- 0:00I just want to ask you, I'm a dad of two girls, he's a black man.
- 0:03And he's like, how do you walk into these spaces so confidently?
- 0:08And to be honest, it was the first time I had really thought about it
- 0:10because we are who we are.
- 0:12And so when he asked me, I stopped and I thought about it.
- 0:15And I was like, it's because I was raised in Jamaica.
- 0:17Like the reason why I'm able to move through these very white spaces
- 0:21that are not necessarily made to be the most welcoming
- 0:24and not care is because I'm Jamaican.
- 0:27Yeah, Jamaicans are actually both different.
- 0:29And I was raised in Jamaica.
- 0:30And when I then think about my children and their childhood
- 0:33and what I want for them as adults,
- 0:35but there is something about growing up in a country
- 0:38that not only is black like majority,
- 0:40but in Jamaica, I also had the privilege of growing up in a class
- 0:44that I wouldn't be considered a part of in the UK, right?
- 0:48So when you have your dad's friend is the owner of a bank, right?
- 0:53And you have access because he's at the dinner table.
- 0:55It does give you this sense of, I can do anything.
- 0:58I can be anything that I don't think they would have
- 1:01if they stayed in the UK.
