production. Welcome to 70x80, the section of
• 1:09
7080 .it that deepens the topics discussed on
• 1:12
the portal. I'm with the journalist Enzo Mauri,
• 1:15
who introduces the today's topic. Good morning,
• 1:18
today I'm talking to you about a well -known
• 1:19
character of Carosello. In 1966, on the notes
• 1:23
of El Sigaronno, the Venezuelan musician Yugo
• 1:26
Blanco, he produced on Carosello, for the Pannolini,
• 1:28
Lines, one of the most popular characters of
• 1:31
the advertising content, the hippopotamus Pippo.
• 1:34
Children, here's Pippo! No! The first series
• 1:58
of advertising, created by Armando Testa's agency,
• 2:01
went viral with the same protagonist until 1976.
• 2:05
The 12 -odd spots saw the direction of Corrado
• 2:08
Farina, Ezio Perardi, and Piero Benedetti. Then,
• 2:11
with the advent of color in TV, young fans will
• 2:13
discover that the hippopotamus Pippo was blue,
• 2:15
like the hippopotamus of the ancient Egyptian
• 2:18
ceramics. The sculptor Santo Aligo told in an
• 2:33
interview that the first copy of the pupazzo
• 2:35
was created by the artist Piero Gilardi. That
• 2:38
first specimen, made in polyurethane and expanded
• 2:40
and composed of two pieces, did not move, so
• 2:43
after the first carousels it was abandoned. After
• 2:45
a series of attempts went to waste and with the
• 2:47
help of the photographer Antonello Beniamino,
• 2:50
with the ball of mechanics, Santo Aligo made
• 2:52
the hippopotamus Pippo that we all know. Grazie,
• 3:00
bambini. And now an information for the mother.
• 3:04
The hippopotamus had two people inside him. The
• 3:07
one positioned in the front had the task of moving
• 3:10
the eyelids, ears, mouth and feet in front. The
• 3:13
other person, placed at the back of the previous
• 3:15
one, had instead the task of moving only the
• 3:18
posterior feet. Subsequently, due to his deterioration,
• 3:21
Santo Aligo told him to be charged with making
• 3:24
a new hippopotamus with the most resistant skin
• 3:27
thanks to a particular blue paint. This child
• 3:30
has eight days. In 1972, a third version of Pippo
• 3:48
was created by the screenwriter Silvio Conti
• 3:50
and Walter Danzero, the latter employed in the
• 3:53
creation. The character of the advertising Lines
• 3:56
had the voice of Carlo Bonomi, among the dubbers
• 3:59
of Caroselli. famous. His, for example, is that
• 4:01
of the giant Amico in the Ferrero advertising.
• 4:04
The hippopotamus Pippo's pupazzo became a very
• 4:07
ambitious toy, it was also put on the market
• 4:08
  a 16 .5 cm high version, 31 cm long and 15 cm
• 4:14
deep. Thanks to Enzo Mauri for the today's theme,
