- 0:18California attorney's adult foster son is in custody on suspicion of killing
- 0:23her in order to get control of her estate. This is a
- 0:26case of deadly greed, San Diego County District Attorney Summer Stefan said
- 0:31at a news conference last week. LA County family law attorney Nadine
- 0:35Jett, sixty four, was diagnosed with cancer in august twenty twenty three.
- 0:39When she learned she would have to undergo chemotherapy, one of her
- 0:43foster children, Cedric Von
- 0:44Ferdinand volunteered to move back into her Valley Center home. According to
- 0:49Stefan, it was not the caring act of a worried family member.
- 0:53Instead, she said it was the first of a series of calculated
- 0:56moves to take over Jett's finances. Not long after her treatment began,
- 1:01investigators say Von Ferdinand began telling friends and family that Jett prognosis
- 1:05was grim. He allegedly said his foster mother wanted to go to
- 1:09Mexico for a second opinion, and that when she died she wanted
- 1:12to be cremated without a funeral service. On January fourteenth, twenty twenty-four,
- 1:18Jett left a chemotherapy appointment and went home. Three days later, von
- 1:22Ferdinand allegedly called Jett's caretaker to tell them Jett had died. He
- 1:26also called Jett's doctors and cancelled all future appointments, Stefan said. When
- 1:31Jett's other family members spoke with Von Ferdinand, he allegedly told them
- 1:35Jett’s had died in Mexico. But of course they began to smell
- 1:39a rat, Stefan said. Loved ones apparently pressed for a death certificate,
- 1:44but none was produced. In june twenty twenty four several of Jett's
- 1:48foster children reported her missing. Not long after they also reported suspicious
- 1:53real estate transactions, including von Ferdinand's attempts to take possession of all
- 1:57three of Jett's residential properties, Stefan said. Investigators said the learned Von
- 2:03Ferdinand had paid someone to dig a six foot by six foot
- 2:06hole on the Valley Center property, and when they excavated the yard
- 2:09they located partially mummified remains in a makeshift grave. Stefan said Jett's
- 2:15body had been wrapped in a bed sheet, and an autopsy found
- 2:18she died of a massive overdose of fentanyl. Stefan said the chemical
- 2:22makeup of the fentanyl indicated it was illegal, not manufactured in a
- 2:27pharmaceutical setting. As the investigation continued, a search warrant was served at
- 2:32Von Ferdinand's Gardena home. There, Stefan said detectives found a marriage license
- 2:37for Jett and von Ferdinand issued in may twenty twenty for months
- 2:41after Jett is believed to have died. Stefan said a woman who
- 2:44is known to von Ferdinand impersonated Jett to help him obtain the
- 2:48license. On october twentieth, Von Ferdinand thirty four was arrested on suspicion
- 2:53of first degree murder, with two special circumstances of murder for financial
- 2:57gain and administering poison. He is also facing charges related to theft,
- 3:02forgery, and filing false documents. He is not eligible for bail as
- 3:06he awaits his next court hearing. This is one of the most
- 3:09despicable acts someone can commit against a mother figure who gave the
- 3:13best of herself to someone in need, Stefan said at Wednesday's press
- 3:17conference. Also present at the press conference were two of Jett's foster
- 3:22children, Tiffany and Bianca Lucci. The sisters are two of the four
- 3:26quadruplets that Jette took into her home when they were children. She
- 3:31was that mom we needed, Bianca Luci said. She gave us a
- 3:34fair chance at life.
