- 0:01Speaker 1: Why on Sky News.
- 0:03Speaker 2: This is Sharry, Thanks Andrew. Good evening.
- 0:08Speaker 3: Iran accused of unprecedented attacks in Australia. Their ambassador expelled.
- 0:14Speaker 3: I'll discuss these dramatic developments with Mikaylia Cash and we'll
- 0:17Speaker 3: get reaction from the Adas Synagogue in Melbourne. Elon Levy
- 0:21Speaker 3: will also join me live from Israel. A manhunt is
- 0:25Speaker 3: tonight underway for the alleged killer of two police officers.
- 0:29Speaker 3: We'll get the latest on this tragic shootout with our
- 0:33Speaker 3: reporter at the scene, and despite her best attempts, Susan
- 0:37Speaker 3: Lee can no longer ignore the glaring issue tearing apart
- 0:41Speaker 3: the Coalition net zero. I'll speak with Holly Hughes, Camer
- 0:45Speaker 3: Milner and James Willis a little later, but first tonight
- 0:49Speaker 3: to the bombshell news that Iran is behind two major
- 0:54Speaker 3: anti Semitic attacks in Australia, the fire bombings of a
- 0:58Speaker 3: Melbourne synagogue and a Sydney Jewish Delhi. The attacks on
- 1:02Speaker 3: the Adas Israel Synagogue and the Lewis Continental Kitchen shook
- 1:07Speaker 3: the Australian Jewish community, sparking fear and anxiety. Yet some
- 1:13Speaker 3: sections of the media, police and even politicians gas lit
- 1:18Speaker 3: Australians absurdly claiming the anti Semitism crisis was a hoax
- 1:23Speaker 3: and that there was no evidence hatred of Jews was
- 1:26Speaker 3: the motivation for these attacks.
- 1:29Speaker 2: That was utterly wrong.
- 1:32Speaker 3: Australia's intelligence agencies told the federal government just yesterday that
- 1:38Speaker 3: Iran was ultimately behind these violent terror attacks.
- 1:43Speaker 2: In the face of these.
- 1:44Speaker 3: Chilling developments, the Albanese government had no option but to
- 1:49Speaker 3: act today, listing the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a
- 1:53Speaker 3: terrorist organization.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Despite refusing to do so for more.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Than two years, AZIO has now gathered enough credible intelligence
- 2:05Speaker 1: to reach a deeply disturbing conclusion that the Iranian government
- 2:10Speaker 1: directed at least two of these attacks. Iran has sought
- 2:15Speaker 1: to disguise its involvement, but ASIO assesses it was behind
- 2:18Speaker 1: the attacks on the Lewis Continental Kitchen in Sydney on
- 2:23Speaker 1: October twenty last year and the Adas Israel Synagogue in
- 2:27Speaker 1: Melbourne on December sixth last year.
- 2:31Speaker 3: The Albanese government has now expelled the Iranian ambassador and
- 2:36Speaker 3: three other officials as well also suspended the Australian embassy
- 2:40Speaker 3: in Tehran. This is the first time in the post
- 2:43Speaker 3: war period that Australia has expelled an ambassador, ASIO Director
- 2:49Speaker 3: General Mike Burgas, who has done an absolutely brilliant job.
- 2:53Speaker 3: He said his organization is still investigating whether Iran is
- 2:57Speaker 3: also behind other and his semitic attacks.
- 3:02Speaker 4: We have investigated dozens of incidents targeting Jewish communities, places
- 3:06Speaker 4: of worship, businesses and prominent individuals. ASIO now assesses the
- 3:12Speaker 4: Iranian government directed at least two and likely more attacks
- 3:16Speaker 4: on Jewish interests in Australia. It goes without saying the
- 3:21Speaker 4: Iran's actions are utterly unacceptable. They put lives at risk,
- 3:25Speaker 4: they terrified the community, and they tour at our social fabric.
- 3:30Speaker 3: Now, Burgess made two important points today, firstly that Iran
- 3:34Speaker 3: did not conduct every attack and also that this does
- 3:39Speaker 3: not mean there's no anti semitism in Australia.
- 3:43Speaker 4: But I want to stress we do not believe the
- 3:45Speaker 4: regime is responsible for every act of anti semitism in Australia.
- 3:51Speaker 3: And he had to make that point because you can
- 3:53Speaker 3: already imagine how the left media would try to incorrectly
- 3:57Speaker 3: interpret these developments. We saw a Channel nine journalists today
- 4:02Speaker 3: bizarrely try to suggest that Natan Yahoo should apologize to ALBANIZI,
- 4:08Speaker 3: I mean, honestly, it's utterly ludicrous. Now Burgess has strongly
- 4:13Speaker 3: warned that anti Semitism is the number one threat to
- 4:16Speaker 3: life in our country. Iran is one part of the problem,
- 4:21Speaker 3: not the full extent of it, and today Burgess explained
- 4:24Speaker 3: how Iran had tried to hide its involvement with a
- 4:28Speaker 3: complex web of proxies.
- 4:31Speaker 4: Our painstaking investigation uncovered and unpicked the links between the
- 4:35Speaker 4: alleged crimes and the commanders in Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard
- 4:39Speaker 4: Corps the IRGC. The IERGC used a complex web of
- 4:44Speaker 4: proxies to hide its involvement. This is the sort of
- 4:48Speaker 4: obfuscation and boundary blurring I warned about earlier this year.
- 4:53Speaker 3: And we get more detail on this from Jeff Chambers
- 4:55Speaker 3: in The Australian Tonight. He reports that unraveling this comple
- 5:00Speaker 3: x web involved in encrypted communications, cryptocurrency and financial transactions
- 5:06Speaker 3: criss crossing the globe. He writes this involved cracking anonymizing technology,
- 5:12Speaker 3: including dedicated encrypted communication devices, which was used to coordinate
- 5:17Speaker 3: the Iranian backed attacks. He also says that investigators focused
- 5:22Speaker 3: on young criminals based in Australia who were actively recruited,
- 5:26Speaker 3: radicalized online and encouraged to commit anti Semitic attacks. The
- 5:33Speaker 3: forensic investigation, which was supported by five I SED security partners,
- 5:37Speaker 3: including US intelligence agencies, was built around.
- 5:41Speaker 2: The need to gather hard evidence.
- 5:46Speaker 3: Now you have to say, as you sit here tonight,
- 5:48Speaker 3: thank goodness, there are still grown ups like Mike Burgess
- 5:51Speaker 3: steering our national security and trying.
- 5:54Speaker 2: To keep us safe.
- 5:56Speaker 3: And with this dire warning from Burgess, the albanezy Gu
- 6:00Speaker 3: government was forced to take action. The Prime Minister said
- 6:04Speaker 3: today that Iran's aggression would not be tolerated.
- 6:08Speaker 1: These were extraordinary and dangerous acts of aggression orchestrated by
- 6:15Speaker 1: a foreign nation on Australian soil. They were attempts to
- 6:20Speaker 1: undermine social cohesion and so discord in our community. It
- 6:26Speaker 1: is totally unacceptable and the Australian government is taking strong
- 6:29Speaker 1: and decisive action in response. A short time ago we
- 6:33Speaker 1: informed the Iranian ambassador to Australia that he would be expelled.
- 6:38Speaker 1: We have suspended operations at our embassy in Tehran and
- 6:42Speaker 1: all our diplomats are now safe in a third country.
- 6:47Speaker 3: So the government will now list the IRGC as a
- 6:50Speaker 3: terrorist organization. But it's something it should have done a
- 6:54Speaker 3: long time ago. The undeniable truth is that the Albanezy
- 6:59Speaker 3: government was very slow to act on the grave threat
- 7:03Speaker 3: Iran posers. It has faced repeated calls from the Coalition
- 7:08Speaker 3: and the Jewish community.
- 7:09Speaker 2: To list the IIGC as a terrorist.
- 7:11Speaker 3: Organization, also to expel the ambassador, but it's refused to
- 7:16Speaker 3: do so. And this is also despite a recommendation from
- 7:20Speaker 3: a Senate committee back in early twenty twenty three, and
- 7:23Speaker 3: other countries like Canada and the US have also listed
- 7:28Speaker 3: the IRGC. Andrew Wallace made this point when he was
- 7:32Speaker 3: speaking with Ker and Gilbert a bit earlier.
- 7:35Speaker 5: Senior Coalition members have been calling for the IRGC to
- 7:39Speaker 5: be listed as a terrorist organization for more than two
- 7:43Speaker 5: years and the government has repeatedly said, not going to happen.
- 7:47Speaker 5: It can't happen under the Crimes Act. We have said repeatedly, well,
- 7:51Speaker 5: if the legislation needs changing, then we will support that,
- 7:55Speaker 5: and the government has never brought that legislation through.
- 7:58Speaker 2: But now they are.
- 8:00Speaker 5: They've listed the IRGC under the legislation that they say
- 8:04Speaker 5: couldn't or didn't enable them to do it. So you know,
- 8:08Speaker 5: there are questions that need to be asked here of
- 8:10Speaker 5: the Prime Minister, Pennywong and the Home Affairs.
- 8:13Speaker 3: Minister, and I heard Julian Lisa speak about this with
- 8:17Speaker 3: Steve Price earlier and he was truly angry about it.
- 8:20Speaker 3: You very rarely see Julian Lisa a angry Now. Phil
- 8:24Speaker 3: Kourry from the finn Review asked the Prime Minister about
- 8:27Speaker 3: this today and alb and easy of Cost just brushed
- 8:30Speaker 3: it off.
- 8:31Speaker 6: Your government has face calls in the past from the
- 8:34Speaker 6: opposition note to list the IRGC is a terrorist outfit
- 8:37Speaker 6: and to expel the ambassador, and you've resisted it on
- 8:40Speaker 6: the grounds that it's important to have a diplomatic relationship
- 8:44Speaker 6: with Iran, if only for the intelligence benefits through the
- 8:46Speaker 6: Five Eyes and so forth. Is it now the case
- 8:48Speaker 6: what's happening is outweigh that imperative. And is it also
- 8:53Speaker 6: the case that there will be no more diplomatic relations
- 8:55Speaker 6: as long as the IIGC remains in parent.
- 8:57Speaker 1: Her own Now it's the case that having received this
- 9:02Speaker 1: information yesterday, we went thro our formal channels and made decisions.
- 9:09Speaker 2: No accountability at all. Now, about a.
- 9:12Speaker 3: Year ago I had the former head of the British
- 9:14Speaker 3: Secret Intelligence Service on the show, Sir Richard deal Love,
- 9:18Speaker 3: and he warned about precisely this Iranian influence operations here
- 9:24Speaker 3: in Australia. Now, it's extraordinary that the former chief of
- 9:28Speaker 3: mi I sixter knew that this would likely be taking place,
- 9:32Speaker 3: and less than a year later his warnings have turned
- 9:35Speaker 3: out to be correct. Here was Sir Richard deal Love
- 9:38Speaker 3: on this show in September last year.
- 9:41Speaker 7: There's no question that Iran, you know, will be exploiting
- 9:47Speaker 7: these opportunities. I'm going to have a very active intelligence
- 9:51Speaker 7: organization which has a long history and my view of
- 9:55Speaker 7: supporting therorist movements. So yes, there is a danger in
- 9:58Speaker 7: this sort of infiltration of the Palestinian diaspora.
- 10:04Speaker 3: Sir Richard, I'm intrigued by the comment you just made
- 10:07Speaker 3: when you said Iran has a very sophisticated intelligence and
- 10:12Speaker 3: they would be looking to infiltrate, They'd be looking for
- 10:15Speaker 3: opportunities like this.
- 10:17Speaker 2: What do you mean how would that work?
- 10:19Speaker 7: Well? The IRGC, which is the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps,
- 10:24Speaker 7: is part of it's the primary intelligence organization in Iran.
- 10:31Speaker 7: I think there's no question that, you know, Australia, it
- 10:35Speaker 7: may seem very distant from the Middle East, you know,
- 10:40Speaker 7: is to an extent inevitably involved in this situation. So
- 10:46Speaker 7: you know, we know we've seen I mean, I remember
- 10:49Speaker 7: when I was chief. This is way back warning when
- 10:53Speaker 7: Alexander down. It was Foreign Minister saying to Alexander, look,
- 10:57Speaker 7: you know you're not going to avoid this terrorist problem now.
- 11:01Speaker 3: Sir Richard dear Love was absolutely correct. He could see
- 11:05Speaker 3: this problem coming months before it unfolded, and he warned
- 11:09Speaker 3: the Albanezy government publicly on this program.
- 11:13Speaker 2: And they took no notice.
- 11:14Speaker 3: Iran is a grave threat not just to Israel, but
- 11:19Speaker 3: to all of us in the West, including here in Australia.
- 11:23Speaker 3: And if you still doubt this, look at the extent
- 11:27Speaker 3: of the destruction that Iran caused at the Adash Synagogue
- 11:31Speaker 3: in Melbourne. So yumi, let's go through to where the
- 11:35Speaker 3: fire really ripped through the synagogue.
- 11:38Speaker 8: Oh look at this. It's unbelievable.
- 11:41Speaker 2: Oh, it's just it's heartbreaking.
- 11:43Speaker 3: You were over here in the quiet early hours of
- 11:46Speaker 3: the morning, absolute silence.
- 11:50Speaker 2: Tell us what happened.
- 11:51Speaker 8: So I was sitting there, as you can see, my
- 11:53Speaker 8: book set to the first table there on the left
- 11:55Speaker 8: hand side. On the right hand side of the table,
- 11:57Speaker 8: there's some books still they're not completely burnt. And I
- 12:01Speaker 8: was studying. Suddenly I hit his big bang that felt
- 12:04Speaker 8: like a sledgehammer on a wooden door, and it was
- 12:07Speaker 8: on this story, I think, so I don't know. But
- 12:09Speaker 8: a second later another bank, and I saw glass flying out,
- 12:14Speaker 8: so I knew that I was under attack. So I
- 12:16Speaker 8: just jumped up, ran out, and I forgot my phone.
- 12:20Speaker 8: I've been terrifying, terrified, yes I was, But I am
- 12:24Speaker 8: part of Hattula, and I've got a radio on me,
- 12:27Speaker 8: a walkie talkie, and I got on there and I said,
- 12:29Speaker 8: I'm under attack. Can I have back up?
- 12:33Speaker 9: Now?
- 12:33Speaker 3: It's only lucky lives weren't lost that day, and I'll
- 12:38Speaker 3: never forget it. I felt devastated walking through the synagogue
- 12:41Speaker 3: right after it was firebombed, burnt to smithereens as you
- 12:45Speaker 3: just saw hundreds of prayer books on the ground, the
- 12:48Speaker 3: smell of smoke still thick in the air. I mean,
- 12:51Speaker 3: it was so sad, it was truly, it was heartbreaking.
- 12:56Speaker 2: What usually happens in this room.
- 12:58Speaker 8: In this room, people study and in about six thirty
- 13:01Speaker 8: that's when we start praying. So all this full of
- 13:03Speaker 8: books all around the front is full of books all
- 13:07Speaker 8: over there is full of books that's all gone with
- 13:09Speaker 8: the fire.
- 13:10Speaker 2: You can just see here the burnt prayer books.
- 13:13Speaker 3: It's truly you wouldn't expect to see this in Australia
- 13:17Speaker 3: in twenty twenty four.
- 13:18Speaker 8: This is definitely not definitely you're a proud Jew.
- 13:22Speaker 3: You're living in Australia, a peaceful country. To think that
- 13:25Speaker 3: you in your house of worship such.
- 13:29Speaker 8: A thing would happen, I don't believe. I wouldn't believe
- 13:32Speaker 8: that such a thing would happen here in Australia.
- 13:36Speaker 3: Now, this is exactly the type of violence and terrorism
- 13:40Speaker 3: that Israel has been waging a war against. Yet there's
- 13:44Speaker 3: been this horrible moral confusion in Australia where the Albanezer
- 13:48Speaker 3: government has allowed Israel to be seen as the enemy.
- 13:53Speaker 3: And looking back at that Adas Synagogue damage, knowing that
- 13:57Speaker 3: around is responsible for this hatred in Australia, thousands of
- 14:01Speaker 3: miles away from Israel, it really should shoot home to
- 14:05Speaker 3: the Albaneze government, who exactly the aggressor is now, As
- 14:09Speaker 3: Nadiya who said to me on Thursday night, Israel is
- 14:12Speaker 3: fighting a war on behalf of all of Western civilization.
- 14:17Speaker 3: Actually we're fighting the war of Western civilization against these barbarians,
- 14:24Speaker 3: and to his credit, Albanezi today finally acknowledged this was
- 14:28Speaker 3: not just an attack on the Jewish community but on
- 14:31Speaker 3: Australia and his right. In saying that so, Albanezi now
- 14:36Speaker 3: acknowledges the grave threat of round Poser's Yet he claimed
- 14:40Speaker 3: the harbor Bridge rally was peaceful. The rally where bob
- 14:44Speaker 3: Ka ed Husick and Julian Asanj and others stood in
- 14:48Speaker 3: front of the poster of Iran Supreme Leader Ayatola Kamani.
- 14:54Speaker 3: Now they said they didn't know the poster was there,
- 14:57Speaker 3: or they didn't know who he was. But what is
- 14:59Speaker 3: the Albanese government going to do about all these protesters
- 15:02Speaker 3: who carry images of the Ayatola? The Rule of Law
- 15:06Speaker 3: Institute of Australia Vice president Chris Merritt told me today
- 15:10Speaker 3: that the street protests here and elsewhere now look very
- 15:13Speaker 3: much like one part of an orchestrated campaign coming out
- 15:17Speaker 3: of Tehran. He says there is now a good argument
- 15:21Speaker 3: that the weekend marchers need to be shut down on
- 15:24Speaker 3: national security grounds.
- 15:26Speaker 2: They clearly help Iran's goals.
- 15:30Speaker 3: Now Iran is not only finding hamas Hezbela and the huties,
- 15:33Speaker 3: but it's also behind anti Western movements and protests in
- 15:37Speaker 3: cities like Sydney and Melbourne. And the Albanezy government needs
- 15:42Speaker 3: to recognize the dark forces behind these divisive rallies and
- 15:48Speaker 3: finally show some courage, takes some action to shut them down.
- 15:59Speaker 2: Show tonight.
- 16:00Speaker 3: So many people on to speak about this issue, but
- 16:02Speaker 3: now let's bring in shadow Foreign Affairs Minister Mikhalia Cash.
- 16:05Speaker 2: Michalia, thank you for coming on again.
- 16:09Speaker 3: Was the Albanesi government reckless and even negligent in failing
- 16:13Speaker 3: to list the IIGC as a terrorist organization earlier?
- 16:18Speaker 2: Well, let's be very.
- 16:19Speaker 10: Clear, Shari state sponsored terror bya the Islamic Republic of
- 16:23Speaker 10: Iran has now come to Australia.
- 16:26Speaker 2: And it was all well and good.
- 16:28Speaker 10: For mister Alberanzi to go out there today and announce
- 16:31Speaker 10: that his government was going to list the Revolutionary Guard
- 16:35Speaker 10: as a terrorist organization, but he also should have apologized
- 16:39Speaker 10: to Australians for not heeding the opposition's calls over two
- 16:44Speaker 10: and a half years ago when we told him this
- 16:48Speaker 10: should be done. Where was mister Alberanzi being upfront with
- 16:53Speaker 10: the Australian people today and saying to them two and
- 16:57Speaker 10: a half years ago, when the opposition told I needed
- 17:01Speaker 10: to list this organization as a terrorist organization, my government
- 17:07Speaker 10: said no, here's the proof recommendation from the committee report. Government,
- 17:14Speaker 10: we will not be adopting.
- 17:16Speaker 2: And then worse.
- 17:17Speaker 10: This is a letter from Pennywong, Mark Dreyfus and Claire
- 17:22Speaker 10: O'Neill June twenty twenty four explaining in weasel words why
- 17:30Speaker 10: the Albanesi government would refuse to work with the opposition
- 17:35Speaker 10: to list the Revolutionary Regard as a terrorist organization. And
- 17:40Speaker 10: now where are we today? State sponsored terror on Australian soil.
- 17:46Speaker 10: Let's be clear, people could have died Shari. This is
- 17:51Speaker 10: a regime that does not share our values. They fund
- 17:56Speaker 10: his Bolla and hamas and break up Australia. They could
- 18:02Speaker 10: have killed Australians.
- 18:05Speaker 3: Exactly exactly your message. You're so right, that is such
- 18:08Speaker 3: a strong message. We also heard the AZIO boss Mike
- 18:12Speaker 3: Burgess very clear.
- 18:13Speaker 2: He says that.
- 18:14Speaker 3: Iran could be behind other anti Semitic attacks as well.
- 18:18Speaker 2: They're still investigating.
- 18:20Speaker 3: How concerned are you about the extent of this foreign
- 18:22Speaker 3: influence that's clearly undermining social cohesion?
- 18:27Speaker 10: Well, I am incredibly concerned. And in particular given the
- 18:31Speaker 10: two and a half years ago the Senator clear Chandler report,
- 18:35Speaker 10: as I have shown, you clearly made a recommendation to
- 18:40Speaker 10: the government. But I also want to read out for
- 18:42Speaker 10: your viewers because it's about time Australians understood who these
- 18:46Speaker 10: people are. This is what the Iranian revolutionary regard are
- 18:51Speaker 10: shari Their goal is to protect Iran's Islamic revolution and
- 18:58Speaker 10: its achievements, and relentless is struggled to realize the divine
- 19:01Speaker 10: ideals and get this spread the law of God in
- 19:06Speaker 10: accordance with the Islamic Republic of Iran's laws. Mister Albinizi
- 19:13Speaker 10: said it a clear Chandler two and a half years
- 19:15Speaker 10: ago recommended on behalf of the opposition based on evidence
- 19:20Speaker 10: directly taken from the diaspora here in Australia who fled
- 19:26Speaker 10: this oppressive regime, that they are terrorists, that this organization
- 19:32Speaker 10: needed to be listed as a terrorist organization. It is
- 19:35Speaker 10: in black and white. Your government said no. You need
- 19:41Speaker 10: to be very clear to the Australian people. Now why
- 19:44Speaker 10: your government two and a half years ago refused to
- 19:48Speaker 10: heed the calls from the opposition and do what was
- 19:52Speaker 10: needed At the time, and now state sponsored terror on
- 19:57Speaker 10: Australian soil and the of anti Semitism. We now know, Shari,
- 20:03Speaker 10: that Jewish Australians were under at tech from the Islamic
- 20:08Speaker 10: Republic of Iran. I don't know how much worse it
- 20:11Speaker 10: can get for Jewish Australians.
- 20:14Speaker 2: Terrifying.
- 20:15Speaker 3: And what makes it even worse is that we had
- 20:17Speaker 3: our Sky News Antisemitism Summit in February, the Federal Government
- 20:20Speaker 3: didn't want to know about our recommendations. Then Jillian Siegel's
- 20:25Speaker 3: report a couple of months ago.
- 20:26Speaker 2: Again it's all on ice, you know.
- 20:29Speaker 3: And yet the Prime Minister stands up today claiming to
- 20:32Speaker 3: care about this issue.
- 20:33Speaker 2: I mean, he's done nothing.
- 20:34Speaker 10: Can I just say on that, Shari? On that Shari?
- 20:37Speaker 10: The Prime Minister loves a good roundtable. He's had a
- 20:40Speaker 10: three day talk fist and all he got out of
- 20:42Speaker 10: that one was High Texas. But if the Prime Minister
- 20:45Speaker 10: was Dinkom, he'd pick up the phone to you tomorrow
- 20:47Speaker 10: and to other leading Jewish Australians and say get into
- 20:50Speaker 10: Parliament House, Canberra. I've got the Sky report, I've got
- 20:54Speaker 10: the Sigal Report, and we're going to work out how
- 20:57Speaker 10: we can start to implement it to I don't know
- 21:01Speaker 10: how much worse it can get state sponsored terror via
- 21:06Speaker 10: a country. And as Julian Lisa said, they do not
- 21:09Speaker 10: share Australian values. His blah humus dedicated to the eradication
- 21:15Speaker 10: of Israel. His blah also dedicated to the eradication.
- 21:19Speaker 2: Of the US.
- 21:19Speaker 10: Guess what the US and Israel share our values again,
- 21:26Speaker 10: Wake up mister al beneezy and wake up Australia exactly.
- 21:31Speaker 3: Mikhaylia Cash incredibly strong. Thank you so much for your
- 21:35Speaker 3: time for coming on the program.
- 21:38Speaker 2: Great to be Now I'm going to come back to
- 21:41Speaker 2: this topic throughout the show.
- 21:42Speaker 3: We'll get reaction from the Adas Synagogue in Melbourne later on,
- 21:45Speaker 3: plus Elon Levy and Israel also Holly Hughes and James
- 21:48Speaker 3: Willis coming up shortly, but I just want to return
- 21:51Speaker 3: to this shocking news that two Victorian police officers have
- 21:55Speaker 3: been killed another police officer wounded. They're at a property
- 21:59Speaker 3: in Poor Punker, around three hundred kilometers northeast of Melbourne.
- 22:04Speaker 2: It's just a reminder of the personal.
- 22:06Speaker 3: Risks that police take day in and day out for
- 22:10Speaker 3: our community, mostly unrecognized. Now tonight, as we're going to air.
- 22:15Speaker 3: There is a man hunt underway for the alleged shooter
- 22:18Speaker 3: and let's bring in now to get the latest on
- 22:20Speaker 3: this from Bright Police Station, Victoria reporter Jeorgie Dickison. Joorgie,
- 22:25Speaker 3: thank you very much for being there in the rain
- 22:26Speaker 3: for us. Now, what do you know about this alleged
- 22:30Speaker 3: gunman who's now on the run and what did the
- 22:32Speaker 3: police have to say about how this all unfolded?
- 22:37Speaker 11: Good leading to you, Shari Well. In terms of this
- 22:39Speaker 11: alleged gunman, as we mentioned, he is still on the
- 22:43Speaker 11: run and he has been identified as Desi Freeman. Now
- 22:46Speaker 11: he is known to authorities. Vision has emerged earlier today
- 22:51Speaker 11: of a previous arrest that involved this individual four years
- 22:55Speaker 11: ago after a protest outside a course to this quite
- 22:59Speaker 11: dramatic vision of his being arrested. And what we know
- 23:02Speaker 11: today is that these officers had gone to his property
- 23:05Speaker 11: just around ten minutes from where we are standing tonight
- 23:08Speaker 11: to execute a warrant. As for what exactly that warrant
- 23:12Speaker 11: was for, police haven't released rather those details yet, but
- 23:17Speaker 11: what we do know is after ten officers had gone
- 23:20Speaker 11: to his property, this alleged gunment started firing at these
- 23:24Speaker 11: offices and that is when we saw two officers shot
- 23:27Speaker 11: and killed and a third suffered a wound to his
- 23:30Speaker 11: leg and underwent surgery at the Alfred Hospital later that day.
- 23:34Speaker 11: But in terms of this man, he has now fled
- 23:36Speaker 11: the scene. He has been as seen to be going
- 23:39Speaker 11: into the dense bushland around this area, which is quite
- 23:42Speaker 11: dense and it is making authorities jobs even harder now
- 23:45Speaker 11: going into nighttime, as well as with this rain that
- 23:48Speaker 11: has been relentless throughout the day. But we heard from
- 23:51Speaker 11: the Chief Commissioner Mike Bush on this alleged gunman.
- 23:55Speaker 12: We know that the person has heavily armed, We know
- 23:58Speaker 12: that they are dangerous. Obviously the person has known to us.
- 24:02Speaker 12: There was a risk assessment done and the fact that
- 24:05Speaker 12: there were ten officers attending the search warrant does talk
- 24:09Speaker 12: to the gravity of the situation.
- 24:14Speaker 11: In terms of this incident, that is an absolutely tragic
- 24:16Speaker 11: incident that has unfolded today. The victims have been identified
- 24:20Speaker 11: as a fifty nine year old detective and the thirty
- 24:23Speaker 11: five year old senior constable. They have lost their lives
- 24:26Speaker 11: in the line of duty today and we have heard
- 24:28Speaker 11: from the Premier condemning this incident. We have heard from
- 24:31Speaker 11: all sides of politicians today who are calling about how
- 24:35Speaker 11: tragic this incident is and it really has shocked this
- 24:37Speaker 11: local community. The community is still in lockdown. They are
- 24:40Speaker 11: told to remain indoors. Even when we arrived here earlier
- 24:43Speaker 11: today we received a text message from authorities on our
- 24:47Speaker 11: phones telling us to remain inside. But here's a bit
- 24:49Speaker 11: more from Chief Commissioner Mike Bush.
- 24:53Speaker 12: What unfolded today was that ten very dedicated police officers
- 24:57Speaker 12: went to execute a search warrant at that dress. They
- 25:01Speaker 12: were met by the offender and they were murdered in
- 25:08Speaker 12: cold blood. He was heavily armed and he was able
- 25:12Speaker 12: to escape into the Bush. I do understand that he
- 25:15Speaker 12: was pursued, but he was able to get away.
- 25:20Speaker 3: Such tragic events today, Georgie, thank you very much for
- 25:23Speaker 3: bringing us that update. Now let's bring in our regular
- 25:27Speaker 3: Tuesday panel, former Liberal Senator Holly Hughes and Daily Telegraph
- 25:30Speaker 3: journalist James Willis.
- 25:32Speaker 2: We welcome to you both, and let's get back to
- 25:34Speaker 2: today's top story on Iran. Now, Holly, you just heard
- 25:38Speaker 2: the criticisms.
- 25:39Speaker 3: From Michaylia Cash that the government should have acted on
- 25:41Speaker 3: this two and a half years ago. February twenty twenty
- 25:44Speaker 3: three was when the first recommendation came from that Senate committee.
- 25:48Speaker 3: You know, do you think they need to front up
- 25:50Speaker 3: tomorrow and explain why they were so slow?
- 25:52Speaker 13: Well, I think absolutely they need to front up and
- 25:54Speaker 13: explain why they've refused to take any action. But we've
- 25:57Speaker 13: seen them refused time and again to take any action,
- 26:00Speaker 13: and it's come to anti semitism in this country, and
- 26:02Speaker 13: they've consistently not put the national security and the Australian
- 26:06Speaker 13: community at the front and center when they've made these
- 26:08Speaker 13: decisions around bringing in Gharzan refugees without appropriate checks and
- 26:14Speaker 13: the right visas, and the denial that some of these
- 26:17Speaker 13: attacks were actually terrorist attacks, where.
- 26:19Speaker 2: Now we clearly know that they were.
- 26:21Speaker 13: So this government has a lot of explaining to do,
- 26:24Speaker 13: not only to the Australian Jewish community, but to the
- 26:27Speaker 13: whole of Australia because at the end of the day,
- 26:30Speaker 13: thankfully no one was killed, no one.
- 26:31Speaker 2: Was injured during these attacks.
- 26:33Speaker 13: But can you imagine if a foreign country had killed
- 26:38Speaker 13: Australians on Australian soil, what the impact with that bay
- 26:42Speaker 13: going forward. Yet, this government has sat on its hands
- 26:45Speaker 13: until it was finally forced to do something today, and
- 26:48Speaker 13: this is the problem with this government. They're too busy
- 26:50Speaker 13: playing domestic politics and to a small, quite petty audience,
- 26:56Speaker 13: rather than taking the actions that they should as the
- 26:58Speaker 13: national government to keep all Australians safe.
- 27:01Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, James.
- 27:03Speaker 3: We have to also acknowledge the extraordinary work that ASIO
- 27:06Speaker 3: has done it and just the forensic work in putting
- 27:09Speaker 3: together the details, I mean, the cryptocurrency, the encrypted apps,
- 27:15Speaker 3: so difficult to unpick all of that to work out
- 27:18Speaker 3: this web of connections that Mike Burgess spoke about.
- 27:24Speaker 9: Yeah, and you have to understand, Sherry, our police and
- 27:28Speaker 9: our intelligence agencies do a remarkable job, often with not
- 27:32Speaker 9: the resources that a lot of other countries do have.
- 27:34Speaker 9: This is incredible work.
- 27:36Speaker 2: But I agree with Holly.
- 27:37Speaker 9: And I think that there was enough concern about Iran
- 27:41Speaker 9: and what Iran was threatening and doing in the Middle
- 27:43Speaker 9: East that action should have been taken far earlier. And
- 27:46Speaker 9: as we know, it doesn't take much. Australia has had
- 27:49Speaker 9: a precedent in regards to removing ambassadors from Canberra, so
- 27:53Speaker 9: certainly this action should have taken much sooner than the
- 27:57Speaker 9: horrors we heard today and the potential loss of a
- 28:00Speaker 9: life on Australian Soil.
- 28:02Speaker 2: I want to turn to this net zero debate now.
- 28:06Speaker 3: During the Coalition party room meeting, the MPs that you're
- 28:09Speaker 3: about to see here on screen demanded that the party finally.
- 28:14Speaker 2: Adopt a position now.
- 28:16Speaker 3: Susan Lee has said that she's not going to make
- 28:18Speaker 3: a decision on this for about a year now, Hollia,
- 28:22Speaker 3: I know you support Susan Lee and I've been extremely
- 28:25Speaker 3: critical of.
- 28:25Speaker 14: Her, But.
- 28:28Speaker 3: The truth is the party can't wait a year to
- 28:32Speaker 3: have a position on net zero. More in energy policy,
- 28:35Speaker 3: they can't hold the government to account unless they know
- 28:37Speaker 3: what they stand for.
- 28:38Speaker 13: Look, and I understand what you're saying on this issue.
- 28:41Speaker 13: And I actually saw Susan I was in canber on
- 28:43Speaker 13: Sunday night, my last ever sentate event, which is great,
- 28:46Speaker 13: God lovely Pewter mug or goblet, congratulations. But you know
- 28:50Speaker 13: there is this sort of overarching issue there. Look, I
- 28:53Speaker 13: don't think we're going to get to net zero by
- 28:55Speaker 13: twenty fifty and I don't think anyone with half a
- 28:57Speaker 13: brain in this country thinks it's actually going to happen.
- 29:00Speaker 13: Now to me, it would say that there's a couple
- 29:02Speaker 13: of debates going on here. Do you want net zero
- 29:05Speaker 13: at all? Do you want to acknowledge net zero by
- 29:07Speaker 13: twenty fifty years possible or not? And then have a
- 29:10Speaker 13: look at how you might want to achieve net zero,
- 29:13Speaker 13: but you might want to do it in a timeframe
- 29:15Speaker 13: that's sustainable for Australian industry, businesses and families to actually
- 29:18Speaker 13: make a transition there without destroying every rule and regional
- 29:22Speaker 13: community in its wake.
- 29:24Speaker 2: And that's where it's at.
- 29:26Speaker 13: It's two and a half years to an election. The
- 29:28Speaker 13: electorate is not honed in on these and quite honestly,
- 29:31Speaker 13: the five people who decided to make a big hope
- 29:33Speaker 13: plarer of it today I think of causing some of
- 29:35Speaker 13: these problems when there could be a discussion in the
- 29:37Speaker 13: party room, there could be more of an attempt. And
- 29:40Speaker 13: the end of the day, this government has put a
- 29:42Speaker 13: nose around its own neck. And if I was thinking
- 29:45Speaker 13: with a political hat on, I'd let the government fail
- 29:47Speaker 13: because they're going to be out there saying we're going
- 29:50Speaker 13: to achieve all of these things that we're only five
- 29:52Speaker 13: years away from, and they are absolutely nowhere near it
- 29:56Speaker 13: and they're not going to hit them at all. And look,
- 29:58Speaker 13: I might be very unpopular for saying this, but the
- 30:00Speaker 13: Liberals had a mountain to climb last election and they
- 30:03Speaker 13: went backwards. So I think it's six years of opposition
- 30:05Speaker 13: unless you know, Albanezi completely employes, unfortunately, and therefore this
- 30:10Speaker 13: labor government is going to have to wear when the transition.
- 30:13Speaker 3: Is exactly the point what you just said. It's six
- 30:16Speaker 3: years unless alban Ezi employes.
- 30:18Speaker 2: Because this is the issue. It's not holding. I think
- 30:22Speaker 2: this is the issue. The coalition is not holding.
- 30:24Speaker 13: The good facing net zero is the issue rather than
- 30:26Speaker 13: the state of the energy market.
- 30:28Speaker 3: The energy policy is the issue. Let's bring in James. Now, James,
- 30:31Speaker 3: you're at the Daily Telegraph Bush summit. What are you
- 30:34Speaker 3: hearing from farmers about this issue.
- 30:39Speaker 9: Or shre I've seen this firsthand over the last few
- 30:41Speaker 9: months during trips to Yas and Crookwell near Golben. And
- 30:45Speaker 9: while there are some farmers that are obviously benefiting from
- 30:48Speaker 9: net zero projects by hosting them on their properties, sometimes
- 30:51Speaker 9: to the tune of hundreds of thousand dollars a year,
- 30:54Speaker 9: the people nearby have obvious concerns about the impact on
- 30:58Speaker 9: their land, but also they haven't kindly to the fact
- 31:01Speaker 9: that just someone's coming to town with a map and
- 31:03Speaker 9: all of a sudden said, Hey, these turbines are going here, here,
- 31:06Speaker 9: and here, here's your boundary fence, and you're not going
- 31:09Speaker 9: to get a scent from all of that. So they've
- 31:11Speaker 9: had to become net zero experts overnight. I've got fears
- 31:14Speaker 9: about the future of our food ball and I think
- 31:16Speaker 9: farmers have already survived fire and flood and drought and
- 31:19Speaker 9: volatile prices, and all of a sudden, this is a
- 31:22Speaker 9: brand new challenge. But I also just wonder where we're
- 31:26Speaker 9: actually going to be heading when, as Holly points out,
- 31:29Speaker 9: every quarter a report comes out that says we're not
- 31:32Speaker 9: actually hitting the emission cuts that we've been promised or
- 31:36Speaker 9: we have to by twenty thirty. As a result, government's panic,
- 31:39Speaker 9: and that's when the concern is that they start to
- 31:41Speaker 9: allow more projects through the pipeline and railroad regional community.
- 31:45Speaker 9: So it's a massive concern in the bush. And I
- 31:48Speaker 9: don't think farmers are taking kindly to the way they've
- 31:51Speaker 9: been treated by net zero executives from interstate or in
- 31:55Speaker 9: most cases, from overseas.
- 31:56Speaker 3: Yeah, and great reporting on this, by the way, James
- 31:59Speaker 3: in the Telly Today. Look, I just want to get
- 32:01Speaker 3: to this story before we go because it is beyond
- 32:04Speaker 3: shocking and absurd. This is about the New York Democratic
- 32:08Speaker 3: mayoral candidate, ma'am Danny. He's, as you know, running on
- 32:12Speaker 3: a radical platform, but it has now come out and
- 32:15Speaker 3: said that he'd end misdemeanor charges. I mean, this is
- 32:19Speaker 3: just gonna This is so radical that it'll turn New
- 32:22Speaker 3: York basically into San Francisco.
- 32:24Speaker 13: Holly Well, And this is what's happening in San Francisco.
- 32:26Speaker 13: People are just walking into stores and helping themselves because
- 32:30Speaker 13: there's no penalty. If they think it's one hundred dollars,
- 32:32Speaker 13: it's the value. It's so if you steal things for
- 32:34Speaker 13: less than worth hundred dollars, there's no penalty whatsoever. So
- 32:38Speaker 13: shopkeepers are having to keep everything locked up because people
- 32:41Speaker 13: can just walk in, take what they want, and walk
- 32:43Speaker 13: out and there's absolutely no penalty. It's anarchy. It's coming
- 32:47Speaker 13: to pass. And this guy's nuts. I mean, he's dead set, insane.
- 32:52Speaker 13: And I know New York has sort of always leanked
- 32:54Speaker 13: towards the Democrats, but if this isn't a wake up
- 32:57Speaker 13: call for what would happen in New York, it's dreadful.
- 33:00Speaker 3: But so many New Yorkers are already leaving because of
- 33:02Speaker 3: the new tax laws. I think if he gets in
- 33:05Speaker 3: it or be the final straw, right, Holly Hughes and
- 33:08Speaker 3: James willis great to.
- 33:09Speaker 2: See you both as always. Thanks, That's still to come.
- 33:12Speaker 3: Why Susan Lee is failing to land blows against Albin
- 33:15Speaker 3: Easy Camera Milner's coming up, plus will Cross Live to
- 33:18Speaker 3: Israel to discuss Iran and Trump's call for the Gaza
- 33:21Speaker 3: to end in a few weeks, the gars of war
- 33:24Speaker 3: to end in a few weeks.
- 33:25Speaker 2: Elon Levy is up next.
- 33:31Speaker 3: Welcome back, and let's return to tonight's top story, the
- 33:34Speaker 3: major revelations that Iran directed at least two anti Semitic
- 33:38Speaker 3: attacks in Australia. Joining me now, former Israeli government spokesperson
- 33:43Speaker 3: Elon Levy, Elon, great to see you again. Now you've
- 33:47Speaker 3: seen close up how Iran operates globally, not just attacking Israel. Now,
- 33:53Speaker 3: if the regime can orchestrate anti Semitic fire bombings in Australia,
- 33:58Speaker 3: do you think the Australian guy has underestimated its reach?
- 34:04Speaker 1: Shari?
- 34:05Speaker 14: I think the whole world has underestimated the threat from
- 34:07Speaker 14: the Iranian regime, and I hope this is a wake
- 34:09Speaker 14: up call that the Ayatollahs in Iran are the biggest
- 34:13Speaker 14: state sponsors of terror.
- 34:15Speaker 3: In the world.
- 34:15Speaker 14: There are threat not only to Israel surrounding US with
- 34:18Speaker 14: proxy armies and firing ballistic missiles that Israeli families, but
- 34:22Speaker 14: to the whole world. Just a few months ago, the
- 34:25Speaker 14: British Parliament released a report talking about the persistent and
- 34:28Speaker 14: pervasive threat of Iranian subversion. And this has been before
- 34:33Speaker 14: October seventh. In the year before the October seventh attacks,
- 34:37Speaker 14: fifteen kidnapping and assassination attempts by the Iranian regime on
- 34:42Speaker 14: British soil, and I hope this is a reminder that
- 34:45Speaker 14: Australia and Israel are on the same side against the
- 34:49Speaker 14: same enemy. These attacks were not just attacks against Australian Jews.
- 34:53Speaker 14: They were attacks against Australia, and Australia and the rest
- 34:57Speaker 14: of the world need to get real about those attempts
- 34:59Speaker 14: by the Iranian regime to sow chaos and violence and
- 35:03Speaker 14: terrorism around the world. Israel is fighting the war on
- 35:07Speaker 14: seven fronts, but the eighth front is a tax on
- 35:09Speaker 14: Jews around the world, and that means it's a tax
- 35:12Speaker 14: on your country on Australia too, and the leadership needs
- 35:15Speaker 14: to wise up about that.
- 35:17Speaker 3: I know it's so true, but it's not just terror attacks.
- 35:21Speaker 3: We've also heard increasing evidence about how Iran is sowing
- 35:25Speaker 3: discord in the West through rallies, for example, university campuses.
- 35:30Speaker 2: Do you think this is us a something that needs
- 35:31Speaker 2: to be addressed.
- 35:33Speaker 14: Absolutely, the Iranian regime is looking not only to sow
- 35:37Speaker 14: violence but discord. It wants to tear Australian society apart.
- 35:41Speaker 14: We had two tacks here that were non lethal, thank god.
- 35:45Speaker 14: I don't know whether or on purpose, but the goal
- 35:47Speaker 14: is to so distrust and disunity within Australian society and
- 35:52Speaker 14: to terror apart the fabric of your country. That is
- 35:55Speaker 14: what the Uranian regime wants. It hopes that if Western
- 35:59Speaker 14: countries distracted enough with new internal problems, they'll forget about
- 36:04Speaker 14: the Iranian regimes attempts to build nuclear weapons, they'll forget
- 36:07Speaker 14: about its attempts to dominate the Middle East by arming
- 36:10Speaker 14: proxy armies, and they will be able to gain greater
- 36:14Speaker 14: and greater dominance in the region. So this is absolutely
- 36:17Speaker 14: a threat to Australia because it's an attempt to undermine
- 36:21Speaker 14: Australian society and everyone now needs to be very alert
- 36:26Speaker 14: as to the threat of foreign interference and foreign subversion,
- 36:30Speaker 14: not only by Iran, by other actors as well, trying
- 36:33Speaker 14: to so discord within Australian society by in this case
- 36:38Speaker 14: going after the Jews.
- 36:39Speaker 2: No exactly.
- 36:41Speaker 3: Now, I just want to turn to the situation in
- 36:43Speaker 3: Gaza at the moment. We saw US President Donald Trump
- 36:46Speaker 3: say overnight that he thinks the war in Gaza is
- 36:50Speaker 3: going to be over soon.
- 36:51Speaker 2: Have a look.
- 36:52Speaker 15: I think within the next two to three weeks you're
- 36:54Speaker 15: going to have pretty good, conclusive, conclusive ending.
- 37:02Speaker 3: Now Elan I spoke to nedin Yahu on Thursday and
- 37:04Speaker 3: he said he was still determined to go into.
- 37:07Speaker 2: Gaza city eliminate the terrorists.
- 37:09Speaker 3: So isn't the time frame for that longer than a
- 37:13Speaker 3: few weeks? Do you think there's a disconnect here?
- 37:18Speaker 14: Well, I hope the war can end in two to
- 37:19Speaker 14: three weeks, but it will end in two to three
- 37:21Speaker 14: weeks if Hamas does what the whole world is demanding,
- 37:25Speaker 14: which is to free all of the hostages immediately, to
- 37:28Speaker 14: lay down its arms and to surrender power, and then
- 37:32Speaker 14: the war can end, not in two to three weeks.
- 37:34Speaker 14: It can end in two to three days or even
- 37:36Speaker 14: two to three hours. This is a war that Hamas began,
- 37:39Speaker 14: and it's a war that Hamas can end immediately. But
- 37:42Speaker 14: I think the Prime Minister wants to end this war,
- 37:45Speaker 14: but end this war in a way that makes sure
- 37:48Speaker 14: that all the hostages are home and that Hamas cannot
- 37:51Speaker 14: restart this war again and again, as it has been
- 37:55Speaker 14: threatening to do so. All world leaders who want to
- 37:58Speaker 14: end this war, this isn't the time to throw Hamas
- 38:00Speaker 14: a lifeline. It's time to pile on international pressure to
- 38:03Speaker 14: make its leaders understand it's game over. They're never going
- 38:07Speaker 14: back to governing the Gaza strip. They have to free
- 38:09Speaker 14: all of the hostages, immediately, lay down arms, and this
- 38:14Speaker 14: horrible war that they started nearly two years ago can
- 38:17Speaker 14: finally end.
- 38:18Speaker 2: Yeah, Elien.
- 38:20Speaker 3: There was also this tragic accident overnight where a hospital
- 38:23Speaker 3: was bombed accidentally by Israel. Journalists and medical staff were killed.
- 38:29Speaker 3: What do we know about how this happened.
- 38:34Speaker 14: It's still unclear what exactly happened. That the Prime Minister
- 38:36Speaker 14: has said that this was a tragic mishap. So what
- 38:39Speaker 14: happened yesterday was not supposed to happen, and the army
- 38:42Speaker 14: is investigating it, and I have full confidence that if
- 38:45Speaker 14: the army finds that people acted in deviation from their orders,
- 38:49Speaker 14: they will be held accountable. That has happened before when
- 38:52Speaker 14: the IDF has found that soldiers acted not in accordance
- 38:55Speaker 14: with their orders, they were held accountable for that. This
- 38:59Speaker 14: is happening, of course, in a context in which Hamas
- 39:01Speaker 14: has militarized every single hospital in Gaza. Just because it's
- 39:05Speaker 14: a hospital does not mean that there is no Hammas
- 39:07Speaker 14: activity in the region. We know that there has been
- 39:11Speaker 14: at Nasa Hospital in particular, claims that Hamas had put
- 39:15Speaker 14: a camera on the roof of that hospital that was
- 39:17Speaker 14: spying on soldiers' movements and putting their movements and putting
- 39:22Speaker 14: those soldiers at risk. But I trust the IDF will
- 39:24Speaker 14: investigate that incident. And of course it goes without saying
- 39:28Speaker 14: that the IDF is determined to bring down Hamas and
- 39:31Speaker 14: this is war against Hamas terrorists, not the people of Gaza,
- 39:35Speaker 14: whom Hamas is hiding behind.
- 39:36Speaker 3: No exactly, and Hamas's has of course been refusing to
- 39:39Speaker 3: accept the ceasefire proposal. Since may all right, Elon always great,
- 39:44Speaker 3: have you on the show.
- 39:45Speaker 2: Appreciate it.
- 39:46Speaker 3: Now still to come, we'll get reaction from the Adas
- 39:49Speaker 3: Synagogue community about the revelations the evil Iranian regime was
- 39:53Speaker 3: behind that attack. And the Coalition fails to land a
- 39:56Speaker 3: blow in albit easy in question time, Cameron Milner up next, Right,
- 40:04Speaker 3: Let's get across some more federal politics tonight with former
- 40:08Speaker 3: Chief of Staff to Bill Shorten and former Labor State
- 40:10Speaker 3: Secretary Cameron Milner. Karen, welcome again. Look, there's accusations the
- 40:17Speaker 3: Coalition is not serious. Susan Lee is failing to land
- 40:20Speaker 3: to blow. In question time, we're seeing this article from
- 40:23Speaker 3: Jeff Chambers. He writes about Ted O'Brien, the Shadow Treasurer,
- 40:27Speaker 3: his wacky speeches, and in one about the economy, he
- 40:31Speaker 3: referred to Candy Man fifteen times and Willie Wonka and
- 40:36Speaker 3: it's all giving the government free kicks like this.
- 40:41Speaker 15: When I was told, mister Speaker that the Member for
- 40:44Speaker 15: Fairfax gave a speech about Charlie and the chocolate factory,
- 40:47Speaker 15: I confess, I confess that the word wonker, the word Wonka,
- 40:52Speaker 15: was almost the word that came to mind.
- 40:56Speaker 3: Now, Cameron, this is a shocking guy. Government and the
- 41:00Speaker 3: Coalition needs together their act together.
- 41:04Speaker 16: Well they do, and the Albani's government is a target
- 41:06Speaker 16: rich environment. Char I mean, there are so many mistakes
- 41:08Speaker 16: they're making, so much hubris on show and so much
- 41:11Speaker 16: arrogance with the ninety four seats they've got, and you
- 41:13Speaker 16: know parlers are even sitting for instance much this year.
- 41:16Speaker 16: So no, I mean, Turner Bryan's got to do a
- 41:18Speaker 16: lot better. I mean, you know, handing himself up like
- 41:21Speaker 16: that to Charmers. Chalmers is one of the best performers
- 41:22Speaker 16: in Parliament.
- 41:23Speaker 17: I mean he's Paul Keating s sk in terms of
- 41:25Speaker 17: his ability on the rhetorical reply.
- 41:27Speaker 16: But no, I mean, look, Turner Bryan then called it
- 41:30Speaker 16: a major wonker by his opposite number is not good
- 41:33Speaker 16: news for him.
- 41:34Speaker 17: And he's actually got quite clearly with the collision.
- 41:37Speaker 16: You've got to put it together and got to get
- 41:39Speaker 16: a lot better at being an opposition.
- 41:41Speaker 3: Yeah. I don't even know if they have the ability
- 41:43Speaker 3: to do that with that current team. I want to
- 41:46Speaker 3: go to the Defense Minister Richard Miles. He's got a
- 41:49Speaker 3: trip to Washington. Ben Packerman today exclusive in The Australian
- 41:54Speaker 3: that he hasn't been able to like in a meeting
- 41:56Speaker 3: with the US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseeth.
- 41:59Speaker 2: I mean this is worrying, isn't it.
- 42:02Speaker 3: Clearly the Australia US relationship, at least with the Trump
- 42:05Speaker 3: administration is on shaky ground under Albanezi.
- 42:10Speaker 17: What is it with these Albanezy ministers?
- 42:12Speaker 16: I mean the Prime Minister can't get a meeting with
- 42:13Speaker 16: Trump for love of money, can't even get a date
- 42:17Speaker 16: at the sidebar of our conference.
- 42:18Speaker 17: And Richard Miles goes off and plays.
- 42:20Speaker 16: Golf probably in the US any spare time now because
- 42:23Speaker 16: he can't even get an opposite number meeting with the
- 42:26Speaker 16: US Minister of Defense.
- 42:27Speaker 17: And this is terrible. This is terrible.
- 42:29Speaker 16: And to your point before, I mean Trump has met
- 42:32Speaker 16: with every other G twenty leader.
- 42:34Speaker 17: Except Brazil and Mexico.
- 42:35Speaker 16: So we're in the case of being Brazil, Mexico and
- 42:38Speaker 16: Australia for the only ones who haven't had.
- 42:39Speaker 17: One on one meetings.
- 42:40Speaker 16: Now Miles in the middle of aucas you know, can't
- 42:43Speaker 16: even an opposite number meeting with the US Secretary of Defense.
- 42:46Speaker 17: This is appauling.
- 42:47Speaker 3: Chari and his trip comes as there are now calls
- 42:51Speaker 3: for Pillar two of Orcas to be scaled back.
- 42:54Speaker 2: We know Albridge Colby is doing a review.
- 42:56Speaker 3: At the moment, what do you think the government should
- 42:59Speaker 3: be doing to get Orcus back on track, because this
- 43:01Speaker 3: is absolutely critical for our defense, particularly at a time
- 43:05Speaker 3: when China is becoming more aggressive.
- 43:08Speaker 16: Well, we need to stop being foreign foreign affairs duplicates,
- 43:12Speaker 16: you know.
- 43:12Speaker 17: I mean the displicitlessness of Wong and Albow is there
- 43:17Speaker 17: for all to see, especially the US administration. I mean their.
- 43:20Speaker 16: Calls on Palestine are appalling, and we've discussed that before sharing.
- 43:23Speaker 16: I mean, to break from allies like that, To go
- 43:25Speaker 16: and have six days and cuddle Pandas in China and
- 43:28Speaker 16: not even have a six minute meeting or a phone
- 43:30Speaker 16: call with Trump tells you where Albaniz's priorities are and
- 43:33Speaker 16: where the easy ground comes from. I mean, this is
- 43:36Speaker 16: an Australian administration that is shredding, treading our relationship with
- 43:40Speaker 16: key allies and people that stood by our country and
- 43:42Speaker 16: defended our country and their values with their military might.
- 43:46Speaker 16: And that's that's the nature of it. I mean Australia,
- 43:49Speaker 16: if we have to defend ourselves, has to step up
- 43:50Speaker 16: a big time. It wouldn't be three a half percent
- 43:52Speaker 16: of our GDP, be ten percent to even get close
- 43:55Speaker 16: to what we need to do to defend our nation.
- 43:58Speaker 3: This is one of the reasons I love having you
- 44:00Speaker 3: on the show, Cameron.
- 44:01Speaker 2: I mean, you're very articulate, you right so well.
- 44:04Speaker 3: But you know, the point is that this current government
- 44:07Speaker 3: is so far left. It's this socialist incarnation of Labor.
- 44:12Speaker 3: You know, the traditional right of the Labor Party is
- 44:16Speaker 3: horrified by this current government. I mean a lot of
- 44:20Speaker 3: people don't speak publicly, they don't want to destroy relationships,
- 44:23Speaker 3: but you do have the courage to call this out
- 44:27Speaker 3: because it is so appalling how our country is changing
- 44:31Speaker 3: under the likes of Alman Easy, Tony Burke, Penny Wong,
- 44:34Speaker 3: Chris Bowen.
- 44:37Speaker 17: Well.
- 44:37Speaker 16: I put Chris By on one side.
- 44:38Speaker 17: I like Chris. I think he's actually doing a really
- 44:40Speaker 17: good job on climate and come to that as well.
- 44:42Speaker 16: But no, look, I think on the other three right,
- 44:44Speaker 16: I mean, we've got a situation here where you know,
- 44:47Speaker 16: the Labor Right and I've been a party member for
- 44:49Speaker 16: over thirty years, trade any member of the AWU, everything
- 44:53Speaker 16: else I am I'm really worried about when the Labor
- 44:56Speaker 16: Party's gone under Albanies and it's been by complete acquiescence
- 44:59Speaker 16: on issues at our allies and you know by sins
- 45:02Speaker 16: of omission as well as sins of commission as well
- 45:04Speaker 16: as he's acquiesced and being weak on so many.
- 45:06Speaker 17: Issues Sharhi so on ady, Semitism.
- 45:09Speaker 16: I mean, he only called out the IRGC today as
- 45:12Speaker 16: a terrorist organization. Seven years ago the US already listened
- 45:15Speaker 16: to them, So you know he wants to be congratulated
- 45:17Speaker 16: for that. Now, this is a guy who's brought kicking
- 45:19Speaker 16: and screaming to the right decisions rather than naturally as
- 45:22Speaker 16: a labor leader, already having that in his DNA and
- 45:25Speaker 16: coming to the right conclusion anyway.
- 45:27Speaker 3: Yeah, his instinct on not in the right place. It's
- 45:29Speaker 3: still that university activist mindset. Cameron, have a great time
- 45:33Speaker 3: in London. We'll see you back in Australia. See him
- 45:37Speaker 3: still to come. Adas Synagogue board member Benjamin Klein will
- 45:40Speaker 3: share his shock that Iran was the mastermind behind this
- 45:44Speaker 3: fire bombing.
- 45:45Speaker 2: He's up next. Welcome back.
- 45:50Speaker 3: Well, let's return to the news that we learned today
- 45:53Speaker 3: that the ad is Ara Our Synagogue in Melbourne was
- 45:56Speaker 3: firebombed ultimately by the IRGC. Joining me now is Adassis
- 46:01Speaker 3: your Synagogue board member, Benjamin Klein.
- 46:03Speaker 2: Benjamin, good to see you.
- 46:05Speaker 3: Again, what was your initial reaction when the Prime Minister
- 46:10Speaker 3: and the boss of ASIO today revealed that your synagogue's
- 46:15Speaker 3: attack had been ultimately directed by Iran.
- 46:19Speaker 15: Quite distressing, Shari. Traumatic, And really every time this comes
- 46:23Speaker 15: up again, and you know it makes the headlines again,
- 46:27Speaker 15: it's it's quite distressing and upsetting for the whole community.
- 46:31Speaker 3: Look, I met you right after the fire bombing happened,
- 46:34Speaker 3: you know, when you and your and your colleagues showed
- 46:38Speaker 3: me through the synagogue. Nearly nine months since that attack,
- 46:42Speaker 3: you know, there's been a lot of fear since then.
- 46:44Speaker 3: People are now afraid to turn up to synagogue.
- 46:48Speaker 15: It's true, Shari. And even walking through the streets and
- 46:51Speaker 15: just the fabric of Melbourne, even the last nine months
- 46:54Speaker 15: has has gotten worse and worse. So, I mean, kids
- 46:56Speaker 15: in a school park being scramped at and just the
- 47:00Speaker 15: of heat on the streets at the moment is quite
- 47:03Speaker 15: quite upsetting and very scary.
- 47:06Speaker 3: I mean, in a sense, it does provide some comfort
- 47:09Speaker 3: that we know who's behind it, that the authorities have
- 47:12Speaker 3: connected the dots, but ultimately there are a lot of
- 47:16Speaker 3: local criminals in this country who have been hired by
- 47:20Speaker 3: higher players to commit some of these attacks.
- 47:23Speaker 15: Yeah. Absolutely, We've had this in the back of our
- 47:26Speaker 15: mind and when speaking with senior police over the last
- 47:28Speaker 15: nine months, we've asked this question a few times and
- 47:31Speaker 15: they shot usself looking into it and after us some time,
- 47:35Speaker 15: they've managed to get links and brought hard evidence that
- 47:38Speaker 15: it is some overseas and different state players who are
- 47:42Speaker 15: involved in this, and it just brings a whole new
- 47:44Speaker 15: level of fear to the community. The truth is, it's
- 47:47Speaker 15: a fear that comes to the Jewish community. It really
- 47:49Speaker 15: should come to the whole Australian community. To know that
- 47:52Speaker 15: overseas terrorists have an ability to come to Melbourne, to
- 47:56Speaker 15: our beautiful city, in our beautiful country and do these
- 47:59Speaker 15: types of terrible terrorist ACKs and these atrocities to any
- 48:02Speaker 15: communities is very scary.
- 48:05Speaker 3: I mean, this is the worst case of a fire bombing,
- 48:07Speaker 3: but there have been other synagogues both in Melbourne and
- 48:09Speaker 3: Sydney that have been targeted as well vandalized, other arson attempts.
- 48:14Speaker 3: A preschool was firebombed in Sydney too, But your synagogue
- 48:19Speaker 3: was really completely destroyed at least in that one central area.
- 48:24Speaker 3: Can you tell us where you're at in terms of
- 48:26Speaker 3: the rebuild.
- 48:28Speaker 15: Sure, so it's a huge amount of effort and work
- 48:31Speaker 15: from within a board to organize them to help work
- 48:34Speaker 15: through plans. We've currently had draft plans prepared that's gone
- 48:38Speaker 15: out to the community. We've had a couple of sittings
- 48:40Speaker 15: with that, and we'd like very much to lodge plans
- 48:43Speaker 15: and council the next four to eight weeks with early
- 48:46Speaker 15: next to you begin some works hopefully to start building
- 48:49Speaker 15: and your building, which which we estimate will be two
- 48:51Speaker 15: two and a half years to build.
- 48:53Speaker 3: And you've had very generous donations as well from key
- 48:58Speaker 3: figures in Australia, not just the Jewish community.
- 49:02Speaker 15: It's very true and it's amazing the amount of support
- 49:04Speaker 15: and love we've had from just your typical Australian, whether
- 49:07Speaker 15: it's myself walking on the street, or whether it's people
- 49:10Speaker 15: opening up their hearts and really sharing donations big and small,
- 49:14Speaker 15: and really just coming past the synagogue. And I've walked
- 49:17Speaker 15: past the synagogue many times recently where car stopped and
- 49:20Speaker 15: just the window has gone down and said, you know,
- 49:22Speaker 15: we stand with you, We're with you. And the truth
- 49:25Speaker 15: is that's a typical Australian that they really are shocked
- 49:27Speaker 15: and upset about what's happening at the moment on the
- 49:29Speaker 15: street and doesn't reflect the true Australia.
- 49:32Speaker 2: Now, I completely agree with you.
- 49:35Speaker 3: Most Australians, whatever their faith, whatever their nationality, whatever their background,
- 49:39Speaker 3: they don't like absolutely not the violence, but they don't
- 49:43Speaker 3: like the division of the protests either that we're seeing. Benjamin,
- 49:46Speaker 3: thank you very much for your time, really appreciate it.
- 49:49Speaker 3: Now I just want to end tonight very quickly with
- 49:51Speaker 3: a text message I've received from Ray Hardley who makes
- 49:53Speaker 3: a very good point. He says that the federal government
- 49:58Speaker 3: needs to get on the right side of history and
- 50:00Speaker 3: reverse their support of a Palestinian state at the United
- 50:03Speaker 3: Nations after the Iranian fiasco, because as we know, Iranian
- 50:08Speaker 3: funding is backing up from US. A very good point
- 50:12Speaker 3: from Ray Hadley, who's watching right now. All right, I'll
- 50:14Speaker 3: see you tomorrow at eight and right now, here's Paul Murray.
