- 0:00Speaker 1: The popcorn moment. Let's go, let's go, let's not tell.
- 0:03Speaker 1: If the story you need to hear to believe, then
- 0:04Speaker 1: grab your popcorn. Because there's more. So we know that
- 0:08Speaker 1: the storm is coming, we know we're gonna get nineteen
- 0:10Speaker 1: hundred feet of snow, We're gonna have freezing cold temperatures.
- 0:13Speaker 1: We of course had to postpone Trump. One year later,
- 0:16Speaker 1: my events at the Higatt Regency rescheduled for February twenty eighth.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Everything is still happening. But I'm serious. I now need
- 0:24Speaker 1: I'm at the place where I need a snowblower, and
- 0:25Speaker 1: I have no idea what to get. I have no
- 0:27Speaker 1: idea what two stage means. I have no idea on
- 0:30Speaker 1: a whole bunch of how you handle the cold. So
- 0:33Speaker 1: I call the expert. But Denny Smith was busy, So
- 0:37Speaker 1: Pat Sullivan joins me right now from Sullivan Hardware and
- 0:40Speaker 1: Gardensullivan Hardware dot Com. Now, if I understand it right,
- 0:45Speaker 1: you don't do you sell snowblowers?
- 0:49Speaker 2: You know we should know we do not.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Okay, so that's a that's a but you know about snowblowers.
- 0:55Speaker 2: I do know about snowblowers, and I'm for you, Tony
- 0:59Speaker 2: I would get a battery operated snowblower. I think for
- 1:02Speaker 2: most homeowners in the technology and the batteries, like looking
- 1:07Speaker 2: at an ego product that has batteries that you never
- 1:11Speaker 2: have to worry. The problem with snowblowers and gas engines
- 1:14Speaker 2: in general is sometimes us homeowners we forget to remove
- 1:19Speaker 2: the gas over the winner and when we're done with
- 1:22Speaker 2: them and all that stuff, so then they don't start
- 1:24Speaker 2: the next time you need them. So with a battery
- 1:27Speaker 2: for a homeowner, perfect fit, especially for you, Tony.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Okay, Wow, you're saying that I'm not capable of draining
- 1:35Speaker 1: the gas and of maintaining a snowblower properly.
- 1:38Speaker 2: That's what I'm saying about you. Now, I know you
- 1:40Speaker 2: have people, so possibly you could assign that job to
- 1:44Speaker 2: the pool boy at your place that you must also
- 1:48Speaker 2: add that to his list of duties.
- 1:50Speaker 1: First, I'm going to need a pool. But I think
- 1:53Speaker 1: the question with the battery stuff versus like because there's
- 1:56Speaker 1: a whole single stage, two stage conversation I'd love for
- 1:58Speaker 1: you to go over with me about the gas snowblowers.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Are the batteries strong enough to handle what snow? This
- 2:05Speaker 1: is supposed to be more powdery, so maybe it can.
- 2:07Speaker 1: But can the battery actually handle the wet snow that
- 2:10Speaker 1: we sometimes get.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, they perform really well. The battery technology in
- 2:15Speaker 2: the last ten years has just skyrocket. I mean, you
- 2:20Speaker 2: can buy a zero turned lawnmower fifty four inch that
- 2:25Speaker 2: is battery and we'll will on one charge will do
- 2:29Speaker 2: two acres. So I mean it's really not a stretch
- 2:33Speaker 2: for the snowblower. A battery and the nice thing is
- 2:37Speaker 2: battery goes down, you just pop in another one. You
- 2:39Speaker 2: might have two or three batteries and you're charging them.
- 2:42Speaker 2: You pop it in and you just keep on going.
- 2:44Speaker 2: It's just the ease of maintenance is I think superior
- 2:48Speaker 2: in the battery for I'm yeah, I'm not talking about
- 2:53Speaker 2: you know, commercial guys. I'm talking about homeowners.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Talking to Pat Sullivan, Solvent Hardware and Garden really quick.
- 2:59Speaker 1: The single stage this is a two stage thing. I
- 3:01Speaker 1: think I've got it. Break it down for me.
- 3:04Speaker 2: You know what two stage would be. I would say,
- 3:07Speaker 2: if you're in Buffalo, they'll probably only sell two stage snowblowers.
- 3:11Speaker 2: But for us, that where we just don't get the amount. Now,
- 3:15Speaker 2: obviously this is a big snow coming I'm not sure
- 3:17Speaker 2: that I would invest in a two stage just because
- 3:20Speaker 2: of you know, once every five, five, seven years. But
- 3:24Speaker 2: the two stage you'll get more lyft and you'll get
- 3:27Speaker 2: more throw off of it. But generally for us as
- 3:30Speaker 2: single stage is generally fine for most people.
- 3:33Speaker 1: So the single stage is when you're collecting the snow,
- 3:36Speaker 1: that's the power being used to correct throw it. The
- 3:39Speaker 1: two stage has a separate system for basically blowing the
- 3:42Speaker 1: snow out, So one is collecting and one is pointed
- 3:45Speaker 1: out to set things, do things. The thing that we're
- 3:52Speaker 1: not focusing on is the freezing temperatures. I mean we're
- 3:54Speaker 1: at eleven degrees right now. This is the stuff where
- 3:57Speaker 1: pipes freeze.
- 3:58Speaker 2: You know.
- 3:58Speaker 1: I had that happen to me pipes first when I
- 4:00Speaker 1: was on vacation, and the damage was incredible. Came back
- 4:05Speaker 1: to a flood water pouring out of the ceiling. Now
- 4:09Speaker 1: it's a weekend, most people are going to be home
- 4:11Speaker 1: and around, and heat's going to be running. The advice
- 4:14Speaker 1: for how you handle pipes in weather this cold.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Well, for example, we have a little pool house and
- 4:20Speaker 2: I thought, well, I better go check the pool house,
- 4:23Speaker 2: and sure enough, the heat had stopped and there was
- 4:27Speaker 2: ice in the toilet, so I shut the water off.
- 4:29Speaker 2: I opened the valves, drained them, and put a small
- 4:34Speaker 2: heater in there, and that will be fine. So anybody
- 4:37Speaker 2: that has pipes on the outside wall is the ones
- 4:41Speaker 2: that are in danger. So on those you'll want to
- 4:45Speaker 2: make sure you open up the cabinets, open up the
- 4:47Speaker 2: vanity so you can allow heat to get in there.
- 4:50Speaker 2: It doesn't take much, but doing that little bitty thing
- 4:54Speaker 2: generally will stop a freezing pipe situation.
- 4:58Speaker 1: And do you drip?
- 4:59Speaker 2: Are you?
- 4:59Speaker 1: Are you a drip the faucet.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Guy, I'm a dripper. I'm a dripper. If I can't
- 5:04Speaker 2: get to the pipes when I open the cabinet, if
- 5:07Speaker 2: the pipes have not been exposed inside the cabinet and
- 5:11Speaker 2: they're actually in the outside wall, which is really dumb,
- 5:14Speaker 2: then I'm a dripper.
- 5:16Speaker 1: By the way, the amount of people who forget to
- 5:18Speaker 1: open the cabinets, which is just you're just making it
- 5:21Speaker 1: easier for the heat to get there. That's that's all
- 5:23Speaker 1: you have to do. The outside hose bids. A lot
- 5:27Speaker 1: of people already turn that stuff off when they get
- 5:30Speaker 1: ready for winter. You may have things that can handle
- 5:34Speaker 1: the frost et cetera. But when we're talking about temperatures
- 5:36Speaker 1: that was we're in right now, we've had already where
- 5:39Speaker 1: you're in the zero degree five degree range. Do you
- 5:43Speaker 1: cover those things up? Do you wrap them up? Do
- 5:45Speaker 1: you just be like, you know what, we're going to
- 5:46Speaker 1: leave it, we'll deal with it in the spring.
- 5:48Speaker 2: What do you do? The main thing is to disconnect
- 5:51Speaker 2: the hose if you happen to have a hose still
- 5:53Speaker 2: on there and then not really necessary. Most of them
- 5:57Speaker 2: are now frostproof valves, so the valves are actually extending
- 6:00Speaker 2: from the extra wall in about twelve inches into your home,
- 6:04Speaker 2: so generally that that's where the water is so it
- 6:07Speaker 2: will not freeze. But it can be a problem if
- 6:09Speaker 2: you leave a hose on if you're in a really
- 6:11Speaker 2: old house that has not been updated, then yes, those
- 6:14Speaker 2: you should put a little styrofoam cup on them. And
- 6:17Speaker 2: you can buy those at any hardware store.
- 6:20Speaker 1: That is Pat Sullivan, Sullivan Hardware and Gardensullivan Hardware dot com.
- 6:26Speaker 1: He's got a list of locations. If you want to
- 6:28Speaker 1: know what they are, ask Allison Lemons. I'm not about
- 6:30Speaker 1: to go through that list. I'm just I don't blame
- 6:32Speaker 1: it way too way too way too busy. It's just
- 6:35Speaker 1: so many locations, so little time. That's Pat Sullivan. Hey,
- 6:40Speaker 1: thanks man, I appreciate you being up summarily.
- 6:42Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I'm on my way to pilates right now.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Are you all right?
- 6:47Speaker 2: That's good. It's good a man.
- 6:49Speaker 1: You could use a good grain stretch.
- 6:51Speaker 2: Yeah, thank you very much. That's what I'm gonna do.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Go get them battery snowblower.
- 6:57Speaker 2: Okay, all right, you sold me.
- 6:58Speaker 1: I'll give it a go.
- 7:00Speaker 2: We'll give it a go.
- 7:00Speaker 1: I'm buying today. I'm buying today. Pat Salban, thank you, man,
- 7:03Speaker 1: I appreciate it.
