• 2:42
Speaker 4: us right now. Good morning, sir, and welcome to the show.
• 2:45
Speaker 4: How you doing, my friend?
• 2:47
Speaker 5: I'm fine? How cold is it right now?
• 2:51
  Speaker 2: Hold on?
• 2:52
Speaker 4: It is eighteen right now according to the app on
• 2:57
Speaker 4: my phone, it's eighteen.
• 2:58
Speaker 5: So well. I got a When I was in the
• 3:02
Speaker 5: Marine Corps and got out of parasol. We we thought
• 3:06
Speaker 5: things would slack up. We went to empantry training and
• 3:09
Speaker 5: we trained in in weather colder than this. Really, uh,
• 3:15
Speaker 5: I swore I'd never be cold.
• 3:18
Speaker 4: Well you do spend time in California where you I
• 3:20
Speaker 4: think you're going next week on Thursday. Okay, so you
• 3:23
Speaker 4: will not be here with us next Monday.
• 3:24
Speaker 5: I'll be back Sunday night. Maybe.
• 3:26
Speaker 2: Well okay, well just let me know.
• 3:28
Speaker 4: I'll text you if you're tired and you need to
• 3:30
Speaker 4: sleep in a little bit. I mean, I completely understand
• 3:32
Speaker 4: that the mayor is going to be what this does,
• 3:35
Speaker 4: I said a little bit later on, and uh, uh,
• 3:38
Speaker 4: we've got we've had some messes, uh in Charleston, and
• 3:42
Speaker 4: and not just Charleston, but in other areas with these
• 3:44
Speaker 4: water these water line breaks, water main breaks and this.
• 3:47
Speaker 4: You know, when you have sustained cold like what we have.
• 3:50
Speaker 4: And again it's not exclusive to Charleston. It's happening. There's
• 3:53
Speaker 4: one right down for my house the other day. Didn't
• 3:55
Speaker 4: affect me, but there's one right down for my house
• 3:57
Speaker 4: in Tay's Valley the other day.
• 3:59
  Speaker 2: It's it happens.
• 4:00
Speaker 5: And then when it falls out, in other words, when
• 4:04
Speaker 5: it does warm up, then you have it again. Yeah,
• 4:09
Speaker 5: then pipes start busting again because they fall out. Yeah
• 4:16
Speaker 5: it is. And uh, I still have the restaurant over there,
• 4:20
Speaker 5: it's not open, but I worry about that you know
• 4:23
Speaker 5: about UH about pipe busting over there.
• 4:28
Speaker 4: Now you're one of the folks that's impacted by UH
• 4:31
Speaker 4: with a water outage?
• 4:33
  Speaker 3: Right?
• 4:33
Speaker 2: Did we use on me?
• 4:34
Speaker 5: Can't even of the bathroom?
• 4:36
Speaker 4: I want to that's why you came in early this morning.
• 4:41
Speaker 5: I went to the I go the why to the week.
• 4:45
Speaker 5: I go every morning at five, But this morning I
• 4:48
Speaker 5: took my stuff with me and took a shower up there.
• 4:51
Speaker 4: I thought you were looking awful dapper this morning, and
• 4:54
Speaker 4: for some way that hadn't had a shower. But that's
• 4:55
Speaker 4: just Danny, And what a question I want to ask you,
• 4:58
Speaker 4: And and I mean this and all seriousness. You and
• 4:59
Speaker 4: I a lot of fun on the show, but I
• 5:01
Speaker 4: mean this in all sears. When you were mayor, you
• 5:04
Speaker 4: were known, you know, as quite the immaculate dresser. I
• 5:08
Speaker 4: mean you always had a nice suit and.
• 5:10
Speaker 2: So on and so forth.
• 5:12
Speaker 4: Do you I know you're retired now you don't have
• 5:14
Speaker 4: to dress like that anymore, but you still have the
• 5:16
Speaker 4: suits though, Yeah, okay.
• 5:18
Speaker 5: But I've lost weight since then, and I mean I
• 5:24
Speaker 5: could still wear that stuff, okay, and I can't.
• 5:27
Speaker 2: Well, why would you want to? That's the thing.
• 5:29
  Speaker 5: When you're retired occasionally I will. I mean, if there's
• 5:32
Speaker 5: some event for me to go to that I will
• 5:38
Speaker 5: wear those kind of clothes.
• 5:39
Speaker 4: How many suits did you do you have? I'm just curious.
• 5:43
Speaker 4: Forty forty Okay, Actually I would have thought more.
• 5:47
Speaker 5: No, I had. I gave way a lot of them, right, Yeah,
• 5:51
Speaker 5: I gave them to who is it that's out here
• 5:56
Speaker 5: in the lot John Roberts.
• 6:00
Speaker 2: Uh, oh, Mountain Mission.
• 6:02
Speaker 5: Yeah, I gave it. I gave them a lot of those.
• 6:04
  Speaker 2: Okay, there's a lot.
• 6:05
  Speaker 4: There's a few programs around and I know a Putnam
• 6:07
Speaker 4: County through the Chamber of Commerce, they have one, and
• 6:09
Speaker 4: they have them also in Charleston, uh where they you
• 6:12
Speaker 4: can people can donate there.
• 6:13
  Speaker 6: There.
• 6:14
Speaker 4: It's kind of like a dress for success thing where
• 6:16
Speaker 4: you can because a lot of times when people go
• 6:18
Speaker 4: for job interviews, particularly people that are trying to better
• 6:21
Speaker 4: themselves in the recovery community and so on and so forth,
• 6:23
Speaker 4: they simply don't have the clothes, and.
• 6:25
Speaker 5: So they find a suit that fits them, yeah, and
• 6:29
Speaker 5: put them in those clothes to go for the job interviews.
• 6:32
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 6:33
  Speaker 5: Yeah.
• 6:33
Speaker 4: And it's not always suits. I mean sometimes it's just
• 6:36
Speaker 4: you know, it could be dockers or something. Just so
• 6:38
Speaker 4: you know, I think, I think those programs like that
• 6:40
Speaker 4: are great. I mean, I really really do.
• 6:42
  Speaker 5: But I didn't. I didn't wear a sports coats I
• 6:46
  Speaker 5: worked this.
• 6:47
  Speaker 7: Yeah.
• 6:49
  Speaker 2: Always there's a difference. There's a difference between a suit
• 6:52
  Speaker 2: and a and a sport.
• 6:52
Speaker 5: Code very expensive. Yeah it was. Uh, I spent a
• 6:57
Speaker 5: lot of money on clothes.
• 6:59
Speaker 2: But but you always looked good.
• 7:01
Speaker 4: That was the thing that I always noticed if i'd
• 7:02
Speaker 4: see on TV, if I was in an event, even
• 7:05
Speaker 4: though I didn't really know you, you always just looked
• 7:09
  Speaker 4: the part.
• 7:10
Speaker 5: Samely. When I was sheriff, I always wore, you know,
• 7:16
Speaker 5: really nice clothes, and but.
• 7:19
Speaker 4: You didn't wear a uniform though, did you never?
• 7:22
  Speaker 5: No gun?
• 7:22
Speaker 2: No, nothing like Andy Taylor.
• 7:25
Speaker 5: Do you know that when I became sheriff, they had
• 7:33
Speaker 5: to buy their own guns.
• 7:36
  Speaker 1: Yes?
• 7:36
Speaker 2: He told me that.
• 7:37
Speaker 5: Yeah, I became sheriff. They had to buy their own guns.
• 7:45
Speaker 2: Yes, he told me that.
• 7:46
Speaker 5: Yeah. And we changed that that we issued guns pistols
• 7:53
Speaker 5: to the deputies so they wouldn't have to buy their own, right.
• 7:58
  Speaker 5: And that's I mean, I think it's kind of ridiculous
• 8:03
Speaker 5: that you wouldn't issue.
• 8:05
  Speaker 4: I mean, it's part of the it's it's part of
• 8:07
Speaker 4: the equipment. I mean, in my opinion, it's it's the
• 8:10
Speaker 4: It's the same as a squad car.
• 8:11
Speaker 5: And why should yeah, why shouldn't it be uniform?
• 8:14
  Speaker 8: Right?
• 8:15
Speaker 5: In other words, why should one person have a different
• 8:17
Speaker 5: pistol than the other person. We put cages in the
• 8:21
Speaker 5: we got new we got new cars. We put cages
• 8:27
Speaker 5: in the back of the cars with shotguns. I mean
• 8:30
Speaker 5: we we had we we had a first class operation
• 8:34
Speaker 5: over there. I got involved in skirmishes with the county
• 8:41
Speaker 5: Commission and there was a jail lawsuit going on that
• 8:52
Speaker 5: I settled. And if we hadn't a settled that, if
• 8:58
Speaker 5: we'd allowed the jail to go in receivership, it would
• 9:01
Speaker 5: cost the county two to three million dollars cost Cabal
• 9:06
  Speaker 5: County me and.
• 9:06
Speaker 2: Yeah, I remember that.
• 9:09
Speaker 5: And so we settled ours. I want up. I don't
• 9:19
Speaker 5: have a lawyer. I went up with Dan Hedges the
• 9:23
Speaker 5: Apple read a lawyer and settled it. That cost a
• 9:26
  Speaker 5: quarter May's dollars.
• 9:28
Speaker 4: Were you a proponent of the regional jail system that
• 9:31
Speaker 4: we have now? Because I'm old enough to remember many
• 9:34
Speaker 4: of our listeners are as well. When every every courthouse
• 9:36
Speaker 4: whatever you know, had had a county jail, and then
• 9:39
Speaker 4: that was a novel concept when it first came into being.
• 9:42
Speaker 4: The regional jail system that well that we have now,
• 9:45
Speaker 4: were you a proponent of that?
• 9:47
  Speaker 5: Uh? I didn't quite understand it. I didn't think it
• 9:50
Speaker 5: would ever come to be. But yeah, now because now
• 9:53
Speaker 5: the sheriff. When I got to be sheriff, Kemp Milton says,
• 9:58
Speaker 5: your biggest problem, it's going to be the jail and
• 10:02
Speaker 5: he was right, Well, now the sheriff doesn't have that problem.
• 10:05
Speaker 4: Well, but the counties have the problem now because that's
• 10:08
Speaker 4: one of the things. In some of the poorer counties
• 10:10
Speaker 4: in West Virginia, they're in rears when it comes to
• 10:13
Speaker 4: their jail bill. That's one of the that's one of
• 10:16
Speaker 4: the big expenses. And there are counties, and I don't
• 10:18
Speaker 4: know what the current stats are, but there are counties
• 10:20
Speaker 4: that simply can't pay their jail.
• 10:22
Speaker 2: Because they still have to pay for them. They pay
• 10:24
  Speaker 2: into the system.
• 10:25
Speaker 5: And you know what their answer is, what's that to
• 10:28
Speaker 5: make the cities pay for it? In other words, you
• 10:34
Speaker 5: take a defendant in front of a magicate and they
• 10:43
Speaker 5: on a state charge, and they decide to lock them up.
• 10:49
Speaker 5: They want to they want the cities to pay it,
• 10:53
Speaker 5: at least part of it. But yet it's it's it's
• 10:57
Speaker 5: a county function and it's a state crime. Now, if
• 11:02
Speaker 5: the city in our jail, in the city jail, in
• 11:08
Speaker 5: other words, if we put an inmate like a prostitute
• 11:12
Speaker 5: in jail for a few days, the city has to
• 11:14
Speaker 5: pay the fee. But if you take an inmate front
• 11:18
Speaker 5: of a magistrate, the state, the county should have to pay.
• 11:24
Speaker 5: They're the ones to collect the property taxes.
• 11:28
Speaker 4: You know, I want to switch gears for a moment,
• 11:31
Speaker 4: and when I hold you through the break and again
• 11:32
Speaker 4: we kind of reverse things. The first Monday of the month,
• 11:35
Speaker 4: the mayor comes in. Mayor Goodwin comes in to ask
• 11:38
Speaker 4: her to take questions, comments and so on and so forth.
• 11:40
Speaker 4: So she'll be up a little bit later on. So
• 11:42
Speaker 4: that's why I have Danny come in a little bit earlier.
• 11:45
  Speaker 2: The mayor.
• 11:47
Speaker 4: Does have primary opposition, but nothing in the general as
• 11:52
Speaker 4: far as as I know, unless I looked at it,
• 11:55
  Speaker 4: I don't. I don't think she has. And if I'm
• 11:57
Speaker 4: wrong about that, I meant to check that and I forgot.
• 11:59
Speaker 4: I know she'll tell, but it's going to be her
• 12:01
Speaker 4: last term running she said that your your thoughts on
• 12:08
Speaker 4: the job mayor good. One's done in her first two terms.
• 12:11
Speaker 5: That she's done. Fine. Her we're different. You know, her
• 12:17
Speaker 5: style would be different than my style.
• 12:20
Speaker 2: Nothing wrong with that.
• 12:22
Speaker 5: If if I was, I think that if she could
• 12:27
Speaker 5: somehow pull off getting this mall, she could pull off
• 12:34
  Speaker 5: something really great.
• 12:35
Speaker 4: Well, she's said that even if everything and we'll talk
• 12:38
Speaker 4: to her about it, maybe with an update, but you know,
• 12:41
Speaker 4: she has said that even if somehow the city does
• 12:44
Speaker 4: take ownership of the mall, it's not going to be like, Okay,
• 12:47
Speaker 4: we got it two months from now. I mean, she
• 12:49
Speaker 4: said it'll be it'll this process, if it happens and
• 12:53
Speaker 4: everything falls in the line, is going to be years
• 12:55
  Speaker 4: down the line.
• 12:56
Speaker 2: It's not going to be during her term.
• 12:58
Speaker 4: And she said that it will, I mean, the work
• 13:00
Speaker 4: will begin, but as far as what it would look
• 13:03
Speaker 4: like is not going to be during her term.
• 13:05
Speaker 5: And she said that I have people and she has people.
• 13:11
Speaker 5: They're different people, but I have people I could call
• 13:17
Speaker 5: and tell them I've got them all I need we
• 13:25
Speaker 5: need to develop it, and I've still got They're still
• 13:29
Speaker 5: out there. My people are still out there, and she's
• 13:32
Speaker 5: got people. I'm not going to I mean I name
• 13:36
Speaker 5: one of them. I'm not going to write now, But
• 13:39
Speaker 5: but she can round up some people and have them
• 13:46
Speaker 5: to round up some other people and some investors. And
• 13:54
Speaker 5: one thing you might do is cut that mall right
• 13:56
Speaker 5: down the middle. And there's there's all kinds of stuff
• 14:02
Speaker 5: that could be done there.
• 14:04
Speaker 2: What would you do if you had it?
• 14:06
Speaker 4: Let's say, no questions ask you're the mayor, or you're
• 14:09
Speaker 4: not the mayor, whatever, you have them all, what do
• 14:12
Speaker 4: you do with it?
• 14:12
  Speaker 7: Well?
• 14:13
Speaker 5: I would get the people I think that are in
• 14:16
  Speaker 5: my app.
• 14:17
Speaker 4: Okay, okay, but but what would you do with it
• 14:20
Speaker 4: if you've got the investors?
• 14:21
  Speaker 5: I don't know. I don't know. I would have to
• 14:24
Speaker 5: wait and talk to these these folks that I would
• 14:28
Speaker 5: try to get to come in here, and I know
• 14:32
Speaker 5: it would involve people living there and try to get
• 14:39
Speaker 5: some retail back in there.
• 14:42
  Speaker 4: I mean, that's that's kind of where I have been
• 14:44
Speaker 4: Danny on This is is and the term is mixed use.
• 14:47
Speaker 4: I mean, if you do a variety of things, you
• 14:49
Speaker 4: have some offices, you have some retail, I mean you
• 14:52
Speaker 4: get you know, you can still have a restaurant or
• 14:56
Speaker 4: to bring bring back Tidewater, Uh, you know, something like that,
• 15:01
Speaker 4: but also residential and also you know whatever the sports
• 15:06
Speaker 4: complex is going to look like something like that too.
• 15:09
Speaker 4: But the days of the town Center, when we've said
• 15:12
Speaker 4: it toward blue in the face, man, the days of
• 15:14
Speaker 4: the town Center in nineteen eighty eight are done. They're gone,
• 15:17
Speaker 4: and they're never coming back. And nobody is going to
• 15:20
Speaker 4: tell you any different on that. I mean, they're done.

• 17:58
Speaker 4: I want to ask you about Ice in Minnesota. Still
• 18:04
Speaker 4: there the now they've sent Holman up there, is it
• 18:09
Speaker 4: time for the other like Christy Noman the others to go?
• 18:11
  Speaker 2: In your opinion?
• 18:12
Speaker 5: Oh, I think that. I don't that she should have
• 18:15
  Speaker 5: ever been hired.
• 18:17
Speaker 2: Why do you say that, Oh.
• 18:18
  Speaker 5: I think she's incompetence. I don't. I mean, I think
• 18:22
Speaker 5: there's a whole bunch of them there that shouldn't be there,
• 18:25
Speaker 5: but I mean I think Rubio should be there. He's okay,
• 18:31
Speaker 5: what do you make? And again I like Holman. He's
• 18:34
Speaker 5: he worked for for President. He worked for Jay Johnson
• 18:38
Speaker 5: under Obama, and Jay Johnson said there were four people
• 18:43
Speaker 5: that he went to for advice when he was run
• 18:46
Speaker 5: the show, and one of them was Tom Holman.
• 18:48
Speaker 4: I will say this about Holman, uh and I've seen
• 18:51
Speaker 4: a lot of interviews with him with you know, the
• 18:54
Speaker 4: border situation. Now he's he's in Minnesota. He states his
• 18:59
Speaker 4: case very very well. You don't never have to wonder
• 19:01
Speaker 4: where he stands on anything in that. I will say
• 19:06
Speaker 4: that something I read Danny over the weekend and it
• 19:09
Speaker 4: kind of stuck with me, And I want to get
• 19:11
Speaker 4: your take on this.
• 19:12
  Speaker 5: Now.
• 19:12
Speaker 4: This is according to Pew Research, Texas, the state of
• 19:17
Speaker 4: Texas has an estimated two point one million undocumented immigrants.
• 19:23
Speaker 4: Florida has an estimated one point six million. Minnesota, which
• 19:30
Speaker 4: as you know, especially with last month and so, has
• 19:32
Speaker 4: been ground zero for ice, has an estimated one hundred
• 19:36
Speaker 4: and thirty thousand undocumented immigrants. Now, look at the numbers
• 19:41
Speaker 4: in Texas, the numbers in Florida, and look at the
• 19:44
Speaker 4: numbers in Minnesota, as they say, the math doesn't math here.
• 19:50
Speaker 4: I mean, why are we going after Minnesota when it's
• 19:53
Speaker 4: obvious that Florida and Texas have many more undocumented folks.
• 19:58
Speaker 4: I mean, I think you and I both know the
• 19:59
Speaker 4: answer to that, but I'm interested to get your take.
• 20:02
Speaker 5: Well, what I don't understand it's all political. But what
• 20:05
Speaker 5: I don't understand is is why with that Somali scandal
• 20:12
Speaker 5: going on up there, they didn't focus on that and
• 20:17
Speaker 5: all the money, you know, the eight or nine billion
• 20:23
Speaker 5: that the Treasury got scanned out of on that scandal. Instead,
• 20:32
Speaker 5: they go up there and change the subject and they
• 20:35
  Speaker 5: start shooting people.
• 20:37
Speaker 2: I mean, I just thought it.
• 20:38
Speaker 4: I mean, it seems like to me that a good
• 20:41
Speaker 4: place to start would be where there are more undocumented
• 20:46
Speaker 4: and that would be Florida and Texas. But that doesn't
• 20:50
Speaker 4: that that doesn't sell as well, and Maine was also
• 20:54
Speaker 4: being looked at as well, and we all know why.
• 21:00
Speaker 5: I'm just not excited about any of it. You know,
• 21:03
Speaker 5: I'll be in California on Thursday afternoon. Do you know
• 21:07
Speaker 5: what it's like out there.
• 21:08
Speaker 4: I've never been to California, but you know what I mean.
• 21:11
Speaker 4: I know what I see on TV. The immigrant Yeah, I.
• 21:14
Speaker 5: Mean, you pull those people out of there, the economy
• 21:17
Speaker 5: would collapse. I'm just not excited about it. As most people.
• 21:23
Speaker 5: I realized there's some criminals, and I realized they got
• 21:28
Speaker 5: in during the Biden administration when they just opened the
• 21:31
  Speaker 5: border up right.
• 21:32
  Speaker 2: Well.
• 21:33
Speaker 4: And I think that even some of the more liberal
• 21:38
Speaker 4: folks on some of the talking heads on the on
• 21:40
Speaker 4: television have even said what happened under the Biden administration
• 21:44
Speaker 4: should have never happened with all of these people just
• 21:47
  Speaker 4: pouring in.
• 21:47
Speaker 2: I mean a lot of Democrats have come out and
• 21:49
Speaker 2: said that there's no question and uh.
• 21:53
Speaker 4: And as someone brought up on one of the shows yesterday, Danny,
• 21:57
Speaker 4: you can say, Okay, these people that have come over
• 22:00
Speaker 4: that they're not all criminals, but by definition, if they
• 22:04
Speaker 4: came here illegally, they are a criminal.
• 22:06
Speaker 2: Oh please, I mean, are they not breaking the law?
• 22:10
  Speaker 5: I don't, It doesn't. President Bush had a bill in
• 22:16
Speaker 5: two thousand and six. Now here's what here's what gets
• 22:20
Speaker 5: the Republicans. Every time you freeze everything you give you
• 22:29
Speaker 5: get you give everybody green cards, and that way you
• 22:38
Speaker 5: know who they are. You know who they are and
• 22:41
Speaker 5: where they are and that's the people in this country.
• 22:45
Speaker 5: It's a form of embessy. But they have to get
• 22:48
Speaker 5: in the back of the line for citizenship, but they
• 22:50
Speaker 5: get to stay here and once they apply for their
• 22:54
Speaker 5: green cards, then you can do a background check on
• 22:57
Speaker 5: them and then if they if they have a criminal
• 23:00
Speaker 5: a little record and fill them out of the country.
• 23:03
Speaker 4: All right, we had a phone call, dannyone to take
• 23:04
Speaker 4: a phone call. Sure, Now let's go to Don and Tornado.
• 23:07
Speaker 4: You're on with Danny Jones.
• 23:08
Speaker 2: Go ahead, Hey, I.
• 23:11
Speaker 10: Talked to you last time. You're on day, but the
• 23:13
Speaker 10: show ended while we were talking. Yes, sir, yes, Now,
• 23:18
Speaker 10: last last week you said that, uh, these illegal immigrants
• 23:24
Speaker 10: or through full process of the law. Right, that's not true?
• 23:29
Speaker 2: Okay, correct me? Then I'm I'm the first admit when
• 23:32
Speaker 2: I'm wrong. You correct me.
• 23:34
Speaker 10: That is not true. You can be cooked up and
• 23:37
Speaker 10: deported anytime they find you if you're illegal. That that's
• 23:43
Speaker 10: that's got president of that with the Supreme Court.
• 23:45
Speaker 2: Okay, all right, now answer me this, yes sir.
• 23:50
Speaker 10: Now, you've been Minnesota hal sanctuary cities, right, okay, just
• 23:55
Speaker 10: that not go get federal law.
• 23:58
  Speaker 9: I mean, I.
• 24:01
Speaker 10: Don't I don't know Okay, let me clarify.
• 24:03
Speaker 2: Okay, let's say it.
• 24:04
Speaker 10: Was eighteen sixty one. You say president would have went
• 24:09
Speaker 10: along with sanctuary states that allowed slavery. No, no, did
• 24:13
  Speaker 10: that happen?
• 24:14
Speaker 2: No? No, no, I don't think so. Danny want to
• 24:16
Speaker 2: weigh in on this.
• 24:17
Speaker 5: It's too much logic for me.
• 24:22
Speaker 2: You're using too much logic for Danny.
• 24:24
Speaker 5: Now, I think these people are entitled to hearings, and.
• 24:29
Speaker 10: Are entitled to hearings in immigration courts, which aren't necessarily judges.
• 24:34
Speaker 10: They don't even have to be lawyers, and they are
• 24:37
Speaker 10: appointed by the Attorney General, and the attorney General can
• 24:42
  Speaker 10: override their decisions.
• 24:44
Speaker 5: Well, you said they were entitled hearings. I thought you
• 24:47
Speaker 5: said they weren't immigration courts.
• 24:49
Speaker 10: They are not. They are not entitled to due process
• 24:53
  Speaker 10: on criminal proceedings.
• 24:54
Speaker 5: Well, to me, immigration immigration court is due process.
• 25:01
Speaker 10: Yes it is. And Holman has tried to tell you
• 25:04
Speaker 10: all that they just termed what Lucid had been held
• 25:06
Speaker 10: over two years, and that was because he said he
• 25:10
Speaker 10: would be tortured if he was returned to his home country. Okay,
• 25:13
Speaker 10: read that over the weekend. Okay, Now, for some reason,
• 25:18
Speaker 10: unbeknown to me, two years seems to be the limit
• 25:22
Speaker 10: that you can just deport an illegal immigrant hipprodote sign. Now, Danny,
• 25:28
Speaker 10: you had heartburn last week about them shooting that lady
• 25:33
Speaker 10: in the car? Is that right?
• 25:36
  Speaker 5: Well, I don't know yet. It doesn't look good. I'd
• 25:41
Speaker 5: have to see if I'd have to see if her
• 25:44
Speaker 5: car was pointing at the gentleman, if she if she
• 25:48
Speaker 5: was driving a missile to use against that ice agent.
• 25:53
Speaker 5: But the tape I've seen doesn't make it look like that.
• 25:58
Speaker 5: Now that that now the other guy to.
• 26:02
Speaker 10: Me, you were go ahead, you were sheriff how long ago?
• 26:07
  Speaker 5: Forty years?
• 26:10
Speaker 10: Forty years ago? Okay, I don't know if you were sheriff.
• 26:15
Speaker 10: That it might have been after that. There was a
• 26:18
Speaker 10: South Charostan policeman that killed a young young man at
• 26:22
Speaker 10: South Charleston because he said he tried to hit him
• 26:24
Speaker 10: with his car and there was no evidence anywhere. I
• 26:27
Speaker 10: think his name was Joey Holtis and it happened in
• 26:30
Speaker 10: four circle. How did you come down on that?
• 26:33
Speaker 5: I have no knowledge or recollection of that.
• 26:38
Speaker 10: Well, that was a long time ago, and that was
• 26:41
Speaker 10: kind of unfair, but it is true. It is true.
• 26:44
Speaker 10: It was in the middle of the night. The policeman
• 26:46
Speaker 10: shot him and killed him and said he tried to
• 26:49
Speaker 10: hit him with his car.
• 26:50
Speaker 5: If she was trying to hit an iag when with
• 26:56
Speaker 5: her car, then he has a defense. He has a defense.
• 27:01
Speaker 5: But but that's just not what to me, That's not
• 27:04
Speaker 5: what the tape looks like. Now, this other one, this
• 27:08
Speaker 5: guy with Petty or what's his name, pretty pretty pretty,
• 27:13
  Speaker 5: that was murder.
• 27:16
Speaker 10: Period that you would almost have to say that was
• 27:20
Speaker 10: murder on Ashley Babbitt. She was unarmed.
• 27:25
Speaker 5: Well, boy, there's nothing good. There's nothing you can say
• 27:29
Speaker 5: about that that makes you feel good. I mean, I
• 27:34
Speaker 5: felt so bad for her and her family. But she
• 27:37
Speaker 5: was trying to she was trying to break in the
• 27:39
  Speaker 5: House of Representative.
• 27:44
Speaker 10: Well way, yes, But why he singled her out and
• 27:49
Speaker 10: not the other ones is in my honest opinion, I
• 27:53
Speaker 10: think he pantied or I think he aspired his weapon.
• 27:57
  Speaker 5: Now he didn't. He didn't.
• 28:00
Speaker 10: His finger was on and off the trigger.
• 28:03
Speaker 5: He meant to, He meant to shoot somebody. It just
• 28:06
Speaker 5: happened to be her. Well, you can read Liz Cheney's book.
• 28:12
  Speaker 5: It's it's in there.
• 28:14
Speaker 10: I'm not ready tell you don't have to.
• 28:18
Speaker 5: I mean, I'm just I study as much of this
• 28:21
Speaker 5: stuff as I can. I try to get both sides of.
• 28:24
Speaker 10: It well, and for the most part, I agree with
• 28:29
Speaker 10: you sometimes most of the time. I mean you at
• 28:33
Speaker 10: least you're not as hypocritical as others on the radio.
• 28:36
Speaker 2: Yeah wait a minute, you.
• 28:40
Speaker 10: I mean you have one state legislator on I heard
• 28:43
Speaker 10: him tell the biggest whopping lines You've never challenged.
• 28:46
  Speaker 5: It won't fit.
• 28:47
Speaker 10: He said he watched a policeman beat to death with
• 28:49
Speaker 10: the American flag on January sixth, and that was not
• 28:52
  Speaker 10: absolutely not true.
• 28:54
Speaker 4: Right, all right, Don if I haven't told you, I
• 28:57
  Speaker 4: appreciate you.
• 28:58
  Speaker 2: Listening, my friend.
• 29:01
  Speaker 10: Okay, thank you.
• 29:02
Speaker 2: Yeah, twenty four minutes away from Tampa that.
• 29:06
Speaker 5: A policemen got beat with the American that's.
• 29:10
  Speaker 4: I don't I'm not saying that didn't. I I don't
• 29:12
Speaker 4: recall somebody. I don't recall somebody allegedly saying that. Don
• 29:16
Speaker 4: may very well be right, though, because I don't remember
• 29:18
Speaker 4: a lot. All right, before we let you go any
• 29:23
Speaker 4: any any what needs to happen in Minnesota in your opinion?
• 29:28
Speaker 5: Well, I mean, hadn't had nice done enough? I mean,
• 29:32
Speaker 5: haven't they You said there were pockets of bigger populations
• 29:40
Speaker 5: than other states may be able to go there.
• 29:43
Speaker 2: They're not going to Texas or Florida. I promise you that.
• 29:45
Speaker 2: Why because those are red states.
• 29:49
Speaker 5: Yeah, and you know you go to Florida, those Cubans
• 29:53
Speaker 5: are Republicans. And I'm just not excited about this. About
• 30:01
Speaker 5: all these immigrants, I think there ought to be an
• 30:06
Speaker 5: easier path the citizenship. I think they appreciate their citizenship
• 30:11
Speaker 5: more than the people that were born here. I've talked
• 30:14
  Speaker 5: to them about.
• 30:15
Speaker 2: It, and that's not anything new. I mean, I mean,
• 30:18
Speaker 2: if you go back to our ancestor when they came here,
• 30:21
Speaker 2: there was a there was a deep appreciation.
• 30:23
  Speaker 5: I was I was born, I mean I was. I
• 30:27
Speaker 5: have presided with Judge Goodwin and Judge copenhaveer over two
• 30:33
Speaker 5: swearing in ceremonies over there. And you talk about people
• 30:37
Speaker 5: that are grateful to be American citizens. And I had
• 30:43
Speaker 5: one lady come to my restaurant. She was some Syria.
• 30:46
Speaker 5: He said, she just sold me. Said you people don't
• 30:49
Speaker 5: appreciate what you have.
• 30:50
  Speaker 2: That's true.
• 30:51
Speaker 4: Me read his final text for you and then we'll
• 30:54
Speaker 4: get you out of here. Ask Danny which laws he's
• 30:57
Speaker 4: okay with people breaking? Since he apparently gets to pick.
• 31:00
Speaker 5: I don't get to pick. I get to be excited. Uh,
• 31:05
Speaker 5: I'm I'm just not excited about uh. We I grew
• 31:10
Speaker 5: up with lost people didn't observe hell like in the
• 31:13
Speaker 5: sixties we had we had uh uh it was Charles
• 31:18
Speaker 5: was a bootleg town and I was working in these
• 31:21
Speaker 5: clubs and everything we were doing was illegal. I mean
• 31:26
Speaker 5: you and we had we had prohibition this in this country.
• 31:33
  Speaker 5: I I I just I'm just not excited about it.
• 31:37
Speaker 4: All Right, we gotta leave it there, go to California,
• 31:40
  Speaker 4: enjoy yourself.
• 31:41

Speaker 4: Difference between Texas and Minnesota is that Texas has been
• 37:02
Speaker 4: dealing with illegal immigration for decades, and they've actually been
• 37:05
Speaker 4: working with law enforcements. Sanctuary cities like Minneapolis, New York,
• 37:09
Speaker 4: and Philadelphia have never had to deal with this until
• 37:11
Speaker 4: the brilliant move by Greg Abbott to send those people
• 37:13
Speaker 4: to those cities. Minnesota is using this as propaganda and
• 37:17
Speaker 4: it's despicable. What's so hard to understand about this? All right,
• 37:20
Speaker 4: the mayor is here, how you doing your name?
• 37:22
  Speaker 5: All right?
• 37:22
Speaker 2: It's great, all right?
• 37:24
Speaker 4: Sorry, Chili is still but little Chile, and we've had
• 37:27
Speaker 4: some water main breaks to talk about.
• 37:29
Speaker 14: We really have, and you know that's been ongoing. Let
• 37:33
Speaker 14: me be clear, I mean water breaks have have happened
• 37:37
Speaker 14: last week and continuing into a water main break on
• 37:42
Speaker 14: Courier Street, which I believe West Virginia American Water tried
• 37:46
Speaker 14: to fix or was remedying last week. Towards the latter
• 37:50
Speaker 14: part of last week, has happened again due to that
• 37:54
Speaker 14: City Service the City Service Center where we do a
• 37:58
Speaker 14: lot of our collections and development offices, building permits. It's
• 38:03
Speaker 14: shut down this morning because we don't have any water
• 38:05
Speaker 14: to that building and a lot of the buildings in
• 38:07
Speaker 14: and around that area. Of course, these are also homes
• 38:11
Speaker 14: that we're saying. It's not just a main break. Of course,
• 38:14
Speaker 14: that's impacts so many, so many folks, including our city employees.
• 38:20
Speaker 14: But again, you know, I sound like a broken record.
• 38:23
Speaker 14: Mother nature has not been kind. You know, the temperatures
• 38:29
Speaker 14: will creep up a little bit as we go. The
• 38:31
Speaker 14: sun makes a big difference. The sun is out this morning,
• 38:35
Speaker 14: and even though the temperatures are extremely cold, it is
• 38:39
Speaker 14: so it is it is awesome to see, uh, the
• 38:43
Speaker 14: sun pop out. But you know, the water main breaks
• 38:46
Speaker 14: are are certainly a huge issue for us with these
• 38:50
Speaker 14: freezing temperatures, and with these freezing temperatures and with the
• 38:54
Speaker 14: dusting I shouldn't even say a dusting inches of snow
• 38:57
Speaker 14: we had. You know, you're looking, you know, we're looking
• 39:01
Speaker 14: here at the news, you know, on the national news
• 39:03
Speaker 14: and the television above your head, Dave. I mean, tens
• 39:06
Speaker 14: of thousands are still across you know, the South without
• 39:10
Speaker 14: power this morning. And so the other challenge that we
• 39:14
Speaker 14: are having because in municipal government, by the way, we're
• 39:18
Speaker 14: the workers. We're the folks who are out salting and
• 39:21
Speaker 14: scraping and working on those challenging issues. Other states are
• 39:25
Speaker 14: facing that. And what happens is when you had this
• 39:28
Speaker 14: wide swath of inclement weather happen. We're all fighting for salt.
• 39:34
Speaker 14: We're all fighting for salt.
• 39:35
Speaker 4: It's February second, and the groundhog says six more weeks
• 39:41
  Speaker 4: of winter.
• 39:41
  Speaker 6: I know.
• 39:42
Speaker 4: That's what punk Satani Phil said. And his record is
• 39:45
  Speaker 4: not very good.
• 39:45
Speaker 14: It's not very good. Although I put something, you know,
• 39:48
Speaker 14: just kind of a flip comment, like, you know, mister groundhog,
• 39:51
Speaker 14: are you serious? You know, back up, and somebody sent
• 39:54
Speaker 14: of course, because AI everybody makes up these terribly hysterical
• 39:59
Speaker 14: image is and someone had an image of me in
• 40:02
Speaker 14: a boxing ring with punk Satani and I'm giving them
• 40:05
Speaker 14: a right hook and involved that does not reflect the
• 40:11
Speaker 14: views or opinions of this mayor would not hit an animal.
• 40:14
Speaker 14: I love animals. But back to the to the salt issue.
• 40:18
Speaker 14: It's an issue. I mean it's an issue all across
• 40:20
Speaker 14: the state, and especially not just securing I know we
• 40:24
Speaker 14: have salt, we've been using salt. But let me say
• 40:27
Speaker 14: two things. So's everybody else, and so it is a
• 40:30
Speaker 14: battle always to make sure we have and not just
• 40:33
Speaker 14: we the state of West Virginia. All of the municipalities
• 40:37
Speaker 14: that surround the city of Charleston are fighting for salt,
• 40:41
Speaker 14: making sure the reserves are up ours are we have
• 40:44
Speaker 14: enough to do the work we need to do. But again,
• 40:46
Speaker 14: it's February second, and also as we mentioned last week,
• 40:50
Speaker 14: but it's worth repeating because we get calls in the
• 40:52
Speaker 14: office right all the time when people say, what are
• 40:55
Speaker 14: the people? You know, I'll tell you what everybody's talking about. Well,
• 40:57
Speaker 14: I'll tell you what everybody's talking about, because they're calling
• 40:59
Speaker 14: my office every week, get you know, weekly reports. Who's
• 41:02
Speaker 14: calling and why? Of course, it's salt. Hey can you
• 41:04
Speaker 14: throw some salt down?
• 41:05
  Speaker 4: Hey?
• 41:05
Speaker 14: Can you come up here? After a certain temperature, salt
• 41:09
Speaker 14: is really ineffective. We try, we try to break up
• 41:12
Speaker 14: the ice, you know, with the sun, throw some salt down.
• 41:15
Speaker 14: Sometimes we can make that happen, but other times it
• 41:19
Speaker 14: is just simply impossible without chiseling it off of the roadways.
• 41:25
Speaker 14: And our guys are doing a great job. But you know,
• 41:27
Speaker 14: keep in mind when we're telling you to stay off
• 41:29
Speaker 14: the roads, and we have our trucks out on the roads,
• 41:32
Speaker 14: you know, plus seventeen trucks. We had vehicles slut, huge
• 41:38
Speaker 14: salt trucks sliding off into ditches. So it was not
• 41:44
Speaker 14: it was not an easy task this past storm. It
• 41:47
Speaker 14: was extremely difficult. Some of those slippy conditions still continue.
• 41:51
Speaker 14: You know, the buses, you know, I could, I could
• 41:53
Speaker 14: hear them all the way back from working out this morning,
• 41:56
Speaker 14: you know, slow going through our roads to get our kiddos.
• 42:00
Speaker 14: And so what we hope is even though I see,
• 42:03
Speaker 14: you know, we're gonna get maybe a dusting later this
• 42:06
Speaker 14: week or an inch or two, I can tell you
• 42:09
Speaker 14: that we have morning and afternoon calls. We have an
• 42:14
Speaker 14: emergency text string that We are always updating one another.
• 42:18
Speaker 14: What's happening, what do we need to do, what areas
• 42:21
Speaker 14: of the city. You know, their accidents is duly noted
• 42:23
Speaker 14: by your text this morning to.
• 42:25
  Speaker 4: You, Dave.
• 42:26
Speaker 14: There are accidents that are happening still everywhere, and so
• 42:30
Speaker 14: great measure in still slowing down, taking your time the
• 42:34
Speaker 14: roads passable driver, But of course they are. They all are.
• 42:37
Speaker 14: If you're going at a slow pace, going the speed
• 42:41
Speaker 14: limit still on the highways, I would not. I would not,
• 42:45
Speaker 14: even though I think the state of West Virginia did
• 42:47
Speaker 14: a really good job. I mean they they preset the
• 42:51
Speaker 14: beat brine is what I'm calling it.
• 42:53
Speaker 2: Juice. It's the new avocado. Everybody's got to have it.
• 42:58
Speaker 14: But they're doing you know, they're communicating with us. We're
• 43:02
Speaker 14: communicating with them, and I just say us. I mean,
• 43:04
Speaker 14: you know, my vested interest is to make sure that
• 43:06
Speaker 14: the entire not just the city of Charleston, but the
• 43:09
Speaker 14: entire region is clear because there's so many folks who
• 43:12
Speaker 14: don't live in the city of Charleston. They run businesses,
• 43:15
Speaker 14: they work in the city of Charleston, and so it
• 43:18
Speaker 14: is always my concern for the entire region to make
• 43:21
Speaker 14: sure that these roads are passable. We get lots of
• 43:24
Speaker 14: calls on sidewalks and you know, you know, for the
• 43:28
Speaker 14: most part, it's it is a you know, there's public
• 43:31
Speaker 14: access points and you know, our emergen are handicap accessible,
• 43:39
Speaker 14: you know, entrance and exit ways. We have tried to
• 43:41
Speaker 14: keep up and doing our best certainly through these, but
• 43:45
Speaker 14: it's the residents and the businesses who have that property
• 43:48
Speaker 14: in front of their sidewalk to do that work. I
• 43:50
Speaker 14: saw a couple of emails that came in the Mayor's
• 43:53
Speaker 14: office like, hey, you need you need to tell my
• 43:56
Speaker 14: neighbor that they need to clear their sidewalk. Well, we'll
• 43:58
Speaker 14: do our very best in helping folks.
• 44:01
  Speaker 5: All right.
• 44:01
Speaker 4: We did have a text about a specific area. Here
• 44:04
Speaker 4: been nine days is the textas since the ice storm
• 44:07
Speaker 4: hit will when will the city address the ice covered
• 44:09
Speaker 4: streets in East End, West Side, North Charleston and Kanas City.
• 44:12
Speaker 14: Did they say sidewalks or resum Sorry I didn't.
• 44:14
Speaker 2: It says it didn't the ice covered streets?
• 44:18
Speaker 14: Ice covered streets. Well, I'll say I'll say this to
• 44:20
Speaker 14: you as as we have noted many many times, we
• 44:24
Speaker 14: try to hit the flats because that's I think that's
• 44:26
Speaker 14: what the texture is calling about as best as we
• 44:29
Speaker 14: possibly can. But we have to make sure that also
• 44:32
Speaker 14: are hills because we live in the Mountain state, to
• 44:37
Speaker 14: make sure that those are cleared and shoveled and scraped
• 44:40
Speaker 14: and salted. But we're doing our very We're doing our
• 44:44
Speaker 14: very best. Our guys have done an incredible job, you know,
• 44:48
Speaker 14: and you know, for safety reasons too, we make sure
• 44:50
Speaker 14: that folks have time to you know, rest as well.

Speaker 14: many challenges facing us, and I'm ready to continue to
• 48:54
  Speaker 14: move forward.
• 48:55
  Speaker 2: Tex says Dave.
• 48:58
Speaker 4: There is a beautiful pup at the shelter. He was
• 49:00
Speaker 4: shot in the back of the head. No, I saw
• 49:02
Speaker 4: we posted that and toss out of a card. Does
• 49:04
Speaker 4: the mayor hap to know if there was investigation to
• 49:06
Speaker 4: find out who did this?
• 49:08
  Speaker 14: That's a great question. Or video footage, that's a that's
• 49:11
Speaker 14: an awesome question. Actually, my Knie sent it to me
• 49:13
Speaker 14: last night. He said, and Ammy, you and Uncle Booth
• 49:16
Speaker 14: need to go get this little guy. I think his
• 49:18
Speaker 14: names was Stubbed. My goodness, he was so cute.

• 49:24
Speaker 14: I don't know, but to the texture. I'm delighted to
• 49:28
Speaker 14: look into it this morning, because I just think that's unfathomable.
• 49:30
Speaker 14: I just can't understand why anyone would do But I
• 49:33
Speaker 14: can't understand why anyone would do this. But not that
• 49:36
Speaker 14: we have time to talk about Gus the bus Goodwin,
• 49:39
Speaker 14: but Booth and I and our boys had for six
• 49:41
Speaker 14: almost sixteen years a lab Saint Bernard, who was put
• 49:46
Speaker 14: in a garbage bag with four of his sisters and
• 49:49
Speaker 14: left on It looked like they were trying to throw
• 49:51
Speaker 14: in the river, but they never made it down there.
• 49:54
Speaker 14: And we lost Gus just you know, two years ago,
• 49:58
Speaker 14: and we still just can't. We still are just you know,
• 50:04
Speaker 14: grieving this wonderful, wonderful boy that we had in our
• 50:08
Speaker 14: home and shared our lives with for sixteen years. So
• 50:11
  Speaker 14: I can't I don't get it. I don't get it,
• 50:12
Speaker 14: but I'll look into it. Thank you.
• 50:13
Speaker 4: But Dave Alan showing five any line brought to you,
• 50:15
Speaker 4: in part by your hometown baseball team, the Charleston Dirty Birds.
• 50:18
Speaker 4: Winter time now, but we're thinking baseball at Golmar Ballpark now.
• 50:21
  Speaker 10: We are it.
• 50:22
Speaker 4: What's funny is, Mayors, every time I read this, no
• 50:24
Speaker 4: matter who the guest is, they always go yes. Now
• 50:27
Speaker 4: would be a great time to secure your season tickets,
• 50:29
Speaker 4: merchandise more Dirty Birds Baseball dot.
• 50:31
Speaker 14: My oldest son, Joseph, was born on the first day
• 50:34
Speaker 14: of spring, and so we look forward to not only
• 50:37
Speaker 14: Joseph's birthday, but we look forward to the first day
• 50:40
Speaker 14: of spring. When you start to see the daffodils start
• 50:44
Speaker 14: to pop up. It certainly gives me hope. And that
• 50:47
Speaker 14: is where I know many of us are right now.
• 50:51
Speaker 14: Because it is difficult. Let me also say this, it
• 50:55
Speaker 14: is difficult. But what I also see and the calls
• 50:57
Speaker 14: that we also get and the outreach that we are
• 50:59
Speaker 14: also doing, is we're going into wellness checks stave. We've
• 51:02
Speaker 14: been doing them, We're going to continue to do them.
• 51:05
Speaker 14: And we have some of the most incredible people living
• 51:07
Speaker 14: in and around the city of Charleston, who, by the way,
• 51:11
Speaker 14: are calling not just to get resources for their family
• 51:14
Speaker 14: or friends. People they do not know. Hey, there's a
• 51:18
Speaker 14: neighbor of mine, I haven't seen him or her, and
• 51:21
Speaker 14: do you mind to check on them. We are such
• 51:24
Speaker 14: a compassionate people. It makes me so proud. I mean,
• 51:29
Speaker 14: you know, we always are ready to go. I mean,
• 51:32
Speaker 14: you know, I e the little fistfight of me with
• 51:34
Speaker 14: Pansadani Phil this morning. Listen. We're strong people, We're resilient.
• 51:39
Speaker 14: We we work with Gusto. But the thing that I
• 51:43
Speaker 14: love about us, you can do both. By the way,
• 51:45
Speaker 14: you can be a strong people, you can be solid
• 51:50
Speaker 14: in your stance, but you also can have empathy and
• 51:53
Speaker 14: sympathy and compassion for others. And I also saw that
• 51:56
Speaker 14: during these tough times because we have a very large
• 51:59
Speaker 14: senior population and we have folks who may not have
• 52:02
Speaker 14: been able to get in or out. And it is
• 52:05
Speaker 14: also part of our responsibility, I believe as a people
• 52:07
Speaker 14: to make sure that we are taking care of one another.
• 52:10
Speaker 14: That's what we do best.
• 52:11
Speaker 4: Let me get this final text and ask the Mary
• 52:12
Speaker 4: if she has any information on the possible new landfill
• 52:15
Speaker 4: for Charleston Knawa Valley.
• 52:16
  Speaker 2: Thirty seconds.
• 52:17
Speaker 14: Yeah, we have made those arrangements. As folks probably know
• 52:21
Speaker 14: from our conversation in the past. Our landfill is moving,
• 52:27
Speaker 14: and so it's you know, there's some ebbs and flows,
• 52:30
Speaker 14: and we're doing the best that we can to make
• 52:32
Speaker 14: this very difficult transition easier for mostly our co workers too,
• 52:36
  Speaker 14: all right,
