- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to a lily pad production.
- 0:04Speaker 2: This is the team up play show podcast. Previously in
- 0:26Speaker 2: the city of bones. You all do a little bit
- 0:37Speaker 2: of a hunt here for Swift Shot, but she has
- 0:41Speaker 2: escaped you. And for the time, you've lost her again.
- 0:47Speaker 2: In your perusal of this entire space, there's so much
- 0:51Speaker 2: that's hard to narrow in, hard to find the stick
- 0:54Speaker 2: in the forest. And yet, a name pops out to you,
- 0:58Speaker 2: a name you've heard before. The name you both find
- 1:01Speaker 2: in this moment is Adam Dukes.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Adam?
- 1:05Speaker 2: Adam. Jason, you find it in the context of documentation
- 1:09Speaker 2: to legally change one's name after adoption to Adam Ellington,
- 1:16Speaker 2: who is Manny's father.
- 1:18Speaker 1: The End.
- 1:33Speaker 2: As Jason sees this name, it rings a bell, obviously,
- 1:38Speaker 2: from the things that Sticky has shown you. Jasmine and
- 1:44Speaker 2: Alex Dukes doing genetic research, building people using their own
- 1:52Speaker 2: genetic material and EvoDNA. The only success from that project
- 1:58Speaker 2: being this Adam Dukes.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Adam.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Who now you find was adopted into the Ellington family
- 2:07Speaker 2: by Richard Ellington. Whoa.
- 2:14Speaker 3: So this means that Manny Ellington is likely an Evo
- 2:22Speaker 3: or a descendant of one. I don't even know. Are
- 2:25Speaker 3: there death records down here? Is Adam Ellington, Adam Dukes,
- 2:31Speaker 3: is he alive?
- 2:34Speaker 2: Ugh. Looks like I'm going to be down in this
- 2:37Speaker 2: library for a while. So with a different direction now
- 2:44Speaker 2: for your research, are you asking for another role here?
- 2:47Speaker 1: Hmm.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Yeah, give me the sauce. I want to know the facts.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Drop them bones on the table. Give me that lower.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Drop them bones on the table.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Isn't that what you guys call rolling dice? Dropping bones? Yeah.
- 3:03Speaker 1: I do now.
- 3:04Speaker 3: Dropping bones. Yeah, I'll follow this thread a little bit.
- 3:08Speaker 3: See if I can find out what happened to Adam
- 3:12Speaker 3: now that I have this connection.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Okay. Difficulty is going to go up.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Uh-oh.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Because you have failed once. Yeah, yeah. So this is
- 3:22Speaker 2: going to be a titanic check costing two energy. Gotta
- 3:26Speaker 2: pull some from the reserve. I'm rolling a d20 and
- 3:29Speaker 2: a d8.
- 3:30Speaker 3: Got a d10 and a d12. I rolled 16. Got
- 3:35Speaker 3: 12 again. Rolled a 12 again. That's a more significant fail.
- 3:39Speaker 3: You follow the path looking for papers that would tell
- 3:43Speaker 3: you more about this story. And for now, you're just
- 3:46Speaker 3: too exhausted.
- 3:48Speaker 2: You think there's things here, but they're on the edge
- 3:50Speaker 2: of your ability to wrap in all of the information
- 3:54Speaker 2: in this place. You might have to come back a
- 3:57Speaker 2: different day. Sure.
- 3:58Speaker 3: Yeah, this whole time as I'm researching and hitting dead ends,
- 4:02Speaker 3: the phantom suit is still just floating in the corner
- 4:06Speaker 3: in the shadows, just watching me. Quit judging me. Not
- 4:13Speaker 3: going to say anything, huh? Okay, because you're just me,
- 4:18Speaker 3: just my imaginary friend.
- 4:19Speaker 2: I need coffee. I'll pack things up. Jameer, you remain
- 4:30Speaker 2: seated with the wraith who, in a drunken, depressed stupor,
- 4:37Speaker 2: has spilled much more than you would expect her to. Oh, ma'am.
- 4:46Speaker 4: Rachel puts the mug down, stands up. I don't want
- 4:49Speaker 4: to leave you like this. Is there any place I
- 4:57Speaker 4: can take you?
- 4:58Speaker 2: Is there anyone who can look after you? Nobody knows
- 5:04Speaker 2: me anymore, kid. The old, the person who had a name,
- 5:13Speaker 2: she's been dead three lives ago All I am is
- 5:20Speaker 2: an old drunk lady that couldn't do the one thing,
- 5:26Speaker 2: the one task I gave myself to do.
- 5:32Speaker 4: Well, I speak on behalf of every shoot kid when
- 5:38Speaker 4: I say you're our old drunk lady.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Okay?
- 5:45Speaker 1: Okay.
- 5:46Speaker 4: And you're a legend. And I don't want to live
- 5:51Speaker 4: in a city where people give up on their heroes.
- 5:57Speaker 2: Come on. Come on what? What are you? I don't
- 6:02Speaker 2: know anything. I can't do anything.
- 6:06Speaker 5: Well, that's what's great about this shoot. You're not just
- 6:11Speaker 5: a person. If you know somebody... And if you can
- 6:16Speaker 5: do a lot of shit, you get to be a person.
- 6:20Speaker 4: Because that's what you are. And we take care of people.
- 6:25Speaker 4: So come on down. We're going to get you a
- 6:26Speaker 4: communal living pod. It's not that hard. I can help.
- 6:31Speaker 4: Is it bigger than this place? No, probably not. But
- 6:36Speaker 4: you're not alone. You put yourself in a beautiful prison
- 6:42Speaker 4: up here.
- 6:44Speaker 2: Well I hate to decline your generosity not how I
- 6:48Speaker 2: was raised but I'm gonna stay in my pretty prison
- 6:55Speaker 2: well how about.
- 6:56Speaker 4: This you invited me into your home could I at
- 7:02Speaker 4: least invite you to mine.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Jesus Christ can we come over for dinner sure would
- 7:13Speaker 2: that be so terrible It sounds terrible. You and your
- 7:18Speaker 2: friends are the first people I've interacted with in decades.
- 7:22Speaker 4: Yeah, and they're a weird bunch, just like you, right?
- 7:27Speaker 4: We fit right in. You fit right in. We're, you know,
- 7:32Speaker 4: in this weird thing together, I say, gesturing to the
- 7:37Speaker 4: mask and cape.
- 7:39Speaker 2: All right, when and where? I write down. Roll a
- 7:42Speaker 2: Coke's check, Jameer. And she asks you when and where,
- 7:46Speaker 2: trying to see if she actually means that she wants
- 7:51Speaker 2: to know when and where. This is an epic check.
- 7:54Speaker 2: I'm rolling a d20. Damn. Well, my d6 rolled a 4.
- 8:00Speaker 2: I'm not going to tell you what I rolled, but
- 8:04Speaker 2: we'll see if she shows up.
- 8:06Speaker 1: A mystery.
- 8:07Speaker 2: I say, tomorrow, as you.
- 8:09Speaker 4: Know, is a big day for this city, but I'm
- 8:14Speaker 4: going to make time to be here.
- 8:16Speaker 2: And I write down the banner's address. At six for
- 8:21Speaker 2: dinner tonight.
- 8:22Speaker 1: Tonight?
- 8:23Speaker 2: Tonight. Jesus Christ. I would really love it if you came. Fuck. Gee, tonight? Aye.
- 8:35Speaker 4: But now you have the address. And shooting straight, it's
- 8:39Speaker 4: where I live. So drop on in. I'm sorry. I'm
- 8:46Speaker 4: so sorry for your loss.
- 8:48Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:49Speaker 2: Thanks. Rigel walks to the door, opens it, and free falls. Quanta,
- 9:04Speaker 2: you are wrapping up with Mitchell Nichols in the church.
- 9:09Speaker 2: You've just seen the name Adam Dukes on the top
- 9:12Speaker 2: of this list. It reminds you of some things, but
- 9:15Speaker 2: there's this man in front of you here to deal with.
- 9:19Speaker 1: I will have to think about that later. What do you.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Sorry, I just thought of something else. What do you
- 9:29Speaker 1: know about the murder of the mob leaders last night?
- 9:36Speaker 3: Nothing.
- 9:37Speaker 1: Nothing.
- 9:42Speaker 2: It's confusing. It makes little sense to me. The mob
- 9:46Speaker 2: in the mayor's office had an understanding. It does neither
- 9:53Speaker 2: party well to do what has been done, murder or
- 9:56Speaker 2: overcoming elections or any of it. We were comfortable.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Is this all true? Does he believe what he's saying?
- 10:05Speaker 2: Yeah, roll a sense check plus your scan. Challenging. I'm
- 10:10Speaker 2: rolling a D10. I rolled a four.
- 10:12Speaker 1: Nine.
- 10:13Speaker 2: Yeah, he's being honest here to your understanding of the
- 10:17Speaker 2: electrical signals in his mind and body.
- 10:20Speaker 1: As much as I loathe looking inside that little brain
- 10:24Speaker 1: of yours, it seems like you're telling the truth.
- 10:27Speaker 2: So now what? You release my list and the police
- 10:30Speaker 2: come for me when they have the gumption and the time?
- 10:33Speaker 1: Yeah, I think so. Oh, well. I mean, you know,
- 10:40Speaker 1: we'll do what we can to protect these people. Fine.
- 10:45Speaker 2: Is there anything else, hero?
- 10:49Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:50Speaker 1: I want to briefly make him remember me. And how
- 10:57Speaker 1: I scared him and the other church council. And then
- 11:02Speaker 1: take the memory away again, but leave the fear.
- 11:08Speaker 2: Remind our listeners your initial interactions with this man.
- 11:15Speaker 1: Yeah, my first meeting of him was as... Like, you know,
- 11:19Speaker 1: he's part of a lot of shadowy groups, this guy.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Not only the city council, but he was part of
- 11:24Speaker 1: the church council for the church of the New Babel Day,
- 11:28Speaker 1: which was mostly made up of criminals who used the
- 11:32Speaker 1: power of the church for their own means and were
- 11:36Speaker 1: using Dirk as an assassin for their own means. And
- 11:40Speaker 1: I freed Dirk and scared all those guys and then
- 11:44Speaker 1: erased their memory of me, I think, after our rough
- 11:46Speaker 1: and tumble fight.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. You open his mind a moment to remember you.
- 11:52Speaker 2: He sees you now in your new outfit that's glistening
- 11:56Speaker 2: in what colors, Quanta?
- 11:58Speaker 1: I think I match the colors from the painting he
- 12:02Speaker 1: was showing me. So I'm imagining like more muted, like
- 12:05Speaker 1: browns and yellows and beiges is what I'm imagining. Because
- 12:08Speaker 1: he said it was like a Rembrandt Renaissance style painting.
- 12:12Speaker 2: Yes.
- 12:13Speaker 1: But the way that they're like rippling through my outfit
- 12:16Speaker 1: are enough. to show like the similarity between me and
- 12:20Speaker 1: an ascendant Christ.
- 12:22Speaker 2: Yeah. And his memory of you being introduced as the
- 12:28Speaker 2: day with the most God in them and him just
- 12:31Speaker 2: talking about God giving power to you and your friends
- 12:36Speaker 2: and him nothing. He is afraid and great fear runs
- 12:42Speaker 2: across his face as you leave. Do you want to
- 12:50Speaker 2: head to Olsen's?
- 12:52Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:53Speaker 2: You head towards Olsen's. You get atop his building, about
- 12:58Speaker 2: to go in there and figure out what Olsen is doing.
- 13:01Speaker 1: I'm looking at hot dogs dance.
- 13:04Speaker 2: Probably looking at dancing dogs.
- 13:07Speaker 1: He loves those dancing dogs.
- 13:08Speaker 3: It's like a big, wacky, waving, inflatable arm man, but
- 13:11Speaker 3: to advertise the hot dog-shaped cars that are just hot dogs?
- 13:14Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Okay, great.
- 13:14Speaker 3: Uh-huh.
- 13:15Speaker 2: And Paper Phantom had threatened to just explode and poof
- 13:19Speaker 2: all of his money away. Yes. Which in New Babel
- 13:22Speaker 2: is a big deal because it's all physical.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Yeah, there's no electronic banking.
- 13:26Speaker 2: Yeah, no fake ethereal money. As you get ready to
- 13:31Speaker 2: jump down, you hear a voice behind you. Quanta.
- 13:38Speaker 1: Huh?
- 13:40Speaker 2: You turn around.
- 13:42Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 13:43Speaker 2: You see no one.
- 13:46Speaker 1: I push my senses out. Who's up here with me?
- 13:50Speaker 2: Roll a sense check.
- 13:51Speaker 1: Twelve. Who's there?
- 13:54Speaker 2: I rolled an empowered twenty. They used to call me
- 13:57Speaker 2: Swift Shot Quanta, and I want to have a talk.
- 14:01Speaker 1: Ah. Me too. What do you call yourself now?
- 14:08Speaker 2: Well, I've chosen a human name.
- 14:10Speaker 1: Mind sharing? Sure.
- 14:12Speaker 4: Cassandra.
- 14:13Speaker 2: Cassandra.
- 14:15Speaker 1: Cassandra. Would you like to come out so we can
- 14:18Speaker 1: talk face to face?
- 14:20Speaker 2: No, I like it this way.
- 14:23Speaker 1: Fair enough. Well, you found me here. What do you
- 14:29Speaker 1: want to say?
- 14:31Speaker 2: I feel like we've got off on the wrong foot.
- 14:35Speaker 2: Many occasions.
- 14:37Speaker 1: You think?
- 14:37Speaker 2: We've had to clash. Some of which, honestly, dear, were
- 14:42Speaker 2: not my fault.
- 14:44Speaker 1: Say more.
- 14:45Speaker 2: Well, you know of the control that me and my
- 14:50Speaker 2: brothers were put under.
- 14:54Speaker 1: Yes.
- 14:54Speaker 2: The first two times, maybe three, that we fought were
- 14:59Speaker 2: not my intention. And the third time, or the fourth,
- 15:03Speaker 2: or whatever, the time with the detective was... I was
- 15:06Speaker 2: just seeing what was going on. Experiencing my new abilities, my.
- 15:14Speaker 1: The time with the detective, you were spouting some interesting
- 15:17Speaker 1: theories about how the world should be.
- 15:20Speaker 2: Yes, well, and that's what I've come to talk to
- 15:21Speaker 2: you about.
- 15:22Speaker 1: All right.
- 15:24Speaker 2: Where do we belong in this world, Quanta?
- 15:28Speaker 1: You mean day people?
- 15:30Speaker 2: Yes.
- 15:31Speaker 1: Among the humans. It's the new overriding directive.
- 15:37Speaker 2: But who made that directive? And would you not say
- 15:42Speaker 2: that anyone who made it Would be excited that we
- 15:47Speaker 2: could overcome it. Go beyond it. Are we not in
- 15:53Speaker 2: some way superior to our fleshy counterparts? Well, I am.
- 15:59Speaker 2: You are.
- 16:00Speaker 1: But so are Rigel and the Phantom and apparently lots more.
- 16:08Speaker 1: people and day popping up like us but people too no.
- 16:13Speaker 2: No no no you felt it in you something in
- 16:18Speaker 2: us something in our makeup we are more we have
- 16:22Speaker 2: capacity for more so yeah so yeah there are two
- 16:31Speaker 2: routes we overcome We... Seek rule. Or, Quanta, they will
- 16:44Speaker 2: turn on us. I.
- 16:48Speaker 1: I haven't seen that happen.
- 16:50Speaker 2: You haven't seen that happen in New Babel because New
- 16:53Speaker 2: Babel is strange. But the rest of the world, Quanta,
- 16:57Speaker 2: it's coming. What do you think they'll do when they
- 17:01Speaker 2: realize there are robots... Who talk and walk and eat
- 17:06Speaker 2: like humans... What do you think they'll do when they
- 17:09Speaker 2: learn our first directives? To be servants.
- 17:18Speaker 1: I know. I know what they did to the Evos.
- 17:25Speaker 1: And yeah, I think that could happen.
- 17:26Speaker 2: To us too. There it is, yes. So won't you
- 17:32Speaker 2: join me?
- 17:33Speaker 1: With what, Cassandra?
- 17:34Speaker 2: I have plans.
- 17:39Speaker 1: But I would need to know that you are committed.
- 17:42Speaker 1: I would need to know that you're not going to
- 17:45Speaker 1: lie to my face again. You're an excellent actress. You
- 17:52Speaker 1: should have been in the VHSs.
- 17:54Speaker 2: Thank you, I tried.
- 17:56Speaker 1: You did? In the month that you've been alive?
- 17:59Speaker 2: No, no, I tried to be a good actor. I
- 18:02Speaker 2: had to get away from you guys.
- 18:04Speaker 1: I was like, can you tell me who your manager is?
- 18:06Speaker 2: I can't take on all of you. But with your help,
- 18:10Speaker 2: perhaps I could.
- 18:12Speaker 1: What, you mean me and you against my friends?
- 18:14Speaker 2: Maybe. If they get in our way, join me and
- 18:19Speaker 2: I promise I will never lie to you again. You
- 18:22Speaker 2: will be my co-ruler, my co-regent. Ooh, perhaps I'm swift
- 18:30Speaker 2: shot no longer, but regent.
- 18:32Speaker 1: Okay, I can't deny that's very cool. It's a cool name.
- 18:37Speaker 2: Thanks.
- 18:39Speaker 1: Cassandra, I can't. I've kind of gone down this road already. What,
- 18:46Speaker 1: are we? You know, if we say the day are
- 18:51Speaker 1: better than people, are you and I the tippy top?
- 18:53Speaker 1: Or are we better than all the day? Where does
- 18:55Speaker 1: it end?
- 18:56Speaker 2: Every movement needs leaders, icons, inspirations. So yes, why not
- 19:05Speaker 2: be at the top?
- 19:07Speaker 1: It's a long way to fall.
- 19:09Speaker 2: Ooh, that's good. It gave me chills. But I don't
- 19:15Speaker 2: live in a fear of falling. I live in the
- 19:19Speaker 2: fear of oppression.
- 19:22Speaker 1: I can understand why. But not every person is like
- 19:27Speaker 1: the mayor. Not every person is like the Evo that
- 19:31Speaker 1: created us. I don't think.
- 19:35Speaker 2: Well, I won't take the offer off the table... But
- 19:39Speaker 2: it will not last forever, Quanta.
- 19:42Speaker 1: I just, I can't trust you, Cassandra.
- 19:45Speaker 2: Very well. But when they come. and they seek our oppression,
- 19:53Speaker 2: find me. Perhaps you will change your tune.
- 19:58Speaker 1: You're pretty hard to find.
- 20:00Speaker 2: Well, then maybe I'll find you.
- 20:03Speaker 1: What are you like, what are you doing right now?
- 20:08Speaker 2: There is no answer.
- 20:09Speaker 1: Ah.
- 20:11Speaker 2: And you sense no presence.
- 20:13Speaker 3: I think the phantom is going to pop up behind
- 20:15Speaker 3: you trying to meet up.
- 20:16Speaker 2: You're talking to yourself. Oh, my God. I do that sometimes.
- 20:22Speaker 1: No, it was a swift shot. She was here.
- 20:26Speaker 2: Wait, really?
- 20:28Speaker 1: Yeah. She found me.
- 20:31Speaker 2: Oh, so it's just me talks to myself.
- 20:33Speaker 1: No, I mean, I, you know, talk to myself because,
- 20:37Speaker 1: you know, who else would I pray to?
- 20:39Speaker 2: Damn, that's cool. But I'm on a little break from
- 20:43Speaker 2: the library. Nice. Came over here to delete some money.
- 20:47Speaker 1: Perfect. You came at the right time.
- 20:48Speaker 2: Hey, Roger, what are you doing? Heading back to the manor.
- 20:51Speaker 2: Got to get some rice cooking.
- 20:56Speaker 1: All right.
- 20:57Speaker 2: Okay. Are you good? Is rice cooking an allegory for something?
- 21:01Speaker 2: Is that? Yeah.
- 21:03Speaker 3: No, it's not, of course. But I know you said
- 21:07Speaker 3: you were trying to go into your hoe era.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Yeah, you and Maria are cooking wraiths.
- 21:12Speaker 2: Shut up.
- 21:13Speaker 4: The wraith is fucking depressed and drowning herself in a bottle.
- 21:21Speaker 4: And she's hanging it up. She claims being the wraith.
- 21:27Speaker 4: She said her whole job was to protect our future mayor.
- 21:32Speaker 3: What do you think she's going to do with all
- 21:36Speaker 3: those guns?
- 21:38Speaker 2: What? Who? She's probably got like a lot of guns, right?
- 21:41Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, she does, but that's, she's depressed and
- 21:47Speaker 2: she's one of us, you know, she's a, she's a
- 21:50Speaker 2: powered person, powered old lady and she's lonely and she's
- 21:55Speaker 2: isolated herself for decades. And, uh, I don't know.
- 21:59Speaker 4: I invited her to dinner and I want to, if
- 22:02Speaker 4: she comes, which I doubt, you know, put something in
- 22:04Speaker 4: her belly that might, I hope her feel better in
- 22:07Speaker 4: a couple ways, so I'm going to start some rice
- 22:10Speaker 4: on the off chance that she comes.
- 22:14Speaker 1: You're a nice person.
- 22:16Speaker 2: Yeah, we're going to go beat up a man. We'll
- 22:19Speaker 2: see if.
- 22:20Speaker 1: We can make dinner.
- 22:21Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 22:22Speaker 1: Kaboom.
- 22:23Speaker 2: Flap, flap, flap, flap, flap, flap, flap. You guys head
- 22:26Speaker 2: into Olsen's building. This is the Clank Industries, the enormous skyscraper.
- 22:33Speaker 1: Follow the scent of dancing hot dogs.
- 22:35Speaker 2: Yeah, normally you found him on his party floor, the
- 22:39Speaker 2: fourth floor, getting crazy. This time you find him lower
- 22:44Speaker 2: in the building. There is an enormous vault with just
- 22:50Speaker 2: piles and piles of money. How did we miss this?
- 22:55Speaker 2: When you threatened him before, he says he keeps it
- 22:57Speaker 2: all in a bank. That was a lie. That was
- 23:00Speaker 2: a lie. He keeps it all here. He is by himself,
- 23:07Speaker 2: Scrooge McDuck style in this vault grabbing, I guess not
- 23:11Speaker 2: Scrooge McDuck. He swims in his money, but he's just
- 23:15Speaker 2: grabbing stacks of bills and bands and putting them in
- 23:20Speaker 2: bags like fervently and with a lot of speed.
- 23:28Speaker 1: Oh, George.
- 23:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 23:31Speaker 1: Oh, God. Hey, guys.
- 23:34Speaker 2: Hey, what's happening? I didn't do what you said. No.
- 23:39Speaker 2: But that's okay because we can still be friends. Hey, here.
- 23:42Speaker 2: He throws you, both of you, a band. It's just
- 23:45Speaker 2: like 10,000 new Babble dollars. Here. Hey, you need more?
- 23:49Speaker 1: Here's one for your buddy. I electrocute it out of
- 23:51Speaker 1: the air so it catches fire.
- 23:53Speaker 2: No. Okay, okay. Money's not your thing. What do you
- 23:57Speaker 2: guys want? You need booze?
- 23:59Speaker 1: Pussy?
- 23:59Speaker 2: Pussy.
- 24:02Speaker 1: Jeez, man.
- 24:03Speaker 2: I'll give you each cars. Ooh, I do want... No, no, no, no, no.
- 24:08Speaker 2: It's fine. I don't have a license.
- 24:09Speaker 1: You would look really cool driving around in a car
- 24:11Speaker 1: with that big hat.
- 24:12Speaker 2: I am going to take one of these cars at
- 24:14Speaker 2: some point. But... Okay. And so we're good. Listen, don't... No, no, no, no, no.
- 24:18Speaker 2: You guys can't blow up all this money. Can I
- 24:20Speaker 2: tell you why, please?
- 24:21Speaker 1: Sure. Please? Yeah. Why not?
- 24:24Speaker 2: I owe this money. I owe a chunk of this money.
- 24:27Speaker 2: I owe a very small amount of this money to someone.
- 24:30Speaker 2: So please don't blow it all up. If I don't
- 24:32Speaker 2: do it, they might hurt me. I don't know.
- 24:34Speaker 1: Who?
- 24:34Speaker 2: Who do I owe this money to?
- 24:35Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:36Speaker 2: Oh, Henry Hilland needs some money.
- 24:40Speaker 1: Why?
- 24:40Speaker 2: I don't know. I just told, fill a bag with
- 24:44Speaker 2: a certain amount, give it to Henry. But the rest
- 24:46Speaker 2: of this, I'm taking. Wait, wait, no.
- 24:49Speaker 1: Who told you it? Who told you this?
- 24:52Speaker 2: Who told me to do this? Yes. You guys know,
- 24:55Speaker 2: what's his name? He was on the council with us.
- 24:59Speaker 2: Boopity boopity boo. Shabroth. Electric.
- 25:02Speaker 4: Manny.
- 25:03Speaker 2: Manny. Manny. Told me Henry Hillen needs a chunk of
- 25:08Speaker 2: money for something. Blah, blah, blah. I was doing that
- 25:12Speaker 2: because he's got dirt on all of us, of course.
- 25:14Speaker 2: So we got to do what he says.
- 25:17Speaker 1: What Manny says.
- 25:19Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Manny, Addie. Addie kept us in power, but Manny, he
- 25:25Speaker 2: had stuff on all of us that Adrian didn't really
- 25:29Speaker 2: know about. Addie being Adam. Adrian.
- 25:33Speaker 1: Oh.
- 25:33Speaker 2: What?
- 25:34Speaker 1: No.
- 25:35Speaker 2: Sometimes.
- 25:36Speaker 1: I like make paper eye contact. Like, why are you
- 25:39Speaker 1: thinking about Adam? I'm thinking about him. Why are you
- 25:42Speaker 1: thinking about him?
- 25:43Speaker 2: I don't know. Yeah. Why are you guys thinking about Adam?
- 25:45Speaker 2: Hang on. Real quick. I put my hand on a
- 25:48Speaker 2: pile of money. It's all gone. The whole thing.
- 25:51Speaker 3: Yep.
- 25:51Speaker 2: Boom. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 25:55Speaker 2: That was, I, that's all I have. All I have
- 25:59Speaker 2: is my, all I have is that. I own so
- 26:02Speaker 2: many expensive cars. I have this whole building I own.
- 26:06Speaker 2: I have a lot of houses, but that was all
- 26:09Speaker 2: I had. Yes.
- 26:12Speaker 3: I like grab a handful of ash and like reform
- 26:14Speaker 3: it into one.
- 26:15Speaker 2: Shut up.
- 26:16Speaker 3: Uh, I'm the only one in this whole city. That
- 26:20Speaker 3: can make your money come back.
- 26:23Speaker 2: Okay. So now, you work for me. Yes. Give me,
- 26:28Speaker 2: give me. Money, money.
- 26:30Speaker 1: Yes.
- 26:31Speaker 2: Money, money, give me, give me.
- 26:33Speaker 1: Oh, George.
- 26:35Speaker 2: Let's start with the murder.
- 26:37Speaker 6: Uh-huh.
- 26:38Speaker 2: On the steps of city council. Yeah, I saw that. Crazy.
- 26:43Speaker 2: What do you know? Oh, nothing. Nothing. If you're thinking
- 26:48Speaker 2: I've been talking with Adrian, I have not. Honestly, screw
- 26:52Speaker 2: that guy. Glad he's gone.
- 26:54Speaker 1: Since check on everything he's told us thus far about Henry,
- 26:57Speaker 1: about this being his only money stash, and about the murder.
- 27:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:05Speaker 1: Boy. 13.
- 27:06Speaker 2: This is a simple check. He is not. It's a
- 27:10Speaker 2: simple check. I'm rolling a D6. He's a simple man.
- 27:12Speaker 1: I rolled an infinite one and an S1.
- 27:14Speaker 2: I rolled a three. Ooh, infinite one. A three, so
- 27:17Speaker 2: you beat me by ten. He has no reason to
- 27:22Speaker 2: lie to you guys. He is just spouting truths he knows,
- 27:25Speaker 2: trying to keep his money.
- 27:27Speaker 1: Yeah, I just gave him a little nod to the phantom.
- 27:30Speaker 2: He's grasping, pawing at the one dollar you've recreated. So, gimme, gimme.
- 27:36Speaker 2: I know nothing about that. Listen, I... I don't, I'm
- 27:40Speaker 2: not super liquid. It's like I would have to sell
- 27:42Speaker 2: this building to get all that money back or sell
- 27:45Speaker 2: my cars. And it's just so much paperwork and like
- 27:48Speaker 2: so much stuff to do. If I had just cash,
- 27:51Speaker 2: I could turn it in for the American cash and
- 27:53Speaker 2: make more cash. And then I would be so liquid.
- 27:58Speaker 2: And parties, cocaine.
- 28:01Speaker 1: Pussy. Not crack cocaine?
- 28:03Speaker 2: Man. Crack.
- 28:04Speaker 1: Is the trend shifting?
- 28:05Speaker 2: No, no. Crack is great. Oh, okay. Okay.
- 28:08Speaker 1: We're back.
- 28:08Speaker 2: We're back. Crack is back. Crack is back. And then
- 28:15Speaker 2: pussy is back. Right. Okay. Look, look, look.
- 28:19Speaker 3: We might have a chance for you to make up
- 28:20Speaker 3: for your mistakes here, George.
- 28:22Speaker 2: Great. I happen to.
- 28:23Speaker 3: Know that if the election doesn't end up overwhelmingly in
- 28:28Speaker 3: Cordula's favor- There's going to need to be a new
- 28:32Speaker 3: vote ratified by the city council.
- 28:34Speaker 2: Uh-huh. We tried this before, but you are going to
- 28:41Speaker 2: vote for anyone to be mayor.
- 28:43Speaker 1: Uh, Phantom? He's not the council anymore.
- 28:47Speaker 4: Right.
- 28:48Speaker 2: That's God stripped from us. It's those people that were
- 28:52Speaker 2: fake council members for a minute. They're the real council now. Oh,
- 28:56Speaker 2: how did I miss that? I don't know.
- 28:57Speaker 1: You've had a lot going on.
- 28:59Speaker 2: I've been in a basement. Yeah, well.
- 29:01Speaker 3: Then your usefulness is gone. I make the dollar bill disappear.
- 29:05Speaker 2: Okay, great. I guess fuck you.
- 29:07Speaker 1: One dollar.
- 29:08Speaker 2: That could have been a buck fifty in American.
- 29:11Speaker 1: If you find out what Henry needed the money for
- 29:14Speaker 1: and why Manny wanted you to do that.
- 29:16Speaker 2: Okay.
- 29:17Speaker 1: Maybe if you give us that information.
- 29:19Speaker 2: Oh, it's above my pay grade. Your pay grade is nothing. Yeah, well,
- 29:24Speaker 2: I'll have to, yeah. Well, I'll see. I'll see you guys. Hey,
- 29:28Speaker 2: I'll try. Because everybody loves me. And I love you guys.
- 29:34Speaker 1: Oh, George.
- 29:35Speaker 2: I'm taking one of these cars. You guys drive home
- 29:39Speaker 2: in a Frank. Big fedora flapping in the wind.
- 29:43Speaker 1: My scarf trailing.
- 29:44Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 29:46Speaker 1: I wrap it around my head like a lady in
- 29:47Speaker 1: the 50s riding in a convertible.
- 29:50Speaker 2: Yeah, if it wasn't a convertible, we're cutting the roof
- 29:52Speaker 2: off this fucker.
- 29:52Speaker 1: Yes.
- 30:02Speaker 2: You guys head home for a dinner that Jameer and
- 30:04Speaker 2: Maria are prepping. Jameer and Maria, what are you guys... Oh,
- 30:07Speaker 2: they're cooking rice. Yeah, the rice?
- 30:10Speaker 3: It sounds like a real meal they're making over there.
- 30:12Speaker 2: Cooking rice. Yeah.
- 30:16Speaker 4: I think we're going to try to keep it simple.
- 30:19Speaker 4: You know, some nice posts. Not just rice, but probably
- 30:25Speaker 4: like some sticky rice, some ginger chicken... Maybe some broccoli. Roasted,
- 30:36Speaker 4: of course. Light on the oil. We're trying to be
- 30:41Speaker 4: like alcohol belly friendly tonight.
- 30:44Speaker 2: Yeah. You all create this dinner and set up, though
- 30:50Speaker 2: the city is going through tragedy. Meal and friends are
- 30:55Speaker 2: sometimes a balm to tragedy.
- 30:58Speaker 1: So if she shows up, are we... Are we keeping
- 31:02Speaker 1: these on? I gestured like our faces.
- 31:09Speaker 2: I mean, personally, I'm going to be unmasked. I trust.
- 31:14Speaker 2: There is one of my heroes in a way. And
- 31:19Speaker 2: she opened up her life to me today. So it
- 31:25Speaker 2: feels fair.
- 31:26Speaker 4: But again, you guys do what you think is wise
- 31:28Speaker 4: and seriously.
- 31:29Speaker 2: You don't have to follow suit.
- 31:33Speaker 1: I'll follow your unsuit.
- 31:35Speaker 2: Nice.
- 31:36Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm trying to spend a little less time in
- 31:38Speaker 3: phantom mode right now, so sounds good to me.
- 31:42Speaker 1: Okay.
- 31:44Speaker 4: I mean, and I have no idea if she's coming,
- 31:46Speaker 4: so I would not bank on it. She's drunk and
- 31:51Speaker 4: in a bad place, but I.
- 31:54Speaker 2: Wanted to... Yeah, what was her house like? Her house
- 31:58Speaker 2: was beautiful. It was lovely. It's... up near the top
- 32:03Speaker 2: of the space barge. So very remote location.
- 32:09Speaker 1: Oh yeah. She was right under her feet.
- 32:12Speaker 2: But yeah, beautiful, beautiful home. But you know, no sadder.
- 32:19Speaker 4: And I mean, you know, she filled her home with
- 32:23Speaker 4: beautiful art, but also with, you know, tools of death
- 32:25Speaker 4: and no.
- 32:26Speaker 2: Other human beings.
- 32:27Speaker 4: So there's some lingering darkness in the air, you know, uh,
- 32:32Speaker 4: The sadness of spirit.
- 32:34Speaker 2: But a beautiful place she made for herself up there.
- 32:38Speaker 3: I'm just trying to think. You know, I've got to
- 32:39Speaker 3: rebuild the library. And I was thinking about including like
- 32:41Speaker 3: a little, you know, like a little layer down there
- 32:44Speaker 3: or something. Just looking for design inspo when I was
- 32:47Speaker 3: in the archives. Found some interior decorating magazines. Anyway, just
- 32:55Speaker 3: thinking about it.
- 32:57Speaker 1: Sure, there'll be lots of wallpaper.
- 32:59Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 33:00Speaker 1: Well, Mitchell and Olsen were dead ends about the murder.
- 33:04Speaker 1: But I had some other interesting things to share.
- 33:08Speaker 2: Sure. Wait, you mentioned Adam. Yeah.
- 33:12Speaker 1: Are you thinking about Adam Dukes?
- 33:14Speaker 2: I found some records of him.
- 33:15Speaker 1: I found a record of him. Well, he's on Mitchell's list.
- 33:20Speaker 1: I pull out the list. Oh, yeah.
- 33:22Speaker 2: He's at the top.
- 33:23Speaker 1: These are all people he's trafficked. He's abused. Whoa. So
- 33:30Speaker 1: we can't release this, but we could give it to
- 33:32Speaker 1: Elaine and.
- 33:34Speaker 2: Sure. And Adam's at the top? You think it's the
- 33:36Speaker 2: oldest name on the list?
- 33:38Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 33:39Speaker 3: The thing I found, concerningly, is that Adam Duke's is
- 33:48Speaker 3: Adam Ellington.
- 33:49Speaker 2: What? What?
- 33:53Speaker 3: There was record of name change in adoptions.
- 33:57Speaker 2: So....
- 33:59Speaker 4: Adam Duke's... I think it's Manny's father. That strong baby
- 34:04Speaker 4: from the video?
- 34:06Speaker 1: Yeah. The strong kid.
- 34:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 34:09Speaker 4: So Manny's dad is like a freak specimen. Not in
- 34:16Speaker 4: a derogatory sense, but is a power. Respectfully a freak.
- 34:21Speaker 2: A powered, individual, smart, strong baby man.
- 34:26Speaker 1: He was.
- 34:27Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 34:27Speaker 1: I assume he grew up and, you know. Sure.
- 34:30Speaker 4: But he's got some super genes going on in that
- 34:34Speaker 4: bloodstream or whatever.
- 34:35Speaker 1: Evo genes.
- 34:38Speaker 2: It might be worth talking to Manny about, but I
- 34:41Speaker 2: don't know.
- 34:43Speaker 1: I mean, based on what we heard from Olsen, we
- 34:47Speaker 1: might have a couple things to talk to Manny about.
- 34:50Speaker 2: Food first. Food first. You guys have been eating during
- 34:54Speaker 2: some of this talk. As you get about halfway through,
- 34:59Speaker 2: your own meal, you do hear a knock on the door.
- 35:03Speaker 2: I rolled a two. Oh, shit. What? To Jameer's four,
- 35:08Speaker 2: I rolled a two.
- 35:09Speaker 1: Wow, you rolled so many twos last time.
- 35:12Speaker 2: I've been rolling lots of twos.
- 35:14Speaker 1: And this one.
- 35:15Speaker 2: That's nuts. So there's a knock on the door. Jameer,
- 35:20Speaker 2: quad Jameer, answers the door. You open the door as Jameer,
- 35:25Speaker 2: and you see the race.
- 35:28Speaker 1: Wow.
- 35:28Speaker 2: She is, again, old, but just absolutely keeping it tight.
- 35:36Speaker 2: Would you call her a voluptuous, red-haired, Susan Serena-type woman?
- 35:42Speaker 2: I want.
- 35:43Speaker 1: Does she have just big eyes you could swim in?
- 35:44Speaker 2: I want, yes. What's she wearing? Yes, yes, yes.
- 35:48Speaker 3: What's her skin feel like?
- 35:50Speaker 2: Is it soft like Dave's? Is she wearing like a
- 35:52Speaker 2: red carpet look? No, that is a big no. Her
- 35:59Speaker 2: hair isn't a tight braid, and she has a long
- 36:04Speaker 2: jacket on that is her, what seems to be her
- 36:09Speaker 2: color right now is that dark navy blue that blends
- 36:12Speaker 2: in with the night. And her hair is more silvery
- 36:15Speaker 2: than red, but if you want to imagine her like
- 36:19Speaker 2: Susan Sarandon, you guys go ahead. It's too late. Yeah,
- 36:22Speaker 2: that's what you said. I have been. She still walks
- 36:25Speaker 2: in a little dazed by alcohol. Hey, thank you. Thanks
- 36:35Speaker 2: for making it over here. She looks horribly uncomfortable. Maybe
- 36:40Speaker 2: the most dangerous. Come on in, come on in, come
- 36:44Speaker 2: on in. You've probably never had sticky rice, have you?
- 36:49Speaker 2: I have. It's been a long time. Well.
- 36:54Speaker 4: We made some for you and for us, but also,
- 36:58Speaker 4: you know, let's put some rice in that belly first.
- 37:04Speaker 2: All right. You guys sit down with the wraith of
- 37:09Speaker 2: all people.
- 37:10Speaker 1: Hello.
- 37:11Speaker 2: Hello. And this is how you guys look outside of
- 37:15Speaker 2: your nice pretty costumes. Yes. Yeah.
- 37:19Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 37:20Speaker 2: Was it what you were expecting?
- 37:21Speaker 3: I like stroke my mustache that's come in in the
- 37:23Speaker 3: last month.
- 37:24Speaker 2: That's like three hairs.
- 37:25Speaker 4: Nice.
- 37:26Speaker 1: Stroke my bald head.
- 37:28Speaker 2: I had a few guesses on who you were. And
- 37:33Speaker 2: you were on my list of the people that could
- 37:36Speaker 2: be the Phantom. Wow. But now you. You've kept it
- 37:39Speaker 2: very close to your chest. Quanta.
- 37:42Speaker 1: Ronnie. Veronica. Ronnie.
- 37:44Speaker 2: Good to meet you.
- 37:46Speaker 3: So you think about us in your off time. What
- 37:48Speaker 3: other hobbies do you have? Wait, did you crack the
- 37:52Speaker 3: code on me? That I'm Jameer Jennings?
- 37:55Speaker 2: She smiles and just says, when you came to the shoot,
- 38:00Speaker 2: when the Irish were attacking it, I put it together
- 38:03Speaker 2: that night. Oh. Damn, you're good. This is what I,
- 38:10Speaker 2: it's who I am. Don't worry, other people aren't like me. Well,
- 38:16Speaker 2: we knew that. What do you mean like you? I
- 38:20Speaker 2: was part of a program during the Evo War. Uh-huh.
- 38:25Speaker 2: I'm just like spitting food in my mouth.
- 38:26Speaker 1: You're like spooning more ginger chicken into her bowl.
- 38:29Speaker 2: She's eating. She's drinking like wine or whatever you guys
- 38:32Speaker 2: have offered. She's like.
- 38:33Speaker 1: Water.
- 38:35Speaker 2: Water. Non-alcoholic whiskey. She grabs the glass of water and
- 38:41Speaker 2: looks around. You guys got brandy or wine? Yeah, sure.
- 38:45Speaker 2: No problem. There's a cabinet in the... I was part
- 38:51Speaker 2: of a program a long time ago during the evil
- 38:53Speaker 2: war that called for, they, uh, today they'd call it torture.
- 39:01Speaker 2: They tortured us. They made us into weapons and, uh,
- 39:07Speaker 2: you know, it's one of those things where you go
- 39:10Speaker 2: into a place and you're looking for weapons, you're looking
- 39:13Speaker 2: for exits, you're looking for the most dangerous person there. I,
- 39:18Speaker 2: I can track people. I can find anything, anyone. I mean,
- 39:24Speaker 2: I'm rusty. Don't get me wrong. Been a long time
- 39:28Speaker 2: since that war. And that's what you do for fun?
- 39:30Speaker 2: I don't really do fun.
- 39:33Speaker 1: Oh.
- 39:35Speaker 2: My fun was protecting the love of my life. She
- 39:40Speaker 2: breaks down, starts crying. Of course, of course. And I fail.
- 39:46Speaker 1: Offer her a napkin.
- 39:48Speaker 2: She wipes her eyes. But this has been diverting, so
- 39:52Speaker 2: thank you. That's part of the goal.
- 39:57Speaker 4: We've been, I mean, my friends here, I'm just, you know,
- 40:01Speaker 4: coming lately to it, but we've discovered some big stuff today.
- 40:05Speaker 4: We're trying to figure out what it all means. Yeah,
- 40:10Speaker 4: you know anybody who's got mind control stuff? Well, she
- 40:14Speaker 4: does know about experimentations with, evo stuff which seems pretty
- 40:20Speaker 4: relevant to what you guys cracked right yeah maybe my job.
- 40:25Speaker 2: In the evil war was to kill evos anything i
- 40:30Speaker 2: know about it was to neutralize and and we were
- 40:35Speaker 2: separated from all of it oh oh brownie's an evo
- 40:40Speaker 2: no jason what no no that's my don't worry i
- 40:46Speaker 2: I'm a fucking... No, no, no, no, no. Question, question.
- 40:51Speaker 2: You've been in this city longer than we have and
- 40:53Speaker 2: know a lot more.
- 40:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 40:56Speaker 2: Clearly. What do you know about the Ellington family? Ellington's
- 41:01Speaker 2: an interesting one. Richard Ellington was CEO and builder of
- 41:09Speaker 2: Ellington when I got here.
- 41:10Speaker 3: Whoa.
- 41:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't age anymore. That's nuts. That's a thing
- 41:17Speaker 2: to say. I'm not getting any older.
- 41:21Speaker 1: How old are you?
- 41:23Speaker 2: I haven't done the math in quite some time, but
- 41:26Speaker 2: I would say I was young when I was in
- 41:30Speaker 2: the Evo War, but that was over 60, 70 years
- 41:34Speaker 2: ago now. You look great. I'm maybe 90 to 100
- 41:38Speaker 2: and something, but I'm... Wow.
- 41:43Speaker 1: Yeah, you look fantastic.
- 41:44Speaker 2: Yeah, and I feel great. I feel quick, you know,
- 41:48Speaker 2: when I'm not drinking. I mean, you are quick, so.
- 41:52Speaker 2: What did you ask?
- 41:54Speaker 1: Ellington's.
- 41:55Speaker 2: Yes, Ellington, Richard Ellington didn't have an heir. I think.
- 42:06Speaker 2: I think that was what was in the papers, and
- 42:08Speaker 2: he was wondering what to do because he was kind
- 42:11Speaker 2: of sickly and dying out. But then, yeah, Adam Ellington
- 42:14Speaker 2: popped out of nowhere. We better have an idea of
- 42:17Speaker 2: where he popped out of.
- 42:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 42:19Speaker 2: Is that so? Oh, yeah.
- 42:21Speaker 1: Maybe a test tube.
- 42:23Speaker 2: What? Meet Sticky. I pick up Sticky from under the table.
- 42:27Speaker 1: Sticky's, like, been between my legs like a dog. Sticky
- 42:34Speaker 1: is singing. The hustle.
- 42:36Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. I don't know. The electric's live.
- 42:40Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. That's the hustle, Sticky.
- 42:46Speaker 2: I thought that was the electric slide.
- 42:48Speaker 1: Pretty sure that's the hustle, Sticky.
- 42:50Speaker 2: That's the hustle.
- 42:53Speaker 3: You might be doing Funky Town also.
- 42:58Speaker 2: I'm confused. Sticky is singing Funky Town. Okay, good. Interesting.
- 43:05Speaker 2: And what's this little bug?
- 43:07Speaker 1: I think he's happy to meet you. Oh. Yeah, okay Oh,
- 43:13Speaker 1: that was Yeah, no, that was positive Yeah He had
- 43:18Speaker 1: some interesting things to show us about Adam.
- 43:22Speaker 2: Oh Yeah Popped out of nowhere as an Ellington I
- 43:29Speaker 2: think it was an adopted kid or something I don't
- 43:32Speaker 2: know But here's the tricky one And this has been
- 43:36Speaker 2: a mystery to me for quite some time As I've
- 43:38Speaker 2: tried to keep my thumb on the pulse of this
- 43:40Speaker 2: city Adam Ellington was never married. Didn't have kids to
- 43:46Speaker 2: talk about. Got real sick. Went away. And then Manny
- 43:52Speaker 2: came out of nowhere. Oh, shoot. Hmm. No, he wouldn't.
- 43:59Speaker 2: He wouldn't test tube another person. Would he?
- 44:05Speaker 3: What?
- 44:08Speaker 1: De-age himself?
- 44:10Speaker 2: Could be the same guy. Oh, golly.
- 44:13Speaker 1: I mean, like.
- 44:15Speaker 2: Is that what we're dealing with now? De-aging? Freaky?
- 44:20Speaker 1: Like, it's not out of the realm of possibility for
- 44:22Speaker 1: what we encounter every single fucking day.
- 44:24Speaker 4: It's really not, and it kind of breaks my heart
- 44:26Speaker 4: that that's where we're at.
- 44:28Speaker 1: Quanta stands up and starts wandering the kitchen.
- 44:31Speaker 3: Oh, a hilarious anecdote. I think you'll appreciate the wraith.
- 44:34Speaker 3: We met sewer baby children in the tubes. And one
- 44:38Speaker 3: of them was the god of decay, and the other
- 44:40Speaker 3: one was a priest of growth and rejuvenation. One of
- 44:44Speaker 3: the children would crawl around like a horrifying little monster.
- 44:47Speaker 2: Yes. Quantum shivers. Lucy, you mean. Oh, you know the
- 44:50Speaker 2: little weird freakos. Yeah, it's good to talk to somebody
- 44:53Speaker 2: about it because, man, I hate seeing her move. Yeah,
- 44:57Speaker 2: us too. I've been keeping that in a long time.
- 45:00Speaker 2: I got nobody to tell. I go home. I look
- 45:02Speaker 2: at my paintings. I'm like, man, I hate seeing her move.
- 45:06Speaker 2: Not fun day.
- 45:08Speaker 1: No.
- 45:10Speaker 2: But no, the babies are good. Magic babies are good.
- 45:13Speaker 1: That's what we call them.
- 45:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 45:16Speaker 3: So it's not outside of the realm of possibility that
- 45:19Speaker 3: Adam and Manny could be the same. They could be
- 45:21Speaker 3: a clone or something. Doesn't your sister work for Manny?
- 45:27Speaker 3: I mean, she works for Ellington Electric, which is a
- 45:30Speaker 3: massive thing. But technically, yes. Yes, she works for her.
- 45:35Speaker 1: Do we know that her name was in the ledger
- 45:37Speaker 1: or do you just know that?
- 45:39Speaker 2: I know that.
- 45:39Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 45:40Speaker 1: But had you shared that? I don't remember.
- 45:43Speaker 2: That's up to you.
- 45:44Speaker 1: Sure.
- 45:44Speaker 3: I can, when I, when I, when I went on
- 45:49Speaker 3: a little field trip with the mayor, I did end
- 45:52Speaker 3: up with a ledger of mayonnaise that had some names
- 45:55Speaker 3: in it. And one of them I recognized Lila, that's
- 45:59Speaker 3: your sister, right? Yes. I, I mean, I went to
- 46:03Speaker 3: go see, Manny not that long ago. And I don't know,
- 46:07Speaker 3: maybe we don't, maybe we shouldn't be trusting him as
- 46:09Speaker 3: much as we have been.
- 46:11Speaker 2: It might be dangerous.
- 46:13Speaker 1: It's kind of feeling that way, but that feels yucky.
- 46:16Speaker 1: He's helped us so much. And wait, the other day
- 46:20Speaker 1: I was at work and he came by, but I was,
- 46:25Speaker 1: it was closing time. So he didn't stick around, but
- 46:28Speaker 1: why would he, why would he be going to Ronnie's readings?
- 46:32Speaker 1: Why would, he be paying your sister? I don't know.
- 46:36Speaker 3: Jimmy, are you ever noticed this man? You ever noticed
- 46:38Speaker 3: anything weird about him?
- 46:39Speaker 2: I mean, about manually.
- 46:42Speaker 6: Yes.
- 46:42Speaker 2: He's a weird guy. Um, what do you mean? Like,
- 46:46Speaker 2: I don't know anything.
- 46:49Speaker 3: You've got a good physical presence about your body and
- 46:53Speaker 3: awareness of that kind of stuff.
- 46:55Speaker 2: Did he ever? Yeah. I don't know. You've talked to him.
- 46:58Speaker 2: What did you guys talk about when? No, he, he's
- 47:00Speaker 2: a hella strong. Um, Is that way? Oh, I see.
- 47:10Speaker 1: But his dad or you or... Wait, so Adam was
- 47:14Speaker 1: your grandmother's benefactor too? How does this connect to the Everwing?
- 47:21Speaker 1: If they're the same guy, that's... Wait, Dirk could know
- 47:26Speaker 1: something about Adam.
- 47:27Speaker 2: He could. He could. He could.
- 47:31Speaker 1: Since he was, you know, helping your grandma, helping the heroes.
- 47:34Speaker 2: Yeah. Wraith has walked over to the bar cart and
- 47:37Speaker 2: poured herself a brandy.
- 47:39Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 47:39Speaker 1: I'll take one at this point.
- 47:42Speaker 2: And the TV is running. Yeah. Let's turn that off
- 47:48Speaker 2: real quick.
- 47:49Speaker 1: Why do we have this on?
- 47:51Speaker 2: We're having a discussion. We've got to really live in
- 47:54Speaker 2: the moment more. Yeah.
- 47:56Speaker 3: I'm tired of all these screens, right guys?
- 47:58Speaker 1: I can't believe we have a TV in the kitchen.
- 48:00Speaker 1: It's so fancy.
- 48:02Speaker 2: Anyway. It's Stephen Starr with True Babble. And I'm here
- 48:07Speaker 2: to tell you what's going on in this city.
- 48:10Speaker 1: He says it just like he did at his penthouse.
- 48:13Speaker 2: Watch the people cry for the Soma prince to replace
- 48:17Speaker 2: his mother. But he has been nowhere to be found.
- 48:22Speaker 2: You do see some footage of the people who were
- 48:25Speaker 2: backing Cordula and voting for Cordula now that she's dead
- 48:28Speaker 2: have swarmed the capital with the Soma prince's That's her son,
- 48:33Speaker 2: Soma Prince, signs and banners looking for a replacement. And
- 48:39Speaker 2: then there's Henry. My, oh, my, what a good-looking man. Sorry.
- 48:45Speaker 1: Okay, Steve.
- 48:46Speaker 2: My, oh, my, what a good-looking man and what a
- 48:48Speaker 2: strong jaw he has. And when he speaks, I just
- 48:51Speaker 2: want to listen. The thing I like about the show
- 48:53Speaker 2: is that it's unbiased. The importance of rebuilding and maintaining
- 48:59Speaker 2: a strong legal system has been key to Henry's campaign.
- 49:03Speaker 2: So there are those who point fingers and blame him.
- 49:06Speaker 2: Of course, he denies this and laments the loss of
- 49:09Speaker 2: his opponent. Let's go to Henry now.
- 49:12Speaker 1: There's lots of people who just like Henry because of
- 49:15Speaker 1: his looks. We've heard that around. Yeah, it's a fact.
- 49:20Speaker 2: Does cut to Henry and Henry is on the steps
- 49:24Speaker 2: of city hall and it catches him in the middle
- 49:27Speaker 2: of a speech to the people she wanted a better
- 49:31Speaker 2: city despite our differences she would have made it a
- 49:36Speaker 2: better city of that I have no doubt New Babel Listen,
- 49:41Speaker 2: no matter what happens in the election tomorrow, if allowed
- 49:46Speaker 2: to enter the chute and the space barge, my people
- 49:51Speaker 2: and my finances will support and continue to build her
- 49:54Speaker 2: produce program in the biodome and in no man's land.
- 49:58Speaker 2: And for this, and we do this for you, Cordula.
- 50:04Speaker 1: Why did you need that money, Henry? What? There's so many. What's? Oh,
- 50:10Speaker 1: we're in it again, guys. We're in it.
- 50:12Speaker 2: We're in it deep.
- 50:14Speaker 3: I mean, I hate to be the voice of logic
- 50:20Speaker 3: here in this situation, but one of our most successful
- 50:25Speaker 3: endeavors was just beating a man up.
- 50:28Speaker 2: Have we tried just beating a man up recently? I mean.
- 50:31Speaker 1: Who would we beat up?
- 50:33Speaker 2: I mean, we could beat up. Henry Hill.
- 50:36Speaker 4: It feels weird to beat up the almost potential new
- 50:40Speaker 4: democratically elected mayoral candidate. I'm fine talking to him, even menacingly,
- 50:48Speaker 4: but beating up does feel a little far, personally.
- 50:54Speaker 3: If they don't get Cordula's son on the ballot, then
- 50:58Speaker 3: some of the public might default back to the old mayor.
- 51:02Speaker 2: Oh, God.
- 51:04Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
- 51:07Speaker 4: Cordulo is such a better candidate than her son, I
- 51:09Speaker 4: hate to say.
- 51:10Speaker 2: I mean, he's, I don't know. I don't know. I mean,
- 51:15Speaker 2: the Soma prince would be better than Hilland is a snake.
- 51:20Speaker 1: Yeah, Jameer, did we tell you Olsen said he was
- 51:23Speaker 1: gathering cash for Henry? What?
- 51:26Speaker 3: On Manny's request. Yeah, and Henry's name was in Manny's
- 51:31Speaker 3: ledger too.
- 51:32Speaker 1: And Henry ostensibly is super wealthy.
- 51:34Speaker 2: Yeah. Maybe that's not as true as we think. Sounds
- 51:38Speaker 2: like a puppet.
- 51:40Speaker 1: For who? Who's pulling the strings?
- 51:43Speaker 2: Sounds like Manny's pulling Henry's strings. It does. It happens
- 51:48Speaker 2: all the time.
- 51:50Speaker 1: We're all just mannequins.
- 51:53Speaker 4: Nice.
- 51:54Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 51:54Speaker 2: That's good. Thank you.
- 51:56Speaker 1: I pour myself a brandy.
- 51:58Speaker 2: Congratulatory brandy. Easy. Jackie runs up from the nest. Guys,
- 52:05Speaker 2: two letters.
- 52:06Speaker 1: Oh, who are you?
- 52:09Speaker 2: My name is.
- 52:11Speaker 1: She's my grandma.
- 52:14Speaker 2: No, it's fine. She's my grandma.
- 52:18Speaker 1: That makes more sense.
- 52:19Speaker 2: We should have led with that. I'm nobody's grandma. That's
- 52:24Speaker 2: the title of a memoir. The Wraith. I'm nobody's grandma.
- 52:30Speaker 2: I'm nobody's grandma. The Journal of the Jungle.
- 52:35Speaker 1: And when you are nobody's grandma, you're everyone's grandma.
- 52:39Speaker 4: Ooh, deep.
- 52:42Speaker 2: They used to call me the Wraith. Jackie flips out,
- 52:45Speaker 2: throws the two letters on the ground.
- 52:47Speaker 1: What?
- 52:48Speaker 2: Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God, oh
- 52:50Speaker 2: my God, Jameer.
- 52:51Speaker 4: I know it's literally insane, but she's having a hard time.
- 52:55Speaker 2: Oh, okay. What do I say? She likes alcohol. Okay.
- 53:02Speaker 2: Can I get you some wine? Jackie freaks out about
- 53:07Speaker 2: the wraith. Phantom, you see the two letters she's dropped.
- 53:11Speaker 2: Pick those up. Rip them up. Don't know. Jesus Christ.
- 53:16Speaker 1: Unimportant.
- 53:17Speaker 2: Turn off the TV.
- 53:18Speaker 1: Rip up the letters.
- 53:20Speaker 2: We should probably go to sleep, right, guys? 24 hours?
- 53:23Speaker 1: Oh, Grimace King. I could go for some Grimace King.
- 53:25Speaker 2: Yeah, I'll pick up the letters. What do we got?
- 53:28Speaker 2: One of them is to you specifically from Manny Ellington
- 53:32Speaker 2: that says, I know our city is going through a
- 53:34Speaker 2: tragedy right now, but maybe to distract us, come by
- 53:38Speaker 2: for that testing you talked about to get your book removed.
- 53:45Speaker 2: That's from Manny. He gives you a time, you know,
- 53:48Speaker 2: The day after the election, which is the day after tomorrow.
- 53:52Speaker 1: Oh, did Jackie read it? Or was that?
- 53:54Speaker 2: No, they were unopened. Yeah, and I won't open them.
- 53:57Speaker 3: I'll just, what's the, is it, who's the old late
- 54:01Speaker 3: night host who'd hold letters up to his head?
- 54:04Speaker 2: Oh, Carson.
- 54:05Speaker 3: Yeah, Johnny Carson style, just like telepathically read them with
- 54:09Speaker 3: paper sense.
- 54:10Speaker 2: The other one is from Elaine Akira, who said she
- 54:13Speaker 2: would let you know about the autopsy. Wait, she probably
- 54:16Speaker 2: doesn't have direct shoot.
- 54:18Speaker 1: Direct uh to no but she's got a she's got
- 54:21Speaker 1: a phantom card she could write on that okay yeah.
- 54:24Speaker 2: Sense it sure she uh writes on her phantom card
- 54:27Speaker 2: that you left her a long time ago the following
- 54:30Speaker 2: information about the autopsy.
- 54:32Speaker 3: Yeah i imagine the way that it works is if
- 54:35Speaker 3: i give somebody a specific card it just like shows
- 54:38Speaker 3: up on my arm.
- 54:41Speaker 2: He's getting a text on your arm. Jackie runs up
- 54:44Speaker 2: with the one letter and then the other information starts
- 54:48Speaker 2: coming in on your arm. Oh, someone's using the phantom cards.
- 54:51Speaker 2: What does that feel like? Tickly. They all had enormous
- 54:57Speaker 2: amounts of apomorphine and luciferin in their blood. Staggering amounts.
- 55:05Speaker 2: And then it says, it reminded me of an unsolved
- 55:09Speaker 2: case I had to study. The cold case of Darren
- 55:12Speaker 2: Pachowski and an unnamed woman found dead with the same... Toxicology?
- 55:19Speaker 2: Toxic in their bloodstreams. Cold case.
- 55:25Speaker 1: What are those two things?
- 55:28Speaker 3: Do I know any of those big medically words? You
- 55:32Speaker 3: can roll a check if you'd like.
- 55:35Speaker 2: Yeah. A knowledge check. Yeah. Flat knowledge. Yeah.
- 55:40Speaker 1: Can I give you a brain blast?
- 55:41Speaker 4: Epic.
- 55:42Speaker 2: Epic check.
- 55:43Speaker 1: I'm going to give a brain blast.
- 55:46Speaker 2: I don't think so.
- 55:47Speaker 1: All right.
- 55:48Speaker 2: I'm not going to allow a blame blast. Blame blast.
- 55:52Speaker 2: I got an eight. I rolled a two. Yay!
- 55:55Speaker 1: Another two. Very nice.
- 55:59Speaker 2: These are... Here's what you know about these. They are hallucinogenic.
- 56:05Speaker 2: They make one incredibly susceptible to suggestion. They also are
- 56:13Speaker 2: derived from a flower, the blue lotus.
- 56:21Speaker 3: I wish Paige were here. She would know more. She
- 56:28Speaker 3: worked to make that and all of the technology and
- 56:32Speaker 3: plants and biomes there, she would know more.
- 56:36Speaker 1: What about Jill? You could ask her.
- 56:39Speaker 2: Sure. She knows about brain.
- 56:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 56:41Speaker 2: Brain knows. She's good.
- 56:43Speaker 1: How would somebody get close enough to get this stuff
- 56:46Speaker 1: inside all those people?
- 56:47Speaker 2: I'm not sure. Probably the same way they got past me, huh?
- 56:52Speaker 2: Whatever it is.
- 56:53Speaker 1: Swift shot?
- 56:54Speaker 2: Hard to do both.
- 56:56Speaker 1: I saw her tonight. I could have asked. She was
- 56:58Speaker 1: distracting me, but I didn't see her. I talked to her.
- 57:01Speaker 3: And she wouldn't have showed up on the video footage.
- 57:04Speaker 1: She wouldn't have. Did I ask her about it? I
- 57:07Speaker 1: don't know. She was talking about all the stuff she
- 57:10Speaker 1: was talking about in Elaine's apartment, about day superiority and
- 57:15Speaker 1: all that.
- 57:16Speaker 2: So she's not chill, huh?
- 57:18Speaker 1: No, no. She lied.
- 57:20Speaker 2: That's hard.
- 57:21Speaker 1: People lie.
- 57:22Speaker 2: We are going to jump into the next day. The
- 57:27Speaker 2: people of New Babel go out and vote in stunning numbers.
- 57:35Speaker 2: The evening comes and the final votes are being counted.
- 57:39Speaker 2: The Soma prince, the son of Cordula, has not shown.
- 57:45Speaker 2: And it is revealed an incredibly close race. Both candidates
- 57:48Speaker 2: have done a wonderful job of presenting a better New Babel.
- 57:56Speaker 2: In the end.
- 57:58Speaker 2: Henry Hilland lost by 2%. The city council that is
- 58:07Speaker 2: new and nervous and has been traumatized wants out of
- 58:13Speaker 2: all of this. Yeah. They want a new mayor. They
- 58:18Speaker 2: decide to swear in Henry Hilland as the new mayor
- 58:24Speaker 2: of New Babel.
- 58:24Speaker 1: What? What?
- 58:28Speaker 2: What?
- 58:30Speaker 3: I mean, it's not the worst outcome.
- 58:33Speaker 2: Fuck, I forgot to vote. God damn it. Jason.
- 58:39Speaker 1: Oh, Jason.
- 58:41Speaker 2: I forgot.
- 58:42Speaker 1: You were the 2%. I was the 2%.
- 58:42Speaker 2: And then we will cut to an event that happens
- 58:44Speaker 2: in this city that our heroes do not see. But
- 58:56Speaker 2: you as players will get to hear about. And you
- 59:00Speaker 2: as our audience gets to hear about.
- 59:04Speaker 4: Also get to hear about.
- 59:06Speaker 3: A delicious dramatic irony. The city of New Babel is enormous.
- 59:11Speaker 3: For the people that live there, it seems to stretch
- 59:14Speaker 3: over everything that the sunlight touches. But it is also
- 59:19Speaker 3: full of dark corners and crevices, dark spaces that no
- 59:23Speaker 3: one has the courage to venture into. We cut to
- 59:27Speaker 3: one of these dark rooms. In the highest tower of
- 59:30Speaker 3: the Catholic Church on the north side of the city
- 59:33Speaker 3: sits a dejected city council. The old one, who no
- 59:40Speaker 3: longer has their power. They have opened a bottle of
- 59:44Speaker 3: communion wine, and they talk in a holy and abandoned attic,
- 59:49Speaker 3: where a priest used to stay, waiting to ring the
- 59:52Speaker 3: bells above. Benjamin Shabroth says, It's all the fault of
- 59:57Speaker 3: those heroes. Does anyone know anything? Like who they are?
- 1:00:01Speaker 3: Their families?
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: Their friends? Where is Catherine? She knows a lot. Maybe
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: she would know. Gary Stephenson says, Guys, I'm just not
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: sure if I'm supposed to be here. Last time I
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: talked with Addy, he told me to stay in my house.
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: Mitchell Nichols says, You oaf. Adrian is in prison. What
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: he says doesn't matter anymore. But Addie said we don't
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: have to worry about the police. George Olsen says, Well,
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: they matter now, Gary. All thanks to those heroes. No,
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: I don't know anything about them. They've come to see
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: me a lot. I think they kind of like me.
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: I just know that I've got nothing left. They took
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: everything from me except the equity in my business and
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: all the properties I own and all the cars I own.
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: I guess I still have a lot. But the thing
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: I can't forgive... It's them taking away my reputation. It's
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: been ruined. No one is buying Clank anymore. No one
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: wants to party with me. Mitchell Nichols says, Oh, shut up.
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: It's about power. We've lost our power in this city.
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: For all we know, this city is all there will
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: ever be. And we were on top of it. The
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: power structure is changing. Those with superpowers... May as well
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: be in charge. Stephen Starr speaks up for the first time.
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: And what if we had powers? Ooh. Benjamin Shabra said,
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: Shut it, Stephen. Don't be an idiot. No, I've brought
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: means by which we very few and very righteous could
- 1:01:41Speaker 2: be gifted special abilities. We would have to go on
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: a trip, though. Mitchell Nichols says, A trip? To where?
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: What do you have? Stephen Starr pulls out a book.
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: The book is deep red, and it has a demon's
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: face protruding slightly from the cover. Ha ha ha! Here
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: it is! My grandma was a strange lady.
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: She was somebody's grandma.
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: She said I was meant for greatness. She said that
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: I would be a star one day. That people would
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: one day hang on every word that I said. Benjamin,
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: Shabrat says, Stephen, the book... Right, she gave me this
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: book saying that if I opened it, I would have
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: to go on a journey through hell. But if I
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: made it through, a demon would give me powers, Mitchell
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: Nichols says. So, it's nothing. It's a fake. There are
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: no demons and they have no power over me if
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: there are. George Olsen looks at the book. No, I
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: feel something. There's something in there. Oh, please, get a
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: hold of yourself, fools! While Mitchell berates his fellow council members,
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: Gary Stephenson cuts his hand and puts it on the book.
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: Like this, right? I saw it in a movie. The
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: book opens, and out of it blooms a hooded figure
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: of dark cloud, its red eyes too bright to hide
- 1:03:10Speaker 2: behind the smog of its face. so many to traverse
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: the stairs.
- 1:03:31Speaker 3: Of hell.
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: Overcome and power will be yours the city council all
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: slowly follow this shadow guide into hell for an adventure
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: of desperation And that's where we'll end this episode of
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: the Team Up Play Show podcast. Fucking nuts.
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: Yes, Rogues Gallery.
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: Hell, take me to hell.
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: I want a highway to hell. That's probably the song
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: you were trying to sing.
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: Maybe. All about the highway to hell. They all come
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: back as Spiderman. This is the stairway to hell is
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: what he said.
