- 0:12SPEAKER_02: What's up everyone?
- 0:13SPEAKER_02: Welcome back to Kids in the Calling Podcast, where none of us are kids, but we all have a calling.
- 0:17SPEAKER_02: And that's the point you put a D list.
- 0:18SPEAKER_02: I'm your host, Audrey on Joe.
- 0:20SPEAKER_02: With me and Tut and Walton.
- 0:21SPEAKER_05: Hey guys.
- 0:22SPEAKER_02: Rancy Padley.
- 0:23SPEAKER_02: Hey, and Lucas.
- 0:24SPEAKER_05: Hey.
- 0:24SPEAKER_02: So guys, um, sorry I missed last week, but you guys did a great job.
- 0:28SPEAKER_02: Um Thank you so much.
- 0:31SPEAKER_02: So for the opening question for today.
- 0:33SPEAKER_02: This one I think we've all heard.
- 0:35SPEAKER_02: I don't know if they've ever answered it.
- 0:36SPEAKER_02: True or false, it's better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.
- 0:41SPEAKER_05: True.
- 0:42SPEAKER_02: True, okay.
- 0:44SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, by the way, guys, we're doing three questions today, so it's like one answer each person, like for all of them.
- 0:52SPEAKER_06: I guess true.
- 0:53SPEAKER_06: I'd I'll follow the crowd.
- 0:56SPEAKER_02: That was five words.
- 0:57SPEAKER_06: Not have an original answer.
- 0:59SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:00SPEAKER_02: Um what?
- 1:01SPEAKER_02: Okay, so one word only.
- 1:03SPEAKER_02: What is the best achievement in your life?
- 1:06SPEAKER_05: Graduating.
- 1:11SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: Maybe it's just a baby seed.
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: I am.
- 1:15SPEAKER_02: Um wait, Audrey, you also didn't answer the last question.
- 1:21SPEAKER_02: Okay, so my answer to the last question um is true.
- 1:24SPEAKER_02: It is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.
- 1:26SPEAKER_02: My answer to this question is um getting baptized.
- 1:31SPEAKER_06: That's a good one.
- 1:35SPEAKER_06: What is a God?
- 1:39SPEAKER_01: Straight up.
- 1:40SPEAKER_05: That's a good answer, man.
- 1:41SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:41SPEAKER_01: Um, I literally don't know.
- 1:44SPEAKER_05: Ramsey's never had it anyway.
- 1:45SPEAKER_01: What have I achieved in my life?
- 1:47SPEAKER_05: You're on this podcast.
- 1:49SPEAKER_01: A podcast.
- 1:51SPEAKER_01: A um, I don't know, guys.
- 1:55SPEAKER_01: This is like I'm on the spot.
- 1:56SPEAKER_02: Just say working or something.
- 1:58SPEAKER_01: Working.
- 1:58SPEAKER_01: Oh, wait, okay, I guess I'll just say like running whole conferences.
- 2:01SPEAKER_02: It's actually um one word media.
- 2:04SPEAKER_02: Good.
- 2:06SPEAKER_02: So um you guys were there, I think, on Sunday yesterday, when Pastor Jared did his word on God Can.
- 2:15SPEAKER_02: He was continuing the series, and he did it on new season, new pattern.
- 2:18SPEAKER_02: So, what did you guys think of that?
- 2:19SPEAKER_05: It was another really good message, and I think um one of the more impactful messages that he's preached really, I agree.
- 2:28SPEAKER_05: Just because we've been kind of going over this this theme throughout the messages for God can.
- 2:33SPEAKER_05: It's been dealing a lot with faith.
- 2:35SPEAKER_05: And it's pretty apparent in the words that he's been speaking through us, not just through Pastor Jared, but as a whole, that God's trying to take our church, point church, to a new level.
- 2:45SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 2:46SPEAKER_05: And for our church to get to a new level, we individually will have to go to a new level.
- 2:50SPEAKER_05: And this message really hit on the head of that.
- 2:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 2:53SPEAKER_05: It was about, I mean, core theme, just a thousand foot overview before we dive into it.
- 2:58SPEAKER_05: To get to a new place, you can't keep doing the same things over and over.
- 3:02SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 3:02SPEAKER_05: So we talk about it.
- 3:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 3:04SPEAKER_02: Um, I really liked how he opened up and he was he said the definition of insanity.
- 3:09SPEAKER_02: And he was like, the defin is that a saying?
- 3:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 3:11SPEAKER_02: It was a saying that he said.
- 3:13SPEAKER_02: So it's the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
- 3:18SPEAKER_02: So he was explaining how this can reply to reply, apply to like relationships, um, situations, bad habits, like just anything like that.
- 3:27SPEAKER_02: And he was saying how like if we want different results in a situation, then something has to change.
- 3:33SPEAKER_02: It's not necessarily just an outward thing.
- 3:36SPEAKER_02: Like, just because you get put in a new situation doesn't necessarily mean that it can be different from the one you were just in.
- 3:42SPEAKER_02: Just because it looks different on the outside.
- 3:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 3:45SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 3:45SPEAKER_05: Or you can go into a new situation, like you were just saying, and then it doesn't change because you didn't change.
- 3:51SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 3:52SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 3:52SPEAKER_05: Um, it could be like he gave an example of just like a new job or a new school, new environment, better environment.
- 3:59SPEAKER_05: Everything around you could be better, it could be a door God open for you.
- 4:02SPEAKER_05: But if you aren't willing to make that change with the new season, with the new environment, you can kind of warp the change around you back to the old thing.
- 4:11SPEAKER_05: You can bring it back because you never let go of the old patterns.
- 4:14SPEAKER_06: Keeping that same internal expectation, bringing it into new places, like you said, is bad for us.
- 4:20SPEAKER_06: You know, we have to make sure that we are not insane.
- 4:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:25SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it's like if you're since we have a bunch of teenagers that listen, if you're super insecure in a relationship sense, and that's just that's who you are.
- 4:37SPEAKER_05: You got some things you gotta work through, and you keep trying to go from person to person, new person, new relationship, you think it's gonna get better.
- 4:43SPEAKER_05: That external factor is not gonna change the fact that you are you need some therapy.
- 4:47SPEAKER_05: Yeah, you gotta some prayer and some counsel first.
- 4:54SPEAKER_05: Yeah, maybe some wise counsel.
- 4:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah, another thing he had said that I really liked, did I just say that right?
- 5:00SPEAKER_02: Really something really liked was um he was saying, like, we ask and pray for something new, but when we get there, when God brings us to a new place, we are still trying to make the new thing feel like the old one.
- 5:12SPEAKER_02: And I like when he said that because it's so true, it's kind of eye-opening.
- 5:15SPEAKER_02: Like you can beg God to take you out of a situation or a relationship or just out of a habit or break this habit or whatever, but we keep running back to it, sometimes not even realizing, just because it's what's comfortable and it's what's familiar.
- 5:28SPEAKER_02: But he said, God cannot deliver you from something if you keep living like you were bound to it.
- 5:33SPEAKER_02: And I thought that was really good because it's kind of like we don't mean to.
- 5:38SPEAKER_02: A lot of times we're not purposely trying to hold on to something and cling to something that we know is wrong for us or that we know we need to escape from.
- 5:45SPEAKER_02: It's just what we naturally go to because it's what we've maybe always done, or it's what's become a habit in our life.
- 5:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and he was just explaining how like God can do more in your life than just open the doors.
- 5:55SPEAKER_02: Like, yes, if you pray for it, God can find you a way out, but he can do more than that.
- 6:00SPEAKER_02: He can lead you out and he can change you from the inside.
- 6:03SPEAKER_02: And that's its own part of the message, but we'll get to that in a second.
- 6:07SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and it's like I really like that because it's like once you're saved, once God's spirit is in you, you have the power over whatever situation it was, whatever addiction, whatever circumstance it was.
- 6:19SPEAKER_05: You I like what you said that um God can free you and you can still return to it.
- 6:24SPEAKER_05: Um if you don't recognize what God has done for you, what He's given you, and what you have in you, you can very easily start living like you're trapped again.
- 6:32SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 6:32SPEAKER_05: And it's false.
- 6:33SPEAKER_05: It's like you're sitting in a cell and the key is right there.
- 6:35SPEAKER_05: You have it in your hand, but you just don't see it.
- 6:38SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 6:38SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 6:39SPEAKER_06: And you can also think like you can go to the altar one day looking for deliverance from that thing, and you feel like and you and you know in your heart, oh, this is it, this is changed, you know, this is my life is better.
- 6:50SPEAKER_06: I it's not a part of my life anymore.
- 6:51SPEAKER_06: And you can walk away and not change that habit just like his story with uh his Uncle Brian.
- 6:56SPEAKER_06: You know, that was just a habit.
- 6:57SPEAKER_06: It's not like it was something he knew he was that he knew he was wrong and he just kept doing it.
- 7:02SPEAKER_06: It was just something that he's always done, so naturally it happened.
- 7:06SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and for the uh for the story that Luke's talking about, um, for those of you who don't go to Point Church, um Pastor Jared has a uncle Brian, and he told this story near the end of the sermon where his uncle Brian wasn't in church and he was staying with him for a couple weeks in the summer, and they went to a revival that was going on at a uh church in town, and his uncle Brian was a uh a big smoker, he smoked all the time, and that night just Brian decided to go up there and he got saved, he got filled with the Holy Ghost, and that next morning he had a habit of smoking every morning, as smokers do, no spoilers there.
- 7:44SPEAKER_05: Um But he said that when he tried to smoke that cigarette that morning, he said it was the worst thing he's ever tasted in his life, and he realized that he was just doing that out of habit.
- 7:57SPEAKER_05: He wasn't doing it because he needed to anymore, he wasn't doing it because he had to, he was just doing it because that's just what his body did.
- 8:05SPEAKER_05: He did that every day for years.
- 8:07SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 8:07SPEAKER_05: So it's a perfect example of how we can do that in so many areas of our lives.
- 8:13SPEAKER_05: Yeah, we can just build up these habits that aren't good for us.
- 8:15SPEAKER_05: It doesn't have to be smoking.
- 8:17SPEAKER_05: That's just a right on the nose example, but it can happen just with anything.
- 8:21SPEAKER_05: God can set us free, God can take us somewhere else.
- 8:24SPEAKER_02: And he can create new patterns, like he can bring us to new seasons, but also it's important that we remember that just because he could take us to the new season doesn't mean it stops there.
- 8:34SPEAKER_02: He can take us to a new place, he could take us out of our Egypt, yeah, and he can also change our heart, he can fix our heart posture to be different than it used to be and to not want the same things we used to want.
- 8:45SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah, and so you have to recognize that and accept it and move on.
- 8:49SPEAKER_05: You kind of have to realize what God's done for you and be like, wait, I don't have to do this anymore.
- 8:54SPEAKER_05: God set me free.
- 8:55SPEAKER_05: That's right, it has no power over me.
- 8:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 8:59SPEAKER_05: That was real smooth.
- 9:00SPEAKER_02: Sorry for the um the banging.
- 9:02SPEAKER_02: My water bottle hit the um mic.
- 9:04SPEAKER_02: But anyway, keep going.
- 9:06SPEAKER_05: I really like the um the example of the fine dining experience that he brought up.
- 9:12SPEAKER_05: Um because personally, I don't get fine dining at all.
- 9:17SPEAKER_05: I think it's kind of stupid.
- 9:19SPEAKER_05: But but I understand the point.
- 9:21SPEAKER_05: Um, and the example he used, him and his wife Jen, they went to a fine dining restaurant and they did their research, they knew what they were getting into.
- 9:30SPEAKER_05: This place, um, basically you sit down and it's an experience.
- 9:35SPEAKER_05: It's more it's about the experience and the food in equal parts.
- 9:38SPEAKER_05: Normally you go to a restaurant and you're going to eat.
- 9:41SPEAKER_05: Here, you sit down for three hours and you get fed in courses.
- 9:44SPEAKER_05: Um they like that.
- 9:46SPEAKER_05: I don't understand it, but they like that.
- 9:48SPEAKER_05: Um, so they were there and they were enjoying their time, and there was another couple in the room um that did not know that that's what they were getting into.
- 9:57SPEAKER_05: They thought they were gonna be sitting down in a normal restaurant, and so the other couple basically complains the whole time because they're expecting to go in a normal restaurant and eat, and they've sat for like 45 minutes and have only had like their appetizers.
- 10:12SPEAKER_05: So it basically shows us that you have to model your expectations.
- 10:19SPEAKER_05: Yeah, you can't have these old expectations and go into a new place.
- 10:22SPEAKER_05: I'm sure the food at the fine dining place was better.
- 10:25SPEAKER_05: Yeah, probably.
- 10:26SPEAKER_05: I really hope so if it's a fine dining place.
- 10:28SPEAKER_05: The food there was better, but they were so let down by their old experiences and their expectations set by previous restaurants that they went to this place with better food and they hated it.
- 10:39SPEAKER_05: They were wondering why it wasn't like all these other restaurants they've been to.
- 10:43SPEAKER_06: They also didn't even make make room for it.
- 10:46SPEAKER_06: They they already made plans ahead, so they had it in their schedule in their mind how it was gonna work out.
- 10:51SPEAKER_06: They didn't leave room for a new season or for a new thing, they just kind of wanted thing it to fit in their old ways in the way that they've always done it.
- 10:59SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 11:01SPEAKER_05: So, yeah, very um very important story on setting expectations.
- 11:06SPEAKER_05: And this isn't the first time that Pastor Jared's hit on this in this God cancer is that your expectation matters.
- 11:10SPEAKER_05: You can't move into a new place God's trying to take you if in your mind you're already thinking about what exactly it's gonna be.
- 11:18SPEAKER_05: God can't really work with that if you already have it figured out in quotation marks in your mind.
- 11:22SPEAKER_05: It's not gonna work.
- 11:23SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 11:24SPEAKER_05: But yeah, when he was uh when he was telling that story, all I can think about was that I relate a lot more with the people complaining.
- 11:31SPEAKER_05: Dude, I've always thought that fine dining was like too long.
- 11:35SPEAKER_02: I'm with them on this.
- 11:36SPEAKER_02: I think it's so like like I think I wouldn't want to do it every night, but I think on occasion, like just if you go with somebody you love and you like talking to, it's fun.
- 11:44SPEAKER_02: You just get to have a good experience.
- 11:49SPEAKER_05: Duh.
- 11:50SPEAKER_05: I'm talking about fine dining as a whole.
- 11:52SPEAKER_02: No, but I get it.
- 11:53SPEAKER_02: I think it's so fun.
- 11:54SPEAKER_02: I think like the point is to do it like maybe once a year, like not all the time.
- 11:58SPEAKER_05: Dude, all I know is like I get a clip on Instagram of people at fine dining, and I see like a 1.5 ounce steak on their plate, and it just makes me angry.
- 12:07SPEAKER_05: Not even one ounce, bro.
- 12:09SPEAKER_05: And like a leaf on the side.
- 12:11SPEAKER_05: Dude, that infuriates me.
- 12:12SPEAKER_01: But that's just dumb fine dining.
- 12:13SPEAKER_05: Real fine dining is like, dude, if you go to any like good fine dining place, it's gonna be like small portions.
- 12:20SPEAKER_05: Small portions, the food just looks unnecessarily pretty.
- 12:22SPEAKER_05: Like, bro, that is going in my mouth.
- 12:24SPEAKER_05: I don't care if it looks like insanely presentable.
- 12:28SPEAKER_05: I'm eating it.
- 12:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but that's why it's like a certain what's it called?
- 12:31SPEAKER_05: Like sauces almost painted on the plate.
- 12:34SPEAKER_05: Like, bro, just give me the lip offs.
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: But you're also like this random, like not random guy.
- 12:38SPEAKER_01: You're just this guy that like would be just as satisfied with canes every night.
- 12:42SPEAKER_05: I enjoy okay.
- 12:43SPEAKER_05: We are going way too far into this.
- 12:45SPEAKER_05: We need to move on.
- 12:46SPEAKER_05: I'm not about we're not about to debate fine dining for like 10 minutes.
- 12:49SPEAKER_05: We can move on.
- 13:05SPEAKER_02: Um another thing that um I really liked that he said was how this world is constantly trying to teach us what quote unquote normal looks like.
- 13:15SPEAKER_02: And you know, we hear a lot about social media or this generation today, or like what we're supposed to think.
- 13:19SPEAKER_02: But he's really right in the sense that like we're told so much in these days, like what we should think, what we should expect, what we should believe, what we should value in a person or in a relationship, or like what we should expect from a situation.
- 13:30SPEAKER_02: And it's like the world can make us like create patterns for ourselves that God never wanted us to have.
- 13:36SPEAKER_02: And if we're listening to the noise that the world is making, then we're gonna begin to have a new idea of you know who we are, what we believe, like what's right.
- 13:44SPEAKER_02: And in order to prevent this, he was explaining how you have to change from the inside.
- 13:49SPEAKER_02: And that's where the whole transformed part of the message comes in.
- 13:52SPEAKER_02: Do you want to add to that?
- 13:54SPEAKER_05: And the whole um, like what you were just saying, where it's Paul that says in Romans, do not conform to this world.
- 13:59SPEAKER_05: Um, yeah, that's I'd argue even more true now than it has ever been in the past with social media and all this media that if we're not careful, can we just consume it?
- 14:11SPEAKER_05: That's all we can do, and that will change our expectations.
- 14:13SPEAKER_05: If you don't put a barrier up and you just consume it, whether you know it's happening or not, it's gonna it's gonna mold your expectations.
- 14:21SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and that's exactly what Paul is hitting at that um he says this in the message that you have to take every thought captive.
- 14:28SPEAKER_05: You can't just let these things float around in your head because it's just the way we're wired.
- 14:32SPEAKER_05: It's you're gonna start being conformed to it if you don't make a stand against it, if you don't take your thoughts captive, pray about it daily.
- 14:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, that's why like that like showed me that it's important to challenge our like daily habits almost.
- 14:47SPEAKER_01: Like, yeah, are these habits helping me build like one a life with Jesus and two a life just that is benefiting like me and growing and not holding me back?
- 14:58SPEAKER_01: Or these habits that are just hurting me, like smoking for Uncle Brian, that's a habit that's just literally hurting him in the long run for his future life.
- 15:06SPEAKER_01: He's gonna have lung problems, I'm sure, because smoking's not good for your lungs.
- 15:10SPEAKER_01: But if your habit is reading your Bible daily or having a a prayer walk or something, or just praying or going to church, those are the habits that are building your faith.
- 15:20SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and it and it doesn't always have to be something as like as obviously bad for you as smoking.
- 15:29SPEAKER_05: Um, maybe it could be that you're at a level now where you pray for five, ten minutes at the start and end of your day, but yeah, most of your day is filled with distraction.
- 15:39SPEAKER_05: And God wants to take you to a whole nother level.
- 15:43SPEAKER_05: But if he opened that door and you went there, but you still kept filling all your spare time with distraction, there'd be no real point for God to do that.
- 15:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:51SPEAKER_01: It's like the distraction could be something as simple or as small as like you scroll for way too long in the day, and then like the good habit could be something as simple as just like maybe start eating better for yourself for your so you're taking care of like your temple, you know, like your body.
- 16:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 16:07SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I think the um the key point is that God can take you out of the out of the old place to a new place, but it's up to you to stop living the old way.
- 16:19SPEAKER_05: God's trying to transform you completely from the inside.
- 16:22SPEAKER_05: He can take you there.
- 16:24SPEAKER_05: You have to accept it and accept the change.
- 16:27SPEAKER_05: You can't you can't hold on to those old patterns.
- 16:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 16:31SPEAKER_02: Oh, you can go.
- 16:32SPEAKER_02: Oh, I liked how he had said like sometimes he not always, but sometimes he will want to renew our mind, work on the inside before he changes the outside.
- 16:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 16:41SPEAKER_02: Because there are times and he'll take you out of a situation.
- 16:44SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 16:44SPEAKER_02: But like before you have necessarily proven that you've changed on the inside.
- 16:49SPEAKER_02: But sometimes he knows, God knows that he has to first of first of all work on the inside of us because he knows that if he doesn't, if he just changes our surroundings or the outward view of the problem, then we're gonna do what we did the last time or we're gonna go right back to the problem and we're gonna we're gonna create the problem, honestly, because it's usually it's an internal thing that you keep running back to or an internal problem that you can't get away from.
- 17:12SPEAKER_02: So he knows that unless he changes the inside, the outside is not gonna matter because we're gonna go right back to the old way, the old situation.
- 17:20SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 17:21SPEAKER_06: What you do you want to go ahead?
- 17:23SPEAKER_06: No, you're good.
- 17:23SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 17:24SPEAKER_06: I was gonna go back to Romans 12, 2, where it talks about being conformed, yeah, not conformed, but transformed.
- 17:30SPEAKER_06: The definitions of those two are really that they tie in really well with what you were talking about.
- 17:35SPEAKER_06: Conformed is to be shaped by outside pressure, whereas transformed is to be changed from the inside out.
- 17:41SPEAKER_06: So that kind of you know compares exactly how God's way is completely different than the world's way of changing us and also more effective the right way.
- 17:50SPEAKER_06: Because it's it's it's actually becomes permanent, it becomes a part of your life instead of simply something that you do and as a habit.
- 17:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:58SPEAKER_02: And he had used the I mean the Israelites too.
- 18:01SPEAKER_02: He was explaining how you know they escaped Egypt after all this time, after all this trying, but then after times got tough and they were a little hungry, they were like questioning like, should we go back?
- 18:10SPEAKER_02: Like, we we need to go back.
- 18:11SPEAKER_02: Like, man, they had food for us there, at least we had shelter.
- 18:14SPEAKER_02: And like it is a perfect example of what we do.
- 18:17SPEAKER_02: Like, times like we can be doing so good for so long, but then times get tough and we're like immediately going back to that old bad habit.
- 18:24SPEAKER_02: But what would have happened if they would have ran back?
- 18:27SPEAKER_02: Like they would have kept going in a circle.
- 18:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the cycle that never ends.
- 18:31SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that really is a a perfect demonstration of what we can do.
- 18:36SPEAKER_05: Um if we're not careful.
- 18:39SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it's probably happened to every one of us.
- 18:40SPEAKER_05: I'd say at least once, if I'm being humble, where God sets us free from something, and we're just like the Israelites.
- 18:46SPEAKER_05: We're like, but I enjoyed it back there.
- 18:48SPEAKER_05: I was comfortable back there.
- 18:50SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 18:50SPEAKER_05: Even though it was something we ourselves were asking to be set free from.
- 18:54SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 18:55SPEAKER_05: It was a level that we wanted to get to, and then we get there and we're like, well, it was actually I'm more comfortable back there.
- 19:02SPEAKER_05: I feel safer back there.
- 19:04SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 19:04SPEAKER_05: I'm a lot more used to it.
- 19:06SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it can it can happen to all of us.
- 19:09SPEAKER_02: It's like you said, God's trying to bring peace, but the chaos is familiar to us.
- 19:13SPEAKER_02: And so we want to run back to it.
- 19:15SPEAKER_02: But then once we get in the chaos again, we're gonna be like, God, we need peace.
- 19:18SPEAKER_06: That's too much.
- 19:19SPEAKER_06: That's too much.
- 19:20SPEAKER_01: Bring me peace.
- 19:21SPEAKER_01: And it's so funny because it could either be a habit that we don't recognize, or it could be that we're recognizing these habits and we realize that we need to change.
- 19:29SPEAKER_01: And so, like, we try to almost do it on our own.
- 19:31SPEAKER_01: We're like, okay, I need to change.
- 19:33SPEAKER_01: So let me like create a checklist, let me do it, and like you're doing it for a week or maybe even a month, you're doing it.
- 19:38SPEAKER_01: You're lit, you're checking these things off like every day, and you're doing it on your own.
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: But slowly you'll start getting worn out and you'll start getting tired because you can't change your whole entire being by yourself.
- 19:50SPEAKER_01: Like you need to, that's when you need to start praying and leaning on God.
- 19:54SPEAKER_01: Like, you can't do a fast for 40 days like everyone, like the people in the Bible did without God being there to give you your strength.
- 20:00SPEAKER_01: Like you can't change who you are truly without God and like leaning on Him.
- 20:04SPEAKER_01: You can't do it on your own.
- 20:06SPEAKER_01: It's you're gonna get worn out, you're gonna get burnt out, and it won't work.
- 20:09SPEAKER_01: You won't, you'll just fall back to those old habits again because that's what's easy, that's what's comfortable to you, like you were just saying.
- 20:16SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that's a uh that's a really good point.
- 20:18SPEAKER_05: I think that's important that um that if you're gonna be changing, it it has to be from the inside with God.
- 20:25SPEAKER_05: It can't be um if you're trying to become a more Christ-like person, you can't focus on the external parts of that.
- 20:34SPEAKER_05: Like if you want to be a kinder person and not get as angry, you shouldn't be focusing specifically on how you handle your anger towards people.
- 20:43SPEAKER_05: You first should be focusing within and praying about it, thinking about it, making sure you're in a good space, um, getting counsel first, changing from the inside, letting God dwell in you and work that out instead of focusing only on your outburst.
- 20:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you have to like pray on him for the strength and like pray to him for like the endurance to get through that.
- 21:02SPEAKER_01: What would be the hard times like the Israelites were going through to get through that and not crave to go back and end up falling back, anyways.
- 21:09SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 21:10SPEAKER_05: Um, something interesting that I didn't hear from this message, but it uh it went along with it perfectly.
- 21:16SPEAKER_05: I went to a prayer group um here recently, since we started our group session, and the guy teaching the group, he said something that was really interesting to me at first, and it kind of caused us all to take a step back.
- 21:30SPEAKER_05: It was on prayer, and he was saying a big misconception that a lot of Christians have is to constantly be seeking God's presence.
- 21:40SPEAKER_05: And at first, obviously, I'm like, Dog, what are you saying right now?
- 21:45SPEAKER_05: How about a call the pastor?
- 21:47SPEAKER_05: Like, but he explained, um, obviously, don't stop seeking God.
- 21:52SPEAKER_05: That's not what he's saying.
- 21:53SPEAKER_05: What he was saying is if you have the Holy Ghost and you're saved, yeah, God has put his spirit in you.
- 22:00SPEAKER_05: So you are a hundred percent at a new level in a new place than you were before you were saved.
- 22:06SPEAKER_05: So if you're saved and God has a spirit in you, you don't have to wake up every morning and pray like God's left you.
- 22:13SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 22:14SPEAKER_05: You don't have to be like, God, please come and give me your spirit again.
- 22:17SPEAKER_05: Like, no, that spirit's in you.
- 22:20SPEAKER_05: You pray not to seek him out again because he left you.
- 22:22SPEAKER_05: You pray because to advance your already existing relationship.
- 22:27SPEAKER_05: Once a spirit's in you, you have that.
- 22:29SPEAKER_05: And so it kind of shows that what if I'm saved and I have the Holy Ghost, but I'm stunting myself in my growth.
- 22:35SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 22:35SPEAKER_05: Because every time I pray, I'm acting like my progress is back at zero.
- 22:38SPEAKER_05: That I have to find God again and find his spirit again when I have it and I should be praying.
- 22:44SPEAKER_05: Like, God, I want to go closer to you.
- 22:45SPEAKER_05: God, I want to experience more of you and less of me.
- 22:48SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 22:48SPEAKER_05: So it's just another uh example that we can be saved and we can be in a good area, but our old habits, the old way we prayed, are just maybe that's how we've always prayed.
- 22:59SPEAKER_05: We can't let go of that pattern.
- 23:01SPEAKER_06: Yeah, you can't use your flesh to save the spirit.
- 23:04SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 23:04SPEAKER_06: Spirit has to rule and reign.
- 23:24SPEAKER_02: Something I really loved that he said, this was like my favorite part of the message, was just because something is familiar doesn't mean it's healthy.
- 23:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 23:31SPEAKER_02: He was explaining how just because you've always thought or done something one way doesn't mean that that is the way that it has to be and that it will be forever.
- 23:38SPEAKER_02: And the Bible tells us throw off your old sinful nature and let the Lord renew your mind, which is pretty much what we've been talking about this whole time.
- 23:45SPEAKER_02: Like we need to disconnect ourselves to what from what we once knew, if it's bad, obviously.
- 23:51SPEAKER_02: But like we can't stay clinging to that old thing because we have to walk forward into the new season that God is trying to transition us into.
- 23:59SPEAKER_02: But to do that, we have to have a new mind.
- 24:01SPEAKER_02: And it's not going to be comfortable and it's not going to be easy, but it's going to be better for you.
- 24:05SPEAKER_02: And that's important that you know.
- 24:06SPEAKER_02: And it's important to remember that we have the power and the authority to take captive every thought.
- 24:12SPEAKER_02: That's one thing he said.
- 24:12SPEAKER_02: And I love how he said that some of our thoughts need to be challenged.
- 24:16SPEAKER_02: This is the part that like really applied to me the most because I've always kind of just been like, I mean, you guys all know me.
- 24:23SPEAKER_02: You've known me my whole life.
- 24:24SPEAKER_02: Like, you know, I'm emotional.
- 24:25SPEAKER_02: Like I'm a more emotional person.
- 24:26SPEAKER_02: Like I cry easy, I get mad quick, like just like things like that.
- 24:30SPEAKER_02: And I always kind of like just accepted that I'm just an emotional person.
- 24:33SPEAKER_02: Like I just have big emotions and I get emotional easily.
- 24:36SPEAKER_02: And that's just been a thing that I've always accepted, kind of.
- 24:39SPEAKER_02: But it wasn't a I didn't think it was a bad thing until kind of recently.
- 24:42SPEAKER_02: I'm just like my mood switches so fast.
- 24:45SPEAKER_02: And like, I don't, I do make a lot of decisions with my emotions.
- 24:49SPEAKER_02: And like I've recognized recently that like I'll make big decisions with my emotions that I'm feeling at the time.
- 24:55SPEAKER_02: And obviously, that's not what you're supposed to do.
- 24:57SPEAKER_02: The Bible literally warned us about, you know, making decisions with your heart and how your heart is where it's like deceitful.
- 25:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 25:04SPEAKER_02: And so this kind of this part of the message was just kind of an eye-opener for me that just because I've always, you know, accepted, quote unquote accepted, that I'm an emotional person and this is how it's gonna be.
- 25:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 25:14SPEAKER_02: Just because I said that doesn't mean it has to be.
- 25:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 25:16SPEAKER_02: I can take captive my emotions and my thoughts, and I could toward turn them towards God and ask God, regulate my emotions, make me more constant.
- 25:24SPEAKER_02: Like don't let me feel so unwhat's the word, unstable, I guess, all the time.
- 25:28SPEAKER_02: Like just not steady.
- 25:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 25:30SPEAKER_02: So yeah.
- 25:31SPEAKER_05: But yeah, that's a really good um principle, I feel.
- 25:33SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 25:34SPEAKER_05: Um that sometimes if we don't take our thoughts captive, like it says, and we just kind of accept what we've always thought, yeah, we can all find ourselves in your shoes.
- 25:44SPEAKER_05: Um mine can be that I think that I have to have some title before I can start pouring into people's lives and praying for people.
- 25:53SPEAKER_05: That can just that can just be a way I think.
- 25:55SPEAKER_05: I think I have to be something more, have to be have to have some uh prestige.
- 25:59SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah, recognition.
- 26:01SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
- 26:01SPEAKER_05: I have to be like a pastor or a have to be a scholar with a degree or something.
- 26:06SPEAKER_05: Yeah, before I go and you know, help people or pray into their lives or guide them.
- 26:11SPEAKER_05: And if that's just the way I always thought and I accept it, then I'm just gonna be holding myself back from helping people.
- 26:17SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 26:18SPEAKER_06: Never allow God to really use you, especially if that's his his will and his way, he wants to use you.
- 26:22SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and so that can go for anything.
- 26:24SPEAKER_05: You really have to take all of your thoughts captive.
- 26:26SPEAKER_05: And I mean, if you really have to, which we all really have to sometimes, put it up against the word of God.
- 26:34SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 26:34SPEAKER_05: If what you're thinking doesn't align with something in the Bible, then you're wrong and you need to trust the Bible and trust God.
- 26:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 26:41SPEAKER_02: Okay, so we'll go ahead and get into James for the day.
- 26:45SPEAKER_02: Um, so last week you guys covered James 1, 19 through 27, correct?
- 26:49SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 26:49SPEAKER_00: That is what we did.
- 26:50SPEAKER_02: So um this week we'll do James 2, 1 through 13, so somebody can start us off.
- 26:56SPEAKER_05: And I just want to get right into the first verse because he doesn't pull any punches, just James 2, verse 1.
- 27:02SPEAKER_05: My dear brothers and sisters, how can you claim to have faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ if you favor some people over others?
- 27:09SPEAKER_02: Boom.
- 27:09SPEAKER_02: Poo yay!
- 27:10SPEAKER_05: Literally, boom.
- 27:11SPEAKER_05: Like you read that and you're kind of just like, wow.
- 27:14SPEAKER_01: Convicted.
- 27:15SPEAKER_05: Wow, that feels targeted.
- 27:17SPEAKER_05: That was definitely targeted to someone back then.
- 27:19SPEAKER_01: Not like definitely not.
- 27:22SPEAKER_05: I mean, like, it's obviously targeted to all of us, but I feel like he was like imagining someone specific at the time.
- 27:28SPEAKER_01: He's like, Man, that person really needs to eat this.
- 27:30SPEAKER_05: But I mean, wow, just what a way to start that.
- 27:34SPEAKER_05: He's like, What's even the point in you claiming that you believe in God if you show favoritism?
- 27:38SPEAKER_05: If you don't treat and love everyone equally, what's the point of even being a Christian?
- 27:42SPEAKER_05: It's kind of just like wow, crazy.
- 27:44SPEAKER_05: That shows how serious this stuff really is.
- 27:47SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it sounded like a crazy statement at first, but as you go through the chapter, you're like, Well, it's actually really reasonable to think that way or to state that, which is crazy to say.
- 27:56SPEAKER_05: Yeah, because it's not like a if you think this way, you need to pray about it and repent.
- 28:00SPEAKER_05: He's just like, what is the point in you believing in God if you don't love people and treat everyone equally?
- 28:06SPEAKER_05: It's like oddly reasonable, yeah.
- 28:08SPEAKER_02: And it's not only because um it's the Christ like thing to do, which it is, but it's also because you never know who needs it.
- 28:14SPEAKER_02: You never know who needed kindness, who needed forgiveness that day.
- 28:17SPEAKER_02: Like, even your worst enemy has their days when like a lot of times you always hear like, you know, people who bully or people who do bad things, usually they do it because of like their own self-image or hurt or they've been like, you know, and like now I'm not giving them an excuse.
- 28:32SPEAKER_02: It doesn't make it okay for them to treat you that way, but you don't have to stoop to their level, you know what's right, and you can treat them the way that you wish they would treat you.
- 28:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and it it's so random.
- 28:42SPEAKER_01: Like I've like genuinely, like two days ago, I was this random thought just popped into my head, and it corresponded with this verse very well.
- 28:50SPEAKER_01: I was just I was just sitting there and I was just like, bro, we're Christians.
- 28:56SPEAKER_03: Amen.
- 28:57SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 28:57SPEAKER_03: Wow, okay.
- 28:58SPEAKER_01: No, wait.
- 28:59SPEAKER_01: We're sitting, and I was like, How could we call ourselves Christians when being a Christian means to follow Christ?
- 29:03SPEAKER_01: And the verse points out how we can claim to follow Christ, but we choose to favor others.
- 29:08SPEAKER_01: How can we claim to follow Christ when we choose to favor his people, some of his people over his other people?
- 29:14SPEAKER_01: Like, does that like it was just like I'm like, how can we claim to Christmas?
- 29:17SPEAKER_05: But you might be James.
- 29:19SPEAKER_05: That might be what he wrote.
- 29:21SPEAKER_05: You might be James.
- 29:22SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 29:22SPEAKER_01: But I'm like, we literally claim to follow Christ, so that means we need to represent Christ.
- 29:26SPEAKER_01: And if we're not representing Christ, then what's the point?
- 29:29SPEAKER_01: And it corresponded just with this verse.
- 29:30SPEAKER_05: I was like, well, Christ indeed says to love everyone.
- 29:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because I mean, most of the time it's the believers aren't the ones who need Christ, it's the unbelievers, it's the ones who do struggle, it's the ones who are treating people wrongly because they don't know the truth, they don't know what's right.
- 29:43SPEAKER_02: And if you know what's right, then it is your job, your obligation to treat them with kindness and respect so that they see something different in you and they ask you, hey, why are you so different?
- 29:52SPEAKER_02: Or like, what's different about you?
- 29:54SPEAKER_02: Then that's a another soul that you can help to save, right?
- 29:57SPEAKER_02: You know?
- 29:58SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and then I just I really like how he didn't treat it like some minor issue, like not just some not just like some high school drama like click issue, not just some um like don't be mean to that guy.
- 30:14SPEAKER_05: You have people you slightly prefer, but it's alright, you'll pray it out.
- 30:17SPEAKER_05: He didn't just make it a a tiny issue, he straight up said that the way you treat people is directly tied to your faith and your belief, and your eternity, like he brought it down to yeah.
- 30:28SPEAKER_05: Like if you don't treat everyone the same, you don't follow Christ, and that's basically what he's saying.
- 30:33SPEAKER_01: Because like, would God ever favor one of his people over another?
- 30:37SPEAKER_06: Like, no, we're all called, we're all chosen.
- 30:40SPEAKER_01: We're all his children.
- 30:42SPEAKER_01: Why like, and if our goal is to be like Christ, then why would we ever do that either?
- 30:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:46SPEAKER_05: Yeah, because we're all put on the same ground, no matter if you're rich or you're poor or whatever, no matter who you are, we're all the same.
- 30:56SPEAKER_05: Do just the Bible, bro.
- 30:58SPEAKER_01: Dude, all the proverbs and the rich and the poor.
- 31:01SPEAKER_02: Oh, well, that that I guess brings us to verse two and three, which is oh wait, actually, does anybody have it?
- 31:07SPEAKER_02: I didn't write it down.
- 31:08SPEAKER_01: I just have it.
- 31:09SPEAKER_01: Um, for example, suppose someone comes into your meeting dressed in a fancy in fancy clothes and expensive jewelry, and another comes in who is poor and dressed in dirty clothes.
- 31:17SPEAKER_01: If you give special attention and good seat to the rich person, but you say to the poor one, you can stand over there or sit on the floor.
- 31:24SPEAKER_01: Well, does that wait?
- 31:26SPEAKER_01: Well, doesn't this discrimination well doesn't this discrimination show that your judgments are guided by evil motives?
- 31:32SPEAKER_03: Hmm.
- 31:35SPEAKER_01: Like, hello, I like hi.
- 31:39SPEAKER_05: I was waiting for you to get to your point.
- 31:42SPEAKER_01: Oh, I was reading it for Audrey, but I like how this points out that the flesh leans towards a certain look.
- 31:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:47SPEAKER_01: Like, yes, out of the group of two people who look one looks nicely dressed and one's more confident, and the majority will lean towards that person just because of they look more trusting in general.
- 31:56SPEAKER_01: Like it's kind of like an instinct, but in all reality, you don't know like that person could probably be in debt trying to look that way and live that lifestyle to impress all these people.
- 32:06SPEAKER_01: While the person who's poor is just humble, quote unquote poor is just the person who he probably works hard and you never know like what like how much wisdom he may have.
- 32:15SPEAKER_01: He just doesn't put on that outward look.
- 32:17SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
- 32:18SPEAKER_05: I really um I really like how the way he kind of writes this, these verses, he doesn't write it in a way that it seems malicious.
- 32:28SPEAKER_05: Like the person saying the poor person shouldn't sit there isn't looking with contempt like oh, this is a dirty homeless person, and this person needs to sit over there because he's trash.
- 32:40SPEAKER_05: It's just it almost seems normalized.
- 32:42SPEAKER_05: Like if you think about it by a worldly standard, logically, it makes sense.
- 32:47SPEAKER_05: You're at a a party, rich people sit in the good places, so he's not being like this person sucks, sit over there.
- 32:53SPEAKER_05: He's just like that's just the way things are.
- 32:55SPEAKER_05: Like you could just stand there.
- 32:56SPEAKER_05: James is calling this out that it may be so like ingrained in you from society that you may not even see this discrimination as anything wrong.
- 33:05SPEAKER_05: Yeah, but you have to see that subconsciously you can, you very much can.
- 33:10SPEAKER_05: We've all done it at some part in our lives.
- 33:12SPEAKER_05: We're just human.
- 33:12SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
- 33:13SPEAKER_05: We have all subconsciously preferred one person or one group of people over another, and that's what James has calling us out.
- 33:20SPEAKER_05: If you're a Christian, everyone's on the same to you, yeah.
- 33:24SPEAKER_01: And what's crazy is that Jesus was that poor person, you know, like Jesus was the one that got judged and tossed to the side.
- 33:31SPEAKER_01: They were like, uh, you're just this, what was uh a carpenter's son.
- 33:34SPEAKER_01: Like, yeah, it doesn't like you're like you're not Jesus, you're not our Lord and Savior.
- 33:38SPEAKER_01: You're you look dirty.
- 33:39SPEAKER_01: Like he was that poor person, and they treated him like that, and they did not know who that was per like who that could have been.
- 33:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's a good thing.
- 33:47SPEAKER_01: Not saying that these all these poor people are Jesus, but yeah, but yeah, I know what you're saying.
- 33:50SPEAKER_05: He's kind of like calling you out to like analyze, like who do you choose to talk to?
- 33:55SPEAKER_05: Um, who do you make time for?
- 33:57SPEAKER_05: Who do you want to be around all the time?
- 33:59SPEAKER_05: Like analyze.
- 34:00SPEAKER_05: Is there anyone that you choose to ignore?
- 34:02SPEAKER_05: It doesn't even have to be a group of people, but have you analyze yourself and find that you're like avoiding some people or spending more time with some people as opposed to others, then subconsciously you could be uh setting preferences.
- 34:18SPEAKER_05: And obviously, like you have family, you're gonna want to spend time with your family more than a random dude.
- 34:23SPEAKER_05: Like that's not what that's saying.
- 34:24SPEAKER_05: Right, yeah.
- 34:25SPEAKER_05: But he's calling you to uh make sure like it can happen.
- 34:29SPEAKER_05: You can form preferences for people, put them on a higher scale of worth, yeah, and it doesn't have to be malicious.
- 34:35SPEAKER_05: You can do it just because you're human.
- 34:37SPEAKER_06: Exactly.
- 34:37SPEAKER_06: I mean, our impression of people or a person can affect how we're feeling to talk to them or to to share something with them, like the truth, you know.
- 34:45SPEAKER_06: And it many times it could be easier to share the truth with some more than others.
- 34:50SPEAKER_06: You know, we can kind of exclude people in our mind, like, oh, you know, we kind of make the stereotype like, oh, you know, they probably wouldn't recede this well.
- 34:58SPEAKER_06: And we just don't even give them a chance.
- 34:59SPEAKER_06: And it's like it's not fair to them.
- 35:01SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it's like a like an example would be is you can say as a Christian that everyone matters equally to you.
- 35:08SPEAKER_05: But you know, when someone in the church, someone you know comes to you with a problem, you respond to them, you open your arms to them, you you help them.
- 35:16SPEAKER_05: But when someone outside the church, maybe someone in your neighborhood, maybe someone you just don't know as well, they come to you needing help.
- 35:22SPEAKER_05: You may just brush them off.
- 35:24SPEAKER_05: Treat it differently, you may just kind of set it to the side and be like, don't worry, it'll get better.
- 35:29SPEAKER_05: Believe me, I'll be praying for you.
- 35:31SPEAKER_05: But you don't actually try to help that person.
- 35:32SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and it subconsciously, you can have just decided their issues don't matter as much.
- 35:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's like like the the premature judgment that Luke Luka kind of just explaining, doesn't it says in the verse, doesn't this discrimination show that your judgments are guided by evil motives?
- 35:50SPEAKER_01: Like almost a selfish motive in the sense of like you don't the way the world is structured, like you almost just don't want to go to that poor person.
- 36:00SPEAKER_01: You you would rather go to the rich person, or like in the sense of what the scripture context is.
- 36:05SPEAKER_01: Like it's easier to go up, like Luke was saying, to someone it's a lot harder to go up to someone who you already made this preconceived idea that won't understand what you're trying to say.
- 36:15SPEAKER_01: And you almost make it just because of the way they look, instead of going to actually just save the souls like we're called to.
- 36:22SPEAKER_06: Yeah, like oh, they won't receive it, you know.
- 36:24SPEAKER_06: We kind of just put that label on them, or does that look like somebody I could share it with?
- 36:29SPEAKER_06: Just share it to all, you know?
- 36:30SPEAKER_05: Oh, it's 100%, and that type of thing, it happens, it happens a lot.
- 36:35SPEAKER_05: Like if you want a real like another real world example of that, um someone doesn't dress the same exact way as you in church, and they may not have your level of standards, and so you just automatically they're just lower to you.
- 36:51SPEAKER_05: Their problems, they don't really matter, they don't believe the same way you do, they aren't as close to God as you.
- 36:55SPEAKER_05: You may never say that you may say that you love everyone the same and treat everyone the same, but someone has different standards than you, or or they're not at the same level.
- 37:05SPEAKER_05: Yeah, someone just got in the church and they're not dressing like you at all.
- 37:10SPEAKER_05: And you subconsciously just decide that you're at a higher level, you matter more.
- 37:15SPEAKER_01: That is yeah, a really good like you can almost get that like higher than thou mindset of like, mm-hmm.
- 37:21SPEAKER_01: And it's like we're not on the same level, I can't.
- 37:24SPEAKER_05: Like, you know, then you may never like think that out loud.
- 37:27SPEAKER_05: You may never look at this person and be like, this person doesn't deserve to go to heaven.
- 37:32SPEAKER_05: This person's garbage.
- 37:33SPEAKER_05: You're never gonna you may never think that, but subconsciously you're already ranking.
- 37:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and you're and you just don't lean towards that person.
- 37:39SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and that's what that's what James is calling out.
- 37:41SPEAKER_05: He's like, it doesn't matter whether you do it intentionally or not, it comes from the same evil motive.
- 37:47SPEAKER_05: We're all the same.
- 37:48SPEAKER_05: And if you think you're not the same, that's an evil motive.
- 37:51SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 37:53SPEAKER_02: That's really good.
- 37:54SPEAKER_05: All right, good podcast, guys.
- 37:56SPEAKER_05: Spent so much on the first verse.
- 37:58SPEAKER_02: Hey, that was the first four.
- 38:00SPEAKER_02: First four.
- 38:00SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah.
- 38:00SPEAKER_02: We locked in truth, and then five through seven are going along with one through four.
- 38:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 38:06SPEAKER_05: But he says, listen to me this time.
- 38:08SPEAKER_05: Yeah, he's like, you were bro, I was already sat down and listening.
- 38:11SPEAKER_05: What are you talking about?
- 38:12SPEAKER_02: If you weren't already screaming at this point, Luke, read it.
- 38:15SPEAKER_02: You just had a good read voice.
- 38:16SPEAKER_06: Listen to me, dear brothers and sisters.
- 38:20SPEAKER_06: Hasn't God chosen the poor in this world to be rich in faith?
- 38:23SPEAKER_06: Aren't they the ones who will inherit the kingdom he promised to those who love him?
- 38:28SPEAKER_06: That was five.
- 38:31SPEAKER_06: Thanks.
- 38:32SPEAKER_01: Continue in verse six.
- 38:33SPEAKER_02: Oh, do you have notes on five?
- 38:35SPEAKER_02: Oh, here you were.
- 38:36SPEAKER_06: I just found uh another scripture that is um Acts 17, 6.
- 38:42SPEAKER_06: Uh let's see.
- 38:44SPEAKER_06: These who have turned the world upside down have come here too.
- 38:48SPEAKER_06: So I have to give it some context.
- 38:50SPEAKER_06: But but many times the world has uh a standard or a way that things should be measured or tiered or you know, ranked like we've been talking about.
- 39:00SPEAKER_06: Well, it it most times God's way of doing it is absolutely opposite, flipped on its head.
- 39:06SPEAKER_06: Yeah, 100%.
- 39:07SPEAKER_06: And just like you know, that can be opposite, we are called to turn the world or as apostles, they were called and said that they turn the world upside down.
- 39:18SPEAKER_06: Who are these people that turn the world upside down?
- 39:20SPEAKER_06: So we are supposed to be different, just like God's wisdom, you know.
- 39:24SPEAKER_06: Yeah, we're supposed to follow that.
- 39:26SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah.
- 39:26SPEAKER_01: It's like most thing the world is doing, God is literally calling us to do the exact opposite opposite.
- 39:31SPEAKER_06: It's it's wrong.
- 39:32SPEAKER_06: We have to flip it on its head.
- 39:34SPEAKER_01: That's a good point.
- 39:35SPEAKER_02: It's kind of crazy, and it's like it's like the world is like designed to make us look and feel crazy.
- 39:41SPEAKER_02: Like, oh my gosh, you're doing the complete opposite of what's normal or what's supposed to happen.
- 39:45SPEAKER_02: But like it's really insane because that's so evil.
- 39:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 39:49SPEAKER_02: Like that just shows you like the world, like not this isn't saying um people.
- 39:55SPEAKER_06: Like people are evil.
- 39:56SPEAKER_06: This is like things of our world, the nature of our world.
- 39:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 40:00SPEAKER_01: And I think adding on to that, that's why it's so important to surround yourself with people of the same Christian faith.
- 40:06SPEAKER_01: Not that you have to like from the verse we just we just learned that you don't exclude the people who are not of faith with you, but surround yourself with people to support you in general.
- 40:16SPEAKER_01: Like if you hang out with mostly, for lack of better words, like worldly friends per se, you will probably start adapting their mindset because the world is so different from what Christians are supposed to look like.
- 40:30SPEAKER_01: And so I think that was just a just to add on a good point to surround yourself to help support you.
- 40:34SPEAKER_05: Yeah, no, that's a good truth, and there is a very big distinction between surrounding yourself with friends of a similar faith and similar heart for God than taking that and saying you don't love worldly people because of that.
- 40:48SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 40:48SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 40:49SPEAKER_05: If that principle were to stand, we would all be sinning because all of us love our family and are gonna care for our family more than someone that isn't our family.
- 40:56SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 40:57SPEAKER_05: So there's a distinction between that.
- 40:59SPEAKER_05: Like you not being friends with every worldly person you meet doesn't mean you don't love them.
- 41:04SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 41:05SPEAKER_05: You just have to not see them as less than you because at the end of the day, you and that person are equal.
- 41:09SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that's how God sees it.
- 41:10SPEAKER_06: You you have to hold your hand out having boundaries, but not judging and not putting them down where they're boundaries doesn't mean you don't love them.
- 41:17SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 41:17SPEAKER_06: It just means that you're protecting yourself.
- 41:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 41:21SPEAKER_02: That's a very um hard topic to discuss without like saying the wrong thing.
- 41:27SPEAKER_05: I mean, like that does need to be talked about at times because I agree.
- 41:30SPEAKER_05: Like we don't hate people from the world, we're not any different on a on a scale.
- 41:37SPEAKER_02: But I'm also not gonna go on like a lunch date with a friend who does witchcraft.
- 41:41SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 41:42SPEAKER_02: Like I'm not gonna go like purposely put myself in situations where um like Jesus is not welcome.
- 41:48SPEAKER_02: And yeah, like I'm gonna do that.
- 41:49SPEAKER_02: I mean, that doesn't mean that I'm not gonna spread the gospel to those people.
- 41:51SPEAKER_02: That means that if they are seeking help or I feel led to, you know, talk to them, reach out to them, then yeah, that's one thing, but like not in a way that's I'm gonna be in your presence, but I'm also not going to tell you the truth.
- 42:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 42:05SPEAKER_01: It's almost like you have yeah, I know what you mean.
- 42:07SPEAKER_02: Like not accept the um I guess the evil in it.
- 42:10SPEAKER_02: Does that make sense?
- 42:12SPEAKER_00: Like kind of like you're not gonna be able to do what you're saying, not let the limited line of life.
- 42:18SPEAKER_01: I would that was a close call.
- 42:21SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 42:21SPEAKER_01: I would almost say it's just like make sure that you are protected and strong in your faith and create boundaries.
- 42:27SPEAKER_01: But my whole point was that if you do feel crazy because the world is so different, is that's why it's important to surround yourself with people with light face so you don't feel crazy and start almost mending what you believe.
- 42:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's literally what we talked about for the message.
- 42:41SPEAKER_02: Um agreed, but the world saying that, like the world trying to make you believe one thing, yeah, yeah.
- 42:46SPEAKER_05: But no, it's that's literally what Luke said that it's having boundaries.
- 42:50SPEAKER_05: So, you know, yeah, set sitting down for lunch with someone that is known to do witchcraft, that's a pretty good boundary, I'd say.
- 42:59SPEAKER_05: I'd say that's that's a good boundary.
- 43:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, okay, we're gonna move on.
- 43:19SPEAKER_02: Um, so did we do verse six yet?
- 43:21SPEAKER_02: No.
- 43:22SPEAKER_02: Okay, we'll do six and seven.
- 43:25SPEAKER_02: But you honor the poor.
- 43:26SPEAKER_02: Isn't it the rich who oppress you and drag you into court?
- 43:30SPEAKER_02: Aren't they the ones?
- 43:31SPEAKER_06: You said you said you honor the poor, but you dishonor.
- 43:33SPEAKER_02: It's but you dishonor the poor.
- 43:35SPEAKER_02: But you're clocker.
- 43:37SPEAKER_02: Okay, so wait, verse five ended with aren't they the ones who will inherit the kingdom he promised to those who love him?
- 43:42SPEAKER_02: Six.
- 43:43SPEAKER_02: But you dishonor the poor.
- 43:44SPEAKER_02: Isn't it the rich who oppress you and drag you into court?
- 43:47SPEAKER_02: Aren't they the ones who slander Jesus Christ, whose noble name you bear?
- 43:51SPEAKER_02: Take it away.
- 43:52SPEAKER_06: That was kind of why that this verse was actually why I brought up that other scripture of turning the world's head.
- 43:59SPEAKER_06: So another.
- 44:00SPEAKER_06: It's kind of random, but you know.
- 44:01SPEAKER_01: No, no, great point.
- 44:03SPEAKER_01: I think that it's so crazy how consistently the Bible is the example for like almost a fool and like the wise person is the rich and poor.
- 44:12SPEAKER_01: It's because it's it's just not in every case, but it's so easy for the rich to grasp onto the worldly things and then start desiring that.
- 44:20SPEAKER_01: And it's easier for the poor to stay humble and grasp onto eternity, like like spiritual things and believe in God.
- 44:29SPEAKER_01: And it's just crazy how it always uses that example the consistently throughout a lot of the things we've read.
- 44:36SPEAKER_02: What you just said applies perfectly to what I just read.
- 44:38SPEAKER_02: I was reading it, I don't know if it was Genesis or or if it was Psalms or something.
- 44:43SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 44:44SPEAKER_02: But I was reading it and it was saying how it is harder for it's harder for a rich man to be saved or something like that than it is for a camel to fit through the eye of a needle.
- 44:54SPEAKER_02: It was something like that.
- 44:54SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 44:55SPEAKER_02: And I was like, that's exactly what you just said.
- 44:56SPEAKER_02: Like it is harder for a a rich person to humble themselves when if you're poor, you should just stay humble and don't even mess around in the realm of you know, worldly, worldly objects or money or things that you know that people get addicted to and that they can't like get away from.
- 45:11SPEAKER_05: I mean, a poor person, they don't have anything going for them in the sense of a worldly matter.
- 45:16SPEAKER_05: They're purely reliant on God.
- 45:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 45:19SPEAKER_05: Whereas the rich person, they can with quotation marks, they have it all under control.
- 45:23SPEAKER_05: Yeah, exactly.
- 45:24SPEAKER_05: They have everything they feel they need.
- 45:25SPEAKER_05: So there's no need in quotation marks, need for them to rely on God because they have everything.
- 45:31SPEAKER_01: It feels self-sufficient.
- 45:32SPEAKER_05: Control.
- 45:33SPEAKER_05: Yes, control.
- 45:34SPEAKER_05: Um, but I like again, like you were just saying, that uh these verses are flipping it as it's been flipped in Proverbs, as it's been flipped again and again in the Bible, that we view value as a society as rich and poor.
- 45:48SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 45:48SPEAKER_05: Just automatically.
- 45:50SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 45:50SPEAKER_05: And again, highlighting that that poor person will probably make it to heaven and that rich person may not.
- 45:56SPEAKER_05: Like how dare you shame this poor person when God has honored them.
- 46:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 46:01SPEAKER_05: We're all on the same scale, and the Bible shows us that again and again.
- 46:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because God does not care about the riches at all.
- 46:08SPEAKER_01: And it's just it's the the rich person is just seems more appealing to the eye, though, to the flesh.
- 46:14SPEAKER_01: And yeah, in all reality, they most likely are not bearing the fruits of the spirit.
- 46:19SPEAKER_01: They're probably rude, pride, prideful, they're probably selfish.
- 46:24SPEAKER_01: That's why they have so much.
- 46:26SPEAKER_01: You know, like they're like in extent, like obviously all rich people are not.
- 46:34SPEAKER_01: But I mean, like, in the sense of like they they normally lean towards the more like Hudson was just saying, is like I the self-control the self um the control of it all, like they're self-sufficient in their eyes.
- 46:46SPEAKER_01: But that poor person is they probably they're humble and they're loving and they're merciful because they need that, you know?
- 46:51SPEAKER_01: Like they want to be full shown that mercy.
- 46:53SPEAKER_01: So love the neighbor as yourself.
- 46:55SPEAKER_01: If they're probably giving mercy, and they're probably the most they're probably were given mercy, so they're probably the most merciful.
- 47:02SPEAKER_05: I mean, just again, like um Lucas saying it is uh context too, because like you just said, Ramsey, not all rich people are evil.
- 47:10SPEAKER_05: That's not what the verse is saying.
- 47:11SPEAKER_05: Yeah, or even the the verse Audrey brought up, like it's easier for a poor person to make it to heaven than a rich person to something with a camel already.
- 47:20SPEAKER_01: For a rich person to ride a camel.
- 47:22SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 47:23SPEAKER_05: Um but it's more sort of using it as it's not calling you to look at rich people and be like, yo, a person's evil.
- 47:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 47:29SPEAKER_05: Because now you're just starting to generalize and you don't really want to do that.
- 47:32SPEAKER_05: Doing exactly what the rich talking about.
- 47:34SPEAKER_05: But it's more like calling to the fact that you shouldn't see it as rich and poor.
- 47:40SPEAKER_05: Yeah, you should see it as God made me and God made you.
- 47:43SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 47:44SPEAKER_05: And so um, yeah, Ramsey, yeah.
- 47:47SPEAKER_05: I don't I don't know if you should be going looking at every single rich person and being like, yeah, that person's probably prideful and evil.
- 47:54SPEAKER_01: No, but I'm in the context of it all.
- 47:56SPEAKER_05: I mean, if you're looking at the Pharisees, yeah, say that.
- 47:58SPEAKER_05: But if you just meet like the average rich person today, I don't think you should be like, yo.
- 48:02SPEAKER_01: No, I'm not.
- 48:02SPEAKER_05: I think you promise I'm in the do that on your own time.
- 48:06SPEAKER_05: You just go and like, that person's evil.
- 48:08SPEAKER_05: You must tear him down.
- 48:10SPEAKER_02: Uh okay.
- 48:12SPEAKER_02: So nice segue.
- 48:14SPEAKER_02: Let's reckon.
- 48:15SPEAKER_05: Ramsey loves everyone.
- 48:16SPEAKER_05: So smooth.
- 48:17SPEAKER_02: So um I really liked you know going right off of that.
- 48:20SPEAKER_02: Verse 10.
- 48:21SPEAKER_02: Wait, did we skip nine?
- 48:22SPEAKER_02: No, eight and nine.
- 48:23SPEAKER_02: Okay, wait, we did eight and nine, right?
- 48:25SPEAKER_02: No.
- 48:25SPEAKER_06: We need to.
- 48:26SPEAKER_02: We didn't do eight.
- 48:27SPEAKER_02: I thought we just said love your neighbor.
- 48:28SPEAKER_02: No.
- 48:28SPEAKER_02: Oh, I brought that up.
- 48:30SPEAKER_05: That's a big theme.
- 48:30SPEAKER_02: Also, it's uh it's the Bible.
- 48:33SPEAKER_02: I'll catch y'all on 10 and 11.
- 48:34SPEAKER_02: You guys get eight and nine.
- 48:36SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 48:36SPEAKER_01: Um, well, eight and nine says yes, indeed, it is good when you obey the royal law as found in scriptures.
- 48:41SPEAKER_01: Love your neighbor, know your neighbor as yourself.
- 48:43SPEAKER_01: But if you favor some people over others, you are committing a sin.
- 48:46SPEAKER_01: You are guilty as breaking the law.
- 48:47SPEAKER_01: You are guilty of breaking the law.
- 48:50SPEAKER_05: I mean, yeah, I feel like we've talked about all that like already.
- 48:54SPEAKER_05: I mean, don't show favoritism.
- 48:56SPEAKER_05: If you do, you're going against what God said to do.
- 48:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 48:59SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 49:00SPEAKER_02: Um, so just go straight in.
- 49:02SPEAKER_02: You stole verse 10.
- 49:03SPEAKER_02: No, I didn't.
- 49:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 49:04SPEAKER_02: Verse 10 says for the people, for the person who walks who keeps all of the laws except one, is as guilty as a person who has broken all of God's law.
- 49:10SPEAKER_01: No, that's verse 9.
- 49:11SPEAKER_01: But if you have favorite.
- 49:12SPEAKER_02: Okay, I read verse 9.
- 49:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 49:14SPEAKER_02: They're very similar.
- 49:15SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
- 49:16SPEAKER_02: So verse 10 and 11, for the people who keep uh all of the laws except for one, are as guilty as a person who has broken all of God's laws.
- 49:24SPEAKER_02: For the same God who says you must not commit adultery, also said you must not murder.
- 49:28SPEAKER_02: So if you murder someone but do not commit adultery, you've still broken the law.
- 49:32SPEAKER_02: So, like committing one quote unquote little sin doesn't mean that you're not guilty.
- 49:36SPEAKER_02: Saying like telling a white lie doesn't make it okay.
- 49:39SPEAKER_02: We've all heard that, you know?
- 49:40SPEAKER_02: Like sin is sin, and you have wronged God by disobeying him and you know, doing what he didn't want you to do.
- 49:46SPEAKER_02: Like if you've lied, you still need the same forgiveness that somebody who is murdered needs.
- 49:50SPEAKER_02: Like, no amount of forgiveness is different.
- 49:53SPEAKER_02: Forgiveness is forgiveness to God.
- 49:54SPEAKER_02: You know, if you're gonna ask for forgiveness, he's gonna forgive you.
- 49:57SPEAKER_02: There's no like, I'll forgive you halfway for murdering this person, but I'm gonna forgive you all the way for lying because it's less serious.
- 50:04SPEAKER_02: That's not how God views it.
- 50:05SPEAKER_02: Like, neither of you are off the hook just because one seemed less harmful.
- 50:09SPEAKER_02: And that's like a thing that I think as Christians, we see a lot.
- 50:13SPEAKER_02: Like we think of, you know, like sometimes sin doesn't seem bad because you don't see the danger or the threat immediately to anyone or how it can affect anyone.
- 50:21SPEAKER_02: But it's really not about who it's gonna affect.
- 50:24SPEAKER_02: Well, it is because it's God counts, but it's not about what person is it gonna affect.
- 50:29SPEAKER_02: It's about, you know, what is God gonna think?
- 50:31SPEAKER_02: Is it gonna make God happy?
- 50:33SPEAKER_02: Am I gonna honor him or am I gonna break his heart?
- 50:35SPEAKER_02: Am I gonna make him like really disappointed in me by, you know, disobeying him?
- 50:40SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 50:40SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 50:40SPEAKER_05: And it's again, um, I feel like it's just really calling the reader to humble themselves.
- 50:45SPEAKER_05: I mean, at the beginning of this uh chapter, he opened up strongly by pretty much telling you there's no point in saying that you follow God and love God if you show favoritism.
- 50:56SPEAKER_05: And again, he's highlighting how much that matters, that you can keep every other law, every other rule that God has, every other posture God wants you to be in.
- 51:06SPEAKER_05: You could have all those things be true.
- 51:09SPEAKER_05: But if you're just one, say it it is you showing favoritism in people and judging people, just that one thing could be wrong, then what's the point?
- 51:19SPEAKER_05: He's showing how serious it is that there's no uh there's no halfway in this.
- 51:25SPEAKER_05: Like you're either in it for all of it or you're not in it at all.
- 51:29SPEAKER_05: Uh same thing when uh God says he hates uh lukewarm Christians.
- 51:35SPEAKER_05: You can't pick and choose.
- 51:36SPEAKER_05: If you're in this, yeah, if you're living for God, you have to be doing your best to strive for all of these laws, all of these commandments, everything that Jesus personifies, you have to be striving for that.
- 51:48SPEAKER_05: And if you're lacking in even one area, then it isn't just some minor thing, it's you need to do better.
- 51:56SPEAKER_05: Yeah, right.
- 51:57SPEAKER_01: You need to change that.
- 51:59SPEAKER_06: And I love this this comparison.
- 52:01SPEAKER_06: Agreed.
- 52:05SPEAKER_06: I love this comparison in 10 and 11 because it's talked about how one with many, many lists of like of sin that they constantly commit, and one person that just has this one sin that they've done, they're both the same.
- 52:20SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 52:20SPEAKER_06: And this is to me very, very of course, God's wisdom, genius, that God reiterates and he reinforces his own teaching in this book, in these scriptures again and again, because you have the idea of sin being the same in two people no matter the amount.
- 52:38SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 52:39SPEAKER_06: But then also we must be fair to those that are around us.
- 52:43SPEAKER_06: Yeah, you know, so he's he's bringing it back through this one small lesson to us, also that he doesn't he also doesn't do it.
- 52:51SPEAKER_06: And the world now, it has so many gray areas.
- 52:54SPEAKER_06: He said it to where you know we know we must not sin, and that's the one thing we must not do.
- 53:00SPEAKER_06: The hardest thing now that the world has made like a difficult thing is the gray areas, you know, what is sin.
- 53:05SPEAKER_06: Uh-huh.
- 53:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 53:06SPEAKER_02: That's so that's true.
- 53:08SPEAKER_02: But yeah, no, that's um the world's insane.
- 53:12SPEAKER_02: Crazy.
- 53:16SPEAKER_05: It's 2026.
- 53:17SPEAKER_05: I think I want a crazy time.
- 53:18SPEAKER_05: But yeah, at the end of the day, we have to love everyone no matter what, no matter how crazy the world gets.
- 53:25SPEAKER_05: If you're a follower of Christ, do you love everyone in the world?
- 53:29SPEAKER_05: Um, sometimes you may look at what's going on in the world and you maybe find that unfortunate that you're called to love everyone in the world, but you have to.
- 53:37SPEAKER_05: So you better be loving everyone and you better be praying.
- 53:40SPEAKER_05: Do it to it.
- 53:42SPEAKER_05: What he said.
- 53:44SPEAKER_01: To uh kind of touch back on like what honestly both of y'all are saying, uh what y'all are all saying is like, yes, if you do one but not the other, you know, what's the point?
- 53:54SPEAKER_01: Because if you if you love God and hate his people, what's the point?
- 53:56SPEAKER_01: If you're nice to people who are nice to you, what's and but are hate those who hate you, what's the point?
- 54:00SPEAKER_01: If you aren't consistent in what you believe everywhere you go, you know, what is like what is the point of doing any of it?
- 54:05SPEAKER_01: You know, the part of the scripture seems so obvious, like in the grand scheme of things, kind of like what you were saying.
- 54:11SPEAKER_01: Like a white lie doesn't seem that bad, but the Bible says you shall not lie.
- 54:16SPEAKER_01: Um love your neighbor as yourself, but only when it's convenient for you, you know.
- 54:20SPEAKER_01: He tells us, um don't worship idols, but scrolling on your phone for like five hours a day, why does that not like ring a bell that that's that's an idol because it's taking up more time than we're giving to God?
- 54:32SPEAKER_01: You know that's that mindset that we that mindset that we adapt, it it makes excuses for ourselves almost like when when these small things really are much bigger than we realize, and that that mindset can start shifting and into like a confusion almost, like it can come cause can cause confusion in your life, and it's the confusion is literally just a tactic from the devil because if he can get you not focused on the right things, which we've talked about before, it gets you off path.
- 55:03SPEAKER_01: That yeah, thank you.
- 55:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but yeah, and it's like it's almost in our minds, it's as long as we're not breaking those big rules like committing murder or committing adultery, you know, it's it's that we're okay.
- 55:11SPEAKER_01: But it literally writes it what'd you say?
- 55:15SPEAKER_02: It's the real K.
- 55:16SPEAKER_02: It's it's we're okay.
- 55:19SPEAKER_02: Okay, sorry.
- 55:19SPEAKER_01: But it writes that out as clear as possible that if you do one, you must do the other.
- 55:23SPEAKER_01: And it's just like we get that we get lost sometimes in that.
- 55:27SPEAKER_01: Like, why do we think that those small things are okay when in reality they aren't?
- 55:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 55:32SPEAKER_05: Yeah, no, that's really good.
- 55:33SPEAKER_05: It's a it's like two-in-one, it's a call to you know, humble yourself and that these little things matter just as much as killing someone, like you just said.
- 55:42SPEAKER_05: So yeah, I like that.
- 55:43SPEAKER_05: That you have to keep in mind as a Christian that you telling a white lie and you murdering someone, I mean, yeah, it seems pretty crazy.
- 55:52SPEAKER_05: And obviously, for one here on earth, you need to go to jail.
- 55:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like more like morally one's more wrong than the other.
- 55:59SPEAKER_05: But to God, yeah.
- 56:01SPEAKER_05: If you're committing one sin, you might as well be committing all of them.
- 56:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, to God, you're breaking his law, and that's breaking breaking his law is breaking his law.
- 56:07SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 56:07SPEAKER_01: It doesn't matter which one you're doing.
- 56:08SPEAKER_05: Yeah, so there's no sin you can afford to commit because it's not as bad as other sins.
- 56:13SPEAKER_05: If you're in this, you're in it.
- 56:14SPEAKER_05: You're cooked.
- 56:16SPEAKER_05: Yep.
- 56:18SPEAKER_01: What Luke said.
- 56:20SPEAKER_01: The title can just be what Luke said.
- 56:22SPEAKER_05: The ideal is to not be cooked.
- 56:24SPEAKER_05: So you just start and start praying.
- 56:28SPEAKER_01: So continuing on, the the last few verses of this seamless segue is so uh verse 12 So whatever you say or whatever you do, remember that you will be judged by the law that sets you free.
- 56:43SPEAKER_01: Whoa.
- 56:43SPEAKER_01: There will be no mercy for those who have not shown mercy to others.
- 56:46SPEAKER_01: But if you have been merciful, God will be merciful when he judges you.
- 56:50SPEAKER_02: Whoa.
- 56:50SPEAKER_06: That really hits home.
- 56:51SPEAKER_01: It's like, why is he so direct in this?
- 56:54SPEAKER_01: Like he was like, I'm just gonna slap y'all on the face like a bunch of times, and y'all are gonna have to sit through it.
- 56:58SPEAKER_01: And we were like, okay.
- 56:59SPEAKER_06: He's like, I know the other verses, the other like 11 or so were like boring, and you probably don't want to follow that, but if you don't, check out what'll happen.
- 57:07SPEAKER_01: Like you will be judged by the law that sets you free.
- 57:11SPEAKER_01: Like, I don't like that, just like that part stands out so much because it's it really is so much bigger than we think it is.
- 57:18SPEAKER_01: This is gonna be, this is all adds up on the day of judgment.
- 57:20SPEAKER_01: Like, right, this isn't this isn't small if you haven't asked for forgiveness or you haven't forgiven others.
- 57:27SPEAKER_01: This isn't like a small thing, you will be judged.
- 57:29SPEAKER_01: But like if you're merciful and you do forgive and you and mercy and forgiveness kind of go hand in hand.
- 57:34SPEAKER_01: It's like recognizing that people make mistakes and fall, and you have to give mercy to that as God gives mercy to you and forgive them if it hit you personally, they go hand in hand.
- 57:43SPEAKER_01: But like I lost train of thought, but if you have but it says it literally, this is like genuinely so straightforward.
- 57:51SPEAKER_01: If you have been merciful, God would be mercy.
- 57:53SPEAKER_05: So impactful, you know, being judged by the law that sets you free.
- 57:58SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 57:58SPEAKER_05: Um, if you haven't made the connection, the law that sets you free, that's Jesus, dude.
- 58:02SPEAKER_05: Yeah, Jesus' mercy is the reason we have been set free.
- 58:05SPEAKER_05: He died on that cross, and we did not deserve that, not a single one of us.
- 58:09SPEAKER_05: His mercy is what set us free.
- 58:13SPEAKER_05: But we will be judged by that same standard if we don't show mercy to others.
- 58:16SPEAKER_05: How crazy is that that God died for you, God gave his life for you.
- 58:22SPEAKER_05: Same thing.
- 58:23SPEAKER_05: I've said it twice, I don't know why, it's impactful.
- 58:25SPEAKER_05: Yeah, but he did that for you.
- 58:26SPEAKER_05: You didn't deserve it, he showed you that mercy, and yet you can condemn yourself by not showing that same mercy to others.
- 58:33SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 58:34SPEAKER_05: It's just how powerful is that.
- 58:35SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 58:36SPEAKER_06: Even in in Matthew 7 2, it reiterates the same thing that James 2 13 says.
- 58:40SPEAKER_06: It says, For you will be treated as you treat others.
- 58:43SPEAKER_06: The standard you use in judging is the standard by which you will be judged.
- 58:47SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 58:48SPEAKER_06: That just that in a different way, you know, it hits also.
- 58:52SPEAKER_05: And it's the standard, God's standard of mercy that we were all saved by.
- 58:57SPEAKER_05: And if we're making our own standard and not by God's standard, or just you know, someone wrongs you and you just be like, punch them.
- 59:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that.
- 59:07SPEAKER_05: Or anything like that, then you're missing the mark.
- 59:11SPEAKER_05: And God's like saying, Bro, I die for you, and you're really gonna punch someone because they owe you like two cents.
- 59:17SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 59:19SPEAKER_06: Yeah, we can't go punching, dropkicking people.
- 59:21SPEAKER_06: It's not good.
- 59:24SPEAKER_05: Can you imagine you owe someone a debt and they genuinely just come dropkick you next time they see you?
- 59:30SPEAKER_02: You guys haven't done that?
- 59:32SPEAKER_05: No.
- 59:32SPEAKER_05: Um, I'm safe, sister.
- 59:35SPEAKER_05: I don't do that.
- 59:37SPEAKER_02: My bad.
- 59:39SPEAKER_05: But yeah, that's um that's powerful.
- 59:42SPEAKER_05: Just yeah, yeah.
- 59:43SPEAKER_05: You really gotta keep that in mind.
- 59:44SPEAKER_05: That God died for you.
- 59:46SPEAKER_05: So who are you to not show mercy?
- 59:48SPEAKER_01: Who are you to judge like at all?
- 59:50SPEAKER_05: Yeah, because God didn't hesitate.
- 59:54SPEAKER_05: No, this was a plan he set in motion.
- 59:57SPEAKER_05: Um he died on that cross intentionally to save you, and he had mercy that you didn't deserve, I didn't deserve, no one deserved.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_05: So you can't be judging people, bro.
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I just add like one more thing.
- 1:00:07SPEAKER_01: I think I kind of already mentioned it, but this just reading through James has like reminded me that like our goal, like, who are we to judge, you know, if God didn't judge us?
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_01: Our goal this whole time is just to be more like Jesus, you know, like we should be praying, Lord, make me more like you.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_01: And it just keeps like re-um, what's that word?
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_01: Emphasizing, reiterating that the whole point is just to be more like Jesus, you know, it's it's not to create our own standards for these people and our own like set things of right and wrong more like in the world, it's to follow what Jesus said in his law, you know, and in his ways of giving grace and mercy.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_05: Yeah, amen.
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_01: Does that deserve five big booms?
- 1:00:54SPEAKER_01: Can we get five big booms?
- 1:00:56SPEAKER_01: Boom, boom, boom.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_01: Y'all gotta do it.
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, ready?
- 1:01:00SPEAKER_01: Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom.
- 1:01:05SPEAKER_02: Oh, boom.
- 1:01:06SPEAKER_02: Sorry.
- 1:01:07SPEAKER_05: I know producer Brian loved that one.
- 1:01:09SPEAKER_05: But alright.
- 1:01:11SPEAKER_05: Boom.
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_02: Time to sum it up.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_05: But um we had talked about a lot.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_05: I feel like um I feel like we did a good bit of yapping in this one.
- 1:01:20SPEAKER_05: It's good to have you back, Audrey.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_05: Yeah, um, yeah.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_05: We missed our yapper.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_05: Um but um but yeah, I'd say if you haven't listened to um Pastor Jerry's message, and if you haven't been following along with the God Can series, you might be fake.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_01: Just a little.
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_00: Just a little bit.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_00: A little bit.
- 1:01:39SPEAKER_01: It's almost over, so go catch up.
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_05: But no, if you don't want to go listen to it, you know, just take one key thing from it that if God's trying to take you somewhere, don't hold on to the old ways.
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_05: Um ask God to change you, not just change your circumstances, not just take you to a a new level, ask God to change you as well with it and help you change because you can't truly get to where God wants to bring you if you're just doing the same thing over and over.
- 1:02:05SPEAKER_05: You never change it.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_05: So yeah, keep that in mind and you know, let God change you.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_05: Be aware of that.
- 1:02:11SPEAKER_05: Um, and for James, wow, where do I even like start?
- 1:02:15SPEAKER_05: We talked about so much.
- 1:02:17SPEAKER_05: Uh I like what Ramsey said.
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_05: Be more like Jesus, Jesus that judge people, you don't judge him either.
- 1:02:23SPEAKER_05: Um but no, analyze yourself because I've I've done this in the past, and you know the results can be surprising.
- 1:02:30SPEAKER_05: Uh big shocker if you analyze yourself, you find things.
- 1:02:33SPEAKER_05: But um, do you show favoritism in little things?
- 1:02:36SPEAKER_05: Are there small judgments that you make towards some people and not the other?
- 1:02:40SPEAKER_05: Um, it may not be as specific as that, but just analyze the things you think.
- 1:02:46SPEAKER_05: Would this make Jesus happy?
- 1:02:47SPEAKER_05: Would Jesus think this?
- 1:02:48SPEAKER_05: Would Jesus have this preconceived idea and just pray about it?
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_05: Ask God to highlight things like that in your heart that you may not even know is kind of going against what you want.
- 1:02:59SPEAKER_05: So just pray for it, ask for guidance.
- 1:03:01SPEAKER_05: Um, and it's not a holier than thou thing, because I've had to do that in the past.
- 1:03:06SPEAKER_05: Um so just let God work with you.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_05: But yeah, we talked a lot.
- 1:03:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we did.
- 1:03:13SPEAKER_02: Um, thank you guys so much for listening.
- 1:03:15SPEAKER_02: Make sure to tune in next Thursday for another episode, and we'll um, I guess talk to you then.
- 1:03:20SPEAKER_02: Bye.
- 1:03:21SPEAKER_02: Bye.
