if you're eating 2,000 calories, that's your basic metabolism.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: Goes up to around 2,200 calories burned a day when you don't eat anything.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: To me, that's a benefit.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: Look into it and see what you think.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: Jason's Jason Fung is a great resource.
