- 0:10Speaker 1: Welcome to the Favorites presented by Draftings.
- 0:12Speaker 2: The Crown is yours.
- 0:14Speaker 1: We are an Action Network podcast and I have apparently
- 0:17Speaker 1: been talking too much so far in the year twenty
- 0:20Speaker 1: twenty six. I'm your host, Brandon Kravitz, back at it
- 0:23Speaker 1: with partials of the crew. The first lady of the pod,
- 0:26Speaker 1: Kenja Middleton. We could not drag the Prime Minister of
- 0:29Speaker 1: Dgen Nation, Stucky out of his March Madness celebrations, A
- 0:36Speaker 1: Christmas like day for our friends Stucky. I have put
- 0:40Speaker 1: something together for the occasion, but no surprise here. I
- 0:44Speaker 1: woke up genuinely happy. Not just because it's NCAA tournament
- 0:48Speaker 1: time and this is such a fun time of the year,
- 0:51Speaker 1: but Stucky, being one of our besties and the third
- 0:54Speaker 1: leg of this pod, I just know how much this
- 0:58Speaker 1: day means to him. He left out bourbon and cookies
- 1:02Speaker 1: for the March Madness Gods. Very happy for our brother.
- 1:06Speaker 3: I am very happy for him as well.
- 1:08Speaker 4: I probably would have left them out for j Billis,
- 1:11Speaker 4: but that's just me.
- 1:13Speaker 1: So I have curated Hendra Middleton's tweets about the tournament,
- 1:20Speaker 1: some retweets, but the theme is the same. I want
- 1:24Speaker 1: to read some of these and then get your explanation.
- 1:28Speaker 2: You can just go. I'll just go one by one.
- 1:31Speaker 1: So and says shout out to all the teachers who
- 1:33Speaker 1: will let their students watch March Madness during class. I
- 1:36Speaker 1: don't remember much of what I learned, but I will
- 1:39Speaker 1: always remember the teachers who let me watch the tournament.
- 1:42Speaker 4: Yes, I will always, always always remember Missus Robinson shout
- 1:47Speaker 4: out my goat.
- 1:48Speaker 3: I feel like.
- 1:49Speaker 4: Whenever they would roll out the TV was just because
- 1:51Speaker 4: they were hungover, but it wasn't often. I feel like
- 1:55Speaker 4: there were teachers who actually cared about the tournament, so
- 1:58Speaker 4: when you had one, it was very special.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, for sure. It was people who like.
- 2:03Speaker 3: The sports schools, I feel like they cared.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Or people that well, I don't know.
- 2:08Speaker 1: In my school, my experience was more so it was
- 2:11Speaker 1: the teacher that wanted to be the fun teacher, or
- 2:13Speaker 1: one that didn't actually concern themselves with teaching anything. I
- 2:16Speaker 1: think they were just collecting a check and they would
- 2:18Speaker 1: just roll the they would roll the big TV thing
- 2:22Speaker 1: out there. It was a marketing class, I think it was.
- 2:25Speaker 1: I don't remember a single thing that I learned, but
- 2:27Speaker 1: I remember watching the Tyson Holyfield fight in a marketing
- 2:30Speaker 1: class and a lot of march madness for sure.
- 2:34Speaker 2: All right, next one, I was.
- 2:35Speaker 3: Gonna say something traumatizing, but we can move on.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Is it about biting years off?
- 2:40Speaker 3: No, I was gonna say, I don't know. I mean,
- 2:42Speaker 3: I know why I thought of this.
- 2:44Speaker 4: But one of my dad's favorite stories to tell me
- 2:46Speaker 4: when I was a kid was that he remembers going
- 2:47Speaker 4: outside because we live he grew up in Jacksonville, obviously,
- 2:51Speaker 4: and it's so close to like some of the NASA
- 2:53Speaker 4: stuff that he remembers, like his teacher pulling him outside
- 2:56Speaker 4: and then watching the challenger blow up.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Yeah, that'll stick with you.
- 3:02Speaker 1: This one here says before we do this, a not
- 3:05Speaker 1: so friendly a reminder that you get one bracket and
- 3:08Speaker 1: one bracket only nobody gives a fuck about how your
- 3:11Speaker 1: thirteenth bracket is doing.
- 3:14Speaker 3: Yes, I stand on that.
- 3:16Speaker 4: I got so many, like twenty seven bracket haters in
- 3:20Speaker 4: my comments calling me the bracket police. But obviously you're
- 3:24Speaker 4: the more brackets you build, the more accurate one of
- 3:26Speaker 4: them is going to be.
- 3:27Speaker 3: And it's like, if you build that many, I don't.
- 3:29Speaker 4: Care how your best bracket is doing because you didn't
- 3:32Speaker 4: stand on business and I don't respect people who don't
- 3:35Speaker 4: stand on business.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm with you one thousand percent. I think you
- 3:39Speaker 1: can build as many brackets as you want, but you
- 3:41Speaker 1: can only talk about one.
- 3:43Speaker 2: There's just that one that you marry yourself to.
- 3:46Speaker 1: I'm still catching shit, by the way, you're talking about
- 3:49Speaker 1: my bracket mistresses off the beaten path.
- 3:52Speaker 2: Slightly because it is the time of the year.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Uh, Eastern candy is the most elite candy holiday. I
- 3:59Speaker 1: will die on this. Hell, what are you talking about?
- 4:02Speaker 1: How do you I'm going to disrespect Halloween like.
- 4:05Speaker 4: This because Halloween doesn't have like anything really special. You
- 4:08Speaker 4: can't tell me that the eases reesar Reese's Easter eggs
- 4:12Speaker 4: don't taste better than the normal ones. We get the
- 4:14Speaker 4: Cadbury eggs. You get the starbars jelly beans, which I'm
- 4:17Speaker 4: allergic to now. And it is the biggest downfall of
- 4:20Speaker 4: my entire life.
- 4:21Speaker 2: I just want so much.
- 4:22Speaker 1: I just want you to know that if you say
- 4:24Speaker 1: the word peep, I will end the podcast.
- 4:27Speaker 3: No, I hate peeps.
- 4:28Speaker 4: They're disgusting, disgusting, but I will say I know that
- 4:34Speaker 4: I think about it, would would consider a peep's.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Some moore and it would be a colorful s'more on
- 4:42Speaker 1: top of that. But I do think that peeps perhaps
- 4:45Speaker 1: are a gift from the hells.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Uh.
- 4:48Speaker 1: This one was a meme that you shared how it
- 4:51Speaker 1: feels to post your bracket on the internet. I showed
- 4:53Speaker 1: you my trash. Please respond with a nice cute picture
- 4:57Speaker 1: of a possum. That is how it feels like it
- 5:00Speaker 1: almost feels for us that are in the sports media,
- 5:03Speaker 1: especially like there's this obligatory need to share your bracket,
- 5:09Speaker 1: like it's almost like a requirement of the jet and
- 5:14Speaker 1: it's it doesn't even matter if you're a college basketball person.
- 5:17Speaker 1: In fact, I think it's more important to share it
- 5:20Speaker 1: if you're not, just so people can see what those
- 5:23Speaker 1: who swoop in like Spider Man chasing a mugger, like
- 5:27Speaker 1: what we all think this time of year.
- 5:30Speaker 4: I had a top one hundred bracket in twenty fifteen,
- 5:32Speaker 4: and I'll never.
- 5:34Speaker 3: Ride that high high again. Your kid has McNeese, right, yees?
- 5:38Speaker 2: So I actually I tweeted it wrong.
- 5:40Speaker 1: I had to think, thank you for to Elon for
- 5:43Speaker 1: allowing us to edit these things now because I.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Originally wrote Furman.
- 5:47Speaker 1: He does have Furman winning in Round one against Yukon
- 5:53Speaker 1: but then had usf dusting Furman in the next round
- 5:57Speaker 1: or no, that was actually into the sweet sixteam.
- 5:59Speaker 2: Well, he's got firm been winning a couple that's why.
- 6:01Speaker 3: What was the logic here? Was there any so?
- 6:04Speaker 2: Mind you, he's six.
- 6:05Speaker 1: This is the first time that we have filled out
- 6:07Speaker 1: a bracket, uh, and I, and he was very excited
- 6:12Speaker 1: to do So. The issue is is that keeping a
- 6:15Speaker 1: six year old's attention to fill out filling out a
- 6:19Speaker 1: bracket is time consuming and it's overwhelming. And I got
- 6:24Speaker 1: through about four matchups before he started to walk away
- 6:28Speaker 1: and was completely disinterested. But I know that he's going
- 6:31Speaker 1: to want to keep track of this, so I tried
- 6:33Speaker 1: to bring him back, bring him back to center here.
- 6:36Speaker 1: And so I told him, is he just started picking
- 6:40Speaker 1: the higher nut where the lower numbers. I said, yeah,
- 6:43Speaker 1: one is really good, sixteen is really bad. So he
- 6:46Speaker 1: just started picking the better team. I said, you're gonna
- 6:49Speaker 1: want to pick some upsets in there, because not all
- 6:51Speaker 1: the better team isn't always going to win. So he said, okay,
- 6:54Speaker 1: I'm gonna pick six bad teams. Okay, So then he
- 6:57Speaker 1: just went in a row the next six higher seeded
- 7:04Speaker 1: teams or lower seated teams. I always fucked that up.
- 7:07Speaker 1: He just picked them straight down the board, so it
- 7:09Speaker 1: went like North Dakota State Furman McNeice, Troy penn All
- 7:14Speaker 1: pushed through. So the left side of his bracket is
- 7:18Speaker 1: gonna be a disaster. Now, the right side much more chalky.
- 7:21Speaker 1: But what we wound up with was a final four
- 7:25Speaker 1: of South Florida McNeice, BYU and Texas Tech. I think
- 7:31Speaker 1: he might be the only person on the planet with
- 7:34Speaker 1: that final four.
- 7:35Speaker 2: We shall see. Way said, it's a crab shoot.
- 7:38Speaker 4: The way you described it reminds me of Monsters, Inc.
- 7:42Speaker 4: When Sully is like throwing pieces of cheerios at Boo
- 7:47Speaker 4: to get her to do stuff.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Yes, exactly exactly that. I was like, all right, let's
- 7:54Speaker 1: just let's just focus. And this would have been such
- 7:58Speaker 1: good social media content. At least you would think that
- 8:00Speaker 1: putting a bracket together with a six year old, my
- 8:02Speaker 1: kid's cute. Those six year olds, are it? You would
- 8:06Speaker 1: think that this would make for really good video content.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Not so much.
- 8:11Speaker 1: This would have been a disaster. It was more of
- 8:14Speaker 1: a struggle than it was adorable. So this one's just
- 8:17Speaker 1: gonna live in my overy bank.
- 8:19Speaker 4: You know, usually I tweeted this as well. The girlfriends
- 8:22Speaker 4: who make a bracket against our boyfriend and pick based
- 8:25Speaker 4: off of colors and mascots usually kick ass.
- 8:27Speaker 2: So who's to.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Say, yeah, exactly, My wife kicks my ass all the time.
- 8:32Speaker 1: All right, Well, we have a great guess to get too.
- 8:34Speaker 1: I'm excited about this one. Before we get to Ted
- 8:38Speaker 1: Winn for some NFL film analysis, we have a quick
- 8:43Speaker 1: message to get to.

- 9:12Speaker 2: The crown is yours back to the National Football League.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Well we do best, and what this man does best,
- 9:19Speaker 1: he's Ted Winn from the Athletic Ted also the host
- 9:23Speaker 1: of the Just win podcast, as you guess a Raiders pod.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Excited to chop it up, Ted, I love your work,
- 9:30Speaker 1: welcome to the show.
- 9:31Speaker 5: Appreciate it, and excited to talk.
- 9:34Speaker 1: So let's start in Vegas. The Raiders have had quite
- 9:37Speaker 1: the busy offseason, potentially the most significant move still to
- 9:42Speaker 1: come in the NFL Draft. What have you thought so
- 9:44Speaker 1: far about their bevy of moves to improve around what
- 9:49Speaker 1: we assume to be a Fernando Mendoza led team.
- 9:53Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, I think for the first time in
- 9:55Speaker 6: a long time, I really feel positively about the direction
- 10:00Speaker 6: the Raiders are going, starting with hiring Clint Kubiak, who
- 10:04Speaker 6: I thought was probably the second best candidate. I really
- 10:07Speaker 6: like Jesse Minter, but every time the Raiders hired a
- 10:10Speaker 6: head coach you really had to like Squint to try
- 10:13Speaker 6: to be positive about it because it was this guys
- 10:16Speaker 6: that not a lot of people wanted. So I think
- 10:19Speaker 6: for the first time, you know, being able to hire
- 10:21Speaker 6: the hottest offensive play caller in the cycle was big.
- 10:26Speaker 6: They had a ton of money they had to spend
- 10:27Speaker 6: because that they had cap space, and they had to
- 10:30Speaker 6: reach a certain spending floor just because they didn't have
- 10:33Speaker 6: enough good players to pay so they had to hit
- 10:36Speaker 6: that spending floor. I thought they did a good job
- 10:39Speaker 6: of adding players that they needed, like Tyler Lindenbaum, even
- 10:43Speaker 6: though he reset it, that reset the center market by
- 10:46Speaker 6: a large Martin margin. I look at him more as
- 10:50Speaker 6: just like an interior, a ligneman and the highest paid guard.
- 10:52Speaker 6: He is getting paid twenty four mil per year. He's
- 10:55Speaker 6: getting paid twenty seven mil per year. So you look
- 10:57Speaker 6: at it like that. It's not as big of a
- 10:59Speaker 6: jump as people are making out to be. And I
- 11:02Speaker 6: think just having that center and somebody to set protections
- 11:05Speaker 6: and things like that is going to do wonders.
- 11:07Speaker 5: For Fernando Mendoza.
- 11:08Speaker 6: They added a couple pieces on defense like quick Kay Walker,
- 11:12Speaker 6: Nikobe Dean, So I don't know if this is a
- 11:15Speaker 6: I don't think this is a playoff team all of
- 11:16Speaker 6: a sudden, But I like that they added young players
- 11:20Speaker 6: and a very solid foundation, and they're ready for Fernando
- 11:23Speaker 6: Mendoza to come in. I think they have the tools
- 11:26Speaker 6: to support him.
- 11:27Speaker 4: The biggest story of the offseason has obviously been this.
- 11:30Speaker 3: Max Crosby situation.
- 11:32Speaker 4: What were what was your initial reaction and how do
- 11:34Speaker 4: you feel about it? Since everything has kind of cooled
- 11:37Speaker 4: down and you've had some time to think about it.
- 11:39Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, I think the Raiders never wanted to
- 11:42Speaker 6: trade Max Crosby. I think Crosby made his request to
- 11:47Speaker 6: get traded privately. They kept it under wraps. They didn't
- 11:51Speaker 6: he didn't come out and say I wanted to get traded,
- 11:54Speaker 6: but it was something that the Raiders never really wants
- 11:56Speaker 6: to do, and they were only going to do it
- 12:00Speaker 6: they got two first round draft picks. The Baltimore Ravens
- 12:03Speaker 6: were the first team to offer two first round picks.
- 12:06Speaker 6: That trade got agreed on, and then some weird things
- 12:12Speaker 6: happen and like for some reason, stuff like this only happens.
- 12:16Speaker 5: To the Raiders.
- 12:17Speaker 6: You know, I've never seen a trade of this magnitude
- 12:20Speaker 6: get rescinded, and it just felt like the Ravens had
- 12:24Speaker 6: cold feet. Max Crosby talked about it on his podcast.
- 12:28Speaker 6: How when he got there, they flew h him two
- 12:31Speaker 6: hours away on a normal plane, not a private jet,
- 12:35Speaker 6: and he had to drive two hours to get to Baltimore.
- 12:39Speaker 6: The GM didn't stay hi to him for five hours.
- 12:41Speaker 6: He had a cold introduction to Jesse Minter, and then
- 12:45Speaker 6: all of a sudden they told him they weren't going
- 12:46Speaker 6: to do the trade, so it just felt like they
- 12:49Speaker 6: got cold feet knowing that they get Trey Hendrickson and
- 12:52Speaker 6: then not having to trade those two first round picks away.
- 12:56Speaker 5: But for the Raiders, it's not a bad thing.
- 12:58Speaker 6: I mean, you know, you get one of the best
- 13:00Speaker 6: edge rushers in the league to add to all the
- 13:03Speaker 6: new pieces you add on defense. And I think Crosby
- 13:05Speaker 6: is just a fantastic leader for a rebuild because he's
- 13:09Speaker 6: worked so hard. He sets that culture floor every single day.
- 13:13Speaker 1: It seems like Raiders fans went through the Sorry Kendra,
- 13:17Speaker 1: all the stages of grief throughout that that Max Crosby deal,
- 13:22Speaker 1: Like they were sad to see him go, and they
- 13:24Speaker 1: were excited about the picks, and then then the picks
- 13:27Speaker 1: get taken away. Where are Raider fans on all of this,
- 13:31Speaker 1: because this is a weird part in the rebuild. Yes,
- 13:34Speaker 1: it's exciting to have Max Crosby still in the roster,
- 13:36Speaker 1: but him leaving was gonna help expedite.
- 13:39Speaker 2: What they're trying to do in the future.
- 13:41Speaker 5: Yeah, for sure.
- 13:42Speaker 6: I mean they originally they were in denial after that
- 13:46Speaker 6: Jake Laser report during the Super Bowl that Crosby was
- 13:49Speaker 6: done with the Raiders, and then and then they learned
- 13:53Speaker 6: that they could get two first round picks, so they
- 13:56Speaker 6: get excited about it. And then you know, it just
- 14:00Speaker 6: felt like this was the right move to make at
- 14:02Speaker 6: that time, and then that huge news drop just happened
- 14:07Speaker 6: in the middle. I think it was a Thursday where
- 14:09Speaker 6: the trade got rescinded and then Crosby comes back, and
- 14:12Speaker 6: then you're still not sure does Crosby still get traded
- 14:15Speaker 6: after this happened. But then Crosby makes the announcement that
- 14:18Speaker 6: he's all in with the Raiders, and I think most fans.
- 14:20Speaker 5: Are are good with it.
- 14:22Speaker 6: I mean, you know, he's an iconic Raider, and to
- 14:25Speaker 6: have him in the rebuild it is not It's not
- 14:27Speaker 6: a bad.
- 14:27Speaker 5: Thing for sure.
- 14:29Speaker 3: Do you think he's definitely going to be a Raider
- 14:30Speaker 3: next season?
- 14:33Speaker 6: I would say you should never say never, but it
- 14:37Speaker 6: seems like it's head in that direction. I think if
- 14:40Speaker 6: a team comes out and offers the Raiders two first
- 14:43Speaker 6: round picks because they're really desperate for an edge rusher,
- 14:47Speaker 6: I think it'd be tempting for them to pull the trigger.
- 14:50Speaker 6: But just based on the comments from spy Tech and Kubiak,
- 14:54Speaker 6: it seems like they want him to be a part
- 14:56Speaker 6: of this rebuild.
- 14:58Speaker 1: All right, let's talk about the number one overall pick,
- 15:00Speaker 1: Fernando Mendoza. What have you learned about him as you've
- 15:02Speaker 1: dissected the film? This is your specialty, his elite traits,
- 15:06Speaker 1: the things that are perhaps things that make him someone
- 15:10Speaker 1: that in a more loaded class, he wouldn't be the
- 15:13Speaker 1: number one overall pick.
- 15:14Speaker 2: What do you see when you look at the Mendoza film.
- 15:17Speaker 6: Yeah, when I broke down the Mendoza film, I saw
- 15:21Speaker 6: a different quarterback that I thought I was going to see.
- 15:24Speaker 6: To me, he's even more traitsy than I thought. You know,
- 15:27Speaker 6: I think when you first hear about Mendoza, you think
- 15:31Speaker 6: he's just like this really cerebral quarterback that's pro ready.
- 15:35Speaker 6: But when you watch him, he has a much stronger
- 15:37Speaker 6: arm than people think. It's not like in that Josh
- 15:39Speaker 6: Allen tier, but he's a tier right below it. He
- 15:42Speaker 6: can make all the throws. He's an excellent deep ball
- 15:45Speaker 6: throw over, extremely accurate. But I think there is some
- 15:49Speaker 6: development that he needs to needs to make in the league.
- 15:54Speaker 6: Part of the reason why, you know, I think there's
- 15:56Speaker 6: some hesitation. There's some throws that you want to see
- 15:59Speaker 6: him rip that he just didn't quite do at Indiana
- 16:03Speaker 6: in the beginning of the season, but he.
- 16:04Speaker 5: Did get much better as a season progressed.
- 16:06Speaker 6: And I did talk to his quarterback coach, Tyson Chandler Whitmer,
- 16:11Speaker 6: who is now the Buccaneers quarterbacks coach, but he said,
- 16:15Speaker 6: you know, he was learning a new offense going from
- 16:17Speaker 6: cal to Indiana. They were reteaching him footwork, reteaching him
- 16:21Speaker 6: how to replays. So it took a little bit of
- 16:24Speaker 6: time and you could see that progression happen during the
- 16:26Speaker 6: season in but there's still times that we could to
- 16:30Speaker 6: hold onto the ball. So to me, I think Mendoza
- 16:33Speaker 6: is a more trait cy quarterback than people give him
- 16:36Speaker 6: credit for. But he has a little bit development to go.
- 16:39Speaker 6: But I do think he's worthy of a number one pick.
- 16:42Speaker 6: I think if he was in last year's draft, he
- 16:44Speaker 6: would be one A, one B with cam Ward, depending
- 16:47Speaker 6: on what scheme you want to run. If he was
- 16:50Speaker 6: in a year before that, with Caleb Williams and those guys,
- 16:53Speaker 6: I would say he would be number four after Caleb Williams,
- 16:57Speaker 6: Drake May and Jaden Daniels. But I still think he's
- 17:02Speaker 6: a strong prospect, and the Raiders will be glad to
- 17:05Speaker 6: be able to draft number one.
- 17:08Speaker 1: Our main role on this show is to deliver Betts
- 17:11Speaker 1: every single week of the NFL season. Prior to the
- 17:15Speaker 1: season starting looking at the win totals market, so we're
- 17:17Speaker 1: very focused on what's next and not Bernando Mendoza being
- 17:21Speaker 1: good three years from now doesn't really do our listeners
- 17:24Speaker 1: any good. Do you think that he can be a
- 17:27Speaker 1: rock solid quarterback year one based on the infrastructure that
- 17:30Speaker 1: they have around him and what you have seen when
- 17:32Speaker 1: you've watched his film. I know it's a tough question
- 17:35Speaker 1: to answer because they're so volatile with these rookies, but
- 17:38Speaker 1: do you see somebody that can step in and have
- 17:41Speaker 1: success right away?
- 17:44Speaker 6: Actually, Tom Brady has talked a ton about believing that
- 17:50Speaker 6: a rookie quarterback should sit in his first year, and
- 17:54Speaker 6: then John Spytek at the Combine said the same thing.
- 17:57Speaker 6: So I really don't think that he's going to play
- 18:00Speaker 6: right away. But teams say this all the time and
- 18:03Speaker 6: end up starting that number one pick eventually. But I
- 18:06Speaker 6: do believe that they are going to be intentional in
- 18:09Speaker 6: trying to get a veteran quarterback to start right off
- 18:12Speaker 6: the bat and maybe at some point Mendoza takes over,
- 18:16Speaker 6: maybe after the bye week, But I think if they
- 18:20Speaker 6: could have it their way, they would have him sit
- 18:23Speaker 6: the entire his entire rookie year, and I think Kirk
- 18:26Speaker 6: Cousins or Joe Flacco would be that bridge quarterback. But
- 18:31Speaker 6: I wouldn't be surprised if Mendoza doesn't play until late
- 18:34Speaker 6: in the year.
- 18:35Speaker 4: I want to piggyback off of the upcoming rookie quarterback class.
- 18:39Speaker 4: What have you seen from ty Simpson's film and who
- 18:41Speaker 4: do you think might be the best or most realistic
- 18:44Speaker 4: fit for him?
- 18:46Speaker 6: Yeah, I think with Ty Simpson, if you watch his
- 18:49Speaker 6: first eight games, he looks like a first round quarterback.
- 18:52Speaker 6: Made a lot of aggressive, really highly accurate throws playing
- 18:56Speaker 6: in a pro style type of system. But they're are
- 19:00Speaker 6: a couple of huge red flags. The red one red
- 19:03Speaker 6: flag being he doesn't have a ton of experience, only
- 19:05Speaker 6: fifteen games fifteen starts in his college career, and as
- 19:09Speaker 6: we've seen, college prospects with that little experience have struggled
- 19:15Speaker 6: coming into the league. And typically when you have a
- 19:18Speaker 6: prospect with that little experience, they have these really high
- 19:21Speaker 6: end traits that you're willing to bet on. But Ty
- 19:23Speaker 6: Simpson is not that he doesn't have that elite arm.
- 19:26Speaker 6: He's not a super mobile quarterback. Also, his size is
- 19:30Speaker 6: a big concern too. He's six two hundred and fifteen
- 19:32Speaker 6: pounds and in the last twenty years, there's only been
- 19:36Speaker 6: six quarterbacks that have started over forty games at that size,
- 19:40Speaker 6: and that number includes Drew brees Kyler, Murray.
- 19:45Speaker 5: Bryce Young, who you know who.
- 19:47Speaker 6: Size is a concern in this league still, So those
- 19:51Speaker 6: are those are two big red flags. And the fact
- 19:53Speaker 6: that his play really tailed off towards the end of
- 19:56Speaker 6: the year was a concern as well. So see him
- 20:00Speaker 6: more as a second third round pick. But I think
- 20:04Speaker 6: an excellent place for him to be what would be
- 20:07Speaker 6: the Cardinals. I think that offense really fits his skill set.
- 20:11Speaker 6: Maybe with the Rams that they want to sit him
- 20:13Speaker 6: and let him play behind Matthew Stafford and give him
- 20:15Speaker 6: a chance to take over after Stafford retires.
- 20:18Speaker 4: So they Kravit said, we're a gambling show, obviously, and
- 20:21Speaker 4: I loved Garrett nass Meyer heading into last year that
- 20:23Speaker 4: obviously didn't turn.
- 20:24Speaker 3: Out so well.
- 20:25Speaker 4: But with so few quarterbacks and good quarterbacks at that
- 20:27Speaker 4: could you see him moving up just due to demand,
- 20:29Speaker 4: kind of like Jackson Dart last year.
- 20:32Speaker 5: I really liked Nesmyer too.
- 20:34Speaker 6: I think this year you kind of have to just
- 20:36Speaker 6: throw that out of memory banks because of the injuries.
- 20:39Speaker 6: But he really reminded everybody how good he is at
- 20:42Speaker 6: the Senior Bowl. He looked like, by far the best
- 20:44Speaker 6: quarterback there. Showed off those traits that really got him
- 20:47Speaker 6: a lot of first round buzz the year before. So
- 20:51Speaker 6: I could see, you know, like I honestly would draft
- 20:54Speaker 6: him over Ty Simpson.
- 20:56Speaker 1: Wow.
- 20:57Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean I really liked him year before.
- 21:01Speaker 1: This year.
- 21:02Speaker 6: You know, obviously there was injuries and there was questions
- 21:05Speaker 6: when he did play that I just felt like, you know,
- 21:08Speaker 6: the injuries were too much to overcome. But I like
- 21:11Speaker 6: what he offers a lot. He's an aggressive thrower, you know.
- 21:14Speaker 6: He again he doesn't have an elite arm, but I
- 21:16Speaker 6: think he has a pretty good arm.
- 21:18Speaker 5: So I like Nusamar.
- 21:22Speaker 1: Is there anybody else that you have fallen in love
- 21:25Speaker 1: with the Carson Becks of the world. Is there somebody
- 21:28Speaker 1: else that you would trumpet like you are with nuss Meyer.
- 21:33Speaker 6: You know, I haven't dug that far into the other
- 21:36Speaker 6: quarterbacks yet. I've only seen my top three so far,
- 21:40Speaker 6: so I'll have to get back to you with that answer.
- 21:44Speaker 1: So we we broke down the news. By the way,
- 21:47Speaker 1: cash the ticket, I'm about to mention the Dolphins. The
- 21:51Speaker 1: Broncos gave up a first round pick and a third
- 21:54Speaker 1: round pick in order to bring in Jalen Waddle. The
- 21:56Speaker 1: Dolphins continue their reb old on the fly. Let's talk
- 22:02Speaker 1: about this from a Broncos angle. How good of a
- 22:04Speaker 1: scheme fit is this for Sean Payton? What did you
- 22:06Speaker 1: think of the move?
- 22:08Speaker 5: I loved it.
- 22:08Speaker 6: For the Broncos, I feel like this this is time
- 22:11Speaker 6: to go all in. Bo Nicks showed signs of becoming
- 22:15Speaker 6: that franchise quarterback, so this is a great time to
- 22:18Speaker 6: get him another receiver. Corton Sutton is that big X
- 22:21Speaker 6: receiver that is. I guess it's arguable arguable whether he's
- 22:28Speaker 6: a true number one or not, but I feel like
- 22:30Speaker 6: pairing up with Waddell, who's a deep threat, who's a
- 22:33Speaker 6: great yak guy, really compliments his game really well and
- 22:38Speaker 6: he runs a lot of the same routes that Sean
- 22:40Speaker 6: Payton's likes to call. So I love this fit and
- 22:43Speaker 6: I think it really takes the Broncos to another level.
- 22:46Speaker 5: I think their off season was.
- 22:47Speaker 6: A little bit disappointing up to this point, but when
- 22:50Speaker 6: you add in this big swing, I think it really
- 22:54Speaker 6: puts them into championship contention.
- 22:57Speaker 4: I cover the Patriots up here in Boston, and the A. J.
- 23:00Speaker 4: Brown love up here has spread like wildfire. Do you
- 23:03Speaker 4: think that the Wattle trade kind of changed the market
- 23:05Speaker 4: a bit of what the expectation should be to get
- 23:07Speaker 4: AJ Brown on a team.
- 23:10Speaker 6: I mean, I think that it definitely reinforced what the
- 23:15Speaker 6: Eagles wanted. I think the Eagles wanted a first round
- 23:17Speaker 6: and second round pick for Jalen Wattle, and maybe some
- 23:22Speaker 6: teams were trying to negotiate around that.
- 23:25Speaker 5: But once Wattle.
- 23:26Speaker 6: Went for a first and a third, I think the Eagles,
- 23:30Speaker 6: you know, it justified the Eagles asking price even more.
- 23:33Speaker 6: Like you know, if Wattle went for that, A J.
- 23:35Speaker 6: Brown to me is a tier above Wattle, you know.
- 23:39Speaker 6: I think for the Patriots, I think it makes sense
- 23:43Speaker 6: for them to get this type of move. I mean,
- 23:45Speaker 6: they went to the Super Bowl last year in Drake
- 23:49Speaker 6: May's second year as a pro, and if you and
- 23:52Speaker 6: he really didn't have a really elite weapon on offense
- 23:55Speaker 6: to help him out and when you add aj Brown
- 23:57Speaker 6: to this offense, or if they add a J Brown offense,
- 24:01Speaker 6: it just takes them to another level.
- 24:03Speaker 1: We've had some debate as to whether or not this
- 24:05Speaker 1: Mike Evans move for the San Francisco forty nine ers
- 24:08Speaker 1: was a positive one for them.
- 24:10Speaker 2: He's a big name.
- 24:11Speaker 1: He's put together a Hall of Fame level career, but
- 24:14Speaker 1: we finally saw him not get to that one thousand
- 24:16Speaker 1: yard mark due to injuries. Injuries are always the thing
- 24:20Speaker 1: that plagues the San Francisco forty nine ers, whether that's
- 24:23Speaker 1: just happenstance or power plant, whatever it is, that is
- 24:27Speaker 1: a problem. He's aging, but he's still great when he's
- 24:30Speaker 1: at his best. Do you like this move for him
- 24:33Speaker 1: to end his career somewhere else and for the San
- 24:35Speaker 1: Francisco forty nine ers, Yeah.
- 24:38Speaker 5: I mean, on paper, I love this move.
- 24:41Speaker 6: The Niners in the last three years faced the highest
- 24:44Speaker 6: percentage of loaded boxes in the league because that run
- 24:48Speaker 6: games of dangerous.
- 24:49Speaker 5: They took a bit of a step.
- 24:50Speaker 6: Back last year, but Kyle Shanahan won of the best
- 24:54Speaker 6: run game schemers in the league. Chrisian McCaffrey still a
- 24:57Speaker 6: very dangerous running back, so teams want to stop them,
- 25:00Speaker 6: and when you add Mike Evans to this, you can't
- 25:03Speaker 6: load the box as much as you want to against
- 25:05Speaker 6: the Niners because he's still very good at punishing one
- 25:08Speaker 6: on one coverage. To me, this is similar to what
- 25:12Speaker 6: DeVante Adams did for the Rams last year. You know
- 25:15Speaker 6: where you can't play him one on one or else
- 25:17Speaker 6: you get burned. I think he adds a lot to
- 25:20Speaker 6: their red zone offense, and I think they struggled at
- 25:23Speaker 6: times in a red zone last year, so I like
- 25:26Speaker 6: this move. But yeah, you're right, injuries are concerned. That
- 25:30Speaker 6: hamstring has always kind of bothered him, so we will
- 25:33Speaker 6: see if you can stay in the field. But I
- 25:35Speaker 6: think with the Niners you could say that about a
- 25:37Speaker 6: lot of their players.
- 25:38Speaker 5: So I think if things.
- 25:39Speaker 6: All break in the right direction, then they could be
- 25:42Speaker 6: a dangerous team.
- 25:43Speaker 5: But I like this move on paper.
- 25:46Speaker 4: Speaking of this kind of wide receiver craziness, what was
- 25:49Speaker 4: your reaction to the Alec piercedel.
- 25:52Speaker 5: It's a lot of money.
- 25:53Speaker 6: I mean I thought it was going to be somewhere
- 25:57Speaker 6: near thirty million dollars, but still when you see that
- 25:59Speaker 6: deal get done, it is a lot of money for
- 26:02Speaker 6: a receiver that.
- 26:05Speaker 5: I wouldn't say.
- 26:06Speaker 6: He's a one trick pony, but he is. His ability
- 26:11Speaker 6: to get deep is the main way he wins.
- 26:14Speaker 5: But he did at a high level. He hit a
- 26:16Speaker 5: thousand yard season.
- 26:17Speaker 6: A lot of teams are trying to bid for him,
- 26:20Speaker 6: but I do think there's another level to his game
- 26:22Speaker 6: that he can take. And obviously the Colts field that
- 26:25Speaker 6: way too. They're betting on him growing into a better
- 26:28Speaker 6: all around receiver. But he was in demand and he
- 26:32Speaker 6: you know, he's able to stay home, so is.
- 26:34Speaker 2: A win win.
- 26:36Speaker 1: Kyler Murray went to the land where quarterback careers are
- 26:40Speaker 1: rebuilt as Kevin O'Connell. It's either Sean McVay or it's KOC.
- 26:44Speaker 1: What'd you think of the move for Kyler Murray? Do
- 26:46Speaker 1: you think this can work? And how happy is Justin
- 26:49Speaker 1: Jefferson today that he doesn't have to catch passes from
- 26:51Speaker 1: JJ McCarthy.
- 26:53Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, I love this move.
- 26:55Speaker 6: I think Justin Jefferson is probably a static I think
- 26:58Speaker 6: last year he was a team player, you know, kept
- 27:01Speaker 6: his head down, didn't complain about all the bad passes
- 27:05Speaker 6: that were being thrown his way or passes that weren't
- 27:07Speaker 6: being thrown his way. But I think this is one
- 27:11Speaker 6: of the most impactful signings of this whole offseason. I
- 27:14Speaker 6: mean to get Kyler Murray for the veteran minimum into
- 27:18Speaker 6: a team that, you know, almost made the playoffs with
- 27:21Speaker 6: one of the worst quarterbacks in the league last season,
- 27:25Speaker 6: and it's kind of confused.
- 27:27Speaker 5: I get Kyler.
- 27:28Speaker 6: Murray didn't live up to the number one pick expectations,
- 27:33Speaker 6: but people talk about him like he sucks, but like
- 27:37Speaker 6: he's at least been above average quarterback for a long time,
- 27:41Speaker 6: and you know, he can make all the throws. And
- 27:44Speaker 6: when you watch this film, a lot of the plays
- 27:47Speaker 6: that he's good at executing in the past game are
- 27:50Speaker 6: a lot of the plays that Kevin O'Connell likes to call.
- 27:52Speaker 6: And yeah, he scrambles a lot more than any quarterback
- 27:55Speaker 6: Cam O'Connell has had, but he.
- 27:57Speaker 5: Throws a great deep ball. He could hit those.
- 28:00Speaker 6: Big crossing routes. He's one of the best corner route
- 28:04Speaker 6: the rowers in the league. And O'Connell loves to throw
- 28:07Speaker 6: those smash concepts.
- 28:08Speaker 5: So I see this.
- 28:09Speaker 6: As a really nice fit, and you know, I think
- 28:12Speaker 6: it's one of the more impactful signings of the entire offseason.
- 28:17Speaker 4: I have a two part question for you. So, as
- 28:20Speaker 4: Kravitz mentioned, he's a Dolphins fan. I was born and
- 28:22Speaker 4: raised in Jacksonville, Florida, so I'm a diehard Jags fan.
- 28:25Speaker 4: There's been some rumors going around that Devon a change
- 28:27Speaker 4: might be on the market, especially in a trade with Jacksonville.
- 28:30Speaker 3: How do you feel about that?
- 28:31Speaker 4: And additionally, the ETN coming out saying the a Chan thing,
- 28:35Speaker 4: so the Chan a Chan replacement. Do you think that
- 28:38Speaker 4: it should be on the player to kind of correct
- 28:41Speaker 4: the media with their names or do you think that
- 28:44Speaker 4: the media should have more responsibility in that. I know
- 28:46Speaker 4: that that's a crazy two part question, but they go
- 28:48Speaker 4: hand in hand with the Age Tan potential replacement.
- 28:53Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 28:54Speaker 6: I'm actually terrible with names, and I'll like look up
- 28:58Speaker 6: a name and try to get the pronunciation right before
- 29:00Speaker 6: like doing a podcast or things like that, but I'll
- 29:03Speaker 6: inevitably mess up. So I would say that there is
- 29:07Speaker 6: responsiblit from the media to get it right. And I'm like,
- 29:11Speaker 6: you know, that's one of my huge sticking points that
- 29:13Speaker 6: I'm trying to get better at. But there are some
- 29:17Speaker 6: names that you just won't know how to pronounce correctly
- 29:20Speaker 6: unless the player comes out and lets you know. So
- 29:23Speaker 6: I think for players that have those type of names,
- 29:27Speaker 6: they should go out and let everybody know how to
- 29:30Speaker 6: pronounce their name so people don't mispronounce a name for
- 29:33Speaker 6: you know, three four years straight until they finally get
- 29:35Speaker 6: it correct.
- 29:38Speaker 2: Is we need to know this information when you're a rookie.
- 29:41Speaker 1: I don't think you can change the pronounces exactly of
- 29:43Speaker 1: your name after your rookie season.
- 29:46Speaker 6: Yeah, and and my name actually, you know, people get
- 29:48Speaker 6: get it wrong a lot.
- 29:49Speaker 5: People think it's no when, but it's actually pronounced when.
- 29:52Speaker 6: But yeah, you know, people think I should rename my
- 29:57Speaker 6: podcast it just Win Podcasts, just so people could get
- 30:01Speaker 6: that pronunciation down.
- 30:02Speaker 5: It's kind of clever.
- 30:03Speaker 6: But you know, I think there's been just too much
- 30:05Speaker 6: branding at this point. But yeah, back to a Chan
- 30:08Speaker 6: to Jacksonville. I mean, if they get that trade done,
- 30:11Speaker 6: I mean that's huge. I think Tuton has some potential
- 30:17Speaker 6: and I liked him a lot last year. Explosive running back,
- 30:20Speaker 6: but I mean a chance is like he's one of
- 30:23Speaker 6: the best in the league. Adds a whole another dynamic
- 30:26Speaker 6: to that to that running game, and he's also a
- 30:29Speaker 6: great receiver. And I love what Liam Cohen does as
- 30:33Speaker 6: the offensive coordinator, and he would be extremely productive in
- 30:37Speaker 6: that system. But I don't know what you would give
- 30:40Speaker 6: up to him, give up for him. I mean, I
- 30:42Speaker 6: would think the Dolphins would want a first round pick,
- 30:46Speaker 6: but that's expensive aspect.
- 30:48Speaker 3: Running back when they just gave up Etn.
- 30:51Speaker 6: For But but maybe I don't know, maybe they could
- 30:55Speaker 6: offer BTJ in a trade and make a package, create
- 30:59Speaker 6: a package that way.
- 31:00Speaker 4: Not Conj's not going anywhere.
- 31:04Speaker 2: I kind of like this. I like where Ted's going
- 31:06Speaker 2: with this.
- 31:07Speaker 3: J's not going anywhere.
- 31:09Speaker 6: I heard from a good source that Jacksonville did offer
- 31:12Speaker 6: BTGA in a package for Max Crosby.
- 31:15Speaker 4: Though I did hear that as well, and that's the
- 31:17Speaker 4: only thing that I'm okay with. But basically what I've
- 31:21Speaker 4: heard is just at this point, unless it's an offer
- 31:24Speaker 4: that really blows them away because of the way he
- 31:27Speaker 4: finished out the second half of the season, there's there's
- 31:30Speaker 4: it's really not gonna happen.
- 31:31Speaker 3: But what do I know. I don't know about fuck.
- 31:33Speaker 1: Okay, Hey, Ted, let's finish where we started. The Max
- 31:38Speaker 1: Crosby deal that went sideways. He's back with the Raiders. Well,
- 31:42Speaker 1: the Ravens still got an elite edge rusher in Trey Hendrickson.
- 31:46Speaker 1: Do you think they made out like bandits in this
- 31:49Speaker 1: where they didn't need to give out up those that
- 31:52Speaker 1: draft capital and still got an elite edge rusher. Do
- 31:55Speaker 1: you see enough of a difference between Crosby and Hendrickson
- 31:59Speaker 1: where if the Ravens goals to win a Super Bowl
- 32:02Speaker 1: and they lost the optimal potential to do that by
- 32:05Speaker 1: not having the better player, how do you see that
- 32:07Speaker 1: the differentiation between Crosby and Hendrickson with the picks included.
- 32:12Speaker 6: Of course, Yeah, The funny thing is they gave Hendrickson
- 32:15Speaker 6: the exact same contract that Max Crosby got, which adds
- 32:19Speaker 6: a little smoke to that fire too. But Trey Hendrickson
- 32:22Speaker 6: is a better pure pass rusher than Max Crosby, but
- 32:28Speaker 6: he is a legitimately bad run defender, whereas Max Crosby
- 32:33Speaker 6: is one of the best run defending edges in the league.
- 32:36Speaker 6: And to run that jesse Mentor system where you're gonna
- 32:39Speaker 6: play a ton of too high, you need defensive linemen
- 32:43Speaker 6: that could defend the run because you're not putting that
- 32:46Speaker 6: extra safety in the box. And that's why Max Crosby
- 32:48Speaker 6: was so valuable to mentor. But since you're not gonna
- 32:51Speaker 6: have that with Hendrickson, who is a negative in run defense,
- 32:56Speaker 6: they're gonna have to find other defense of linemen that
- 33:01Speaker 6: can hold up against the run, especially that second edge position.
- 33:05Speaker 6: Maybe they signed Clowney who was a raven before, who
- 33:09Speaker 6: is still a very good run defender, but they're going
- 33:11Speaker 6: to have to find other defenders that can play that
- 33:14Speaker 6: light box because Hendrickson is not that guy.
- 33:16Speaker 2: High Ted Winn.
