- 0:52SPEAKER_05: Thank you.
- 0:54SPEAKER_05: Thank you.
- 0:55SPEAKER_05: I actually think that was a bigger round of applause than when uh I have a co-host.
- 1:00SPEAKER_05: That's right.
- 1:00SPEAKER_05: Just me and you kids.
- 1:02SPEAKER_05: Well, not really.
- 1:03SPEAKER_05: Uh Peter Bowman is away vacationing somewhere, and uh therefore I will be anchoring here behind a desk on my own, but I'll be flanked by my two superstars of the fishing can of the show, uh Dean Taylor and uh Nickley.
- 1:18SPEAKER_05: Nickley V.
- 1:19SPEAKER_05: Nickley.
- 1:19SPEAKER_03: Nickley V.
- 1:21SPEAKER_03: First, I'm a full junk store manager, now I got a name change.
- 1:24SPEAKER_03: Like, what's going on here?
- 1:26SPEAKER_03: Hang on.
- 1:26SPEAKER_03: What's happening in this establishment?
- 1:28SPEAKER_05: The adjunct part's coming up real short here.
- 1:30SPEAKER_05: Don't, don't, don't go exactly.
- 1:33SPEAKER_05: You reminded me.
- 1:34SPEAKER_05: Uh welcome to the program.
- 1:36SPEAKER_05: Uh, this episode that was originally uh scheduled to be shot on location at the wonderful Timberwolf Lodge in the Algoma region on uh Nagagami Lake.
- 1:48SPEAKER_05: Nagagami, Nagagami, Nagagami, Nagagami, Nagami.
- 1:52SPEAKER_05: I'm gagging right now, just thinking of the fact that I mispronounced it again.
- 1:57SPEAKER_05: Well, we never got confirmation of how this is actually.
- 2:00SPEAKER_05: No.
- 2:00SPEAKER_03: Well, we decided that if it was tamogamy, it's gotta be negagami.
- 2:04SPEAKER_05: Well, who's yeah, but why would you why would you think that?
- 2:07SPEAKER_05: It's it's a total different like total different spelling.
- 2:10SPEAKER_05: Same same word origin.
- 2:13SPEAKER_05: Negagami, if you want.
- 2:15SPEAKER_05: If anybody knows for sure, let us know.
- 2:18SPEAKER_05: Because these two nitwits behind me, beside me, wherever they are on the screen right now, uh have been disagreeing with me on this for a month.
- 2:25SPEAKER_03: Well, I'll tell you, it's not negagami.
- 2:27SPEAKER_03: I like that.
- 2:28SPEAKER_03: Negagami?
- 2:29SPEAKER_03: No, I didn't say negagami.
- 2:32SPEAKER_03: No.
- 2:32SPEAKER_05: That's what you were saying.
- 2:33SPEAKER_05: No, yeah, negagamy.
- 2:36SPEAKER_01: That doesn't sound nice.
- 2:37SPEAKER_05: Negagamy is a beautiful word.
- 2:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we get a gag in it.
- 2:41SPEAKER_01: Like, that sounds great.
- 2:43SPEAKER_05: I don't like that.
- 2:47SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 2:48SPEAKER_05: Anyways, well, let us know.
- 2:50SPEAKER_05: There's more intelligent people out there than in this room right now, I guarantee you, and you'll let us know.
- 2:54SPEAKER_05: Look it up.
- 2:55SPEAKER_05: It's in the uh Algoma region, north uh northwestern, kind of northeast, north central Ontario, not east, central.
- 3:03SPEAKER_05: Anyways, we were supposed to do it from there, but we ran into some issues with timing, and we're gonna talk about that on the show today.
- 3:11SPEAKER_05: It was just the three of us.
- 3:13SPEAKER_05: Uh, Mr.
- 3:14SPEAKER_05: Bowman was not available for that shoot.
- 3:17SPEAKER_05: And um, I kind of painted us the three of us into a corner, which is not a good thing when you're shooting a fishing show in a short little window, but regardless, we'll talk about that in a minute.
- 3:30SPEAKER_05: First, I wanted to uh, and by the way, that's near Hornpaint, Ontario, if you're looking for those of you right now trying to Google that.
- 3:38SPEAKER_05: We had an interesting experience, not only there, but also getting there.
- 3:42SPEAKER_05: I want to talk about that with the guys as well.
- 3:44SPEAKER_05: Uh, but first, let's go.
- 3:45SPEAKER_05: You mentioned the adjunct uh store manager.
- 3:48SPEAKER_05: Well, uh, let's uh go to the adjunct store manager right now.
- 3:52SPEAKER_05: There's no more junk, baby.
- 3:53SPEAKER_03: There's no more junk, more junkless.
- 3:55SPEAKER_03: We're we're up and running.
- 3:57SPEAKER_03: We are totally up and running.
- 3:59SPEAKER_03: All of the new species hoodies.
- 4:01SPEAKER_03: God, by the time this airs, they've been out for a little bit.
- 4:04SPEAKER_03: Where the hell yeah! Where's this shirt?
- 4:06SPEAKER_03: That shirt is still in development.
- 4:08SPEAKER_03: What do you mean it's in development?
- 4:10SPEAKER_03: You stole that from a box that you shouldn't.
- 4:13SPEAKER_05: How can it be in development?
- 4:14SPEAKER_05: I'm wearing it.
- 4:15SPEAKER_05: Of course, this is for all of you folks out there who, and by the way, they're I think that's just your body hair.
- 4:19SPEAKER_03: I think you've shaved it in that.
- 4:20SPEAKER_03: I think you're trying to play with me.
- 4:22SPEAKER_03: I think you took a little bit of a razor this morning.
- 4:24SPEAKER_03: And you you painted with some white and black painting.
- 4:27SPEAKER_03: I like this.
- 4:28SPEAKER_05: I even like it better on.
- 4:29SPEAKER_03: And uh, you look you look good in it.
- 4:32SPEAKER_05: Anyone who has a well, first of all, anybody who's great, it's great shirt.
- 4:38SPEAKER_05: Let's just start with that comment.
- 4:41SPEAKER_05: A walleye is not a pickerel.
- 4:44SPEAKER_05: I feel like you just upset a lot of people.
- 4:47SPEAKER_05: A walleye, I want everybody all in unison to say that.
- 4:52SPEAKER_05: A walleye is not a pickerel.
- 4:56SPEAKER_05: Except when it's a pike, because a true pickerel is actually a pike.
- 5:04SPEAKER_05: Right?
- 5:05SPEAKER_05: Family, chain pickerel, they call it.
- 5:08SPEAKER_05: And I don't know how that started, but it is definitely I'm gonna say a Canadian thing, but more I think it's an Ontario thing, because I don't think they call it a pickerel in other provinces.
- 5:21SPEAKER_05: But here in Ontario, it seems like 90% of anglers call it a pickerel.
- 5:27SPEAKER_05: And it's not, it's a wall eye.
- 5:31unknown: Okay.
- 5:31SPEAKER_05: So we thought yeah, we thought we'd make up a nice shirt.
- 5:34SPEAKER_05: Uh, for those of you who have friends that uh will not conform and call it call the spade the spade, that you need to buy one of these shirts and wear it.
- 5:44SPEAKER_05: Better yet, buy a shirt for that fair friend so that he can wear it and see himself and remind himself that a walleye is not a pick roll because it's actually a pipe.
- 5:54SPEAKER_05: There you go.
- 5:56SPEAKER_05: Uh but it apparently uh store manager, it is not available right now.
- 6:00SPEAKER_05: It's just not yet.
- 6:01SPEAKER_05: Very soon.
- 6:02SPEAKER_05: All right, it's it's uh it's coming.
- 6:04SPEAKER_05: Coming to a store near you soon.
- 6:05SPEAKER_05: How's that?
- 6:06SPEAKER_05: Yeah, coming to a website near you.
- 6:08SPEAKER_05: However, all those other little beauties are on the screen behind me.
- 6:12SPEAKER_05: Except for the Muskie.
- 6:14SPEAKER_03: Well, we had some we had some issues with the Muskie.
- 6:17SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 6:18SPEAKER_03: Um correction, you had some issues with the final rendition of the Muskie once push came to shove.
- 6:23SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 6:23SPEAKER_03: The artwork wasn't quite matching the printout.
- 6:26SPEAKER_03: I didn't like what they did with it.
- 6:28SPEAKER_03: And so we just we sent that one back to the drawing board alongside the pike show.
- 6:32SPEAKER_03: All of these other before.
- 6:34SPEAKER_03: Oh god, are they ever nice?
- 6:35SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna say I think the the gator, the the pike hoodie, might be the nicest one now that we sell.
- 6:41SPEAKER_03: Just the intricacy on the embroidery.
- 6:43SPEAKER_03: It's all done in Ontario, it's all great work.
- 6:46SPEAKER_03: What's your favorite?
- 6:47SPEAKER_03: Man, I like the pike.
- 6:48SPEAKER_01: I'm on board.
- 6:49SPEAKER_01: It's the most detailed by far.
- 6:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and the small mouth.
- 6:52SPEAKER_03: How about the large mouth?
- 6:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah, the large mouth, you'll all of them.
- 6:55SPEAKER_03: All of them.
- 6:55SPEAKER_03: They they redid all of them.
- 6:58SPEAKER_05: Unbelievable.
- 6:59SPEAKER_05: Beautiful job.
- 7:00SPEAKER_05: Congratulations to the focus uh the focus, the folks at Campus Crew.
- 7:05SPEAKER_05: My uh mouth's not working very well today.
- 7:07SPEAKER_05: Gotta get these things looked at these keep coming off.
- 7:10SPEAKER_05: I don't understand it.
- 7:12SPEAKER_05: Uh we know about the store.
- 7:15SPEAKER_03: Shout out to the people at Campus Crew.
- 7:17SPEAKER_05: Campus Crew, Tim and the gang doing a wonderful job.
- 7:19SPEAKER_03: Short of the store, a little update.
- 7:21SPEAKER_03: Maybe you know, maybe you haven't.
- 7:23SPEAKER_03: We uh got a lot of feedback in recent years about shipping costs.
- 7:28SPEAKER_03: Obviously, we ran the promotion for over$100.
- 7:31SPEAKER_03: You'll get free shipping.
- 7:32SPEAKER_03: For a year.
- 7:32SPEAKER_03: We did that for a year or two.
- 7:34SPEAKER_03: And you know, it's it's yeah, I get that asking you guys to spend$100 maybe a bit of a big buy.
- 7:39SPEAKER_03: So we done we done changed something.
- 7:42SPEAKER_03: We have added in a new shipping partner who admittedly is it's gonna take a lot longer to get to you.
- 7:48SPEAKER_03: However, it's about a tenth of the price.
- 7:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and so if when you go to checkout, if you can use chit chats, I highly recommend it.
- 7:57SPEAKER_03: It's very cheap.
- 7:59SPEAKER_03: And when you say a lot longer, what are we talking about?
- 8:02SPEAKER_03: Well, Canada Post says two to three days, and Kit Kat Chit Chats, sorry, not KitKats, Chit Chats, you're probably looking at closer to a week.
- 8:10SPEAKER_03: Okay, that's not that's not too bad.
- 8:12SPEAKER_03: That's not the end of the world.
- 8:13SPEAKER_03: Considering you're looking at a tenth of the cost.
- 8:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's like instead of like$30, it's like six.
- 8:20SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 8:20SPEAKER_03: That's pretty good.
- 8:21SPEAKER_03: And so are people are people uh uh gravitating towards that?
- 8:25SPEAKER_03: I think so.
- 8:25SPEAKER_03: So far.
- 8:26SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 8:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think so far um that you guys have noticed it.
- 8:29SPEAKER_03: And so let us know.
- 8:30SPEAKER_03: I mean, mind you, this is a new thing we've implemented.
- 8:32SPEAKER_03: If you're seeing bugs that we're not seeing or seeing stuff that write in uh shop at fishingcanada.com.
- 8:40SPEAKER_03: We'll be able to uh get back to you and make sure that you know if you have any problems in checkout or with your cart or anything else in the store, fret not, we will fix it.
- 8:50SPEAKER_05: Okie dokie.
- 8:51SPEAKER_05: I love it, love love the look of that.
- 8:53SPEAKER_05: All right, moving on.
- 8:54SPEAKER_05: Listener feedback, gentlemen.
- 8:57SPEAKER_05: Listener feedback.
- 8:58SPEAKER_05: This I love this.
- 8:59SPEAKER_05: This is a great one.
- 9:00SPEAKER_05: I love this.
- 9:01SPEAKER_05: Um, it says in response to it's this is in response to the video that we put out uh regarding uh the importance of fluorocarbon line uh during a mayfly hatch because of visibility.
- 9:14SPEAKER_05: Uh it's from Marshall uh Moriarty?
- 9:18SPEAKER_05: Moriarty?
- 9:19SPEAKER_05: I think that's Italian, isn't it?
- 9:20SPEAKER_05: Moriarty, Moriarty, maybe Moriarty.
- 9:23SPEAKER_05: Moriardi.
- 9:24SPEAKER_05: Morty.
- 9:25SPEAKER_05: There you go.
- 9:26SPEAKER_05: Do you have to be uh condescending like that?
- 9:28SPEAKER_05: Morttiardi.
- 9:29SPEAKER_05: I mean you're it's not very nice.
- 9:31SPEAKER_03: We're gonna call you a Mortardi, okay?
- 9:35SPEAKER_05: Uh it says uh laughing my ass out loud.
- 9:38SPEAKER_05: That's what that means, right?
- 9:39SPEAKER_05: L-M-A-O?
- 9:41SPEAKER_03: Laughing my well, out loud would require an L.
- 9:44SPEAKER_03: That'd be L M-A-O-L.
- 9:45SPEAKER_03: So L-M-A-O, laughing my ass off.
- 9:49SPEAKER_05: Nice, I like that.
- 9:50SPEAKER_05: Uh so uh uh L M A O is he says uh he, Marshall, I'm assuming Marshall's a he.
- 9:57SPEAKER_05: By the way, did we find out if Taylor, the winner of the Garmin uh no?
- 10:03SPEAKER_05: No news.
- 10:03SPEAKER_05: All right, um says uh the fish would have no idea what a fishing line was, whether it could be whether it can see it or not.
- 10:13SPEAKER_05: I mean, seriously, did they go now?
- 10:16SPEAKER_05: They being the fish, I'm assuming, uh, take lessons on what a fisherman is and how to avoid it.
- 10:23SPEAKER_05: LOL.
- 10:24SPEAKER_05: It's a fish.
- 10:25SPEAKER_05: It doesn't understand what a fishing line even is, not to mention what it does.
- 10:32SPEAKER_05: It's a fish.
- 10:34SPEAKER_05: You could literally catch it with a hooked piece of coat hanger, for God's sakes, and a piece of just about anything on the end.
- 10:44SPEAKER_05: I wish he was right.
- 10:45SPEAKER_05: I really wish he was right.
- 10:47SPEAKER_05: Wow, Marshall, thank you very much for setting us all straight on that.
- 10:53SPEAKER_05: Wow, okay, so out goes all of this uh high-tech stuff.
- 10:58SPEAKER_05: I'll make I'll make my next call to Yozuri.
- 11:00SPEAKER_05: Why we struggled at uh Timberwolves?
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 11:03SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that's exactly.
- 11:05SPEAKER_05: We were trying to use all that fine line and all that fancy gadgetry and technology.
- 11:10SPEAKER_03: Fine line, that that wonderful pink stuff from Yozuri.
- 11:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I'm gonna talk about that later.
- 11:16SPEAKER_03: You're gonna talk about that later.
- 11:17SPEAKER_05: Well, I was, but now Marshall says, Are you kidding me?
- 11:19SPEAKER_03: Well, that's why he's discrediting your whole worldview right now.
- 11:24SPEAKER_05: I would like to get Marshall to give us a little more detail, though.
- 11:28SPEAKER_03: Like, is Marshall Well, he could be catch fishing for catfish in the creek.
- 11:32SPEAKER_05: I don't care where it is.
- 11:33SPEAKER_05: Uh, is Marshall an avid angler, do you think, or is Marshall just one of those passive uh you know, wannabe anglers and and and and maybe has never even fished?
- 11:48SPEAKER_05: Is that even see?
- 11:50SPEAKER_05: I gotta say that.
- 11:51SPEAKER_05: And I sorry, Marshall, but you didn't give us enough detail here on your fishing background, but I gotta say you do not fish a whole lot, and I don't want to, you know, sound rude or anything, uh, because you're now if there are people listening to this, watching this, that maybe are novice anglers, they may think that you're right.
- 12:13SPEAKER_05: And I just want to set the record straight.
- 12:16SPEAKER_05: You are not right, you cannot catch fish uh by using a bent coat hanger and just about anything uh on the end of it, right?
- 12:27SPEAKER_05: Just so we have that straight.
- 12:28SPEAKER_05: We don't want to mislead anybody, just like we don't want to mislead people when we say that uh by using a highly invisible line or low viz line, as it's referred to, uh, we'll up your chances to catch fish.
- 12:44SPEAKER_05: We believe we believe due to experience underwater and having spent an agonizingly large number of days, hours, years experimenting, we believe that your chances go up tenfold the less visibility that you allow fish in the presentation.
- 13:13SPEAKER_05: We believe that because we've seen it.
- 13:15SPEAKER_05: We do it.
- 13:16SPEAKER_05: So that's why I say, like, had this been coming from you know, high profile uh an accredited angler, I'd say, oh my god.
- 13:27SPEAKER_05: You know, I need to get the coat.
- 13:29SPEAKER_05: Somebody give me a coat hanger.
- 13:31SPEAKER_05: But I just don't want to give anybody out there listening to this a whole lot of credence.
- 13:38SPEAKER_05: It's a fun little piece, and it was great, and we got our laugh out of it.
- 13:41SPEAKER_05: Maybe that's all Marshall really wanted.
- 13:44SPEAKER_03: Um I don't think Marshall's that silly being exactly, but he does have a good point.
- 13:49SPEAKER_03: Technically speaking, you could you could put a piece of sirloin on the end of a barbed coat hanger and you dangle it long enough off the end of a dock, you might be able to get something.
- 14:00SPEAKER_03: I think what I the the message I take from the feedback is to not overcomplicate it.
- 14:06SPEAKER_03: Because when you overcomplicate things, you get in your head and you start lacking confidence.
- 14:10SPEAKER_03: And there might be a nugget of truth to that.
- 14:14SPEAKER_01: Dean, um I'm not on Team Marshall here.
- 14:17SPEAKER_01: I think uh I don't and I don't think he was joking either.
- 14:21SPEAKER_01: I think this was not the case, then I think this is a serious comment just by my investigation on Facebook.
- 14:27SPEAKER_01: Um I think he's passionate about this, and I would love to see uh the evidence.
- 14:31SPEAKER_01: But I do know guys who have credibility who, like Nick said, very much don't like complicating things.
- 14:39SPEAKER_01: They go straight prey to a heavy jig head and a worm, and they leave their motor on and sit over fish and they catch fish.
- 14:46SPEAKER_01: So I know.
- 14:47SPEAKER_01: I mean that's worrisome for me.
- 14:49SPEAKER_03: I watched a guy the other day catch like a 10-pound bass in Florida putting some donut on the end of his line.
- 14:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah, sometimes they do like, hey, I can we go to where those fish are?
- 15:02SPEAKER_03: I like them like that.
- 15:03SPEAKER_05: Yeah, but sometimes when I go to Vegas, sometimes I hit a jackpot.
- 15:10SPEAKER_05: Sometimes.
- 15:12SPEAKER_05: Not the majority of times.
- 15:14SPEAKER_05: This is one of those cases.
- 15:15SPEAKER_05: I think you can cite all sorts of uh little stories about donuts and uh what'd you say, a chunk of meat off the end of the dock.
- 15:22SPEAKER_05: And yeah, I'm sure it's happened, but day in and day out day in and day out, you have to up the odds.
- 15:33SPEAKER_05: And in this case, in fishing, you have to be, in my opinion, you have to be very stealthy in your presentation.
- 15:40SPEAKER_05: In other words, quiet, not the motor running, not clanging uh lids on the lockers in the boat, up and down, uh, not that you know your your your music cranked up loud on the stereo on your boom box, which is vibrating all over the boat, which is vibrating all through the water.
- 15:57SPEAKER_05: You can't be doing that if you want to up your odds in catching a fish.
- 16:01SPEAKER_05: And it's just common sense.
- 16:04SPEAKER_05: Hunters.
- 16:05SPEAKER_05: How about hunters?
- 16:06SPEAKER_05: Hunters are probably well, they're hunters.
- 16:08SPEAKER_05: They're they that's what they do, they hunt.
- 16:11SPEAKER_05: When was the last time you saw a hunter out in whether whether he was hunting, but it doesn't matter what he was hunting, that's got music roaring, he's got you know firecrackers going off, he's laughing, he's got cowbells ringing.
- 16:26SPEAKER_01: Who would go out hunting doing that?
- 16:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but there is the kind of the same thing that happens in hunting where you'll get the guy who has like the scent-controlled underwear and he's like dead quiet and he doesn't kill anything, and then there's an old guy in a plaid shirt who's like smokes like a cigarette and he shoots a deer every year.
- 16:45SPEAKER_01: So it's like it's kind of like the same type of guy, I think.
- 16:48SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 16:49SPEAKER_05: All right, all right.
- 16:50SPEAKER_05: I guess there's just a lucky guy.
- 16:52SPEAKER_05: There's a yin dairy yang, I suppose.
- 16:54SPEAKER_05: Uh, anyways, I am not as proficient an angler as all of you in this room and all of you watching this.
- 17:02SPEAKER_05: So for me, I like to at least uh give myself a fair chance, and I will continue being very stealthy, I will downsize all of my baits, I will use the thinnest, most invisible line known to man, and I will just uh uh go about my business.
- 17:24SPEAKER_05: But I can't do it clanging and banging and then doing all this stuff and using a meat hook and no, I will not participate in that.
- 17:32SPEAKER_05: How's that?
- 17:33SPEAKER_05: So, anyway, I can I can answer that question.
- 17:36SPEAKER_05: It doesn't matter.
- 17:38SPEAKER_05: It did kind of stir a discussion here, but I would like to hear from Marshall, if you're listening.
- 17:43SPEAKER_05: Get back to us, let us know.
- 17:44SPEAKER_05: I'd like to know how much you do fish and and exactly what you do for a fishing line.
- 17:51SPEAKER_05: If you would.
- 17:53SPEAKER_05: Uh conservation corner.
- 17:54SPEAKER_05: Speaking of stealthy, quiet predators, there's one right there.
- 18:00SPEAKER_05: The grass carp.
- 18:02SPEAKER_05: And we know that we can do our part by uh educating ourselves, being armed with all the information we need, uh, so that next time you're out in the field, out in the water, not in the field, but in the field if you know what I mean, uh, you'll be able to identify this creditor.
- 18:16SPEAKER_05: And a place to get all that info and knowledge is at invasivecarp.ca, invasivecarp.ca, and they'll tell you what to do and uh how to go about your business.
- 18:27SPEAKER_05: In the news brought to you by our good friends at JB, uh Cyclamarine, Ontario's largest princecraft mercury package boat dealer, period.
- 18:38SPEAKER_05: No questions asked.
- 18:40SPEAKER_05: And if you're looking for a fully rigged boat, whether it be a small tiller handle or a big tritune, uh JB is the place to go.
- 18:50SPEAKER_05: That's J JBCle.com if you're going on the internet to check them out.
- 18:56SPEAKER_05: Um this news story rare contagious cancer found in fish from Quebec and U.S.
- 19:04SPEAKER_05: lakes.
- 19:05SPEAKER_05: Mr.
- 19:05SPEAKER_05: Taylor, please.
- 19:06SPEAKER_01: We actually talked about this.
- 19:08SPEAKER_01: Uh Stephen Cook was on a few weeks ago, and we were talking about blue walleye, I think, and we were talking uh Pete brought up the what do they call it, melanoma in bass, where they get like the black spots.
- 19:20SPEAKER_01: And uh we at least I was under the assumption before that podcast that that was just like a harmless discoloration.
- 19:28SPEAKER_01: But Stephen Cook corrected us on that podcast that no, it's actually cancer, um, and it's one of the only spreadable versions.
- 19:35SPEAKER_01: So this isn't a new thing.
- 19:37SPEAKER_01: Um, smallmouth uh peat, I think I think you've caught a couple in Lake Ontario that have had the same thing.
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: Um, but it wasn't very common.
- 19:44SPEAKER_01: Um, in this case, that's been being reported that almost every brown bullhead catfish um in this lake um had it, which was Lake Memph Memphog.
- 20:01SPEAKER_05: Memphyrmagog.
- 20:02SPEAKER_05: Been there probably a dozen times in wonderful part of Quebec.
- 20:06SPEAKER_01: And it borders Vermont.
- 20:07SPEAKER_05: Yes, it does.
- 20:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:08SPEAKER_01: So this is the first time where they've it's like uh it's so widespread that every spee or every fish in the lake has it of this species.
- 20:17SPEAKER_01: Um so they're trying to determine if it's uh you know it comes from spawning, if it can hop from species to species, because it seems to be spreadable just by contact, so that's why spawning would make sense.
- 20:28SPEAKER_01: But a lot of fish eat bullhead.
- 20:31SPEAKER_01: Um so there was a lot of concern when this first came out trying to figure out exactly how it started and how it can be stopped.
- 20:38SPEAKER_05: It's funny because I don't recall uh on any of my experiences on Memphis Bagog, including I think three tournaments as well as just shoots.
- 20:49SPEAKER_05: I don't think I ever saw any of it.
- 20:51SPEAKER_05: You know, certainly wasn't prevalent.
- 20:53SPEAKER_05: It if I did see it, it was so minor that nobody even made any uh anything about it.
- 20:58SPEAKER_05: But uh it's funny that they can I actually now isolate a lake where it seems to be widespread.
- 21:04SPEAKER_05: And that makes sense that the fish are spreading it to themselves, but you know, they've got a fairly short lifespan as opposed to humans, you know.
- 21:14SPEAKER_05: It could be in that area, I I don't know exactly what it would be, but smallmouth bass maybe are seven to eight, you know, certainly not beyond ten years.
- 21:23SPEAKER_05: So if if they were spreading it, they're like it would be highly unlikely that it would be an ongoing thing now, right?
- 21:32SPEAKER_01: Because generations, yeah, as long as they're not being eaten and it's spreading from other species.
- 21:36SPEAKER_05: Now Dr.
- 21:37SPEAKER_05: Cook did say that it was it posed no harm to humans, though, right?
- 21:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no harm to humans, and he actually seemed to suggest that it it probably doesn't cause a whole lot of at least immediate harm to the fish.
- 21:48SPEAKER_01: They may live a shorter life if they're normally a long living fish, but it's not like you're not gonna see like a die off of like hundreds and hundreds of fish because of it.
- 21:57SPEAKER_01: I think um it's a sign that they're unhealthy.
- 21:59SPEAKER_01: It's It's a form of skin cancer, so it's not like um they're dying like instantly from it, but I think they're they're they're they're trying to see how they can contain it.
- 22:10SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 22:11SPEAKER_05: Uh wonderful body of water, by the way.
- 22:13SPEAKER_05: Anybody out there in the uh area, um I mean and haven't been on this lake, it is just the most picturesque, and it's a wonderful fishery, or certainly was.
- 22:24SPEAKER_05: I haven't been on it for about 15 years, but uh great fishery back then and just a nice community.
- 22:31SPEAKER_05: It's it's very uh charming.
- 22:33SPEAKER_05: It's you know your typical um you know French Canadian historically you know built little town.
- 22:41SPEAKER_05: Uh it's got the old monastery, and it oh, it's just a great place to hang out.
- 22:46SPEAKER_05: And like I said, great fishery.
- 22:48SPEAKER_05: I learned one of those, you know, I keep saying that um that you should learn something every time you go out fishing.
- 22:57SPEAKER_05: We're gonna talk about that in a few minutes here um with our experience on uh megogamy, I believe is pretty megagamy.
- 23:09SPEAKER_05: All right, I'll get it right one day if I must.
- 23:13SPEAKER_05: Um but on this one, it was during a tournament.
- 23:16SPEAKER_05: I was fishing an American tournament that was taking place on that lake, and it was a draw uh tournament, and I had a partner from the U.S.
- 23:26SPEAKER_05: that I was fishing with, and he had never fished the lake before.
- 23:29SPEAKER_05: He didn't have a whole lot of time pre-fishing.
- 23:32SPEAKER_05: I had spent, I think, like 10 days pre-fishing it, and the fish that I found were all inside these big uh islands of bull rushes, and and and they were standing up four feet, fairly tall and pretty thick.
- 23:48SPEAKER_05: So it was really difficult uh for me to fish them the traditional way of fishing them without spooking them because I had to get in tight and and drop jigs wherever I could, doing okay, but but it was really tough.
- 24:03SPEAKER_05: So I I took this guy I I had drawn, and uh he was the non-boater in this case, so he was on my boat, which kind of gives you a little bit of leeway as to the areas that you're gonna fish.
- 24:15SPEAKER_05: We discussed it.
- 24:15SPEAKER_05: I told him what what I was fishing.
- 24:17SPEAKER_05: He says, Well, I I'd never done anything like that before, but that sounds like fun.
- 24:22SPEAKER_05: So, anyway, so we head out, go down, go down to these reed uh reed patches, and so I'm you know taking us right up to the patch with the electric motor because I'm gonna dunk like where I learned to do this stuff, and as we're heading in, he's at the back of the boat.
- 24:42SPEAKER_05: I hear this over my head.
- 24:45SPEAKER_05: He's casting spinnerbaits into the reeds from about 30 feet out.
- 24:52SPEAKER_05: I look over, what in the hell are you doing?
- 24:54SPEAKER_05: Well, I'm I'm fishing them bass you talk to me about.
- 24:58SPEAKER_05: And before I had a chance to call him an absolute fool, he sets the hook on his first fish.
- 25:04SPEAKER_05: Bottom line, make a long story short, I learned that you can, in fact, throw spinner baits into these reed patches.
- 25:12SPEAKER_05: And the secret was using a very small, not small uh but but shallow uh double Colorado blade, as opposed to the normal willow leaf blades that we used to throw all the time.
- 25:26SPEAKER_05: And if you if you throw it in, and instead of putting your rod tip up when you're reeling it out of these reeds, which you get hung up every foot, what you do is keep your rod tip down, your rod tip in the water and reel the man, because then your Colorado blades take your your uh spinnerbait up to where it hits the first reed and just runs over it, back down in, and Colorado blade does its thing and then up and without any hangups.
- 25:53SPEAKER_05: It was like a miracle, it was a life-altering experience for me.
- 25:59SPEAKER_05: And after he had about the first half a dozen fish in the boat, I started doing the same thing, and I thought, okay, and I threw it in.
- 26:05SPEAKER_05: Sure's hell it works.
- 26:06SPEAKER_05: So just a little tip.
- 26:07SPEAKER_05: Colorado, very unusual little blade, short, stubby little blade.
- 26:12SPEAKER_05: And uh he had a whole box full of them.
- 26:14SPEAKER_05: I didn't have any, so he said, help yourself.
- 26:16SPEAKER_05: So I did, and it was great.
- 26:18SPEAKER_05: There you go.
- 26:19SPEAKER_05: But you would never think it, right?
- 26:20SPEAKER_05: Throwing, throwing into the reeds, like what you would want to do, you want to keep that rod tip up because you want your bait to come up straight up, right?
- 26:27SPEAKER_05: No, no, you want to put your rod tip down.
- 26:30SPEAKER_05: Isn't that bizarre?
- 26:32SPEAKER_05: So, little tip for you.
- 26:34SPEAKER_05: There you go.
- 26:35SPEAKER_05: Uh, anyways, yeah.
- 26:37SPEAKER_05: So is there any uh so there's no problem, certainly, to human consumption?
- 26:42SPEAKER_05: No, it doesn't seem to be.
- 26:43SPEAKER_01: I think they've said, you know, probably don't eat them.
- 26:46SPEAKER_01: I don't know how many.
- 26:47SPEAKER_03: I mean, I feel like it's common sense at some point.
- 26:49SPEAKER_03: Well, yeah, yeah, I I agree with that.
- 26:51SPEAKER_03: Like chronic wasting disease.
- 26:52SPEAKER_03: I'm not gonna eat a deer that looks like a zombie.
- 26:54SPEAKER_03: I'm not gonna eat a fish with skin cancer.
- 26:58SPEAKER_03: Like, like, you know, food food safety.
- 27:00SPEAKER_03: Let's all be safe, folks.
- 27:01SPEAKER_05: Food safety.
- 27:02SPEAKER_05: That makes sense, buddy.
- 27:03SPEAKER_05: Makes sense.
- 27:04SPEAKER_05: Anyways, a wonderful story.
- 27:05SPEAKER_05: If you want to know more about that, uh, you can certainly do uh do so by going to fishingcanada.com.
- 27:10SPEAKER_05: The whole story is there, it's kind of lengthy.
- 27:12SPEAKER_05: Uh, it's a good read, and uh it will be worth your time for sure.
- 27:19SPEAKER_05: Okie dokie, fan question of the week comes from Charlie Harman via email.
- 27:26SPEAKER_05: So this is qualifying, right?
- 27:28SPEAKER_05: No, it's not.
- 27:29SPEAKER_05: Why not?
- 27:29SPEAKER_05: YouTube.
- 27:32SPEAKER_05: I get so confused.
- 27:33SPEAKER_03: Well, I know there's a lot of options.
- 27:35SPEAKER_03: That's why am I thinking there's too much to remember?
- 27:38SPEAKER_05: All right, here we go, Charlie.
- 27:39SPEAKER_05: Sorry, I would have given it to you without even reading the question.
- 27:41SPEAKER_05: Was these two goons?
- 27:42SPEAKER_05: Yeah, no, not so much.
- 27:44SPEAKER_05: It says, Hey guys, honest question.
- 27:46SPEAKER_05: If you had no sponsors, hmm, let me think about that.
- 27:51SPEAKER_05: No sponsors.
- 27:53SPEAKER_05: Okay, I probably would not be here right now, but that's besides the point.
- 27:57SPEAKER_05: If you had no sponsors, uh, would you fish almost exclusively with live bait?
- 28:02SPEAKER_05: Well, it's interesting you say that because today's show is going to be all about that coming up here in a minute.
- 28:08SPEAKER_05: Um, it's hard to deny how effective it is, yet you rarely hear freshwater anglers or fishing personalities talk about it anymore.
- 28:16SPEAKER_05: Meanwhile, saltwater anglers seem to have no problem admitting that live bait is often the best option.
- 28:23SPEAKER_05: Has freshwater fishing become too focused on selling lures, or is there more to it than that?
- 28:33SPEAKER_05: Well, uh, Charlie, let me uh start off by saying I still believe that given options, if you had to pick one bait and one bait only, and it was a matter of survival, probably live bait.
- 28:56SPEAKER_05: Freshwater, salt water, uh, in the air, underground, it don't matter.
- 29:00SPEAKER_05: Live is live.
- 29:02SPEAKER_05: And if you can't fool a fish into biting a hook that's got live bait on it, unless, of course, you subscribe to the notion of our um letter of the week there, that you can throw anything at them and they'll bite on a on a bent uh coat hanger.
- 29:19SPEAKER_05: Let's throw that out the window for just a moment.
- 29:21SPEAKER_05: But if you're life dependent on it, I would probably say that live bait would still rule without any question.
- 29:31SPEAKER_05: And no, we don't use live bait a lot on the show for a couple of reasons, although we did on this particular episode that we're gonna highlight for you here in a minute.
- 29:43SPEAKER_05: Um because it's just not as much fun.
- 29:48SPEAKER_05: Let's let's break it right down to that.
- 29:50SPEAKER_05: It's just not as much fun as being able to throw a bait out there, knowing how the bait uh performs, how it presents itself, what you can do as an angler to make it perform better.
- 30:02SPEAKER_05: Because uh artificial baits, although all the manufacturers will tell you that all you have to do is tie it on your line, throw it in water, and get ready because they're gonna jump at it.
- 30:13SPEAKER_05: No, you still it requires the angler to make the magic.
- 30:19SPEAKER_05: Live bait doesn't, you know, you can throw on a minnow, throw it down there, and it does its thing, and boom.
- 30:24SPEAKER_05: A worm, same thing.
- 30:26SPEAKER_05: Live bait really doesn't require a whole lot of expertise from the guy at the other end of the rod.
- 30:36SPEAKER_05: Artificial baits, you're still part of the action.
- 30:39SPEAKER_05: You know, I equate it to a four-speed uh performance car with a four or five-speed gearbox versus an automatic.
- 30:48SPEAKER_05: Right?
- 30:49SPEAKER_05: You need to shift those gears, like you're part of the car, you have to make it work.
- 30:54SPEAKER_05: That's what artificial baits are like to me.
- 30:57SPEAKER_05: Whereas live beta is like an automatic car.
- 30:59SPEAKER_05: You just put it in drive and sit back and enjoy the experience.
- 31:02SPEAKER_05: Well, live beta is very much that.
- 31:04SPEAKER_05: So that's why we don't use it because I don't find personally, and I think I we can pull these guys here today.
- 31:10SPEAKER_05: And if Mr.
- 31:11SPEAKER_05: Bowman was here as well, he would agree with me that it's just not unless it's life or death, it's just not that much.
- 31:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, when I'm out on my own, like no cameras, just out on the weekend.
- 31:23SPEAKER_01: I almost I never buy live bait or go get it.
- 31:26SPEAKER_01: Very unless I'm taking somebody out who I really maybe lower skill level that I really want to make sure they get some fish, and or if I'm fishing, I've been liking fishing bobbers lately.
- 31:36SPEAKER_01: I'll buy worms if I'm fishing bobbers.
- 31:38SPEAKER_05: You still do that?
- 31:38SPEAKER_01: I do I do that.
- 31:39SPEAKER_01: That's cool.
- 31:40SPEAKER_01: I I do that.
- 31:40SPEAKER_01: That's cool.
- 31:41SPEAKER_01: But uh, yeah, I'm I'm the same.
- 31:42SPEAKER_01: I I find it so much more satisfying and to the point where even like tying flies and modifying baits and just to really be involved with the whole process.
- 31:52SPEAKER_05: That's taking it to a whole other level that I just find I mean, it's it's a thrill.
- 31:58SPEAKER_01: But you do the equivalent with traditional stuff with traditional stuff.
- 32:01SPEAKER_05: But to me, that that person who spends hours and hours agonizing over you know this one hair that has to go to the left instead of the right, and winding it around, and then cutting it just the right length, and then putting something in there to represent legs, and then tying that up and then fluffing it over, little schlack, and then back over here and putting a beat like that is that's unbelievable.
- 32:28SPEAKER_05: And then taking that that product, that byproduct of your hard work, taking it out and throwing it out there and catching a fish with it.
- 32:36SPEAKER_05: Like, is there anything better than that?
- 32:38SPEAKER_01: For me, that's the most satisfying.
- 32:40SPEAKER_01: Oh, like I'll spend all day with a fly that I tied, even though I know I'm kind of forcing it on the day I'm out, just because I want to get that one hit with it and really see that it worked.
- 32:50SPEAKER_01: So I'm definitely that way.
- 32:52SPEAKER_05: Now, there are tires who do it for different reasons.
- 32:55SPEAKER_05: I I I've got a very good friend of mine uh who for years he was heavily invested in tying, and most of his flies never met water.
- 33:05SPEAKER_05: He just did it because he loved the art.
- 33:07SPEAKER_05: Yeah, right.
- 33:08SPEAKER_05: But to to to do that, to be able to create a bait yourself with your own hands and catch a fish with it, man, there's just nothing, nothing like it for sure, you know.
- 33:22SPEAKER_05: But having all that, you know, in the bank, I do have to once again go back to live bait.
- 33:29SPEAKER_05: I think live bait is really useful um for young anglers, you know, especially the novice first timers coming into the game of fishing.
- 33:41SPEAKER_05: I think there's nothing better than than live bait for them.
- 33:44SPEAKER_05: And that could be a worm, it could be a minnow, it can be, you know, whatever you're whatever you've got, leeches, although kids generally don't really like putting leeches on.
- 33:53SPEAKER_05: But other than that, if it's life or death, which would be survival, or in our case, you have a window and you have to get a fishing show shot.
- 34:08SPEAKER_05: Um artificial baits are just so much more satisfying.
- 34:13SPEAKER_05: There's no question about it, you know, stuff throwing a topwater bait out and getting a hit is is like it's orgasmic, is the only way I can describe it.
- 34:22SPEAKER_05: It's just magic.
- 34:24SPEAKER_05: So uh we don't show a lot of live bait being used on the program as a rule, not because we're paid not to, although I do have a quick story, as I usually do.
- 34:39SPEAKER_05: Uh, years ago, I'm talking a hundred years ago, we had a big sponsorship with a very large distributor/slash manufacturer of hard baits.
- 34:52SPEAKER_05: At the time it was the brand name, I won't mention it.
- 34:56SPEAKER_05: Um and I don't remember exactly why, but we that season we did shoot an episode with live bait.
- 35:09SPEAKER_05: A couple of years later, I was at a trade show, uh um uh fishing uh iCast, the the fishing trade show, and the vice president of operations was there at this sponsor's booth that I was there, and I was meeting all the media people and all that stuff.
- 35:30SPEAKER_05: And he came over and introduced himself to me, and he kind of, you know, he was very, very nice about it.
- 35:35SPEAKER_05: He kind of drew me off to the side a little bit, and he said, Angelo, uh, I watched a program that you folks uh shot uh and he said shot for us.
- 35:47SPEAKER_05: I'll never forget that.
- 35:48SPEAKER_05: And I'm thinking, for you, how presumptuous I'd be.
- 35:51SPEAKER_05: Yeah, you give me a couple of bucks, but I didn't shoot it for you.
- 35:53SPEAKER_05: I shot it for the audience.
- 35:54SPEAKER_05: But, anyways, he says, I saw an episode that you shot for us there, and he told me where it was, you know, the location, the species we were after.
- 36:03SPEAKER_05: He says, and I I noticed um you were using live bait.
- 36:09SPEAKER_05: Hmm.
- 36:10SPEAKER_05: Still didn't dawn on me.
- 36:12SPEAKER_05: And he leans into me and he says, I got a little piece of advice for you.
- 36:17SPEAKER_05: When God starts sponsoring you, you use live bait.
- 36:21SPEAKER_05: Until then, you use our product.
- 36:23SPEAKER_05: And I'll ever forget that as long as I live.
- 36:26SPEAKER_05: But in this case, it's not the reason why we don't.
- 36:29SPEAKER_05: In this case, uh certainly for the last oh 20 years, uh when we've used live bait, it was because the moment called for it.
- 36:40SPEAKER_05: Otherwise, we use uh hard baits, soft baits, uh any type of bait that we can catch a fish.
- 36:46SPEAKER_05: Whatever is best for the application at that time.
- 36:49SPEAKER_05: So hopefully that answers the question.
- 36:51SPEAKER_05: I I I will agree with you that it certainly looks like, and maybe in some cases it is strictly uh money, but our currency in our business is you, the audience.
- 37:06SPEAKER_05: That's the currency that we deal with every day.
- 37:09SPEAKER_05: If we produce products that the audience uh enjoys, we usually find out about it and very quickly.
- 37:16SPEAKER_05: If we do things that the audience does not enjoy, and we find out about that too.
- 37:21SPEAKER_05: And the audience likes us to be playing around with product and and colors and sizes and presentations and different ways of catching fish, and that's why we do it the way we do it.
- 37:31SPEAKER_01: I am curious by the second part of his question there where he talks about salt water, yeah.
- 37:35SPEAKER_01: Because it is true, like even when we go striper fishing out east or something, there is no shame, like the all you fish is live bait or cut bait.
- 37:44SPEAKER_01: It's like for what like well, in like the actual saltwater stuff.
- 37:50SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's all live bait, cut bait, everything revolves around that.
- 37:54SPEAKER_01: There's very there seems to be, anyways, to me, like I know Yosuri has a saltwater line, but there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of experimentation or people wanting to get away from live bait.
- 38:05SPEAKER_01: It's not really about that, it seems.
- 38:07SPEAKER_05: Now, is it I could be wrong here.
- 38:10SPEAKER_05: I know there's gonna be a lot of folks yelling at me right now when I say this.
- 38:14SPEAKER_05: Is it because salt the saltwater fishery is more of a uh you know meat hunting industry?
- 38:21SPEAKER_01: That's what I had I was thinking too.
- 38:23SPEAKER_05: It's like you want to catch that red snapper, you want to boat that dolphin, you want to, you know what I mean?
- 38:28SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
- 38:28SPEAKER_05: And therefore, therefore, maybe you know, live live or or it's not live, obviously a chunk of mackerel is not live, but you know what I mean.
- 38:38SPEAKER_05: Uh although real sport fishermen, sail and bill fishing dudes, uh will tell you that you know there's nothing like artificials for that game, right?
- 38:49SPEAKER_05: So but I think anytime you're vertically jigging the ocean, you're you're putting fish in the boat.
- 38:53SPEAKER_05: You're taking those fish aren't there's no live release involved in that, right?
- 38:57SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
- 38:57SPEAKER_05: And I think that's important too.
- 38:59SPEAKER_05: Uh, if you go out to fill your uh bag for a shore lunch, then chances are you're probably gonna drop a minnow or or whatever live bait you can get your hands on to do that, right?
- 39:13SPEAKER_05: There's no sport involved, and that's the other thing that I didn't mention is to us it's more sporting, if you will, to use artificials.
- 39:25SPEAKER_05: It's because you got to select the right one, and it's gotta, you know, you gotta get it close to what the fish would likely go.
- 39:32SPEAKER_05: Like there's a lot of process, it's like hunting to me.
- 39:35SPEAKER_05: You know, the real hunt is the guy who parachutes out of a plane with only a knife in his mouth and he goes hunting for grizzly bear.
- 39:43SPEAKER_05: Now there's a hardcore hunter, right?
- 39:46SPEAKER_05: Obviously, that's just a bit of an exaggeration.
- 39:48SPEAKER_05: But using hard baits to me or soft baits, artificial baits, is exactly like that, right?
- 39:54SPEAKER_05: You're you're you're putting yourself out there.
- 39:57SPEAKER_05: And when you drop a minnow over the side, you're just uh unless you're a novice angler or a uh a young angler, um, you're just looking to fill a stringer.
- 40:06SPEAKER_03: Uh I'll I'll do you one better then.
- 40:08SPEAKER_03: Do you do you take the uh live bait in the same consideration as like spear or bow fishing?
- 40:15SPEAKER_03: Because then that takes its own level of set of skill and it's all its own thing, but again, all they're doing is that's strictly meat fishing.
- 40:22SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 40:23SPEAKER_03: So so is the you know, is it six one half dozen another, or do you have a distinction?
- 40:29SPEAKER_05: Oh, I cannot.
- 40:30SPEAKER_05: Well, you know the way I feel about that.
- 40:32SPEAKER_05: I mean that's probably why he threw it out there.
- 40:36SPEAKER_05: Um, no, it's not even close.
- 40:38SPEAKER_05: It's not even close to me, to me, and I know once again I'm gonna lose an audience member or two, but to me, bow fishing for carp, which is what we're talking, you're talking about, Nick.
- 40:52SPEAKER_05: Uh, to me, that's not there's not an element of a sport involved in that.
- 40:57SPEAKER_05: And certainly spear fishing, spawning fish, I mean that we can't even call it to me.
- 41:03SPEAKER_05: That's not even fishing.
- 41:04SPEAKER_05: In most cases, it's probably not even legal when it's happening.
- 41:10SPEAKER_05: So, no, no, don't no comparison at all.
- 41:12SPEAKER_05: Using a minnow or a worm does not compare to spear fishing or bow fishing, absolutely not.
- 41:18SPEAKER_05: Although I know there's uh folks out there who might disagree because they, you know, bow fishing for carp, especially in the spring, has become a big uh certainly more so prevalent down the south of the border than north, but we've seen it here, especially along uh the Great Lake shorelines, the northern shorelines of Lake Ontario, uh the St.
- 41:37SPEAKER_05: Lawrence River, early in the spring, you'll see bow hunters out there shooting carp.
- 41:43SPEAKER_05: For what sporting thrill, I have no idea.
- 41:48SPEAKER_05: But that's okay.
- 41:49SPEAKER_05: That's okay.
- 41:50SPEAKER_05: They're not you know breaking any rules or regulations.
- 41:54SPEAKER_05: Um it's just, I don't know, inhumane, maybe I don't know.
- 41:58SPEAKER_05: How's that?
- 41:59SPEAKER_05: Did I answer that for you?
- 42:00SPEAKER_05: Uh yeah, good enough.
- 42:02SPEAKER_05: All right.
- 42:03SPEAKER_05: Uh, anyways, uh, Charlie, thank you very much for that question.
- 42:07SPEAKER_05: Unfortunately, um, no, you're not eligible.
- 42:12SPEAKER_05: Not eligible again.
- 42:14SPEAKER_05: Are we ever gonna give away uh any goodies or money on this show?
- 42:19SPEAKER_05: No, we're done with that.
- 42:20SPEAKER_05: We're done.
- 42:20SPEAKER_03: No, we're done.
- 42:21SPEAKER_03: No more.
- 42:21SPEAKER_03: You know what?
- 42:22SPEAKER_03: That's it.
- 42:22SPEAKER_03: No YouTube, no email, no one.
- 42:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 42:25SPEAKER_03: Never.
- 42:27SPEAKER_03: I'm just kidding.
- 42:28SPEAKER_03: Leave a comment on YouTube and um, you know, Charlie.
- 42:32SPEAKER_03: You know, Charlie, if you took the same comment and put it on YouTube, that's all it would take.
- 42:36SPEAKER_03: I I could even s foresee a revision.
- 42:41SPEAKER_05: Is it harder in the world?
- 42:42SPEAKER_05: Like, like, like, is it harder to do to send a comment on YouTube than it is?
- 42:48SPEAKER_01: I think these are I I have a feeling these are people who just don't they don't have a YouTube channel, they don't they're not used to commenting things because I don't know why we get and the email ones are normally much more detailed and it's people who write in right.
- 43:02SPEAKER_03: Well, they they might be our OG listeners, yeah, probably right.
- 43:05SPEAKER_05: Like in other words, you think they're listening uh uh not on on uh YouTube, they're listening on Spotify or Apple or wherever else we're oh okay.
- 43:14SPEAKER_03: It would be nice to know where, you know, like if you guys are gonna email in, if you could let us know um where you're coming from, that'd be cool.
- 43:27SPEAKER_05: Can we do a little test?
- 43:28SPEAKER_05: Can somebody go into the countess's uh chambers there in the castle and see if it would be okay if we allowed email uh questions to participate?
- 43:42SPEAKER_03: Man, I just had to go get some money for some ads.
- 43:44SPEAKER_03: Okay, I I can't go back in there.
- 43:46SPEAKER_03: She's gonna like like put me in the gallows.
- 43:49SPEAKER_05: Dean, I think you probably out of all of us, you probably stand the best chance of getting approval on something like that.
- 43:55SPEAKER_05: Because I know she doesn't she's you know, she's a little more reserved when.
- 44:00SPEAKER_05: you go in there okay than then Nick and I because I know we would you're yeah we don't I'm gonna get yelled at yelled that would be the that would be the easiest part um maybe maybe Dean you can handle I'll make a pitch for it I I would like to open this up to if there are folks who are taking their time and sending in these wonderful emails um because that's all they know how to do then then I think we should reward them with something personally that's my opinion I agree all right so let's see we can open it up for the next uh the next show we'll have answers on that okay right I'll leave it up to you well the next one or the one after one of one of the two I'll leave that up to you this episode is brought to you by Sale Sale is proudly Canadian and stocked with over a hundred Canadian brands you know and love.
- 44:49SPEAKER_04: From rods and reels to sonars to kayaks and every last lure you've seen on the Fishing Canada show Sale has all the gear to get you on the water.
- 44:57SPEAKER_04: Drop into one of 12 stores across Ontario and Quebec and talk to the real fishing specialist or gear up online anytime at Sale.ca Sale the ultimate destination for your outdoor adventures all right let's get to today's show because we wasted a whole lot of time and talked a whole lot of nothing.
- 45:15SPEAKER_05: Now we need to talk about a whole lot of something uh recently the three of us were on uh on location at Timberwolf lodge in the beautiful algoma region of Ontario at uh Nagagami Negagami Nagagami Negagami Negagami yeah there is one of those too that's another lake um and we were uh enjoying uh all of the avails of the beautiful lodge there Timberwolf lodge which uh we have shot a few times but never uh under the current ownership relatively new I think they've only had it for um a couple of years yeah two years I think yeah um and I started off by saying that I had kind of pushed us into a box what I meant by that was that uh I decided ahead of time so I I want to explain how things work here on the show so first of all there's a lot of work that goes into selecting locations each year and it's done a year obviously uh a year or more ahead of time making those selections and there's a lot of variables that go into it there's a lot of moving parts a lot of people that you have to answer to and please and then finally we get it narrowed down to a particular location and uh then what we need to do is figure out the gist of the episode because every episode I would say over the last 20 years every episode has got a purpose it's got a story I know uh that traditional fishing shows ours included certainly the first 20 years of our 41 year history it was just about going out there and doing whatever you could and filming it and getting it to the production house and getting them to edit a show that was really based on a whole lot of nothing.
- 47:12SPEAKER_05: And I I mean that with all due respect to the other fishing shows but usually a whole lot of nothing.
- 47:18SPEAKER_05: In other words a a a dude or two uh going out enjoying themselves on the water and compiling you know a day and a half sometimes a day uh worth of fishing and um no real storyline just go out and catch a few fish and have a few laughs and then bring it back and and slam it together and there's another episode.
- 47:42SPEAKER_05: Well over the last 20 years we've worked really hard at breaking free of that mold and we like to think that uh the Fish in Canada show does give you something of great value each and every week aside from a couple of dudes going out and fishing.
- 48:03SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 48:03SPEAKER_05: So we try and put together a story prior to which is very hard when you're shooting a fishing show yeah because you have so many uncontrolled conditions.
- 48:15SPEAKER_05: So this was no different than any other shoot other than the fact that I came up with a last minute idea that I thought would be fun.
- 48:25SPEAKER_05: I thought the audience would really enjoy it and um I painted us into a corner because once we started we were committed we were totally committed to the concept now I'd like to talk to you uh two gentlemen that were with me on this shoot.
- 48:43SPEAKER_01: Uh were you shocked when I suggested that we use a storyline that we did end up using yeah I I certainly was I mean I think it's really cool I think it was a really neat concept um I still think it's a neat concept let's just say was I say uh it is um but definitely surprised I don't think we've ever done that before no we haven't ever yeah we've actually kind of taken a step back in the last couple years just because we've come up against having preset storylines and having it kind of hold us back when we're on shows whether that's we're only going to use this this bait or we're only gonna go to this spot or we're only gonna talk about this object and it kind of hurts us usually unless it everything goes like perfectly according to plan.
- 49:32SPEAKER_01: So what we've been doing more so lately at least I've been finding is you go out with a set plan and then you keep making adjustments and then everything kind of comes together in post.
- 49:43SPEAKER_05: But you keep making adjustments.
- 49:44SPEAKER_05: Yes exactly yeah because really that's what fishing is all about and I've said this for years.
- 49:51SPEAKER_05: Guys girls you should not decide in your garage sitting in your boat the the week or the night before your trip you should not make a decision on what the fish are going to want you to do until you're there with the fish and they got to be part of the process when making that decision.
- 50:11SPEAKER_05: You can't do it 200 miles away sitting in your garage saying okay this is going to be a uh I don't know a jig bite or it's gonna be a hard bait bite or it's gonna you know what I mean or or we're gonna back troll with uh with uh crawlers I mean you can't do that you can't go in with a preconceived notion of what the fish are going to do and that's why in our case where we're trying to predetermine a story weeks in advance without knowing any of the facts because we don't know what the weather's going to be like once we get on location.
- 50:47SPEAKER_05: And in most cases what the weather's like the day before we get there and what it's like when we get there are two totally different animals in most cases.
- 50:56SPEAKER_05: We don't know what the water levels are going to be the water clarity is going to be we don't know the barometer whether it's up or down the week that we're there.
- 51:07SPEAKER_05: We don't know anything.
- 51:08SPEAKER_05: The only thing we do know and but it makes no difference because the show must go on as they say we do know the moon phase and the sun phase right the lunar tables are uh available to us way in advance.
- 51:20SPEAKER_05: So we know that but we don't have any choice we can't say oh oh that's a bad bad spot on that lunar uh uh scale we should cancel the show because it's not prime time we can't do that this stuff is set up a year in advance so throw that one out the door that's why we very seldom have done a show based on moon phases which I think is a fascinating episode I think we've done it once yeah on the St.
- 51:44SPEAKER_05: Lawrence on the St.
- 51:45SPEAKER_05: Lawrence and it was I'll be honest with you we never divulged this at the time but that was one of those extra shows that season that was one of those shows we had all of our series shot and it was late it was don't remember day but it was late in the year it was cold and we said whoa look at that moon next week oh we gotta go we got to go to the St.
- 52:10SPEAKER_05: Lawrence and we did and we did a whole episode it was fantastic.
- 52:14SPEAKER_05: It was wonderful but we don't have normally we don't have that luxury because the episodes are all pre-scheduled a year ahead of time but anyways so I say all of this because in as much as I said we like to design each episode well in advance we usually leave ourselves a little bit of wiggle room because we know things are going to change once we're on location.
- 52:39SPEAKER_05: Well in this case we kind of didn't have any wiggle room because last minute I made a decision that we would take away we'd strip away all of the safety nets that we normally have on the chutes and we're gonna go verbatim exactly the way we called it and I was outwardly confident when we started I know both of you I could sense a little bit of uh pessimism on whether we would succeed or not and it's especially hard on you two guys because you know you've got the least amount of experience if it had been Pete or I only it would have been a different story because we both would have handled it the way we can due to experience is the only way I can put it right but it must have been really tough on you guys.
- 53:36SPEAKER_05: Like it had to be hard saying holy mackerel we got no wiggle room this is what I got to do here's my allotted time to perform this it's kind of like doing it live and that's got to be tough.
- 53:49SPEAKER_03: So I wanted to ask you guys what what what was your experience like well well for me it was it was a little odd so I I went up well not odd I just hard it was hard on the on the mind more than anything because I I went up first and the weather was not that cooperative.
- 54:08SPEAKER_03: So that was one thing that just right off the bat it's you're uncomfortable.
- 54:11SPEAKER_03: So now you're doing all this and you're and you're just physically uncomfortable but then second to that it was a matter of on these these wood boats that handle a little different than the tillers so it's it's a wood boat it's a different motor than I'm used to I'm also doing my own recording uh for a lot of it I'm also live scoping I'm also fishing.
- 54:34SPEAKER_03: So it was it was a little difficult getting my head around all of those individual things at the same time and really with only one day to do it.
- 54:47SPEAKER_05: I forgot all about that too.
- 54:49SPEAKER_05: I mean it yeah and and like and I think I I need to clarify this with the audience so um I decided that we should not only be restricted I'll explain the premise here in a minute but not only be restricted in the form of fishing the bait that you're using but Nick's right you know uh all of that high-end equipment that Pete and I have been you know just slapping around for years and taking for granted and uh learning by trial and error uh in Nick's case it was like okay kid figure it out you got a day in Dean's case now in your case dean not quite so much um because you are familiar a little more familiar with the use of forward facing sonar.
- 55:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah very familiar uh but boat control becomes an issue yes and it became an issue well not yeah not for me so much I mean I grew up fishing to tillers and guiding boat control is the your only job the entire day other than entertaining um it's just all boat control.
- 55:55SPEAKER_01: So I actually I would prefer to fish a tiller like that if I could fit like that was the perfect scenario for me to be honest for while I would be in that kind of boat on a tiller with so I felt really good to be honest.
- 56:09SPEAKER_05: Well we're not going to give away uh too much because I want the audience to watch the episode but I will tell you uh the premise of the show I decided uh that it would be kind of cool if we started by drawing straws to fit to see who would fish live bait who would fish plastic baits and who would fish hard baits now had we been making that draw say say here in the studio um a week in advance and you have no option right because we literally drew straws live on tape and you'll see this at the beginning of the show and I won't spoil it by saying who got what but had we uh been doing that a week beforehand and we had had we been asked you know behind the scenes you know which would you prefer I think that there would have been a total difference of opinion than when we drew them because things up there weren't quite what we thought they were going to be weather wise and pattern wise and fishing wise because you know the thing is that most people don't realize fish are fish are fish.
- 57:25SPEAKER_05: And one thing that we've learned that is consistent in terms of fish is that they're very inconsistent.
- 57:36SPEAKER_05: And just when you think that they're gonna turn right they'll turn left and no contrary to popular belief we still to this day don't truly understand what motivates that critter below the water we like to tell you we do.
- 57:53SPEAKER_05: And sometimes we we give you that false sense that we know but it's really not knowing it's basing our experiences to the situation and saying well geez last time this happened here's what happened it's not because we know fish we don't know fish like Marshall does the the guy who sent in that email earlier on uh we don't know fish we still to this day don't truly know fish what we know is that based on our experiences here's what's likely to happen.
- 58:28SPEAKER_05: So this was a very tough challenge for these two guys more so than me and I only say that because of time spent on the water experience having been in in high pressure situations before but all I can tell you is that had we all picked our favorite presentation to to to be the we know the one that we select a week prior to it probably would have been different than what we thought was going to work when we finally got there.
- 59:01SPEAKER_05: And so once we drew the straws uh the way it worked is uh we had three uh match sticks three different lengths uh whoever picked the the longest one would get to select their preference uh between live bait soft plastics in other words you know we'll call it live bait uh vertical presentation to hard baits horizontal presentation although in the hard bait category we could also drop a hard bait straight up and down um the the one knock from uh Yazuri was the one that we uh ended up using quite a bit of thank goodness but as I said before we probably would have each picked a different one had we had uh the decision process a week earlier but the situation was such that we had a predetermined length of time and we had a particular day that we had to perform these tasks and the total shoot day uh days were three and a half days guys if I'm not mistaken um no it was long we were there the entire trip was seven days I believe a day uh each way going in and out so that leaves us five but we weren't on the water five days it's four and a half I want to say because the first day Dean you're not adding a whole lot to this conversation help me well I'm right Dean the first day we spent a half day on the water and then we spent four full days in the water okay four days four full days four and a half four and a half full days so we which is not uh bad uh we normally get three days uh four is a luxury but so we had four and a bit full days on the water and during that period of time we experienced everything from oh my god I'm going to strip down naked and jump in the water it's so bloody hot out here to hmm I think I'm gonna put that uh set of long johns on this morning before I go out underneath my two and three levels of waterproofing so we had the most extreme weather conditions move through that you could possibly imagine and the barometer did a hundred and eighty degree change three times so there was no stability in those fish at all none whatsoever there wasn't a period of time where you could say okay it's stable enough we got something concrete to work with it was every day you had to kind of figure out where and what and how it was going to take place um oh I I hope you enjoy the experience as much as I did I don't know how about you guys give give me Dean I want to hear from you on this I haven't heard a thing from you I didn't know I was talking I mean I had a different experience from you two I think I did the exact presentation that I was hoping to um I was able to fish a lot of spots that I was able to scout and the fish were on I mean yeah they they were on so I was I was happy with I would love to go back on that lake and spend more time because I really I love lakes I love walleye lakes that don't have smallmouth because everywhere you go where it when you find something that looks like a game fish you know exactly what it is you know it normally behaves like it should I find on walleye lakes where there are smallmouth they get kind of pushed around a little bit by smallmouth and they end up in weird places and in weird patterns and doing weird things.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_01: This was I would love to have been able to fish more on that on that lake for sure.
- 1:02:59SPEAKER_05: Yeah I I I'm with you on that uh certainly uh fish more but uh fish with a lot more freedom without without any restrictions definitely with with more freedom right I mean being stuck to oh Nick Nick oh we're not giving any I can just bleep it okay um yeah the audience is gonna have to watch the uh the program to see who did what and how what the outcome was and what presentation worked better than the other that's the show thing uh I wanted to just talk about the experience uh and more so your two experiences under that kind of pressure because let me tell you when when Pete and I first started in this business um years ago we never put any restrictions on ourselves you know we'd just go out and have at it we just go out and have fun and it wasn't until like I said earlier on about two decades into our career that we started changing things and and wanting to uh predetermine a lot of the stuff that we end up capturing and and putting on the screen um because of what we think well not think what you've told us you wanted to to see and so um it's not just a free for all guys going out and heeha and you know here's whatever we catch here's how we're gonna present it and uh if you haven't learned that by now the Fish in Canada show does not do that we try and entertain you uh for the full half hour and um I think we're doing not too bad hopefully uh so that's why we wanted to share this with you today because this was the taking that concept a little bit farther than normal and that's not to say that we're not going to continue doing that by the way um although I don't think we'll put quite as much pressure on and normally there's not three of us on an episode and that makes it a lot easier too because to Dean's point it gives the angler a lot more water time to figure things out than we allotted for ourselves in this case right so especially if there's one angler to do one episode those are the best because you've got a whole week to figure it out and by the end of that week believe me it's figured out there is no ifs, ands or buts.
- 1:05:17SPEAKER_05: It's been figured out but when we chop it up into small pieces but once again that's all going to uh I think quality of production that we put out on the show.
- 1:05:27SPEAKER_05: So if we have to work a little harder for you then we are certainly more than willing to do so.
- 1:05:33SPEAKER_03: Having said that again I think neither one of you guys are going to sign up for a a repeat uh version of that I disagree I disagree with that entirely because yeah it was hard work and it was it was difficult but I think honest to God and and and not in any way if there's a little bit more freedom on it but it could still be the forget the having to stick to three distinct types but and the same conditions with the same stuff just being able to even take Take a day to go get used to it first.
- 1:06:03SPEAKER_03: Well, in your case, for sure.
- 1:06:04SPEAKER_03: For me, for sure, right?
- 1:06:06SPEAKER_03: Just taking a day to go get used to it, to be able to just balance everything out, I I I think would be of utmost importance.
- 1:06:14SPEAKER_03: You know, bate you you and Pete usually take a scouting day, this would kind of be no different.
- 1:06:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:06:19SPEAKER_03: Um but I think that being able to make some of my own decisions next time with it on what I'm gonna throw, for example, or or or just little different things might make it a little more mentally easier because then it's one less thing that you're trying to remember to do, and I think something else that I'd be able to just do naturally.
- 1:06:42SPEAKER_03: Um but short of that, I mean the the I I love going on these shoots.
- 1:06:46SPEAKER_03: I mean it's it's hard work, it's it's late nights and early mornings, but it's still very enjoyable.
- 1:06:52SPEAKER_03: It's a great time.
- 1:06:53SPEAKER_03: I hope so.
- 1:06:54SPEAKER_03: I I do I do love it.
- 1:06:56SPEAKER_05: There's a lot of people, a lot of people out there right now saying, Hey Nikki boy, anytime you want to move over, uh, I'll take take your job at you.
- 1:07:03SPEAKER_03: How many people have told you that exact same thing, going on a shoot with you once and say never again?
- 1:07:08SPEAKER_05: Well, that is true.
- 1:07:10SPEAKER_05: That's true too.
- 1:07:11SPEAKER_05: Yeah, there's not many people that can do it.
- 1:07:13SPEAKER_05: No, thank goodness.
- 1:07:14SPEAKER_05: Thank goodness.
- 1:07:16SPEAKER_05: Um, anyways, so that's our experience.
- 1:07:19SPEAKER_05: That wouldn't uh the episode is gonna be airing sometime in the new season, which starts January of 2027.
- 1:07:25SPEAKER_05: We at this point don't know the exact uh premiere date for this episode, but a little bit later on, I think by December, there's a schedule that'll go out and you can uh you can check it out.
- 1:07:39SPEAKER_05: Or better yet, just uh make sure you watch the whole series starting January, I think January 8th or 7th this year, and uh you'll see what we're talking about.
- 1:07:48SPEAKER_05: A very interesting episode.
- 1:07:50SPEAKER_05: If uh and very uh there's a lot of things that we learned, and consequently, you will learn as well.
- 1:07:58SPEAKER_05: But at the end of the day, uh we got the results that we wanted.
- 1:08:01SPEAKER_05: The story that we went in with is the is a story that we ended up delivering.
- 1:08:07SPEAKER_05: We just took uh the long road, we took the high road as opposed to just going in a straight line.
- 1:08:14SPEAKER_05: I'll leave you with that.
- 1:08:15SPEAKER_05: Anything else you guys want to add about that shoot?
- 1:08:18SPEAKER_01: No, I think I think that's good.
- 1:08:20SPEAKER_01: And uh for contest-wise, the winner has been announced uh a few podcasts ago on episode 235.
- 1:08:26SPEAKER_01: Yes, we're in between contests now.
- 1:08:28SPEAKER_01: Uh perfect.
- 1:08:29SPEAKER_01: There will be a new garment, and uh, you know what, I won't I won't hint at what it is, but it is a huge prize.
- 1:08:37SPEAKER_01: I mean, they all they all have been this year, but this is a big one, so stay tuned.
- 1:08:42SPEAKER_05: I I I just want to add one thing um that I want to say to the folks that are in charge of is it nogami?
- 1:08:52SPEAKER_05: Nogagami.
- 1:08:53SPEAKER_05: Yeah, Nagagami?
- 1:08:55SPEAKER_05: Is that right?
- 1:08:57SPEAKER_05: Who knows, man?
- 1:08:58SPEAKER_05: Nagagami Lake.
- 1:09:00SPEAKER_05: Uh, it's a wonderful body of water.
- 1:09:01SPEAKER_05: I've had the privilege of being on it several times.
- 1:09:04SPEAKER_05: I I do want to say one thing, though.
- 1:09:06SPEAKER_05: I am a little disappointed that um we still don't have now it's a pretty remote lake.
- 1:09:14SPEAKER_05: It's a fly-in.
- 1:09:16SPEAKER_05: So things tend to get a little more lax in terms of fisheries management.
- 1:09:22SPEAKER_05: I would like to point out to people that are in that position of being the marshals for fisheries management on their body of water, their area.
- 1:09:34SPEAKER_05: Sometimes, even when things are looking really great, that's the best time to start putting things in place.
- 1:09:40SPEAKER_05: I'd like to suggest that there be a uh all walleye, for example, over 23 inches, maybe 22, but 23 for sure, and all pike over 36 must be released.
- 1:09:57SPEAKER_05: Right now, that's not the case.
- 1:09:59SPEAKER_05: And um, and and and I think pretty much all lakes.
- 1:10:03SPEAKER_05: I don't think just that one.
- 1:10:04SPEAKER_05: I think that can go for just about any lake.
- 1:10:07SPEAKER_05: Remote flying or drive to rubber tire, uh, backwoods lakes.
- 1:10:12SPEAKER_05: We we need to, other than the the management system in place by um the officials, I think we can put our own in place to take it one step further.
- 1:10:22SPEAKER_05: At the end of the day, the goal on these lakes, on these fly-in trips, especially, especially, because it almost seems that it just goes without saying, uh, you're gonna want to take fish out.
- 1:10:36SPEAKER_05: I'm going in there and I'm gonna consume fish all week, and by golly, I paid for this, so I've got to take my whatever my legal limit is on that lake, I'm gonna take it out.
- 1:10:46SPEAKER_05: Whether I'm gonna consume it or not, doesn't matter.
- 1:10:48SPEAKER_05: It's part of the deal.
- 1:10:49SPEAKER_05: I'm gonna take it out.
- 1:10:50SPEAKER_05: And I'd like people to start changing their their ways on that.
- 1:10:54SPEAKER_05: Enjoy the fishery while you're there, for sure.
- 1:10:57SPEAKER_05: For sure.
- 1:10:58SPEAKER_05: I encourage people to have a feed of walleye once a day on these lakes.
- 1:11:06SPEAKER_05: Hell, have it for breakfast.
- 1:11:09SPEAKER_05: But when you're done the trip, leave it there.
- 1:11:13SPEAKER_05: You don't need to take it with you.
- 1:11:15SPEAKER_05: Leave it there.
- 1:11:17SPEAKER_05: Leave the experience there for yourself, for your kids, your grandkids, anybody else that uh has a wherewithal to want to be immersed in that sort of environment.
- 1:11:29SPEAKER_05: There's no reason.
- 1:11:30SPEAKER_05: There's absolutely I see no reason, and I and whether I'm talking west coast fishery, saltwater, freshwater, east coast fishery, yeah, both fresh and then freshwater throughout the body of the nation.
- 1:11:42SPEAKER_05: There is no reason.
- 1:11:44SPEAKER_05: We have to change that mindset.
- 1:11:46SPEAKER_05: We changed our mindset about you know catch and release fishing when we're on our home lakes and when we're you know going to a daily drive to.
- 1:11:52SPEAKER_05: Now we need to take that, we need to ramp that up one step further.
- 1:11:56SPEAKER_05: We need to take the attitude when I'm on an outback lake, I'll consume what I need to consume or want to consume while I'm there, but that's it.
- 1:12:07SPEAKER_05: There's nothing going back with me.
- 1:12:09SPEAKER_05: And I think we do that, all of these lakes will will be there uh forever.
- 1:12:14SPEAKER_05: Because most of the populations, especially on this body of water, is so healthy and vibrant and strong and has so much potential.
- 1:12:21SPEAKER_05: All we have to do is allow it to grow.
- 1:12:25SPEAKER_05: So you want them to take a page out of uh Ted's book.
- 1:12:30SPEAKER_05: Uh Hawk Lake Lodge, man.
- 1:12:32SPEAKER_05: Hawk Lake Lodge.
- 1:12:33SPEAKER_05: It is the place to learn fishery management, and the results are staggering.
- 1:12:38SPEAKER_05: But, anyways, enough of that.
- 1:12:41SPEAKER_05: Um, what do we need?
- 1:12:44SPEAKER_05: Contests are gonna be ongoing.
