- 0:00Speaker 1: On the show today the z Ax Charbonet Surprise and
- 0:03Speaker 1: all I saw and heard the first of three Seahawks
- 0:06Speaker 1: mandatory mini camp practices. You'll hear from Jackson Smith and
- 0:08Speaker 1: Jigba about why he got a new NFL Offensive Player
- 0:12Speaker 1: of the Year Award trophy, how life has changed for
- 0:15Speaker 1: him since he signed a record one hundred and sixty
- 0:17Speaker 1: eight million dollar contract extension for the Seahawks, and more
- 0:20Speaker 1: from Jackson Smith and Jigba on the show. How the
- 0:23Speaker 1: six man rotation the Mariners have gone to is limiting
- 0:25Speaker 1: their bullpen and it's options. Jose Ferrera found that out
- 0:29Speaker 1: last night and a marathon outing. He had to do it.
- 0:32Speaker 1: I mean, the only reason de Villa was even in
- 0:35Speaker 1: the game in a ten things, he was the last
- 0:36Speaker 1: guy in the bullpen available and no one left. That's
- 0:40Speaker 1: what the six man rotation has done to the Mariners' bullpen.
- 0:43Speaker 1: At eleven o'clock, I have a keyword for your chance
- 0:45Speaker 1: to win twenty five hundred dollars in our nationwide contest
- 0:49Speaker 1: as we do eleven o'clock every day. Also at eleven o'clock,
- 0:53Speaker 1: probably when you hear Jackson Smith, jig but we're trying
- 0:56Speaker 1: to get a national college football writer, on to talk
- 0:58Speaker 1: about the Brandon soresby the fallout of the Texas Tech situation,
- 1:02Speaker 1: what might be next eleven thirty year text and to
- 1:06Speaker 1: come at outs text line four, nine to four, five
- 1:08Speaker 1: to one, like we do every day at eleven thirty
- 1:11Speaker 1: I in Finessel then join us before his show right out
- 1:13Speaker 1: here from Seahawks headquarters from twelve until three. I know
- 1:18Speaker 1: a Rose Arena had the home run late last night.
- 1:20Speaker 1: I mean that was the decisive blow, three run homer
- 1:23Speaker 1: for Garver earlier in the game for five of the Mariners'
- 1:27Speaker 1: six runs. But Ryan Bliss Man two games now, my guy,
- 1:32Speaker 1: Patrick Wisdom, Nick Davila again they won the game last night.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Three guys that are not in the plans for the
- 1:39Speaker 1: Mariners to defend their American League West title at the
- 1:43Speaker 1: start of this season. Ryan Blizz, Patrick Wisdom, Nick Davila.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Bliss got Jose Ferrera out of his forty two pitch
- 1:50Speaker 1: jam in the eighth inning with this play.
- 1:54Speaker 2: Here it comes crownd ball up the middle. Bliz had
- 1:58Speaker 2: it a butt Rice.
- 1:59Speaker 3: Hey out on second base.
- 2:03Speaker 1: The sprint was on speed kills. That's Aaron Goldsmith of course,
- 2:08Speaker 1: with Ryan Roland Smith exclaiming in the background on the
- 2:10Speaker 1: Mariners TV broadcast, that's the dimension Bliss brings his speed.
- 2:15Speaker 1: I mean you you either have it or don't. And
- 2:19Speaker 1: the plays he made last night were because of his speed.
- 2:21Speaker 1: He raced the second base if he doesn't get there
- 2:23Speaker 1: first before the runner coming from first to second, the
- 2:26Speaker 1: tying run scores in the eighth inning and then night
- 2:30Speaker 1: thenning he races over as a pop fly behind first
- 2:34Speaker 1: base that Josh Naylor wasn't gonna get and that could
- 2:37Speaker 1: have been the winning run and Bliss it was a
- 2:39Speaker 1: runner third and nobody out, and Bliss came flying in
- 2:42Speaker 1: from his second base position, caught the ball near the
- 2:45Speaker 1: right field line and got to his feet quickly before
- 2:47Speaker 1: the runner a third could even think about tagging up
- 2:50Speaker 1: and running home. And that saved a run. And then
- 2:54Speaker 1: Tovila got out of it play by Wisdom, a backhanded play,
- 2:59Speaker 1: a soft chop to the third baseline. Patrick Wisdom, a
- 3:03Speaker 1: big guy, moved to his right against the foul line
- 3:06Speaker 1: and in one motion through home and got the out
- 3:09Speaker 1: at home to cut down what would have been the
- 3:11Speaker 1: tying run. In the bottom of the tenth inning for
- 3:14Speaker 1: the Orioles. That's how David got its first career save.
- 3:19Speaker 1: He's been He's a starter in the minor leagues. He's
- 3:21Speaker 1: now been eight and a third innings pitching for the
- 3:24Speaker 1: Mariners this year. He's yet to allow an earned run.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Last night he was pitching after getting on a red eye.
- 3:31Speaker 1: He was in Tacoma, Chrits. The night before. He got
- 3:34Speaker 1: a clubhouse attendant to meet him at SeaTac airport to
- 3:38Speaker 1: get his stuff. He didn't have time to get all
- 3:39Speaker 1: his stuff, so a clubhouse guy for the Verniers met
- 3:43Speaker 1: him at SeaTac for red eye flight to Baltimore. He
- 3:46Speaker 1: gets in at like eight of ten nine am. By
- 3:48Speaker 1: the time we got to the hotel downtown Baltimore was
- 3:50Speaker 1: like ten am. Got a couple hours of sleep, took
- 3:53Speaker 1: the late bus for a six thirty start. About a
- 3:57Speaker 1: two to thirty bus from the telling Baltimore. Davida gets
- 4:02Speaker 1: on the bus thinking, when this is a whirlwind, I
- 4:04Speaker 1: don't even have my stuff. His clothes never made it.
- 4:07Speaker 1: So now they got two players in Baltimore, Ryan Bliss,
- 4:09Speaker 1: who got his luggage loss getting called up from Sacramento
- 4:13Speaker 1: last weekend, and now Dovila, who don't have their clothes.
- 4:17Speaker 1: They're both contributing mightily to the Mariner's latest win to
- 4:20Speaker 1: keep them two games up in first place in the
- 4:22Speaker 1: American League West. But Dovila didn't expect to pitch, and
- 4:27Speaker 1: he just said. He told the Seattle Times Adam Jude
- 4:30Speaker 1: after the game, I couldn't believe I was in the game.
- 4:33Speaker 1: I kind of blacked out. But he had to be
- 4:35Speaker 1: because there was nobody left in the bullpen between that
- 4:40Speaker 1: Wisdoms play at third base, Wisdom told MLB dot Com
- 4:44Speaker 1: beat writer Daniel Kramer, the friend of ours on the show,
- 4:47Speaker 1: you try to calm yourself because you don't want a
- 4:49Speaker 1: white knucklet out there, but just kind of be athletic,
- 4:52Speaker 1: and you're obviously aware that that's the tying run. By
- 4:56Speaker 1: the way, we may think of Wisdom as a first
- 4:58Speaker 1: basin because that's what he was playing when he first
- 5:00Speaker 1: came up from Tacoma, but last night was his two
- 5:04Speaker 1: hundred and eighty fifth career game at third base, former
- 5:07Speaker 1: Chicago Cubs starting third basement for a while, He's made
- 5:09Speaker 1: eighty six major league starts at first base, so he's
- 5:12Speaker 1: been three times as often the third basement in the
- 5:15Speaker 1: major leagues, and he looked like it last night with
- 5:18Speaker 1: the game on the line. That's a winning teams have
- 5:21Speaker 1: to get Chris right out of nowhere, dudes who aren't
- 5:23Speaker 1: expecting to contribute. That's how you win titles when you
- 5:26Speaker 1: get massive contributions from injury replacements and guys you didn't
- 5:30Speaker 1: have in your plans.
- 5:32Speaker 4: Absolutely, you can look at a team that just wanted
- 5:34Speaker 4: to were bowling the Seahawks and what they had with
- 5:36Speaker 4: Nicki Minwarri, guys stepping up, Gray's Abel a rookie. So
- 5:41Speaker 4: it's important to have these young pieces on your team
- 5:44Speaker 4: affecting the game on a positive note. So when you
- 5:47Speaker 4: look at it for the manners perspective, you can say, Okay, yeah,
- 5:51Speaker 4: a guy like Ryan Bliss stepping up. He might not
- 5:54Speaker 4: be hitting, he may not be doing all those other things,
- 5:56Speaker 4: but it's his hustle to get a guy out big moment.
- 6:01Speaker 4: It's all these other things that I think can make
- 6:03Speaker 4: this team a much more, much more of a contender
- 6:07Speaker 4: right now where there's still a good playoff team, but
- 6:10Speaker 4: we want to see I know fans want to see
- 6:11Speaker 4: this team evolve into that World Series, like, oh my goodness,
- 6:14Speaker 4: they're gonna match up well against I guess the Dodgers
- 6:18Speaker 4: in this scenario. So that's kind of how you want
- 6:20Speaker 4: to view this team, and I think they're they're they're
- 6:23Speaker 4: inching towards that. Obviously, when they get a few guys back, hint, hint,
- 6:27Speaker 4: I think they'll be even better. So we'll just have
- 6:30Speaker 4: to see how it all plays out. Right now, they're
- 6:33Speaker 4: in a good position, and I think they can build
- 6:36Speaker 4: from this, and I'm hoping that Ryan Bliss continues to
- 6:41Speaker 4: play well and even gets better in terms of hitting
- 6:43Speaker 4: and being on base and using his speed elsewhere on
- 6:46Speaker 4: the field, because he is we saw all the best
- 6:49Speaker 4: of them. I think in twenty twenty four when we
- 6:50Speaker 4: had the show, he was playing really good baseball. That's
- 6:52Speaker 4: how the phrase came up. More Bliss, please, because he
- 6:54Speaker 4: was just out there doing his thing night in and
- 6:57Speaker 4: night out.
- 6:58Speaker 2: And now he's been in a little of an up
- 7:00Speaker 2: and down.
- 7:01Speaker 4: But I think the more opportunities that he gets, I
- 7:04Speaker 4: think he will definitely improve from that, and perhaps maybe
- 7:08Speaker 4: he can be a cog later on in the season.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Who knows he needs to stick around because he gives
- 7:12Speaker 1: them a dibench and they don't have with that speed
- 7:14Speaker 1: I'm talking about, he can use him off the bench
- 7:16Speaker 1: to pinch run and steal a base if you need
- 7:19Speaker 1: him to. He can bind something that everybody on the
- 7:22Speaker 1: team can do. And the defense, This defense has been suspect, yeah,
- 7:27Speaker 1: and most of the season.
- 7:28Speaker 4: And now it's the defense is changing outcomes. Yeah, Ryan
- 7:32Speaker 4: Blizz making games, saving plays. You mentioned Patrick Wisdom throwing
- 7:35Speaker 4: out runners going home two times, Mitch Garver difficult tags,
- 7:40Speaker 4: and I think also Cole Young has had some stuff
- 7:42Speaker 4: as a shortstop. So I'm really liking what I'm seeing.
- 7:44Speaker 4: And then Randy rose Arena. He's becoming this engine for
- 7:47Speaker 4: this team emotionalwise, so the energy, patience and that clutch hitting.
- 7:52Speaker 4: I'm just excited just to see these other guys stepping
- 7:54Speaker 4: up and absence of two players that are like, man,
- 7:57Speaker 4: we could really use them, and.
- 7:58Speaker 2: Then the list can go on.
- 8:00Speaker 4: There's still still some concerns, but I don't want to
- 8:04Speaker 4: worry about that. They didn't win last night, So let's
- 8:06Speaker 4: let's not worry about the l's and look at what
- 8:09Speaker 4: they're doing now and hopefully they can stack those good
- 8:12Speaker 4: plays and make them into a long term thing instead
- 8:16Speaker 4: of Oh, they won three games in a row and
- 8:17Speaker 4: now they take two steps back four games.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Over five hundred. Correcting what I said for a moment ago,
- 8:22Speaker 1: They're now three games up in the American League West.
- 8:24Speaker 1: Because Texas lost last night, Texas now two games under
- 8:28Speaker 1: five hundred. The Mariner's four games on the plus side
- 8:31Speaker 1: of five hundred, So that's a three game lead in
- 8:33Speaker 1: the American League West. But let's talk about this six
- 8:36Speaker 1: man rotation. We talk about that piggybacking and between Castile
- 8:40Speaker 1: and Miller, and now it's six man because they're playing
- 8:42Speaker 1: sixteen games in seventeen days. What no one's really talking
- 8:46Speaker 1: about is what the effect of the six man rotation
- 8:48Speaker 1: has on the bullpen. You count the six starters, means
- 8:53Speaker 1: there's one fewer dude in the bullpen. Plus the Mariners
- 8:56Speaker 1: rules on how they use their relievers, how they won't
- 8:58Speaker 1: use relievers on some back the back days, limiting and
- 9:01Speaker 1: won't have him start new innings. By and large, most
- 9:04Speaker 1: of their guys, the M's are already a man short
- 9:07Speaker 1: with rules in the bullpen, and Jose Ferrer had to
- 9:11Speaker 1: wear that last night. Farrer has been awesome all season.
- 9:14Speaker 1: Of course, the left handed the Nationals closer last season
- 9:18Speaker 1: that they got in the offseason trade. He had to
- 9:20Speaker 1: throw forty two pitches last night, and manager Dan Wilson
- 9:24Speaker 1: had to leave him out there while he allowed three
- 9:26Speaker 1: hits and two runs and he ate inning and misplayed
- 9:28Speaker 1: a ground ball when all he do is get an
- 9:31Speaker 1: out with the lead. Yours ended up tying the game.
- 9:34Speaker 1: Excuse me. In the bottom of the ninth, took force
- 9:36Speaker 1: extra innings against Ferrer, but he was had to stay
- 9:39Speaker 1: out there for forty two pitches because they didn't have
- 9:41Speaker 1: anybody else. Last night was just a second time in
- 9:44Speaker 1: thirty three appearances this season that Farrer had allowed two
- 9:46Speaker 1: runs and as many as three hits in an outing.
- 9:49Speaker 1: Cooper Criswallis had to pitch multiple high leverage innings. Forty
- 9:54Speaker 1: two pitches last night for Farrer was thirteen more than
- 9:57Speaker 1: his previous season high. Now in his thirties, that's not
- 10:01Speaker 1: something you want to do with a guy late inning reliever.
- 10:03Speaker 1: They've been reluctant to use Gabe Spyer and Matt Brash
- 10:06Speaker 1: on consecutive nights coming off injuries. Brash couldn't hit the
- 10:09Speaker 1: side of a barn the other night coming in with
- 10:11Speaker 1: his slider orris fastball. We've talked about Andres Munhos's issues
- 10:16Speaker 1: as long as there's six starters, Because this is the
- 10:18Speaker 1: way it's gonna be in the bullpen. They're gonna be
- 10:20Speaker 1: a man down, and they're gonna be with all these
- 10:21Speaker 1: rules and restrictions and limitations they put on themselves. It's
- 10:25Speaker 1: why I think they got to get away from using
- 10:27Speaker 1: Munos only in safe situations and only in the ninth inning.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Use him to preserve the lead. Whenever in the late innings,
- 10:35Speaker 1: whenever the opponent's best bats are coming up. That's the
- 10:37Speaker 1: seventh inning, so be it. If it's the eighth and
- 10:39Speaker 1: they got the two three fourths coming up and you're
- 10:42Speaker 1: trying to protect the one running lead. Instead of having
- 10:44Speaker 1: to bridge a guy to get the munos in the night,
- 10:46Speaker 1: bring munos in the eighth. I know it's not a
- 10:48Speaker 1: safe situation, and that's not how he's getting his contract
- 10:51Speaker 1: in his pay. It the way this bullpen is now
- 10:55Speaker 1: rigidly saying, I'm only gonna use We're only gonna use
- 10:57Speaker 1: munios in a save situation, in a as the bat
- 11:01Speaker 1: is really hamstringing them and causing them all kinds of stuff.
- 11:05Speaker 1: I mean, Cooper Criswell should not be pitching a couple
- 11:07Speaker 1: of innings in high leverage, but he's had to now
- 11:10Speaker 1: he's injured, which is the whole reason Davila was in
- 11:12Speaker 1: there last night. And there's no expectation that Davila, off
- 11:15Speaker 1: a red eye flight, was going to be in the
- 11:17Speaker 1: tenth ending of the game trying to win it. And
- 11:19Speaker 1: that's what a first place team is doing right now
- 11:21Speaker 1: with this six man rotation, leaving them a guy short.
- 11:24Speaker 1: Four nine, four to five one on the Komododge tech line.
- 11:27Speaker 1: Your view of the six man rotation? Should they just
- 11:29Speaker 1: stay with it because the starters it's working, I mean,
- 11:32Speaker 1: Castile and Miller are playing great, but there is a
- 11:36Speaker 1: collateral cost, and it's the bullpen and the fact that
- 11:39Speaker 1: you're having one fewer guy in that bullpen and the
- 11:41Speaker 1: way this game is played today, major League Baseball's game.
- 11:44Speaker 1: There are no complete games. You're gonna use a bullpen
- 11:47Speaker 1: guy every night, multiple guys usually every night, and when
- 11:51Speaker 1: you have one fewer bullpen arm, the six man rotation
- 11:55Speaker 1: hurts you in that regard four nine, four to five one.
- 11:57Speaker 1: Your view of the six man rotation, whether they should
- 11:59Speaker 1: go back to five you steal in the bullpen perhaps,
- 12:02Speaker 1: or should they just go status quo and figure it
- 12:04Speaker 1: out with what they have with the relievers. And again
- 12:08Speaker 1: I submit that they put munios in other than in
- 12:11Speaker 1: save situations, so they give themselves some more flexibility. Up next, Seahawks.
- 12:15Speaker 1: I'm out here. The Seahawks had a team meeting. The
- 12:18Speaker 1: base was bumping off the walls here a few minutes ago,
- 12:21Speaker 1: right next to me inside the building. They'll be out
- 12:23Speaker 1: on the field for the second practice of Mini camp today.
- 12:26Speaker 1: I'll tell you what I saw in the first practice yesterday,
- 12:28Speaker 1: including what's up with Jadari and Price, the latest on
- 12:31Speaker 1: him and the rookie running back position change for a
- 12:34Speaker 1: defensive player that's showing a lot of promise. What Devin
- 12:37Speaker 1: Witherspoon is up to, Jackson Smith and Jigba. You'll hear
- 12:41Speaker 1: what I saw and wrote about in the News Tribune.
- 12:43Speaker 1: Next on ninety three point three kJ RFM, Hi, welcome back,
- 12:53Speaker 1: thanks for listening. Greg Belts Show with Christopher Kidd Live
- 12:55Speaker 1: on ninety three point three k j R f MM
- 12:58Speaker 1: at the Virginia Mason Center in Redmond in Renton of
- 13:03Speaker 1: Redmond for the second of three Mini camp days. Practice
- 13:08Speaker 1: today shorter one today than two and a half hour
- 13:10Speaker 1: one yesterday. The Seahawks just announced this morning that training
- 13:13Speaker 1: camp will begin July twenty fifth. I've been talking about
- 13:16Speaker 1: how it's been honor about the twenty fifth. The first
- 13:18Speaker 1: practice will be on July twenty fifth out here at
- 13:22Speaker 1: Seahawks headquarters. You can go to the teamwebsite seahawks dot
- 13:25Speaker 1: com to register if you want to come out and
- 13:28Speaker 1: watch practices. Those have never been out here. You sit
- 13:31Speaker 1: on the grass burm you're watching practice. You can go
- 13:33Speaker 1: down and get in autographs from the players after the practice,
- 13:37Speaker 1: and Mike McDonald really really stresses players going over to
- 13:41Speaker 1: the fans at the bottom of the burm to do
- 13:45Speaker 1: autographs and pictures after those practices. So the first practice
- 13:48Speaker 1: July twenty fifth, that'll be the start of training camp
- 13:51Speaker 1: for the Seahawks. The first preseason game August fifteenth. So
- 13:55Speaker 1: after tomorrow's practice, they're done. They're done for six weeks
- 13:59Speaker 1: and then off until training camp starts officially now on
- 14:03Speaker 1: July twenty fifth. What I see yesterday the start of
- 14:05Speaker 1: the first and only mandatory event of the off season.
- 14:11Speaker 1: First of all, everyone was there. Pretty much everyone was there.
- 14:14Speaker 1: I mean DeMarcus Lawrence at thirty four was there all
- 14:16Speaker 1: the veterans were there. Devin Witherspoon, waiting on his contract,
- 14:19Speaker 1: was there. He fully participated, more than he did in
- 14:22Speaker 1: OTAs that was noticeable to me in OTA practices, the
- 14:25Speaker 1: voluntary work. He was here Witherspoon, but the three time
- 14:28Speaker 1: Pro Bowl cornerback was sitting out and watching most of
- 14:32Speaker 1: the practice. The scrimmages eleven and eleven. It looked to
- 14:35Speaker 1: me at the time last week did it was his
- 14:37Speaker 1: agent telling him, Okay, eliminate all possibility you getting hurt
- 14:41Speaker 1: before you sign your deal. Don't do the eleven on eleven. Well,
- 14:44Speaker 1: yesterday he was full go. I mean we got the
- 14:47Speaker 1: full Devin Witherspoon. Yesterday he was at left corner, he
- 14:49Speaker 1: was at right corner. He was inside in the slot.
- 14:52Speaker 1: At one point, Jake Bowie, the Witherspoon and the starters
- 14:55Speaker 1: were off on the side watching twos versus twos, and
- 14:59Speaker 1: Jake Bobbo caught a bubble screen. Of course, it's in
- 15:02Speaker 1: shorts and T shirts and helmets and you're not hitting anybody.
- 15:05Speaker 1: So Bobo runs through everybody and runs around all the defenders.
- 15:08Speaker 1: For which should have been a two or three yard
- 15:11Speaker 1: game looked like a twenty yard game, and Witherspoon just
- 15:14Speaker 1: let him have it from the sidelines. O, hell no,
- 15:16Speaker 1: in a game that wouldn't have happened. You're not fast
- 15:19Speaker 1: enough to do that, and all day. So the full
- 15:20Speaker 1: Devin Witherspoon was there yesterday. But the most newsworthy thing
- 15:25Speaker 1: that I led my story at the News Tribune dot
- 15:27Speaker 1: com it's up right now you can go read it,
- 15:29Speaker 1: is that Zach Sharboney was on a field, not practicing,
- 15:33Speaker 1: but he was on a side field against the lake
- 15:36Speaker 1: with a trainer doing about fifteen minutes of high knees
- 15:41Speaker 1: of machine gun like leg cadence of really fast chopping
- 15:45Speaker 1: of Heinee hurdler type training drills, some lateral movement Chris.
- 15:51Speaker 1: He looked like anything but a guy who just had
- 15:53Speaker 1: reconstructive knee surgery in mid February. I mean, remember he
- 15:57Speaker 1: didn't get hurt till mid January. There's a playoff game
- 16:00Speaker 1: against the forty nine ers six months ago, but he
- 16:03Speaker 1: didn't have the surgery for another month because he had
- 16:06Speaker 1: to get the swelling to come down. So he's not
- 16:11Speaker 1: even four full months out from that reconstructive surgery, and
- 16:14Speaker 1: here he was yesterday out on the field in flat
- 16:16Speaker 1: tennis shoes, running shoes in a hoodie and sweatpants with
- 16:20Speaker 1: a trainer, looking very fluid. I have in my story
- 16:24Speaker 1: and on my Twitter account at g Beel Seattle the
- 16:28Speaker 1: video of him with the trainer and Chris. Frankly, it
- 16:32Speaker 1: surprised me. I didn't think i'd see him on the
- 16:33Speaker 1: field doing anything other than watching until August or something.
- 16:38Speaker 2: I right there with you. What did I say?
- 16:40Speaker 4: I don't think he'll be playing meaningful ball till maybe October,
- 16:43Speaker 4: and that's even if he is able to, because they're
- 16:46Speaker 4: not gonna give him a full workload.
- 16:47Speaker 2: You want to ease him in.
- 16:48Speaker 4: You don't want to just say, hey, October, here you're
- 16:50Speaker 4: time to run, go get the ball. You know that
- 16:52Speaker 4: that's not how the Seahawks do things. And to hear
- 16:55Speaker 4: that he's already on the field and reading your story
- 16:57Speaker 4: that he is probably a head of schedule, that's really
- 17:00Speaker 4: cool to see. But I'm sure there was stuff off
- 17:03Speaker 4: the screen that we didn't see. That he's worked his
- 17:05Speaker 4: tail off to get back to this moment. So it's
- 17:07Speaker 4: obviously a wait and see, but I'm guessing he would
- 17:10Speaker 4: definitely be an interesting name come training camp. So in
- 17:15Speaker 4: July July twenty five. That's what about thirty five days
- 17:18Speaker 4: from now. Could he actually be out there getting full reps.
- 17:24Speaker 4: Probably not, but the fact that he is working with
- 17:28Speaker 4: trainers on the side and working on the field, that's
- 17:32Speaker 4: definitely a good side.
- 17:33Speaker 2: So I would guess he could be ready by week one.
- 17:36Speaker 1: It looks more likely than it did before yesterday that
- 17:39Speaker 1: he might be able to week win. Remember it's eight
- 17:41Speaker 1: to twelve months is typically the recovery time for a
- 17:44Speaker 1: football player from an ACL and reconstructive surgery. Eight months
- 17:49Speaker 1: would be from the injury would be mid September. Eight
- 17:52Speaker 1: months from the surgery would be mid October. Now you're
- 17:55Speaker 1: four or five games into the season. That's part of
- 17:58Speaker 1: the reason that drafted did Our Price. Let's face it
- 18:01Speaker 1: also that Zack Charbonay coming off the injury, is entering
- 18:04Speaker 1: the final year of his rookie contract is another reason
- 18:07Speaker 1: that they drafted Jedari and Price the first round pick
- 18:10Speaker 1: out a Notre Dame. But yeah, yesterday was a development
- 18:14Speaker 1: that started to say, eh, maybe Mike McDonald wasn't blowing
- 18:17Speaker 1: smoke at the combine in all off season when he
- 18:20Speaker 1: was being very vague, if not coy, about when Sharbonay
- 18:23Speaker 1: might come back. He said to us at the combine
- 18:26Speaker 1: at the end of February and in Indianapolis. Quote, if
- 18:30Speaker 1: you're betting on anybody, you're gonna bet on Zach. He's
- 18:33Speaker 1: not gonna do anything in the spring. Well, then yesterday
- 18:35Speaker 1: he did that. I mean, that's not football work, but
- 18:37Speaker 1: it's sure it's more than any of us expected. That
- 18:40Speaker 1: really surprised me yesterday. We'll see, we'll keep an eye
- 18:43Speaker 1: on it. I still think he's most likely to be
- 18:45Speaker 1: on the physically unable to perform list to begin training camp,
- 18:49Speaker 1: which you can come off of at any time during
- 18:51Speaker 1: training PAMP if that gives you the option to put
- 18:53Speaker 1: him on the PUP list to begin the regular season,
- 18:55Speaker 1: and missed the first four games or so. Yeah, but
- 18:58Speaker 1: we'll see. That was an encouraging site for this yowks
- 19:00Speaker 1: to see some press back Sharon. Four months. Yeah, that
- 19:04Speaker 1: was less than foremat, I mean.
- 19:06Speaker 2: And it usually takes what seven to eleven months?
- 19:09Speaker 1: Yeah, eight to twelve twelve.
- 19:12Speaker 4: That's really good stuff. Unlikely for week one, but I'll
- 19:15Speaker 4: tell you this, he's definitely trending up. Like my whole
- 19:17Speaker 4: take of him not playing until week four, I think
- 19:20Speaker 4: he could be getting good reps by week four.
- 19:22Speaker 2: If that's the case, we'll see it.
- 19:24Speaker 1: But you're right, Chris, it's not that when he comes
- 19:26Speaker 1: back he's gonna get the full load. They're going to
- 19:28Speaker 1: definitely be ramping him back up and and have to
- 19:31Speaker 1: gradually work him in. So what's up with jedaari In Price?
- 19:34Speaker 1: The first round pick? Well, in OTAs, he was the
- 19:36Speaker 1: definite number two running guy. George Hallani, the third year
- 19:40Speaker 1: pro from the undrafted former undrafted free agent from Boise
- 19:43Speaker 1: State returning back who they the coaches really were impressed
- 19:46Speaker 1: with him filling in for Charbonay in the playoffs last year.
- 19:50Speaker 1: He's been the number one back Heilane has and in OTAs,
- 19:55Speaker 1: Price was mostly working with through lock in the number
- 19:57Speaker 1: two offense. Yesterday, however, Price was getting entire series with
- 20:01Speaker 1: the ones in Sam Darnold and I hadn't seen that
- 20:04Speaker 1: in Ota, So there was a progress there for the rookie.
- 20:08Speaker 1: He was getting far more ones just to the start
- 20:11Speaker 1: of mini camp. Again, Chris, we've talked about this, but
- 20:14Speaker 1: it would be a shock if Price isn't the number
- 20:16Speaker 1: one running back September night. That's why you draft him
- 20:18Speaker 1: in the first round.
- 20:19Speaker 2: All right.
- 20:20Speaker 4: Yeah, so it's good to see that someone else is
- 20:22Speaker 4: stepping up, But again, this is a rookie coming in.
- 20:24Speaker 2: He's learning a bunch.
- 20:26Speaker 4: They're throwing everything at him right now, and I think
- 20:28Speaker 4: it'll be it'll be. It'll take some time for him
- 20:32Speaker 4: to understand and get rolling, and I think after that
- 20:34Speaker 4: first preseason game he should definitely be the starter. So
- 20:38Speaker 4: it's gonna be a challenge for Darian, but I think
- 20:41Speaker 4: by week one you will see him as the starter
- 20:44Speaker 4: and go from there. But that's good on Alani for
- 20:48Speaker 4: stepping up and showcasing his veteran leadership skills and that
- 20:52Speaker 4: could play a long way, right, That could allow him
- 20:54Speaker 4: to get more snaps this season, assuming that Charbonnet is
- 20:57Speaker 4: not available like week one, week two and that. So
- 21:00Speaker 4: other guys stepping up, that's great to see. But I
- 21:03Speaker 4: agree with you your first round pick. Yeah, they didn't draft
- 21:07Speaker 4: him in the first round to sit behind anybody. He's
- 21:09Speaker 4: going to be the star back unless they admit that
- 21:11Speaker 4: they missed out on a pick there, which would not
- 21:13Speaker 4: be good, but I don't see that being the issue.
- 21:15Speaker 1: They signed Emmanuel Wilson, twenty seven year old free agent
- 21:18Speaker 1: from Green Bay five hundred yard rushing back for the
- 21:20Speaker 1: Packers last year. He's been the third running back, running
- 21:23Speaker 1: mostly with Jalon Milroe in the third team offense. So far,
- 21:26Speaker 1: He's got a contract that's one point six million, but
- 21:29Speaker 1: only three hundred thousand of US guaranteed, so if he
- 21:31Speaker 1: doesn't fit, they could release him. Although you always need
- 21:34Speaker 1: running backs, they go through many of them. What else
- 21:37Speaker 1: I see? Jared Ivy Last year he was the outside
- 21:39Speaker 1: linebacker that they kept on the roster the entire season
- 21:42Speaker 1: as an undrafted rookie free agent. We fairly peculiar how
- 21:45Speaker 1: he never got a snap, yet he kept staying on
- 21:47Speaker 1: the active roster because he didn't want to release him
- 21:49Speaker 1: to the practice squad and have him have to clear
- 21:51Speaker 1: waivers for fear someone would pick him up. Well, Ivy
- 21:55Speaker 1: is now defensive end he was working with. He's six six,
- 21:58Speaker 1: he's about two hundred and seventy pounds, and they're using
- 22:01Speaker 1: him as a defensive and hand on the ground guy.
- 22:03Speaker 1: He's been drilling with the defensive ends. He's been drilling
- 22:06Speaker 1: with Leonard Williams and DeMarcus Lawrence on some hand on
- 22:10Speaker 1: the ground stuff and then scrimmaging. He is definitely a
- 22:13Speaker 1: defensive end, not his listed linebacker Josh Job, but was
- 22:15Speaker 1: starting corner opposite of Witherspoon. The third cornerback has been
- 22:19Speaker 1: neam I Pritchett. It looks like for now he's the
- 22:22Speaker 1: third in the rotation with the starters, just like Tarik
- 22:24Speaker 1: Woollen was last year. DeMarcus Lawrence has continued to be
- 22:28Speaker 1: a teacher out here. He was teaching Nick Emun Worry
- 22:32Speaker 1: on the nuances of past rush steps and lean and
- 22:35Speaker 1: balance in the past Rush and Emon Worry talked about
- 22:37Speaker 1: how what a great teacher that DeMarcus Lawrence in his
- 22:41Speaker 1: thirteenth year, thirty four years old, is just I mean,
- 22:45Speaker 1: Warry said quote, just how to win easy, not to
- 22:47Speaker 1: make it too complicated. A guy like him, he's been
- 22:49Speaker 1: doing it so long. Anything he says is like green,
- 22:51Speaker 1: good to go. I'm just soaking up as much game
- 22:54Speaker 1: as I can from him and learning from him. He's
- 22:56Speaker 1: just given me what he's got. Nick even worry about
- 22:59Speaker 1: DeMarcus Lawrence. The Bobby Hart the offensive tackle of the
- 23:03Speaker 1: veteran offensive tackle the Seahawks signed on Monday. He was
- 23:06Speaker 1: the number three right tackle I saw yesterday. Of course,
- 23:08Speaker 1: Abe Lucas is the starter and opposite of Charles Cross.
- 23:13Speaker 1: But Hart was the third team and I still didn't
- 23:16Speaker 1: see Josh Jones on the field. He was injured during OTAs,
- 23:20Speaker 1: apparently because he wasn't on the field end. He wasn't
- 23:22Speaker 1: on the field the veteran again yesterday, Elijah Royo, the
- 23:25Speaker 1: second year rookie tight end, didn't practice. I didn't see
- 23:28Speaker 1: Devin Eastern, the rookie seventh round pick, the nose tackle.
- 23:31Speaker 1: I didn't see him anywhere, not even watching Eric Soalbert
- 23:34Speaker 1: practiced after the veteran tight end missed OTAs. Aj Barner
- 23:38Speaker 1: was running straight line sprints the starting tight end with
- 23:40Speaker 1: a trainer on a side field. He had ankle surgery
- 23:44Speaker 1: and shoulder surgery during the offseason. That's everything I saw.
- 23:47Speaker 1: If you want to read about it, it's at the
- 23:48Speaker 1: News Tribune dot com. I'll have another story up today
- 23:51Speaker 1: from the second practice. Up next, we're going to talk
- 23:54Speaker 1: about Brandon Bussey for a second, the Hurricanes rookie goaltender
- 23:57Speaker 1: and accidental Stanley Cup star. He has parents in the
- 24:00Speaker 1: building in Las Vegas last night and he got emotional
- 24:02Speaker 1: talking on CBC after the game about it. Plus a
- 24:06Speaker 1: cool little fringe benefit for all those in this country
- 24:09Speaker 1: who are wondering about hosting the World Cup. Well, there's
- 24:11Speaker 1: a cool little fringe benefit online. If you're in social
- 24:14Speaker 1: media that I would point to you. You could check
- 24:16Speaker 1: out that's already starting up online. A phenomenon online before
- 24:20Speaker 1: the games get going on Thursday. All that's coming up
- 24:22Speaker 1: eleven o'clock. You're here from Jackson Smith and Jig But
- 24:24Speaker 1: from the Seahawks facility here in the Virginia Mason Athletics
- 24:28Speaker 1: Center in Renton on ninety three point three KJRFM. Welcome back,
- 24:40Speaker 1: Greg Belt Show with Christoph k Alive from the Virginia
- 24:42Speaker 1: Mason Athletics Center and renting day two of the Seahawks
- 24:45Speaker 1: three day mandatory minicamp. They get their Super Bowl rings tomorrow.
- 24:49Speaker 1: There's already a little bit of a buzz in the
- 24:50Speaker 1: building about that. There was a buzz yesterday about about
- 24:54Speaker 1: six black suburbans and GMCs and Cadillacs worked out front.
- 25:01Speaker 1: Looked like secret service were out here, valts and suits
- 25:05Speaker 1: and earpieces. A lot of self important looking people around
- 25:08Speaker 1: the building. Of course, rumors and we were all talking
- 25:11Speaker 1: about what who's is. Maybe it's a potential buyer, the
- 25:14Speaker 1: team that's the stage this team is in. Nothing new
- 25:17Speaker 1: to report other than multiple bidders are emerging reportedly that
- 25:22Speaker 1: would drive up the price. I still a lot of
- 25:26Speaker 1: a lot of large rumors, a lot of strong, strong
- 25:30Speaker 1: talk that there is a whale buyer, I mean a
- 25:33Speaker 1: whale with strong local ties to Seattle who's waiting in
- 25:37Speaker 1: the wings. And to make a late bit on the Seahawks, well,
- 25:41Speaker 1: I'm not quite ready to report the details on that
- 25:45Speaker 1: because I haven't flushed it out yet. But mini camp
- 25:49Speaker 1: practice today, Mandatory mini camp practice today coming up at
- 25:51Speaker 1: about an hour and a half here at the Virginia
- 25:54Speaker 1: Mason Athletics Center. Last night, Brandon Bussy and the Stanley
- 25:56Speaker 1: Cup on Brandon Bussy is an accidental star. He was.
- 25:59Speaker 1: He's the Hurricanes' rookie goaltender who was a backup to
- 26:03Speaker 1: Frederick Anderson the entire postseason. He had zero minutes. He
- 26:06Speaker 1: played as many minutes as you and I did in
- 26:09Speaker 1: the Stanley Cup playoffs until the last game, Game three
- 26:13Speaker 1: on Sunday night, when he came in when the Hurricanes
- 26:16Speaker 1: were down four to nothing in Game three against Vegas
- 26:19Speaker 1: and was standing on his head in the third period.
- 26:23Speaker 1: In the meantime, his teammates scored four goals in the
- 26:25Speaker 1: span of six minutes, three and thirty nine seconds get
- 26:27Speaker 1: back in the game. They tied, they went to overtime.
- 26:30Speaker 1: Then of course Bussy lost and won a puck carrimed
- 26:33Speaker 1: off the backboards and went off the back of his
- 26:35Speaker 1: skate and he never saw in an accidental goal that
- 26:37Speaker 1: cost him the game in overtime. Well, the Hurricanes started
- 26:40Speaker 1: Brandon Bussey last night. He became the first undrafted rookie
- 26:43Speaker 1: goaltender to ever start a Stanley Cup final, And on
- 26:47Speaker 1: CBC and Sportsnet, they kept showing that in the lower
- 26:49Speaker 1: Bowl in Vegas, in the arena, his mom and dad,
- 26:52Speaker 1: Brandon Bussey's mom and dad, twenty seven years old rookie
- 26:56Speaker 1: was there in the stands and it was really cool
- 26:59Speaker 1: to see their reaction. I mean, a g liife of
- 27:01Speaker 1: the goaltender's parents or it is nerve wracking to say
- 27:04Speaker 1: the least in hockey and and soccer. But when it
- 27:07Speaker 1: was finally over and Brandon Bussey got to win in Carolina,
- 27:10Speaker 1: even the series to two. Heading back to Carolina, they
- 27:13Speaker 1: showed Brandon Bussey's parents in the stands on the Sportsnet
- 27:17Speaker 1: CBC broadcast that I always watch here in Seattle, and
- 27:20Speaker 1: they were ecstatic. They were hugging and kissing and crying.
- 27:25Speaker 1: Kyle Bukoskis of Sports Net and CBC talked to Brandon
- 27:28Speaker 1: Bussy after the game outside the Hurricanes locker room last night.
- 27:32Speaker 3: Really neat to see both your parents, Robin, Lisa, your
- 27:34Speaker 3: fiance Mary here as well. There's some great reactions and
- 27:37Speaker 3: then as you can imagine, the crowd. So I just
- 27:38Speaker 3: wanted to not see this.
- 27:39Speaker 1: What do you think, Oh, that's that's pretty special.
- 27:43Speaker 2: So the other reason why I'm able to do what
- 27:45Speaker 2: I do right now.
- 27:46Speaker 1: Their sacrifice means everything and they're the best.
- 27:49Speaker 3: Just the fact that they're here watching this in person,
- 27:51Speaker 3: I mean, what does that mean to you?
- 27:52Speaker 1: Fine?
- 27:53Speaker 3: East Coast Vegas in one day or this morning is
- 27:56Speaker 3: a lot.
- 27:56Speaker 1: It means a lot. I can't believe the guys just
- 27:58Speaker 1: did that to me on TV. Yeah, it's special though.
- 28:01Speaker 1: That'll be a memory a half forever. Really cool off.
- 28:05Speaker 1: Kaya Picoska's the on ice intermission host and and postgame
- 28:10Speaker 1: hosts for Sportsnet cbced showing that clip and talking to
- 28:13Speaker 1: Brandon Bussy and presenting it the way he did. Bussy's
- 28:16Speaker 1: knees buckled. You couldn't see it there on the radio,
- 28:18Speaker 1: but his knees buckled when they showed that clip of
- 28:21Speaker 1: his mom and dad in the stands, and you can
- 28:23Speaker 1: hear in his voice how emotional he was. And it
- 28:26Speaker 1: was a really cool moment last night for Brandon Bussy
- 28:29Speaker 1: getting to win as a rookie, and now they're gonna
- 28:31Speaker 1: run with him. Now he won to two, it's his
- 28:34Speaker 1: cup to win. And then that was the best of three.
- 28:38Speaker 1: Now that the series is tied too too with Game
- 28:40Speaker 1: five in Carolina on Thursday night, right here on kJ
- 28:42Speaker 1: R at five o'clock. The other cool thing I wanted
- 28:45Speaker 1: to point out to all you you know, the World Cup.
- 28:47Speaker 1: It's coming here to Seattle on Monday. By the way,
- 28:50Speaker 1: I pic Conea. The weather report just told us it's
- 28:52Speaker 1: gonna be ninety two degrees here at a noon kickoff
- 28:56Speaker 1: for Belgium and Egypt at Lumenfield on Monday. I'll be
- 28:59Speaker 1: done at Jim He's on first right before kickoff of
- 29:01Speaker 1: the World Cup match here on ninety three point three KJR.
- 29:05Speaker 1: But a really cool online phenomenon is emerging of first
- 29:09Speaker 1: time visitors posting their videos of being in America for
- 29:12Speaker 1: the first time online. Especially there's this dude from Germany.
- 29:17Speaker 1: He's Freddy from Germany. Twitter acts is at Freddie fr
- 29:21Speaker 1: d d y La seven at Freddie La seven. It's
- 29:26Speaker 1: his first time in the US. He's been wowed by
- 29:30Speaker 1: the road trips he's traveling across the Southeast. Last night
- 29:34Speaker 1: he was at the Argentina Iceland Friendly World Cup tune
- 29:38Speaker 1: up match at Auburn University at Jordan Hare Stadium, the
- 29:41Speaker 1: college football stadium. There were eighty three thousand people there.
- 29:44Speaker 1: Chris he was blown away by the size of the stadium,
- 29:48Speaker 1: in the atmosphere at Auburn for Messi and Argentina being there.
- 29:53Speaker 1: Then he went to a BUCkies. If any of you
- 29:56Speaker 1: have been to the Southeast or to Texas, you know
- 29:59Speaker 1: what a Bucki's is is buc Ees with apostrophe Bucky
- 30:04Speaker 1: the Beaver is as mascots. It's this giant superstore that
- 30:07Speaker 1: doubles as a gas station. And Freddy from Germany went
- 30:11Speaker 1: to BUCkies for the first time. He couldn't believe it.
- 30:14Speaker 1: If you go to at Freddie La seven, look at
- 30:17Speaker 1: his reaction to going to BUCkies for the first time.
- 30:22Speaker 1: It's a phenomenon. They have a whole four. I got
- 30:25Speaker 1: beef section and chopped beef and chicken and merchandise. You
- 30:31Speaker 1: can buy Bucky merchandise, that's sweatpants. You can buy jewelry there.
- 30:36Speaker 1: BUCkies is a phenomenon. We don't know it here on
- 30:38Speaker 1: the West Coast, but I've been to a BUCkies. It's
- 30:41Speaker 1: like an amusement park for a gas station. Well, anyway,
- 30:44Speaker 1: it's funny to it's really cool. Actually, it gives you
- 30:46Speaker 1: a little bit of pride in our country that these people,
- 30:48Speaker 1: these visitors from Europe and other countries, are enjoying just
- 30:52Speaker 1: everyday life of America. These merely mundane details about we
- 30:56Speaker 1: take for granted in America. They're posting it online and
- 30:59Speaker 1: just make it a phenomenon on about it. You can
- 31:01Speaker 1: go to at Freddie fr d d y LA seven.
- 31:04Speaker 1: He had like fifty thousand followers at the start of
- 31:06Speaker 1: this week. Now he's got two hundred and fifty thousand
- 31:08Speaker 1: because people are catching word to his exploits and he
- 31:11Speaker 1: showed it. He showed him meeting BUCkies at one am
- 31:13Speaker 1: last night for his dinner after the Argentina match at Auburn.
- 31:18Speaker 1: Up next back here at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center
- 31:21Speaker 1: at Seahawks Mini Camp. You'll hear from Jackson Smith and
- 31:23Speaker 1: Jigba the reigning NFL Offensive Player of the Year, the
- 31:27Speaker 1: richest NFL wide receiver in history with one hundred and
- 31:30Speaker 1: sixty eight million dollar contract, why he got a new
- 31:34Speaker 1: Offensive Player of the Year trophy because his last one
- 31:36Speaker 1: had typos on it, and how life has changed since
- 31:39Speaker 1: he signed his big deal. We'll hear from Jackson Smith
- 31:42Speaker 1: and Jigbin next on ninety three point three KJRFM.
