- 0:02Spire Podcast. Today we are thank you for once again tuning.
- 0:08Speaker 2: In so softly.
- 0:10Speaker 1: It was like the radio intro, thank you for tuning
- 0:13back in.
- 0:13Speaker 3: My name's Fulton, I'm Nick, Michael.
- 0:17Speaker 1: We are there's no title for us.
- 0:20Speaker 2: We are just here. We are.
- 0:23Speaker 1: I was gonna say something like we are the Spire Boys,
- 0:25but I was like that, weir.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Let's scratch this.
- 0:29Speaker 4: We started this over again.
- 0:30Speaker 2: That was all right, here we go.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Okay, drum roll please, Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen to
- 0:46the third episode of the Spire Podcast.
- 0:49Speaker 4: It is me Fulton, me Nick and me and Michael.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Thank you for tuning in again. So we're gonna jump
- 0:57right in our topic today. We've been going through the
- 1:00different Spire acronym, the Aspire acronym, the different letters and
- 1:06what they stand for for anybody who happens to be
- 1:09joining us and doesn't know what the Spire thing is.
- 1:12Spire is a memory aid that stands for spiritual, physical, intellectual, relational,
- 1:17and evangelical. It's meant to be used as a daily
- 1:20plan for life. So every day, in a practical sense,
- 1:25you would look for something that you can do spiritual,
- 1:27write it down and check it off after you do it,
- 1:29something physical, write it down, check it off after you
- 1:32do it, intellectual, relational, and then evangelical. So we're going
- 1:36to go into our own personal experience in each of
- 1:38those things, how our life is sort of moved around
- 1:42spire and how we are trying to sort of round
- 1:45out each of our daily plans in a sense. So
- 1:49what it really is all meant to lead into is
- 1:51the eevangelical And I know what you're probably thinking, you know,
- 1:56the gospel shouting on the streets, but that's not what
- 1:58it is.
- 1:59Speaker 2: That's kind of what the the whole point of this is.
- 2:00Speaker 1: It's really to become the best version of who you
- 2:04are and to come to know God, to know yourself,
- 2:09and then to share love and all of that with
- 2:12the world in a.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Real practical way.
- 2:14Speaker 1: So today we're talking about physical. Last time we talked
- 2:18about spiritual kind of how we pray, what that means
- 2:22to us, we listen to a or we read through
- 2:24a Matt Walsh talk, and so today we're on the physical.
- 2:31So I was going to start it off with the
- 2:34basic question, how.
- 2:36Speaker 3: About you started off right, Okay, okay, all.
- 2:40Speaker 2: Right, and we'll start.
- 2:41Speaker 5: He was finishing the intro to get through all of
- 2:43it and then be like, but first we're yeah, but first,
- 2:46first prayer.
- 2:48Speaker 3: Okay, all right.
- 2:49Speaker 1: In the name of the Father and the Son of
- 2:51the Holy Spirit, Jesus, thank you for this time here.
- 2:55We asked you to bring the Holy Spirit into this
- 2:58moment and into this conversation.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Help us to.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Delve into our own hearts and to see you there,
- 3:05and to come to know ourselves and to know you better,
- 3:09help the conversation and be of worth for everyone who's listening,
- 3:13and that in some way blesses them and blesses us
- 3:17as we continue down this path of life.
- 3:21Speaker 2: We asked this in your name, Amen.
- 3:23Speaker 4: Amen.
- 3:24Speaker 1: Okay, So first we're of business in your guys's spire plan.
- 3:33What do you do for physical stuff? What's your physical
- 3:36How do you check that box?
- 3:38Speaker 4: All right?
- 3:39Speaker 6: So it's different for me throughout the years, but recently,
- 3:45twice a week I've been going to the gym with
- 3:46a couple of friends, you know, getting swollen, but I
- 3:52can tell, and so in that way my physical of
- 4:00you know, really pushing myself in moments. I also like
- 4:03going climbing whenever it can, like hiking or climbing, yes,
- 4:08both of them, but like rock climbing. Rock climbing in
- 4:11a gym, I haven't done real rock climbing. Oh that
- 4:13sounds more fun, Like oh, cap no, I don't want
- 4:17to die.
- 4:18Speaker 2: What's that guy's name?
- 4:19Speaker 3: So okay, I forget his name.
- 4:23Speaker 2: I don't know. It's super cool though.
- 4:25Speaker 6: But otherwise, you know, I've never really had a consistent
- 4:28workout schedule. I've been doing that more recently with his gym,
- 4:31with a couple of friends, but I've always been relatively active.
- 4:37I love doing anything on the trails, whether or not
- 4:39it's on a bike, unicycle, or climbing anywhere.
- 4:42Speaker 3: Just being active, going out and doing stuff outside.
- 4:46Speaker 6: So I think physical doesn't I mean, a daily thing
- 4:49is very important, but there's also aspects of the You
- 4:51can't go on a twenty mile hike every day, but
- 4:54you can do it every once a month and have
- 4:56a really good time doing that, and so I need
- 4:59to work on them more daily.
- 5:00Speaker 2: So why is that important to you?
- 5:03Speaker 1: Like, why do you do those sorts of things, and
- 5:06how does that affect it positively for you?
- 5:09Speaker 3: Positively affect your day and all that?
- 5:11Speaker 6: Well, one experience beautiful moments of peace just out there
- 5:15in nature seeing what I see, hanging out with her
- 5:18if I'm with but two Honestly, after a good workout,
- 5:24specifically cardio type workouts, because other workouts I'm in pain
- 5:28from my soreness and the legs and whatnot. But in
- 5:31the cardio workouts of like mountain biking and all that, Like,
- 5:35once I take my shower and cool off and everything,
- 5:37it's just the rest of the day, I just kind
- 5:39of feel content, just like it's like you did something
- 5:42like that, I'm done. It's just like my body feels
- 5:44comfortable knowing that it worked out and it did stuff,
- 5:49and it's just such a peaceful thing to just sit
- 5:52down and do nothing after you did something.
- 5:56Speaker 3: So that that's about it for me.
- 5:58Speaker 4: Cool.
- 5:59Speaker 5: So I think I told you guys the first time,
- 6:04like I hurt my UCL so like I couldn't do
- 6:06anything for the longest time basically, like unless I was
- 6:09just like running or walking, my arms and stuff I
- 6:12couldn't use all. But last night I started going to
- 6:14the gym again. So from here on out, it's gonna
- 6:17be like five days a week.
- 6:18Speaker 3: Oh my goodness, it's a lot.
- 6:21Speaker 5: It is a lot, but it's uh and then well,
- 6:24I guess I'll get into that in the second. But
- 6:28then there's obviously other things of like I was talking
- 6:31about drinking water, making sure that I'm not just eating
- 6:34junk all the time all fast sometimes just you know,
- 6:40little things throughout the day. But five days a week
- 6:43is a lot. But I've never really been able to
- 6:47be consistent with it in the past. And so there's
- 6:50like two reasons I want to do it. The first
- 6:52one is just because of the discipline, Because if I
- 6:56tell myself, even if I don't feel like it, I'm
- 6:58gonna go to the gym, I'm gonna hit legs because
- 7:00that's like nobody wants to hit legs, but I'm gonna
- 7:03do it any because I know it's gonna suck. So
- 7:07just the discipline aspect of it. And then also like
- 7:10what you were talking about with just feeling accomplished, Like
- 7:14it's weird, but when I work out, I almost have
- 7:17like more energy after now, I'm just like I feel like.
- 7:20Speaker 4: I'm in a better mood. I feel like I have
- 7:23more energy.
- 7:23Speaker 5: I feel like I can just I don't attack my day,
- 7:27especially if I do it earlier. I usually don't work
- 7:29out until later because of work and stuff. But it
- 7:33just it makes me feel more energized, It makes me
- 7:34feel more fulfilled, and just physically, if you're in better
- 7:39shape physically, it makes you feel like you're in better
- 7:41shape mentally, spiritually, emotionally, everything like it bleeds over into
- 7:45other aspects of your life. So just if I'm able to,
- 7:49I don't want to say a prayer that I'm able
- 7:50to hit it consistently every week, because you know it's
- 7:53a big thing.
- 7:54Speaker 4: But uh yeah, I mean basically all of what you
- 7:58said too.
- 7:59Speaker 6: One need to say on that before you know you
- 8:01answer the question. But that that makes total sense because
- 8:05there's so many days in which you know, I've done nothing,
- 8:08basically practically nothing, just be a couch potato, and I
- 8:13feel so exhausted mentally tired, and there's like no explanation
- 8:17for it because I've done nothing. There's nothing that should
- 8:20be straining me. But the act of doing nothing strains.
- 8:26Speaker 4: Anything. Yeah, it does. To do something, which is weird.
- 8:30That's very good.
- 8:30Speaker 6: Yeah, the start of doing something of the hard part,
- 8:33But after you do that, or while you're doing it,
- 8:35it's so much better. But it's so easy to just
- 8:38say on that couch potato, because the one step you
- 8:40have to take before it's relatively smooth sailing that feels
- 8:45so difficult when you're just not wanting to do anything.
- 8:48Speaker 1: I know, I okay, look, I know that working out
- 8:52is important, but this one is the one that I
- 8:54struggle with the most because I the so like I
- 9:00went through different phases kind of the same thing with you,
- 9:02where it's like.
- 9:03Speaker 2: I go through different like I would.
- 9:05Speaker 1: I used to play baseball all the time, and then
- 9:07I like trained at a gym more, and then I
- 9:09did like went to Planet Fitness and all this stuff,
- 9:12but I ended up hurting my back trying to lift
- 9:18too much, you know, the glasses through. And so now
- 9:23really what it looks like on a day to day
- 9:25basis is more of like the I would say, like
- 9:32wanting to be somewhat athletic, but not like a bodybuilder
- 9:36type thing.
- 9:37Speaker 2: So it does come us down.
- 9:38Speaker 1: To, like, like a big thing that I've been trying
- 9:41to figure out is like my diet and stuff, because
- 9:46I've got these food allergies that came from like out
- 9:48of the blue when I was like from fifteen to seventeen.
- 9:51So now I've got to be like much more aware
- 9:54of the foods that I'm eating what's got inflament like
- 9:56inflammatory things, And so I'm much more aware of how
- 10:02foods and drinks and water and sugar is affecting my body.
- 10:06And it's like how that affects my mind, because what
- 10:08I found is if I would eat if I eat
- 10:11like sugar, or if I eat a food that I'm
- 10:12like allergic to or something, it actually makes me more
- 10:16susceptible to like being depressed for like a few days.
- 10:20And so I went through this phase of I would
- 10:24basically eat whatever junk food and all that stuff, and
- 10:27I could handle it for a little while, but then
- 10:28I slowly would be sick all the time. And then
- 10:31but I was already used to eating it so much
- 10:34that I, even though I knew it wasn't like the
- 10:36best thing for me, I still couldn't like stop eating it.
- 10:39But it was like terrible for the longest time. And
- 10:43so that's been like a huge thing, is that I've
- 10:45been trying to sort of recorrect all that stuff and
- 10:48figure out the natural remedies for a lot of these
- 10:51different food allergies and like sicknesses that.
- 10:55Speaker 2: A lot of people have nowadays. Okay, it's not just
- 10:57it's not.
- 10:57Speaker 1: Just because I have weak jeans or anything. It's like
- 10:59this is a that's the whole thing. But it and
- 11:02then the other thing is since there's been like I've
- 11:07been learning about this other stuff. It's called postural postural
- 11:15rep u restoration postural yeah, posture restoration system or whatever
- 11:22it is. But it what it does is it goes
- 11:24into the intricacies of how your brain uses your body
- 11:28to connect to the world, and then it'll know what
- 11:32muscles to activate and muscle groups to use and how
- 11:35to situate your body based on its ability to connect.
- 11:39But then when you have injuries or if you have
- 11:42like a shorter leg or or whatever, it is your body,
- 11:46which is already asymmetrical round well enough, just with the
- 12:19different sensors that you have and like electric currents. So
- 12:22there's like all of this weird stuff that I've been
- 12:24having to learn because I've got these injuries from basically
- 12:27pushing myself too hard with working out and trying to
- 12:29go above.
- 12:30Speaker 2: And beyond being impatient, you know how goes. It's a
- 12:32classic story.
- 12:33Speaker 1: And then I so the main things that I do
- 12:37is try to since lifting weights and stuff or running
- 12:42aren't really options because I've got like a knee issue,
- 12:47a lower back issue, and then like a foot issue.
- 12:50It always just ends up in me hurting myself more.
- 12:53So now I've got to kind of do the old
- 12:55man style and I'm like, all right, So I'm like
- 12:58learning more about how your connects to the earth and
- 13:01the kind of support you need, and that stuff is
- 13:04super interesting. If anybody has got problems with like feeling
- 13:08like you can't activate muscle groups or like they're always
- 13:11tight in certain areas, those are the kind of videos
- 13:14you want to watch. Is postural restoration something to restore
- 13:20proper wait, twist risks, never mind to restore proper posture? Yeah,
- 13:26and so I've been learning a lot of that. So
- 13:28every day I try to do something involved with whether
- 13:30it be becoming more informed on how the body's supposed
- 13:33to be laid out, where the different joint pains or
- 13:37inflammation things are coming, whether it's diet or sleep, and
- 13:42then trying to also a big thing is getting my
- 13:45heart beating every day at least once.
- 13:48Speaker 2: And I'm definitely not perfect.
- 13:50Speaker 1: I'm not claiming that at Allah, but a good thing
- 13:54is a good rule of thumb that I use is
- 13:56trying to get my heart beating every day, because then
- 13:58you know you're at least putting out effort, your body's working,
- 14:01you're breathing, and and I know since exercise is like
- 14:06one of the best, it's one of the most proven
- 14:09ways to have a healthy mind and like healthy emotions
- 14:14of that, going through that effort and facing those challenges,
- 14:17like physical challenges, it is so rewarding and so worth it.
- 14:21So I try to have something like I was much
- 14:24better about it when I like that. I go through
- 14:27times where I'm like, Okay, I'm like on this track
- 14:29and now I'm kind of off the track. It's more
- 14:31of like I'm tired of getting hurt all the time.
- 14:33I don't want to go get sweaty. But it's like
- 14:36it's a daily battle.
- 14:37Speaker 6: So when I think on that matter, but like getting
- 14:39a heart beating, Like for me, my campus is about
- 14:44a seven minute bike ride away, so I bike there
- 14:47every day for school, and just a couple of minutes,
- 14:50it's not really enough to get sweaty unless it's hot
- 14:52outside or I'm wearing a lot of jacket stuff. But
- 14:55just it's just that little bit of it's just your
- 14:58heart beats a bit more and it just brings you
- 15:00a bit of more energy. Just something small like that.
- 15:03Just you know, walk to class if you're close by
- 15:06instead of driving.
- 15:08Speaker 3: I mean, if you're forty.
- 15:09Speaker 6: Minutes away, you should get started.
- 15:12Speaker 3: You might make it before.
- 15:15Speaker 4: Break it.
- 15:16Speaker 1: I will say this in my defense, Okay, I may
- 15:19not be doing workouts, but I've been doing a test
- 15:23for the job that I work at.
- 15:24Speaker 2: And just for the sake of it since we're here.
- 15:27Speaker 3: It's a heart rate test.
- 15:29Speaker 2: It's not a heart rate test.
- 15:30Speaker 1: But I have walked five I've walked almost six miles today.
- 15:35I've taken eleven thousand steps and I do that every day.
- 15:38That's nice, and I stand for eleven hours. So in
- 15:41my defense, I still am working out.
- 15:43Speaker 4: Better than yeah, sedentary, Just like saying it, that is
- 15:46a workout. That's good.
- 15:48Speaker 6: Honestly, it's better than doing one hour workout every day
- 15:51and then doing nothing.
- 15:52Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 15:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I feel I feel good. Then, you know what.
- 15:54Speaker 1: It's like, I was selling myself short. This was just
- 15:57a test because my girlfriend was like, I think I
- 16:00talk to class.
- 16:01Speaker 2: Probably more than I walk more than you do.
- 16:02Speaker 1: And I was like, I don't think that could I
- 16:05was like, I have to stand all day. So she's like,
- 16:07all right, here, take this and I'm testing it now
- 16:09and I.
- 16:10Speaker 2: Feel good now, so I feel like accomplished.
- 16:13Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 16:13Speaker 2: I do crush off the physical every day.
- 16:15Speaker 6: Yeah, okay, I mean that's another fun thing, is like
- 16:18to not try to compare yourself with others who are
- 16:20doing better than you, and this aspect of that aspect
- 16:21of different people. Of course they'll be different.
- 16:24Speaker 2: Well, if you listen to David Goggins, it's.
- 16:25Speaker 6: Like, okay, well, there's an aspect who's gonna car the boats?
- 16:30Speaker 2: It's like, I feel like, oh you not just stand?
- 16:32Speaker 6: There is an aspect of uh, looking to people and
- 16:37having them inspire you to push yourself to what you
- 16:39can actually do. And then there's the aspect of comparing
- 16:42yourself to others in an unhealthy manner of I want
- 16:45to be like you, but I can't be like It's
- 16:48like I put it to work to be like some people,
- 16:51and you can't be like other people. You know, someone
- 16:53who is, you know, four foot two cannot run as
- 16:57fast as someone who is six foot three. It just
- 17:00physically impossible. And then there's all sorts of other amounts
- 17:03to do it, and so yeah, look to people and
- 17:05push yourself, but don't don't let yourself be consumed by
- 17:10trying to be someone your knots.
- 17:11Speaker 1: Yeah, that was a big thing for me for a
- 17:13long time, is watching like the David Goggins and these
- 17:16guys that are just animals, because it's like, I just
- 17:20I don't if I'm being honest, I just don't have
- 17:23that same real drive like I wish that I did,
- 17:26and I admire it, but it's not like I I
- 17:31just don't have that fire in me. And so it's
- 17:33like whenever I would watch those videos, it's like depressing
- 17:36because I'm like, gosh, I suck, like my life.
- 17:37Speaker 2: Sucks, like you know, no no, no, da da.
- 17:40Speaker 1: But not to point any fingers, not to start anything,
- 17:44but David Goggins has had like three divorces, Okay, So
- 17:47it's like there's different areas people are very skilled in,
- 17:50and there's a I know, I've talked to my friend
- 17:52about this writer Russell Brand talks about mentors, and I
- 17:57was like, in some areas certain people you should should
- 18:00look up to them for what they can accomplish in
- 18:02those realms, but they're a human person with all their
- 18:06own battles and all these different areas of life, and
- 18:09so it's like whether or not you measure up to
- 18:13them in that sense, You've got to remember there are
- 18:16other areas where you will have more like not to
- 18:19say that, not to say not to say I'm more
- 18:23virtuous than David Goggins or anything because I have been divorced,
- 18:26but mainly to just point out the fact that it's
- 18:30easy to get caught in the trap that they're like
- 18:32an idol and you forget that you'll have other skills
- 18:35that they aren't as specialized in that you can bring
- 18:39to the table or you can grow in. So like
- 18:41he might be able to push himself more working out
- 18:44and desire that and really value that, whereas like maybe
- 18:47I would want to I don't know, I wish there
- 18:50was something I was.
- 18:50Speaker 2: Like really good at and I could be like maybe
- 18:52this if I like making it so far fingers crossed, but.
- 18:59Speaker 1: Like I would be more passionate and I would want
- 19:01to make music, so I would want to put more
- 19:03time into that, whereas he would not see that as
- 19:05being worth it, And so I had to You have
- 19:06to make those connections otherwise you kind of just go
- 19:08around chasing whichever person you think is like the coolest
- 19:12at the moment.
- 19:13Speaker 6: There's only two humans where you can look up to
- 19:16in that way of like perfection, and there is nothing
- 19:20about them that you can really find fault with Jesus
- 19:23and Mary.
- 19:24Speaker 4: So yeah, like.
- 19:25Speaker 6: Anyone who is you know around you, it's like, yeah,
- 19:28they have all have their own faults.
- 19:30Speaker 4: You know.
- 19:30Speaker 6: Everyone has their own sins, their inclinations, their problems. Everyone
- 19:35has their own like skills, talents, awesome things going on too.
- 19:39But there's really only two humans that we could really
- 19:42consider perfect in that sense. One of them is God
- 19:46and the other is is Mother.
- 19:48Speaker 2: So yeah, that's true.
- 19:51Speaker 4: Good point.
- 19:52Speaker 2: That is nice. That is nice.
- 19:54Speaker 1: I have noticed that is like I will try to
- 19:56just focus on those aspects of Jesus. Is like, okay,
- 20:00if I if he was if he was here, what
- 20:02would he be doing as far as like I.
- 20:05Speaker 2: Mean, was Jesus running huge marathons?
- 20:09Speaker 1: It's like, okay, so you can get away with not
- 20:11having to do that.
- 20:13Speaker 4: Jesus could probably be twenty five.
- 20:15Speaker 3: He was a carpenter man. He was lugging on massive
- 20:18pieces of all.
- 20:19Speaker 2: See, he could do hard work.
- 20:20Speaker 1: I feel like that's what is that to me is
- 20:23my bare minimum is like if I can do hard
- 20:24work and I can't, Okay, So it's like physical is
- 20:28not exactly my strong suit.
- 20:29Speaker 2: Anymore, but it's like there are still ways to have.
- 20:35Speaker 1: The physical aspect of Spire isn't just to be like
- 20:38the most dominant physically, that's not the point. It's not
- 20:40to be the most attractive, the like whatever whatever. It
- 20:45is that the cult of the body is sort of
- 20:48used to directing us towards. What it really is is
- 20:53appreciating the fact that you have a body and being
- 20:55alive in it and experiencing the world. And then also
- 20:59the fact that the body is at base, uh, making
- 21:05visible the invisible mysteries of life in a sense, and
- 21:08it's kind of it's giving an insight and a face
- 21:11to your soul and it's tied in with that, and
- 21:14so that's what's so important about it. But in addition
- 21:17to that, especially with Inspire, the physical aspect is just
- 21:22being able to participate and interact with life on a level.
- 21:25That's like appreciating the gift given to you as opposed
- 21:29to just neglecting and abusing.
- 21:32Speaker 3: That's fine, neglecting abusing it what it opens It's fine, Yeah, okay,
- 21:39buzz I need to hold.
- 21:40Speaker 4: This if you like.
- 21:41Speaker 6: No, oh, okay, I thought i'd like open to a
- 21:45bigger table. Yeah, mom, dad, if you if you're watching this,
- 21:49that this is your coffee table.
- 21:51Speaker 2: Yes, well, no, it's next.
- 21:55Speaker 5: That almost sounds like some theology to body stuff, that's
- 22:00what you were trying.
- 22:00Speaker 4: To get into.
- 22:01Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean eventually, but I mean there's an aspect
- 22:04of physical where it's like, we want to take the
- 22:06time to acknowledge the sacredness of the body. But then
- 22:10also the practical is that we're human beings and we're
- 22:15here to serve, and we're here to love, and we're
- 22:16here to experience life. Walking in nature, playing with your kids,
- 22:22playing sports, competing like those are some of the best
- 22:26things in life and it all some of the most
- 22:29beautiful aspects of life come through the experience of the body.
- 22:33Speaker 2: And so.
- 22:35Speaker 1: I think that it's fair to say there is a
- 22:37sort of responsibility and duty for maintaining your body's health
- 22:44and your ability to move and to respect for it
- 22:47and not like gorging yourself on food or you know,
- 22:53the basic stuff. And it's just kind of learning the
- 22:55discipline and.
- 22:58Speaker 6: It's trying to find that's I think the point is
- 23:00it opened straight here. Well, I note this somewhere in
- 23:03Genesis talking about this aspect of caring for you yourself.
- 23:08So God bless them, and God said to them, be
- 23:09fertile and multiply fill the earth and subdue it. Have
- 23:12dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of
- 23:14the air, and all the living things that crawl in
- 23:15the earth. It's probably a better verse somewhere in the
- 23:19first couple of chapters. But the idea of having dominion
- 23:22and control. A good master is one that takes care
- 23:24of what is his and what is ours, our bodies,
- 23:30taking care of our body is literally right there in
- 23:33the first chapter of Genesis, the very beginning of the Bible.
- 23:37Speaker 3: It talks about take care of yourself. Interesting, so that's
- 23:41why you have the Bible.
- 23:43Speaker 1: Yeah, that's and I think that kind of plays into
- 23:44like what Jordan Peterson talks about when he's like cleaning
- 23:47your room and he's set your house in order before
- 23:50you go out and try to change the world. It
- 23:51does all come down to that. Oh man, there was
- 23:56something that it was. Oh, I just got it recently.
- 24:00So I was talking to someone that I know, and
- 24:06I was asking for business advice in a sense, but
- 24:09like kind of like life advice, like how would I
- 24:11how am I going to How am I supposed to
- 24:12find a good job? How am I supposed to save money?
- 24:14How am I supposed to make enough money to live?
- 24:17And he's like, what you want to do if you
- 24:20want to run your own business? One day, He's like,
- 24:23you need to first go home, sit down and go, Okay,
- 24:25what does my cash in look like? How much do
- 24:27I make? And then what are my what's my cash
- 24:29flow out look like? So what are the things I
- 24:32absolutely need to pay for? And then how much money
- 24:34do I have left over? And then knowing and tracking
- 24:37that on that scale and becoming disciplined with that.
- 24:41Speaker 2: It's the same thing that a company does.
- 24:43Speaker 1: But on a much bigger scale. And so he's like,
- 24:46if you want to have the capacity to do that
- 24:48on a bigger scale, you need the experience and the
- 24:50discipline and the understanding of what it looks like on
- 24:54a small scale. And so I think it kind of
- 24:56plays into the same thing as that is, we've been
- 24:58tasked with expanding the garden of Eden and continuing to
- 25:05explore life and explore the world, and not to bring
- 25:08things into a submission, but to order them. And I
- 25:13think having a body that we're I mean being a body,
- 25:18being a somebody, we have an also a responsibility to
- 25:22in a way care for ourselves as we would care
- 25:25for somebody else. I think we kind of get It's
- 25:27easy to sort of neglect the body as being like
- 25:30a bad thing, but it is not a bad thing.
- 25:33Speaker 4: Yeah, actually, okay, very good.
- 25:35Speaker 2: Put my foot down there.
- 25:37Speaker 5: So it's spirit Alive. A lot of people listening probably
- 25:43don't know what spirit Alive is. It's a youth conference.
- 25:46Speaker 2: Probably everyone listening knows.
- 25:48Speaker 5: There's a couple of people that I think of, like Brandon,
- 25:50people who have like followed us and stuff. Well, I
- 25:52don't know anyway, even if everybody knows, it's a youth conference, uh,
- 25:56that we all volunteer at. And at one of the meetings,
- 26:01I was talking about like wanting to do a talk,
- 26:05and it was gonna be about like that thing, that
- 26:10exact thing, and essentially what I was gonna boil it
- 26:14down to, I might do.
- 26:15Speaker 4: This in the future. Actually talking about it again makes
- 26:17me really do it.
- 26:18Speaker 3: I'll tell Maria you have to do it.
- 26:21Speaker 4: I'm probably gonna tell her so you want to have to.
- 26:25Speaker 5: Jesus gives us two commandments in New Testament. It's basically
- 26:30love God and love your neighbor as yourself. But with
- 26:34the second one, everybody is always focusing on the love
- 26:37your neighbor, which is good. Obviously you should love your neighbor,
- 26:41but it specifically says love your neighbor as yourself, and
- 26:47I feel like we neglect the second half of that
- 26:50pretty often, Yeah, because you can't really love your neighbor.
- 26:54This is something that like I've had to learn over
- 26:57the past year of my life, is like, if you
- 27:01don't love yourself, and that doesn't mean that you should
- 27:06be like obsessed with yourself, you shouldn't be like I'm
- 27:09the greatest person in the world. But if you don't
- 27:11love yourself, you can't really love anybody else because loving
- 27:15somebody else And I think we talked about like a
- 27:18definition of love last time or something, but I would
- 27:22say that another aspect of it is giving yourself over
- 27:26to that person in a way, or giving yourself up
- 27:28to God, giving yourself up to whatever. And why would
- 27:31you do that if you don't like the gift that
- 27:34you're giving them, Like if you don't think that the
- 27:36gift that you have is good enough to give away to.
- 27:38Speaker 4: Somebody, why would you interesting?
- 27:40Speaker 5: So if you if you don't love yourself, you can't
- 27:43You're not really capable of loving another person fully.
- 27:47Speaker 4: You can have kind of like a superficial level of like.
- 27:50Speaker 5: Caring for that person, but I think that true love
- 27:54requires an element of like self love, and I hate
- 27:59using that too.
- 27:59Speaker 2: Here.
- 28:00Speaker 1: Okay, so this is actually what I've been I've been
- 28:02going through this exact same thing, funny enough, in the
- 28:04last year. So what I've what I was in the
- 28:08in the mindset of is that I'm actually not like
- 28:11I don't love myself because I know better than anyone
- 28:14why I would not deserve love, and I actually deserve
- 28:16to be punished for all the things that I do
- 28:18wrong and mess up on. And so I know I
- 28:21want to love other people and that's my best, best.
- 28:23Speaker 2: Thing I want to do.
- 28:24Speaker 1: But if I have no awareness of how I'm loved,
- 28:28then I have no experience of feeling loved and accepted,
- 28:32and I have no feeling of compassion for myself and
- 28:39understanding for myself.
- 28:40Speaker 2: And my own flaws, my own humanity.
- 28:42Speaker 1: So then if I don't have that, I don't have
- 28:45anything to give because you can't give what you don't have.
- 28:48Speaker 2: And so a big thing.
- 28:49Speaker 1: That has been is not necessarily learning to love myself
- 28:52in the fact of like, man, I just love the
- 28:55fact that I keep messing up, and I love the
- 28:57fact because it's like loving those as. It's too confusing,
- 29:02and I think you can kind of get it confused
- 29:04with idolizing yourself as saying like, man, I suck, but
- 29:06I love myself anyway. It's like you kind of it's
- 29:10almost like we're confusing the word love with I excuse
- 29:14myself or I completely condone myself. It's like the reality
- 29:20is you need to know that you are loved no
- 29:22matter what, for a deeper identity than your actions, because
- 29:26you are not your actions.
- 29:28Speaker 2: And I think coming to see.
- 29:30Speaker 1: That you have value because you're a human being and
- 29:33because you have a heart and because you have a soul,
- 29:36then you can have compassion on yourself, knowing we're in
- 29:39a fallen world and there's temptations and things that you're
- 29:42inclined to that you give into because you're weak, but
- 29:45you can have compassion for yourself with which means to
- 29:48be within the passion. With passion and to sort of
- 29:53feel what they're going through their passion, and so you
- 29:55can feel that for yourself of saying, yeah, of course
- 29:58I am inclined to want this, this easy dopamine hit
- 30:02because the weight of life is pretty crushing, and you
- 30:05can have compassion for yourself in that weakness and then
- 30:08learn that you are loved and loved by God and
- 30:11that's an experience that you're supposed to emotionally feel, which
- 30:14I never thought that. I thought it was all logical
- 30:15or it's like, now God tells me I'm loved. I'm good, right,
- 30:18the Bible says I'm love. But really you have to
- 30:21learn to dive into that. Listen to our less episode
- 30:24on a prayer. That's a way to dive into it.
- 30:27It is, and to really know that you're loved, and
- 30:29then then you're able and uh oh, you're able to
- 30:37actually it overflows as opposed to being something that you're
- 30:41constantly chasing when you don't have any like you are
- 30:44not going to be able to love if you don't
- 30:47have love itself. And so until you're experiencing the love
- 30:51for who you are, deep down, your deepest self, who
- 30:54you really are, without any of the brokenness and all
- 30:57of that, which even though it's mixed all together, you
- 31:00still have that solid identity that you were loved as
- 31:02a child of God and for being the person that
- 31:05you are.
- 31:06Speaker 2: You know, and then then then you're able.
- 31:09Speaker 1: To actually go out. But you're I think you're right.
- 31:11I feel like we don't. I never really got that message.
- 31:14Like the message I got was basically, hey, you're loved,
- 31:18you're good, do not sin, don't sin, don't sin, don't sin,
- 31:24don't sin, and if you sin, you're getting punished and you've.
- 31:28Speaker 2: Cut yourself off. And it's like, okay, all right, all right,
- 31:31that's the point.
- 31:32Speaker 1: That's that's kind of how and it's you know, it's
- 31:35not not anyone's fault in particular, that's just sort of
- 31:38the way that it kind of comes off. But I
- 31:41feel like we didn't at least our generation, it didn't
- 31:44seem like we got the right communication of the message
- 31:48that you are loved and you should feel that love.
- 31:52Speaker 2: But now this new.
- 31:53Speaker 1: Generation is kind of this self love thing. It's gone
- 31:56too far to the other side where it's like there's
- 31:59no nothing wrong with you, there's nothing that needs to be.
- 32:05Speaker 2: Redirected.
- 32:07Speaker 1: You are just one hundred percent good and everyone needs
- 32:10to like you are one hundred percent.
- 32:13Speaker 2: It's really tricky because it's like you are.
- 32:16Speaker 1: You're good, You're one hundred percent good because you're a person,
- 32:19but there are there are imperfections that need that would
- 32:28better benefit you if they were redirected towards what's ultimately
- 32:33fulfilling for your heart.
- 32:34Speaker 5: I would actually say, so, I'm gonna have to flush
- 32:37this thought out as I'm saying it kind of because
- 32:40I think that's really good. But that almost goes back
- 32:44to I'm gonna try and tie it back into the
- 32:46physical thing because you were saying earlier about like David
- 32:49Goggins and you being like very different and he has
- 32:53like this intense motivation to try and be physically like
- 32:58a beast, but.
- 32:59Speaker 7: You don't have that, and you try you don't have
- 33:03That's cool, Yeah, your words man, not I think.
- 33:08Speaker 4: I think Fulton's be but like you're not.
- 33:13Speaker 5: You said, you're not like necessarily motivated to do that
- 33:17in the same way that he is, and so if
- 33:18you tried to do that, it might not be good
- 33:21for you. And like you were saying, it physically hurts
- 33:23you when you try and lift heavy or like run whatever,
- 33:27because you have these injuries, and so trying to keep
- 33:31keeps on scaring me.
- 33:33Speaker 4: Trying to push yourself to be.
- 33:36Speaker 5: David Goggins, that's going to be actually a negative thing.
- 33:40Even if his physical regimen whatever is a good example,
- 33:45you trying to push yourself in that direction might actually
- 33:48be detrimental to you.
- 33:50Speaker 2: And it was good.
- 33:51Speaker 1: It was actually good for a time because so there
- 33:54was a time where I was I wasn't really working
- 34:00now at all. I was doing some weightlifting or whatever,
- 34:02but I was at this jiu jitsu gym that some
- 34:05friends had trained at, and the coach there was like,
- 34:09because I didn't like lifting weights because I was I
- 34:12was having these like diet problems where I had inflammation.
- 34:14So it was like everything my joints all hurt really bad.
- 34:17And then I got I had a grossburg but none
- 34:20of the muscle, and so then there was all of
- 34:22these It was just like and I just was not
- 34:24patient enough.
- 34:24Speaker 4: To really go through the process slowly.
- 34:26Speaker 1: That was kind of it's all ego, you're just with friends,
- 34:28you don't really understand what's going on. But and so
- 34:31he goes quit doing all that weightlifting, just come do
- 34:34jiu jitsu and I was like, okay, I like wrestling more.
- 34:36Speaker 2: Than lifting weights.
- 34:38Speaker 1: So I started going to this gym, but it was
- 34:40like I was always nervous every time I went, and
- 34:44I did not want to go work out, and I
- 34:45was like a baby being a baby about it. And
- 34:48it was like there was a whole bunch of things
- 34:50that all played into it where it's like facing the
- 34:53uncomfortability was like miserable. But I went through a stage
- 34:57for like two or three years of my life when
- 34:59I was trying to get out of a broken spot
- 35:02that I was in, let's say, And so that's when
- 35:06I would do like cold plunges. I would go running
- 35:08in the rain, running in the cold, and I would
- 35:10go to the gym as much as I could, and
- 35:12it was really good because I had to prove to
- 35:15myself that I could face down those weaknesses and so
- 35:19it was like important for me and I did do it,
- 35:22and I know I did and I had confidence that
- 35:24I could do it, and I was like, I know
- 35:26that if I'm going to do this boxing thing, I
- 35:28should take a boxing match that I can face that fear. No,
- 35:31I can get in the ring. And so I would
- 35:32watch David Goggin's videos. I'd watch Cameron Haynes's videos all
- 35:35the time, Jordan Peterson videos, and every time I was like,
- 35:38there's no way I'm going to go to the gym today,
- 35:40It's like, yes i am, and so I'd have to
- 35:43go to the bathroom because I was nervous, and then
- 35:45I would go to the gym.
- 35:46Speaker 2: And then it was like all right, we're going to
- 35:47go through this.
- 35:48Speaker 1: And so it was really good, but it hit a
- 35:51point where it's like I was getting sick all the
- 35:54time because I was never willing to let myself rest.
- 35:57Speaker 2: I was always like, I can just keep going. I
- 35:59can just keep going.
- 36:00Speaker 1: But then I was miserable, and then I resented even
- 36:02working out, and then I resented the whole guilty feeling
- 36:04of like, now, because he's capable of doing that, and
- 36:08I know that I could go do this, then I
- 36:11actually suck. If I don't do it, then I'm double guilty,
- 36:14and then it's like great.
- 36:17Speaker 2: So I don't know exactly it's going with that, yeah, but.
- 36:21Speaker 1: I think playing into what you were saying is that
- 36:26and for other people out there, it's not to make
- 36:28an excuse of like, well, he's different.
- 36:30Speaker 2: So I'm not going to do this.
- 36:31Speaker 1: There are still certain things that every person I believe
- 36:33needs to face, and there's going to be good role
- 36:36models that you can look to in those areas, but
- 36:38that's not going to be you completely. So even though
- 36:42I idolized that ability to just suffer and endure physical stuff,
- 36:46it's like, the way it's gone, my body just doesn't
- 36:51hold up with a lot of those things for a
- 36:53bunch of different reasons, and it's not really beneficial for
- 36:56me to hold myself to a standard that.
- 36:59Speaker 2: I don't really want to meet.
- 37:00Speaker 1: I just respect, just like people who can run massive
- 37:03marathons or swims however far.
- 37:05Speaker 2: It's like or Navy seals. It's like I would love.
- 37:07Speaker 1: To be able to do that, but I just know
- 37:10I don't really want to do that, and it's okay to.
- 37:14Speaker 3: Not I want it, but I don't want it right right.
- 37:17Speaker 2: And so you still got to have a balance.
- 37:19Speaker 1: You still have to face battles as you get older
- 37:21and stuff, but it definitely doesn't have to be something
- 37:24where you're idolizing a certain physical accomplishment.
- 37:28Speaker 2: It's more about finding in your life how you.
- 37:32Speaker 1: How you can be your best self and do the
- 37:36things that interest you and enjoy life and it not
- 37:39just be a constant chase for some validation, whether it
- 37:44be from yourself or from other people. So is that
- 37:48kind of what you were trying to get at? Yeah,
- 37:50I feel like I went on a ram.
- 37:51Speaker 5: So it's fine, it's fine. That's I mean, that's basically
- 37:55what I was getting at. And just the idea that
- 37:59because I didn't want it to come across as like
- 38:00David Goggins works out a bunch and it's like, oh,
- 38:02I don't think I can do that, and so you're
- 38:04just like, oh, that's not what I'm supposed to do, because,
- 38:05like you said, everybody, there is a level where everybody's
- 38:09supposed to like you're supposed to take care of your body,
- 38:11you're supposed to try and do physical things. So it's
- 38:15not I don't think I can do this, so I'm
- 38:17just not going to because you should still push yourself.
- 38:21Speaker 2: Yeah, you should still.
- 38:22Speaker 5: Push yourself, but you should push yourself in the direction
- 38:27that you're supposed to go in, if that makes sense,
- 38:29Like you're not necessarily I don't feel like I am
- 38:32either supposed to be like a bodybuilder, so it wouldn't
- 38:35really and like you said you don't want that, So
- 38:39if you try and push yourself in that direction where
- 38:42you just feel like that's not really what you desire
- 38:44at all. And and that's different from being like, I
- 38:48don't want to go to the gym today, so I'm
- 38:50not going to or like I'm I don't want to
- 38:52go to gym to day, so I'm going to to
- 38:53make yourself uncomfortable whatever. That's a different thing because I
- 38:56know last time I said you should do uncomfortable things.
- 38:59But it's different in the sense that for some people
- 39:04it's not like physically possible to reach certain goals, so
- 39:07you shouldn't try to mirror well another person does to
- 39:12a tea because everybody is different. Everybody has different paths
- 39:17that they're supposed to go on, so it's like everybody's uh,
- 39:23everybody looks different. Everybody's body is different, and there's not
- 39:27a mold that we're all.
- 39:28Speaker 4: Supposed to fit into physically, so.
- 39:32Speaker 5: You shouldn't try and squeeze yourself into a mold that
- 39:34you're not going to fit into. Yeah, I guess that's
- 39:36kind of the direction I was trying to get at,
- 39:38but I had to flesh that out as it was.
- 39:41Speaker 6: I saying that because in something you said a bit
- 39:43ago about you know, I could do that, and so
- 39:49I feel bad when I don't.
- 39:50Speaker 3: And that's something that I think.
- 39:52Speaker 6: About a lot, right, Yeah, I know, because there's a
- 39:54lot of things I could do, and that's something I've
- 39:57been especially thinking about now going a little more off
- 40:00on my own, entering graduate school and you know, having
- 40:04my own place and all that.
- 40:05Speaker 3: There's a lot of things I could do.
- 40:07Speaker 6: I could really invest a lot of time into my
- 40:10studies and learn and be a really good physicist that
- 40:15is within some aspects of my capabilities. Maybe not as
- 40:18good as other people, but I know that's something I
- 40:20could do. I could really invest in a cool YouTube
- 40:24channel and just be a speaker in some ways, or
- 40:26that I could really invest in having conversations with people
- 40:30like this. There's so many different things that I could do.
- 40:33Or in terms of physical bodies, I'm not a small guy,
- 40:36so I could really invest and become something like a bodybuilder,
- 40:41or I could do this or that. There's so many
- 40:43different things that I could do.
- 40:45Speaker 3: I can do.
- 40:46Speaker 6: I like to think of it in this space like
- 40:47I can do anything, but I can't do everything. I mean,
- 40:52there's some things that you can't do. But like there's
- 40:55such a wide variety of things that you can do,
- 40:58but you can't just do everything, and so it's a
- 41:01level of priority, a prioritization. We talked about this last
- 41:04week or something, where you got to have a priority
- 41:07for what you want. You know, I could be a bodybuilder,
- 41:10you know, I, like I said, I'm not a small guy,
- 41:12so I probably could build up really big muscles, but
- 41:15I don't want that. You know, there's aspects that come
- 41:18with having really big muscles. You have less flexibility, you
- 41:22have this and that, and it's like that's not something
- 41:24I want. So like you're saying, I want to be capable,
- 41:27and you know, I want to be able to do
- 41:31most anything to some degree, but not necessarily to the
- 41:34hundredth degree.
- 41:36Speaker 5: In it, can we have a pause, real clicking? Can
- 41:39you check and see if the camera is still going?
- 41:40I think it probably is, but yeah, okay, sick.
- 41:47Speaker 2: Okay, So here's what I think.
- 41:48Speaker 4: I think.
- 41:49Speaker 1: I feel like I feel like this is the this
- 41:51I feel like this is the point that we were
- 41:52trying to get at.
- 41:53Speaker 2: So it started off where we talked about our.
- 41:56Speaker 1: Own physical disciplines that we do that work for us,
- 42:01and I wanted to draw a point and attention to
- 42:04the fact that it doesn't have to be like this
- 42:07is not a New Year's resolution daily plan thing. This
- 42:11is like, this is an acknowledgment that we are physical
- 42:15beings as well as spiritual beings.
- 42:19Speaker 2: Well, we're human beings.
- 42:22Speaker 1: So we have both of those aspects combined into one
- 42:25nature human nature, and so and so there's an importance
- 42:32for us to be aware of that and to not
- 42:36go too far one way of idolizing the body and
- 42:39wanting it to be perfected, or too far the other
- 42:41way of saying the body shouldn't be respected in a
- 42:47sense or that's.
- 42:48Speaker 5: Like, I mean, we said we're not going to get
- 42:50into this really, but that's kind of a gnosissism thing
- 42:52where it's like, yeah, the body and the soul are separate.
- 42:55Body bad, soul good. Don't care about the body. Whatever
- 42:59the body does is the body's fault, right, Like it's
- 43:02it's the same thing.
- 43:04Speaker 4: Yeah, it's all tied together.
- 43:06Speaker 1: Yeah, and the experience, like you like if you are
- 43:10if you have an experience of listening to music, your
- 43:13body is your You need your ears to listen to
- 43:18music and to experience that and to feel touch and
- 43:21to feel love and those emotions, and like it's all
- 43:24Your body is so important, that's who you are, and
- 43:28so what spire what the reason it's in there is
- 43:31because we get to live with our bodies. And if
- 43:36you are blessed enough to not have certain disabilities or
- 43:40things that that you you miss out on certain things,
- 43:43which that would just that is unbelievably hard. But if
- 43:46you have the gift to be able to experience life
- 43:50as a body, then there's certain things you can do
- 43:54to increase that and also maintain it and take care
- 43:59of it, like we talked about earlier. And so I
- 44:02think I just wanted to make the point that anything
- 44:10that is taking care of your physical nature is a
- 44:13good thing, and you don't have to do the most
- 44:18extreme things for them to be good things. You can
- 44:21find what works for you. Just how It's like I
- 44:23would love to be the person that's like I run
- 44:26a lot of marathons, I do all of this stuff.
- 44:28I do all this stuff, but the reality is like
- 44:30I don't, but I do, say, okay, can I do
- 44:34some pull ups? I need to make sure I can
- 44:35still do pushups. I want to be stretch, be able
- 44:39to stretch and be like mobile, and I want to
- 44:43like in my mind, I'm like, I want to be
- 44:44able to play with my kids. I want to be
- 44:45able to play sports. So it's like, am I playing
- 44:48sports with friends? Am I walking around moving? Am I
- 44:53eating healthy foods? Am I eating things that increase my
- 44:56capacity to be charitable and virtuous? Because that is taking
- 45:00care of myself because I will be happier and more
- 45:02fulfilled if I do that. And that's what the point is.
- 45:05It's to acknowledge that the physical reality taking care of
- 45:08your body, eating healthily, like those sorts of things will
- 45:13play directly into your ability to evangelize, which is the point,
- 45:17which is why we're here.
- 45:18Speaker 7: Yep, I feel like I feel like that, you know what, Yeah, okay, okay,
- 45:25that's that's why I wasn't trying to just justify why
- 45:27I don't want to do what David Goggins does.
- 45:31Speaker 2: But maybe a little though.
- 45:34Speaker 4: You don't want to carry the boats.
- 45:36Speaker 2: I don't want to carry the boats.
- 45:37Speaker 1: You can carry of the boats, but I think it's
- 45:39cool to watch videos of him carrying the boats.
- 45:44Speaker 2: I did have a question that has to do with.
- 45:49Speaker 1: Okay, so we're talking about the importance of the body
- 45:51in a certain sense, and taking care of it and
- 45:53maintaining it and loving it and knowing who you are,
- 45:56loving who you are, all of those good things. So
- 45:59I have this question that, okay, given our culture of
- 46:02the daily you know, vibes, blah blah blah, I might
- 46:04be going to do a little theology of the body here.
- 46:09Why do you think no, scratch that.
- 46:15Speaker 4: Ready for this? Probably not?
- 46:17Speaker 1: Do you love your body?
- 46:29Speaker 4: I think that depends on your definition of love?
- 46:32Speaker 5: Because then it right back, what do you mean you
- 46:37have to define? I'm gonna be Jordan Peters. I don't
- 46:40like the way the question is phrased, because what do.
- 46:42Speaker 4: You mean by you? And what do you mean by love?
- 46:46Speaker 5: And what do you mean by your and what do
- 46:47you mean by a body?
- 46:51Speaker 3: Basically we know what you mean by do No?
- 46:53Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, all right, all right, no, let me let
- 46:59me try.
- 46:59Speaker 1: Okay, do you, Michael, in a broad sense, in as
- 47:04much as you are capable of consciously acknowledging, accept, and
- 47:12cherish your physical form as it is right now?
- 47:21Speaker 4: How was that? Yeah?
- 47:23Speaker 3: I think he said, Michael. So I can't answer.
- 47:25Speaker 5: I think Jordan Peterson would answer that also, and Nick
- 47:27I forgot both Fulton question Okay, so I would say
- 47:37yes and no, but so yes in the sense that, okay,
- 47:49Theresa a little bit here. So this is another thing
- 47:52where like over the past probably a year, I've had
- 47:56a lot happened, just like I'm trying to get to
- 48:01a better place physically, mentally, spiritual, everything. So I would
- 48:05say it like all through high school, even before that,
- 48:08I freaking like hated the way I looked.
- 48:11Speaker 4: I would look in the mirror and I'm like, what the.
- 48:13Speaker 5: Heck Like, So I was like that really a long time.
- 48:24And so I guess now what I'm trying to do
- 48:28and keep on checking that. What I'm trying to do
- 48:31is get to a point where I don't feel that
- 48:33way at all anymore. And so that doesn't mean that
- 48:37all of a sudden I'm like, oh, I have these
- 48:40imperfections or like I'm physically weak or whatever.
- 48:44Speaker 4: I'm just gonna.
- 48:44Speaker 5: Accept that, like we were talking about earlier, But that
- 48:47means not looking at myself and being like like, come on, man,
- 48:55you're ugly and you're short, and you suck and everything
- 48:58about you is terrible. Because I will, like I'll admit
- 49:02I used to be like that to the point where
- 49:05in my voice and everything, to the point where probably
- 49:08a year ago, I.
- 49:09Speaker 4: Would not have done this podcast genuinely.
- 49:11Speaker 2: Because I was like, then you've come a long way.
- 49:16Speaker 4: I don't like.
- 49:17Speaker 5: Kind of bragging about that, but it does feel a
- 49:19lot like I've just I genuinely don't think I would
- 49:22have done this a year because I have to like
- 49:24speak into the mic and record my voice and I
- 49:26have my face on camera, and it's like I wouldn't
- 49:29have done that a year ago. But now I'm kind
- 49:31of getting to the point and so this is where
- 49:34I'm like, yes, but no, to the point where I'm like,
- 49:39I still have room to grow. I don't think that
- 49:42I've just plateaued and I'm like, I've accepted everything about myself, right,
- 49:47So I would always say yes but no, just to
- 49:50acknowledge that there is room for me to grow.
- 49:53Speaker 4: Still.
- 49:54Speaker 5: I don't think I'll ever reach kind of the ceiling
- 49:56of that, and I'll always like fine, Like like I
- 50:01said yesterday, I started I went to the gym for
- 50:03the first time like two months, and I'm gonna keep
- 50:06on trying to do that because I acknowledge that physically
- 50:10like I think I could be in a better place.
- 50:12I think that I could be stronger, more capable, more
- 50:16physically fit.
- 50:18Speaker 4: M hm.
- 50:19Speaker 5: So it's not that I don't love my body and
- 50:22like it sounds so weird to say these things. I
- 50:24don't like these terms, but like, it's just that I
- 50:29want to acknowledge that there's still room to improve essentially
- 50:32every action.
- 50:33Speaker 3: Can I help you out with the terms before I
- 50:34answer the question myself.
- 50:35Speaker 5: I'm really bad at like that's what I said, like
- 50:37self love or that's not what I meant, but it's
- 50:40like okay.
- 50:41Speaker 6: Now, Honestly, one of my biggest gripes with the English
- 50:43language is how we do not understand what the word
- 50:45love means. We have one word love and that needs
- 50:47so many different things. But that's the top of another time.
- 50:50But what I'm what I'm hearing is because you heard
- 50:54the word love and you like, do I think that
- 50:56I am perfect as is? And so that's when you like, yes,
- 51:00in some way that I acknowledge the good in myself,
- 51:04but knowing that I know I can do better. But
- 51:07I think what you were answering was am I content
- 51:10with who I am the in currently right now? And
- 51:16if you are fully content with who you are, you
- 51:19will never do anything to grow or become better. So
- 51:23never be content in who you are, but love who
- 51:27you are. And part of love is striving to do better.
- 51:30If a parent loves their kid, they will push them
- 51:36and they will you know, punish them when necessary, but
- 51:40like direct them towards what is good and not just
- 51:42be like, you're my kid, I love you, so go
- 51:46do whatever you want. Because kids don't know as much
- 51:49as adults do, and their parents can understand that eating
- 51:56all of that unhealthy food is not good for you,
- 51:59but the kids can necessarily do that, and so the
- 52:01aspect of love, it's not the same thing as being content. Yeah,
- 52:05and so I think you answered the question do you
- 52:07love your body with a yes? I mean those ways
- 52:10you could love it more?
- 52:11Speaker 4: But yeah, can I say something? But actually you haven't
- 52:13said anything.
- 52:14Speaker 2: Go ahead, no you okay.
- 52:15Speaker 5: So we were just talking about like with the parent
- 52:19and loving the child, and it's not just acceptance.
- 52:22Speaker 4: It's pushing people to do better.
- 52:24Speaker 5: So I was I was in the car earlier with
- 52:27my mom and I don't remember what we were talking about,
- 52:30but we got around to this point and I thought
- 52:32it was really kind of it hit on a lot
- 52:36of what you were just talking about, and it really
- 52:40is a good way of kind of tying this all together.
- 52:45I think that when it comes to being like, like
- 52:49what I was saying is like, God, why do you
- 52:52make me ugly?
- 52:53Speaker 4: Kind of thing? I think we get confused.
- 52:58Speaker 5: We confuse God the King and God the Father and
- 53:02not in the person of God the Father like the Trinity,
- 53:04but like.
- 53:07Speaker 4: God is the King, but.
- 53:10Speaker 5: We are also all children of God, and so he's
- 53:13our father, and there's two different I think people separate
- 53:17those two things when they should be combining them together.
- 53:21So a king, you know, this is the part of
- 53:25it where it's like.
- 53:25Speaker 4: I'm physically not good enough. I'm you know, I suck.
- 53:29Speaker 5: I'm ugly, I'm weak, I'm not as good as this
- 53:31other person. And a king has really really high standards
- 53:38and they want you to do everything they want you
- 53:41to do, and if you can't do the job, then
- 53:43they'll get rid of you and get somebody else. So
- 53:46and that's not just king, that's just like think about
- 53:48like a high political figure. If you can't do the job,
- 53:52then they're going to replace you with somebody else. But
- 53:56then a father is different.
- 53:58Speaker 2: It's conditional versus UNCONDI yeah.
- 54:01Speaker 4: But it's still.
- 54:03Speaker 5: God is kind of a combination of both. Because you
- 54:05have a job and he wants you to do.
- 54:09Speaker 4: You have a vocation. God has a plan for you.
- 54:11God made you for a specific purpose.
- 54:16Speaker 5: But he's not gonna be like, Okay, you filled, you
- 54:19didn't do the job. I'm gonna go get Fred to
- 54:21do it instead. Fred Fred is.
- 54:25Speaker 2: Like, here's okay. So here's my challenge to this.
- 54:29Speaker 1: So, first of all, I think when it comes to
- 54:33the physical state of the body, if you look in
- 54:41the mirror and say, if you can't look in the
- 54:49mirror and say I am content the way I am
- 54:58in the moment, in the sense of I love myself
- 55:01right now, then I think there's a problem. And if
- 55:05you look in the mirror and say I should get
- 55:08bigger muscles because I want to be better, then I
- 55:12think there's a problem because I think what we were
- 55:16still in the same trap of I will love myself win.
- 55:21So I think, no matter what you look like, you've
- 55:23got to realize there's a different game going on than
- 55:27physical prowess and stature and esthetic that there's the fact
- 55:33alone that you are somebody, no matter what you look like,
- 55:38no matter how skinny, fat, strong, weak, feeble, bald, flowing locks.
- 55:46If you are in the mindset of I am imperfect
- 55:50right now.
- 55:53Speaker 2: Physically, that to.
- 55:57Speaker 1: Me is still it's gonna leave you in a state
- 56:01of a conditional sense of acceptance or love for yourself.
- 56:04Speaker 2: And a value of the body.
- 56:06Speaker 1: Now, I think that there, once you've made that distinction,
- 56:10you can still say as far as ability to participate
- 56:16in life is like is the goal to look better
- 56:23or is the goal to be able to participate in
- 56:25life more? Because I think it's the same thing where
- 56:28it's like we're so used to seeing this King and
- 56:34father difference, where it's like the King is like, well,
- 56:37at the end of the day, you're still there's a
- 56:38job to do.
- 56:39Speaker 2: Still, it's like you either make it or you don't.
- 56:41Either do this.
- 56:41Speaker 1: But we never hear about God being conditional. It's all
- 56:46unconditional love all the way across. So the only thing
- 56:51is our participation or not, because it's going to happen anyway.
- 56:57We get to participate if that's what we choose to do,
- 57:00so that gets rid of any sort of conditional do
- 57:03this or don't do this?
- 57:04Speaker 2: You could be better, you could do this, you could
- 57:05do that.
- 57:06Speaker 1: But I think that we are so used to thinking well,
- 57:10I'm imperfect, but I could be perfect, that I have
- 57:13got to do this to be perfect. I have got
- 57:16to open my heart up enough to God to be perfect.
- 57:18It's that you're still in the same problem. So I
- 57:21feel like what you have to actually learn to do
- 57:23is reframe your whole perception of what loving and accepting
- 57:28yourself is, which is really opening yourself up in a
- 57:31vulnerable way to the love of someone who does not
- 57:36at all ever think well, you could be this, right,
- 57:41Because I feel like even though I keep my own mind,
- 57:44keeps one to say yeah, but God would say yeah.
- 57:46But you know, I see who you could become. The
- 57:49reality is it's like I see who you actually are,
- 57:53but you've put up walls, and all I want you
- 57:55to do is learn to let those all drop. And
- 57:58then once you let those all drop, it doesn't freaking
- 58:01matter what you look like. You are loved and I
- 58:04know that you're loved, and then that relationship is your
- 58:08participation in life. And so the only reason we have
- 58:11like a physical thing of like well set a physical
- 58:13goal is because it's like I know I have a
- 58:17weak nature, and I want to work with myself to
- 58:21learn and teach myself how to better participate in life.
- 58:24And my avenue within the physical realm is going to
- 58:28be going on a ten minute walk every day.
- 58:31Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying. You kind of get where
- 58:33my point is here.
- 58:34Speaker 5: Yeah, And I think, okay, so I want to clarify it,
- 58:37like I'm not I did not intend for like God
- 58:41as a king thing to be like God's love is conditional.
- 58:44That's not like the point I was trying to make.
- 58:46I think what I meant more, this is the problem
- 58:48with me having spontaneous thoughts is just like I say, no,
- 58:51this is fine thoughts. It's a good conversation.
- 58:53Speaker 4: So like.
- 58:55Speaker 5: I think more, what I was trying to get at
- 58:57is I'm trying to think of the best way to
- 59:02say this.
- 59:03Speaker 4: So there's people that I know who look at God
- 59:06and they think.
- 59:09Speaker 5: God has standards, God has rules, God has all these
- 59:12things that he wants you to live up to.
- 59:16Speaker 4: And in reality, that's it's kind of true.
- 59:21Speaker 2: And I like the way that that statement was phrased.
- 59:25Speaker 3: And we can have disagreements.
- 59:27Speaker 5: Yeah, I just like God wants you to live your
- 59:31life to the fullest. And so if you're not doing that,
- 59:35it's not that he's not gonna love you anymore. But
- 59:39I think there's still room for you to grow. But
- 59:41I think that if you ignore that, that's kind.
- 59:44Speaker 1: Of But what is living life to the fullest? Is
- 59:47it doing the most things? Or is it being the
- 59:50most open to God's.
- 59:51Speaker 2: Love for you as you are?
- 59:53Speaker 3: It is being the most who you are. Gods on
- 59:57where you are. It depends on who.
- 1:00:00Speaker 4: If you're in a bad spot, you don't want to
- 1:00:01stay where you are.
- 1:00:02Speaker 6: If you're in, say, for instance, a state of mortal sin,
- 1:00:06you know what is doing the best thing it is
- 1:00:08to overcome that, go to confession, you know, let God
- 1:00:12take that away from you. So it's not always a
- 1:00:16sense of just saying everything about me is good enough,
- 1:00:20because there are some aspects, particularly in the case of
- 1:00:23mortal sins, where there is some aspect about you that
- 1:00:27is just not good and it is good to let
- 1:00:29God take that from you.
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: That's not you, though, but that's not you.
- 1:00:34Speaker 6: But the way we're looking at it, and the way
- 1:00:36this question is being phrased, is how you interact and
- 1:00:40go through this world, which includes the walls that you
- 1:00:43put up between you and God. And so while the
- 1:00:45inemo self of who you truly are is still within you,
- 1:00:49these walls that you put up around you are part
- 1:00:51of how we interact with the world. And so when
- 1:00:53we look in the mirror and we say how do
- 1:00:56I feel about myself? We have to be looking through
- 1:00:58all of these walls because those are there, and we can't.
- 1:01:02We need to get rid of those walls to see
- 1:01:03who we truly are want to be. In which case,
- 1:01:05then we are at where you're saying with being content
- 1:01:08with who I am in the moment, but with these
- 1:01:11walls here there's the aspect of but there's things that
- 1:01:13I can do better.
- 1:01:14Speaker 5: Yeah, I think that's kind of the that's like a
- 1:01:16good you're so much better words than I am, because
- 1:01:19that's kind of like the point I was trying to
- 1:01:20get is not that you shouldn't be content with who
- 1:01:25you are, but that you do still have to acknowledge
- 1:01:28that there are the walls that you've put up that
- 1:01:30you have to take down.
- 1:01:32Speaker 4: So it's not saying.
- 1:01:35Speaker 5: I'm not good enough, I suck, I have to like
- 1:01:38be different, but it's you still do have to acknowledge
- 1:01:43if you don't like I think the problem would be
- 1:01:47when you oh my gosh, I think the problem.
- 1:01:50Speaker 4: Would come.
- 1:01:54Speaker 5: If you are content with where you are and who
- 1:01:56you are. I don't think it's a problem unless you
- 1:02:01close yourself off to the potential to be better, because
- 1:02:05I think that if you close yourself off to the
- 1:02:07potential to be better, then you'll stay where you are.
- 1:02:12I don't think I mean the fact that perfection is
- 1:02:15an impossibility for humanity to attain. So if you don't
- 1:02:20allow yourself, really, I think it's not even about acknowledging
- 1:02:24that you It's not saying I'm bad and I need
- 1:02:28to be good. It's saying I'm good, but I could
- 1:02:33be better. And there's like a level. There's levels to
- 1:02:36it where you're like, Okay, I'm.
- 1:02:37Speaker 4: Good, but I could.
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: Yeah good, Okay, so we'll not push back, but like,
- 1:02:42see if we can get to a better clarification.
- 1:02:44Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm sorry for everybody listening. This is kind of
- 1:02:47a little convoluted, but it's good.
- 1:02:49Speaker 4: Well.
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: I think it's getting to something that's reel down at
- 1:02:51the bottom, which is what is the purpose.
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: For doing physical things?
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: And I think if you look at yourself and you say,
- 1:03:05I think what my point is of being content with
- 1:03:07yourself as you are once you've opened yourself up to love,
- 1:03:11is that if you look at yourself and decide for yourself,
- 1:03:18I'm not good enough.
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: I need to do this and I'll be better.
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: I think within that very statement is you are not
- 1:03:25good enough right now for something which I would say
- 1:03:28is to know that you're loved.
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: I think that.
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: If you really knew an experience and believe that right
- 1:03:34now I am good enough to be loved as I
- 1:03:36am one hundred percent. I think the actual experience of
- 1:03:40that with God, with an openness to God, and it
- 1:03:42takes time to get there because you've got.
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: To let the walls resolve.
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: But the actual experience of that in itself and a
- 1:03:49continuation within that relationship.
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: Will do the work of getting those walls down.
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: But if you are in this mindset of once I
- 1:04:02do this, I'll get through the walls, then I think
- 1:04:07you're missing the point, and that what's more important is
- 1:04:10that you're open to love and you feel it and
- 1:04:13experience it, and you don't keep the wall there of like, well,
- 1:04:17I'm still not good enough in my eyes. You know,
- 1:04:20you have to learn that you are actually good exactly
- 1:04:23the way you are inherently, and now there's things about
- 1:04:28you that should change, but they're not. It's not your
- 1:04:33thing to change. The only thing requested of you is
- 1:04:37to open.
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: Up to love in a sense, to open up.
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: To love and to a further exploring and withdrawing out
- 1:04:45of your real identity as a child, a loved child
- 1:04:48of God. That is unconditional. And I think the actual
- 1:04:52consequences of that interaction and that relationship and that communication
- 1:05:00will do the work. We'll do the thing, we'll do
- 1:05:02the job. We'll take care of itself, which is why
- 1:05:04it's like, let God do it.
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: Don't work so much.
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: But I think we're just so used to thinking we
- 1:05:08got to take things into our own hands.
- 1:05:10Speaker 5: Yeah, okay, so I think we probably agree on this
- 1:05:14more than we disagree. I think the only clarification that
- 1:05:16I would add is that.
- 1:05:22Speaker 4: So I agree that if.
- 1:05:23Speaker 5: You open yourself up completely, then a lot of the
- 1:05:27work will start to be done kind of for you.
- 1:05:29Speaker 4: But the only problem that I have with all.
- 1:05:33Speaker 5: Of that is that it still does require human action,
- 1:05:37So you can't I think that's I don't Yeah, I
- 1:05:40don't know, I don't know.
- 1:05:41Speaker 4: Yeah, Yeah, it's a complicated day.
- 1:05:44Speaker 5: I think that it's still important to recognize that you
- 1:05:47have to put in some of the work because, like
- 1:05:50we were talking about last time, it's like choosing God,
- 1:05:53and we're talking about physical stuff right now. But if
- 1:05:55you you can open yourself up all you want, but
- 1:05:58God's not going to like put some puppets rings on
- 1:06:00you and like walk you to the gym.
- 1:06:02Speaker 4: Like if that's what it's going to take.
- 1:06:04Speaker 5: Like if you are in bad physical shape and you
- 1:06:11participating fully in life is going to require you to
- 1:06:14get in better shape. God's not going to you opening
- 1:06:18your heart to God. He's not going to walk you
- 1:06:20over the gym. You still need to put in the
- 1:06:23effort to do that, and that might be hard, and
- 1:06:26you have to acknowledge that there's that room for you
- 1:06:30to get better.
- 1:06:30Speaker 4: In that sense, so it's not saying I'm.
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: Bad, I should get better.
- 1:06:35Speaker 5: It's saying I'm already good, but there are opportunities for me.
- 1:06:40You can open yourself up more if you are completely
- 1:06:43opened up. I feel like there's nobody that's completely opened up.
- 1:06:45Speaker 6: I have an interjection here, one I do agree, you
- 1:06:48guys agree. The discussion may seem like it arguing on
- 1:06:55some small understandings of words.
- 1:06:57Speaker 3: Confusion. In that way, it's the.
- 1:06:58Speaker 6: Limitations of human language conversation. Yeah, but I want to
- 1:07:04bring in the Bible. This last Sunday we have we
- 1:07:08had a reading about the talents. I don't know if
- 1:07:11you remember this, but you know the Master gave one
- 1:07:14servant five talents, and then another servant two, and then
- 1:07:17another servant one. The first two servants invested those talents
- 1:07:21and doubled the amount they had. The last servant just
- 1:07:24hit it. And in the end, when the Master came
- 1:07:27and the first two servants like, hey, we doubled what
- 1:07:31you gave us, the mass is like, well done, come
- 1:07:34join me in my join and whatnot. And then this
- 1:07:36last servant says, I hit it. I did nothing with it.
- 1:07:39I was scared of you. I just I just didn't
- 1:07:41want to ruin anything. The mass is like, you, wicked servant.
- 1:07:47And you know, in a Bible study last week a
- 1:07:50bunch of us had there was so much talk about
- 1:07:52it because it's such a hard reading to read if
- 1:07:55you don't understand the more deep aspects of it, because
- 1:07:59it looks like really harsh on that one servant. One
- 1:08:02side note a talent was approximately fifteen years of wages
- 1:08:06of a working man, So these were not small amounts
- 1:08:08of money that the Master gave them.
- 1:08:10Speaker 4: I always thought it was like one coin or.
- 1:08:12Speaker 6: No, probably equivalent to about three million dollars for one talent.
- 1:08:21But what the whole idea about this is that the
- 1:08:24Master understood these servants. He understood their capabilities. One of
- 1:08:29them had the capabilities to do stuff with five, one
- 1:08:32of them had the capabilities to do stuff with two.
- 1:08:33One of them had the capabilities to do stuff with one.
- 1:08:36And that's not to belittle any of them for their capabilities,
- 1:08:39because at the end, if they had all done what
- 1:08:41the Master wanted to them, they would all be sharing
- 1:08:43the same reward. But you know, the first two servants
- 1:08:48took what they had and these talents. There's an English
- 1:08:51word talent that we use, where it's our skill, our talent,
- 1:08:56what we're able to do. God recognizes these talents in us,
- 1:08:59He gives them two. They are his gift, and He
- 1:09:02wants us to grow these talents and make them more
- 1:09:05such that we can produce more.
- 1:09:06Speaker 3: On this earth.
- 1:09:07Speaker 6: And if we take these talents that God gives us
- 1:09:10and just hide it away, and do nothing with it.
- 1:09:12Then we are not, you know, doing what our body
- 1:09:15is meant to do. Because our body is meant to
- 1:09:17grow and be better and to be more close to perfection.
- 1:09:21We cannot achieve perfection. That is not a human thing
- 1:09:24that we can do. It is only something that God
- 1:09:26can instill in us. But as bodies, we are able
- 1:09:30to grow and become a little more perfect, and with
- 1:09:34the grace of God, we can use that to become
- 1:09:37even more And so, you know, I think all of
- 1:09:40this is it's just really important to recognize that everything
- 1:09:45we have is a gift from God. The bodies we have,
- 1:09:49the skills and talents we have, which are different from
- 1:09:51other people's skills and talents. People have different minds, different intellects,
- 1:09:55different physical prowess, but they are all gifts. And if
- 1:09:59we view them as a gift from God. If we
- 1:10:03view all that we have as a gift from God,
- 1:10:05where He gives it to us freely and says, can
- 1:10:10you do things with this, then I believe it would
- 1:10:14be our bodily moral responsibility to take these gifts and
- 1:10:19improve upon them in our own human way through the
- 1:10:22grace of God. But we cannot forget that they are
- 1:10:27a gift from God, and that how we are now
- 1:10:30and what brought us here, God spoke to us through those.
- 1:10:34So the way we are now is good, and the
- 1:10:38way we are now is growing closer to God. And
- 1:10:42so I think a unification of these these thoughts.
- 1:10:45Speaker 4: And ideas together.
- 1:10:49Speaker 6: Well, when when you first started talking about this, my
- 1:10:51mind immediately went to tomistic simplicity. It's a big philosophical
- 1:10:55topic about the nature of God. But the way I
- 1:11:01would just describe it in short, because I don't want
- 1:11:03to get into philosophical details right now.
- 1:11:06Speaker 3: God's mercy is his justice.
- 1:11:09Speaker 6: God's justice is his love on earth. We have these
- 1:11:13different ways of explaining different aspects of God, but in God,
- 1:11:17there is no differentiation between these things. They are all
- 1:11:21perfectly unified. And so all of this is perfectly connected
- 1:11:26in God, but we cannot fully understand that. So we
- 1:11:29have these delineations that we then can argue about which
- 1:11:32one's better, which one's worth it, They're all the same. Anyway,
- 1:11:38That was my philosophical ordeal.
- 1:11:40Speaker 2: Hmmm, that was really good.
- 1:11:44Speaker 4: So I think we're both right. I agree, that's kind
- 1:11:48I think we're both kind of hit on different aspects.
- 1:11:50Of it, because I do think.
- 1:11:53Speaker 5: That it is still important to recognize you have to
- 1:11:56open yourself up and that's where the growth will come from.
- 1:12:00But once you open yourself up, it still requires action.
- 1:12:04So I think kind of that was a good way
- 1:12:05of bringing it all together because I think we both
- 1:12:07hit on different aspects of that.
- 1:12:11Speaker 4: That was super interesting.
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: Okay, really okay, well said, well said okay.
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: So so then two for my own understanding, I think
- 1:12:23a way that I've thought about it in the past
- 1:12:24is that the physical reality in a way is a
- 1:12:28representation of the spiritual reality. So in the same way
- 1:12:32you have to die to yourself spiritually to open up
- 1:12:35to love and the experience of life, I think that
- 1:12:38you also have to die physically. And both of that
- 1:12:40requires effort and human action. And so dying to yourself
- 1:12:45physically would be to discipline the body, like Saint Paul says,
- 1:12:49I disciplined the body and whatever and fast and all
- 1:12:51that stuff. And so maybe instead of thinking, there's probably
- 1:12:57tied into both of those, like a motivation if I
- 1:12:59do want to have more confidence be able to like
- 1:13:01look in there and be proud of hard work put in.
- 1:13:03And there's an aspect of seeing yourself look bigger and
- 1:13:06all that stuff. But then also what plays into that,
- 1:13:10as long as you're able to have the self awareness
- 1:13:12is that you will have to die to yourself and
- 1:13:15your desire to sit the accounch potato to go outside
- 1:13:18and run. But it will be better for you and
- 1:13:20more meaningful in the long run, no pun intended. And
- 1:13:25so I think I see what you're saying more. The
- 1:13:28only thing I'm really after is like the trap that
- 1:13:32I've fallen into is seen seeing myself and seeing my
- 1:13:36body as could be better because look at how other
- 1:13:41people are better, And that's what I don't want.
- 1:13:44Speaker 2: Because what I do want is that.
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: I could die more to myself and this is the
- 1:13:49route that I'll do it, and these people.
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: Model a way to do that.
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: But it's about the death of yourself to get down
- 1:13:58to the root of who you are opposed to. I
- 1:14:00will add on to myselves things so I feel more
- 1:14:04secure in the existential crushing weight of life's harsh reality.
- 1:14:08That's the only thing that I'm like that was really
- 1:14:11what I was pushing for. So that's why I think
- 1:14:13we do totally agree. I just wanted to be more
- 1:14:15specific about the words. So that when people are thinking
- 1:14:18about it, it's not when I'm thinking about it. It's
- 1:14:20not like, Okay, once I achieve, or I need to
- 1:14:23go out and achieve, or I need to be perfect.
- 1:14:25It's more of I need to let more things go.
- 1:14:28But what that looks like will require action, which may
- 1:14:30involve going out and doing an action that could be
- 1:14:34confused for trying to add on more technology.
- 1:14:37Speaker 4: Yes, okay, so I don't.
- 1:14:41Speaker 5: I need to get better about saying the right words,
- 1:14:43because like I one hundred percent agree with that, and
- 1:14:45I think if I was the only person, I think
- 1:14:50this is kind of what I was getting out earlier
- 1:14:52with like getting to a certain point where you feel
- 1:14:54more comfortable and stuff. Not in the sense of feeling
- 1:14:57more comfortable in relation to other people, but if I
- 1:14:59was the only person in the entire.
- 1:15:02Speaker 4: World, there's still you still want.
- 1:15:05Speaker 5: To push yourself to be the best, like we keep
- 1:15:09on talking about, like be the best version of you
- 1:15:11that you can be.
- 1:15:12Speaker 4: So it's not.
- 1:15:14Speaker 5: I think, actually the real growth comes when you are
- 1:15:17able to separate that from growing because of other people,
- 1:15:21Because if you're doing it just to be if you
- 1:15:23see David Goggins and you're like I want to be
- 1:15:26ripped because I want David Goggins to like my Instagram posts. Yeah,
- 1:15:29Like that's different from saying I want to get better
- 1:15:35because if I get better, that will help me to
- 1:15:38be the best version of myself everybody else. So I
- 1:15:42think the whole time, I think we've kind of been
- 1:15:44like tripping over words and stuff.
- 1:15:46Speaker 4: I should have been like more clear about what I
- 1:15:48meant by that.
- 1:15:49Speaker 5: But I do think that because I agree with one
- 1:15:51hundred percent, I think we kind of agree overall.
- 1:15:55Speaker 4: We just need to be more clear than what we're saying.
- 1:15:57Speaker 6: One aspect of this I think is we all agree,
- 1:16:00but all different people and we view things differently, And
- 1:16:03so an important thing to get out of this is
- 1:16:05that if you look into your own life, there are
- 1:16:08different ways of explaining and understanding things that might turn
- 1:16:11to you better. Maybe this aspect of complete surrender of self,
- 1:16:17just the complete giving up of self is the best
- 1:16:21way for you to think about it to grow, or
- 1:16:23maybe in some ways it's like maybe I do need
- 1:16:24to push myself and push a little more, And it's
- 1:16:26it's in the ways in which we interact with our
- 1:16:28own body that is that is individual to who we
- 1:16:30are interesting and so like, you guys are very different people,
- 1:16:34and I think that's beautiful that we saw that.
- 1:16:37Speaker 3: And I realized they never actually answered your question, but yeah,
- 1:16:43I feel like, yeah, okay, Well else, the.
- 1:16:48Speaker 6: Question was that you had asked, probably a long time ago,
- 1:16:51was do you love your body? And I think just
- 1:16:54I'll say a little bit about this on my side too,
- 1:16:58I think help explain the difference between people. As you
- 1:17:00were saying, it's like when you were younger, you looked
- 1:17:03in the mirrors, like I kind of hate this. I
- 1:17:05never really had problems with that. My insecurities light not
- 1:17:08within my body but in my relationships with people, and
- 1:17:11so in high school and whatnot, I just really didn't
- 1:17:15care about how I looked. And maybe it wasn't an
- 1:17:19unhealthy way, where it's just I just didn't care, and
- 1:17:24you should care about who you are. And so there's
- 1:17:27that aspects of different ways of looking at it. And
- 1:17:30then I've realized that some of this not caring was
- 1:17:34me hearing things like you don't want to be prideful.
- 1:17:37Pride is a great sin, and so I would like
- 1:17:41physically throw away anything that could be prideful. But you
- 1:17:47can be proud of stuff without being prideful. And so
- 1:17:51there's aspects of I didn't try to look good because
- 1:17:54if I tried to look good, then I felt like
- 1:17:56I would take pride, take pride in that, and have
- 1:18:00that consume me. And in different times it's been like,
- 1:18:04I know it's capable of consuming me. So at different
- 1:18:08times in my life. You know, last week you probably
- 1:18:10saw my hair was crazy. It's like in some aspects
- 1:18:13is like I don't want to try so hard to
- 1:18:15look nice because I feel like if I do, then
- 1:18:18that will be all that I am. But at the
- 1:18:21same time, I was not letting myself be you know,
- 1:18:26like if I let myself go down a hill just
- 1:18:30because I'm not wanting to look nice, it's still good
- 1:18:34to look nice.
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: Yeah, because the body is still beauty is still an
- 1:18:39aspect of God, and you can participate in that esthetic pleasingness,
- 1:18:44and you almost have a responsibility to take care and
- 1:18:46bring order to your own presentation and the beauty of
- 1:18:50the human body, just like artists do when they like
- 1:18:52Michelangelo and all those guys, they're showing you the beauty
- 1:18:55of the human body.
- 1:18:56Speaker 2: So there is a.
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: Sort of there is an air of headed towards perfection
- 1:19:02that the body represents and so and you also have
- 1:19:05a personal role in that too.
- 1:19:07Speaker 2: And what plays into that especially, I.
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: Think for guys, is just knowing that you can face
- 1:19:13physical challenges and there's like scars or growth and size
- 1:19:17and all that stuff that play into that sort of
- 1:19:21journey against and that fight against weakness and the desire
- 1:19:24for comfort that the Christian life itself and the spiritual
- 1:19:28life itself calls you to.
- 1:19:31Speaker 2: To battle in the same way, but in the spiritual realm.
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: And so I feel like that's probably what I wasn't
- 1:19:37really thinking about as much.
- 1:19:40Speaker 2: So that was good.
- 1:19:41Speaker 6: That was this was conversation growing so much because all
- 1:19:46of you guys are talking such amazing things and making
- 1:19:48amazing like leaps of faith and leaps of understanding, and
- 1:19:55like you were saying, it's like I wish I could
- 1:19:56have said this better. You couldn't have said it better
- 1:19:57at the time because you didn't understand it as much
- 1:19:59as you didn't.
- 1:19:59Speaker 3: Now that's true, And.
- 1:20:01Speaker 6: So don't like beat yourself up saying I should have
- 1:20:03said it better. I should have said you couldn't have
- 1:20:04said it better, because like it took this discussion and
- 1:20:09this community of people to truly understand ourselves better.
- 1:20:16Speaker 4: Yeah, that's a really good point.
- 1:20:22Speaker 2: Okay, so let's we'll bring it back. We'll bring it
- 1:20:25to a close here.
- 1:20:26Speaker 4: Because so we.
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: Started off with talking about the basic physical aspect of spire,
- 1:20:32how we all do it, why we do it. We
- 1:20:33didn't spend a lot of time on that because I
- 1:20:35think the point of these podcasts it's very obvious we're
- 1:20:38all going to have a basic stuff that we do
- 1:20:43that that we exercise our physical however we do it
- 1:20:49personally because like we said, we're all different people. We
- 1:20:51are in different stages of life, facing different challenges, after
- 1:20:55different things, with different goals. So the best we can
- 1:20:58do is give you short exams for the sake of
- 1:21:00the podcast, obviously, the best we could do for whoever's
- 1:21:03listening outside of just us having our conversation, which is
- 1:21:06another big as part of the reason why we even
- 1:21:09started the podcast is to almost forced conversations. Is take
- 1:21:16the brief examples that we give as inspiration for your
- 1:21:19own thing. But at the end of the day, the
- 1:21:21point of this is for if this is valuable to
- 1:21:24you or in some ways of interest, is for you
- 1:21:26to take this Spire acronym and then apply it to
- 1:21:29your own life. And we're delving into each acronym and
- 1:21:32we're trying to share our perspective on what.
- 1:21:34Speaker 2: It means and what it is, so it's not just.
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: A real basic Hey do something physical and it's kind
- 1:21:43of up near. We kind of want to give like
- 1:21:45our reasons behind it, what it means to us, sort
- 1:21:48of the spiritual foundation of it as well as just
- 1:21:52the practical stuff, which is why I think I was
- 1:21:55fine with and why I enjoyed getting into more of
- 1:21:58like the reasons behind our motivations for doing physical things,
- 1:22:02the way we view it, how we view it, how
- 1:22:03the world might view it, and how we're trying to
- 1:22:05learn to grow and get closer to who we really
- 1:22:09are as opposed to sort of the wise that the
- 1:22:12world feeds us of. You need to look perfectly sexy
- 1:22:15and be so strong and have muscles and do these
- 1:22:18hard tasks, otherwise you're just a you know, wooss and
- 1:22:21all of this crap that just is like it's just
- 1:22:25a battle between idols, and we're trying to cut through
- 1:22:28that keep the value of what it is to be
- 1:22:30a human being, a person who's striving and still have discipline,
- 1:22:34physical discipline, physical health, which is massively important because that
- 1:22:39is maintaining the vehicle that carries us through life.
- 1:22:43Speaker 2: And so that's why we got into it. That's why
- 1:22:46we hope it was a value.
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: It was definitely value to me because I loved it
- 1:22:49really interesting getting into Like the specifics are really important
- 1:22:53because we're scratching not only.
- 1:22:55Speaker 2: At just like the physical stuff, but it's at the whole.
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: Point of what Spire is meant to do, which is
- 1:23:00get us closer to who we really are. And it's
- 1:23:03like a practical plan because we can always say, and
- 1:23:06of course I'm guilty of myself.
- 1:23:07Speaker 4: It's like, the more.
- 1:23:07Speaker 2: You open up to the love of God, the better
- 1:23:09your life is going to be.
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: But it's really hard to do that, and it does
- 1:23:13require human action and it does require something to do,
- 1:23:16and you have to have a certain observation that you
- 1:23:18are here and you could be here, and there's a
- 1:23:20better thing here and you're reaching and striving for that,
- 1:23:23but you're also good here in the moment, and that's
- 1:23:26where God is. And it's a really tricky thing to balance.
- 1:23:30It's a paradoxical thing, but that's what the tension of
- 1:23:33life is built on that, and spire is just meant
- 1:23:36to be a sort of stability of like you are
- 1:23:38here and you are also going there.
- 1:23:40Speaker 2: Yeah, you know what I'm saying.
- 1:23:42Speaker 6: And there is there is purpose, you have purpose, there
- 1:23:46is a point.
- 1:23:48Speaker 3: So let that.
- 1:23:51Speaker 6: Yeah, there's a there's a point like the spire. Yeah,
- 1:23:55let's let that thinking that you have a purpose and
- 1:24:00you are accomplishing that purpose right now, and you can
- 1:24:03strive better, sure, but you are accomplishing some aspect of
- 1:24:06your purpose right now, some aspect of your goal, and
- 1:24:09that God is loving you. Yes, yeah, And when it
- 1:24:14comes to aspire. I think something that I'm coming to
- 1:24:17appreciate is how interconnected everything are. You notice how much
- 1:24:20we've talked about the spiritual side of things, the intellectual
- 1:24:23side of things, the relational side of things, and the
- 1:24:24evangelical side of things while we're focusing on the physical
- 1:24:27side of things. All of these are so intricate, intricately
- 1:24:30connected that I find it beautiful. But you can still aspect,
- 1:24:35get at the details of just one of them, and
- 1:24:37you can grow through that.
- 1:24:38Speaker 2: So grow sweet, Okay, So then we'll call it there.
- 1:24:44Speaker 3: Oh, it's fine, it's fine.
- 1:24:46Speaker 6: Okay, next week we have intellectual that's right, SPI, Yeah, intellectual.
- 1:24:52So we'll talk about the mind and stuff. I don't
- 1:24:56know what we're talking about yet, but yeah, do you
- 1:24:58want to close this in prayer?
- 1:25:00Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: Okay, Father Son, Holy Spirit, and Jesus, thank you for
- 1:25:08a fun conversation.
- 1:25:11Speaker 2: With good guys.
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: Thank you for the time here, Thanks for keeping us
- 1:25:15and holding us and being We hope that it had
- 1:25:20some sort of positive impact in the world and in
- 1:25:23our hearts. We pray for everybody that's listening to that
- 1:25:28whatever God, whatever you wanted them to see or to hear,
- 1:25:32that they gained it or they didn't, and whatever you
- 1:25:37wanted to have happened happened. And we just thank you
- 1:25:41for the chance to even be able to sit and
- 1:25:43freely talk about things that are of interest to us
- 1:25:46and that are important to our hearts. So bring us
- 1:25:50back here safely next week for the next episode, and
- 1:25:56help us to come to know you and to know
- 1:25:57ourselves all the more.
- 1:25:58Speaker 4: Amen.
- 1:25:59Speaker 3: Amen, MH.
- 1:26:02Speaker 5: Happy Thanksgiving, Happy thanks Giving. Everybody happy, up on Happy Thanksgiving.
- 1:26:08Speaker 2: It's gonna be up on happy It's not.
- 1:26:11Speaker 5: It's gonna be happy Thanksgiving on the holiday, all right, Okay?
- 1:26:26Speaker 6: M
