Latest / Girls Gone Hallmark | Hallmark Movie Reviews / August First Impressions - Part 1
Transcript
- 0:10Speaker 1: Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark, a Hallmark review podcast. I'm Megan,
- 0:13Speaker 1: and I'm a longtime Hallmark fan. I'm Wendy. I'm a
- 0:15Speaker 1: former Hallmark hater. On today's episode, we are sharing our
- 0:20Speaker 1: first impressions of some of the August twenty twenty six movies,
- 0:25Speaker 1: part of the twenty fifth birthday celebration for the Hallmark Channel.
- 0:30Speaker 1: We'll be back a little bit later in the month
- 0:32Speaker 1: with our thoughts on the final two movies, which kick
- 0:36Speaker 1: off Fall into Love. We're getting an early start. Yeah,
- 0:40Speaker 1: they're taking like some of August, all of September, and
- 0:45Speaker 1: I would guess maybe like the first two weeks of October. Maybe. Yeah,
- 0:50Speaker 1: we don't have a full schedule yet, so we will
- 0:52Speaker 1: be back with the first impression episode as soon as
- 0:54Speaker 1: we have that full lineup. And of course you can
- 0:56Speaker 1: always check Girls on Hallmark dot Com where we update
- 0:59Speaker 1: these lineup. I think it's funny that they're like, you
- 1:02Speaker 1: know what, it's our twenty fifth birthday, so we're just
- 1:06Speaker 1: gonna have a special three movie slate for that. Well,
- 1:11Speaker 1: you know, they are doing an event in New York.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Have you seen the promotion for this? No, So at
- 1:17Speaker 1: the ninety second street Y on August fourth, they are
- 1:23Speaker 1: having a celebration Alie Sweeney, Andy mcdell, Andrew Walker, Ashley Williams,
- 1:27Speaker 1: Autumn reser, Barbaradib and the list goes on. People's Brion
- 1:31Speaker 1: heldmin is hosting it. They're doing kind of like one
- 1:35Speaker 1: of the I would assume it's similar to the Christmas
- 1:38Speaker 1: experience to the Stars on the Road Stars on Stage situation.
- 1:42Speaker 1: And you can live stream it. Oh wow, it is
- 1:47Speaker 1: sold out in person, but oh wow if you live stream,
- 1:50Speaker 1: let me see if you have to pay to live
- 1:51Speaker 1: stream it. I'm looking right now. Oh yes, streaming access
- 1:55Speaker 1: is twenty five dollars. Oh wow, that feels kind of
- 1:59Speaker 1: expensive in this economy. Twenty five dollars to stream, but
- 2:04Speaker 1: that's my opinion. And there's a six dollars virtual event fee,
- 2:08Speaker 1: which is ridiculous. Ninety second street Y come on, okay,
- 2:13Speaker 1: first of all, and can I please hollmark hear are cries?
- 2:18Speaker 1: Can we get a West Coast event please? Yes? I agree.
- 2:22Speaker 1: I've had a very good time watching the social clips
- 2:25Speaker 1: that have come out of their on the Road situation.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Did you see the Andrew Walker Jonathan Bennett first trap
- 2:32Speaker 1: situation that they posted girl, I haven't seen anything. Tell
- 2:35Speaker 1: me about it. Well, it's just them shirtless brushing their teeth.
- 2:40Speaker 1: My favorite part about it though, the ladies of the
- 2:43Speaker 1: first round of the tour made a reaction. Yea, we're
- 2:47Speaker 1: going to put both of those in the show notes
- 2:48Speaker 1: for this episode because they're having a good time over there.
- 2:51Speaker 1: That's hilarious. So, as mentioned, we do have three movies
- 2:55Speaker 1: dropping in August, it's worth noting that we also have
- 2:59Speaker 1: Paris's allys a good idea. The first two episodes drop
- 3:03Speaker 1: tomorrow Thursday, July thirtieth, and then we'll continue airing on
- 3:07Speaker 1: Hallmark Plus throughout the month of August. I'm gonna tell
- 3:11Speaker 1: you right now you should absolutely be watching it. Don't
- 3:14Speaker 1: sleep on that show. Do not get your free hoop
- 3:16Speaker 1: Las subscription. Get one of the discounted subscriptions available on
- 3:19Speaker 1: Hallmark Plus. Do it if you. Homewark Plus has a
- 3:23Speaker 1: fifty percent off for a year situation happening right now.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Get it. It will get you through countdown to Christmas.
- 3:28Speaker 1: It is worth it alone. For Paris is always a
- 3:30Speaker 1: good idea. I'm saying it right now. Yeah, it's so good.
- 3:33Speaker 1: So why don't we start with our very first movie Saturday,
- 3:36Speaker 1: August First Toast to Italy, starring Toy de Vito and
- 3:40Speaker 1: Will Kemp. Jenny travels to Italy for a special bottle
- 3:43Speaker 1: of wine for her sister's wedding. She meets Arigo, also
- 3:46Speaker 1: looking for the famous love wine, and together their search
- 3:50Speaker 1: leads to a love of their own. It's just giving
- 3:56Speaker 1: classic formulae on location. Look, Italy is going to be
- 4:01Speaker 1: doing the most in this situation. I think did they
- 4:06Speaker 1: actually shoot it? They did shoot on location. This is
- 4:09Speaker 1: not fau Italy and Vancouver. The movie poster gives me
- 4:13Speaker 1: some pause because they have hallmarkified yearbook photoed these two
- 4:18Speaker 1: beautiful stars down to be very generic. Now, I did
- 4:24Speaker 1: watch a clip and I think the still photos are
- 4:28Speaker 1: worse than the actual moving picture situation. Okay, but how
- 4:33Speaker 1: was the clip? Was it a preview of the movie.
- 4:36Speaker 1: It was like a sneak peek? Okay, And how was it? Well?
- 4:40Speaker 1: It was cute. Will Camp rides up on a little vespa,
- 4:43Speaker 1: and my question was his character's name is Arigo. And
- 4:47Speaker 1: to me, I'm like, oh, there in Italy, he must
- 4:49Speaker 1: be Italian. And I was like, oh no, are we
- 4:51Speaker 1: gonna get Will Camp, who they often make have an
- 4:53Speaker 1: American accent, have an Italian accent. They do not. He
- 4:55Speaker 1: has this lovely British accent in the movie and he's
- 4:59Speaker 1: quite charming in this clip. So to me, I was like, oh,
- 5:03Speaker 1: all right, okay, So she's an American and he's a
- 5:06Speaker 1: brit And then they meet up in Italy looking for
- 5:09Speaker 1: this wine. Yes, and what's the Do we know what
- 5:12Speaker 1: the wine is supposed to do? Well, we don't have
- 5:15Speaker 1: a lot of information at this point. It's the love wine.
- 5:20Speaker 1: I don't know if it's supposed to signify everlasting love
- 5:24Speaker 1: or true love or just I don't know. Maybe it's
- 5:26Speaker 1: a nice gift to give someone on their wedding. The
- 5:30Speaker 1: question we have though, is right they're both looking for it?
- 5:33Speaker 1: Is there like one?
- 5:34Speaker 2: Oh?
- 5:34Speaker 3: Like?
- 5:35Speaker 1: Is this it a limited edition situation? And they're gonna
- 5:37Speaker 1: have to like fight for it? And right, are gonna
- 5:39Speaker 1: have to betray the other to get the love wine?
- 5:42Speaker 1: Or can everybody win? Once we find the wine, there's
- 5:45Speaker 1: flowing for days. I just imagine that these two are
- 5:49Speaker 1: going to be enemies who end up falling in love
- 5:53Speaker 1: with each other under like a mistletoe bunch of grapes.
- 5:58Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, I mean it's it could be okay,
- 6:03Speaker 1: but it could be dreadful too. I like these two actors.
- 6:07Speaker 1: So we haven't seen Tory DeVito on Hamewark in a while.
- 6:10Speaker 1: I watch Chicago Med, Do I do? I'm in the
- 6:14Speaker 1: early seasons and she's still on the show. I don't
- 6:17Speaker 1: believe she's currently on the show, which is still filming.
- 6:20Speaker 1: It's have a billion seasons. Oh but yes, I like
- 6:24Speaker 1: her on Chicago Med. This could be just exactly what
- 6:27Speaker 1: we need. We got an on location nice to look
- 6:30Speaker 1: at sweet love story check in a box right here.
- 6:33Speaker 1: I mean, if we are talking Hallmark Channel's twenty fifth birthday,
- 6:37Speaker 1: why would you not put out a decent version of
- 6:40Speaker 1: a classic Hallmark movie? Okay, well, let decent is the
- 6:44Speaker 1: keyword there, So yes, and it could't surprise us. It could,
- 6:49Speaker 1: it has happened before it could. You know what I
- 6:52Speaker 1: think is going to be a great is the next
- 6:55Speaker 1: movie premiering Saturday, August eighth, starring Kimberly Sested and Jesse Metcalf.
- 7:03Speaker 1: It is called Absolutely Devoted to You. I hate the title,
- 7:09Speaker 1: so do I because it's giving grease right oh bliss?
- 7:14Speaker 1: Yeah it is? Yeah, Okay, different words, but yes, I
- 7:18Speaker 1: don't know why. Let me read the synopsis, okay, because
- 7:21Speaker 1: this is what has me most excited and ambitious. TV
- 7:25Speaker 1: producer devises a brilliant plan to reunite a nineties boy
- 7:28Speaker 1: band for an annual summer beach bash, but her idea
- 7:33Speaker 1: is derailed when she falls for the band's reluctant lead singer. Now,
- 7:39Speaker 1: did you ever see that? We read the book. It
- 7:41Speaker 1: was real spicy, where like the kind of the oh,
- 7:46Speaker 1: the idea of you. Yeah, the middle aged woman falls
- 7:49Speaker 1: for like the Harry Styles boy bander guy, but everybody's legal,
- 7:53Speaker 1: But it's real spicy. I did not watch the movie
- 7:56Speaker 1: because everyone said it was not great and I loved
- 7:59Speaker 1: the book and I just monthly experience ruined. Could this
- 8:02Speaker 1: be the Hallmark version of it?
- 8:03Speaker 3: Oh?
- 8:04Speaker 1: I like that? I like that, except yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 8:08Speaker 1: Kimberly is not older than than Jesse, Like he's not
- 8:11Speaker 1: like a young boy band. This is like, it's not
- 8:14Speaker 1: a current boy band. It's a nice boy band. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,
- 8:17Speaker 1: but I kind of like that, like he's a little
- 8:20Speaker 1: bit of the boy band bad Boy, boy band, bad Boy.
- 8:25Speaker 1: Did you have you seen the photos for this movie? No? Well,
- 8:30Speaker 1: you know, I love a boy band. I I do.
- 8:33Speaker 1: My very first concert in nineteen ninety was New Kids
- 8:36Speaker 1: on the Block. I have since seen New Kids on
- 8:39Speaker 1: the Block as an adult many times. And I've also
- 8:43Speaker 1: seen Backstreet Boys, yeah, many times. What's your favorite? Who?
- 8:47Speaker 1: I like Backstreet Boys better? Really? Yes, I like their
- 8:51Speaker 1: music better, like overall New Kids has like a few bangers,
- 8:55Speaker 1: but like I like more of Backstreet Boys bangers. You're
- 8:59Speaker 1: so funny. If I feel like New Kids and Backstree Boys,
- 9:05Speaker 1: the timing is different. Back New Kids came out way
- 9:08Speaker 1: earlier than Story, right, Yes, so Backstreet to me feels
- 9:11Speaker 1: more like in sync. It's in those that genre. Absolutely, yeah,
- 9:16Speaker 1: I mean they're more of the same era. In the
- 9:18Speaker 1: photos for this movie, there is an image that shows
- 9:22Speaker 1: whom I have to believe are the fellow boy banders
- 9:25Speaker 1: in all white outfits. Oh, they're leaning right into for
- 9:29Speaker 1: the millennials. Yeah, and I did see Backstree Boys at
- 9:34Speaker 1: the sphere and you know what, everybody wore all white? Yeah,
- 9:38Speaker 1: it's kind of a joke though, No, as if did
- 9:42Speaker 1: your husband wear all white? We both did what. I
- 9:47Speaker 1: didn't wear white pants? We both wore what. Yes, I
- 9:49Speaker 1: do purpose everybody does oh, and I'm dead. I'm dead.
- 9:55Speaker 1: I didn't know you like theme dressed for it. We're
- 9:58Speaker 1: a white shirt. Well, but I didn't question Moly, Yeah,
- 10:03Speaker 1: so did everybody else there. And by the way, everybody
- 10:06Speaker 1: else is my age, not like I'm the old lady
- 10:08Speaker 1: at this place. I love it. It was a great concert.
- 10:10Speaker 1: I highly recommend it. One of the best bagshot boys
- 10:13Speaker 1: at the sphere do it. Look, I'm not gonna talk
- 10:17Speaker 1: too much a shi t on you, because I do
- 10:19Speaker 1: love me some ninety eight degrees and that is in
- 10:22Speaker 1: that era as well. We all have our things. Look,
- 10:26Speaker 1: I don't claim to have good musical taste, never have.
- 10:30Speaker 1: But the heart wants what the heart wants. That is
- 10:33Speaker 1: all I'm gonna say about that. Anyway, I think this
- 10:35Speaker 1: is going to be super fun And Kimberly Sustad girlfriend
- 10:38Speaker 1: doesn't miss She's so funny, so funny, she's so good.
- 10:43Speaker 1: I've never seen a movie of hers, And I'm like,
- 10:45Speaker 1: Ugh could have used less Susta than this ever, totally,
- 10:48Speaker 1: and I'm very curious to see these Sustad Metcalf vibes.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Is this a welcome back Jesse Metcalf movie? I mean
- 10:57Speaker 1: it certainly seems like it and what a great way
- 11:00Speaker 1: to do it. Like, he hasn't been on the network
- 11:02Speaker 1: since Chesapeake Shores. Did he go over to I don't know.
- 11:06Speaker 1: I hope not. He's kind of been doing like his
- 11:09Speaker 1: own thing. He has like a a skincare line. What yeah,
- 11:14Speaker 1: Kim and Andrew Walker. Yeah, competing Hallmark skincare line. I
- 11:19Speaker 1: heard him on none other than Jeff Lewis Live. Oh yeah.
- 11:25Speaker 1: Google search for why did Jesse Metcalf leave Hallmark is
- 11:31Speaker 1: he left four creative differences, behind the scenes changes and
- 11:35Speaker 1: a desire for career growth. He disagreed with the direction
- 11:40Speaker 1: of his character's relationship in Chesapeake Shores. Oh so he
- 11:44Speaker 1: bounced way before right? Because wait when did that? Oh no,
- 11:48Speaker 1: that was like twenty wait let me let me look,
- 11:51Speaker 1: let me when did he leave? He left before the
- 11:53Speaker 1: show ended, Okay. He didn't like the fact that his
- 11:58Speaker 1: character and Abby not and up together got it. Okay, Well,
- 12:02Speaker 1: I guess it is. Welcome back, Jesse Metcalf. I'm here
- 12:06Speaker 1: for it. I'm excited about it. I'm excited to see
- 12:09Speaker 1: this movie. I don't like the movie poster. That's so funny?
- 12:13Speaker 1: Is it Tuesday? By the Bell for you it's yes, exactly,
- 12:16Speaker 1: it's like too cartoony. Yeah, I hear that. I kind
- 12:21Speaker 1: of do like it, just because it's flashy and bright
- 12:24Speaker 1: and it's something a little bit different, and it's certainly
- 12:28Speaker 1: giving nineties and getting my attention. Got it? This is
- 12:32Speaker 1: obviously the movie I'm looking forward to the most me too.
- 12:35Speaker 1: Same same, same, same same. The final Homework Happy Birthday
- 12:38Speaker 1: movie is on Saturday, August fifteenth. Ossie at Heart starring
- 12:43Speaker 1: Rhiann and Fish and Daniel Lissing. Samara, a former lawyer
- 12:48Speaker 1: now event planner, reunites with Nate, her ex coworker and rival,
- 12:53Speaker 1: to plan a couple's anniversary in Queensland and begin to
- 12:56Speaker 1: confront their past and fall for each other. Who's couple? Like?
- 13:00Speaker 1: What a couple's anniversary? What's his role? Oh? He wait?
- 13:05Speaker 1: Ex co worker? Is he a former lawyer too? No?
- 13:09Speaker 1: I assume he's an event planner? Why would he be
- 13:14Speaker 1: an ex coworker? They work together to plan events. Why
- 13:18Speaker 1: does her being a lawyer have anything to do with it?
- 13:21Speaker 1: I don't know, all right, maybe it's telling us that,
- 13:25Speaker 1: like she's real buttoned up and buy the book. Oh
- 13:27Speaker 1: you know, I hate that we're because projecting here. We
- 13:32Speaker 1: don't know, I know, but that's like code worker bitchy.
- 13:37Speaker 1: It certainly could be. Yeah. I have some reservations about
- 13:41Speaker 1: this because Ryannon Fish does a ton of like travel movies,
- 13:46Speaker 1: and some of them are not that good to be
- 13:48Speaker 1: quite frank. But I do like me some Dianiel Listen,
- 13:53Speaker 1: so I'm kind of hoping this is a good one.
- 13:56Speaker 1: And when I assume most of the listeners know Daniel
- 13:58Speaker 1: Listening is Australian, they do not ever let him have
- 14:00Speaker 1: his Australian accent in Hallmark movies. Hopefully he gets it
- 14:03Speaker 1: in this one. But you know who else is Australian?
- 14:06Speaker 1: Rhann and Fish. Yeah, I know, we've talked about that before.
- 14:10Speaker 1: I've never heard her with an accent, like, I don't
- 14:12Speaker 1: think I've ever heard like a regular interview with her.
- 14:15Speaker 1: I don't think she currently speaks with an accent. Oh,
- 14:19Speaker 1: like I think she. Shannon and Australia did send us
- 14:24Speaker 1: a clip of a very early work she did in
- 14:28Speaker 1: an Australian series that shows her with her accent, but
- 14:32Speaker 1: I don't believe she like either she grew out of
- 14:35Speaker 1: it or trained herself out of it. I think even
- 14:36Speaker 1: her interview voice is not an accent. Hmm, but I'm curious, like,
- 14:43Speaker 1: are we gonna get Rannon with an accent? Hopefully? I mean,
- 14:46Speaker 1: it would not make sense if Daniel doesn't have his accent.
- 14:48Speaker 1: Question for you, have you been asked to do any
- 14:52Speaker 1: press interviews? Not for this movie yet for any of
- 14:54Speaker 1: these movies? None of them yet. So let's rate these
- 14:57Speaker 1: three twenty fifth birthday movies in the order in which
- 15:01Speaker 1: you are most excited to watch them. Easy, Absolutely Devoted
- 15:06Speaker 1: to You number one, Ossy at Heart number two, Toast
- 15:09Speaker 1: Italy number three. Wow, I'm surprised. Well, it could be
- 15:13Speaker 1: a dead tie between those Toasted Italy and the Yeah,
- 15:18Speaker 1: for me, I'm switching those too. Asthletely devoted to You
- 15:20Speaker 1: is number one, Absolutely, then Toast to Italy, then Ossi
- 15:23Speaker 1: at Heart, simply because I have been burned one too
- 15:27Speaker 1: many times by a Rhiann and Fish travel movie. Oooooh,
- 15:34Speaker 1: I enjoy her. Put the picture of her, do it again,
- 15:38Speaker 1: make it work? Find that chemistry? Yeah, yes, put her
- 15:44Speaker 1: in a movie that she doesn't have to travel to
- 15:45Speaker 1: some far off land and be like, oh, look at
- 15:49Speaker 1: these salt mines or look at that's a real chicken
- 15:54Speaker 1: egg situation. I don't know what came first, Like, how
- 15:56Speaker 1: did she become the travel lady? Is this what she likes?
- 15:59Speaker 1: Tod you? Is this just the box that they've put
- 16:01Speaker 1: her in. I do not know. But let me ask
- 16:05Speaker 1: you this. If you're an actress, right, and is there
- 16:09Speaker 1: a part of you that would take all these travel
- 16:11Speaker 1: movies because you're getting paid to go to these countries?
- 16:15Speaker 1: Girls gotta eat. Well, I don't blame her by any
- 16:19Speaker 1: means and doing a job, I agree, But I'm like,
- 16:22Speaker 1: I would maybe kind if I wanted to travel the
- 16:25Speaker 1: world on someone else's dime, then maybe I would also
- 16:28Speaker 1: sign up to be like raise my hand for the Yeah,
- 16:31Speaker 1: oh maybe she loves it. She's like, I gotta be
- 16:32Speaker 1: in Australia. I gotta be in Machu Pichu. I got
- 16:35Speaker 1: to be in where else they send her? Costa Rica? Right?
- 16:40Speaker 1: I don't know? Okay, Well, this is going to be
- 16:42Speaker 1: an interesting birthday celebration for Homemark. Indeed, come back later
- 16:49Speaker 1: this month for the eight movie Fall Into Love lineup.
- 16:55Speaker 1: We do not know every movie in there, but there
- 16:57Speaker 1: are two HALLOWEENI movies in there, which I'm very very
- 17:00Speaker 1: excited about, plus a few mysteries. So It's going to
- 17:03Speaker 1: be a very interesting lineup. We'll be back with our
- 17:05Speaker 1: thoughts on that. Thank you for listening to this episode
- 17:07Speaker 1: of Girls Gone Hallmark. We'll be back next time with
- 17:10Speaker 1: more Hallmark reviews.
- 17:11Speaker 3: Goodbye, bye, all right friends, before we go, just to
- 17:26Speaker 3: quick heads up, you're about to hear some ads.
- 17:28Speaker 2: These little gems help us keep the show running and
- 17:30Speaker 2: the Hallmark love flowing. So do with that info what
- 17:34Speaker 2: you will, Grab a snack, hit the skip button, or
- 17:37Speaker 2: maybe just maybe listen in and discover your new favorite product. Bye.
