- 0:39SPEAKER_01: Welcome in, everybody, to the Talk and Tech Podcast, powered by the Nation, Part of the Nation Podcast Network.
- 0:44SPEAKER_01: I'm your host, Steven Rodriguez, my co-host Tristan McGonagall.
- 0:48SPEAKER_01: Tristan, we're 0-2, and I hate this.
- 0:51SPEAKER_02: I I love how low energy you came into this episode with.
- 0:54SPEAKER_02: It's usually, hey everybody, it's a talk and tech podcast.
- 0:58SPEAKER_02: But that's like, okay, welcome in to MPR here on PBS.
- 1:02SPEAKER_02: It's we're brought to you by listeners like you.
- 1:07SPEAKER_02: I wish another bombing in a foreign country.
- 1:10SPEAKER_01: I I I wish I was high energy.
- 1:13SPEAKER_01: But he I gave this, I gave an analogy last week about getting socks for Christmas.
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna give another one this week.
- 1:20SPEAKER_01: So we're 0-2, we're sitting here, loss against Oregon and Wyoming.
- 1:26SPEAKER_01: We get a great five-star recruit that we are gonna talk about a little later in the episode.
- 1:31SPEAKER_01: But this is like um it's like getting kicked in the nuts twice and then being given a thousand dollars.
- 1:38SPEAKER_01: It's like awesome, I just got a thousand dollars.
- 1:42SPEAKER_01: But give me a second, but it still hurts.
- 1:46SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna need a moment before I actually react to this uh$1,000 you're giving me.
- 1:52SPEAKER_02: What an analogy, Steven.
- 1:53SPEAKER_02: That that's what what masterful analogy your uh crafts craftsmanship you got there, sir.
- 1:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm gonna try to give one for every episode.
- 2:01SPEAKER_01: This is it's like everything still hurts from the previous two losses, and I still feel bad, but I we did just get the best recruit in Texas Tech history, and I'm feeling pretty good about that.
- 2:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I guess I guess the way I would kind of dig deeper into this new lore you've created for the podcast with getting kicked in your nuts.
- 2:20SPEAKER_02: Um, is so this is how I would probably describe those being kicked to the nuts.
- 2:24SPEAKER_02: It's a guy's like about to take a swing at your nuts, and he like stops right before he does it, looks at you, smiles, and you both think, okay, maybe this isn't actually gonna happen, and then he slams your nuts right right then and there, twice, and you fall for it twice.
- 2:39SPEAKER_02: So you get you pull a George Bush, uh fool me once, fool me twice sort of situation.
- 2:44SPEAKER_02: And here you are with hurt nuts, but thankfully a thousand dollars apparently, which would help me get over my nuts pretty quick, though.
- 2:50SPEAKER_01: It would like you can do a lot with a thousand bucks, you you know, help with some bills, you go buy your wife something nice, you can buy yourself something nice, but it's it still hurts.
- 2:57SPEAKER_02: You're still hurting exactly, so yeah.
- 3:00SPEAKER_01: So let's talk about the thousand dollars of this analogy first, so we can start off with some positivity here.
- 3:06SPEAKER_01: Micah Hudson finally commits to play at Texas Tech.
- 3:11SPEAKER_01: This has been in the works for over two years at this point, according to the Sam Conn article on the Athletic.
- 3:18SPEAKER_01: Um, Brian Nance has been the guy behind Micah Hudson to Texas Tech ever since he was at Baylor and now at Texas Tech.
- 3:28SPEAKER_01: He's the best recruit in Texas Tech history.
- 3:31SPEAKER_01: He is a true five-star.
- 3:32SPEAKER_01: He is a top 10 player in the country.
- 3:36SPEAKER_01: Player, not by position, a top 10 player in the country, according to multiple recruiting websites.
- 3:44SPEAKER_01: This is huge.
- 3:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, um, I think what's so really great about this before like we really dig into what this really means is that you know, this is exactly why we hired Joey Maguire.
- 3:56SPEAKER_02: I I know the results right now are really frustrating, and it could be really easy to kind of go into a doomer mode and say, like, okay, maybe this guy isn't the hero we really, really thought he was.
- 4:07SPEAKER_02: Because obviously, at the end of the day, what you want most is wins on the board more than anything else.
- 4:11SPEAKER_02: And those aren't coming right now.
- 4:12SPEAKER_02: But whenever this happens, it kind of I sent this text to you, my brother, that it reminds you that this is a process, this is a rebuild, or you he's been laying the foundation here for a while, and now he's starting to add some luxuries to this new home he's building.
- 4:27SPEAKER_02: And you're really gonna start seeing the the the results here as the years go on.
- 4:33SPEAKER_02: Like, I think we were a little naive to think that Texas Tech was gonna be able to get right up on its feet and run run with the big boys immediately.
- 4:40SPEAKER_02: And I think we got a little ahead of ourselves, I think we tripped over ourselves a bit.
- 4:43SPEAKER_02: It but this is truly the process working, okay?
- 4:46SPEAKER_02: As they say in Morgantown, trust the climb.
- 4:49SPEAKER_02: We need to be trying, we need to be climb trusters.
- 4:51SPEAKER_02: I know they're not trusting any climbs over there right now, but I right now it's time to trust the climb in Lubbock, even though I'm there not a lot of hills, but no, in in our hearts and minds.
- 5:02SPEAKER_01: No, uh, we are way above sea level, though.
- 5:05SPEAKER_01: So we're already starting in a pretty good spot.
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: Highest in the Big 12.
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: Um, not gonna bring up the school that's higher because they beat us earlier in the season.
- 5:12SPEAKER_01: Oh, and BYU, I guess, is higher now.
- 5:14SPEAKER_02: Whatever.
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: No, whatever.
- 5:16SPEAKER_01: Texas Tech now has the number one recruiting class in the Big 12 for 2024.
- 5:21SPEAKER_01: Um, number 23 in the nation at this point.
- 5:26SPEAKER_01: Yes, everything you said is true.
- 5:28SPEAKER_01: We have to trust the process.
- 5:30SPEAKER_01: The off-season hype is what's killing us right now, and it's we succumbed to it.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: A lot of tech fans succumb to it.
- 5:36SPEAKER_01: We're thinking 10 wins, potential playoff.
- 5:39SPEAKER_01: I don't know, maybe an NY six bowl, Big 12 trophy.
- 5:43SPEAKER_01: And guess what?
- 5:44SPEAKER_01: That could still happen.
- 5:46SPEAKER_01: It can technically can.
- 5:48SPEAKER_01: It can technically happen.
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: We played a really good game against Oregon.
- 5:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we lost, yeah, we made some huge mistakes.
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: We're gonna talk about all that, but this is a process, and it's not just gonna be a two-year thing that we're gonna be playoff contenders for Texas Tech.
- 6:04SPEAKER_01: So back to Micah Hudson, six foot, 190 pounds.
- 6:08SPEAKER_01: Those stats don't absolutely jump out to you, or the measurables, I should say.
- 6:12SPEAKER_01: But this guy is for real.
- 6:15SPEAKER_01: Like, he's gonna play as a true freshman, he is insane.
- 6:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he's he's an immediate day one starter, and that would be the case anywhere he went in the country.
- 6:24SPEAKER_02: I mean, you'd have to have some serious, freakish wide receiver talent for him not to start because he is that he is that special.
- 6:30SPEAKER_02: There's a reason why every notable program in this entire country wanted him.
- 6:35SPEAKER_02: And man, did we get really lucky having the right guys and the right at the right time to really build the relationships, which he's been harping on over and over again.
- 6:43SPEAKER_02: The Michael Hubs, Micah Hudson keeps saying that it's all about the relationship he was able to build with the Texas Tech staff.
- 6:48SPEAKER_02: And I uh embarrassingly only recently found out that he's in he's actually a legacy.
- 6:53SPEAKER_02: Uh, his father played football at Texas Tech, which obviously never hurts your chances at landing a kid, you know.
- 6:58SPEAKER_02: You always want to kind of keep it in the family, and it's just what a masterful stroke to get a kid that is the real deal, like you said.
- 7:06SPEAKER_02: This kid is the show.
- 7:07SPEAKER_02: Um, he's actually a local prospect.
- 7:09SPEAKER_02: I live in Temple.
- 7:10SPEAKER_02: He's he's he's here in Temple, and um he is he he's the talk of the town, dude.
- 7:14SPEAKER_02: Everyone's always anytime you bring up the the words Lake Belton, players like Micah Hudson are being brought up right now, and how this is like the new place to be when it comes to recruits.
- 7:23SPEAKER_01: Offers from not only the top programs in Texas, uh, but LSU, Alabama, Ole Miss, Georgia, Georgia.
- 7:31SPEAKER_01: I mean, all the big ones.
- 7:33SPEAKER_01: I don't know why I threw Ole Miss in there, but yes, um all the big ones.
- 7:38SPEAKER_01: Every every Ohio State, every single large program in the country wanted this guy.
- 7:44SPEAKER_01: And that's usually they usually get this guy being a top 10 recruit in the nation.
- 7:50SPEAKER_01: So you now not only have two of the top 10 best recruits ever committed to Texas Tech with this 2024 class, not only Micah Hudson being number one, but Cheetah O'Feely is number nine right now, according to 247 of your all-time recruits.
- 8:07SPEAKER_01: He's the ninth best recruit you've ever had.
- 8:09SPEAKER_01: You have two of these guys in the same class right now.
- 8:11SPEAKER_01: That's not even mentioning Will Hammond, who has been rising up boards and more star now, getting his name out there like no other, being invited to Elite 11.
- 8:21SPEAKER_01: This class, and I this isn't hyperbole here.
- 8:25SPEAKER_01: This class has the potential to be your best in Texas Tech history.
- 8:30SPEAKER_02: That's what's really shaping up to be.
- 8:31SPEAKER_02: Um, I'm interested to see.
- 8:33SPEAKER_02: I know you brought the stats, I know you brought the uh the the history lesson for us, but um, this this really seems like it has the prospects of being the best class in school history.
- 8:43SPEAKER_02: I mean, having the first five-star ever is already a huge notch in the belt.
- 8:48SPEAKER_02: So it shows that this recruiting staff knows what they're doing.
- 8:51SPEAKER_02: And yes, yes, the things are going your way, but you had everybody gunning for this kid.
- 8:55SPEAKER_02: You said he was top 10 in the top in the in the freaking country.
- 8:58SPEAKER_02: These are not kids that tech gets.
- 9:00SPEAKER_02: And here we are getting this and getting uh getting him locked in.
- 9:04SPEAKER_02: Uh, and it seems like he's way in.
- 9:05SPEAKER_02: Like, I know obviously there's gonna be a lot of jokes of saying, Oh, we yeah, we have to wait till signing day.
- 9:09SPEAKER_02: And while that's true, he is out there puffing his chest, like on social media and stuff.
- 9:14SPEAKER_02: He is he is getting into the into the replies saying, like, you know, talking his mess that he were here and there.
- 9:19SPEAKER_02: So I really appreciate that.
- 9:21SPEAKER_02: Um, but I it I I think this is just a great indication of what's to come because not only to get the five-star kid, now you start getting other high-ranking kids that are in Texas Tech Sphere maybe taking another glance at what's happening in Loving.
- 9:35SPEAKER_02: So it's just it's kind of this is all about momentum, and this is a great way to get you off the starting line into really getting into these deeper pockets of recruits.
- 9:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I think the difference with some of what's happened with Texas Tech recruiting, getting some great players and then them deciding to switch and sign with a bigger program.
- 9:52SPEAKER_01: That's happened when Texas Tech has signed guys that are fairly unknown, and then all of a sudden they get an offer from Texas Tech, they may commit to Texas Tech verbally, and then all of a sudden, here comes the big schools coming to poach.
- 10:05SPEAKER_01: Now the big schools have been in his ear, they've been recruiting Micah Hudson for a while now, and you still won.
- 10:14SPEAKER_01: So that's what leads me to believe he's gonna come December sign with Texas Tech.
- 10:19SPEAKER_01: Uh, obviously, we don't know until it's on the dotted line, but um, I I did you mentioned I did go through at least the last 20 years of recruiting classes for Texas Tech.
- 10:30SPEAKER_01: Um 2004, probably your best one in the last 20 years.
- 10:34SPEAKER_01: Graham Harrell, Danny Amendola, Darcell McBath, Dwayne Slay, Shannon Woods, a lot of great red raiders in that one.
- 10:41SPEAKER_01: Uh 06 had Crabtree, Baron Batch, uh 09 had Kerry Hyder, Ladrian Waddle, Eric Ward, a couple NFL players there.
- 10:50SPEAKER_01: 2011, Jaqueem Grant, Jay Samaro, LaRaven Clark, DeAndre Washington, Bradley Marquez, all in the same class.
- 10:57SPEAKER_01: That's that's nice.
- 10:59SPEAKER_01: 2014, Mahomes, little known guy for the Kansas City Chiefs.
- 11:04SPEAKER_01: Dakota Allen, Joshawn Johnson, Cam Batson, Ian Sadler, some really good, effective offensive players.
- 11:09SPEAKER_01: Obviously, not a lot of defense, even though you had Dakota Allen, Shashawn Johnson.
- 11:13SPEAKER_01: There wasn't much else.
- 11:15SPEAKER_01: Um, 2017, you had Jack Anderson, Rico Jeffers, Dawson Deaton, Adrian Fry.
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: Adrian Fry was class of 2017.
- 11:23SPEAKER_01: He just stopped playing at Texas Tech last year.
- 11:25SPEAKER_01: So just thought that was interesting.
- 11:27SPEAKER_01: 2018, you had Jalen Hutchings, you had Sir Roderick, you had Eric Ezukama, you had Trey Wolf.
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: That was four really good red raiders right there.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: And then this is too far, you know, too far to know.
- 11:39SPEAKER_01: But 2021, you're looking at Baron Morton, you're looking at Jaron Bradley, Mason Thorp, Cameron Valdez, Josiah Pierre.
- 11:46SPEAKER_01: You also got Colin Schooler in the transfer class that year.
- 11:49SPEAKER_01: You got Malik Dunlap, Muddy Waters, Ray Shad Williams.
- 11:53SPEAKER_01: Those are those are a lot of starters for you in that 2021 class right now.
- 11:57SPEAKER_01: That was a Matt Wells class.
- 11:58SPEAKER_01: That was a Matt Wells class that here I was talking about.
- 12:02SPEAKER_01: That Joey kept, I will say.
- 12:03SPEAKER_01: That Joey kept.
- 12:05SPEAKER_02: We never denied Matt Wells' ability to get guys out of the transfer portal.
- 12:09SPEAKER_02: And he, but I mean, he got some boys out of high school as well.
- 12:12SPEAKER_02: Um, Baron Morton's kind of like a uh um a bit like a Micah Hudson situation where he sits there very close to Texas Tech to begin with, so you kind of get a an edge up.
- 12:22SPEAKER_02: But um still that all the credit to the the the past coaches.
- 12:25SPEAKER_02: I just wish we were able to put the whole package together that I'm hoping that this staff is capable of doing.
- 12:31SPEAKER_02: Um, and I'm sure whenever we start looking at the whenever this class finally gets the pin to the paper, I'm sure in about five years when we're having the same conversation, I I don't know if it's a hot take that say that I'll be the great the greatest class in Texas Tech history.
- 12:45SPEAKER_02: Um, with NFL talent and primarily maybe what they do record-wise, because I think we're really ready to start seeing some some winning seasons.
- 12:54SPEAKER_02: I hot take.
- 12:55SPEAKER_02: Um, and I'm really hoping that these guys will be the kind of flag bearers to kind of turn that corner because it's been a well over a decade.
- 13:00SPEAKER_02: So hopefully we'll be able to say that in about five, six years.
- 13:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they'll have a brand new practice facility, they'll have a whole brand new end zone for them with all this crazy new stuff.
- 13:11SPEAKER_01: Um, there's a lot to look forward to still with Texas Tech Football, despite the not so ideal start to the season.
- 13:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 13:20SPEAKER_02: Um, what is do you have any any other thoughts?
- 13:22SPEAKER_01: No, no, no.
- 13:23SPEAKER_01: Go ahead.
- 13:23SPEAKER_01: Any other things?
- 13:24SPEAKER_02: Are we moving on for Micah Hudson after this?
- 13:25SPEAKER_01: I think so.
- 13:26SPEAKER_01: I think so.
- 13:26SPEAKER_02: Okay, well, I guess I just want to say one more thing.
- 13:29SPEAKER_02: And I I don't want this to seem like I I guess it's kind of like a uh a conundrum here where I'm about to say rent-free.
- 13:35SPEAKER_02: Can the UT fans please get a life?
- 13:38SPEAKER_02: Like, can you please find something to better do with your time than to tweet at a young man that's just choosing to go to a college where he feels like he's gonna fit in the best?
- 13:48SPEAKER_02: Like, why does this have to be like a huge issue for you personally?
- 13:51SPEAKER_02: You know, like it's just it's so crazy the amount of UT fans that need to make their voice heard whenever like he made that commitment.
- 13:58SPEAKER_01: It's yeah, that's it's true.
- 14:00SPEAKER_01: I mean, those type of people stink every anytime you're in a high school kid's DMs or high school kids' comments saying, you know, you'll never amount to anything because you didn't choose the school that I root for.
- 14:13SPEAKER_01: It's ridiculous.
- 14:14SPEAKER_01: There's also been a lot of tech fans that have been trying to clap back at the longhorns um when we really have no place to talk at this point.
- 14:22SPEAKER_01: Right now, we don't have a lot of place.
- 14:24SPEAKER_01: I'm just saying, I'm not gonna bring up the other game.
- 14:27SPEAKER_01: I'm saying we're 0-2.
- 14:29SPEAKER_01: Maybe shut your mouth a little bit.
- 14:30SPEAKER_01: I love a good trash talk.
- 14:32SPEAKER_01: You, I'm not gonna tell you how to be a fan, but you don't really have much leg to stand on at this point.
- 14:37SPEAKER_01: Maybe wait until later in the season when we're playing the Longhorns, and hopefully we're at pretty equal records at that point, and then we go into Austin and beat them, then you talk your mess.
- 14:46SPEAKER_01: But yeah, right now, I don't know, man.
- 14:48SPEAKER_01: It's tough luck.
- 14:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I know.
- 14:51SPEAKER_02: I I I feel you.
- 14:52SPEAKER_02: I'm not, I would never talk mess about that sort of thing right now.
- 14:55SPEAKER_02: Absolutely, I'm with you.
- 14:56SPEAKER_02: Um, and I I don't know, I don't know if like talking trash about landing a crew or a crew really hits, you know.
- 15:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, I don't I don't know about that because it's it's not really an on-the-field product, you know.
- 15:08SPEAKER_02: That's that's really the only place they can sit there and really talk mess about because that's really where the fun is.
- 15:12SPEAKER_02: But um, no, I'm with you.
- 15:14SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's still a W for the program.
- 15:16SPEAKER_02: It's still it's a momentum builder.
- 15:18SPEAKER_02: Um, but last thing though, do you think the timing had anything to do with like do you think the timing was special at all as to why he did it now?
- 15:24SPEAKER_01: Rather than they brought everybody to the Oregon game, they brought Will Hammond, they brought Hudson, they brought all the recruits to the Oregon game to hopefully, you know, come up with a huge crowd win.
- 15:36SPEAKER_01: But they saw it was a great crowd.
- 15:38SPEAKER_01: I mean, they showed up, they gave the game day atmosphere that you want in college football.
- 15:42SPEAKER_01: So shout out to everybody that showed up.
- 15:43SPEAKER_01: But um, yeah, that that's the reason.
- 15:46SPEAKER_01: He I think he was always gonna commit after this game, and clearly it was winner or loss.
- 15:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, that that's a that's an excellent point.
- 15:52SPEAKER_02: Um, and I'm but I'm I'm so glad he did.
- 15:55SPEAKER_02: I'm so glad he committed when he did because it really got the fans re-engaged immediately because it's really easy to kind of drift off when you're 0-2 and be like, all right, I'll let's see how the season goes and see how much more invests I'm gonna get.
- 16:07SPEAKER_02: Um obviously not degenerates like us and probably most of our listeners who are just gonna be so lucky at all times, no matter how much it kills them.
- 16:16SPEAKER_02: But um, I I think it's great to so people, you know, are re-engaged with the program, re-re-engage, interested in what's happening at TechStech Football rather than just kind of counting them out.
- 16:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 16:26SPEAKER_01: I mean, we were doomers after we lost to Oregon.
- 16:29SPEAKER_01: Yes, it takes you a couple days to really, you know, kind of understand and come back to your senses a little bit about what happened, what just happened, um reach your equilibrium, why we're in the position that we're in.
- 16:42SPEAKER_01: Um do you wanna do you want to just get it over with?
- 16:45SPEAKER_02: Let's talk about it.
- 16:46SPEAKER_01: Let's talk about Oregon.
- 16:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah first thing I noticed, and we'll get we'll get to Shuck because I know everyone's waiting to hear thoughts on Shuck.
- 16:56SPEAKER_01: This football team is still undisciplined.
- 16:58SPEAKER_01: Now it's early in the season, second game of the year.
- 17:02SPEAKER_01: Oregon was more undisciplined.
- 17:04SPEAKER_01: They had 14 penalties this game, Oregon.
- 17:07SPEAKER_01: That's a testament to the home crowd, I think.
- 17:10SPEAKER_01: I think the environment was loud, the people were rocking, there was some false starts, there was just some bad football being played by Oregon at times.
- 17:17SPEAKER_01: But you as Texas Tech, you had six penalties for 65 yards, one of which was a holding call on the on the right guard, right guard, Jacoby Jackson took away a touchdown early in the game.
- 17:29SPEAKER_01: Mason Tharp.
- 17:30SPEAKER_01: We did get that one back, same possession, threw one to uh Miles Price.
- 17:35SPEAKER_01: It was kind of a weak call, but it still took away a touchdown.
- 17:38SPEAKER_01: Oregon's second touchdown of the game.
- 17:40SPEAKER_01: You had him third and goal from the 13, and you got beat and you gave up a touchdown.
- 17:45SPEAKER_01: Uh, you can't do that in the red zone.
- 17:47SPEAKER_01: Uh they had a couple of false starts, put them back a little bit, and you did not capitalize on it.
- 17:52SPEAKER_01: Undisciplined football.
- 17:54SPEAKER_01: Third quarter, tech, you're up nine.
- 17:56SPEAKER_01: You had Oregon third and eleven.
- 17:59SPEAKER_01: Bradford missed the tackle, Dunlap missed the tackle on a Bo Nick's run to keep the Oregon drive going.
- 18:06SPEAKER_01: Same drive, they had a third and five, broken coverage led to a first down.
- 18:10SPEAKER_01: And then the same drive, you had a third and three, Bo Nicks runs right around for a first down in the red zone for a touchdown.
- 18:18SPEAKER_01: This is bad football outside of Shuck.
- 18:23SPEAKER_01: We'll get to Shuck, but there are other pieces on this team that are not leading to winning football, is my overall point here.
- 18:35SPEAKER_02: I think that was an excellent diagnosis.
- 18:37SPEAKER_02: It's so easy to hyper focus in on the quarterback just because he is, you know, he's the star of the show.
- 18:42SPEAKER_02: He's the most important player on the field generally, so it's really easy to put all the blame on him.
- 18:47SPEAKER_02: Um, and he did, he does absolutely share some of the blame at the end of the day.
- 18:51SPEAKER_02: But I I'm with you, man.
- 18:53SPEAKER_02: I feel like we keep coming up short in key moments.
- 18:56SPEAKER_02: It seems like we just can never, we haven't been able to put it away.
- 19:00SPEAKER_02: We we keep having the crushing blow within our grasp, but we keep letting it fit squiggle right out of our hands like a fish.
- 19:08SPEAKER_02: You know, it just keeps we're trying, it's like we're trying to pick up a fish and the fish keeps squiggling out.
- 19:12SPEAKER_02: Like every time we're we're like, we have you, I'm gonna eat you, and the fish just jumps out again.
- 19:17SPEAKER_02: Um what a great, what a great analogy that was.
- 19:19SPEAKER_02: I can do them too.
- 19:21SPEAKER_02: So I'm so with you, man.
- 19:22SPEAKER_02: It's it's it's crazy to watch us have momentum and then immediately blow it ourselves.
- 19:27SPEAKER_02: Not so much just getting flat out beat by the other team, like you keep kept running and bringing up with Oregon being quite outdisciplined as well, but us just shooting ourselves in the foot over and over again.
- 19:35SPEAKER_02: And it's it's extra frustrating because I just I don't level remember this level of inconsistency from last year.
- 19:42SPEAKER_02: I feel like last year this just this wasn't as much of an issue, and maybe I'm just misremembering, but I just don't rec recall the inconsistency with discipline and blowing critical moments like like this.
- 19:58SPEAKER_01: It happened.
- 19:59SPEAKER_01: I mean, you we forget that we had a losing record halfway through the season last year.
- 20:04SPEAKER_01: You know, there were games that we were in that we probably should have won, but gave up some big plays.
- 20:08SPEAKER_01: There's the TCU game comes to mind, the uh Kansas State game comes to mind last year.
- 20:14SPEAKER_01: But I I we'll get to Shuck because Shuck did plenty wrong this game, and we'll get to that.
- 20:20SPEAKER_01: But I want to point out some other things before we start just railing Tyler Shuck for this loss.
- 20:28SPEAKER_01: I I don't complain about refs very often.
- 20:31SPEAKER_01: I don't.
- 20:32SPEAKER_01: I think plenty of people do that far too much.
- 20:34SPEAKER_01: I've said it plenty of times on this podcast.
- 20:37SPEAKER_01: The missed interception in the red zone in the end zone by Malik Dunlap is inexcusable by the refereeing crew.
- 20:45SPEAKER_01: That man made a hell of a play on a tip pass, grabbed it in the air, tucked it into him, and then went out of bounds.
- 20:54SPEAKER_01: Got two feet in bounds, but because apparently after you grab it and tuck it, that's not enough.
- 21:02SPEAKER_01: You need to like maintain even a little bit of a wiggle when you hit the ground, and that's why it was not called an interception.
- 21:11SPEAKER_01: That is an interception.
- 21:13SPEAKER_01: He intercepted the ball in the red zone in the fourth quarter in a huge drive, and the refs blew that call big time.
- 21:22SPEAKER_02: That I I remember I remember being incredibly frustrated with that.
- 21:25SPEAKER_02: I even tweeted it, I tweeted about it as well.
- 21:27SPEAKER_02: Um, that's you know, and you and I were we we're both we both don't like to rail in on the refs, just kind of a lazy complaint most of the time, um, because it's usually something that your your team kind of did at the same time.
- 21:38SPEAKER_02: But with this, this was a game changing call.
- 21:42SPEAKER_02: That is a game changing call.
- 21:46SPEAKER_02: You cannot miss game changing calls.
- 21:49SPEAKER_02: A holding here and there is not gonna decide the game, but a miss interception that at that point in the game, it could have been ice for the ducks.
- 21:59SPEAKER_03: We could
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: We could have we could have played our we could have played out the rest of the game conservatively with the lead and won.
- 22:06SPEAKER_02: But the refs robbed us of the opportunity of doing that in such a critical red zone moment.
- 22:12SPEAKER_02: And I lost my mind.
- 22:14SPEAKER_02: And it really felt like at that point, it was just like it was destiny that we were going to lose that game.
- 22:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:19SPEAKER_01: It reminded me a lot about the Tyree face mask call where he was nowhere near the face.
- 22:25SPEAKER_01: I think it was the TCU game where that happened.
- 22:27SPEAKER_01: It's just a blown call.
- 22:29SPEAKER_01: I mean, they went and reviewed it, and they still blew the call.
- 22:32SPEAKER_01: It was insane.
- 22:34SPEAKER_01: But besides the refs, besides the defense, you you had some coaching mishaps this game.
- 22:41SPEAKER_01: For sure.
- 22:42SPEAKER_01: You went you went for two early after Oregon successfully converted a two-point conversion.
- 22:48SPEAKER_01: You then scored a touchdown and then went for two.
- 22:52SPEAKER_01: I like the aggressiveness.
- 22:55SPEAKER_01: Our two-point conversion calls this year have been dog.
- 22:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 23:00SPEAKER_01: So then they both have been terrible.
- 23:03SPEAKER_01: The Wyoming game, the this game now.
- 23:07SPEAKER_01: If you don't go for two earlier in that drive, it's a 31-31 ballgame with a minute 10 left before Shuck throws the pick six.
- 23:15SPEAKER_01: You maybe don't have as much sense of urgency to go down the field and Shuck try to make that play.
- 23:20SPEAKER_01: And I'm all I'm saying is you don't make that call to go for two there.
- 23:25SPEAKER_01: It's a tie ball game with a minute left, and you probably go into overtime.
- 23:29SPEAKER_01: That was a mistake by whether it was Kitley or Joey Maguire.
- 23:33SPEAKER_01: Taj Brooks ran the ball six times.
- 23:36SPEAKER_01: He averaged 11 yards a carry.
- 23:37SPEAKER_01: He ran the ball six times.
- 23:41SPEAKER_01: Why do we not use our very good running back more?
- 23:47SPEAKER_01: I don't get it.
- 23:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm with you on the first one.
- 23:51SPEAKER_02: As soon as we lined up for a two-point, I uh had to talk myself into liking the aggressiveness, but I didn't like the call.
- 23:58SPEAKER_02: I know that's super easy to say in hindsight, but I I wanted us to just go ahead and take the point and get it back later.
- 24:03SPEAKER_02: Uh it's just like it was a long ball game.
- 24:05SPEAKER_02: It was the first quarter, I think, right?
- 24:08SPEAKER_02: And it's it was really frustrating to watch us seem that desperate that early and just keep a cool ahead, play your stick to the original game plan and see where things unfold and maybe start considering moves like that if we're still down in the fourth.
- 24:22SPEAKER_02: It just it just seemed like it really seemed like a a missed call.
- 24:25SPEAKER_02: And obviously it proved to be, like you you pointed out.
- 24:28SPEAKER_02: And what the Tosh Brooks thing is I am fairly complex with how our offense is uh is running this year.
- 24:36SPEAKER_02: Uh I mean it's easy to say, you know, you're not impressed because A, I mean we're not winning ballgames, and it's up to the offense to score the points to do so.
- 24:44SPEAKER_02: But I have been a little I've been a little head scratcher about our offense lately, and I'm waiting for Zach Kitley to you know settle in and figure and figure out what weapons he really has.
- 24:55SPEAKER_02: I don't know if perhaps this is just him relying on a off-season playbook that hasn't really adjusted to a game day situation, and that maybe he'll just more impressed with the way the passing game was unfolding in practice, more so than the running game.
- 25:08SPEAKER_02: And I I I wish he was a little more um adaptive right now and figuring out what works and what doesn't.
- 25:17SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's his job, it's his job to be playing rock, paper, scissors all day game long.
- 25:20SPEAKER_02: I just felt like he stuck with Brock the whole time rather than switching two scissors or something, so which would have been the running back.
- 25:26SPEAKER_02: So I'm with you, man.
- 25:27SPEAKER_02: It's it's really frustrating looking at that sort of stat line from Tosh Brooks, who's incredible, and just not letting him carry you a bit, let him walk you down the field for a while, you know, take some pressure off of Shuck, take some pressure off the receivers, and it keeps your defense on the bench, it lets them rest.
- 25:43SPEAKER_01: You're not on the field so much.
- 25:45SPEAKER_01: That's some of the frustrating.
- 25:48SPEAKER_01: That's a good point because I do think Kitley kind of goes with a mindset and he's gonna stick to it no matter what.
- 25:54SPEAKER_01: When I think the best offensive coordinators adjust as they see the game go, and when your running back is killing it, I mean, 11 yards a carry is stupid, and it was only on six carries.
- 26:08SPEAKER_01: I know you know he had two big breakaways, but you have you were on fourth and two.
- 26:14SPEAKER_01: This is another coaching mistake.
- 26:15SPEAKER_01: You're fourth and two, you're in your own side of the field, you're on your own 30, I think.
- 26:21SPEAKER_01: Fourth quarter, you're up two, and you go for it on fourth and two.
- 26:26SPEAKER_01: We know this staff's mentality on going for it on fourth and short.
- 26:30SPEAKER_02: But that deep in your own territory with the lead.
- 26:33SPEAKER_02: When when with the win the game Austin's happening, when the game Austin's thing.
- 26:38SPEAKER_02: I know that's what I mean.
- 26:38SPEAKER_02: That's that's what I said.
- 26:39SPEAKER_01: I know, I know, I'm agreeing with you.
- 26:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, this is it was a dumb decision to go for it.
- 26:44SPEAKER_01: It was also a dumb decision to let Tyler Shuck run the ball.
- 26:47SPEAKER_01: Give it to your running back who's averaging 11 yards a carry for fourth and two.
- 26:50SPEAKER_01: How about that?
- 26:51SPEAKER_01: Or how about some RPO action?
- 26:53SPEAKER_01: How about just not a straight up quarterback run on fourth and two in your own side of the field?
- 26:58SPEAKER_01: That was another coaching mishap that I was very frustrated with.
- 27:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that was that was the first thing my co-worker said to me whenever I walked in was like, Whoa, why'd you why'd y'all go for it on fourth down?
- 27:08SPEAKER_01: And they stick to it, they have a mentality analytically, you should go for it, whatever.
- 27:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but that's a button.
- 27:15SPEAKER_02: But their analytic book, but I know, but their analytic book shouldn't have lined up with that position on the field and the game.
- 27:21SPEAKER_02: Like, because they they usually have it, they kind of have it down to a bit of a science.
- 27:25SPEAKER_02: And I felt like we were too deep in our territory to go for it, especially with the lead.
- 27:29SPEAKER_02: Like, I would I would almost understand it if you're basically half field, but we weren't.
- 27:34SPEAKER_02: So I any like in in Austin McNamara was dropping dimes.
- 27:39SPEAKER_02: I I don't know why you don't trust Austin in the defense in that moment rather than risking the entire game right then and there.
- 27:47SPEAKER_02: Like you don't give yourself any options after that.
- 27:49SPEAKER_02: So if it doesn't go right, it's done, and it was.
- 27:52SPEAKER_02: So, especially since we uh we we couldn't uh get the right call.
- 27:56SPEAKER_02: So I I I don't know.
- 27:58SPEAKER_02: I don't know, man.
- 27:58SPEAKER_02: It's just this I think pointing the fingers at the staff is really appropriate right now.
- 28:03SPEAKER_02: And I just I I'm just I'm just frustrated.
- 28:08SPEAKER_02: I was gonna I'm gonna put a period on that right now.
- 28:10SPEAKER_01: Okay, let's move on.
- 28:12SPEAKER_01: Let's talk about what I think a lot of people want to hear about, and that's why Tyler Shuck is ruining games for Texas Tech.
- 28:19SPEAKER_01: Um, the turnovers are pretty inexcusable.
- 28:23SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 28:23SPEAKER_01: You had you had a fumble at the end of the half when you're in your own red zone, you're getting ready to score, and you have four minutes left, it's first and ten, and you just try to do too much.
- 28:34SPEAKER_01: Granted, you had a defender right in your grill, but man, you got to throw the ball away.
- 28:38SPEAKER_01: And this is a problem with college quarterbacks.
- 28:41SPEAKER_01: They do not just throw the ball away when they need to.
- 28:45SPEAKER_01: You have two to three more downs, you're already in scoring position.
- 28:50SPEAKER_01: Don't try to do too much.
- 28:52SPEAKER_01: That's what happens when you try to do too much.
- 28:54SPEAKER_01: You're trying to hero ball, and this is the Tyler Shuck that we've seen before.
- 28:58SPEAKER_01: Try to do this, and it always doesn't work out.
- 29:02SPEAKER_01: That play was so frustrating.
- 29:04SPEAKER_01: The interception right after the Texas Tech, just beautiful touchdown drive.
- 29:11SPEAKER_01: You go down, you take the lead on Oregon, you stop them, three and out, you block the punt, you're already on your own 40.
- 29:20SPEAKER_01: And then Tyler Shuck, the very next play, throws an interception.
- 29:25SPEAKER_01: Killing all momentum.
- 29:27SPEAKER_01: Tyler Shuck, what are you doing?
- 29:31SPEAKER_01: And then oh, sorry.
- 29:34SPEAKER_02: I thought you were pausing.
- 29:35SPEAKER_01: I got one more.
- 29:36SPEAKER_01: I was pausing for effect.
- 29:39SPEAKER_02: I'm sorry, I ruined it.
- 29:40SPEAKER_01: The backbreaker.
- 29:42SPEAKER_01: You're down one.
- 29:44SPEAKER_01: You're driving down the field.
- 29:46SPEAKER_01: Made a great play to Xavier White.
- 29:48SPEAKER_01: He breaks away from the defender, goes about a 20-30 yard gain.
- 29:52SPEAKER_01: Shuck again tries to get the ball out when he's got a defender right in his grill.
- 29:58SPEAKER_01: Dude, throw the ball out of bounds.
- 30:02SPEAKER_01: I know you only have 40 seconds left, but it's so much better than what you did, which was throw it right to the Oregon defender for a pick six to basically seal the game.
- 30:13SPEAKER_01: Now, there is another part of this.
- 30:15SPEAKER_01: There were four rushers, there were five linemen.
- 30:18SPEAKER_01: I can't tell by looking at the play, but either Rusty Stotz or Cole Spencer really messed up and completely missed their block, and the guy was in Shuck's grill instantly on that play.
- 30:29SPEAKER_01: So blame goes to the interior offensive line right there for just having a guy right in his grill.
- 30:37SPEAKER_01: But Tyler Shuck, man, you have to be smarter.
- 30:41SPEAKER_01: And the that's three huge plays.
- 30:44SPEAKER_01: I don't care about the interception at the end of the game.
- 30:45SPEAKER_01: That was a Hail Mary.
- 30:47SPEAKER_01: But three of those interceptions were not completely on him, but were he was very much a reason for that.
- 30:54SPEAKER_01: And that's the most frustrating part about watching Tyler Shuck play football.
- 30:59SPEAKER_02: You know, there there was there's gotta be like a funny irony to all this.
- 31:03SPEAKER_02: You know, he's obviously he probably goes into this game with a lot on his mind.
- 31:09SPEAKER_02: This probably he's he probably has never wanted to win a game more than uh this one in his entire career.
- 31:15SPEAKER_02: So that's obviously gonna overwhelm him.
- 31:17SPEAKER_02: And I get that.
- 31:18SPEAKER_02: And but obviously it's up to you to get laser focused and again, get going.
- 31:22SPEAKER_02: But there's probably a bit of a hilarious irony to all the Duck fans watching this game and being completely vindicated in their feelings about Tyler Shuck, about his turnover proneness, his inability to close out games, and just not being the guy.
- 31:43SPEAKER_02: And I I I they there are they are completely logical in feeling that, especially being on the other side of the ball now.
- 31:51SPEAKER_02: So there's a really painful irony there for being a tech fan, and whenever you're really expecting Tyler Shuck to, you know, as we said this this last last episode, kind of gamble and not give a heck, but um it just it just didn't pan out the way we planned with Tyler Shuck in this game.
- 32:11SPEAKER_02: And because I was really banking on him having the game of his life, and unfortunately, he was a significant reason why we handed it over to the ducks at home.
- 32:20SPEAKER_01: The most frustrating part is when he looks good, he looks really good, dude.
- 32:25SPEAKER_01: He broke off that 55-yard run at the very beginning of the game.
- 32:29SPEAKER_01: He threw a dot to Mason Tharp.
- 32:31SPEAKER_01: Touchdown gets called back.
- 32:32SPEAKER_01: He responds by giving another dot to Miles Price.
- 32:36SPEAKER_01: He had some drives where he's leading the way and he's running and he's getting key third downs and keeping us in this game, and he looks fantastic.
- 32:45SPEAKER_01: And he looks like the Tyler Shuck that you want leading this program and that what Zach Kitley sees and what Joey McGuire sees every day, what you expect from a senior.
- 32:54SPEAKER_01: Then he goes and throws a pick, then he goes and fumbles, then he goes and does this.
- 32:58SPEAKER_01: It's just it's like four or five plays in the game where it's just backbreaking for your team, and he always seems to do this, and that's the most frustrating part about all this.
- 33:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and that's that that's 100% the the pain all of our our fans are feeling right now.
- 33:17SPEAKER_02: Um, and now the inevitable has happened within the fan base.
- 33:20SPEAKER_02: He officially has a significant portion turning against him.
- 33:24SPEAKER_02: Um, we got a whole lot of people calling for Baron Morton at this point because obviously, whenever you're 0-2, guess who the most popular person on the field is now?
- 33:32SPEAKER_02: Backup QB, baby.
- 33:34SPEAKER_02: So the favorite player on the team.
- 33:36SPEAKER_02: So um it's it's not uncalled for either.
- 33:39SPEAKER_02: So it's because in many ways, Tyler Shuck could have won us this game, and he just he didn't.
- 33:45SPEAKER_02: So I understand why people want to turn to our incredibly talented backup quarterback.
- 33:52SPEAKER_02: And now he's got a lot of work to do to to quiet those people down and make them believe again.
- 33:57SPEAKER_02: It's not it's not their fault that they feel that way, it's his.
- 34:00SPEAKER_02: So it's it's just unfortunately that's the situation now.
- 34:04SPEAKER_01: I just got I just got one thing to say.
- 34:08SPEAKER_01: What I haven't had one person convince me that Baron Morton is going to go into this and be unbelievable.
- 34:16SPEAKER_01: I just don't.
- 34:18SPEAKER_01: The Baron Morton hype is based on hope alone.
- 34:21SPEAKER_01: It's based on one game, the Oklahoma State game, where it was a surprise.
- 34:27SPEAKER_01: He played awesome, he got hurt.
- 34:29SPEAKER_01: You blame the loss on him getting hurt.
- 34:32SPEAKER_01: You know, he has a good game against the bad West Virginia team.
- 34:35SPEAKER_01: He goes and plays not he plays okay against TCU, but again, he gets hurt.
- 34:40SPEAKER_01: He plays terrible against Baylor last year.
- 34:43SPEAKER_01: I mean, one of the worst games I've seen from a quarterback.
- 34:46SPEAKER_01: But I just don't know that Baron Morton is an automatic answer.
- 34:53SPEAKER_01: I don't, and until I see it, I'll believe it.
- 34:57SPEAKER_01: But I'm just not gonna be one of those guys that automatically calls for the backup quarterback every time.
- 35:03SPEAKER_01: I've done it far too much at Texas Tech, and it hardly ever works out.
- 35:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm not saying Baron Morton, I'm not saying Baron Morton isn't talented.
- 35:10SPEAKER_01: I think he's going to be a great quarterback one day.
- 35:12SPEAKER_01: Do I think it's gonna happen this year?
- 35:14SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 35:15SPEAKER_01: I but I'm not I Tyler Shuck has played good enough to win these games.
- 35:19SPEAKER_01: There's just been other things, but he has also committed these turnovers that really beats my point here.
- 35:26SPEAKER_01: And it's like not helping me out.
- 35:28SPEAKER_02: The case is falling apart again.
- 35:30SPEAKER_01: You're not helping me out, dude.
- 35:32SPEAKER_01: You're really not, but I just I don't think Baron Morton is this instant cure that some people think he's going to be.
- 35:39SPEAKER_01: Now he could, he could very well just go in there and be awesome, and everybody, I told you so.
- 35:46SPEAKER_01: Fine.
- 35:47SPEAKER_01: I don't think that's a guarantee.
- 35:50SPEAKER_02: Baron Morton is going to be an incredible Texas Tech quarterback next year.
- 35:56SPEAKER_02: I have no doubt about that in my mind.
- 35:58SPEAKER_02: I have not fallen into despair for far enough to want to hand the keys over and completely change drivers of the offense yet.
- 36:09SPEAKER_02: I'm not there yet.
- 36:10SPEAKER_02: Uh I I think I think Tyler Shuck, obviously, we have the most perfect get right game ahead of us where you just have a nice little tasty cupcake to really settle back into your shoes and figure things out.
- 36:20SPEAKER_02: You know, get that get the monkey off your back with a W in the win column finally and get things right again.
- 36:27SPEAKER_02: You're zero and zero in Big 12 play.
- 36:29SPEAKER_02: You can forget about this disaster of an of an out-of-conference, which it is.
- 36:34SPEAKER_02: There's no way around it.
- 36:35SPEAKER_02: Ending this out of conference one and two is a disaster.
- 36:38SPEAKER_02: 100%.
- 36:39SPEAKER_02: Had we beaten Wyoming, this Oregon game, we could shrug it off easily.
- 36:44SPEAKER_02: We could look at this going, the boys fought hard.
- 36:48SPEAKER_02: It wasn't perfect, but man, we just got to tune some things up.
- 36:51SPEAKER_02: And the Big 12 was we're gonna we're gonna hit the Big 12 hard.
- 36:55SPEAKER_02: But you can't say that after the Wyoming night now.
- 36:58SPEAKER_02: But if you beat, if you lost Wyoming and beat Oregon, obviously this podcast would be completely different.
- 37:03SPEAKER_02: But that's all theoretical at this point.
- 37:05SPEAKER_02: I think once we get this, get this Harlton game out of the way, and we start seeing things start to hum again, start to function like it should, we'll start seeing a Tyler Shuck that is in his zone and ready to play again, you know, really game again.
- 37:18SPEAKER_02: And I think people will start to quiet down about the backup quarterback thing.
- 37:21SPEAKER_02: Um it's it's we we bring this up each time, but there's also a lot to Baron Morton being the the the West Texas son that everybody wants to see as well.
- 37:30SPEAKER_02: You know, he's just he's kind of like the chosen, he's like the chosen one.
- 37:34SPEAKER_02: And I really do think he's gonna be amazing next year.
- 37:36SPEAKER_02: But I I really want to I really want to see what the six-year senior does.
- 37:39SPEAKER_02: And uh there's just he's just he's just too good to be this bad for this long.
- 37:44SPEAKER_02: And I don't I hope that doesn't sound stupid, but that's just kind of my case.
- 37:48SPEAKER_01: I just I just hate how it's become if you don't want Barron Morton to start, you're anti-Baron Morton.
- 37:53SPEAKER_01: None of us are anti-Baron Morton, nobody, nobody is anti-Baron Morton.
- 37:57SPEAKER_01: I we all think Baron Morton's gonna be a good quarterback.
- 38:00SPEAKER_01: Some just think he's the better quarterback right now than Tyler Shuck, and I don't necessarily agree with that estimate.
- 38:06SPEAKER_01: Um, if if something were to happen in Tarleton State, or even in your next your next four games are all extremely winnable.
- 38:16SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 38:17SPEAKER_01: Tarleton, West Virginia, Houston, Baylor.
- 38:20SPEAKER_01: All of those are extremely winnable.
- 38:21SPEAKER_01: If you're not four and two, we can potentially talk about a different quarterback.
- 38:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but that's that's fair.
- 38:27SPEAKER_01: But right now, no.
- 38:29SPEAKER_01: I don't I'm still not on that train.
- 38:31SPEAKER_01: And yeah, again, you think however you want to think.
- 38:35SPEAKER_01: I'm just gonna stick to my stick to my thing here.
- 38:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 38:39SPEAKER_02: Um are are we are we wrapping up on the quarterback part?
- 38:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 38:43SPEAKER_02: Are we wrapping up on the football completely?
- 38:45SPEAKER_01: Well, I wanted to hit on a couple things with the defense first.
- 38:48SPEAKER_02: Okay, go for it before we put some put the final thoughts on it because I got final thoughts.
- 38:52SPEAKER_01: I I kind of started off bagging on the defense for some of the plays they made.
- 38:56SPEAKER_01: They played pretty good throughout the majority of this game.
- 38:58SPEAKER_01: I you know, holding uh Oregon to really 31 points, 38 was that last pick six, so that wasn't on the defense.
- 39:06SPEAKER_01: Uh, is really good.
- 39:07SPEAKER_01: They had 18 points through the third quarter.
- 39:09SPEAKER_01: I mean, for an Oregon offense that scored 81 points the week previously.
- 39:13SPEAKER_01: So the defense held up in a lot of plays.
- 39:15SPEAKER_01: There's just lapses on third downs where they're so backbreaking, and it's your bend, don't break, and you broke.
- 39:21SPEAKER_01: Braylon Lux, I was really high on in the Wyoming game.
- 39:24SPEAKER_01: I thought he played excellent.
- 39:25SPEAKER_01: He gave up and got beat, completely beat twice on the first two touchdowns of this game.
- 39:30SPEAKER_01: And it was both him, and it's just something that you cannot have from your cornerback that is getting a lot of hype.
- 39:37SPEAKER_01: Uh, I thought Ben Roberts had a nice game.
- 39:39SPEAKER_01: He's stepping in for the injured Jacob Rodriguez at inside linebacker there.
- 39:43SPEAKER_01: Thought he played well for a registered freshman, really, you know, stuck to his guns and played played the right um played the right scheme a lot of the time.
- 39:51SPEAKER_01: Your interior D-line got great pressure.
- 39:54SPEAKER_01: I Tony Bradford and Jalen Hutchings, I can't say enough about those two.
- 39:57SPEAKER_01: I think they're fantastic football players.
- 39:59SPEAKER_01: I'm so glad they're on this team.
- 40:01SPEAKER_01: But where the hell are Steve Linton and Miles Cole?
- 40:05SPEAKER_01: I said this at the beginning of the year.
- 40:07SPEAKER_01: Where the hell are these sacks that we've been promised?
- 40:10SPEAKER_01: These guys, it doesn't even seem like they're there on the field sometimes.
- 40:14SPEAKER_01: And it's frustrating because I know Oregon's a really good team and not getting to Bo Nicks.
- 40:20SPEAKER_01: I know he's a running quarterback.
- 40:21SPEAKER_01: It's tough to get him.
- 40:22SPEAKER_01: But man, we were promised first round, second round, third round picks for these guys in the NFL, and they haven't done shit.
- 40:28SPEAKER_02: Steven, Steven, please do like the Stephen A.
- 40:31SPEAKER_02: Smith.
- 40:31SPEAKER_02: I've been lied to stay off the weed.
- 40:34SPEAKER_02: Or stay off the weed.
- 40:36SPEAKER_02: I've been run amok.
- 40:37SPEAKER_02: I have been I've been bamboozled.
- 40:40SPEAKER_02: I've been run amok.
- 40:43SPEAKER_02: You have been fed, you haven't been fed snake poison, my friends.
- 40:47SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 40:48SPEAKER_02: Um, but I I mean I'm with you.
- 40:50SPEAKER_02: I I can I can totally understand.
- 40:52SPEAKER_02: It's it seems like you know, we can't just can't seem to get the guy.
- 40:55SPEAKER_02: Uh, we can't seem to get the passer back there.
- 40:57SPEAKER_02: But um, I I understand that frustration.
- 41:00SPEAKER_02: It's still early in the year, there's still some magic to happen, and that's kind of my like final point on this.
- 41:07SPEAKER_02: Is there is still so much time left in the season.
- 41:11SPEAKER_02: And I'm not I'm not saying that as like an excuse to how things have been doing, but uh it feels uh the losses make it feel like we've been doing this for weeks now because that's just what losses do.
- 41:24SPEAKER_02: So, but we still are entering this Big 12 season zero and zero, and that's what's really going to matter now.
- 41:31SPEAKER_02: You have to make that the only thing that matters at this point.
- 41:34SPEAKER_02: And sure, we may have to readjust our expectations, but it's it's we still have a long, long road ahead of us for everything to get better or stay the same.
- 41:46SPEAKER_02: We'll see.
- 41:47SPEAKER_02: But I I have a good feeling things will still end up okay.
- 41:50SPEAKER_02: I I just I have too much faith in this team, I have too much faith in the staff to get right.
- 41:54SPEAKER_02: Um, but uh it's just it's it's just really frustrating.
- 41:57SPEAKER_02: I I don't know when the last time TechSech started 0-2.
- 42:00SPEAKER_02: It's probably been a very long time.
- 42:02SPEAKER_02: So, and then we've had some really bad teams this past decade.
- 42:06SPEAKER_02: So uh I I I feel good about thing, uh, you know, our team, but obviously I just hate the record.
- 42:12SPEAKER_01: Same, I have one more thing that I didn't get to say when I was doing my Baron Morton spiel.
- 42:18SPEAKER_01: I've I saw far I know I saw far too many people saying, I wouldn't be so upset if Baron Morton was the guy making mistakes because he's a sophomore.
- 42:26SPEAKER_01: Shut up.
- 42:27SPEAKER_01: You would be upset no matter what.
- 42:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no matter what, who throws an interception if it's if it's freaking the third.
- 42:33SPEAKER_02: Jake Strong time, baby.
- 42:34SPEAKER_01: If it's if Jake Strong is throwing these interceptions, you're gonna be upset.
- 42:38SPEAKER_01: So shut up about that.
- 42:39SPEAKER_01: Okay, that was that was it.
- 42:40SPEAKER_02: That's that's fair, bro.
- 42:41SPEAKER_02: That's that's that's that's a valid anger right there.
- 42:44SPEAKER_02: Let it out.
- 42:45SPEAKER_01: Let's move on.
- 42:46SPEAKER_01: Tarleton State.
- 42:48SPEAKER_02: A lot to talk about here.
- 42:50SPEAKER_01: There's not.
- 42:52SPEAKER_02: Umst ever matchup, ever, I think.
- 42:57SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah, probably probably, yeah.
- 43:00SPEAKER_01: Because they just moved up to Division I've got to be.
- 43:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they're just D1.
- 43:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they're just D1.
- 43:05SPEAKER_01: Listen, if this game's close, I'm gonna be upset.
- 43:09SPEAKER_01: Me too, thanks.
- 43:10SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna be so upset.
- 43:11SPEAKER_01: This is an opportunity for your team to take out some frustrations and just beat the absolute dog out of these people.
- 43:17SPEAKER_01: Um these poor Stevenville folk.
- 43:21SPEAKER_01: Tarleton has put up some numbers, I think, this year.
- 43:24SPEAKER_01: They've scored 50 plus points in both of their games to start off the year.
- 43:27SPEAKER_01: I I could not name the teams that they played, numbers, but this is just an opportunity to let it all out.
- 43:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, just go and absolutely beat the hell out of this team and get some momentum, get some positivity back in the program, get some people watching the game, give the home fans something to cheer about.
- 43:47SPEAKER_01: If this game's close, I'm gonna be really mad.
- 43:50SPEAKER_02: Play pissed off, be mean, okay?
- 43:55SPEAKER_02: Play with your hair on fire, like Steven said, get it out.
- 44:00SPEAKER_02: Out.
- 44:00SPEAKER_02: Release the demons on the Texans.
- 44:04SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 44:05SPEAKER_02: Go ballistic.
- 44:06SPEAKER_02: They are an AM system school, so you don't have to feel that bad about it, all right?
- 44:10SPEAKER_02: Let it out.
- 44:10SPEAKER_02: So just let it the frick out, man.
- 44:14SPEAKER_02: Um, and I this is supposed supposedly a sold-out game.
- 44:17SPEAKER_02: I obviously with the results with Oregon, the students are not gonna show up.
- 44:22SPEAKER_01: The students are not gonna show up, the students are gonna leave at halftime because that's what they do at these FCS games that aren't very close.
- 44:28SPEAKER_02: But if we are blowing them the frick out, I don't really care.
- 44:32SPEAKER_02: That's fine.
- 44:34SPEAKER_02: They'll be back for the Big 12 games.
- 44:35SPEAKER_02: So it's fine.
- 44:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, just seriously crush them into a pulp.
- 44:40SPEAKER_02: It's an FCS team.
- 44:40SPEAKER_02: It better not be quick, it better not be close.
- 44:42SPEAKER_02: Because I remember last year we're like, finally, we don't have to worry about these games anymore.
- 44:46SPEAKER_02: So let's make sure at least that remains, even with this disappointed out of conference slate.
- 44:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no doubt.
- 44:53SPEAKER_01: I mean, you don't look past it.
- 44:55SPEAKER_02: You know, it's the last thing you do is we have some serious issues if we do, some serious freaking issues.
- 45:01SPEAKER_01: So we're uh I it's likely that we're gonna be fine with how things ended up.
- 45:05SPEAKER_01: I think we're gonna win pretty handedly, but oh my god, get the first win on the board and go into Big 12 play winners, and let's just get some momentum going, guys.
- 45:16SPEAKER_02: Like I said, we are zero-zero in uh Big 12 play with very winnable opening slates.
- 45:21SPEAKER_02: So let's get right.
- 45:23SPEAKER_01: For sure, for sure.
- 45:24SPEAKER_01: Anything else?
- 45:26SPEAKER_02: That's it on football, dude.
- 45:27SPEAKER_02: I don't want to talk about it anymore because it makes me sad.
- 45:31SPEAKER_01: Micah Hudson, baby.
- 45:33SPEAKER_02: Oh, that's all that happened this week.
- 45:35SPEAKER_02: That's all right.
- 45:35SPEAKER_02: Let's go.
- 45:36SPEAKER_01: Let's talk about the basketball non-conference schedule because that released, I think, right before the game, or maybe it was like last Thursday or something.
- 45:44SPEAKER_01: I think it's like Friday.
- 45:44SPEAKER_02: I think it was like the Friday.
- 45:45SPEAKER_01: Friday, yeah.
- 45:46SPEAKER_01: It was some that they just kind of dropped under the radar.
- 45:49SPEAKER_01: Um, there's most of the games are your normal cupcakes, your normal, you know, get right.
- 45:54SPEAKER_01: Let's let's learn about our team a little bit, play a lot of games in the USA and you know, tier.
- 46:01SPEAKER_01: But this this schedule's nice for the first year of Grandma Castlin.
- 46:05SPEAKER_01: I'm and I think the consensus is we're all pretty happy with the level of opponents that we're playing before we get into the dreaded Big 12 of basketball.
- 46:16SPEAKER_01: So, you know, you start off with some cupcakes, you got some AM schools, AM Commerce, San Jose State, AM Corpus.
- 46:23SPEAKER_01: Then you go to one of your big boy tournaments, Battle for Atlantis.
- 46:28SPEAKER_01: Great opportunity here for this young team to get some dubs for Grandma Castlin to get this fan base behind him.
- 46:37SPEAKER_01: You're playing Villanova for sure.
- 46:39SPEAKER_01: You could potentially you're playing either North Carolina or Northern Iowa, depending on how both of our games go.
- 46:46SPEAKER_01: Michigan's in this tournament, Arkansas's in this tournament, Memphis, Stanford.
- 46:51SPEAKER_01: You have some opportunity to play three really good teams if you're winning.
- 46:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, even if you're not winning, you're still probably playing some pretty good teams.
- 46:58SPEAKER_01: So excellent early season opportunity.
- 47:01SPEAKER_02: Steven, you want to know the dumbest thing I'm gonna be saying on this podcast today?
- 47:04SPEAKER_01: What's that?
- 47:05SPEAKER_02: Every time I think of these like uh like Atlantis invitationals and stuff, I just think back to college where we'd be walking to McDonald's and getting some McPick twos right before the games and just settled in with our McFish to watch some tech basketball, baby.
- 47:21SPEAKER_02: You know, that I don't know why.
- 47:23SPEAKER_02: That is a key memory in my head now, and I can't get it out whenever I think of these invitational basketball games.
- 47:30SPEAKER_01: We had a McDonald's right behind us in college.
- 47:33SPEAKER_01: What street is that?
- 47:34SPEAKER_01: It was uh we we lived on 20th, but the McDonald's on 19th, we were literally, it was like our backyard.
- 47:40SPEAKER_01: I mean, we walked out of the backfits and we're like we would not buy toilet paper and just go to the bathroom in the McDonald's because it was right there.
- 47:48SPEAKER_01: But it's yes, the I love that Texas Tech is in these.
- 47:53SPEAKER_01: We're obviously in these because of our recent success, not last season, but the seasons prior.
- 47:58SPEAKER_01: That's how you get into these tournaments.
- 48:00SPEAKER_01: So great opportunity, yeah, chance to get on the board.
- 48:03SPEAKER_01: We also play Butler at Butler in the non-con, which is a good game.
- 48:07SPEAKER_01: Butler's not one of the best big East teams, but they're a solid opponent.
- 48:11SPEAKER_01: You go Omaha, you play Oral Roberts.
- 48:14SPEAKER_01: Oral Roberts lost Max Aismus, but still pretty good team.
- 48:20SPEAKER_01: No, Omaha's terrible.
- 48:22SPEAKER_02: Although they usually get a guy, a team in the tournament, but no, Omaha's terrible.
- 48:25SPEAKER_02: I'll shut up.
- 48:27SPEAKER_01: Vanderbilt, you got a um what do you call it?
- 48:30SPEAKER_01: Neutral site game in Dallas or forward Dickey's Arena.
- 48:34SPEAKER_01: That's where you're playing.
- 48:35SPEAKER_02: Oh, wow.
- 48:35SPEAKER_02: Way to give Vanderbilt the home court advantage on that one.
- 48:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I know.
- 48:38SPEAKER_01: Seriously, you're playing the neutral site in Dallas against Vandy.
- 48:43SPEAKER_01: So that's another good solid.
- 48:44SPEAKER_01: Vandy is not Vandy football.
- 48:46SPEAKER_01: Vandy basketball is pretty okay.
- 48:48SPEAKER_01: They're not bad.
- 48:50SPEAKER_01: So you got the battle for Atlantis, you got Butler, you got Vanderbilt, potentially Earl Roberts, and then you finish off with some cupcakes going into Big 12 play, Texas Arlington, Sam Houston, and then North Alabama.
- 49:00SPEAKER_01: So good non-conference overall for Grant's first year.
- 49:04SPEAKER_02: For sure.
- 49:05SPEAKER_02: Um, I I I I saw you tweet this football night, but is your excitement for basketball growing due to football's floundering?
- 49:15SPEAKER_01: No, because I don't have the same level of hype.
- 49:17SPEAKER_01: I just don't.
- 49:18SPEAKER_01: Like, I think we're gonna be I think we're gonna be a solid team, but I don't have a lot of expectations per se for this basketball season.
- 49:25SPEAKER_01: Like, if we go into the battle for Atlantis and lose to Villanova, I'm not gonna be super surprised, you know.
- 49:32SPEAKER_01: So I we always buy in as the season gets a little closer.
- 49:36SPEAKER_01: Basketball's still a little distance away, so I haven't like fully done my like you know, buy into this team yet.
- 49:43SPEAKER_01: But yeah, no, I obviously I look forward to basketball season, but there's still a lot of football to be played, man.
- 49:48SPEAKER_01: I'm still pretty hype.
- 49:49SPEAKER_01: The actually watching the Oregon game over again made me feel a little better.
- 49:53SPEAKER_01: Uh obviously, you hate to see those last few plays, but and you're sober.
- 49:58SPEAKER_01: And you're sober.
- 49:59SPEAKER_01: You brought you brought a top 10 team down to the wire.
- 50:02SPEAKER_01: That's a good opponent, man.
- 50:04SPEAKER_01: And you should take a little bit of good from that game.
- 50:07SPEAKER_01: I know it's frustrating.
- 50:08SPEAKER_01: I know you're 0-2, it's hard to see the silver lining, but there's a there's there's still a lot of football to be played.
- 50:14SPEAKER_02: Here we are about talking about football again.
- 50:16SPEAKER_02: What the heck's wrong with us?
- 50:17SPEAKER_02: But I I do want to I do want to add something to that.
- 50:19SPEAKER_02: It is interesting to see.
- 50:21SPEAKER_02: Like Red Raider fans, uh, you us included, I'm not I'm not saying that we're on this in this ivory tower or anything like that.
- 50:26SPEAKER_02: We're just as bad, we're just as crazy as all y'all.
- 50:29SPEAKER_02: Um Red Raider fans are acting like the sky is falling.
- 50:33SPEAKER_02: But you talk to anyone else that watched that game and they're impressed with Texas Tech.
- 50:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they're they're impressed, you know, with the atmosphere, and they're impressed with the way Texas Tech played, um, unless you're one of our rivals, of course.
- 50:44SPEAKER_02: But like any anyone you talk to that actually, you know, cares about the game, thought they uh those are a good game.
- 50:50SPEAKER_02: And you went up a team that's way that's on paper should be way better than you.
- 50:54SPEAKER_02: And you took them to the wire.
- 50:55SPEAKER_02: You should have beat them in many ways.
- 50:57SPEAKER_02: But so I I think I think it could take some sauce in that.
- 51:00SPEAKER_02: But moral victories obviously don't get you much at the end of the day.
- 51:03SPEAKER_02: But I like we keep saying, I just hope we pound Tarleton into a pulp.
- 51:07SPEAKER_02: But back to basketball.
- 51:09SPEAKER_02: I I know you said that you know you you don't quite have the same hype going into the season as you would before.
- 51:16SPEAKER_02: Um, but you say that, but at the same time, I I feel like there's a kind of a new sense of excitement wherever you're turning over a new coaching regimen that you're actually excited about.
- 51:25SPEAKER_02: So I think the season is exciting in that way, more so than just what you're gonna expect in wins and losses.
- 51:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think a lot of people are hyped about Grant McCastlin outside of Texas Tech circles.
- 51:37SPEAKER_01: I think a lot of um people that know ball per se in college basketball knows ball knowers, you know.
- 51:45SPEAKER_01: Grant McCasslin has something good going at Texas Tech.
- 51:48SPEAKER_01: I love the staff that he's built.
- 51:50SPEAKER_01: I can't say that enough times.
- 51:52SPEAKER_01: I am thrilled with the people that he has brought in to Lubbock to build up this program.
- 51:57SPEAKER_01: I just don't know if it necessarily happens in year one, and I think that's fine.
- 52:01SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 52:01SPEAKER_01: So I'm trying to look at a more leveled approach to basketball season and not expect the last few seasons, obviously not counting last year, um, for what Texas Tech basketball has been.
- 52:13SPEAKER_01: And if we're a tournament team, fantastic.
- 52:16SPEAKER_01: If we're not a tournament team, you know, I guess we'll see how the season goes before I make my true judgment on how I'm gonna feel.
- 52:22SPEAKER_02: But yeah, I was about to ask, let's uh let's get the way too early football season take on basketball.
- 52:27SPEAKER_02: Like, what's the barometer of success for you?
- 52:30SPEAKER_01: I think we'll be a tournament team.
- 52:31SPEAKER_02: You think so?
- 52:32SPEAKER_02: Okay, I think we will.
- 52:33SPEAKER_01: I think we'll be a tournament team.
- 52:34SPEAKER_01: I don't think we're gonna be potentially top half of the Big 12.
- 52:37SPEAKER_01: I think we'll be sneaking into the not sneaking into the tournament, but like, you know, at seven seed.
- 52:43SPEAKER_01: Sneaking in Big 12 potentially, yeah.
- 52:45SPEAKER_01: Sneaky, you get a couple games, you still make the USA one of the toughest places to play, and you try to win your home games.
- 52:52SPEAKER_01: But you know, I I'm if we don't make the tournament, I'm also gonna understand and not be complete doomer about it.
- 53:00SPEAKER_02: You would you be okay with going back to back NIL champs or NIT champs?
- 53:05SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 53:05SPEAKER_02: My bad, we are the NIL champs right now.
- 53:08SPEAKER_02: We're doing fine.
- 53:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we're fine in the event.
- 53:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, as much as you know, richer pro richer programs make fun of us for that.
- 53:16SPEAKER_02: We know buying our recruits.
- 53:17SPEAKER_02: Uh okay.
- 53:18SPEAKER_02: Um everybody buys recruits.
- 53:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, look at a mirror, dude.
- 53:25SPEAKER_02: Uh so um, but yeah, no, you so yeah, you're cool.
- 53:28SPEAKER_02: Are you cool with the go back to back in it, champs, McCasslin?
- 53:32SPEAKER_02: McGasslin.
- 53:33SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 53:34SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 53:35SPEAKER_02: I don't know at this point.
- 53:36SPEAKER_01: I don't know how I'm gonna feel.
- 53:37SPEAKER_01: I need to I need to do a deep dive into this team to see how good we can actually be before I start making deals.
- 53:41SPEAKER_02: You need you need the homework.
- 53:42SPEAKER_02: You need the homework.
- 53:44SPEAKER_02: You need you need to hit the books.
- 53:46SPEAKER_02: Something you did not do in college.
- 53:48SPEAKER_01: No, not one time.
- 53:49SPEAKER_01: Sorry, mom, C's, C's, get degrees, baby.
- 53:54SPEAKER_01: Let's go to picks.
- 53:55SPEAKER_01: You're beating me.
- 53:56SPEAKER_01: Let's do it of 23.
- 53:58SPEAKER_01: 25, 25 of 33 on the year for you, 22 of 33 on the year, brother.
- 54:04SPEAKER_01: For me, these games, we got a lot wrong last week.
- 54:10SPEAKER_01: We're not gonna go into it much.
- 54:12SPEAKER_01: Let's just get into week three because this is the last week of non-conference opponents for most teams.
- 54:18SPEAKER_01: I think some teams go into week four doing that.
- 54:20SPEAKER_01: There is the first Big 12 game of the year, Big 12 on Big 12 this week with TCU at Houston.
- 54:28SPEAKER_01: But let's start with the 11 a.m.
- 54:30SPEAKER_01: kickoffs and we'll go down.
- 54:32SPEAKER_01: Iowa State coming off a loss in the Psyhawk bowl at Ohio, not the Ohio State, the Ohio Bobcats.
- 54:43SPEAKER_01: Iowa State traveling to Ohio for this one.
- 54:45SPEAKER_01: Who you got?
- 54:46SPEAKER_02: I got the clones.
- 54:48SPEAKER_02: I got the clones.
- 54:49SPEAKER_02: You should you should be Ohio on the road.
- 54:51SPEAKER_02: Uh look, Textex should have beat Wyoming on the road, but I got the clones.
- 54:55SPEAKER_02: Game three.
- 54:56SPEAKER_02: They're but they're probably they're probably figuring things out.
- 54:58SPEAKER_02: I think they get the Bobcats.
- 54:59SPEAKER_02: What do you think?
- 55:00SPEAKER_01: Iowa State did not look good in the Cyhawk bowl.
- 55:03SPEAKER_01: They didn't.
- 55:04SPEAKER_01: Ohio looked pretty good in week zero against San Diego State.
- 55:08SPEAKER_01: They played him pretty close.
- 55:10SPEAKER_01: Ohio's supposed to be one of the better G5 teams this year.
- 55:13SPEAKER_01: I am taking the Bobcats.
- 55:16SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 55:17SPEAKER_02: Interesting, spicy.
- 55:18SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 55:18SPEAKER_01: I got I also got to catch up to you.
- 55:20SPEAKER_01: So I'm gonna try to be a little different on some of these.
- 55:22SPEAKER_01: But yeah, I'm taking I'm taking a chance here.
- 55:24SPEAKER_01: I think Cyclone Larry's gonna be upset after this week.
- 55:27SPEAKER_01: Ohio.
- 55:27SPEAKER_01: He's gonna taste his nuts at uh he he says that he hasn't done it yet, but we'll see.
- 55:32SPEAKER_01: We haven't seen the proof.
- 55:34unknown: Nope.
- 55:34SPEAKER_01: Put the proof in the pudding, Cyclone Larry.
- 55:37SPEAKER_01: That's all I'm saying.
- 55:39SPEAKER_01: LIU and Baylor.
- 55:40SPEAKER_01: Baylor having the more disappointing start to the year than Texas Tech.
- 55:45SPEAKER_01: L I U.
- 55:46SPEAKER_01: L I U.
- 55:48SPEAKER_01: I don't know where that is.
- 55:49SPEAKER_01: I don't know what that is, but they're going and they're playing Baylor in Waco.
- 55:55SPEAKER_02: I like how we don't know what this team is.
- 55:57SPEAKER_02: Just it's just L I U.
- 55:58SPEAKER_02: Just L I U.
- 55:59SPEAKER_01: L I U.
- 56:00SPEAKER_01: L.
- 56:00SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna go.
- 56:00SPEAKER_02: I'm a hot take.
- 56:01SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna go Baylor on this.
- 56:04SPEAKER_02: On this unknown team.
- 56:05SPEAKER_02: Baylor's.
- 56:06SPEAKER_02: Oh no, I know who it is.
- 56:07SPEAKER_02: It's Long Island.
- 56:09SPEAKER_02: Long Island Island, Long Island, dude.
- 56:12SPEAKER_02: Baylor in Waco, Texas is playing Long Island University.
- 56:16SPEAKER_02: Because I remember giving my Baylor alum friend crap for this, being like, what are y'all doing?
- 56:21SPEAKER_02: Out of all the FCS teams to play, Long Island?
- 56:24SPEAKER_02: I didn't even know they had a football team, but whatever.
- 56:26SPEAKER_02: Whatever.
- 56:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm going Bears.
- 56:29SPEAKER_01: Actually, the Ohio Bobcats just defeated Long Island with balanced offense, stingy defense in home opener, according to the journalism.
- 56:37SPEAKER_01: So yeah, I'm gonna take the Bears.
- 56:41SPEAKER_02: We spent way too long on that.
- 56:43SPEAKER_01: Pay State at Mizu, SEC Big 12.
- 56:47SPEAKER_01: Kind of SEC Big 12.
- 56:49SPEAKER_01: Who you got?
- 56:51SPEAKER_02: I got the cats, dude.
- 56:52SPEAKER_02: The cats are looking solid.
- 56:54SPEAKER_02: Mizou, not so much.
- 56:55SPEAKER_02: I'm going cats all day.
- 56:57SPEAKER_01: Same.
- 56:57SPEAKER_01: Mizoo just played a tight one to Middle Tennessee.
- 57:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's a bad look.
- 57:04SPEAKER_01: 23-19 win to Middle Tennessee.
- 57:10SPEAKER_01: Is Mizou the most forgettable team in college football?
- 57:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they're really, they're really up there.
- 57:19SPEAKER_02: Because they're they're they're I forget about them.
- 57:22SPEAKER_01: I forget that they exist because they're not competitive.
- 57:25SPEAKER_01: The only thing that keeps them relevant is their coach says some dumb stuff every once in a while that gets a headline.
- 57:30SPEAKER_01: But no, Mizu, Mizu fans are just in just nowhere right now.
- 57:37SPEAKER_01: Purgatory.
- 57:38SPEAKER_01: Complete purgatory.
- 57:39SPEAKER_01: My Blue Raiders blew it.
- 57:40SPEAKER_01: I will also take K-State in this game.
- 57:43SPEAKER_02: My my former residents of Murfreesboro.
- 57:46SPEAKER_01: Oklahoma traveling very far to Tulsa to play the Golden Hurricanes.
- 57:53SPEAKER_02: Who you got?
- 57:54SPEAKER_02: I'm being boring, man.
- 57:55SPEAKER_02: It's it's gotta be the Sooners.
- 57:57SPEAKER_02: Tulsa stinks, don't they?
- 57:59SPEAKER_02: I haven't looked too much into Tulsa.
- 58:01SPEAKER_02: See, the problem with tech stinking so much is I hate looking at college football when I normally would be.
- 58:06SPEAKER_02: And I'll be like engaged with like a team like Tulsa, but I don't.
- 58:10SPEAKER_02: And college football is dead to me right now.
- 58:12SPEAKER_02: So but I'm gonna go, I'm gonna go the Sooners right now.
- 58:15SPEAKER_02: And the Sooners look like they're just you know, they're they're humming along.
- 58:18SPEAKER_02: Looks like they're they're pretty solid right now.
- 58:20SPEAKER_01: Tulsa fresh off a 43 to 10 loss to the Washington Huskies, who are granted a top 10 team in the country right now.
- 58:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 58:28SPEAKER_01: So, you know, I I no, I don't I don't think Tulsa's gonna beat Oklahoma.
- 58:32SPEAKER_02: No.
- 58:33SPEAKER_02: Uh and it's gonna be uh it's gonna be nothing but red in their stadium.
- 58:36SPEAKER_01: Speaking of the basketball team playing Villanova, apparently they have a football team.
- 58:40SPEAKER_01: Villanova traveling to Central Florida to play the Knights.
- 58:46SPEAKER_01: Who you got?
- 58:47SPEAKER_02: Dude, the Knights are doing it right now, man.
- 58:50SPEAKER_02: The Knights have got it together.
- 58:51SPEAKER_02: The Gus Bus is working.
- 58:53SPEAKER_02: So I'm thinking I'm thinking the Knights all day.
- 58:56SPEAKER_02: I'm going it sounds like I'm just going to Big 12 slate right now.
- 58:59SPEAKER_01: I hate to burst your bubble.
- 59:01SPEAKER_01: Starting quarterback, John Reese Pumley, Plumley, Plumley, out several weeks with an injury.
- 59:08SPEAKER_01: They will not have their starting quarterback.
- 59:10SPEAKER_01: They're still gonna beat Villanova.
- 59:11SPEAKER_01: UCF is gonna win this game.
- 59:14SPEAKER_01: He was looking at the U of Ohio, Miami of Ohio, traveling to Cincinnati to play the Bearcats.
- 59:23SPEAKER_01: Who you got?
- 59:24SPEAKER_02: I got the Cats, I got the Bearcats.
- 59:26SPEAKER_02: Bearcats kind of uh did uh did a surprising thing for a lot of people and beat Pitt.
- 59:31SPEAKER_02: So uh I think if they could take care of that a P5 team like that, I'm sure they can take care of a decent to bad G5 team, no problem at home.
- 59:38SPEAKER_02: I did take more of Pitt stinks versus Sincy is good at the I'm not saying since he's good, but obviously since he's uh competent enough.
- 59:46SPEAKER_01: Yes, since he is gonna win this game as well.
- 59:49SPEAKER_01: South Alabama at Oklahoma State, you taking the Cowboys?
- 59:52SPEAKER_02: Ooh, uh I mean, yeah, I'm gonna take the Cowboys here, but then not a very not an ultra competent one.
- 59:58SPEAKER_02: The boy the Cowboys been a little shaky, a little shaky.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_02: And South Alabama is not a pushover team either.
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_02: At least they haven't been late lately.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_02: So uh, but I'm gonna go Cowboys.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_02: You know, it's uh at home.
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_02: I don't think it's gonna be a blowout.
- 1:00:11SPEAKER_02: I think it's gonna be like a one-possession game, but I think the Cowboys will do it, yeah.
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_01: I will take the same backyard brawl pit at West Virginia in Morgantown.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_01: The climb, or are you taking Pitt?
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_02: Oh man, dude.
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_02: This one's actually the probably the toughest one.
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_02: Um I'm gonna be an anti-climb truster.
- 1:00:36SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna switch it up.
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna go with each shit pit.
- 1:00:41SPEAKER_01: If Pitt wins this game, does Neil Brown get fired?
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_02: No.
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_02: I think midseason is the time.
- 1:00:53SPEAKER_01: I am trusting the climb, and I'm taking the Mountaineers in this game.
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_01: That is it, they didn't beat Penn State.
- 1:01:00SPEAKER_01: I get it.
- 1:01:05SPEAKER_01: They're gonna be pit.
- 1:01:07SPEAKER_01: I think Pitt's pretty bad.
- 1:01:08SPEAKER_01: So West Virginia in this one.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_01: I think the home advantage is gonna help them out.
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_02: But we got we gotta be different.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_02: You can't everyone can't be the same.
- 1:01:16SPEAKER_01: We gotta be different.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, this is another tough one to choose.
- 1:01:19SPEAKER_01: BYU traveling to Arkansas to play the Razorbacks.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_01: What you got?
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_02: Razorbacks.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_01: Ooh.
- 1:01:29SPEAKER_02: BYU's got some question marks, dog.
- 1:01:31SPEAKER_01: I thought you were gonna be a homer.
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_01: I thought you were gonna take BYU.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_02: My my BYU Storm and Mormons.
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_02: Look, they're BYU's defense looks pretty solid, but I I just I think the Arkansas is just gonna be too much for them right now.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_02: I think BYU's got some ways to go.
- 1:01:48SPEAKER_02: And Arkansas, you know, it's uh doing fairly decent that I know of under Pittman.
- 1:01:52SPEAKER_02: So I think I don't think it's gonna be a blowout or anything, but I think yeah, I think the Hogs will get it.
- 1:01:56SPEAKER_01: You they're they're coming off a 28-6 win against Kent State, Arkansas is the golden flashes, the Nick Sabans.
- 1:02:04SPEAKER_01: I don't know if they're having a terrific start to the year, but they're both 2-0 going into this one.
- 1:02:09SPEAKER_01: I think the home field does it again.
- 1:02:11SPEAKER_01: Arkansas, I will have beating the Cougs.
- 1:02:15SPEAKER_01: TCU at TCU at Houston, the first true Big 12 game of the year.
- 1:02:21SPEAKER_01: Big 12 on Big 12, TCU traveling to Houston.
- 1:02:25SPEAKER_01: Who you got?
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_02: Houston's gonna die.
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_01: You don't believe it?
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_01: You don't believe in Johnny?
- 1:02:34SPEAKER_02: Dude, how do you go and just get walloped by Rice?
- 1:02:37SPEAKER_02: Look, I know that the final score is pretty close, but for a while there it was not.
- 1:02:41SPEAKER_02: And they just they never caught back up.
- 1:02:44SPEAKER_02: They got walloped by rice at the end of the day, and rice stinks, rice plugs, dude.
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_01: JT Daniels, five-star recruit out of high school.
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_01: Played at USC and Georgia and West Virginia.
- 1:02:58SPEAKER_02: The lauded rice.
- 1:02:59SPEAKER_01: And now Rice.
- 1:03:00SPEAKER_02: He was not a climb truster, he doesn't deserve any of this.
- 1:03:03SPEAKER_01: It's true.
- 1:03:03SPEAKER_01: I'm taking the Koogs.
- 1:03:05SPEAKER_01: What Houston?
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_01: What are you doing?
- 1:03:08SPEAKER_01: Houston taking them down in Houston.
- 1:03:11SPEAKER_01: It's gonna happen.
- 1:03:12SPEAKER_01: Donnie gonna go in and beat the Horn Frogs, Sonny Dykes, down bad, 0-1 in Big 12 play.
- 1:03:20SPEAKER_02: Look, that I would be I will be hoping for that because you know me.
- 1:03:24SPEAKER_02: I low-key like Dana.
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_02: I love his greasy ass drinking a Red Bull on the sidelines, looking like an unemployed dad at a golf course.
- 1:03:33SPEAKER_02: But dude, I just I I cannot trust Holge right now.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_01: Sorry, I just trust Dana too much, I guess.
- 1:03:43SPEAKER_01: No, this is this is more Donovan Smith love than anything.
- 1:03:47SPEAKER_01: I know he didn't have a good game.
- 1:03:48SPEAKER_01: I know they just lost a rice.
- 1:03:50SPEAKER_01: They're at home.
- 1:03:51SPEAKER_01: Bounce back game, baby.
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_01: Houston Coog's whose house?
- 1:03:55SPEAKER_01: Coog's house.
- 1:04:00SPEAKER_01: Wyoming and Texas, I got Texas, so you got freak.
- 1:04:04SPEAKER_02: My heart is really wanting me to say Wyoming has the opportunity to do this the funniest thing in history right now.
- 1:04:11SPEAKER_02: They do so beating Texas Tech and UT in one go would be very funny for the Cowboys.
- 1:04:19SPEAKER_02: And very funny for us and the Longhorns.
- 1:04:21SPEAKER_02: It would be quite the spectacle.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_02: But no, there's just no logical way I can talk myself into the Cowboys beating the Longhorns.
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_02: Just like how I felt on week one with us.
- 1:04:33SPEAKER_02: And even if we played again, I'd have a hard time logically convincing myself that Wyoming's gonna win.
- 1:04:38SPEAKER_02: But yeah, no, I'm going, I'm going ET.
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_01: Moving on.
- 1:04:43SPEAKER_01: Kansas at Nevada, traveling to Nevada, the Jayhawks.
- 1:04:48SPEAKER_01: Jalen Daniels is back.
- 1:04:50SPEAKER_01: They're playing pretty good.
- 1:04:51SPEAKER_01: Who you got?
- 1:04:53SPEAKER_02: Bro, I'm I'm riding the Jayhawks here.
- 1:04:55SPEAKER_02: They they seem to have caught some lightning in a bottle, and I'm not saying it's gonna be toppling down any conferences anytime soon, but I think it's enough to zap the wolf back in Nevada over there in Reno.
- 1:05:05SPEAKER_02: Okay, fair.
- 1:05:06SPEAKER_01: You yeah, I'm taking the Jayhawks.
- 1:05:08SPEAKER_01: I think they're gonna win.
- 1:05:09SPEAKER_01: Uh, not much to say.
- 1:05:11SPEAKER_01: I don't know much about Nevada.
- 1:05:12SPEAKER_01: I know that Kansas looked pretty good and they finally got their quarterback back.
- 1:05:16SPEAKER_01: So you know, I'm gonna I'm gonna go for a 3-0 Kansas.
- 1:05:19SPEAKER_01: Burnt is down, dude.
- 1:05:20SPEAKER_02: Burnt down bad.
- 1:05:21SPEAKER_01: Burnt's down bad.
- 1:05:22SPEAKER_01: Illinois stinks.
- 1:05:24SPEAKER_02: They're you so used to it, though.
- 1:05:25SPEAKER_02: I know that's rich coming from a tech fan, but like, dude, they are so rich.
- 1:05:30SPEAKER_02: They are so used to stinking.
- 1:05:31SPEAKER_02: Like, like, I know we've stunked this past decade, but they've they've they are a history of stink.
- 1:05:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's true.
- 1:05:37SPEAKER_01: It's true.
- 1:05:38SPEAKER_01: All right, we had three differences there, just enough for me to catch back up to you for some next week.
- 1:05:44SPEAKER_02: Sounds good, sir.
- 1:05:44SPEAKER_01: Let's go to the pack schools, the new Big 12 starting next year.
- 1:05:50SPEAKER_01: Quickly, Weeber State at Utah.
- 1:05:52SPEAKER_01: Who you got?
- 1:05:53SPEAKER_01: Uh Utah.
- 1:05:54SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:05:55SPEAKER_02: I couldn't tell you where Weeber State is.
- 1:05:57SPEAKER_02: I think it's in Utah, but
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_01: All I know is that Damian Lillard went to Weaver State.
- 1:06:02SPEAKER_01: That's all I know about that university, school, college.
- 1:06:06SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 1:06:07SPEAKER_02: I always confuse them with Davidson, where Steph went.
- 1:06:10SPEAKER_01: Steph Curry.
- 1:06:11SPEAKER_01: That's in North Carolina.
- 1:06:12SPEAKER_02: Okay, because they have like really similar-looking logos.
- 1:06:15SPEAKER_02: Look at them after this.
- 1:06:16SPEAKER_01: Davidson actually just switched their logo and it looks bad.
- 1:06:19SPEAKER_01: So I saw that on social media the other day.
- 1:06:22SPEAKER_01: Colorado State at Colorado.
- 1:06:24SPEAKER_01: Rivalry game.
- 1:06:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, rivalry games.
- 1:06:26SPEAKER_01: Rams at the Buffs.
- 1:06:28SPEAKER_01: Who you got?
- 1:06:30SPEAKER_02: I'm going to go buffs, but I think it'll be a pretty close game, actually.
- 1:06:33SPEAKER_02: I don't I don't I don't think I think Dion's really got the train chugging along over there in Boulder.
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_02: But I think a rivalry game, I think it's going to get a little weird, but I think the Buffs will win.
- 1:06:43SPEAKER_01: I agree with you.
- 1:06:44SPEAKER_01: That team is so much fun.
- 1:06:46SPEAKER_01: It's so much fun.
- 1:06:48SPEAKER_02: America's team.
- 1:06:48SPEAKER_02: America's team.
- 1:06:49SPEAKER_01: America's team right now.
- 1:06:50SPEAKER_01: Coach Bryan got it going.
- 1:06:51SPEAKER_01: Colorado wins this one.
- 1:06:53SPEAKER_01: Fresno State at Arizona State.
- 1:06:57SPEAKER_02: Ooh, Fresno State all day.
- 1:06:59SPEAKER_02: Bulldogs for sure.
- 1:07:00SPEAKER_01: I thought it was going to be different.
- 1:07:02SPEAKER_02: Nah, easily Bulldogs.
- 1:07:03SPEAKER_02: Fresno State usually has a pretty solid squad.
- 1:07:05SPEAKER_02: I had it written down over there.
- 1:07:07SPEAKER_02: Arizona State stinks.
- 1:07:08SPEAKER_01: Yes, they're bad.
- 1:07:09SPEAKER_01: They're down bad.
- 1:07:10SPEAKER_01: We've said it last week and the week prior.
- 1:07:12SPEAKER_01: Arizona State's going to lose a lot of games this year.
- 1:07:15SPEAKER_01: Fresno's going to go into Tempi and win this one.
- 1:07:18SPEAKER_01: I agree fully.
- 1:07:19SPEAKER_01: Last game.
- 1:07:21SPEAKER_01: Well, no, because I guess we still picked the tech game.
- 1:07:24SPEAKER_01: UTEP at Arizona.
- 1:07:26SPEAKER_02: Who you got Oh, Arizona.
- 1:07:28SPEAKER_02: Arizona.
- 1:07:29SPEAKER_02: For sure.
- 1:07:30SPEAKER_02: Arizona coming off.
- 1:07:31SPEAKER_02: Blows ass, dude.
- 1:07:32SPEAKER_01: Arizona coming off an L to Mississippi State in Starkville.
- 1:07:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, in Starksville.
- 1:07:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:07:39SPEAKER_02: But I think Jed Fish is getting something going over there in Tucson.
- 1:07:43SPEAKER_02: I think I think he's on the right path.
- 1:07:44SPEAKER_02: And but I think I think they're going to get right at home.
- 1:07:47SPEAKER_01: I agree with you.
- 1:07:49SPEAKER_01: I also went with Arizona.
- 1:07:50SPEAKER_01: Alright.
- 1:07:51SPEAKER_01: I don't see a line for Charlton State.
- 1:07:53SPEAKER_01: I'm not even going to pretend uh to pick any sort of line.
- 1:07:59SPEAKER_01: Is what's tech is tech gonna win and what's the score?
- 1:08:04SPEAKER_02: Tech is gonna win by five touchdowns.
- 1:08:10SPEAKER_01: It'd be a little different.
- 1:08:12SPEAKER_01: Tech is gonna win by four touchdowns.
- 1:08:16SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:08:16SPEAKER_02: Alright.
- 1:08:17SPEAKER_02: So if it's less, you win.
- 1:08:18SPEAKER_02: If it's more, I win.
- 1:08:19SPEAKER_02: Sure.
- 1:08:20SPEAKER_01: We'll go with that.
- 1:08:21SPEAKER_01: Texas Tech, gonna win.
- 1:08:23SPEAKER_01: Please, God.
- 1:08:27SPEAKER_01: Give me something good.
- 1:08:29SPEAKER_01: Even though I'm not gonna be able to watch it because I'm gonna be at a wedding this weekend.
- 1:08:32SPEAKER_01: But dude, what?
- 1:08:33SPEAKER_01: I mean, I have all the games on the screen.
- 1:08:35SPEAKER_02: Out of all the games, out of out of all the games, we say that, but maybe missing the Wyoming loss would have felt a little better.
- 1:08:44SPEAKER_02: So yeah.
- 1:08:45SPEAKER_01: I mean, anytime you miss an L is a good thing, and you don't have to watch it.
- 1:08:50SPEAKER_01: But I'm glad this is happening when it's happening.
- 1:08:54SPEAKER_01: We're also going to a wedding later in the year.
- 1:08:56SPEAKER_01: I think it's during the Houston game.
- 1:08:59SPEAKER_01: Oh, dang.
- 1:09:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:09:00SPEAKER_01: These people.
- 1:09:01SPEAKER_01: I you're you're one of them.
- 1:09:04SPEAKER_01: Don't schedule.
- 1:09:05SPEAKER_01: You're one of them.
- 1:09:06SPEAKER_01: You're one of them.
- 1:09:07SPEAKER_01: Don't schedule a wedding during football season.
- 1:09:08SPEAKER_01: We all know this.
- 1:09:10SPEAKER_02: I I know, I know.
- 1:09:11SPEAKER_02: But the having having Labor Day weekend is just too tempting for a wedding.
- 1:09:14SPEAKER_02: Whatever.
- 1:09:15SPEAKER_01: Whatever.
- 1:09:16SPEAKER_01: Biggest L you've done ever.
- 1:09:19SPEAKER_01: Not really.
- 1:09:20SPEAKER_01: Ever.
- 1:09:20SPEAKER_01: Well, that's I'm I'm riding high.
- 1:09:21SPEAKER_01: That's what I'm saying.
- 1:09:22SPEAKER_01: No, you ate a whole you ate a whole onion to save 10 bucks on bills one time.
- 1:09:26SPEAKER_02: So make sure you tell every literally everyone we know that I ate a raw onion.
- 1:09:29SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:09:30SPEAKER_02: I do.
- 1:09:30SPEAKER_01: Please tell everyone you meet.
- 1:09:32SPEAKER_01: Like I do.
- 1:09:33SPEAKER_01: That's like my first thing.
- 1:09:34SPEAKER_01: That's my that's my way to get into a new.
- 1:09:37SPEAKER_02: I'll start.
- 1:09:37SPEAKER_02: I'll start bringing up how you ate a whole little C's in one sitting.
- 1:09:40SPEAKER_02: And didn't it take the next five hours?
- 1:09:42SPEAKER_01: That's impressive.
- 1:09:44SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:09:44SPEAKER_01: Eating a whole little C in one go is impressive.
- 1:09:48SPEAKER_02: Oh my god.
- 1:09:49SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 1:09:49SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 1:09:51SPEAKER_02: Song of the Week.
- 1:09:52SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 1:09:53SPEAKER_01: What you got?
- 1:09:54SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 1:09:54SPEAKER_02: So I probably a little waited a little too long to start celebrating this.
- 1:09:58SPEAKER_02: Um, but Turnpike is back, baby.
- 1:10:01SPEAKER_02: Turnpike Troubadours are back.
- 1:10:03SPEAKER_02: Probably the most beloved red dirt band of this past decade is back in action and they have a wonderful new album.
- 1:10:09SPEAKER_02: Fairly low key compared to the last ones in terms of uh how hard they go, but you know, but easier on the ears.
- 1:10:16SPEAKER_02: So the song I'm gonna go with, I didn't realize it was a single because I waited until I got my album to listen to all the other singles past the first one that he dropped.
- 1:10:24SPEAKER_02: Um, but I it's too good for me to not to mention.
- 1:10:27SPEAKER_02: It's gonna be brought me by the Turnpike Troubadours and Cat in the Rain album.
- 1:10:33SPEAKER_02: It's just a beautiful song.
- 1:10:35SPEAKER_02: You know, they don't do love songs very often, but it's just it's a happy love song about you know remembering uh the woman you love, you know, and that you know how she's the only one for you.
- 1:10:44SPEAKER_02: It's a play on the words of uh dance with the woman that dance with the person that brought you.
- 1:10:48SPEAKER_02: It's an old saying.
- 1:10:49SPEAKER_02: Um, and it's just about you know staying loyal to your lady and loving her.
- 1:10:54SPEAKER_02: So I think she's just a really fun song.
- 1:11:08SPEAKER_01: Okay, a little turnpike action rolling on the song of the week.
- 1:11:12SPEAKER_01: My song of the week is it's unfortunate that this artist is going to be my song of the week during such a low point in tech football, but I can't help it because when I was watching Tyler Shuck go down on that last play and throw the ball right to the Oregon defender and him run back, all I was thinking of was give it away by George Strait.
- 1:11:36SPEAKER_01: George Strait, the first George Strait drop?
- 1:11:39SPEAKER_01: Or no, I think we did it Chris.
- 1:11:41SPEAKER_01: No, we've done we've done it before.
- 1:11:42SPEAKER_01: Okay, that's why I didn't feel as bad.
- 1:11:44SPEAKER_01: But it was I just heard George Strait give it away right as that ball was leaving his hand and was gonna stab me in the heart watching on my TV screen.
- 1:11:57SPEAKER_01: I'm sure it was worse for a lot of you that were actually at the game.
- 1:12:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I can't imagine the pain I would feel in the stands, but it's a great song.
- 1:12:07SPEAKER_01: Other than that, it's a great song.
- 1:12:09SPEAKER_01: Give it away, George Strait Song of the Week.
- 1:12:12SPEAKER_01: That picture from our honeymoon, that not in Frisco Bay, just give it away.
- 1:12:20SPEAKER_02: She said, give it away.
- 1:12:24SPEAKER_02: Definitely one of his greatest of all time, without question.
- 1:12:28SPEAKER_02: I that and just it's so funny because that's absolutely not his life.
- 1:12:32SPEAKER_02: Uh he he married his high school sweetheart, has been married to her happily for years, you know, since so um, but no, that a really great one, man.
- 1:12:40SPEAKER_02: Really sad.
- 1:12:41SPEAKER_02: Thanks for balancing out my uh happy with the sad, bro.
- 1:12:44SPEAKER_02: Appreciate that.
- 1:12:45SPEAKER_01: Well, hey, we've had a lot of happy and sad.
