- 0:26Hello and welcome back to the Easy Double Podcast episode 28.
- 0:30I'm joined as usual by my 2 Co hosts.
- 0:33Firstly, I shall bring in the Irishman, Owen Smith.
- 0:37How are you? I'm great, had a relatively easy
- 0:40week in terms of running but yeah, feeling good.
- 0:43How are you? Yeah, good.
- 0:44Thank you. Well, apart from the Nosebleed
- 0:47that's just come on in the past few minutes.
- 0:50The Pressure being the host of one of the biggest running
- 0:53podcasts in the world. Something like that.
- 0:58Umm, Sunday long run already done Or, uh.
- 1:02I wouldn't call it a long run. It was just I'm sort of winding
- 1:05down now I can just I'm due a break like I'm just tired.
- 1:08Even Saturday session, I'll go into it now in the training
- 1:11week, but just felt tired and so I only had 60 minutes with like
- 1:15a 15 minute pickup at the end. Umm So like, I'm racing this
- 1:18coming Friday and then I'm having a break.
- 1:21So yeah, just get me to Friday, really.
- 1:24A nice day's done then for you. Sit back.
- 1:27Premier League on the TV now you're saying?
- 1:29Yeah, but I'm that garage renovation is happening, so I'm
- 1:33sort of have to prep for winter here because I know you got to
- 1:35treadmill in that as soon as possible.
- 1:37And so between how to order another skip because there's not
- 1:40much shit like when your father's a farmer and you've got
- 1:43like so many siblings just you made a shit that builds up in
- 1:47like spaces. So this is our second skip and
- 1:51so, yeah, hopefully we have to paint the floors and all that
- 1:54sort of stuff. So, and I'm the driving force
- 1:56behind that. My other brother who's 23, my
- 2:00younger sister who's 21 are totally useless.
- 2:04They if work was in the bed, they'd sleep on the floor like.
- 2:07And then my other younger brother who's 16, he's actually
- 2:11a good worker. So it's literally me and him,
- 2:13but he's full time fireman as well.
- 2:15So it's basically just me. I've three jobs.
- 2:17I've amateur runner freaking IT in a software company in the
- 2:22league and then freaking garage renovator.
- 2:26And the podcast Co host. Oh, podcast.
- 2:28Yeah, OK, I forgot. I'm sure Dean's been itching to
- 2:32comment there in the background, but I haven't actually
- 2:34introduced him. So welcome, Dean, how are you?
- 2:36Good. Thanks mate.
- 2:37No, yeah, biting my tongue over here, but no.
- 2:40Yeah, enjoyed all that. How are you both?
- 2:42Very well just been hanging on for your day of activities to
- 2:46playoffs. Surprise, you're not half tipsy
- 2:49joining the episode I've. Had a, I've had a couple.
- 2:52So yeah, that's right, double struggle, if I get something
- 3:01half decent from me as far as double trouble goes, but we'll
- 3:04see. I doubt it.
- 3:05But no, I had a good afternoon. So I appreciate you guys holding
- 3:09holding out for me. Now good to have, so just to lay
- 3:13out a bit of the structure. Then tonight we've got 2 lots of
- 3:16Diamond League results to go through in Lausanne and
- 3:19Brussels, Australian National Cross Country Championships, the
- 3:23Tooting meet in the UK, the last call for Tokyo.
- 3:26They titled that one and a half marathon in Northern Ireland,
- 3:30the Antrim Half Coast half marathon.
- 3:32We'll go to training weeks with Dean and Owen.
- 3:34We've got some more news. We're going to preview Sydney,
- 3:37which is coming up next weekend. Connor Mantz has been talking
- 3:40about his favorite race day shoe, which is interesting.
- 3:43New York have released their elite fields and we'll see how
- 3:47far down the line we get for YouTube Diaries and Double
- 3:50Trouble. But before we start the podcast
- 3:54properly, we have a major exciting announcement, boys.
- 3:58I'm sure you will have just seen on Instagram just prior to us
- 4:02commencing the recording. We've gone live with the Easy
- 4:04Double Clubhouse. Now, this is something that I've
- 4:07kind of teased a while and we've mentioned that a few times here
- 4:10and there on the recordings, but perhaps I haven't gone into it
- 4:13too much in terms of what it is, why I think it's a good idea,
- 4:17and what it means for you guys. So let me just try and explain
- 4:20some of that for you. So think of it as a bit of a
- 4:23private community space and a backstage pass to the Easy
- 4:26Double Podcast. It's going to work like a big
- 4:28group chat for the Easy Double listeners, but way more
- 4:31organized. And inside, you can chat about
- 4:33the latest Diamond League results, compare shoe rotations
- 4:37and see who else might be lining up at your next race, or just
- 4:40laugh about how badly your last double threshold went.
- 4:43We'll use the Clubhouse to communicate announcements about
- 4:45the pod, like the next big guest interview, so you'll hear about
- 4:48things before anyone else and listen to questions, hopefully
- 4:52including for guests will come solely from within the
- 4:55Clubhouse. And why are we doing this?
- 4:57Well, the podcast has been building nicely and we're
- 4:59definitely heading in the right direction, but we still feel
- 5:02like there's something missing. A weekly episode is great, but
- 5:05it's one way the Clubhouse is where we can all connect.
- 5:08Hear your thoughts on the latest YouTube Diaries or Double
- 5:11Trouble and we'll bring it all back to the pod.
- 5:13For us, it's like going through all the results whilst recording
- 5:16on a Sunday, and for you just listening to a speak about them
- 5:19on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, whenever you might listen.
- 5:21Now that's great, but this is somewhere where we can all speak
- 5:24about the results as it happens and that's even better.
- 5:27So hopefully by now you might be thinking, yeah, this sounds
- 5:30good, but go on then. How much is it going to cost me?
- 5:33I'm already paying for three patrons and four streaming
- 5:36services. Well, this is the best part for
- 5:39now, it's completely free to join.
- 5:41So initially we're going to cover the cost because we don't
- 5:44want to force it upon anyone until we know that it genuinely
- 5:46adds value and serves a purpose. Consider it like a soft launch,
- 5:51if it takes off, we'll keep building on it and layer in more
- 5:54packs so that if we have a transition to a paid model, it's
- 5:57already tried and tested and the whole package is genuinely
- 6:00valuable. If it doesn't work, then we gave
- 6:02it a good go and we'll just stick to podcast and instead
- 6:05assure that whilst it is completely free, if you've
- 6:08enjoyed all the content that we've put out so far for free
- 6:11and like the idea of the Clubhouse, some would like to
- 6:13help us out. Then we've also set up an option
- 6:16to join as a Clubhouse supporter which comes with all the same
- 6:19benefits and inclusions. But that's just your way of
- 6:21helping us out and saying thanks.
- 6:23So what are you waiting for? The links in the bio on
- 6:25Instagram, There's a bit of a post up there to explain how it
- 6:28works and kind of just repeat some of the stuff I've said.
- 6:31And congratulations if you're an early listener because you'll be
- 6:35one of the first to get in there.
- 6:36And also conscious guys, that this is only going to work if
- 6:40you're involved too. And that's not to say that
- 6:42there's any pressure to be contributing and sending
- 6:44messages all day and night. You can feel free to just sit
- 6:48back and take it all in. But yeah, I think you can get
- 6:50the sense that how this can be like a good community for us
- 6:53all. So fellas, what do you think
- 6:55about that? Are we excited?
- 6:56I'm absolutely buzzing. I've sort of no, like it is a
- 7:00great idea because I feel like I'm always interested in what
- 7:03other people are doing. So I've got my own little thing.
- 7:06So like even if I try in like, like what supplements, for
- 7:09example, are people taking? Like I must just take a little
- 7:11thing from someone else, add it to my routine and it could
- 7:15benefit me greatly. So yeah, you learn off other
- 7:18people. So I think it's great.
- 7:19Just safe space to to have ping off each other.
- 7:22And yeah, it's a great community.
- 7:24Yeah. I think I'm sort of, I feel like
- 7:26we're sort of making this up as we go in terms of what we, we
- 7:29talk about and what we enjoy talking about.
- 7:31And the whole idea was of setting this up was that we
- 7:35enjoyed sort of talking about this stuff with each other.
- 7:38And we sort of had that like a WhatsApp chat, which we talk
- 7:41about some of the ideas we might like to talk about.
- 7:43But as an extension of that, like, you know, given that
- 7:47there's a few people that enjoy listening to what we talk about,
- 7:49it'd be nice to know what they would like to hear from us.
- 7:53And like you say, what we can learn from other people.
- 7:55Like I've had a few people message me directly just sort of
- 7:58giving me feedback on some of the things that I've said in
- 8:03terms of maybe to further my understanding of things.
- 8:06And so like you say, to the extent we've got all these
- 8:08threads and people are sharing ideas, it's only going to help
- 8:11us and therefore help everyone talk about some of this stuff.
- 8:14Like, yeah, I'm looking forward to it.
- 8:17I sort of feel like people are already engaging so it should be
- 8:19a bit of fun. Yeah, I think I wouldn't.
- 8:21Might have kindly put a photo of my nose bleed in there whilst
- 8:24we're recording. So it's off to a flyer.
- 8:28Well, yeah, I think where where the idea came from for me was
- 8:30like in the past, like thankfully now we've got this
- 8:35good relationship going and we we always catch up and talk
- 8:38about running this way. But in the past, maybe if you
- 8:40don't have that and you're like you kind of following what's
- 8:43going on in the athletic world and you see in these news
- 8:45stories, but you don't really have anyone to go to to speak
- 8:48about it. It's just a nice way to kind of
- 8:50bring everyone together and everyone's got that shared
- 8:53interest. It's not like you're you're
- 8:55posting something on your Instagram and you know that like
- 8:5790 that people couldn't care less about it.
- 9:00Like everyone's invested in the same thing here.
- 9:02Yeah. No, thanks.
- 9:03And thanks very much to you, Ryan, for sort of getting this
- 9:07off the ground. And yeah, thanks for all your
- 9:09effort. Oh yeah, well, I'm not.
- 9:10If you do have any technical difficulties, we haven't been
- 9:13using any any qualified app or website builders.
- 9:18It's all been done in house. So yeah, please messages if you
- 9:21come across any sticking points. Right, then let's kick it off.
- 9:25We've got some results to go through, starting with the
- 9:27Lausanne Diamond League, which was the first of two Diamond
- 9:30League rounds this week, held on Wednesday night, I think it was
- 9:35in Switzerland. So the 800 meters for the women.
- 9:39Keely Hodgkinson backed up and ran a 155.69 to win and the
- 9:45Swiss athlete, the home athlete Audrey Ware out was second in
- 9:49one 5734 and Georgia Hunter Bell, Keely's teammates who
- 9:53we've kind of built a bit of a story around this year, was
- 9:56third in a 15755. Notable others in the results
- 10:01was Claudia Hollingsworth, the recent new record holder of
- 10:05Australia, was 7th in 15881. So comments here guys, Keely
- 10:11just confirming that she's definitely back running 155
- 10:15again. Oh no, she was 154 prior, wasn't
- 10:18she? But like, the conditions here
- 10:20were horrendous. And yeah, interesting from
- 10:22Georgia. Hunter Bella.
- 10:24Like she is by far the best 100m runner, ladies runner, so if she
- 10:27doesn't win she'll have to show on it.
- 10:29It's like her own fault. It's pretty pretty bizarre.
- 10:32Like I feel like what 3 weeks ago it felt like the 800 meters
- 10:36was women's 800 was pretty open. Like it was there was a, well,
- 10:39there's a cut. Like there's a couple of strong
- 10:41women, let's say a few years ago that is, I think Moe and then
- 10:45Kelly Hodgkinson and then who else was there was a few sort of
- 10:49like it was like really strong at the pointy and running that
- 10:52sort of like 155. But and then it felt like it was
- 10:56maybe opening it up, maybe a bit more open perhaps.
- 11:00And now it feels like it's like that.
- 11:02Gold medals maybe. Like you wouldn't bet against
- 11:05her at the minute, would you? There wouldn't be, no one would
- 11:06be lying. Any odds?
- 11:07Actually, YouTube Diaries early. She's set up a YouTube channel
- 11:11and she's posted her first video.
- 11:13Was there something about some shoes?
- 11:15Was that? Was that the teaser?
- 11:16Like a shoe box hit her in the head or something?
- 11:18Was that? I'm not too sure, I just I
- 11:21watched. It on Instagram, maybe it's.
- 11:22It's sort of like different to all the other running YouTube
- 11:25channels. I don't know how it's just, it's
- 11:27like a real vlog sort of one. But um, no, it's cool.
- 11:31Like she has got like I think it was before one of our track
- 11:34sessions, her coach like it was our first speed session after
- 11:38her injury and then shafted in the warm up and she was like
- 11:42really afraid of like doing her hamstring again or whatever
- 11:45injury. And he was like, look, if you're
- 11:47not sure, just go in and see the physio.
- 11:49So before all our big sessions sessions, she goes in to get the
- 11:53run over from the physio to make sure like, yeah, she can do
- 11:56this. Her legs are in good neck.
- 11:59So yeah, she's like a physio on spot to check her before the
- 12:01session and after the session, which is, which is just like
- 12:04another level altogether really. That is mental, isn't it?
- 12:07I I added this into news further down, but it fits very well
- 12:10here. So like, thanks for bringing it
- 12:11in. But I mean, I guess not every
- 12:15athlete can have that kind of setup, can they?
- 12:17Because it's they're probably paying her, the physio a full
- 12:20time salary over the year. But like Keely's like a global
- 12:24star now. So she's probably not sure of a
- 12:26few quid to pay for that sort of resource.
- 12:28And I know like kind of Josh Kerr has done similar things and
- 12:31like investing in a chef and all that.
- 12:34And it definitely makes a big difference because you're
- 12:36thinking about that. She literally gets a full MOT
- 12:39before and after every sessions. She.
- 12:41Yeah, it's crazy. And like there's actually
- 12:43another bit in the YouTube where she's like she's in like a real
- 12:46like a Porsche or something. And like it's in like at night
- 12:50time and they're just driving like really, really fast down
- 12:52the road. And your man's like showing her
- 12:54like how fast it will go. It's like it's just a different
- 12:58YouTube running YouTube where like it's just totally different
- 13:01to any other YouTube diary YouTube that I watch and all
- 13:03that sort of stuff. So it's definitely, definitely
- 13:06worth worth a look. Then if you've had this one,
- 13:09Owen. But did you know I've seen her
- 13:11in the airport once? No.
- 13:13Well, to be fair, there's not much more to it than that.
- 13:16This was must have been the summer when she won silver in
- 13:2121. And I've just been to Crete with
- 13:25Becky and a couple of other couples and we're in the airport
- 13:29on the way home. And I'd seen on Instagram that
- 13:33she was holiday and increase as well.
- 13:35And obviously wondered about, oh, like, you know, you just
- 13:38keep your eyes open like when you're in a restaurant and
- 13:40stuff, as if like creates a tiny place and then lo and behold,
- 13:44there she is checking in in the airport as well.
- 13:46But didn't quite have the confidence or anything.
- 13:49I was a little bit starstruck, I think.
- 13:52If it was today's Ryan, she'd be on the podcast right now.
- 13:59Yeah, I missed that boat, didn't I?
- 14:02Was she flying business? No, I think she was.
- 14:04She was on like a girl's holiday type thing.
- 14:07OK. Right.
- 14:08Then next results from Lausanne was the men's 800 meters.
- 14:12So this was one by Josh Howey, who if we think back to previous
- 14:15weeks, missed out on the US team at the US trials.
- 14:19I think he finished fourth or fifth, but yeah, he's won this
- 14:23one in 142.82 from like a very deep field as well.
- 14:27Emmanuel Wanyangi, who's been kind of like the star of the
- 14:30show this year up until now, the Kenyan athletes, second in
- 14:3414329. Third with this was a Spanish
- 14:37guy, Muhammad Atui, 14338. And then for the rest of the
- 14:42field, yeah, you've got Max Bergen, Marco ROP, Massalela,
- 14:47who I think won a Diamond League early on, and Bryce Hoppel as
- 14:50well. So big win for Harry.
- 14:52Did you watch that race? It was like bucketing down and
- 14:55they were doing that. It was pretty cool like so
- 14:59Harley and the Goose are two of the athletes who haven't
- 15:04qualified trying to get it like a wild card win of the Diamond
- 15:08League final and therefore trying to get points and what
- 15:12they both finished just outside of the auto qualifiers in the
- 15:15trials and they've both gone in like 2 weeks.
- 15:18Within two weeks, both gone and won the like these Diamond
- 15:21League fields are ridiculous like that.
- 15:23That 800 meters could be the like a World Championships
- 15:27final, right? And I don't know.
- 15:29He just judged that ridiculously well, like sat in around 3rd or
- 15:33so and just threw everything at it in the last like 100 metres
- 15:37in the straight. And I think a lot of the
- 15:39comments after the race was it was a bit more like school, like
- 15:43reminds you of like school cross country rather than track race.
- 15:46Like it's not like perfectly manicured surface, really clean
- 15:49fighting. Like I think it was a bit more
- 15:51like physical and hard harsh conditions.
- 15:54And yeah, I don't know, he looked very good.
- 15:56So it's going to make the race. Is it next weekend?
- 15:59I think in Switzerland the the final race is Zurich Diamond
- 16:04League. So yeah.
- 16:05So I think that they're going to be exciting to watch because
- 16:09yeah, sort of chatting a bit, might have been chatting with
- 16:12you offline, Ryan, just about how like normally the Diamond
- 16:15League final comes along and you don't really get that excited
- 16:18for. Whereas this is like I used to,
- 16:20I think they used to put like all of these like gold bullions
- 16:23when it used to be the Golden League and you used to like
- 16:26people were racing for a share of it.
- 16:27And the commentators were giving insiders to like who needed to
- 16:30win or who, who was up for grabs if they won this race.
- 16:33And it meant like a really material amount of money was
- 16:36going their way if they won. So it was very exciting to
- 16:38watch. Whereas in more recent times, it
- 16:40just feels like another Diamond League.
- 16:41It just feels like another competition.
- 16:43And the real crescendo is the world champs.
- 16:45Whereas this like having this before the world champs.
- 16:48And I suspect there will be like we know of two sort of high
- 16:52profile US men's middle distance athletes, but there might be
- 16:56similar like like with East Africans and the middle
- 16:59distances being so deep. But there's the potential that
- 17:01there'll be some really good athletes trying to run their way
- 17:06onto the world champs team. And you're, you're winning a
- 17:08race like that three or four weeks out of the world champs,
- 17:13you're probably a real medal chance, aren't you?
- 17:15Yeah, I think it really helps in terms of like building the drama
- 17:19and the excitement that world champs are literally two or
- 17:22three weeks after this Diamond League final as well.
- 17:24It's not like, Oh well, it's well doing.
- 17:26You've qualified for something that's next year, like go and
- 17:29reset and do your full training block.
- 17:31It's actually like Bang Bang and you can follow it straight
- 17:34through. So it's very exciting.
- 17:36And yet, like you say, he ran this race differently to how he
- 17:39like all year. He's kind of just hit the front,
- 17:41hasn't he? And no one's been able to go
- 17:43with him when he has been winning.
- 17:45And it's almost like when a draw comparison to football, like if
- 17:49you play rarely attacking football and you get found out
- 17:51and you you lose, then the next week you go a bit more
- 17:54conservatively and play an extra midfielder or an extra defender.
- 17:59That's what how he's done here and sitting in the pack running
- 18:01third all the way and then picking them off.
- 18:04So fair play for changes tactics.
- 18:07Then there was a men's 5000 meters which was worn by a
- 18:10Belgian athlete, Isaac Camelli, 13 O 7.
- 18:13Second was Grant Fisher, thirteen O 8 and 3rd.
- 18:17I think that's a Mexican flag, Eduardo Eduardo Herrera, 13 O 9.
- 18:21And then there's a bit of a blanket finish there for 4th,
- 18:255th and 6th. 2 Ethiopians, 2 Kenyan athletes.
- 18:30Graham Blanks back in 8th. Jack Rayner down in 161331.
- 18:35Not really his best run. Was you Thomas down to run in
- 18:38this as well? He paced.
- 18:40I think he paced it. Yeah, OK, but did they go with
- 18:44the pace or did they? I think they might have slowed
- 18:45down a bit, didn't they? Like it ended up going getting
- 18:48quite tactical, I think, and then it was like a burn up at
- 18:50the end. And Grant Fisher was I don't
- 18:53know, he looked really good, like he was daylight like
- 18:55between him and 3rd, but that Isaac Camelli sort of stole the
- 18:59show, didn't he? Like it would have been Grant
- 19:01Fisher would have been looked like a, you know, maybe favorite
- 19:04for for goal for the OR one off. But then he, yeah, I don't know,
- 19:08he just got absolutely burned up in a, in a Sprint towards the
- 19:12line that Isaac Kameli, who I remember him in like European
- 19:16Championships featuring, but I've not seen him in like a
- 19:19World Championships featuring that high up.
- 19:21So that was a bit of a surprise. Like I've not seen him beating
- 19:24The Ethiopians and like Gabriel Wet and those sorts of guys.
- 19:28So that was quite a quite a turn up I reckon.
- 19:31Yeah, It just goes to show, like, you can look at these
- 19:34star-studded fields and like your eyes are drawn to certain
- 19:36names, but then the guy like that just comes along and beats
- 19:39Grant Fisher and, like, a bit of a kick down 5K, you say?
- 19:43Maybe the wet weather? Yeah.
- 19:46Yeah, it felt like a kick down 5K, but yeah, it's still, you
- 19:50know, prior to current times is what would be a paste gun to
- 19:55tapes all the time. So interesting.
- 19:57I I genuinely don't know if if it means anything at all with
- 20:01Reyna finishing and 16th in the 1330 in terms of his
- 20:05qualification. I think he's all, I think he's
- 20:07all right to be fair. Yeah, I think he's already in,
- 20:09right? He's he's because he's run the
- 20:11standard. Yeah, another midweek meet was
- 20:14in the UK at Tooting Athletic Club, I think it's called.
- 20:20So they kind of threw this meat together with titling at the
- 20:23last call for Tokyo. So there was a 3000 meter
- 20:27steeplechase that was set up for the men for the guys chasing the
- 20:31standard there. So that was worn.
- 20:33Unfortunately they didn't I think the standard's 8 minutes
- 20:3515 and it was won in 820. So they all missed out on the
- 20:39standard. I haven't actually seen the race
- 20:41to see like where they on for 2K of it or how it how it kind of
- 20:45fell apart. But it was won by Phil Norman,
- 20:48who's a British athlete and he's kind of been there or there
- 20:51abouts in previous years as well.
- 20:53I think there was a bit of controversy maybe last year
- 20:56because he actually ran the Olympic time or he was in the
- 20:59quota, whichever way round it was, and they didn't choose to
- 21:02take him. So he's been hard done by again,
- 21:05getting so close to the standard and missing out.
- 21:08You'd feel like packing in if that was you.
- 21:10Like you just think it's not meant to be.
- 21:12Like I've done everything I can. I've even on paper qualified and
- 21:16they still won't take me in previous years.
- 21:18But fair play to him for still turning up.
- 21:21And there was two US athletes in second and third.
- 21:23Parker Stokes, Duncan Hamilton, Duncan Hamilton, not too sure
- 21:26who they are, but then there was Australian Ben Buckingham who we
- 21:30spoke about the week prior. Think he ran 815.15 and missed
- 21:36ever so slightly. You know when Ed Trippus ran the
- 21:38record and he's ran 829 here, so wasn't meant to be for him
- 21:43unfortunately either. There was a men's 800 meters,
- 21:46which was fourth out between former bronze medalist Ben
- 21:51Patterson of the UK and Jake Whiteman.
- 21:54So Ben Patterson ended up coming out on top in a 145 point O 7
- 21:59and Whiteman second point O 8. So this was insanely close.
- 22:03And I think Whiteman on his Instagram post, he put up like a
- 22:06bit of a reel of the closing 20 meters or so.
- 22:11And his caption was like almost took Ben's head off because it's
- 22:14like elbows are everywhere and he literally almost like slaps
- 22:18him in the face. For the women, there was an 800
- 22:22meters as well, which was worn by Rebe Walcott Nolan, British
- 22:26girl. And then there's quite a few
- 22:27here to be fair. So you've got then in second
- 22:30Aaron Wallace both running 159's even the girl in 3rd Isabel
- 22:35Buffy 159 high 4th, the girl who won the British 1500 meters
- 22:40Sarah Calvert 2 minutes flat and then Owens country woman Sarah
- 22:46Healy back in 7th run the PB though in 2.2 minutes flat .19.
- 22:52Yeah, she'd be happy with that. She like that the drop down in
- 22:56distance and that's going to make 1500 pace feel a lot
- 22:59easier. So I mean eyes paled now because
- 23:02the qualifying window closes today and I know that for UK
- 23:07Athletics they'll be making all their discretionary system
- 23:10decisions rather in the coming days and looking at how fast
- 23:14like 3 or 4 girls have ran here, I've no idea what that means.
- 23:18But the the announcements will come this week I think.
- 23:21But Sarah would be a walk into the 1500 meter team anyway I
- 23:25think, wouldn't she Owen? Yeah, they'd pay her to go.
- 23:30So that takes us to the second Diamond League meet of the week,
- 23:32which was in Brussels on Friday night.
- 23:35I think it was woke up to to that on Saturday morning.
- 23:39Do is a women's 1500 meters, which is won by the American
- 23:42athlete Nikki Hilts in 355.94. So I think she's just missed the
- 23:48US record there of Shelby. They shall not be named.
- 23:52No, I was. I was pausing because I realized
- 23:54that I referred to Nikki as she, but I'm not going to edit it.
- 23:59You can get gather that I mean they and I'll try and refer to
- 24:03them as they from here on out. So they just missed Shelby
- 24:08Houlihan's 354.99 national record.
- 24:11And then second was Linden Hall of Australia 356.33 and 3rd
- 24:17Nellie Chapter chair of Kenya 357.35 and noticeable honourable
- 24:22mention for Laura Muir of GB in four 357.63.
- 24:27So couple of points here, but I don't know.
- 24:30Did you guys watch this? Yeah, yeah, sort of.
- 24:33Their win. Yeah.
- 24:35I mean, I think Nikki was like it was just a fun race to watch
- 24:39because I think were we talking about this just in terms of like
- 24:42pace with your pay if you're running into the wind or let's
- 24:45say there's not too much wind. The energy costs associated with
- 24:48like, going gun to tape, you know, just with some of these
- 24:51athletes in the 1500, how much it costs.
- 24:53But sort of Linden Hall had a pacemaker and that I think she
- 24:57was just behind the pacemakers for a bit and then managed to
- 24:59get on to the pacemakers. And she had like a gap of, I
- 25:03don't know what was it maybe like 30 meters or so to the
- 25:07chase group. But the chase group were moving
- 25:09pretty well. And like, Lyndon, was that APB
- 25:12356? I can't remember.
- 25:14Yeah. So like, she's like running a
- 25:18really strong race out front. And then the chase group
- 25:21obviously had to quite a bit of work to do.
- 25:25And yeah, it was just really exciting because you felt like
- 25:27Linden Hall was going to hold, hold on.
- 25:29But Nikki was too strong, right? They just ran over the top of
- 25:32her legs. The last 200 meters just closed
- 25:35was probably just a bit too classy.
- 25:37But otherwise, like, I think Linden ran really sensibly.
- 25:40And I suspect that's what she'll do come the world champs.
- 25:43That's often actually often doesn't mind front running.
- 25:45So if you're fit and you run through like in the heats, that
- 25:50way you generally just run. You don't leave it to chance
- 25:53for, you know, the speeds. So I just thought it was a a
- 25:57cool race to to to watch. It was a good like just
- 26:00different to just the whole group going on the pacing lights
- 26:03and it playing out like that. Yeah, it was an incredibly bold
- 26:07run from her to get up the way she did and kind of just chance
- 26:11it, I guess. But the pack let her go, didn't
- 26:13they? And then you get to that like
- 26:16the bell, and you're like, Oh no, is it closing?
- 26:18Is it closing? And you've just got so much of
- 26:21an advantage, like knowing exactly where they are and like
- 26:26exactly how much distance you need to close.
- 26:28And as Nikki did, you can almost time it to the point where,
- 26:33like, you pass them two meters before the line and they've got
- 26:36no time to respond. And like, it wasn't like Linden
- 26:40Hall misjudged or anything. I think she had the last two
- 26:42laps that were sort of commentators for announcing
- 26:44splits. It was like 63.
- 26:46It was like 64 then 63 point 763.7 was like the two.
- 26:51I'm pretty sure her last two laps were almost identical so it
- 26:54was like she distributed her effort as good as she could
- 26:57have. Nikki was just too good, I
- 26:59think. Next up there was a women's 5000
- 27:03meter race and I didn't actually see this one so I'll just read
- 27:06the results and see if you guys watched it.
- 27:07There was. It was won by Agnes Negasich of
- 27:10Kenya in 1424, second was Lakina Ambor of Ethiopia in 1431 and
- 27:173rd was also an Ethiopian woman, Ashley for Wiki in 1431.
- 27:23Further down the field in terms of noticeable athletes was
- 27:27Insurance Fitzgerald who Jake was mentioning that he was a big
- 27:31supporter of because she was part of his training set up with
- 27:35Joe. And I think the guy's name Gavin
- 27:38maybe, but they're definitely surname is Pavey.
- 27:41So she ran 1448, but I don't think that means anything in
- 27:45terms of her selection because she already had the standard.
- 27:48So yeah, did did anyone see this?
- 27:50Anything noticeable? I didn't see anything.
- 27:53I just think it's crazy. Well you're 1 Angus thing, get
- 27:55it? Like she's been around but the
- 27:57two Ethiopians below her like you never hear them before.
- 28:01Running 1431. Yeah, I didn't see it, but I did
- 28:05when I was flicking through a scene that she was on the pace
- 28:07lights for a while this negatish like it was a solo run from her
- 28:11and then once a scene that much that was also seeing.
- 28:14So she's ran 1424 by herself essentially and I think she was
- 28:18on sub 14 pace for a little while and has faded, but she
- 28:22gave herself that much of a gap that she was never in any doubt
- 28:26there for the win. Then there was the men's 1500
- 28:28meters, which was incredibly exciting, worn by the Dutchman.
- 28:33So Jake Smith called him for his gold medal, didn't he?
- 28:36Nails Laros and he's won in 330.58 from Fanwell Cowich,
- 28:42which if we think back to the London Diamond League the other
- 28:44week, this guy won that race and I'll kick Josh Kerr up the
- 28:48straight but he had no answer to Neil's Laros here.
- 28:52He was second in 331.41 and Armand the Goose was third.
- 28:58He had the goose in 331.51 and then just to go through the rest
- 29:03of the field in terms of depth, there was Isaac Nadir, Reynold
- 29:06Chariot, Jake Whiteman, Neil Gurley and Andrew Koskaran and
- 29:11Hobbs Khosla Ship. It's a shame that you have to
- 29:14scroll all the way down to 14th to see Hobbs Kessler's name
- 29:17doesn't look like it's going to be his year.
- 29:20But you guys didn't see this race.
- 29:21No, no. So Laros literally obliterated
- 29:27them coming up that homestretch. Like the rest of them are kind
- 29:31of like spent, not spent, but you know, to the point where
- 29:34they haven't got like 100% to kick down, whereas Kouach and
- 29:37him, they still had something to give.
- 29:39And if you can re picture that closing 100 meters in the London
- 29:43Diamond League where coach kind of like blew Josh Caraway, like
- 29:48looking at Laros alongside him, it was like, wow, if this guy's
- 29:52like anywhere near that the group come 50 meters to go in
- 29:57Tokyo, it could be curtains for them and like that's a 330 race
- 30:01as well. So it's going to have to be
- 30:03three 28327 you'd think like the people aren't going to be
- 30:07letting this guy kick. I think I was trying to think
- 30:09who would from run it like care would like it to be fast because
- 30:13then think he's like a notoriously quick closer as he
- 30:16likes to go from 5-6 hundred out if he can if he gets there.
- 30:22But it didn't work for him in the trial, so it might be a bit
- 30:25gunshot. And then you've got the Joker
- 30:27card of Jakob. Like if he's there, I'm sure he
- 30:30would. Well, I mean, maybe he's learnt
- 30:32his lesson as well and he wouldn't like to do it.
- 30:35I put money on it. He won't be there for the 15, I
- 30:37don't think. Gives us a few more weeks to
- 30:40think about our picks anyway, and I think it'd be a bit too
- 30:43hasty to call them now on the spot.
- 30:45I need to actually do some analysis and think about it
- 30:49properly, but Koskren 13335 that's all right.
- 30:53He's had a long season racing everywhere, isn't he?
- 30:56Yeah, it's so hard to keep it up for like that long.
- 30:59Like he's kept it up throughout the whole summer.
- 31:00So like a little dip a few weeks out before the the championship.
- 31:04So I don't think he'd be that worried about like he'll be
- 31:06peaking in a couple of weeks, hopefully.
- 31:08I've seen an interview with Whiteman after the race as well
- 31:12and he's saying like a little bit disappointed.
- 31:14The kind that wasn't really in it when it once it got going,
- 31:16Like I was there with 200 to go and then as soon as everyone
- 31:19starts opening the legs, man didn't want to do it.
- 31:22And usually that's his strength. Like usually you can close.
- 31:27So interesting for even him to be saying like off these type of
- 31:31paces, I can't close as hard as I'd like.
- 31:33Like these guys are just so fit and so fast.
- 31:36So now I think you guys are going to talk to us about the
- 31:40cross country and the half marathon in Northern Ireland.
- 31:43Yep, so it was Australian national cross country champs on
- 31:48in Bathurst. So I think they've got them for
- 31:51the next three years, and this, I think, was year #1 three
- 31:55years. This is my double trouble.
- 31:58If you can drive, if you can drive a quad bike on a cross
- 32:02country course, it's not cross country.
- 32:04It's a fucking muddy golf course.
- 32:06So. Yeah, I I appreciate you tuning
- 32:09in. Mic drop.
- 32:16It was quite well manicured, wasn't it?
- 32:19Yeah, that's one way to put it. I yeah, when I when I tuned into
- 32:23the live stream, so I'm not a huge cross country fan.
- 32:25I feel like I'm going to injure myself and I don't know, I
- 32:28prefer a fast flat Rd. surfers personally, But when I saw that
- 32:32I thought, oh, I could give that a go.
- 32:33Like it was quite. It was real pleasant.
- 32:36It was real, like American cross country, sort of that sort.
- 32:40Of vibe, yeah, maybe without any much elevation change from the
- 32:44looks of it as well, didn't it? No, definitely no elevation.
- 32:47Yeah, the have you seen, have you ever tuned into it when
- 32:52we've had like is it world champ selection trials at Stromlo
- 32:57ahead of the Bathurst world cross country champs?
- 33:01Did you have you seen the? Footage I heard about, I heard
- 33:03about that place. It's like a man made cross
- 33:06country course. It's beauty, yeah.
- 33:08And again, it's all like quite manicured, the grass, but it
- 33:11does have the like a really nice profile to it.
- 33:13Whereas I think Bathurst was more a bit flatter.
- 33:16Like they, they introduced elements, didn't they?
- 33:18They were it's like a mud pit and like hay bales they had to
- 33:22navigate. Listeners can't see Owen's eyes
- 33:27rolling to the back of his head as he describing the tough
- 33:30elements of the Australian cross country.
- 33:33Yeah, and it was a nice day weather wise as well.
- 33:35So it's pretty pleasant. But look, it made for good.
- 33:39It made for clear pitches and some exciting races.
- 33:43Before I get I get into the open results, just a shout out.
- 33:47So because we have pre like so we all train or did train under
- 33:51the front runner banner. One of the girls that trains
- 33:54with the like junior group took out the girls under fourteens
- 34:00right, so fake Potter. So just a shout out to West
- 34:04Aussie. So like when I was growing up, I
- 34:06raced national cross years 9 through 12 and we were like
- 34:11perennial like 4th and 4th. And like we, we didn't finish.
- 34:14We were like we would at the end of the meets call out pay anyone
- 34:18that finished inside the top 10 for WA.
- 34:20Like we would not normally feature that heavily.
- 34:22Like it was the Eastern states that dominated.
- 34:24So, and we sometimes use the analogy of like taking like a
- 34:28knife to a gunfight in terms of we were, we just came up against
- 34:32athletes and kids that had more sophisticated groups and
- 34:35training programs and structures.
- 34:36So just nice to see someone from our local club sort of being
- 34:40able to mix it with the best runners of her age group
- 34:44nationally. And she judged it really well.
- 34:45She was sort of, there's another W Aussie that was leading for
- 34:48most of the race and then there was 3 girls chasing her down,
- 34:52fake being one of them and she sort of just came over the top
- 34:55late and searched time for the win.
- 34:57So that was a cool start to the morning and then I think they
- 35:00had a break and rolled into the opens men's races.
- 35:05Yeah, I'd argue that that group of girls that is in front runner
- 35:09like that age is just such a tight knit.
- 35:11Like you just see them, they're always chatting.
- 35:14They're such a like good bunch that like love training.
- 35:18So yeah, it's a really good atmosphere there and like the
- 35:20results sort of speak for themselves.
- 35:22Yeah, exactly. You can you, you get the vibe,
- 35:24don't you? With the, you can sort of see it
- 35:27because we're not close to, we sort of train alongside them,
- 35:29but you can sort of see how they're having fun at training,
- 35:32but also sort of when they need to take it seriously.
- 35:35You know, it's sort of they've got the vibe right, don't they?
- 35:38Yeah, absolutely. In contrast to Owen's double
- 35:40trouble on the golf buggy slash quad bike, it was good that it
- 35:44provided us with upfront footage for the duration of the race.
- 35:48And then they had the I think they must have had a drone in
- 35:51the sky or something kind of following with panoramic shots.
- 35:53Like for a race that I don't want to call it low key, but
- 35:57like cross country to get footage like that was quite
- 35:59cool, wasn't it? Yeah, you're right.
- 36:00And yeah, you might have like Tim Crosby, who sort of he hosts
- 36:05like the like, you know, those like Mila's mates in Melbourne
- 36:09and is like event director for the Melbourne like the Melbourne
- 36:14Running Festival. He I thought did a great job.
- 36:18If he's it's all through the ages.
- 36:20He has such great knowledge. I mean, particularly of the
- 36:23Victorian athletes. But he did, you know, like
- 36:25Rafford given some some comments of fake.
- 36:27And So what are those sort of coaches around wants to watch
- 36:29out for and sort of referring to his notes and his ability to
- 36:32rattle off all these names through all the age groups
- 36:35throughout the the commentary section.
- 36:36They're sort of talking for hours.
- 36:38I don't know. I thought it was, yeah, it was a
- 36:39really good stream given it's not mainstream enough to make
- 36:42like our national broadcasting services.
- 36:44So like, yeah, I thought they they did a very good job.
- 36:47It was sort of a good day of racing.
- 36:51But yeah, in the men's, the men's was on 1st, the men's
- 36:56senior race. So the winner was Zach Fatchio,
- 36:59Patchione, second was Aidan Belton and 3rd was Matt Buckle.
- 37:04They sort of were your top three.
- 37:07And I don't know if you guys saw the race, but they were sort of,
- 37:11it sort of started off in a big group and then it was, it was a
- 37:15bit tactical early. There was probably 15 or so at
- 37:18least in that lead group. And then I think it was Matt
- 37:20Buckle, who I think is from Bendigo, sort of like a regional
- 37:24Victorian town near to where the Champs were hosted, sort of made
- 37:27a move. And I think that Aiden Belton
- 37:30was sort of followed the move and then that Zach Fetcher and
- 37:34he sort of bridged a gap and caught up to them.
- 37:36And it was really those three. And then Zach was sort of the
- 37:39strongest of the three. But yeah, it was it like it was
- 37:42a really, it was an enjoyable race.
- 37:44Like a few guys fired different shots at different times.
- 37:46And I think it's a bit more open.
- 37:48Like there's most of the a lot of the sort of top Australian
- 37:51runners are overseas chasing times at the minute.
- 37:54So it sort of meant that there was an opportunity there for
- 37:57someone, someone else to to get the win.
- 38:00And I think sort of Zach is part of that on group, which I think
- 38:02Ben's gone over to join on Oceania.
- 38:06So sort of one of the coaches at front runners over there
- 38:09coaching would be coaching Zach now.
- 38:11So it'd be cool to get his insights on how that's going at
- 38:14some point. But yeah, that was a good run.
- 38:16And I thought I was quite surprised I hadn't heard of like
- 38:19I'd heard of Matt Buckle. I remember watching a Victorian
- 38:225K state champs where he, Isaac Kane had come over from South
- 38:26Australia to race it and someone else was in it.
- 38:30I've forgotten then. I've forgotten who it was.
- 38:32But there was some other people that he sort of beat out a
- 38:34pretty good 5K field to win, have to I think might have been
- 38:37in it. And so I remember.
- 38:39So I sort of knew his name and I knew of Zach.
- 38:41I did, but I hadn't heard of that Adrian Belton at all.
- 38:45And I sort of looked up his World Athletics profile and I
- 38:47feel like he's like, so in like 2021, his PB for 3K was 859, his
- 38:55season's best. Perry's World Athletics profile,
- 38:57he was like A15445K runner and then he sort of progressed down
- 39:02in 2024. He, you know, he's come down
- 39:05from 859-840-1828, eight, 12819 over the 3K and then 15441519
- 39:12and 1355. So I don't know his story, but I
- 39:16feel like it'd be an interesting one because I feel like he's
- 39:19probably, he's obviously come on like he was very competitive in
- 39:21that race, countering every move and was really in it to win it
- 39:25and racing guys that are probably a bit more, you know,
- 39:28certainly high profile athletes domestically.
- 39:30So yeah, a very good run by him. Would he be part of any Saints
- 39:34group? Because I'm sure it was him who
- 39:36over the weekend put up a story of an athlete, like just a photo
- 39:39of them running at nationals and like kind of commending them.
- 39:43And he was commenting on, because it was a name I'd heard
- 39:46of but wasn't too familiar with him, was like commenting on this
- 39:49guy's range. Like maybe he's a 1500m runner
- 39:52and he ran this really good 10K cross country on the weekend.
- 39:57I can't think who it was now off the top of my head and the story
- 40:00would have gone annoyingly. Bugger.
- 40:02Yeah, OK, Very possible, yeah. So he ran for New South.
- 40:06He runs for he, he was, he was in a NSW singlet.
- 40:10So very possible, yeah. Was that like a a royal blue
- 40:13colour? Like a light, like a lighter,
- 40:15like, like Navy blue was the Victorian and then yeah,
- 40:18lighter, like, yeah, blue was the NSW.
- 40:22And then in the women's race, run very different to the men's
- 40:25and men, sort of was in a group pack and a sort of everyone was
- 40:28waiting and, you know, biting their time where it was sort of
- 40:31like the winner. Bronte Oates sort of went from
- 40:34gun, gun to tape, didn't she? And Jenny Blundell and Georgia
- 40:38Hansen were second and third. They were sort of trying to
- 40:43bridge up to her I think quite a few times.
- 40:45You sort of the gap never got to the point where it was
- 40:47completely obvious that she was going to win.
- 40:49But Nick Bronte Oates won the Sydney City to Surf the other
- 40:53week, so she must have been in some decent form.
- 40:56And yeah, she sort of just took it out pretty aggressively,
- 40:59which I know. You know, when you watch those
- 41:01junior cross country races, you'll see one of the athletes
- 41:03just go and they're like complete red zone and it will be
- 41:085 minutes of them sort of in the limelight.
- 41:10But, you know, they're just gonna be flooded with lactate
- 41:12and get rolled, whereas you just know that, like, senior athletes
- 41:16don't normally run that way. And so she, when she looked
- 41:19strong at the start and you initially was probably pretty
- 41:21confident and, yeah, no one could catch her.
- 41:23I don't think the gap was that huge in the end.
- 41:25But she was just, yeah, 20 seconds.
- 41:27But she was just too good. Never really, I don't think ever
- 41:31looked like look, look like losing.
- 41:33I think it's so commendable when you're that strong and it's
- 41:37almost like when you you know you're the best and you stand on
- 41:40the start line and go. I'm not allowing this to be any
- 41:43sort of race and tactics coming into it.
- 41:46I know I'm the fittest and I know I'm the fastest, so I'm
- 41:49just going to run the fastest time from the gun and I just
- 41:51know that you won't be able to keep up with me.
- 41:53So that's the way I'm going to win and what you're going to do
- 41:56about it. So if I'm like in some light
- 41:58local, you know, when you're racing like that, some people
- 42:01might just bluff the other person and just who's prepared
- 42:04to take themselves further into the red before someone slows
- 42:07down. But I.
- 42:09Remember, you recall in a few times you've used this tactic in
- 42:12the past. Giving away trade secrets there,
- 42:17That's clubhouse chat. So if you see Dean, Dean, go,
- 42:22don't let him go. I'm bluffing.
- 42:27Well, maybe in a good time to say that you won't be doing that
- 42:31at any point this weekend. Certainly not at Sydney, which,
- 42:34no, you can't. It was nice that they mentioned
- 42:37you and you got a feature there in like the elite men's field.
- 42:40But not there are you nor City Surf, I don't think.
- 42:44No nor Amaya 2080910K guy but. You take it.
- 42:50Where did they pull that out of? You know what I think?
- 42:54You know when your Strava wigs out that could be pulled from
- 42:57there. Dare I say they clicked into the
- 43:00full distance? Maybe that could be.
- 43:02Maybe they'd heard a double trouble about your your Strava
- 43:05time being your 10K time so. It wasn't you run the other week
- 43:09where you went into the ocean. Was it on your GPS give?
- 43:12You the tech data that was 26 something so.
- 43:16Dropped a 133 kilometer. But yeah, that was nationals, so
- 43:25yeah. So they did a great job.
- 43:27Right over to the Emerald Isle where there was, uh, the Antrim
- 43:33half marathon. So I think like I only heard
- 43:35about this when I was in Australia actually, that there
- 43:37was a really fast half marathon in Ireland.
- 43:40Umm, uh, when your man, because your man Ryan Gregson ran really
- 43:43fast over here, but I think the course record is 58 something
- 43:48and it's so scenic. So you start in the city and
- 43:51then you run out. It's sort of like the way I, I'd
- 43:54explain it. It's like the Great Ocean Road.
- 43:56You sort of run out a road like that, except it's like pancake
- 43:58flat. And then you, you go do a little
- 44:011K loop and you come back out the same road and yeah, it's
- 44:05really, really fast. I think Mo Farah ran a couple of
- 44:09years ago. Where?
- 44:10Where is it? It's up Northern Ireland, so
- 44:13it's Northern Ireland. So it's in Northern Ireland, OK.
- 44:16Yeah, yeah. So one of them counties, yeah.
- 44:19If you look up, there's a the Giant's Causeway.
- 44:22It's like one of the like go to attractions.
- 44:24I think it's up near, well, that's an Antrim as well.
- 44:27So umm, yeah. Anyway Jeffrey Kamwarer from
- 44:33Kenya won in 5951 and second was today say get on from Israel in
- 44:406121 and 3rd was Phil Sessman in 6122.
- 44:46So the way this race planned out was 2 Kenyans went off and
- 44:51actually Ephraim G'day, the Irish guy who he's a hocus
- 44:56sponsored athlete, he was pacing them.
- 44:58So he brought him to like 10K in like 27 high or something crazy.
- 45:04But soon. Enough.
- 45:06I think the the 5K split was 1345.
- 45:10Yeah, like they were on like 58, low pace, but soon and one of
- 45:14their canyons, I think he ended up finishing sixth in 63 O3.
- 45:17He dropped off pretty early, so it was just a man front running
- 45:21the whole time. And then there's a group of four
- 45:24so that today, say, get on Phil Sesame and Sandra Moen and
- 45:28Hendrick Fiffer, they were all, they were all together.
- 45:31So they finished within like 5 seconds of each other.
- 45:36So yeah. So they won the men's side and
- 45:41the women's side was won by Mizan Alam from Ethiopia in
- 45:456538. Second was Loisi Chumung from I
- 45:52don't know where, it doesn't say from N 66 O six.
- 45:56And third was Sen yet Ghetto at you I think in 6333.
- 46:02And then over mentioned 4th Caroline Grovedale from Norway N
- 46:076726. Cali Hagar Thackery from the UK
- 46:12was 6939 and Charlotte Purdue was 7058.
- 46:17So not the fuss I think. Cali Thackery.
- 46:20She ran in Maragami when we ran, didn't she?
- 46:23Yes. She has my husband.
- 46:25Yeah, she was paced by a husband that day and her husband was on
- 46:30the start list of this one. He ran 65 something.
- 46:35Maybe today, because when I seen it, I was wondering is he paced
- 46:39her again because they announced the maybe it's either New York
- 46:43or Chicago or should really know but she's doing one of them and
- 46:47her husband is on the men's elite list as well.
- 46:50But then they were both clarifying that he is her
- 46:54personal pacer and not actually racing the men's elite field.
- 46:58So 10th Nick Hagar in 65 O 9 so. It did, it did say on the
- 47:06commentary excited on because we found the stream didn't wait
- 47:09that she was going for the British record today, which is
- 47:12Hailish Mccolgans like 6530 something so and then she's
- 47:18around 69. So obviously it hasn't been a
- 47:20great run. She does actually follow our
- 47:22Instagram page, so it's we don't want to be doing her too much
- 47:27injustice because she might be a supporter and a listener.
- 47:31No, but call a spade a spade. What did she run in Maragami?
- 47:34Yeah, she ran 6658. Yeah, not a good run there, but
- 47:39she's she's probably doing World Championships, is she?
- 47:42Yeah, I think she's in the marathon selection.
- 47:44Yeah, so look, she might have had a bad run there today, but
- 47:47I'm sure she'll she just has heavy legs and a marathon build.
- 47:50Jeffrey Cam roar? Was that the Jeffrey Cam Roar
- 47:55like the former life? Yeah, yeah, I think so, because
- 47:57Chap's the guy was on the start list as well, and he was a late
- 48:00scratch. He runs.
- 48:02Wait, an Ant team? That an Ant team?
- 48:04I think he trains with Kachogo basically.
- 48:05Have you seen the footage? Was it the Cardiff world champs
- 48:092016? And I think they all, he falls
- 48:12at the start and there's footage of him getting trampled and then
- 48:15he like sprints up and he's like, cuz they're, I think the
- 48:18mass might have been like a mass participation race ahead of the
- 48:21World Championships. And he just launches and then
- 48:24starts like pegging his way through it and burns for
- 48:26everyone and then wins the world championship after like getting
- 48:31pummeled. I think he held the world record
- 48:33I think for the half marathon back in the day.
- 48:35But I feel like I haven't heard his name in a while.
- 48:37Like, that's like 10 years ago. I think he's won it twice, the
- 48:41World Championships in the half marathon.
- 48:42Yeah, there you go. Yeah.
- 48:44So either he was incredibly young when he was very good
- 48:47because like we knew of him back then, or like he's just a lot
- 48:51older than you think now. Car.
- 48:52Or something. Did he Something felt like he
- 48:55had an injury or something out of the game for a while.
- 48:58I could be. I could be.
- 49:01Something very deep back in the brain there, like I've got this
- 49:04funny feeling he got hit by a car.
- 49:07We might have to cut that. That's all good.
- 49:09We'll we'll move on and if you find that he was hit by a car,
- 49:12then you can let us know that's actually it's got World
- 49:16Athletics. Whatever the is it like it's not
- 49:20premium is it what's the it's? A Gold Label event or.
- 49:24It's really, yeah. You get really good points from
- 49:26it. So I bet you that Efrem G Day
- 49:30got a decent payday there for doing the pacing like of the
- 49:33very front crew. Plug this way.
- 49:35He didn't do it for free. And he got hit.
- 49:39Sorry. No, no breaking news.
- 49:41Important update. Yeah, he got training for the
- 49:432021 Tokyo Olympics. He got hit by a motorbike, heard
- 49:47his foot was out. There you go.
- 49:49There you go. I wonder if that was, is he
- 49:52Kenyan? Yeah.
- 49:53Yeah. So I wonder if that was by one
- 49:55of those like, the most excuses who give you a lift back from
- 49:59your session when you're stranded.
- 50:01But the wheels came off after that for a while for sure
- 50:03because I haven't heard of him for a bit.
- 50:05Now he's back running 6060 low but yet another pacer before we
- 50:10just move on. Mark Scott either paced the
- 50:13second group or the women and he's a name who I haven't really
- 50:17heard much of recently so I was wondering what he was up to.
- 50:20Yeah, he was definitely pacing, but I think he like walked it
- 50:22in. I don't know what he was at.
- 50:24Would you look to do that race? Yeah, if I was probably the best
- 50:29half marathon in Ireland, but yeah, it's just the time of the
- 50:34year falls, well, it probably would work.
- 50:36See you sort of train for track season and like I feel like it
- 50:39is different like 5K training to half marathon training.
- 50:42So you sort of have to pick one or the other.
- 50:45Is it much cooler? Like not trying to joke about
- 50:48the Irish heat wave, but is it at all like the weather must
- 50:51have been nice for for for the half I assume?
- 50:54No, it's humid man. It like like.
- 50:56So it is still hot. Yeah, it's really sticky and not
- 50:59nice. OK, so maybe that's why the
- 51:01times were not. Maybe some of these times were
- 51:04not. I like that Jeffrey Cantora's
- 51:07run like 58 flat. So like, maybe it's not he blew
- 51:11up. He blew apart but yeah the
- 51:13weather is like given a month and it will get cold.
- 51:16Yeah, but it must be sorry. Like it mustn't be too bad.
- 51:20Like because is it normally held this time of year?
- 51:23If so, like it must just be a bit unseasonably hot at the
- 51:26minute. It's really weird.
- 51:28Like it's not normal, like how humid it is.
- 51:30Well, I've been here for the last two years, but yeah, it's
- 51:32weird. Like I think global warming is
- 51:34actually real. I was going to say as well, if
- 51:37we're saying that Cali Thackeray didn't have the greatest run.
- 51:41Another thing which came to mind when you read them out,
- 51:43Charlotte Purdue, haven't heard her name for a while.
- 51:46And if she ran 70 high, she's a 221 or 222 marathoner.
- 51:52So I mean, perhaps this is her first run in a while, but there
- 51:56she's capable than better than that too.
- 51:58Yeah, I haven't heard from her. Like last time I actually heard
- 52:00from her was she like rolled her ankle a week out from the
- 52:03Olympic marathon. And since then, I know she's
- 52:06changed brand. She's now a Pumatly.
- 52:07She was Adidas. But yeah, I haven't heard from
- 52:10her at all. Fun fact, actually, I when I was
- 52:13in Melbourne, I hopped in a session and I was sort of like
- 52:17running with Charlotte. So yeah, she's an unbelievable
- 52:20lately. Whereabouts was that?
- 52:24Glen Waverley, that grass track that MTC run around.
- 52:28Was the rest of the MTC lot there?
- 52:30Yeah, come here. I was there real early.
- 52:34I was like the first one there and I was just sitting on a
- 52:35bench and like, next thing like, Brett Robinson walks by, Jack
- 52:39Rayner walks by, Sue Mix Wayne walks by, freaking Charlotte
- 52:43Purdue walks by. It was just, yeah, starstruck,
- 52:49like trying to explain to people that like the Aussie marathon
- 52:53record holder at the time, Aussie half marathon record
- 52:56holder Jack Rayner, 10K record holder Stu Mcswain, all the
- 53:00records he has, like just trying to comprehend like who I was
- 53:04training with the people was, yeah, it's just crazy.
- 53:06But I was just running. That was my so I was just coming
- 53:10back from my stress fracture and I think I was doing like 4K runs
- 53:14or something like that. And within that session I like
- 53:1716 who's like redlining in the warm up.
- 53:24It's funny, but no memories to last a lifetime.
- 53:27Was was the loads of other people on the track as well or
- 53:30just literally them lot on you? No, no, there was loads and.
- 53:34Oh, so you could blend in well. Yeah, I was just with the girls
- 53:37group. Was Tobin White there?
- 53:40He the first time I went there he wasn't there, but the second
- 53:43time he was there but I like I didn't say hi to him or
- 53:46anything. I was too shy.
- 53:49Yes. So that, that's funny because
- 53:50that would have been around the time then that my Whiteman story
- 53:54comes from, because she was on that long run as well.
- 53:57So that session that you've seen her at would have either been
- 54:00like the week before that or the week after that or something.
- 54:03Yeah, that's funny. But yeah, I was just trying to
- 54:06have a look if she's on the road to Tokyo at all whilst we were
- 54:11speaking about that, if you guys can.
- 54:14Will we fail? Yeah, yeah.
- 54:17I'll just go our weekly section of doping news.
- 54:21Yeah. So this basically on the week,
- 54:25Marina, Becca, Roman, Chuck. So basically she's a Ukrainian
- 54:31triple jumper and long jumper. She got popped for taking
- 54:35testosterone. And like, nothing crazy there.
- 54:38It's just her representative is the same as Ruth Schepengetic,
- 54:48the marathon record holder, so same representative, Federico
- 54:54Rossa. So if you actually go on to that
- 54:56World Athletics, you can like go into your one who's got popped.
- 55:00And then you can there's another little section saying at the
- 55:03representative and it shows Federico Rosa.
- 55:05And then it shows like all the athletes he represents.
- 55:08And I think it's like 6 of the top ten fastest women of all or
- 55:13No 6 marathon major winners have been popped.
- 55:18And he all represents them all. And yeah, basically this lad is
- 55:22rotten. And like, his mobile number is
- 55:23there his e-mail. So I wonder if he'd give him a
- 55:26rang or e-mail them. But he come on the pod.
- 55:31And we'll, we'll get, we'll get him added into the club.
- 55:33I'll see what he's got to say for himself.
- 55:35Yeah. So yeah, it doesn't look great.
- 55:37And like other athletes he represents is Aragawi A5K guy
- 55:42that's run super vast. Um, Beatrice Chibet, that chick
- 55:46that broke 14 minutes for the 5K and Jacob Kiblimo, the half
- 55:52marathon world record holder. Guy.
- 55:54He's right, so I'm not, I'm just saying he represents all these
- 55:56guys, nothing else. He just represents really
- 55:59actually Daryl Neeta. No, I'm not saying all these
- 56:01are, but just interesting like the range that.
- 56:04To Bogo's on there as well. Bogo, Yeah.
- 56:06Bogo followed our Instagram page.
- 56:08Listen. Come on, Owen.
- 56:12Well, yeah, I know. It's just crazy that.
- 56:13Not to BOGO. A lot of his athletes have been
- 56:16caught. So yeah, Mike Ryan, send him an
- 56:19e-mail. See what he come on.
- 56:22You know, I was, I was thinking about this as well, like because
- 56:25Gabby Thomas has done that post during the week, hasn't she,
- 56:28where she's saying, I think this is targeted towards like the US
- 56:32track athlete to train under. Is it Dennis Mitchell or
- 56:36something? He's had a load of trouble in
- 56:38the past with Open and she's essentially saying if you
- 56:42associate yourself with a coach who's basically got a bad
- 56:45record, then you're guilty by association almost.
- 56:49And I know it's kind of controversial, but I think like
- 56:52with Rosa, at least ways, he's had so many athletes getting
- 56:56done for it and his reputation is like atrocious.
- 56:59Why would you not if you are represented by him?
- 57:02If you're clean, why would you not distance yourself from that
- 57:05and like, go somewhere else unless you have something to
- 57:08hide? And you've seen people do that.
- 57:10Do you remember when there was all that talk around a heat
- 57:14coming towards the Nike Oregon Project and before that folded
- 57:18everyone left? Well, isn't, isn't that where
- 57:20Farah's kind of shade comes from?
- 57:22Because he like hung around a little bit too long and wouldn't
- 57:25really help him when he was like, pressed about it and
- 57:28stuff. And I don't know if he offended
- 57:29him as such, but he he certainly evaded criticizing him.
- 57:33Yeah. But yeah, it's the obvious move,
- 57:34isn't it? It's wrong.
- 57:37I don't like it. The next item on the agenda then
- 57:40is Sydney Marathon Preview. So coming up, I don't really
- 57:43know how to do this justice, but coming up next weekend is Sydney
- 57:48Marathon first year as a world marathon major.
- 57:51So I know there's quite a few athletes from Frontrunner and WA
- 57:54travelling over to run that and it's something which how they
- 57:58have been fit I would have loved to be involved in.
- 58:00Like because it's in inverted commas, Sydney Marathon.
- 58:04Like it's hard to reframe the fact that it's now a world major
- 58:08and comparable to like Chicago, Boston, Berlin, London, like
- 58:13it's literally on the same playing field.
- 58:15So you'd think that the atmosphere is going to be
- 58:17insane. You've got Kipchogi on the start
- 58:20line, you've got Stefan Hassan on the start line.
- 58:23And we're kind of, I know some of the listeners aren't
- 58:26Australian. So with us being exposed to the
- 58:30Australian run and seeing a lot, we're kind of feeling or like
- 58:33the hype and the, the build up towards it.
- 58:35And it seems like like the whole weekend is going to be so sick
- 58:39because there's so many like events, all the brands are
- 58:41involved are sex on, they're all doing like all these activations
- 58:46and stuff. So it is a little bit of FOMO in
- 58:49not being over there. But nevertheless, I wanted to
- 58:53ask you guys who your picks would be from both a race winner
- 58:59and an Australian only perspective, because that's kind
- 59:02of the underlying agenda that's going on, isn't it?
- 59:06Like, well, at least within Australia, like the rest of the
- 59:08world, we'll just purely be looking at who wins.
- 59:11But we kind of know that there's this big prize money on for the
- 59:14first Australian and 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th I think wasn't it from
- 59:1930 grand? And they pay all the way down to
- 59:22I think it might even 2500 or gone.
- 59:26Yeah, down to fifth, Yeah. So we're following kind of like
- 59:30those storylines where they might be finishing maybe top
- 59:33five, top ten, but they won't get most of the major media
- 59:36coverage worldwide, but certainly within Australia it's
- 59:39a massive storyline. So you guys got anything to
- 59:42offer? There, you're on.
- 59:44Mute I haven't a clue about any of them Kenyans and Ethiopians
- 59:48the only guy I know I want to see your man Edward Trezorick.
- 59:51I'd like to see him run well, but regards to the Australian
- 59:55side that is so like there's so many massive names in Australian
- 1:00:01distance running there. Like we even just see how half
- 1:00:03two strengths off and Sam Kiefer go but.
- 1:00:06Really, it'd be hard to look past Brett like he is extremely
- 1:00:10talented, but um, you'd imagine like just be interesting to see
- 1:00:14what way the race plays out. Like will anyone go hard?
- 1:00:17Like, we'll have to just go for it and try and drop everyone
- 1:00:20because have to. He ran faster than Bretton
- 1:00:23Maragami in the half marathon. So look, yeah, it's going to be
- 1:00:26super, super interesting to see how that goes.
- 1:00:28But my picks are going to be Ed Chesrick in the actual marathon
- 1:00:33and then Brett Robinson in the Australian side in the lads.
- 1:00:36And few women. King Ches king Ches yeah, in the
- 1:00:40women like something terrible have to go wrong to have Stefan
- 1:00:45Assan for her not to win. So I'd go for her and then the
- 1:00:51women hem. Do you know it's either Jess or
- 1:00:55Lisa And I'm sort of rooting for Lisa.
- 1:00:59I don't know why. I just the way like she didn't
- 1:01:02make it to the warehouse. I think it was just so good.
- 1:01:05If she wanted the Australian side, it'd be cool.
- 1:01:08What about you, Ron? Well, I'm going to go with the
- 1:01:11fairy tale of Kip Jogi. Obviously that's a bit of a cop
- 1:01:16out, but you are hearing rumours and whispers, I don't know where
- 1:01:20they come from that he's training.
- 1:01:22Well, in fact, I think you do know where they come from.
- 1:01:25Christian from Norway seems to have some connections in Kenya
- 1:01:28where he can get whispers on how Kip Jogi's training.
- 1:01:33But yeah, from all reports, he's going well.
- 1:01:35And similarly to Owen, I'm not too familiar with the other
- 1:01:39athletes there up the top. But that being said, there is
- 1:01:4212345678 athletes sub 205. And like when the hills come
- 1:01:47into it, anyone who can run 2234 potentially, like it almost
- 1:01:53levels the playing field somewhat.
- 1:01:54If you're strong up the hills, you could come into it.
- 1:01:58But yeah, I'm going to go go with Kipchoge.
- 1:02:00And similarly to Owen, I am a big fan of Brett, so I'd really
- 1:02:04like to see him kind of finish as high up as possible in the
- 1:02:08overall leaderboard. Like, I don't know how high he
- 1:02:10can get, but often when there's like so many E Africans on the
- 1:02:14start list, only half of them will make it to the finish line
- 1:02:17anyway. So even though he doesn't
- 1:02:19feature that high up in the rankings in terms of PB, he
- 1:02:22might find themselves somewhere closer to the top than where
- 1:02:25he's listed now. And yeah, I think he's due a
- 1:02:29good one. And he kind of seems like he
- 1:02:31deserves 1. And at the same time, I would
- 1:02:33like to see half two kind of redeem himself from his
- 1:02:38attempted debut in Berlin, where he dropped out around halfway.
- 1:02:42And then he seems to have copped a little bit of stick for that
- 1:02:45along the past few months. And I don't really think it's
- 1:02:48very fair. So.
- 1:02:50And when we did speak to him, actually, in fairness, he was
- 1:02:52like such a lovely guy in that down to earth.
- 1:02:55And he was just as interested in our running as we were
- 1:02:58interested in his. So I think he's got a big future
- 1:03:01in marathon and in distance running, so be good to see him
- 1:03:04go. Well.
- 1:03:05And then for the women, again, not too sure on the some of the
- 1:03:09names on the elite list there, although Bridget Cosguy, I don't
- 1:03:13know, I guess it must be between her and Sufan Hassan.
- 1:03:16Although I'll take the easy Rd. out again and go with Hassan,
- 1:03:21perhaps justifying it by saying Max's connection to her makes me
- 1:03:25want to support her. So we'll go Sufan on the
- 1:03:29overall. And then I think I said
- 1:03:31originally when we spoke about this, I backed Jess.
- 1:03:34So I'll stick with that. She seems like she's been
- 1:03:37putting together some good and sensible training there.
- 1:03:40But I also appreciate Owen's point.
- 1:03:42Like Lisa probably will be running with fire in her belly
- 1:03:46and she's kind of the unknown. So like, I'm so excited to
- 1:03:48follow it. What's Max's connection to her
- 1:03:51son? Or who was Max?
- 1:03:52You know Max Mon? Is it Mon rather than Mahan?
- 1:03:56I think it is, isn't it? Yeah, he he done.
- 1:03:59Maybe it was at least one whilst you were here, Owen, and I think
- 1:04:04I've only done one session with him as well 'cause he was kind
- 1:04:06of injured a little bit whilst we were training.
- 1:04:09But I think he moved over from Sydney and he was working in the
- 1:04:12run centre a little bit. You would have seen him train
- 1:04:15him once or twice. I think he's.
- 1:04:16From second to you, Dean. Yeah, yeah, OK.
- 1:04:19Yeah, yeah. He ran 1410 or something in
- 1:04:22College in the US and whilst he was over there he ended up kind
- 1:04:26of like being a personal training partner slash pacer for
- 1:04:30Saffan Hassan. Like before she kind of blew up
- 1:04:32massively. So I think he's actually going
- 1:04:35over to Sydney and gonna like catch up with her and her coach
- 1:04:38and stuff. Get the inside scoop, give him a
- 1:04:41microphone. Do you know?
- 1:04:43So I think I find it so weird how like she just disappears for
- 1:04:47the last I don't know how long and will now reappear and doubt
- 1:04:51herself so much and just walk the course basically and win it
- 1:04:54easy. Like she's got no publicity
- 1:04:57whatsoever. Like does she train in Ethiopia
- 1:05:01or where? Like no one knows.
- 1:05:03It's crazy. No.
- 1:05:04Is she part of NN? Or if I got like the Orange
- 1:05:07association because of a Dutch background and obviously they
- 1:05:10were orange. Yeah, I don't know, like we
- 1:05:13don't even know that. Like normally you know who runs
- 1:05:15NN? It's it's weird.
- 1:05:19DM what you going for. Men's.
- 1:05:23You can't go for yourself. Long odds Vincent the Getich I
- 1:05:31reckon in the men's so ran 204 flat at Tokyo this year, beat
- 1:05:39Kit Jogi when Kit Jogi was in 205 S, 3rd fastest PV.
- 1:05:45Yeah, it was either him or the guessy I suppose, but I'll go my
- 1:05:50man Vincent for the win and then all But yeah, nothing.
- 1:05:55That's still a fair, fair shout. And then I think correct for the
- 1:06:00Aussie men's, I think he's probably the best, He's the most
- 1:06:04seasoned runner. He's fit.
- 1:06:07Like he has posted all of his work on his latest training on
- 1:06:11Strava and he's just getting fitter and fitter.
- 1:06:13Like I know when he ran 62 minutes in Maragami, I don't
- 1:06:17think he was sort of just kind of you've had a pretty
- 1:06:19interrupted 2025 with like missing out in the Olympics and
- 1:06:24being a bit injured and whatnot. Sorry, 2024.
- 1:06:27So I think he's only getting fitter, and you can see that in
- 1:06:30a lot of his races. Like, I know Gold Coast maybe
- 1:06:32didn't quite go to plan, but I think he's getting fitter all
- 1:06:34the time. I think you mentioned on some of
- 1:06:36his podcasts about even some of the training devices he uses,
- 1:06:39giving him positive feedback around your fitness, which I
- 1:06:41think are not perfect, but directionally helpful.
- 1:06:44So I think he's in shape. And so, yeah, that's my tip for
- 1:06:49the men's. And then I find it very hard to
- 1:06:52go past if on like, yeah, I don't know, even the only thing
- 1:06:57that I think will create some variability.
- 1:06:59And it's the same with like New York or Boston.
- 1:07:02It's so hilly, like Sydney. So for context, like when we ran
- 1:07:05Ballarat Ryan, that was 98 meters of elevation for the 42
- 1:07:10KS. I think they were quite happy to
- 1:07:13report that it was less than 100 meters.
- 1:07:15I'm pretty sure New York's about 2:40 or 2:45 and New York's
- 1:07:19hilly, you know, when it's going like in and out of all the
- 1:07:21boroughs and through Central Park, like it's got hills.
- 1:07:25And then but Sydney I think is like it used to be when I did it
- 1:07:292023, it's like 365. And I think maybe they've
- 1:07:32reduced the elevation to a bit, but like by a bit, but not by a
- 1:07:35lot. So it's like it's the hilliest
- 1:07:37world major. So that must create some form of
- 1:07:41I think maybe you have to check Boston, but I assume it is.
- 1:07:44So I don't know. I just think that creates some
- 1:07:46variability. So I think the weather might be
- 1:07:49better than what it because it's not in like the throes of
- 1:07:53spring, but that might do something.
- 1:07:55But anyway, I'm just hedging my bets there by saying maybe
- 1:07:58something won't happen, but I can't look past Shifan Hassan
- 1:08:01and then I will go Leanne Pompiani for the women's.
- 1:08:05So we've got the try factor in the women's and between us.
- 1:08:10I also thought it's worth mentioning like Sam Clifford,
- 1:08:13like them, not them trying to change my pick, but I'm just
- 1:08:16kind of adding context maybe to some listeners who might not
- 1:08:19have followed so closely. Like he's making his debut.
- 1:08:22So really keen to see how that goes.
- 1:08:25Fraser Darcy being like, naturally a marathon, a mountain
- 1:08:29runner and like, really strong on the hills, like intrigued to
- 1:08:32see how high up he can finish and how much he can use that to
- 1:08:36his strength. And then like, Reese Edwards and
- 1:08:39Tom Dicanto are always there thereabouts as well.
- 1:08:41And Liam Adams, it's seemed like his first marathon in a little
- 1:08:45while. So there's like a million
- 1:08:48different narratives going on at once.
- 1:08:50I think for Sam Clifford, it's going to be so hard.
- 1:08:53Like I think I heard him on the he was on somewhat a podcast and
- 1:08:56I feel like he wasn't that glued into his like nutrition and all
- 1:09:00that sort of stuff. I don't know, I just I think it
- 1:09:02came across like that and like to nail your very first
- 1:09:05marathon, especially being like Sydney and all home crowd, like
- 1:09:10I feel like it's such a big ask for him to like to hit one out
- 1:09:14of the park and like I wouldn't put it past them.
- 1:09:15But if he if just put something like if he actually does run
- 1:09:19like let's say a sub 210 or whatever, like that's
- 1:09:21incredible. Yeah, I know what you mean.
- 1:09:23Like it sounds bad to say it, but perhaps a little bit of
- 1:09:27naivety in there and like your debut and stuff, it does take,
- 1:09:30it's going to take a couple to figure it out.
- 1:09:32And I mean, who knows, maybe you'll get a perfect run and
- 1:09:35everything will align and he has a great one.
- 1:09:38But chances are, in your first marathon, you're going to kind
- 1:09:40of have to figure something out on you.
- 1:09:43Like even have to for example, like he ran so well in Marigami
- 1:09:48you would have put your house in them just like run a super fast
- 1:09:52marathon, but like you're only halfway.
- 1:09:56Like in that when you hit the halfway right?
- 1:09:59Like it's yeah, it's it's a total different animal than the
- 1:10:03half marathon. So it'd be a big ask, but
- 1:10:06hopefully he he does do well. What do you reckon time wise?
- 1:10:09First, Aussie men and women. The men like, what did Brett run
- 1:10:16to when you ran against them, Dean?
- 1:10:18Not far. He was 30 seconds ahead of me.
- 1:10:20We were like 223. It was like 30°.
- 1:10:25What they were? Would they run like to like?
- 1:10:29I don't know. I reckon like 2-12 maybe.
- 1:10:32I can't see anyone the winner. Yeah, I can't.
- 1:10:35Like I think they go what did Tom Dicanto his first Aussie
- 1:10:39last year maybe in like 217. Yeah, like everyone's going to
- 1:10:42be watching Kipchoge and Kipchoge doesn't like Hells
- 1:10:45clearly from Paris. And so like I even think if they
- 1:10:49run let's say 208 like the closest.
- 1:10:53Aussies. The closest Aussies going to be
- 1:10:55like 7 or 8 minutes behind them. Be realistic.
- 1:10:58So yeah, yeah, yeah. You know what though, Like that
- 1:11:01Olympic marathon in Paris, like as almost threw the rule book
- 1:11:05out for me because that was hyped as like hills gonna
- 1:11:09absolutely destroy them and what, they ran like 2-7 or
- 1:11:12something like insane. Didn't they?
- 1:11:14That was insane. And so I did the US cars, didn't
- 1:11:16they? Too, right?
- 1:11:18And and the women was the exact same the next day like they ran
- 1:11:21relatively quick considering the course.
- 1:11:23So I don't know, I'm going to say 210 for Brett or the winner
- 1:11:29of the Australians and for the women like Jess proved, because
- 1:11:32my pick's Jess, she proved herself in Paris to be really
- 1:11:36good and strong over the hills. So I'm going to say a 224.
- 1:11:41No way. I'll go, I'll go 213 to 29.
- 1:11:49You'll think they'll run 213 the women.
- 1:11:52No, sorry. 213 for the fastest Aussie man 220 Yeah. 229 fast
- 1:11:58Aussie lady. Yeah, I think around that like
- 1:12:01no far. Like if they run 225, holy moly.
- 1:12:03Yeah, I don't think, I think yeah, close to 2:30.
- 1:12:07That would break I think the Australian all comers record I
- 1:12:10think, which is from Perth. What's the weather looking like?
- 1:12:13Good question. Because like normally once you
- 1:12:16go uphill, you do have to go downhill.
- 1:12:17So like, yeah, like my 5K on Friday, like there is a big
- 1:12:24uphill, but like there's a lot of downhill.
- 1:12:26So it sort of equals out normally.
- 1:12:28It's that, yeah, it's pretty lovely actually.
- 1:12:29To be honest, the weather looks beautiful, so the the weather
- 1:12:33shouldn't be too much of an issue.
- 1:12:34It's just the just getting over the hills.
- 1:12:36And yes, Paris was 420 meters and they absolutely blitzed it.
- 1:12:40So they 436. So yeah.
- 1:12:43So excited to recap that next week and we'll, we'll also have
- 1:12:47the Perth city to surf, which is on on Sunday as well.
- 1:12:50Like the is it the biggest race in Perth relatively in terms of
- 1:12:55like participants? And stuff.
- 1:12:56Or it used to be, but the HBF run for a reason probably rivals
- 1:13:00it now and so does the Perth Running Festival.
- 1:13:02So, but certainly, yeah, let's say 5 pre COVID, it might it
- 1:13:07probably it would have been. Yeah, one of the major events on
- 1:13:11the calendar still. And for context, like I
- 1:13:14definitely would not have known this prior to coming to
- 1:13:17Australia, what cities to surf means.
- 1:13:19But I mean, if you break it down, doesn't take a genius.
- 1:13:22You run from the city at the start point and it finishes at
- 1:13:27the surf, which is like on the coast at the beach and they have
- 1:13:31them in, I don't know about every city, but most major
- 1:13:34cities across Australia, they have their own version of cities
- 1:13:37to surf. So Perth's one is 12 K and it
- 1:13:41starts up a massive hill straight away I think, doesn't
- 1:13:45it? That can kind of separate the
- 1:13:47men from the boys or the ladies from the girls there straight
- 1:13:50away. I think our man here was
- 1:13:53actually second last year. Yeah, it's like it's in your
- 1:13:57head, like running from the city to the beach.
- 1:13:59Yeah, it's a great idea. But like, logistically, like I
- 1:14:03had to warm up in my race shoes. I had to buy cheap shit in
- 1:14:08freaking Kmart and just like leave them to some like homeless
- 1:14:12man Never enough. He was actually chuffed just to
- 1:14:15warm up in because it was cold. Like I had to bring a banana and
- 1:14:17a bottle of water in my hand to warm up with, Um, because to get
- 1:14:22back into the city, like it's an actual nightmare.
- 1:14:25Um, but yeah, it was like that. Perth 1 is a tough course, it's
- 1:14:28very heavy. Yeah.
- 1:14:29So I think it's about 160 meters, which if we go
- 1:14:33conversion to the marathon, that's 560 meters for a
- 1:14:38marathon. So, yeah, nearly up in Paris.
- 1:14:41So it, yeah, packs a punch, doesn't it?
- 1:14:43There's a lot of hills. Shame we don't have elite start
- 1:14:47lists here or at least like the start list.
- 1:14:49So we could kind of preview that and pick a winner because I know
- 1:14:52for a lot of a lot of our listeners are obviously Perth
- 1:14:55based as well. So they'll be familiar with the
- 1:14:57names. But we'll we'll do it on the
- 1:14:59results roundup next week anyway.
- 1:15:01So next item on the agenda is Connor Mance Boys said I was
- 1:15:06listening to a podcast with him the other day and I think you'll
- 1:15:09find this interesting that he stayed in the alpha ones for a
- 1:15:13while after the the three was released.
- 1:15:16But then he's somewhat recently transitioned to the three now.
- 1:15:20He said he didn't like them at first, but then he's done some
- 1:15:24efficiency testing on on the treadmill in them and they have
- 1:15:28came out better for them than the ones.
- 1:15:30Yeah, I struggle to get my head around that.
- 1:15:32I still like the ones. No, I'm a kind of man's ones are
- 1:15:35pooey. Don't like them, they get me
- 1:15:37blisters. The ones or the tooth?
- 1:15:41I've the ones, I think. Yeah, the ones.
- 1:15:44The five ones. Yeah, don't you dare offend
- 1:15:46Dean's baby like that. I can't believe you're talking
- 1:15:49so poorly about. If you throw me, if you send me
- 1:15:52300 Aussie dollars, I'll ship them up over to you.
- 1:15:56You might be. You might have me.
- 1:16:00I've taught like all this efficiency testing, like I feel
- 1:16:04like unless they're running like the marathon distance in these
- 1:16:08tests, like you don't really know how the shoes going to
- 1:16:11respond after like when you're at 30K, like it might be so bad
- 1:16:15for your form. It might you might bottom it out
- 1:16:17or whatever. I don't know.
- 1:16:18So, yeah, fair enough. It might be good.
- 1:16:20Like in the early stages of a test when your body is so fresh
- 1:16:24and everything is firing. But when it comes to like 30 K,
- 1:16:28yeah, I don't know, Like, I hate all these like super soft shoes.
- 1:16:32And I was listening to Tom Dicano.
- 1:16:34He was on a podcast there and, umm, I really related to it.
- 1:16:38Like he's on about like the rebound.
- 1:16:41So he prefers the Paris ASIC Paris edge or something over the
- 1:16:48new one because he feels that he hits the ground like super hard
- 1:16:54and the foam. He doesn't like base the
- 1:16:56rebound. And I sort of felt that way in
- 1:16:58the alpha fly one. I felt like it was sort of do
- 1:17:01you know when you're on a trampoline and you're jumping
- 1:17:03and you like sort of jump when it's coming up and you go
- 1:17:06nowhere? I feel like it's something like
- 1:17:09that. Umm, look, I'm probably talking
- 1:17:12waffle here now, but yeah, I don't know.
- 1:17:14Yeah, no, no, that's good feedback.
- 1:17:17Yeah, I can totally relate to those feelings.
- 1:17:19Like I think you got to find one that feels because you're
- 1:17:21trading weight and and responsiveness, I think, aren't
- 1:17:24you like with a lot of these shoes, like you want to find the
- 1:17:28lightest weight shoe, but then you want the most responsive
- 1:17:31shoe you can find between that and one that sort of Oh no, for
- 1:17:34me still, I'll fly 1 still feels like I get the most out of any
- 1:17:37shoe. I tried the is it Zirconi?
- 1:17:40What, what, what what do they have?
- 1:17:42Forget the name of that shoe. Endorphin Elise or something
- 1:17:46like that. Did that that that have you
- 1:17:48compressed those? That's yeah, like that that that
- 1:17:52for me feels like I'm about to do a calf because it's just too
- 1:17:54much too soft. But.
- 1:17:57Like you really need to like like some of them like telling
- 1:18:01your mom Ben Felton, the running YouTube, he's got the like the
- 1:18:04royalty of like he literally like gets every shoe for free so
- 1:18:08he can choose whatever 1 he wants.
- 1:18:10But like, it's so hard for let's say the average person because
- 1:18:14the shoes are so expensive and you can only tell so much by
- 1:18:17walking around a shop in them. And the plate, like the drop and
- 1:18:21where the plates are, is all different.
- 1:18:23So depending on how you hit each shoe, very different I think for
- 1:18:26each person. And I feel like the brands
- 1:18:28aren't helping it like the likes of ASIC bringing out them that
- 1:18:32edge in Paris and saying 1 is for like cadence runners and
- 1:18:37others for stride runners. It's just confusing everyone.
- 1:18:40And like they're after bringing out two more shoes like the
- 1:18:41Sonic Blast and the Mega Blast or something like that.
- 1:18:45And it's just like, I don't even know where you'd fit them in the
- 1:18:48rotation. Like there's no need for all
- 1:18:50these shoes. It's.
- 1:18:51Yes, you know, I don't like every time that they drop a new
- 1:18:58pair of super shoes or any shoe for that matter.
- 1:19:01Hindsight's never a thing. So like now when you look back
- 1:19:04on previous iterations of shoes, we'll say like they'll fly to
- 1:19:08was shift and this and that. But at the time when each shoe
- 1:19:11is released, it's always the next best thing because it gets
- 1:19:14marketed to high heaven. It gets given to all the
- 1:19:16influencers for free who will happily come on and say like,
- 1:19:20oh, the shoes amazing. Like I just done my best session
- 1:19:23ever in it. So you're like you sold by at
- 1:19:26the time and then you have to unfortunately go and find out
- 1:19:28that maybe it's not the next best thing.
- 1:19:30And I know they wouldn't be releasing them unless they
- 1:19:32genuinely believe that, but it's a frustrating process to find
- 1:19:35out. Expensive.
- 1:19:37But yeah, anyway, the next item agenda is New York City elite
- 1:19:42fields were released during the week.
- 1:19:44I think it was so under women's. It seems like they have a
- 1:19:48similar lineup every year in that Sharon Lucchetti and Helen
- 1:19:52O'berry go head to head here. When is New York?
- 1:19:55I think it's in November, so we got Sydney, Berlin, Chicago, New
- 1:20:00York. So September is worlds, so then
- 1:20:04October, so it's in November, you said?
- 1:20:06November. Thank you Do.
- 1:20:07You like that it's not much time for, let's say, like, I know
- 1:20:10Fenella McCormick, she's named there like she's doing the
- 1:20:13world's. And then to back up to do New
- 1:20:15York. It's a lot to ask, yeah.
- 1:20:17Then there's there's a lot of American as you would expect
- 1:20:20women on here. So you've got got Emily Sisson,
- 1:20:22Sarah Hall, Molly Sydell and then Alish Mccolgan's in there
- 1:20:27as well. Jess Warner George is making her
- 1:20:29debut. So it seems like there's a
- 1:20:32really strong race on the women's side.
- 1:20:33And then for the men you've got all sorts.
- 1:20:36The headliner being Munyao, who's won London Benson Caputo
- 1:20:412O2 Evans Chibet 2O3 Flat Abdeen, a gay European record
- 1:20:46holder 2O four Pat Tienen, Australian who's based in
- 1:20:50America. He seems just to like in terms
- 1:20:53of the Australian scene domestically, like the so
- 1:20:55accessible and we know what they're all doing.
- 1:20:57We know what the coaching setups are about.
- 1:21:00Pat in and I mean, obviously he went to college over there and
- 1:21:03he's just kind of integrated his life over there and he just does
- 1:21:06his own thing. So fair play to him, but you
- 1:21:09don't really hear that much from him.
- 1:21:11That Puma group in general, it's very hush hush.
- 1:21:15And then there's a few exciting debutant here as well, Hilary
- 1:21:18Bohr, Paddy Diva and Charles Hicks.
- 1:21:21I was going to say both British, but I'm not sure if Charles
- 1:21:24Hicks has changed his allegiance to American by now.
- 1:21:26And then Joe Clecker, the American 10,000 meter guy is
- 1:21:30making his debut. So a couple of ones to watch.
- 1:21:33There's also Johnny Mellor, who's actually born and raised
- 1:21:37where I am in the world. 209 guy is in there.
- 1:21:40So marathon season is upon us, guys.
- 1:21:43It's exciting. I love the idea like like you
- 1:21:46look at them fields and you're like, Oh my God, can't wait to
- 1:21:48watch it. And then you actually sit down
- 1:21:49to watch it and for like the first hour, for like first hour
- 1:21:52and 45 minutes, you're like, I'm after wasting this time, I'll
- 1:21:56never get a bike. The worst part for us watching
- 1:21:59most of these is you fall asleep in the first hour because
- 1:22:02they're on that night. Yeah, but that's good.
- 1:22:05I realized before I skipped past training weeks for you both, so
- 1:22:09I guess we should do that now. Only if you want to indulge just
- 1:22:12right. Well come on, use stars of the
- 1:22:16show in terms of easy double talent.
- 1:22:18So I need to upsell you, don't I?
- 1:22:21I'm barely holding on. Same.
- 1:22:24I'm on the. Wind, then I'm falling apart.
- 1:22:27I'll start off. So we can make it a quick one,
- 1:22:30yeah. I really haven't done much this
- 1:22:33week. Monday I done so I was coming
- 1:22:36off the race, so Monday I just done 45 easy with a few sprints.
- 1:22:42Tuesday I done 2 by 10 minutes at LT1 and then finished off
- 1:22:49with 12 by 1 minutes off 32nd float and again I didn't bother
- 1:22:54doing any lactates, just pure feel but I felt like the body
- 1:22:58was sort of coming back after the race.
- 1:23:00Wednesday, 75 minutes in the morning and this is when I was
- 1:23:05jogging and I drive on all these like back country roads that
- 1:23:10they're not that busy, but a van drove by me.
- 1:23:14And I have this irrational fear of when I'm running that when a
- 1:23:18car drives BA past like a stone is going to flick up and like
- 1:23:21chip my tooth. I don't know why.
- 1:23:23It's like every time I like car drives by, I like, I like clench
- 1:23:26my mouth, but doesn't a van drive by and a stone absolutely
- 1:23:29nails my shin. So yeah, like it wasn't sore.
- 1:23:33I was just like what the hell? So yeah, that evening done
- 1:23:37circuits Thursday done just 90 minutes, chilling easy.
- 1:23:42And then that evening I done a heavyweight session Friday,
- 1:23:46rest. Yesterday I had like my sort of
- 1:23:49fast session of the week. So it was 3 by a mile and then I
- 1:23:53had they were off 2 minutes 30 seconds and then I had 4 by 200
- 1:23:58meters after. What were the miles in?
- 1:24:00Yeah, so it was a blow up. So the first one was in 60
- 1:24:07sevens, so I think it was like 430 or something like that.
- 1:24:11But on the last lap I could feel like that sort of lactate
- 1:24:14building up on my arms. That's that for me is it Like I
- 1:24:18don't often. I know that feeling, but it's
- 1:24:21not often. I I know I'm pushed when I feel
- 1:24:25that, you know, and it's normally light in a workout.
- 1:24:28So if you're feeling that after your first Rep, yeah.
- 1:24:31That. Trouble.
- 1:24:32Yeah, you're swimming. You're swimming in lactate.
- 1:24:34But like it felt all right, like it didn't feel too hard, but I
- 1:24:38just knew that like another two reps of this is going to be
- 1:24:41hard. So yeah, started the second Rep,
- 1:24:44I hit like a 67 and I was like OK, so then I got like 686970 or
- 1:24:51something like that. And then the last Rep I was sort
- 1:24:54of just hanging on. But you know, like, so that's
- 1:24:56like 823 K pace, right? Yeah.
- 1:24:59That's your PB. That's PB 3K pace you've just
- 1:25:03run for the first mile. Yeah, so I knew it was a big
- 1:25:07ask. So that and like, well, I've
- 1:25:10found it off the second one. It was like, oh, I think I got
- 1:25:13697071 and then 69 but M like it was just painful and like yeah,
- 1:25:19I don't know, I was just tired and you know, I didn't really
- 1:25:22have that willingness to like hurt myself if you get me to
- 1:25:26like dig deep. I just didn't have it in me and
- 1:25:29like I done to 200 stand in like 29302920 or something like that.
- 1:25:35But umm, like at the end of the session you're like, oh, it was
- 1:25:39a shit session. Like I didn't hit the splits.
- 1:25:41You're sort of like annoyed at yourself.
- 1:25:43But I was on the phone to my coach after and he was like,
- 1:25:45look, Owen, like it was an alright session.
- 1:25:48And realistically I would have given you a break after the 5K
- 1:25:53and it's only for like my like local club 5K.
- 1:25:56And it's like, good to do that for your club.
- 1:25:58But yeah, like I've done a lot to get myself like back into
- 1:26:03this shape and like a relatively short space of time.
- 1:26:05Like I think I just need a break.
- 1:26:07So like come next Friday, like I'll take seven days off.
- 1:26:10Well, I like, I'll run like every second day or something
- 1:26:12like that. Just a 30 minute jog.
- 1:26:14Yeah. So was this like a priming
- 1:26:15session ahead of the 5K? Was that the purpose of it so?
- 1:26:19It was like my last hit out. Yeah.
- 1:26:21So like you needed to do something at ideally at or above
- 1:26:25race intensity to sort of get familiar with what you're about
- 1:26:29to do, right. So it's sort of like great
- 1:26:31training and that intensity like 67 seconds compared to like
- 1:26:36that, which is almost like all out three K peso that's pretty
- 1:26:39quality. So even if you're one or two
- 1:26:41seconds above that, that's still moving, but hard to
- 1:26:44contextualize given you're it's not the national 5K next week.
- 1:26:48So like, how do you go all in when you're very hard to get
- 1:26:52your head around that really when you've just had nationals
- 1:26:55and you've just had the excitement of that, Like it's
- 1:26:57sort of a bit of a strange buzz. Yeah.
- 1:27:00And like, it's hard like, to do that session by yourself, like
- 1:27:03to like push them 67 laps and like, yeah, I think I'm just
- 1:27:07mentally tired as well. So I'm sort of looking forward
- 1:27:10to like a total deload and like just not thinking about running
- 1:27:14at all for like a little while. Yeah.
- 1:27:16But yeah, like 100. Then this morning I done M60
- 1:27:19minutes with like a 15 minute pickup at the end and the pickup
- 1:27:24I think I was between like 350 and like 320 and like a daily
- 1:27:28training shoe like and I felt good.
- 1:27:30It's just I, I really struggle with anything past like I can
- 1:27:34hit a 400 in like a 6065 whatever and I feel good.
- 1:27:39It's just after that, like it's 800 reps I just hate 800 reps I
- 1:27:45just cannot do them. And I just, I'm really bad at
- 1:27:48like like in my head I'm really bad at like tolerating the
- 1:27:50lactate. Like I can't get rid of it or I,
- 1:27:53I don't know. But like, yeah, you have them
- 1:27:55sessions and still 112 kilometers for the week.
- 1:27:57So yeah, I'm all right. I'll get over it.
- 1:28:00Had you? Had bicarb prior to that.
- 1:28:02No, I don't. And that's another thing in my
- 1:28:05back, my head, I'm like, am I becoming too like for the races?
- 1:28:08I take it like, is my body like needing that bicarbonate to sort
- 1:28:11of like help deal with the build up of yeah, sometimes you just
- 1:28:15think too much into this sort of stuff and I don't know.
- 1:28:18Even in any case, you probably are better off doing as you say
- 1:28:21in there and like just and bearing through the sessions if
- 1:28:24you run a couple of seconds slower pair lap rather than
- 1:28:28getting too accustomed and happened to have bicarb like
- 1:28:31mentally if not physically to do a track session.
- 1:28:34Like, you don't really want to go down that road, do you?
- 1:28:37No, like, like it wasn't the best session, but it wasn't like
- 1:28:39the worst session either. Like it's not the end of the
- 1:28:41world. So look, just get me to next
- 1:28:43Friday. My week I was sort of like
- 1:28:47coming off the back of some pain in that pubic area.
- 1:28:50So like what's it called like like a sports hernia and some
- 1:28:55sort of like pubic synthesis pain.
- 1:28:57So I was sort of thinking that I'd end up just be jogging
- 1:29:02rather than doing workouts. So Monday I ran to work, then
- 1:29:06ran from work to on the gym on the way home.
- 1:29:10So just did a gym workout, like a 40 minute gym routine on my
- 1:29:14way home which was good. Tuesday just jogging in the I
- 1:29:21went for a jog in the morning and then on the treadmill.
- 1:29:24It was quite wet so I avoided the wet weather set indoors.
- 1:29:29What treadmill do you have? A pre call or something?
- 1:29:33There's a guy over in Melbourne who refurbs like fairly decent
- 1:29:38spec, like gym treadmills, like older gym treadmills and he like
- 1:29:43he ships it over and you have to put it together.
- 1:29:46But like it's quite, it goes up to like 25 KS an hour, goes up
- 1:29:50however many percent, goes down 3% like it does all it needs to
- 1:29:53and it's pretty sturdy. What motor is in it?
- 1:29:55Well, if it goes up 25 kilometers an hour, there's a
- 1:29:57pretty big motor in it because that's no, I swear, because you
- 1:30:03can lad, I've this is what my life is now.
- 1:30:05I like looking into treadmills and you can get them that are
- 1:30:07like 2.5 horsepower or three or like 4.5.
- 1:30:13And realistically you want a strong MO or like a lot of the
- 1:30:18treadmills just go to like 20 kilometers an hour, which is
- 1:30:20like 3 minute kilometer pace, I think.
- 1:30:22And so if you want to do ever like like I'm hoping I get to
- 1:30:25the stage where that feels like somewhat A relatively nice pace,
- 1:30:29but umm, so I sort of want to get one that can go faster.
- 1:30:32But when you want to go faster, you need a stronger motor to
- 1:30:35like deal with like the force you're putting through it and
- 1:30:38all. And obviously with that
- 1:30:40increases the price. So I'm Hemming and harm between
- 1:30:43like sort of taking out a loan and like buying a relatively
- 1:30:47decent treadmill that will do me or like going for like a second
- 1:30:50hand one that has like sort of a large enough motor in it.
- 1:30:54It's yeah, there's a lot more to which I didn't realize that.
- 1:30:56Yeah, the one I've got like is like had done like a heap of
- 1:31:00case in a gym Once Upon a time, but the actual quality of it,
- 1:31:04like it's able to go fast enough, which is what I wanted.
- 1:31:07Like I didn't want something that I can't do top speed work
- 1:31:10or strides and stuff in. So yeah, I'd go down that path
- 1:31:14of trying to find a good second hand one that has all the that's
- 1:31:17fast enough and not but yeah, in the afternoon.
- 1:31:21So jogging the treadmill in the morning on Tuesday and then I
- 1:31:24just did an hour steady. So sort of 350 to 355 pace.
- 1:31:32I'm sort of not getting much pain in that sort of like where
- 1:31:37the light sight of the original injury is, but I'm just sort of
- 1:31:40getting a bit of general pubic pain.
- 1:31:41So just trying to moderate what I'm doing with my steady runs.
- 1:31:45But I've sort of given the old clear by physio to at least just
- 1:31:48jogging steady runs for the week.
- 1:31:50Wednesday, just one easier run and physio Thursday too easy,
- 1:31:59Sorry, easy run to the office. And then I ran to the workout
- 1:32:03and then just did AI wanted to do 3 laps around Lake Mungo.
- 1:32:06Like when the guys there's a couple of guys doing a steady
- 1:32:08run, but it was just sort of the pain was sort of getting a
- 1:32:11little bit higher and I just didn't want to.
- 1:32:13I didn't want to re get I'm not sort of backing off, not doing
- 1:32:16workouts and I'm not getting any better.
- 1:32:17So I just did a couple of laps steady 345 pace and just called
- 1:32:23it there before this sort of started to get sore again.
- 1:32:26And then Friday, just a couple of easy jogs till from the
- 1:32:29office. Saturday jogged down and did
- 1:32:31another steady run, just another steady hour, 4 minute pace just
- 1:32:36with a mate. And then this morning got up and
- 1:32:38did 2 1/2 hours easy, so 145 or 146 KS for the week.
- 1:32:46Just mainly jogging and a bit of steady running in amongst that.
- 1:32:50I feel like the pain's trending down, which is good.
- 1:32:52So hoping that in another week or so this sort of settled down
- 1:32:56enough so I can just get back into proper training.
- 1:32:58And you're 2 hours thirsty this morning.
- 1:33:00Like it kind of feels somewhat OK rather than like you being
- 1:33:04majorly concerned like you were on Thursday.
- 1:33:07Yeah, sort of like I could feel, I just feel a bit of general
- 1:33:10like tightness in my like pelvic like pelvis area, but not not
- 1:33:16that same acute pain that I was having in that where the sort of
- 1:33:20initial injury was. I feel like I'm just angered the
- 1:33:23area. So it's a little bit sensitive,
- 1:33:25but like it's like much duller pain than what it was.
- 1:33:28So it's definitely getting better.
- 1:33:30Be nice if I didn't have any discomfort at all.
- 1:33:33But I'm hoping it will settle, continue settling down.
- 1:33:36Yeah, that's good. Well, my training comments are
- 1:33:39on the back of last week's 220 kilometre cycle.
- 1:33:43I was chasing that target and we've got 290 kilometres this
- 1:33:47week. Hey, Jake.
- 1:33:51Just about yeah. But that's been good fun and no
- 1:33:55real update besides that. And guys, this these episodes
- 1:33:59are getting longer and the finishing times getting later.
- 1:34:02So I think we'll we'll wrap it up because usually Diaries were
- 1:34:06somewhat covered off. Just quick shout out to Jake
- 1:34:10Smith who had the interview. He done his 5K there last night.
- 1:34:16When was a Friday, Saturday, yesterday and he ran at 1343,
- 1:34:21which is very, very, very close to it is like his old PB, let's
- 1:34:25say. So yeah, it'd be interesting to
- 1:34:27see how he goes later on in the year.
- 1:34:28Yeah, 5 seconds off he was. So that's a great run.
- 1:34:32Nevertheless. I know he'd naturally be
- 1:34:35somewhat disappointed because he thought maybe he was in PB
- 1:34:38shape, but I mean, 5 seconds is neither here nor there.
- 1:34:41When you contextualize it, he pretty much is in PB shape.
- 1:34:44So exciting to see him back to it.
- 1:34:46And what did he say? He's sort of 13 kilo is
- 1:34:48different to when he sort of ran some of those PBS to where he is
- 1:34:51now. Is that right?
- 1:34:53That's obscene, isn't it? Yeah, so it sort of goes to show
- 1:34:56like when you get weight obsessed that it's not like
- 1:34:59there's much more. You can be very unhealthy and
- 1:35:01very lean, but it's not necessarily going to produce,
- 1:35:04you know, your best running performances.
- 1:35:06Like he like he's saying he's like, I'm at a sustainable
- 1:35:08weight. I'm like stronger than ever.
- 1:35:10And now I'm able to do training that I could.
- 1:35:13I like he's like, what did I could run for like 5 or 6 weeks
- 1:35:16and get injured and now he's like I'm going to he's like I
- 1:35:18can keep stacking stuff up. So I don't know.
- 1:35:21Very very inspiring story and very like good example for
- 1:35:25people to like do running the right way.
- 1:35:29Yeah. And like what I got from that
- 1:35:31was like a fair enough lighter could mean faster, but you want
- 1:35:36to be in the sport like longer if you get me, for like
- 1:35:39longevity, like fair enough. You might get light and you
- 1:35:42might run a really fast time once, but it's like the
- 1:35:45accumulation of training overtime.
- 1:35:47So you're better off being healthy and like stacking the
- 1:35:50training, you'll see more benefits really.
- 1:35:53Yeah, it's actually really nice. To be fair, there's been a lot
- 1:35:55of comments on that interview as well.
- 1:35:58Like, I don't know if maybe people would just find out
- 1:36:01Jake's story, but they're very impressed with kind of like his
- 1:36:03attitude and stuff. So I'm glad we've been able to
- 1:36:06bring that to the surface. And again, yeah, I appreciate
- 1:36:09Jake's time giving it up to us, trusting us to actually have a
- 1:36:13chat with them. All right then just a reminder,
- 1:36:15Thanks everyone for your uptake in the in the clubhouse.
- 1:36:18Have seen that people have been popping in already as we've been
- 1:36:21recording this, there's some chat going on in there and I
- 1:36:25don't want to speak too soon, but I'm hopeful that we'll,
- 1:36:28we'll, we'll have the next interview announcements going on
- 1:36:31in there this week. So that will come to the
- 1:36:34Clubhouse 1st. And we've got the verbal
- 1:36:37confirmation via e-mail, but I don't want to say it until we've
- 1:36:41got like the date and stuff locked in.
- 1:36:43But let's just say we've all been getting quite giddy around
- 1:36:47the prospect of this one. So Clubhouse listeners will hit
- 1:36:50care about that clubhouse members rather.
- 1:36:53And lastly, I don't know exactly what it does, but it does
- 1:36:57something for our visibility or credibility.
- 1:37:00So like, if you've enjoyed the the content of the pod, then
- 1:37:03just quickly before you press pause and swipe up on your app
- 1:37:07gives a five star rating. Please please.
- 1:37:10Please. And equally, just going back to
- 1:37:15the clubhouse, like if you have your double troubles, you have
- 1:37:17your opinions on YouTube Diaries, like get them in there.
- 1:37:20This isn't a platform for us to speak to each other.
- 1:37:24Like, let's just get it going. It's a safe space to voice your
- 1:37:27opinion. Yeah, the just make sure you
- 1:37:31read those T's and C's before you sign up because we've
- 1:37:35distanced ourselves from all liability from what you might
- 1:37:38say. Is there tase and saves?
- 1:37:44You haven't even read them. Yeah, we've covered ourselves.
- 1:37:47Oh brilliant, that's changes. I read Owen's Phase and Space.
- 1:37:56All right, guys. Thanks for another one I'll.
- 1:37:58See you next week guys. Ciao you mate.
