- 0:49Speaker 2: doctor Judy Simmons with us today and also Shelby Kohley
- 0:55Speaker 2: here in Farmington New Creation, New Creations, Christian and Counseling
- 1:01Speaker 2: and good to see you ladies.
- 1:03Speaker 3: Hello, good morning.
- 1:05Speaker 4: Hey, thank you, it's great to be here.
- 1:07Speaker 2: You're welcome. I like to be on the bottom left corner.
- 1:11Speaker 2: It's like Hollywood Squares, but only four of us versus nine,
- 1:15Speaker 2: so that'll be too young to remember that show, Hollywood Squares, But.
- 1:20Speaker 3: Oh God for that and the.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Break the seventies. I think for eighties TV show, it
- 1:25Speaker 2: was like a yeah, nine of them and there was
- 1:28Speaker 2: yeah anyway, So we're talking about I was thinking about
- 1:32Speaker 2: God's will for our lives. You may not know this,
- 1:38Speaker 2: but my wife and Nette back in the day in
- 1:40Speaker 2: high school, had a crush on a guy named Will.
- 1:43Speaker 2: It was a guy named Will, and he said I
- 1:44Speaker 2: might just be God's will for your life. His name
- 1:47Speaker 2: was Will. So if your name is Will and you
- 1:50Speaker 2: haven't used that line before, that's a good one.
- 1:54Speaker 3: That is a good one.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Ladies, have you ever tried to figure out what God's
- 1:58Speaker 2: will for your life? Am I the only one who's
- 2:01Speaker 2: asked that question? I think everybody asked that question?
- 2:02Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, we definitely do.
- 2:06Speaker 4: Sometimes I ask it daily, like you know, you know,
- 2:10Speaker 4: am I? Am I doing what you called me to do?
- 2:12Speaker 3: And then you know, just be in fifty six.
- 2:15Speaker 5: Sometimes I'm like, oh my gosh, like like a midlife crisis, right,
- 2:20Speaker 5: I actually fulfilling what God created me.
- 2:23Speaker 3: To do here?
- 2:23Speaker 4: So, yes, I go through that on a regular basis.
- 2:27Speaker 3: Master joke. Yeah, definitely.
- 2:30Speaker 6: I think I've had, at different points a lot of
- 2:33Speaker 6: anxiety about whether or not I was fulfilling his will.
- 2:38Speaker 6: And I agree with with with truthy that Yeah, I
- 2:43Speaker 6: think we should ask daily sometimes you.
- 2:45Speaker 3: Know, what do you want me to do today? What
- 2:46Speaker 3: is your will? In every situation?
- 2:49Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, absolutely, because sometimes we're still running on a
- 2:55Speaker 2: word from yesterday or last week, but yeah, every day like,
- 2:59Speaker 2: this is still what you want me to do. And
- 3:02Speaker 2: on our Overcomers TV Live, we have a show called
- 3:06Speaker 2: Answering the Call and it's all kinds of ministries that
- 3:09Speaker 2: do all kinds of things. And usually when I'm done
- 3:13Speaker 2: asking them, hey, why do you do what you do?
- 3:15Speaker 2: And they're like, well, this is what God's called me
- 3:17Speaker 2: to do, and until he tells me to do something else,
- 3:19Speaker 2: this is what I'm doing. And every once in a
- 3:20Speaker 2: while God will interrupt your schedule and add something to
- 3:24Speaker 2: your plate that you weren't planning on doing today, because
- 3:27Speaker 2: then you know, as you go there's some needs that
- 3:29Speaker 2: we can be a part of, and sometimes we take
- 3:32Speaker 2: a pass on them because that's something else for somebody
- 3:34Speaker 2: else to do. So this is the question. And when
- 3:37Speaker 2: we talk about mental health matters renew your mind, renew
- 3:41Speaker 2: your life, that's out of you know Romans twelve don't
- 3:45Speaker 2: be conformed to the world, but be transformed by the
- 3:48Speaker 2: renewing of your mind and the renewing of your life.
- 3:50Speaker 2: And for us Christians with a Christian approach, we know
- 3:53Speaker 2: that's by reading God's words, so today's word of the
- 3:56Speaker 2: day versus the day. And this is how we kind
- 3:58Speaker 2: of came up with our title of our show. This
- 4:00Speaker 2: is first Essonians five sixteen through eighteen. It's the end
- 4:04Speaker 2: of this letter that Paul wrote to those Christians in
- 4:07Speaker 2: Thessalonika Akaa Thessalonians. It says, rejoice always, pray without ceasing
- 4:14Speaker 2: in everything gives thanks for this is the will of
- 4:18Speaker 2: God in Christ Jesus for you. So three things there
- 4:22Speaker 2: which we know plainly in scripture. This is what God
- 4:26Speaker 2: wants for you. So true? Do you want to go first?
- 4:28Speaker 2: What do you think that when you think of that
- 4:29Speaker 2: verse and then show that you can jump in?
- 4:33Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean it's a powerful voice of verse. Rejoice always?
- 4:37Speaker 3: Really do?
- 4:37Speaker 5: I have to rejoice even in the hard times. But yeah,
- 4:40Speaker 5: we're supposed to worship and rejoice, pray without cec You
- 4:45Speaker 5: know this is funny. I'm a runner and I pray
- 4:48Speaker 5: when I run, and I love that time alone with
- 4:51Speaker 5: the Lord. And I remember someone telling me one time,
- 4:54Speaker 5: you can't pray while you run, you have to sit still,
- 4:57Speaker 5: and I was like, oh no, that's so not true.
- 4:59Speaker 5: We can pray throughout our day as we go, we pray,
- 5:03Speaker 5: and as we pray.
- 5:05Speaker 4: I believe that that's when the Lord starts to unfold
- 5:08Speaker 4: what he has for us.
- 5:09Speaker 5: Even if it's just for that hour or that day,
- 5:12Speaker 5: like you said, pastor Track, our purpose could change throughout
- 5:15Speaker 5: the day, and we have to be preyed up. We
- 5:17Speaker 5: have to make sure we are mentally where we need
- 5:20Speaker 5: to be, you know. And then giving thanks I think
- 5:23Speaker 5: ushers in the Holy Spirit and his power in his presence,
- 5:27Speaker 5: because the enemy loves a complaining, unthankful heart, and so
- 5:31Speaker 5: it's such a powerful scripture of the heart posture where
- 5:34Speaker 5: we need to be, and being there is where we
- 5:37Speaker 5: find our purpose.
- 5:39Speaker 2: Hey man, very good shelby your thoughts on that.
- 5:43Speaker 6: For sure, I think it is hard at times to think, like,
- 5:46Speaker 6: how do I rejoice always? And you know, we remember
- 5:49Speaker 6: who God is and what he's done, and other verses
- 5:53Speaker 6: would say, you know, hey, He's going to use all
- 5:55Speaker 6: this for our good.
- 5:58Speaker 3: And we can rejoice in that.
- 6:00Speaker 6: And definitely the enemy would love to get us into
- 6:03Speaker 6: a place of complaining.
- 6:04Speaker 3: And looking at the negative and being deceived.
- 6:09Speaker 6: And to believe that like God is not good and
- 6:11Speaker 6: that there is no goodness in our lives.
- 6:15Speaker 3: And so yeah, I.
- 6:15Speaker 6: Think rejoicing in all things that shift in our mindset
- 6:20Speaker 6: really can make all the difference about whether or not
- 6:23Speaker 6: we're stuck or have movement. Praying without seizing, Yeah, I
- 6:28Speaker 6: love that you say you pray when when you run.
- 6:31Speaker 6: I think that's also it's probably really one of the
- 6:33Speaker 6: best times for you to pray, is like in that.
- 6:36Speaker 3: Movement of your body. And I love that. Yeah. I
- 6:40Speaker 3: think God would love us to be in relationship.
- 6:45Speaker 6: With him at all moments because He is living in
- 6:48Speaker 6: us and we don't have to, you know, necessarily stop,
- 6:53Speaker 6: Like we can turn towards Him at any moment and
- 6:55Speaker 6: be in relationship with him, in conversation with him, and right,
- 7:01Speaker 6: you know, we don't have to be alone in anything
- 7:02Speaker 6: that we do. And so I think that when I
- 7:05Speaker 6: hear that is just I think of God being like
- 7:07Speaker 6: I want to talk to you all the time, like
- 7:08Speaker 6: let's pray without ceasing, like let's talk about it.
- 7:12Speaker 3: I think that's good.
- 7:13Speaker 2: Yeah, it's good. So mental health matters. I mean again,
- 7:16Speaker 2: what we meditate on, what we're thinking, God actually sees
- 7:20Speaker 2: our thought life. I think about Psalm one thirty nine,
- 7:25Speaker 2: and we'll go there. It's a great palm. The whole
- 7:27Speaker 2: psalm is great, but it starts off with God's perfect
- 7:33Speaker 2: not and I'll kind of just make that big screen
- 7:36Speaker 2: here real quick. It says, Oh, Lord, you have searched
- 7:39Speaker 2: me and known me. You know my sitting down, you
- 7:43Speaker 2: know my rising up, you understand my thought afar off.
- 7:48Speaker 2: You comprehend my path, my lying down, and are acquainted
- 7:52Speaker 2: with all my ways. But there's not a word on
- 7:55Speaker 2: my tongue. But behold o, Lord, you know it all together.
- 8:00Speaker 2: You've hedged me behind before and you laid your hand
- 8:03Speaker 2: upon me. So you too do Christian counseling. And people
- 8:07Speaker 2: come to you because they need advice or counseling, right,
- 8:11Speaker 2: and again there's some uneasiness in there. They're not happy content.
- 8:16Speaker 2: People do make appointments with you and every if everything's good, right,
- 8:19Speaker 2: So you know you're trying to you know, you're trying
- 8:23Speaker 2: to figure out what are you feeling? What are you thinking?
- 8:26Speaker 2: And you're praying, Lord, what do you want me to
- 8:28Speaker 2: tell them? Because you can be and should be a
- 8:30Speaker 2: voice for God. And God uses people to put words
- 8:34Speaker 2: in the air so we can hear it and think
- 8:36Speaker 2: about it. But do you I mean, obviously, God knows
- 8:40Speaker 2: what that person's thinking. And I believe appointments with you
- 8:43Speaker 2: are very much divine appointments God. You're an instrument in
- 8:46Speaker 2: God's hands. So just that thought that God knows our
- 8:49Speaker 2: thoughts as far as our mental health and how it matters, Trudy,
- 8:53Speaker 2: you go first, and then Shelby can swing away at that.
- 8:57Speaker 5: You know, isn't that a little bit scary to think
- 9:00Speaker 5: that God knows our thoughts? Because gosh, I know some
- 9:02Speaker 5: thoughts that I've had that have not been uplifting and
- 9:04Speaker 5: edifying that need to be reframed. And I tell my
- 9:07Speaker 5: clients a lot of times I ask them to do
- 9:10Speaker 5: three things when they have a thought. You catch the thought, Okay,
- 9:13Speaker 5: go ahead and catch up, because we have to renew
- 9:16Speaker 5: our mind, right, So we catch the thought, then we
- 9:18Speaker 5: challenge the thought, and then it doesn't line up with
- 9:21Speaker 5: God's word, we change the thought.
- 9:22Speaker 4: And that's the hardest part because our thoughts can condemn.
- 9:25Speaker 5: Us, and not every thought is real, nor should it
- 9:28Speaker 5: occupy space in our minds. And we have to be
- 9:31Speaker 5: careful a lot of times what we're thinking on because
- 9:34Speaker 5: you know, there's a battlefield.
- 9:35Speaker 2: What is that?
- 9:36Speaker 5: Joyce Meyer's book The battlefield of the mind, and it's
- 9:39Speaker 5: so true. And we've got to make sure that our
- 9:42Speaker 5: thoughts are Godly thoughts and not our own thoughts, you know,
- 9:46Speaker 5: And do those thoughts line up with what the Word
- 9:50Speaker 5: of God says, because you know, a lot of times
- 9:53Speaker 5: we get trapped in our own mind, our own stink,
- 9:55Speaker 5: and think in our own lies, our own limitations, our
- 9:59Speaker 5: own disbelieves are things that we're spoken over to us
- 10:02Speaker 5: and it gets lodged in our mind.
- 10:05Speaker 4: And we've got to be able, like.
- 10:06Speaker 5: I said, to catch the thoughts, challenge the thought, and
- 10:08Speaker 5: then change the thought, because thoughts are powerful. And I
- 10:12Speaker 5: think you said, Chuck, what we focus on is what grows,
- 10:16Speaker 5: and so are we focusing dwelling on the good?
- 10:19Speaker 4: Are the bad?
- 10:20Speaker 5: And it's you know, it's fairly important to think about
- 10:23Speaker 5: what we're thinking on.
- 10:26Speaker 3: Yeah, definitely, I love that.
- 10:29Speaker 6: I think I also try to get my clients to
- 10:33Speaker 6: really think about what God would have, what God would.
- 10:37Speaker 3: Say about their thoughts, you know too, and get them
- 10:39Speaker 3: to replace it. And it does it. What goes on
- 10:42Speaker 3: in our head, whether.
- 10:43Speaker 6: We're really aware of it or not, really does, you know,
- 10:47Speaker 6: have an effect on everything that we do and all
- 10:49Speaker 6: of our emotions and relationships and all of that. And
- 10:52Speaker 6: you know, as I read that verse, I think about
- 10:56Speaker 6: how much, you know, do we really know ourselves?
- 10:59Speaker 3: You know?
- 10:59Speaker 6: I think when people come in to see us, they're like,
- 11:01Speaker 6: I don't even know what's going on with me. I
- 11:03Speaker 6: have no idea anything like who am I what?
- 11:07Speaker 3: Why? What do I even want?
- 11:09Speaker 6: You know, all these different things, and to think that,
- 11:12Speaker 6: you know, God, God does know us. He wants to
- 11:15Speaker 6: speak with us, He wants to show us who we
- 11:17Speaker 6: are and him. And you know, identity is hard, and
- 11:20Speaker 6: I think that the enemy would love to steal our
- 11:24Speaker 6: identity or confuse us. And you know the world would
- 11:27Speaker 6: love to tell us like to be whoever and whatever
- 11:29Speaker 6: we want to be, and you know that can really
- 11:32Speaker 6: take us down some not so good paths. And so
- 11:38Speaker 6: you know, letting God kind of asking him like what
- 11:42Speaker 6: what do you do you want me? You know you
- 11:44Speaker 6: know me better than I know myself.
- 11:46Speaker 2: So yeah, that's good, you just said ask. And that's
- 11:49Speaker 2: what prayer means. You're asking your petitioning, even court documents
- 11:54Speaker 2: if you've ever been to court before and as a judge,
- 11:56Speaker 2: and your lawyer is drafting up emotion, asking him the
- 12:01Speaker 2: judge to grant this motion. They'll use language like you know,
- 12:06Speaker 2: I pray the court will grant this motion. They'll use
- 12:09Speaker 2: words like pray and like whoa, that's I thought that
- 12:11Speaker 2: was a church word, like a you know, Christiani praying,
- 12:15Speaker 2: But it just means to request. So I'm tying these
- 12:18Speaker 2: two together because it says pray without ceasing. So I
- 12:22Speaker 2: was raised Catholic, you know, and as a little kid
- 12:24Speaker 2: would walk into the Catholic church and it was a
- 12:26Speaker 2: little section with all the candles, and my dad would
- 12:29Speaker 2: sometimes give me a dollar and say, hey, go put
- 12:31Speaker 2: a dollar in that little box. Light a candle, say
- 12:33Speaker 2: a prayer. And in front of it was maybe the
- 12:35Speaker 2: statue of Mary, and Christians and Evangelicals getting an up roar.
- 12:39Speaker 2: Oh it's idle worship. No, no, it's just a statue.
- 12:42Speaker 2: It's like a picture of Mary and Jesus. These are
- 12:45Speaker 2: old school photos, right, to remind us of some of
- 12:48Speaker 2: the saints. We're not worshiping the statue. These are just
- 12:52Speaker 2: objects of historical biblical fee creu you know, characters, right,
- 12:57Speaker 2: and we're praying to God and so we're now bowing
- 13:00Speaker 2: down to a statue to pray. But I'm saying, is
- 13:02Speaker 2: I just grew up thinking, well, that's where I go
- 13:05Speaker 2: the house of prayer. You just said my father's house
- 13:07Speaker 2: is a house of prayer. But this verse is challenging us.
- 13:10Speaker 2: It's not you don't have to be in a neil
- 13:12Speaker 2: position with a candle. It's like, all day, every day
- 13:15Speaker 2: I'm talking to God, I'm recognizing my thought life is
- 13:18Speaker 2: before the throne of God. He already knows what I'm thinking,
- 13:21Speaker 2: and if I'm talking to him about it, my prayers
- 13:24Speaker 2: and my thoughts will be a little more holier than
- 13:27Speaker 2: if I don't recognize the fact that God's in mean
- 13:30Speaker 2: for us as Christians, we believe the Holy Spirit lives
- 13:33Speaker 2: in us, right, so we're never really alone. So maybe
- 13:38Speaker 2: again as a Christian counselor, we need to remind people, hey,
- 13:41Speaker 2: God's with us, if you've invited him in, if you've
- 13:43Speaker 2: actually taken that step that you know he's And again
- 13:49Speaker 2: to the pod, to your points. The things we're thinking about,
- 13:51Speaker 2: we're going to start maybe moving towards doing them. And
- 13:54Speaker 2: if they're not, like you know, lining up with His will.
- 14:00Speaker 2: And that's what we're trying to figure Out's what we
- 14:01Speaker 2: call the show. This is God's will for your life.
- 14:04Speaker 2: So the more we talk to God about what he
- 14:06Speaker 2: wants us to do and we check those thoughts with him,
- 14:11Speaker 2: those are godly, those are not godly. Although I feel
- 14:14Speaker 2: like doing that, I'm not going to do that. So
- 14:16Speaker 2: I think this is really where all our decisions are made.
- 14:20Speaker 2: And again, our thoughts and our heart, they're kind of
- 14:22Speaker 2: connected back to you, Trudy.
- 14:24Speaker 4: Yeah, No, I love what Shelby talked. She touched on
- 14:27Speaker 4: of his identity.
- 14:27Speaker 5: And it's so hard for us, pastor Chuck, to walk
- 14:31Speaker 5: in our identity if we don't have a perfect view
- 14:37Speaker 5: of who we truly are like, if we can't see
- 14:39Speaker 5: ourselves as God sees us, fearful, you know, the righteousness
- 14:44Speaker 5: of Christ, fearfully and wonderfully made in His.
- 14:46Speaker 4: Image, lacking no good thing.
- 14:47Speaker 5: If we can't understand where our identity is, then it
- 14:51Speaker 5: is truly hard to walk in our purpose because we
- 14:53Speaker 5: are going to be trying to please everybody.
- 14:56Speaker 4: Accept the Father. In my Son's room above bet it.
- 15:00Speaker 5: Says I would rather stand with God and be judged
- 15:03Speaker 5: by the world than to stand with the world and
- 15:05Speaker 5: be judged by God. So we've got to you know,
- 15:07Speaker 5: a part of being a Christian counselor is to make
- 15:11Speaker 5: sure we are pointing people to Christ as the author
- 15:14Speaker 5: and finisher of their faith and helping them understand where the.
- 15:18Speaker 4: Identity truly comes from.
- 15:19Speaker 5: And if it doesn't line up with God's word, then
- 15:22Speaker 5: it's not from God.
- 15:24Speaker 1: You know.
- 15:24Speaker 4: My favorite scripture is John.
- 15:25Speaker 5: Ten ten The enemy comes to still kill, and the
- 15:29Speaker 5: story that Christ has come that we may have the
- 15:31Speaker 5: abundant life. And so I ask you look at your clients.
- 15:34Speaker 5: You're like, hey, where are you allowing the enemy to steal?
- 15:37Speaker 5: What are you allowing him to kill and destroy? You know,
- 15:39Speaker 5: because we can hand it over to him by not
- 15:42Speaker 5: truly knowing who we are in Christ and how much
- 15:45Speaker 5: our Father truly loves us and what Only has really
- 15:49Speaker 5: for us.
- 15:50Speaker 4: I mean, I think a lot of times, Shelby, you
- 15:52Speaker 4: can probably talk.
- 15:53Speaker 5: Into this too, that people we miss so many opportunities
- 15:58Speaker 5: of what God has for us because we don't know
- 16:01Speaker 5: our cheue identity.
- 16:01Speaker 4: We don't know our true worth or our true calling.
- 16:04Speaker 5: We don't know what we're capable of because we're not
- 16:07Speaker 5: walking in the fullness of how.
- 16:09Speaker 4: He created us to be. And I think so many
- 16:11Speaker 4: people and I think it's been said before, you drive
- 16:14Speaker 4: past graveyards and you wonder how many people died with.
- 16:17Speaker 5: Their purpose still inside of them because they didn't know
- 16:21Speaker 5: their cheue identity. And I think that's a huge heartbreak
- 16:24Speaker 5: for me, is to know that so many people are
- 16:27Speaker 5: walking around with that identity crisis and hopeless because they
- 16:32Speaker 5: don't know who they truly are and they're not fulfilling
- 16:34Speaker 5: their purpose because of it.
- 16:37Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:38Speaker 6: Yeah, I definitely think, you know, as people, we can
- 16:43Speaker 6: get lost in needing others to you know, validate us
- 16:50Speaker 6: and give us our worth or you know, or our
- 16:52Speaker 6: jobs or what we do or whatever that looks like.
- 16:55Speaker 3: And I think when we can kind of make.
- 16:59Speaker 6: Things overly complicated at times, you know, and it's like, well,
- 17:03Speaker 6: what does God really ask us to do? Like he
- 17:06Speaker 6: asks us to surrender certain things to him? He asks
- 17:12Speaker 6: us to you know, and in that surrender like we
- 17:15Speaker 6: are sanctified.
- 17:16Speaker 3: He asks us to talk to him.
- 17:18Speaker 6: He asks us, you know, renew our minds, like reading
- 17:21Speaker 6: you know, the word and meditating on scriptures.
- 17:24Speaker 3: And I think he would all the other It's like seek.
- 17:29Speaker 6: First the kingdom and everything else will be at it,
- 17:32Speaker 6: like it will come. And I do see a lot
- 17:34Speaker 6: of even see a lot of people who are confused
- 17:37Speaker 6: worldly identity confusion. But then I also on the other
- 17:41Speaker 6: side of the spectrum, I see a lot of people
- 17:42Speaker 6: who really know God but are often maybe really overthinking
- 17:48Speaker 6: what they should be doing, like I should be performing,
- 17:52Speaker 6: I should you know, and they get really start.
- 17:55Speaker 3: To overthink what their purpose is.
- 17:57Speaker 6: And you know, I find that to be sometimes it's
- 18:02Speaker 6: sometimes a bit of a difficult thing to I guess
- 18:05Speaker 6: maybe express or to you know, have someone sit and
- 18:09Speaker 6: just be like, Okay, let's just be patient for what
- 18:12Speaker 6: is God? You know, what does it look like to
- 18:15Speaker 6: even just be more christ like in this conversation with
- 18:19Speaker 6: your husband or instead of thinking like what I need
- 18:23Speaker 6: to do with.
- 18:24Speaker 3: My life, I should be out being running a women's ministry,
- 18:30Speaker 3: or I should go do this or that, whatever it is.
- 18:32Speaker 6: And it's like even just like how do I honor
- 18:36Speaker 6: and respect my husband in this conversation?
- 18:40Speaker 3: And then I think God can change so much in
- 18:43Speaker 3: us through those things that we surrender.
- 18:46Speaker 6: And then we like a wealth of newness and restoration
- 18:50Speaker 6: can come.
- 18:52Speaker 4: I don't know if that's making a lot of sense.
- 18:53Speaker 2: But well, yeah, yeah, yeah, And I want to piggyback
- 18:56Speaker 2: on your identity statement. I think that is the number
- 18:58Speaker 2: one problem. I once heard a pastor say, if you
- 19:01Speaker 2: believe you're a child of God, you'll start acting like
- 19:04Speaker 2: a child of God. So that's a pretty short sermon.
- 19:06Speaker 2: It says a lot. And interesting enough, last night's Bible
- 19:09Speaker 2: study was all of Romans eight, so we get to
- 19:11Speaker 2: renew your mind part from Romans twelve. But before twelve
- 19:14Speaker 2: is chapter eight. We did like one through thirty, and
- 19:18Speaker 2: it was part of identity. That was part of the
- 19:20Speaker 2: section we're supposed to find. And this is kind of
- 19:23Speaker 2: this area. Twelve through seventeen talks about it. It says, well,
- 19:29Speaker 2: even in eleven, this whole holy spirit on the inside
- 19:33Speaker 2: I mentioned that. But if the spirit that's capitalists of
- 19:37Speaker 2: him who raised Jesus and the dead dwells in you,
- 19:40Speaker 2: It said, if if you've asked him in he is
- 19:43Speaker 2: he who raised Christ from the dead, will also give
- 19:46Speaker 2: life to your mortal bodies through his spirit who dwells
- 19:49Speaker 2: in you. So that's the inu part. And it goes
- 19:51Speaker 2: on to say, therefore, brethren, we were dead, or is
- 19:53Speaker 2: not to the flesh to live according to the flesh.
- 19:55Speaker 2: For if you live according to the flesh, you'll die,
- 19:57Speaker 2: but if the spirit, you'll put the death the deed
- 20:00Speaker 2: of the body and live. For as many are led
- 20:02Speaker 2: by the spirit of God, these are sons of God.
- 20:06Speaker 2: So this is identity stuff ready for. We did not
- 20:09Speaker 2: receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but received
- 20:11Speaker 2: the spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, Abba, Father,
- 20:16Speaker 2: which someone will say is like saying Daddy, Daddy. The
- 20:19Speaker 2: Spirit himself bears witness in our spirit that we are
- 20:23Speaker 2: children of God. And if we're children, then heirs of
- 20:27Speaker 2: God and joint heirs with Christ. So this is that
- 20:30Speaker 2: identity part, being a child of God crying out to God,
- 20:34Speaker 2: Abba Father. And not everybody has a good, healthy understanding
- 20:38Speaker 2: that they think God is a judge. He's ready to
- 20:40Speaker 2: squash me, and that's a problem. That's bad mental health
- 20:44Speaker 2: thinking God. But looking at God as your father and
- 20:47Speaker 2: being a child of God, that changes everything back to you, Truty.
- 20:51Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean I think you hit that's a good point.
- 20:54Speaker 5: I mean, depending on your relationship with your Dad. Sometimes
- 20:57Speaker 5: will depend on your relationship and how you view the Father,
- 21:00Speaker 5: and that's just something you have to work through.
- 21:03Speaker 4: Knowing that he.
- 21:04Speaker 5: Is a good and loving God and no matter what,
- 21:08Speaker 5: He's still a good, loving God. And I think sometimes
- 21:12Speaker 5: I think we get it wrong when we become believers,
- 21:15Speaker 5: that we think we're not going to have trials, We're
- 21:17Speaker 5: not going to have tribulations, We're not going to have troubles,
- 21:20Speaker 5: and then when they come, we question God's goodness. But
- 21:24Speaker 5: Scripture does say that in this world we will have
- 21:28Speaker 5: trials and tribulations. We will have, you know, but He's
- 21:31Speaker 5: overcome it.
- 21:32Speaker 4: And so how do we.
- 21:32Speaker 5: Overcome by keeping our faith and keeping our focus and
- 21:37Speaker 5: keeping our hearts steadfast to him.
- 21:40Speaker 4: And that's how we will overcome this world.
- 21:43Speaker 5: Not in our own strength and.
- 21:47Speaker 4: Not in the ways of the world. We will look
- 21:48Speaker 4: completely different than the world.
- 21:51Speaker 5: If we are following Jesus wholeheartedly, we will we will not.
- 21:55Speaker 4: You know what does it say? Be in the world,
- 21:57Speaker 4: just not of the world.
- 21:58Speaker 5: And so often we want to fit in and so badly,
- 22:02Speaker 5: but the Lord gave me you know, it's boma right,
- 22:04Speaker 5: fear of missing out.
- 22:05Speaker 4: Well, the other day I was swimming.
- 22:07Speaker 2: I just learned that recently, I'm.
- 22:11Speaker 3: Fear of fear of missing out.
- 22:13Speaker 5: I was swimming the other day and he's like, why
- 22:15Speaker 5: don't you just do fauth in, and that's the fear
- 22:18Speaker 5: of fitting in. It's like, I don't want to fit in.
- 22:21Speaker 5: I want to stand out for Jesus. And it's gonna
- 22:23Speaker 5: look different. My marriage will look different, my family will
- 22:27Speaker 5: look different, my ministry will look different.
- 22:30Speaker 4: But I there was times when I really wanted.
- 22:32Speaker 5: To fit in, and and the Lord's like, I don't
- 22:36Speaker 5: want you to fit in. I created you to stand out,
- 22:38Speaker 5: and you know we've got to be able to do that.
- 22:41Speaker 5: And in Christ and through Christ is how we do that.
- 22:45Speaker 3: M Yeah, that's good. I like that definitely.
- 22:51Speaker 6: There are times, you know, you'd have to go against
- 22:56Speaker 6: who God says you are to fit in, even with
- 23:00Speaker 6: like friends and people that you think that you know,
- 23:03Speaker 6: no big deal, like an end.
- 23:04Speaker 3: So there can be.
- 23:08Speaker 6: A degree of feeling like isolated or I don't fit in.
- 23:11Speaker 6: I see that a lot with like my teenage population,
- 23:14Speaker 6: with you know, good families or you know, they want
- 23:18Speaker 6: to have morals. And then of course, like social media
- 23:21Speaker 6: on top of that and tons of you know issues
- 23:24Speaker 6: there with parents and do I give them a phone,
- 23:27Speaker 6: do I let them have social media or not? And
- 23:29Speaker 6: then they don't you know, kind of fit in. They
- 23:33Speaker 6: don't have this sense of belonging, and it is it's
- 23:35Speaker 6: a really it's a it's a battle to choose, like
- 23:38Speaker 6: do I want to have my identity in Christ or
- 23:40Speaker 6: do I want to have it in the world and
- 23:41Speaker 6: fit in with the world.
- 23:42Speaker 3: And that's hard.
- 23:43Speaker 6: And I do love that we are, you know, children
- 23:46Speaker 6: of God. And you know, he says, you know, that
- 23:49Speaker 6: were loved and that were treasured and that we're cherished.
- 23:51Speaker 3: And the trials they do they.
- 23:54Speaker 6: Produce you know, you know in James like character and
- 23:58Speaker 6: endurance and all the things that it is for our good,
- 24:02Speaker 6: even the hard things are.
- 24:03Speaker 3: For our good. And I you know you true, did
- 24:07Speaker 3: you mentioned the base?
- 24:09Speaker 6: Sometimes that gets confusing with the relationship with our parents
- 24:12Speaker 6: or with our dad, and that's true, and then more
- 24:15Speaker 6: confusion can come from you know, how God was talked
- 24:20Speaker 6: about in church and their upbringing of you know, he's
- 24:23Speaker 6: a very critical or he's very harsh, and he's brutal.
- 24:27Speaker 6: And you know, what does the fear of God mean
- 24:30Speaker 6: versus like doesn't mean just like an awe and a
- 24:33Speaker 6: reverence of God. And you know, I always people talk
- 24:36Speaker 6: about God as this you know, really punishing, harsh. You know,
- 24:40Speaker 6: I look at how many times in the Old Testament.
- 24:43Speaker 6: He would talk about his wrath because of what was
- 24:46Speaker 6: going on. Then was like, but I'm going to withhold
- 24:48Speaker 6: it because I love you and I'm just there's so
- 24:51Speaker 6: many times, over and over again, it's like when you
- 24:54Speaker 6: finish the book, he is like, and I'm going to
- 24:57Speaker 6: restore you, and I'm going to bring you back to me.
- 25:00Speaker 6: That is who he is as a father. He never
- 25:04Speaker 6: leaves us, and he makes.
- 25:05Speaker 7: A covenant with us for no reason that we've done,
- 25:10Speaker 7: just because he wants us so badly to be with him,
- 25:14Speaker 7: and so to always back to us, to always.
- 25:17Speaker 3: Restore you know Israel, but us too.
- 25:20Speaker 2: You know, you know that's good. That's good. So look
- 25:24Speaker 2: at the verse one more time, get one more around.
- 25:26Speaker 2: So rejoice always and then pray without ceasing. In everything
- 25:31Speaker 2: give thanks. So we're not thanking God for the flat tire,
- 25:34Speaker 2: but I'm thanking God I have a card that has
- 25:36Speaker 2: a flat tire to fix. But in every situation, if
- 25:41Speaker 2: we my dad us to say, count your blessings right,
- 25:43Speaker 2: but rejoice always, pray without ceasing, and everything give thanks
- 25:47Speaker 2: for this is the will of God. So that rejoicing
- 25:49Speaker 2: always you just there's always things to rejoice over. Again,
- 25:52Speaker 2: there's some things in your world situation that we're definitely
- 25:55Speaker 2: not happy with and we're not even be okay with,
- 25:57Speaker 2: and we need to deal with it. But there's still
- 25:59Speaker 2: a lot we can rejoice over, and I think this
- 26:01Speaker 2: helps our mental health. Again, the show is mental health matters,
- 26:05Speaker 2: so keeping things in perspective. So again, sometimes we focus.
- 26:09Speaker 2: You mentioned that word focus earlier, Trudy. Sometimes we're focusing
- 26:13Speaker 2: on the problem so much we don't see all the
- 26:15Speaker 2: blessings and all the things that rejoice over. So we'll
- 26:18Speaker 2: go around one more time that rejoicing always and in
- 26:22Speaker 2: everything gives thanks. Thoughts on that.
- 26:26Speaker 6: I like that it says this is the will of God,
- 26:31Speaker 6: you know, I think when we think about.
- 26:33Speaker 3: It, I love that it can be so simple.
- 26:37Speaker 6: Of course, it's not simple, because it takes a lot
- 26:39Speaker 6: of work on ourselves to be rejoicing and praying without ceasing.
- 26:44Speaker 6: There's a lot that goes into that, but it's not
- 26:48Speaker 6: always so complicated. The will of God in our lives
- 26:50Speaker 6: has a lot to do with our relationship with Him
- 26:53Speaker 6: and who we are.
- 26:54Speaker 3: And so yeah, it's good perfect, you know.
- 26:58Speaker 5: I think, you know, looking at the verse, people may
- 27:00Speaker 5: be watching and saying I can't find anything to rejoice,
- 27:03Speaker 5: and I can't find anything to be thankful.
- 27:04Speaker 4: How what do I do? You know?
- 27:06Speaker 5: And the thing I want to encourage people to do
- 27:08Speaker 5: is to open up God's word. And if you can't
- 27:13Speaker 5: find something to be thankful for, you can't rejoice, read
- 27:16Speaker 5: his word back to him. And as you read, like,
- 27:19Speaker 5: open up the book of Psalms and Proverbs and start
- 27:21Speaker 5: reading those words back, and that alone is going to
- 27:24Speaker 5: start changing the atmosphere.
- 27:26Speaker 4: And I guarantee you that as you start.
- 27:29Speaker 5: Reading those words out loud, that your atmosphere is going
- 27:32Speaker 5: to change and it's going to shift, and you're going
- 27:34Speaker 5: to find one or two things that you can rejoice in,
- 27:37Speaker 5: and you can find one or two.
- 27:39Speaker 4: Things to be thankful for.
- 27:40Speaker 5: But a lot of times we have to get out
- 27:42Speaker 5: of our flesh, we have to get out of our head.
- 27:44Speaker 5: And we do that by opening up His word, which
- 27:46Speaker 5: is life and it's giving, and it's sharper than any
- 27:49Speaker 5: double edged sword. And so a lot of times I
- 27:52Speaker 5: don't even know what to pray because life seems so heavy.
- 27:54Speaker 5: But God's word praying back into the atmosphere is so powerful.
- 27:58Speaker 5: So for those watching who can feel like I just
- 28:01Speaker 5: can't open up God's word because he can.
- 28:05Speaker 3: I love that fill in the atmosphere with it. That's good.
- 28:08Speaker 2: That's good. That's good, really good. Well, the best thing
- 28:12Speaker 2: we can do is pray with and for our viewers. Shelby,
- 28:14Speaker 2: if you want to start, Trudy, and then I'll close
- 28:16Speaker 2: quick short prayer to bless our viewers.
- 28:18Speaker 3: Heavenly, Father God.
- 28:19Speaker 6: I just lift I lift this time up to God,
- 28:23Speaker 6: and I just asked that you know, seeds would be planted,
- 28:25Speaker 6: people would feel seen and heard, Lord, and that they
- 28:28Speaker 6: would know that you're in the midst of this and
- 28:31Speaker 6: that you are here delivering a message for each and
- 28:35Speaker 6: every one of us, that you're an active agent in
- 28:37Speaker 6: our lives. And God, we just we love you. And
- 28:40Speaker 6: I pray that anyone hearing this would be blessed by it.
- 28:45Speaker 8: And Father, I thank you that you are King of
- 28:46Speaker 8: Kings and Lord of Lords. You're the great Redeemer, You're
- 28:49Speaker 8: the healer, you are the mighty King who loves us,
- 28:53Speaker 8: Father God. So for everyone listening today, I asked that
- 28:55Speaker 8: you send forth.
- 28:56Speaker 5: Your word and heal their hearts, Father God, heal their
- 28:59Speaker 5: emotions by God, if they are feeling unloved, unseen, Father God,
- 29:03Speaker 5: let them know that they are seen by the most
- 29:05Speaker 5: High God. Father God, I just ask that you send
- 29:08Speaker 5: forth your word and heal the atmosphere of those who
- 29:11Speaker 5: are hurting and struggling today. Father God, let them feel
- 29:13Speaker 5: your love, your peace, and your grace and your mercy
- 29:16Speaker 5: in Jesus' name.
- 29:19Speaker 2: Ay Man, I thank you Lord for Shelby and Trudy
- 29:21Speaker 2: and time for us to talk and let listen, let
- 29:23Speaker 2: those listen in and as we talked about our thought life, God,
- 29:27Speaker 2: you know it all together. And I pray that you
- 29:31Speaker 2: would help us to show away just bad thoughts, evil thoughts,
- 29:35Speaker 2: give us a healthy conviction about our thought life, maybe
- 29:38Speaker 2: even people fantasizing about things they shouldn't be fantasizing about.
- 29:41Speaker 2: So we know if we're obedient our thought lives, the
- 29:44Speaker 2: rest of our life will fall into order. And I
- 29:47Speaker 2: thank you that you do allow us to talk to
- 29:49Speaker 2: you and pray all day every day, and also to
- 29:54Speaker 2: show us and remind us the things to be thankful for,
- 29:56Speaker 2: the many, many, many blessings. We could be here all
- 29:58Speaker 2: day counting our blessings, so we say thank you, and
- 30:01Speaker 2: maybe we'd be a blessing to someone else when we
- 30:03Speaker 2: see someone else who's maybe spiraling or downcast, that we
- 30:07Speaker 2: might be that agent to encourage them and also help
- 30:10Speaker 2: them get plugged into a safe place to get received
- 30:13Speaker 2: good godly counsel. And we prayed us all in Jesus,
- 30:15Speaker 2: name a man a man amazing? How fast a half
- 30:20Speaker 2: an hour goes mine when talk about some stuff. But you,
- 30:24Speaker 2: ladies are amazing. Enjoy the rest of your day and
