- 1:18Speaker 5: I need to know how close are we and where
- 1:23Speaker 5: are we at on our top one hundred list?
- 1:26Speaker 4: Where are we?
- 1:27Speaker 6: We're rolling? We've almost got to turn it in soon.
- 1:30Speaker 4: So oh really rolling?
- 1:33Speaker 3: Rolling?
- 1:33Speaker 1: What you is?
- 1:34Speaker 5: Mom?
- 1:35Speaker 6: Yeah? Now every year he does the whole I'm going
- 1:38Speaker 6: to give you a number. You give me the guy?
- 1:41Speaker 4: When can I start?
- 1:42Speaker 5: Because what are we like four weeks away? If I
- 1:46Speaker 5: start next week with random number.
- 1:48Speaker 6: You're twenty one days out from the draft, can you?
- 1:51Speaker 4: Oh, well, then we have to start now. We have
- 1:53Speaker 4: to start this week.
- 1:53Speaker 6: I need to start.
- 1:55Speaker 4: What do you mean? No, okay, next week, next wen,
- 1:58Speaker 4: next week, we can start. That gives me. That gives
- 2:01Speaker 4: me like two names or two numbers. That's it?
- 2:04Speaker 6: Perhaps, okay, yeah, all right, all right?
- 2:06Speaker 2: Can you give us this much?
- 2:07Speaker 3: I mean, every year under Legwald's Top one hundred, the
- 2:11Speaker 3: year of the quarterback, the year the defensive back?
- 2:14Speaker 5: What is this?
- 2:15Speaker 2: The year off what position?
- 2:17Speaker 3: Oh?
- 2:17Speaker 6: Running back, running back, no question, and defensive lineman.
- 2:22Speaker 7: This is so weird board though, that I think a
- 2:24Speaker 7: lot of the first round could get nutty in the
- 2:27Speaker 7: back half because, uh, this is the fewest first round
- 2:32Speaker 7: grades I've heard teams having for for quite a while.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Like, like, like, what kind of number we talking about
- 2:37Speaker 2: twenty fifteen.
- 2:39Speaker 7: Now, the lowest number I've heard is fourteen. Wow, so
- 2:43Speaker 7: that that's pretty low. I mean even you know, most
- 2:46Speaker 7: years you're looking at high teens, low twenties. This, and
- 2:50Speaker 7: it's really strong rounds two through four, so you know
- 2:55Speaker 7: you're gonna you might have a lot of people, I'm
- 2:58Speaker 7: a back end of the first round just decided Okay,
- 3:00Speaker 7: we're just gonna take the guy we like because the
- 3:02Speaker 7: grade's close enough, or some people are gonna be looking
- 3:05Speaker 7: to get out. So I think that could influence how
- 3:10Speaker 7: things look because if you're you're picking in the late twenties,
- 3:14Speaker 7: you know, on you you may not have any first
- 3:16Speaker 7: round players left. You know, if if the board goes
- 3:19Speaker 7: a certain way.
- 3:21Speaker 5: Is this a silly way of thinking, because I've seen
- 3:23Speaker 5: the Patriots do this, Like today, they just traded Joe
- 3:27Speaker 5: Milton to the Cowboys. So he's a sixth round pick.
- 3:29Speaker 5: They flipped him for a fifth round pick. Okay, it's
- 3:31Speaker 5: not that big a deal. But over the years, they've
- 3:34Speaker 5: traded Garoppolo, they've traded Jacoby Brissett, they've traded Brian Hoyer,
- 3:38Speaker 5: they've traded Ryan Mallett.
- 3:39Speaker 4: Like they got all these different names.
- 3:41Speaker 5: Is it silly to like just look the back end
- 3:44Speaker 5: of the draft, maybe from rounds four or later, take
- 3:47Speaker 5: a guy and try and flip them, Like, is that
- 3:49Speaker 5: a decent business practice for an NFL team?
- 3:53Speaker 6: I wouldn't say, you know, you don't. It's not like
- 3:56Speaker 6: flipping houses. You know you don't.
- 3:58Speaker 7: You don't do it with the engine of moving the player.
- 4:02Speaker 7: But quarterbacks are a little different. I mean I always
- 4:06Speaker 7: used the example. You know, Ron Wolfe's a Hall of
- 4:09Speaker 7: Fame general manager, and he had Brett Farve on his
- 4:14Speaker 7: roster at the time. And I think he went seven
- 4:17Speaker 7: drafts in a row and took a quarterback even though
- 4:20Speaker 7: he had Brett Farv because he wanted to do what
- 4:23Speaker 7: you're talking about. If you get lucky or you get
- 4:27Speaker 7: it right, you've got quarterback depth, you know. But Farv
- 4:32Speaker 7: never he played every snap.
- 4:33Speaker 6: All the time. You know, he was like Peyton Manning.
- 4:36Speaker 7: He didn't give up practice snaps even But Ron did
- 4:39Speaker 7: it with the idea of later on, what's the most
- 4:42Speaker 7: high value asset you can have as a team, and
- 4:47Speaker 7: that's quarterbacks. So he collected him and he would often
- 4:50Speaker 7: move him for picks, and I think that's sort of
- 4:53Speaker 7: what the Patriots are have done. They haven't done it
- 4:57Speaker 7: with quarterbacks who were probably you know, as starter were
- 5:00Speaker 7: the as the Packers did with some of those guys.
- 5:03Speaker 7: But again it's Ron Wolf did exactly what you're talking about,
- 5:09Speaker 7: but he did it with quarterbacks.
- 5:11Speaker 6: I don't I don't think every position works.
- 5:13Speaker 3: I'm still puzzled in what was the intent that Broncos
- 5:16Speaker 3: had with Zach Wilson, you know that one.
- 5:20Speaker 7: I'm still a little befuddled. I think they wanted to
- 5:23Speaker 7: take a look and saw plenty of good things.
- 5:29Speaker 6: I think they made a sort of a comfort level decision.
- 5:34Speaker 7: It's probably easier for Jared Stidham at this point in
- 5:38Speaker 7: his career to be the veteran backup, you know, calming presence.
- 5:44Speaker 7: I think Zach Wilson still wants to play because the
- 5:48Speaker 7: Broncos sort of reinvigorated him, and you know, they helped
- 5:54Speaker 7: repare his game a lot. Davis Webb did a great
- 5:56Speaker 7: job with him, and I think he left here now.
- 6:02Speaker 7: You know, I think you go to Miami because you know,
- 6:04Speaker 7: Tuus had some injuries and and some of those things.
- 6:07Speaker 7: But I think he Vicky wanted long term, he wanted
- 6:11Speaker 7: to start again.
- 6:12Speaker 6: If he can.
- 6:13Speaker 3: Since we last spoke to you, we've seen some changes
- 6:17Speaker 3: with NFL rules, primarily the kickoff rule.
- 6:20Speaker 2: Now, uh, is that help or hamper the Broncos With
- 6:23Speaker 2: Melvin Mims back there?
- 6:24Speaker 6: Marvin, I'm sorry, I think that I think they'd like returned.
- 6:28Speaker 4: You called them Melvin Melvin.
- 6:30Speaker 6: No, it's Melvin, that's all right.
- 6:32Speaker 7: You just I often every year I substitute guys in
- 6:37Speaker 7: the draft. This year for guys I did reports on
- 6:40Speaker 7: in nineteen ninety two.
- 6:41Speaker 3: So yeah, I feel, well, will Mason Mims have more
- 6:45Speaker 3: room to operate now.
- 6:46Speaker 6: That yeah he will?
- 6:50Speaker 7: Uh, Mason Marvin will have a great year as a returner.
- 6:54Speaker 7: But uh, now, you know the Broncos want returns.
- 6:58Speaker 6: You know, he's with the ball in his hands. He
- 7:02Speaker 6: is one of the best in the league. So I
- 7:05Speaker 6: think this will help.
- 7:06Speaker 7: The thirty five is going to be a tough choice
- 7:08Speaker 7: for people just to pound it through the end zone.
- 7:12Speaker 7: So you know, I think this is they want this
- 7:16Speaker 7: formation to work. I think they'd like this to be
- 7:19Speaker 7: the solution long term.
- 7:21Speaker 5: Do you think there's any shot that a veteran running
- 7:23Speaker 5: back still ends up on this roster? I know George
- 7:25Speaker 5: Peyton talked about Hey, he basically said, we're going to
- 7:28Speaker 5: get some sort of running back in the draft. But well,
- 7:31Speaker 5: like James Cook is now kind of like being floated
- 7:35Speaker 5: out there from Buffalo.
- 7:36Speaker 4: I mean, is there anybody who think that would be
- 7:39Speaker 4: on the radar?
- 7:41Speaker 6: Well?
- 7:41Speaker 7: I think when I think Sean Payton showed his hand
- 7:44Speaker 7: a little bit when he called it thin or scarce,
- 7:48Speaker 7: I think he used both words at some point. So yeah,
- 7:52Speaker 7: I don't think they looked at this free agent class
- 7:54Speaker 7: of backs as one full of solutions for them. And
- 7:58Speaker 7: I you know again, I think some of it is,
- 8:02Speaker 7: you know, what do they really think of estimate? You know,
- 8:05Speaker 7: where does estimate start when they open the offseason program
- 8:09Speaker 7: April nineteenth, Where does estimate fit in their minds? Yeah,
- 8:13Speaker 7: because they've they've done nothing but give conflicting reports on that.
- 8:19Speaker 7: So if they feel good about them, that that changes everything.
- 8:23Speaker 7: Because then if you take one in the draft and
- 8:28Speaker 7: rounds one through five, it's hard for me to believe
- 8:32Speaker 7: a running back would not be among the highest graded
- 8:35Speaker 7: players on your board. And this draft that It's been
- 8:39Speaker 7: quite a long time since I've seen this much middle
- 8:43Speaker 7: round depth, especially of guys who I think will be
- 8:46Speaker 7: pro productive running backs, What.
- 8:50Speaker 2: Would you place?
- 8:51Speaker 3: What what odds would you give the Broncos spending number
- 8:54Speaker 3: twenty on a running back?
- 8:57Speaker 7: In my mind, Genti's the only back in the first
- 9:01Speaker 7: round worthy of that pick. But and I don't think
- 9:06Speaker 7: he's at twenty. I don't think you're going to get
- 9:08Speaker 7: a look at him. And now if you got to
- 9:09Speaker 7: look at him at twenty, that's run the card up.
- 9:12Speaker 3: How much would it cost if you had to move
- 9:14Speaker 3: up to say like fourteen, all right, how much would
- 9:17Speaker 3: it cost for the Broncos to.
- 9:18Speaker 6: Do that in this draft?
- 9:21Speaker 7: I think it would cost more because again, you're looking
- 9:22Speaker 7: at first round grades that there aren't.
- 9:25Speaker 6: Okay, this is not a deep first round.
- 9:27Speaker 7: So if you surrender, if you surrender fourteen, you're basically
- 9:31Speaker 7: saying I don't want to pick in the first round.
- 9:33Speaker 7: In some ways, if the board falls a certain way,
- 9:38Speaker 7: that's what I mean. It could get nutty because teams
- 9:41Speaker 7: at sixteen or seventeen, if the draft goes a certain way,
- 9:46Speaker 7: they might not have any players left with first round grades.
- 9:50Speaker 7: You know, maybe they agree with the rest of the
- 9:53Speaker 7: league that that you know this year what it looks like.
- 9:56Speaker 6: So that's you know, the.
- 9:58Speaker 7: Broncos aren't really gonna know have a good feel for
- 10:02Speaker 7: what they're looking at until you know, picks twelve, thirteen,
- 10:06Speaker 7: fourteen start rolling off the board and then they see
- 10:10Speaker 7: what they have left and where they want to go
- 10:12Speaker 7: with that one.
- 10:14Speaker 5: I know this isn't your top one hundred, but just
- 10:17Speaker 5: a basic question on how the draft typically goes. And look,
- 10:21Speaker 5: if you're in the Broncos position, I would love to
- 10:24Speaker 5: have as many positions. You don't need flying off.
- 10:26Speaker 4: The board just to have guys drop to you true
- 10:29Speaker 4: or false.
- 10:30Speaker 5: Three quarterbacks will be off the board by the time
- 10:32Speaker 5: the Broncos pick at twenty.
- 10:36Speaker 7: Grade Wise, i'd say it should be false. But we
- 10:42Speaker 7: see over and over again every year that I never
- 10:45Speaker 7: thought i'd see a six quarterback first round either, and
- 10:48Speaker 7: you know we just saw that last year.
- 10:51Speaker 6: So hard for me to believe.
- 10:54Speaker 7: You know, maybe it's like when Baltimore took Lamar and
- 10:57Speaker 7: they traded back into the first round, took Lamar thirty
- 11:00Speaker 7: to you know, maybe down in there somewhere, you know,
- 11:02Speaker 7: it's I don't have a good sense of what people
- 11:05Speaker 7: really feel about Jackson.
- 11:06Speaker 4: Dark, right, That's that's the question.
- 11:08Speaker 7: Yeah, because I mean people are mocking them now, you know,
- 11:11Speaker 7: all over the place. But when I talk to you know,
- 11:14Speaker 7: the actual football people, I don't get a sense that
- 11:18Speaker 7: they're as fired up. You know too, that that's that
- 11:23Speaker 7: he's a top ten pick or a top twelve pick.
- 11:25Speaker 7: But you know, people are so quarterback desperate right now.
- 11:30Speaker 7: Nothing would shock me, you know, about where the quarterbacks
- 11:34Speaker 7: go in any draft anymore. I've sort of given up
- 11:37Speaker 7: being surprised because again, it's if you get it right,
- 11:42Speaker 7: it changes everything, and the lure of it is.
- 11:46Speaker 6: Just too strong for some teams to avoid.
- 11:48Speaker 7: And you've got team owners in the equation, and team
- 11:53Speaker 7: owners love splash, and that they don't always consider is
- 11:56Speaker 7: this really the right move? You know, analytically, they don't care.
- 12:00Speaker 7: You know, give me the splash, give me the quarterback,
- 12:03Speaker 7: let's go.
- 12:05Speaker 2: Why is it taking so long for Aaron Rodgers and
- 12:08Speaker 2: Steelers to tie them out here? But what's what's holding
- 12:11Speaker 2: this up? What what dark room is he in?
- 12:13Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 12:14Speaker 7: No, I think I keep being told by people in
- 12:16Speaker 7: the league this is totally an Aaron Rodgers thing, you know.
- 12:21Speaker 7: And the Steelers are willing to to wait, you know,
- 12:24Speaker 7: They've always been a patient organization in this way. Even
- 12:29Speaker 7: you know, some would say slow to sign their own
- 12:31Speaker 7: guys even but they won't. They won't come off their number.
- 12:39Speaker 7: If this, if that, if this is what that's all about,
- 12:42Speaker 7: that he wants a different number than you know, I
- 12:47Speaker 7: covered them thirty some years ago, but not much has changed.
- 12:50Speaker 7: They they will not budge very far on their number
- 12:54Speaker 7: and what they think it's worth.
- 12:56Speaker 2: So Mason Rudolph as it is.
- 12:58Speaker 7: If they don't get that number, well you know it's
- 13:01Speaker 7: and again maybe maybe they take one on draft day.
- 13:05Speaker 6: Yeah, that's the thing.
- 13:06Speaker 2: You know.
- 13:06Speaker 7: That's again they're willing to to be patient and play
- 13:13Speaker 7: all the angles.
- 13:15Speaker 6: But that's you can tell. That's an organization that you know,
- 13:19Speaker 6: the coach.
- 13:19Speaker 7: Has been there a long time and the front office
- 13:23Speaker 7: has been in place a long time. They don't they're
- 13:26Speaker 7: not jumping around and impulsive, even when people say it
- 13:29Speaker 7: maybe this year they should be a little impulsive, but
- 13:32Speaker 7: they're not.
- 13:33Speaker 6: That's just not how they do things.
- 13:36Speaker 5: Last thing for you, Legi, as I keep hearing things
- 13:39Speaker 5: about your door, there was a video of him that
- 13:41Speaker 5: was basically saying, yeah, New York's gonna pick me. I
- 13:45Speaker 5: don't know what is worst case scenario for him, Like,
- 13:47Speaker 5: what do you think is the farthest that he could drop.
- 13:52Speaker 6: Well, I'm not.
- 13:54Speaker 7: For a player. I'm not sure New York is great
- 13:56Speaker 7: for him. He's gonna have to play right away. He's
- 13:58Speaker 7: got a coach in trouble, GM in trouble. I mean,
- 14:02Speaker 7: that's not a great spot to go to for your developmental.
- 14:07Speaker 6: Life.
- 14:08Speaker 5: Now.
- 14:09Speaker 7: Brian Daball has been given plenty of credit for fixing
- 14:12Speaker 7: Josh Allen, you know, from taking Josh Allen from pretty
- 14:17Speaker 7: good prospect to you know, franchise quarterback.
- 14:21Speaker 6: Dave Ball did a lot of that, so he can
- 14:23Speaker 6: coach quarterbacks.
- 14:25Speaker 7: But I don't like when young quarterbacks get tossed into
- 14:29Speaker 7: the terrible team, shaky infrastructure situation and then we wonder
- 14:35Speaker 7: why they don't succeed. But you know, I think for Shador,
- 14:39Speaker 7: if you drop, it's actually you know, it's not good
- 14:43Speaker 7: for your wallet initially, but it's better.
- 14:45Speaker 6: You're going to a better team. Your chances of being
- 14:49Speaker 6: in a better situation are greater.
- 14:51Speaker 7: So you know, like when Ben Roethlisberger was drafted by
- 14:55Speaker 7: the Steelers, you know, he probably was upset he wasn't
- 14:58Speaker 7: taken sooner, but he went to a better team. You know,
- 15:02Speaker 7: Aaron Rodgers going to the Packers, Lamar Jackson going to
- 15:06Speaker 7: the Ravens. We you know, there's case after case of
- 15:10Speaker 7: your chances of succeeding are better. But you know, in
- 15:15Speaker 7: the world of you know, you're you're number one, your
- 15:18Speaker 7: number you know, whatever it's it can be hard for
- 15:21Speaker 7: guys to digest when they're nervous, you know, they.
- 15:25Speaker 6: They just want to pick that. They just want it
- 15:27Speaker 6: to be over with. You would have been thinking about it.
- 15:29Speaker 7: For months, you know, every day they're hearing you're rising,
- 15:33Speaker 7: your falling, you stink, you're great.
- 15:35Speaker 6: You know, they just want it to be over with.
- 15:37Speaker 6: So that's the hard part is the actual day of
- 15:40Speaker 6: the draft. But I don't think he falls too far.
- 15:43Speaker 6: You know, it's the it's just a matter of people
- 15:48Speaker 6: meeting him and deciding, you know, how you play. Is
- 15:51Speaker 6: that a decision in that moment?
- 15:53Speaker 7: Are these bad habits we're going to have to correct?
- 15:56Speaker 7: And I think he's tried very hard to show people
- 16:00Speaker 7: these were decisions I made in the moment, and I
- 16:03Speaker 7: understand I can't make these decisions in the NFL. He's
- 16:06Speaker 7: been very, very, very you know, aggressive in telling teams.
- 16:12Speaker 7: He understands the difference.
- 16:14Speaker 2: Hey, leg you over your left shoulder. How many damn
- 16:16Speaker 2: magnets do you have on your refrigerator anyway?
- 16:20Speaker 6: I like a lot of magnets. You know, you gotta
- 16:21Speaker 6: get the stuff up there.
- 16:24Speaker 3: I will send you my wife's real estate a Rocky
- 16:27Speaker 3: schedule magnet. That's okay, that's about a index card size.
- 16:31Speaker 3: I'll send you five of these next time you're on air.
- 16:34Speaker 2: Have these dorned on.
- 16:35Speaker 6: The side of your fridge? Yes, just just cover up
- 16:39Speaker 6: my stuff? Yeah?
- 16:40Speaker 7: Can I ask you a question, Vick, I'm not gonna
- 16:42Speaker 7: I'm not gonna be an excellent client, though she should
- 16:44Speaker 7: know this.
- 16:45Speaker 4: Can I ask you a question about that magnet?
- 16:47Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 16:48Speaker 4: Is that the size of a fridge? What is that hanging?
- 16:51Speaker 4: It looks like it's like gonna cover the whole thing.
- 16:54Speaker 3: That's that's the Rocky schedule.
- 16:56Speaker 6: That's an aggressive That's an aggressive approach right there.
- 16:59Speaker 4: That is aggressive. Yeah, well you need to see the schedule.
- 17:03Speaker 2: I mean, well, how big you want.
- 17:04Speaker 6: It to be? I'll tell you what.
- 17:05Speaker 4: How don't we just wrap your entire fridge in the
- 17:08Speaker 4: Rockies schedule?
- 17:08Speaker 6: How will we just put a rapt h special time here?
- 17:13Speaker 5: Jeff always appreciate the time, buddy. We'll talk sooner, and
- 17:15Speaker 5: I'm getting I'm getting a number next week. Whether you
- 17:18Speaker 5: like it or not, I'm getting one.
- 17:19Speaker 6: Well you know, ultimately the decision of if you get
- 17:22Speaker 6: a name or not is mine. So have a good day,
- 17:27Speaker 6: all right, all right.
