Transcript
- 0:00Hey, y' all.
- 0:01You are listening to another episode of the Spiritual Homegirl podcast where we better self in spirit and make peace with the day through wisdom, education and practical, easy to follow tips.
- 0:09I am your host, Maria, your spiritual homegirl, who's also a mental health professional.
- 0:12And baby, today is a very interesting episode because today's episode is about everything I just told you in the last 18 seconds.
- 0:22The episode 600, 600 of them things since September 15, 2016.
- 0:29Episode 600 is going to be about how, you know you got a really good idea and it was inspired by yet another trademark thief.
- 0:35And I'm not gonna call this person out by name.
- 0:38Y' all know I don't use my platform to drag people.
- 0:41But episode 600 topic is so is so aligned, right?
- 0:48Because for the 600 episode of my podcast, I get a reminder of of how viable my work is.
- 0:58It's so viable that people want to be me even if they aren't me.
- 1:02People want to be Spiritual Homegirl even if they can't be Spiritual Homegirl because I have a fairly protected trademark.
- 1:08People would like to be Spiritual Homegirl because even though this has been in existence for nine years and a Google search will have me all over the results, people will disregard that and say, you know what?
- 1:17I like the name.
- 1:18I want to do what she's doing so bad in my own way, I'm going to take her name to do it.
- 1:22And that just let me know.
- 1:23I used to get really mad at the first.
- 1:25The first three people we on number 16 now.
- 1:27But the first three to four people, it's made me so mad because I'd be like, out of common courtesy, I wouldn't do that.
- 1:34I wouldn't take an idea that somebody has that's protected and say, you know what?
- 1:38I'm gonna take the chances of starting a brand and ultimately getting a snatch because I am so entitled, because I want to do this so bad.
- 1:46I've just never been in that.
- 1:47And honestly, if we're going to kick it from a spiritual standpoint, that lets me know, anybody that will steal something from you has an issue with lack of abundance, scarcity, mindset.
- 1:56Rather than making shake with your own name, rather than make it shake with doing your own type of content, creating a cool name that's true to you.
- 2:03You are so scared that you cannot have no motion on your own that you will use a name that's already been built for the last nine years.
- 2:11Legendary guest.
- 2:12Shut that back.
- 2:13Dick Gregory, Afia Ibamu.
- 2:16I've had Some really dope people that I've had on my podcast over the last nine years.
- 2:22I've done a lot of groundwork.
- 2:24I've been outside LA to Atlanta doing my thing, building up spiritual homegirl.
- 2:28So I can see why somebody would say, you know what?
- 2:30This is already established.
- 2:32I'm just gonna slide in here and say that this is who I am in my own way.
- 2:35And hopefully her people will want to fool with me because I am doing something similar.
- 2:40They're like, both of us right, what to say on Friday.
- 2:42I guess it's both ours.
- 2:44No, it's not.
- 2:45And now at this point, I just laugh because after 15 people coming up and trying to do what I do, literally the way I do it, with the name that I own, it's almost like I.
- 2:56It's almost like I'm not offended, but it's just like, y' all really want to put y' allself in these situations because I don't play about my ip.
- 3:02Y' all know me.
- 3:03Y' all know I defend my brain with my life.
- 3:05I'll exhaust every resource I got to get you up out of here.
- 3:08So I don't play when it comes to people stealing something that my ancestors have literally blessed for me to do.
- 3:14I don't play those kind of games.
- 3:16So episode 600 is going to be about protecting what is yours, protecting what is ancestrally guided for you to do, protecting what is ancestrally blessed and protected for you to do.
- 3:29And a lot of times, what I don't like about spirituality on social media over the last 15 to 16, 17 years.
- 3:36Well, realist is 2008.
- 3:38I've seen social media spirituality go from genuine community to cult followings, literal cult followings to influencers.
- 3:46Look at how pretty I look.
- 3:47Spirituality is an aesthetic.
- 3:49Then it turned back into cult following.
- 3:51Oh, I'm a spiritual influencer now.
- 3:53I'm going to tell you how to live your life.
- 3:55And now I want you to give me money so that I can survive.
- 3:58And off of you, off of you.
- 4:00I'm an energy harvester.
- 4:01I'm going to harvest you all the way through.
- 4:04And some of them folks still got followers and some of them got taken down is what it is.
- 4:07And now it's the copy paste era of social media spirituality.
- 4:12I don't care how fly you think you are, if you got a copy paste off of what somebody is doing to make you shake, you don't have no motion respectfully.
- 4:20And I know that doesn't sound very spiritual, but I've stopped being A bigger person a long time ago.
- 4:24Let's just call it what it is.
- 4:25Because the problem with copy paste society, whether it is a spirituality or now, is that people are so scared to be themselves, they'd rather be somebody else or a variation of somebody else.
- 4:35And we are so much better than that.
- 4:37God did not put you on earth and give you an abundance of talents and skills and gifts for you to go ride off somebody else because you want to get some motion in an online world that's a simulation
- 4:47anyway.
- 4:49It's crazy to me how people will do that.
- 4:53You got your own style, you have your own way of talking, your own way of dressing, your own way of kicking things.
- 4:58And you would rather do it like somebody else because it's working for them or because they have something that you like.
- 5:05Sometimes the SWOT analysis be doing too much, sometimes the SWAT turns into like again, copying.
- 5:11And there's nothing wrong with me personally, I don't do this, but there's nothing wrong with being inspired and looking at different creators for inspiration.
- 5:18Again, like I said, I don't have time to look at other people and I just don't.
- 5:24And to be honest, I'd rather just do things as best I can.
- 5:27There are folks that have been inspiring, but there's not a person on this earth that I can say, oh, they gave me the blueprint and on how exactly I want to talk, how I want to post.
- 5:36No, this is all me and me and my ancestors and God, that's it.
- 5:41Now what I will say though, we're going to get credit when credit is due.
- 5:44A lot of the, the boom with the social media spirituality is because of the hood, witch hood, which had a whole community and hood, which inspired a lot of women to do their own thing on these apps and
- 5:58she has her own lane and that's good for her.
- 6:01But I've seen a lot of copy pasting of people and it's like, you don't have to be that way.
- 6:08Now does people.
- 6:09Do people own concepts of spirituality?
- 6:11Do they own the law of attraction?
- 6:12Do they own manifestation?
- 6:13Do they own things that are in the cabalian?
- 6:15Do they own the four agreements?
- 6:17Do they own sacred geometry?
- 6:18They own Christianity?
- 6:20Do they own certain aspects of Buddhism?
- 6:22Do they, do they own certain prayers and things like that?
- 6:25No, the concepts themselves are here for everybody.
- 6:29And that's where I think people get it twisted.
- 6:30Like I remember someone saying, oh well, they're here.
- 6:33These, these things are here for everybody.
- 6:35To a degree, yes.
- 6:38I think the concepts are here for everybody.
- 6:40But how you uniquely deliver your knowledge or your wisdom or education or training on the matter, that is where it gets tricky.
- 6:49And that's where people be copying and pasting because they can't do it themselves.
- 6:53I've seen folks buy coaching programs and literally steal coaching programs off of folks and repackage it as their own.
- 7:00Seen people copy and paste captions on Instagram and do it as their own.
- 7:03Like, we've gone through this before.
- 7:05A lot of y' all have somebody out there now that's impostoring you now trying to scam, like the TikTok folks and the Instagram folks.
- 7:12They'll copy all your whole profiles and go into people's inbox and say, hey, sweetie dear, I see that you have a blessing and intuition.
- 7:19Told me to get you a reading and you can send me $35.
- 7:22Like we see now.
- 7:23Copy paste is easy because capitalism makes it seem like if you do what you got to do to get on, you'll be successful.
- 7:30Even if that's at the cost of backstabbing or portraying people that you know or people within your own community.
- 7:35Because if you going to keep it a buck.
- 7:37As embarrassing as I am to say it, it's just so embarrassing to say.
- 7:40But out of the 15 that's tried to steal spiritual homegirl from me and try to be spiritual homegirl who have told me, and I'm going to tell you how to how the cycle goes too, in a minute.
- 7:49But out of most of that 15, they've been black women.
- 7:52And as a black woman, I'm.
- 7:54I feel disrespected and I feel hurt not to where it's going to ruin what I got going on.
- 7:59It's going to stop my mission.
- 8:00Because don't nothing stop the mission because the catalog is there.
- 8:03We're here on episode 600.
- 8:05So it's not that, but what it is is it's like, wow.
- 8:08As a black woman creator, you would think that other black women creators would understand how hard you have to work to not only secure your idea, protect your idea, distribute your idea, maintain and sustain your idea, evolve and
- 8:22grow your idea.
- 8:23There's a lot of people that have not been doing what I've been doing for almost nine years.
- 8:27Some people get kind of burnt out over what, three year, three year four.
- 8:31They're like, okay, this is cool, I'm done.
- 8:32And some people just.
- 8:33They just dip out.
- 8:34But to not respect that type of work that another black woman will do and then be crying about how black women aren't respecting and things like that.
- 8:44You literally disrespect black women creators when you steal from them.
- 8:47So how can you say that you're a champion of black women and black people when you literally.
- 8:51Do you colonize an idea?
- 8:52You colonize.
- 8:54If somebody has an idea and you take it and you want to become that idea or you want to use that idea, you're a colonizer, black or not.
- 9:01And that's what people don't like to talk about.
- 9:03And yes, it's very much homegirl rant today.
- 9:05Vintage homegirl.
- 9:06Because I'm tired of seeing people do this.
- 9:09Not to mention I'm gonna speak up about it.
- 9:12Being the bigger person is out.
- 9:13I stopped being a bigger person a long time ago.
- 9:15Not because I wanted to be like, oh, I'm just this spiritual loving light.
- 9:21I've never been that type of spiritual person.
- 9:23I'm very much a person that's like, live your life, get your joy, be healthy, be happy, set your boundaries, and protect whatever you hold sacred in near and dear to you.
- 9:32This being said, you all spiritual homegirl.
- 9:34How I interact with y' all, that's sacred to me.
- 9:36And I defend this with whatever I got.
- 9:39So going back to the cycle, the cycle of how this stuff goes down, I'm gonna talk about it now.
- 9:45I remember being advised by lawyers not to.
- 9:47After 16 people trying to ste name.
- 9:49Let's just spill it all, shall we?
- 9:51The cycle usually goes like this.
- 9:53A woman gets an idea and she likes it.
- 9:56She says, oh, okay, I'mma be Spiritual Homegirl.
- 9:59She may or may not do a Google search.
- 10:00If she does, it obviously don't matter because now she'll start branding things as Spiritual Homegirl.
- 10:05I guess she could be the.
- 10:07I remember this one girl, she was Mexican.
- 10:09She was like, oh, you can be the black one, I can be the Mexican one.
- 10:11That's not how that's going to work, sis.
- 10:13And.
- 10:14But anyway, they'll take the name.
- 10:17They'll start branding it.
- 10:18One of y' all my boo friends all across the world.
- 10:21And I love y' all for that because y' all keep up on stuff that I don't have time to.
- 10:25And I'm really busy.
- 10:26I'm busy writing this book.
- 10:27I'm busy helping people.
- 10:29Literally boots on the ground helping people.
- 10:31And somebody tells me, yo, there's another person that is trying to use your name doing xyz.
- 10:37That's usually how it goes.
- 10:38Y' all will give me the drop.
- 10:39Y' all give me the links.
- 10:40So at this point, I'm gathering evidence for Whatever case I got, if I got to go sue them or take them to court.
- 10:45So at this point, I'm gathering evidence.
- 10:47I will always reach out kindly first, because sometimes you got to get the benefit of the doubt.
- 10:51You got to give grace.
- 10:52Some people may genuinely not know.
- 10:53Some people may just want to create stuff and not Google stuff.
- 10:56Couldn't be me, but I'll reach out and I'll say, yo, and I'm nice.
- 11:00I'm nice about it.
- 11:01I'll be like, peace, you know, because I come in peace.
- 11:03I always come in peace.
- 11:04Even my protection comes in peace, even if it doesn't come off that way.
- 11:08But I'll usually say, hey, I noticed that you're using my name spiritual homegirl for XYZ.
- 11:13I've owned this trademark since 2020 19.
- 11:17I put the application in 2018.
- 11:18I own in 2019.
- 11:19And I have been branding spiritual homegirl since 2016.
- 11:24And I'm kindly asking that you rebrand to avoid any type of future cease and desist illegal paperwork.
- 11:30And I'll say, you know, respectfully or kindly or, you know, thank you, you know, in, you know, Maria, owner, Spiritual hunger, whatever.
- 11:36Because I am the owner.
- 11:37I own Spiritual Homegirl.
- 11:39So that's what I'll say.
- 11:41And then I always, every single time, every single time, I think I said that back 99% with the exception of one time, one person was like, oh, my bad, sis.
- 11:51I'm so sorry.
- 11:52I didn't realize that.
- 11:53I didn't realize that's how federal law worked.
- 11:55I'm going to go ahead and change it.
- 11:56I'm so sorry.
- 11:57That's the only time everybody else, well, no, I got an attorney.
- 12:03The attorney told me I could use it.
- 12:05I'm like, that's a lie.
- 12:06That's a lie.
- 12:07Ain't no attorney they salt is going to put that license on the line and tell you that you could take a federally protected trademark and build a whole brand off of it.
- 12:15Because that's not how that works.
- 12:17You can't do that legally.
- 12:18You can't.
- 12:19So they'll usually lie and tell me that an attorney said it's okay for them to use it.
- 12:23Or they'll say, oh, I'm going to talk to an attorney and secure my intellectual property.
- 12:29You cannot secure what's already secure, babe.
- 12:32Like, you can't secure something I own.
- 12:34You're never going to be able to do that unless I expressly, explicitly give it to you.
- 12:38And even then, it still has to be federally done.
- 12:41Like, it's.
- 12:42It's ways it's ways to do that.
- 12:44Like, I would literally have to.
- 12:47Well, it ain't gonna happen, so we can't go into that.
- 12:49But there's no way that I would literally give somebody permission to use the trademark so that they could brand themselves.
- 12:57And not to mention the reason why I'm so protective of it is I don't know your ethics.
- 13:01I don't know how you get down.
- 13:02I don't know if you're a scammer.
- 13:03I don't know if you're using it to build a cult following to be a flock leader.
- 13:06I don't know what you got going on to where I don't want any confusion of anybody thinking I'm associated with you at all.
- 13:12You could be a good person, but I don't know you like that.
- 13:15So, no, I'm not going to tie my brain into somebody else's and be like, okay, well, this is the spiritual homegirl in California, and I'm the spiritual homegirl in Atlanta.
- 13:22That's not going to work.
- 13:24So to me, I shut down as best I can all confusion so that people understand who I am in the brand that I built, and that's not that same brand.
- 13:33And I don't want any confusion with that.
- 13:36So they'll usually say, no, I'm not going to change the name.
- 13:38And I'm like, all right, cool.
- 13:40At that point, we have nothing to talk about.
- 13:42If you're not going to change the name after I clearly tell you and I show you that this is where I own the name legally, then we're not going to talk about it anymore.
- 13:50But I know that at this point, whatever happens at this point happens.
- 13:54And usually I get an attorney, I shut them down, and then they accuse me of doing rich craft.
- 13:59But that's not until after they do some kind of spiritual work or spiritual intercessor work, ancestral intercessor work, thinking that's going to protect them.
- 14:06If you have anything type of spiritual compass, whether it is the 42 laws of my eye, where it's the 10 commandments, whatever it is, stealing is wrong in virtually every type of religious or spiritual system.
- 14:18It's.
- 14:19It's unethical.
- 14:20You're stealing.
- 14:21It's not right.
- 14:22It's usually frowned upon.
- 14:24So what I never understood is that when the ones who would never understood never understand where I was coming from, or they just didn't want to, or they would just tell me flat out, no, I'm not rebranding.
- 14:32Do what you got to do.
- 14:33I'm like, all right, baby, that arrogance, Eric, is gonna hurt.
- 14:36Cause you're gonna keep building that brand, and once it gets snatched, you're gonna be mad at me.
- 14:39But they always do some protection work afterwards.
- 14:44And I always wonder if you really was ethical and you really was at peace with what you was doing.
- 14:48You wouldn't need to do no bath.
- 14:49You wouldn't need to do no spell.
- 14:50You wouldn't need to do no ancestral intercessor intercessor work.
- 14:54And you wouldn't to do no type of prayers or no cow tongues or whatever you did to try to protect yourself.
- 14:58And these are things that have actually happened.
- 15:00I remember this one chick thought she was gonna send me a message.
- 15:02All I did was get that as evidence.
- 15:04Thank you very much for showing me that.
- 15:06You gonna put my name in a cow tongue for legal.
- 15:09For legal stuff and try to somehow freeze me in a freezer, not realizing that what you're doing is you starting to activate some stuff on your own.
- 15:16Because I'm telling you that my work is ancestrally protected now.
- 15:20You're playing with some stuff that's above you.
- 15:22So it's like, okay, you want to play these games and play these spiritual games and use spirituality to protect you stealing, which is already wrong anyway.
- 15:32And then you're surprised when everything blows up in your face because I'm not playing with you.
- 15:38We can talk about it now, because the majority of the 15, everything has been handled.
- 15:43But I just never understood why people do that.
- 15:45Y' all sit there.
- 15:46When I say y' all, I mean them.
- 15:4815, 16, y' all will sit there and take people's stuff, and they'll tell you, hey, that don't belong to you.
- 15:56And you'll say, nope, I'm gonna take it anyway.
- 15:58It's mine now.
- 15:59And then when somebody literally snatches everything up under, then it's like, oh, you attack me.
- 16:04And I never understood that.
- 16:05To steal from somebody, to steal somebody's ideas, to steal somebody's money, to steal somebody's man, woman, person, to steal a purse, a bag, some clothes, to steal that from another person, you've already been on the attack.
- 16:20You're the.
- 16:20You're on the attack.
- 16:21You're the attacker.
- 16:22And when somebody does something back to rectify or adjust the scales of balance and power or put you in a position to where you kind of have to atone by force because now you don't have anything because they
- 16:33took it back from you.
- 16:34Now it's, oh, y' all attack me.
- 16:36And I'm over that.
- 16:37I've seen that.
- 16:38So Much on social media.
- 16:39People will literally throw the first rock at you and then get mad when the mountain come back on them.
- 16:44You probably shouldn't have thrown the froze rock.
- 16:45You probably should have thought about it first.
- 16:47You probably should have been like, you know what?
- 16:48I need to cut my losses.
- 16:49But because of our society, we so dang on proud and we're so stubborn and, and we're so entitled, we will think that everybody else's advice, even if it's to help them, even if it's against a person that we
- 17:01know we stolen from, we'll still think that they're wrong somehow.
- 17:04Imma do what I want to do.
- 17:05And that's exactly what gets everybody screwed up in the game.
- 17:10That pride coming before the fall is very much real.
- 17:14And people think they could throw a slam at folks and do all kinds of spiritual stuff that hurt people not even realizing they don't even know what they dealing with.
- 17:19You don't even know what kind of stuff people is dealing with.
- 17:22And so episode 600 is this.
- 17:26Never be afraid to defend what you know is rightfully yours.
- 17:29Fight for what's yours by any means necessary.
- 17:33Don't let anybody see or interfere with your intellectual property.
- 17:37Don't let anybody interfere in your relationships, your marriage, the relationships with your children.
- 17:42Don't let anybody play with you on your job.
- 17:44Don't let people think they could play with you, period.
- 17:47Am I saying go love and hip hop and throw drinks and get the supporter strap up and all kinds of stuff?
- 17:52No, I'm not saying that.
- 17:53But the era of bullying is over.
- 17:57The era of just being a bully, thinking that you could do whatever you want to do.
- 18:01The era of.
- 18:02Of shooting first and playing victim later, that's out.
- 18:05The veil is pretty much the veil over with.
- 18:08Everybody keep saying the veil is getting thinner and thinner.
- 18:10What if I told y' all all of this mess?
- 18:13What?
- 18:13The veil is done, okay?
- 18:15We're seeing a lot of crap for what it is.
- 18:17It's a lot of mess going on that is harmful to people.
- 18:20We always say, you know, God is love, God's love.
- 18:23And even with Christianity, you know, there's love, there's love, there's love.
- 18:27But there are so many hateful things that we do to each other.
- 18:29We backstab each other, we attack each other, we fight each other, and we somehow don't see that we perpetuate some of the mess that hurts the people next to us.
- 18:40So I'm over it.
- 18:41So I'm gonna call it how I see it moving forward.
- 18:44So with that being said, going back to why I decided to do episode 600, because I was inspired even by the.
- 18:49By the tfin, as my elders would say, by the tfin of my name.
- 18:55Don't let people play with you.
- 18:57Stop wanting to look like the bigger person at the expense of your self esteem and your self respect and your peace of mind.
- 19:05Stand up for yourself.
- 19:06Never be afraid to protect what you know deep down in your heart is sacred.
- 19:11Because what's sacred is yours.
- 19:13So I just wanted to put that on you all's heart today.
- 19:15So let's catch up.
- 19:17I've been busy writing a book and adjusting to some very awesome life changes, right?
- 19:22And I have not been on camera as much as I would like to be.
- 19:26But homegirl's here and the red dress is coming.
- 19:30I know I've been talking about that rages for the longest, but I'm like, oh my gosh, look, I'll be looking at me like girl, but shout out to hubby but.
- 19:40But yeah, the red dress is coming soon and I will be doing other episodes.
- 19:45The perversion episode is coming up and for those who don't know, on my broadcast channel on Instagram, we were talking about how there's perversions in virtually every aspect of life.
- 19:53And I was inspired by some things I saw in the news and things of that nature.
- 19:57A lot of stuff we live in.
- 20:00It's a, it's a odd thing, right?
- 20:02It's, it's like we have these black and white rules for how to conduct ourselves, but managing the gray seems easier said than done.
- 20:15Like again, like I said how the black and white rule is, you know, oh, somebody attacked me, they attacked me back.
- 20:22And then it's the gray area of well, what did you do that started it?
- 20:27That's what people don't like talking about, the gray.
- 20:29So the perversion of things is the gray example.
- 20:32I'll give you a little sneak peek.
- 20:34So the perversion of again, social media spirituality, the example I gave you earlier, people are so fake spiritual.
- 20:40They'll say, oh well, these ideas are for everybody.
- 20:43And even though you own it and you're able to do business with it, it should be for everybody.
- 20:48That is an example of spiritual bypassing gaslighting and also how people will pervert the idea of abundance to say that because you have created something from your God given talents, again, abundance and gifts, that they should be entitled
- 21:03to it because they want a piece of it, cuz they like it.
- 21:07So it's, it's a difference between wanting to help with the mission and wanting to just colonize it.
- 21:12But so.
- 21:13Well, that's how we.
- 21:14That's how we kind of do as a society.
- 21:17We kind of like some and then we colonize it.
- 21:18The line dances.
- 21:19I've seen line dances get colonized.
- 21:21I've seen other people ideas get colonized.
- 21:24The pop.
- 21:25The balloon idea, that.
- 21:26That was colonized.
- 21:27There's a million pot.
- 21:28The balloons now I forgot who was the owner.
- 21:30I had to do my research to determine who actually came up with that idea first.
- 21:34There's just so many perversions.
- 21:37And again, never be afraid to defend what's yours.
- 21:41And it's always going to be light and love here, but it's never going to be pushover or doormat ever.
- 21:46It never gave that in 2016.
- 21:48It never gave that in 2015 when I was sketching the ideas out of how I want to launch.
- 21:52And it definitely ain't giving doormat or pushover in 2025.
- 21:58So I just wanted to again, put down each other's hearts.
- 22:01Times are too rough right now to be getting knocked down.
- 22:03Times are too hard to not defend yourself.
- 22:04Times too hard not to protect yourself.
- 22:06So by all means, do what you got to do.
- 22:09So that's episode 600.
- 22:10So with that being said, y' all, I thank y' all for listening.
- 22:13Y' all could have listened to any other podcast, but y' all chose listen to mine.
- 22:16So y' all know I gotta do my usual gratitude notes.
- 22:18Thank you all for listening.
- 22:20Out of the tens of thousands of podcasts out there in podcast land, you've chosen to limit your ears every episode for 600 of them things.
- 22:28Those episodes since September 15, 2016, whenever you feel like tapping in with your girl.
- 22:32And I really appreciate that from the UK too, the United States to South Africa to Korea to Japan.
- 22:38I appreciate y' all for listening to your girl, and it means so much to me.
- 22:42And I look forward to to speaking more in the future.
- 22:46So don't forget, 601 will be about the perversions of everyday life that we don't quite realize.
- 22:51So with that being said, y' all, this has been another episode of the Spiritual Homegirl podcast.
- 22:55My name is Maria, your spiritual homegirl, the only spiritual homegirl that can be a spiritual homegirl per the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

- 23:11Okay?

- 23:13Peace.
