- 1:31Speaker 1: Caputo and Colin Ward are with you to break down
- 1:33Speaker 1: week three of the OHL season, 20, 26, 27. One
- 1:37Speaker 1: team remains undefeated and got some top dogs pun intended, uh,
- 1:40Speaker 1: top the East and the Western conference. We're going to
- 1:43Speaker 1: welcome on as well. Oshawa generals voice, the Jack Moore
- 1:47Speaker 1: a little bit later on today in segment two, give
- 1:49Speaker 1: us a chat about a young Oshawa generals team that
- 1:51Speaker 1: three and three right now, and they've been competitive, coming
- 1:54Speaker 1: off of obviously a tough season last year and having
- 1:56Speaker 1: the first overall pick in Kane Cloutier. So with all
- 1:59Speaker 1: that said, Colin, we're in the month of October. The
- 2:01Speaker 1: Halloween candy is already in full effect. It's football season.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Baseball playoffs are underway. The NHL season is now underway.
- 2:08Speaker 1: But week three of the OHL is what we're here
- 2:11Speaker 1: to talk about today.
- 2:12Speaker 3: Yeah, and it's underway. Week four is underway soon. You know,
- 2:16Speaker 3: the season has flown by. It's wild. This is a
- 2:18Speaker 3: month into the season this week. The thing to that,
- 2:21Speaker 3: how fast that's went is crazy. I mean, I always
- 2:24Speaker 3: say this. I was talking to my girlfriend, Liza, after
- 2:26Speaker 3: the home opener, driving home and over opening night. And
- 2:30Speaker 3: I said, like, you know, it's wild. It's going to
- 2:32Speaker 3: feel like next week is Christmas. It's all the first
- 2:35Speaker 3: half of the season always flies by. Like if it's
- 2:38Speaker 3: the opposite jerseys at home, whatever it is, it feels
- 2:42Speaker 3: like it just flies by. And it's been quite the
- 2:45Speaker 3: run here on the show as well to start things off. Brandon,
- 2:47Speaker 3: three great guests to start the season. Can't ask for
- 2:50Speaker 3: much more than that. And a lot of feedback from
- 2:53Speaker 3: Mike Stubbs, the voice of London Knights last week, joining
- 2:56Speaker 3: the program. So that was nice to see a lot
- 2:58Speaker 3: of feedback from that interview. We enjoyed it. Brandon and
- 3:01Speaker 3: I enjoyed it just as much as, as you, the listeners.
- 3:04Speaker 3: I mean, what a blast and what an insight, you know, like,
- 3:07Speaker 3: and I can't wait for tonight with Jack, another great interview,
- 3:11Speaker 3: another great person to have a conversation with around arenas. No,
- 3:15Speaker 3: with the being with the Bulldogs, you see them six
- 3:17Speaker 3: to eight times a year in Oshawa.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Right.
- 3:19Speaker 3: So, This should be a fun one tonight, for sure.
- 3:22Speaker 1: I'll try to facilitate as the referee here for an
- 3:24Speaker 1: East battle, Bulldogs and Generals here.
- 3:28Speaker 3: I'd get in trouble from Reed Duffy for not asking
- 3:31Speaker 3: Jack Moore any college football landscape questions.
- 3:34Speaker 1: I don't want to ask him about his Buffalo Bills,
- 3:37Speaker 1: because I know that was a tough one yesterday. But,
- 3:39Speaker 1: you know, he's a big football guy, you know, former
- 3:42Speaker 1: Laurier Golden Hawk as well. So we don't want to
- 3:45Speaker 1: talk about Western here. He'll probably leave the show, so.
- 3:47Speaker 3: And we don't want to talk about that this week either.
- 3:49Speaker 3: Queens came into town.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Yikes. So let's quickly give a rundown here for the
- 3:55Speaker 1: listeners and viewers here for today's show. As we mentioned,
- 3:58Speaker 1: OHL headlines is going to kick us off. We've got
- 4:00Speaker 1: a lot of headlines to go over, usually do at
- 4:02Speaker 1: the beginning of the season. We'll see how far that
- 4:05Speaker 1: takes us. And we'll get to the Sudbury Wolves being
- 4:07Speaker 1: the last team in the 68-0 race and the Brantford
- 4:10Speaker 1: Bulldogs and Sioux Greyhounds as the top dogs right now.
- 4:13Speaker 1: I'll talk a little bit about them. We'll go over
- 4:15Speaker 1: the performers of the week from the OHL as well.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Colin and myself will give our stick tap of the
- 4:19Speaker 1: week as well for player that we want to give
- 4:21Speaker 1: a shout out to. As we mentioned, Oshawa General's voice,
- 4:24Speaker 1: Jack Moore is going to join us and we'll finish
- 4:25Speaker 1: off with power rankings as always. And our Friday night
- 4:28Speaker 1: face off prediction and Colin, we got to get redemption
- 4:31Speaker 1: after last week.
- 4:32Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 4:32Speaker 3: You know, I messed up accountability. I will own it.
- 4:35Speaker 3: I'm not going to shy away from that. You know,
- 4:37Speaker 3: the dogs come barking when you fail, right? And they're
- 4:40Speaker 3: the first ones to let you know. It's like that meme.
- 4:42Speaker 3: you know, the meme that you get on social media
- 4:44Speaker 3: when you're, when, you know, like when unfortunately something happens,
- 4:47Speaker 3: you get like zero texts, but when your sports team loses,
- 4:50Speaker 3: you get like 350 and your phone just blows up. Um, well,
- 4:54Speaker 3: that's a Denver Bronco fan, but yeah, that, uh, that's, um,
- 4:58Speaker 3: that's how it went this week. And, you know, I
- 4:59Speaker 3: deserve it. The dog should be out barking. Um, it
- 5:02Speaker 3: wasn't good enough and that's accountable ability. I'm not going
- 5:06Speaker 3: to do a Dylan Larkin and request a trade, but I'm,
- 5:08Speaker 3: I'm there, you know, I'm here. And, uh, It's on
- 5:12Speaker 3: to this week. It's on to this week. And I'm
- 5:14Speaker 3: confident with this week. I'm confident with this week. We're
- 5:16Speaker 3: going back to the hammer. That's how confident I am.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Yep. It's going to be an interesting one in the
- 5:21Speaker 1: Midwest division. We'll finish off with that on today's show.
- 5:24Speaker 1: So let's get going here with the headlines. We got
- 5:26Speaker 1: about a thousand to go over, but obviously a big
- 5:29Speaker 1: one here for a coach that you'll both you and
- 5:31Speaker 1: I respect a lot here. Ryan Ulihan of the North
- 5:34Speaker 1: Bay battalion has been named the head coach of team
- 5:36Speaker 1: CHL for the CHL USA prospect challenge. coming up in November,
- 5:40Speaker 1: taking place in the queue this season. Really exciting for him.
- 5:44Speaker 1: He was an assistant when it was back here in
- 5:46Speaker 1: London a few years ago, but obviously Ryan Ulihan has
- 5:49Speaker 1: aspirations of becoming a coach in the professional ranks as well.
- 5:53Speaker 1: He's probably next. Right now he's continuing to lead the
- 5:56Speaker 1: North Bay Battalion. I know they're off to a rocky
- 5:59Speaker 1: start a little bit, but obviously this is well-deserved for
- 6:01Speaker 1: Ryan Ulihan.
- 6:02Speaker 3: Yeah, no, this is absolutely well-deserved, and it's funny. The
- 6:05Speaker 3: two teams I saw in person this year are kind
- 6:07Speaker 3: of off the rock. He starts in Brampton and North Bay.
- 6:10Speaker 3: So it'll be interesting if we touch in a little
- 6:12Speaker 3: bit on that. But North Bay, North Bay, like, you know,
- 6:15Speaker 3: for Ryan Ulihan in particular, he's probably the next up-and-coming
- 6:18Speaker 3: coach to the pro level, right? Like, we saw you
- 6:21Speaker 3: say a hocus. We saw Jay McKee. And by the way, congrats, Cheese,
- 6:25Speaker 3: on your first AHL win on Friday evening against the
- 6:29Speaker 3: Belleville Senators, Andrew Campbell, Matt Turk, and the Gangs of...
- 6:33Speaker 3: that was definitely a fun one for him. I sent
- 6:35Speaker 3: him a couple of messages about it. If there was
- 6:37Speaker 3: any gentlemen's bats or something on the game, but yeah, no, that's,
- 6:43Speaker 3: that's cool for Ryan with a hand. They'd be in
- 6:45Speaker 3: that conversation to go to the next level. These are
- 6:47Speaker 3: the types of games. You kind of got to put
- 6:49Speaker 3: your name in the hat, right. Name the draw for
- 6:51Speaker 3: get the job. And you got to prove yourself at
- 6:54Speaker 3: these events, right on the big stage. This will be
- 6:56Speaker 3: the center stage. It'll be the big event at the time.
- 6:58Speaker 3: And I think for him to get that opportunity, you're
- 7:00Speaker 3: going to showcase the, your skillset as a coach. And
- 7:03Speaker 3: that's a first and foremost to get that opportunity to
- 7:07Speaker 3: move up. And I think that the only time, like Brandon,
- 7:10Speaker 3: if we were to say last year, Ryan, I got
- 7:12Speaker 3: a pro job too, with that, with the other two,
- 7:14Speaker 3: when Jay McKee and you say, Oh, cause would we
- 7:16Speaker 3: be surprised? No. So right on the hands right there
- 7:19Speaker 3: on the cusp. And we saw Jay McKee joined the
- 7:21Speaker 3: staff last year. Maybe Ryan, a little hand follows suit
- 7:24Speaker 3: this year.
- 7:24Speaker 1: Yeah. I know you're a big fan going back to
- 7:26Speaker 1: his grand Rapids Griffin days as a player.
- 7:28Speaker 3: So probably still play for the Red Wings.
- 7:31Speaker 1: Yeah, maybe he should suit up because they definitely need it.
- 7:33Speaker 1: But I promise you I wouldn't bring up the Red
- 7:35Speaker 1: Wings on the show for your mental health this year.
- 7:37Speaker 2: It's okay.
- 7:38Speaker 3: Hey, accountability. I'm not going to run from it. I'm
- 7:41Speaker 3: not going to run from it.
- 7:43Speaker 2: You're a good captain.
- 7:45Speaker 3: What are people going to do? Kick us when we're down? Thanks.
- 7:48Speaker 3: Now I know what Buffalo went through, Brandon.
- 7:49Speaker 2: And you know what?
- 7:50Speaker 3: Thanks for kicking us when we're down. We're just going
- 7:52Speaker 3: to pick fourth anyway. Like if someone says about the
- 7:54Speaker 3: draft lottery, here, I'll one-up you. We're not going to
- 7:57Speaker 3: pick first. We'll pick fourth. The Red Wings don't win lotteries. There,
- 8:01Speaker 3: I'm already on the wagon for picking fourth, and it
- 8:03Speaker 3: is what it is.
- 8:05Speaker 1: So we'll move on here to Cornwall, everybody's favorite topic.
- 8:09Speaker 1: We've got the games coming up next week where the
- 8:12Speaker 1: Steelheads are going to be facing the Frontenacs and the
- 8:14Speaker 1: Ottawa 67s. But actually, Kingston comes to Brampton this week
- 8:19Speaker 1: to play them. Here are the jerseys that the Steelheads
- 8:24Speaker 1: are going to be wearing for the two games that
- 8:27Speaker 1: they're going to be playing in Cornwall. Colin, what do
- 8:29Speaker 1: you think of the jerseys A and B? I know
- 8:31Speaker 1: you're a little bit concerned about possibly, you know, what's
- 8:34Speaker 1: going on with the ticket sales there in Cornwall.
- 8:36Speaker 3: Yeah, no, that's first and foremost. I think it was
- 8:38Speaker 3: like 36 bucks a ticket for the games. So it's
- 8:40Speaker 3: a little bit on the higher side for the Ontario
- 8:43Speaker 3: Hockey League. I would like to see it about 10
- 8:46Speaker 3: bucks less. You know, you put it to 28, 26 bucks.
- 8:49Speaker 3: You get a chance to get everybody there, pack the building.
- 8:51Speaker 3: You want everybody to experience it, not break the bank, right?
- 8:53Speaker 3: For two tickets, you're looking at 45 bucks after tax.
- 8:56Speaker 3: So to go to a game, for, uh, 80 bucks,
- 8:59Speaker 3: 90 bucks for two tickets like that. That's, that's too
- 9:03Speaker 3: much in my opinion, going to an OHL game. Um,
- 9:06Speaker 3: I think that you gotta, we gotta remember here is
- 9:08Speaker 3: no HL. You want to grow the game. You want
- 9:10Speaker 3: people to go dream to play for, you know, the
- 9:13Speaker 3: Brampton steelheads that grew up in Brampton. You grow, you
- 9:15Speaker 3: want to dream. You want kids to dream, to play
- 9:18Speaker 3: for that team. Right? Like, so I feel like you're
- 9:21Speaker 3: kind of taking that away. I know there's a lot
- 9:22Speaker 3: of tough, uh, tough crowd so far in the year.
- 9:25Speaker 3: I know it's early in the season. There's a lot
- 9:27Speaker 3: going on yet. It's still nice weather. People don't want
- 9:29Speaker 3: to be indoors in the arena. If you can stay
- 9:32Speaker 3: outside a little longer and have an extra campfire, I
- 9:34Speaker 3: don't disagree with you. So maybe that's a little bit too,
- 9:37Speaker 3: but for Cornwall's sake, I hope. And like you say,
- 9:40Speaker 3: this is still a week and a half away from
- 9:44Speaker 3: the actual event. So when this happens, when this happens,
- 9:48Speaker 3: like maybe next week at this time, it's sold out, right?
- 9:52Speaker 3: And it's an OHL and 60 effect. But I feel
- 9:54Speaker 3: like I feel like it, I'm not going to be
- 9:57Speaker 3: panic on the panicking on this a week from now,
- 10:00Speaker 3: but for Cornwall, I love the jerseys. Remind me a
- 10:03Speaker 3: lot of Saginaw. So that's interesting. I think at first,
- 10:06Speaker 3: if you didn't have Royals on it, you think it's
- 10:08Speaker 3: a Saginaw spirit alternate with the stars and the blue,
- 10:12Speaker 3: red and white trim. You would think it's Saginaw, but
- 10:15Speaker 3: I love the, I love the Royals logo. I think
- 10:18Speaker 3: it's a great way to brand the game. And I
- 10:23Speaker 3: hope it's a sellout.
- 10:24Speaker 2: I hope it is.
- 10:25Speaker 3: Because it would be very unfortunate if it wasn't, right?
- 10:27Speaker 3: So I hope it's a sellout from a league standpoint.
- 10:33Speaker 3: I'm not saying Brampton's moving. I'm not saying that. But
- 10:36Speaker 3: you took the lowest attendance and you put them there.
- 10:37Speaker 3: We already touched on that last season. That's old news.
- 10:41Speaker 3: But it's got to work. There's got to be an
- 10:44Speaker 3: OHL team that works in the GTA.
- 10:47Speaker 2: Um, where is it?
- 10:49Speaker 3: That's, that's the question mark. I'm a fan of, you
- 10:51Speaker 3: know what, put the, put a team in Cornwall. If
- 10:53Speaker 3: it sells, put a team in Chatham, boom, it's easy
- 10:57Speaker 3: on each side of the market. If you can sell
- 10:59Speaker 3: it out and Chatham, right? Like that, that's an extra market.
- 11:03Speaker 3: You're going to, I'd rather get 3000 seats full in
- 11:06Speaker 3: a Chatham than only getting a thousand in a, the
- 11:08Speaker 3: Toronto area. So that's the way I look at it
- 11:10Speaker 3: right now.
- 11:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:11Speaker 1: I think we can have a deeper dive on that
- 11:13Speaker 1: in a week where maybe we don't have a lot
- 11:15Speaker 1: going on. Cause I think it is a, it is
- 11:17Speaker 1: an interesting discussion about, you know, the, the, the league
- 11:20Speaker 1: really wants teams to succeed in the GTA because it's centralized.
- 11:24Speaker 1: And I understand that, but yeah, well, I guess we'll,
- 11:28Speaker 1: we'll have a debate about that later in the year.
- 11:30Speaker 1: So that there's a little, a little forecast for you
- 11:33Speaker 1: guys about a topic to expect you're going for. We
- 11:35Speaker 1: got way too many headlines to go over today. Coming
- 11:37Speaker 1: up to in a couple of weeks. Oh, those are
- 11:41Speaker 1: always fun, too. That's that's a great segment we bring
- 11:43Speaker 1: around the Halloween time. We'll probably have some Halloween candy
- 11:46Speaker 1: for that. I quickly want to go through a couple
- 11:48Speaker 1: of alumni stuff here, Colin. I'm just going to quickly
- 11:50Speaker 1: whiz through this and then we'll we'll keep going here.
- 11:53Speaker 1: Evan Bouchard, obviously former London Knight, continues to impress with
- 11:56Speaker 1: the regular season score sheet with a three point night
- 11:59Speaker 1: against the Canucks, became the 11th player in the past
- 12:02Speaker 1: 80 years and the first defenseman ever to record at
- 12:05Speaker 1: least eight points through his first team defense. team's first
- 12:08Speaker 1: two games of a season. So great there for obviously
- 12:11Speaker 1: a London night.
- 12:11Speaker 2: Great.
- 12:12Speaker 1: And playing with, with Connor McDavid, another OHL.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Great.
- 12:15Speaker 1: You know, it's taken him a few years to get
- 12:17Speaker 1: going here, but one of, if not the best offensively
- 12:20Speaker 1: gifted defenseman in the NHL.
- 12:22Speaker 3: Absolutely. Brandon. Absolutely. He's the best offensive defenseman I have
- 12:27Speaker 3: saw in my lifetime watching London night games. So 28 years,
- 12:32Speaker 3: he's the best defenseman offensively that I've saw as a
- 12:36Speaker 3: London night. He, everything he does, he controls, he controlled
- 12:39Speaker 3: the game in a rocking chair. And I, I think
- 12:41Speaker 3: that's the thing about Evan Bouchard that kind of, you know,
- 12:44Speaker 3: even with the Oilers, you get, you see the criticism because, Oh,
- 12:46Speaker 3: maybe he's a little bit too slow reacting to pucks,
- 12:50Speaker 3: but that's just the way he plays the game. And
- 12:51Speaker 3: the NHL is a lot faster. And obviously you're putting
- 12:53Speaker 3: up points like that, but he's so good with the puck.
- 12:56Speaker 3: You never see him lose pucks much. He's so sure handed.
- 12:59Speaker 3: So I think Evan, I think the sky's the limit
- 13:01Speaker 3: for Evan Bouchard. I think it's a blast to see
- 13:03Speaker 3: him have the success. with the Edmonton Oilers and the
- 13:05Speaker 3: National Hockey League because he's been so good since junior.
- 13:08Speaker 3: And I mean, the world juniors, like everywhere he's been,
- 13:11Speaker 3: he's been an elite contributor offensively and he's been respectable
- 13:15Speaker 3: defensively as well.
- 13:16Speaker 1: For sure. He's going to have another great year, maybe
- 13:19Speaker 1: a hundred point season with the Oilers. We'll have to
- 13:21Speaker 1: wait and see their OHL alumni on AHL opening night rosters.
- 13:24Speaker 1: There are 170 former OHLers are on the opening night
- 13:28Speaker 1: roster in the American Hockey League. So really good stuff there.
- 13:32Speaker 1: And if you guys are centralized and you want to
- 13:34Speaker 1: go see, you know, the newest AHL team in Hamilton,
- 13:36Speaker 1: Keishon Aitchison, Isaiah George are going to be there. So
- 13:39Speaker 1: Liam Foody and Liam Foody as well. So there's a
- 13:42Speaker 1: lot of OHL connection there with that team going to Hamilton.
- 13:45Speaker 1: And we know the story history with the Bulldogs that
- 13:47Speaker 1: they had in Hamilton as well. So they continued their
- 13:50Speaker 1: ties in the OHL.
- 13:51Speaker 3: I just give a shout out Owen Burnell. He never
- 13:54Speaker 3: got it. He never got the post introduction post. He
- 13:57Speaker 3: never got, he never got the acknowledgement with the new gigs,
- 14:00Speaker 3: but new he's a video coach at Hamilton hammers as well.
- 14:03Speaker 3: Spent a lot of time at the Brantford Bulldogs, Hamilton Bulldogs.
- 14:09Speaker 3: I've gotten to know him pretty closely, so I want
- 14:11Speaker 3: to make sure he gets his credit as well. The
- 14:13Speaker 3: new video coach of the Hamilton Hammers. I know, Brandon,
- 14:17Speaker 3: you've met Owen before. Great dude. So it's really cool
- 14:20Speaker 3: to see him get the job with Hamilton along with
- 14:22Speaker 3: Vince Lace and Jay McKee.
- 14:24Speaker 1: Yeah, the ties there are deep. From the former Hamilton
- 14:28Speaker 1: Bulldogs franchise now to the Hamilton Hammers. So, yeah, congratulations
- 14:32Speaker 1: to Owen on that. And then lastly, for alumni today,
- 14:35Speaker 1: we've got Kevin He making history, the first Chinese born
- 14:39Speaker 1: player to play in the American Hockey League. He was
- 14:40Speaker 1: the first ever Chinese born player, highest drafted Chinese born
- 14:44Speaker 1: player into the National Hockey League. And he continues to
- 14:47Speaker 1: break down barriers there. And he'll most likely be the
- 14:49Speaker 1: first ever to play, be on the NHL opening lineup
- 14:52Speaker 1: one day with the with the Winnipeg Jets, given his
- 14:55Speaker 1: speed and everything like that. Kevin, he's a great person
- 14:58Speaker 1: off the ice. You know, got to know him pretty
- 15:00Speaker 1: well in my time in Niagara. You know, very, very
- 15:02Speaker 1: smart young man, very respectful. And he's a guy that
- 15:05Speaker 1: you want to root for at the next level. So
- 15:07Speaker 1: just really happy to see this for Kevin Heat.
- 15:10Speaker 3: Yeah, no, absolutely. I mean, that's really cool. I know, Brandon,
- 15:12Speaker 3: that's someone that you're close with. That's really cool to
- 15:15Speaker 3: be breaking barriers like that in a pro game.
- 15:18Speaker 1: Absolutely. So congratulations to Kevin Heat on that. Moving forward here,
- 15:22Speaker 1: another sort of return. Obviously, it made big news. We
- 15:26Speaker 1: knew that at some point it was going to happen,
- 15:27Speaker 1: just had to wait a little bit. Mike Farwell returns
- 15:30Speaker 1: as the voice of the Kitchener Rangers. Um, congratulations to
- 15:34Speaker 1: our colleague here at the network, Steve Clark for filling
- 15:36Speaker 1: in for those few games for, for Mike did a
- 15:39Speaker 1: standup job. And obviously Steve's going to be calling games
- 15:41Speaker 1: for the ice dogs, but did a fine job filling
- 15:43Speaker 1: in for Mike Farwell there. But, uh, just Mike Farwell
- 15:47Speaker 1: synonymous with the Kitchener Rangers. Hopefully we can have him
- 15:50Speaker 1: on as a guest going forward here, Colin, I think
- 15:52Speaker 1: it'd be great to pick his brain about the OHL
- 15:54Speaker 1: championship Memorial cup run that they had last year with
- 15:56Speaker 1: the Rangers. But, uh, Great to see Mike Farwell back
- 15:59Speaker 1: in the radio chair for the Rangers.
- 16:01Speaker 3: Yeah, no, it's not a Rangers game without Mike calling
- 16:03Speaker 3: the games. No disrespect to JC and Steve. They're great
- 16:08Speaker 3: broadcasters in the Ontario Hockey League. Highly respected for those
- 16:11Speaker 3: two gentlemen. But for Mike, I mean, the Kitchener Rangers, right? Like,
- 16:15Speaker 3: it's Mike Farwell's call. And to see Mike back in
- 16:18Speaker 3: the booth, it's definitely a breath of fresh air. And
- 16:22Speaker 3: I think it's incredible for the league. And most importantly,
- 16:24Speaker 3: for the Rangers as well. Like, that's the voice of
- 16:26Speaker 3: the team. When you think about the Rangers, you think
- 16:28Speaker 3: about Mike Farwell's impact that he's had on the Rangers
- 16:31Speaker 3: organization and what he does off the ice as well,
- 16:34Speaker 3: like with the charity work that he does in the community.
- 16:36Speaker 3: I mean, Mike's great. And I mean, he just gets it.
- 16:38Speaker 3: He's a great person. And I think it's really cool
- 16:40Speaker 3: that he's back in the booth and it's definitely well-deserved.
- 16:43Speaker 3: It's going to be cool to hear him again. I
- 16:44Speaker 3: know there's going to be a lot of energy from
- 16:48Speaker 3: Mike and, you know, the excitement level for him is
- 16:50Speaker 3: through the roof as well.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Yeah, major congratulations to him. Good colleague, good friend, and
- 16:55Speaker 1: fellow podcaster as well. But when you think of the
- 16:58Speaker 1: Kitchener Rangers, Don Cameron and Mike Farwell. You know what
- 17:00Speaker 1: I mean? So you would hate to lose that. And
- 17:04Speaker 1: I'm glad that they were able to come to terms there, obviously,
- 17:07Speaker 1: with the radio station there and Mike going to be
- 17:09Speaker 1: calling the games going forward. So major congratulations to him
- 17:13Speaker 1: getting back with the Rangers where he belongs. So moving
- 17:16Speaker 1: forward here, Dave Drinkle calling. This is a big one here.
- 17:21Speaker 1: He got an extension with the Saginaw Spirit. Dave Drinkel
- 17:24Speaker 1: obviously has been with Saginaw for quite a while now.
- 17:26Speaker 1: I believe he came in the 2015-2016 season for the
- 17:32Speaker 1: Saginaw Spirit. They obviously won a Memorial Cup under his
- 17:35Speaker 1: leadership there. But this seems like a big one for
- 17:38Speaker 1: the stability of the Spirit going forward with one of
- 17:41Speaker 1: the better and well-respected managers in all the OHL.
- 17:45Speaker 3: Yeah, no, absolutely. You nailed it on the head, Brandon. Stability, right?
- 17:48Speaker 3: Coaching staff moving on like that. With Chris Lazzari moving on,
- 17:52Speaker 3: I think that's one thing that you need your front
- 17:54Speaker 3: office to have stability, and that's what you have. It
- 17:57Speaker 3: gets rid of some of the question marks with Dave Drinkel,
- 18:00Speaker 3: and I think it keeps the fans happy. And I
- 18:02Speaker 3: think as a fan, all you want to know is
- 18:03Speaker 3: the stability of your franchise, and the Saginaw Spirit definitely
- 18:06Speaker 3: have that right now in the front office, and it's huge.
- 18:08Speaker 3: I mean, Dave's track record's been incredible so far in
- 18:11Speaker 3: the Ontario Hockey League in his career.
- 18:13Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, you look at it there, he started
- 18:15Speaker 1: with the Barry Colts. as an analyst back in 2005, 2006,
- 18:19Speaker 1: and then worked his way up, ends up with the
- 18:21Speaker 1: Saginaw Spirit and obviously gets to, you know, become the
- 18:26Speaker 1: general manager with the team. And then the director of
- 18:29Speaker 1: hockey operations as well with Hockey Canada's U-17 program as well.
- 18:33Speaker 1: So he's making waves at the international level as well.
- 18:37Speaker 1: So congratulations to Dave Drinkle. And that's big news for
- 18:39Speaker 1: the Saginaw Spirit to be able to get a guy
- 18:41Speaker 1: like that to obviously, you know, man the ship and
- 18:44Speaker 1: have a long-term outlook for the spirit, not just the
- 18:46Speaker 1: guy that's on a one-year contract and not really sure
- 18:48Speaker 1: what's going to happen there. So Dave Drinkle re-ups as
- 18:51Speaker 1: the general manager of the Saginaw spirit for a team
- 18:54Speaker 1: that Colin and I are both really high on, even
- 18:56Speaker 1: though they've kind of cut off to a, not a
- 18:57Speaker 1: great start, but expect them to be near the top
- 19:00Speaker 1: going forward. The Erie Otters, a couple of news.
- 19:04Speaker 2: And notes here.
- 19:04Speaker 1: They earned their 900th win as a franchise with a
- 19:09Speaker 1: 8-6 victory in Kingston against you don't see Troy man's
- 19:12Speaker 1: club give up eight goals a lot, Colin, but it's
- 19:14Speaker 1: happened twice.
- 19:15Speaker 3: Two point conversion.
- 19:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:17Speaker 1: Um, I don't know what's going on with Kingston and
- 19:18Speaker 1: their goals against right now, but, uh, regardless of that,
- 19:21Speaker 1: Erie had a, had a pretty good weekend, as you
- 19:22Speaker 1: mentioned last weekend, and they pick up their 900th win
- 19:26Speaker 1: as a franchise. Obviously some great players have come through
- 19:28Speaker 1: that organization.
- 19:29Speaker 3: Yeah, no, absolutely. For the Erie Otters. Um, and they've
- 19:32Speaker 3: had a lot, they have their track record with their
- 19:33Speaker 3: alumni is definitely impressive. Um, they've had some good players
- 19:36Speaker 3: come up and for the Erie Otters, uh, the organization, um,
- 19:40Speaker 3: great broadcasters there as well that we've gotten talked to
- 19:43Speaker 3: over the years, Brandon, but for the Otters 900th win,
- 19:46Speaker 3: that's pretty impressive. I mean, it's pretty cool to celebrate
- 19:48Speaker 3: these wins right next year. your pot are a couple
- 19:51Speaker 3: years away you're looking at a thousand which is really
- 19:53Speaker 3: cool um and i think for the otters the alumni
- 19:57Speaker 3: you look back at the history books when you tend
- 19:58Speaker 3: to see milestones like this you look back at the
- 20:00Speaker 3: history books i think it's definitely cool to see um
- 20:03Speaker 3: for the otters.
- 20:05Speaker 1: Yeah absolutely the other news uh from the Ontario Hockey League,
- 20:09Speaker 1: from Josh Sweetland, OHL PR guy, does a great job
- 20:12Speaker 1: of getting us these statistics every single week here that
- 20:16Speaker 1: he posts on his Instagram and on X account, is
- 20:19Speaker 1: the Sudbury Wolves. And we're going to talk about them
- 20:21Speaker 1: a little bit later on here as well, Colin. They
- 20:24Speaker 1: make history with their first ever 5-0 start with a
- 20:26Speaker 1: big 7-1 victory over the Niagara Ice Dogs. At the time,
- 20:30Speaker 1: they joined the Brantford Bulldogs and London Knights as one
- 20:32Speaker 1: of the only undefeated teams left. They are now the
- 20:34Speaker 1: last team standing. But for the Wolves, as long as
- 20:36Speaker 1: the history as they've had it's their first ever five
- 20:39Speaker 1: and Oh start. And we heard Mike Stubbs last week
- 20:41Speaker 1: say the London Knights have never had a five and
- 20:43Speaker 1: Oh start before.
- 20:44Speaker 2: Yeah, either.
- 20:45Speaker 1: But I mean, that's for other reasons because they've usually
- 20:47Speaker 1: got a lot of players away at NHL camps begin
- 20:49Speaker 1: the year. But yeah, for Sudbury, you know, as much
- 20:53Speaker 1: as we, we, we gave them flack for the trade,
- 20:55Speaker 1: we still think they're going to have a good season
- 20:56Speaker 1: and they're obviously off to a good start.
- 20:58Speaker 3: Yeah. I know for the wolves, this is huge, right?
- 21:00Speaker 3: It's huge to get people in attendance at their games.
- 21:03Speaker 3: It's nice to see the building get a little bit
- 21:04Speaker 3: more full. Hopefully it's, And it's nice to see it.
- 21:08Speaker 3: It's nice. Honestly, it's nice to see them have a
- 21:09Speaker 3: season like this to have a start to a season
- 21:11Speaker 3: like this. Right. Have an opportunity to continue building something
- 21:14Speaker 3: special here. I think they have big aspirations this season
- 21:18Speaker 3: as an organization, a whole. So I think that's big.
- 21:20Speaker 3: I'm excited to see where the Wolves can head this year.
- 21:23Speaker 3: Definitely with their start, they're feeling really good.
- 21:27Speaker 1: And then we've got a couple of leadership announcements to
- 21:30Speaker 1: make here. Again, Jack Moore, the voice of the Oshawa Journal,
- 21:33Speaker 1: is going to join us in about 15 minutes or so.
- 21:36Speaker 1: We've got the Sioux Greyhounds calling, who obviously have got
- 21:39Speaker 1: off to a really good start in the West Division,
- 21:41Speaker 1: a sneaky good start for the Sioux Greyhounds. They have
- 21:44Speaker 1: announced their leadership group. I just have to pull up
- 21:47Speaker 1: the viz that I have to read. So again, the
- 21:49Speaker 1: Sioux Greyhounds have announced their leadership group. Travis Hayes was
- 21:53Speaker 1: named the hounds captain, as well as spencer evans quinn
- 21:58Speaker 1: mckenzie and jordan charron calum cross career also rotating alternate
- 22:03Speaker 1: captains what are your thoughts on that.
- 22:06Speaker 3: Yeah you know i like the alternate captains you get
- 22:08Speaker 3: more people with the opportunity to wear a letter i
- 22:10Speaker 3: think it's a great thing to add maturity it's a
- 22:12Speaker 3: skill set to be a leader in the in junior
- 22:14Speaker 3: hockey right it translates well you would hope and people
- 22:17Speaker 3: look at that scouts look at that um right away
- 22:19Speaker 3: you look at the captain's list you see what their
- 22:21Speaker 3: draft eligibility is or if they're drafted already uh it
- 22:24Speaker 3: just sticks out right so i think for them and
- 22:26Speaker 3: the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds to have a leadership role
- 22:29Speaker 3: after Brady Martin last year with the job he did.
- 22:32Speaker 3: There's a lot of pressure to take over that, so
- 22:33Speaker 3: I'm excited to see where the Greyhounds can go with
- 22:39Speaker 3: the new captaincy.
- 22:40Speaker 1: Yeah, captains are a touchy subject on this show, but
- 22:46Speaker 1: let's move forward with the.
- 22:46Speaker 2: Take your shit out.
- 22:49Speaker 1: Guelph Storm also announced their leadership group. You're going to
- 22:53Speaker 1: get me going, Colin.
- 22:54Speaker 2: You're going to get me going.
- 22:55Speaker 1: I'm not going to start again. So Rowan Topp has
- 22:58Speaker 1: been named the captain of the Guelph Storm, the 35th
- 23:01Speaker 1: captain in team history. Grant Spada, Tyler Hopkins, Ethan Zada,
- 23:05Speaker 1: Ryan Robrick, and Owen Griffin talk about a star-studded alternate
- 23:09Speaker 1: captaincy cast there of a ton of NHL-drafted players. But
- 23:13Speaker 1: Rowan Topp is the next captain, a 2006-born defenseman, been
- 23:19Speaker 1: with the Storm since he was drafted in the 2022 season.
- 23:22Speaker 1: a priority selection in the third round, 59th overall. So
- 23:26Speaker 1: pretty good career for him so far as a member
- 23:28Speaker 1: of the Guelph Storm and a team that obviously has
- 23:31Speaker 1: high aspirations this year and is going to be in
- 23:33Speaker 1: the Memorial Cup.
- 23:34Speaker 3: Yeah, four years in the league, right? I mean, that's value.
- 23:36Speaker 3: And I think for the captaincy, for what Rowan brings
- 23:39Speaker 3: to the table, he's going to bring his lunchbox every
- 23:41Speaker 3: day to work, right? You know what you're going to
- 23:43Speaker 3: get from him. He's going to do the dirty things
- 23:44Speaker 3: on the back end. I think it's a no-brainer captaincy
- 23:48Speaker 3: for the Guelph Storm. I know, Brandon, you were there
- 23:50Speaker 3: last Friday night. You see the leadership that they have.
- 23:53Speaker 3: And definitely the guys you bring in, the Owen Griffins,
- 23:56Speaker 3: the Ethan Zadas, those are leaders on other teams previously
- 23:59Speaker 3: coming into this year. So I think that for them
- 24:02Speaker 3: and their captaincy, their leadership group, I mean, it's pretty
- 24:05Speaker 3: star-studded around the league. And a lot of character to
- 24:08Speaker 3: work with there in Guelph. But for Rowan Topp, I mean,
- 24:10Speaker 3: it's a no-brainer. Like I said, he's going to bring
- 24:13Speaker 3: his lunch pail to work every day. And, I mean,
- 24:14Speaker 3: you know what you're going to get from him. He's
- 24:16Speaker 3: a captain when you look at him. And I think
- 24:17Speaker 3: he's a guy that's going to lead the guys in
- 24:19Speaker 3: in the dirty waters any given night, right? You're going
- 24:23Speaker 3: to get his best fight.
- 24:26Speaker 1: And unfortunate news for the Storm, Parker Snellgrove, the team
- 24:29Speaker 1: announced today, will undergo surgery to repair a fractured ankle. Also,
- 24:34Speaker 1: Rylan Singh was injured last week for them as well.
- 24:36Speaker 1: So those are two tough losses for George Burnett. Again,
- 24:39Speaker 1: he's got the draft capital to go and make some
- 24:41Speaker 1: moves as well to potentially replace those two gentlemen there.
- 24:44Speaker 1: But tough news for the Storm, losing two men. key
- 24:48Speaker 1: players in back-to-back weeks.
- 24:50Speaker 3: Yeah, no, it's definitely tough. I mean, like you said,
- 24:52Speaker 3: rather than saying last week, this week, Parker Snellgrove, right?
- 24:55Speaker 3: Those are two guys that are relied upon in their
- 24:57Speaker 3: depth parts of their lineups. One up front, one on
- 24:59Speaker 3: the back end. I mean, this is tough. It's definitely,
- 25:03Speaker 3: if you're the storm and you get them back end
- 25:05Speaker 3: of the, end of the season, beginning of the playoffs, right?
- 25:08Speaker 3: Second round. This is definitely a second round team.
- 25:10Speaker 2: Let's be honest.
- 25:11Speaker 3: They're a team that you expect to win one round
- 25:13Speaker 3: of the postseason. So if you get guys back for
- 25:15Speaker 3: the round two, you're in a pretty good spot. You're
- 25:18Speaker 3: going to get guys relatively healthy going into the deep
- 25:21Speaker 3: part of the playoffs, right? And if you can be
- 25:22Speaker 3: the healthiest team at that point in the season, you
- 25:25Speaker 3: got a good opportunity to win the thing. So I
- 25:26Speaker 3: think for them in the Guelph Storm, you hope for
- 25:29Speaker 3: a good recovery, a safe recovery, and you hope that, hey,
- 25:33Speaker 3: you're able to return this season to be a part
- 25:35Speaker 3: of this special run that the Guelph Storm are expecting
- 25:38Speaker 3: to go on, obviously, with hosting the Memorial Cup.
- 25:40Speaker 1: And then we only had one trade to really go
- 25:42Speaker 1: over this week, Colin. And it's once again, from your
- 25:44Speaker 1: neck of the woods, Spencer Hyman. I don't think the
- 25:46Speaker 1: guy ever sleeps or if he does, he's got a hammock.
- 25:48Speaker 1: He's got a hammock in his office probably, but the
- 25:51Speaker 1: Brantford Bulldogs acquire Oshawa's fifth in 2028 for Joey Banas,
- 25:56Speaker 1: who's been obviously up and down from the junior sabers
- 25:59Speaker 1: of the OJ up with the Bulldogs started the year
- 26:01Speaker 1: with them. What can you tell us about why this
- 26:03Speaker 1: move was made? And what do you think Niagara is
- 26:05Speaker 1: potentially getting in Joey Banas?
- 26:07Speaker 3: Bananas.
- 26:08Speaker 2: No, for sure.
- 26:09Speaker 3: Joey, I mean, this is a great deal for Joey.
- 26:12Speaker 3: And when you see these types of deals, right away
- 26:15Speaker 3: you think about the player, right? And the opportunity Joey
- 26:17Speaker 3: Banas is going to get with the Niagara Ice Dogs
- 26:20Speaker 3: is second to none. This is the best opportunity. There's
- 26:22Speaker 3: maybe another team in the league where he would have
- 26:23Speaker 3: got the same opportunity, but he still has a chance
- 26:27Speaker 3: to probably make the playoffs with the other team. I
- 26:29Speaker 3: don't think he did have a chance to make the
- 26:30Speaker 3: playoffs this season. So I think with Joey Banas to
- 26:32Speaker 3: have that opportunity here in Niagara, going to play regularly,
- 26:36Speaker 3: it sounds like they're going to have him in the
- 26:38Speaker 3: top six. From going back to Buffalo, being on an
- 26:41Speaker 3: AP card with the Brantford Bulldogs to being a top
- 26:44Speaker 3: six guy for a little bit, for at least day
- 26:47Speaker 3: to day, we'll say, as a top six player for
- 26:50Speaker 3: the Niagara Ice Dogs, I think that's cool for the player.
- 26:52Speaker 3: That's the beauty of it. And for the Bulldogs, you
- 26:53Speaker 3: get an extra fifth. They keep getting these picks back,
- 26:56Speaker 3: the Bulldogs. So that's huge for Spencer Hyman and staff.
- 26:59Speaker 3: But for Joey Bannis, first and foremost, the traits for
- 27:02Speaker 3: him to have an opportunity, and it's close to home
- 27:04Speaker 3: in Niagara. And it's a great chance for him to play.
- 27:08Speaker 3: And I think that's so cool for him to get
- 27:10Speaker 3: a chance to play. Right. Maybe ice dogs move out
- 27:12Speaker 3: of captain this year and he gets an extra chance
- 27:15Speaker 3: to play as well. So no pun intended. You know,
- 27:17Speaker 3: I had to get that in there, Brandon, as you're dying. But,
- 27:21Speaker 3: you know, I had to get that in there. So
- 27:22Speaker 3: I think for Joey, first and foremost, it's nice to
- 27:24Speaker 3: see him get the opportunity. And that's the beauty of
- 27:26Speaker 3: this trade. You knew I had to get that in there.
- 27:34Speaker 3: And anyone that's been an OG listener knew I had
- 27:36Speaker 3: to get that in there. Maybe you'll get the call.
- 27:39Speaker 1: Who's stockpiling more mid-round picks? Mark Hunter or Spencer Hyman?
- 27:46Speaker 1: Is this like a race for the two of them?
- 27:48Speaker 3: I feel like it is. I mean, this is interesting, right?
- 27:50Speaker 3: To see the Bulldogs get these picks. They're extendable, right?
- 27:53Speaker 3: You can move up with the multiple picks and get
- 27:55Speaker 3: an extra second with these types of trades that you're making, right?
- 27:58Speaker 3: Move multiple fourths, multiple fifths. and move up to a
- 28:01Speaker 3: third or a second. You can do a lot of
- 28:03Speaker 3: things with these picks, right? And I think for the Knights,
- 28:06Speaker 3: and we talked about this last week with Mike Stubbs, right,
- 28:08Speaker 3: about how I mentioned to him about Spencer Hyman reminds
- 28:10Speaker 3: me so much in a way of what Mark Hunter
- 28:12Speaker 3: does with a lot of Knights. And lucky enough to
- 28:16Speaker 3: see the Bulldogs like this, so to grow up a
- 28:21Speaker 3: Knights fan like that and to see what they do,
- 28:22Speaker 3: you can kind of see the similarities easy. And I
- 28:25Speaker 3: think for Spencer Hyman, it's a no-brainer to keep adding
- 28:28Speaker 3: these picks, and you never know who falls under your
- 28:30Speaker 3: lap here. as the season continues here.
- 28:33Speaker 1: Yeah, and if you want to hear Colin's full thoughts
- 28:36Speaker 1: on the Matthew LeChar eight-game suspension, you can go listen
- 28:39Speaker 1: to his dog cast this week, which is up and available.
- 28:43Speaker 3: Yeah, I had Gene Steratore, Brian Smiley on, beat writer.
- 28:47Speaker 3: Really cool, really cool, the arena update, signing of the Steel, Brandon.
- 28:54Speaker 3: Brian did the VR tour, so we have a promo
- 28:57Speaker 3: out there on social media right now about it, but
- 28:59Speaker 3: We also saw the VR tour of the new arena.
- 29:02Speaker 3: Pretty impressive.
- 29:04Speaker 2: Yep.
- 29:04Speaker 1: So go check out the dog cast this week. We'll
- 29:06Speaker 1: give you a free plug there, Colin, for everything you're
- 29:09Speaker 1: doing there with the bulldogs. Yeah, absolutely. So we'll move
- 29:13Speaker 1: on to our next topic. Jack's going to join us
- 29:14Speaker 1: in about eight minutes or so. So the road to
- 29:17Speaker 1: 68 and oh, the OHL hasn't updated the graphic yet
- 29:19Speaker 1: at the time of recording this, but only the Sudbury
- 29:22Speaker 1: wolves remaining. I picked Brantford. You picked London last week, Colin.
- 29:25Speaker 1: So both of us were wrong. The Sudbury wolves were
- 29:26Speaker 1: the last team. Standing here, again, they've played two less
- 29:29Speaker 1: games than Brantford.
- 29:30Speaker 3: They only played one game.
- 29:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:33Speaker 3: Since recording.
- 29:34Speaker 2: I know.
- 29:34Speaker 3: I should have did it. It was a team on
- 29:36Speaker 3: a back-to-back.
- 29:37Speaker 2: It was a slam dunk.
- 29:38Speaker 1: It was a slam dunk easy one.
- 29:39Speaker 3: But face off was too. And now I'm on the
- 29:42Speaker 3: hot seat.
- 29:43Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:44Speaker 1: Pizza cooked. That's all I got to say about that.
- 29:47Speaker 3: I'm never picking the pizza again. Sorry, Peterborough.
- 29:49Speaker 1: I love Peterborough. I love everybody in that organization and
- 29:52Speaker 1: their fans are great. I love the jerseys, but man,
- 29:55Speaker 1: they're really disappointing me right now. But with that said,
- 29:58Speaker 1: Sudbury wolves, last team undefeated, Colin, you know, five and
- 30:01Speaker 1: O on the season. Again, like I mentioned off the top,
- 30:05Speaker 1: we know we've talked about it at nauseam, both the trade,
- 30:08Speaker 1: but if this team can continue to remain competitive, despite
- 30:11Speaker 1: not being able to make a ton of moves, they've
- 30:14Speaker 1: got a really good shot at when the central division
- 30:15Speaker 1: this year, because I still think it's theirs to lose.
- 30:17Speaker 2: Oh, absolutely.
- 30:18Speaker 3: I think they're the, I think they're the favorites in
- 30:20Speaker 3: the central. I know my tone has changed in the
- 30:22Speaker 3: last three weeks since the trade.
- 30:24Speaker 2: Cool. A little bit.
- 30:25Speaker 3: Well, yeah, I've cooled off, but like, You know, I
- 30:29Speaker 3: think for Sudbury, it's a team that's playing very good
- 30:32Speaker 3: hockey right now. It'll be interesting to see. I don't
- 30:35Speaker 3: know next week if we'll have a show with Thanksgiving,
- 30:37Speaker 3: but the week after, it would be interesting to see
- 30:40Speaker 3: if we could touch on what teams in that point
- 30:43Speaker 3: of the year will be about 10, 15 games into
- 30:45Speaker 3: the season. It'd be interesting to see when we do
- 30:48Speaker 3: our annual segment who's established or not and to see
- 30:51Speaker 3: where the Wolves are because they're scoring on all cylinders.
- 30:55Speaker 3: You look at their goals for and against. They look
- 30:57Speaker 3: pretty good right now. this week. Obviously, that can change
- 31:00Speaker 3: in a blink of an eye with the goals against,
- 31:03Speaker 3: but it's very interesting to see where the Wolves have
- 31:07Speaker 3: started this season. There's a lot of confidence they play with.
- 31:10Speaker 3: I like their coaching staff there. You know, it goes
- 31:14Speaker 3: back to last year. The Wolves, they learned a lot
- 31:16Speaker 3: in that first-round matchup against the Brantford Bulldogs, and they
- 31:18Speaker 3: gave them a tough four games. That was a tough
- 31:21Speaker 3: four games for the Brantford Bulldogs, and I think for Sudbury,
- 31:24Speaker 3: that was a big eye-opener for the rest of the
- 31:27Speaker 3: league to say, hey, the wolves are going to be
- 31:29Speaker 3: scary next year. If they continue to get better throughout
- 31:31Speaker 3: the summer, they've clearly done that. And here we go.
- 31:34Speaker 1: Right?
- 31:35Speaker 3: Like it's the sky's the limit this year. I know
- 31:37Speaker 3: they're going to be aggressive at the deadline. They've already,
- 31:40Speaker 3: if they can with the 15 picks, they gave up.
- 31:43Speaker 3: So maybe they'll do that again if they can, but
- 31:45Speaker 3: you know, that's the thing for the wolves that I
- 31:47Speaker 3: expect them to be super aggressive. They set a tone
- 31:50Speaker 3: here in the off season, beginning of the year, Tanner
- 31:52Speaker 3: Adams trade. I expect them to be, it's going to
- 31:56Speaker 3: be an aggressive year for the Sudbury wolves this season.
- 31:59Speaker 1: Yeah, I think they have to be with the window
- 32:01Speaker 1: they have in the Eastern Conference, pretty much wide open there.
- 32:05Speaker 1: The two teams undefeated, as you can see on this,
- 32:07Speaker 1: or the two teams atop the East and the Western Conference,
- 32:11Speaker 1: the Sioux Greyhounds and the Brantford Bulldogs, two teams we
- 32:13Speaker 1: didn't really talk a lot about going into the season
- 32:16Speaker 1: or preseason rankings, didn't really have them ranked very high. Colin,
- 32:20Speaker 1: I know we were wondering about Brantford and all their
- 32:23Speaker 1: new signings, how things were going to work there. Obviously,
- 32:25Speaker 1: it's worked out really well so far. They just had
- 32:27Speaker 1: their first loss on Sunday up in Owen Sound. So again,
- 32:31Speaker 1: they were 7-0 before that. And the Sioux Greyhounds looking
- 32:34Speaker 1: good in the West Division right now atop the Western Conference,
- 32:38Speaker 1: a team that people were wondering post-Brady Martin era what
- 32:41Speaker 1: that team would look like and post-Carter George. But they
- 32:44Speaker 1: look pretty good now with the new coaching staff and
- 32:46Speaker 1: everything that Sioux has done there. And Kyle Raftis has
- 32:49Speaker 1: done a good job of being able to get some
- 32:51Speaker 1: players to recruit to go there. They lost Chase Reed
- 32:54Speaker 1: as well. So both teams, Brantford and Sioux, definitely lost
- 32:58Speaker 1: out on some high end NHL talent, but have been
- 33:01Speaker 1: able to replenish it. And at least through the first
- 33:03Speaker 1: three weeks of the season, it looks like they're going
- 33:05Speaker 1: to be okay.
- 33:06Speaker 3: Yeah, no, absolutely. I think this team and a Sue St. Marie,
- 33:09Speaker 3: I mean, they're going to be high flying.
- 33:11Speaker 2: I think it's a breath.
- 33:12Speaker 3: I think for Sue St. Marie, you get that opportunity, right.
- 33:15Speaker 3: To have a chance to contribute into the lineup on
- 33:18Speaker 3: a regular. I know Brady Martin, Chase Reed. Now you have,
- 33:22Speaker 3: you go into training camp and the first thing new
- 33:24Speaker 3: coach said, it's a new prove it right. You have
- 33:26Speaker 3: an opportunity. And I think for Sue, it's like, hey,
- 33:30Speaker 3: there's nobody, like the jobs are there, right? You're clearly
- 33:35Speaker 3: the best players are going to play. And that's what
- 33:38Speaker 3: you want as a player, right? You want to get
- 33:39Speaker 3: the opportunity. I think for Sue to go into training
- 33:42Speaker 3: camp like that and you want to win a top
- 33:44Speaker 3: six forward job, it's right there. You want to make
- 33:47Speaker 3: the team, it's right there. Every spot's open. And also
- 33:52Speaker 3: there's somebody there that they're looking for to be relied
- 33:54Speaker 3: upon on a regular, right? Who's going to fill in
- 33:55Speaker 3: for Brady Martin? Maybe it's team committee. which it has
- 33:58Speaker 3: been this season. So I think for the Greyhounds, it's
- 34:00Speaker 3: a great opportunity to see some of these guys with
- 34:02Speaker 3: the new chances that they're getting in the lineup. And
- 34:05Speaker 3: that definitely gives you a little bit of confidence. It
- 34:07Speaker 3: gives you a little bit of freedom to play when
- 34:10Speaker 3: you get an opportunity like that.
- 34:13Speaker 1: Drew Bannister and Michael Babcock Jr. I mean, are those
- 34:16Speaker 1: two guys right now, if we were to redo our
- 34:19Speaker 1: coach of the year, they got to be in consideration
- 34:21Speaker 1: through the, at least through the first three weeks for
- 34:23Speaker 1: what they've been able to do with those two teams.
- 34:25Speaker 3: Yeah, no, absolutely. I mean, for both teams, right. A
- 34:28Speaker 3: lot of new roster spots. You look at Brantford. I mean,
- 34:30Speaker 3: it's completely new, basically. I feel like for both these teams, right.
- 34:35Speaker 3: For the opportunity, when you come into camp, all you
- 34:38Speaker 3: do early when you come into campus, Hey, let's bring
- 34:40Speaker 3: the energy, bring the juice guys. Whoever brings the energy,
- 34:43Speaker 3: brings the juice is going to play right. And your
- 34:45Speaker 3: top six will work its way out. Your bottom six
- 34:47Speaker 3: will work its way out. And that's kind of how
- 34:50Speaker 3: it's going to go. And for these two teams right now,
- 34:52Speaker 3: That's what it is, right? That's what it is. I mean,
- 34:54Speaker 3: for the Bulldogs, the only game they lost was on
- 34:57Speaker 3: a third of a 3-3. They swept the weekend before
- 34:59Speaker 3: in a 3-3, and then they were 2-0 going into
- 35:01Speaker 3: Sunday on the third of a 3-3. And there's like
- 35:04Speaker 3: 10 guys under the weather in Brantford right now. That
- 35:08Speaker 3: flu bug going around, Brandon.
- 35:09Speaker 1: What's going on down there?
- 35:11Speaker 3: Hey, I haven't caught it yet. Is that crazy or what?
- 35:14Speaker 3: Because I'll give you a story about this. And, Brandon,
- 35:17Speaker 3: you know I'm always sick. Whenever there's a flu bug
- 35:19Speaker 3: that comes around, I'm definitely going to get it. And
- 35:21Speaker 3: that's just the way it's going to be. But for
- 35:24Speaker 3: it's wild because right now Liza's workplace has a lot
- 35:28Speaker 3: of people sick. I have a lot of people sick
- 35:30Speaker 3: in Brantford, but Hey, I'm not coughing. I feel fine.
- 35:36Speaker 3: Here we go. Here we go. You know, I don't
- 35:38Speaker 3: get sick anymore.

- 37:23Speaker 4: You're listening to the OHL in 60 podcast right here
- 37:27Speaker 4: on the Armchair GM Sports Network.
- 37:47Speaker 1: We got about three minutes here before Jack joins us, Colin.
- 37:51Speaker 1: So I think this would be a good chance for
- 37:52Speaker 1: us to just whiz through the power rankings real quick
- 37:56Speaker 1: because we got to give a quick shout out to
- 37:59Speaker 1: Sarnia because they've obviously played really well. You know, third
- 38:02Speaker 1: place in the Western Conference right now. That's been our
- 38:07Speaker 1: major effect this year. We're trying to will the Sarnia
- 38:09Speaker 1: sting into a solid playoff spot. But going from 16
- 38:13Speaker 1: to 1 here, North Bay Battalion dropped three spots. Eriotters
- 38:16Speaker 1: at 15. Windsor Spitfires at 14, going up three spots. 13,
- 38:20Speaker 1: the Owen Sound attack. Number 12, the Kitchener Rangers. 11,
- 38:24Speaker 1: the Peterborough Peets cooked. Number 10, the Sarnia Stings stay there.
- 38:28Speaker 1: I feel like they maybe earned a little bit more
- 38:30Speaker 1: respect than being at 10, but it is what it is.
- 38:33Speaker 1: Kingston Frontenac's down 2 to number 9. Sarnia Sting down
- 38:36Speaker 1: 2 to 8. Sioux Greyhounds up 5 to number 7,
- 38:39Speaker 1: as we mentioned there, atop the Western Conference. Ottawa 67
- 38:42Speaker 1: is up to six. London Knights dropped four spots to
- 38:46Speaker 1: number five. The Flint Firebirds up to four. The Brantford
- 38:49Speaker 1: Bulldogs up to three. Sudbury Wolves two and the Gulf
- 38:52Speaker 1: Storm back up to one. So interesting there with the
- 38:55Speaker 1: power rankings. I don't know if you've got any quick
- 38:56Speaker 1: thoughts on that.
- 38:58Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, obviously, I think I'm going to have
- 39:01Speaker 3: to do our top five again soon, Brandon. It's almost
- 39:04Speaker 3: it's a month into the season. I think maybe next
- 39:06Speaker 3: week I might have to break it out because you
- 39:08Speaker 3: know what really bugs me? You're welcome, Niagara. You're welcome, Oshawa.
- 39:13Speaker 3: Jack's going to love this. This is a great segue
- 39:15Speaker 3: for Jack.
- 39:16Speaker 2: And he's waiting.
- 39:17Speaker 3: Where are they? Where are they on the power rankings?
- 39:20Speaker 3: I mean, the generals at three and four have definitely
- 39:24Speaker 3: deserved a spot in the top 16. To say the
- 39:27Speaker 3: generals are in the top 16? Like, come on. on
- 39:30Speaker 3: you can cue jack and brandon if you want but
- 39:32Speaker 3: there's no way there's no way the oshawa generals should
- 39:37Speaker 3: not be in the top 16 the power rankings and
- 39:39Speaker 3: i know every week there's a little bit of drama
- 39:41Speaker 3: about it and hey i'll i'll contribute my part to
- 39:44Speaker 3: the drama but the oshawa generals at three and four
- 39:47Speaker 3: are absolutely a top 16 team right now in the
- 39:49Speaker 3: OHL and you can't deny it.
- 39:52Speaker 1: An amazing segue there, Colin, as we welcome on the, uh,
- 39:55Speaker 1: Oshawa generals voice on the Oshawa generals audio broadcast, the
- 39:59Speaker 1: one and the only Jack Moore, Jack, appreciate you joining
- 40:01Speaker 1: us here for segment two. We'll give you a quick
- 40:03Speaker 1: thoughts to talk about the power rankings and your thoughts
- 40:06Speaker 1: on everything there. But, uh, you know, I know it's
- 40:08Speaker 1: been a gauntlet of a few weeks for you, uh,
- 40:10Speaker 1: with football and the OHL as well and doing your
- 40:14Speaker 1: CFL stuff as well. So, uh, I really appreciate you
- 40:17Speaker 1: taking the time here on I'm sure a Monday where
- 40:18Speaker 1: you'd probably like to be just relaxing and enjoying yourself.
- 40:21Speaker 2: It's always great to talk to you guys and see
- 40:24Speaker 2: you guys. So I have no issue.
- 40:26Speaker 6: And, you know, we got a little bit of time
- 40:28Speaker 6: before we watch your Falcons lose in New Orleans.
- 40:31Speaker 2: So it's a good setup right now.
- 40:34Speaker 6: But as as per the the power rankings here, you know,
- 40:38Speaker 6: I kind of hold this when it comes to you
- 40:40Speaker 6: sports football power rankings and rankings in general. and the
- 40:45Speaker 6: OHL power rankings, they're nothing more than really it comes
- 40:49Speaker 6: down to like, luckily, this league, 620 playoffs, and then
- 40:53Speaker 6: you got to go win four rounds to be OHL champions.
- 40:56Speaker 6: So you just got to go out and win OUA football.
- 40:59Speaker 6: If you're mad, you missed seven out of 11 teams.
- 41:01Speaker 6: And then you got to go win either two or
- 41:03Speaker 6: three playoff games and semi in a national championship. So
- 41:07Speaker 6: it's not like rankings hold any validity on whether teams
- 41:10Speaker 6: are going to make the playoffs or not.
- 41:12Speaker 2: I do agree with it. Absolutely.
- 41:14Speaker 6: A top 16 team in the OHL. Am I going
- 41:17Speaker 6: to get hot and bothered about it? No, no, because
- 41:20Speaker 6: I know that part of it is just for them
- 41:23Speaker 6: to churn up a little bit of the drama and say,
- 41:27Speaker 6: you know, put somebody in a spot that's going to
- 41:29Speaker 6: generate talk and buzz about it, which is great.
- 41:31Speaker 2: And I think it's great to get thinking about the league.
- 41:33Speaker 6: And if you're upset by it, it means that you're
- 41:35Speaker 6: passionate about the, I'm never going to fall to anybody
- 41:38Speaker 6: about being passionate about the OHL. I'm passionate about the
- 41:41Speaker 6: league as well. Um, but to me, you know, I
- 41:44Speaker 6: kind of, and I'm from being in OU, I played
- 41:46Speaker 6: on a team who was projected to be four and
- 41:48Speaker 6: four first round exit in the playoffs. We went seven
- 41:51Speaker 6: and one and won a championship and got throttled by
- 41:54Speaker 6: LaValle in a national semifinal. But you know, we, we
- 41:57Speaker 6: did what nobody expected, but we, we won the games
- 42:00Speaker 6: on the field and that's all you can do is
- 42:02Speaker 6: win the games on.
- 42:03Speaker 2: If you do that, then you're going to be in
- 42:05Speaker 2: the playoffs and you have a fight. Yeah.
- 42:07Speaker 1: Kind of like the new England Patriots yesterday.
- 42:08Speaker 2: Right, Jack?
- 42:08Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 42:10Speaker 1: Hey, listen, you started it saying.
- 42:13Speaker 2: That I'm good. I'm done. I'm done for the night.
- 42:16Speaker 1: I knew you were going to leave on that comment,
- 42:18Speaker 1: but Jack, obviously we want to talk to you about
- 42:22Speaker 1: the generals. And, and I mean, you've been calling the
- 42:24Speaker 1: games there for five years now with the generals for.
- 42:28Speaker 2: My sixth season with the team.
- 42:30Speaker 6: It's my fifth as like just me as main guys here,
- 42:35Speaker 6: about 50, 50 with Calamang.
- 42:37Speaker 2: In 21-22 sixth year with the team.
- 42:40Speaker 1: Yeah um and again like the generals audio broadcast you
- 42:45Speaker 1: travel with the team everything like that obviously they went
- 42:47Speaker 1: through a couple of great seasons there as back-to-back you
- 42:50Speaker 1: know bobby or trophy winners as eastern conference champions you
- 42:54Speaker 1: know what can you tell us about how special those
- 42:56Speaker 1: two runs you know you travel with the team i'm
- 42:57Speaker 1: sure a lot of fun road stories some you probably
- 43:00Speaker 1: can and some you probably can't tell uh on a
- 43:02Speaker 1: pg show but Regardless of that, how fun were those
- 43:05Speaker 1: two runs there? And is there anything that sticks out
- 43:07Speaker 1: to your mind just about those two teams and why
- 43:09Speaker 1: it was so special with, obviously, a franchise in Oshawa
- 43:12Speaker 1: that has such storied history?
- 43:14Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, I think the first run was a
- 43:18Speaker 6: lot of the... Nobody really predicted when they finished first
- 43:22Speaker 6: Eastern Conference. It was in the Eastern Conference. Actually, it
- 43:27Speaker 6: was Zarnie and Windsor that really turned it around. Oshawa
- 43:29Speaker 6: has this weekend coming up. I remember going into that 9-12, 1-1,
- 43:36Speaker 6: and then finished the year with 40 wins, 19 regulation losses,
- 43:40Speaker 6: and then I think it was like seven or eight
- 43:42Speaker 6: judo losses. So the team got really down the stretch
- 43:46Speaker 6: of the season and just played really well. Callum Ritchie
- 43:49Speaker 6: came back from Connor Lockhart, came in from Peterborough right
- 43:52Speaker 6: around them, and he had Zach Sandu at the deadline,
- 43:55Speaker 6: and that changes things a lot for Oshawa.
- 43:57Speaker 2: So I think... you know, back to that team.
- 44:00Speaker 3: Wow.
- 44:00Speaker 2: What a, like, this is incredible.
- 44:01Speaker 6: The team was accomplishing expectations. Like I, uh, I missed
- 44:06Speaker 6: our trip to Michigan, Adam Dunn for me. And he
- 44:10Speaker 6: did an interview with Roger Hunt right after the deadline
- 44:13Speaker 6: or right before the deadline. Um, and his comments were,
- 44:16Speaker 6: you know, we're going to tinker, but we're not going
- 44:18Speaker 6: to say we're going to add some You know, other
- 44:21Speaker 6: pieces around the roster.
- 44:23Speaker 2: To cut a little bit.
- 44:24Speaker 6: The goal is for this group who like for the
- 44:26Speaker 6: most part, a lot of these guys are going to
- 44:28Speaker 6: be back next season. Let's get a round win in
- 44:31Speaker 6: the playoff round two and see where the cards fall
- 44:34Speaker 6: from there. Oshawa had a tough time against first round
- 44:37Speaker 6: that year. They won, but then swept Ottawa and then
- 44:40Speaker 6: they won three Eastern Conference final. North Bay won three straight.
- 44:43Speaker 6: We went to a game and that seven I've ever
- 44:46Speaker 6: called was it was. You know, right at the Trinity Center,
- 44:49Speaker 6: Oshawa coming away with the sixth play in the game.
- 44:52Speaker 6: Connor Pond shift with the high end fighting to get
- 44:56Speaker 6: off the ice just because he blocked a shot actually
- 44:58Speaker 6: with that on the ice.
- 45:00Speaker 2: It's incredible. That was special.
- 45:02Speaker 6: And then going into the finals that it was going
- 45:05Speaker 6: to be a long shot and they got swept away
- 45:07Speaker 6: by london and next year it was the team kind
- 45:10Speaker 6: of struggled in the regular it wasn't able to find
- 45:12Speaker 6: their footing um and into the playoff that they were
- 45:16Speaker 6: a tough team to you know be a tough out
- 45:18Speaker 6: on and and the east was loaded that season they
- 45:21Speaker 6: had brampton in the first round martone uh carson rake
- 45:24Speaker 6: and um you know angus macton is going to be
- 45:27Speaker 6: the biggest x-factor in that series got hurt he was
- 45:30Speaker 6: hurt going into the playoffs hurt in game one or
- 45:32Speaker 6: game two and it really uh played a factor for
- 45:35Speaker 6: them obviously bram two and nick lardis going down um
- 45:39Speaker 6: and oshawa degrees and then played tough games against eastern
- 45:42Speaker 6: conference final but they got a sweep and then one
- 45:44Speaker 6: game one of the finals and it felt like a
- 45:47Speaker 6: dance and You know, played London tough a couple times,
- 45:50Speaker 6: but they were even better the season before, which was
- 45:53Speaker 6: crazy to think with how good 2024 that they are
- 45:57Speaker 6: in 2025.
- 45:58Speaker 3: Jack, you mentioned the team those years, Jacob Oster, someone
- 46:02Speaker 3: that had a huge impact, obviously comes over from Guelph,
- 46:05Speaker 3: gets that opportunity. We saw an opportunity trade today in
- 46:08Speaker 3: the Ontario Hockey League, and Jacob Oster gets a chance
- 46:12Speaker 3: in Oshawa. The impact that he had on the Generals,
- 46:15Speaker 3: how huge was he for the organization in a whole?
- 46:18Speaker 2: I mean, just everything about him was awesome.
- 46:20Speaker 6: Like he was this guy off the ice, hard worker on,
- 46:23Speaker 6: I think when he came over and he just had
- 46:25Speaker 6: a run like right up, he was eight, you know,
- 46:28Speaker 6: like you mentioned, just try to get a little bit
- 46:30Speaker 6: of playing and see what he could do. And I
- 46:33Speaker 6: think he had like three first four or five and
- 46:36Speaker 6: he was just playing. And then things started to fall off.
- 46:38Speaker 6: Oshawa wasn't the best team that year. And then they
- 46:41Speaker 6: get bounced in five games in the first round, but he,
- 46:45Speaker 6: really changed his approach in the offseason and changed a
- 46:49Speaker 6: lot of his training. And then he got an opportunity
- 46:53Speaker 6: to go to L.A. camp and he stuck around because
- 46:56Speaker 6: the Kings that year went and played preseason games in Australia.
- 47:00Speaker 6: So they took 25 guys to Australia, but they left
- 47:03Speaker 6: 40 guys backing. That opened up some extra roster spots
- 47:06Speaker 6: for guys who normally wouldn't be there. And in NHL
- 47:11Speaker 6: facilities around NHL guys, um, on the daily.
- 47:15Speaker 2: And, and I think that experience really helped him.
- 47:18Speaker 6: And then when he came back to Oshawa, you really
- 47:20Speaker 6: saw together and you could be on, like if, if
- 47:22Speaker 6: Oster was on, it was going to be a tough
- 47:24Speaker 6: night to beat him. And, and I think pension game
- 47:26Speaker 6: seven of the 2024 Eastern conference final, um, I think
- 47:30Speaker 6: North Bay shots in the 45th of the game, um,
- 47:33Speaker 6: blurry on that. And Oster kept out Oshawa kind of
- 47:36Speaker 6: ease their way into the game. And then eventually, um,
- 47:39Speaker 6: The generals got their legs and won it 6-1. But
- 47:41Speaker 6: without that start from Oster, I don't think a win
- 47:45Speaker 6: would go.
- 47:46Speaker 2: He was just a presence in that, right? He played
- 47:48Speaker 2: 60 games one year.
- 47:49Speaker 6: He was up over 50 the year after. Knew you
- 47:52Speaker 6: were going to get a good fighting performance that single night.
- 47:55Speaker 6: And he was always great with the fans. Always take photos.
- 47:58Speaker 6: He was always signing jerseys. I remember he got injured
- 48:02Speaker 6: in the season in his last year in the OHL
- 48:07Speaker 6: on Peterborough and he was sitting in the radio booth
- 48:09Speaker 6: beside and there was a couple fans who were sitting
- 48:12Speaker 6: in front of us and like leaning over the glass
- 48:15Speaker 6: during the game trying to talk to him and he
- 48:17Speaker 6: was talking right back I'm like guys on air right
- 48:19Speaker 6: now like I'm doing a show like this is great
- 48:22Speaker 6: but like outside and he's like no no i'm comfy
- 48:25Speaker 6: here i got a seat i was like oh i'm
- 48:27Speaker 6: glad you're having fun yeah i appreciate that um but
- 48:32Speaker 6: it's it's hard to talk about that because he's just
- 48:35Speaker 6: uh an incredible personality so um i love ozzy i
- 48:39Speaker 6: always love talking to him when i think i stay
- 48:41Speaker 6: away from the goalies i don't want but he's a
- 48:43Speaker 6: little bit different but he always wanted to talk and
- 48:46Speaker 6: i you know was happy to talk to him because
- 48:49Speaker 6: he was one of the best i got stewart and
- 48:51Speaker 6: rehabbing from an injury he had at Vermont and now
- 48:54Speaker 6: hopefully see him play some games, uh, for the university
- 48:57Speaker 6: of Vermont this season. And, um, really hoping that he
- 49:00Speaker 6: has a, after Oshawa was, was so impressive.
- 49:03Speaker 3: A hundred percent.
- 49:04Speaker 2: I mean, he was great.
- 49:05Speaker 1: Jack, we're having a little bit of issue with you.
- 49:07Speaker 1: I'm just going to remove you. If you can join back, uh,
- 49:10Speaker 1: we've got a little bit of an audio issue there.
- 49:12Speaker 1: We are live. So I'm just going to take you
- 49:14Speaker 1: off the stream. Just join back on the link. So,
- 49:16Speaker 1: we got more to discuss with radio voice, Jack Moore,
- 49:19Speaker 1: Colin of the Oshawa generals. I want to get his
- 49:21Speaker 1: thoughts on a little bit of the current team as well,
- 49:24Speaker 1: but yeah, those great stories from those two runs that
- 49:26Speaker 1: he had, like, you know, going to back-to-back OHL finals. Like,
- 49:29Speaker 1: as you mentioned, bringing up Jacob Oster and some of
- 49:31Speaker 1: those other, great players they had right it's just a
- 49:34Speaker 1: it's a fun time.
- 49:35Speaker 3: Yeah that roster and it's gonna be interesting to see
- 49:36Speaker 3: where we get into the story now with the current
- 49:38Speaker 3: roster right like it's i can't wait to hear about
- 49:41Speaker 3: some of these players that they have now that are
- 49:43Speaker 3: high expectations you could say this year right they've kind
- 49:46Speaker 3: of proven themselves jack welcome back can't include to you
- 49:49Speaker 3: obviously first overall pick there's a lot of pressure that
- 49:51Speaker 3: comes with first over with the first overall pick of
- 49:54Speaker 3: the in the ontario hockey league how has he handled
- 49:56Speaker 3: that pressure here a month into the season training camp
- 49:59Speaker 3: i mean the kids now that come into the league
- 50:00Speaker 3: it feels like they're pros already But how has he
- 50:03Speaker 3: handled that pressure in your opinion so far? What's he
- 50:05Speaker 3: been like to work with here on a daily?
- 50:07Speaker 2: Yeah, he's an incredible player.
- 50:09Speaker 6: He just oozes it and he oozes the confidence. Last night,
- 50:13Speaker 6: he led the generals in time on ice as a
- 50:15Speaker 6: forward in the game. He's just so calm and collected
- 50:20Speaker 6: with the puck. He's a really great young man. And
- 50:23Speaker 6: when you talk to him, he seems a little bit
- 50:25Speaker 6: shy and a little bit quiet.
- 50:27Speaker 2: And he's full of speed. And he's also mixed it
- 50:30Speaker 2: up a couple times.
- 50:32Speaker 6: You know, with his size, you see it there, six foot,
- 50:34Speaker 6: 100 pounds, you don't really expect it. Not afraid to
- 50:37Speaker 6: get into the dirty air to the battle. Up for himself, too,
- 50:40Speaker 6: which is quite impressive for a 16-year-old OHL. So I've
- 50:44Speaker 6: been really impressed. I know he kind of came out
- 50:47Speaker 6: of the gate really quick with two goals and an assist.
- 50:51Speaker 6: Two games and that opens. But I think for him,
- 50:55Speaker 6: just with the skill that he has and the games
- 50:58Speaker 6: that he's played, Points will come, keeps going the way
- 51:00Speaker 6: that he's going because he's been so incredible to watch
- 51:04Speaker 6: right off the jump.
- 51:05Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 51:05Speaker 3: A lot of energy.
- 51:06Speaker 1: Guy I want to bring up, Jack, as we look
- 51:09Speaker 1: at the Oshawa Generals kind of leaders and points there.
- 51:12Speaker 1: Harrison Franzen, you know, he's been with the team for
- 51:14Speaker 1: quite a while now. He's the captain of the Oshawa
- 51:17Speaker 1: Generals now. He's been through it. through the ups and
- 51:19Speaker 1: the downs with this organization he was a later round
- 51:22Speaker 1: draft pick as well like a guy that's that's really
- 51:24Speaker 1: you know a good story as far as being a
- 51:26Speaker 1: former ninth round pick in the Ontario Hockey League in
- 51:29Speaker 1: 2022 and now in his fourth year as a general
- 51:31Speaker 1: like what have you seen from his growth from a
- 51:34Speaker 1: young man to now becoming the captain of this organization.
- 51:36Speaker 6: Yeah, I think it's, it's an interesting part with person
- 51:39Speaker 6: because I brought it up to him a few times,
- 51:41Speaker 6: but the guy who was a late bloomer into the
- 51:43Speaker 6: OHL didn't really get his first full season until he
- 51:46Speaker 6: was 18. I was 17 year old. He was a
- 51:48Speaker 6: call up for Oshawa. And that was the first year
- 51:51Speaker 6: they made a run to the OHL finals. And I
- 51:53Speaker 6: remember he got a couple of games in, he looked
- 51:55Speaker 6: really good. You know, you see the two games with
- 51:57Speaker 6: one assist there. I think he, got an assist in
- 52:00Speaker 6: his OHL debut in Peterborough early on. But then all
- 52:03Speaker 6: of a sudden, you know, game seven, an Eastern Conference
- 52:06Speaker 6: final against North Carolina, the number one, Dylan Robrick and
- 52:10Speaker 6: Luke could see it from there and just the work ethic.
- 52:13Speaker 6: And I kind of put him and Luke Torrance in
- 52:16Speaker 6: that similar bucket where they got the work ethic, the
- 52:19Speaker 6: leadership on and off the ice for Harrison France. And
- 52:23Speaker 6: the captaincy this year was really just the culmination hard
- 52:27Speaker 6: work and time and dedication he put in uh over
- 52:30Speaker 6: the course of his career he's so fun because he
- 52:34Speaker 6: he just never gives up on a play never gives
- 52:36Speaker 6: up on a shift uh and his willingness to block
- 52:39Speaker 6: shots we were watching a pre-season game in niagara i
- 52:42Speaker 6: think on the call with me and he was getting
- 52:45Speaker 6: down and blocking shots on the penalty season game early
- 52:48Speaker 6: on and it was hey like this is you know
- 52:51Speaker 6: a little bit for the regular season here we don't
- 52:53Speaker 6: want you to foot or a hand injury early on
- 52:56Speaker 6: in the preseason, but he'll play the game one way. And,
- 53:00Speaker 6: you know, that, that the, the leader by your play.
- 53:04Speaker 2: On the ice.
- 53:04Speaker 6: And I think for him, it's, it's just kind of
- 53:06Speaker 6: always been that go to work mentality and story of
- 53:10Speaker 6: him going from a ninth round pick and not getting
- 53:12Speaker 6: much time in the old 16 and 17 to being
- 53:15Speaker 6: and part for the last years for Oshawa and now
- 53:18Speaker 6: the captain of the team. And even so, like after
- 53:20Speaker 6: Ben Danford was traded, who in Oshawa before he went
- 53:23Speaker 6: to Brantford, a trade Oshawa captain, but it was pretty
- 53:26Speaker 6: clear being around the team that Harrison Franson was the
- 53:29Speaker 6: lead official.
- 53:30Speaker 2: Jersey just wore an a throughout the rest of them.
- 53:33Speaker 6: And I think it's, it's just all that heart he's
- 53:35Speaker 6: put in.
- 53:35Speaker 2: Oh, then it carries over game after game.
- 53:38Speaker 3: Well, you know what, Jack, there's been, And it's funny,
- 53:40Speaker 3: we talk about on the ice, but off the ice,
- 53:43Speaker 3: the generals were one of those first franchises with this
- 53:45Speaker 3: new landscape with the NCAA agreement with the CHL were
- 53:49Speaker 3: one of those first franchises even before the agreement update
- 53:52Speaker 3: the facilities, the facilities, and obviously the big facility upgrade
- 53:55Speaker 3: this off season and these the next couple of years
- 53:58Speaker 3: to come. Jack, how, what does that mean for the
- 54:00Speaker 3: generals in this new age of hockey to really like
- 54:03Speaker 3: to be the first at the table and really set them,
- 54:05Speaker 3: set the tone here in this market? of what the
- 54:07Speaker 3: new landscape is into what are the new digs like?
- 54:10Speaker 6: Yeah, I think it's in Joshua because they made a
- 54:12Speaker 6: whole changes in the off season and getting to go
- 54:15Speaker 6: through the room. Now it's pretty incredible to watch and
- 54:18Speaker 6: see how it's changed over the course of the last year.
- 54:21Speaker 6: And some of the stuff asked and you're.
- 54:23Speaker 2: Like, did we really need this?
- 54:24Speaker 6: Is this, you know, I know it's an upgrade and
- 54:26Speaker 6: it's nice to have, but we're already talking about a
- 54:30Speaker 6: team who had arguably the best facility.
- 54:32Speaker 2: In the Ontario hockey league.
- 54:34Speaker 6: And then adding to it like this new facility, um,
- 54:37Speaker 6: happy pool that they have is just incredible. There's a
- 54:39Speaker 6: treadmill in there. You can swim against the waves. They
- 54:42Speaker 6: have a bike into it. Guys can do some kind
- 54:46Speaker 6: of recovery in the pool, but then you can also
- 54:48Speaker 6: use it in a variety of different ways. They, they
- 54:50Speaker 6: changed losses for, um, the coach or a big, nice
- 54:54Speaker 6: upgrade in there. And then the family lounge that comes in, um,
- 54:57Speaker 6: you know, in the dressing room, they didn't much except
- 55:00Speaker 6: the low above the middle of the dressing room. But
- 55:03Speaker 6: then around the new turf that's in there, the walls,
- 55:07Speaker 6: the gym has been expanded. So it got shifted down
- 55:11Speaker 6: and they got more space.
- 55:12Speaker 2: They still have the rapid shot shooting machine.
- 55:14Speaker 6: So you see guys working on shots before and after
- 55:17Speaker 6: games and all that stuff. You know, at their fingertips
- 55:22Speaker 6: to make themselves better is so impressive. And I think
- 55:25Speaker 6: it takes those guys who didn't start in Oshawa to
- 55:29Speaker 6: Oshawa to say like, hey, you guys– better appreciate all
- 55:33Speaker 6: this stuff that you have here because not everybody has
- 55:36Speaker 6: a level of facilities. So to see them not get complacent,
- 55:40Speaker 6: I think is the most impressive thing is that it's like, Hey,
- 55:43Speaker 6: we already have the best facilities in the OHL. We're
- 55:45Speaker 6: going to wait until somebody else adds in something. It's no,
- 55:49Speaker 6: we're going to keep envelope here. And, You know, over
- 55:52Speaker 6: the course next year and a half, we're going to
- 55:54Speaker 6: see some that's going to be more fan team store
- 55:58Speaker 6: at the back of the concourse, which is incredible. So
- 56:00Speaker 6: the store is just a custom place for the second period.
- 56:03Speaker 6: It'll be ready to go game a new team store
- 56:07Speaker 6: where the Hall of Fame used to be. That's bigger
- 56:09Speaker 6: and brighter and has all the bells and whistles and
- 56:12Speaker 6: all the gear that you can imagine.
- 56:14Speaker 2: It's very impressive.
- 56:16Speaker 6: Um, and then there's going to be a new waiting area,
- 56:18Speaker 6: be an indoor facility.
- 56:20Speaker 2: That's where the sports hall of fame is.
- 56:22Speaker 6: Uh, so people in the winter won't have in front
- 56:25Speaker 6: of gate one, the area, uh, coming into the game.
- 56:28Speaker 6: And it's a little bit more accessible for the Oshawa
- 56:31Speaker 6: sports hall of fame to have more focused stuff in
- 56:35Speaker 6: to go and search for it. Um, and then some
- 56:38Speaker 6: of the, the months that are going to happen as well.
- 56:40Speaker 6: And then the addition of seats, uh, is going to
- 56:43Speaker 6: be impressive. So just that mindset of, of not be
- 56:46Speaker 6: some are put a million dollars and then to the
- 56:49Speaker 6: facility over the next couple of years, I really have
- 56:51Speaker 6: to give a ton of credit to the city of
- 56:54Speaker 6: to OVG that runs the rank and then to Rocco
- 56:57Speaker 6: Tulio and the general thought process in, but the executed
- 57:02Speaker 6: is quite impressed.
- 57:03Speaker 3: A hundred percent. I mean, Jack, the black and gold
- 57:05Speaker 3: game this weekend, you mentioned the hall of fame in Oshawa,
- 57:07Speaker 3: the black and gold game this weekend, How cool is
- 57:10Speaker 3: that to be able to be the voice here of
- 57:11Speaker 3: the generals and have that historic organization that the generals
- 57:15Speaker 3: do and to be able to broadcast game on black
- 57:17Speaker 3: and gold night, it's gotta be pretty special for yourself
- 57:20Speaker 3: and the tradition of the generals. How important is that
- 57:22Speaker 3: to continue the tradition with this renovation?
- 57:24Speaker 6: Yeah, I think, I think that's a really hard to
- 57:27Speaker 6: get this nice new facility.
- 57:29Speaker 2: That's so impressive.
- 57:30Speaker 6: And, and, and, but you're reminded of, of all that
- 57:34Speaker 6: comes with this team and, why the team is named
- 57:37Speaker 6: the way that it is. And it's, it's all for,
- 57:39Speaker 6: you know, this in the workers and the people who
- 57:42Speaker 6: built and general motors for having the facility and all
- 57:45Speaker 6: the jobs that came with it and living in and
- 57:47Speaker 6: making Oshawa.
- 57:48Speaker 2: Able city that it is.
- 57:51Speaker 6: It's really impressive, but it's also, I know to ownership
- 57:55Speaker 6: and to the generals to, you know, not forget what
- 57:58Speaker 6: what's come before. And it's easy to see when you rank,
- 58:01Speaker 6: I mean, you know, the band with Oshawa and, you know,
- 58:04Speaker 6: I agree with is there's only three types of banners
- 58:08Speaker 6: that get raised to the rafters at the Tribute Community Center.
- 58:11Speaker 2: And that's J.
- 58:11Speaker 6: Ross Robertson Cups and retired jerseys. There's no championship banners
- 58:17Speaker 6: hanging up. There's no conference banner. There's really, you know,
- 58:21Speaker 6: two that the team will and really have to and.
- 58:25Speaker 2: Forward faithfully for Oshawa.
- 58:26Speaker 6: There is so much history that quite a bit of
- 58:29Speaker 6: players and guys who did wear the black and gold
- 58:31Speaker 6: jerseys who didn't, who were before it's incredible line of
- 58:35Speaker 6: history of the organization impressive but to have and probably
- 58:39Speaker 6: the most um recognizable in the history of the Oshawa
- 58:42Speaker 6: Jazz Bobby Orr and wear those jerseys and and see
- 58:46Speaker 6: a different brand I know everybody's bought into it we've
- 58:48Speaker 6: already gotten some gear uh showing up with that line
- 58:53Speaker 6: um to see the new black and gold stuff and
- 58:55Speaker 6: it just gives a different feel and um it's kind
- 58:58Speaker 6: of this nice balance of Having that back and forth.
- 59:02Speaker 6: One of the things that I'm so impressed with is
- 59:04Speaker 6: one of our stats He was actually the guy, while
- 59:08Speaker 6: he was a teacher, who was responsible for Bobby Orr
- 59:10Speaker 6: billeted in Oshawa. He let him play games on the
- 59:14Speaker 6: generals because they didn't want him to miss school. And
- 59:16Speaker 6: Gary was the traveling secretary and he was a teacher
- 59:20Speaker 6: in Oshawa. So he set up all the bills for
- 59:22Speaker 6: Bobby Orr and got him to live full to make
- 59:25Speaker 6: sure he wasn't missing any days of school.
- 59:27Speaker 2: And his parents finally signed up.
- 59:29Speaker 6: He could live in Oshawa and not miss any games
- 59:31Speaker 6: or any Friday night games that were a little too
- 59:34Speaker 6: far away from Perry Sound because Bobby had to be
- 59:37Speaker 6: in school.
- 59:38Speaker 2: So to still be able to tell those.
- 59:40Speaker 6: Stories from those days and then now to see he's
- 59:44Speaker 6: on the ice finds you of work and is in
- 59:47Speaker 6: Oshawa about the it really is an honor. It's every
- 59:51Speaker 6: once in a while during the season, I just start
- 59:53Speaker 6: to look around at all the stuff, almost like a
- 59:56Speaker 6: pinch me moment of, like this is that I get
- 59:58Speaker 6: to call games for and it's, it's my hometown team,
- 1:00:01Speaker 6: which is cool, but the organization and in reality, um, it,
- 1:00:05Speaker 6: it's really quite impressive and it's never, um, you know,
- 1:00:09Speaker 6: how lucky I am to call games for, for this organ.
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: Uh, obviously that's a great accomplishment and walking across that
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: catwalk every, every game as well, I'm sure is a,
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: is a treat. Uh, I don't know if I could
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: do it every single game as a terrified Heights as
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: I am, but I'm sure it's just second nature to
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: you now and you can do it with your eyes closed. But, uh,
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: My last question for you, Jack, is that, you know,
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: the generals have going off of Colin's point with the
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: renovations and the landscape changing in junior hockey, the generals
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: have had the stability in the front office with Mike
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: Kelly and Roger Hunt over the years. And I know
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: they've turned over some head coaches, but in the right reasons,
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: you know, Brad Malone moving on, you know, getting a
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: pro gig, Derek Laxtal getting an AHL gig, now Mario
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: Pooley out there. So the generals, you know, they're losing coaches,
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: but it's because they're graduating onto the pro level. Like
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: what are you seeing from the front office, the coaching
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: staff and getting, you know, the players to commit, to stay.
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: Brooks Rogowski being one of them, obviously with the Michigan
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: State commit, he decides to come back to Oshawa for
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: another year and getting those free agents and just how,
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: I guess, Oshawa is still a destination more so than ever,
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: you know, up there with teams like London to be
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: able to get players to commit, stay with your program
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: and want to develop, you know, in the OHL before
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: they go on to whatever their next level is.
- 1:01:19Speaker 6: Yeah, I always use London as a reference, obviously, because
- 1:01:23Speaker 6: of where they've been the Hunter's ownership there. You look
- 1:01:27Speaker 6: at them and the head coach and the owner are
- 1:01:29Speaker 6: on the same page there, which is quite impressive. Now
- 1:01:31Speaker 6: the head might not necessarily be on the same page,
- 1:01:34Speaker 6: but the head owner, because it's the same guy. And,
- 1:01:38Speaker 6: you know, for Mark Hunter and Dale to build the
- 1:01:40Speaker 6: program that they've built there is impressive. But that continuity,
- 1:01:44Speaker 6: you're getting the same time. And I think that's what's important.
- 1:01:47Speaker 6: You're getting the same level of coaching. You're getting the
- 1:01:49Speaker 6: same mentorship. And I think Oshawa is really impressed with
- 1:01:53Speaker 6: what the coach has gone through is you're getting guys
- 1:01:55Speaker 6: with pro experience. You're getting guys who have been there
- 1:02:00Speaker 6: at the junior hockey level. My general, Derek Laxtal, as
- 1:02:03Speaker 6: that first head coach, we full-time in the OHL, and
- 1:02:08Speaker 6: he does as well as he does in Oshawa and
- 1:02:09Speaker 6: gets a job in the American Hockey League. He had
- 1:02:12Speaker 6: been on an NHL bench. Steve O'Rourke took over after that.
- 1:02:16Speaker 6: He had access in junior hockey and found a long time,
- 1:02:20Speaker 6: and then Brad Malone got a playing career professional playing career,
- 1:02:24Speaker 6: but he was in some really good coaches and Mario
- 1:02:27Speaker 6: that season and then American Hockey League and Mario takes
- 1:02:30Speaker 6: over and he had won back-to-back memorial different teams, which
- 1:02:35Speaker 6: is quite impressive to accomplish. So to get those guys
- 1:02:39Speaker 6: to pedigree in that background knowledge, it really buy-in that
- 1:02:44Speaker 6: the players and that the message is the same. One
- 1:02:46Speaker 6: of the most impressive Roger Kelly is they go in
- 1:02:49Speaker 6: with skill and they know they have skill, And what
- 1:02:51Speaker 6: we do early in there is let's teach you how
- 1:02:54Speaker 6: to play the game. We want you to play defensive-minded hockey.
- 1:02:57Speaker 6: We want you to play a full 200-foot game. When
- 1:03:00Speaker 6: you're 19, the offense is going to come. But when
- 1:03:02Speaker 6: you're 16, if you want to play in this lineup,
- 1:03:04Speaker 6: you're going to be on the third and fourth line,
- 1:03:06Speaker 6: and you're going to have to kill penalties. You're going
- 1:03:08Speaker 6: to have to work in the defensive zone. And I
- 1:03:10Speaker 6: think that was one of the things that was really
- 1:03:13Speaker 6: impressive about Owen Griff's season was despite the fact he
- 1:03:17Speaker 6: only had five or six penalties, one goal regular season.
- 1:03:20Speaker 6: He turned himself into one of the best defensive centermen
- 1:03:23Speaker 6: in the Ontario Hockey League that year. He really pops
- 1:03:27Speaker 6: off in his 17-year-old incredible playoff run that year. He
- 1:03:31Speaker 6: was a point per game last year on a team
- 1:03:33Speaker 6: who really produced off.
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: We know what he could do.
- 1:03:36Speaker 6: We saw that when he was playing U16, but his
- 1:03:39Speaker 6: buying being a defensive-minded at 16 years old really paid.
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: Dividends in his defense.
- 1:03:45Speaker 6: To be a 100-foot player by the time he was
- 1:03:48Speaker 6: in last year for Oshawa and now for Guelph. You know,
- 1:03:51Speaker 6: he's one of the guys you don't want to go against,
- 1:03:53Speaker 6: and Roebrick obviously has that incredible shot. But with Owen
- 1:03:57Speaker 6: Griffin being as good as he is offensively and defensively,
- 1:04:01Speaker 6: He's just a mirror for other teams. And, you know,
- 1:04:03Speaker 6: it's a conversation with Tom Ritchie when he was in there.
- 1:04:07Speaker 6: He said he didn't like the mindset of only focusing
- 1:04:10Speaker 6: on getting points. He's like, it doesn't make sense that
- 1:04:12Speaker 6: that's guys only mind. Junior learning to play the back end.
- 1:04:16Speaker 6: How is that you go to the NACU league? And
- 1:04:18Speaker 6: obviously we Cal play now a full season for the
- 1:04:20Speaker 6: Islanders and he's back with them. And obviously he had
- 1:04:23Speaker 6: all that talent previously. But his ability to play defensively
- 1:04:27Speaker 6: was what helped him get to the next level. And
- 1:04:30Speaker 6: something that helped Beckett Seneca get into the NHL last season,
- 1:04:34Speaker 6: his ability to learn 16 and you go back early
- 1:04:37Speaker 6: games when he was 16 and his wasn't all there.
- 1:04:40Speaker 2: But then by the end.
- 1:04:41Speaker 6: Of his 18, he turned into a completely different player. Now,
- 1:04:45Speaker 6: a lot of that goes from five foot ten to
- 1:04:47Speaker 6: six foot four. in the space years and about 50
- 1:04:50Speaker 6: pounds in that stretch as well but his ability to
- 1:04:53Speaker 6: play at both ends of the ice be on the
- 1:04:55Speaker 6: penalty and we've even seen that with anaheim they're not
- 1:04:58Speaker 6: afraid to throw penalty kill and be a threat because
- 1:05:01Speaker 6: he can guys by himself that is what impressive when
- 1:05:05Speaker 6: you look at the track record of front office for
- 1:05:08Speaker 6: oshawa is is the guy for the nhl perennially They
- 1:05:13Speaker 6: are producers, but at least some of the best.
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 1:05:16Speaker 3: And Jack, I always enjoy our conversations and the Bulldogs
- 1:05:19Speaker 3: and generals get together the six to eight times a year.
- 1:05:22Speaker 3: It's always a blast to be able to chat with you.
- 1:05:23Speaker 3: My last one for you. Obviously, a lot of people
- 1:05:26Speaker 3: look up to your career and the respect I have
- 1:05:28Speaker 3: for you in general. It's to the roof. I really
- 1:05:31Speaker 3: respect what you do. I enjoy your calls. It's always
- 1:05:34Speaker 3: a treat to be able to have a conversation with
- 1:05:35Speaker 3: you and the Bulldogs and generals square off. But what's
- 1:05:38Speaker 3: your biggest piece of advice that you would give a
- 1:05:40Speaker 3: young broadcaster?
- 1:05:41Speaker 2: That's good.
- 1:05:41Speaker 6: I think I would just tell them, you know, like
- 1:05:45Speaker 6: if you want to do it, whether it is if
- 1:05:47Speaker 6: you want a reporter, if you want to do podcasting,
- 1:05:50Speaker 6: if you want to do whatever the case is, just
- 1:05:53Speaker 6: try and find your rep somewhere. And there's always been
- 1:05:56Speaker 6: four words to speak from a play-by-play sense. Colleges and
- 1:05:59Speaker 6: youths have a time, whether it's hockey, basketball, volleyball, football,
- 1:06:03Speaker 6: that go on every season. They want all those streamed
- 1:06:06Speaker 6: and on their service. So the opera tall games are there.
- 1:06:11Speaker 6: And you just have to go out and knock on
- 1:06:13Speaker 6: doors to try and find those opportunities. If it's through podcasting,
- 1:06:17Speaker 6: you know, start a podcast. Just get your reps on air.
- 1:06:20Speaker 6: And the only way you can get better at this
- 1:06:23Speaker 6: is by doing it time and time again. And that's
- 1:06:26Speaker 6: the one thing I've noticed is I look back at
- 1:06:29Speaker 6: when I first called the game in 2016, a women's
- 1:06:32Speaker 6: hockey game for Laurier when I went there, to now,
- 1:06:36Speaker 6: I completely changed as a play-by-play broad. I approached to it,
- 1:06:39Speaker 6: my preparation for it. has completely changed. My sound changed.
- 1:06:44Speaker 6: All of it has changed over time and it's constantly reevaluating.
- 1:06:48Speaker 6: One thing I would say is give yourself critique. So
- 1:06:51Speaker 6: go listen and watch the games that you've done and
- 1:06:55Speaker 6: try and remove from like, I'm great.
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: I sound awesome. It's cool to do this.
- 1:06:59Speaker 6: And you know, analyze and do it like you're playing
- 1:07:02Speaker 6: watching film is how can I get better at this
- 1:07:05Speaker 6: and and then part of that is is you know
- 1:07:08Speaker 6: what they do do it and put on a hockey
- 1:07:10Speaker 6: game or a football game or a football game and what.
- 1:07:12Speaker 2: Does that guy do so effectively that.
- 1:07:15Speaker 6: Got him in that role and um thing I always
- 1:07:17Speaker 6: do I I watch a ton of sports in my
- 1:07:20Speaker 6: office I write down notes about like that you know, I, I,
- 1:07:25Speaker 6: I didn't love that he tried and it just get
- 1:07:27Speaker 6: flowed right for, um, you know, maybe not my style
- 1:07:30Speaker 6: kind of thing. And, um, just always self critiquing and
- 1:07:33Speaker 6: then do the preparation. That's, that's the biggest thing, uh,
- 1:07:37Speaker 6: for me is the more you prepare, you have, um,
- 1:07:40Speaker 6: the more ready you are for any type of, it's
- 1:07:43Speaker 6: going to help you out, uh, at any given because
- 1:07:46Speaker 6: really cool to go on the air. But if all
- 1:07:48Speaker 6: you're given is in total stats for a season, um,
- 1:07:51Speaker 6: you know, those quiet, maybe, um, as easy to fill
- 1:07:54Speaker 6: if you don't put in the hours and that goes
- 1:07:56Speaker 6: in calling a game and thing that important. If you work,
- 1:07:59Speaker 6: it's going to make your, your podcast sound even better.
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: Jack Moore, the Oshawa generals voice on the Oshawa generals
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: audio broadcast. Jack really appreciate the time tonight. Obviously again,
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: you got to get some rest. You've been on a
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: quite the gauntlet the last two weeks with football and,
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: and calling the generals on a three and three, and then,
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: you know, a busy weekend this weekend as well. So
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: we appreciate the time. I'm a frequent listener to your
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: broadcast and the generals generals audio broadcast. So I'm a
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: big fan. Obviously Colin's a big fan, even though the
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: generals and Bulldogs go to go to war eight times
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: a year, but it's.
- 1:08:30Speaker 3: Always great conversation.
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: It's all in good love. It's all in, in, in,
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: in good spirits. But again, we're, we're, we respect you
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: a lot and just really appreciate you taking the time tonight.
- 1:08:40Speaker 6: You guys haven't the way it went last year, the
- 1:08:42Speaker 6: first game, this much of a, of a fight from us. So,
- 1:08:46Speaker 6: I can turn that around, but always look forward to
- 1:08:48Speaker 6: seeing you guys around at the ranks. It's always a bet.
- 1:08:50Speaker 6: So anytime I can help out, I'm happy. I love
- 1:08:53Speaker 6: the podcast. Love what you guys are doing. I just
- 1:08:56Speaker 6: love the fact OHL hockey on the regular and I'm happy.
- 1:09:00Speaker 6: to show up as often as I can because you
- 1:09:01Speaker 6: guys do a really great job and put out a
- 1:09:04Speaker 6: lot of great info for people to listen to and
- 1:09:07Speaker 6: to talk about, because it's important for this league that.
- 1:09:11Speaker 6: that people just keep talking about it. People keep showing
- 1:09:13Speaker 6: up to the games, tuning in on TV. And so
- 1:09:16Speaker 6: there's local radio guests keep supporting it and this league up.
- 1:09:19Speaker 6: Cause we have a truly here in Ontario.
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: Absolutely. Jack, we'll talk to you soon. Go bills and
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: look forward to having you on later in the year.
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: Hopefully the generals continue to surprise some teams later in
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: the year.
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: Always great to guys. Thank you. So I am, I
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: am happy if he does well.
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: Thanks man. Appreciate that. There was Jack Moore, the, obviously
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: great radio voice of the Oshawa generals and the Oshawa
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: generals audio broadcast again, apologies there a little bit of,
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: of some audio there with Jack, but always great insight
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: from him. And again, every game home and away, you
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: can listen on the generals audio broadcast and obviously, you know,
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: a storied franchise and for Jack to be able to,
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: to have the call for the Oshawa generals. I know,
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: as he mentioned there, it's a surreal moment for him.
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: And it's always great insight, especially for a team that has,
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: you know, some, some pretty good young players and potentially more,
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: more optimism than maybe some people thought going into the
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: year coming off of what was, you know, rebuilding year
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: last year.
- 1:10:14Speaker 3: Yeah, no, absolutely. I mean, for the generals in the
- 1:10:17Speaker 3: expectations every year in that franchise, right? Like it's always,
- 1:10:21Speaker 3: it's always high. It's always an expectation to develop in
- 1:10:24Speaker 3: certain roles. And I mean, like I say, Bulldogs and
- 1:10:26Speaker 3: generals play each other all the time, right? So there's
- 1:10:28Speaker 3: a lot of respect that I have for the generals.
- 1:10:30Speaker 3: It's always, it's always a tight game. It's all, he's
- 1:10:33Speaker 3: a tough one. It's always physical and, And I mean,
- 1:10:35Speaker 3: I have a lot of respect for the generals organization,
- 1:10:37Speaker 3: what Rocco Tulio was built there in that organization and
- 1:10:40Speaker 3: the career that Jack has built is incredible. I mean,
- 1:10:42Speaker 3: he's such a good person. Like I say, it's always
- 1:10:46Speaker 3: great to have a conversation with Jack Moore. It's, it's
- 1:10:48Speaker 3: always good. He's a beauty.
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely. Gave us a lot of good insight there
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: on that generals team on and off the ice. So Colin,
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: we got a few minutes left here. Let's go through
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: our performers of the week and then we'll give our
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: stick taps before we, get the Friday night faceoff prediction
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: and wrap it up for the week. So let's start
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: off here with the player of the week. And that
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: comes from your neck of the woods in Brantford, Jason Moussa,
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: three games played, four goals to two assists, six points
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: plus two on the week or sorry, he's the rookie
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: of the week, excuse me, but great stuff there for
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: Jason Moussa. You know, what can you tell us about
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: this young man? Cause he's a, he's turned a lot
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: of heads so far.
- 1:11:28Speaker 3: He's a lot of, uh, Adam, but not Nick Lardis mix.
- 1:11:31Speaker 3: I know that's a lot of pressure, but you look
- 1:11:32Speaker 3: at the goals for already this year, the pace he's on,
- 1:11:35Speaker 3: I know it's early. He's on the pay. He's on
- 1:11:37Speaker 3: the Nick Lardis pace, but not 70 goals. But I mean,
- 1:11:39Speaker 3: he's on a pace to score 40 goals easily this year.
- 1:11:42Speaker 3: And I mean, what Jason does, I mean, he contributes
- 1:11:45Speaker 3: a lot to the offense. You look at him the
- 1:11:46Speaker 3: way he goes to the net with a stick on
- 1:11:48Speaker 3: the ice. It's very similar to what Nick Lardis brought
- 1:11:50Speaker 3: to the table and the, the way he is with
- 1:11:52Speaker 3: the puck. He's a lot like Adam, but not, it's
- 1:11:54Speaker 3: a little bit of both. Um, it's very, it's very
- 1:11:57Speaker 3: impressive to watch. I highly, I highly suggest you watch
- 1:12:00Speaker 3: Jason Musa play this year in person means, wow, he
- 1:12:03Speaker 3: plays a lot of energy. He brings it.
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: Was he the player of the week this week? And they, yeah,
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: he was okay. It says, it says rookie of the
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: week on the graphics. So it was confusing me, but
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: I think he, he was named player of the week.
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: So that's why it messed me up there. But again,
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: it happens, but yeah. So Jason Musa from the, Brantford
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: Bulldogs player of the week, you know, just, uh, I
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: think he's near the top or at the top of the, uh,
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: the OHL point standings as well. So a really good
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: start for him. And one of the reasons Brantford sitting
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: atop the Eastern conference right now. So a really great
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: week from him. And you can hear more about him, uh,
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: with Colin on the dog cast. So moving on here,
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: we've got goaltender of the week and it comes from
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: the Ottawa 67s calling a guy that you were really
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: high on going into the year, looking to take a
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: big step and get out of the shadow, obviously of
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: a goaltender of the year. Ryder Federoff, who graduated on
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: to play at the NCAA level. Jaden Nelson, two games played, 2-0, 1.00
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: goals against average, and 963 save percentage, 52 saves. Ottawa
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: and Dave Cameron got back in the win column this week, and,
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: you know, what we would typically expect from the Ottawa 67s,
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: but really good opportunity for Jaden Nelson, and he took
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: advantage of it this week.
- 1:13:10Speaker 3: Yeah, no, I mean, he's a veteran goaltender now, right?
- 1:13:13Speaker 3: Ryder Federoff, days are over, and I mean, now you're
- 1:13:15Speaker 3: going to be relied upon for some big wins in net, right?
- 1:13:18Speaker 3: You got to perform well If you're Jaden Nelson, he
- 1:13:20Speaker 3: definitely did that this week, right? 2-0. Look at the
- 1:13:22Speaker 3: goals against. Look at the save percentage this week. 52
- 1:13:24Speaker 3: saves in the two games. Definitely well-deserving for your goal
- 1:13:27Speaker 3: turn of the week this week.
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: In the OHL.
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: Absolutely. And we'll move on here to the rookie of
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: the week, and that comes from the Windsor Spitfires, Bogdan Jakoszewski.
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: Three games played, three goals, one assist, plus four on
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: the week for Windsor Spitfires team. Good to see for him, obviously,
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: as I believe an import player. So good to see
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: for the Windsor Spitfires, because obviously, you know, coming off
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: of the run they had last year, didn't go necessarily
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: the way they wanted to losing in the West final.
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: But they still have some some good players on that team.
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: And obviously they're going to have to sort of replenish
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: the young talent there. And they got a good one here.
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: Yeah, no, they did. Absolutely.
- 1:14:09Speaker 3: I mean, for Windsor, it's about being patient.
- 1:14:10Speaker 4: Right.
- 1:14:11Speaker 3: And continuing this new wave. they definitely got that right
- 1:14:14Speaker 3: now and you got to see who develops in their opportunities.
- 1:14:17Speaker 3: And for right now for, uh, yeah, I mean, he
- 1:14:20Speaker 3: definitely has performed well in those new opportunities for him.
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely. First round pick in the import draft by Windsor. So, uh,
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: comes over, uh, from, uh, obviously from overseas and, and
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: playing in his first season of, uh, North American hockey.
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: Good to see there. Good start for him, uh, in
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: his first season there as a 2000 and, nine born players.
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: So look for him to continue to be a player
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: for Windsor if they want to compete in that West division.
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: So Colin, let's, let's give our stick taps of the
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: week as always are brought to you by butt ends,
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: hockey stick grips, specific stick designed to replace traditional cloth tape.
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: Check them out at butt ends with a Zed.com or
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: use our referral code, but ends.com slash discount slash armchair
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: GM to get 10% off your order. As far as
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: our part of our community engineer for greatness and performance buttons,
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: the number one grip in hockey, Colin, I think something
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: happened in the football game, but I'm trying not to
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: pay attention to it right now. Who is your stick
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: tap of the week going to this week?
- 1:15:19Speaker 3: He's on Robinson, 59 yarder, Brandon seven, nothing Falcons.
- 1:15:22Speaker 2: Nice.
- 1:15:23Speaker 3: I've intact to Chanko, goaltender, Sarnia sting, shut out Sunday
- 1:15:28Speaker 3: night against the Oswald generals. I think honestly, for the
- 1:15:33Speaker 3: Sarnia sting to be successfully gaining goaltender and to see
- 1:15:36Speaker 3: Ivan come out and have a performance like that. He's
- 1:15:38Speaker 3: your import player. Draft pick, fifth-round pick from the Utah Mammoth.
- 1:15:42Speaker 3: I mean, it's a big opportunity this year. And I
- 1:15:45Speaker 3: think for Ivan to have that chance to be the
- 1:15:47Speaker 3: guy and to step up and perform like that, like
- 1:15:49Speaker 3: he did on Sunday night, need those performances to be
- 1:15:52Speaker 3: a playoff team. So the Sting goaltending got to go hand-in-hand.
- 1:15:56Speaker 3: They had that last time they made the playoffs with
- 1:15:58Speaker 3: Benjamin Goudreau. Ivan, my stick tap of the week brought
- 1:16:04Speaker 3: to you by Butt Ends. Shutout Sunday night.
- 1:16:07Speaker 2: That's huge.
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: And the Sarnia Sting, Colin, we both can give them
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: one as well.
- 1:16:11Speaker 3: I'll be there in a month. I'll be there in
- 1:16:13Speaker 3: a month.
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: The 6th.
- 1:16:15Speaker 3: Literally, the 6th. So, yeah, a month.
- 1:16:18Speaker 2: November 6th.
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: My stick tap of the week is going– and I
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: had to ask Brad Cochamiglio, obviously a great beat writer
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: up in the Sioux, about the pronunciation. I want to
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: make sure I got the young man's name right. So,
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: it is Ryan Kaczynski. Ryan Kaczynski is my stick tap
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: of the week. You can see there, you know, a
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: hat trick performance, a goal. He's up upwards of eight
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: goals on the season, I believe, for the Sioux Greyhounds.
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: And one of the reasons why they are where they are,
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: he's a first round pick of the Sioux Greyhounds in 2025.
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: He's a New York native, 2009 year born player, winger there.
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: And he's off to a great start for the Sioux Greyhounds.
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: So he's going to be my stick tap of the
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: week because I think he's deserving of it. you know,
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: it continues to be an offensive catalyst there for the
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: Sioux Greyhounds. So I had to pick somebody from Sioux
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: because they're sitting atop the Western Conference right now, Colin.
- 1:17:16Speaker 3: No, absolutely. I mean, the Sioux Greyhounds, they're kind of
- 1:17:18Speaker 3: falling under the radar for their start, right? You're talking
- 1:17:21Speaker 3: about the big three, the last undefeated teams, but then
- 1:17:23Speaker 3: you look at the Sioux Greyhounds, you're right there leading
- 1:17:26Speaker 3: the Western Conference.
- 1:17:27Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: So you can see the player standings for the top
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: point getters in the Ontario Hockey League there. Aiden Kelly,
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: you know, Jason Moussa, you know them well. Colin Brady-Wastland's
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: up there. Dima Zilkin. But in goals, you know, Kaczynski
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: is obviously up there as well. So I wanted to
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: give him a shout-out with his seven goals so far
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: through the first three weeks. And then the Sioux Greyhounds
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: coming up with some big performances so far. We saw
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: Noah Laus on opening night with the hat trick and
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: obviously now with Kaczynski. So great stuff to see there.
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: And before we wrap up, we're going to do our
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: Friday night face-off preview, Colin. We got to get back
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: in the win column this week. The Peterborough Peets cooked
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: us last week, and now I'm down to one and
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: two on the season. Got to get back in the
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: win column here. So this week's Friday night face-off is
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: a matchup between the Owen Sound Attack and the Guelph
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: Storm in a Midwest Division Showdown. Owen Sound traveling to
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: Guelph to face the Mallrats. Colin, what are you thinking
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: from this matchup? Do you think we have to really
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: look too hard on this one?
- 1:18:32Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, I know you got your boys in Guelph.
- 1:18:34Speaker 3: You got your guys in Guelph. Ryerson Leaners coming off
- 1:18:38Speaker 3: of a shutout Sunday against his former team in Brantford.
- 1:18:41Speaker 3: There's going to be a lot of momentum for the
- 1:18:43Speaker 3: Owen Sound Attack coming into this game. If there's a
- 1:18:44Speaker 3: time to pick the Owen Sound Attack, you would think, hey,
- 1:18:47Speaker 3: we're going to pick the Owen Sound Attack coming off
- 1:18:49Speaker 3: a shutout. Are they back in the wind? They're back
- 1:18:51Speaker 3: in the wind column, but they're not going to beat
- 1:18:54Speaker 3: the Guelph storm. Guelph storm. They win the game. They
- 1:18:58Speaker 3: continue this hot streak. And I don't think we overlook it. Brandon,
- 1:19:01Speaker 3: you got your boys there in Guelph, Zada, Robrick. They,
- 1:19:05Speaker 3: they both get some points in the game. They win
- 1:19:07Speaker 3: the game. They know BC's got the pick. He's got
- 1:19:10Speaker 3: his boys back. Gwalt Storm, they win the game. We're
- 1:19:15Speaker 3: not overlooking it. We're not overlooking it.
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: Your Red Tilson prediction in Owen Griffin, too.
- 1:19:21Speaker 3: Yeah, I know. I was going to mention that to Jack.
- 1:19:24Speaker 3: All those times he was winning face-offs against the Bulldogs,
- 1:19:27Speaker 3: they got to watch him pretty good. So it's pretty
- 1:19:30Speaker 3: successful to see it's an automatic pick for me and
- 1:19:32Speaker 3: Owen Griffin. His development has been incredible in the OHL.
- 1:19:36Speaker 3: He's been amazing to watch.
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: Yeah, and we obviously saw the Guelph Storm go through
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: a losing streak at the beginning of the year because
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: they had upwards of 13 players out of the lineup
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: that had NHL affiliation. And now, you know, they're really
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: humming on all cylinders here. Gone 4-0 since then. So
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: really good stretch for them. And as you mentioned, all
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: those guys that are back as catalysts, you know, Tyler
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: Hopkins had a good week as well. To mention the Roebricks,
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: the Zadas, the Owen Griffins, Vlad Drovecki. Um, and obviously
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: Ben Harabic and the net is doing great stuff there.
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: So Corey Stillman's got himself a squad, uh, and I'm
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: picking the Guelph storm, uh, no contest in this one, unfortunately,
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: and the own sound attack and use this as billboard material.
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: And I hope they do because, you know, maybe they
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: come up with a big upset here, kind of like,
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: you know, leanders with that nice performance against his old
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: Bulldogs team. But I just think I w I would
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: pick the Guelph storm against anybody right now in the
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: Ontario hockey league. And that's just kind of the way
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: it is. I know Sue and Brantford are on top
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: and the Sudbury wolves are undefeated, but technically the Guelph
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: storm are undefeated since having their squad, their full squad
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: available to them. So I'm going with the Guelph storm
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: all day long and hopefully get back to two and
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: two on the season because we were really disappointed last
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: week in that toss up between Peterborough and Kingston.
- 1:20:45Speaker 3: Yeah, no, it's, it's disappointing. You know, we started off
- 1:20:48Speaker 3: so hot with the hammer, the, with the hammer sagging
- 1:20:51Speaker 3: on had momentum going and nothing worse had momentum going
- 1:20:56Speaker 3: in the Pete's man. Thursday night with that performance they
- 1:21:00Speaker 3: had against Erie, and I'm thinking, maybe we got something here.
- 1:21:05Speaker 2: And then, whoo, the Oakland A's.
- 1:21:10Speaker 3: There's 50 feet of, you know what, and then there's
- 1:21:12Speaker 3: the A's.
- 1:21:13Speaker 2: That was my pick, so I apologize.
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: It was Matthew Kapowski's first game with the Peterborough Peets.
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: We forgot to mention that trade, but I mean, hopefully
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: he can kind of get things settled in because we
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: thought that's a good trade for Peterborough to be able
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: to get some goaltending, right? Because, you know, losing Easton
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: Rye ends up being a bigger loss than maybe even
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: they had expected.
- 1:21:32Speaker 3: Yeah, no, and a chance to play, right? Like you
- 1:21:34Speaker 3: get that chance to play, be the guy. It's the
- 1:21:36Speaker 3: first time he's going to have a chance to be
- 1:21:38Speaker 3: the guy in his OHL career. And I think that's
- 1:21:41Speaker 3: huge for him. I think it's huge for Matthew Kapowski.
- 1:21:43Speaker 3: He's an OHL caliber goaltender.
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: All right, Colin, we're going to wrap this up. But
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: before we go, since it's Thanksgiving next week, we're not
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: sure if we're going to be on a recording. If not,
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: we'll be back the following week, just given the holiday
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: Monday and things like that. But if we are not
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: back before, we won't be back before Thanksgiving. Colin, what's
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: your favorite, I guess, dish on Thanksgiving?
- 1:22:06Speaker 3: Desserts, pumpkin pie, automatic. Probably like main course. I got
- 1:22:14Speaker 3: to go stuffing. I love stuffing. It's so good. Like
- 1:22:18Speaker 3: if you can't tell by looking at me, you can
- 1:22:19Speaker 3: tell I love stuffing. Um, but I, uh, I love it. Um,
- 1:22:23Speaker 3: it's so good.
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: My dad's a stuffing guy. I'm not a big stuffing
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: guy myself. I'm more of a, a turnip and give
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: me the like wing and drumstick on the Turkey with
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: some gravy.
- 1:22:33Speaker 2: And I'm set.
- 1:22:34Speaker 3: Uh, Thanksgiving, uh, true docking.
- 1:22:38Speaker 2: Yep. Absolutely.
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: For those, uh, Americans out there with theirs being in November, but, uh, Yeah,
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: so that's going to be it, Colin. I mean, it's
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: a good start through three weeks, but Sudbury, we put
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: up a poll. I guess we forgot to get to that,
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: but the poll was saying that they weren't going to lose.
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: And can Brampton get in the win column?
- 1:22:57Speaker 3: Brampton's going to win. Brampton's going to win a game.
- 1:22:59Speaker 3: It might be this weekend, but Brampton's going to win
- 1:23:01Speaker 3: a game. Brampton looked really good on Friday night. Brampton
- 1:23:04Speaker 3: was a better team against the Bramford Bulldogs. I mean,
- 1:23:06Speaker 3: I thought the Bulldogs were going to lose their first
- 1:23:07Speaker 3: game of the year on Friday night against Brampton. Brampton
- 1:23:10Speaker 3: plays hard. They're going to be maybe it's similar to
- 1:23:14Speaker 3: last year, but they don't have the skill set, but
- 1:23:16Speaker 3: they work their butts off, Brandon. And I'm telling you,
- 1:23:19Speaker 3: they're going to be a team that's not going to
- 1:23:21Speaker 3: be this bad throughout the year. They're going to go
- 1:23:23Speaker 3: through a stretch right now, unfortunately, where results aren't going
- 1:23:26Speaker 3: their way, but they're going to go through a stretch
- 1:23:28Speaker 3: where results start to go their way a little bit.
- 1:23:31Speaker 3: I don't know where they are. I don't think they're
- 1:23:32Speaker 3: a top in the conference by any means, but I
- 1:23:35Speaker 3: think they are a team that's going to compete for the,
- 1:23:38Speaker 3: for the eighth spot in the Eastern conference this year,
- 1:23:41Speaker 3: where it's wide open. I really like the way Brampton plays.
- 1:23:45Speaker 3: And I truly believe with those picks they got for
- 1:23:47Speaker 3: Tanner Adams, if they could pick up, like I said
- 1:23:49Speaker 3: last week, if they could pick up players for the future,
- 1:23:52Speaker 3: like they can have term for this year and next
- 1:23:55Speaker 3: year and possibly the year after that, if they could
- 1:23:58Speaker 3: do that, watch this team go on a little bit
- 1:24:01Speaker 3: of a run because they work their butts off, man.
- 1:24:03Speaker 3: If they can find the right pieces to fit in
- 1:24:05Speaker 3: that James Richmond system, they could be a tough team
- 1:24:08Speaker 3: to beat in the Eastern Conference. Not a championship contender.
- 1:24:12Speaker 3: but they're not a last-place team if they can pick
- 1:24:16Speaker 3: up the right pieces for that James Richman system.
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: Yep, and they've got a few good years ahead of
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: them with that draft cupboard that's going to be overflowing
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: for a few seasons, and we'll see how James Richman
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: decides to use those to his advantage going forward. That's
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: going to be it for an extended episode of the
