- 0:00Speaker 1: What's up Crimson Tide fans? The calendar on your fridge
- 0:03Speaker 1: may say 2026, but today it felt a lot like
- 0:07Speaker 1: 2014 or 2011, 2012, 2020, 2009. You get the idea
- 0:11Speaker 1: when Alabama reigned supreme as the team to beat in
- 0:13Speaker 1: college football in the face of the SEC because that's
- 0:16Speaker 1: what you witnessed today out in Starkville. It's one thing
- 0:19Speaker 1: to go into a place where the cowbells are ringing
- 0:22Speaker 1: and the environment is toxic and get a convincing win
- 0:25Speaker 1: against an offense that has a hot shot young quarterback
- 0:28Speaker 1: one of the best wide receivers in the country, and
- 0:30Speaker 1: a team that's averaging over 500 yards per game. It's
- 0:33Speaker 1: another thing to shut them down, make them one-dimensional, and
- 0:36Speaker 1: make a stance that says, hey, you know what? We're
- 0:38Speaker 1: the team to beat. Because Alabama, if not for their
- 0:41Speaker 1: careless mistakes, if not for their bonehead penalties and miscues
- 0:45Speaker 1: on turnovers, they could have hung 60. But still, it
- 0:48Speaker 1: didn't matter because Alabama was able to coast their way
- 0:50Speaker 1: to a 56-23 victory over Mississippi State. The first 5-0
- 0:54Speaker 1: start underneath Kalen DeBoer, and what is the big takeaway?
- 0:57Speaker 1: Let's break it all down. Welcome on into SEC Football Addiction.

- 1:29Speaker 1: most convincing victory underneath Kalen DeBoer in 2026. This is
- 1:34Speaker 1: a win that I think has changed the way that
- 1:36Speaker 1: the public is going to view Alabama moving forward. Because
- 1:40Speaker 1: next weekend, you welcome in Georgia. And it's an opportunity
- 1:44Speaker 1: to make sure that 1. Today was not a look-ahead game.
- 1:47Speaker 1: But 2. Everything that was on display in Starkville can
- 1:50Speaker 1: carry back into Tuscaloosa and go up against one of
- 1:53Speaker 1: the most high-rated defenses in college football. But how did
- 1:56Speaker 1: we get this final score? Well, case in point, defense
- 1:59Speaker 1: was electric. From the very get-go, they made sure that
- 2:02Speaker 1: Kamario Taylor felt the pressure. They made sure that he
- 2:04Speaker 1: was in a world of hurt. They were making sure
- 2:07Speaker 1: that he didn't have time to throw. And after those
- 2:09Speaker 1: first completions that we saw to Anthony Evans, it felt
- 2:12Speaker 1: like this is where Kamario Taylor was going to start
- 2:14Speaker 1: getting in the groove. And then thankfully, you had a
- 2:17Speaker 1: fumble right at midfield. Your offense went down the field.
- 2:19Speaker 1: You fumbled with Daniel Hill, but you recovered. And you
- 2:22Speaker 1: were able to respond, finding your way into the end
- 2:23Speaker 1: zone with Ryan Coleman-Williams, who, can we all just agree,
- 2:27Speaker 1: wearing gloves is a good thing and it feels like
- 2:29Speaker 1: that he's back. Your young quarterback in Keelan Russell understood
- 2:32Speaker 1: his surroundings, played within the structure, and he didn't make
- 2:36Speaker 1: the mental mistakes. Massive win in favor of Alabama. We'll
- 2:39Speaker 1: get to the offense in a minute, but I want
- 2:41Speaker 1: to focus in on the defense. Kane Womack now has
- 2:44Speaker 1: a unit. That may be even better than advertised. When
- 2:47Speaker 1: they're not allowing explosive haymakers down the field to guys
- 2:51Speaker 1: like Deuce Robinson and Mimsy and Nick Harbour, they are
- 2:55Speaker 1: making plays. You come into this game and you had
- 2:58Speaker 1: four track stars at wide receiver. Anthony Evans is a
- 3:00Speaker 1: human highlight reel. But you also had Marquise Johnson, San
- 3:03Speaker 1: Francisco McGee, countless others. Well, you allowed Anthony Evans to
- 3:07Speaker 1: beat you at nine. 12 catches for 166 yards, two touchdowns,
- 3:10Speaker 1: including that big third quarter 45-yard strike. You know the
- 3:15Speaker 1: rest of the offense, you didn't have another wide receiver
- 3:17Speaker 1: get more than 51. No other receiver caught more than
- 3:20Speaker 1: three balls. The longest play from scrimmage outside of Anthony
- 3:24Speaker 1: Evans was for 27 yards. And that's not even the
- 3:27Speaker 1: stat that you have to look at. If I were
- 3:29Speaker 1: to tell you that Mississippi State finished 7-17 on third
- 3:31Speaker 1: down and had 300 yards of offense, you probably would
- 3:34Speaker 1: believe that that's good. If I told you that there
- 3:36Speaker 1: was a three touchdown day for Kamario Taylor, you probably
- 3:39Speaker 1: would believe that that's enough to make this a close fair.
- 3:43Speaker 1: If I were to tell you that Alabama had 10
- 3:45Speaker 1: penalties for 64 yards compared to 4 for 29 with
- 3:48Speaker 1: Mississippi State, you'd probably say that this is actually a
- 3:51Speaker 1: lot closer. There's one Saturday left on out, rushing yards. 181-18.
- 3:55Speaker 1: And I understand that Fluff Bothwell left in the first quarter.
- 3:59Speaker 1: They tried to get him to go. It was clear
- 4:01Speaker 1: that he wasn't going to work. They said after the
- 4:03Speaker 1: first drive that he was done for the day. Bottom
- 4:06Speaker 1: line is that it didn't matter if Fluff Bothwell was
- 4:07Speaker 1: out there or not. Alabama was making it clear that
- 4:09Speaker 1: if Kamario Taylor wanted to win this game, Kamario Taylor
- 4:11Speaker 1: would have to play like a Heisman. That was it.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Took away the rushing attack. Less than one yard a
- 4:17Speaker 1: carry on today's game. No run longer than, let me
- 4:22Speaker 1: just remind everybody, 13 yards. And it came from Colin Wilson. 0.6
- 4:27Speaker 1: yards per play on 30 carries. And unfortunately, at some point,
- 4:30Speaker 1: Jeff Levy had to wave the white flag and say,
- 4:32Speaker 1: if we're going to win this game, we're taking shots downfield.
- 4:35Speaker 1: And at that point, a little bit too late. Big
- 4:37Speaker 1: time interception by Dijon Lee, who probably had the game
- 4:40Speaker 1: of the day, even with the bonehead mistake on the
- 4:42Speaker 1: muff punt. Still, all the things that you watched him do, phenomenal.
- 4:46Speaker 1: Gets you up to a 14-0 lead. Kind of allowed
- 4:48Speaker 1: to take your foot off the gas just a little bit.
- 4:51Speaker 1: See what happens with the offense for Kamario Taylor and company.
- 4:54Speaker 1: And then you come back out there and you deliver.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Five sacks on the day, forcing them to live in
- 4:58Speaker 1: third and long situations, making Anthony Evans and Kamario Taylor
- 5:02Speaker 1: be a duo wrecking crew that could shut you down.
- 5:05Speaker 1: That was really what was the case. And you tested them.
- 5:08Speaker 1: And they won some battles, which is fair because Kamario
- 5:10Speaker 1: Taylor is a fantastic athlete. Anthony Evans is one of
- 5:14Speaker 1: the most slept on players in the country from a
- 5:16Speaker 1: national perspective. But who else beat J.D.? outside of yourself,
- 5:21Speaker 1: on countless miscues, on countless mistakes, which didn't even bother
- 5:25Speaker 1: because why would it when you're up by 30? The weather,
- 5:27Speaker 1: I thought, was going to play a major factor in
- 5:29Speaker 1: this game. You had a clear, sunny sky, muggy, definitely moist,
- 5:35Speaker 1: and certainly humid afternoon out in Starkville. For the most part,
- 5:39Speaker 1: weather wasn't a factor. One team was able to run
- 5:41Speaker 1: the football and open up the playbook on second and
- 5:43Speaker 1: third downs with their offensive coordinator and Ryan Grubb. And
- 5:46Speaker 1: the other one couldn't. And that was largely due to
- 5:49Speaker 1: how each defense played and how each team mentally prepared
- 5:52Speaker 1: for certain situations. Alabama defensively behind their coordinator, Kane Womack,
- 5:56Speaker 1: who needs to start getting more looks to become a
- 5:59Speaker 1: head coach in college football next offseason, which would sting
- 6:02Speaker 1: for the Crimson Tide replacing the defense coordinator. But at
- 6:05Speaker 1: the same time, when you watch the way that he coaches,
- 6:07Speaker 1: it's very clear that he is ready for a promotion
- 6:09Speaker 1: somewhere at the power four level. Maybe not the SEC,
- 6:12Speaker 1: but certainly other programs. It is a defense that will
- 6:15Speaker 1: be lethal. They do not know how to stop. They
- 6:18Speaker 1: do not know what the whistle is. And that is
- 6:22Speaker 1: the intimidation factor that got after Kamario Taylor to make
- 6:25Speaker 1: multiple mental mistakes, especially coming out at halftime after Alabama scored.
- 6:29Speaker 1: Bad interception where Caleb Woodson right place, right time to
- 6:32Speaker 1: set up another scoring drive for Alabama, thus making it
- 6:36Speaker 1: clear that the Crimson Tide were not going to find
- 6:39Speaker 1: a way to lose this game whatsoever.
- 6:41Speaker 2: Hey, guys, I'll get right back to the video, but
- 6:42Speaker 2: first I want to make sure you are subscribed both

- 7:12Speaker 2: All of the conference football addictions, college football addiction, and
- 7:15Speaker 2: of course, the power too. All right, back to the clip.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Alabama's offense is a wagon. And we knew that going
- 7:21Speaker 1: into this game. They were hanging up almost 50 points
- 7:24Speaker 1: per contest. And they delivered in the second quarter against
- 7:27Speaker 1: Florida State how they dismantled South Carolina last week. And
- 7:31Speaker 1: maybe it wasn't just slow starts for Alabama in those
- 7:35Speaker 1: games against Florida. East Carolina, against Kentucky, against FSU. Maybe
- 7:39Speaker 1: it was building to something more. Because I thought that
- 7:42Speaker 1: against a team like Mississippi State, that's defense is drastically
- 7:45Speaker 1: improved from a season ago with Zach Garnett back in
- 7:47Speaker 1: the saddle in Starkville. This was going to be a
- 7:49Speaker 1: game that could definitely test how this offense had progressed
- 7:53Speaker 1: from last week against South Carolina, going into a road
- 7:57Speaker 1: environment where the Cowbells and the Klingon would be a
- 8:00Speaker 1: nightmare scenario for any young quarterback. And they were in phase.
- 8:03Speaker 1: They finished with over 500 yards of offense. They had
- 8:06Speaker 1: Treshawn Brown and Daniel Hill, each average over four yards
- 8:10Speaker 1: of play. EJ Crowell and AK Deer plus Kevin Riley
- 8:13Speaker 1: got involved. And of course, you're going to mention Keelan Russell,
- 8:16Speaker 1: who in front of our eyes, when the whole country
- 8:19Speaker 1: has been so focusing on Kamario Taylor, and for good reason,
- 8:22Speaker 1: especially what he's doing for that program out in Starkville,
- 8:25Speaker 1: you saw who was the better quarterback. I think it's
- 8:28Speaker 1: unfair that so far this season, the conversation around Kamario
- 8:32Speaker 1: Taylor has kind of oversaturated or oversight everyone else in
- 8:36Speaker 1: the SEC. And I understand it's a program like Mississippi
- 8:39Speaker 1: State that doesn't have human highlight players that constantly come
- 8:44Speaker 1: on through. Where Alabama does and Georgia does and even
- 8:47Speaker 1: Ole Miss with Lane Kiffin when he was there, it
- 8:49Speaker 1: certainly does. But I want to make this clear. Keelan
- 8:52Speaker 1: Russell deserves all the credit in the world for how
- 8:55Speaker 1: well he has adjusted into Kalen DeBoer's offense and how
- 8:58Speaker 1: he has kind of taken on over each week to
- 9:01Speaker 1: learn something new and prove this is the right guy
- 9:04Speaker 1: to lead the team. He was decisive with his throws.
- 9:07Speaker 1: One pass I saw today that was slightly out of
- 9:09Speaker 1: reach for a player. Everyone else on the money. Everyone
- 9:12Speaker 1: else direct. No second guessing. And when things decided to
- 9:16Speaker 1: blow on up behind the line of scrimmage, he tried
- 9:18Speaker 1: to take off running. And he was sacked a few times.
- 9:20Speaker 1: Happens in college football. He also was able to go
- 9:23Speaker 1: ahead and run for 16 yards, which really was actually
- 9:25Speaker 1: probably more so after sack yardage, You take that on out,
- 9:28Speaker 1: probably around 45 yards. And he found the end zone
- 9:31Speaker 1: on a 17-yard scamper to be able to give Alabama
- 9:34Speaker 1: once again more of a lead in the cushion to
- 9:36Speaker 1: feel like that they were coasting towards the second half.
- 9:39Speaker 1: So you're watching as this offense is getting better in
- 9:42Speaker 1: front of our eyes. First off, it was slow starts.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Now it's fast starts. Now it's consistency in the second
- 9:48Speaker 1: and third quarter. Alabama has itself a dynamic unit at
- 9:53Speaker 1: every level. And the biggest thing is that you're watching
- 9:55Speaker 1: as younger players are starting to get more involved and
- 9:58Speaker 1: feel comfortable and adjusted to running the show underneath Ryan
- 10:02Speaker 1: Grubb and Kalen DeBoer. Think about a guy like Lottie Brooks,
- 10:06Speaker 1: who comes on up with two incredible catches. One on
- 10:09Speaker 1: third down for a 39-yard gain, right on the money,
- 10:12Speaker 1: beautiful pass from Kalen Russell. But then another one on
- 10:15Speaker 1: third down where he just blows past the target and
- 10:19Speaker 1: and gets a 50-yard strike. And he could have had
- 10:22Speaker 1: a third catch that would have put him for over
- 10:24Speaker 1: 100 yards on the day, but the ball was just
- 10:26Speaker 1: barely outreaching his hands, and it unfortunately led to a
- 10:29Speaker 1: drop on third down. But we're talking about him taking
- 10:32Speaker 1: on over and saying, hey, Ryan Coleman-Williams dealing with a
- 10:35Speaker 1: little bit of a knee injury. I got you. It's
- 10:38Speaker 1: all good. How about a guy that you want to
- 10:39Speaker 1: talk about like Trayshon Brown? leading your team in rushing yards,
- 10:44Speaker 1: getting five carries for over 10 plus yards downfield, finding
- 10:47Speaker 1: ways to keep your feet moving. When you know that
- 10:49Speaker 1: you're at the line of scrimmage and you can just
- 10:50Speaker 1: go down, now I want more. Watching him step on up.
- 10:54Speaker 1: And I want to give a massive shout out to
- 10:55Speaker 1: this unit because they do not get enough respect nationally
- 10:58Speaker 1: and they should. Alabama right now is tight end you.
- 11:01Speaker 1: The best tight ends in college football, at least in
- 11:03Speaker 1: the SEC, might reside in Alabama for how well they block,
- 11:07Speaker 1: how well they get on open, how well they're able
- 11:09Speaker 1: to win after contact. Marshall Pritchett, With the highlight of
- 11:13Speaker 1: the day hurtling over multiple Bulldog defenders for a gain
- 11:17Speaker 1: of 20-plus, how are you not sitting here and saying
- 11:21Speaker 1: that this unit is not only finding itself, but it's
- 11:24Speaker 1: getting like in a rhythm of consistency? Caleb Edwards had
- 11:27Speaker 1: a big-time catch for 32 yards, and then once you
- 11:29Speaker 1: got in the red zone, you were able to capitalize.
- 11:31Speaker 1: Alabama this season has been perfect inside the red zone.
- 11:34Speaker 1: 24 trips, 24 scoring opportunities. Now, some ended field goals
- 11:38Speaker 1: while others ended touchdowns. And credit, Connor Talti made his
- 11:41Speaker 1: field goal before they ran into the kicker. And because
- 11:44Speaker 1: of that, you were able to go back out there,
- 11:46Speaker 1: take the field one more time, and score for the
- 11:47Speaker 1: last time with Keelan Russell and company out there before
- 11:50Speaker 1: you went to your backups. But again, once you're inside
- 11:53Speaker 1: the 20, you've been lights out. I think another thing
- 11:55Speaker 1: that's been so important here is that Alabama saw something
- 11:58Speaker 1: that happened with Kamario Taylor and they didn't waste opportunities.
- 12:01Speaker 1: Alabama was able to capitalize. On three turnovers by Mississippi
- 12:06Speaker 1: State today, every single one led to a touchdown. Going
- 12:09Speaker 1: into this game, Mississippi State only had four turnovers through
- 12:14Speaker 1: the first four games of the college football season. Every
- 12:17Speaker 1: single one led to a scoring opportunity. So Alabama did
- 12:21Speaker 1: squander having short field positions and the opportunities to be
- 12:24Speaker 1: able to make the most of those plays, which allowed
- 12:27Speaker 1: them to feel more comfortable, allowed them to open up
- 12:29Speaker 1: the playbook a little bit more, and not be afraid
- 12:31Speaker 1: to take some shots when they were able to go
- 12:33Speaker 1: ahead and have some big-time plays. Again, look at Keelan
- 12:35Speaker 1: Russell making that one incredible throw, pinpoint accurate, with man
- 12:40Speaker 1: coverage against Rico Scott. And Scott didn't drop the ball.
- 12:44Speaker 1: Scott delivered and got six. Beautiful play and execution, not
- 12:48Speaker 1: only by Ryan Grubb, but by the offense in general.
- 12:51Speaker 1: And now it feels like they are a wagon with
- 12:54Speaker 1: very few things that is going to derail their season.
- 12:57Speaker 1: But there is one that could end up being a
- 12:59Speaker 1: reason why Alabama comes up short of making it to
- 13:02Speaker 1: a national title game, winning the SEC conference, and hosting
- 13:06Speaker 1: a playoff matchup or getting a first round bye in
- 13:08Speaker 1: the playoffs, even if they are to finish 10-2. Careless penalties.
- 13:13Speaker 1: It's something that has been a problem. It is something
- 13:15Speaker 1: that has been addressed by Kalen DeBoer that they are
- 13:17Speaker 1: trying to work on. And yet still, Alabama's score is
- 13:21Speaker 1: probably not what it dictates. Yes, Alabama hung 56. Backups
- 13:25Speaker 1: got to play. You saw a more physical and idealistic
- 13:29Speaker 1: option of what this Kalen DeBoer unit is supposed to
- 13:32Speaker 1: look like. Score could have been 66. Score could have
- 13:35Speaker 1: been 70. Alabama was playing that well. But the constant
- 13:38Speaker 1: negation of plays that they put themselves in allowed Mississippi
- 13:42Speaker 1: State to capitalize. Dijon Lane with the muff punt leads
- 13:46Speaker 1: to a turnover at midfield. You get a turnover. You
- 13:49Speaker 1: get a big, big strip on Francisco McGee. You get
- 13:54Speaker 1: the ball back on over because of your fumble at
- 13:56Speaker 1: that point. Miscommunication on the last drive where there's big-time plays.
- 14:01Speaker 1: Hands to the face by number 11. Camario Taylor is
- 14:04Speaker 1: getting sacked. Take away a sack. On top of that,
- 14:07Speaker 1: you have two pass interference penalties. One of which I
- 14:10Speaker 1: thought was ticky tacky. One was clear as day. And
- 14:13Speaker 1: Alabama finishes with 10 penalties for 65 yards. It's inexcusable
- 14:17Speaker 1: at some times. Now, it didn't hurt you today because
- 14:19Speaker 1: if you win by 25 plus, four scores. But on
- 14:23Speaker 1: the flip side, you do welcome in Georgia, and Georgia
- 14:26Speaker 1: doesn't get known for its penalties. And at the start
- 14:29Speaker 1: of the game, what made this so close was Alabama
- 14:32Speaker 1: actually was losing pitifully in the penalty marker. The first
- 14:36Speaker 1: penalty was called for Mississippi State with two minutes left,
- 14:39Speaker 1: right before they marched on in and got a field
- 14:42Speaker 1: goal before halftime. That's why this game at some point
- 14:45Speaker 1: felt like here's where Mississippi State can kind of come
- 14:48Speaker 1: back in and take advantages. Because Alabama with the self-inflicting
- 14:51Speaker 1: wounds were terrible. It was heinous. But it doesn't hurt
- 14:55Speaker 1: you today. And it may not hurt you next week
- 14:57Speaker 1: when you play against a team like Georgia. In fact,
- 14:59Speaker 1: the way that your offense looked, hanging over 500 yards
- 15:02Speaker 1: of offense, finding the end zone on seven different occasions.
- 15:07Speaker 1: You got to feel pretty good about where you are. Actually,
- 15:09Speaker 1: my apologies. I believe it's eight different occasions. Touchdown, touchdown, touchdown, touchdown. Touchdown, touchdown, touchdown, touchdown.
- 15:16Speaker 1: Eight different times. Didn't hurt your name. And your offense
- 15:19Speaker 1: is a wagon. I think that now you're actually starting
- 15:22Speaker 1: to see that this version of the Crimson Tide underneath
- 15:24Speaker 1: Kalen DeBoer is probably going to be one that we
- 15:27Speaker 1: are talking about long term as a threat to win
- 15:31Speaker 1: SEC titles, college football playoff appearances. It's funny. Last season,
- 15:37Speaker 1: people look at Alabama and they say it wasn't good
- 15:39Speaker 1: enough because of a loss of Florida State and because
- 15:42Speaker 1: of what happened in the playoff and how things went
- 15:44Speaker 1: down in Atlanta. And I remember saying, even on this channel,
- 15:49Speaker 1: what if this is the worst version of Kalen DeBoer's
- 15:52Speaker 1: offense or Alabama team that we see? What if last
- 15:55Speaker 1: season was the single worst year of Alabama football? And
- 16:00Speaker 1: I got a lot of feedback saying, well, they had
- 16:01Speaker 1: a veteran quarterback that You know, knew how to run
- 16:04Speaker 1: a system like that. They had great role players, and
- 16:06Speaker 1: Jeremy Bernard was here, and their defense was damn good. Well,
- 16:10Speaker 1: you didn't get this version of a run game last season.
- 16:14Speaker 1: It's improved. You didn't get this version of an offensive line.
- 16:17Speaker 1: It still has its faults, but it's improved. Wide receivers
- 16:19Speaker 1: are making plays consistently. They are improved. And defensively, I
- 16:23Speaker 1: don't know if there's a unit right now in college
- 16:24Speaker 1: football that is more consistent than the Crimson Tide. McCain
- 16:27Speaker 1: will not call the shots. Alabama's a wagon, and they
- 16:30Speaker 1: handle business on the road, and they didn't think of
- 16:32Speaker 1: a team like Mississippi State as just another lull matchup
- 16:36Speaker 1: where they can start looking ahead towards Georgia. But now
- 16:38Speaker 1: you can start looking ahead towards Georgia, because with this
- 16:41Speaker 1: opportunity comes a bigger one to, on the national stage,
- 16:45Speaker 1: prove to everybody in college football that you are the
- 16:47Speaker 1: team to beat. And it's not that hard to envision
- 16:49Speaker 1: a world where Alabama wins next week in Tuscaloosa, a
- 16:52Speaker 1: place that has been a house of horrors for Kirby
- 16:54Speaker 1: Smart and the Bulldogs. They don't become the team to beat.
- 16:57Speaker 1: But I want to hear from you in the comments section.

- 17:22Speaker 1: Alabama rolls past Mississippi State for a must-have victory in
- 17:26Speaker 1: the Kalen DeBoer era. And they may be rolling their
- 17:28Speaker 1: way all the way to an opportunity to win a
- 17:31Speaker 1: national title in 2026. Talk to you next time. Peace.
