- 0:05SPEAKER_03: You can hear that, right?
- 0:07SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 0:15SPEAKER_01: Hollywood goes.
- 0:16SPEAKER_03: Have you ever, Mike, have you ever been on a comment with the podcast before your first film?
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: I think your first time will be my best time.
- 0:26SPEAKER_03: You know, you're you're so talking out of your ladies and gentlemen.
- 0:31SPEAKER_03: Welcome to the Mike Blitz.
- 0:32SPEAKER_03: I'm your host, Mike Wade, my co-host over there in the cuticle somewhere, Mike White.
- 0:36SPEAKER_03: What is up, my guy?
- 0:37SPEAKER_03: How are you doing?
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: Dude, I'm doing great.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: We're just a few days away from week one action.
- 0:43SPEAKER_03: Week one is going to be here a little over 48 hours.
- 0:46SPEAKER_03: We start with some Thursday night games.
- 0:48SPEAKER_03: Um, but we're not gonna talk about that yet.
- 0:50SPEAKER_03: We are still gonna we're gonna talk quickly about um this is the part three, a final wrap-up of the bold uh predictions podcast.
- 0:57SPEAKER_03: This is part three.
- 0:57SPEAKER_03: Mike and I are gonna do a bunch of picks, best coaches, Heisman, conference winners, G5 stuff.
- 1:03SPEAKER_03: Uh really just some fun stuff for you to give you kind of some guesses, plant some flags, really draw a line the sand about what we think will or won't happen this year.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: Um football cornucopia.
- 1:14SPEAKER_03: We're gonna bunch we're gonna do that a little bit.
- 1:15SPEAKER_03: Uh before we do that, um, just a little check-in.
- 1:18SPEAKER_03: How's your week been?
- 1:19SPEAKER_03: How was your weekend, man?
- 1:20SPEAKER_03: It's been a while since we talked, talked last.
- 1:21SPEAKER_03: Anything?
- 1:22SPEAKER_03: Any any any oh and then we throw in any week zero takes, if you will, in the big Florida State upset.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, we took the toddlers camping, uh, tent camping.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: That was awesome.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: We're we were paying for it like all week, but it was a lot of fun, super fun trip.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: Everybody did great.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: Um, Florida State.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: I kind of feel like we should pat ourselves on the back for that.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: You I know you are and have been and will be, but um, yeah, we I think we both kind of had a sneaky feeling that um that might go sideways.
- 1:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean, um, so a couple, so obviously, all four games, not a single uh home home team, no, nobody covered.
- 1:57SPEAKER_03: It was four dog uh covers, good for the good for the underdogs.
- 2:01SPEAKER_03: Um, I you know, I'll be honest with you.
- 2:02SPEAKER_03: I thought Georgia Tech would keep it close.
- 2:04SPEAKER_03: I bet on them um to cover the plus ten and a half, plus seven, whatever it was.
- 2:08SPEAKER_03: Um, and I just thought they'd be plucky.
- 2:10SPEAKER_03: And uh, you know, this game was in Dublin, a bajillion miles away, spot for a letdown.
- 2:14SPEAKER_03: It worked out.
- 2:15SPEAKER_03: Um, DJU looks really soft.
- 2:18SPEAKER_03: I just don't, you know, I don't I think Norvell's gonna get better out of him as the season goes on, but like that was not a good look for week one.
- 2:24SPEAKER_03: I do want to week zero, excuse me.
- 2:26SPEAKER_03: Quick shout out to uh Georgia Tech linebackers.
- 2:29SPEAKER_03: How about the comeback of the cowboy collars?
- 2:32SPEAKER_03: They had three linebackers.
- 2:33SPEAKER_03: I mean, if you picture night football in like the late 90s, early 2000s, just about every linebacker worth their salt had one of these humongous things.
- 2:40SPEAKER_03: They'll they call them cowboy collars or whatever you want to call them.
- 2:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you love to see it.
- 2:44SPEAKER_03: They make their shoulders look massive.
- 2:46SPEAKER_03: I think every Georgia Tech linebacker had one of those.
- 2:48SPEAKER_03: It was a really cool callback.
- 2:50SPEAKER_03: So, like, I just thought the Georgia Tech linebacking crew deserve a ton of credit.
- 2:53SPEAKER_03: Plus, they were flying to the ball everywhere, just um all over.
- 2:56SPEAKER_03: Uh, other my other my only other takeaway really was that obviously Florida State lost.
- 3:00SPEAKER_03: They're gonna win, they're still gonna won a bunch of football games, so I think they're gonna have a pretty good year.
- 3:04SPEAKER_03: That defensive line does not belong in the top five defensive lines in the country conversations anytime soon.
- 3:10SPEAKER_03: All respect given to Georgia Tech's offensive line.
- 3:13SPEAKER_03: Great job playing well, but they got blown off the ball a lot.
- 3:17SPEAKER_03: That ain't it.
- 3:17SPEAKER_03: That ain't it.
- 3:18SPEAKER_03: I'm sorry, I was just saying it.
- 3:20SPEAKER_03: Um, so yeah, that was really fun.
- 3:21SPEAKER_03: I'm glad camping was good.
- 3:22SPEAKER_03: I had a uh so uh my youngest started preschool this week, and we uh got him into orientation and we dropped them off, and you know, we went through saw the classroom, all the things, and we get there, and the teacher looks at me and goes, Oh, welcome.
- 3:36SPEAKER_03: I'm glad your son is here.
- 3:37SPEAKER_03: So he's gonna be a gator.
- 3:39SPEAKER_03: We're so glad to have him in the gator classroom.
- 3:42SPEAKER_03: And she literally started like doing the Lord Gator chomp at me.
- 3:45SPEAKER_03: And I was like, You get in trouble for socking her in the face.
- 3:48SPEAKER_03: I was like, This is I don't this is a bad omen.
- 3:50SPEAKER_03: I don't know what this means, I don't know what it is, but I uh my son is a gator, and she literally I got the classroom and she started chomping at me.
- 3:56SPEAKER_03: So at least she didn't bark at you.
- 3:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah, at least it's not Georgia, at least not Georgia Bulldog.
- 4:00SPEAKER_03: So I don't know what to feel about how to feel about that.
- 4:02SPEAKER_03: My youngest son starting preschool, he's officially in the gator class, the gator room.
- 4:06SPEAKER_03: Um, if they if he starts coming, if my two-year-old starts coming home and gator chomping at me, we're switching schools.
- 4:11SPEAKER_03: I just he's we gotta go.
- 4:12SPEAKER_03: There's no way.
- 4:14SPEAKER_03: So I don't know what's gonna be really in your face come uh late season matchup between so um anyway.
- 4:22SPEAKER_03: Uh so let's go ahead and start with some just bold predictions.
- 4:24SPEAKER_03: These are kind of just our big overview things that we think are gonna happen um going into 2024, and you know, they don't really have to be tied to anything specific, and we're just gonna kind of share with you our defensive thoughts, our thoughts.
- 4:36SPEAKER_03: Uh, bull take number one a defensive player for the first time many moons will be going to New York.
- 4:43SPEAKER_03: I believe there will be a defensive player going to the going to New York for the highsburgh ceremony.
- 4:48SPEAKER_03: I'm not gonna predict that he's going to win.
- 4:49SPEAKER_03: I actually think uh a James Pierce from uh Tennessee, I think one of those all American safeties, I mean, I mean if he if he turns in a 12, 13, 14 sack season, tell me what tell me he wouldn't get invited.
- 4:59SPEAKER_03: I think one of those uh all-American safeties at Georgia potentially uh could could get a call.
- 5:04SPEAKER_03: Um, I think there's a world where a uh I think Travis Hunter is obviously a pretty pretty viable candidate, although he's defensive and offense.
- 5:11SPEAKER_03: Um, but I think this is going to be the year where a defensive player gets invited to New York.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: Um, I I like that pick a lot, and it's funny because my first bold prediction was that we would see our first non-quarterback Heisman winner since 2015.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: But I was gonna go running back direction.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: Um, I was gonna go and maybe an Ollie Gordon, maybe a Quinshawn Judkins.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: Uh, a lot of good running backs out there, Henderson at a uh Ohio State.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: So a lot of good good running backs to keep an eye on that could really um impact that race.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: Very nice, very nice.
- 5:45SPEAKER_03: Um bull prediction number two.
- 5:48SPEAKER_03: Dabo Sweeney is going to be on the hot seat after this season because of the hill he's going to die on because of the transfer portal.
- 5:57SPEAKER_03: I think Clay Cup, Cape Clubnik is not it.
- 5:59SPEAKER_03: I think the offensive line problems have not gotten better.
- 6:01SPEAKER_03: I know they really like these receivers that are coming in, they're better, but you're relying on guys that just simply could not get open last year, or some of them at least, and the freshmen are supposed to replace that.
- 6:10SPEAKER_03: Uh, your best player, offensive player, Will Shipley, is gone.
- 6:13SPEAKER_03: Um, and this team underwhelmed last year.
- 6:16SPEAKER_03: I I get the defense is good, good defense will be good again, but tell me that I should be bullish on if Clemson goes eight and four again, nine and three, which by all accounts isn't really necessarily a bad season.
- 6:27SPEAKER_03: But if Dabo doesn't get any transfer portals again, those conversations in Clemson are gonna get weird.
- 6:35SPEAKER_03: Tell me I'm wrong.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: Um, they are.
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: Uh, but what does it really take for him to be on the quote unquote hot seat?
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: Because if they go nine and three, they could still sneak into the playoffs.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: And if they're a playoff team, probably not on the hot seat.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: I think I think more likely is uh he succumbs to that pressure and then takes transfers next offseason.
- 6:57SPEAKER_03: Okay, so let's say but if if let's say this though, if he goes eight and four, I'll say a little bit more or less worse than nine and three, yeah, no transfers again, and he gives us some lit music about oh, there's nobody I saw out there that was like Clemson material, which is kind of more or less what he said this season.
- 7:12SPEAKER_03: He's this year he kind of posed himself as if he was open to it, but then obviously was one of only four schools that didn't take a single one.
- 7:19SPEAKER_03: If that happens again, do you think the the the conversation with the board directors of Clemson University are saying this might not work out, even though he's a probably the greatest coach of all time at that school?
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: I think it's gonna take more than that.
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: Okay, okay.
- 7:33SPEAKER_00: That's that's I think I think he's earned enough equity.
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: He'd have to dip quite a bit, or or a more sustained downturn, and that would require the ACC to step up uh pretty bigly.
- 7:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 7:45SPEAKER_00: Okay, okay.
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: Which uh remains to be seen.
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: We'll see how they look this year.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: Well um, so moving along, my bold prediction is we end up with five.
- 7:56SPEAKER_00: Count them one, two, three, four, five FEC schools in the college football playoffs.
- 8:02SPEAKER_03: So to get to five, that assumes that assumes only one ACC, one Big 12.
- 8:07SPEAKER_03: Uh obviously the G5 team, that's five left.
- 8:10SPEAKER_03: That leaves four spots left for three Big Ten teams and probably a Notre Dame, realistically.
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: That's some really good quick math, actually.
- 8:18SPEAKER_03: Good for you.
- 8:19SPEAKER_03: Thank you.
- 8:20SPEAKER_03: Uh thank you.
- 8:21SPEAKER_03: So a man, five.
- 8:24SPEAKER_03: That is so the the reason that wouldn't happen is there's too much cannibalization.
- 8:28SPEAKER_03: Uh, like obviously, because I don't, I mean, if you're gonna tell me that there the five five SEC teams are amongst the best 12 in the country, best 11, sure.
- 8:37SPEAKER_03: I think I would agree.
- 8:38SPEAKER_03: I think I would agree with that.
- 8:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah, but that also means that they have to win every game against one of those other non five non-five teams.
- 8:46SPEAKER_03: Who do you think those five are gonna be?
- 8:47SPEAKER_03: Can you guys can tell you can tell me that?
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so looking at that, um, you've got Georgia, Texas, Alabama, yep, old Miss, yep, uh, and then you've got LSU, Tennessee, AM, and Missouri, yeah, all vying for um some of those other spots.
- 9:05SPEAKER_00: So, you know, when you look at what's that, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, is it seven or eight in the top like 12 or 15?
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 9:17SPEAKER_03: So we already talked about we already talked about Missouri as a is a pretty likely candidate to go 10 and 2, given their favorable schedule.
- 9:24SPEAKER_03: If they're 10 and 2, they've got to, yeah.
- 9:26SPEAKER_03: They've they which they have to.
- 9:27SPEAKER_03: I think they could very, very, very much get in.
- 9:30SPEAKER_03: Um, LSU is playing Ole Miss and Alabama, and none of them, they're not playing Georgia or Texas.
- 9:35SPEAKER_03: So there's they're not playing Oklahoma, though.
- 9:37SPEAKER_03: Like Oklahoma is also one of those teams that could get really good really fast to sneak in.
- 9:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we didn't even talk about Oklahoma, they're right there as well.
- 9:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I I I don't think it's a happen.
- 9:46SPEAKER_03: I don't think it's going to happen, but I do think it's a bull prediction that's very it is doable.
- 9:50SPEAKER_03: I think there is a world where the cars have to fall right.
- 9:52SPEAKER_03: I think Notre Dame probably has to play itself out because I think they're a shoe.
- 9:56SPEAKER_03: If they're nine and three or ten and two, they're in.
- 9:58SPEAKER_03: Um, I think for five SEC teams to go, you have to see one ACC team, one Big 12 team, no Notre Dame, and then like three or four uh Big Ten.
- 10:09SPEAKER_03: But I mean, I think it's bold.
- 10:10SPEAKER_03: I think it could happen.
- 10:11SPEAKER_03: I think it could happen.
- 10:12SPEAKER_03: Um, all right, this one's this one's particularly bold.
- 10:16SPEAKER_03: Big 12, the Big 12 conference will have the best top five co best top five coaches of any conference.
- 10:25SPEAKER_03: So let me explain.
- 10:26SPEAKER_03: So you look at the ACC.
- 10:27SPEAKER_03: The ACC please, please explain.
- 10:29SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 10:29SPEAKER_03: So you look at the ACC.
- 10:30SPEAKER_03: ACC is headlined by Cam Ward, uh, Kyron Jrones, who we like, Tyler Show, Chuck uh Louisville.
- 10:39SPEAKER_03: Quarterbacks, you're talking quarterbacks, just quarterbacks.
- 10:41SPEAKER_03: Coaches.
- 10:42SPEAKER_03: Oh, I'm sorry, quarterbacks, excuse me.
- 10:44SPEAKER_03: Will the the Big 12 will have the top five best quarterbacks of any conference?
- 10:48SPEAKER_03: ACC, there's not with Kyron Jones, we like Klubnik, Cam Ward, it's it's not that.
- 10:55SPEAKER_03: Um, in the uh Big Ten, it's um uh Oregon, Will Howard, Ohio State transfer.
- 11:03SPEAKER_03: We have no idea who the Michigan quarterback is, Drew Alar, who has yet to really turn it on, Will Rogers at UW.
- 11:09SPEAKER_03: The Big Ten isn't particularly deep at quarterback either, either.
- 11:13SPEAKER_03: The SEC is a different beast.
- 11:15SPEAKER_03: Carson Beck, Quinn Ewers, Jackson Dart, those guys are proven stuff.
- 11:20SPEAKER_03: Jalen Milrow, Nico, Garrett Nussmeyer.
- 11:24SPEAKER_03: And then the S.
- 11:24SPEAKER_03: And then so I would say Jill Murray, those four are proven, have played a high level.
- 11:27SPEAKER_03: And then there's a whole other slew of guys.
- 11:30SPEAKER_03: Um uh Garrett Nuss, Nico, Brady Cook, Jackson Arnold, who took the job, Dylan Gabriel, who's now a start order course.
- 11:37SPEAKER_03: Those guys, any of those guys could actually have a stratosphere here and compete themselves.
- 11:40SPEAKER_03: But look at the five of the Big 12.
- 11:42SPEAKER_03: Shadur Sanders, who I think is a legitimate first-round quarterback, KJ Jefferson, who has balled at Arkansas relative to what he's has.
- 11:49SPEAKER_03: He is now at UCF and a great Gus Malzance offense.
- 11:52SPEAKER_03: He could do that.
- 11:53SPEAKER_03: Jalen Daniels, who's the uh Kansas quarterback, who has a hell of a time staying healthy, but when he's on the field, he's absolutely electric, has Devin Neal, um, outstanding all Big 12 running back next to him, Noah Fafita from Arizona, who uh took the job from uh Delura and absolutely turned it on, has an all-American receiver and T Mac, and Cam Rising, who's in his 17th year of college.
- 12:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 12:15SPEAKER_03: You and I seem to be really alike.
- 12:17SPEAKER_03: There's the point is those five guys, if they are healthy, they are going to be the best five quarterbacks, one through five of any of the conferences.
- 12:26SPEAKER_03: ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, SEC.
- 12:30SPEAKER_00: I like that.
- 12:30SPEAKER_00: I like that.
- 12:31SPEAKER_00: That's um, it's a good take.
- 12:33SPEAKER_00: I like it because um it's a little bit more substance.
- 12:37SPEAKER_00: You know, that's it's it took some digging, but I'm coming around.
- 12:41SPEAKER_00: I think it's uh it's a good take.
- 12:43SPEAKER_00: How are we gonna measure this?
- 12:44SPEAKER_00: Because when you look at Heisman odds preseason, a lot of this has to do with how the teams are um expected to perform in the field.
- 12:52SPEAKER_00: Team, team, high, team game contributes a lot to Heisman odds.
- 12:56SPEAKER_00: None of those guys anywhere sniffing uh top like 20 in Heisman odds.
- 13:01SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I feel it's obviously and stats are biased based on the conference you're in.
- 13:04SPEAKER_03: So I think we have to go by like pro football focus, PFF ranks, something like that.
- 13:07SPEAKER_03: Something we'll find some sort of generic.
- 13:09SPEAKER_03: I think this take is either gonna be obviously right or obviously wrong.
- 13:12SPEAKER_03: Like half those guys get hurt, Nico wins the Heisman.
- 13:14SPEAKER_03: Like, there's gonna be worlds where this is like an obviously wrong take.
- 13:17SPEAKER_03: So we'll we'll circle back to that and we'll see.
- 13:19SPEAKER_03: I think it'll be obvious one way or the other.
- 13:21SPEAKER_03: All right, what's your what's your next one?
- 13:23SPEAKER_00: Um, so this is kind of a fun bold take, uh, because it it it's really gonna be telling about how the the playoff committee looks at these G5 teams.
- 13:35SPEAKER_00: Um, I think Liberty goes undefeated and gets left out of the college football playoffs.
- 13:42SPEAKER_03: I hope you're right.
- 13:43SPEAKER_03: So Liberty is playing in Conference USA, which is the worst conference in college football FBS level by a wide margin.
- 13:49SPEAKER_03: They don't have a single team, I don't think, other than Liberty, that's in ranked in the top 80.
- 13:54SPEAKER_03: Like Western Kentucky is the next best one.
- 13:56SPEAKER_03: It is so bad.
- 13:58SPEAKER_03: I fully expect I think Liberty's got one future.
- 14:00SPEAKER_03: I think Liberty's got one tough game.
- 14:02SPEAKER_03: I think they go at App State.
- 14:04SPEAKER_03: Um, I think that's kind of their only their only really even marginally difficult game in their schedule.
- 14:10SPEAKER_03: And honestly, with Caden Salter and Jamie Chadwell, they're probably gonna be um the favorite in that one anyway.
- 14:16SPEAKER_03: I hope to God the committee looks really hard at their schedule and punishes them, punishes them accordingly.
- 14:21SPEAKER_03: Um, I hope you're right.
- 14:23SPEAKER_03: I'm not confident you are.
- 14:24SPEAKER_03: I I think Liberty might get in because they're gonna be undefeated.
- 14:29SPEAKER_03: I would much rather see a Memphis, a Tulane, an app, a Boise, Ashton Genty.
- 14:34SPEAKER_03: Give me any of those teams over Liberty.
- 14:36SPEAKER_03: But I don't know, man.
- 14:38SPEAKER_03: Liberty going 13-0, which I think they're gonna do, it might be it might just be inevitable.
- 14:43SPEAKER_03: It might be one of those things.
- 14:45SPEAKER_00: If they do get in, they're just gonna get trounced.
- 14:49SPEAKER_00: It doesn't matter how they play in that field.
- 14:51SPEAKER_00: It it's I mean, the it'll be telling because the spread will be 17-21.
- 14:57SPEAKER_03: If they get in, they're gonna get into 12 seed.
- 14:59SPEAKER_03: I know they're they're not they're not assigning the G5 automatically the 12, but they are going to be the lowest ranked of the playoff teams as well, which means they're gonna play the five, which means they are going to play some super conferences second place person, which is going to be a Texas, which is going to be a Ohio State, which is gonna be somebody really good, and they're hosting them at their stadium, and they're going to beat them by 40.
- 15:23SPEAKER_03: So I'm yeah, I'm right there with you.
- 15:25SPEAKER_03: That would be a travesty and a major bummer, but I I don't believe that.
- 15:28SPEAKER_00: It would be a missed opportunity for an actually good game, and it would it would it would really affect how they view those types of teams the following year.
- 15:37SPEAKER_00: So just don't do it.
- 15:37SPEAKER_00: Don't do it.
- 15:38SPEAKER_03: Don't do it, don't do it.
- 15:39SPEAKER_03: Uh moving on.
- 15:40SPEAKER_03: Bobby Petrino is gonna get fired.
- 15:43SPEAKER_03: I'm sorry, excuse me.
- 15:44SPEAKER_03: Sam Pittman is going to get fired.
- 15:46SPEAKER_03: He's a heritage coach of Arkansas.
- 15:48SPEAKER_03: They hired Bobby Petrino to be the offensive coordinator who's there currently.
- 15:51SPEAKER_03: He's going to take you take over 10 years after motorcycle gate, which is arguably the funniest college football off-the-field scandal in my lifetime.
- 16:00SPEAKER_03: Um, happened was was, I think it was like 10 years ago last year.
- 16:04SPEAKER_03: He is coming back.
- 16:05SPEAKER_03: He is going to be the head coach, calling plays for the Arkansas Razorbacks this season.
- 16:13SPEAKER_00: I like it.
- 16:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah, very I would say not that bold, um, but a good one.
- 16:20SPEAKER_03: Well, he's got to get fired and they gotta point him, they have to at least point him interim, which may or may may or may not happen.
- 16:25SPEAKER_03: They might go a different direction, but he's right there.
- 16:27SPEAKER_03: And honestly, if it weren't for motorcycle gate, I mean if you remember 10 years ago, they really liked him in Arkansas.
- 16:31SPEAKER_03: Like he was really he was winning a lot of football games for them, and he had a nice little run at Louisville with Lamar and those guys.
- 16:36SPEAKER_03: So I've got I've got Bobby Petrino, he's gonna be the head coach of Arkansas.
- 16:40SPEAKER_00: How does he do as the interim?
- 16:43SPEAKER_00: Do they keep him the following year or do they well that's that's the million-dollar question?
- 16:47SPEAKER_03: I don't think so because he hasn't really he hasn't won towards 10 years, and they already went through this with him.
- 16:52SPEAKER_03: Like the AD is going to have to go to the board of direct trustees and say, listen, I think it's a good idea to give Bobby Petrino, yeah, that Bobby Petrino, that guy who did who put this school through that 10 years ago, 40 million dollars, and they have to say yes to that.
- 17:07SPEAKER_03: Like, I just I can't see the blowback is going to be tremendous if they do, but I do think he will be the interim coach at some point this calendar year.
- 17:16SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 17:17SPEAKER_00: You got any more?
- 17:18SPEAKER_03: Uh I've got two more.
- 17:20SPEAKER_03: You want to go?
- 17:21SPEAKER_00: Uh give me one more.
- 17:23SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 17:24SPEAKER_03: Um, Ollie Gordon is going to resurrect the host of Barry Sanders, and he is my long shot.
- 17:30SPEAKER_03: We'll talk about it later today.
- 17:31SPEAKER_03: I think you had the same, it might be the same track.
- 17:33SPEAKER_03: We'll go to Ollie Gordon.
- 17:34SPEAKER_03: Ollie Gordon is going to rush for 200 yards per game, average 20, you can get 2500 yards, the ghost of Barry Sanders, the last and only other Oklahoma State Heisman trophy winner, and he's going to win the Heisman.
- 17:46SPEAKER_03: Ollie Gordon.
- 17:47SPEAKER_03: All in for Ollie.
- 17:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I love that.
- 17:49SPEAKER_00: And I would love to see that happen as well.
- 17:51SPEAKER_00: We need the Heisman, as much as I love college football, and as much as the Heisman is like, you know, this symbol of college football, it is a terrible award that needs to be completely revamped.
- 18:06SPEAKER_00: It's given to, you know, whoever's the quarterback of the best sexy team that year, and nobody cares to look at anybody else.
- 18:14SPEAKER_00: No, it's a big brand.
- 18:15SPEAKER_03: Who has a good marketing team, who get who's on the right commercials, like you know, it's it's it's it's there's the I feel like the beauty contest component of the award is getting bigger and bigger and bigger.
- 19:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and it's it's awful.
- 19:08SPEAKER_00: It's to to be kind of the the the figurehead award of of uh college football, it should be better.
- 19:18SPEAKER_00: Just be better than that.
- 19:19SPEAKER_00: That's all.
- 19:20SPEAKER_00: Uh I agree.
- 19:21SPEAKER_03: Um, any more?
- 19:22SPEAKER_03: I've got I got two more quick ones.
- 19:24SPEAKER_03: You want you want to go or you go?
- 19:25SPEAKER_03: Go ahead.
- 19:25SPEAKER_03: Give me your quick ones.
- 19:26SPEAKER_03: I might have one more for you.
- 19:27SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 19:27SPEAKER_03: Uh quick ones.
- 19:28SPEAKER_03: Uh Virginia Tech is going to be uh 9-0 going into uh the Clemson game on November 9th.
- 19:34SPEAKER_03: They're gonna be favorites in every single one of their games except on Miami.
- 19:36SPEAKER_03: The only game that's really tough is they've got to go to at Miami.
- 19:38SPEAKER_03: I think it's week five and win there.
- 19:41SPEAKER_00: I thought we were doing bold predictions.
- 19:43SPEAKER_00: These are just things we know are going to happen.
- 19:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we are bullish on the hookies.
- 19:48SPEAKER_03: They are going to be undefeated going into week nine.
- 19:51SPEAKER_03: I'll go further.
- 19:52SPEAKER_03: College game day.
- 19:53SPEAKER_03: Clemson will be seven and one.
- 19:56SPEAKER_03: It's I realize this conflicts with my previous bold prediction, but let's see if I do it anyway.
- 20:00SPEAKER_03: Clemson's gonna be seven and one.
- 20:04SPEAKER_03: Is gonna be there, and it's gonna be the biggest game in Blacksburg since Virginia Tech hosted Ohio State uh five years ago.
- 20:11SPEAKER_03: Uh I will be there as well.
- 20:14SPEAKER_03: That's probably the bold prediction as well.
- 20:15SPEAKER_03: Virginia Tech undefeated, going into Clemson.
- 20:18SPEAKER_03: Did you guys get tickets for that yet?
- 20:19SPEAKER_03: No, of course not.
- 20:20SPEAKER_00: But we say we're going.
- 20:22SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 20:23SPEAKER_03: Uh any anyway.
- 20:24SPEAKER_00: All right, I'm done with bold predictions.
- 20:25SPEAKER_00: No, I'm gonna do one more.
- 20:27SPEAKER_00: Let's move on.
- 20:27SPEAKER_03: Okay, cool.
- 20:28SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 20:28SPEAKER_03: Uh so the next part of we're saying we're gonna talk about coaches.
- 20:30SPEAKER_03: Obviously, Mike and I, we were talking about earlier last week about how the coaches are kind of the biggest deal in college football.
- 20:35SPEAKER_03: These guys drive the sport.
- 20:36SPEAKER_03: We're gonna give you uh two coaches.
- 20:38SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna list you, I'm sorry, I'm gonna give you a list of coaches that are on the quote unquote hot seat.
- 20:43SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna ask you, Mike, which of these coaches is gonna be fired first, and which of these coaches is going to play themselves off of the hot seat, much much like Neil Brown at West Virginia, who we all thought was gonna get fired first, in fact, had a great season and brought back.
- 20:56SPEAKER_03: David Randa at Baylor, 23 and 25, going to year five.
- 20:59SPEAKER_03: Billy Napier, 11 and 14, going to year three, Tony Elliott, UVA, six and sixteen, Sam Pittman, 23 and turn 25, going to year five, Clark Lee at Vanderbilt, 9 and 27, ooh, going to year four.
- 21:12SPEAKER_03: Justin Wilcox, 36 and 43, going to year eight, and Ryan Day, 56 and 8, going into year six or other.
- 21:21SPEAKER_03: Which of these coaches, or somebody else would like to say, is gonna get fired first?
- 21:25SPEAKER_00: Uh I'm gonna go ahead and tackle this entire segment right now with multiple takes on multiple coaches.
- 21:33SPEAKER_00: Please, first off, Baylor has a bounce back season.
- 21:36SPEAKER_00: Yes, Dave Aranda taken over play calling on the offensive side of the ball again.
- 21:40SPEAKER_00: He's got a he's got a he's got a quarterback transfer, I believe, from somewhere.
- 21:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I can't remember his name.
- 21:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, lighten it up.
- 21:49SPEAKER_00: I I've his name escapes me for the moment, but anyway, yeah, he's taken over play calling, he's back in the driver's seat, and he's got a new quarterback.
- 21:57SPEAKER_00: Their offense is going to be better.
- 21:58SPEAKER_00: And I think um he buys himself some time.
- 22:04SPEAKER_00: He was a baller in the Mac.
- 22:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he is awesome.
- 22:06SPEAKER_00: Billy Napier, we know my thoughts on Billy Napier.
- 22:09SPEAKER_00: Florida, he he he might be the first to go, honestly.
- 22:13SPEAKER_03: Okay, so you got William Napier first out, Dave Aranda.
- 22:16SPEAKER_03: You're but you're you're holding on to your Dave Aranda stock.
- 22:18SPEAKER_03: You're still you're batting resurrection.
- 22:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, still holding that.
- 22:20SPEAKER_00: That's going back up.
- 22:21SPEAKER_00: I don't think, I don't think, I think you're right.
- 22:23SPEAKER_00: I think your Ryan Day hotsi talk is is overblown.
- 22:27SPEAKER_00: You bring it up all the time.
- 22:28SPEAKER_00: It's he's 56.
- 22:30SPEAKER_03: Here's my Ryan Day take.
- 22:31SPEAKER_03: Here's my Ryan Day take.
- 22:32SPEAKER_03: Ryan Day has arguably the two of the best coordinators uh in the in the in the country, and Jim Knowles and Chip throwing defense and uh chip cutter on the offense.
- 22:42SPEAKER_03: Their roster is unbelievable.
- 22:44SPEAKER_03: Offense, defense, skill position, Caleb Downs, the All American safety, Quick John Judkins, there's their defense, brought everybody back.
- 22:51SPEAKER_03: Their roster is insane.
- 22:53SPEAKER_03: Ryan Day is like let when you're little kid, this is a little video game analogy for you guys, but he's like when you if you let your little brother play with uh tech uh um Bo Jackson and Tech Mobile, or if you were playing Madden like Mike Vick and like oh seven, or if you're like playing James Bond, like odd job, the guy that was really short and hard to shoot, he is like that guy who has that kind of advantage and loses anyway.
- 23:18SPEAKER_03: The guy cannot win the big game.
- 23:20SPEAKER_03: He's great.
- 23:20SPEAKER_03: Ohio State is great, their coaching staff is great, but he is not a very good coach, and I am out on him.
- 23:25SPEAKER_03: That's what that's where this all comes from.
- 23:27SPEAKER_03: He is the guy that has all of the advantages and still falls short.
- 23:32SPEAKER_00: You sound exactly like Jim Harbaugh.
- 23:36SPEAKER_03: I I I I'll I'll take that.
- 23:37SPEAKER_03: Jim Harbaugh's a great winning coach.
- 23:39SPEAKER_03: Um, so all right, so for me playing off, uh, I love your take by the way, Dave Aranda.
- 23:44SPEAKER_03: I'm I'm Randall being LSU's former DC.
- 23:46SPEAKER_03: I'm love that guy.
- 23:47SPEAKER_03: I've already made my call, my shot.
- 23:48SPEAKER_03: Sam Pittman is the first to go.
- 23:49SPEAKER_03: He's that guy's dead man walking.
- 23:51SPEAKER_03: He's got nothing going for him.
- 23:52SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna give Tony Elliott some life.
- 23:54SPEAKER_03: I think Tony Elliott's gonna play himself off this off this off the schneide.
- 23:58SPEAKER_03: I think there's a good chance they're gonna start 4-0 or 5-0.
- 24:01SPEAKER_03: They're gonna rack up some wins.
- 24:02SPEAKER_03: I like UVA to get bull eligible this season.
- 24:05SPEAKER_03: So I think Tony Elliott is going to buy himself a little bit more time.
- 24:08SPEAKER_03: They just they actually just announced Anthony Calandry as a starter.
- 24:11SPEAKER_03: That was one of our off-season storylines from two pods ago.
- 24:13SPEAKER_03: I feel like as soon as we hit uh uh stopping to record, they announced that.
- 24:17SPEAKER_03: So we know it's uh Anthony Callandry, who I think you and I kind of like.
- 24:21SPEAKER_03: Um, so give me Arkansas first out, UVA.
- 24:24SPEAKER_03: He's playing back, he's getting himself getting him buying himself some more time.
- 24:28SPEAKER_00: I I don't, I don't Tony Elliott probably should be a little bit on the hot seat, but I I don't think people are dissatisfied with him just yet.
- 24:37SPEAKER_00: I think he he gets a huge pass because of what happened on campus.
- 24:40SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 24:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 24:41SPEAKER_00: Um, and I think you know the expectations were mid to begin with.
- 24:47SPEAKER_00: And so I yeah, I think he does enough this year.
- 24:49SPEAKER_00: If he has another down year next year, I think then that's when that you know the heat really gets it's turned up maybe at the end of the season next year.
- 24:56SPEAKER_00: But I think he does enough this year to buy himself plenty of time.
- 24:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think you make a good point about UVA's expectations as well.
- 25:00SPEAKER_03: They actually give UVA's leadership credit.
- 25:03SPEAKER_03: They've made, they've done a good job of being committed to guys, keeping expectations to where they are, where they want to peek, where they want to play, and not pulling the hair, not having pulling the trigger and letting somebody go too quick.
- 25:13SPEAKER_03: So I think UVA has stood by their guy and shown discipline.
- 25:16SPEAKER_03: That's the other reason I'm kind of hedging on that as well.
- 25:18SPEAKER_03: I think UVA is gonna give him a good long chance, and they want him, they want him to be successful.
- 25:24SPEAKER_03: They really want him to do well.
- 25:25SPEAKER_03: And he's got some guys on offense this year.
- 25:27SPEAKER_03: I mean, I'm I love Malachi Fields, Kobe Pace, the Miami Transfer running back.
- 25:31SPEAKER_03: I think it's awesome.
- 25:32SPEAKER_03: Um, your boy who lives a couple blocks from you, uh, Chris Tyree from Highland Springs in South Richmond.
- 25:37SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, Chris.
- 25:38SPEAKER_03: He's down there.
- 25:38SPEAKER_03: Andre Green, the receiver uh actually from St.
- 25:40SPEAKER_03: Christ, who I actually went and saw play high school ball here in town.
- 25:44SPEAKER_03: Those guys are both gonna be offensive contributors this year.
- 25:46SPEAKER_03: So, you know, I'm I'm I'm I'm bullish on UVA's offense.
- 25:50SPEAKER_03: Um we'll see if the defense, but there we go.
- 25:52SPEAKER_03: All right, moving on.
- 25:53SPEAKER_03: Uh let's talk about some conferences.
- 25:55SPEAKER_03: So obviously we're gonna talk about the power four conferences.
- 25:57SPEAKER_03: We're gonna talk about um what two teams we have playing in the conference championships.
- 26:01SPEAKER_03: There's no divisions this year, and who do we have winning the conference?
- 26:04SPEAKER_03: Uh let's go ahead and start with the Big Ten.
- 26:07SPEAKER_03: Do you care which conference we start with?
- 26:09SPEAKER_00: No, Big Ten's cool.
- 26:10SPEAKER_03: Big Ten is cool.
- 26:12SPEAKER_03: Uh, I got Oregon in the conference game against Michigan.
- 26:16SPEAKER_03: I got Michigan going back.
- 26:17SPEAKER_03: I've got Oregon beating them in uh the Big Ten championship.
- 26:22SPEAKER_03: Uh, I think Oregon is the best team in the conference.
- 26:24SPEAKER_03: I've already expressed my views on Ohio State.
- 26:27SPEAKER_03: I think Ohio State's very competitive.
- 26:28SPEAKER_03: I think they're gonna go 10 and 2.
- 26:29SPEAKER_03: Um, I think Oregon's I think Morgan's better.
- 26:32SPEAKER_03: I have a lot more faith in Dan Lanning, the former uh George defensive coordinator.
- 26:36SPEAKER_03: I think he knows what it takes to win.
- 26:37SPEAKER_03: I just everything I've seen out of him, I really, really like.
- 26:40SPEAKER_03: Um, if it weren't for UW having a massive season last year, he probably secures the Heisman and a playoff spot.
- 26:45SPEAKER_03: Um, just didn't happen.
- 26:46SPEAKER_03: So give me Oregon.
- 26:48SPEAKER_03: I also really just like Michigan.
- 26:50SPEAKER_03: They're going to play liked out defense.
- 26:51SPEAKER_03: Their two defensive tackles are the best defensive tackle pair in the in college football, I would say Mason Graham and Kenneth Grant.
- 26:57SPEAKER_03: Will Johnson is an absolute eraser, all American defensive back, really like cornerback, really like him a lot.
- 27:02SPEAKER_03: We don't know who's gonna pass the ball.
- 27:04SPEAKER_03: We don't know what's gonna look like, but they are going to run the absolute pejes out of the ball.
- 27:08SPEAKER_03: And with suffocating defense and really good run game, which I think they're gonna have, I think they win a lot of games.
- 27:13SPEAKER_03: So give me Michigan to get there, but lose to Oregon.
- 27:16SPEAKER_03: Go ahead.
- 27:17SPEAKER_00: Uh, I love the Oregon pick.
- 27:19SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna go Oregon, Ohio State.
- 27:22SPEAKER_00: Um, they've just got they've got a billion-dollar roster, they've got every player you could want or imagine.
- 27:30SPEAKER_00: Um, and they've got one of the best running backs in the country.
- 27:33SPEAKER_00: They've got stout defense, they've gotten more physical on the on the line.
- 27:37SPEAKER_00: And um, you know, I we'll see how the quarterback position, you know, if if it's a more of a game management system or if they're leaning on the run game.
- 27:45SPEAKER_00: But either way, I think they can do it all.
- 27:47SPEAKER_00: And um, but I see it, I see them losing to Oregon because I like Oregon.
- 27:51SPEAKER_00: I kind of like Oregon to potentially take the natty.
- 27:54SPEAKER_00: We'll see.
- 27:54SPEAKER_00: But uh yeah, or Oregon, Ohio State for me.
- 27:58SPEAKER_03: Oh, I respect those picks.
- 27:59SPEAKER_03: All right, let's go over to the SEC.
- 28:01SPEAKER_03: Uh, I got Georgia and Ole Miss in the conference championship game.
- 28:06SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 28:06SPEAKER_03: Uh, I think Lane Kiffin is doing wonderful things on offense.
- 28:09SPEAKER_03: He also had a humongous day on the transfer portal.
- 28:12SPEAKER_03: Walter Nolan probably being the defensive, other than Caleb Downs, probably 1B as the other defensive gem.
- 28:18SPEAKER_03: He's a defensive tackle who came over from Texas AM.
- 28:21SPEAKER_03: Absolute plug and play, just wrecker.
- 28:23SPEAKER_03: They still have Trey Harris, they still have Jackson Dart, they got a ton of playmakers, and Lane Kiffen has actually proof proven to be a hell of an offensive mind.
- 28:31SPEAKER_03: Um, I like uh Old Miss's schedule too.
- 28:34SPEAKER_03: So um I don't think they're gonna beat Georgia because I think Georgia is an NFL team, if we're gonna be honest with you.
- 28:40SPEAKER_03: Um, but I like uh Georgia over Ole Miss in Atlanta, the SEC championship.
- 28:45SPEAKER_00: I like that.
- 28:46SPEAKER_00: Um, I like that pick.
- 28:46SPEAKER_00: I've kind of admittedly slept on Ole Miss a little bit.
- 28:49SPEAKER_00: Um, they've got all the pieces.
- 28:51SPEAKER_00: We we know that Lane Kiffin um has definitely the offensive mind.
- 28:56SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, they cleaned up in the transfer portal and their their schedule.
- 28:59SPEAKER_00: I mean, they could they could easily go 10 and two um or better.
- 29:02SPEAKER_00: Uh, I don't think they're in any danger of losing more more than two games of the regular season.
- 29:07SPEAKER_00: I'm going Georgia, Texas.
- 29:09SPEAKER_00: And I like Texas to top Georgia in the conference championship.
- 29:12SPEAKER_00: I think Texas is is is back.
- 29:14SPEAKER_00: I think this is Texas's year.
- 29:15SPEAKER_03: I think Georgia's make a sound bite out of that.
- 29:18SPEAKER_00: We we said that last year, and we were right.
- 29:21SPEAKER_00: You're right.
- 29:22SPEAKER_00: I mean, we were right.
- 29:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:24SPEAKER_00: So it's not that bold.
- 29:25SPEAKER_00: Um, I think, yeah, I think Georgia takes a bit of a step back this year um on offense, especially.
- 29:31SPEAKER_00: And Texas just has it all that, you know.
- 29:34SPEAKER_00: I think Quinn Ewers puts himself in a position to be one of the top guys for the Heisman.
- 29:40SPEAKER_00: And yeah, Texas, Texas takes the SEC.
- 29:44SPEAKER_00: And it's really an exclamation point to them for their first year.
- 29:49SPEAKER_03: Uh points on that.
- 29:51SPEAKER_03: Uh, so Texas being back has been running joke for a long time.
- 29:54SPEAKER_03: The only reason I'm bullish on Texas is I just I can't, I can't what Sarkeesian did last year was awesome.
- 29:59SPEAKER_03: Their roster is very good.
- 30:00SPEAKER_03: They've clearly upgraded talents, expectations, the way they do things, it's all gotten a lot better.
- 30:05SPEAKER_03: They lost a lot.
- 30:07SPEAKER_03: Um, Quinn Ewers has been up upseat down a little bit, a little inconsistent.
- 30:11SPEAKER_03: Obviously, you got Arch Manning breathing behind his back.
- 30:13SPEAKER_03: They lost two absolute NFL superstars defensive tackle.
- 30:16SPEAKER_03: They lost those two wideouts, A.D.
- 30:18SPEAKER_03: Mitchell and Xavier Worthy.
- 30:19SPEAKER_03: I think among I think somebody else as well.
- 30:22SPEAKER_03: For Texas really to be back, they have to be there every year.
- 30:24SPEAKER_03: And I I don't what I don't, what I'm not sold on yet is that is what was last year an anomaly that we could correctly predicted.
- 30:31SPEAKER_03: Well done.
- 30:32SPEAKER_03: Or is Texas actually back for real?
- 30:34SPEAKER_03: And I'm just not convinced yet.
- 30:36SPEAKER_00: I need to see them their recruiting has been sustained, the recruiting has been sustained at a high level, and that's what it takes to be there every year.
- 30:43SPEAKER_00: And we know that their coaching staff can do it, so I don't see why there'd be any reason for there to be a drop-off.
- 30:49SPEAKER_00: When you look at talent levels across um the roster, um, they're right up there in the top five.
- 30:55SPEAKER_03: So no, it flies in the and this is a take that flies in the face of things that we're saying.
- 31:00SPEAKER_03: The roster is outstanding and we like Steve Sarkeesian.
- 31:02SPEAKER_03: I just don't like that it's Texas, and Texas is always back, and Texas has some play shows.
- 31:06SPEAKER_00: They do need Quinn Ewers to be a little bit more of a difference maker and a playmaker when it counts.
- 31:12SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 31:12SPEAKER_00: I think he had an opportunity to win win that game at the end of the year last year, and he let it slip through his fingers, where he really could have submitted himself as like the guy.
- 31:22SPEAKER_00: So I think he needs to need to be a little more dynamic as a playmaker.
- 31:26SPEAKER_00: He's he's shown that he can do it.
- 31:28SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah.
- 31:29SPEAKER_03: And I and I and obviously they lost a big running backs, I think CJ Baxter is out for a while as well.
- 31:34SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, that's right.
- 31:35SPEAKER_00: They lost their top two backs, actually.
- 31:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so I thought yeah, forgot about that.
- 31:38SPEAKER_03: So we're gonna we're gonna see, we're gonna see that championship level depth uh test.
- 31:43SPEAKER_03: Let's move on from Texas.
- 31:44SPEAKER_03: We'll talk more about it later.
- 31:45SPEAKER_03: Quick question.
- 31:46SPEAKER_03: If Josh Heipel moved on to the NFL, got hired to beat the Patriots next year after great season, whatever.
- 31:51SPEAKER_03: Is there any world where Tennessee calls Lane Kiffin and you're excited about it given what happened 15 years ago?
- 32:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I I don't necessarily hold that against him as a coach.
- 32:04SPEAKER_00: Um, I think he'd love to come back, and I think he'd he'd probably be a good fit.
- 32:08SPEAKER_00: I think he's grown a lot since then.
- 32:10SPEAKER_00: He's admitted that, and I think he kind of has this weird, sneaky love for Tennessee.
- 32:14SPEAKER_00: He kind of regrets leaving, he regrets the situation he put himself in at USC.
- 32:19SPEAKER_00: There's a long history of of Kiffen and Tennessee, the Tennessee fan base kind of doing these little winks and nods to each other all over social media, and he likes to he get get the jabs in, and obviously there was that complete situation uh against Ole Miss a couple years ago in Neeland.
- 32:38SPEAKER_03: But mustard bottles, yeah.
- 32:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think Tennessee fans are smart enough to accept a winner back into the fold.
- 32:45SPEAKER_00: I don't know if he'd be the best fit, but um the guy wins.
- 32:49SPEAKER_00: So when winning winning helps, winning helps.
- 32:51SPEAKER_03: All right, let's move on.
- 32:52SPEAKER_03: Uh big 12.
- 32:54SPEAKER_03: Uh, I got uh Utah, who I think is a favorite to win that probably the best defense, probably the best coach.
- 33:00SPEAKER_03: We think Cam rising's healthy, and probably the best quarterback.
- 33:02SPEAKER_03: Oklahoma State is the other team getting in there.
- 33:04SPEAKER_03: I love, love, love Oklahoma State this year.
- 33:07SPEAKER_03: They bring so much back on offense.
- 33:08SPEAKER_03: I think Ali Gore is awesome.
- 33:09SPEAKER_03: Be a lot better.
- 33:10SPEAKER_03: It'd be nice if Bowman would get just a little bit better.
- 33:12SPEAKER_03: He's been also been in college football for a bajillion years, and mostly those have been pretty underwhelming.
- 33:16SPEAKER_03: But I love Oklahoma State.
- 33:18SPEAKER_03: They have one of the best offensive lines in college football.
- 33:20SPEAKER_03: Between that and Oli Gordon, I'm just gonna run over everybody.
- 33:22SPEAKER_03: I got Utah beating them.
- 33:24SPEAKER_03: Um, um, I like Kansas.
- 33:26SPEAKER_03: I like Kansas State, like Iowa State a lot.
- 33:27SPEAKER_03: I think they're all gonna have good years.
- 33:29SPEAKER_03: I think Utah is the class.
- 33:30SPEAKER_03: Um, I think Oklahoma State is gonna get there on the power of Ollie Gordon.
- 33:34SPEAKER_03: Uh, Utah wins the inaugural Big 12 uh in the new automatic automatic pick playoffs.
- 33:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I like that pick.
- 33:41SPEAKER_00: I would love to see Oklahoma State um put themselves back in that situation.
- 33:45SPEAKER_00: They had a kind of a a little bit of a down year last year.
- 33:48SPEAKER_00: They were expected to do a lot better.
- 33:50SPEAKER_00: Um, and of course, Gundy can can coach his mullet off.
- 33:53SPEAKER_00: He's a good good coach.
- 33:55SPEAKER_00: Um, so Utah, Utah is definitely, I think, like the class of the conference.
- 34:00SPEAKER_00: I think with with cameras and and and what he's shown to do in his uh decade playing college football.
- 34:07SPEAKER_00: I think you pencil in Utah, and then after that, you've got a question mark.
- 34:12SPEAKER_00: So given given the fact that it's a completely wide open field, uh, I mean, Arizona could make a run, Iowa State can make a run.
- 34:19SPEAKER_00: I really like Kansas.
- 34:21SPEAKER_00: I want to see Kansas in there.
- 34:22SPEAKER_00: I think they've got one of the more fun offenses to watch, one of the more dynamic playmakers uh on the offensive side of the ball.
- 34:29SPEAKER_00: And uh their skill positions are just fun.
- 34:32SPEAKER_00: So I think they can put up the points and uh they probably lose to Utah.
- 34:36SPEAKER_00: I think I think Utah seems to be head and shoulders uh above the rest of the field.
- 34:41SPEAKER_00: Um, so yeah, Utah Utes beating the Jayhawks.
- 34:44SPEAKER_03: I get behind both that.
- 34:45SPEAKER_03: Well, I think Lance Lipold, the Kansas coach, is one of the best coaches in the conference as well.
- 34:48SPEAKER_03: And he's obviously he put them back on the map.
- 34:51SPEAKER_03: Didn't take him long to turn Kansas around.
- 34:53SPEAKER_03: So he's there.
- 34:54SPEAKER_03: If that for if that's to come true, that means that Devin Neal, the running back, and uh Jalen Daniels, starting quarterback, who I think are the two most dynamic players in offense, those guys stay healthy.
- 35:02SPEAKER_03: And if they stay healthy, if they stay on the field, then yeah, winning the Big 12, getting to the Big 12, even having a shot at winning it is totally within reach.
- 35:11SPEAKER_03: I think the only way that this prediction really blows up in your face is if Jalon and Or Neal go down early with injury.
- 35:18SPEAKER_00: And if that happens, then that's true for most uh these types of picks to be.
- 35:23SPEAKER_03: Absolutely, but that's particularly true with Kansas because I think they are so good and have an injury, injury risk, and beyond well, they've got superstars and they don't have depth across the board.
- 35:32SPEAKER_00: Correct.
- 35:33SPEAKER_03: And they also don't have Jason being the backup quarterback, who's actually one of the best backups in the country last year.
- 35:37SPEAKER_00: He's also and and Lifold's offense is so I mean, so heavily dependent on the quarterback position making plays, doing things outside of the script, and and and really just sort of freewheeling out there.
- 35:55SPEAKER_00: Uh so he's a perfect fit for what they're doing.
- 35:57SPEAKER_00: Uh so yeah, if he were to go down, it would be that'd be a season.
- 36:01SPEAKER_03: He's an outstanding decision maker.
- 36:02SPEAKER_03: Replacing him with the virtually impossible.
- 36:04SPEAKER_03: So I agree.
- 36:05SPEAKER_03: All right, move on to ACC.
- 36:06SPEAKER_03: Uh, I got um I'm I got the rivalry that we all wanted and all we had for a long time.
- 36:11SPEAKER_03: I'm going Miami, Virginia Tech.
- 36:14SPEAKER_03: Give me Miami and Virginia Tech in the ACC championship.
- 36:17SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna give the edge to Miami because I've already said this earlier.
- 36:20SPEAKER_03: I think Miami has the best roster in the ACC, the best roster Miami has had in 15 years, and I love Cam Ward from Washington State.
- 36:27SPEAKER_03: I just think he's so good.
- 36:28SPEAKER_03: He's gonna do really good things at Miami.
- 36:31SPEAKER_03: They have an excellent offensive line, their defense is really nasty.
- 36:33SPEAKER_03: Uh, Xavier Restrepo is one of the best slot receivers in college football.
- 36:37SPEAKER_03: Um, and I just Virginia Tech is they're coming back.
- 36:40SPEAKER_03: Virginia Tech is coming.
- 36:41SPEAKER_03: I really like it.
- 36:42SPEAKER_03: They got a four-star wide receiver commit today, I think.
- 36:45SPEAKER_03: Um, Virginia Tech is on the comeback.
- 36:47SPEAKER_03: Miami is the juggernaut in the ACC.
- 36:49SPEAKER_03: So let me, I'll give the edge to Miami.
- 36:50SPEAKER_03: But I got Virginia Tech getting there.
- 36:52SPEAKER_00: No, I I love that.
- 36:54SPEAKER_00: That's a great pick.
- 36:55SPEAKER_00: I would um I would I would really echo that, but I'm not going to because I dug my heels in early that Miami is gonna have a little bit of a down year compared to their their expectations.
- 37:07SPEAKER_00: And I'm just gonna continue to dig my hole until they win like 11 games.
- 37:12SPEAKER_00: So I'm gonna go with NC State.
- 37:16unknown: Yep.
- 37:17SPEAKER_00: And I'm gonna go NC State Virginia Tech.
- 37:20SPEAKER_03: NC State, Virginia Tech.
- 37:21SPEAKER_00: Um NC State's got the schedule.
- 37:23SPEAKER_00: They've got um Dylan Gabriel, who is a fantastic uh transfer quarterback.
- 37:28SPEAKER_00: Or no, who am I thinking of?
- 37:29SPEAKER_00: Um the Coastal Carolina player, uh Grayson McCall.
- 37:33SPEAKER_00: Gabriel McCall.
- 37:34SPEAKER_00: Grace McCall.
- 37:34SPEAKER_03: Grayson McCall.
- 37:35SPEAKER_00: Um, he is he's a really good quarterback.
- 37:37SPEAKER_00: It's gonna, I think it's gonna take them some time.
- 37:39SPEAKER_00: I like them, obviously, to lose early to Tennessee, but their ACC schedule is pretty soft, and they don't have any other tough out-of-conference games.
- 37:48SPEAKER_00: Um, so yeah, I like we're gonna talk a lot about why we like Virginia Tech.
- 37:52SPEAKER_00: And I can see Virginia Tech cruising easily to a 10-2.
- 37:56SPEAKER_00: Um, I don't know what happens to Miami, but um I like the Wolfpack this year and uh Virginia Tech.
- 38:03SPEAKER_03: Uh Grace McCall is an outstanding quarterback.
- 38:05SPEAKER_03: Dave Doran always has really good defenses.
- 38:07SPEAKER_03: NC State's gonna be good.
- 38:08SPEAKER_03: I can't wait to watch the Tennessee NC State game with you.
- 38:10SPEAKER_03: Kevin Concepcion is one of the best playmakers coming back in the ACC out wide.
- 38:14SPEAKER_00: Wide receiver, yeah.
- 38:15SPEAKER_03: Uh they're gonna be good.
- 38:16SPEAKER_03: I NC State is a good pick.
- 38:18SPEAKER_03: Dave Doran's been doing a lot with he's been doing more with less almost every year while he's been at uh NC State.
- 38:24SPEAKER_03: So I can't I gotta get behind that.
- 38:25SPEAKER_03: All right, because keep moving.
- 38:26SPEAKER_03: We are we're we're gonna drag it here a little bit.
- 38:28SPEAKER_03: National championship.
- 38:29SPEAKER_03: Uh, you want to go first or second?
- 38:32SPEAKER_03: Uh I'll let you go.
- 38:34SPEAKER_03: For me, it's this simple.
- 38:36SPEAKER_03: Best coach, best quarterback, maybe the best defense.
- 38:39SPEAKER_03: I'm going back to Georgia.
- 38:40SPEAKER_03: I picked Georgia last year.
- 38:42SPEAKER_03: I can't get away from I can't get away from them this year.
- 38:44SPEAKER_03: I, you know, Ryan Day's, I mean, the Ohio State's fatal flaw is I'm not a big believer in uh Will Howard yet, the uh the Kansas State transfer quarterback, and I don't believe in Ryan Day.
- 38:55SPEAKER_03: Uh he's not it.
- 38:56SPEAKER_03: So when you give me, if I can have arguably the best defense, arguably the number one pick in Carson Beck, who I think will go number one, and Kirby Smart, who is right now pound for pound, the best coach in college football, until someone takes that from him.
- 39:09SPEAKER_03: I can't get away from that.
- 39:10SPEAKER_03: I can't find another reason why I can make a better pick.
- 39:13SPEAKER_03: So I'm I'm I picked him last year, obviously didn't work out.
- 39:16SPEAKER_03: I'm picking them again this year.
- 39:17SPEAKER_03: I got Georgia winning it all.
- 39:19SPEAKER_00: I like that.
- 39:20SPEAKER_00: I think I think Georgia, I think you're you're sort of you're you're sort of missing the amount that Georgia lost, especially on defense and in the trenches.
- 39:30SPEAKER_00: Their their defensive line was good last year.
- 39:33SPEAKER_00: It was not Georgia good.
- 39:34SPEAKER_00: Uh they're gonna have to improve on their D-line quite a bit from last year to make up for that.
- 39:39SPEAKER_00: Um, I like Oregon.
- 39:41SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna stick, I'm gonna stick with Oregon.
- 39:43SPEAKER_00: I I I think they've got all the pieces, and this is just gonna be their year.
- 39:48SPEAKER_00: Uh, I could easily have gone with uh Texas or Georgia as well.
- 39:53SPEAKER_00: Um, but I think I just there's something that something pulling me to that O, you know, I can't describe it.
- 40:00SPEAKER_00: I just I love it.
- 40:01SPEAKER_03: It's not hard made case for Oregon.
- 40:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the ducks, baby.
- 40:04SPEAKER_03: They've got they've also had a really big year in the recruiting.
- 40:06SPEAKER_03: Um, obviously, Dylan Gabriel, the quarterback from Oklahoma, the presumed starter, Dante Moore, the backup from UCLA, five former five star.
- 40:13SPEAKER_03: If something were to happen, the great option.
- 40:15SPEAKER_03: I actually think the transfer that's gonna mean the most to them is Evan Stewart, the wide receiver from Texas AM.
- 40:21SPEAKER_03: He was so good.
- 40:22SPEAKER_03: Um, he torched my beloved LSU Tigers for a number of times.
- 40:26SPEAKER_03: I watched him.
- 40:26SPEAKER_03: He was already a top receiver in the SEC playing big boy football against big boy defenses.
- 40:33SPEAKER_03: They got him on their side of Tes Walker.
- 40:35SPEAKER_03: Oregon's got weapons.
- 40:36SPEAKER_03: Um so I'm expecting them.
- 40:38SPEAKER_03: I'm expecting him.
- 40:39SPEAKER_03: I actually think there's gonna be a lot of top of the quarterback, and rightfully so.
- 40:43SPEAKER_03: They should there should be.
- 40:44SPEAKER_03: Evan Stewart's gonna be the transfer at Oregon to if they win the national championship, he's gonna be one of the major difference makers who's gonna get a lot of airtime because I really like him a lot.
- 40:53SPEAKER_03: Well, hush up, Siri.
- 40:55SPEAKER_03: All right, uh, let's keep it rolling.
- 40:56SPEAKER_03: Uh G5 team is getting the auto bid.
- 40:58SPEAKER_03: This year, the first year, the top-ranked uh G5 champion will get an automatic bid to the playoff.
- 41:04SPEAKER_03: We don't know what the seeding is, but we know they'll get in.
- 41:07SPEAKER_03: Uh stake your claim, who do you who do you got?
- 41:08SPEAKER_03: I think you already said it, but who you got going?
- 41:11SPEAKER_00: Uh, I didn't I didn't pick a team specifically, but I'd really like to see Memphis there.
- 41:15SPEAKER_00: I think their schedule adds up, and um, it's not gonna be Liberty because their their schedule is too soft.
- 41:21SPEAKER_00: I could see Appalachian State, which would be fun.
- 41:24SPEAKER_00: Um, but I think Memphis is gonna have more um quality wins on their resume.
- 41:30SPEAKER_00: I could even see them potentially um slipping up a little bit.
- 41:35SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 41:36SPEAKER_00: Uh and and and still winning and making the playoff.
- 41:39SPEAKER_03: Very nice.
- 41:40SPEAKER_03: I like that.
- 41:41SPEAKER_03: So I was went back and forth between South Florida and Boise State.
- 41:44SPEAKER_03: South Florida's bringing back uh Byron Brown, the quarterback, who actually had a great year.
- 41:48SPEAKER_03: I couldn't believe he actually stayed there.
- 41:49SPEAKER_03: I think it's a humongous win for South Florida to bring it back.
- 41:52SPEAKER_03: They're bringing back return returning production.
- 41:54SPEAKER_03: I did not go with them, I went with Boise.
- 41:56SPEAKER_03: Boise's gonna win the Mountain West, which I think is probably the best group of five conferences here, either them or the American.
- 42:02SPEAKER_03: Um uh Ashton Genty, I think is an all-American running back to have a great year.
- 42:06SPEAKER_03: And Maddox Maxson, who actually beat out Malachi Nelson, the former USC five-star quarterback, is really, really good.
- 42:11SPEAKER_03: Boise's gonna score a bajillion points on offense, and I think they're gonna, I think they've got a shot to go undefeated as well.
- 42:17SPEAKER_03: Um, give me Boise State, give me the blue turf, give me the Smurfs making the playoff uh in uh the G5 championship.
- 42:25SPEAKER_03: Uh ready to move on?
- 42:26SPEAKER_03: Move on to Heisman.
- 42:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, let's keep rolling.
- 42:29SPEAKER_03: Uh cool.
- 42:29SPEAKER_03: So we're gonna what we're gonna do is Mike and I are gonna pick two uh Heisman people, two Heisman candidates who are changing a win.
- 42:34SPEAKER_03: We're gonna give you somebody who is ranked in the top one through ten um overall rankings, and then a long shot.
- 42:40SPEAKER_03: Uh Dylan, the the the listed favorites as of whenever I made this list, Dylan Gabriel, Carson Beck, Ewers, Jalen Moore, Jackson Dart, Will Howard, Nico Ilamiyava.
- 42:48SPEAKER_03: Nico Amaliava.
- 42:50SPEAKER_03: Thank you.
- 42:50SPEAKER_03: Garrett Nessmeyer, Cam Warden, Riley Letter.
- 42:52SPEAKER_03: 10 quarterbacks.
- 42:53SPEAKER_03: Who knew?
- 42:54SPEAKER_03: I'm so surprised.
- 42:55SPEAKER_03: Um, so we're gonna talk about that.
- 42:57SPEAKER_03: Uh, I'm gonna stick with uh the kind of horse I've already kind of hitched my wagon to.
- 43:01SPEAKER_03: Give me Carson back.
- 43:02SPEAKER_03: He's number two uh in terms of odds at plus 750 at time of recording.
- 43:07SPEAKER_03: He's gonna be number one pick.
- 43:08SPEAKER_03: He's gonna be the best, he's gonna be the best quarterback on the best team.
- 43:10SPEAKER_03: If he wins a national championship, if he goes 12 and one, whatever it is, I got him winning it all.
- 43:16SPEAKER_03: Uh for my long shot, I'll go with Ollie Gordon at 150 to one.
- 43:20SPEAKER_03: 3,000 yards, Barry Sanders, bring it back.
- 43:24SPEAKER_03: Let's do it.
- 43:24SPEAKER_03: Let's get running back.
- 43:25SPEAKER_03: Let's give him that trophy again.
- 43:27SPEAKER_03: Uh, give me your top 10 pick and give me your long shot.
- 43:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I would say um, based on my Oregon pick, I got to go Dylan Gabriel.
- 43:35SPEAKER_00: I mean, he's like one of the kind of a no-brainer.
- 43:38SPEAKER_00: Um, I was gonna say Ali Gordon.
- 43:40SPEAKER_00: Um, so I've got to go in a different direction.
- 43:43SPEAKER_00: I will go for a long shot.
- 43:46SPEAKER_00: Give me Treyvon Henderson.
- 43:49SPEAKER_00: If Ohio State has a really strong year, uh, they're gonna have to lean on him a lot, even if they miss out on a national championship.
- 43:56SPEAKER_00: I as kind of the the running back behind Ali Gordon in mind, he's he's right there.
- 44:01SPEAKER_00: So give me Trayvon Henderson.
- 44:03SPEAKER_03: I like that pick as well.
- 44:04SPEAKER_03: I think there's the Trevion.
- 44:05SPEAKER_03: The only reason I didn't pick the Ohio State one running backs, I think they are gonna get bajillion yards, is that I'm worried about them splitting time because Quinshawn Judson is gonna get a lot of carries as well.
- 44:15SPEAKER_03: If if it weren't for Judkins, or if it was just Judkins and not Trivion Henderson, I'd be easy to pick an Ohio State running back because I don't know they're gonna trust Will Howard a lot, especially not early.
- 44:24SPEAKER_03: So I expect that defense in that run game to rack up a bajillion yards.
- 44:27SPEAKER_03: I like as a long shot, I think you probably get good value.
- 44:30SPEAKER_03: Go ahead and give you Trivion Henderson.
- 44:31SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 44:32SPEAKER_00: No, I really like that.
- 44:33SPEAKER_00: Um, that's a good call out because they probably will split a lot of time to keep them healthy and keep them sustained throughout the year.
- 44:39SPEAKER_00: Whereas Ollie Gordon is going to get a bajillion carries.
- 44:41SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it also might not matter.
- 44:42SPEAKER_03: Or Ohio State might run for 40 touchdowns this year.
- 44:45SPEAKER_03: I mean, they might rush, they legitimately might rush for 40, 50 touchdowns this year if the rush if the run game is that good.
- 44:50SPEAKER_03: And the O-line comes together, which we talked about being a potential question mark, but it might be pretty good too.
- 44:55SPEAKER_03: All right, moving on.
- 44:56SPEAKER_03: So every season, I think 28 of the last 30 years, there has been a team in the AP top 10 that has finished the season unranked.
- 45:04SPEAKER_03: Last year, it was USC, which I correctly predicted.
- 45:07SPEAKER_03: Ding, ding, ding, win for me.
- 45:09SPEAKER_03: So I'm going to list you the top 10 in the AP right now.
- 45:12SPEAKER_03: And the question is which one of these is going to dramatically fall short of expectations and fall out?
- 45:16SPEAKER_03: Georgia 1, Ohio State 2, Oregon 3, Texas 4, Alabama 5, Ole Miss 6, Notre Dame, 7, Penn State, 8, Michigan, 9, Missouri, 10.
- 45:25SPEAKER_03: Of those, who's going to fall all the way out?
- 45:30SPEAKER_00: That is extremely difficult.
- 45:32SPEAKER_00: I think in previous years we've had a little bit better idea on where this might land.
- 45:40SPEAKER_00: I think we both uh correctly predicted um Southern Cal last year.
- 45:44SPEAKER_00: I think, you know, if if push back against the wall, when you look at that group, the only one that I could really see as an outlier, maybe Penn State.
- 45:53SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 45:54SPEAKER_00: Um Missouri's schedule is too soft.
- 45:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Michigan, uh, I think is is is good enough.
- 46:01SPEAKER_00: Uh Ohio State potentially, because they've got to play a little bit tougher schedule than usual.
- 46:06SPEAKER_00: Um, Texas and Bama should be there.
- 46:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, just for lack of a better choice, I gotta go Penn State.
- 46:12SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 46:13SPEAKER_03: I that that that's that's not a bad pick at all.
- 46:15SPEAKER_03: Um, I I think so well.
- 46:17SPEAKER_03: Uh I'm gonna go really spicy take here.
- 46:20SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna go Alabama.
- 46:22SPEAKER_03: Uh, so there is a world.
- 46:24SPEAKER_03: Look, Alabama's really good.
- 46:26SPEAKER_03: Caitlin Bohr's a really good coach.
- 46:28SPEAKER_03: Jalen Milrow has proven himself to be a I'm I'm looking on skeptically.
- 46:35SPEAKER_03: There, they just lost the king.
- 46:38SPEAKER_03: They just lost the greatest coach in college football history.
- 46:42SPEAKER_03: There is a world where there and there's an e I think there's an early test where they're I think they're playing Texas or the Alabama's got a really tough game.
- 46:48SPEAKER_03: I know they play, they host Georgia, they play LSU.
- 46:51SPEAKER_03: There's another game in early in Alabama schedule, like where things are pretty tough.
- 46:54SPEAKER_03: If they start to show splinters, cracks early and things go wrong, you're telling me there's a world where the Board of Trustees, the fan base, they don't get super irrational.
- 47:04SPEAKER_03: They don't start don't I mean like what what Dick Saban had all the leash in the world because he earned it.
- 47:10SPEAKER_03: I don't think Calen De Boer has anything like that.
- 47:12SPEAKER_03: And I think those Alabama fans, for all their credit, they're gonna get real punchy real fast.
- 47:17SPEAKER_03: They're gonna be breathing down Calen DeVore's neck right away.
- 47:20SPEAKER_03: I think there's a lot of people.
- 47:22SPEAKER_00: I hear you.
- 47:22SPEAKER_00: I hear what you're saying, but they still have the best the best roster in college football based on team talent composite.
- 47:33SPEAKER_00: So it's not and and and Deborah's shown that he can do it uh with with quite a bit less.
- 47:38SPEAKER_00: Uh so where's the where's the issue for you?
- 47:42SPEAKER_00: Uh just to hold your feet to the fire a little bit more.
- 47:46SPEAKER_03: Sure.
- 47:46SPEAKER_03: So I mean I mean, also what we're what we're actually talking about is they have to lose four regular season games.
- 47:51SPEAKER_03: That's that's where they are.
- 47:52SPEAKER_03: So the losable games are Auburn, Oklahoma, LSU, Missouri, Tennessee, Georgia, maybe Wisconsin.
- 48:01SPEAKER_03: Um at Wisconsin, probably not Camp Raya.
- 48:04SPEAKER_03: Uh my prediction is they are going to drop four of them.
- 48:07SPEAKER_03: Georgia, LSU, Tennessee, and Oklahoma.
- 48:12SPEAKER_03: If they finish the season eight and four, they go to a, they get, they get they get put in some some bowl game, which is eight and four is out to the playoff.
- 48:20SPEAKER_03: They don't show up, which is what would happen.
- 48:22SPEAKER_03: If they honestly, if Alabama missed the playoffs and went eight and four, there is a real, very real uh reason to believe that they would be unmotivated going into the let's say Citrus Bowl, and they lose to a really excited Notre Dame team 10 states, somebody, whoever, somebody who really wants to be there.
- 48:39SPEAKER_03: They finish eight and five, they finish unranked.
- 48:41SPEAKER_03: My prediction, Alabama bottoms out.
- 48:44SPEAKER_03: I just really want it to happen, so I'm gonna will it into existence, Mike.
- 48:47SPEAKER_00: Well, I've been smiling this whole time because I love this world that you're living in.
- 48:51SPEAKER_00: Um, a lot of people have them back in the college football playoffs, back contending for a national championship.
- 48:57SPEAKER_00: Um, I could see it happening.
- 48:58SPEAKER_00: I love your reasoning.
- 49:00SPEAKER_00: Um, there, you know, sometimes these things don't gel right away.
- 49:03SPEAKER_00: I do think that they've got talent in all the right places.
- 49:06SPEAKER_00: And um, but when you look at those top teams, when you look at some of the scheduling, they might have one of the tougher schedules of of anybody, any of the teams on that list.
- 49:18SPEAKER_00: Um, so I do like you know some of some aspects of that.
- 49:21SPEAKER_00: Um, and that's a better argument than uh me picking Penn State for lack of a better option.
- 49:27SPEAKER_00: So good for you.
- 49:29SPEAKER_03: I I already hung my hat, I already I already attached my uh wagon to Ole Miss and Michigan, so I can't do that.
- 49:33SPEAKER_03: And we've we both agree that Missouri just doesn't have four losable games on the football schedule.
- 49:38SPEAKER_03: So that's so that's really not gonna happen.
- 49:40SPEAKER_03: The other reason the only other I think the other thing that would be key to this prophecy, prophecy I called it, coming true.
- 49:46SPEAKER_03: Um, Michael Penix is one of the best pocket packers we've seen in a long time.
- 49:50SPEAKER_03: Caitlin de Boer did an outstanding job of maximizing his skill he had.
- 49:53SPEAKER_03: Jalen Milrow is not that guy.
- 49:55SPEAKER_03: He throws a nice deep ball.
- 49:57SPEAKER_03: Very good, but very good.
- 49:58SPEAKER_03: He throws a nice deep ball, he scrambles really, really well.
- 50:01SPEAKER_03: He's he's good off script.
- 50:03SPEAKER_03: Are we sure?
- 50:04SPEAKER_03: Are we convinced that Kaelin De Boer is going to be able to pivot his offense to the point where he can get Jalen the best out of Jalen Jalen Milrow?
- 50:14SPEAKER_03: Like, I think there's a world where that goes sour, especially early.
- 50:17SPEAKER_03: If it goes, if it goes sour early, but things crack, that's where that's what it would take.
- 50:22SPEAKER_00: And we have seen, I mean, almost a countless number of coaches um ride the coattails of one you know superstar generational quarterback onto a better job and then not not succeed there, which I'm not I don't think that's the case with DeVore.
- 50:37SPEAKER_00: I think he's actually got the goods, which I think scares me a little bit.
- 50:40SPEAKER_00: Um, and I hate to say it, but um, but yeah, we'll see.
- 50:44SPEAKER_00: Uh that's a good take.
- 50:45SPEAKER_00: Good take.
- 50:46SPEAKER_00: I like it.
- 50:46SPEAKER_03: All right, we got to keep rolling.
- 50:47SPEAKER_03: Uh, so we we were gonna do something about the nine through 12 playoffs, but it was a little too obscure, so we're not gonna do it.
- 50:52SPEAKER_03: So I'm just gonna bring it up.
- 50:53SPEAKER_03: I think the coolest thing that's new that's happening this year are the four playoff games, the five, six, seven, and eight seats hosting the nine, 10, 11, 12 scene for a home playoff game for the first time in Division I FBS football history.
- 51:06SPEAKER_03: I can't wait to see these playoff games on television or the vibe.
- 51:10SPEAKER_03: I think it's gonna be just amazing.
- 51:11SPEAKER_03: Um, what do you what's your take?
- 51:14SPEAKER_03: What do you think is gonna happen?
- 51:15SPEAKER_03: What would you like to see as you said?
- 51:16SPEAKER_03: What are you looking forward to?
- 51:18SPEAKER_00: Well, this is without a doubt the best immediate result of the college football playoff expansion.
- 51:24SPEAKER_00: Curious.
- 51:24SPEAKER_00: Um, yes.
- 51:26SPEAKER_00: Right now, point blank.
- 51:28SPEAKER_00: Uh having bowl games in these big, you know, big kind of empty feeling, no atmosphere or vibe, yeah, uh NFL stadiums.
- 51:38SPEAKER_00: That's just not what college football is about.
- 51:40SPEAKER_00: This this idea, that's what college football is about.
- 51:44SPEAKER_00: And it's gotta be awesome.
- 51:46SPEAKER_00: Seeing these teams host these rival, these fan bases from other conferences that you know would never play a regular season there for you know, potentially all the marbles down the road is gonna create an atmosphere like we've never seen before.
- 52:00SPEAKER_00: And it's gonna be awesome.
- 52:01SPEAKER_00: And it's gonna give back to the fans, which is one of the things that is lacking.
- 52:06SPEAKER_00: I mean, championship games that are just these like kind of sterile corporate environments, these are gonna have like students there.
- 52:15SPEAKER_00: I mean, that's what it's about.
- 52:16SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 52:16SPEAKER_03: And no disrespect to the nice stadiums in Dallas, Indianapolis, Atlanta, New Orleans, all these places are cool, but they're nothing compared to Athens, to Columbus, to South Bend, to Happy Valley, where like college football is like supposed to be played.
- 52:30SPEAKER_03: So it's really great.
- 52:31SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna add a bonus uh bold prediction.
- 52:33SPEAKER_03: They're gonna switch the playoffs to 16 teams to get four more of these.
- 52:38SPEAKER_03: And then we're gonna see eventually at some point, I don't know when, we're gonna see one through eight hosting because nine through sixteen.
- 52:45SPEAKER_03: I think these are gonna be lightning in a bottle immediately.
- 52:47SPEAKER_03: I will say I have this weird conspiracy theory that I think there's gonna be a chance where like an LSU or a Tennessee makes the playoff, probably doesn't win the SEC, but has a good season, nine and three, ten and two sneaks in.
- 52:58SPEAKER_03: We are going to be one of those seeds, and we are going to have to go to uh Penn State, uh Michigan, uh Columbus, out in Oregon.
- 53:07SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 53:08SPEAKER_03: Somewhere where in late December, January, it's going to be cold.
- 53:13SPEAKER_03: It's going to be like, and there's a there is a world where the SEC might get exposed a little bit, you know, like there might be there's a most of the time these postseason games are in these domes, these comfortable air-conditioned domes.
- 53:25SPEAKER_03: Like, I don't know about how you feel about Nico playing in 17 degrees at night in Happy Valley.
- 53:31SPEAKER_03: I'm not, I'm not, I don't love the idea of as a fan.
- 53:34SPEAKER_00: I think it's awesome.
- 53:35SPEAKER_00: I mean, correct.
- 53:36SPEAKER_00: I think some of that is a little bit overblown.
- 53:38SPEAKER_00: I think you're if you're a stud, you know, stud athlete football player, um, it doesn't matter a whole lot.
- 53:43SPEAKER_00: I think it's a little overblown.
- 53:45SPEAKER_00: I also think looking down the road, um, there are already murmurings of college football broadcasts going up against the NFL and pulling their season, shifting their season back earlier in the year.
- 54:03SPEAKER_00: So it's starting earlier, it's finishing earlier.
- 54:06SPEAKER_00: Um, and you're accounting for some of those tweaks at the end of the season.
- 54:10SPEAKER_00: If you want to add more games and water down the regular season even more, yeah.
- 54:14SPEAKER_00: Um, so I could see the the schedule shifting, um, which would kind of suck in my opinion.
- 54:21SPEAKER_00: I mean, I don't care about the I mean, I care about the NFL, but if if you've got two games on and one of them's a college football playoff game versus like the Raiders, I'm watching college football.
- 54:31SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah.
- 54:32SPEAKER_03: You and I are in the same.
- 54:32SPEAKER_03: We are the we are on this podcast for that reason.
- 54:34SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 54:35SPEAKER_03: Um, I'm just telling you, it's coming.
- 54:36SPEAKER_03: There's going some somebody from the south, somebody from the SEC is gonna is going to a cold weather.
- 54:42SPEAKER_03: Maybe it's old miss, uh, maybe it's Alabama.
- 54:44SPEAKER_03: Somebody cold is going so somebody, somebody warm is going somewhere cold, and it's going to be the talking point.
- 54:50SPEAKER_03: And I just I can't wait to see it.
- 54:52SPEAKER_00: It'll be the talking point, and it'll end up having very little impact on the actual game.
- 54:57SPEAKER_03: I'm not so sure about that.
- 54:58SPEAKER_03: We'll see.
- 54:58SPEAKER_03: All right, we gotta keep it rolling.
- 54:59SPEAKER_00: Put on some long sleeves and they'll be fine.
- 55:01SPEAKER_03: Put some under armor on, rub your hands together.
- 55:03SPEAKER_03: They're not gonna have the little hand pouches, they got a little hot hands, yeah.
- 55:05SPEAKER_03: It'll be all right.
- 55:06SPEAKER_03: Hot hands, hot hands.
- 55:07SPEAKER_03: All right, last bit we gotta we're podcast running long here, a little homer time.
- 55:11SPEAKER_03: So we're just gonna offer you a quick overall prediction of what we expect from our four teams.
- 55:16SPEAKER_03: Or we're gonna tell you about the betting lines, over-unders.
- 55:18SPEAKER_03: This isn't really the point.
- 55:19SPEAKER_03: The point is just to kind of give put you in context what's expected out of the sharps and what we think is gonna happen.
- 55:25SPEAKER_03: Let's go ahead and start with LSU.
- 55:26SPEAKER_03: LSU's over-under, uh, nine and a half, uh, way juice to the under.
- 55:30SPEAKER_03: So Vegas is expecting less.
- 55:32SPEAKER_03: So Vegas is expecting arguably a nine and three, eight and four season.
- 55:36SPEAKER_03: I honestly think that prediction is pretty good.
- 55:38SPEAKER_03: I love my Tigers.
- 55:39SPEAKER_03: I'm excited.
- 55:40SPEAKER_03: We just have too much on defense that we have to figure out this year.
- 55:43SPEAKER_03: We are thin defensive tackle.
- 55:45SPEAKER_03: We have a lot of questions at cornerback.
- 55:48SPEAKER_03: Um, and while I love that all the new hires, Blake Baker, defensive coordinator and linebackers coach, Bo Davis, defensive line coach from Texas, just turned those guys into first rounders.
- 55:56SPEAKER_03: Corey Raymond, defensive backcourt, uh, defensive back coach, who's had a long career at LSU coming back for his uh latest stint with us.
- 56:04SPEAKER_03: LSU's defense has been our calling card for 20 years.
- 56:07SPEAKER_03: I don't think it's gonna be this year.
- 56:08SPEAKER_03: I'm not worried at all about our offense.
- 56:10SPEAKER_03: I know it's running back by committee.
- 56:12SPEAKER_03: I know Garrett Nuss is new.
- 56:13SPEAKER_03: I know our wide receivers lost two first rounders.
- 56:16SPEAKER_03: Nick Saban's right.
- 56:17SPEAKER_03: Louisiana just has guys.
- 56:19SPEAKER_03: We're gonna have spill just guys.
- 56:21SPEAKER_03: I'm expecting Brian Kelly's offense to do really well.
- 56:23SPEAKER_03: I don't love our defense, so I'm thinking we're probably a nine and three, eight and four type season, frankly.
- 56:29SPEAKER_00: See, I'm looking at LSU and I'm thinking right at nine wins, probably.
- 56:34SPEAKER_00: And I can see it going to ten.
- 56:35SPEAKER_00: My concern is that last year Jaden was the Jaden Daniels show.
- 56:42SPEAKER_00: And if it weren't for him doing putting the Superman cape on his back, um, that could have been a disaster of a year.
- 56:51SPEAKER_00: How much does the defense improve?
- 56:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and can Nussmeyer be even a shadow of of what Daniels was last year?
- 56:59SPEAKER_00: Um, and so you know, they're they have a lot to clean up on because they don't have a Jaden Daniels at at quarterback.
- 57:05SPEAKER_00: So, but that being said, I still think like you you mentioned, the overall talent um still gets you to nine or 10.
- 57:12unknown: Yeah.
- 57:12SPEAKER_03: Uh Tennessee over uh under eight and a half, weight juice way to the over at minus 172 under 140.
- 57:18SPEAKER_03: So alternatively, Vegas is expecting Tennessee to go nine and three, ten and two.
- 57:23SPEAKER_03: Um uh this season reminds me a lot of two years ago.
- 57:27SPEAKER_03: Um, I you know, I'm trying not to put too much pressure on Nico.
- 57:31SPEAKER_03: I'm making making the hooker comparison, Hayden Hooker with a phenomenal year.
- 57:36SPEAKER_03: Um, I think it looks a lot really, really similar.
- 57:39SPEAKER_03: I think Tennessee's skill possession guys are really good.
- 57:41SPEAKER_03: I think the defensive back secondary is going to be kind of what we were talking about.
- 57:45SPEAKER_03: The the question.
- 57:46SPEAKER_03: Um, I'm bullish on Tennessee.
- 57:48SPEAKER_03: I like 10 and 2 for them, so I'm I'm going over on that win total, but I'll let you say more things.
- 57:53SPEAKER_03: What do you think?
- 57:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's really hard for me not to get overly excited about the roster this year.
- 57:59SPEAKER_00: Looking at that eight and five, I'm like shocked.
- 58:02SPEAKER_00: I this is an easy 10-and-2 team for me with with potential to to do even better than that.
- 58:08SPEAKER_00: You know, you've got what most people would would look at as maybe built-in losses against Alabama and Georgia.
- 58:15SPEAKER_00: Not even um, but yeah, we host we're you know, we host Bama in Nealand.
- 58:20SPEAKER_00: Um you know, you mentioned that.
- 58:22SPEAKER_00: I had that go last time that happened.
- 58:23SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 58:24SPEAKER_00: You mentioned Hannon Hooker, and frankly, Nico has more talent, higher ceiling than Hooker ever did.
- 58:30SPEAKER_00: Uh, I know he is young, but you know, he he has the goods.
- 58:35SPEAKER_00: I'm not I'm not worried about whether he has the talent and or whether he's ready.
- 58:40SPEAKER_00: This is the deepest defensive um side of the football that we've ever had since since Heubb's been there.
- 58:46SPEAKER_00: And we've got a fully experienced offensive line and probably the deepest wide receiver room.
- 58:51SPEAKER_00: Uh, so I am I'm completely bullish.
- 58:54SPEAKER_00: Give me Tennessee with the over uh eight and a half easily.
- 58:57SPEAKER_03: Love it.
- 58:58SPEAKER_03: Uh Virginia Tech uh over eight and a half.
- 59:00SPEAKER_03: Uh this line, this line moved a lot.
- 59:02SPEAKER_03: It was seven and a half when I looked at it back in May.
- 59:04SPEAKER_03: It's still juicy over, minus 128, under is plus 102.
- 59:08SPEAKER_03: I got Virginia Tech winning 10 games.
- 59:09SPEAKER_03: I think they're gonna be favored in all, I think they're gonna be favored in every game but two.
- 59:14SPEAKER_03: The Clemson game at home and the Miami game away.
- 59:16SPEAKER_03: And the rest of those just they're gonna be a really good team.
- 59:18SPEAKER_03: I love what you said about uh their uh transfer portal.
- 59:22SPEAKER_03: The defensive line got really thick.
- 59:23SPEAKER_03: I think they have the best, uh uh Dorian Strong and Mansor, I think, are the two best cornerback tandem in the ACC.
- 59:30SPEAKER_03: Um really bullish on Virginia Tech.
- 59:33SPEAKER_03: Schedule plays really well.
- 59:34SPEAKER_03: I think they're gonna uh beat the brakes off of Vanderbilt in week one because everyone beats the brakes off of Vanderbilt in week one.
- 59:40SPEAKER_03: Um, so but give me the over on Virginia Tech, just as a general thing.
- 59:44SPEAKER_03: You and I have been dronies.
- 59:46SPEAKER_03: Uh, we've been calling in drone strikes uh since really since day one.
- 59:49SPEAKER_03: We were on we were on the drone train way before anybody else.
- 59:52SPEAKER_03: Since the way back.
- 59:53SPEAKER_03: Since way back.
- 59:54SPEAKER_03: So give me, give me, uh, give me the hookies over.
- 59:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we've mentioned this on the previous pod, and again, now Virginia Tech's gonna have a fantastic year.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_00: Their schedule it just lines up perfectly.
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_00: Their defense is uh as good as it's been.
- 1:00:07SPEAKER_00: It was already good last year.
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_00: It's gotten even better.
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_00: I think you see this year you really see drones take the next step um to expanding his game and being more of a more comfortable, more of a passer first.
- 1:00:21SPEAKER_00: He's still gonna be a weapon with his legs, he's still gonna have a ton of rushing yards.
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_00: Uh, but I think this is where you see the growth and the next step for him as you see him develop some of that, some more of that downfield passing game.
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_00: They're still gonna have an awesome rush deep rushing um offense that they can lean on.
- 1:00:37SPEAKER_00: And yeah, they're they're yeah, this is an easy over.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_03: And also, you gotta keep in mind, I mean, Rashad Tootin was an absolute workhorse last year.
- 1:00:44SPEAKER_03: I think I really like I really like him a lot.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_03: I was pretty bearish on him going into last year, was wrong.
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_03: He did a great job in his role.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_03: Um, they're also getting a lot of the wide receivers were hurt last year.
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_03: They're getting a bunch of those guys back.
- 1:00:53SPEAKER_03: They have a legitimate trio of three excellent wideouts, which I think is the best wide receiver room tech has seen in a long time.
- 1:00:59SPEAKER_03: So I think we agree there.
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_03: All right, last one UVA over under is four and a half.
- 1:01:04SPEAKER_03: It's it's actually split either way, it's minus one ten uh over, minus one ten over.
- 1:01:08SPEAKER_03: So pretty much four and a half.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_03: Vegas seems to think is right there.
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_03: I'm over on uh UVA as well.
- 1:01:15SPEAKER_03: So three overs and one under.
- 1:01:16SPEAKER_03: Of course, I'm under on my team.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_03: Um, so we already talked about Calandria, we talked about Malachi Fields, one of the outwise can be one of the best playmakers out wide.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_03: Uh, we like Chris Tyree, we like Andre Green, we like Kobe Pace, the running back.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_03: What you don't know is that uh UVA's defense last year was abysmal, and it wasn't really supposed to be.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_03: Jeffrey Dazinsky, the uh four defensive coordinator who moved over from uh Air Force is actually a pretty good defensive coordinator in year one of Tony Elliott's regime, their defense played well.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_03: Everybody thought that it was going to be the offensive show, Tony Elliott and uh from coming from Clemson, but it wasn't.
- 1:01:48SPEAKER_03: It was the defense.
- 1:01:49SPEAKER_03: Last year, a ton of those guys got hurt, which obviously last year meant the bottom kind of fell out, but it also meant that a lot of guys that weren't supposed to get snaps did.
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_03: Too long didn't read.
- 1:01:59SPEAKER_03: Here's the point UVA is going to get to six wins this year because their defense is going to be better than anybody is talking about.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_03: I think the pass rush is gonna get a lot better.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_03: I think Jonas Senkar is an absolute phenomenal free safety, and one that I think he's on most all ACC first team or second team lists.
- 1:02:15SPEAKER_03: Very, very good.
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_03: Um, I expect this defense to be worlds better, and that's going to be the difference, which you're gonna get them to six and six, get them a bowl, get Tony Elliott that extra time, wao wah.
- 1:02:25SPEAKER_03: Let's sing the graduation song for some touchdowns.
- 1:02:27SPEAKER_03: That's what I got.
- 1:02:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I like it.
- 1:02:30SPEAKER_00: And their schedule plays out favorably for them.
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_00: I'm agree with, I'm gonna agree with you at the over on four and a half.
- 1:02:36SPEAKER_00: They're gonna start with Richmond, uh, then Wake Forest, Maryland, Coastal Carolina, Boston College, Louisville.
- 1:02:42SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's not exactly a who's who of college football.
- 1:02:46SPEAKER_00: Plenty of time to ease into the schedule, and they don't even have to win all of those to get to the over.
- 1:02:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah, um, they still have Pittsburgh down the stretch.
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_00: Um that's probably their most winnable game down the stretch, but um, yeah, I could easily see them winning.
- 1:03:01SPEAKER_00: My prediction would be five, not not quite getting to six, but where's the Louisville game?
- 1:03:05SPEAKER_03: Is that a home or away?
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_00: Does it say um Scott Stadium?
- 1:03:10SPEAKER_03: Okay, I like that.
- 1:03:10SPEAKER_03: I think Louisville's pretty good.
- 1:03:11SPEAKER_03: I think Jeff, I think Jeff you and I both like Jeff Ross, the former Purdue coach.
- 1:03:15SPEAKER_03: Um, I think that's gonna be that's gonna be a tough game.
- 1:03:17SPEAKER_03: I think if they beat if they beat Louisville, that's a huge swing game.
- 1:03:20SPEAKER_03: So is the Maryland game, which I'm planning, actually planning on attending.
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_03: I'm hoping to be at the UVA Maryland game.
- 1:03:24SPEAKER_03: So you'll get some Mike Blitz coverage from the sideline.
- 1:03:27SPEAKER_03: All right, we've been talking way too long.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_03: We have to get off this podcast.
- 1:03:30SPEAKER_03: Um, any closing thoughts before we bow out of this thing?
