- 1:30Speaker 1: of the show. Ship does not like to come in

- 1:35Speaker 1: likes to run his life. You know, that's fine. Gives
- 1:37Speaker 1: me a chance to co host. Here in the studio
- 1:40Speaker 1: with me, I have the president of the Red Rowdy
- 1:44Speaker 1: Student Organization and my good friend mister Wren Delos Santos. Rin,
- 1:48Speaker 1: how are you doing?
- 1:49Speaker 6: Doing very good? On this day, Caleb, how about you?
- 1:51Speaker 1: Pretty good? Pretty good? Thanks for joining me today, you know,
- 1:54Speaker 1: getting us through the doldrums of summer where there's not
- 1:57Speaker 1: as much sports to talk about, so we got to
- 1:59Speaker 1: just you know, get hyped for what's happened in the
- 2:02Speaker 1: fall and not right.
- 2:03Speaker 7: I agree, it's it's a very rough two month period
- 2:05Speaker 7: where there's no Aggie sports.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Yeah, but we make do with what we got. So
- 2:10Speaker 1: we're going to talk today about read rowdies. I know
- 2:14Speaker 1: that it's it's an organization that's you know, kind of
- 2:17Speaker 1: not fallen by the wayside, but it's not quite as
- 2:19Speaker 1: prominent as i'd say, you know, maybe it used to be.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Like people know that Aggies love to get out and
- 2:26Speaker 1: support their teams, but I don't think they fully realize
- 2:29Speaker 1: how organized it is. So this is, you know, kind
- 2:31Speaker 1: of a public service announcement, if you will.
- 2:34Speaker 7: Yeah, So this is something that we at Texas A
- 2:37Speaker 7: and M call a call to arms for student orgs.
- 2:41Speaker 7: And I'm excited to talk about read rowdies. You know,
- 2:44Speaker 7: I'm very proud to be a rowdy. I've been a
- 2:46Speaker 7: rowdy for three years now. My first year was technically
- 2:50Speaker 7: a little bit unofficial, but I officially became a member
- 2:54Speaker 7: in the twenty twenty five the twenty twenty sixth season.
- 2:59Speaker 7: I've had some great memories. I've got to meet a
- 3:02Speaker 7: lot of great people. I'm excited to talk about read
- 3:05Speaker 7: more today.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Yeah, for sure. So you know, for like I said,
- 3:09Speaker 1: there's a lot of people that don't know what it is.
- 3:11Speaker 1: So just give us like a little brief rundown of
- 3:13Speaker 1: what read Rowdies this.
- 3:15Speaker 7: Yeah, So, read Rowdies is a student orgon campus. We
- 3:17Speaker 7: attend all the women's volleyball games as well as the
- 3:20Speaker 7: men's basketball games. We try to create a environment and
- 3:25Speaker 7: read and where it's very challenging for other opponents to
- 3:30Speaker 7: come in and think that they're going to have an
- 3:33Speaker 7: easy way through. We try and get in their head
- 3:36Speaker 7: trip a little bit, be as loud as we can,
- 3:38Speaker 7: hold up, hold up silly little signs so that everyone
- 3:42Speaker 7: can have a little laugh. And I believe that it's
- 3:46Speaker 7: just a great place to be.
- 3:48Speaker 1: So how did how did this get started? Where did
- 3:51Speaker 1: read Rowdies you know, get its origin?
- 3:53Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 3:54Speaker 7: So read Rowdy started in two thousand and one after
- 3:58Speaker 7: the men's basketball team moved from g Rowley White to
- 4:01Speaker 7: Read Arena.
- 4:03Speaker 6: G Rowley White, the.
- 4:04Speaker 7: Holler House on the Brasses classic to all the old
- 4:08Speaker 7: Aggs out there. Sure, but unfortunately, you know, read Rowdies
- 4:11Speaker 7: came Read Arena came in to take its place, and
- 4:17Speaker 7: students at the time really wanted to get more organized.
- 4:19Speaker 7: They wanted to create even harsher environments with the new
- 4:24Speaker 7: larger arena, and they felt like they could get an
- 4:28Speaker 7: organization together to make it. And what birth in March
- 4:34Speaker 7: of two thousand and one was read Rowdies. Since then,
- 4:38Speaker 7: we've been supporting all the athletic teams in Red Arena.
- 4:42Speaker 7: There have been many generations of Aggies who been part
- 4:45Speaker 7: of Read Rowdies, and they've all gotten to experience some
- 4:49Speaker 7: amazing things in their lifetimes. And here we are carrying
- 4:52Speaker 7: the church still and we're excited for this upcoming season.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Yeah. Absolutely, We've got a lot to be excited about
- 4:58Speaker 1: with reigning national champions in volleyball and Bucky McMillan getting
- 5:04Speaker 1: getting it going for the men's basketball team after last year.
- 5:07Speaker 1: So we'll get to that a little later. So for
- 5:11Speaker 1: the organization, I know that y'all do work hand in
- 5:16Speaker 1: hand with the athletic department a little bit. So what
- 5:18Speaker 1: do the logistics look like on game day. You know,
- 5:21Speaker 1: what are what are some things the y'all do before
- 5:23Speaker 1: you know the rest of the student population gets there.
- 5:26Speaker 6: Yeah, so we get to.
- 5:28Speaker 7: The arena before anyone else does well, other than like
- 5:31Speaker 7: athletic staff, but we're the first students on the site.
- 5:35Speaker 6: We get in early.
- 5:36Speaker 7: We set up a bunch of signs as well as
- 5:42Speaker 7: what the athletic department does is they spend a lot
- 5:46Speaker 7: of money on newspapers from the battalion. And what we'll
- 5:49Speaker 7: do is we'll set up all those newspapers in the
- 5:51Speaker 7: lower bowl of the student section so that students can
- 5:54Speaker 7: hold them up during certain times of the pregame and
- 5:59Speaker 7: during the game. We have all these really silly signs
- 6:03Speaker 7: in where we get to hold them up whenever something
- 6:05Speaker 7: happens during a game, or just to get into the
- 6:08Speaker 7: other team's head. And something what I find amazing about
- 6:12Speaker 7: read rowdies is that if we think that there's something
- 6:15Speaker 7: that we can do to create a better environment, get
- 6:19Speaker 7: more students to come out, or even create just a
- 6:23Speaker 7: more intimidating environment for the other team, we can pitch
- 6:27Speaker 7: our ideas to the athletic department and the staff, and
- 6:30Speaker 7: they've always been really great at hearing us out and
- 6:33Speaker 7: we've tried some amazing things because of it.
- 6:37Speaker 1: So you mentioned the newspapers from the Battalion. For those
- 6:39Speaker 1: of you all don't know, the Battalion is the student
- 6:41Speaker 1: run newspaper on Texas A and M University campus. So
- 6:47Speaker 1: how did that get started? I know that's kind of
- 6:48Speaker 1: a niche thing to do to print newspapers and pass
- 6:51Speaker 1: them out, especially in twenty twenty six. So where did
- 6:54Speaker 1: that tradition come from?
- 6:56Speaker 7: Yeah, so it's considered an old army tradition. It started
- 7:01Speaker 7: in the seventies at again g Rowley White when coach
- 7:05Speaker 7: Shelby Metcalf. There were some students camping out for the
- 7:09Speaker 7: TU game, and students are always camping out for twou
- 7:13Speaker 7: games and every sport.
- 7:14Speaker 6: Absolutely I know all about that.
- 7:16Speaker 7: But whenever they were camping out, the coach Shelby went
- 7:20Speaker 7: out and he asked the students to pass out a
- 7:23Speaker 7: bunch of newspapers so that whenever the other team was
- 7:28Speaker 7: being announced by like their their starting lineup, all the
- 7:31Speaker 7: students would hold up the newspapers as to indicate that
- 7:35Speaker 7: nobody cared who was playing and that we were ready
- 7:38Speaker 7: to play whoever was on that court.
- 7:41Speaker 1: Nice that's pretty cool. And now, of course the newspapers,
- 7:44Speaker 1: i'll say, btho insert team name here.
- 7:47Speaker 6: Yeah, it's it's really great.
- 7:49Speaker 7: It's really funny to see every student holding them up,
- 7:52Speaker 7: and then after the opposing team's name has been called
- 7:56Speaker 7: out and we're getting to announce our teams, we all
- 7:58Speaker 7: crumple them up and throw them in the air as
- 8:01Speaker 7: like a sign of celebration that we get to hear
- 8:03Speaker 7: our guys and yeah, we're the ones that are going
- 8:06Speaker 7: to be victorious that day.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Yeah, it definitely get gets read arena hype. It's a
- 8:10Speaker 1: great environment for sure. So you know you've been involved
- 8:14Speaker 1: with this for a couple of years. Now, how did
- 8:16Speaker 1: you how did you get into this? And how long
- 8:18Speaker 1: have you been doing it now?
- 8:20Speaker 6: Yeah, so I'd like to say I've been doing it
- 8:23Speaker 6: for three years.
- 8:24Speaker 7: One year was technically unofficial, but I've been doing this
- 8:27Speaker 7: now for two years officially. When I first came to
- 8:30Speaker 7: Texas A and M in twenty twenty four as a transfer,
- 8:34Speaker 7: I met some people at Aggie baseball games, and then
- 8:39Speaker 7: once I officially became a student and I was looking
- 8:43Speaker 7: to hang out with them, they informed me that they
- 8:44Speaker 7: were part of read rowdies. Unfortunately, I missed the application
- 8:47Speaker 7: deadline because I didn't know about it, so I was
- 8:50Speaker 7: kind of unofficial, and I kind of just hung around
- 8:52Speaker 7: and I helped out whenever I could. But when twenty
- 8:55Speaker 7: twenty five came around, I decided, you know, I'm going
- 8:58Speaker 7: to become an official member, and I applied.
- 9:00Speaker 6: I made it in, and.
- 9:03Speaker 7: I attended almost every home athletic event for basketball and
- 9:08Speaker 7: volleyball for the twenty twenty five and twenty twenty six season.
- 9:12Speaker 7: During the off seasons of both basketball and volleyball, our
- 9:17Speaker 7: current or our last president, Quinn Leith, came up to
- 9:20Speaker 7: me and he asked me if I was wanting to
- 9:21Speaker 7: become the president for this upcoming year. I felt honored,
- 9:24Speaker 7: you know, I felt like there was no way that
- 9:28Speaker 7: in one in a span of two years, I kind
- 9:31Speaker 7: of went from like a volunteer coach to head coach
- 9:35Speaker 7: in a way, and it really got me excited. And
- 9:40Speaker 7: I've been I've got so many ideas, so many plans,
- 9:44Speaker 7: and I'm excited to enact them all and do my
- 9:46Speaker 7: best to have read Rowdies as well as rid Arena
- 9:50Speaker 7: be the best place in the country.
- 9:52Speaker 1: So how different is this year going to be for
- 9:54Speaker 1: you going from you know, just a member to the
- 9:56Speaker 1: president of the organization.
- 9:58Speaker 7: Yeah, I know, like I I tend to be like
- 10:01Speaker 7: a very hands on approach guy, especially when it comes
- 10:03Speaker 7: to supporting my athletic teams.
- 10:05Speaker 1: Firsthand experience, Yes, I can attest to that if.
- 10:09Speaker 7: You've probably seen me at a baseball game as the
- 10:12Speaker 7: throat in the dirt guy, or solid three to four
- 10:16Speaker 7: years back at football games during the last couple of
- 10:19Speaker 7: years of Jimbo's era as the helmet guy, where I
- 10:23Speaker 7: wore a helmet in the first Bowl. So I know
- 10:26Speaker 7: that I've always been pretty hands on and wanting to
- 10:29Speaker 7: make the best venues in college athletics. For my fight
- 10:33Speaker 7: in Texas, Aggy's and I just want to bring that,
- 10:36Speaker 7: like the energy and these these elaborate and silly ideas
- 10:42Speaker 7: to read and read rowdies.
- 10:44Speaker 1: Sure, so, since you've been an Aggie, we've had some
- 10:49Speaker 1: We've had some pretty high highs and some pretty low lows.
- 10:51Speaker 1: But would have been some of your favorite moments since
- 10:54Speaker 1: you've been a member of read rowdies.
- 10:56Speaker 6: I'll give you a top three.
- 10:57Speaker 1: Okay, Yeah, it's hard to narrow it down.
- 10:59Speaker 7: Yeah, it's really really hard. The first one that definitely
- 11:02Speaker 7: comes to mind is women's volleyball against tu in twenty
- 11:07Speaker 7: twenty five. That was my first A and M versus
- 11:13Speaker 7: Texas win as a Texas A and M student, and
- 11:17Speaker 7: that moment will always stick with me.
- 11:19Speaker 6: The five set.
- 11:19Speaker 7: Thriller on Halloween Night where everyone had silly costumes and
- 11:25Speaker 7: it was I mean, and then it eventually led to
- 11:28Speaker 7: a national championship. I mean, you can, I can, like
- 11:30Speaker 7: just looking back on it, that moment just it was
- 11:33Speaker 7: a catalyst for everything I was going to be feeling
- 11:35Speaker 7: for the rest of that volleyball season.
- 11:39Speaker 6: Another moment is the win against Auburn in twenty twenty five.
- 11:44Speaker 6: I believe.
- 11:46Speaker 7: During the spring semester of twenty twenty five. Getting to
- 11:51Speaker 7: upset Auburn that day was amazing. And it's ironic because
- 11:56Speaker 7: I met some of my closest friends during that game
- 12:00Speaker 7: and everyone was just so high on energy, so high
- 12:04Speaker 7: on life, and I was just I was just really
- 12:08Speaker 7: really proud of my team that day, especially because I
- 12:12Speaker 7: also got to see my first jersey retiring for Wade
- 12:17Speaker 7: Taylor the fourth I got to see him come in
- 12:20Speaker 7: as a freshman, not as a student, but like I
- 12:22Speaker 7: watched his entire career as a fan, So seeing his
- 12:25Speaker 7: jersey get retired was a really special moment for me.
- 12:29Speaker 6: And then.
- 12:31Speaker 7: Last, but definitely, definitely not least, was Bucky McMillan's first
- 12:37Speaker 7: one hundred point game at Texas A and m oh yeah.
- 12:40Speaker 7: I got so used to high defense, low scoring games
- 12:45Speaker 7: for Aggie basketball that whenever we broke that hundred point barrier,
- 12:50Speaker 7: that's when I knew. I was like, man, this is
- 12:51Speaker 7: going to be an exciting, exciting time for Texas A
- 12:54Speaker 7: and basketball. And I'm very jealous of all these students
- 12:57Speaker 7: that get to come in and experience all all these
- 13:00Speaker 7: exciting moments that are upcoming and I only get to have.
- 13:03Speaker 6: Two years of it.
- 13:04Speaker 1: Yeah, the class of twenty thirty is definitely going to
- 13:07Speaker 1: be blessed in terms of athletic prowess here at this university.
- 13:10Speaker 1: It's also pretty insane to say that freshman, incoming freshman
- 13:13Speaker 1: or class of twenty thirty, that's a whole different decade
- 13:17Speaker 1: man world.
- 13:18Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 13:18Speaker 7: Being class of twenty six Yeah is very interesting, especially
- 13:22Speaker 7: as like a transfer, because I should have graduated, but hey,
- 13:26Speaker 7: here we are.
- 13:27Speaker 6: We're still here. We still got time, and I'm going
- 13:29Speaker 6: to make the best of it.
- 13:30Speaker 1: Yeah, you mentioned that Auburn game way to their senior year.
- 13:35Speaker 1: That was the end of my first full year at
- 13:38Speaker 1: A and M, and I remember being at that game.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Actually got out of an exam like twenty minutes after
- 13:43Speaker 1: the game started, and I had had to squeeze my
- 13:45Speaker 1: way into the second deck. But that was that was
- 13:48Speaker 1: an amazing game. That was so much fun to watch.
- 13:50Speaker 1: And you know, that brand of basketball was definitely very
- 13:53Speaker 1: different to what we have now, but that was definitely
- 13:55Speaker 1: one of the most electric games that they played in
- 13:58Speaker 1: that era.
- 13:58Speaker 7: I would say, yeah, if I remember correctly, there was
- 14:01Speaker 7: like a back to back dunk and.
- 14:03Speaker 6: We also got to stop on it.
- 14:05Speaker 7: I remember that it was just so electric, and like
- 14:07Speaker 7: I that's one of the very few moments where I
- 14:11Speaker 7: was like, this is one of the highest highs I
- 14:15Speaker 7: will feel in an athletic event. Sure, I'd say the
- 14:19Speaker 7: only other highest high that I have felt for an
- 14:23Speaker 7: athletic event was when we beat Texas in that baseball regional.
- 14:26Speaker 1: Yeah. No, that was definitely on.
- 14:28Speaker 7: That blunder at third base which gave us the winning run.
- 14:33Speaker 7: I'd say, like that moment is definitely right up there.
- 14:36Speaker 1: Sure, Yeah, no, we could we could talk all day
- 14:39Speaker 1: and all night about best Aggie sports moments. Yeah, that's
- 14:43Speaker 1: that's definitely a tough question to narrow down to just
- 14:46Speaker 1: one answer. But switching gears, getting a little more specific here,
- 14:51Speaker 1: the Aggi volleyball team under coach Jamie Morrison did win
- 14:55Speaker 1: the NCAA National championship this past season. It was a
- 15:00Speaker 1: great year, great year. First first national championship we've had
- 15:06Speaker 1: in anything that wasn't tennis or track and field in
- 15:08Speaker 1: a while, so that was pretty cool to see. You know.
- 15:12Speaker 1: So what are what are you looking forward to in
- 15:17Speaker 1: this upcoming season? How do you think coach Morrison and
- 15:20Speaker 1: you know, some new players on this squad, how do
- 15:22Speaker 1: you think they're gonna be able to defend their national championship?
- 15:25Speaker 6: Yeah? No, I uh.
- 15:27Speaker 7: First I want to say Jamie Morrison is definitely one
- 15:30Speaker 7: of the best coaches.
- 15:31Speaker 6: No, no, he is the best coach out there.
- 15:34Speaker 7: You know, not only of just like by his coaching
- 15:37Speaker 7: prowess and who like how he coaches, but who he
- 15:40Speaker 7: is as a person to It's kind of insane, at
- 15:44Speaker 7: least in my eyes, being as like a just like
- 15:48Speaker 7: as a lowly fan at one point, you know that
- 15:52Speaker 7: coach Morrison has like noticed who I am because I
- 15:55Speaker 7: will I'll remember the first game of volleyball this year
- 15:59Speaker 7: that we went to and he came up to us
- 16:01Speaker 7: and he said, hey, you guys have been absolutely electric
- 16:05Speaker 7: at baseball. Can you bring some of those traditions from
- 16:08Speaker 7: baseball over to volleyball.
- 16:10Speaker 1: I love it when I love it when coaches from
- 16:12Speaker 1: other sports notice, you know, what the fans are like
- 16:15Speaker 1: at the other arenas. Like, you know, we saw Bucky
- 16:17Speaker 1: come to olsen Field when he first got hired and
- 16:20Speaker 1: participate in that, and we've seen Mike Elcho come out
- 16:22Speaker 1: to Olsenfield as well. It's really it's really cool to
- 16:25Speaker 1: me when the coaches from other sports recognize each other.
- 16:29Speaker 6: But yeah, go on, yeah, I mean, it's it's great.
- 16:31Speaker 7: That's I think that's what makes like these coaches at
- 16:34Speaker 7: Texas A and M amazing as well as at Texas
- 16:36Speaker 7: A and M culture is that support is unwavering for
- 16:39Speaker 7: whichever sport that is playing. But going back to that
- 16:44Speaker 7: first game for this twenty twenty five year, when Jamie
- 16:48Speaker 7: came up to us and he he said that he
- 16:50Speaker 7: recognized us from baseball and wanted to bring some traditions
- 16:54Speaker 7: and some electric things over from baseball. Yeah, that that
- 16:57Speaker 7: made me feel stand out. You know, I was because
- 17:01Speaker 7: in my head, you know, I'm just some guy who
- 17:04Speaker 7: is just being as loud as they can at a
- 17:06Speaker 7: game just to be silly. But another coach from another team, uh,
- 17:12Speaker 7: decided that you know, we were worthy enough of like
- 17:17Speaker 7: their recognition and their praise, and that they wanted to
- 17:20Speaker 7: they wanted to bring that energy into their into into
- 17:24Speaker 7: their venue because it is his venue, you know, Like sure,
- 17:27Speaker 7: Red Route Read Arena is both basketball and volleyball, but
- 17:33Speaker 7: whenever volleyball is playing, you know, that is Jamie Morrison's venue.
- 17:36Speaker 6: You know, that is his atmosphere.
- 17:38Speaker 7: Sure, and like us for Reid rowdies, what we want
- 17:41Speaker 7: to do is create the atmosphere in his image.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Absolutely. So you know, pretty loaded home schedule for the
- 17:49Speaker 1: volleyball team this year.
- 17:50Speaker 2: Uh.
- 17:51Speaker 1: They do get started on the road in Wisconsin against
- 17:54Speaker 1: Louisville and SMU at the a VCA first Serve, but
- 17:58Speaker 1: then the Texas A and M invitation of the week
- 18:01Speaker 1: after that with Arkansas State, Grand Canyon University and cal
- 18:04Speaker 1: Poly and then a pretty big non conference game against
- 18:08Speaker 1: Wisconsin on September eleventh, and a few other good games,
- 18:12Speaker 1: and then of course you got the SEC Slate, which
- 18:14Speaker 1: is always really tough and a lot of fun. Unfortunately,
- 18:18Speaker 1: Texas does not come to Read Arena for volleyball this year,
- 18:20Speaker 1: but you know, we get LSU and Ole Miss and Tennessee,
- 18:24Speaker 1: so a lot of good matchups for sure. But you know,
- 18:27Speaker 1: what game are you most looking forward to?
- 18:30Speaker 7: I say the game that I'm looking forward to most
- 18:33Speaker 7: this year is going against with Wisconsin at home.
- 18:37Speaker 6: It's not the first home game, but it's going to
- 18:40Speaker 6: be electric.
- 18:42Speaker 7: Wisconsin, like they made a run last year for the
- 18:44Speaker 7: national championship, They're always a very very good team. I'm very,
- 18:49Speaker 7: very excited to welcome them into Read Arena and give
- 18:53Speaker 7: them a slug fest from not just our fantastic players
- 18:59Speaker 7: and our fantastic coaching staff, but also from US fans
- 19:02Speaker 7: who have you know, definitely bought into Jamie Morrison's style
- 19:08Speaker 7: of play as well as Jamie Morrison as a coach.
- 19:11Speaker 7: I think that Jamie Morrison is going to build a
- 19:17Speaker 7: dynasty here.
- 19:18Speaker 6: At Texas A and M.
- 19:20Speaker 7: He has a lot of fantastic values as well as
- 19:25Speaker 7: he's always just a fighter, and going against a team
- 19:28Speaker 7: like Wisconsin, who is you know, at least from what
- 19:31Speaker 7: I understand, not big in the volleyball world, but from
- 19:35Speaker 7: what from the people who are they've told me, Wisconsin
- 19:38Speaker 7: is somewhat of like a blue blood. Yeah, so them
- 19:41Speaker 7: coming to Reed Arena, where they get to meet not
- 19:44Speaker 7: only Jamie Morrison but the Reed rowdies, I believe is
- 19:48Speaker 7: going to be one of the most electric games of
- 19:50Speaker 7: all time.
- 19:51Speaker 1: Yeah. Definitely shaping up to be a great matchup. But
- 19:55Speaker 1: a lot of great games in this Aggie volleyball season.
- 19:59Speaker 1: That road game against Kentucky's one that I've got circleds.
- 20:02Speaker 1: That's gonna be big. That's gonna be big for the
- 20:04Speaker 1: momentum of the season.
- 20:05Speaker 9: You know.
- 20:06Speaker 1: It's right there in the middle of the SEC slate.
- 20:09Speaker 1: It's a rematch from I think it was the SIMP
- 20:11Speaker 1: that was the that was the next the final.
- 20:12Speaker 7: Yeah, which is ironic because they came to Rid Arena.
- 20:16Speaker 7: We lost to them in three to two, I believe, No,
- 20:19Speaker 7: we got swept.
- 20:20Speaker 6: I believe it was. It was a pretty rough day
- 20:23Speaker 6: at Reed.
- 20:26Speaker 7: I remember we were all pretty disappointed, but getting to
- 20:32Speaker 7: getting to take them, take them out for a national championship,
- 20:36Speaker 7: it definitely made that loss all the all the better.
- 20:40Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it always it's always really hard to beat
- 20:44Speaker 1: a good team twice in a season. You see it
- 20:46Speaker 1: in every sport. You see it in high school football
- 20:49Speaker 1: when a team matches up in district play and then
- 20:50Speaker 1: they run into the same team in the playoffs. A
- 20:53Speaker 1: lot of times it goes the other way. That's just
- 20:55Speaker 1: the beautiful thing about team sports is you never know
- 20:58Speaker 1: what's gonna happen. But yeah, that road game October twenty
- 21:01Speaker 1: fifth at Kentucky, that one's I think that's gonna be
- 21:04Speaker 1: pretty big for the season in general, just keeping that
- 21:08Speaker 1: positive momentum going, especially right off of a road game
- 21:12Speaker 1: in Georgia. So looking forward to a great Aggie volleyball season.
- 21:17Speaker 1: All Right, we'll take a quick break and talk more

- 22:00Speaker 1: That's what they do.
- 22:01Speaker 5: They do electro fishing to find out, well, what is
- 22:05Speaker 5: in your pond? Hey, no, wonder, you haven't been catching anything.

- 27:07Speaker 1: Welcome back to Chip Howard Sports Talk here on a
- 27:10Speaker 1: Thursday evening. Caleb Rapley here filling in for Chip. We're
- 27:14Speaker 1: talking to the president of the Reid Rowdy Student Organization,
- 27:18Speaker 1: mister Wrenn Delos Santos. Second segment of our interview here
- 27:22Speaker 1: with Wren so moving over to the basketball side of
- 27:26Speaker 1: things with the men's basketball team and Bucky McMillan. So
- 27:31Speaker 1: gonna be year two of Bucky Ball. We saw in
- 27:37Speaker 1: the past season the brand of basketball that he wants
- 27:40Speaker 1: to play, high scoring but still not slacking on defense.
- 27:46Speaker 1: It's really fun to watch. It's definitely like even though
- 27:49Speaker 1: it was his first season and you know, maybe he
- 27:51Speaker 1: hasn't fully had time to get his guys and get
- 27:54Speaker 1: his system installed the way that he wants, it was
- 27:56Speaker 1: still a lot of fun to watch. Got the run
- 27:59Speaker 1: to the round of third to two, just the second
- 28:01Speaker 1: round of March Madness. Getting that first round win and
- 28:04Speaker 1: just not going one and done in the NCAA tournament.
- 28:07Speaker 1: I think was big for the program in year one
- 28:10Speaker 1: to have that victory. How do you think Bucky's going
- 28:13Speaker 1: to continue this positive momentum into his second year? And
- 28:17Speaker 1: how's Reed Routes is going to support him in the team.
- 28:20Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 28:20Speaker 7: I think Bucky McMillan is going to be doing some
- 28:22Speaker 7: amazing things this second year. I mean, just look at
- 28:25Speaker 7: last year. We were leading the conference for what I
- 28:27Speaker 7: believe the.
- 28:28Speaker 1: First eight weeks something like that.
- 28:30Speaker 7: It was amazing. I mean, Reid Rowdies or a Red
- 28:34Speaker 7: Arena had never been so high. And then when Florida
- 28:36Speaker 7: came in, it was pretty great. It was packed house.
- 28:40Speaker 7: I remember, like us for the Rowdies, we were stressing
- 28:44Speaker 7: to get that game all set up properly because we
- 28:47Speaker 7: knew that it was just going to be a really
- 28:48Speaker 7: really big matchup. Fortunately did not go away, but hey,
- 28:51Speaker 7: that's how the game plays sometimes, and that's okay. But
- 28:55Speaker 7: this second year, Bucky McMillan is going to be doing
- 28:57Speaker 7: amazing things. I already know it. We've talked to him
- 29:02Speaker 7: about how to make the arena even better, especially with
- 29:07Speaker 7: like the change of pace, because you know, he is
- 29:11Speaker 7: a very fast pace for basketball, and we've had to
- 29:14Speaker 7: change some of our traditions or some of the way
- 29:18Speaker 7: we'd say or do things around that fast paced because
- 29:20Speaker 7: something's always happening.
- 29:23Speaker 6: But he has been an amazing coach. He's been super
- 29:28Speaker 6: supportive of Reid.
- 29:29Speaker 7: Rowdies, and he's if we've asked for something, he has
- 29:34Speaker 7: always been one hundred percent behind us, And because of that,
- 29:38Speaker 7: we always want to be one hundred percent behind him,
- 29:40Speaker 7: because we believe he deserves it. He's had an absolute
- 29:44Speaker 7: culture shock to the program, and I believe people are
- 29:50Speaker 7: definitely going to be buying into him next year.
- 29:52Speaker 1: And uh so, same question that I had with volleyball,
- 29:56Speaker 1: A really really great homeslate for men's basketball as well.
- 30:01Speaker 1: In the non conference, you've got Stanford coming to town.
- 30:04Speaker 1: I think that's the SEC ACC Challenge game that's December
- 30:07Speaker 1: two in Ried Arena. They're always a solid, solid program,
- 30:13Speaker 1: but the SEC schedule is loaded as always. We're going
- 30:17Speaker 1: to have Vanderbilt, LSU, and Texas as our mirror opponents,
- 30:21Speaker 1: so we'll play them at home and on the road.
- 30:24Speaker 1: And then the teams that we'll play just at home
- 30:26Speaker 1: in the SEC schedule are Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Georgia, Oklahoma,
- 30:31Speaker 1: and Tennessee. So we get Oklahoma at home back to
- 30:35Speaker 1: back years. I think we're on the road at Auburn
- 30:39Speaker 1: last year. That sounds right, but really loaded slate, so
- 30:45Speaker 1: I'm gonna go ahead and just say other than the
- 30:47Speaker 1: Texas game, because that's the answer that most people would give,
- 30:52Speaker 1: is what game are you most excited for? We're playing
- 30:54Speaker 1: Texas at home, it's going to be that one. Doesn't
- 30:57Speaker 1: matter the sport, doesn't matter where we're ranked, doesn't matter
- 30:59Speaker 1: where they're ranked. That's the game that everybody's excited for,
- 31:02Speaker 1: just because that's how it works in this rivalry. It's
- 31:05Speaker 1: one of the most It's the beautiful thing about this
- 31:07Speaker 1: rivalries that even if Texas is really good and we're
- 31:11Speaker 1: slacking a little bit or vice versa, it's always going
- 31:14Speaker 1: to be a really intense game. That's just the way
- 31:19Speaker 1: rivalries work. But other than the Texas game, what game
- 31:23Speaker 1: would you say you're most excited for? For men's basketball
- 31:26Speaker 1: this year?
- 31:28Speaker 7: I would have to say either Georgia or Vanderbilt. I
- 31:32Speaker 7: I love Vanderbilt as a basketball school. I mean, they've
- 31:35Speaker 7: always been They've always been pretty hurting in football, except
- 31:39Speaker 7: for a little bit recently.
- 31:40Speaker 1: But we'll see if that keeps up now that Diego
- 31:44Speaker 1: Papa's gone.
- 31:44Speaker 7: But sure, yeah, I don't know how they're going to
- 31:48Speaker 7: be this year with football. I hope the best for
- 31:49Speaker 7: them because they deserve it. They've been through so much
- 31:52Speaker 7: as a fan base, sure, but they've always been a
- 31:55Speaker 7: really really good basketball school. And I remember a couple
- 32:00Speaker 7: of years back when they stormed the court three times
- 32:04Speaker 7: and they had to put a counter on to wait
- 32:07Speaker 7: to storm the court.
- 32:08Speaker 6: And I always found that story really really funny.
- 32:11Speaker 1: Yeah, that was crazy.
- 32:12Speaker 7: So I've always I kind of fell in love with
- 32:15Speaker 7: Vanderbilt's fan base after that. But something I would also like.
- 32:20Speaker 7: The other team that I'm super excited to play is Georgia.
- 32:23Speaker 7: Georgia's always been a very very great basketball team, especially
- 32:28Speaker 7: going against the Aggies, very defense heavy, they'll definitely get
- 32:32Speaker 7: you like in the paint. And I just I always
- 32:36Speaker 7: love to see like the Maroons versus the Reds, especially
- 32:42Speaker 7: because like a andem was originally supposed to be read
- 32:45Speaker 7: until like the Jersey Company just they messed up our cullies.
- 32:49Speaker 1: I'm so glad they did.
- 32:50Speaker 6: I'm so glad they did too. Maroon is such a
- 32:52Speaker 6: beautiful color.
- 32:53Speaker 1: Yeah, we could have been basic and been read like
- 32:55Speaker 1: half of the schools in the nation, but at least,
- 32:58Speaker 1: you know, we have a somewhat unique shade of a color.
- 33:01Speaker 7: But go on, it's it's a it's a very beautiful color.
- 33:04Speaker 7: I like to call it true maroon. I don't know
- 33:06Speaker 7: what it's actually called.
- 33:07Speaker 1: But I think that's what I think. That's what a
- 33:09Speaker 1: m brands it as when they like put out the
- 33:12Speaker 1: the heck's color code, they call it true maroon whatever
- 33:15Speaker 1: that means. But yeah, it is. It's a good color,
- 33:18Speaker 1: objectively good color.
- 33:20Speaker 7: But George is always just such a fun team to play,
- 33:23Speaker 7: and they've they've always been really friendly with us, uh
- 33:26Speaker 7: in Read Arena. It's always, uh, really fun bantering back
- 33:31Speaker 7: and forth because both of our mascots are dogs. Uh
- 33:35Speaker 7: So there's always been a good couple of times where
- 33:37Speaker 7: we're just jokingly barking back and forth to each other.
- 33:40Speaker 6: And I mean, I just I love it.
- 33:42Speaker 7: I've never really had an issue with Georgia fans for basketball,
- 33:45Speaker 7: so I'm excited to have them back here in Read
- 33:48Speaker 7: Arena absolutely.
- 33:50Speaker 1: So Read rowdies does travel a little bit, you know,
- 33:53Speaker 1: probably not officially, but no, we do travel officially. Okay, okay,
- 33:57Speaker 1: you do travel officially. So y'all were at the A
- 34:01Speaker 1: lot of y'all were at the Kansas City National Championship
- 34:04Speaker 1: Game for volleyball. Some of the road basketball games as well.
- 34:08Speaker 1: So going out to those other campuses, those other schools,
- 34:12Speaker 1: you get to see some of the other schools student
- 34:15Speaker 1: sections and how how into the game they are. So
- 34:19Speaker 1: how would you say that Reid Rowties compares to some
- 34:22Speaker 1: of those other schools that you've seen.
- 34:24Speaker 7: Yeah, No, there are so many amazing fan bases in
- 34:29Speaker 7: this country. I have seen players come out in like
- 34:34Speaker 7: like six foot snow like for that Auburn game, and
- 34:37Speaker 7: yet there was still like a good chunk of students
- 34:39Speaker 7: out there when we had that buzzer beater that was
- 34:43Speaker 7: canceled out for Auburn. Very concert Ussell call, but I
- 34:47Speaker 7: think it was called right. But and then like there's
- 34:50Speaker 7: fan bases like LSU. They they are very, very into it.
- 34:53Speaker 7: Tennessee basketball fans are amazing. Texas I as much as
- 34:58Speaker 7: I hate to say it, I hate to say it
- 35:00Speaker 7: that they have an amazing volleyball fan base, they are
- 35:04Speaker 7: very into it. They I have seen so many amazing
- 35:09Speaker 7: fan bases in my lifetime for both basketball and volleyball.
- 35:13Speaker 7: But like I've I've never in my life seen an amazing,
- 35:21Speaker 7: more amazing fan base than Texas A and M. It's
- 35:28Speaker 7: the reason why I fell in love with Texas a
- 35:30Speaker 7: and M. Unbeknownst to me, when I was a kid,
- 35:34Speaker 7: I fell in love with read Rowdies. I didn't even
- 35:36Speaker 7: know they were a thing, but they made one of
- 35:39Speaker 7: my biggest core memories as a child that I have
- 35:44Speaker 7: to say that read Rowdies is the best fan base
- 35:48Speaker 7: in the SEC. I know we are the best fan
- 35:52Speaker 7: base in the country. We are so loud, we are
- 35:56Speaker 7: so fanatical, and the unwavering support that we will give
- 36:02Speaker 7: our teams. We've been through so many highs and so
- 36:05Speaker 7: many lows, but regardless, we're still there for our teams,
- 36:09Speaker 7: not only because of the love that we have for
- 36:12Speaker 7: our programs, for coaches, for our players, but also.
- 36:15Speaker 6: The love that we have for each other.
- 36:18Speaker 7: Read Rowdies is a family, and I think that's what
- 36:21Speaker 7: definitely sets us apart from every other fan base in
- 36:25Speaker 7: this country, is not just the love for the sport
- 36:30Speaker 7: and the team and the branding and the colors, but
- 36:34Speaker 7: the love for each other as a family.
- 36:36Speaker 1: Yeah. For sure, You've heard it said about a lot
- 36:40Speaker 1: of a lot of different teams and organizations, but I
- 36:43Speaker 1: think it's most fitting for the Aggies. We've seen them
- 36:47Speaker 1: win and we've seen them lose, but we've never seen
- 36:49Speaker 1: them quit. I will always stand by that absolutely. So
- 36:54Speaker 1: for any students listening, how do you get involved in
- 36:57Speaker 1: read Rowdies.
- 36:58Speaker 7: Yeah, so for any students that are wanting to join
- 37:01Speaker 7: read Rowdies, it's a very simple application and then a
- 37:04Speaker 7: very simple interview. We are very loving, we're very accepting.
- 37:08Speaker 7: We are such a tight knit family and community that
- 37:13Speaker 7: we're happy to have you.
- 37:16Speaker 6: We want to expand our family.
- 37:19Speaker 7: We want to help people find a family because I

- 39:42Speaker 1: volleyball and basketball here in the upcoming seasons. But we
- 39:47Speaker 1: know that read Routies will be with them every step
- 39:49Speaker 1: of the way. Looking forward to it. So thanks for
- 39:51Speaker 1: coming today.
- 39:52Speaker 7: I'm very happy to be here, Thank you for inviting

- 40:02Speaker 7: so so excited and we're going to bring the volume.
- 40:05Speaker 7: We're going to bring the excitement, we're going to bring
- 40:09Speaker 7: the pain for the other teams too.
- 40:11Speaker 1: Absolutely, when we come back, we will hear from Texas
- 40:13Speaker 1: A and M basketball player Cade Phillips. But first, the
- 40:16Speaker 1: Rangers Report brought to you by Shulty Roofing and Decker Financial.
- 40:20Speaker 9: It was after a hailstorm a few years back. I
- 40:22Speaker 9: needed a new roof. Yeah, I shopped around and then
- 40:25Speaker 9: I found Shorlty Roofing and boy, I'm glad I did
- 40:27Speaker 9: The folks at Shulty guided me every step of the way.
- 40:30Speaker 9: They showed me my options, They told me what my
- 40:32Speaker 9: out of pocket cost would be after insurance. They took
- 40:35Speaker 9: the complication out of an otherwise very stressful situation. They
- 40:39Speaker 9: took off the damage roof, put on the new roof,
- 40:41Speaker 9: did all the clean up, and I had my new
- 40:43Speaker 9: roof in one day.
- 40:47Speaker 17: The whole by the voll roof.
- 40:51Speaker 18: I'm Jed Nelson with your Texas Rangers report. The Rangers
- 40:54Speaker 18: looked to bounce back tonight after yesterday's drugging from the

- 41:33Speaker 18: stop the bleeding last night as the Los Angeles Angels
- 41:35Speaker 18: got the win thirteen to one. The Halo struck early
- 41:38Speaker 18: and often, with runs in the first, fourth, fifth, six, eighth,
- 41:41Speaker 18: and ninth innings. Texas found their loan run with this
- 41:43Speaker 18: swing from Kyle Lagashioka in a pinch hit slot.
- 41:46Speaker 16: Here's a ball cranked a deep left. This one might
- 41:48Speaker 16: get out of here. Logos back and it's gone calought
- 41:52Speaker 16: by a fan there in the first row. Nice job
- 41:54Speaker 16: Kyleagashioka to the pinch hit home run. It's the fourth
- 41:58Speaker 16: pinch hit home run for the Rangers this year, and
- 42:01Speaker 16: now the Rangers do have something in the run Tolm.
- 42:04Speaker 16: It's eleven to one.
- 42:05Speaker 18: Now the focus turns to the rubber match of the
- 42:07Speaker 18: series tonight. Nathie Valdi will take the mound for Texas.
- 42:10Speaker 18: With a nine and seven record in four oh two

- 43:46Speaker 1: Rapley here filling in for Chip. Almost out of time
- 43:51Speaker 1: here on a Thursday. We're going to hear in just
- 43:56Speaker 1: a minute from Caid Phillips, Texa and basketball player Herd
- 44:00Speaker 1: from Tennessee. This offseason, where he spent the first three
- 44:04Speaker 1: years of his collegiate career. He was really a solid
- 44:10Speaker 1: bench piece for the Volunteers in the twenty four to
- 44:14Speaker 1: twenty five season, average fifteen minutes a game, but this
- 44:18Speaker 1: past season he missed most of it with shoulder surgery.
- 44:22Speaker 1: Only got in ten games, started nine of those, So
- 44:26Speaker 1: was looking to be a much bigger piece of the
- 44:30Speaker 1: puzzle for Tennessee last year before that nagging shoulder injury
- 44:35Speaker 1: required surgery. He was originally recruited by Bucky McMillan back
- 44:41Speaker 1: when Bucky was at Stamford. Kate is from Jacksonville, Alabama,
- 44:45Speaker 1: so has known Bucky for a long time. That's probably
- 44:48Speaker 1: a pretty big factor in why he ended up coming
- 44:51Speaker 1: to A and M. And I'm pretty excited to see
- 44:53Speaker 1: him play this upcoming season. He's going to be really
- 44:59Speaker 1: key for were the Aggies front court. Earlier this week
- 45:05Speaker 1: he met with the media and here's some of what
- 45:08Speaker 1: he had to say. Curious, what went to your position guard.
- 45:12Speaker 19: To absolutely, you know, the portal, especially right now in
- 45:16Speaker 19: today's day and age of college basketball is is hectic,
- 45:20Speaker 19: and so you know, a past relationship like I had
- 45:23Speaker 19: with Bucky, you know, being from the Birmingham area and
- 45:26Speaker 19: him being from Birmingham and coaching through there, obviously instantly
- 45:30Speaker 19: drew me near to here at the very beginning of
- 45:32Speaker 19: this process when when they reached out and so you know,
- 45:35Speaker 19: getting to come out here and and and get to
- 45:39Speaker 19: meet everybody and get to see the culture that he's
- 45:41Speaker 19: beginning to start here and and really the momentum that
- 45:45Speaker 19: that this program is is gaining, It was it was
- 45:48Speaker 19: hard to.
- 45:48Speaker 6: Say, No, how would you describe that culture.
- 45:51Speaker 19: It's a culture that that plays hard and and and
- 45:54Speaker 19: plays the right way. And I think that's something that
- 45:57Speaker 19: especially in as modern of a style of basketball as
- 46:01Speaker 19: as we play, is is few and far between. You know,
- 46:04Speaker 19: to have a coach that coaches us as hard as
- 46:06Speaker 19: he does, you know, that's that's what goes into winning,
- 46:10Speaker 19: and is what I'm I wanted to be a part of.
- 46:12Speaker 21: The team that was sort of yearning for for size
- 46:14Speaker 21: and length last year. Just what do you hope to
- 46:16Speaker 21: bring to the table to sort of bring your eleventve
- 46:18Speaker 21: game and to improve the aggus this year?
- 46:20Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 46:21Speaker 19: Absolutely, And and and the trend of college basketball, the
- 46:24Speaker 19: teams that have gone deep in the teams that have
- 46:27Speaker 19: wanted all are the teams that can play fast. With
- 46:29Speaker 19: the teams I can also play physical. You know, you
- 46:31Speaker 19: have to be able to win shootouts against Alabama and
- 46:33Speaker 19: win the rock fights against Florida, and so to be
- 46:35Speaker 19: able to bring both of those is what I plan
- 46:38Speaker 19: to bring. Bring the speed, bring the physicality, and then
- 46:41Speaker 19: whatever the game needs, I'll give. And you know, I
- 46:43Speaker 19: think we have a lot of guys that are in
- 46:46Speaker 19: that virtutile middle of being able to play physical but
- 46:48Speaker 19: also being able to get up and down.
- 46:50Speaker 14: Can you talk about what you bring from a leadership standpoint.
- 46:53Speaker 6: To this team?
- 46:54Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 46:55Speaker 19: You know, I have been lucky enough to be a
- 46:57Speaker 19: great part of a great program at Tennessee and be
- 47:00Speaker 19: a part of a lot of winning and you know,
- 47:02Speaker 19: being able to be a part of that and lead
- 47:03Speaker 19: some of those teams, I know that there is a
- 47:06Speaker 19: standard that all great coaches and great programs hold hold
- 47:10Speaker 19: their players to and so being able to be a
- 47:12Speaker 19: part of that and be a part of that that leadership,
- 47:16Speaker 19: it's something that I've seen done and have done before.
- 47:20Speaker 19: And so you know, and we we have an incredibly
- 47:22Speaker 19: great group of guys this year, and they make my
- 47:26Speaker 19: job to make the coaches jobs easy. You know that
- 47:29Speaker 19: we have guys that are ready to learn and and
- 47:31Speaker 19: ready to push each other every day, and so just
- 47:33Speaker 19: being out there and being in that fire with them,
- 47:36Speaker 19: and and and keeping their head focused on the goals
- 47:39Speaker 19: that we have ahead and just winning every day.
- 47:42Speaker 10: Going from a system that's a lot more methodical, how
- 47:44Speaker 10: has this transition been from you to this up tempo otyle.
- 47:48Speaker 19: Yeah, a lot of running in practice, you know, we uh,
- 47:52Speaker 19: we we get up and down a lot in practice,
- 47:55Speaker 19: and everything is ninety miles per hour. But I do
- 47:58Speaker 19: think that that the speed plays in a lot of
- 48:00Speaker 19: my advantage of athleticism and linked and so you know,
- 48:04Speaker 19: being able to I'd say, get used to making decisions faster.
- 48:11Speaker 19: And I think that has been the biggest difference from
- 48:14Speaker 19: coming from coming from a slower team to to a
- 48:17Speaker 19: faster team, is to make decisions faster, make reads quicker,
- 48:22Speaker 19: and I think my god given abilities will take over
- 48:25Speaker 19: from the rest.
- 48:26Speaker 20: What's impressed you most about your new teammates Is anything
- 48:29Speaker 20: surprised you?
- 48:30Speaker 19: You know, I would say all of them are surprises
- 48:33Speaker 19: because they're all new faces to me, you know. But
- 48:36Speaker 19: I'd say we have an incredible group of guys. More
- 48:40Speaker 19: than more than just players, you know, obviously, we have
- 48:42Speaker 19: talented guys that have come from all over the place.
- 48:44Speaker 19: Jaln Shelley, PJ. PJ. Haggarty and have come all over
- 48:49Speaker 19: the place and have had incredibly, incredibly successful careers already,
- 48:54Speaker 19: And so for for those guys to have as much
- 48:56Speaker 19: success in college basketball that they have, it's it's an
- 49:02Speaker 19: incredible group of guys. They haven't let any of them
- 49:04Speaker 19: get to their head. And so we're we're all here
- 49:06Speaker 19: on one mission and that's the win. The win the
- 49:08Speaker 19: next basketball game. And I think everybody everybody on that
- 49:10Speaker 19: this team knows it and they know that we have
- 49:12Speaker 19: to come together. And I think that's the most surprising
- 49:15Speaker 19: part is a group like us that has come from
- 49:17Speaker 19: all over the place to gel when we've all had
- 49:19Speaker 19: such good individual careers is the most surprising part.
- 49:25Speaker 21: From Alabama and playing at Tennessee, obviously you grew up
- 49:28Speaker 21: actually in the SEC footprint. What's it been like for
- 49:30Speaker 21: you to see this basketball league sort of enter its
- 49:34Speaker 21: golden era from where you grew up to now playing.
- 49:37Speaker 8: In the league.
- 49:38Speaker 19: Yeah, you know, growing up SEC basketball was I guess
- 49:46Speaker 19: nobody get offended me saying kind of mediocre, you know,
- 49:49Speaker 19: and so but I knew I always wanted to be
- 49:51Speaker 19: in the SEC SEC always had, usually had the best athletes,
- 49:54Speaker 19: usually always had you know a lot of draft picks,
- 49:57Speaker 19: especially you know, coming from Kentucky in those days and
- 50:00Speaker 19: being in the SEC footprint to see it become what
- 50:03Speaker 19: it's become, you know, I luckily have a really good
- 50:05Speaker 19: relationship with Garth Glissman, the Associate commission of the SEC,
- 50:09Speaker 19: who's over men's basketball. And to see the numbers and
- 50:12Speaker 19: and how just that far above and beyond that the
- 50:17Speaker 19: SEC is going in men's basketball alone is honestly incredibly
- 50:22Speaker 19: and for me to be a part of that and
- 50:23Speaker 19: to be you know, both in the offices and on
- 50:26Speaker 19: the court is something really cool to see. And I
- 50:29Speaker 19: don't think the SEC is going anywhere and in basketball, men's, men's, women's,
- 50:34Speaker 19: and you know obviously football. And I think because it
- 50:37Speaker 19: the saying is true, it really does just mean more.
- 50:40Speaker 19: And I think that is that is something we know
- 50:43Speaker 19: as a team that when we get to the SEC season,
- 50:45Speaker 19: it's going to be a dog fight every night.
- 50:47Speaker 13: What has it been like.
- 50:48Speaker 19: Integrating into Texas A and m as the school and
- 50:50Speaker 19: just life and college station. Man, it is hot out here.
- 50:54Speaker 19: I'm from I'm from Alabama. I think it is pretty
- 50:57Speaker 19: hot and humid there, and I have been warned by
- 51:00Speaker 19: so many people, and I was like, you know, this
- 51:02Speaker 19: is this is nothing. So it's hot and it's humid,
- 51:05Speaker 19: and it's hard to escape. But and then obviously the
- 51:07Speaker 19: culture this is there's an incredible culture that surrounds this place,
- 51:11Speaker 19: an incredible group of people. I have yet to meet
- 51:13Speaker 19: somebody that that just wasn't an absolutely awesome person here.
- 51:16Speaker 19: And I think that goes to how much this university
- 51:19Speaker 19: has loved and and the the overall character that this
- 51:23Speaker 19: this university values. And I think that just bleeds into
- 51:28Speaker 19: the surrounding area. And I think that is a great
- 51:33Speaker 19: representation of what colleges meant places is you know, you
- 51:37Speaker 19: have a college that values, you know what integrity and
- 51:41Speaker 19: all all these things that the school of values that
- 51:43Speaker 19: it'll bleed into the region.
- 51:45Speaker 1: All right. That was Caid Phillips, Texas A and M
- 51:49Speaker 1: men's basketball player. Caid transferred from Tennessee. Over this past offseason,
- 51:55Speaker 1: the Aggies and Bucky McMillan had the number eleven ranked
- 51:59Speaker 1: transfer portal class in the nation, bringing in six players
- 52:07Speaker 1: through the transfer portal. A total of eight players will
- 52:11Speaker 1: be completely new to the program, with one high school
- 52:15Speaker 1: signee Josh Irving out of Pasadena, California, and then Bryson Warren,
- 52:21Speaker 1: who will hopefully be joining the program. He did not
- 52:25Speaker 1: play college basketball, instead participated in the Overtime Elite League
- 52:30Speaker 1: and has spent the last year or two in the
- 52:33Speaker 1: G League, so this if he has approved to play
- 52:40Speaker 1: in the NCAA, this will be his first college basketball season.
- 52:45Speaker 1: Bryson is a guard six foot three, was pretty highly
- 52:50Speaker 1: ranked coming out of high school before he decided to
- 52:52Speaker 1: go the Overtime Elite route instead of the traditional college route.
- 52:58Speaker 1: But he's very good player will make a huge impact
- 53:01Speaker 1: if he is allowed to play. PJ. Haggerty definitely the
- 53:06Speaker 1: biggest name on the roster, transferred from Kansas State, was
- 53:12Speaker 1: one of the top ranked players in the portal. He
- 53:15Speaker 1: has averaged twenty one points per game in his four
- 53:18Speaker 1: college seasons over one hundred games, played for four different programs, TCU, Tulsa, Memphis,
- 53:24Speaker 1: and the aforementioned Kansas State Wildcats. He will probably be
- 53:31Speaker 1: the go to guy for scoring for the Aggies this year.
- 53:35Speaker 1: Twenty three point four points per game for Kansas State
- 53:39Speaker 1: last season, three point eight assist, five point three rebounds,
- 53:44Speaker 1: so very very good player. Excited to see him play,
- 53:48Speaker 1: and I think he will pair very nicely with Kate
- 53:52Speaker 1: Phillips and Mackenzie and Baco who will be returning from
- 53:56Speaker 1: injury this season. In Baco, I think is announced today
- 54:01Speaker 1: or yesterday that he is fully healthy and a full
- 54:05Speaker 1: participant in practices. So the Aggie basketball team will be
- 54:10Speaker 1: going to the Bahamas in August for a summer league.
- 54:13Speaker 1: I think it's just three or four games, but really
- 54:17Speaker 1: looking forward to that. See how these new players adjust
- 54:19Speaker 1: to the program and what the squad looks like this year.
- 54:22Speaker 1: I think they're going to be really solid. Not that
- 54:25Speaker 1: many returning players for the Aggies. I would say Zach
- 54:30Speaker 1: Clements is really the only one that's coming back that
- 54:33Speaker 1: played a lot of minutes for the team last year.
- 54:36Speaker 1: Obviously Imbaco, but he only played a few games before
- 54:38Speaker 1: he got hurt. Some other players that are back on
- 54:41Speaker 1: the team are Chris McDermott Jamie Vinson, but neither of
- 54:46Speaker 1: them were starters or played that many minutes. So it's
- 54:50Speaker 1: going to be, you know, a pretty new look team
- 54:53Speaker 1: with some of the other transfers coming in. Lucas Walls
- 54:57Speaker 1: from Radford College also played for Samford under Bucky McMillan
- 55:03Speaker 1: a couple of years ago, Jalen Shelley from Loyola Marymount
- 55:07Speaker 1: Tyshawn Archie from McNeice, and Jalen Reese from LSU. So
- 55:13Speaker 1: a lot of very highly touted guys, most of them guards,
- 55:17Speaker 1: which is interesting. But that's I think kind of just
- 55:20Speaker 1: how Bucky's gonna build this program. He's gonna run a
- 55:22Speaker 1: lot of guard heavy lineups out there and then anchored
- 55:26Speaker 1: by Embaco Phillips and probably Clements in the front court.
