- 0:02Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations
- 0:06rooted in scripture and relevant for.
- 0:07Today, May 17th, life made for a purpose.
- 0:14There are moments when life just feels random, like things happen
- 0:17to you without reason, without order, without anyone really
- 0:20steering the ship. A friendship ends out of
- 0:23nowhere, a plan falls apart. You work hard and it doesn't
- 0:27seem to make a difference. And in those moments, it's
- 0:30tempting to wonder, does any of this actually mean anything?
- 0:35Does my life have a point? Proverbs chapter 16, verse 4
- 0:39speaks into that exact question. The Lord has made everything for
- 0:43its purpose, even the wicked for the day of trouble.
- 0:46That's a striking verse because it doesn't just say the good
- 0:50things have purpose. It says everything does, even
- 0:54the difficult things, even the things that don't make sense to
- 0:57you right now. God is not improvising.
- 1:00He is not scrambling to fix a story that went sideways.
- 1:04He is sovereignly, intentionally, purposefully
- 1:06working in all of it. That doesn't make hard things
- 1:09easy, but it does mean they're not meaningless.
- 1:13Psalm 55, verse 23. Add something deeply personal to
- 1:17that truth. Cast your burden on the Lord,
- 1:19and He will sustain you. He will never permit the
- 1:22righteous to be moved. The word cast is active.
- 1:26It's deliberate. It's not a passive hope that
- 1:29maybe God will notice your burden.
- 1:31It's an intentional handing over.
- 1:33You pick up what's weighing you down and you throw it on to him.
- 1:37And the promise is that he will sustain you.
- 1:40He will hold you up. He will not let you be
- 1:42permanently shaken. This is such a relevant word for
- 1:46where a lot of young people find themselves anxious about the
- 1:50future, exhausted by pressures that never seem to let up,
- 1:54hurting over things they don't have words for.
- 1:58God is saying you don't have to carry that alone, give it to me
- 2:01and I will keep you standing. Then Second Corinthians chapter
- 2:055, verse 18 unfolds your calling in the most beautiful way.
- 2:10All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to
- 2:14Himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation.
- 2:18You have been given a ministry, a purpose, not just a general
- 2:23sense of meaning, but a specific calling to be someone who brings
- 2:26God's love and restoration into broken spaces.
- 2:30Your school, your home, your friend group, your community.
- 2:33These are your mission field. Think about what that means
- 2:36practically. The friend who's going through
- 2:39something hard and needs someone to just show up.
- 2:42The classmate who feels like an outsider.
- 2:45The family member who's been difficult to love lately.
- 2:48Those are not inconveniences in your story.
- 2:51There are opportunities to live out the very reason God placed
- 2:54you where you are. And here's the thing about your
- 2:58struggles. They don't disqualify you from
- 3:00that mission. They actually prepare you for
- 3:02it. Because the people around you
- 3:04don't need someone who has it all together.
- 3:07They need someone who has walked through hard things and still
- 3:10chose to trust God. Someone who can say, I've been
- 3:13there and here's what got me through.
- 3:15Your life has meaning. Your pain has purpose, and God
- 3:20wants to use both to make a difference in the world around
- 3:22you. Let's pray.
- 3:25Heavenly Father, thank you for the reminder that nothing in my
- 3:28life is wasted, Not the good parts and not the hard parts.
- 3:33Help me to cast my burdens onto You instead of carrying them
- 3:36alone, and to trust that You are sustaining me even when I can't
- 3:39feel it. Show me how to walk in the
- 3:42calling You've given me, to be a messenger of Your love and
- 3:45reconciliation in every space I occupy.
- 3:48Use my life, all of it for your purpose, in Jesus name, Amen.
- 3:53What if the battles hitting your family are not random and your
- 3:57home can become a place where darkness loses every right to

- 4:57Now I invite you to spend time with God in today's three-year
- 5:00Bible reading plan. Proverbs Chapter 16 Verse 4
- 5:05World English Bible Yahweh has made everything for its own end,
- 5:09yes, even the wicked for the day of evil.
- 5:12Psalm Chapter 55 World English Bible Listen to my prayer God,
- 5:18don't hide yourself from my supplication.
- 5:21Attend to me and answer me. I am restless in my complaint
- 5:25and moan because of the voice of the enemy, because of the
- 5:28oppression of the wicked, for they bring suffering on me in
- 5:32anger. They hold a grudge against me.
- 5:34My heart is severely pained within me.
- 5:36The terrors of death have fallen on me.
- 5:39Fearfulness and trembling have come on me.
- 5:42Horror has overwhelmed me. I said, Oh, that I had wings
- 5:45like a dove. Then I would fly away and be at
- 5:48rest. Behold, then I would wander far
- 5:50off. I would lodge in the wilderness.
- 5:54I would hurry to a shelter from the stormy wind and storm.
- 5:57Confuse them, Lord, and confound their language, for I have seen
- 6:01violence and strife in the city. Day and night they prowl around
- 6:06on its walls. Malice and abuse are also within
- 6:09her. Destructive forces are within
- 6:11her. Threats and lies don't depart
- 6:13from her streets. For it was not an enemy who
- 6:16insulted me then I could have endured it.
- 6:19Neither was it he who hated me, who raised himself up against
- 6:22me. Then I would have hidden myself
- 6:24from him. But it was you, a man like me,
- 6:28my companion and my familiar friend.
- 6:30We took sweet fellowship together.
- 6:32We walked in God's house with company.
- 6:34Let death come suddenly on them. Let them go down alive into
- 6:38Sheol, for wickedness is among them in their dwelling.
- 6:42As for me, I will call on God. Yahweh will save me evening,
- 6:46morning, and at noon. I will cry out in distress.
- 6:50He will hear my voice. He has redeemed my soul in peace
- 6:53from the battle that was against me.
- 6:55Although there are many who oppose me, God who is enthroned
- 6:59forever will hear and answer them.
- 7:02They never change who don't fear God.
- 7:04He raises his hands against his friends.
- 7:06He has violated his covenant. His mouth was smooth as butter,
- 7:10but his heart was war. His words were softer than oil,
- 7:14yet they were drawn swords. Cast your burden on Yahweh, and
- 7:18He will sustain you. He will never allow the
- 7:20righteous to be moved, but you. God will bring them down into
- 7:24the pit of destruction. Bloodthirsty and deceitful men
- 7:28shall not live out half their days.
- 7:30But I will trust in you. Second Corinthians Chapter 5
- 7:34World English Bible. For we know that if the earthly
- 7:37House of our tent is dissolved, we have a building from God, a
- 7:41house not made with hands eternal in the heavens.
- 7:45For most certainly in this we groan, longing to be clothed
- 7:49with our habitation, which is from heaven, if indeed being
- 7:52clothed, we will not be found naked.
- 7:55For indeed we who are in this tent do groan, being burdened,
- 7:59not that we desire to be unclothed, but that we desire to
- 8:02be clothed, that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life.
- 8:07Now he who made us for this very thing is God, who also gave to
- 8:11us the down payment of the Spirit.
- 8:13Therefore we are always confident and know that while we
- 8:16are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord.
- 8:19For we walk by faith, not by sight.
- 8:23We are courageous, I say, and are willing rather to be absent
- 8:26from the body, and to be at home with the Lord.
- 8:29Therefore also we make it our aim, whether at home or absent,
- 8:32to be well pleasing to Him. For we must all be revealed
- 8:36before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may
- 8:39receive the things in the body according to what he has done,
- 8:42whether good or bad. Knowing therefore the fear of
- 8:46the Lord, we persuade men, but we are revealed to God.
- 8:50And I hope that we are revealed also in your consciences.
- 8:54For we are not commending ourselves to you again, but
- 8:57speak as giving you occasion of boasting on our behalf, that you
- 9:00may have something to answer those who boast in appearance
- 9:03and not in heart. For if we are beside ourselves,
- 9:07it is for God, or if we are of sober mind, it is for you.
- 9:11For the love of Christ constrains us, because we judge
- 9:14thus that one died for all. Therefore all died.
- 9:18He died for all, that those who live should no longer live to
- 9:21themselves, but to Him who for their sakes died and rose again.
- 9:25Therefore we know no one after the flesh from now on.
- 9:29Even though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now we know
- 9:32Him, so no more. Therefore, if anyone is in
- 9:35Christ, He is a new creation. The old things have passed away.
- 9:40Behold, all things have become new, but all things are of God,
- 9:45who reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and gave
- 9:48to us the ministry of reconciliation, namely, that God
- 9:52was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not reckoning
- 9:57to them their trespasses, and having committed to us the word
- 10:00of reconciliation. We are therefore ambassadors on
- 10:04behalf of Christ, as though God were entreating by us.
- 10:07We beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God for him who
- 10:12knew no sin, He made to be sin on our behalf, so that in him we
- 10:16might become the righteousness of God.
