- 0:00Speaker 1: Time now for back to the basics and health care
- 0:01Speaker 1: with Balance Life Chiropractic. We have doctor Harley with us. Hello,
- 0:04Speaker 1: doctor Harley, Hey John. They say it's the most wonderful
- 0:07Speaker 1: time of the year. They are a bunch of liars.
- 0:09Speaker 1: There's snow out there. I don't like that.
- 0:11Speaker 2: I mean, you're probably in the minority right now. It's
- 0:15Speaker 2: always nice having snow run Christmas time. Ah humbug.
- 0:19Speaker 1: No, here's the thing. I think snow is beautiful, but
- 0:21Speaker 1: just a little bit of snow and they can just
- 0:25Speaker 1: show up and then they can leave right away. We
- 0:26Speaker 1: don't need it sitting around all this And then we
- 0:28Speaker 1: got done snow and guess what I did, snowed some more. Right.
- 0:32Speaker 2: You know, I've heard that we might have a pretty
- 0:34Speaker 2: snowy winter, So I'll welcome to your ready John.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Well. For people who like me have gone out and
- 0:39Speaker 1: pushed the snow and maybe even found out that, oh
- 0:42Speaker 1: I'm not as tough as I used to be, it
- 0:44Speaker 1: might be a good idea for them to seek some help,
- 0:47Speaker 1: chiropractic help, and maybe somebody to shovel your sidewalk, but
- 0:50Speaker 1: chiropractic help for sure.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Right. Yeah, If you're someone that's going to be doing
- 0:53Speaker 2: your own snow shoveling snow removal this winter, Seeing a
- 0:57Speaker 2: chiropractor might be a good idea before that next snowstorm.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Now, what are some things that people should know before
- 1:04Speaker 1: they go out and tackle the snow? Are there things
- 1:06Speaker 1: that I can do to make myself maybe a little
- 1:08Speaker 1: less susceptible to problems?
- 1:10Speaker 2: Definitely stretch and warm up, like you're about to go
- 1:13Speaker 2: work out. You might not think of it as a workout,
- 1:15Speaker 2: but you know, depending on how big of an area
- 1:17Speaker 2: you have to move snow, how heavy the snow is,
- 1:20Speaker 2: how much snow we got, it's quite a workout. So
- 1:23Speaker 2: if you haven't done that in a while, definitely good
- 1:26Speaker 2: to get prepared. Do some stretching, you know, get your
- 1:29Speaker 2: muscles warmed up and like, because if you don't and
- 1:32Speaker 2: you go out and you're out there for twenty thirty
- 1:34Speaker 2: minutes in that snow and cold, you're inna tense up,
- 1:36Speaker 2: tighten up, really prone to pulling muscles. You could throw
- 1:41Speaker 2: your back out And that's just immediate things you might notice,
- 1:45Speaker 2: you know, if you don't do that beforehand, and you
- 1:46Speaker 2: go out and do your snow moving and then you
- 1:48Speaker 2: go to bed and sit down, relax for a while
- 1:51Speaker 2: or whatever you're doing. After you move your snow, you're
- 1:53Speaker 2: gonna stand up move. Oh do I hurt so bad
- 1:57Speaker 2: because your muscles are complaining about how much work. You
- 2:00Speaker 2: just put them.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Through and you can take your time. It's not like
- 2:02Speaker 1: there's you know, a race. You're not racing the neighbor.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Even if they're out there and they're going faster than you,
- 2:07Speaker 1: you're not racing them. Just take your time. And then
- 2:10Speaker 1: you were talking about, you know, stretching and warming up,
- 2:12Speaker 1: and I also think make sure you bundle up to
- 2:14Speaker 1: stay warmed up.
- 2:15Speaker 2: That is also true. Yeah, until you start, you know,
- 2:17Speaker 2: sweating and you're hot and one now, then you can
- 2:20Speaker 2: maybe take off a couple of airs. So I'd say
- 2:22Speaker 2: put on lots of layers and then you can take
- 2:23Speaker 2: off those heavier outer layers as you're getting warmed up.
- 2:26Speaker 1: I shared a photo the other day on Facebook from
- 2:29Speaker 1: this is probably five years ago at least, but I
- 2:32Speaker 1: was shoveling the sidewalk. I was wearing crocs and a
- 2:35Speaker 1: swimming suit and a robe, so not surprised. Yeah, that
- 2:38Speaker 1: was quite the sexy look. My wife saw me out
- 2:41Speaker 1: there and doing that. It's like I got to snap
- 2:43Speaker 1: a picture of this idiot. So again, bundle up. It's
- 2:45Speaker 1: a good idea because it's it's safer, but also you'll
- 2:48Speaker 1: feel better too.
- 2:49Speaker 2: And make sure using proper you lifting techniques. Lift with
- 2:53Speaker 2: your legs, not your back as you're pushing moving that snow.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Try not to twist as you're moving it, you know,
- 2:59Speaker 2: just throw it forward as you're moving that snow. If
- 3:02Speaker 2: you're using a shovel.
- 3:03Speaker 1: There you go. And I encourage you to move in
- 3:05Speaker 1: next door to somebody with a snowblower and be nice
- 3:07Speaker 1: to them.
- 3:07Speaker 2: There you go, or are the neighborhood kid.
- 3:09Speaker 1: There you go. That's it's also a very good plan.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Stewart is our neighbor. He is wonderful and we love
- 3:13Speaker 1: him dearly. If somebody listening is going, hey, I don't
- 3:16Speaker 1: have all that, John, but I do have a sore
- 3:18Speaker 1: back from shoveling my sidewalk. How do they connect with you?
- 3:21Speaker 2: As simple as a phone callings a call at six
- 3:24Speaker 2: zero five two one five one seventy eighty five, or
- 3:26Speaker 2: reach out to us on our Facebook page, or even
- 3:28Speaker 2: have a book online option on our website.

- 3:33Speaker 1: website on the Internet. That's where they keep it and
