- 0:00As always, we catch up with Jono to talk AFL. Jono, good to talk again.
- 0:05Cam, great to hear your voice. How are you? Very well, thanks.
- 0:08Now, last weekend, Frio remained top of the table with a good win over your Cats.
- 0:13Yeah, it was a great win by the Dockers and their inaccuracy in front of goal,
- 0:17particularly in the first and second quarters, probably flattered the Cats and
- 0:21kept Geelong in the game, Cam.
- 0:22They missed shots that normally they would kick and they went from boundary
- 0:27line either. They were mostly in front of goal where they should have kicked
- 0:29them and then the Cats would run down the other end and kick one themselves.
- 0:33And the Cats at one point kicked six on the trot cam and they were looking pretty
- 0:36good, but it was purely just on the back of Freo missing at the other end.
- 0:40And the Gold Coast Suns once again slumped to another loss and they're in danger
- 0:44of falling out the bottom of the wildcard round.
- 0:47Yeah, they certainly are. And that's four on the trot losses post-Darwin this year, Cam.
- 0:52So that's their worst record of any of their returns from the Darwin venture.
- 0:56But yeah, the Hawks are too strong in the end. And they were thereabouts of
- 0:59Gold Coast Suns, but just lacked polish and class in the end.
- 1:03Well, they've got a tough ass this weekend. They're up against the Dockers,
- 1:06but we'll get to that in a few moments. Crows, another win, this time over Melbourne.
- 1:11Yeah, the Crows have finally got their season going, Cam. As you will remember,
- 1:14I did pick them for the flag at the start of the year, so they've got a bit of work to do.
- 1:18But they're starting to string some wins on the board, and they're looking pretty
- 1:21impressive. And the Ds, as we know, they're no easy beats.
- 1:25Certainly not. Now, the Blues 88, GWS 65. Help me understand what's going on
- 1:31with the GWS Giants this season.
- 1:33I don't know, Cam. They're probably now turning into, which was,
- 1:37we could say Carlton had been the most disappointing side thus far,
- 1:41but they've gone on to win five on the trot under Josh Fraser.
- 1:45But I think the Giants have now taken over the mantle as being the most disappointing return thus far.
- 1:52And Collingwood, 78, 26-point winners over Port Adelaide. Port Adelaide struggling
- 1:57in their first season without Ken Hinckley?
- 2:00Yeah, they are. But I actually thought they would have been a little bit closer.
- 2:03And at one point, they were probably three or four goals up on Collingwood in this game.
- 2:08It didn't help big fella Asafa Radigalia going down with an ACL injury during
- 2:14the game. is a key to their defense.
- 2:17But as we said last week, they have lost five games caught by under three points
- 2:21this year, so they haven't been too far away.
- 2:24And with the Pies, Darcy Moore, are we likely to see him back this season?
- 2:28Oh, you just don't know with Darcy. He's in and out, in and out.
- 2:32And if they can get him back up and running, hopefully we see him again because
- 2:36he's a key for their defence. But the way he goes, he's likely to do a calf
- 2:40or a hamstring on his return, which has generally been the norm for him this year, the poor fella.
- 2:44Yeah, that's no good. Now, we spoke about the Suns in danger of dropping out
- 2:48of the wildcard contention, but the North Melbourne Kangaroos,
- 2:52with their win over the Tigers, are now in wildcard contention. They are.
- 2:57I'm not sure how much damage they can do if they sneak into that spot.
- 3:01I did watch the first half of this game, Cam, before I had to turn it off.
- 3:04It was the most deplorable skill level I've ever seen by both sides.
- 3:11And I think there's been quite a bit of discussion in relation to the first
- 3:14half of this game this week through the media. It just did not look like AFL standard.
- 3:19Yeah, I suppose I'm talking about the Roos picking up the four points,
- 3:22but if you can't beat Richmond the way they're going at the moment,
- 3:25it wouldn't have been good signs. And Bulldogs in the last game of the round.
- 3:29Bulldogs had a 22-point win over Saints.
- 3:32Yeah, the Doggies got it done. They weren't overly impressive.
- 3:35They jumped the Saints and kicked the first three.
- 3:38The Saints are staring down the barrel at some tough few weeks ahead.
- 3:42Captain Jeff Sinclair has done a calf and will miss the rest of the season.
- 3:46Their multi-million dollar recruit, Tom DeConing, who broke two ribs and punched
- 3:52a lung, so he'll be out for a couple of weeks at least.
- 3:54And their other ruckman, Roel Marshall, who's key to their side,
- 3:58also went down with a shoulder injury and he'll most likely miss this week as
- 4:01well. So there's some concerns there at the Saints.
- 4:05What did he say? He broke two ribs and punched his lung.
- 4:08Yeah, which is the, I wasn't aware
- 4:10of this, but it's the second time he's punched a lung in three years.
- 4:14So he'll be quite painful. It's very painful. And it sort of takes us back to
- 4:18the Christian Petrarca situation the year before. He actually went back on the
- 4:21ground after halftime, but obviously couldn't cope and off he came. So...
- 4:27Yeah, interesting. I thought you were going to say it took us back to Rick Disnick.
- 4:31Yeah, I can. Well, Daryl.
- 4:35Buys for the round, Lions, Bombers, Swans and West Coast.
- 4:40Having a look at the ladder, Frio's still up top. Anything else that you think's
- 4:43worthy of highlighting?
- 4:45I think that my cats need to be careful from here. It's a bit of a log jam between.
- 4:50The Hawks sit on 38 and from fourth down to seventh, all sitting on 36 points.
- 4:55So, yeah, it's starting to get tight and the Pies are now putting themselves back into contention.
- 5:01You'd think they'd get another win, which we'll talk about shortly.
- 5:04So, they might jump into the top 10 if North miss out.
- 5:09Well, let's talk about round 16. Thursday night, Lions and Swans.
- 5:12It's been played at the Gabba.
- 5:14Yeah, this is massive. This is a toss of the coin for the round cam, this one.
- 5:19I'm going to tip the Lions. There's not a great deal of confidence,
- 5:22but I just, purely the fact they've won the last two flags, and they're at home.
- 5:26The Swans have got Tom McCartan back, key defender who suffered concussion a couple of weeks ago.
- 5:32And they also welcome back their absolute gun, Errol Goulden,
- 5:36who did his shoulder, might have been the second or third game of the year and
- 5:39has missed the last three months.
- 5:41And he was actually my tip for the Brownlow this year. So they've got some quality
- 5:44coming back this weekend, the Swans.
- 5:47But I'm just going to favour the Lions and hope they get their season back on track this week.
- 5:52Well, you've just convinced me to back the Swans there. so I'll go the red and the white.
- 5:56Hawthorne, GWS, it's in Melbourne. Hawks, they should win this one given the
- 6:00inconsistency of GWS? Yeah, they should, Cam.
- 6:05Hawthorne at their best can beat anyone and they've got the firepower to do so.
- 6:11As you said, the Giants, they've been battling and they're in consistent form throughout the season.
- 6:15You know, they really haven't had a settled side throughout the year,
- 6:18which doesn't help either. But, yeah, the Hawks will be too strong here.
- 6:2214 v. 16th place on the ladder, but the Blues are going to go into their match
- 6:27against the Eagles as raging hot favourites.
- 6:30Raging hot favourites, Cam. I think they're about $1.14 at present.
- 6:33So purely the fact they've won their last five and they're starting to play
- 6:37the footy that probably the footy world thought they should be doing in the
- 6:40first place, it should be enough to get over the Eagles at Marvel.
- 6:45And our weekly comment, once again, is poor old Michael Voss.
- 6:49Poor old Michael Voss. It's unbelievable, isn't it?
- 6:51And Josh Fraser's actually, you know, has said all along that he's not interested
- 6:55in taking over the job, but with five wins on the trot, it's hard to at least
- 7:01not interview him and say, are you interested?
- 7:04So, on will tell.
- 7:06The G will host Collingwood up against Richmond. Traditional rivals?
- 7:10Most definitely traditional rivals, but neither of these two sides.
- 7:14You know, it was only 2017, 2019, these two sides played off in a preliminary final.
- 7:21So it's not that long ago, but they've obviously both fallen from grace of a
- 7:25fraction, more so the Tigers obviously went to the draft and tried to rebuild their team that way.
- 7:31But the Pies, when they're going, they look pretty good, Collingwood,
- 7:34and they shouldn't have any trouble accounting for Richmond on Saturday night.
- 7:38Yeah, if they would get the win there, that pushes them to 30 points and they're
- 7:41right in contention for wildcard. Most definitely.
- 7:45Battle of Adelaide, Port Adelaide up against the Crows. It's 5v15,
- 7:50but I suppose you just forget where they are on the ladder when these two teams meet in Adelaide.
- 7:54Yeah, the showdown is massive, and it's one of my more favoured games to watch
- 7:59throughout the year because it always dishes up some quality.
- 8:03I have a feeling that the Crows are going to get this one done a little bit
- 8:06more comfortably than they usually would, purely on the back of key injuries to Port.
- 8:12But saying that it is a showdown and Port generally like to get up for these
- 8:16games. So, yeah, time will tell, Cam, but I think the Crows should be too strong.
- 8:21And the Kangaroos should pick themselves up another victory this time against the Bombers?
- 8:27Well, you'd think so, but this could go either way. I was looking at this one
- 8:31earlier, Cam, and I just feel at some point the Bombers are going to win a game
- 8:36and here's an opportunity for them to do so.
- 8:39Whether it eventuates or not, we'll find out on Sunday but I'm going to go out
- 8:43on a limb here and pick the Bombers in.
- 8:45I can't believe it. We're saying we'll be an upset to defeat the Roos.
- 8:50Yeah, well, I'll be backing the Roos in that one. And then Gold Coast Suns,
- 8:53their task just gets harder. They're up against the top of the table, Dockers.
- 8:57Yeah, it does. And I feel as though the Suns can push the Dockers for part of
- 9:02this game, but the Dockers will be too strong, too powerful.
- 9:05And, yeah, they're premiership favourites now, which I never ever thought I'd
- 9:09hear it say that the Fremantle, of the flag favourites but the headlines over
- 9:14in the Western Australian press are flag mantle they're being called so.
- 9:19Yeah, they're going nicely, the Dockers. They don't seem to have too many weaknesses
- 9:22on that selection table.
- 9:25They haven't won a flag yet, have they? No, they lost to Hawthorne in 2013.
- 9:32Yeah, okay. That's when they had the Sandalands playing, wasn't it? Is that the big ruckman?
- 9:36Sandalands and Fife and Pavlich. Yeah, they had some quality out there,
- 9:39and that was their opportunity. They were right in that game,
- 9:42but the Hawks got them in the end.
- 9:44So they haven't had a sniff since. So this is their chance.
- 9:48Round 16, boys, Geelong Cats, Melbourne Demons, St Kilda and the Western Bulldogs.
- 9:54And we can finally say goodbye to the boys after this round, Cam.
- 9:58Goodbye, goodbye. Goodbye and hopefully there is change in the wings.
- 10:04Jono, good to chat as always. Thank you, Cam. Lovely.
