- 0:00Hello and welcome to another episode of five.
- 0:04You were my insurance. Damn it.
- 0:06You're the only person who's ever done that.
- 0:08Oh my God. I'm I noted the do the zoom
- 0:12notifies you. It's like, hey, this is being
- 0:15recorded. That's the first time I've ever
- 0:17heard that before. My bro, I'm not even gonna edit
- 0:21that out. I'm just going to leave it in to
- 0:23make you look bad. Do it.
- 0:27Absolutely brother. All right, I can make myself
- 0:31look bad. I'm pretty good at that.
- 0:34Donna, welcome to the Christian roof podcast.
- 0:41Today's guest is a fellow voice actor and voice over artist, mr.
- 0:44Jonathan crane, this has been in the works for some time.
- 0:47Welcome to the show. How you doing?
- 0:51I'm doing alright, brother. After I ruined your intro, it's
- 0:54good to hear the official intro now.
- 1:00No, we we set this up on like a while ago and you reached out to
- 1:06me, I know we've been kind of back and forth a little bit and
- 1:10when you finally reached out to me like, hey, you know, do you
- 1:12wanna, you know, step foot on the show?
- 1:13I was like, you know what? Sure, why not.
- 1:15Let's let's have a sit down and chat for a second.
- 1:18You know what's interesting about this actually is so for
- 1:22those who obviously one of you guys will notice me and
- 1:24Jonathan. Yeah, connected some time ago.
- 1:27Probably through ready? That's where most magical.
- 1:29Things happen. And yeah, we just got chatting,
- 1:32didn't we? And then we did a video call,
- 1:35and obviously, I learned a little bit about you as well,
- 1:37and then I sort of follow what you were doing online and kind
- 1:42of seemed like, a no-brainer to me, like, yeah, I should invite
- 1:44him on the show, would be a good conversation.
- 1:48It's always kind of nice to to interview, or have a discussion
- 1:52with, like a fellow actor because it's like, For anyone
- 1:56that's not aware like this is the career I'm pursuing and I
- 2:00don't know. I just find it interesting to
- 2:01see like how other people going about that and like, where I
- 2:06suppose. Because everyone has a different
- 2:09story. As far as the cow.
- 2:10They got into this how they were introduced to this excetera so I
- 2:14guess what I'd like to start with is like, what was your
- 2:17introduction to voice acting? Like where did it begin for you?
- 2:22What was interesting is it's like most kids, you sit here and
- 2:27you're watching, like, you know, your Saturday morning cartoons
- 2:29and you're hearing, you know, Sonic or in my case, you know,
- 2:34Goku everybody else. And you're hearing the voices of
- 2:37like child white, you know, Shawn Shamu.
- 2:40Chris a bit and you're hearing all these voices, but they're
- 2:43coming from the characters, right?
- 2:45And you're like, hey, that's that's awesome.
- 2:47That's the voice of this person. That's the voice for that
- 2:50person. And then when you start like
- 2:52looking into things, you're like, oh, there's an actual
- 2:56actor behind, you know, you start growing up and realizing
- 2:58the, you know, the characters aren't real, they're just
- 3:00cartoons and you maybe, hey, you know, I want to look at learning
- 3:07about these people and it's like, it became something
- 3:12different where I want it to sit here.
- 3:16And now do exactly what it is that they do, which is like, You
- 3:21hear some of these like long drawn-out speeches and stuff
- 3:24like that and it impacts so many people in so many different
- 3:28ways. And when you sit down and really
- 3:31start thinking about you like that's, that's acting like,
- 3:33that's what that is, that's hitting the core and soul of it.
- 3:36That's what I want to do. I was like, let's let's sit here
- 3:40and change somebody's world or perspective, even if it's just
- 3:43one person, I was like, that's kind of how I want to go about
- 3:46it. But do you know the people ask
- 3:49you, what, why don't you just be a regular?
- 3:51Actor. And I'm like, yeah, I'm not that
- 3:52pretty. I'm not.
- 3:54Okay, well, and we got the voice, you know, everyone's
- 3:58always says, oh, you know, you have a voice and it's a good
- 4:01voice. So, so I like most kids, you
- 4:03start off with like a little bullshit u.s. me, but can I am,
- 4:07I am allowed to curse like yes, we're fish.
- 4:10If you want man. Yeah, go for it Expressions.
- 4:14Well, I swear, I've heard you drank like a fish before, but,
- 4:20uh, but yeah. So you start off a little
- 4:25bullshit. Uh, me bike and, you know, you
- 4:29just start graduating there. Hopefully, you start graduating
- 4:31from there, you looking into, like, upgrading equipment,
- 4:33taking classes, and all this other stuff.
- 4:36We saw a couple of things that you said, oh, I'm not
- 4:38good-looking enough to do that. That's bullshit.
- 4:40Very handsome, man. Secondly, and this is what
- 4:44someone said to me years ago and I think Is very true, it's not
- 4:47about being good looking, it's about having a distinctive look
- 4:52or a look that can be molded one of the two.
- 4:57So to take someone from, okay, this is not for the acting
- 5:01sphere but you know, cou Kate Moss's the the model, right?
- 5:05Yeah. A lot of people have theorized
- 5:07that the reason why she's so successful in that particular
- 5:09Endeavor. Is because if you look at like
- 5:12all of the different modeling photos of her over the years,
- 5:14like it's a lots of different looks.
- 5:16She's she can be molded, like, clay, almost and kind of I
- 5:20suppose from an acting perspective.
- 5:21That's like really, really useful.
- 5:23You know, if you got an actor that can do that and I like a
- 5:25Johnny Depp, for example, but then other people obviously have
- 5:29like a particular look, that maybe lens well for Less a
- 5:34villain characters or maybe a particularly heroic look.
- 5:37So they get more, you know, heroic characters.
- 5:39But like the point is, it's a distinctive look.
- 5:43So don't discount yourself brother.
- 5:44I mean, a lot of the videos. Seen you do when you get really
- 5:47intense and you get into it or some of those promos shots you
- 5:50do, I'm like, this guy's got something you, you really have
- 5:56to. And you know, like that's that's
- 5:57the other thing. Somebody had brought it up to me
- 5:59one time, the like and like you see in the comment sections,
- 6:02like, some of my videos, bro. What's with the face or you
- 6:06really get into character? I'm like, well, yeah, dude,
- 6:09that's that's what acting is. You have to get into character,
- 6:14you know, if your characters angry bitch, Angry for
- 6:16characters. And we say, you know, it's
- 6:19that's the one thing that always stuck out in my mind.
- 6:23Somebody said here, like told me if you're going to act, don't
- 6:27pretend to act, actually act. You know, it's when you're doing
- 6:34voiceover work and it's the biggest misconception with a lot
- 6:37of things. Oh well you're a voice actor.
- 6:39You're not a real actor. That's not true.
- 6:44That's really not that true. You Have to get into your
- 6:48emotions, you have to get into your feelings, you have to be
- 6:51able to be vulnerable to the world and show the world exactly
- 6:56what it is that you have while acting.
- 6:59But at the same time, be able to disconnect that one.
- 7:01You're not doing a scene or you're not, you know, actually
- 7:06performing whatever may be. So this is something I'd love to
- 7:09kind of explore with you this theme of comparing and actors to
- 7:13voice actors. And how You know, there is,
- 7:17there is kind of various misconceptions in there.
- 7:20Are, I would say stigmas attached to it in a sense that,
- 7:25you know, when you see a regular actor, they obviously get the
- 7:29kind of a pause and respect they deserve.
- 7:31But like a lot of voice actors don't and a lot of voice actors.
- 7:35Particularly, some of the best voice.
- 7:37Oh my God. Hundreds of characters like some
- 7:40of your favorite fairy favorite characters.
- 7:42And to be honest look, you know, I could say as a fellow voice
- 7:45actor and correct me if I'm wrong here because I know you've
- 7:47been doing it a lot longer than me but I approach it the same
- 7:50way I do like regular acting where you have to put a lot of
- 7:53research in. As far as let's say like if it's
- 7:58an act accent, you have to kind of spend a long time master in
- 8:02that, like I've been spending a long time master in American
- 8:05accents and I'd say it's only really in the last year or so
- 8:07that I've actually made some real significant progress where
- 8:11it's actually, Point that I think is usable and doesn't
- 8:17sound like a guy trying to do an accent.
- 8:19You know I'm saying like there's there's a tip when point where
- 8:21it's like, okay now this is yeah this is actually what's what's
- 8:27so interesting about accents is and like I had a conversation
- 8:32about this with somebody else is okay.
- 8:35Yeah you can do it accent that that's cool.
- 8:37And that's fine. But you also have to remember.
- 8:39There's also Regional accents to where you're actually going.
- 8:43From and it's the same thing here in the United States, you
- 8:45know, so like I currently live in New York so I can see it
- 8:49hanging do like the whole Brooklyn action if it really
- 8:51wanted to, which is what typically a lot of people think
- 8:53when you sit here and say, all that, you know, put on the
- 8:55little New York action. But even then that's a little
- 8:57bit too thick, but it's the same way with you.
- 9:02Go down to the South, they sit here and sound a little bit
- 9:04more, relaxed, a little more slow down.
- 9:05Like, all right, like we're gonna sit here and do this, you
- 9:08know? And it depends on exactly where
- 9:11you are and where your points But it's not even so much about
- 9:15doing an accent. It's now, can you act in that
- 9:18accent? Can you make it believable?
- 9:20Right, that's the other point. So, yeah, you know, like my
- 9:25grandmother's from Ireland, right?
- 9:27So it's, you know, I can sit here and let you know, a little
- 9:29bit of the old Irish brogue, and that's seen a nice and fine and
- 9:32dandy. But the problem is, it can sit
- 9:34here and put on a convincing voice on a fake condensing act
- 9:37for it, right? And even then it's going to be
- 9:39one of your Irish listeners gonna be like brother was
- 9:41terrible. Don't ever do that again.
- 9:42Well, Does he see this? But there's a thing, there's an
- 9:45interesting thing because it's like there's the Irish American
- 9:48accent which is kind of like an amalgamation of the two.
- 9:52Best example. I can think of is if anyone's
- 9:54ever play it while, most of most of us played GTA4, there's a few
- 9:57characters in that that are of Irish descent or they emigrated
- 10:02from Ireland. And they and they've got that
- 10:04kind of nice. Kind of, I don't know, like a
- 10:06Pastiche like a mixture of both and it's interesting because
- 10:12that you And that a lot, you spend enough time in a country
- 10:14and you will begin to adopt elements of that or like it
- 10:19happened to me when I moved to Europe like my English accent
- 10:22was changing a little bit because I was spending so much
- 10:26time speaking. Another language that when I
- 10:28would speak English, obviously I would Tend to speak slower.
- 10:33Because if I spoke at the normal sort of rate that I would in
- 10:38English, it would be like a bit a little bit too much.
- 10:41You know, you kind of have to dial it back a little bit.
- 10:45It's interesting, I don't know but but hey, it's it is funny
- 10:51because like with me I'm very subset bubble.
- 10:54So I'll sit down and I'll talk to somebody and the longer I
- 10:58speak to somebody, the more I pick up other cadences.
- 11:01How they see a particular words. So then it's, when I sit here
- 11:05and be like, okay, cool, this is how this person speaks.
- 11:08And in order to, I guess cross that you know, lingua Franca,
- 11:13you know, the the language Bridge, all right.
- 11:15You start, you know, connecting with somebody else on a whole
- 11:19different level when you're able to speak their version or their
- 11:23way of language. That is a better way of saying
- 11:26it, I guess. Right now we're seeing a lot of
- 11:29major actors take on quite prominent voice acting roles.
- 11:33I think the best example of this in most recent years were
- 11:36probably be Bradley Cooper taking on.
- 11:40I can't for the life of me think of the name of the role but in
- 11:44Guardians of the Galaxy the raccoon character Rocket
- 11:47Raccoon. Right?
- 11:48Yeah. And I mean he's got the best gig
- 11:51ever. One of the biggest movies and
- 11:52the biggest franchises and he just he's in the booth the whole
- 11:54time. Lucky get.
- 11:56But anyway. I reckon that Rose like that are
- 12:01kind of Let's say showcasing voice acting in a bit in a much
- 12:08bigger way. But I guess my question to you,
- 12:11which I really want to explore with you is why do you think
- 12:14that voice actors don't get the same level of respect, that
- 12:18regular actors. Get, what is it?
- 12:21That makes people think like, oh, this is in no way
- 12:23comparable, it's not acting as you kind of outlined earlier.
- 12:27What's the difference? I can only guess, and it's
- 12:33moreover, maybe you're not in front of the camera the entire
- 12:38time and that you're lending your voice to a fern,
- 12:43essentially, an inanimate object or inanimate character at a
- 12:46figment of somebody else's imagination is really what it
- 12:48comes out to be, but you're not on screen, you're not, you know,
- 12:52performing the stunts or doing all this other stuff that a
- 12:56normal traditional actor would so you don't have that physical
- 13:00connection with the person that has that Voice.
- 13:04So like for instance Bradley Cooper, he's been in a lot of
- 13:07amazing movies. You know, hangover Limitless and
- 13:11it just goes on and on and on with him.
- 13:14But now when you're sitting here saying, oh well Bradley Cooper
- 13:18plays Rocket Raccoon during your hearing a voice from a
- 13:23character. But the only reason, you know,
- 13:25it's Bradley Cooper's because a his names in the credits and
- 13:28like, oh, I like how that guy sits there and sounds.
- 13:31Well, he's like, oh yeah, you know.
- 13:33Like, you know, it's, that's all that's Bradley Cooper.
- 13:36That's amazing. That's awesome.
- 13:38But you would never know if he was never on screen.
- 13:40You would never know who this guy was, until you know, did a
- 13:44little bit of a Google search. I said, interesting point, the
- 13:47never really thought about it like that, you're right.
- 13:50I guess, I guess maybe there's like a sense of like
- 13:54relatability maybe more. So if you can see a character on
- 13:57the screen and you can't like it's kind of like this, I
- 14:00suppose maybe not relatability connection.
- 14:03There's you as the audience viewer member.
- 14:07Yeah, I'm more of a connection not seeing that person.
- 14:10Yeah. That's I think that's what it
- 14:12is. It's the actual connection to
- 14:14the person interested Interested I just did I such a great that's
- 14:19just my no it's just my thought process.
- 14:22Anyway, he's so you're on the money because he's so true.
- 14:25Like yeah, every time I've looked up her that when I find
- 14:28out Mark, Hamill played The Joker years ago.
- 14:30I was like, oh wow. Like you know I do.
- 14:32Yeah. I mean, I know it's well known
- 14:34now but like back in the day I didn't know that.
- 14:36I was like, oh that's mad. The guy played Luke Skywalker or
- 14:38is also plays joker? Well yeah.
- 14:40What are you know what's funny about that, right?
- 14:42Is like, you looked in a while because, you know, again, that's
- 14:44the same thing I did when I was younger.
- 14:46Yeah, you look I'm up and I'm like, oh cool, Luke Skywalker,
- 14:49plays the Joker, and the Batman, and you're like, hold on a
- 14:52second. That's not Luke Skywalker.
- 14:53That's that's Mark, Hamill you rag, you know, you start making
- 14:57these connections with previous characters, they've already done
- 15:01and that's the craziest thing in the world.
- 15:04It's crazy as well as because I think controversial, but I think
- 15:08his performance is the joke was better than his performance is.
- 15:12Luke Skywalker. Even though, even though Luke
- 15:16Skywalker is an iconic character, I just feel like he
- 15:19really defined the Joker role. I don't know.
- 15:22Ice, just something about that. Robot the way he did.
- 15:26It was particularly special. Maybe it's just because I don't
- 15:28know. I'm a mark for, like, voice
- 15:30acting. I love it.
- 15:31I think it's amazing as an art form.
- 15:32It's It's funny because, like, certain people, and that's
- 15:38what's so magical about boys, that right, is that you sit
- 15:41here, and you take something from someone's imagination,
- 15:44that's never had a voice in its entire time before.
- 15:47Or it's only a voice that you hear when you're reading the
- 15:49comic or the book, whatever may be.
- 15:51And here comes an amazing voice actor and he adds that extra
- 15:56layer of depth to something that you never thought of before.
- 16:01And that's what's so special the able to sit here and act
- 16:04Actually bring to life. I character you've only read
- 16:07about a thought about our imagine about, that's what's
- 16:10amazing about and that's what makes you no good voice actors
- 16:14separate from you know the great ones or your regular voice
- 16:17actors from good voice actors, it's that extra level of
- 16:21understanding the, the character and actually making it real.
- 16:25That's what's so special about it and that's like how any any
- 16:30actor does, anything but you're not doing it with your body.
- 16:34Your You're just literally doing it with your voice.
- 16:36I couldn't agree more. This is why I always make sure
- 16:40to talk about how they are different dye.
- 16:44I consider them completely different things.
- 16:46I know it's acting they're both acting but it is.
- 16:49You approach it so differently. Like my process for on screen
- 16:52acting versus voice. Acting is a totally different.
- 16:56I could wage it. I wouldn't even, I couldn't even
- 17:00really say that like voice acting is easier because it's
- 17:02nice, just it requires different At things from you, what it
- 17:08really does. Because it's like, okay, cool.
- 17:11How do you sit here and portray that you're angry at somebody
- 17:15without an actual visual visual representation of being angry?
- 17:20Well, most people's thoughts process of, oh, well, let's just
- 17:23get angry. Well, what do people do in the
- 17:25get angle right? They raise their voice.
- 17:27They sit here and start screaming and all this other
- 17:28stuff and you're like let's let's draw that back a little
- 17:31bit, right? And let's pull back the
- 17:33curtains. Anger has made different levels,
- 17:36right? Are you, are you angry?
- 17:37Because you're embarrassed. Are you angry?
- 17:39Because you're sad? Are you angry?
- 17:41Because you're so Furious that you actually start crying.
- 17:44So now, are you crying and you're sad or are you crying?
- 17:47Because you're angry. There's different levels that
- 17:49you can't show from a voice actor that you have to be able
- 17:54to try and portray. There's a book.
- 17:56I was reading recently, which is by Michael Caine.
- 18:01It's called a fifth film in acting, or acting in film.
- 18:04It's basically taken from when he did a bunch of lectures.
- 18:08So the BBC and like the 80s, maybe, I don't know.
- 18:12But anyway, point is, they were taken and put into a book and
- 18:16the book has a lot of good lessons.
- 18:18I would say for actors. And when he's talking about his
- 18:24performance in educating Rita, he had to put like portray a
- 18:28drunk, right? Like a tragic drunk and he, he
- 18:33commented on this, which I found this really interesting.
- 18:35I just wanted to share in this conversation.
- 18:37Now, is this idea that like a lot of the time when you're told
- 18:40I could be angry, be pay. Someone who's drunk.
- 18:43Like a lot of people fail. They, you know, they all over
- 18:46the place, aren't they? They're just like throwing their
- 18:48arms up and stuff and sure people can be like that when
- 18:52they're drunk but actually a lot of the time when you're drunk,
- 18:57you're trying to hide it, you're trying to, you know, like oh
- 19:01yeah, I'm fine. Like I'm not actually drunk like
- 19:03a new You do know I'm saying that there's there's more like
- 19:06subtlety in it and if you play it like that, it's more
- 19:09convincing of, of course because, you know, most people
- 19:13and it's just like, you know, you sat here and said most
- 19:15people think, you know, like I'm not drunk, you're the one who's
- 19:19drunk, okay, tell me that that I'm John, right, but that's not
- 19:25sure. You have your fully functioning
- 19:26alcoholics, that should actually do an entire thing.
- 19:30Or you have the guy, you know, who's sitting here who's like,
- 19:33you know, drinking in the corner.
- 19:35And he's just like, yeah, yeah, yeah, no, I'm good.
- 19:39I'm good, bro. Yeah, I'm good, not everybody
- 19:42talks with like that, that slur slow down speech and like, hey
- 19:48buddy, what's going on? And it's everybody has a
- 19:53different way of doing things. I think what you reckon on the
- 19:56preconceived notions that, plus what you said before about,
- 20:00identifying what the source of the emotion.
- 20:04Is does it come from? And so it does it come from.
- 20:08Is the anger coming from a place of Injustice or annoyance or
- 20:12because? Yeah, you've got various
- 20:14different levels, haven't you like and also, you can be a
- 20:16little bit drunk or you can be really drunk or you could, you
- 20:19know, there's levels to this and as the entire thing, like, whoa,
- 20:24why are you drunk? Are you drunk?
- 20:25Because you're at a party? Are you drunk?
- 20:27Because, you know, you're at a pub or a bar or are you drunk?
- 20:31Because you're at home and you're sitting here drinking,
- 20:34Thinking the entire time because you're trying to forget
- 20:36something that happened, right? There's levels of being drunk,
- 20:41there's levels of emotions as levels of acting.
- 20:43And that's what a lot of people don't get or understand or can't
- 20:48really hit that nail on the head.
- 20:50There's different levels, two different things.
- 20:53I think it might have also been well, okay, nor one of his
- 20:56contemporaries that says, something like acting is more
- 21:00about reaction rather than Yeah, acting like I think a lot of
- 21:05people when they think of acting they think.
- 21:07Okay, I've got to pretend to do this thing and it's like it's
- 21:10true but actually acting is more real than you think you're
- 21:14drawing on. And again this depends on your
- 21:16school of thought whether it's add low or stanislavski or
- 21:21whatever your method is, at the end of the day, you're drawing
- 21:24from a place of realness, you're drawing from something and the
- 21:28differences between those. Yeah gun.
- 21:32And that's the key is, it's the ability to be more vulnerable
- 21:38with people and yourself. It's being able, being
- 21:42comfortable with showing people, or the world or whoever your
- 21:45audience, is you for, essentially, all purposes, being
- 21:50you or being this character being emotional, you know, and
- 21:54have all this stuff going on. And a lot of people are
- 21:57uncomfortable with that, you know, you have to be comfortable
- 22:00with being uncomfortable. That, that's Kind of the best
- 22:03way to explain it. We'll get into some of the stuff
- 22:06about your life outside of acting but I just want to kind
- 22:09of focus on this one element because I find this interesting.
- 22:12Like we some of the stuff in your life that you're a man
- 22:15who's seen some shit been through some shit.
- 22:18Let's put it that way and I have done a lot.
- 22:22Yeah, and I wonder when it comes to actin.
- 22:25Do you draw upon those experiences?
- 22:28Directly? Do you put yourself in a similar
- 22:32field? Like, what's your process for
- 22:33acting? Like because I imagine it's a
- 22:36dangerous road. If you're drawing on, for
- 22:39example, places of trauma experiences moments memories,
- 22:43that can be dangerous because you can lose yourself in them.
- 22:48Youyou actually really can. And that's the moment where
- 22:53you're Crossing that bridge or that barrier it's like okay
- 22:56cool. Or are you stepping into
- 22:59something that's like really traumatic for you?
- 23:01Or are you just hitting like that you have to ride that fine
- 23:06line of being able to call upon it but stop at the same time.
- 23:11So like I've been through a lot in life, you know, I'm a
- 23:15military member. Why was a military member?
- 23:18And, you know, I've been overseas and I've done a lot of
- 23:19things and you see a lot of different stuff is the best way
- 23:24to explain it. And sometimes you do draw upon
- 23:28the memories and that's when you're like, all right, cool,
- 23:32let's take a moment back. And lets, you know, pump the
- 23:37brakes stopped their record, and let's just chill for a second.
- 23:41Like, all right. Cool.
- 23:42I'm getting too much into their all the times.
- 23:46I honestly just let it ride. And doing this sometimes, like
- 23:51somebody wants in like one like videos, like, it's very
- 23:54cathartic, just letting out all that rage and anger, or screams
- 23:58or whatever. Maybe write, it is very
- 23:59cathartic, because you're essentially performing therapy
- 24:03on yourself, without realizing it by doing it through a, a
- 24:07character, right? And it's kind of interesting
- 24:10sometimes, you know, it's a very kind of dangerous line to kind
- 24:15of ride, but if you can do it, you can do it.
- 24:18It and if you can't, you can too.
- 24:20But I think that's the part where it separates a lot of
- 24:24people like, can you stop that at a moment's notice that?
- 24:27That's you know what I'm saying. Like even now it's like, you
- 24:32know, the one thing a lot of people can't do is like Cry On
- 24:36Demand, you know what I'm saying?
- 24:37So it's like all right. Cool I have to get in to that
- 24:41point where I can but then it's easier for me to do it.
- 24:45It's not so easy for all, you know, for others.
- 24:48And It's like okay well where is that coming from on that?
- 24:52I've done it a few times but yeah, I'm the same as you have
- 24:55to get myself in that headspace. But something, again, useful tip
- 24:59that I learned recently. Same as what we were saying
- 25:02before about the, you know, dining are down.
- 25:06Like if listen, if you're an actor and you're trying to make
- 25:09yourself cry, keep telling yourself.
- 25:11Don't cry, don't cry, don't cry. Don't don't cry for you.
- 25:15Reverse psychology because it that's exactly what you do a
- 25:17lot. The time when you when you're,
- 25:19when you're going to cry, you try.
- 25:20Hold it back, don't you? Don't get me wrong.
- 25:22I know a lot of people let it out as you should, but generally
- 25:26speaking you probably want to keep it in because it crying
- 25:30doesn't tend to happen at like a convenient time, does it?
- 25:33It happens. Whatever like something horrible
- 25:36has happened and you're like, oh well maybe something beautiful
- 25:38has happened and you just trying to keep it in the point is you
- 25:41generally speaking of trying to keep it in?
- 25:44So the remaining like my, my son just graduated for it.
- 25:48Right and graduation minded me of something.
- 25:50Well, thank you, thank you. And yeah, he's a good boy.
- 25:52He's doing everything he can. There was a woman now like a mom
- 25:57and she was like doing one of these things.
- 25:59She's like, you know, face, she's like, and I'm like, hey, I
- 26:04get it. She's she's not, she's crying or
- 26:08she's about to cry, but it's not because she's angry is because
- 26:11she's so elated. She's so happy that her child is
- 26:15graduating, right her cracked. Her child is Going to end, and
- 26:18she's about to just break down in tears.
- 26:21And I'm like, you gotta understand that.
- 26:24Where's that coming from? She's just so elated.
- 26:29So happy. So filled with pride and joy
- 26:31that her child is graduating. And you have to kind of like Get
- 26:36that's not all crying is because you said, you know what I'm
- 26:39saying? So it's like you have to
- 26:40understand. Where is this coming from?
- 26:43That's the best way to do it. Well, it's in my opinion anyway.
- 26:47See, you know what do I know? No, I agree.
- 26:49I think a lot of about acting is understanding emotions on a
- 26:52deeper level and understanding and what they mean.
- 26:56And that's why I asked you the question before about knowing
- 26:58where the, how to dial it back where the line is because this
- 27:01is tough, you know, sometimes like I was reading today, Tom
- 27:05Holland, who, obviously, famous for Spider-Man recently took on
- 27:10a role. I don't know what the role is,
- 27:11but it's some sort of Series where he's got like long hair
- 27:14and in a recent interview, Interviews and IO, who's his
- 27:20partner was basically saying that he was like hell to deal
- 27:23with for a year and instantly as I got cases, it's method acting.
- 27:27I suppose that he was, maybe like that, but it made me think
- 27:30about method acting in general and what it means for those
- 27:34around us. And there's, and there's
- 27:35different levels. I mean, you pick, you hear about
- 27:37someone like, Gary Oldman who can just switch it on and off
- 27:40and it's like, during scene. And then there's other people
- 27:43who live in the character say, like Ella, Heath Ledger Joker,
- 27:47where they just live It for like two weeks and everyone around
- 27:50them is like this personally. Yeah, really right.
- 27:55I think the most famous method actor is Daniel Day-Lewis,
- 28:00right? Because he will just he'll spend
- 28:04years researching a character getting it to like, when he did
- 28:09Abe Lincoln, right? He managed to find the only
- 28:13actual surviving voice recording of Abe Lincoln and he Told his
- 28:18voice after that. So it's like you have all these
- 28:22people and their ways of doing things.
- 28:25But, you know, you have your Shia LaBeouf.
- 28:27You have any Christian Bale's Daniel Day-Lewis, you know,
- 28:30Heath Ledger where they get full blown into character like even
- 28:34Christian Bale with The Machinist right?
- 28:36He got so bone rail thing. I think he ate like a apple and
- 28:41drink a cup of coffee a day or something.
- 28:42Like it down to fit any. She ranked him down.
- 28:46Oh, it was terrible. You look like absolutely you
- 28:49look like a walking skeleton. Yeah.
- 28:52But that's how he. That's, how he does his acting
- 28:55and some people agree with it. Some people don't depending on
- 28:59who you are and you know where your head space is for certain
- 29:02things. I gotta say, I must think I'm a
- 29:05monster. That's that's the direction I'm
- 29:08headed in because I really, I know it's bad.
- 29:11I just is I'm just being real with you.
- 29:13Like the way I see acting is it's at its best when it's It's
- 29:18as believable as possible but there's stuff that I see on
- 29:21screen sometimes and I'm just like, I don't believe you.
- 29:25I don't believe what you're trying to tell me, I don't
- 29:27believe you're this, you're suffering or you're in this and
- 29:31I feel like those actors that go that extra step and take those
- 29:35risks and really try to just put themselves into it as much as
- 29:38possible. That's why they get the
- 29:40accolades that's why they get the the Applause because they
- 29:45really went for it and I feel like it's a great thing.
- 29:48For life as well. If you want to get the best out
- 29:50of life in whatever you do in life, throw yourself fully in
- 29:54it. Be the best that you can be and
- 29:57you know, you get what you put in.
- 29:59You know, what is so funny about that?
- 30:02Is like, even with voice acting II, knew nothing about voice
- 30:09acting at all. Not a single damn thing.
- 30:12And I went, I have a habit of going down a rabbit hole
- 30:16whenever I want to sit here and find something, I have to find
- 30:19everything about this thing. So, I went down this whole year
- 30:23long rabbit hole about, you know, equipment and then acting
- 30:28classes And a lot of people don't get, I want to do it, it
- 30:33was a whole thing. I took Shakespeare like I've
- 30:35never took Shakespeare in my entire life before, right?
- 30:38But now I'm like, taking Shakespeare monologue classes
- 30:40and their improv classes and then acting classes and I'm just
- 30:45like like there's a whole art form to all of this and I just
- 30:50went down a whole rabbit hole for an entire year, fully
- 30:54submerged myself. And this thing And then it's
- 30:57like, all right. Cool.
- 30:59Now, what am I going to do with it?
- 31:01I'm not just sensible. You know what?
- 31:03Yeah, I just went off and I was like, you know what, I want to
- 31:09do videos, and I started doing the, the voice overs for the
- 31:12videos that I do now. And it kind of just took off all
- 31:18on its own and people started, you know, calling me and riding
- 31:22to me like hey this is this and that's that.
- 31:24I, you know, that was so amazing.
- 31:26You did that. And I'm just like, I just wanted
- 31:29to do it for fun. You know, it's impacting certain
- 31:32people in certain ways and it's just got totally out of control.
- 31:36I'm like, all right, cool. But I'm not I'm having a blast
- 31:40with it. That's the reality is why?
- 31:41It's always at its best when it's enjoyed by the Creator
- 31:46logo. When I look at like so my
- 31:47podcast or the patreon content, I do that twitch streams the
- 31:52even the acting I get to do from time to time.
- 31:55I enjoy it more. Than I ever did in the past, I
- 31:57think because my mindset is I want this to be the best that it
- 32:01can because I don't get to do this for a living.
- 32:03I don't get to do this all the time.
- 32:05So when I do it, I'm not going to sit and be like, oh, I wish
- 32:08this Scott somewhere. I'll have those feelings.
- 32:10Don't get me wrong, but I'll focus on making it the best that
- 32:14it can be because I love it. I love this.
- 32:17I live for this. If I got go and do that day job,
- 32:20fuck it. I'll do it.
- 32:21But like, while I'm here, I'm gonna give it my all.
- 32:24I'm going to make this the best thing.
- 32:25It can be. And put my heart and soul into
- 32:27it. And I think with acting like I
- 32:31said before, it's, that's when you get those best performances,
- 32:34because I think those people are more students at the craft.
- 32:38Like, I look at someone like Joaquin Phoenix, and I'm just
- 32:40like, there's, there's a guy who's trying to recapture
- 32:44Classic Cinema in an age, where it really feels like it's dying
- 32:47and many senses and don't get me wrong, but they were really
- 32:50Ambitions filmmaker still out there.
- 32:52There's people trying to do amazing things still but there's
- 32:54a lot of Justice. Yes yes That's the thing.
- 32:57A lot of the industry is just how many people you've got
- 33:01following you? What brat?
- 33:02You know I'm saying like what it's a marketing machine and
- 33:06it's a business. And but at the same time, there
- 33:09are still those people like Nolan still films in the classic
- 33:15way, which I think I agree with that.
- 33:16I think that's a better way to do it, then everything digital.
- 33:19But again, it's preference. No, it's so like amazing about
- 33:23that. Like, when you brought up
- 33:24Joaquin, Phoenix, and doing, Acting the classic style, right?
- 33:28Yeah, take it. The, the most recent movie that
- 33:31comes to mind is the Joker what he or is Todd Phillips, that
- 33:34directed it and it wasn't like the superhero movie.
- 33:39It wasn't like explosions and things like that.
- 33:42All happening, this is if you really break it down, it's a
- 33:46character study of what it of what a mental patient, looks
- 33:50like according to him, and his style and his way of doing
- 33:54things. And that was such Such a real
- 33:57subversive way, like is this really happening in his head or
- 34:00is this happening reality and being able to sit down?
- 34:04And you're asking yourself that question is, as The Watcher of
- 34:06the viewer of this cinema, this art form.
- 34:09And it's just like, that's acting man, like, that was so
- 34:13amazing to watch. And it's so hard to sit here and
- 34:18like, be able to really get into that Headway or headspace and
- 34:24make it so believable like is Really acting or he's just being
- 34:28himself like Robert Downey jr. With Iron Man, right?
- 34:32He's another one. Is he being himself or is he
- 34:36absolutely Robert Downey jr. Playing Robert.
- 34:38Downey jr. You know, I'm saying?
- 34:40He was pulling for that role. Even Stanley said himself.
- 34:45He's on, man, absolutely amazing.
- 34:47No, I don't think so. And it's like the best actors
- 35:03are the ones that have, you know, gone through like these
- 35:07traumatic events. Well, I mean in, okay, if you
- 35:10look at it real, like if you look at your life, As it exists.
- 35:15In this moment, you'll realize, if the things that you've been
- 35:20through whether or not you've had it tricky, everyone that
- 35:22you've had it difficult, to be honest, I started being better
- 35:25at the creative Endeavors in my life, when I actually like lived
- 35:29a little, you know, I used to suck like 10 years ago when I
- 35:34tried to like, write a song and it, you know, it was love that
- 35:36like, yeah, sure, I'd felt some things but I'm not really
- 35:39suffered. And then years later, I did
- 35:42suffer and then I'm like, ah, All right.
- 35:45Now, I got some shit to write about your luck.
- 35:47Hasn't been one night. Now, you've lived a little you.
- 35:49You cannot do that space, you know, right?
- 35:52Yeah. We switched becomes real.
- 35:55It's no more. Are you pretending?
- 35:57And that's where acting's at its best and I know, we're just, who
- 36:01was it? Was?
- 36:03I think it was Henry Cavill who like his parents are like, hey,
- 36:07you know, you've done a few things already that school in
- 36:11the time Downey, but you haven't bought anything for years.
- 36:13Years and years and I think it was like if I remember correctly
- 36:19and I could be wrong. He had told his parents like hey
- 36:22if I don't get the like this next gig I'm just gonna you
- 36:25know, go back to a normal 9 to 5 and of course the phone call
- 36:28that he wound up. You know sending to record a
- 36:31voice mail because he's playing in a World of Warcraft was you
- 36:34know, Zack Snyder for saying, hey you want to be Superman,
- 36:36right? So imagine getting old, you
- 36:39know. I heard about things you did you
- 36:41did you hear the story about that way?
- 36:42Apparently like he missed the Superman.
- 36:44Because he was too busy playing World of Warcraft.
- 36:48Yeah, one Legend. He's too busy game.
- 37:19You know, the guy I'm on about who was in John Krasinski, John
- 37:21Krasinski. Yeah.
- 37:22So The Story Goes purely that he was he'd moved up to New York.
- 37:27He was, you know, typical story, waiting tables, for months and
- 37:31months and months. He got the He promised his mum
- 37:38maybe that he'd be there for like two years or something and
- 37:41if he didn't find anything, I'm coming home.
- 37:43That's it. It's done.
- 37:45And it's like, the final months, it's not worked out and he calls
- 37:50his mom and he says, listen, it's not happening, going to
- 37:53head home. See you soon, right?
- 37:55And she's like, well, hang on, just stay another month and it's
- 38:00the classic why you do. What you do?
- 38:01What your mom tells you. So you're just like, all right,
- 38:03I'll stay another one, fine. Then that is when he got the
- 38:07office and even when they filmed the first season, they filmed
- 38:12the first season, he was still waiting tables and then boom,
- 38:15his life changed forever. So, and that's the craziest
- 38:19thing in the world is you're chasing after this dream and I
- 38:24guess the moment you stop chasing is when I guess it comes
- 38:29to you. I don't know man.
- 38:35You know? And I'm like but like if I don't
- 38:38try surely it won't happen at all.
- 38:40I can't just like sit and pray that it like.
- 38:44Oh, I hope. Yeah, exactly.
- 38:45Hollywood script is gets delivered on my door.
- 38:49Let's hope I get noticed one day, you know, doing absolutely
- 38:53nothing. These stories as well at
- 38:56classically like, oh, they just found him on the street or found
- 39:00her on the street. Picked her out of a crowd and
- 39:04She became a successful actress and you like that shit.
- 39:06Doesn't happen. You know what?
- 39:08You know where that shit hide me.
- 39:09Like, in the movies. I was the person I needed.
- 39:12It happens in the movies. Why?
- 39:14Because it's not real. It's fixed.
- 39:17It's not real doesn't happen. Bro.
- 39:20You have to try, you gotta shouldn't go out there.
- 39:23Make mistakes is the best I can tell you, you know?
- 39:28But yeah. It's absolutely crazy.
- 39:31Just going down this whole roller coaster of things.
- 39:34Because like in that with social media, social media started,
- 39:39initially as like you know, getting to know people, you
- 39:42know, Crossing out. Hey I got to know you, you got
- 39:45to know me and you follow your friends and follow people.
- 39:48You may like and then somehow like this changed into a whole
- 39:52marketing machine. I think you hit the nail on the
- 39:55head earlier. How many viewers do you get?
- 39:59How many followers do you have? And, you know, are you able to
- 40:03sit here? Here and now you're your own
- 40:06company. Essentially your own, your your
- 40:09you are the product, right? So you now have to sell yourself
- 40:13and getting yourself out there. And it's so crazy because I had
- 40:18to sit here and learn that aspect of it as much as anything
- 40:22else to because it's a marketing machine.
- 40:25And I even took marketing classes on how to sit here and
- 40:28do that. And I'm just like, yeah.
- 40:30But you're, you have to find that fine line like Keiko are
- 40:34you being you? Am I being Jonathan or am I
- 40:38being Jonathan crane the voice actor?
- 40:40The guy who screamed into a microphone and I like you, you
- 40:44gotta ride that line a little bit again, you know, do you
- 40:47wanna who are you /, trying to be or who you're pretending to
- 40:51be a? The best way considering say it
- 40:54because like on the internet you can be anybody, that's the
- 40:57issue. You can literally be anybody,
- 40:59anybody can be, who you could be, whoever you want to be
- 41:01reinvented you, some people do it all the time, you know?
- 41:03New master 69, you know what I'm saying?
- 41:06You can you know or you know JK Rowling Simmons, the third or
- 41:10whatever. Maybe it's you could be anybody,
- 41:14but can you be yourself? That's the craziest thing in the
- 41:18world. You can no longer just be you
- 41:19anymore. Do not write that.
- 41:24Yeah, he's in a world where you in a world, where you can be
- 41:29anyone, would you want to be? You really write?
- 41:35If you could be anybody, why would you be you?
- 41:44It's one of those things where it's like, You got I think you
- 41:48have to figure out what that looks like.
- 41:50One of the things I decided I want to start doing this.
- 41:53Was I chose to be authentic, I chose because I just the reason
- 41:57why is I didn't want to play a character.
- 41:59Ironically, I didn't want to like put on a Persona that I'd
- 42:04have to keep up and then I don't know if I ever got fans.
- 42:07For example, I wouldn't want to have to like, put on this
- 42:09Persona 24/7. Also, it's easier.
- 42:11If I just be me and then I, you know, if I'm not 100% then It's
- 42:17just me in a bad mood. It's not me not being this
- 42:20character. You know what the thing about
- 42:25like? So we're like even the stuff
- 42:27that I put out, right? I do favor one particular
- 42:30platform over the other. So, like I have a tech talk.
- 42:33I have an Instagram, I favored Instagram, just a little bit
- 42:38more because I get to, you know, show people the the
- 42:42behind-the-scenes looks at certain things, you know.
- 42:47For enemy going to the gym or me editing or whatever.
- 42:50Maybe that you just can't achieve on a platform like take
- 42:54time. And I like that little, you know
- 42:56interaction. Sometimes I've just behind the
- 42:59scenes, you getting to see me for who I am.
- 43:03Instead of just, you know, me doing a voiceover for something.
- 43:07You get to see me hanging out sometime.
- 43:09Like I'll post pictures of like my kids every once in a while
- 43:12but it'll be like in a story and like hitter goes away like 24
- 43:16hours or whatever it may be. Maybe, you know, because you
- 43:18don't know who's on the internet half the time.
- 43:20But yeah, I like that little behind the, you know, curtain
- 43:24Peak, you know who's Jonathan? Well week, when he goes to the
- 43:27gym everyday, use its aromatic to stuff.
- 43:30He sits down, he wakes up, you like, you know what I'm saying?
- 43:33Hangs out, it's being able to show just enough of you, but not
- 43:38enough for you. I it's weird to sit here and
- 43:41like, putting the words, I guess.
- 43:43No, I go you babe. Yeah.
- 43:45It's I say, Say this recent said this recently in a stream that,
- 43:49you know, you sometimes have to be careful about the power of
- 43:52social relationships thing and just make sure that you
- 43:55established like I'm here to entertain to perform you get, as
- 44:00you say, like a sneak big every once in awhile but that's it.
- 44:03Like, I'm, you draw the liar. I recently what I think, annoyed
- 44:10me, I put up a thing. For and June.
- 44:19It's a gay pride month in June for America for the states.
- 44:23Right? And, you know, I know I have a
- 44:25lot of people in the community. I know a lot of friends in the
- 44:28community, I have so much fun with them and I put up my
- 44:32support for, you know, I'm like, hey, you know, the, you know,
- 44:35it's gay pride month, the whole nine yards and somebody messaged
- 44:40me privately. I'm not going to say this person
- 44:41is like, hey, yo, that's that's not, that's not cool, man.
- 44:44I'm like, are you gay? Yeah, I didn't even bother
- 44:47answering that question. Yes.
- 44:50I'm just like how closed-minded could you be to something like
- 44:55that? Like, I put up my support, it
- 44:57doesn't matter if I am on my not, I put my support for
- 45:00something and you're like, oh, you know, well I may have lost
- 45:05potentially a fan because I support something, I don't give
- 45:09a fuck. Well, like, do it.
- 45:10I'll see you the fog later. That's I didn't even bother
- 45:13answering that question. I just let it flow left.
- 45:15It It in like my request mailbox or some nonsense like that.
- 45:19Another nice the best response. Dude, you know like like dude I
- 45:25don't know man, it's just so weird forgot what I was going on
- 45:28about things and stand your ground and yeah, sometimes
- 45:35people aren't going to like that.
- 45:36You know, sometimes people aren't going to support that
- 45:38like case in point. I posted some stuff about like
- 45:44men's mental health before, and I know there's a lot of dudes
- 45:47that are like. That's weak guy talks about his
- 45:50feelings, did it of the week and I might, well, listen, I think
- 45:55it's better. That a man took about his
- 45:57feelings and is still here alive on this planet, then you not
- 46:04doing it and wouldn't, you know what's that's so interesting
- 46:09that you said you and say that because coming from, Being in
- 46:13the military itself, right? There's a lot of, you know, keep
- 46:18that emotion and keep that kind of shit to yourself.
- 46:20You know what I'm saying? Like, nobody wants to hear all
- 46:22that stuff and even now I still kind of do it every once in a
- 46:26while. But, you know, like dude, as far
- 46:30as men's mental health, you you have to let it out because
- 46:34you're in a dated, an entire Society where men have to be
- 46:37strong and this, and this, why, I guess, you know, time to
- 46:39changing now, you know, you don't have to be so strong.
- 46:42Anymore. No, I know.
- 46:43I think, I think, I think the difference is not that like, you
- 46:47don't have to be strong anymore. I think the difference is that
- 46:50because think about it, generate the war generation for
- 46:53argument's sake, right? Those men desperately needed to
- 46:57be able to sit down and be able to talk about these things.
- 47:00But you know, whatever Society culture wouldn't allow for it.
- 47:04But they needed that they needed to like come to terms of
- 47:07everything because it's not a thing that human beings.
- 47:12Should have to go through. You know, when I first came home
- 47:17there's a phone call I don't I'm not going to say the name of the
- 47:21program but there's a phone call that you have to make when you
- 47:24first come home from like active War zones and stuff and the like
- 47:28it's bunch of questions, you know, your name your social, do
- 47:31you have nightmares? Do you drink a lot?
- 47:35Do you want to hurt yourself or you angry?
- 47:37Whatever may be and you have all these questions you have to
- 47:42Answered answered truthfully, will you, hopefully you answer
- 47:45truthfully or you're not just going to watch this person off
- 47:47the phone and it's like, all right, cool.
- 47:50Yeah, you know, I'm fine. I'm fine, I'm fine now, I don't
- 47:54drink, I don't get angry, it's not my deal.
- 47:57And then when you have to do that phone call, like three or
- 47:59four or five times you like alright cool.
- 48:01Like, yeah. Now I'm getting angry like
- 48:02everything to answer the same questions over and over and over
- 48:05again but it's like, here's an opportunity to help yourself get
- 48:11through something. NG and, you know, me being the
- 48:14typical, you know, guy at the time was yeah, no I don't need
- 48:18help. I'm good.
- 48:18I don't you talk about my feelings, you know, you know,
- 48:20nobody wants to hear about my feelings.
- 48:22Nobody wants to hear this, nobody wants to hear that.
- 48:24And now I'm in a art form where you have to show your feelings,
- 48:28which is your very weird, right? Yeah.
- 48:31The irony is not lost on me that.
- 48:34Yeah, exactly. It's very different man.
- 48:36It's very, very different. It's a be able to sit here and
- 48:41show I guess. Guess you're feeling this talk.
- 48:44If you have to talk, don't be afraid to talk.
- 48:46And I'll even though I hit up some of my friends, I don't
- 48:48like, hey, you know, you don't need to call me just to sit here
- 48:52and I could you need something or you want, something you need
- 48:54to call just to sit here and chat, you know, I don't worry
- 48:56about it, you know, chill out. I just think it's important for
- 49:00dudes to be able to do this. I don't think it makes you weak
- 49:03until I like that. I don't know.
- 49:07There's this Easter somehow different is and I will say
- 49:12this, I do understand for a lot of guys as well, like Society
- 49:16tells you one thing, but then what you receive is something
- 49:20very different. You didn't say it's like it's
- 49:25almost that weird thing of like yeah you can come out and talk
- 49:28about your feelings but it's just going to be used against
- 49:31you. And like my personal opinion is
- 49:33I don't give a fuck like I don't feel like any less of a man but
- 49:36I talk about my feelings cause As again, as I mentioned
- 49:39earlier, I've had friends who've taken their lives and stuff, and
- 49:44I feel like if they'd have been able to talk more and be more
- 49:49open, I feel like they probably still be here, you know?
- 49:51And that's the way I look at it. You know.
- 49:53I look at it more from that respect, you know, you and you
- 49:57would hope. So at least, you know, at least
- 49:59they had an ear to talk to or listen and in reality, you know.
- 50:04Yeah, I get every guy is different like I understand that
- 50:08Like you know I understand about myself like I'm more of a
- 50:11sensitive guy. I've always been like that but
- 50:13like maybe know every man is like that.
- 50:15I understand but you can still like chat with your mates crack
- 50:18a beer and be like, hey you good?
- 50:21I don't know. All right, let's just shoot the
- 50:24shit and then but they're bit like, you know, being able to
- 50:27just shoot the shit with your body's just as an example.
- 50:29Like, I feel like it's, you know, it's it's a good thing
- 50:33either. Even if like nothing comes with
- 50:34it, as far as like it doesn't Solve the problem or whatever.
- 50:38It's like, I don't, but that's how I understood the concept of
- 50:42empathy, right? Was that it was not about trying
- 50:45to solve the problem. It was just about, like, being
- 50:48able to relate to someone and be like, hey, I understand how that
- 50:51feels, I get it, like, you know, lonely that's even like a thing
- 50:56that I have a problem with myself right now, is being able
- 51:01to empathize with a lot of people.
- 51:05And the reason I say, Say that because and, you know, my
- 51:08missus, she's the one who told me, you know, stop to do
- 51:11something because I always compare myself to other people.
- 51:16Well, when I was down and when I was out, this is what I did,
- 51:20right? And or I hold myself to a higher
- 51:24standard and, you know, suck it up buttercup and the whole nine
- 51:27yards and the missus was like, well babe, you gotta understand.
- 51:31Not everybody is you not every you can't hold people to the
- 51:35same standards that you hold yourself.
- 51:37You know, people are very different, everyone's different,
- 51:40and she's like, that's not fair to the other person.
- 51:44Yeah. If it's, that makes sense or
- 51:47that's better for you, you know, and slowly.
- 51:50But surely, you know, like anything else, you know, the
- 51:52message is right. And also, it's like, alright,
- 51:55cool. So it's like you gotta sit down
- 51:58and sometimes just listen to somebody else.
- 52:02Just talk and it's not about them, looking for advice, it's
- 52:06live. Them.
- 52:07I just need an ear to listen. That's all it is.
- 52:10Yeah. Again he say you know, kind of
- 52:13empathize but Hey listen that's that's that's the whole point of
- 52:16empathy, right there. I mean you late, you literally
- 52:19laid it out right there, you know?
- 52:20Like I could be so many conversations.
- 52:22I've had where I felt like in my head like this pointless, all
- 52:26I'm doing is going, yeah, I'm so sorry that it's like that.
- 52:30Like a my how is this? Helping like if someone was
- 52:32there with me. But again like you said What
- 52:36works for you or what's right for you?
- 52:39Is different for that. Like, maybe for them having
- 52:41someone there being like, hey, it's gonna be all right, buddy,
- 52:44it's gonna be okay. Maybe that is what you need to
- 52:46hear. I don't know.
- 52:47I suppose it really depends. Sometimes people just need, you
- 52:50know let it out and just have somebody they can just talk to
- 52:54or talk at I guess, you know. Yeah, that's as I mentioned
- 53:01earlier I wanted to walk a little bit through sort of your
- 53:04life outside of Saying because I feel like, well, first of all,
- 53:09it's interesting and secondly, I feel like it does kind of shed
- 53:13an interesting light on on your office, your decision to then
- 53:17get into acting and then like using using what you've learned
- 53:20from life and channeling that into your performances.
- 53:23So let's just start with your military career.
- 53:26What would you say? We're your biggest kind of
- 53:28lessons and takeaways from your time in the military.
- 53:31Man, it's tough ones. Use the biggest lessons.
- 53:36The biggest thing I could sit here and say as far as that is,
- 53:41everybody's responsible for themself that.
- 53:45That's the that's something I learned on that aspect.
- 53:47You can try as much as possible to help somebody, but
- 53:51ultimately, it's up to them to sit here and want to change, or
- 53:57to want to do something like, it's ultimately up to you, and
- 54:01that's That's something I built. I feel very strongly about is
- 54:05this one? The biggest thing is I learned,
- 54:07it's either you do it or you don't you put yourself into it
- 54:12or you don't. And it's so interesting to learn
- 54:16that cuz it's no longer like everything is in your hands.
- 54:21If you could put it up to that, even the things that go through
- 54:24your hard times. Well, how are you going to get
- 54:27over that hard time, right? How are you going to get over
- 54:30that? That mistake that you made?
- 54:32Or that you know, unfortunate traumatizing and how are you
- 54:34going to get over to? How are you going to deal with
- 54:37it and move on from there? That's something I learned
- 54:40directly from, being in the military, is to be a stronger
- 54:45person, as yourself just be you, but be a stronger version of
- 54:50you. I guess, is the sit here and
- 54:52best way to sit here and say it while still, you know, being
- 54:56able to go about your business and go about your day, like,
- 55:00even when I first came home, you know, I found it so hard to deal
- 55:05with so many people just talking about so many things.
- 55:10Oh, you know, I had my test today and, you know, it was
- 55:13really hard, it was really stressful and I'm like, oh, is
- 55:17that a stressful as being in a war zone?
- 55:19No, my my job at, you know, knocking anybody but, you know,
- 55:29my job at McDonald's or whatever maybe.
- 55:31This rude. Customer.
- 55:33Oh, where you can shout out now? No, no.
- 55:35All right, it's terrible. Yeah, no, I found it so hard.
- 55:39Just to deal with people on a regular basis, and it's
- 55:44something I had to get through dealing with that.
- 55:46You know, I'm no longer like that.
- 55:48Now, I'm like, that sucks. Yeah, like I get it, you know,
- 55:51but being in the military is like so life-altering and
- 55:58changing, it makes you responsible.
- 56:01Table for you is the best way I can sit here and say, you know,
- 56:04you're no longer holding anybody else accountable for, you know
- 56:09your own actions. It's you you're responsible for.
- 56:12You is the best way I can sit here and say, you want to go out
- 56:15and see something, get out there and do it.
- 56:17You know, you want to sit here and you may fail.
- 56:19And that's the other thing, you know, it's your thing, you're
- 56:21gonna learn, you may fail, and it's alright to fail, but if you
- 56:25don't sit here and get out there and put yourself into that
- 56:27situation, you never going to ever know, you know what I mean?
- 56:30Like, that's the best. A I can sit here and say you
- 56:33learned to be the strongest version of view where you can
- 56:35fall on your ass and get back up again.
- 56:38That's really, it's kind of awesome actually I like that.
- 56:42Anyways, it's only for me. Thanks for sharing, man.
- 56:45Are you also a peace officers are correct.
- 56:49Sometimes I was. Yes, yes.
- 56:51II was a police officer? Yes.
- 56:54And I, you know, what's funny about that is like when I joined
- 57:01I did it because, you know, I wanted to help people, right?
- 57:03And it was something that meant a lot to me.
- 57:06I want to help people and save people, you know, wasn't you
- 57:09know, say to people, you know, here I am.
- 57:11You know, the, the hero complex right now
- 57:25As possible and slowly but surely I realized you know it's
- 57:31it wasn't that that's not what that was and I quickly fell out
- 57:35of love with it and I was like you know what, this isn't for
- 57:39me. Like this is not what I'm about.
- 57:42This is not what I stand for. I'm like Because you're like
- 57:47bureaucratic bullshit or just things you, so maybe Lori with
- 57:51morally, maybe angel. That.
- 57:54While first things was an entire, there's a lot of things
- 57:56I saw that. I didn't just didn't agree with
- 57:59morally. The one thing that always sticks
- 58:01out of my head, you know, tonight, as well as well
- 58:06whereabouts, where you're a police officer because fun fact.
- 58:08I've had a former police officer on the show from New York, but
- 58:12Lena why it's, yeah, it's the NYPD, you know, so it's like,
- 58:18you know, one of the biggest names in police, right?
- 58:21And there's a couple things like the one incident Always sticks
- 58:24out to me, is we got a call one time like these group, of kids,
- 58:31inside of a building of a Home Depot, parking lot and it was
- 58:37just a kids playing football, right?
- 58:41That's all it was. The store was closed.
- 58:43There was no cars in a parking lot, whatever.
- 58:45Maybe they're just having fun tossing around a football.
- 58:51Yeah, it's 10:00 at night 10. 12:00 at night, you know?
- 58:55Okay, cool. I get it or they really supposed
- 58:57to be there. No, the store is closed.
- 58:59You're not supposed to be there. You know.
- 59:03Did they have a fence? No they didn't that Gates wide
- 59:05open you know. And here comes like a bunch of
- 59:09other officers and they just start taking their stuff and
- 59:12rifling through it. I'm just like holy, hold on a
- 59:14second. You're not you're not really
- 59:16allowed to do that. Are you stopping them?
- 59:19Are they under arrest? Are you riding them?
- 59:21A citation? Well, what are you doing?
- 59:24I like that's kind of against there, a manager.
- 59:26You're forcing them to give them, you know, you're give you
- 59:30their property and you can just open it willingly.
- 59:32I'm like, that's, that's not cool, man.
- 59:34That's not cool at all. Like, what are you doing?
- 59:37And then it brings in the question.
- 59:39Well, why are you even here bothering them?
- 59:42Because I remember like, it's like, four or five cars pulled
- 59:45up and it's just a bunch of kids playing football in a Home Depot
- 59:48parking lot. Are they breaking things?
- 59:51Know, are they being Rowdy and Loud?
- 59:53Know they're Not game of football, or would you rather
- 59:56than sit here and that's my alarm.
- 59:58I'm sorry. Would you rather them sit here
- 1:00:02and let you know, be dealing drugs or selling drugs, or
- 1:00:05taking drugs, or would you rather good be playing football
- 1:00:08in a Home Depot parking lot? Like, I don't understand that
- 1:00:11concept, like, here's a group of kids doing absolutely nothing
- 1:00:16wrong except being, you know, in a parking lot after hours, you
- 1:00:19know, but for all intensive purposes, are they bothering
- 1:00:23anybody? No.
- 1:00:24But here you are busting their balls because you got a call to
- 1:00:29go to there and then now you're rifling through.
- 1:00:32That's not open take it's not open season away from through
- 1:00:35their stuff to go through the things you have any reason to do
- 1:00:39that. No.
- 1:00:40And you see it happens more often than you think where you
- 1:00:44can sit here and get somebody on these question traps and you
- 1:00:50know, like I can't even do it now, I could still do it.
- 1:00:54You talk to somebody and it's like leading somebody down in
- 1:00:57line of questioning where you want them to get now or you want
- 1:01:00an answer from them but you want them to say unwilling.
- 1:01:04Well, what were you doing? Why are you here?
- 1:01:06Why is this? Why is that?
- 1:01:07Who brought you here? Well, you know, how long have
- 1:01:09you been here for? And you?
- 1:01:11You it's a very kind of like, tricky way of doing things and
- 1:01:17I'm just like, it's I like to take people at their word for
- 1:01:20the most part and I'm like, that's kind of doesn't sit,
- 1:01:23right? With me a lot of times and you
- 1:01:26see it happens more often than you think getting somebody to
- 1:01:30say something that they didn't actually mean, or getting
- 1:01:33somebody to do something, they didn't actually do or say or
- 1:01:37mean to do, it's so easy and they teach you how to do it.
- 1:01:43That's the craziest thing in the world.
- 1:01:44They actually teach you how to do all this and it's like, I
- 1:01:49really didn't like that too much, and I did it for like
- 1:01:52seven years. But when did she I went like
- 1:01:56what years we are cop. I want to say like 2016, she
- 1:02:04does important know it was 2014, there was no never mind, it's
- 1:02:072014. And then I officially got onto
- 1:02:12the streets like 2015, 2016 like that.
- 1:02:16So I did it for like seven years and I'm just like, I've kind of
- 1:02:22have enough of this because it starts changing Changing you as
- 1:02:25a person and you start questioning everybody's Motors
- 1:02:29and the only friends that you have our cops and and you're
- 1:02:32just like, it's very taxing and she's drawing.
- 1:02:38That's, that's the point. I didn't ask the, the other
- 1:02:41gentleman that I had, that was a police officer.
- 1:02:43Probably should have asked him this to.
- 1:02:45Like, how did people who weren't cops Footwear that did know, you
- 1:02:51how did they change their behavior towards you?
- 1:02:55Oh yeah, oh yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.
- 1:02:58That it was, you know, you have your friends, you know, for, you
- 1:03:04know, of the unsavory type, you know, the friends you've known
- 1:03:06for like forever and a day and you're like, oh, you know, hold
- 1:03:11on, hold on, you know, officer so-and-so is here now.
- 1:03:13And I'm just like, bro, I'm not even working right now to begin
- 1:03:16with. Just chill out with that.
- 1:03:18And then you start getting paranoid too because but okay,
- 1:03:21I'll go off like the whole Duty cop thing.
- 1:03:24Like you still. If you see that crime, I you
- 1:03:27still have to you do, yes? Yes, yes, yes, you're right.
- 1:03:40I didn't see that. I mean, your little things you
- 1:03:47like, maybe I shouldn't be, you know.
- 1:03:51Yeah, it looks like it's gonna get out of control.
- 1:03:54Not be here, but like your you're overly like, egregious
- 1:03:56things, like, no, I have to actually do something about
- 1:04:00this. So, it's like, at that point,
- 1:04:03you become even more Ultra aware of your, excuse me, if your
- 1:04:08surroundings of your situations, like, do I want to be in this
- 1:04:11situation? Do I not want to be in this
- 1:04:12situation? Do I want to associate myself
- 1:04:14with these type of people? That's a whole other thing to
- 1:04:18sit here and get involved with. And you just like, it makes you
- 1:04:20hyper aware of everyone and everything.
- 1:04:25And you like, well, this guy's got his hands in his pockets.
- 1:04:28All right. Well, he could just have his
- 1:04:29hands in his pockets, or he could have something in his
- 1:04:32pocket, you know, you know, easy crew, door.
- 1:04:35He's a criminal. Yeah, exactly.
- 1:04:38It's either like, what are you doing?
- 1:04:40You know what? This guy's got his hood on and
- 1:04:42you're like, oh, all right. Cool.
- 1:04:44No, he has a hood on or he has his hood on and it's 90 degrees
- 1:04:48outside. Yeah.
- 1:04:50You like you started thinking about all these different things
- 1:04:52and it's like all right. Cool.
- 1:04:56It just makes you really hyper way of everybody and then you
- 1:04:59start questioning everybody's motives.
- 1:05:01And that's where you're like, I don't know, bro.
- 1:05:07But that's a little difficult. What's the like craziest thing
- 1:05:11you ever saw as a cop? I don't know.
- 1:05:19Man is a few things. There's a few things.
- 1:05:25I think the crazy. Wow.
- 1:05:28I mean, geez, that's a tough one, dude, because I was, I was
- 1:05:35out during the riots for like, Eric Gardner and Freddie gray
- 1:05:39and everything else like that. So, I did that I was at a parade
- 1:05:44in somebody's hand. Got caught off.
- 1:05:46Oh my God. Yeah, that was one.
- 1:05:50There was one that was a fire. And we had to do something about
- 1:05:55the fire. That was that one.
- 1:05:58There was people getting the car accidents fleeing from scenes
- 1:06:01and like you're flying down chasing, there's people down
- 1:06:04sometimes. Yeah, it's there's a lot of the
- 1:06:10most standout one. It was like this when I first
- 1:06:13started a woman had passed away and our own home and you got a
- 1:06:18call and you always know it's going to be like something
- 1:06:21because people Well there's a really bad smell coming from
- 1:06:25this particular part and you're like, oh, okay, and it smells
- 1:06:30like rotting fruit and you like, oh, okay, cool.
- 1:06:34Alright, you instinctively know like because again from the
- 1:06:38military I you know you've been around a few things and you're
- 1:06:41like alright and this woman was there and she had passed down
- 1:06:45the way she had passed out was half her body was on her bed and
- 1:06:49then have her body was on the floor.
- 1:06:51Geez. And Oh and all the blood because
- 1:06:54now she's you know her her heart you know and her had her on the
- 1:06:58floor and everything else like that.
- 1:06:59So she's like kind of like half on the bed half from the floor,
- 1:07:01all the blood had you know pulled around her head in her
- 1:07:05and her face and her body and she turned purple and I'm just
- 1:07:09like, oh, oh, okay. And you know, you wait for the
- 1:07:13medical examiner and the EMTs, they do what they do.
- 1:07:15Because, you know, you're not allowed to touch the body
- 1:07:20because it could be a potentially a crime scene.
- 1:07:23Unless I get somebody like, who's actively dying, you know,
- 1:07:27where you have to jump in and Save Somebody.
- 1:07:29But yeah, that was one thing. Another thing is like, I gotta
- 1:07:32like, I was coming back from doing something and there's a
- 1:07:36call like a dead body in the street and I go to the person
- 1:07:40who called him like, Hey, did you call the guy?
- 1:07:42Yeah, office. And I gotta tell you something.
- 1:07:44It's a dead body in the street and I'm like, no, no, no, no,
- 1:07:49there's no dead body in the street, get out of here.
- 1:07:51You know, there's nobody around is Screaming, you didn't hear
- 1:07:53anything and you walk over like, oh shit.
- 1:07:55It really is a dead body and like in the middle of the damn
- 1:07:57road like oh, okay, all right, all along, like I get a bowl
- 1:08:01long now like I guess we're going to sit down and do this
- 1:08:03and do that and do everything else will be.
- 1:08:05I have to do, it gets absolutely insane and absolutely crazy.
- 1:08:11I've had people cry for help, I've had people call for help.
- 1:08:13I have people who didn't want help or my personal favorite is
- 1:08:18the person. Sometimes, people will call the
- 1:08:21police and then you'd have To arrest the person who called you
- 1:08:24because they're, you know, you you determine through your own
- 1:08:26investigation at their fault. They're like, well, I called
- 1:08:29you. So, how am I father?
- 1:08:32That's that's not how that works.
- 1:08:34And you have to do works at all buddy.
- 1:08:36Have to do with any Karen's where they just called you like,
- 1:08:40oh yeah. Oh yeah, that's Karen stories.
- 1:08:43Hey dash one. Yeah, the best Karen start
- 1:08:48actually comes from a guy wasn't male characters.
- 1:08:53Yeah, it was a male, Karen. All right, the best stories from
- 1:08:56a guide. Calvin.
- 1:08:58Yea really relevant story. I don't don't, don't spread that
- 1:09:01one around me, Covenant, write this out.
- 1:09:03There's a guy, I think, if I remember like a problem with,
- 1:09:06like a red light or something like that, it was something, you
- 1:09:08know, benign, and, and, you know, you go up to the license,
- 1:09:13registration proof of insurance, please.
- 1:09:14And thank you. And, uh, I'm being polite as
- 1:09:16much as humanly possible as much as the situation allows for it.
- 1:09:20And the I was like, well, why are you pulling lonely?
- 1:09:24I'll tell you soon as you produce documentation, I've
- 1:09:26requested, you know, I'm more than willing to explain to you
- 1:09:29and guys, like well officer, this is how, you know, they're
- 1:09:33going to be officer, would you see here and say that you get
- 1:09:38paid from the city right now? Now I'm a hard-working
- 1:09:46individual and, you know, I pay my taxes.
- 1:09:49I don't like, okay, very well. Would you my taxes go?
- 1:09:52To the city. I'm like, oh, okay, cool.
- 1:09:54So, would you say that, you know, my taxes pay your salary
- 1:09:58and by extension, would you sit here and say, I'm kind of your
- 1:10:00boss and I'm like, no, that's not how that works.
- 1:10:05No. I'm like, as I give me the
- 1:10:07documentation now. Now, now you're kind of being a
- 1:10:09dick to me. Yeah.
- 1:10:10And I'm going to be a dick to you, right?
- 1:10:12I'm like Shannon said, you called really like this.
- 1:10:14The rest of of big dick. But again, you know, Back to
- 1:10:23they, you know, you can work around it, you can use.
- 1:10:26Yeah, you can really ruin someone's day if you wanted to
- 1:10:29write, and I'm just like, well, no, just do it.
- 1:10:32Give me your license, registration proof of insurance.
- 1:10:34I stop your nonsense. Alright, finally gives it up and
- 1:10:37he's like, well, you know, this is where like the whole
- 1:10:41Sovereign Citizen and comes in as a thing like in the state's
- 1:10:44called being a sovereign citizen.
- 1:10:45Well, we have the free right to travel and we have the free
- 1:10:48right to know wrong between states and so on and so forth.
- 1:10:51Yeah, yeah. Yeah, and all this other stuff
- 1:10:53and I'm like, okay cool. Yeah, you do, but driving is a
- 1:10:58privilege and you have to be licensed to drive.
- 1:11:01You can free roam. However, you want a boy to be on
- 1:11:04bike or on foot or however, you want to go.
- 1:11:06But, you know, it driving is a privilege and that privilege can
- 1:11:09be revoked at any point in time. So, it's very nice try.
- 1:11:15You know, I've been to in court and Court.
- 1:11:18People have tried to fight me in court like forensically,
- 1:11:22Education. And I'm just like, that's not
- 1:11:25gonna end well for you, buddy likes him.
- 1:11:27Please don't do that. It's just people, you passenger
- 1:11:30books. Like, yeah, I have either given
- 1:11:34a ticket to or a of Arrested, something like people, try and
- 1:11:40fight you and you just like, but then again, like, you know,
- 1:11:45naturally a very big guy and I'm like, dude, that's really not
- 1:11:48gonna, you know, benefit you. But then again, Like you also
- 1:11:52get like a lot of kids who are like short and you know, scrawny
- 1:11:56and everything else like that. And you know, they put on the
- 1:11:59shield and they put on the new, the uniform and all of some.
- 1:12:02Now they can fight. Now they can shoot not even
- 1:12:04there there, The Incredible Hulk or whatever.
- 1:12:07And I'm just like, you know, I'm like the uniform me, personally,
- 1:12:12it doesn't go for everybody. The, the uniform kind of brings
- 1:12:16out something in you. I don't know.
- 1:12:20It kind of makes you like A bit of a dick sometimes, it doesn't
- 1:12:24apply to everybody, of course. But, you know, I feel like
- 1:12:27people do join for the very wrong reasons.
- 1:12:30And then you put that uniform on, and it's like, it's like,
- 1:12:34dude. No.
- 1:12:35I you're just like an asshole, bro.
- 1:12:38Who, like chill the fuck out? Were you always this way or the
- 1:12:42uniform make it out? Well, I gotta, I don't know.
- 1:12:46You, you and especially throughout the years.
- 1:12:48You just become so jaded to like so many different things.
- 1:12:52As you like, I don't know. I watched a, I mean, up at this
- 1:12:58was, this was an old 70s movie, but Serpico, I'm sure you're
- 1:13:02probably familiar with it, Al Pacino movie, that's actually,
- 1:13:06yeah, Serpico. That's actually based on a very
- 1:13:08true. Yeah, yeah, that's a crazy thing
- 1:13:12in the world that was a real deal, kind of thing.
- 1:13:16I wondered like, ugh. I know it's a long time ago, but
- 1:13:19we've what you mentioned earlier about how you see certain things
- 1:13:21in the job that maybe are not all there.
- 1:13:23Like, would you say modern And policing is better or worse when
- 1:13:28you use that kind of as an example like a measurement of
- 1:13:32how things used to be. I don't know that that's you
- 1:13:48because it does happen. It does happen where you're
- 1:13:53putting two like these situations as like these are you
- 1:13:56making break situations, I right, the make you a better
- 1:13:59person. I don't, I don't know.
- 1:14:03I guess you you find out who you are.
- 1:14:05I guess is the best way to explain it.
- 1:14:09II, are you find out who you are or where you're Mortals draw,
- 1:14:13wherever from right? I guess it's the best way to say
- 1:14:17it. You you you find out, you know,
- 1:14:21what you're really about. I, I guess that's the bed.
- 1:14:27I don't know, man. Like there's a very tricky way
- 1:14:29she and I said it's a heavy question.
- 1:14:33You you find out the real you I guess.
- 1:14:38You know, because it's so easy to fall down like a rabbit hole
- 1:14:42but something like, well, I let this slide so I could let this
- 1:14:46slide or I did this, so I could do it again or I could do this.
- 1:14:52It's I don't. That's so, man.
- 1:14:55That's a tough one. Do do like it, but it's good on
- 1:14:59you for that. Let's go for a more fun one.
- 1:15:04There's a lot of shows in the states, like plea, I've got a
- 1:15:08lot of them as well at police dashcam style shows where you
- 1:15:11expose different types of criminals and they give me a lot
- 1:15:14of fun. I'm wondering with your
- 1:15:16experiences as a police officer stupidest City like as in the
- 1:15:23stupidest criminal you came across you must have some
- 1:15:25stories where you just like oh yeah.
- 1:15:29I have one word it was I was they call it a post your at a
- 1:15:36post, edit a specific area. You're not supposed to leave our
- 1:15:39this. You're not supposed to leave
- 1:15:40this area or the surrounding area.
- 1:15:42So they call our post and I'm in the car and this woman comes up
- 1:15:47and she just knocks on the window she's like she's me
- 1:15:49officer. Can I talk to you for a second?
- 1:15:50I'm like yeah. What's up?
- 1:15:51So you know short talk to me. She goes well There was a guy
- 1:16:00and I went to go buy drugs and I bought the drugs I gave him the
- 1:16:05money and he gave me, you know, the bag that I thought was
- 1:16:08supposed to be you know crack and it wasn't, it was a bunch of
- 1:16:11tic tacs and I'm just like, she's like I just wanted to make
- 1:16:17you aware of it and I want to know if there's something you
- 1:16:19could do about it and I'm like, let me get this straight, you're
- 1:16:24coming to the police, she goes yes.
- 1:16:26And I'm like You, you went to a purchase illegal drugs, she's
- 1:16:30like, yes and your drug dealer rip you off, right?
- 1:16:34And she goes, Can I just leave? I'm like yeah you can just leave
- 1:16:43just like the clock ticking in your head, you know, like hey I
- 1:16:51went to go buy drugs and I got ripped off now as a person, you,
- 1:16:56you know, you broke that bond between dealer and seller,
- 1:16:59right? Okay.
- 1:17:00Cool. You broke that Bond.
- 1:17:01All right. I get that concept as a cop.
- 1:17:05You're coming too. You know, report your illegal
- 1:17:09activities on somebody else's illegal activities and I'm just
- 1:17:12like, dude that's it. Did you run that conversation up
- 1:17:16through your head? If not, you know, rewind this
- 1:17:19and, you know, talk to me later. Okay?
- 1:17:22She's like, I can't just leave my get you, you can go if you
- 1:17:25like, it's all right. Go.
- 1:17:27I'm not gonna help you with your illegal drug situation.
- 1:17:31Yeah. You know, I guess you're asked
- 1:17:33out over ever money. You know, you still have the
- 1:17:35other one was A guy came up to me and he's like officer, I want
- 1:17:39to, I want to bring to your attention something, all right.
- 1:17:42What's up is like the bouncers? Throw me out of the club.
- 1:17:46I'm like, okay, he goes, yeah, I took my five dollars, I guess
- 1:17:50with the entrance fee, and he threw me out into the can't come
- 1:17:52in, and I'm like, well, and I try to get my money back.
- 1:17:54I'm like, okay cool. Well, where's the club?
- 1:17:57Well, you know, the barber shop over there?
- 1:17:59And I know that well, they run an illegal night club down
- 1:18:02there. I'm just like, all right, so now
- 1:18:04we I'm not gonna help you get your money.
- 1:18:07Back. But, you know, you just sat in,
- 1:18:08like, telling me like someone being.
- 1:18:10But by the way, were you just sitting there thinking like, we
- 1:18:12just like, uh, well work that he's just, um, that's extrema,
- 1:18:20it's not even that it's like x amount of paperwork.
- 1:18:22It's just like, do you like think about what you're saying
- 1:18:25first before you come up to a cop that you're illegal
- 1:18:28nightclub that you're at or the your legal jugs are trying to
- 1:18:31purchase and your kind of like see the cops can help you with
- 1:18:36your illegal? The situation I'm like Shania.
- 1:18:41No no problem. No that's not how that goes.
- 1:18:46Jesus people, man. I've had a lot of funny people.
- 1:18:50I've had a lot of ones man woman.
- 1:18:53I pulled over a woman one time and a lot of funny stories and
- 1:18:57she was like speeding. I pulled over and I'm like, you
- 1:19:00know, you know, I am a very particular reason that you're
- 1:19:03driving above the speed limit and she starts like off that it
- 1:19:07added up whatever and her friends like sitting in the car
- 1:19:09she's like officer stopped for a second.
- 1:19:11Please, I got to sit here and I'll be very honest with you.
- 1:19:14All right, what? Just had like, he's what was it?
- 1:19:18Like juice smoothies. That's what it was.
- 1:19:20And it is running right through her and she's got to take it.
- 1:19:22Like the biggest shit music, like possible and our stomach's
- 1:19:25Hurtin. And that's, and I'm just like,
- 1:19:30You made me you, you embarrassed yourself, you made me laugh.
- 1:19:33And I'm like, all right. I'll see you later.
- 1:19:35Like, you know, have had a go for it.
- 1:19:37I'll talk to you later. You know what it is.
- 1:19:41Like not every guy's a dick. It's, you can make me laugh, you
- 1:19:44know, I'll see you later. Like, I'll talk to you later
- 1:19:47provided. I had to write them.
- 1:19:48And guys, you know, you want to get off crime to make the
- 1:19:51coupler off as long as it's not like overly egregious than
- 1:19:56you'll be. All right, you know, The best
- 1:19:58way to say we can the dad dad jokes column.
- 1:20:02No problem. Yeah, jokes, exactly a couple of
- 1:20:11questions for you. What's the biggest what's the
- 1:20:15biggest life lesson you've learned so far?
- 1:20:24You can be the best yield that you could be.
- 1:20:26That's it. It's and only you be the best
- 1:20:30you that you could be is the best life lesson I ever learned.
- 1:20:35It's, you know, how were you gonna move on from this
- 1:20:38situation? How are you going to sit here
- 1:20:40and deal with this situation? Well what are you going to do to
- 1:20:42achieve your goal? And keep in mind that everything
- 1:20:45has an answer at that exact moment in time not everything is
- 1:20:49going to have an answer at that moment.
- 1:20:50I'm you're going to find out that answer along the way.
- 1:20:54But it's literally be the best you that you can be and don't
- 1:20:58hold anybody else to your standards because you're kind of
- 1:21:02just going to fail on. You're going to be disappointed.
- 1:21:06And what's the best advice you've ever received?
- 1:21:14If you want something go after it, don't ever be afraid to ask.
- 1:21:17I think best like I asked my teacher just recently, because
- 1:21:25of the, the acting teachers that I have are from the show's.
- 1:21:29I want to be on. Oh wow.
- 1:21:31So I recently asked my so I asked my teacher recently, I was
- 1:21:35like, hey, I hope I'm not crossing any boundaries and
- 1:21:38aligns or whatever, maybe. But if I can do you mind.
- 1:21:43Introducing me to the casting director or at least introducing
- 1:21:47me to you know your agency your agent, you know, as I hope I
- 1:21:50didn't cross any kind of lines whatever may be and the one
- 1:21:54thing he said her and said was she's like, first things first.
- 1:21:57Don't ever be afraid to ask for what you want because no one's
- 1:22:00going to give it to you. You gotta ask you got to put
- 1:22:03yourself out there and ask you and on a me and that's okay.
- 1:22:07It's don't be afraid to ask. They're just really what it is.
- 1:22:10You just don't be afraid to ask you know.
- 1:22:14As we draw things to a close today, do you have any upcoming
- 1:22:16projects or final thoughts that you'd like to share?
- 1:22:23But yourself out there that adds its I have a couple project.
- 1:22:27I don't I've done a few audio books and a few show ya, the
- 1:22:32audio books right? Oh man, I have a story about
- 1:22:35audiobook right quick. There is a book.
- 1:22:38I did it was for a religious text and it was like if I
- 1:22:46remember correctly, it was like the queen of the coast and her
- 1:22:50evil minions and The guy was a very religious person and I had
- 1:22:55to sit here and there's nothing wrong with that.
- 1:22:57It doesn't bother me. But what did bother me was that
- 1:23:00I had to say like in the name of Jesus over 200 times and I'm
- 1:23:05just like, oh man, like it was just pulling teeth because he
- 1:23:12was in various way in different lines of in the name of Jesus
- 1:23:18and it was every evil fired. Every evil Arrow fired back at
- 1:23:22me. I fire back.
- 1:23:23You in the name of Jesus. Every evil intention fired at
- 1:23:27me. I fired directly back at you in
- 1:23:30the name of Jesus, Jesus in the name of Jesus, and it was over
- 1:23:37200 times. And again, it's not knocking
- 1:23:39anybody, you know, believe who you whatever you want to
- 1:23:42believe. Now, that's all fine and dandy
- 1:23:44but so long as it is just man, Jesus in the name of Jesus right
- 1:23:51here, and that's exactly. In the name of Jesus.
- 1:24:23Because even, you know, you could be the best actor in the
- 1:24:27world. And even then, you know, they
- 1:24:29still talk to coaches and they still talk to actors and classes
- 1:24:33even LeBron James still practices, you know, get out
- 1:24:36there take the acting classes and just put yourself out there.
- 1:24:40That's the best advice I can ever give anybody just take the
- 1:24:44classes and put yourself out there.
- 1:24:46You may be naturally, talented and good at something.
- 1:24:49Yeah, that's cool. But you still gotta practice, No
- 1:24:53problem, you know what I mean? You still gotta practice these.
- 1:24:56I gotta try and make sure that's be.
- 1:24:59Yeah, make sure you do it all in the name of Jesus.
- 1:25:06Jesus. Jesus.
- 1:25:23At least I've seen it all. So, anyways, I can't even think
- 1:25:26with Jesus. Yeah, man.
- 1:25:33Yeah, it's it was a, it was a tough one.
- 1:25:37I made it through it. I could just sit here now, just
- 1:25:44say that for the next half an hour,
- 1:25:59The catchphrase. All right.
- 1:26:12All right. It has been a pleasure.
