- 0:02podcast. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 0:13We're already. Probably gonna help myself.
- 0:18What did you say? I was gonna say let's have it go
- 0:20but then I I said the actual effing I stopped myself.
- 0:27Thank God he didn't say go. Yeah.
- 0:31God. Welcome.
- 0:33In one and all at the Bangor management, the Fantasy Hockey
- 0:36podcast with Jake, Josh and Kevin, we are recording the day
- 0:39after that insane victory by the Habs.
- 0:43Josh pointed the haves and seven license plate.
- 0:45I I was astonished. OK, first of all, who are you
- 0:49wearing? Like they ask in the button,
- 0:51like the fashion, you know, red carpets.
- 0:53Who are you wearing today? If my girl, my Zuke, I got the
- 0:58captain, I got the captain, the savior.
- 1:02Have the real best goal scorer in the league if you count real
- 1:06grass fed root to the roots. You know, goals.
- 1:08Not including that empty net BS that McKinnon does.
- 1:11Coal Coffield the goat. Little quiet in series #1 but
- 1:16still to go. Very, very quiet.
- 1:17Biting his time, that's. I'm wearing price and I've had
- 1:23this jersey for a while and I had to get it this size because
- 1:27I used to wear it to like actually play so it was over my
- 1:30chest protector. It fits me way too well.
- 1:32Now I just protect loving this gonna say I put it on.
- 1:39I was like, I was gonna be so big.
- 1:40It's, it's a little like, you know, roomy, but it's not that
- 1:44big a little roomy. I'm sure it's shrunk in the wash
- 1:47so. Yeah, hope so.
- 1:49You're basically saying you can't wear when you're going
- 1:52about to suit up to go stop McDavid penalty shots.
- 1:54You wanna? You wanna?
- 1:56That was the whole thing. I don't even have a jersey, so
- 1:58there's no way that we can ever see that.
- 2:01He'll have to wait until he gets a.
- 2:03Shot yeah, that's true. I mean honestly, they could just
- 2:06give me one of their goalies jerseys and actually play for
- 2:08them and then maybe I'll have a. Chance.
- 2:10That's honestly, Yeah, that's true.
- 2:12We're going to be talking about a bit of the tail end of the
- 2:15first round matchups, but also diving into the round two
- 2:18matchups today. Follow us on Spotify album

- 2:31diving into all things Round 2 today, speaking about the
- 2:34craziness that was round one. We we are obviously Habs fans,
- 2:38but I don't think obviously isn't saying that that was one
- 2:41of the most insane game sevens ever.
- 2:43I don't. Think I think it might be the
- 2:45best series I've ever seen. This was the best round one
- 2:48series like that I've witnessed in recent memory.
- 2:52Like I just, yeah. Has there ever been another
- 2:55series decided by one goal in every single way to game?
- 2:58All the way to 7 and every and no team won two games in a row
- 3:02is not we'll get into. That, Yeah, I don't know, I
- 3:06guess I'll say it and then you give your profile.
- 3:07Check, Evan Yeah. But yeah, the series was within
- 3:12two or more goals, meaning it was either tied or you saw this
- 3:16dot or within one goal and it was like that was not the case.
- 3:20Meaning two goal lead minimum for a total of 5 minutes the
- 3:23entire series. That's not.
- 3:26That's up to nothing. And was it game four?
- 3:28We ended up losing that game. That was the one game where a
- 3:30team was leading by two for like 5 minutes at the end of the
- 3:33second period and then Gensel scored before the period ended
- 3:35and then never again was there a two goal lead.
- 3:37It's crazy. Madness.
- 3:39We obviously have a lot to say. Yeah, look at it, Kevin.
- 3:43You go for your preface. Before we get into it, I do need
- 3:45to give a slight profile cache to give everybody an update on
- 3:50the Bangor Management Bracket challenge.
- 3:53A lot of people listen had their Stanley Cup picks get eliminated
- 3:58in round one, me included. I had a Oilers versus Canadians
- 4:02finals and that wasn't terribly wrong.
- 4:05Could not have been any words. I mean it could have been worse
- 4:07technically, but my 2 picks could have been eliminated in
- 4:10round one. But they did it leading the
- 4:13challenge as of right now with 89 points.
- 4:16The only person, let me just confirm, the only person in our
- 4:20challenge that had every pick in round one correct?
- 4:24Wow was Brett bracket name is UK Flyers I believe It's Rich from
- 4:30the discord. She's got Colorado winning it
- 4:34all and he had every pick. He predicted every team to win.
- 4:39The only thing though, his final is Colorado, Buffalo and he has
- 4:43Philly beating Carolina in round two.
- 4:46He's a Flyers fan so a little bit of homerism there and he's
- 4:49also got Anaheim beating Vegas. So that's that would be a crazy
- 4:52final If this bracket ends up being accurate.
- 4:55Listen, kudos. That'll be a major win, but
- 4:58still impressive to get every round one pick.
- 5:01I've never. I've been doing the bracket
- 5:02challenge for as long as I can remember and I've never gotten
- 5:04every round one pick right. Well, that's extremely
- 5:06impressive. It is.
- 5:07And also I I find it's so spicy that you have Buffalo beating
- 5:12Philly in the conference. File.
- 5:13Yeah, yeah. If you're a Philly fan, yeah, at
- 5:16that point, just go all the way. You didn't want to go all the
- 5:18way. You can't.
- 5:19You can't be too much of A homework.
- 5:20It's like they're gonna be Carolina, the Buffaloes, where I
- 5:23draw the line. And then we have a couple of
- 5:27other ups. Reader, fifteens, bracket number
- 5:30one. He's got Carolina winning it
- 5:32all. He's in a close second place
- 5:33right now. His final is ABS Carolina and
- 5:37Carolina taking it. So we got a few good brackets in
- 5:41there. Obviously mine is is already
- 5:43done and dusted. So that was really awful.
- 5:46Jake. I don't, I don't, I don't
- 5:47remember your bracket. I I did make a bracket, it's
- 5:50it's fine. Yeah, he went for Tampa.
- 5:52Boo. Boo.
- 5:54Yeah. There is no way I can.
- 5:56Yeah, there's no way. I actually.
- 6:00Story. So yeah, well, I was gonna say
- 6:02there you go. Office pools is the next big
- 6:04banger management. So for everybody, anger
- 6:06management contest. So everybody that joined, we had
- 6:0945 teams joined. Honestly, funny enough, Rich,
- 6:13who has the best bracket, has the worst office pools team.
- 6:18He he had a a couple of miss miss picks in Montebello as one
- 6:23of his goalies in Blackwood. So he's got 0 goalie starts.
- 6:26These playoffs are off. And he was right, but so, so
- 6:29wrong, yet so. Right, leading the charge still.
- 6:34The last update we made, Blake Creamer was still at the top,
- 6:37creaming and dreaming. He's still at the top with 421
- 6:41points. Here you know.
- 6:44There there's a couple of teams that are all like there's I
- 6:46think 10 teams that are all within 380 and he's at 4:20.
- 6:49So it's like it's still close. And for those who have never
- 6:52played office pools before, like round one, obviously you want
- 6:55basically you want most of your team to survive pretty much a
- 6:58lot of points will be made yourself 3 rounds to go.
- 7:00So if you're stacked on some teams that are going to go far,
- 7:03like you still have a lot of chances to to surpass.
- 7:05Like I'm in 11th place right now, but I'm still pretty
- 7:07confident. I got my HAB stack and my
- 7:09Minnesota stack in full force. So if both of these teams so
- 7:14far, it'll be pretty successful. I saw a lot of people have their
- 7:17Tampa stacks just get eliminated and obviously all the Oiler
- 7:21stacks, but that feels like everybody was on the Oilers.
- 7:24Just depends how. Hard, yeah, it's kind of cancels
- 7:26out. Everyone just takes McDavid and
- 7:27try side automatically. So it just cancels it.
- 7:29And some people go Hyman and Nugent, Hopkins and Ingram, and
- 7:32then they get effed like. Yeah, so you imagine.
- 7:36Just wanted to give a little update there.
- 7:38So if you guys are still competing in those, good luck.
- 7:40Like I said, reminder, if you guys win the bracket challenge
- 7:43or the office pools challenge, you will get a your first month
- 7:46free for the Bangor management Patreon coming into the next
- 7:50year. So that's pretty exciting.
- 7:51Good luck to everybody that's still a competing there.
- 7:54We'll give future updates on the next episodes without.
- 7:56That's pretty fun. I love it.
- 8:00I was going to say for the bracket one actually for some
- 8:02reason, I don't know if anyone else would dealt with this, but
- 8:04the NHL site just would not let me submit a bracket.
- 8:07It kept asking me to log in and then I would log in and then I
- 8:09would put in a bracket and it would say log in again and I got
- 8:11caught in this whole loop. But I do remember exactly all my
- 8:14pics and both my picks to make the finals are still in.
- 8:17Let's just say I had I had Montreal Colorado in the in the
- 8:22finals and had Montreal winning it all.
- 8:23So feeling pretty good. About to get into Montreal.
- 8:27Montreal like talk, but I feel like we're so good at not being
- 8:33too big of homers. Like I feel like we try to, we
- 8:36give a realistic. Take like for stern on horse.
- 8:38So I never. Was so proud of our team but
- 8:42this year I genuinely believe that we had a good chance like
- 8:45looking at the team like if we could get through Tampa, I feel
- 8:47like we could go all the way like beating Colorado in the
- 8:49finals if it gets to that like will be different challenge.
- 8:52But I mean, I don't think we're homers just cause we picked the
- 8:55Habs to to go far right. Like it was a genuine pick, but.
- 8:58They finished sixth in the league like, and if you pick a
- 9:026th league team to go all the way, that's not a Homer pick.
- 9:05I, I have 0 credibility because I picked them to go all the way
- 9:08every single time they make the playoffs.
- 9:10So I'm not gonna, I'm not gonna get on my high actually say that
- 9:12I'm super unbiased, but I do keep, I do avoid the homerism
- 9:16when it comes to fantasy and actually helping people out and
- 9:19stuff like that. But right now, no one doesn't
- 9:21affect anyone what I what I say. So I'm gonna have all the way.
- 9:25There it's homerism, a word there's.
- 9:28No way, don't know makes. A lot of sense in the context
- 9:32like you both said it at this point and I'm like all right and
- 9:35it felt. Natural, so it must be real.
- 9:37Yeah. Yeah, God, if it's not, I think
- 9:39I'm the one who said it first. I usually Kevin's the one who
- 9:42comes up with the. Join the club my.
- 9:44Management Isms Yeah, exactly. But yeah, let's dive into it.
- 9:49I mean, we're just dying to talk about it.
- 9:51So let's get into. We're going to talk about how we
- 9:54got to each second round matchup and then get into the second
- 9:56round matchup. So first let's talk about the
- 9:58Atlantic. Your Montreal Canadiens are
- 10:00going to the second round for the first time since 2021 when
- 10:04we made it to the finals and actually the last time that you
- 10:08know, we got eliminated by Tampa at the end of that run.
- 10:10And now we get to be the ones eliminating Tampa.
- 10:13And I will say that, you know, I feel like maybe it's just like
- 10:17be thinking of certain examples and me feeling like it happens
- 10:20all the time. But I feel like when the team
- 10:22like kind of slays that dragon, they often go on all the way.
- 10:25Like I'm thinking like Washington versus Pittsburgh,
- 10:28right? Every single year they would go
- 10:30up against them and they would get eliminated in the playoffs.
- 10:32The one year they finally beat Pittsburgh is the one year they
- 10:34won the Cup. And that's the only example I
- 10:36have off the top of my head, but it happens all the time, I
- 10:38swear. So solar coop.
- 10:41I was stressed the entire game. The entire series, honestly.
- 10:45There wasn't a single moment in any single game where I felt
- 10:48comfortable with what was going on in that.
- 10:50Game Josh always says like he's he's the guy that like once a
- 10:54team wins he's like, oh, they're never losing it once they lose
- 10:57it like they never winning again and the fact that every game
- 10:59alternating between win and loss, I'm still.
- 11:03Like it was literally like the the guy in the in the dictator,
- 11:08right? You know, just like, how about
- 11:13you? Ohgo brilliant.
- 11:18What do you guys feel like watching that game last night?
- 11:21It was nuts. First of all, I want to say that
- 11:23the last two Stanley Cup winners beat Tampa and Round 1, so.
- 11:28And Fortner wrote four first round exits for Tampa in a row
- 11:31like is the era. Finished zero points in seven
- 11:36game sevens and -2 I think I saw that stat.
- 11:40Points in Game 7. Seven game sevens.
- 11:42There's no minus. 20 points. Wow.
- 11:45Did you just make that up? That's crazy to think.
- 11:48About how much they went deep in the rabbit hole.
- 11:51They've had so much success in recent years.
- 11:53That's that's shocking. First of all, Brandon Hagel is
- 11:57insane. Are you gotta give credit where
- 11:59credit is due? That was the best save I've
- 12:01ever. Seen in my life, God.
- 12:05Coming. I was fuming.
- 12:06I was like, there's no way we're not gonna lose Ed Slab just
- 12:08missed empty net. Yeah, but at least they're like,
- 12:11that was an unbelievable play by Hagel, right?
- 12:13Like, I'm not mad at slot for that.
- 12:14But did you see, like, I don't see anyone talking about the
- 12:15play earlier where Suzuki just completely gave up.
- 12:18Like, do you see like he had the empty net and he was the only
- 12:21person there. And then he like he looked like
- 12:24he might curve into the empty net.
- 12:25So he just stopped skating and then he carved out of the net
- 12:27and he didn't get it in. And I was like, how do you do
- 12:29that as the captain? Like it reminds me of that clip
- 12:31from round one of Quinn Hughes rushing back to get to that, to
- 12:34the empty net. Like is they had that the goalie
- 12:36poles and Dallas like shoots it down the ice and it looks like
- 12:39it's gonna miss the net. And then he's like skating
- 12:41quickly. But then when he sees it's gonna
- 12:43miss the net, he slows down and then it curves and goes in and
- 12:46it's just like you don't stop skating.
- 12:47You go all the way, get it in the net and then you could stop
- 12:49skating. And oh man, look, in the end it
- 12:51didn't matter. But I was so mad and so
- 12:53stressed. And Matheson taking a delay of
- 12:54game penalty with like 6 seconds left, 6.3 really cannot, they
- 12:58could not give us a single moment.
- 13:00Like I was not comfortable with the win until the win was fully
- 13:03until 0 seconds hit the clock. Until the refs leave the ice and
- 13:06then we're going to do anything like.
- 13:07Yeah, exactly. Review the goal from like 10
- 13:10minutes earlier. It's yeah.
- 13:13I also like Dobesh. My God.
- 13:16My God, we're we're getting prime goaltending right in front
- 13:20of our eyes and is honestly been insane to watch.
- 13:23Like maybe Vasilevsky had more shots against that game.
- 13:26He would have been able to like show that he was like going toe
- 13:28with Dobesh. Dobesh just was like phenomenal
- 13:31these playoffs. It's either rookie.
- 13:33Don't forget he's a rookie crazy not supposed to be starting.
- 13:36We had him as like the third goal in the rotation at certain
- 13:39points during the season, right. We were like, it'll be Montemor
- 13:41Fowler, like being the guy that always be the backup no matter
- 13:44who the starter is type of thing.
- 13:45This guy man, like he's he's done so, so much good this year.
- 13:49I'm like genuinely excited for like his career next year and
- 13:52like the rest of the. Scenes are blessed.
- 13:54We were blessed. Like it seems, you know, Carrie
- 13:56Price just retires and now we get our, you know, I mean, it's
- 14:00obviously really early to be saying, you know, our next, but
- 14:02he's been unbelievable. 2 fun stats for you guys from last
- 14:04night. One, that is the fewest shots
- 14:07ever in a playoff win in the history of the NHL ever.
- 14:11I mean, it makes sense. Nine shots to win.
- 14:13To win, hopefully I'll give is pretty nuts.
- 14:15So there was that one. And Dobesh is the 5th rookie
- 14:19goalie in Habs history to ever win a game.
- 14:21Seven in the playoffs. Do you know who the other four
- 14:24are? If I can remember them off top
- 14:25of my head? You guys wanna?
- 14:26Carry price I know your. Door carry price No, not the.
- 14:29Other Ken Dryden. Yeah.
- 14:31Jacques Plant. I think it was, yeah, I think
- 14:35flaunt and. Uh.
- 14:38Rookie gold? I don't remember.
- 14:40No I don't. He just got fired recently.
- 14:43Patrick Wah. Yeah.
- 14:46That's good company, yeah. Yeah, I mean it's.
- 14:49The leader of the elite. Exactly.
- 14:52Anytime you kind of have any sort of record on the Habs,
- 14:55which have been around since 1909, that's pretty impressive.
- 15:00This is amazing all around. What I'm concerned about is I
- 15:05feel like Buffalo had a much easier time with Boston than we
- 15:08did with Tampa. You said this at the beginning
- 15:10around 1, Josh, that your fear is that whoever's going to win
- 15:12this round, yes, they could be the strongest team coming out of
- 15:15the East, but they're going to be so beaten up.
- 15:18And that is my fear. Not necessarily physically
- 15:21beaten up, but just worn down. The fact that you were only able
- 15:24to get 10 shots in Game 7. Is 9 shooting?
- 15:28I mean, yeah. Round out?
- 15:30I don't know, he said. Maybe I'm on an island.
- 15:37I don't see it as that concerning because honestly, I'm
- 15:40glad the path that we had because we could not have been
- 15:42more testing than we were in around the one right.
- 15:44And I think we were already a great team and the fact that we
- 15:48were, I think Tampa was the hardest round one matchup.
- 15:51Like no doubt about it. Like if there was one team you
- 15:53had to choose not to face in round one, it was Tampa.
- 15:55We had them, we beat them. And honestly, like, I don't know
- 16:00if this is gonna be a hot, hot take or what, but I feel we
- 16:02deserve to win like this series, maybe not Game 7, but this
- 16:06series, yeah, the Habs definitely deserved to win.
- 16:09So I'm super proud of the guys. And it kind of feels like, not
- 16:12that we're playing with house money.
- 16:14It feels like we're we were great and we showed we were
- 16:17great and we're moving forward, right?
- 16:18So I feel like we're moving forward from this with more
- 16:21confidence. And if I'm Buffalo, I would be
- 16:23scared because this Habs team that just found a way to win a
- 16:26great, like a gritty series like that against Tampa, where I
- 16:29don't think they were that tested against Boston.
- 16:31I think Boston were frauds the whole year.
- 16:33They've somehow made the playoffs.
- 16:34We were like giving them more credit than they actually
- 16:36deserve. And then the playoffs, they
- 16:37showed their true colours, kind of like they weren't a match for
- 16:40all these other teams that were competing for these playoff
- 16:41spots. So yeah, if I'm Buffalo, I'm a
- 16:44little nervous coming again, I thought.
- 16:47Yeah, teaching this point what I was most worried about was like
- 16:51actual injury. Like I thought it was gonna be a
- 16:53really dirty series. It actually wasn't as dirty as I
- 16:55thought it would be. It.
- 16:57Wasn't I didn't find it to be dirty.
- 17:00I found it was like it was a tough series, you know, like
- 17:02both teams were very physical, but I didn't feel like anyone
- 17:05did anything that I thought was a dirty play.
- 17:07You know, even like some of the big hits.
- 17:09I was like, that was just a good hit like or worst case, it was a
- 17:12penalty, but it wasn't anything crazy that happened that I was
- 17:14like, oh, you're a dirt like like nothing like that.
- 17:16It didn't really seem like anyone was kind of like cheap
- 17:18shotting or trying to injure each other.
- 17:20I thought there was gonna be more of that, to be honest,
- 17:21after seeing the last game of the season that the house played
- 17:23versus Tampa, that game where every single whistle there was a
- 17:26scrum and they, you know, so not to take away from the series, it
- 17:29was super gritty, super physical and awesome.
- 17:31But the fact that, you know, obviously we never know right
- 17:33until the end of the playoffs when they released the list of
- 17:35all the injuries. But it seems like we made out of
- 17:37it pretty unscathed. We actually got Dobson back in
- 17:40Game 7 and he was a huge, he had a really good game.
- 17:44So I'm feeling pretty good about like going into it.
- 17:46And I think I think Buffalo definitely had an easier path.
- 17:49And I think that like, the fact is, I mean, we can talk about
- 17:52Buffalo now like they're how they got there because obviously
- 17:54we talk about the haves all day. But yeah, so they got through
- 17:56Boston, which I agree with Kevin, we kind of none of us
- 17:59believe they were gonna make the playoffs.
- 18:00Nobody believed they would make the playoffs and they probably
- 18:03shouldn't. I think it's more testament of,
- 18:06well, I mean, they had their top guys showed up and it was a lot
- 18:09of their goal was great. Yeah.
- 18:11And I think also just a lot of other Eastern teams kind of
- 18:14pooped the bed on that one and could, if they put in a better
- 18:17effort, they could have passed to Boston there.
- 18:19So I don't think they were like, maybe not.
- 18:21I wouldn't say they didn't deserve to make the playoffs,
- 18:22but they deserve to make it as a wild card team and they deserve
- 18:24to get eliminated in round one by a much stronger team.
- 18:27So I don't think that Zillow had that much adversity.
- 18:29I will say, though, they had to make a goalie change in the
- 18:33middle of that series. And look, obviously, I think we
- 18:35all agree that Alex Lyon was the guy.
- 18:38I know me and Jake do. I don't know where Kevin's been,
- 18:41more of a UPL 6K type of guy. But But I think me and you have
- 18:45been fully on the Alex Lyon train for a while.
- 18:47They were both great. Yeah, for sure.
- 18:49Yeah. Not to take away anything from
- 18:51UPS, but the fact that they had to resort to already switching a
- 18:53goalie in a series that was a relative, you know, easy series
- 18:56for them, or should have been. I mean, it makes me feel like
- 18:59maybe they're not as strong as a as you know, Tampa, for example.
- 19:04Also one other thing and before, because I feel like I've been
- 19:06saying a lot. So I'll pass it off to you guys.
- 19:07But one thing that in my mind, the entire Tampa series with how
- 19:11kind of awful Cofield and Suzuki and Slaf were at 55 and even on
- 19:16the power play after game one, right, they were pretty much
- 19:18invisible the whole series, right?
- 19:20And in my mind, I'm like, if we could survive this series
- 19:23without our first line, there's there's no Anthony Cirelli,
- 19:26there's no John Cooper on on Buffalo, right?
- 19:29Like they don't have the same. You sure they have a meeting
- 19:31defenseman. You know, they they're top 4D is
- 19:33is unreal. But they don't have the same
- 19:36guys who can absolutely shut down a top line like Tampa did.
- 19:38And I just don't trust Buffalo or any other team.
- 19:41Maybe the only other team I could trust to do that is maybe
- 19:43Carolina. So if it comes to that, we can
- 19:45talk about it next round. But I don't trust Buffalo to
- 19:47shut down our top line like Tampa did.
- 19:49So in my mind, I was like, we're like, if we couldn't make it out
- 19:51of this without our top line, they're going to be coming with
- 19:54a vengeance for for this next year.
- 19:56They're going to have way more space on the ice.
- 19:57Maybe not way more, but even just a little more space is all
- 20:00they need. Near that elite of a player, I'm
- 20:02expecting some big things on the top line and if they can't show
- 20:04up then then we have some serious issues to talk about.
- 20:07Yeah, I think it's gonna be a way more high scoring series
- 20:11than the first one like the. Goalies are, I feel like both of
- 20:14them have been on fire. But it's it's like it's still
- 20:17gonna be like, I feel like a lot higher percentage chances and
- 20:20stuff too. It's just gonna be a more
- 20:22offensive game because Buffalo for all intents and purposes,
- 20:26has a deeper offensive team than Tampa.
- 20:30Not as good. The star power is not nearly as
- 20:32strong, obviously, but the way that Josh has put it as accurate
- 20:36and that they have really good shutdown forwards, tab of eight.
- 20:39Cirelli is like an amazing defensive offensive defenseman,
- 20:43no? Defensive, offensive, defensive.
- 20:46Offence that, yeah, that that's not, that's not like the
- 20:49physical. Defensive forward.
- 20:50Shutdown centre. Yeah, yeah.
- 20:52So and then like, yeah, but then you got Benson Norris done on
- 20:57their third line. That's pretty deep.
- 20:59So scared. Yeah.
- 21:02Like, I, I mean, yeah, but Quinn's also been sick.
- 21:06So to be honest, I think, I think I'm, I'm not scared.
- 21:10I think that Montreal is going to beat them, but it's gonna be
- 21:15more of like a, a four, two or five, three type of games.
- 21:20And we did not see that this series at all.
- 21:22So yeah, I'm excited that it's gonna be more entertaining, like
- 21:25from a neutral point of view. And I will say, obviously I want
- 21:28the Habs to win. But if I'm just like a fan, not
- 21:32loyal to any of these teams, like it's pretty hype.
- 21:35Buffalo and Montreal were rebuilding.
- 21:37Like Buffalo was really like down in the dumps for a decade
- 21:42more 2 decades haven't made the. Most people had their finishing
- 21:45800 division this year, and now they're in round two of the
- 21:48playoffs. Yeah.
- 21:49Yeah, exactly. The people.
- 21:52All of us, that is all of us. I forgot to just get in some
- 21:56quick season stats from this, from this matchup.
- 21:58I know we keep talking about it, but Buffalo obviously was the
- 22:01top seed in the Atlantic, Montreal, the third in the
- 22:02season series, they split it to two.
- 22:04So pretty even in terms of top like forwards, in terms of our
- 22:08top players, goals, assists, points have had more in all
- 22:11those categories. Cofield obviously was the second
- 22:13highest goal scorer in the league versus Thompson.
- 22:15Suzuki had the had most assists on the team versus Dalene and
- 22:18then Suzuki had the most points versus Thompson.
- 22:20And then in terms of goaltending, it was pretty,
- 22:22pretty close between, you know, Lion and Dobish terms of power
- 22:27play. Houses were tenth versus
- 22:29Buffalo's 20th. But in terms of penalty kill,
- 22:31Buffalo was fourth versus Habs 19th.
- 22:34This is one of those split the differences on the special
- 22:37teams, in my opinion. Then in terms of injuries, Habs
- 22:39are currently clean now that Dobson's back.
- 22:42So that's a pretty nice spot to be in Buffalo only minor
- 22:44entries. I think Noah Osland and Sam
- 22:46Carrick. I think Austin was actually
- 22:47playing pretty solid for them. So, so it's a type of player
- 22:50that if you're not, if you're, if it's a fan of your, if it's
- 22:52your team, right? And it's like a third liner,
- 22:54you're like, Oh, this is a huge loss.
- 22:56But when you're not like die hard fan of that team and you
- 22:58see from the outside, you're like, oh, who really cares,
- 23:00right? Yep.
- 23:01I mean, my take on this breakdown obviously is that
- 23:04Buffalo is, I feel like the wealth is spread more throughout
- 23:07the top three lines. I think Montreal has the higher
- 23:10end talent, maybe less talent in the depth, but the fact that we
- 23:14were able to be Tampa and like the line was like tech a dog was
- 23:18able to like provide the way it did is super encouraging.
- 23:21Like we're getting production from those guys.
- 23:23Feel like it's just a matter of time the top guys start pulling
- 23:26their own weight and then that's a dangerous thing right there.
- 23:29And also don't forget, Tampa had the third best penalty killing.
- 23:33Buffaloes got the 4th best penalty killed.
- 23:35But we're playing against these teams that have really good, I
- 23:38guess, penalty killer units. And yet I think the Habs power
- 23:41play was still dangerous all the times.
- 23:43It didn't feel like it was a lot less successful in the last
- 23:46games of the series, like the last 2-3 games.
- 23:48It was much harder to get to any space there.
- 23:51But I'm not like intimidated by that.
- 23:53If we could get through Tampa and their penalty, well, I'm
- 23:56like this power play has a lot of good assets that I feel like
- 23:59can get the job done. 100% agree.
- 24:01I think what's going to happen is that not only do they have to
- 24:04shut down our players, we have to shut down theirs.
- 24:06Yep. And now it's really just gonna
- 24:08be like in round one, sick. But my worry around 1 is that we
- 24:14weren't getting offence from our, you know, third and fourth
- 24:19line and our first and second line in the same game.
- 24:22And I think what's going to happen is now you're going to
- 24:24need that. I don't know.
- 24:26I mean, maybe there was because every give us 32, I'm pretty
- 24:30confident in saying this or two one like I don't think there was
- 24:33a game where Suzuki got more than like 2, two or more points
- 24:37and Anderson, Noel Anderson will went up to the top line.
- 24:40So that's not fair to say. I guess our taxi got one point
- 24:43or vice versa. You know what I mean?
- 24:44Like there was none of that. It's like you would get one or
- 24:47the other. I think you're going to need
- 24:49both and I think that you can have.
- 24:51Both. I mean, it would be great to
- 24:53have both, but I don't think you need both.
- 24:55We just saw we didn't need both in this series, right?
- 24:57That's what I'm saying is gonna be a whole different.
- 24:59I think it's just going to be a lot more offence from both of
- 25:01the teams and. I really see it as like, yeah, I
- 25:04see it as the top lines gonna produce more and our bottom
- 25:07lines are gonna produce less. I think it's gonna be more
- 25:10normal. Like quotes hockey from us
- 25:15reason happening Yeah, exactly. It's gonna be the top guys on
- 25:18both teams are gonna score more points and then the bottom guy
- 25:21is gonna be normal. You know, like what you would
- 25:23expect. It was a very.
- 25:24Normal. OK, isn't it?
- 25:26It did it for our series. It was the first line literally
- 25:30did nothing, literally nothing the entire series.
- 25:32We had to rely on Tech, a dog bulldog like those guys.
- 25:36Gallagher comes in and scores a goal.
- 25:38Anderson was a was a big a big part of that.
- 25:41I called it out in the the first playoff episode We did that.
- 25:43He was going to be an important piece in the series.
- 25:45So yeah, I think it's going to be more Yeah, it's gonna be more
- 25:48as as expected. I'm quickly get into our
- 25:50predictions for this one. I had Montreal and six.
- 25:53Kevin had Montreal in six, Jakey add Montreal and six so.
- 25:57We did not consult each other before this so.
- 25:59No, we did not. So it seems like pretty much
- 26:02it's inevitable. Montreal and Six.
- 26:03We've never been wrong about anything in our lives.
- 26:05So now that we agree it's a, it's inevitable.
- 26:07Last thought on this unless you guys want to share more, but I
- 26:10feel like it's going to be a battle of goaltending as well.
- 26:13I think going to see who can come out on top between Dobesh
- 26:16and Alex Lyon. And right now I feel you can't
- 26:19you can't beat against Bush in the form that he's in right now.
- 26:21And like the mentality that he has.
- 26:23Whereas I know Alex Lynn has been on fire and we've seen this
- 26:26throughout his career in recent years.
- 26:27Like when he's on fire, it's hard to stop him.
- 26:29So whichever goal he breaks first, I think is going to give
- 26:33a little chink in the armor that other people can take advantage
- 26:35of. And also I will say maybe this
- 26:38is underrated or or a hot take once again, and maybe it's not a
- 26:41hot take at all, but I'm actually happy that we're
- 26:43starting the series away. Because I feel like after just
- 26:47finishing this series in Tampa and then going to Buffalo with
- 26:50two games at home in Buffalo, it feels like if you steal one of
- 26:52those games, it kind of feels you're playing with house money
- 26:55at that point, right? Whereas if we were in Montreal
- 26:57and let's say we know the emotions and then we lose game
- 27:00one, I'm gonna be like, OK, all that pressure and in Game 2 to,
- 27:05you know, deliver and not go O and two, we can steal the first
- 27:08gamer second game in Buffalo. It feels like we can come back
- 27:11to Montreal and I'd be confident winning both of those games, you
- 27:13know? Yeah.
- 27:15I mean, we did a lot better in Tampa than we did in Montreal so
- 27:17far. We were one and two in Montreal
- 27:18and we were three in one in Tampa.
- 27:20So maybe you'll wait. Just suits us better.
- 27:22You'll see. One more question on this do you
- 27:25think they're going to open the series with Slove, Kofsky,
- 27:27Suzuki, Cofield? That's a great question.
- 27:31I think they are, I think they're going to go back to it.
- 27:33I think they were. They had to adjust to what was
- 27:36going on with Tampa. And I think essentially the way
- 27:39I see it is if San Luis thinks that Buffalo can put together a
- 27:43line that could shut down our top line effectively as Tampa,
- 27:46then he'll split them up because that was the reason he split
- 27:48them up. He's like, we can't have our
- 27:49entire line of top guys all shut down at the same time.
- 27:52Make them focus on two of the three and at least laugh can do
- 27:54something on line 2. And you did.
- 27:55But if you don't, and you did, if you don't think that Buffalo
- 27:58has that same level of shutdown capability as Tampa, which I
- 28:02personally don't think they do, then I'm happy to just load up
- 28:05on the top line and let them do their thing.
- 28:07Yeah, and I also expect Demidov to finally be able to like
- 28:11execute. He's he was not good to start.
- 28:13He was pretty invisible, I thought.
- 28:14And then the last two games he really turned it up, especially
- 28:17the last game, he's just. Like has to finish.
- 28:19Almost there, so close. And yeah, that would be huge for
- 28:23us. He's like a wild card that we
- 28:25haven't seen like Bloom yet. That is just kind of like extra
- 28:28potential for us to get to another level.
- 28:30Do you guys think Jackie gets into the lineup given like I saw
- 28:34people talking about, you know, he's big, he's physical and you
- 28:36know, Buffalo's decor is ginormous, so maybe having that
- 28:41presence would be necessary. But I think our decor last game
- 28:44look really good. It's gonna be between like him
- 28:46and Struble, right? So.
- 28:47I think I think he starts the series and Strubel gets taken
- 28:50out. I think the way I saw the
- 28:52essentially came down to the decision right for game seven.
- 28:54They knew Dobson was coming in. It was one of those two guys
- 28:56going to go. And at that point in the series,
- 28:59I don't think that it was like the series was kind of already
- 29:02set like the tone right of how physical it was going to be.
- 29:05Like I said, I didn't find it to be quite The Dirty series or
- 29:07anything like that. I think they were more focused
- 29:09on the skill aspect of it and they didn't need to focus on
- 29:11that physical aspect as much because we were holding our own.
- 29:13And if not, you know, doing it even better than them.
- 29:16So for that reason, I think it was game seven.
- 29:18They didn't need Jackie, but I like I think they like him or I
- 29:21at least like him in the start of the series to kind of set the
- 29:23tone. Be like, you don't mess with us
- 29:24or else we're going to have, you know, this physical guy who in
- 29:27addition to understand whatever, but like we're going we have
- 29:29someone out here who's going to make you pay for that.
- 29:31So I like starting out the series with him and then once
- 29:34it's kind of settles in, then you can toss in Strubel if you
- 29:36if like Jack makes mistakes or you want him to get some reps or
- 29:39whatever. But I like starting with Jackie.
- 29:40But I guess they will see what they do.
- 29:43I do too. I I think they make stay with
- 29:46Strubel I think, but I like that idea.
- 29:50I hope they do that. I I agree with the jacket.
- 29:53I feel like they're they're not gonna bring Jackie back in.
- 29:55I think it's kind of like if it ain't broke, don't.
- 29:59Fix it type of thing to change the line up after I win for
- 30:01sure. Especially with Jackie, he's not
- 30:02really like the guy that you're bringing into solidifier decor.
- 30:05Like he's there to bring a present.
- 30:06So I feel like they're gonna keep the decor as it was, and
- 30:10then if they see like the stuff is getting out of hand, then you
- 30:12kind of insert him as a response type of thing.
- 30:15Yeah, that's what I think. We'll see.
- 30:17I feel like just pros and cons of both and it just depends on
- 30:19what ends up happening. So yeah, exciting stuff.
- 30:22Exciting. Stuff it's very exciting to be
- 30:25able to talk about the hands in the second round again, so
- 30:28that's great. Let's go on to the next one
- 30:29because again, we can talk about this forever.
- 30:31So let's get into the next series.
- 30:32We have Carolina Hurricanes first in the metro versus
- 30:35Philadelphia Flyers third in the metro.
- 30:37Let's quickly talk about how they both got here.
- 30:39We start with Carolina. They had a pretty easy path
- 30:42here, a nice four O sweep versus Ottawa.
- 30:45I mean we talked about it when we did our last episode.
- 30:48Had they already been swept? Was.
- 30:49I feel like they've been. Out of it they had already.
- 30:51Element yeah so we've already kind of like talked about it a
- 30:55bit, but I feel like they just had a super easy Rd. there
- 30:58Ottawa did not put up much of a fight and also not to take away
- 31:01from Carolina. They were unbelievable some fun
- 31:03stats for you guys from Round 1. Logan Stankovic is tied for the
- 31:07league lead in goals from round one with six, which is not the
- 31:11guy is just clutch. I love players like that.
- 31:13I love players who are not bad because he's a great prospect,
- 31:16right, But he's like a second second line guy and during the
- 31:19regular season doesn't put up anything special points wise.
- 31:21And then just clutch time and this the guy just like pops off.
- 31:24And that's what's so fun about the playoffs.
- 31:26It's such a small sample size that you have a couple of good
- 31:28games in a row and it's very noticeable.
- 31:30So I think it's a great storyline.
- 31:32Another fun one and this one honestly really took me by
- 31:34surprise. I still don't know if I believe
- 31:36it, but Freddie Anderson in round 1.9 goals against average
- 31:40.961 save percentage. Some of that is due to the
- 31:43opponent. I think you have to really, they
- 31:46did not do anything to challenge him.
- 31:48And I I honestly, I thought Carolina, one of their biggest
- 31:52potential weaknesses going into the playoffs is gonna be
- 31:54goaltending, especially Freddie. He had an awful regular season,
- 31:57the end of the regular season, he was solid and that's when he
- 31:59took the net from busy. But he learned during the
- 32:01regular season right up until the last two weeks.
- 32:03Yeah, exactly of the Carolina. The Carolina.
- 32:08The most of the season, anytime he started a game, he was I was
- 32:11never streaming him for back-to-back because he was
- 32:13always putting up a terrible numbers.
- 32:15Carolina let's so few shots against.
- 32:17So when he would let in three goals on 17 shots, it would just
- 32:19tank your stats. So I'm surprised he did so well
- 32:22and I don't think it's going to last, but he did just get a
- 32:24shutout in game one versus Philly.
- 32:26But again, maybe it's the opponent, don't know.
- 32:30I mean, I'm so. Yeah, I, you know, should we say
- 32:35our predictions first? Just do it.
- 32:37Due to Josh, how about you give the breakdown of like the teams,
- 32:41team, though we can give our predictions that we'll talk
- 32:42about it, yeah. OK, I was gonna say also, I
- 32:45haven't talked about how Philly got here, but OK, quickly Philly
- 32:48obviously it was a Game 6 versus Pittsburgh, Battle of
- 32:51Pennsylvania. Philly went up 3 nothing series.
- 32:53Then Pittsburgh came back two games.
- 32:54It looked like they could make it a series.
- 32:56But then Philly Dan Vladar the go, that was a nuts game.
- 32:59Right foot 10IN overtime and what did he make 42 safe?
- 33:03Shut out something. Like that.
- 33:04I think this guy was a backup goalie in Calgary a few years
- 33:07ago is. Just Calgary, Yeah, not a few
- 33:09years ago, I think it was last year.
- 33:10I think this was his first year on Philly.
- 33:12It's it's nuts. And it's, yeah, it's crazy.
- 33:14And Archer Sheilas, you gotta give credit.
- 33:16And do you guys think he's the starter going into next season
- 33:19or you think it's? I think he's a starter.
- 33:21I think also, if the series was like a best of nine, I think
- 33:26Pittsburgh could have really came back and won this.
- 33:29I think they really started playing better after they went
- 33:31down 30. It kind of felt like they
- 33:34started waking up and playing hockey.
- 33:37If they had to redo it that series, I feel like it can go
- 33:39really different, like much different direction.
- 33:41Obviously like a classic. Have a classic copy pasta on the
- 33:45hockey subreddit. It was from when I wanna say
- 33:49Nashville and Chicago faced each other and I forget I think it
- 33:53was Nashville like one of one of them was the big favorite.
- 33:56And this was in 20 teens. And the the there was a big
- 34:00upset, I forget which one versus which.
- 34:02And someone posted, you know, being like no disrespect to
- 34:05whichever team won, but the NHL should have them redo the series
- 34:099 times out of 10, you know, and just becomes like anytime like
- 34:13something like a big upset happens like people post it.
- 34:15So that's what you just said. Reminds me, I mean.
- 34:17It's pretty pretty pretty much the same thing.
- 34:19But I do feel like Pittsburgh was really coming into their own
- 34:21at the end, but a little too late.
- 34:22That's what happens when you don't show up for game 1-2 or
- 34:24three so. Yeah, it's hard to come back.
- 34:27There's a reason it only sapped. How many times does it happened?
- 34:29Five times in the history? Yeah.
- 34:31From three zero, yeah. Yeah, so there's a reason that
- 34:34it's so rare, but. Credit to like this is a team
- 34:36that, first of all, we did not even talk about being in the
- 34:39playoff picture for like weeks leading up to the playoff race
- 34:42because they weren't. They weren't.
- 34:43Yeah, they weren't. They were always like that one
- 34:45team that you made the cut off. It was just like all these three
- 34:47teams are like the cable that 14 Philly not in the convo.
- 34:50Yeah. Exactly.
- 34:52Seriously. And then look at them now,
- 34:53they're round two of the players around.
- 34:55Crazy so. What's the big deal?
- 34:56Yeah, honestly. And with no Mattman Michkov so.
- 35:00Basically I saw him actually. You got tip it injured that's.
- 35:06I know. OK, Yeah.
- 35:07So let's get into this. Really.
- 35:08Tough for. Them, Yeah.
- 35:10Let's get into the breakdown of the stats and then and then you
- 35:12could talk about it. So Carolinas Metro one versus
- 35:15Philly Metro 3 in the season series, Carolina went three and
- 35:18one versus Philly. Carolina's top goal scorer was
- 35:20Jarvis with 32. Philly was tipped with 28.
- 35:23And then Caroline's most assistant points was Aho.
- 35:26And Philly was connect me with 41 and 68 versus a host 53 and
- 35:3080. So Carolina has the edge in all
- 35:32those stats. Goaltending though, big edge to
- 35:35Philly. Dan Feldar way better than
- 35:37Anderson in the regular season. Obviously we said Anderson has
- 35:40been unreal in round one and towards the end of the season,
- 35:42but I still give a big editable bar there.
- 35:44And then special teams are just way in Carolinas favor. 4th
- 35:47power play in the league versus 30 seconds for Philly.
- 35:49So Philly's dead last and then 11th penalty kill versus 21st.
- 35:53That's going to be a big story and an even bigger story.
- 35:55No injuries for Carolina because apparently Nikishin could just
- 35:58get concussed and just bounce back.
- 35:59But but Philly has Owen tipped out for at least the first two
- 36:04games, possibly more. That is a massive velocity.
- 36:07Literally was their top goal scorer in the regular season and
- 36:10had a great round one. So with that, our predictions.
- 36:13It's already 10 Carolina series as we're recording this and
- 36:17we're in the middle of game two last I checked.
- 36:19Is it still 2 on? Philly 2 Philly still, yeah.
- 36:21OK. So we'll see if they if they can
- 36:23tie up the series here. I have Carolina and five, Kevin
- 36:26as Caroline and five and JS Carolina in six.
- 36:28All right. Now to go back to what you're
- 36:30saying. Yeah, it's just it's really bad
- 36:33that he's injured and because he's super important player for
- 36:36them. I will say the thing with
- 36:38looking at the stats is that I mean Philly just got so hot at
- 36:42the end and I'm not surprised at all.
- 36:44There's a huge discrepancy in Carolinas favor, but I don't
- 36:47really think it means like so much, you know what, we're going
- 36:51to get into the Colorado, Minnesota one after and that's
- 36:54where I think like, OK, you know, this is like good teams
- 36:57all season. Obviously the Quinn Hughes
- 36:59acquisition was huge, but staying with this one, Vladar to
- 37:03me could be the difference maker.
- 37:04I'd like to see Philly then, but I will say after seeing as all
- 37:08the intro for the game tonight and seeing how hilarious Seth
- 37:11Jarvis's friends are, like you know what?
- 37:15I wouldn't be mad if there's more of this.
- 37:20So I didn't know where he was probably from Winnipeg, Yeah.
- 37:23Like, these are the most Canadian guys in the world.
- 37:27Just like, they're so funny. They're just like follow him
- 37:30around and go to his games. Yeah, it's literally like.
- 37:32There's a really cool that's that's really hope they do that.
- 37:36But yeah, yeah, look, I do think I, I'm apprehensive to be super
- 37:42confident in Carolina here, but I, I just can't not put them
- 37:46because I think they're a better team.
- 37:48But I, I Philly has something they, they do they I'm not.
- 37:52Obviously Carolina is much stronger than Pittsburgh, but
- 37:56you know, they were still able to win and Vladar is.
- 38:00It's a huge advantage and that's so we'll see.
- 38:04Yeah, I mean, listen, I'm rooting for Philly.
- 38:07Genuinely. I feel like it would be such a
- 38:08good story for them to beat A-Team like Carolina.
- 38:12It's just hard to pick against Carolina when this is their
- 38:14bread and butter. It feels like there's a reason
- 38:16why they always make the Eastern Conference finals with other
- 38:19divisions are set and how the playoff format is.
- 38:22It feels like round one and Round 2 is almost always a game
- 38:25for them because they are an excellent team and their
- 38:28matchups just end up being like super lopsided.
- 38:30So I'm not saying this is as lopsided as in the past, but
- 38:33like on paper, if you were looking like who's the weakest
- 38:35team left in the playoffs, it's probably either Philly or
- 38:38Anaheim on paper, right? So they they get not another,
- 38:42another blessing here. But if they had to pick up the
- 38:45crowd, they probably choose Philly.
- 38:46And I don't know if Philly has it in them to to take down this
- 38:49Carolina team over A7 game series.
- 38:52So it's going to be tough. I think they need to keep doing
- 38:55what he's doing for the rest of the series and I think Anderson
- 38:59can even like falter and they can still win the series.
- 39:02So there's just a lot of stuff going in Carolinas direction
- 39:05that it would take too much going wrong for them to lose
- 39:07this. But listen, I'm rooting for
- 39:09Philly. I hope they win.
- 39:10I hope they can do it. I'm just going to be excited to
- 39:13watch and honestly, hopefully we get a tight series.
- 39:15I just hope it's not like a sweep or like 5 games.
- 39:16Like I put Carolina in five. I hope it goes 7.
- 39:19The one thing I will say in Carolinas favor versus previous
- 39:22years, they they have a strong collection of mediocre to good
- 39:29players that Rod loves that they did not have last year.
- 39:32Yeah. And that that couldn't really go
- 39:34a long way. I mean, Euler's Ellers is like
- 39:38really good. Stankovic is proven to be really
- 39:40good. Taylor Hall when accounts he's
- 39:43there, Jackson Blake. This is what he really gets the
- 39:48most out of these guys. And there feels like there's
- 39:50more of them this year. So there are stronger.
- 39:52I I wouldn't be surprised if they if they went all the way.
- 39:55They have a good enough team, but yeah, I mean, I do think
- 40:00they're gonna win. The Stinkoman won is huge.
- 40:02Like what we're seeing in these playoffs is almost reminiscent
- 40:05of what we saw when, like, Wyatt Johnson broke out in his playoff
- 40:08push with Dallas, right? It kind of feels like very
- 40:10similar where Stinkoman kind of had like that that, that stank
- 40:15on him, you know what I mean? Like, it kind of just felt like
- 40:17he was supposed to be a good player, but we never really gave
- 40:19him any credit or like any attention in fantasy this season
- 40:22either. It kind of just felt like, yeah,
- 40:24he was there and he was, he was there, and that was it, right?
- 40:27But now I feel we're all gonna have to take him seriously.
- 40:29Nobody saw us coming except Blake Creamer apparently.
- 40:31So another game to Blake like he was on it and think of it is
- 40:37probably the best player to series it feels like.
- 40:40For sure, I mean, in terms of like fantasy for next year, I'm
- 40:42still not that interested unless he has he can crack power play
- 40:451. And also since it's a raw team,
- 40:48even if he's on power, play one in practice lines going into the
- 40:50season. Yeah, it's not going to last the
- 40:54whole season and I'm not willing to spend draft capital on him.
- 40:57One thing that was nice this year was that he was playing
- 40:59centre for with winger eligibility.
- 41:00So face off win leagues there gives you some more reason to
- 41:02hold on to a guy like that. But yeah, in the playoffs at
- 41:05least he's been super clutch. And look to all, you know, I've
- 41:09I've been meeting a lot of people playing some like hockey
- 41:12and stuff around here. Whatever everyone's Flyers fans.
- 41:14I'm I'm willing to make the Flyers my my second team because
- 41:17now that I live right near here, that makes sense.
- 41:19You know, I, I've I have nothing against them.
- 41:21I actually like the direction the team is going, like a lot of
- 41:23their young guys, so I'm happy to make my second.
- 41:25So let me just get this out of the way.
- 41:26I'm fully rooting for the Flyers and I want them to win.
- 41:28And yes, we all are rooting for the Flyers.
- 41:31I I felt like I had to put Carolina.
- 41:33The same reason Kevin and Jackie said it just feels the reason
- 41:37that so many people had Ottawa as one of their dark horse teams
- 41:41was because we had mentioned this.
- 41:42I feel like Caroline is just very just not boring, but just
- 41:46steady and name name like beach and all that stuff.
- 41:50We're just because they don't have any.
- 41:52They have star players, but Rod doesn't let them shine.
- 41:55Like their top points guy this year was Sebastian Aho with 80
- 41:57points. That's as if in a full season,
- 42:00that's under a point per game for your best point guy on your
- 42:03entire team, right? Their top goal scorer was set
- 42:05drivers with 30. Two goals, Yeah, 32 Slowsky got,
- 42:09you know, like Sakowski got like 30, two goals this year.
- 42:11Not to take away from Slough, but like he's still breaking
- 42:14out, becoming a player and he's like the 4th best offence on our
- 42:16team, right, points wise, obviously brings a lot us to the
- 42:19game. But anyways, all that to say,
- 42:20they don't have the flashy names, They don't have the
- 42:22flashy team because they've been around for so long.
- 42:25They play such suffocating hockey where their goalies get
- 42:28terrible stats. Also because they let so few
- 42:30shots against that it just leads to people underestimating them.
- 42:34But at the end of the day, they won the conference easily.
- 42:37Yeah, they easily won the conference.
- 42:40They swept the first round. They've been in the conference
- 42:42finals for it's three or four straight years at this point
- 42:45Yes, they keep losing in the conference finals and
- 42:47embarrassing fashion, but they keep losing the Stanley Cup
- 42:49champion right. Everyone lost the Florida.
- 42:52It's not it doesn't mean you're a bad team because you lost the
- 42:54two time Stanley Cup champs twice.
- 42:55Edmonton wasn't a bad team last two years.
- 42:57So I just think that it's too hard to go against Carolina
- 43:00again. I'm hoping for the best upsets
- 43:02happen all the time, but it's a we gotta go predict with what we
- 43:06think makes the most sense. So even though my heart wants
- 43:08Maya, my mind's telling me Carolina.
- 43:11Last thing though, I'm on the bandwagon of the Philly mascot.
- 43:15I'm seeing all the memes. I didn't do my research.
- 43:18I don't know what his name is, but every time I see the
- 43:19pictures that make me laugh, I'm like, he's got something going
- 43:22there. I'm bored.
- 43:23You don't remember this from like 8-9 or no, it was, it's
- 43:27like 7-8 years ago when he was like introduced and he was like
- 43:31a. Huge eyes man, they get you.
- 43:33Yeah, and he owns it. He does like a bunch of crazy
- 43:38stuff. He did you see him throw that
- 43:40Penguin like in round one off like 30 rows of so he's crazy.
- 43:46When I went to the game in Philly, he was after they won,
- 43:49they just click the game. They clinched the playoffs and I
- 43:52walk out of the out of the the suite or whatever and he's right
- 43:55there and he's like banging this drum and just going nuts and
- 43:58getting one riled up. Actually got a gritty key chain
- 44:00for my keys. I'm pretty yeah.
- 44:02He's he's dope. If you guys had to pick like
- 44:05what's Phillies win condition to be have a chance of winning this
- 44:08series? Called standing.
- 44:09In my opinion, it's called ending.
- 44:11But I mean, Carolinas got like good goaltending and a good
- 44:14defensive system like. I don't trust.
- 44:17I know they've been getting good goal.
- 44:18Team they they've like I am always of the if a goalie let's
- 44:24in two or less goals than you know, you're giving your team a
- 44:28chance to win. But the fact is like, I mean,
- 44:32I'm sure Freddie has like the. Least you could put Tristan
- 44:34Jarry on the Hurricanes and I think he would be.
- 44:37He would be solid. Search in the past, we were
- 44:40like, Oh my God, he's so sick. And then he went to another team
- 44:42and he was like, this guys do do.
- 44:44I yeah, that's the opposite of the Oilers.
- 44:47Oilers get a goalie even it not that they go and get good
- 44:49goalies, but if they did, they still would become a lot worse,
- 44:52right? Whereas Carolina can get any
- 44:54they not no shade to Brandon Bussey, but who was this guy?
- 44:57He was a waiver pickup. All of a sudden he becomes the
- 44:59fantasy pickup of the year. And Jake, he's laughing all the
- 45:02way to the file. You know, like it's it's they
- 45:04they just have a great system. They have a great coach.
- 45:06They have Jacob Slavin, arguably the best defensive defenseman in
- 45:09the league. So So yeah, I don't, I don't put
- 45:11any stock in OK, not no stock. He was really, really good his
- 45:14first round stats and towards the end of the season.
- 45:17But I don't think Freddy's that guy anymore.
- 45:19Maybe earlier in his career, but not he's not that guy.
- 45:21Pell So if you think radar. So you think Radar if he lets in
- 45:24only two goals every game, Philly wins the series?
- 45:28Yeah. I think so, yeah.
- 45:30I think so. Also if tip it comes back,
- 45:32that's absolutely. Massive for sure he's.
- 45:33Like they they. Need for important.
- 45:36I don't think they could win if he doesn't.
- 45:38That's yeah, it's. Tough but look if they win, if
- 45:41they go home with the series tied 11I W, it's huge so and
- 45:47they're. Waiting if they go down, if they
- 45:49head back home, down to nothing. I think it's pretty much over
- 45:51though. Yeah, I mean a lot riding on
- 45:54this third period then. Absolutely.
- 45:57All right, let's go to the Western Conference, starting
- 46:01with the Colorado Avalanche versus Minnesota Wild.
- 46:03I know we just want to talk about the game last night.
- 46:06It was insane. But let's talk about how we got
- 46:07here real quick. Colorado with an easy sweep on
- 46:10LA. We already talked about it.
- 46:12LA it, you know, we were you talked about Boston not
- 46:15deserving to be in the playoffs. LA did not deserve to be in the
- 46:17playoffs. Yeah.
- 46:18So not much to see there. It was a pretty easy, you know,
- 46:21no harm done. Nothing, nothing exciting there
- 46:24other than Kopitar retiring. Then Minnesota versus Dallas did
- 46:28not even make it to game seven. Only game six.
- 46:30They actually made Dallas look pretty bad.
- 46:33Dallas scored. What was it?
- 46:35There was a stat that they went I think 200 and something
- 46:38minutes without a 5E five goal during that series.
- 46:40Then they had. One their power was nuts though.
- 46:4355 golden ones I think in the last game of the series so.
- 46:46Yeah, Maverick Pork goat. Jake is chosen 1.
- 46:50Yeah, it's crazy because their power play was insane.
- 46:53It was going like 50%. They were scoring every every
- 46:56second power play, but it wasn't enough when you can't score
- 46:58anything 5 E 5 and it's just nuts because going into the
- 47:02series, look, the series still want to six right.
- 47:03So clearly they were still pretty evenly matched.
- 47:06But it definitely felt towards the end.
- 47:07The series like Minnesota was by far the better in the drivers
- 47:10seat by far, but they were in the driver seat and the stronger
- 47:13team and it's just crazy because Dallas is always one of those
- 47:16contenders. They have such a bright future
- 47:17still, right? All their guys are locked up for
- 47:19long term good contracts other than we'll see what happens with
- 47:21Robertson. But this Minnesota, that Quinn
- 47:23Hughes acquisition, it's just working out really well for them
- 47:27right now. They look really sick.
- 47:28So that's what brought us here to Colorado, Minnesota.
- 47:32What do you think went wrong for Dallas though, Because we have a
- 47:34lot of Dallas fans of the discord, you know, they were
- 47:36popular team for for Stanley Cup that we saw what they done in
- 47:40recent years, like they've just been one of those teams that is
- 47:42always a strong competitor, right?
- 47:44And this year felt like they had the best thing that they've had
- 47:46in recent years. What went wrong?
- 47:49I really hope this doesn't lose his followers and let me hear
- 47:51that. I love all of you guys.
- 47:53We really appreciate the support.
- 47:55As I say at. The Cameron Jodari.
- 47:57Shout out yes, but imagine they had stank open right now.
- 48:01Yeah. Maybe would have been better
- 48:05than Ranson, and who knows? All.
- 48:07I mean, he was a lot better, yeah, but they also were playing
- 48:11Ottawa, so. I I actually just, I'm just
- 48:15starting to believe that odd injure is really not that good.
- 48:19You would say this and, and I don't know, I feel like he's
- 48:23still pretty good. He was really solid until he
- 48:26wasn't for for like this in the series he had some really good
- 48:29game. He started off with a weak game,
- 48:31then came back with like 2 really strong games and then
- 48:34they lost the next like 3. And, and Minnesota is a good
- 48:39team, so great. I I just, yeah, they're, they're
- 48:42really, really solid. I mean, even before the Queen's
- 48:46acquisition, we thought they could be like a four.
- 48:48So now they're, they're elite. Dallas on the other hand, if
- 48:53it's not, I'm never gonna blame a series on a goalie.
- 48:56Allah, Pete Tabor. But like it's, it's one of those
- 49:01things that he you could that could be a difference maker and
- 49:05they were just getting better goals.
- 49:06That you can't blame the goalie when they can't score 5.
- 49:09Goals, that's the only thing. If they were actually producing
- 49:11the offence that we expect from them and they lost, then I'd be
- 49:13like, I get what you're saying because Halstead was nuts,
- 49:15right? It was definitely a difference
- 49:17maker in that series And Andre, he stole.
- 49:19I'm not stole them, but he won them those two games, but he
- 49:22also lost at least two of those games.
- 49:24So I would agree. But the number 55 scoring for
- 49:28almost the entire series is just you have to it's both.
- 49:31You have to give credit to Minnesota, but also clearly
- 49:33there was an issue there in Dallas.
- 49:34I mean, to me, an obvious one is ripe rope being out for the
- 49:38whole series. That's a big that's your that's
- 49:40their number 1C. So that's a, I mean, yeah, they.
- 49:44Have guess potentially. But I guess, yeah, he's better.
- 49:47But right now is their number 1C.
- 49:50Any team is going to be a lot worse without their number one,
- 49:53and when you're going 2 teams that are so evenly matched,
- 49:56losing that is pretty massive. So I think that is a big part
- 49:59that doesn't get talked about a lot or enough or at least maybe
- 50:02just I wasn't thinking about it until I just did think.
- 50:04About it someone so many good players you gotta forget they
- 50:07were also missing 1. That's it.
- 50:09So it's a bit, I think you can say the goaltending could have
- 50:13been better, you could say they were missing rope.
- 50:15But at the end of the day. Every team is missing players,
- 50:17every team has injuries and battling stuff that you know.
- 50:20It's just the better team at the end of the day.
- 50:22You have to give credit there. I mean, their miss stacked like
- 50:26a fun stat for you. 3 of the top four points guys in round one
- 50:30were on Minnesota. You have Hughes, Boldy and
- 50:32Kaprizov. That's insane that having those
- 50:34three players. Then you have Walstead who's
- 50:36showing up like a Vezina goalie and oh, Walstead starts playing
- 50:38poorly. Oh, they have Gustafson, who's
- 50:40also been an amazing goalie over the past season.
- 50:43Then you have Erickson Eck, you have Zuccarello, you have you
- 50:47know. Zuko means in the first series 2
- 50:50and now Ericsson. Ek is also hurt and like doesn't
- 50:53mean we can maybe dive into the game happened last night and
- 50:56just give our predictions right this season this series is gonna
- 50:58go you wanna lay it out for us let's.
- 51:01Let's get into some of this. These stats for Colorado,
- 51:05Minnesota Central one versus Central three.
- 51:07They split their season series 22, which is honestly pretty
- 51:10impressive for Minnesota because Colorado had like 9 losses this
- 51:13year. So I'm exaggerating a bit, but
- 51:16pretty much. So for two of them to be from a
- 51:18Minnesota and then to split the series is pretty impressive in
- 51:20terms of goals, assists, points. McKinnon was top for Colorado
- 51:24and was higher than than Minnesotans who had top goals
- 51:26and points with Kaprizov. Top assist was Hughes.
- 51:29Again, obviously a lot of these numbers are would be higher if
- 51:32fuses on the team full season rather than just midway through.
- 51:35But still, it's a creative had 89 points this year.
- 51:39McKenna had 127. It's just a crazy because he's
- 51:42in the conversation. He was yeah, so.
- 51:45But I mean, it feels like he's always heard of it.
- 51:47But yeah, in terms of goal tending, both of these goalies
- 51:50have been elite. It's also kind of crazy that you
- 51:52have the battle of the quote UN quote backups, right going into
- 51:55the season was Blackwood and Gustafson and now it's Wedgewood
- 51:59and Walstead, the W's. So it's it's pretty pretty,
- 52:03pretty cool to see. And then power play wise,
- 52:06Colorado, we talked about it all year, 28th in the league, awful
- 52:09power play. Minnesota third best power play
- 52:11in the league. You get to the penalty kill.
- 52:13Yeah, it does so and then get the penalty kill.
- 52:15Colorado first in the league, Minnesota 15th.
- 52:18So again, this is one of those I mean, I'm still giving the edge
- 52:20to Minnesota in the in the specialty teams, but but it's
- 52:24kind of kind of nuts and it's quickly injuries Colorado.
- 52:27Josh Manson is was out for game one.
- 52:29We'll see how long he's out. Joel Ericsson Ek out for at
- 52:31least the first two games and that's a massive loss and see
- 52:34when he comes back. Let's talk about what happened
- 52:36last night. First, First off, my new pet
- 52:39peeve is when Josh has specialty teams site special teams.
- 52:44I don't believe that my I think my eye twitches every time you
- 52:46say it. Can I continue?
- 52:52So what happened last night for for those of you that stayed up
- 52:54there for the have one, yeah, I view it at six, nine, yeah.
- 53:02Yeah, And this little 169, yeah, that's nuts.
- 53:05I I was speaking to my friend who doesn't really watch hockey,
- 53:09just watch the basketball. And I was like, that's like a
- 53:11team winning 200 to 180 and that does not happen.
- 53:16That's insane. Playoffs, too.
- 53:20Yeah, and you know, I, I wouldn't be surprised if the
- 53:23next game is like 21. I, I just feel like these are
- 53:27both powerhouse teams that just did not know how to match up and
- 53:30they're going to figure it out quickly.
- 53:32So I mean, I just want to say like what our predictions are
- 53:36because one of us is the odd one out.
- 53:38We both have the same, same teams in the East.
- 53:44Josh and I both think Colorado's gonna win.
- 53:47Josh is Colorado in seven. I have Colorado in five.
- 53:50Kevin has Minnesota and seven. So I'm going to give my
- 53:53rationale for Colorado. Josh could chime in too.
- 53:55And then Kevin, I want to hear your thoughts because I know you
- 53:58have a lot of good things to say.
- 53:59And I'm, I'm curious about this. But basically, to me, I think
- 54:02that what it is with Colorado is that they are so incredibly good
- 54:07on their star power is so elite that you don't realize that this
- 54:12team is also incredibly deep. Like their third line, Ross
- 54:17golden Kadri and Nick woke could be line to like is better than
- 54:21buffaloes line to or line 3 depending on you know what I
- 54:25mean whatever. But the the current line 2 for
- 54:28Buffalo according to what their lineup is and yeah, and it's
- 54:33just their elite all around. Their defensemen are fantastic.
- 54:36Also their goaltending is questionable, but good enough
- 54:39and has been good enough all season.
- 54:41So and they also have one of the two best players in the world
- 54:46and McKinnon I was talking about.
- 54:50Martina, just obviously. Yeah, and I will say like their
- 54:53power play, although dog awful all year, like how bad can it
- 54:58really remain? I mean, I guess it can because
- 55:02it was for such a huge sample size, but like they still should
- 55:05be good. So I think they're going to
- 55:06shoot a lot of pucks on net wall that's going to need to
- 55:09continuously play out of his mind in order for Minnesota to
- 55:12have a chance. But I really think they'd
- 55:14Colorado's going to win, and I think it's going to be tough.
- 55:17You think that a good winning strategy for for walls that
- 55:19would be letting in fewer than nine goals next time?
- 55:21I think so I. Do I don't know why I didn't go
- 55:24to the first game? Yeah.
- 55:26Yeah, and I wouldn't be surprised.
- 55:28So I have Colorado in five, but if it does go past five games, I
- 55:31think we're going to see Gustafson at some point in the
- 55:33series. Really.
- 55:35Yeah, it happens. One more game like this and and
- 55:38it's definitely that's the thing when both teams have such good
- 55:41backup options is that it's very easy to make the switch.
- 55:45If one of the guys is faltering, you don't have time to mess
- 55:47around. It's not like a season long
- 55:49thing where maybe they'll turn the ship around like no, you
- 55:51need the wins. Now your guys not playing how
- 55:53you want them to be. You put in the other guy who's
- 55:55just as good. So I don't think that's a crazy
- 55:57take. Yeah.
- 55:59Alright, I like Kevin Go because I've already talked to.
- 56:01Tonya, I was going to say, listen, I'm the only one that
- 56:03picked Minnesota. I told you guys from the
- 56:05beginning, my optimal final was Minnesota and the Habs and my
- 56:09office pools reflected that. I thought these were two of the
- 56:13best teams set up for long term success, but obviously Colorado
- 56:18was the number one seed and the juggernaut team this year.
- 56:21They were the best team by far. Was not even a question.
- 56:23So obviously on paper are going to be better than everybody
- 56:26else, right? But as we've seen in the Stanley
- 56:28Cups prior, usually the best team on paper doesn't always win
- 56:30all the way at the end, right? So I'm still very confident in
- 56:34Minnesota the rest of this series.
- 56:35I think they've been battling injuries the whole time, like
- 56:38they didn't have Zuccarello for the first three games against
- 56:42Dallas. They lost Joel Ericsson, Eric,
- 56:44like you lose Ericsson egg you're 2 second line centre is
- 56:47Daniel Yarov, so like. Yeah, going to go.
- 56:50Yeah. The gold.
- 56:53But then you're playing against the Colorado team that has
- 56:55arguably the best centre depth in the whole NHL with McKinnon,
- 56:59Nelson, Kadri injury down the middle.
- 57:01Like that's nuts. Crazy.
- 57:03Ross Colton usually is third line centre.
- 57:05And Colton usually could play centre and they haven't played
- 57:07on the wing because they're so confident in their centre depth,
- 57:10right? So like a team like that and
- 57:11they have Nick Wah, who they traded for, who is usually a
- 57:14line three, line 4 centre who's playing on the wing because
- 57:17they're just so stacked there. So when you're playing a team
- 57:20like that, it's just so hard to have an advantage in the bottom,
- 57:23like the bottom tier lineup combos.
- 57:26But I think Minnesota has enough firepower and top end talent
- 57:31that they can overcome a lot of this.
- 57:32I think they will have the advantage on special teams.
- 57:35I think if their power play keeps clicking like.
- 57:37They can national teams, yes, exactly.
- 57:40They they will keep they will keep hammering it in and as long
- 57:44as Wall Street plays average, I feel like Minnesota has a shot
- 57:47at this series now. I feel like game only kind of
- 57:49throw it out there. You're not gonna be another game
- 57:50like this series. If you do, like, it's gonna be
- 57:52insane, right? Like, I don't even know what
- 57:54else to say at that point. I think we're going to see a lot
- 57:56more closer games and Minnesota is gonna have the edge right
- 58:00now. It's hard to predict that after
- 58:01you see game one, you're like, OK, now it's like it's like how
- 58:03Josh says, like it's hard to envision anything else happening
- 58:05for the rest of the series. But there will be a game where
- 58:07maybe it's super lopsided in Minnesota's favor.
- 58:09They're like, Oh my God, is Minnesota is gonna run away with
- 58:11the type of thing right? That's why I think this is going
- 58:137. Listen, Colorado is the heavy
- 58:16favorite. Maybe not the heavy favorite,
- 58:17but they are the clear favorite here for a reason.
- 58:20I just something about this Minnesota team, I feel like when
- 58:22they're all healthy, they they match up so well against all
- 58:25these other teams. And Matt Baldy is cementing
- 58:28himself as one of the best players in the NHL is honestly
- 58:31insane to watch. And then you have Kaprizov on
- 58:33his team. That is also just insane, right?
- 58:36Like and Queen Hughes. Yeah.
- 58:38So you got the match of the two best in the league.
- 58:41You have one of the best wingers and one of the best young
- 58:44developing hangers in the league.
- 58:46Is just so much firepower on both of these teams that I don't
- 58:49know, I think it's going to be a battle of the contenders.
- 58:52If someone's going to be Colorado, is Minnesota like?
- 58:55I, I mean, OK, yeah. Minnesota fine.
- 59:00Yeah. Well, OK, fine.
- 59:02More more politically correct. If someone in the West is going
- 59:05to be in Minnesota, whoever comes out of this series I think
- 59:08is going to wreck the next opponent.
- 59:12But you never know. But probably.
- 59:14No, no, for sure. Well, that's that's like, I
- 59:15think. Varying injuries.
- 59:17Yeah, I. Think yeah, of course, but that
- 59:19conference finals to me is like way more favorable to whoever
- 59:24comes out of this series then it is on the other side.
- 59:27I think like the East is like really up in the air, whereas
- 59:30whatever happens here. But yeah, I mean, I see, I hear
- 59:32you. It'd be, it'd be interesting to
- 59:34see. I just think that Colorado has
- 59:37the clear advantages. But you're right, it never goes
- 59:39by the book. So I mean, in that way, I just I
- 59:42think are the crux of what we're saying that's different is you
- 59:44think Walstad has to play average.
- 59:46I think he has to play insane because when they did beat them,
- 59:48they tied the series season series 2 too.
- 59:50I mean, I had well set for one of those games.
- 59:52Wall set was nuts there. You got like a 4241 on 42 and at
- 59:57that point Carolina had lost like one other game.
- 1:00:00So it's like. You know.
- 1:00:01If Walstead plays average, how many goals he let in game one,
- 1:00:07four or five? Enough to win the game.
- 1:00:11Yeah, but yeah. But if Wedgewood plays average,
- 1:00:14then yeah, yeah, yeah, No, for sure.
- 1:00:16I mean, this is the first time that Kyle Mccarter and Quinn
- 1:00:19Hughes of played each other in the playoffs.
- 1:00:21Very. I mean, part of that is because
- 1:00:22Vancouver has been changed forever.
- 1:00:24But yeah, but it's kind of crazy because it's been such a topic
- 1:00:29of conversation ever since the two of them entered the league.
- 1:00:31It's Kyle McCarthy when he uses the better defenders.
- 1:00:33It's cool to see them matched up against each other.
- 1:00:35And I think it's just going to be a fantastic series.
- 1:00:37I view it as this whole, I mean, it's really very similar to the
- 1:00:41East, the whole the two divisions, right?
- 1:00:43You have one division that's just a powerhouse all the way
- 1:00:45through, or at least the top three in the division are all
- 1:00:48really strong. And you have another division
- 1:00:49that's kind of like a joke. And other than in the east,
- 1:00:53Carolina is legit. But realistically, the metro is
- 1:00:55kind of a joke. And then in the West, the
- 1:00:57pacifics complete joke from top to bottom.
- 1:00:59And then the central is just a juggernaut to juggernaut.
- 1:01:02So I think this is going to be one of the best series in the in
- 1:01:05the playoffs. I don't know if anything can
- 1:01:07beat this Montreal Tampa series because I don't think we'll ever
- 1:01:09see a series this close for a long time at least.
- 1:01:12But I think it's gonna be really cool and fun and I would love to
- 1:01:15see a lot more 15 goal games. That'd be really.
- 1:01:17Cool. I will.
- 1:01:18I will say, though, that if Eric's neck is missing more
- 1:01:20games, I think that's like, I don't see Minnesota winning
- 1:01:23without him. That's obviously it's a big
- 1:01:26asterisk. So if he's playing in Game 2,
- 1:01:29he's probably not going to be 100.
- 1:01:30Out for Game 2. Well, there you go.
- 1:01:32OK. Well, that just kind of if
- 1:01:35Minnesota is going back home down O2, I think their odds of
- 1:01:38winning are a lot less good than, you know, one-on-one and
- 1:01:42having it split right. So because I think.
- 1:01:44Colorado here first, I think. I think.
- 1:01:46Colorado wins at least one game in Minnesota.
- 1:01:49I mean, listen, you never know. But this game, too, I feel like
- 1:01:52was the crux of the match up. So if Eric Neck is not playing
- 1:01:56in that already, then I'm definitely less confident in
- 1:01:59Minnesota in seven. But hopefully they can make it
- 1:02:02happen because I think within, yeah.
- 1:02:04Will will you buy a Daniela your OBJ jersey?
- 1:02:08Got mad Zagarella jersey or something.
- 1:02:10OK, that's good. How about a Vladimir Tarasenko
- 1:02:14jersey? Did you see that goal last?
- 1:02:16Night. I mean, he has those in his bag.
- 1:02:18Though the one handed, yeah, I mean it's the forget that he was
- 1:02:22yeah, that he was a really good player before he got pulled, you
- 1:02:24know, like. And also last thing, last thing
- 1:02:28I will say, like we had this conversation earlier this year,
- 1:02:31I think it was a mailback question where somebody was
- 1:02:33asking about dynasty purposes or whatnot, but I it was talking
- 1:02:38about Makar and Quinn Hughes. And my take was that it's just
- 1:02:42kind of like, you know, Mccarran always one.
- 1:02:44I'm firmly in the bone. I think Josh how was saying how
- 1:02:46like both of them are in the same tier.
- 1:02:48I'm in that boat now. I feel like Queen houses show me
- 1:02:50enough that like Makar is obviously still elite and maybe
- 1:02:53has a safer floor, but this Queen Hughes on Minnesota is
- 1:02:56just a different level. Like I I feel like they're both
- 1:02:59I put them the same, like nothing to change between the
- 1:03:03two of them. So I've changed my mind.
- 1:03:06I have seen more information. I have updated my opinion.
- 1:03:08I think both illegally talents. Yeah, I've been talking about.
- 1:03:12This about we're talking about Queen Hughes, Allah, Queen,
- 1:03:15sorry, we're talking about this time next year.
- 1:03:17We're talking about Lane Hudson in that.
- 1:03:18Conversation. I hope so, yeah, 100%.
- 1:03:21But yeah, I was talking about that whole Quinn Hughes being
- 1:03:24comparable to my car since our pre draft content from last
- 1:03:28summer because I looked at their stats from the from the season
- 1:03:30before and I said these are surprisingly close for two guys
- 1:03:33who are viewed so differently fantasy wise.
- 1:03:35You just have to think. Yeah, 100 and you know what,
- 1:03:38it's totally fair. He had no one to play with.
- 1:03:40Now on Minnesota, it's a completely different.
- 1:03:41It's a huge game changer. And yeah, give me I'd rather
- 1:03:44like Macar gets drafted around like 8th overall when he gets
- 1:03:47drafted around like 12th overall.
- 1:03:50I mean, would you? I'd rather fair.
- 1:03:52I'd rather have Quinn. He was at 12.
- 1:03:53I think with with means I got the second round pick earlier.
- 1:03:56I think I would prefer. That, I mean, to me it will be
- 1:03:58like if there's one that has a way better playoff schedule, I
- 1:04:00will go in that direction like but.
- 1:04:02Yeah, but at the same spot, like say your 8th overall and you
- 1:04:06wanna pick a defenseman. Let's say you use as a 444 and
- 1:04:11343 or 434 type of thing. Like give me the extra game
- 1:04:14semifinals, give me give me Quinn Hughes, right?
- 1:04:17And I feel like maybe with what I just said, people will think,
- 1:04:21oh, maybe I was so low and couldn't use before I still had
- 1:04:23them as a top three defenseman. It was like, hey, Werenski, they
- 1:04:26were always in that conversation.
- 1:04:27Right now it's like it's 1A1B with both of these guys and
- 1:04:31nothing to nothing to separate them besides Playhouse.
- 1:04:33Schedule, I mean, that's that's a big thing to say that you
- 1:04:35would take cues over my car with a better playoff schedule.
- 1:04:37I think until this year and until this trade in Minnesota,
- 1:04:40no one would ever do that. But now I wouldn't fault.
- 1:04:42It's McKinnon, McDavid. It's the same thing.
- 1:04:44Yeah, the Oscars here is like if he's for sure staying on
- 1:04:48Minnesota, et cetera. I mean, he just, he just signed,
- 1:04:50no? No, he's, he's got like one year
- 1:04:54left I think after this. One, he's for sure staying.
- 1:04:57I mean, it really depends how well they do, but if they if
- 1:04:59they go on a run here, which already looks pretty solid with
- 1:05:02me, it's the second round, then I could see him staying for
- 1:05:05sure. Alright, let's go to the pillow
- 1:05:09fight division, as Connor McDavid called it earlier this
- 1:05:11year. We have the Pacific Vegas Golden
- 1:05:14Knights versus the Anaheim Ducks, Pacific one versus
- 1:05:17Pacific three season series. Anaheim was 3 and O versus
- 1:05:21Vegas. That was pretty crazy to me.
- 1:05:23That was I'm I'm actually surprised.
- 1:05:25That is surprising. That was pretty.
- 1:05:26Yeah. I actually had my prediction
- 1:05:29originally was Vegas and I switched to Anaheim after seeing
- 1:05:31that. You're so easily swayed by this
- 1:05:33was so bad for like. Yeah.
- 1:05:37So quickly, how did they get here?
- 1:05:38Before I get into the stats of this series, Vegas beat Utah.
- 1:05:42That was actually kind of heartbreaking as I think most
- 1:05:44people are rooting for Utah there.
- 1:05:45And in the first five games of the series, Utah was leading in
- 1:05:48the third period and all five of those games, and they were, they
- 1:05:51left Game 5 down 32 and they lost in game six, kind of got
- 1:05:55decimated there. So I think that could come down
- 1:05:57to the experience that, you know, we were talking about it
- 1:06:00in all our predictions, right? We kept picking, we think Boston
- 1:06:02over, Buffalo we picked, I think we picked Edmonton over and
- 1:06:06there were a couple different spots where we were like, oh,
- 1:06:08the experience is really gonna shine through.
- 1:06:10I think this was that Vegas, Utah series was that that
- 1:06:13experience kind of shining through.
- 1:06:15Mitch Marner had an actual good playoff series in round one.
- 1:06:18Turns out the Leafs were the problem the whole time.
- 1:06:20Soccer, yeah. So that was it.
- 1:06:25Got it, got it, got it. Throw shot at the at the least
- 1:06:28in our Habs jerseys, yeah, those are.
- 1:06:31Pretty why you save me for it. And then just sign like the
- 1:06:35worst gems of all time. I don't know.
- 1:06:37Oh my God, yeah. Well, they're a little caveat on
- 1:06:40that. Like what?
- 1:06:41What? Yeah.
- 1:06:41How does this? Happen press conference.
- 1:06:42Did you see the press that was nuts where the guys like this?
- 1:06:46This reporter asked him, I forget the exact wording, but it
- 1:06:50was brutal. It was like I did 5 minutes of
- 1:06:54research and I've heard that this guy who hired as a con
- 1:06:58artist and he's horrible and everyone around the league and
- 1:07:01then he's like, well, you must be looking at different sources
- 1:07:03because we did due diligence and he's like, that's all you have
- 1:07:05to say. And it was like, this is so.
- 1:07:07Spicy, the reporter. Is hockey when is this?
- 1:07:11Because it's like a soap opera. Like I didn't even know about
- 1:07:14this guy beforehand. I just like watching Matt Sunday
- 1:07:17in there, just trying to like play it cool and.
- 1:07:19Wow. What a thing.
- 1:07:21The reporter said he interviewed 20 NHL like executive personnel
- 1:07:27and he said like if he name dropped all 20 of them,
- 1:07:29everybody would know their names.
- 1:07:30And they all said that they were like, what just happened?
- 1:07:34This is like a mess of a of a situation right here.
- 1:07:38And then he was just like, I had spoke to 20 of these guys and
- 1:07:41got this information. Who did you speak to to like
- 1:07:44have a different information and basically like called him out.
- 1:07:47It was like, what are you doing, buddy?
- 1:07:49Like how did you come to this conclusion?
- 1:07:52His only experience was being GM of Arizona, the Coyotes a couple
- 1:07:56years back and he did a tremendously awful job there.
- 1:07:59And it's it's obviously known as one of the worst tenured GM jobs
- 1:08:04ever. And then somehow he gets hired
- 1:08:07by the leaves. I've been seeing a lot of people
- 1:08:09online saying that Leafs like the ownership, they just wanted
- 1:08:12a yes man will just say yes to whatever they want.
- 1:08:14Well, that's kind of why they went there.
- 1:08:16And they were like, they will hire this guy to be the yes man.
- 1:08:18We'll hire Sundeen to try and get some people to, you know,
- 1:08:21oh, he was a fan favorite back in the day.
- 1:08:23So maybe we get some good will that way.
- 1:08:25But look, as a certified Leafs hater and the huge Habs fan, I'm
- 1:08:29just laughing. It's gonna be.
- 1:08:31Hilarious to see people. Why do you call him a con artist
- 1:08:34though? How the how you got this job was
- 1:08:38like I was just how do you get this job with this?
- 1:08:40Experience recently I was reading about it recently
- 1:08:43because obviously it happened and I was like looking into it
- 1:08:46and the like the whole Arizona, the 10 year in Arizona, the guy
- 1:08:51was just doing the craziest stuff and with no explanation
- 1:08:55and he had almost no experience. I don't know how he got that job
- 1:08:59in the 1st place and there's definitely some weird stuff
- 1:09:02there. I'm going to look into it more
- 1:09:03and because it's just it's just wild.
- 1:09:05But yeah, that's fun. Little tangent if you're if
- 1:09:08you're a. Leader, I know we have leaves
- 1:09:09fans. I know we have some discord.
- 1:09:11Like let us know what your thoughts are on this, this GM
- 1:09:14signing and stuff. I feel like they put medicine in
- 1:09:16there. He's gonna be calling the shots,
- 1:09:17but they have him as like the assistant so he doesn't get all
- 1:09:19the Flack if stuff goes wrong. And then maybe they'll just be
- 1:09:22like, OK, you're do GM type of thing.
- 1:09:23That's the fall guy. Yeah, well, just shock is like a
- 1:09:27huge role for the Habs, right? Yeah.
- 1:09:29Yeah. So it's the same idea, right?
- 1:09:32Yeah, maybe it. But Hughes is also good.
- 1:09:35Yeah, you knows what he's doing. Yeah, I'm excited.
- 1:09:38I'm excited to see them trade Matthew Nice for pennies.
- 1:09:41And awesome Matthews for pennies, probably.
- 1:09:43Yeah, exactly. I think probably gonna try and
- 1:09:46send him to Arizona. He doesn't.
- 1:09:47Know. Anymore.
- 1:09:49That's what they got Jacob for, like, oh wait, we'll just
- 1:09:51connection. Yeah, exactly.
- 1:09:55But yeah, that that first that series, I look, I think it's
- 1:09:58Utah has an exciting future ahead of them and they shouldn't
- 1:10:00be like it's obviously always upsetting to lose, but it's
- 1:10:04pretty cool that they made the playoffs in the their first year
- 1:10:06having a real name. So.
- 1:10:07How do you tell when? And I thought, yeah, you did.
- 1:10:09They were up to one. I thought they had it in them
- 1:10:12game four. They were losing 30.
- 1:10:14They brought it back 33. If they win that before three,
- 1:10:16yeah, if they win that game, I feel like it's obviously a whole
- 1:10:19different series right at that point.
- 1:10:20But I feel like that was like the metal, the metal bullet that
- 1:10:23really just like took them down and they couldn't get in the in
- 1:10:26the series. That's why I was worried with
- 1:10:28the Habs. I felt we had multiple times to
- 1:10:30close out this series and we didn't do it.
- 1:10:31And I thought normally you get punished for that kind of thing.
- 1:10:34We, you know, we'll call it skill, call it resilience,
- 1:10:37effort, we resilience, you know, we we got there in the end.
- 1:10:40What happened to Utah is what I expect to happen to a team that
- 1:10:42doesn't close out a series when they have the chance.
- 1:10:45So it's it sucks for Utah, but but look, like I said, I
- 1:10:49wouldn't be too discouraged. But yeah, Vegas Palador FEV huge
- 1:10:52huge hatty in for Vegas. You can always talk about the
- 1:10:55beer bets. How many points does Alexa
- 1:10:59products have in the playoffs, Sir?
- 1:11:01I mean if you add him and Ilia in the regular season, I'm just
- 1:11:05saying. They have three power play.
- 1:11:07Points 2-3 power play points. There you go.
- 1:11:10Yeah, that probably Vegas here. Really.
- 1:11:12Yes. Yes, you were right not to make
- 1:11:15that bet to that a single more powerfully point.
- 1:11:19That's right. And then on the Anaheim side,
- 1:11:22Anaheim, Edmonton, Edmonton kind of got smoked.
- 1:11:24They they looked pretty awful the whole series.
- 1:11:27And did you guys read all the the post series post game
- 1:11:31pressers with McDavid and stuff? He is not sticking around.
- 1:11:35He's not even making it through the two years of his contract.
- 1:11:38He is you think he's either gone or is coming trade deadline or
- 1:11:41the trade deadline after that. I think it's going to fully
- 1:11:44depend on how well the team does this coming year.
- 1:11:47But if the team is doing Harley, he's getting traded at the
- 1:11:50deadline. If they do well but they don't
- 1:11:52do anything in the playoffs, he's getting traded the deadline
- 1:11:55after that. So this is.
- 1:11:56A if you don't get traded off deadline that he's not signing a
- 1:11:59contract. She's such.
- 1:12:00An I mean, yes, it was straight up literally like the first of
- 1:12:03all his comments, dry titles, comments.
- 1:12:05He was like, yeah, the team wasn't good enough.
- 1:12:06He's like, we have two years to figure this out.
- 1:12:08Like everyone knows the two year contract timeline.
- 1:12:11They are all well aware of it. The fact that Stan Bowman still
- 1:12:14has a job is honestly baffling to me.
- 1:12:16I don't know what dirt he has on the owner or what's going on
- 1:12:19there, but that has got to be the most.
- 1:12:21It's crazy watching these incompetent people have these
- 1:12:24crazy jobs when it's like, I feel like I could do a better
- 1:12:27job. I would have never traded for
- 1:12:28Tristan Jarry. Yeah.
- 1:12:29OK, you traded for a backup goalie and tied up all your cap
- 1:12:33and then had awful goalie production.
- 1:12:35What do you It's just ridiculous.
- 1:12:38Christopher McDavid, It'll be like a fantasy trade.
- 1:12:41But I do not wanna see David in Toronto.
- 1:12:44I do not want to see McDavid in. Toronto, I know, but he's from
- 1:12:47there. Yeah.
- 1:12:49It's like, you know, maybe. They'll be horrible.
- 1:12:51Do not speak of that. Yeah, he.
- 1:12:53Was supposed to go there? No, he was supposed to go to
- 1:12:55Buffalo. Buffalo, Yeah, that was the.
- 1:12:57Buffalo. Yeah, I think you're supposed to
- 1:12:59go to Buffalo. And then Edmonton won the
- 1:13:01lottery. And the lottery?
- 1:13:02Yeah, exactly. I mean, I feel like he would
- 1:13:04have been more upset in Buffalo, yeah.
- 1:13:07He's like, I mean. You have been.
- 1:13:09Good they've gone yeah yeah yeah seriously somehow they'll find
- 1:13:13the way but yeah I I I really wanted like I put Edmonton I
- 1:13:19thought they were gonna win but I'm very high on Anaheim all
- 1:13:22year. I actually like give some credit
- 1:13:24to Anaheim for winning despite the fact that obviously what
- 1:13:27Edmonton you know presented on the ice is they were clearly
- 1:13:31injured dry saddle came back for the playoffs.
- 1:13:33I'm sure you could have rested like another week maybe 2.
- 1:13:35McDavid was playing through what a fractured of it and that's
- 1:13:39terrible. You know, the rest of the team
- 1:13:41was not fully healthy. It was very obvious.
- 1:13:43But even at that, this is like a team that's been to the sound
- 1:13:45like Cup two years in a row with the best players in the world.
- 1:13:48Anaheim's a good team and yeah, I'm very confident in them in
- 1:13:52this series, but I think they're gonna get demolished by whoever
- 1:13:54comes out of the centre would. Still.
- 1:13:56Have a random question for you guys because I saw someone say
- 1:13:59this in like unlike a Reddit comment.
- 1:14:01Do you think Cutter Gautier is better than Sulkowski?
- 1:14:05I've heard about this debate in the past because I think I'll
- 1:14:08drop it in the same year, right? Yeah, that was the debate, yeah.
- 1:14:11Like my first instinct was like, what are you talking about?
- 1:14:14Life is like God, he's amazing. But then I'm like, go to you.
- 1:14:17Had 41 goals this year. Yeah.
- 1:14:20I think it's also part of the team that he's on to, that he
- 1:14:23can be a little bit more talismanic, if you will.
- 1:14:28But I think Slav has more overall, you know, player
- 1:14:33profile that suits a two way game a little bit more.
- 1:14:36Like I think he's really come along defensively and his
- 1:14:39physical presence is also like a big reason of why he's, you
- 1:14:42know, so good and the impact that has on the ice.
- 1:14:45But honestly, it's super close. Like this is where my bias will
- 1:14:47come into play and I'll be like, you know, because of all the
- 1:14:49other intangibles that Slab has. I'll probably go there.
- 1:14:52But listen, is Cutter potentially better like this?
- 1:14:56Yeah, real reasonable reasons. Yeah, I think that.
- 1:14:59Just a random thought because I saw.
- 1:15:01Better I do, but not because I'm totally biased in this.
- 1:15:07It's just like I've seen him succeed tremendously on Slovakia
- 1:15:10on the world stage, who doesn't really like, they're not that
- 1:15:14like they're, they're OK, but he's their guy.
- 1:15:15They have like a serial named after him.
- 1:15:19They don't have that for Cutter Goatee and the state.
- 1:15:25I think he's American. Anyways, all this to say, yeah,
- 1:15:28I'm on team Slap there, but it's close.
- 1:15:30It's definitely. Like the Habs already have two
- 1:15:32superstars with Caulfield and Suzuki, right?
- 1:15:34And doesn't have a superstar like Neil Carlson emerged this
- 1:15:37season as a potential superstar and cutter as well.
- 1:15:41So that's could be like their Cofield, Cofield Suzuki like if
- 1:15:45he wasn't there and laugh was enough.
- 1:15:46To the shade to Troy Terry. Troy Terry knows like value him
- 1:15:53as a adequate fantasy asset. So shades to former forward
- 1:15:58Jackson. Like, Oh yeah.
- 1:16:00Sure thing. Jackson Lacombe tied for the
- 1:16:03league lead and assist this these playoffs with Jack Eichel.
- 1:16:06So both. Jobs both in this series.
- 1:16:09And. Give us a breakdown.
- 1:16:12Give us the breakdown. OK, quick breakdown because just
- 1:16:14how do we get here? So yeah, Anaheim on the season
- 1:16:16Series 3 nothing. Most goals.
- 1:16:18Anaheim had Cutter Goatee with 41, Surface with 37.
- 1:16:22Dorsey was the leading goal scorer for Vegas this year.
- 1:16:25Just just nuts. And on my championship fantasy
- 1:16:27roster. Most assists.
- 1:16:31Otherwise you would have. Jack Eichel is 63.
- 1:16:35Jackson Lacombe with 48 most points, Eichel with 90, Cutter
- 1:16:39Gautier with 69. Very nice.
- 1:16:41Then goaltending wise, we had Dostal with a .88, like it was
- 1:16:46pretty close. Yeah, I know.
- 1:16:49I gotta switch it to Carter Hart because he's the one who's.
- 1:16:51Been playing, I can't you can't even think about the goalie
- 1:16:54styles from Vegas. This.
- 1:16:55No, it's honestly like, yeah. And then specialty special
- 1:16:59teams. Sorry.
- 1:17:00Thank you because special teams, special teams, I don't know
- 1:17:05whatever, it's my my brain just not working great today.
- 1:17:07Vegas with 6th in the league for both power play and penalty
- 1:17:10kill. Anaheim 23rd and 26
- 1:17:12respectively. Huge, huge favor for Vegas.
- 1:17:16So this is a pretty interesting one because a lot of stuff is
- 1:17:20pointing to Vegas, right? Obviously they're the favorite
- 1:17:22for that. 3 nothing, 3 nothing series season series win for
- 1:17:26Anaheim for me was enough to put I predicted Anaheim in seven.
- 1:17:30Kevin put Vegas in six and JQ Anaheim in six, so this is going
- 1:17:35to be a pretty good 1 I think. I think this is going to have
- 1:17:37the most goals of well, OK, some might do ridiculous Minnesota
- 1:17:44Colorado game. Aside from that, I I'm confident
- 1:17:48that this is gonna have the most goals and it's gonna be super
- 1:17:51high scoring and I think that Anaheim is going to come out on
- 1:17:54top. Yes, they beat an injured
- 1:17:56Edmonton, but if they could beat Edmonton, they can beat Vegas
- 1:17:59and I I still I'll say the exact same thing as I said going into
- 1:18:03round one, you have a third line 40 goal scorer, Cutter Gautier,
- 1:18:07who's also playing with Mctavish and apparently their best player
- 1:18:10paling. And yeah, this is a tremendously
- 1:18:13deep team. All three of their top lines are
- 1:18:16legit and Jeffrey Vial on their fourth line is sick too.
- 1:18:21So this team is just firing on all cylinders and yeah, I think,
- 1:18:27I think they're going to win for I'm very confident actually, and
- 1:18:31I know they're the underdog, so. I mean, I think it's crazy to
- 1:18:35say you're very confident, Anaheim.
- 1:18:37Is going to win this. I'm like, I'm confident.
- 1:18:39To me, I'm confident. Very is confident.
- 1:18:41I think there's like a 66% chance of Vegas wins this series
- 1:18:44and a 33% chance that Anaheim wins this series and a 1% chance
- 1:18:47to tie. Yeah.
- 1:18:54But I, I think for all the reasons why you guys went Vegas
- 1:18:57in round one is also the same reasons why you should go Vegas
- 1:19:00in Round 2. And I was the one that went Utah
- 1:19:03in round one. And then so I now I came to my
- 1:19:05senses and I'm just like, all right, like, you know, listen,
- 1:19:08if Vegas played Edmonton, I think they could have swept
- 1:19:10them. To be honest.
- 1:19:11I think that's kind of how Edmonton was playing and how
- 1:19:14Vegas really Vegas just show me in the Utah series that they
- 1:19:18know how to win and they don't feel the stress of defeat when
- 1:19:24they're up against the their backs are up against the wall.
- 1:19:27If you never feel like they're out of it.
- 1:19:29And another thing that's a very powerful feeling of confidence
- 1:19:32to have in the hockey series, especially when you're playing
- 1:19:35against another team that does not have that experience.
- 1:19:37And I think Utah and Anaheim are both teams that are, you know,
- 1:19:40coming into their era of being able to compete in the playoffs,
- 1:19:43But it's still early for both of them.
- 1:19:45And I think that this Vegas team, with the experience they
- 1:19:48have, is going to show throughout this series that they
- 1:19:51will win the close ones and that'll be to give them the
- 1:19:54edge. I think it'll still be a close
- 1:19:55series, but I wouldn't be shocked if it's like super 1
- 1:19:58sided either. And if it's super 1 sided, I
- 1:19:59feel like it's gonna be Vegas inside.
- 1:20:01I can't see Anaheim like sweeping this or winning it in
- 1:20:03five. I can see Vegas, I agree,
- 1:20:05winning it in five or in four type of thing.
- 1:20:07But if it goes, it could be 6 or 7.
- 1:20:10I think if it goes to like past five games, I don't I'm going to
- 1:20:14win. If it's as close series of four
- 1:20:16or five games. I think Biggest takes it, it's
- 1:20:18like either they just totally wipe the floor with them or it's
- 1:20:22a real battle to the end and I think Anaheim just going to out
- 1:20:25offence them. But it's also.
- 1:20:28Thinks that Anaheim has the edge goaltending wise, not that
- 1:20:31dostal. Was not impressive at all.
- 1:20:33This year, no, he hasn't been he's been super streaky all
- 1:20:36year, but when he was on, he was on Carter Hart.
- 1:20:38I can't get I can't get over that letting in four goals on 12
- 1:20:40shots against Utah. So I don't think he has the they
- 1:20:44could just see. I think that's I mean, a lot of
- 1:20:46times it's kind of a cop out answer.
- 1:20:47I feel like right for the underdog team.
- 1:20:49You're like, what's their win condition?
- 1:20:50Goaltending? It's always goaltending, right?
- 1:20:52But I mean in both cases that we've said it, it's because they
- 1:20:54have the better goaltender. Like like we said, Southern have
- 1:20:57the most amazing season. I still trust him a lot more
- 1:21:00than Carter Hart and don't even get me started on Eden Hill.
- 1:21:02So I think especially special teams is going to be a big part
- 1:21:06of it. So we'll see.
- 1:21:07We'll see what happens there and we'll see if how John Tortorella
- 1:21:11keeps his team in check. But I don't know.
- 1:21:13I'm pretty hyped on Anaheim and again that clearly they match up
- 1:21:16well against Vegas if they went three and against them.
- 1:21:18I know Vegas is a lot different team in the last month than they
- 1:21:21were for the rest of the season, but I I see that three and O and
- 1:21:25I think Anaheim could take. Them to me though, it just feels
- 1:21:28like the special teams are huge, huge discrepancy between the two
- 1:21:32of them like Vegas is an elite power play team and PK team and
- 1:21:35Anaheim is a below average power play team and PK team.
- 1:21:39I think that in a series like this where Vegas is already the
- 1:21:41team that you know is coming in as a favorite, has the pedigree,
- 1:21:45has the experience. I think that like ways even more
- 1:21:49on the scales of the series. I think Anaheim just came out
- 1:21:52guns blazing. Its Edmonton and Edmonton.
- 1:21:54Tina was already half broken with fractures everywhere and
- 1:21:56they were just able to like break through.
- 1:21:59And now they're gonna play Vegas team that doesn't have all those
- 1:22:01cracks and they're going to hit like a brick wall.
- 1:22:03It's going to be like a reality check a little bit.
- 1:22:04That's how I feel this series goes.
- 1:22:06Listen, they're about to play their first game tonight after
- 1:22:08we finish recording. So maybe one of us can be proved
- 1:22:12right. By the time you listen to this,
- 1:22:13you're going to know who was right and who was wrong.
- 1:22:15Between the two of us. It's just game 1-2.
- 1:22:17You don't want to read too much into it, but.
- 1:22:19But I will. Yeah, it's over.
- 1:22:22Vegas winning every game 50 or the other way around so.
- 1:22:26It's crazy, I can't help you. Let's just let's just quickly go
- 1:22:30through our what we predict gonna happen this season, this
- 1:22:32series, and then like where we see the finals matchup going and
- 1:22:35then our prediction for is gonna win.
- 1:22:37OK, I'll probably. Revise.
- 1:22:38Yeah, essentially rest of bracket.
- 1:22:40Rest of playoff bracket wants to start.
- 1:22:43So I have Montreal, Carolina, then I think, I think Montreal
- 1:22:50is gonna win. I have Anaheim, Colorado,
- 1:22:54Colorado's gonna win. And then I don't really want to
- 1:22:56say what I'm I'm gonna say, but I, I think that Colorado is
- 1:23:00gonna be Montreal in the finals. Boo.
- 1:23:02But hey, last time I said that, look what happened.
- 1:23:06So I'm very I hope to be proven wrong, truly do so.
- 1:23:12And what you? Got I mean, for me it's similar.
- 1:23:14It's obviously haves over Buffalo.
- 1:23:16I think it'll be a tough series, but I think the has the
- 1:23:18experience they have. They should take it Caroline
- 1:23:21over Philly. That feels like the most slam
- 1:23:23dunk one to me in my book. And listen, hopefully Philly
- 1:23:25wins. Rooting for Philly and if we
- 1:23:27have any Carolina fans that discord like please don't hate
- 1:23:29us. Obviously we love your team, but
- 1:23:33it'll be fun to see affiliate affiliate upset here.
- 1:23:36And I got Vegas beating Anaheim and I got this is a tough one,
- 1:23:41right? Because like, my heart wants
- 1:23:42Minnesota. But if Eric the next not
- 1:23:44playing, I feel like, you know, there's too much stacked against
- 1:23:47them down the middle. I gotta go Colorado.
- 1:23:51But I'm rooting for Minnesota. And then I think it's gonna be a
- 1:23:54Colorado versus Habs final. And then I wanna go halves, man,
- 1:23:57I wanna do it. I think this is the year we have
- 1:23:59the magic power of friendship, all of that, the hockey gods,
- 1:24:04everybody's in our corner. We gotta do it.
- 1:24:07I, I love it. I'm going halves over Buffalo
- 1:24:10and you know, I'll change my mind going Philly over Carolina
- 1:24:13because I if if haves in Philly are playing, then I'm going to a
- 1:24:18game in Philly. So it's gonna be not.
- 1:24:21This is basically what we want to happen.
- 1:24:24I say why not? No, not, no ones gonna not gonna
- 1:24:29call me out for anything, right. Anyways, so house versus Philly,
- 1:24:33I'll be there. It's gonna be sick and how are
- 1:24:35gonna take it? And then in the West, I've got
- 1:24:37Colorado versus Anaheim. And yeah, Colorado is going to
- 1:24:41take over Sanheim. And just like you, I guess we
- 1:24:43all have the same finals. We've all got Colorado.
- 1:24:46Yeah, I mean. 4 matchups, sorry. Yeah.
- 1:24:52And uh yeah, Montreal's obviously going to take it.
- 1:24:54We're going to sweep Colorado. Oh yes, and.
- 1:24:57I give the profanity at the beginning of the episodes that
- 1:24:59were like level headed homers that I tried to be realistic.
- 1:25:02And then Josh is like, yeah, we're sweeping everybody, maybe.
- 1:25:08Throughout the episode I be realistic, but from my end of
- 1:25:11the end of episode bracket, I gotta go all the way, you know?
- 1:25:14There's a philosophical question Would you rather lose this round
- 1:25:18or lose in the finals? Lose in the finals.
- 1:25:21Yeah, losing the finals, just as good experience and all that.
- 1:25:24In terms of like the heartbreak of it, it's you.
- 1:25:26Know I wanna watch as much as hockey man.
- 1:25:28That's true. Yeah, Yeah, yeah.
- 1:25:31OK, I think I would take lose this round to be honest.
- 1:25:35I just. You gave us the whole.
- 1:25:38Way takes a fake was really hard yeah no hey fake fat I'm you had
- 1:25:41tapped winning round one you don't want any.
- 1:25:45Winning. What are you talking about?
- 1:25:46If we make it all the way, it's gonna be just devastating.
- 1:25:49It's like it's gonna be. Horrible, devastating Route 2 as
- 1:25:52well. It would be, it would be like a
- 1:25:55bummer, but I'd be like, Oh well, opposed to no.
- 1:25:59Let me let me ask you this though.
- 1:26:01Obviously we're all rooting for the have is the most.
- 1:26:04What other team are you rooting for the most?
- 1:26:06Philly. Philly really?
- 1:26:0811 team from the West, one team from the east?
- 1:26:10Like who you rooting for the most besides the Habs?
- 1:26:12Anaheim on the. West, Yeah, OK.
- 1:26:14I mean, for me, if it's not, if it's not going to be us, like,
- 1:26:17let it be Buffalo. So I I hope the winner of this
- 1:26:21series makes it sound like a final.
- 1:26:22It's gonna be the Habs. Obviously it wasn't like for
- 1:26:25that situation to happen, it would have to be Buffalo.
- 1:26:27That eliminates us and therefore I can no longer root for them.
- 1:26:30If they eliminate. Them.
- 1:26:33Stanley Cup champs or something you.
- 1:26:34Know if there weren't other teams that I was like all that I
- 1:26:37also liked, like Philly or Anaheim, then I could get on to
- 1:26:40Buffalo. But since it's US versus them,
- 1:26:42then screw them. Yeah, that's fair.
- 1:26:46Yeah, that's fair. OK, Thank you to everybody for
