• 1:01
  SPEAKER_01: Okay.
• 1:02
  SPEAKER_01: Are you ready?
• 1:04
SPEAKER_01: So John, you know, started this.
• 1:06
SPEAKER_01: John's a uh he was 18 years of age in 1970, so he's got a a special uh place in his heart for 70 model cars.
• 1:17
  SPEAKER_01: Okay?
• 1:18
SPEAKER_01: So our first car today that we're going to discuss is the 1970 Dodge Super B in the collection.
• 1:28
SPEAKER_01: I don't is it in here today?
• 1:30
SPEAKER_01: I don't know if it is or not.
• 1:32
SPEAKER_01: I see a yellow car over there, but it may or may not be yet.
• 1:35
  SPEAKER_01: Anyway, it's back there.
• 1:36
SPEAKER_01: It's called Banana Yellow Exterior with a black interior.
• 1:40
SPEAKER_01: This has a 440 six-pack, 440 cubic inch V8, three two-barrel carburetors, and the N96, not mask, but hood scoop.
• 1:55
SPEAKER_01: Just thought I'd throw that out there.
• 1:57
  SPEAKER_01: Torque flight automatic transmission.
• 2:00
SPEAKER_01: Power steering, an AC, power front disc brakes, and here's the real clincher on this car.
• 2:09
SPEAKER_01: It's a numbers matching, one of only 599 built.
• 2:16
  SPEAKER_01: That's that's pretty cool.
• 2:17
SPEAKER_01: Numbers matching, one of 599.
• 2:20
  SPEAKER_01: So um, congratulations, John.
• 2:23
SPEAKER_01: I know that he put a lot of thought in his collection when he was buying all of these back in the day.
• 2:29
SPEAKER_01: Before this place was built, he had the collection in a barn here on the property.
• 2:35
SPEAKER_01: Well, this is taking the place of the barn, although I understand that the barn is still in use because not all the cars are inside the hideout to make room for people, tables, chairs, and that sort of stuff.
• 2:47
  SPEAKER_01: Okay.
• 2:48
SPEAKER_01: Next up on the list is the 1970 Plymouth Superbird.
• 2:55
  SPEAKER_03: Woo-hoo!
• 2:57
SPEAKER_01: Now, um this one kind of changed the landscape of NASCAR because it's got that big, weird nose on the front of it, and that great big sticks way above the roof line, rear spoiler on it, along with plenty of power and everything.
• 3:15
SPEAKER_01: If you see this car in person, you go, man, that's really weird looking.
• 3:18
SPEAKER_01: But boy, I'll tell you what, it certainly got got the attention of NASCAR.
• 3:22
  SPEAKER_01: Oh, it didn't.
• 3:23
SPEAKER_01: Because it won all of the races that it was in.
• 3:25
  SPEAKER_01: It was truly amazing.
• 3:26
SPEAKER_01: And then they banned it.
• 3:28
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they banned it.
• 3:29
SPEAKER_01: They tried they tried to make some changes to to accommodate it, but it now didn't happen.
• 3:35
SPEAKER_01: And then it was kind of like the very first car that really worked on the aerodynamics of the cars.
• 3:40
SPEAKER_01: And that really changed the landscape of NASCAR.
• 3:43
  SPEAKER_02: It did.
• 3:44
SPEAKER_01: The cars didn't look like that after they banned the car, clearly, but they started working about, you know, windshield rake, uh, the nose going into the wind at 200 miles an hour.
• 3:55
SPEAKER_01: Uh it changed the landscape.
• 3:56
SPEAKER_01: And let's not forget the uh the rear spec sp uh deck lid spoiler on the thing.
• 4:02
SPEAKER_01: And you know that thing's adjustable?
• 4:04
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it can also sit on it.
• 4:05
SPEAKER_03: It's it holds the weight of a human.
• 4:07
SPEAKER_03: Well, it holds some humans.
• 4:09
SPEAKER_02: It holds the weight of a very small blonde in the bikini.
• 4:11
SPEAKER_02: I've seen that, but I haven't seen anybody like Don set up there.
• 4:15
  SPEAKER_02: It's not mother-in-law.
• 4:16
SPEAKER_01: It must be in that bikini.
• 4:18
SPEAKER_01: You just didn't recognize me in the bottom.
• 4:19
SPEAKER_01: It must have been younger years.
• 4:21
  SPEAKER_01: That's not mother-in-law proof.
• 4:24
SPEAKER_01: So uh here's the here's the specs on this.
• 4:26
SPEAKER_01: 440 cubic inch V8, 390 horsepower, three two-barrel carburetors, torque flight automatic transmission, power steering, power front disc brakes, numbers matching.

• 4:45
SPEAKER_01: There were a total of 1,840 super birds made.
• 4:49
SPEAKER_01: One for every dealership in America.
• 4:52
  SPEAKER_01: Wow.
• 4:53
SPEAKER_01: That's how they did it.
• 4:55
SPEAKER_02: That was the NASCAR rule at the time.
• 4:57
SPEAKER_01: Well, it was a NASCAR rule that you had to build 500.
• 5:01
SPEAKER_01: And they decided that we're going to give one to every dealership.
• 5:05
SPEAKER_02: Well, I thought NASCAR told them they had to.
• 5:07
  SPEAKER_01: 500.
• 5:08
  SPEAKER_01: There's always 500 cars.
• 5:10
SPEAKER_01: Back in the day, that's that was the deal for any kind of car.
• 5:13
SPEAKER_01: You had to build 500 of them.
• 5:15
SPEAKER_01: That's why the old saying about, you know, race on Sunday, sell on Monday.
• 5:19
  SPEAKER_01: True.
• 5:19
  SPEAKER_01: There you go.
• 5:20

• 5:31
SPEAKER_01: I don't know whether it still is, but I would imagine it would be.
• 5:33
SPEAKER_01: If you've ever heard this car run, you go, yeah, I kind of get it.
• 5:37
  SPEAKER_01: It's painted sublime.
• 5:39

• 9:05
SPEAKER_01: It is a real pain, I can tell you that.
• 9:08
SPEAKER_01: Uh you gotta have uh uh an actually uh an airflow meter that you stick on top of the carburetor to see what kind of air it's pulling in.
• 9:17
SPEAKER_01: And that's only the air side of it.

• 10:08
SPEAKER_01: But we'll get to that.
• 10:10
  SPEAKER_01: All right.
• 10:11

• 10:42
SPEAKER_01: John is really into that uh three-barrel, yeah.
• 10:45
  SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
• 10:46
SPEAKER_01: What they call the six-pack.
• 10:47

• 11:13
  SPEAKER_01: I got that.
• 11:14
SPEAKER_01: But I I'm drawn to the rest of mods.
• 11:16
SPEAKER_03: Well, sometimes you can't have all that.
• 11:18
SPEAKER_03: And you you need you want to you want the vehicle, but you don't you don't you didn't find the car with all of the numbers matching, so you gotta adapt.
• 11:25
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but I want to drive it.
• 11:26
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the numbers car to me, a matching like if that was a matching car, I I wouldn't I'd be hard pressed to drive it very much on the street.
• 11:35
SPEAKER_02: Just because you know, the value of it, some little old lady run a red light or something and T-bone it.
• 11:40
SPEAKER_02: That happens all the time.
• 11:41
  SPEAKER_02: Well, I know it.
• 11:41
  SPEAKER_02: That's the reason I wouldn't.
• 11:42

• 15:53
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but if it doesn't have the air, and if it gets a good covering of silt on it, I really don't think.
• 15:58
SPEAKER_02: If you look at some of them they pulled out when they find these bodies and stuff.
• 16:01
SPEAKER_01: You know what happens when you die?

SPEAKER_01: Loop, loop, loop, lupo, loop, not loop.
• 21:33
  SPEAKER_01: Lupo's my neighbor.
• 21:35
  SPEAKER_01: It's loop.
• 21:35
  SPEAKER_01: Loop.
• 21:36
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 21:37
SPEAKER_02: And uh this is benefiting Texas Equisearch.
• 21:39
SPEAKER_02: They would do this twice a year.
• 21:40
SPEAKER_02: This spring happens to be their crawfish uh event.
• 21:43
SPEAKER_01: What year, uh what day is this?
• 21:45
SPEAKER_02: This is on next Saturday, the next Saturday.
• 21:47
  SPEAKER_02: Okay.
• 21:47
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's coming up pretty quick.
• 21:49
SPEAKER_02: So it's only seven days out.

SPEAKER_02: So be sure to check it out.
• 21:52
  SPEAKER_02: And uh it's a great, it's a good event.
• 21:55
SPEAKER_02: It has lots of fun.
• 21:55
SPEAKER_02: We went down there here recently.
• 21:57
  SPEAKER_02: Good.
• 21:57
SPEAKER_02: It's a Space City Corvette Club on Facebook and uh on the internet, and you can find out more information.
• 22:03
  SPEAKER_02: Okay.
• 22:03
  SPEAKER_01: All right, time now.
• 22:04
SPEAKER_01: I want to get uh some of the uh news stories in, and obviously the one that the the elephant in the room, so to speak.
• 22:10
SPEAKER_03: Oh, as a as a as a Mopar uh elephant hint.
• 22:13
  SPEAKER_03: There you go.
• 22:14
  SPEAKER_03: Oh my god.
• 22:15
SPEAKER_03: The elephant in the room.
• 22:16
SPEAKER_01: While President Donald Trump has imposed a 25% tariff on imported vehicles, in all likelihood, consumers will not see a 25% hike.
• 22:24
SPEAKER_01: That's because of complex factors, including the amount of non-U.S.
• 22:29
SPEAKER_01: content in each vehicle, automaker calculus, dealer decision making, and loan agreements.
• 22:37
SPEAKER_01: Cox Automotive, for example, predicts a 2.8% year-over-year increase in wholesale vehicle prices in 2025.
• 22:44
SPEAKER_01: BlackBook presents uh projects a 5% increase in the average transaction price this year.
• 22:50
SPEAKER_01: Morgan Stanley predicts the tariffs will boost the average price of a vehicle by 11 or 12 percent.
• 22:55
SPEAKER_01: So don't panic, be calm.
• 22:58
  SPEAKER_01: Hang on, man.
• 22:59
  SPEAKER_01: Be happy crazy.
• 23:01
SPEAKER_01: Well, don't worry about it.
• 23:02
SPEAKER_01: The projections recognize that the tariff is not applied to the manufacturer's suggested retail price, and that the industry relies on sometimes labyrinth systems to calculate the vehicle's cost.
• 23:14
SPEAKER_01: The price of the vehicle is determined using a cocktail of market research, bills of materials, financial agreements, institution, and other elements.
• 23:26
SPEAKER_01: Even more variability enters the picture in the dealership lot, where prices vary widely by region, timing, personal relationships, and the way buyers settle up with the retailer, a separate business from the automaker.
• 23:42
SPEAKER_01: Are you following all of this?
• 23:44
SPEAKER_01: We talked about this with our guest last week.
• 23:46
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
• 23:47
SPEAKER_01: It sounds like a bunch of lawyers saying, So automakers export vehicles from the foreign facilities and calculate the transaction value of the import.
• 23:54
  SPEAKER_01: U.S.
• 23:54
SPEAKER_01: Customs and Border Protection defines the transaction value as, quote, the price actually paid or payable for the merchandise when sold for exportation to the United States.
• 24:06
  SPEAKER_01: End quote.
• 24:07
SPEAKER_01: Plus, packing costs, commission, royalties or license fees, or resale proceeds that go to the seller.
• 24:16
SPEAKER_01: Importers have to explain the declared transaction value to the government.
• 24:21
SPEAKER_01: Even if an actual sale does not take place, as in the case of foreign automakers with domestic subsidiaries, companies follow rules from the Treasury to calculate the transaction value of goods going across the border.
• 24:34
SPEAKER_01: The rules rely on a principle that transactions be valued as if two unrelated entities were involved.
• 24:43
SPEAKER_01: For vehicles imported from outside of Canada and Mexico, the automakers who are the importers will be paying the government 25% of the total transaction value.
• 24:55
SPEAKER_01: For imports from Canada and Mexico, which are captured by the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement.
• 25:02
  SPEAKER_01: I know you've heard about that.
• 25:03
SPEAKER_01: Automakers will be given the opportunity to certify their U.S.
• 25:06
SPEAKER_01: content and systems, will be implemented such as that 25% tariff.
• 25:12
SPEAKER_01: It will only apply to the value of their non-U.S.
• 25:16
SPEAKER_01: content, according to Trump's March 26th executive offer.
• 25:27
SPEAKER_01: That's why I said to you about these guesses as to how much the price of a car is going to go up.
• 25:33
  SPEAKER_01: 2.8%, 5%, 11 or 12%.
• 25:37
  SPEAKER_01: Not the 25%.
• 25:38
SPEAKER_01: Because cars aren't made like they used to from our era.
• 25:43
SPEAKER_01: All of the stuff was wasn't produced here in the United States.
• 25:46
SPEAKER_01: Even cars that are actually assembled here in the United States, they get glass for it's uh really just assemblies.
• 25:55
  SPEAKER_01: That's correct.
• 25:56
SPEAKER_01: Uh actually there's only one, the Toyota Corolla, which I'm driving out there, is built in Mississippi and the panels, the body panels, are actually stamped at that assembly facility.
• 26:11
SPEAKER_01: That's the only one that I know of.
• 26:14
SPEAKER_01: Because usually the the assembl the uh body panels are stamped somewhere else, and then they get sent to the assembly.
• 26:20
SPEAKER_02: A different kind of factory to do all that.
• 26:22
SPEAKER_01: It's a bizarre labyrinth of stuff that you just you you never know really what's going on.
• 26:28
SPEAKER_01: I've got more of this to tell you about.
• 26:31
SPEAKER_01: Automotive news put that together, and I thought that kind of really tries to explain it because it's difficult to understand.
• 26:37
SPEAKER_02: Well, the good news is Jeff's got a camera going on the Hemi Hideout, so they got something to look at while we list talk about all this nastiness.
• 26:45
  SPEAKER_03: Nastiness, yes.
• 26:48
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
• 26:48
SPEAKER_03: We just wanted to, you know, give him a shot.
• 26:50
SPEAKER_01: You don't have that isolated camper that's focused in on you?
• 26:54
  SPEAKER_03: No.
• 26:54
  SPEAKER_03: I uh we didn't bring it.
• 26:56
  SPEAKER_03: We didn't bring it.
• 26:56
  SPEAKER_01: You forgot it?
• 26:57
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
• 26:57
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I left it at David's house.
• 26:59
  SPEAKER_01: David's house.
• 27:00
SPEAKER_01: Where he's using it for other things.
• 27:05
  SPEAKER_01: There is that.
• 27:06
SPEAKER_02: God's Let me write down what time it is, so we'll know what the FCC says.
• 27:12
SPEAKER_01: Well, at least it's not the FAA.
• 27:14
  SPEAKER_01: That's true.
• 27:15
  SPEAKER_01: True.
• 27:15
  SPEAKER_01: All right.
• 27:16
  SPEAKER_01: Or the CIA.
• 27:17
SPEAKER_01: I've got lots of papers here.
• 27:18
  SPEAKER_01: Have you noticed that?
• 27:19
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 27:19
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 27:21
SPEAKER_03: Every week you get more and more.
• 27:22
  SPEAKER_01: Well, I know.
• 27:23
SPEAKER_01: Are you recycling or what?
• 27:24
SPEAKER_01: Well, no, I wanted to do the car, the Hemi Hideout cars.
• 27:28
SPEAKER_01: And it was very stressful.
• 27:29
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
• 27:30
SPEAKER_01: I started working on this last Monday.
• 27:33
SPEAKER_01: Because not all of the cars show up on the Hemi Hide Out website.
• 27:36
  SPEAKER_03: Right.
• 27:36
SPEAKER_01: So Shelley had to come out here and take some pictures of the cars that are not in here today, but they're in the barn, in the other barn.
• 27:44
  SPEAKER_01: Oh.
• 27:45
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 27:46
  SPEAKER_01: It's been a process, I'm telling you.
• 27:48
  SPEAKER_01: Well, you did good.
• 27:49
SPEAKER_01: Well, you the show's not over yet.
• 27:52
  SPEAKER_02: Very interesting.
• 27:53
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 27:54
  SPEAKER_02: Don't mess it up.
• 27:54
  SPEAKER_02: I like it.
• 27:55
SPEAKER_01: Well, I've already done that.
• 27:56
SPEAKER_01: Coming up at the top.
• 27:56
