- 1:46Speaker 3: Coming up this morning.
- 1:47Speaker 6: A little bit later on Republican Strategists, the head of
- 1:49Speaker 6: Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse in West Virginia, Greg Thomas, will
- 1:53Speaker 6: join us, always entertaining when mister Thomas is in the house.
- 1:56Speaker 6: We're going to talk about the first week or so
- 1:59Speaker 6: of the Trump and Morrissey administrations with Greg Thomas. There
- 2:03Speaker 6: are some news broke late yesterday evening that we now
- 2:07Speaker 6: have a new member of the State Senate, and that
- 2:10Speaker 6: is in the eighth Senatorial district. Kevin Bartlett, who's a
- 2:12Speaker 6: former House of Delegates member, was appointed to that seat
- 2:16Speaker 6: over a couple of other folks.
- 2:18Speaker 3: He was appointed by the governor.
- 2:20Speaker 6: And I talked to Kevin Bartlett last night and he'll
- 2:23Speaker 6: be making his return to the legislature, it looks like
- 2:25Speaker 6: this time in the Senate, and I'm working to have
- 2:27Speaker 6: him on the show with us on Monday if the
- 2:29Speaker 6: schedule works out, so he'll be on the show on Monday,
- 2:31Speaker 6: so Greg and I will spend a little bit of
- 2:32Speaker 6: time talking about that. Also, Tim Brady from the Charleston
- 2:35Speaker 6: Convention of Visitors Bureau is going to be stopping by.
- 2:38Speaker 6: You may have seen the story and we reported on
- 2:40Speaker 6: over the weekend that with the success of the bike
- 2:44Speaker 6: road races that were held in Charleston last May, and
- 2:48Speaker 6: it was an overwhelming success, they're kind of jumping on
- 2:51Speaker 6: this within the city of Charleston, specifically with the CVB
- 2:54Speaker 6: and possibly calling it Bike City USA. What does Tim
- 2:58Speaker 6: Brady think about that. We'll talk to him about that
- 3:00Speaker 6: coming up. Excuse me a little bit later on the show.
- 3:02Speaker 6: Plus it's always your calls and text to welcome to

- 3:10Speaker 6: four nine three five five zero zero eight. Normally at
- 3:14Speaker 6: this time we'd have Hannah Gardner from the Canal Charleston
- 3:17Speaker 6: Humane Association with this week's Adopt Me Please Pet of
- 3:19Speaker 6: the Week. Hannah at the last moment kind of got
- 3:22Speaker 6: called away. She had some stuff going on up there
- 3:25Speaker 6: at the shelter, some volunteer stuff that they had to
- 3:27Speaker 6: do with some stuff with the volunteers, I guess, So
- 3:29Speaker 6: she was unable to make it on the show this morning.
- 3:32Speaker 6: So the part of Hannah Gardner will be played by
- 3:35Speaker 6: producer Mat Guitar Murphy.
- 3:36Speaker 3: How's that sound, Murphy, I.
- 3:38Speaker 7: Tell you what, I'm just excited because of the name
- 3:41Speaker 7: of this dog. I want to find out what do
- 3:43Speaker 7: I have to do to get into the naming department
- 3:46Speaker 7: at the Humane Association up there.
- 3:47Speaker 6: I was talking to one of our folks out front
- 3:49Speaker 6: about this and they say that, and I asked Hanna
- 3:51Speaker 6: this one time, I said, you have so many animals
- 3:53Speaker 6: at one time? And they can't all be named Fluffy
- 3:56Speaker 6: or Spot or something like that, so they come across
- 3:59Speaker 6: with some interesting name. This week's pet of the week
- 4:03Speaker 6: is named corn cob And if you want to see
- 4:05Speaker 6: Corn Cobb's picture, Corn Cobbs pictures posted is always on
- 4:08Speaker 6: my social media it's Dave Allen Radio and at Dave
- 4:11Speaker 6: a seventy on X. The artist formerly known as Twitter
- 4:15Speaker 6: corn Cob Murphy is a good looking dog.
- 4:17Speaker 7: Yeah, I kind of got that brindle coat going on there.
- 4:20Speaker 7: Apparently a real playful boy. But he is definitely a
- 4:24Speaker 7: good looking dog. A one year old, neutered already apparently
- 4:29Speaker 7: is already ready for fostering if you're interested in that
- 4:32Speaker 7: type of thing. A very playful dog. So it sounds
- 4:36Speaker 7: like the perfect dog for maybe some kids in the
- 4:41Speaker 7: family there. But yeah, he's a good looking pup.
- 4:43Speaker 6: Yeah he is, indeed, And as you said, he seems
- 4:46Speaker 6: to be kid friendly. They always urge caution, but it
- 4:48Speaker 6: seems to be kid friendly. He is a candidate for foster,
- 4:51Speaker 6: as you mentioned, tends to be a little shy at first,
- 4:53Speaker 6: but will open up quickly.
- 4:54Speaker 4: Now.
- 4:55Speaker 6: It's got an interesting story because he came in as
- 4:58Speaker 6: a stray and had parvo but he has been fully
- 5:02Speaker 6: nursed back to health.
- 5:02Speaker 3: He's one hundred percent ready to go.
- 5:04Speaker 6: He was adopted once before and was brought back, and
- 5:07Speaker 6: he wasn't brought back because of anything that he did.
- 5:10Speaker 6: It just happened that the people that adopted him. From
- 5:12Speaker 6: one Handah tells me their living arrangements changed and they
- 5:16Speaker 6: could no longer take care of the dog, so unfortunately
- 5:18Speaker 6: they had to bring him back. So he's brought back
- 5:19Speaker 6: through no fault of his own. So go take a
- 5:23Speaker 6: look at corn Cob and I am happy to report
- 5:26Speaker 6: that Murphy. Last week we had Maxine was our dog.
- 5:29Speaker 6: Last week, Maxine got adopted this week.
- 5:32Speaker 7: Oh that's good to hear.
- 5:33Speaker 3: Maxine was so cute too.
- 5:34Speaker 6: Yeah, Maxine has now got a loving, loving home. A
- 5:36Speaker 6: couple of other things going on at the shelter. And
- 5:40Speaker 6: you may and by the way, always always give them
- 5:42Speaker 6: props for what they do in their social media.
- 5:44Speaker 8: They have.
- 5:44Speaker 3: They run a great, great Facebook page.
- 5:48Speaker 6: They had a mama dog that was dropped off with
- 5:50Speaker 6: several several puppies and it looked like that the mama
- 5:55Speaker 6: was having a hard time caring for them. So they
- 5:58Speaker 6: need some things with this particular case. They're asking for
- 6:01Speaker 6: some extra small feeding tubes, some puppy formula, some blankets,
- 6:07Speaker 6: and some heating pads, because again, when puppies are this small,
- 6:11Speaker 6: and I'm not good at guessing ages, but I mean
- 6:13Speaker 6: they look like they were a couple of days old,
- 6:15Speaker 6: if even that. They're obviously not ready to be adopted
- 6:18Speaker 6: out yet, but they need some extra care. So if
- 6:20Speaker 6: you can help out the folks at the shelter, they
- 6:23Speaker 6: certainly would appreciate that. And again, the complete story about
- 6:26Speaker 6: that is posted on their Facebook page. Also, I understand
- 6:33Speaker 6: that they had another adoption this week, and Matt this
- 6:37Speaker 6: was a dog we had featured a couple of weeks
- 6:39Speaker 6: ago by the name of Fergie.
- 6:41Speaker 3: Fergie got adopted as well.
- 6:43Speaker 4: Good for Fergie.
- 6:44Speaker 7: I tell you what, I'm always amazed by what they're
- 6:46Speaker 7: able to do up there at the Canachurals and Humane Association.
- 6:50Speaker 7: I mean, hundreds of animals literally, and I mean every
- 6:54Speaker 7: case is so unique. I mean it's talking about corn Cob,
- 6:57Speaker 7: the pet of the week this week, and the parvo
- 6:59Speaker 7: pupp the situation there. I mean, these are sometimes very
- 7:04Speaker 7: complicated medical situations for these animals, and they managed to
- 7:08Speaker 7: get all that taken care of. And get all of
- 7:10Speaker 7: these animals ready for adoption. It's just I'm forever impressed
- 7:13Speaker 7: with the work they do.
- 7:14Speaker 6: Yeah, absolutely, absolutely so again, our dog this week is
- 7:17Speaker 6: Corn Cobb. Pictures posted on Dave Island Radio and Facebook
- 7:20Speaker 6: and at Dave a seventy on the Twitter machine. One
- 7:23Speaker 6: year old male, neutered, microchipped, vaccinated prefers playful dogs, seems
- 7:28Speaker 6: to be kid friendly. He is a candidate for foster.
- 7:30Speaker 6: And one of the things we always bring up is
- 7:32Speaker 6: is sometimes you're living situations maybe you've already got animals,
- 7:35Speaker 6: can't take on anymore, but you are willing to foster them.
- 7:38Speaker 6: They definitely need fosters up there. So it's just somebody
- 7:41Speaker 6: to get the animals out of that traumatic environment as
- 7:45Speaker 6: it can be sometime with these animals, get them out
- 7:47Speaker 6: of there. And so he's a candidate for foster if
- 7:50Speaker 6: you would like. But I mean, based on the picture, Matt,
- 7:53Speaker 6: I think if you take a look at this dog
- 7:54Speaker 6: and he comes into your home, he's probably gonna stay.
- 7:57Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 7:57Speaker 7: Absolutely, very good looking pup. And the one thing about
- 8:00Speaker 7: the fostering too, I always try to think about people
- 8:03Speaker 7: that if you go to a concert and you're stuck
- 8:05Speaker 7: around hundreds of people around you, and you feel a
- 8:08Speaker 7: little claustrophobic. Imagine being a dog in the shelter around
- 8:12Speaker 7: two hundred other dogs that are just barking. How stressful
- 8:15Speaker 7: that is. Fostering is a great way to get those
- 8:18Speaker 7: animals out of the shelter for a little bit and
- 8:20Speaker 7: let them just destress and just really start to actually
- 8:24Speaker 7: come into their own selves a little bit. So definitely
- 8:27Speaker 7: for the fostering if you're able to do something like that.
- 8:30Speaker 3: All right, So Corn Cobb is our pet.
- 8:32Speaker 6: Go check out his picture Dave Allan Radio on Facebook
- 8:35Speaker 6: or add Dave a seventy on x And let's go
- 8:39Speaker 6: get to what we're doing really good with these adoptions here,
- 8:41Speaker 6: Like Lou got Maxine adopted last week, so let's go
- 8:43Speaker 6: try to get Corn Cob adopted as well. But Dave
- 8:46Speaker 6: Allan showing five any Live is Brown Too. Part by
- 8:48Speaker 6: Morgan and Morgan, America's largest injury law firm. I'm gonna
- 8:51Speaker 6: take the break a little bit early. Coming up a
- 8:52Speaker 6: little bit later on, Greg Thomas is here and we
- 8:54Speaker 6: are also going to spend some time talking about to
- 8:57Speaker 6: some things going on within the city of Charleston with
- 8:59Speaker 6: Tim Brady from the Convention and Visitors Bureau.
- 9:01Speaker 3: He's up next. We're back after this on the Voice
- 9:03Speaker 3: of Charleston W. CANEHS.

- 11:27Speaker 6: Brady's here from the Charleston Convention and Visitors Bureau.
- 11:30Speaker 3: Tim, good morning, welcome to the show.
- 11:31Speaker 4: Good morning Dave, Thanks for having me, Man, thank you
- 11:33Speaker 4: for being here.
- 11:33Speaker 6: We have through the years, Tim called Charleston a variety
- 11:36Speaker 6: of things. Of course, it's a capital city, Charlie West,
- 11:39Speaker 6: Chuck Town, but now Bike City USA.
- 11:42Speaker 5: So to be clear, we're not trying to rename the city.
- 11:45Speaker 3: This is a this is a kit another tag, This
- 11:47Speaker 3: is a this is a.
- 11:48Speaker 5: Campaign that we've created for a couple of reasons. One,
- 11:52Speaker 5: you know, we saw the enthusiasm in the city last
- 11:55Speaker 5: year during the USA Cycling Pro National Championships, and we
- 11:58Speaker 5: have that event for four more years. It brought four
- 12:01Speaker 5: point six million dollars worth of economic activity to our city.
- 12:04Speaker 5: It brought increased visitor spending, It got locals out spending money,
- 12:09Speaker 5: enthusiastic buying into cycling road racing. But you step back
- 12:14Speaker 5: and you look at what Charleston has to offer, and
- 12:16Speaker 5: we have this platform for the next four years of
- 12:18Speaker 5: having this significant race with a lot of eyeballs, and
- 12:23Speaker 5: we want to take advantage of that, and we want
- 12:24Speaker 5: to harness the community and enthusiasm when you look at
- 12:27Speaker 5: Charleston and you've got somewhere in the neighborhood of one
- 12:29Speaker 5: hundred and seventy miles of paved gravel and mountain bike
- 12:33Speaker 5: trails all right here in and around Charleston. And then
- 12:36Speaker 5: you expand that out and you look at what's happening
- 12:39Speaker 5: in places like Putnam County with the Meeks Mountain Trail
- 12:42Speaker 5: and increased trail development along the Hatfield. McCoy and I
- 12:47Speaker 5: would further say that the ven diagram of people who
- 12:49Speaker 5: are into cycling and people who like to kayak, whitewater
- 12:52Speaker 5: raft hike is probably a complete circle. So we have
- 12:56Speaker 5: all of these assets, let's create something and tell the
- 12:59Speaker 5: world that this is the place to come if you
- 13:01Speaker 5: want to do those things. So that's where bike City
- 13:03Speaker 5: USA comes from. You know, we want to tell the
- 13:05Speaker 5: world that if you're into cycling, whether it's road racing,
- 13:08Speaker 5: gravel riding, mountain biking BMX, you can do all of
- 13:12Speaker 5: that here in Charleston, not only on our trails, but
- 13:15Speaker 5: we've got great locally owned bike shops and outfitters. We've
- 13:18Speaker 5: got public bike maintenance stations throughout the city. So This
- 13:22Speaker 5: is a great place for cyclists to come, but also
- 13:26Speaker 5: see live music, public art, great food, all of those
- 13:30Speaker 5: things right right here in Charleston. So Bike City USA
- 13:33Speaker 5: is this concept that we're creating and producing and amplifying
- 13:37Speaker 5: to the world that Charleston is the place to come
- 13:39Speaker 5: if you're into those things.
- 13:40Speaker 6: Talk with Tim Brady from the Charleston Convention and Visitors

- 14:01Speaker 6: kind of devetailing on that, Aaron Parker did a story
- 14:03Speaker 6: this past weekend. You can go back in the archives
- 14:05Speaker 6: a WV METRONWS dot com and take a look at it.
- 14:10Speaker 6: And with this, with the road racing that we had
- 14:12Speaker 6: last May tamp that's going to continue in Charleston, as
- 14:15Speaker 6: you said, for the next four years.
- 14:16Speaker 5: Correct, We've got four more years of the USA Cycling
- 14:19Speaker 5: Pro Road National Championships, including another Olympic year in twenty
- 14:23Speaker 5: twenty eight, which would be the last year of our
- 14:25Speaker 5: current contract. And then we've got some long term vision
- 14:27Speaker 5: to spin off and create sustainable cycling events in the
- 14:31Speaker 5: city beyond that five year contract. You know the Criteria
- 14:34Speaker 5: or what folks in the industry affectionately called the crit
- 14:38Speaker 5: the Criterium on Thursday and Friday nights last year, the
- 14:40Speaker 5: little one mile circuit around the center of the city
- 14:45Speaker 5: hugely popular, great for spectating, getting people out, eating, drinking,
- 14:50Speaker 5: having a good time. We want to create a sustained
- 14:52Speaker 5: long term crit Series race here in Charleston that would
- 14:55Speaker 5: become an annual event. But we want to go beyond
- 14:57Speaker 5: just racing and that part of it too. And there's
- 14:59Speaker 5: another component to this concept of bikes at a USA,
- 15:01Speaker 5: and that is getting people, especially kids, out and active
- 15:05Speaker 5: on bikes. We want to work to get more kids
- 15:08Speaker 5: on bikes. We partnered with the Charleston cern wil Regatta
- 15:10Speaker 5: last year and gave away one hundred bikes to kids
- 15:13Speaker 5: from our community who needed new bikes. We're looking at
- 15:15Speaker 5: some other programming to get bike curriculum into schools and
- 15:19Speaker 5: get kids again on bikes, healthier, learning that there are
- 15:22Speaker 5: also opportunities in cycling, whether it be certainly competitive racing,
- 15:27Speaker 5: but even as far as like bike maintenance, bike working
- 15:31Speaker 5: in a bike shop. There are opportunities. And it might
- 15:33Speaker 5: seem small now, but there are opportunities presented by cycling.
- 15:36Speaker 5: And again we've got this great four year national platform
- 15:39Speaker 5: to start amplifying that message.
- 15:42Speaker 3: Refresh my memory a bit, tim What was the economic
- 15:45Speaker 3: impact for the city.
- 15:46Speaker 5: Four point six last year during USA Cycling's Proto National Championships.
- 15:50Speaker 5: And I am bullish in saying that I think it'll
- 15:54Speaker 5: increase this year because we went into it last year
- 15:57Speaker 5: without a lot of community understanding of what the really was.
- 16:00Speaker 6: And you guys were kind of flying blind too, because
- 16:03Speaker 6: even though you're great at what you do. I mean,
- 16:06Speaker 6: as one of my former coworkers used to say, you
- 16:08Speaker 6: don't know what you don't know.
- 16:09Speaker 4: That's exactly.
- 16:09Speaker 6: So you got your legal pad and you're taking notes,
- 16:12Speaker 6: going Okay, this didn't work, this did work, that kind
- 16:15Speaker 6: of thing.
- 16:15Speaker 5: I carried a little pocket notebook around with me that
- 16:17Speaker 5: entire week and it was full by the end of
- 16:19Speaker 5: the week. Because you're right, we didn't know what we
- 16:21Speaker 5: were doing going into it. We trusted USA Cycling and
- 16:23Speaker 5: their production company, Medalist, and they did a great job.
- 16:27Speaker 3: They pulled off a great race.
- 16:28Speaker 5: We learned a lot. I think the community learned a lot.
- 16:30Speaker 5: I think we're going to get more people out. I
- 16:32Speaker 5: heard over and over again. Oh, I'm inviting friends and
- 16:35Speaker 5: family to come in next year to watch this because
- 16:37Speaker 5: this is so cool. So I think we're going to
- 16:39Speaker 5: see tourism numbers increase. I think we're going to see
- 16:42Speaker 5: more locals out watching this year because now there's a
- 16:45Speaker 5: greater understanding in the community of what this is. And again,
- 16:48Speaker 5: bringing it right back to we've got this platform, we've
- 16:51Speaker 5: got all of this buy in in the community. What
- 16:54Speaker 5: can we do to make Charleston a better place? Make
- 16:56Speaker 5: our community a better place? While we have this opportunity
- 17:00Speaker 5: in front.
- 17:00Speaker 3: Of us, let's talk about the Capital Connector project.
- 17:03Speaker 6: I know that's something that you folks at the CVB
- 17:05Speaker 6: I would think are squarely behind.
- 17:07Speaker 5: Certainly, I've written a multitude of support letters for that project.
- 17:12Speaker 3: All Right, what is it about this that you likes?
- 17:14Speaker 4: Specifically?
- 17:14Speaker 5: What's it going to bring the Capital Connector? Yeah, I
- 17:17Speaker 5: think it does several things. It's another amenity for visitors.
- 17:21Speaker 5: It's something else for us to sell to visitors coming
- 17:24Speaker 5: into Charleston. If you're staying at one of the hotels
- 17:27Speaker 5: and you bring your bike along, you've got this great
- 17:30Speaker 5: now citywide cycling and walking path. That for me the
- 17:35Speaker 5: big thing as someone who lives here. Now you have
- 17:38Speaker 5: full connectivity from one end of the city to the
- 17:40Speaker 5: other with the Capital Connector, and it makes a safer
- 17:43Speaker 5: space for cycling and biking along the river front. So
- 17:47Speaker 5: the Capital Connector project to me is incredibly important, and
- 17:53Speaker 5: again it's just more opportunity for us to sell this
- 17:57Speaker 5: city as this bike friendly destination in the mid Atlantic.
- 18:03Speaker 6: All right, before we let you go, and I'm gonna
- 18:06Speaker 6: have you on several times before we get into the
- 18:08Speaker 6: Vincent May, we'll talk about the numbers from the state
- 18:10Speaker 6: football championships. We had you on, I think after the
- 18:13Speaker 6: show last time. But again, just like with this first time,
- 18:16Speaker 6: it was the first time that Charleston hosted it in
- 18:18Speaker 6: what twenty twenty years, thirty thirty years or so, came
- 18:22Speaker 6: back to Charleston.
- 18:25Speaker 3: Overall a big success, I would.
- 18:26Speaker 5: Think, enormous success. I don't have the numbers in front
- 18:30Speaker 5: of the Night, But I think on average, you can't
- 18:33Speaker 5: compare apples to apples with Wheeling because they had three
- 18:37Speaker 5: games over those thirty years.
- 18:38Speaker 4: We had four games.
- 18:39Speaker 5: But if you look at average attendance, average attendance was
- 18:42Speaker 5: up about twenty percent. Ticket sales were up. We saw
- 18:47Speaker 5: visitor spending in the city up about ten percent that weekend,
- 18:50Speaker 5: so we know it was driving visitation. Anecdotally, the saturday
- 18:54Speaker 5: that Gomart Ballpark hit their peak record attendance number for
- 18:57Speaker 5: Light the Night was the Saturday of the Triple A game,
- 19:00Speaker 5: which was Herbert Hoover and Bridgeport, which was the largest
- 19:02Speaker 5: crowd that weekend, And we know anecdotally that there were
- 19:06Speaker 5: people there in Hoover and Bridgeport gear at the ballpark.
- 19:10Speaker 5: My good friend Evan Osborne, the executive director at Capitol Market,
- 19:14Speaker 5: had a great weekend for his holiday weekend holiday promotions
- 19:20Speaker 5: that weekend. Also Hoover and Bridgeport shirts at Capital Market.
- 19:23Speaker 5: So we know that those people were out. Those folks
- 19:27Speaker 5: that came to Charleston for those games were out and
- 19:29Speaker 5: doing things in our city, which is what we wanted.
- 19:32Speaker 5: So again, we're super excited about how football turned out.
- 19:36Speaker 5: You know, we got through the weekend without major incident.
- 19:39Speaker 5: Everything went off as planned quite frankly, except for some
- 19:41Speaker 5: minor issues with the play clocks and a couple of
- 19:44Speaker 5: other small things. But it was a great weekend of football.
- 19:47Speaker 5: We saw increased attendance, and we saw a lot of
- 19:50Speaker 5: community enthusiasm for the Football Championships. And we have to
- 19:53Speaker 5: also include Cheer in that because that was also our
- 19:56Speaker 5: first time hosting cheer in the last five years, and they,
- 20:00Speaker 5: because of some injunctions, happened to be the same weekend.
- 20:01Speaker 5: But it was a great weekend and Targe worked out.
- 20:03Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 20:03Speaker 6: And I said this about last weekend, Tim, I mean
- 20:06Speaker 6: last weekend we had the Hunting and Fishing Show going
- 20:08Speaker 6: on Friday night. I was at the I was at
- 20:10Speaker 6: the Collie Semen Convention Center both Friday and Saturday. But
- 20:12Speaker 6: Friday night we had Parker McCollums show, major major country
- 20:16Speaker 6: acting Charleston. We had the reds Caravan, very well attended.
- 20:19Speaker 6: That was in the theater, and then we had Day
- 20:22Speaker 6: one of the Hunting and Fishing Show. And I haven't
- 20:26Speaker 6: talked to Jim Straw about that, but I will I
- 20:28Speaker 6: would imagine because I was there on Saturday afternoon. You
- 20:30Speaker 6: literally there were so many people there for the Hunting
- 20:33Speaker 6: and Fishing show Saturday afternoon that you had to walk
- 20:35Speaker 6: sideways to be able to get through the crowd. It
- 20:38Speaker 6: was the same on Sunday as well. We just keep
- 20:40Speaker 6: having more and more of these things like that.
- 20:42Speaker 5: And I think, Dave, you've you've brought me around to
- 20:44Speaker 5: a topic that I just want to spend a minute on.
- 20:46Speaker 5: And I think we've kind of cracked the coat a
- 20:48Speaker 5: little bit on something, and that is you know, I
- 20:50Speaker 5: think in the old days and in prior you know, generations,
- 20:54Speaker 5: people looked at, well, I want to do this event,
- 20:57Speaker 5: but I want to find a clean weekend where there's
- 20:58Speaker 5: nothing else going on. I think that's that's the exact
- 21:00Speaker 5: wrong mentality. I think putting things together on weekends and
- 21:04Speaker 5: making the city a more robust and vibrant place with
- 21:07Speaker 5: lots of activity. Yes, sometimes you have to make choices,
- 21:10Speaker 5: but selfishly, from the visitors Bureau standpoint, the more things
- 21:13Speaker 5: we pack into a weekend, the more vibrant the city is,
- 21:16Speaker 5: and the more able we are to attract visitors to come.
- 21:19Speaker 5: Because you're not coming for one thing, you're now able
- 21:22Speaker 5: to come for two or three things. So when we
- 21:23Speaker 5: look at organizations in the city and event planners in
- 21:27Speaker 5: the city. I think it's time for us to turn
- 21:29Speaker 5: our attention away from trying to find our own standalone
- 21:32Speaker 5: weekend or day and start saying, what weekend can we
- 21:37Speaker 5: put this event on? How can we collaborate? We got
- 21:40Speaker 5: to get out of the mindset of competition and get
- 21:42Speaker 5: into a mindset of collaboration and say how can we collaborate?
- 21:46Speaker 5: And we're looking to bring this full circle. We're looking
- 21:48Speaker 5: at that with USA Cycling this year, how can we
- 21:51Speaker 5: find other things to do that weekend so that if
- 21:54Speaker 5: you're coming in for that event, you get to see
- 21:55Speaker 5: some great cycling. If you're coming in for the cycling,
- 21:57Speaker 5: you get all this great entertainment as well. So it's
- 22:00Speaker 5: not about competition anymore. It's about collaboration, and that last
- 22:04Speaker 5: weekend at the Coliseum and Convention Center is a perfect
- 22:07Speaker 5: example of that. Dave, I'm glad you brought that up.
- 22:09Speaker 3: All right, all right, So, well's Tim.
- 22:10Speaker 6: It's always a pleasure to have you on the show.
- 22:12Speaker 6: Some exciting stuff going on. We'll talk again soon, man,

- 25:30Speaker 6: were dealing with snow all month now it's rain and
- 25:33Speaker 6: it's a lot of it.
- 25:34Speaker 8: Now.
- 25:35Speaker 6: I don't have any reports of flooding here in the
- 25:38Speaker 6: immediate area, however, getting some alerts on my phone here
- 25:41Speaker 6: from southern West Virginia. There are some areas that are
- 25:43Speaker 6: dismissing schools early. And this was expected to be a
- 25:46Speaker 6: much bigger problem in the mountains in the eastern part
- 25:49Speaker 6: of West Virginia because they still got a lot of snow.
- 25:51Speaker 6: We still got snow on the ground, but not nearly
- 25:53Speaker 6: as much as what they do, and so it's supposed
- 25:55Speaker 6: to be a real real issue there. Will of course
- 25:57Speaker 6: keep you updated throughout the day on that situation, but
- 26:00Speaker 6: that we do have a flood warning in effect for
- 26:02Speaker 6: Kanawa County and the surrounding areas for some time. So
- 26:06Speaker 6: just keep your radio on, keep us online, and we'll
- 26:08Speaker 6: keep you update. I got a quick text here it says, Dave,
- 26:11Speaker 6: any word in the rumor that the town center is
- 26:13Speaker 6: completely closing now, I mean, I'm not that.
- 26:17Speaker 3: I'm aware of. I will say it might not surprise
- 26:21Speaker 3: me if that announcement were to come. I don't know.
- 26:23Speaker 6: I hate to speculate on things like that. Coming up
- 26:25Speaker 6: on Monday Show, Charleston mer or Amy Schuler Goodwin is
- 26:28Speaker 6: going to be here. So if you have any questions, comments,
- 26:30Speaker 6: or concerns for the mayor or anything else going on
- 26:32Speaker 6: the city, now as your chance. Also we're going to talk.
- 26:35Speaker 6: And I got my fingers crossed on this that the
- 26:36Speaker 6: schedule work out. It was announced, as I said at
- 26:39Speaker 6: the top of the show, that we do do we
- 26:40Speaker 6: have a new States senator in district date and that
- 26:43Speaker 6: is Kevin Bartlett. He was appointed to that position by
- 26:45Speaker 6: the governor. I talked to the senator. I guess he's
- 26:49Speaker 6: technically sentenced, well if he's a senatorially sworn in or out,
- 26:52Speaker 6: But anyway, I talked to him last night. I've got
- 26:54Speaker 6: him scheduled to be on the show on Monday. However,
- 26:57Speaker 6: got to kind of work around the whole swearing end thing,
- 26:59Speaker 6: so we'll see what happens. I talked to Cabin again
- 27:01Speaker 6: last night, so hopefully he's.
- 27:02Speaker 3: Going to be in the show on Monday. That brings
- 27:05Speaker 3: us to this guy, Greg Thomas is here. How you doing?
- 27:07Speaker 2: Man?
- 27:07Speaker 4: Doing a right buddy? How are you I'm doing?
- 27:08Speaker 3: Faed.
- 27:09Speaker 6: I'm glad to know that I wasn't the only one
- 27:10Speaker 6: that was suffering because you said that last week you
- 27:13Speaker 6: were feeling little under the weather, and I've been battling
- 27:15Speaker 6: the cold all week.
- 27:16Speaker 3: So it is that season, my.
- 27:18Speaker 4: Friend, It is.
- 27:19Speaker 2: It is.
- 27:20Speaker 4: I still I can't shake it, man. I mean, I
- 27:21Speaker 4: feel a lot better than I did last week, but
- 27:23Speaker 4: it's just I can't seem to get rid of it.
- 27:25Speaker 6: Well, we're going to suck it up for the next
- 27:27Speaker 6: thirty minutes or so, you and I. I mentioned that
- 27:31Speaker 6: we now have one of those Senate seats that was
- 27:33Speaker 6: filled by Kevin Bartlett. Now, Kevin is a former House
- 27:38Speaker 6: of Delegates member, and then he was appointed to that position.
- 27:41Speaker 6: There were three names that were submitted. I'm presuming by
- 27:43Speaker 6: there and this, the eighth district is the one now,
- 27:47Speaker 6: and if I'm wrong, you jump in here. The eighth
- 27:49Speaker 6: district is the one that encompasses a lot of areas, right, Yeah,
- 27:52Speaker 6: because there's portions of Clay County and Rhan and others.
- 27:55Speaker 4: Yeah, the eighth is essentially like downtown Charleston going out
- 27:59Speaker 4: toward Life Cross Lanes, UH goes over into UH north
- 28:04Speaker 4: of the river in Putnam grabs like southern Jackson Roan,
- 28:10Speaker 4: And I think I don't know if it's all a
- 28:12Speaker 4: clay or a bit of clay or something like that.
- 28:14Speaker 3: So it goes a lot of area.
- 28:15Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a it's pretty widespread.
- 28:18Speaker 7: You know.
- 28:18Speaker 4: This is the seat that Mark Hunt was elected in
- 28:22Speaker 4: a couple of years ago, and then obviously he was
- 28:24Speaker 4: elected as the state's auditor, which created an an opening.
- 28:29Speaker 4: There were three names that the and I do think
- 28:32Speaker 4: Diana Graves, who's sort of the outgoing chairman of the
- 28:36Speaker 4: Kenwall County Republican Party, did a really good job with this.
- 28:38Speaker 3: Process because she's she took a seat in the more seats.
- 28:41Speaker 4: Yeah, she's with the Senior Services and uh, you know,
- 28:45Speaker 4: she's a she's been for a long time friend of mine.
- 28:47Speaker 4: She's she's done a really really good job with that.
- 28:49Speaker 2: Uh.
- 28:49Speaker 4: But they put forth three pretty good names. I mean,
- 28:51Speaker 4: there are three really good names. I thought. I mean
- 28:53Speaker 4: Mac Warner obviously, are you know, I know you're you
- 28:55Speaker 4: would work with Mac in the Secretary of State's office.
- 28:58Speaker 4: You know, longtime veteran. The Warners have been a you know,
- 29:01Speaker 4: political family in West Virginia for decades. It was a
- 29:05Speaker 4: guy named doctor Stephen Eschenower, a veteran Real's Eagle Scout
- 29:10Speaker 4: real active in scouting. He was the medical director for
- 29:12Speaker 4: the Summit Back to Reserve and has been real active
- 29:14Speaker 4: with that organization. And he was also recently or during
- 29:19Speaker 4: the Justice administration, was named chair of the Public Health
- 29:23Speaker 4: Advisory Committee. You know, so look, I think that's I'm
- 29:27Speaker 4: glad to see that mac uh. You know it still
- 29:30Speaker 4: wants to serve, right, I mean, this is a guy
- 29:31Speaker 4: that's been in you know, he served his whole life,
- 29:34Speaker 4: you know, still has some some interest in helping out.
- 29:37Speaker 4: I think this name, doctor Stephen Ashenower is one that's
- 29:40Speaker 4: gonna come up again. I mean, I think this guy's
- 29:42Speaker 4: got a really, really solid resume. I don't see that
- 29:46Speaker 4: guy going away.
- 29:48Speaker 8: Uh.
- 29:48Speaker 4: You know, Bartlett is one that he was appointed I
- 29:52Speaker 4: don't know what five years ago or something like somebody
- 29:55Speaker 4: uh served in the legislature, had a good voting record.
- 29:57Speaker 4: I mean, I think he's somebody that's one of those
- 29:59Speaker 4: down the line can conservatives.
- 30:01Speaker 3: Church pastor by trade.
- 30:03Speaker 4: Yeah, probably probably. I'm sure he's more focused on the
- 30:08Speaker 4: social issues than the business issues. But he had he
- 30:11Speaker 4: had an overall good voting record. I think this is
- 30:15Speaker 4: one that Morrisey probably just looked at it and said, hey,
- 30:18Speaker 4: I got three pretty good people here. Bartlett was an
- 30:21Speaker 4: early supporter of his helped Morrissey with kind of some
- 30:24Speaker 4: of his faith based efforts, you know. And when your governor,
- 30:28Speaker 4: you get to make the appointments. And I think he
- 30:30Speaker 4: picked the person that he knew the best and and
- 30:34Speaker 4: from what I can tell, you know, seems to be
- 30:36Speaker 4: a pretty solid pick. So, uh, you know, we'll see
- 30:40Speaker 4: he's going to come in here. I do think, you know,
- 30:42Speaker 4: I think there's a lot of people that see this
- 30:44Speaker 4: as an indicator that we've already seen some early signs
- 30:48Speaker 4: are you know, obvious not not not signs, But like
- 30:51Speaker 4: you know a lot of the state senators have come
- 30:53Speaker 4: out and said we're gonna be focused on social issues,
- 30:55Speaker 4: and I think this is probably you know, reinforces that
- 31:00Speaker 4: and uh and something that we're going to see a
- 31:01Speaker 4: lot of. But yeah, you know, I think it's uh.
- 31:05Speaker 4: I think everybody did a pretty job with this whole process.
- 31:07Speaker 6: But Dave Island Chilling five any line brought to you

- 31:28Speaker 6: Greg because again, you know, the House is the one
- 31:31Speaker 6: that always always been over there. Traditionally, especially the last
- 31:33Speaker 6: couple of years, have been kind of the wild cards
- 31:35Speaker 6: over there. I've had one had one state senator who
- 31:38Speaker 6: shall remain nameless, told me one time, he said, man,
- 31:40Speaker 6: those people in the House are crazy. Well, now it's
- 31:43Speaker 6: I'm not saying that the people in the Senate are crazy.
- 31:45Speaker 6: I'm not saying that, but I'm saying them well maybe
- 31:49Speaker 6: maybe maybe maybe you said that. Uh but uh but
- 31:52Speaker 6: but I think it's going to be at least starting
- 31:54Speaker 6: out very interesting in the Senate because you know, you know,
- 31:57Speaker 6: have a new you have a new leader, uh in
- 31:59Speaker 6: in in Randy and Randy Smith. And that was a
- 32:01Speaker 6: very contentious road to the to the top for him.
- 32:06Speaker 6: It was very you know, divided between himself, a.
- 32:09Speaker 4: Very very close vote, you know, a very close vote
- 32:13Speaker 4: to get the new set of presidency and uh yeah,
- 32:16Speaker 4: for sure.
- 32:16Speaker 6: Yeah, and that's gonna be one that I think is
- 32:18Speaker 6: definitely gonna be worth worth watching. It's the first time
- 32:21Speaker 6: I've had you on I think since President Trump returned
- 32:24Speaker 6: to office and since Governor Morrissey has taken over. Let's
- 32:26Speaker 6: start with Since we're talking about state stuff, let's talk
- 32:28Speaker 6: about Morrissey. What do you think of his first week
- 32:31Speaker 6: or so in office?
- 32:32Speaker 3: I mean, one thing I'll say about him, Greg he's there.
- 32:35Speaker 3: Oh yeah, Look, and he's doing as I said, and.
- 32:38Speaker 6: I'm gonna sa I'm gonna give I'm gonna give Governor
- 32:40Speaker 6: Morrissey credit. He's doing in person press conferences. He's taking
- 32:44Speaker 6: questions from the media as as he should.
- 32:47Speaker 3: It's not on zoom. It's not you get one question
- 32:50Speaker 3: or done.
- 32:50Speaker 6: Matter of fact, as I told the story on the air,
- 32:52Speaker 6: the first press conference that he had, I was told
- 32:55Speaker 6: by I wasn't there, but by people that were covering
- 32:57Speaker 6: it that he went up to the press, the gaggle
- 32:59Speaker 6: of res corps and said was that, okay, h am,
- 33:03Speaker 6: I is this what you all need? What what a
- 33:06Speaker 6: refreshing way of doing things?
- 33:08Speaker 4: Well, look, Morrissey, you know, especially in comparison with the
- 33:11Speaker 4: last governor. And Morsey's a policy guy, right, I mean,
- 33:14Speaker 4: he's you know, he'd worked in he'd worked on Capitol Hill,
- 33:17Speaker 4: he's been a DC lobbyist. I mean, he's somebody that
- 33:19Speaker 4: understands political issues and government issues a lot, you know,
- 33:25Speaker 4: So I think he's comfortable with that, right, He's comfortable
- 33:28Speaker 4: standing up there and talking about these issues. You know,
- 33:31Speaker 4: he's he's been somebody that's been very aggressive trying to
- 33:35Speaker 4: get media as the attorney General. I mean, obviously I
- 33:38Speaker 4: think he's going to do that times ten now that
- 33:41Speaker 4: he's governor, you know, so, I look, he's going to
- 33:44Speaker 4: be very aggressive on that front, be out there all
- 33:46Speaker 4: the time. The budget, you know, the whole budget thing
- 33:50Speaker 4: seemed to be a little you know, they're going to
- 33:53Speaker 4: have to figure that out and and I don't I
- 33:56Speaker 4: don't know who's right, who's wrong, Probably a little bit
- 33:58Speaker 4: of each. They'll have to figure out that whole budget situation,
- 34:02Speaker 4: which they'll do though, I mean he's look, he's going
- 34:04Speaker 4: to have his State of the State here in a
- 34:05Speaker 4: couple of weeks. They're going to have to come out
- 34:06Speaker 4: and say, hey, here's where we are, here's you know,
- 34:08Speaker 4: here's our priorities. Have to work with the legislature on
- 34:11Speaker 4: that budget. What I think is very noticeable though obviously
- 34:16Speaker 4: is you know, Morrissey is mimicking stuff that Trump's doing, right, which, hey,
- 34:22Speaker 4: what Trump is more popular in West Virginia than any
- 34:25Speaker 4: other state in the country. Pretty solid political thing to do, right.
- 34:29Speaker 4: Trump came out with a ton of executive orders. Morrissey
- 34:32Speaker 4: came out at the beginning with executive orders, right, and
- 34:34Speaker 4: and some of them were actual policy things. Some of
- 34:37Speaker 4: them were more just, hey, here's guidelines or goals of
- 34:39Speaker 4: where my administration is going to go. Just in the
- 34:43Speaker 4: last week, you know, you've seen from Trump, you know,
- 34:46Speaker 4: the immigration crackdowns, and then you had Morrisy come out
- 34:50Speaker 4: and put out an executive order saying, hey, we're going
- 34:53Speaker 4: to follow this right like everybody in West Virginia that's
- 34:56Speaker 4: under everybody in West Virginia is going to work with
- 34:59Speaker 4: the FEDS on this immigration you know, deportation process. And
- 35:03Speaker 4: de E I was another one, right, the whole diversity
- 35:06Speaker 4: equity inclusion stuff. You know, Morrison came out with an
- 35:09Speaker 4: executive order there where I don't know if I don't
- 35:13Speaker 4: know if this is true or not. I don't you know,
- 35:14Speaker 4: I don't follow this issue as much, but I do
- 35:17Speaker 4: know that WU has already come out and said they're
- 35:19Speaker 4: getting rid of their DEI office, and.
- 35:21Speaker 6: Yeah, there seems to be some question as to how
- 35:22Speaker 6: they're going to do that. I know TJ and Dave
- 35:24Speaker 6: we're going to get into that on talk line Dave
- 35:26Speaker 6: Wilson a little bit later on. But I think that
- 35:28Speaker 6: they've had some there are some questions about that. The
- 35:30Speaker 6: Board of Governors at WVU, I think is supposed to
- 35:33Speaker 6: meet today and so I don't know that we'll have
- 35:35Speaker 6: a whole lot of news come out on that today,
- 35:37Speaker 6: but there seems to be you know, one one source
- 35:39Speaker 6: I read said that it was going to be not
- 35:40Speaker 6: that it's going away, but it was going to be
- 35:42Speaker 6: a a rebranding, uh uh, and and that that it
- 35:48Speaker 6: may take on a different form, that it's not going
- 35:49Speaker 6: to go away. Then I read something else that said, no,
- 35:51Speaker 6: it's it's going away.
- 35:53Speaker 4: Yeah, So it will be.
- 35:55Speaker 3: Interesting to kind of see how that all plays out.
- 35:57Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it will go way now, whether they
- 36:01Speaker 4: just you know, find jobs for all those people somewhere else.
- 36:04Speaker 4: I mean, w over the years has gotten to be
- 36:07Speaker 4: a situation where a lot of the Liberals that used
- 36:10Speaker 4: to work in Charleston have sort of found refuge there
- 36:12Speaker 4: and found jobs, and I you know, so I there
- 36:16Speaker 4: might be a little bit of a you know, I
- 36:19Speaker 4: think the conservatives here in Charleston would like to see
- 36:21Speaker 4: a little bit of a crackdown on that. But you know, look,
- 36:24Speaker 4: Morrissey's doing a lot of the things in supporting a
- 36:27Speaker 4: lot of the things that that Trump is out there
- 36:29Speaker 4: advocating for, which are wildly you know, popular in West Virginia, right.
- 36:34Speaker 4: I mean, these are all issues that you know that
- 36:37Speaker 4: are overwhelmingly you know, Trump's got a you know, the
- 36:41Speaker 4: majority of support of the country, the vast majority of
- 36:44Speaker 4: the support of West Virginia, and it makes perfect sense
- 36:47Speaker 4: for Morrissey to kind of go along as lines.
- 36:50Speaker 6: Going back to the ice raids in West Virginia, the
- 36:55Speaker 6: latest numbers I saw Greg said that the raid's got
- 36:59Speaker 6: seventy two people thirteen though we're already detained in state
- 37:04Speaker 6: and state institutions. So it's not been a thing and
- 37:08Speaker 6: there may be some exceptions, okay, but it's not been
- 37:10Speaker 6: a thing where they're going out to a certain business
- 37:13Speaker 6: and going you you you you're.
- 37:14Speaker 3: You're out of here.
- 37:16Speaker 6: Many of these folks have been people and across the
- 37:19Speaker 6: country too, not just in West Virginia that were already
- 37:22Speaker 6: wanted for something or or in many cases, like in
- 37:25Speaker 6: West Virginia with thirteen of them, they were already incarcerated.
- 37:27Speaker 4: Oh look, I think this is you know, they're sort
- 37:29Speaker 4: of getting the low hanging fruit, if you will, right,
- 37:32Speaker 4: I mean, I think this is the people that they
- 37:34Speaker 4: know have done something wrong here, done something wrong somewhere else,
- 37:38Speaker 4: has been identified as as kind of you know, potential
- 37:41Speaker 4: problem citizens, and they're doing it again. It's not like
- 37:46Speaker 4: immigration is something, you know, I think what West Virginia
- 37:49Speaker 4: probably has the least bit of immigration problem a problem
- 37:52Speaker 4: in the country, you know. So it's again, it's not
- 37:55Speaker 4: something and the DUI things the same, right, I mean,
- 37:56Speaker 4: other than the WU example, do we even know of
- 37:59Speaker 4: anybody else that at this And so again, it's not
- 38:02Speaker 4: issues that are huge, huge problems in West Virginia, but
- 38:06Speaker 4: they are issues that have overwhelming support to address in
- 38:09Speaker 4: West Virginia. And you know, so I think these are
- 38:12Speaker 4: these are some bigger lifts for Trump federal nationally, but
- 38:18Speaker 4: some easy wins for Morrissey locally.
- 38:21Speaker 6: Talking to Greg Thomas for Dave Allen showing five Any

- 38:34Speaker 6: ready knock out some texts?
- 38:35Speaker 4: Sure, buddy, I know I do.
- 38:38Speaker 6: We even brought TJ. Meadows in here. Who's he's We're
- 38:40Speaker 6: not putting you on the air yet. This is Greg
- 38:42Speaker 6: and Dave time buddies.
- 38:43Speaker 3: No, you know your role? No, I'm kidding. TJ.
- 38:46Speaker 6: Meadows is and hanging out and see. I think it's
- 38:48Speaker 6: because TJ and I share an office.
- 38:49Speaker 3: We don't have a TV in our office.
- 38:51Speaker 6: That's why he comes in early, just so we can
- 38:53Speaker 6: catch up on you know, the price is right or
- 38:55Speaker 6: something I don't know, text says Dave and Greg.
- 38:59Speaker 3: This will be for you to go ahead and get
- 39:00Speaker 3: your cough out.
- 39:01Speaker 6: I know you got into you're entering the sick bay here,
- 39:05Speaker 6: Hey Dave, how about the timeline of events January twentieth.
- 39:09Speaker 6: FAA director fired January twenty first, air traffic controller hiring
- 39:13Speaker 6: frozen January twenty second, Aviation Safety Advisory Committee disbanded January
- 39:18Speaker 6: twenty eighth. Buy out retirement demand sent to existing employees
- 39:21Speaker 6: January twenty ninth. First American mid air collision in sixteen years. Oh,
- 39:25Speaker 6: and there was one traffic controller working two towers. But
- 39:28Speaker 6: the common sense that is in quotation marks Greg. But
- 39:32Speaker 6: the common sense answer for the cause of the crash
- 39:35Speaker 6: was DEI hires Biden and Obamas stupid as as stupid does.
- 39:39Speaker 6: The President could have handled that better yesterday.
- 39:41Speaker 3: Greg.
- 39:43Speaker 4: Look, I think that they were coming after him. You know,
- 39:47Speaker 4: he was being attacked politically, so he attacked them politically.
- 39:51Speaker 4: Back is essentially what happened. I mean, for me, both
- 39:54Speaker 4: sides could have handled it better. None of us know
- 39:57Speaker 4: what actually happened.
- 39:58Speaker 9: You know.
- 39:58Speaker 4: I was listening to you your station on the way
- 40:01Speaker 4: in and a you know, an interview by somebody from
- 40:04Speaker 4: the FAFA that was saying it's going to take a
- 40:06Speaker 4: year before they will have put out a report that says,
- 40:09Speaker 4: you know, here's what happened in this situation. So look,
- 40:12Speaker 4: I think both sides could have handled it better. I
- 40:14Speaker 4: think something like this happens, everybody immediately tries to find
- 40:17Speaker 4: you know, how do I get some political advantage to it.
- 40:20Speaker 4: Look at the this is a tragic accident, right, This
- 40:23Speaker 4: is a tragic accident where Americans died, you know. So
- 40:28Speaker 4: I think there's you know, from my perspective, I think it's,
- 40:31Speaker 4: you know, how do we find a way to be
- 40:33Speaker 4: sympathetic and supportive. Certainly you want to find out why
- 40:36Speaker 4: it happened, though, to make sure something like that doesn't happen. Again,
- 40:39Speaker 4: it's obviously not something that happens very often.
- 40:41Speaker 6: But the President Greg took a lot of heat yesterday
- 40:44Speaker 6: even from some other Republicans for coming out and making
- 40:47Speaker 6: this a political thing.
- 40:48Speaker 4: Oh but again, knowing Trump, when you're somebody that's been attacked,
- 40:53Speaker 4: I mean, they tried to put this guy in jail forever, right,
- 40:55Speaker 4: they tried to take all of his money, they tried
- 40:57Speaker 4: to put his family. You know, they've attacked this guy
- 40:59Speaker 4: for he's going to attack back. I mean, it's just
- 41:03Speaker 4: the way the guy is. So I look, I think
- 41:06Speaker 4: both sides are attacking each other kind of politically here.
- 41:10Speaker 4: You know, I think we you know, there's gonna have
- 41:12Speaker 4: to be an investigation and you have to look at
- 41:14Speaker 4: the facts, find out what happened, make sure it doesn't
- 41:15Speaker 4: happen again.
- 41:16Speaker 3: Tech says, our motor scooter senator left a pretty low
- 41:19Speaker 3: bar for Governor. Patty Boy doing the basics shouldn't be
- 41:22Speaker 3: praised too highly. After all, Paddy Boy isn't thinking for himself.
- 41:25Speaker 3: He's just mimicking his dear leader Trump, you.
- 41:30Speaker 4: Know, if he wants to beget popular, though, it's not
- 41:32Speaker 4: a bad strategy. And look, Morse he's going to I mean,
- 41:35Speaker 4: Morsey has his own agenda. It's not like that's all
- 41:38Speaker 4: he's done. You know. He came out with the you know,
- 41:42Speaker 4: having the department that's going to be focused on the
- 41:44Speaker 4: regulatory stuff and all of that. I mean, I think
- 41:46Speaker 4: he's gonna have stuff that's there. There are just I
- 41:49Speaker 4: think people, Look, I think you need to understand. I mean, look,
- 41:52Speaker 4: I go out I do state politics for a living, right,
- 41:55Speaker 4: I recruit candidates, I work with candidates, I have government
- 41:57Speaker 4: relations clients and lobby at the capitol. Like is state based,
- 42:00Speaker 4: not that I don't have any federal but it's primarily
- 42:03Speaker 4: state based. And you need to understand when you go
- 42:06Speaker 4: out here and just deal with day to day people,
- 42:09Speaker 4: they're focused on the federal issues. Right. You go door
- 42:12Speaker 4: to door and go to something very rarely does somebody
- 42:15Speaker 4: look at you and say, K through twelve, education is
- 42:18Speaker 4: my number one issue. They almost always go to the
- 42:21Speaker 4: federal stuff because that's the stuff that's forced down their
- 42:24Speaker 4: throats all the time. Right, what are we talking about? Trump?
- 42:27Speaker 4: You talk about Trump all the time because it's Trump,
- 42:28Speaker 4: Trump Trump. You know, the federal issues are just sort
- 42:32Speaker 4: of what gets attention, and that's what people talk about.
- 42:34Speaker 4: So Morrissey would be you know, it'd be malpracticed to
- 42:37Speaker 4: not talk about the federal issues, even though it's not
- 42:40Speaker 4: really the most important thing he does every day. But
- 42:42Speaker 4: he's going to have to address that stuff because all
- 42:44Speaker 4: of the people around him and all the legislators. I mean,
- 42:48Speaker 4: you know, most of the legislators that are in this
- 42:51Speaker 4: legislature right now know very very little about state issues.
- 42:55Speaker 4: They know very little about state issues. They are getting
- 42:57Speaker 4: involved in politics driven by their interest in federal issues,
- 43:03Speaker 4: and so they get involved, right Trump Trump. A lot
- 43:06Speaker 4: of the people that are up there right now ran
- 43:08Speaker 4: for office because they wanted to support Trump. How does
- 43:12Speaker 4: being a delegate help Trump? Not really sure, but that's
- 43:16Speaker 4: why you end up talking about dui dei and immigration
- 43:21Speaker 4: and stuff that as we just talked about it's not
- 43:24Speaker 4: a pressing state issue, but it's addressed at the state
- 43:27Speaker 4: level because there's just so much interest in it among
- 43:30Speaker 4: the public and the political class.
- 43:32Speaker 6: But that statement, though, Greg, that you just made that
- 43:34Speaker 6: said that that a great number of the legislators don't
- 43:38Speaker 6: know a lot about state issues.
- 43:39Speaker 3: That's probably not going to make you very popular.
- 43:42Speaker 4: Well, they're new that Well, it's it's I don't know why.
- 43:46Speaker 4: I mean, it's just a reality though, right, I mean
- 43:48Speaker 4: they they will. I mean they're new, right, So they're
- 43:51Speaker 4: new and so that's what I'm saying, Like they run
- 43:55Speaker 4: on the federal issues and then they get here and
- 43:58Speaker 4: then it's like all right, and then p who have
- 44:00Speaker 4: to educate them on the state issues. So I'm not
- 44:02Speaker 4: saying the people that have been here don't know. It's
- 44:04Speaker 4: just so many people are new. Got that that's why
- 44:07Speaker 4: they get involved in this is I want to support
- 44:10Speaker 4: Trump I care about you know, you go in and
- 44:13Speaker 4: meet with the first time you go in and meet
- 44:15Speaker 4: with the first time candidate, whether it's state Senate or
- 44:17Speaker 4: House of Delegates or whatever, and you say, hey, what
- 44:19Speaker 4: are your top five issues? Four out of five at
- 44:22Speaker 4: a minimum are going to be issues that are federal issues.
- 44:24Speaker 3: Yes, you're right about that. I may knock out some
- 44:26Speaker 3: texts before we go to break. Text says Dave.
- 44:28Speaker 6: Why is it that Trump criticized the DEI hiring and
- 44:31Speaker 6: says that people should be qualified for the job. Well,
- 44:33Speaker 6: Trump's not qualified and most of his cabinet picture are
- 44:36Speaker 6: not qualified for the jobs either. Texas, Dave, I hear
- 44:40Speaker 6: the state is in worse shape than previously thought. We
- 44:42Speaker 6: are broke and we know help insight. Let's worry about
- 44:45Speaker 6: social issues that divide our communities, Texas, Dave. Not one
- 44:49Speaker 6: employer in these raids got fined or shut down. Wonder why, Texas.
- 44:55Speaker 6: Trump started out good in his dress yesterday. He was
- 44:57Speaker 6: the leader of the nation, needed the leader of the
- 44:59Speaker 6: nation to deserved for three minutes and thirty seconds. Then
- 45:02Speaker 6: he had to start blaming others and he'd been praised
- 45:04Speaker 6: upon himself. Sad he threw away a.
- 45:06Speaker 3: Big opportunity, says a Texture.
- 45:09Speaker 4: Text says, go ahead, I mean that like, I don't disagree.
- 45:13Speaker 4: I mean, well, I do disagree with not everything that
- 45:16Speaker 4: Texter has said, but they literally made it political in
- 45:19Speaker 4: their text. Right, It's like they're complaining about him many
- 45:22Speaker 4: political but then they make it political in their criticism
- 45:24Speaker 4: of it. It's what everybody's done in this situation. Everybody
- 45:27Speaker 4: involved in this has made this political, probably except for
- 45:31Speaker 4: the families of the people that were died in the.
- 45:33Speaker 6: Tragic final texts, Greg you're a Weasley Trump apologist, Weasley
- 45:38Speaker 6: says a text I've been.
- 45:39Speaker 4: I've supported Donald Trump since August of twenty fifteen. I mean,
- 45:44Speaker 4: I like I have, I have more than you know
- 45:48Speaker 4: doing it before ninety nine point nine percent of the
- 45:51Speaker 4: other Republicans West Virginia. I was a supporter of Trump,
- 45:53Speaker 4: but I'm still a supporter of Trump. I don't support
- 45:55Speaker 4: him blindly on every single issue and every single thing
- 45:58Speaker 4: he's ever said. I mean, I'd be silly to do
- 46:00Speaker 4: I support Donald Trump.

- 46:22Speaker 12: Americans for Prosperity, West Virginia's Pathway to Prosperity is a
- 46:26Speaker 12: bold roadmap to help principled policymakers rapidly transform the Mountain
- 46:31Speaker 12: state into a better place to live, work, and raise
- 46:33Speaker 12: a family. To do that, we encourage state leaders to
- 46:36Speaker 12: boldly adopt proven reforms that makes quality healthcare more affordable
- 46:40Speaker 12: and accessible, empower parents, and expand education freedom to every child,
- 46:46Speaker 12: rein in government spending, and cut taxes, allowing Mountaineers to
- 46:50Speaker 12: keep more of their hard earned paychecks. While the recent
- 46:53Speaker 12: work of the legislature has taken enormous strides toward breaking
- 46:56Speaker 12: down the barriers that hold our citizens back, now is
- 46:59Speaker 12: not the trying to rest on our laurels. Instead, we
- 47:02Speaker 12: must come together to double down on advancing freedom and

- 48:19Speaker 3: Greg Thomas is here.
- 48:19Speaker 6: Text says, let's face it, Donald Trump is off to
- 48:22Speaker 6: a terrible start, raising taxes and tariffs, trying to control
- 48:25Speaker 6: spending over which he has no authority, et cetera. We
- 48:28Speaker 6: are getting what he promised. I hope he will take
- 48:31Speaker 6: the early buyout, says a Texter.
- 48:33Speaker 4: I'll bet you if you surveyed the country right now,
- 48:36Speaker 4: a majority of the people would support what he's done
- 48:39Speaker 4: so far as president.
- 48:40Speaker 6: Well, they voted for him, the majority did, and based
- 48:43Speaker 6: on what he said, this is what he said he
- 48:45Speaker 6: was going to do.
- 48:46Speaker 3: Tex says. President Trump speaks the truth about the crash.
- 48:49Speaker 6: That's why he cited executive order to end DEI its
- 48:52Speaker 6: common sense, says a Texter. Agree with Greg says the
- 48:59Speaker 6: textra me. Philip on CNN tried to pin the blame
- 49:02Speaker 6: on the crash on Trump that night. Tex says, if
- 49:05Speaker 6: nothing else, the one positive to come from RFK, Tulsea
- 49:09Speaker 6: Elton or not Elton Elton, John Elon, I'm sorry, and
- 49:13Speaker 6: even Joe Manchin leaving the Democrat Party is they're now
- 49:15Speaker 6: seen exactly how insanely unhinged, nasty and evil their former
- 49:19Speaker 6: friends truly are.
- 49:21Speaker 4: I have no doubt about that, man. I mean, I look,
- 49:24Speaker 4: the Democratic Party just took one into the face, right
- 49:27Speaker 4: they You know, Republicans control everything almost everywhere, and all
- 49:34Speaker 4: you've seen from them over the last couple of months
- 49:37Speaker 4: is just a doubling and tripling down of the mistakes
- 49:40Speaker 4: they made to get in the minority. I mean, I
- 49:42Speaker 4: you know, the way they treat people and the way
- 49:44Speaker 4: they kind of you know, they're just so divisive, and
- 49:48Speaker 4: they're so controlling, and it's just those socialistic tendencies to
- 49:51Speaker 4: just control and push. That's the stuff that got them
- 49:55Speaker 4: in the minority. And they're gonna have to make some real,
- 49:58Speaker 4: real big changes if they expect to to be successful
- 50:01Speaker 4: in the upcoming elections Texas.
- 50:03Speaker 3: Trump feels attacked by legitimate questions. He's thin skin and soft.
- 50:08Speaker 4: I don't know if he's soft, he probably he's sensitive
- 50:12Speaker 4: to it, right, I mean, if you're attacked at the
- 50:13Speaker 4: agree he has I go back to what I said before.
- 50:16Speaker 4: I mean, once they try to put you in jail,
- 50:19Speaker 4: you know what I mean, Like, that's a that's a line, right, Like,
- 50:21Speaker 4: once they've crossed the line, once they've crossed the line
- 50:24Speaker 4: to attack you, where's the line for you to attack them?
- 50:28Speaker 4: And I think, look, do I agree with everything Trump says?
- 50:31Speaker 4: Would I have done it that way? I'm sure his
- 50:33Speaker 4: advisors didn't advise it that way? Right, Trump's Trump? Right?
- 50:37Speaker 8: Like that?
- 50:37Speaker 4: Like the last Texter said Hey, the first three and
- 50:39Speaker 4: a half minutes were great, and then he went off
- 50:41Speaker 4: on his stuff. That's what Trump does, and it's just
- 50:45Speaker 4: who it's who the guy is. But at the same time,
- 50:48Speaker 4: he's addressing issues that no other Republican will address, and
- 50:53Speaker 4: that's why there's so many people that support him and
- 50:55Speaker 4: that's why he got the majority of the votes in November.
- 50:58Speaker 6: Text says, oh, no, politics gets pulled medical who the thought?
- 51:00Speaker 6: Apparently not a Republican strategist.
- 51:03Speaker 4: So so we're so we're supposed to politicize plane crashes.
- 51:08Speaker 4: Are we're gonna politicize car crashes? Or we're gonna politicize
- 51:12Speaker 4: you know, bicycle accidents down Canaul Boulevard. I mean, like,
- 51:17Speaker 4: I guess, man, I guess, I guess I should know
- 51:22Speaker 4: more as a political consultant. I should know more about
- 51:25Speaker 4: FA regulations. That's my that's on me, lady, that's on me.
- 51:29Speaker 3: Uh Texas, And well, we don't know that there was
- 51:32Speaker 3: a lady.
- 51:33Speaker 4: We don't want to. Okay, whoever it was, I'm gonna
- 51:39Speaker 4: get whoever that is. Send me, send this, send us
- 51:42Speaker 4: something into Dave, like the f A Handbook, and I'll
- 51:45Speaker 4: read up on it for next.

- 51:48Speaker 6: If I have any live bride to apartment, your hometown
- 51:50Speaker 6: baseball team, the Charleston Dirty Birds, Texas. There's not one
- 51:52Speaker 6: out of compassion or empathy in Trump's body. I feel
- 51:55Speaker 6: so badly for the families of those impacted by the
- 51:57Speaker 6: airline tragedy. There were says a texture nineteen. Controller is
- 52:01Speaker 6: short at Reagan National and Obama Biden hiring practice is
- 52:05Speaker 6: all part of the reason Trump not always going to
- 52:07Speaker 6: say the right thing at the right time. Greg, It's
- 52:09Speaker 6: always a pleasure having the show man appreciate it. All right, GJ,
- 52:13Speaker 6: it's time for you to talk now. DJ Meadows he's

- 52:33Speaker 6: the show. We'll talk DEI at WVU, We'll talk Morrissy's
- 52:36Speaker 6: presser and Capitol. Waghs in yesterday saying hey, wait a minute,
- 52:40Speaker 6: we as in Congress control the purse strings.
- 52:43Speaker 3: Yeah, I caught that little bit of division there, just
