- 0:00Welcome back to Spy Trader , the only podcast helping you navigate the market while your coffee brews .
- 0:07I'm your host , Barry 'The Bull ' Bucks , and it is 5 am on Thursday , January 8th , 2026 , Pacific Time .
- 0:15We're coming off a slightly wobbly session yesterday , but the big question is : Are we just taking a breather , or is the record run set to continue ?
- 0:25The market is in a state of mixed consolidation right now , driven by the persistent AI theme and expectations for Fed easing .
- 0:33Yesterday saw the S&P 500 end down about 0.34% , snapping its multiday winning streak from alltime highs .
- 0:42The Dow Jones took the heaviest hit , falling nearly 1% , dragged down by weakness in Financials .
- 0:49But here’s the kicker : the Nasdaq Composite actually closed up 0.16% .
- 0:56The underlying AI story is just too strong , with massive players like NVIDIA and Microsoft posting gains , and Intel specifically jumping over 6% recently .
- 1:07We also saw Alphabet momentarily surpassing Apple in market capitalization , underscoring that shift in megacap leadership .
- 1:15Now , for the analysis .
- 1:17The biggest insight right now is the ' rotation trade .
- 1:20' While AI is the longterm driver , money is broadening out .
- 1:25We are seeing pressure on Financials , but cyclicals are picking up steam , especially since Q3 2025 GDP was a robust 4.3% .
- 1:36Meanwhile , the Health Care sector is quietly outperforming .
- 1:39The XLV ETF is a top performer yeartodate , driven by secular growth stories like the massive demand for Eli Lilly’s GLP1 drugs for obesity and diabetes .
- 1:51This rotation is supported by macroeconomic stability and the expectation for Fed easing .
- 1:58Remember , the Fed cut rates to the 3.50% to 3.75% range late last year , and moderating labor data supports the case for future cuts .
- 2:08Given this setup — resilient economy , easing Fed , and broadening market — our strategy needs balance .
- 2:15First , for core stability , maintain lowcost exposure with the Vanguard S&P 500 ETF , or VOO , to capture the strong 2026 earnings forecasts .
- 2:27Second , for growth , the AI theme is nonnegotiable , so stay focused on the Nasdaq100 via QQQ , or look at primary beneficiaries like NVIDIA .
- 2:38Third , capitalize on the rotation .
- 2:41Cyclicals are expected to see faster earnings growth .
- 2:45The Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund , XLF , is under recent pressure but is a classic cyclical rebound candidate once rates normalize .
- 2:54Finally , don't ignore fixed income .
- 2:58With the Fed nearing the end of the tightening cycle , highinterestratesensitive assets like the iShares 20 Year Treasury Bond ETF , TLT , offer potential capital appreciation as rates drop .
- 3:12That’s your playbook for Thursday , traders .
- 3:15Stay disciplined , and I’ll catch you next time here on Spy Trader .
