- 0:09Speaker 1: Hello again everyone, Welcome to Inside the Birds. It's the
- 0:12Speaker 1: A team again. Adam Kaplan and that man right there,
- 0:15Speaker 1: Andrew de Checo, fresh coming back from the Eagles Ravens
- 0:20Speaker 1: preseason game Saturday evening. Andrew, good to see you.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Did you see you?
- 0:23Speaker 1: Adam?
- 0:24Speaker 2: A lot to get into.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Yep, that's right. And a big week for the Eagles.
- 0:28Speaker 1: It's kind of a short week for them in terms
- 0:29Speaker 1: of how much they're going to practice. They'll practice today,
- 0:34Speaker 1: walk through tomorrow, and then they will be in New England. Yes,
- 0:37Speaker 1: you and I should be up there. I know you
- 0:38Speaker 1: will be. I should be up there for the practices
- 0:41Speaker 1: late Wednesday and Thursday morning, walk through Friday, and the
- 0:45Speaker 1: game seven pm in New England in Gillette Stadium at
- 0:49Speaker 1: seven o'clock. So Andrew, let's get back to it. Let's
- 0:52Speaker 1: get on this, this Eagles Ravens game. So you were
- 0:54Speaker 1: at that game, Sit in the press box, Sit in
- 0:56Speaker 1: the press box. You always have a good view, always
- 0:59Speaker 1: have a good I should say usually you do.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I was gonna say usually unless.
- 1:03Speaker 1: You're in Washington and where it's not very good. But
- 1:06Speaker 1: were you're up? Ninety five is short drive for Philly,
- 1:08Speaker 1: less than two hours. So, Andrew, what were your thoughts
- 1:11Speaker 1: overall on this performance from the football team.
- 1:14Speaker 2: Well, there wasn't a lot to really like. It wasn't
- 1:17Speaker 2: aesthetically pleasing by any means. I thought the quarterback two
- 1:20Speaker 2: competition between Andy Dalton and Tanner McKee left a lot
- 1:24Speaker 2: to be desired going into it. It was pretty even,
- 1:28Speaker 2: I would say, Adam, but maybe you give the slight
- 1:31Speaker 2: edge to Andy Dalton just for being the veteran who's
- 1:34Speaker 2: shown a little bit more consistency. But neither quarterback was
- 1:36Speaker 2: able to get anything going. The receiver depth I think
- 1:40Speaker 2: was questionable. And then on the defensive side, I thought
- 1:44Speaker 2: that there were some encouraging pieces, whether you're looking at
- 1:47Speaker 2: it from a defensive line standpoint a linebacker standpoint, because
- 1:50Speaker 2: I thought Trotter Junior did a phenomenal job in that game,
- 1:54Speaker 2: at least that's how it looked on initial view. But
- 1:56Speaker 2: in the secondary I still have questions when it comes
- 1:58Speaker 2: to depth. So there's a lot of questions that I
- 2:01Speaker 2: have that maybe were remained unanswered coming out of that game.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree with you, all right, So let's get
- 2:06Speaker 1: let's get started on an offense. So this is how
- 2:08Speaker 1: the offense looked. They came out in twelve personnel. Darius Cooper,
- 2:11Speaker 1: who played a ton by the way with Hollywood Brown
- 2:15Speaker 1: and he don't started the game. Kyk Bixby was the
- 2:18Speaker 1: starting running back left right on the offensive line, Fred Johnson,
- 2:22Speaker 1: John Ojoku, Willie Lampia that got the start at center,
- 2:25Speaker 1: Drew Kennell continuing to guard. He started right guard, and
- 2:28Speaker 1: Mark kel Bellis expected started at right tackle. The two
- 2:32Speaker 1: tight ends neither are very good blockers. In fact, Andrew,
- 2:35Speaker 1: this surprised me that they came out. I know, it's
- 2:38Speaker 1: only the first play of the game. That's what starting means.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Means nothing else, technically, It's just who came out on
- 2:43Speaker 1: the first snap of the game. Grant Kalcutarra and Eli
- 2:46Speaker 1: Stowers if you're trying to establish the run. Not exactly
- 2:51Speaker 1: what I thought. But Andrew, as you know, Johnny Munt
- 2:55Speaker 1: healthy scratch because they didn't need to plan. They kind
- 2:57Speaker 1: of know who he is. He's a number two quarter,
- 2:59Speaker 1: he's number two tight.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Yeah, and that's been pretty evident throughout training camp. He's
- 3:04Speaker 2: been getting the lion's share of those reps. Whenever they're
- 3:07Speaker 2: going into twelve personnel, they don't throw them the football
- 3:10Speaker 2: a lot, but when they do, he catches it and
- 3:12Speaker 2: we kind of know who he is and what he is.
- 3:15Speaker 2: You don't need to see him in a game like this.
- 3:18Speaker 2: I also think another player who was a stock cup
- 3:20Speaker 2: based off of simply not playing was veteran safety Marcus
- 3:24Speaker 2: Epps because he's been going. You know, he's in a
- 3:27Speaker 2: safety battle with Michael Carter the second. Michael Carter the second.
- 3:30Speaker 2: I think he's had the better camp, but almost working
- 3:33Speaker 2: against him is the fact that he's so versatile. He
- 3:36Speaker 2: can he wears three different hats. But I think Epps
- 3:39Speaker 2: has been really the clear cut answer when the Eagles
- 3:43Speaker 2: are in nickel going opposite Drew mccouba, and he's a steady,
- 3:46Speaker 2: consistent player. But he didn't play in this game, so
- 3:49Speaker 2: I think that maybe is pretty indicative of how they
- 3:52Speaker 2: feel about him moving forward.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Ye all right, let's get to the offense. Andrews so
- 3:57Speaker 1: jono Joku Wow starting a left guard. I know he
- 3:59Speaker 1: got reps last week early in the week. His first
- 4:02Speaker 1: guard wraps. That kind of surprised me, but he's played
- 4:05Speaker 1: it in his career. He's played right and left tackle.
- 4:09Speaker 1: I like it they're doing this because with Lane Johnson
- 4:11Speaker 1: back fright Johnson, we know it's the swing tackle. No
- 4:14Speaker 1: Markel Bell right now as the backup right tackle. Not
- 4:17Speaker 1: a lot of room for another tackle. But Andrew, I
- 4:19Speaker 1: like this move of him playing starting actually left guard.
- 4:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:23Speaker 2: So on Thursday's practice they tried him out at left guard.
- 4:27Speaker 2: Everything that they've asked him to do Adham, At least
- 4:30Speaker 2: to my eye without knowing how they feel about it,
- 4:33Speaker 2: it seems like he executes it pretty well. And I
- 4:37Speaker 2: think the fact that they're giving him more opportunity to
- 4:39Speaker 2: suggest that they're pleased with what they're seeing of him.
- 4:42Speaker 2: He played twenty one snaps in this game. They got
- 4:45Speaker 2: him out of their relative to some of the other
- 4:47Speaker 2: players who were lingering into the the third quarter. But yeah,
- 4:51Speaker 2: I mean, this is an interesting player and they're trying
- 4:53Speaker 2: to expand his palate and see what he can offer.
- 4:56Speaker 2: If I had to put a fifty three out today,
- 4:59Speaker 2: he's on.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Okay, Well, we've got a little time to do that now.
- 5:04Speaker 1: On offense, the thing that was so disappointing is they
- 5:07Speaker 1: had seven penalties. Some pre snap Shipley had a really
- 5:11Speaker 1: nice run of eight yards. They had holding penalty stours.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Shipley had the eight yard run. Then they had a
- 5:18Speaker 1: seven yard run got called back Bigsby's first run. Stowers
- 5:21Speaker 1: had the hold, so there's fifteen yards there. It can't
- 5:25Speaker 1: have that. Man. They shot themselves to the foot. Dalton
- 5:29Speaker 1: didn't really establish anything. Tenor McKee had the nice crosser
- 5:33Speaker 1: to Cooper for thirteen yards, but Andrew. Overall, what kind
- 5:37Speaker 1: of takeaways could we possibly have with this offense?
- 5:40Speaker 2: Not a ton, It was vanilla. The timing wasn't there
- 5:43Speaker 2: for either quarterback. We can get to Cole Payton later,
- 5:46Speaker 2: I'm sure we will, But I would also say that
- 5:49Speaker 2: I expected to see more from the wide receivers, especially
- 5:51Speaker 2: Darius Cooper, based on the camp that he's had. You
- 5:55Speaker 2: have to have that reception. It was a third and six.
- 5:58Speaker 2: I believe the offense was really struggling to generate any
- 6:01Speaker 2: sort of rhythm. It hit him in the hands. It
- 6:04Speaker 2: was a little bit behind, but you got to you
- 6:06Speaker 2: gotta have that. And I thought that in a game
- 6:09Speaker 2: that he could have used that as a launching pad
- 6:12Speaker 2: and reaffirmed what we've seen in training camp. Because he
- 6:15Speaker 2: has been lights out. I thought he kind of wasn't
- 6:18Speaker 2: didn't meet the moment there. And I also should mention
- 6:20Speaker 2: that he played, for whatever it's worth, the third most
- 6:23Speaker 2: snaps of any offensive player on Saturday night.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Yeah, and the two guys this is also interesting. Although
- 6:29Speaker 1: they didn't start. The two guys who led them in
- 6:31Speaker 1: staffs were Micah Morris thirty four snaps seventy seven percent overall,
- 6:37Speaker 1: and then Jake Majors, who's seen time at Garden Center
- 6:40Speaker 1: in training camp. He also played seventy seven percent. He
- 6:43Speaker 1: had a penalty, by the way, in the game.
- 6:46Speaker 2: That was a bad That was a bad penalty, by
- 6:48Speaker 2: the way.
- 6:48Speaker 1: That was Yeah, that was bad.
- 6:49Speaker 2: That was really bad.
- 6:50Speaker 1: Yeah that that was not good. So overall here, yeah,
- 6:53Speaker 1: I'm with you. They were inapt. They had some good again,
- 6:58Speaker 1: some good runs called back Shipley explosive, which is what.
- 7:01Speaker 2: You say he did.
- 7:02Speaker 1: He did, you know, an eight yard run. The one
- 7:04Speaker 1: that did count was nice. Now, Colepayne had the scrambled
- 7:08Speaker 1: play to or as a comma for the touchdown. Look,
- 7:13Speaker 1: he's a scrambler. This is what he does. He's a
- 7:15Speaker 1: really good athlete, good build, arm, he has arm strung.
- 7:19Speaker 1: The problem is this mechanics. I mean, what do you
- 7:22Speaker 1: take anything away from him? Hey, they did score when
- 7:24Speaker 1: he was quarterback.
- 7:25Speaker 2: No, it was pretty much like San Loot football. When
- 7:28Speaker 2: he was out there, three carries for forty five yards.
- 7:31Speaker 2: He put the offense on his shoulders to make something happen,
- 7:34Speaker 2: scrambled drow to get the ball to Azukama, who, by
- 7:36Speaker 2: the way of all the down the roster, you know,
- 7:40Speaker 2: depth wide receivers. You can make an argument for Ques Watkins.
- 7:43Speaker 2: I think he's had some nice moments, but I would
- 7:45Speaker 2: say that Eric Azukama has probably been the most consistent
- 7:48Speaker 2: of those back end of the roster guys. So he
- 7:51Speaker 2: also had I should mention seventy seven yards on three
- 7:54Speaker 2: returns as well.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Which is important because they need they need to kind
- 7:58Speaker 1: of figure out both returners. What are your thoughts now,
- 8:02Speaker 1: at least we've talked about Punk returning. What are your
- 8:04Speaker 1: thoughts on kick return At this point.
- 8:07Speaker 2: I'm still leaning will Shipley. They know what they have,
- 8:10Speaker 2: they know what he's all about. You don't necessarily need
- 8:13Speaker 2: to throw him back there. In the preseason. Interestingly enough,
- 8:16Speaker 2: they repped Darius Cooper there. I believe it was Thursday
- 8:20Speaker 2: for practice. They're trying to see what he can do.
- 8:23Speaker 2: I think his skill set and body type would really
- 8:25Speaker 2: support that Elijah Moore as a player who's repped there,
- 8:29Speaker 2: and Tank Bigsby has gotten some reps there in training
- 8:33Speaker 2: camp as well. But I think the most logical answer
- 8:36Speaker 2: someone who you know is more than likely going to
- 8:39Speaker 2: be on the fifty three is will Shipley versus someone
- 8:42Speaker 2: maybe like a Britain Covey who has done it before.
- 8:45Speaker 2: But maybe you can elevate them from the practice squad
- 8:48Speaker 2: and do some things like that with them.
- 8:49Speaker 1: For in terms of punk return correct correct A couple
- 8:53Speaker 1: standouts to me, at least on the offensive line. Some
- 8:56Speaker 1: really good blocks by Willie Lampkin. We've noted many times
- 8:59Speaker 1: how physical he is. He can't there's nothing you can
- 9:01Speaker 1: do about his arm lanth or his height. But I'll
- 9:05Speaker 1: tell you what again, Eagles need these developmental offensive linemen
- 9:08Speaker 1: of Djoku, Lampkin, Kendall we've known about for two years now,
- 9:12Speaker 1: Markel Bell and Jake Majors who played a ton of
- 9:15Speaker 1: snaps as we mentioned, so.
- 9:17Speaker 2: He had a good game aside from the penalty. I
- 9:19Speaker 2: think by and large, pretty much all of those guys
- 9:22Speaker 2: except for Miles Hinton and Cameron Williams. They really stood
- 9:26Speaker 2: out to me as someone players who didn't necessarily take
- 9:29Speaker 2: advantage of their opportunities. But I thought of the other
- 9:32Speaker 2: group that we've outlined for the last several shows, I
- 9:34Speaker 2: thought that they acquitted themselves pretty well.
- 9:37Speaker 1: Yeah, and by the way, they only got sack once
- 9:39Speaker 1: that was McKee, So that you know, that's part of
- 9:41Speaker 1: it of making sure that you protect the quarterback well
- 9:44Speaker 1: enough of just the penalties were crushing. A drop here
- 9:48Speaker 1: or there that was crushing. What is your read on
- 9:52Speaker 1: and Nociriani talked. We were able to get the quotes
- 9:54Speaker 1: after the game, so I was just looking them over.
- 9:56Speaker 1: What are your thoughts on this quarterback situation between McKee adult.
- 10:02Speaker 2: I still lean towards Andy Dalton. He is versed in
- 10:05Speaker 2: this offense. I've seen more from him in training camp. Tanner.
- 10:09Speaker 2: McKee has had some decent moments. There's other times where
- 10:13Speaker 2: he's holding onto the ball a little bit too long.
- 10:15Speaker 2: I don't know if it's a byproduct of the offense
- 10:19Speaker 2: or if he's just hesitant for whatever reason, but I
- 10:22Speaker 2: think Andy Dalton to me, has been the more consistent player. Now,
- 10:26Speaker 2: both fell short of meeting expectations Saturday night. To be clear,
- 10:30Speaker 2: all the quarterbacks, all three of them, it was pretty
- 10:34Speaker 2: dreadful quarterback play if we're being honest. But yeah, I
- 10:38Speaker 2: defer to the veteran who started as a number of
- 10:40Speaker 2: games in the NFL and has some experience in this system.
- 10:44Speaker 1: Yeah, you got to play on time and that that's
- 10:46Speaker 1: going to be the key here. What other takeaways and
- 10:49Speaker 1: what other information that people need to know about the
- 10:51Speaker 1: offense before we moved to the defense.
- 10:53Speaker 3: Nobody loves grilling more than me. Could be thirty degrees
- 10:56Speaker 3: and I'll be out there grilling burgers and stakes. But
- 10:58Speaker 3: the one thing that I really can't stand is losing
- 11:01Speaker 3: my fish and my veggies because they just can't grill
- 11:05Speaker 3: without falling through. That's why I've been using xclads. BBQ Collection.

- 11:41Speaker 3: Last week, I grilled the best surf and turf my style,

- 13:20Speaker 3: specials for fans, students, service members, and healthcare pros can
- 13:25Speaker 3: then Apothecary Top quality cannabis, great prices, and an experience
- 13:29Speaker 3: made for Philly fans. Twenty one and up.
- 13:32Speaker 2: I mean, I would just say that the receiver group
- 13:36Speaker 2: Hollywood Brown played seven snaps. Elijah Moore played seven snaps.
- 13:40Speaker 2: Say what you will about that. You could read into it,
- 13:43Speaker 2: but the Eagles got them out of the game fairly quickly.
- 13:45Speaker 2: So I think when you're looking at the wide receiver hierarchy.
- 13:49Speaker 2: This is maybe the way that the team views it
- 13:51Speaker 2: versus how the perception may be from the outside. But
- 13:56Speaker 2: that was really what I was able to glean from it.
- 13:59Speaker 2: But for me, I was really keying in on the
- 14:02Speaker 2: reserve offensive lineman, the young players that we've spent so
- 14:05Speaker 2: much time talking about. I've invested a lot of time
- 14:08Speaker 2: interviewing these players, getting to know them a little bit.
- 14:11Speaker 2: I've watched a lot of their college tape before, and
- 14:13Speaker 2: then you focus in on them during training camp, and
- 14:15Speaker 2: I thought that especially William Lampkin, answered the bell in
- 14:19Speaker 2: this game. Now it's about building off of that for
- 14:21Speaker 2: the next two games. They have a couple of joint
- 14:24Speaker 2: practices this week which are going to be hugely critical
- 14:27Speaker 2: for them and in terms of their roster standing. So
- 14:30Speaker 2: we'll see where things go. But that for me on
- 14:33Speaker 2: the offensive side were some of my bigger takeaways. And
- 14:36Speaker 2: then with the running game, by the way, I thought
- 14:38Speaker 2: Bill Shipley did a nice job. You talked about that
- 14:40Speaker 2: he had five carries for twenty five yards at one
- 14:43Speaker 2: point and then he lost some yards and ended up
- 14:46Speaker 2: being seven for twenty two. But I don't necessarily look
- 14:48Speaker 2: at will as someone who who didn't hold up his end.
- 14:53Speaker 2: I think that was something about, you know, just opportunity.
- 14:57Speaker 1: Yeah, and also Miles Fitton played twenty months as I
- 15:00Speaker 1: had two penalties. That was disappointing. The ten penalties overall
- 15:05Speaker 1: for nearly one hundred yards. This is not going to
- 15:07Speaker 1: make it. I mean, that just cannot happen. And the
- 15:10Speaker 1: good thing for Ringo, we don't talk about how much
- 15:12Speaker 1: of defense because he doesn't play it much, but he
- 15:14Speaker 1: did have the pick, he did have a penalty. But overall,
- 15:17Speaker 1: you know, Michael Jordan, by the way, he also played
- 15:20Speaker 1: twenty one snaps. He's a guy I was thinking a
- 15:23Speaker 1: little bit more of because he's the one veteran of
- 15:25Speaker 1: this backup group. But it hasn't happened for him yet.
- 15:28Speaker 2: He hasn't really stood apart from the others in training camp.
- 15:32Speaker 2: He's someone that, yes, you like the experience, but you
- 15:35Speaker 2: could probably release him, get him on the practice squad
- 15:37Speaker 2: if you like him enough to keep him around and
- 15:40Speaker 2: keep him in the building, and maybe you elevate him
- 15:42Speaker 2: on game day. You like the experience though that when
- 15:45Speaker 2: you talk about this young offensive line, there's a lot
- 15:48Speaker 2: of youth there, so a lot of it is based
- 15:50Speaker 2: on projection. But I think that the players that we've
- 15:53Speaker 2: talked about, the Willie Lampkins of the world and the
- 15:56Speaker 2: Michael Morrises, those are players who are if you're worried
- 16:00Speaker 2: about the waiver wire, they're more likely to be claimed.
- 16:03Speaker 2: And then then Michael Jordan would be signing with another team.
- 16:06Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 16:07Speaker 1: Yeah, because yeah, he's a vested venteran. All right, let's
- 16:09Speaker 1: get the defense. This is interesting. So they came out
- 16:12Speaker 1: of their usual thirty four front. The tackles were Ty Robinson,
- 16:15Speaker 1: who'd flash at least three pressures he had a sack,
- 16:18Speaker 1: Barron Young, and Gabe Hall. The edges the start were
- 16:21Speaker 1: Epanessa and Ebiquetti. The ilb's were Johad Campbell. He wound
- 16:26Speaker 1: up starting. Jeremiah Charter is very active in this game.
- 16:28Speaker 1: The safeties were Andre sam you mentioned earlier, Michael Carter,
- 16:32Speaker 1: and the corners were Bennett Jacorry Bennett who got hurt,
- 16:34Speaker 1: and Ringo got to start there. Get a look at
- 16:36Speaker 1: him at corner. Andrew. Let's talk about the defense. I
- 16:40Speaker 1: thought there were some good things of this game.
- 16:41Speaker 2: What did you say, Yeah, Ty Robinson's a player who
- 16:44Speaker 2: the last few practices or so has shown signs with
- 16:47Speaker 2: life and that's important. He picked up a sack during
- 16:51Speaker 2: team grows. I guess you should put quotations there because
- 16:54Speaker 2: they're not taking anyone to the ground, of course, but
- 16:57Speaker 2: in the game he was able to get some pressure.
- 16:59Speaker 2: He had as a little bit more confidence at least,
- 17:02Speaker 2: that's what's evident to me when you watch him play
- 17:04Speaker 2: when you start the stack days. Really, since he got
- 17:07Speaker 2: in that little scuffle with Tyler Steen early last week
- 17:11Speaker 2: in practice, it seems like that almost flipped the switch
- 17:13Speaker 2: with him. That's what you want to see from him.
- 17:15Speaker 2: He's a fourth round pick. The scouting community was really
- 17:19Speaker 2: high on him coming out of the draft, and he
- 17:21Speaker 2: just wasn't able to put it together. Played in the
- 17:22Speaker 2: eleven games last year, one hundred and four defensive snaps.
- 17:25Speaker 2: Now it's really you know, it's go time because when
- 17:29Speaker 2: you talk about the defensive tackle situation, yes, you know
- 17:32Speaker 2: what the top of the rotation looks like. But Morojomo
- 17:36Speaker 2: and Byron Younger in the final years of their rookie deal.
- 17:39Speaker 2: That's why tyd Robinson all of a sudden becomes really important.
- 17:43Speaker 2: So you need to bring you need him to sort
- 17:45Speaker 2: of come along a little bit, and I thought he
- 17:46Speaker 2: did some good things. Jeremiah Trotter junior was pretty active
- 17:50Speaker 2: in that game, and I thought that the safeties largely
- 17:53Speaker 2: did a nice job. Andre Sam Michael Carter had some
- 17:56Speaker 2: tough moments, but I thought Andre Sam was mostly in
- 17:59Speaker 2: the right play and didn't seem to be at a
- 18:02Speaker 2: position all that much. And that's sort of being a
- 18:04Speaker 2: byproduct of now in your third season with that defense.
- 18:07Speaker 1: The Trotter junior very active. Five combine tackles. He had
- 18:10Speaker 1: a sack. You like that because he wasn't known as
- 18:13Speaker 1: a great blitzer at Clemson, but man, that was a
- 18:17Speaker 1: good sack that he had. And defensively, Zion Wilson Potaway,
- 18:21Speaker 1: he showed up. He had four combined tackles in this game.
- 18:24Speaker 1: The guy who's very new. We only played defense one
- 18:26Speaker 1: year at East Carolina. Before that, he was an offensive
- 18:30Speaker 1: lineman and a little bit of a fullback. But he
- 18:32Speaker 1: was so good his final season last year at East Carolina.
- 18:36Speaker 1: It was going to transfer to Uva to get one
- 18:39Speaker 1: more year, but the NCAA denied it. You go sign
- 18:42Speaker 1: him as an undirected free agent, but man, is he's built. Andrew,
- 18:47Speaker 1: He's got some quickness. I like what I saw in
- 18:49Speaker 1: that game.
- 18:50Speaker 2: Yeah, that's sort of an intriguing player who hasn't gotten
- 18:53Speaker 2: a lot of practice reps. But there's a lot of
- 18:57Speaker 2: interest there because of what he could become. And we'll
- 19:01Speaker 2: have to wait and see if he's able to kind
- 19:02Speaker 2: of was at a blip on the radar or is
- 19:04Speaker 2: he going to be able to build off of that?
- 19:07Speaker 2: But I also thought that Deontay Lawson, the undrafted linebacker
- 19:10Speaker 2: out of Alabama, as a player that I am keeping
- 19:12Speaker 2: an eye on. He's flashed a little bit the last
- 19:15Speaker 2: couple of practices. Chance Campbell has been They've been slow
- 19:20Speaker 2: playing him a little bit as he's working through the
- 19:21Speaker 2: groin injury. He did not play in the game on
- 19:24Speaker 2: Saturday night. And while I still know, I know that
- 19:27Speaker 2: the Eagles really like Chance Campbell, Deontay Lawson's a younger player,
- 19:31Speaker 2: has some athleticism. Maybe he's a good developmental player that
- 19:35Speaker 2: they might want to keep on the practice squad. But
- 19:37Speaker 2: he showed something to me on Saturday night.
- 19:40Speaker 1: By the way, the players who did not play, who
- 19:42Speaker 1: are backups? Damian Pierce. Is Pierce hurt?
- 19:46Speaker 2: Yeah he's hurt.
- 19:47Speaker 1: Okay, Yeah, he's hurt John Jones. We know it's hurt
- 19:50Speaker 1: Chance Campbell, who you mentioned. We mentioned Johnny Munt earlier.
- 19:54Speaker 1: The one that surprised me now was Johnny Wilson on
- 19:56Speaker 1: the injury report.
- 19:57Speaker 2: So he was leading up to third with a knee.
- 20:01Speaker 2: He missed two days with it was classified as a knee,
- 20:04Speaker 2: but he was full go on Thursday, so the presumption was, Okay,
- 20:10Speaker 2: he's in the clear. Maybe they were just being cautious.
- 20:13Speaker 2: But I think in this case, maybe they were being
- 20:15Speaker 2: cautious and not trying to put him out there and
- 20:17Speaker 2: risk reaggravating something. I'm not exactly sure, but on Thursday,
- 20:21Speaker 2: what I can tell you is that he did practice.
- 20:24Speaker 1: The other guys who are hurt did play was Nesky
- 20:27Speaker 1: Castro Fields, the corner, James Newby, the edge rusher. He's
- 20:33Speaker 1: been hurt. And then you know that overall is pretty
- 20:35Speaker 1: much yet. But Johnny Wilson, boy, they really need to
- 20:37Speaker 1: take a look at him over the final two games
- 20:39Speaker 1: at least, and these joint practices, which we'll get to
- 20:42Speaker 1: in a minute. Uh final thoughts on defense, anything else
- 20:45Speaker 1: that stood out to you in this game.
- 20:48Speaker 2: I would say that Mac McWilliams probably he had a
- 20:50Speaker 2: tough night going into it. He was someone that was
- 20:54Speaker 2: coming on a little bit. He was emerging, But I
- 20:57Speaker 2: noticed them more as a corner than I did as
- 21:00Speaker 2: a nickelback. They use him as a nickelback in this game,
- 21:03Speaker 2: and I thought that he was targeted early. They were
- 21:06Speaker 2: sort of picking on him peppering the middle of the field.
- 21:09Speaker 2: He had ten tackles, but that's not a good thing.
- 21:11Speaker 2: You don't want to see your nickel corner at wrack
- 21:13Speaker 2: up double digit tackles, and I thought that there is
- 21:17Speaker 2: a you know, there's a lot of optimism about him
- 21:20Speaker 2: going into that game, and there still should be, to
- 21:23Speaker 2: be clear, but I didn't think he had the best
- 21:26Speaker 2: outing in that first game.
- 21:28Speaker 1: The big positive to me is ty Robinson showed up,
- 21:30Speaker 1: and he showed up early in this game, and he
- 21:32Speaker 1: needed to because he's had a nondescript training camp. As
- 21:35Speaker 1: we talked about the start of camp. They want a
- 21:37Speaker 1: lock to make the team. He just needs to show something.
- 21:39Speaker 1: As you correctly pointed out two guys who were important
- 21:43Speaker 1: to them Byron Young of course Moro Jomo. Their contracts
- 21:46Speaker 1: are up and next year could be very very interesting
- 21:48Speaker 1: if these guys aren't back. So We'll see what happens
- 21:50Speaker 1: there with their contractual issues, whether they're going to be
- 21:53Speaker 1: back or not. But I want to see more of
- 21:56Speaker 1: Arnold Ebuqutty started the game. Andrew Yeah, I know he
- 22:00Speaker 1: He's got a decent amount of guaranteed money, so it's
- 22:02Speaker 1: not questionable that he be on the team or not.
- 22:03Speaker 1: But I'd like to see him. He played twenty two
- 22:06Speaker 1: snaps of the he got twenty eight percent of the snaps.
- 22:09Speaker 1: I like to see him be more of a factor.
- 22:11Speaker 3: I know how I feel when I wake up in
- 22:12Speaker 3: the morning. I have so many things on my mind.
- 22:15Speaker 3: I can't get any of this done until I have
- 22:17Speaker 3: my first cup of coffee. I know a lot of
- 22:20Speaker 3: you feel the same way. You either need that coffee,

- 26:20Speaker 2: Yeah, early in the game, I noticed him a little bit,
- 26:22Speaker 2: but I noticed overall epinessa a little bit more, and
- 26:26Speaker 2: I think you're going to see him work in a
- 26:28Speaker 2: little bit. He has stood out to me in training camp,
- 26:33Speaker 2: maybe not as a pure pass rusher, but setting the edge,
- 26:36Speaker 2: and he's been active in run support and things like that.
- 26:41Speaker 2: I also want to mention two other players that really
- 26:44Speaker 2: warrant consideration here for uh for having a notable night,
- 26:48Speaker 2: and that is who are Bernard and Joshua Wayrou? Both
- 26:52Speaker 2: ipp players who are Bernard of course, a Nigeria native
- 26:56Speaker 2: and Wairoa a native of Kenya. Wayrous has done some
- 27:03Speaker 2: solid things in camp the last week or so. I
- 27:06Speaker 2: know Vic Fangio mentioned that both players are light years away,
- 27:09Speaker 2: but we spend so much time talking about who are Bernard?
- 27:13Speaker 2: Whereas Joshua Wayrou is clearly ahead of him in terms
- 27:17Speaker 2: of just having a better grasp on what he's doing
- 27:22Speaker 2: out there. And he had a couple of pressures and
- 27:24Speaker 2: had a quarterback hit and it was cool to see
- 27:27Speaker 2: that translate what we've seen on the practice field into
- 27:30Speaker 2: a game situation. Play thirty snaps in that game, which
- 27:33Speaker 2: is more than I anticipated going in, and then who
- 27:36Speaker 2: or Bernard played fifteen.
- 27:38Speaker 1: Yeah, but the fact that Bernard played it tells you
- 27:40Speaker 1: that Fangio and the front office and the coaches who're
- 27:44Speaker 1: working with him believe that he could protect himself. He
- 27:47Speaker 1: knows what he's doing enough to get out there. Now
- 27:50Speaker 1: they've got some tape where you can actually tackle. There's
- 27:54Speaker 1: opponent on the other side that's not their own players.
- 27:56Speaker 1: So it's cool. He got his feet what's so to speak,
- 28:00Speaker 1: and gets to see what it's like to play in
- 28:01Speaker 1: an NFL game. It's it's really cool and that now
- 28:05Speaker 1: that's behind them. Now he knows and they've got that
- 28:07Speaker 1: tape to go over and we'll see what happened. So
- 28:10Speaker 1: and let's turn the page. So this week Wednesday and Thursday,
- 28:16Speaker 1: late morning, the Eagles were practice up there in New England.
- 28:18Speaker 1: Right now, the weather looks like it's going to be good,
- 28:20Speaker 1: so let's hope it stays that way. What are your
- 28:22Speaker 1: thoughts on this week's practice with the defending AFC champion Patriot.
- 28:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I can't wait for it. Joint practices are my
- 28:29Speaker 2: favorite aspect of training camp. It's been the high I
- 28:32Speaker 2: had that highlighted as soon as the dates were announced
- 28:34Speaker 2: that that's the highlight of my summer. But really there,
- 28:38Speaker 2: I think every team, it's fair to say, is getting
- 28:40Speaker 2: to that point the summer where you've reached the dog
- 28:43Speaker 2: days and you just want to square off against another team.
- 28:46Speaker 2: The Eagles are certainly in that category, and the Patriots
- 28:50Speaker 2: are a good football team, so you get a really
- 28:52Speaker 2: good assessment of where the Eagles are. This is going
- 28:54Speaker 2: to be more geared towards the starters who aren't playing
- 28:57Speaker 2: in these preseason games to get some really quol work,
- 29:00Speaker 2: and then for the reserves and the deeper reserves, that's
- 29:03Speaker 2: what the preseason games are for. But this should be
- 29:06Speaker 2: a really good indicator of where a lot of these
- 29:09Speaker 2: players are and seeing how that translates what we've seen
- 29:12Speaker 2: through eleven training camp practices to what we're going to
- 29:16Speaker 2: see next this.
- 29:17Speaker 1: Week, right, And what happens is the starters on both
- 29:20Speaker 1: teams will play a ton. Typically when you have joined practices,
- 29:24Speaker 1: the starters practice a ton and then they don't play
- 29:26Speaker 1: in the game. So you're going to see barring injur
- 29:29Speaker 1: You're going to see a j. Brown. We look forward
- 29:30Speaker 1: to seeing that. What that's going to look like. Matchup wise,
- 29:33Speaker 1: Romeo Dobbs, we will see him in practice. I know
- 29:36Speaker 1: they're excited to get him. They have a decent tight
- 29:40Speaker 1: end group. It's not great they've got They've had some
- 29:42Speaker 1: challenges of their offensive line. This is where the Eagles
- 29:45Speaker 1: defensive front could could really win, there's no question about it.
- 29:48Speaker 1: And Christian Gonzales, as long as he's healthy, we'll see
- 29:52Speaker 1: how he matches up with whoever they put out there.
- 29:54Speaker 1: Now here's the problem. We don't know about Smitty Makay Lemon.
- 29:57Speaker 1: I'd be shocked if he practices only because he isn't
- 29:59Speaker 1: practice in a while. I'll take at this point, I
- 30:03Speaker 1: take a limited practice. I'll take any kind of reps
- 30:06Speaker 1: if he can do it. But again, we got to
- 30:09Speaker 1: see what happens today. Today's money and they practice today
- 30:12Speaker 1: late morning, but early afternoons rather. But the bottom line is, Andrew,
- 30:16Speaker 1: these are very important to their team. That New England
- 30:19Speaker 1: obviously came out of nowhere last year. But it's gonna
- 30:22Speaker 1: be fun there's gonna be a lot of juices. I
- 30:23Speaker 1: look forward to it.
- 30:25Speaker 2: And by the way, three injuries to keep an eye on.
- 30:28Speaker 2: Based off of Thursday. The only player who was not
- 30:32Speaker 2: in uniform at all was sa Quon Barkley and it
- 30:35Speaker 2: looked like he got dinged on Thursday towards the end
- 30:39Speaker 2: of practice. We'll have to wait and see how that goes,
- 30:43Speaker 2: how that develops throughout the week. Quinna Mitchell had the
- 30:46Speaker 2: glue that sidelined him for Thursday's practice, and Cooper dejen
- 30:50Speaker 2: had it gin that sidelined him for Thursday. That those
- 30:54Speaker 2: are three things that we got to keep an eye
- 30:57Speaker 2: on as we move forward through this week.
- 30:59Speaker 1: Yeah, no doubt, because if you're going against the Patriots
- 31:02Speaker 1: and with all that they're bringing on offense, Trayvon Henderson
- 31:05Speaker 1: Stevenson may decent tight end group. I know they really
- 31:10Speaker 1: like Pop Douglas. The backup receivers got some good quicks.
- 31:14Speaker 1: You want your defense top defensive players out there. And
- 31:16Speaker 1: as you say, we'll see you about Barklay. But bottom
- 31:19Speaker 1: line is the Eagles will move on. They will play
- 31:22Speaker 1: the Patriots on Saturday. For Andrew to check o, I'm
- 31:26Speaker 1: Adam Kaplan. We'll see you on the next show.
