- 0:07Speaker 1: Second hour of the morning show.
- 0:10Speaker 2: How You Doing.
- 0:13Speaker 1: It is program fifty five seven in case you missed it.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Last week celebrated our twenty fourth anniversary, which means we
- 0:21Speaker 1: are now in year twenty five of this radio program,
- 0:26Speaker 1: and they said it would never last. Great to be
- 0:28Speaker 1: with you this morning. He is Jose, I am Preston,
- 0:31Speaker 1: and this is the gun writer. He is Lee Williams
- 0:34Speaker 1: gome oning Lee, how are you, sir?
- 0:36Speaker 2: Good sir? How are you? Congratulations on twenty five years by.
- 0:39Speaker 1: The way, Yeah, well you know we're just starting now,
- 0:42Speaker 1: You're twenty five. Twenty fifth anniversary will be a year
- 0:44Speaker 1: from now, but I appreciate that, Thank you very much. It's,
- 0:49Speaker 1: as you well know, being a conservative voice anywhere today,
- 0:55Speaker 1: whether it's in print or on podcast or on radio
- 0:59Speaker 1: or television, is not an easy thing. No.
- 1:03Speaker 2: The left is so so organized against any conservative voice,
- 1:07Speaker 2: and they raised their little finger. And there is a
- 1:10Speaker 2: thousand letters or phone calls that usually are from people
- 1:15Speaker 2: that have never listened to your show or read your stories.
- 1:18Speaker 1: It's fascinating to me to look at the arc of
- 1:22Speaker 1: your career, Lee, because and just let's just take a
- 1:25Speaker 1: quick second to kind of reset for people that might
- 1:28Speaker 1: have missed the first visitor to that you and I
- 1:30Speaker 1: have had a few years ago. How did the Gun
- 1:34Speaker 1: Writer come to be? What take us through your career
- 1:37Speaker 1: that led us to where we are right now and
- 1:39Speaker 1: what you're doing.
- 1:41Speaker 2: It was working as an investigative reporter at the Herald
- 1:44Speaker 2: Tribune in Sarasotaett now a Gannette paper. And I've always
- 1:48Speaker 2: been interested in guns because before I became a journalist,
- 1:52Speaker 2: I was in law enforcement for ten years. Before that,
- 1:53Speaker 2: I was in the military. I grew up in Minnesota.
- 1:55Speaker 2: I was always hunting and shooting. So I started writing
- 1:58Speaker 2: a pro gun blog for the newspaper. And then, of
- 2:03Speaker 2: course Gennett bought us about six years ago, and I
- 2:07Speaker 2: was the first one gone, and my editors soon followed that.
- 2:10Speaker 2: We were both both ticked off on the same day.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Thank god, Alan Gottlieb, who runs the Second Amendment Foundation,
- 2:18Speaker 2: waited until the next day. I get a call from
- 2:21Speaker 2: a friend who has another radio show, and he said, Hey,
- 2:23Speaker 2: Alan's gonna call you. Don't hang up on him. He
- 2:26Speaker 2: called and said, Hey, we'd like to like you to
- 2:29Speaker 2: work for us and continue, but more of a national scope.
- 2:33Speaker 2: So I started it around February twenty thirteen, and I've
- 2:37Speaker 2: been running ever since.
- 2:38Speaker 1: It has been amazing to see the impact that your
- 2:42Speaker 1: articles have. I with you, well, I would imagine that
- 2:46Speaker 1: you know that you've you've seen some legislative wins as
- 2:50Speaker 1: a result of your work.
- 2:52Speaker 2: We have, and it's it's always gratifying. I mean, here
- 2:58Speaker 2: in Florida, nobody was ready for the open carry and
- 3:04Speaker 2: the constitutional carry. I think that's fantastic. But you know,
- 3:08Speaker 2: we started here with Marion Hammer and concealed carry, so
- 3:12Speaker 2: it's nice that we're finally catching up the rest of
- 3:15Speaker 2: the country.
- 3:16Speaker 1: You have written a couple of articles of late that
- 3:18Speaker 1: kind of juxtaposed where we are in America, though we're
- 3:22Speaker 1: still fighting for constitutional rights as it relates to the
- 3:26Speaker 1: Second Amendment in particular. But you did a wonderful job
- 3:30Speaker 1: explaining what's been happening in Iran, And if you don't mind,
- 3:33Speaker 1: I like to take a moment to talk about the
- 3:34Speaker 1: first article and then maybe do a little bit of
- 3:37Speaker 1: a deeper dive into the historical context of what we
- 3:40Speaker 1: have here versus Iran. But you pointed out that Iran
- 3:44Speaker 1: has some of the strictest, most repressive gun control laws
- 3:47Speaker 1: in the world, yet they were finding firearms in the
- 3:51Speaker 1: hands of citizens.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean a gun in Iran, especially now, but
- 3:58Speaker 2: you know, before the current war took off, they weren't
- 4:03Speaker 2: allowed to own them. I mean, you couldn't own pistols,
- 4:06Speaker 2: you couldn't own shotguns. But now you know, they've killed
- 4:10Speaker 2: probably close to forty thousand Iranians been murdered by their
- 4:13Speaker 2: current government because they had no right to defend themselves,
- 4:18Speaker 2: they had no capability of defending themselves. It's just it's
- 4:21Speaker 2: absolutely crazy. I've studied Iran for quite a while once
- 4:24Speaker 2: when I was in the military. It's just it's so sad.
- 4:28Speaker 2: I mean, our Second Amendment protections have been in place
- 4:31Speaker 2: around two hundred and thirty eight years, but our politicians
- 4:34Speaker 2: now don't care. Are the anti gunner politicians? They just
- 4:37Speaker 2: don't care. They treat it with blatant disrespect. I mean,
- 4:41Speaker 2: look at some of these states out east. Look at
- 4:44Speaker 2: Virginia what they're doing. Look at Minnesota, my home state.
- 4:47Speaker 2: It's just it's terrible. And this two hundred and thirty
- 4:51Speaker 2: year protection of the First and Second Amendment, that's what's
- 4:55Speaker 2: kept this country free, I believe, and I think any
- 4:59Speaker 2: one of those forty thousand Iranians would have gladly given
- 5:02Speaker 2: their life if they're if they could arm themselves, but
- 5:04Speaker 2: they can't.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Joining us Lee Williams, thegunwriter dot substack dot com is
- 5:15Speaker 1: where you'll find his work. Subscribe you can get the emails,
- 5:18Speaker 1: the articles that come out and again support the work.
- 5:23Speaker 1: We try to link up with people that are like minded.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Lee.
- 5:27Speaker 1: You you know, I had mentioned that with the best
- 5:29Speaker 1: of intentions, sometimes not with a lot of wisdom. But
- 5:32Speaker 1: we create these vacuums in places around the Middle East
- 5:35Speaker 1: and perhaps even other places. And there's a common rule
- 5:38Speaker 1: that our founders understood two hundred and fifty years ago
- 5:42Speaker 1: as they were crafting this country's constitution, and that is
- 5:45Speaker 1: that an unarmed citizenry is going to have a dictator
- 5:49Speaker 1: over it in one form or fashion. And that's what
- 5:52Speaker 1: we're seeing. What we've seen in Iran, the vacuum is
- 5:55Speaker 1: always filled by the guys with guns.
- 5:57Speaker 2: One hundred percent. They're shooting people in Iran like it's
- 6:02Speaker 2: cool to make a political point. And I you know,
- 6:06Speaker 2: as an American, I know that everybody in their mind
- 6:09Speaker 2: and everybody and their brothers just tore up about this.
- 6:12Speaker 2: They're going around the streets and gunning down unarmed Iranians
- 6:16Speaker 2: to make a political point. I've never seen anything like it.
- 6:20Speaker 2: It's uh, it's it's mind blowing. Well, which of these
- 6:25Speaker 2: people don't have the ability to shoot back?
- 6:28Speaker 1: Yeah, that's the thing, and now I have Look, I
- 6:31Speaker 1: want to I want to take advantage of your background
- 6:33Speaker 1: in military and law enforcement. I don't see any way
- 6:37Speaker 1: for this to have a resolution that is going to
- 6:40Speaker 1: be lasting without some form, whether it's Americans, a coalition,
- 6:45Speaker 1: Israeli's boots on the ground, creating space and handing out weaponry.
- 6:51Speaker 2: You know, they need the Kurds to come in. The
- 6:53Speaker 2: Curds are pretty well armed. But yeah, I mean your
- 6:56Speaker 2: average Iranian going out and trying to take a gun
- 6:59Speaker 2: from a Radian security officer, he's going to get killed. Sure,
- 7:02Speaker 2: there might be one or two that are successful, but
- 7:04Speaker 2: one or two guys does not do anything in this
- 7:07Speaker 2: war against the Iranian regime. So I think we need
- 7:11Speaker 2: we need firearms, we need to train them. I don't
- 7:15Speaker 2: think we need full blown military units there yet. Who knows.
- 7:20Speaker 2: I believe Trump when he says that they are talking,
- 7:22Speaker 2: they're talking about surrendering. It's just a matter of when
- 7:25Speaker 2: and how. I hope that is the case. It would
- 7:27Speaker 2: love to keep us in air war. We don't need
- 7:29Speaker 2: more boots on the ground in than the least I see,
- 7:31Speaker 2: especially in a country like Iran.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Yeah, I one hundred percent agree. I don't want it
- 7:35Speaker 1: to happen, But I'm just trying to think logically. How
- 7:38Speaker 1: do you get such a complete turnover where that military
- 7:42Speaker 1: lays down its arms and they assemble a new military
- 7:46Speaker 1: and you begin to give people a chance at having
- 7:49Speaker 1: freedom in that country.
- 7:50Speaker 2: Well, you're going to have to force the current regime
- 7:53Speaker 2: to see how badly things are. But these are not
- 7:56Speaker 2: reasonable people. They don't care that they're friends and neighbors
- 8:01Speaker 2: are getting killed by American bombs. They don't care at all.
- 8:06Speaker 2: All they want to to do is hang on to power.
- 8:09Speaker 2: So I mean, they'd sacrifice everybody in the country if
- 8:11Speaker 2: it kept them in power that bad. These guys need
- 8:14Speaker 2: to be taken out.
- 8:15Speaker 1: And that to me is the lasting lesson for America
- 8:20Speaker 1: as we look at the UK. I look at the
- 8:22Speaker 1: UK right now as they are on their way to
- 8:26Speaker 1: becoming Iran. They've allowed Islam much to come into the country,
- 8:30Speaker 1: They've disarmed their citizenry, and they are ripe for takeover.
- 8:35Speaker 2: One hundred percent correct. I've never seen anything like it.
- 8:40Speaker 2: I have relatives in Germany. They complain all the time
- 8:43Speaker 2: about parts of their major cities where they can no
- 8:45Speaker 2: longer go because it's not safe for Germans to go
- 8:48Speaker 2: down into their major cities England. I would write it off.
- 8:52Speaker 2: I mean, it's it's.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Gone back with Lee williamsthgunwriter dot substack dot com is
- 9:02Speaker 1: where you'll find his work and the latest story Lee
- 9:06Speaker 1: touches on. Somebody that has been a friend of this
- 9:09Speaker 1: program and to a lot of gun owners, not just
- 9:12Speaker 1: in Florida, but around the country. Marian Hammer.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I'd say she's been a friend to Florida gun owners,
- 9:20Speaker 2: especially Florida gun owners. Well, she filed a lawsuit. She
- 9:24Speaker 2: no longer works for NRA. She filed a lawsuit against
- 9:26Speaker 2: him last year, alleging they misappropriated her name, image of likeness,
- 9:30Speaker 2: and took a check. But NRA kicked out a kind
- 9:36Speaker 2: of an email story yesterday. They accuse her of using
- 9:41Speaker 2: profanity and being somewhat combative during a hearing. Evidently, she
- 9:46Speaker 2: told the NRA's attorney that he thinks he's got and
- 9:48Speaker 2: that he might be. She believes he's a bad word.
- 9:54Speaker 2: It's sad. Really. They said she threw water from her
- 9:58Speaker 2: glass at the NRA's attorney, which she denied to me.
- 10:02Speaker 2: I called her up and she denied it. Said he
- 10:04Speaker 2: and I claimed she tried to knock over his coffee.
- 10:08Speaker 2: She didn't recall that incident. They said they walked out
- 10:11Speaker 2: of this hearing because of her misconduct. She told me
- 10:17Speaker 2: she never threw water at anybody. She said, and I quote,
- 10:19Speaker 2: they worked me to death and didn't pay me. They
- 10:21Speaker 2: promised to pay me and didn't, so I'm suing for payment.
- 10:24Speaker 2: I have two lawsuits, one in Florida and one in Virginia.
- 10:28Speaker 2: They canceled my non cancellable contract I made seven years old.
- 10:32Speaker 2: About the attorney, who were not going to name. She said,
- 10:34Speaker 2: he's an attorney. You can't make a living, so he
- 10:35Speaker 2: stayed with the NRA all these years. He hates me
- 10:38Speaker 2: and he pushed it. I'm not doing well physically, so
- 10:40Speaker 2: they hope I will die soon and they won't have
- 10:42Speaker 2: to pay me. It's just a no win for anybody involved. Man.
- 10:47Speaker 2: I mean, remember she started Eddie Eagle nationwide gun safety
- 10:51Speaker 2: program for young kids. And if you carry a gun
- 10:53Speaker 2: in your in your pants. She's the reason why she
- 10:57Speaker 2: started Florida's concealed carry licensing and initiative, and she's just
- 11:01Speaker 2: been a tremendous friend to gun owners, especially those of
- 11:03Speaker 2: us here in Florida.
- 11:05Speaker 1: Lee, let me just look at one specific part of
- 11:08Speaker 1: this that you mentioned in the story. They want the
- 11:11Speaker 1: court to dismiss the lawsuit because they thought she was mean.
- 11:16Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a great way to put it. That is
- 11:19Speaker 2: that I should have led with that in the story.
- 11:22Speaker 1: I mean, I'm just like.
- 11:25Speaker 2: Words, she used bad words.
- 11:27Speaker 1: Man, doesn't that in a way? And again, I don't
- 11:30Speaker 1: know the specifics. I know Marian and I know she's
- 11:35Speaker 1: combative and she's not going to take crap from anybody.
- 11:38Speaker 1: I know that, and you do too. But the fact
- 11:41Speaker 1: of the matter is, doesn't this lend a little credibility
- 11:44Speaker 1: to her claim that they're just trying to outliver?
- 11:48Speaker 2: Yeah? I she did not. She had. Let me say this,
- 11:53Speaker 2: She has sounded better when I've spoken to her in
- 11:55Speaker 2: the past than she did yesterday. But the mind still there,
- 12:00Speaker 2: and there is no better Second Amendment related mind than hers.
- 12:05Speaker 1: Well, let me just ask you, as a point of fact,
- 12:08Speaker 1: is the NRA hurting for cash. I mean, is there
- 12:11Speaker 1: some reason why they might not honor an agreement.
- 12:14Speaker 2: They're always hurting for cash. It's just a matter of
- 12:17Speaker 2: when and how much. And they always they've always claimed
- 12:21Speaker 2: that they need more money. It's part of being the NRA.
- 12:25Speaker 2: I guess I don't know. I don't know how much
- 12:27Speaker 2: he's asking for, quite frankly, but if they want this
- 12:30Speaker 2: to go away, they should pay her and move on.
- 12:33Speaker 2: My humble opinion, Yeah.
- 12:35Speaker 1: If nothing else, call it a debt of gratitude and
- 12:37Speaker 1: call it a day. All right, let's just quickly update
- 12:40Speaker 1: everybody snapshot. Who is Patrick Tate a Domiak and what's
- 12:44Speaker 1: going on?
- 12:45Speaker 2: Well? Tate is a former Navy E six and I
- 12:52Speaker 2: got to tell you he's been charged with a whole
- 12:56Speaker 2: bunch of felonies. He's serving a twenty year sentence in
- 12:59Speaker 2: a federal print in New Jersey. He's completely innocent. I
- 13:03Speaker 2: spoke to he was picked up by the ATF. They
- 13:05Speaker 2: raided his home. They didn't find anything illegal, so they
- 13:08Speaker 2: made everything illegal. This was under Biden and under Biden's
- 13:11Speaker 2: ATF guy. They actually they lied about everything that they
- 13:17Speaker 2: found there. They said a toy machine gun was a
- 13:19Speaker 2: real machine gun. They said some automatic pistols were machine guns.
- 13:23Speaker 2: I mean, I'm surprised they didn't call him a machine gun.
- 13:26Speaker 2: So we're looking right now at trying to spur the
- 13:31Speaker 2: ATF into taking a good look, a new look, a
- 13:35Speaker 2: technical review of the evidence that was seized during there's
- 13:38Speaker 2: the former ATF search warrant. I mean, take anything that
- 13:44Speaker 2: they found there and prove to me that it's actually illegal.
- 13:47Speaker 2: You can't do it because Tate wasn't stupid. He didn't
- 13:51Speaker 2: have machine guns. He had a lot of parts and pieces,
- 13:55Speaker 2: And I think they really need to look at their
- 13:57Speaker 2: technical expert in this because I think he might have
- 14:00Speaker 2: lied under oath about the evidence he examined. I would
- 14:05Speaker 2: also like them to send a letter to the DOJ
- 14:07Speaker 2: regarding the prosecution, which outlines ATF concerned. And I spoke
- 14:11Speaker 2: to their head, guy Robert Cicada. He's the new head
- 14:15Speaker 2: of ATF. Although he hasn't had his comfort he's had
- 14:17Speaker 2: his confirmation, he hasn't been sworn in yet. He seems
- 14:20Speaker 2: a held a lot better than anything else anyone else
- 14:22Speaker 2: that's run that organization under a democrat.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Is this case on his radar since you talked to him, Yes, Yes,
- 14:32Speaker 1: all right, we'll have to wait and see Lee.
- 14:34Speaker 2: Thanks.
- 14:35Speaker 1: As always, we'll get an update. Hopefully we'll talk to
- 14:36Speaker 1: you again next month. Thank you, sir, my pleasure to
- 14:39Speaker 1: take care, all right, Lee williamsthegunwriter dot substack dot com,
- 14:43Speaker 1: twenty seven past the hour
