- 0:00Speaker 1: Sit out to the ramos Law hotline car accident you
- 0:02Speaker 1: need ramos Law medical doctor and attorney ramos Law dot com.
- 0:05Speaker 1: As we were joined by Jeff Legwall, the VSPN. He
- 0:08Speaker 1: joins us every Thursday. Leggy, how are we doing this morning?
- 0:12Speaker 2: I'm good. How are you guys doing well?
- 0:15Speaker 1: It's always, you know, this time of year when you
- 0:18Speaker 1: join us on Thursdays, it's always odd because I want
- 0:20Speaker 1: to ask you about last week. But it feels like
- 0:21Speaker 1: we're really close to the new games. Let's just start
- 0:23Speaker 1: with last week for a second. Weird, not the game
- 0:28Speaker 1: that I would have picked at all, where defense plays
- 0:32Speaker 1: bad and offense plays good.
- 0:35Speaker 3: What is your biggest takeaway?
- 0:36Speaker 1: Like, do you think that if you head into this game,
- 0:39Speaker 1: do you still have more confidence in the defense against
- 0:43Speaker 1: the Chargers offense or do you have like a maybe
- 0:45Speaker 1: a boost in the Broncos offense against their defense where
- 0:47Speaker 1: you at no.
- 0:49Speaker 4: I still I'm very you know, sort of on the
- 0:53Speaker 4: uptick with the defense.
- 0:55Speaker 2: It was a bad day.
- 0:56Speaker 4: I mean, I think the surprising thing for me watching
- 0:59Speaker 4: it and then it, you know, charting it later, was
- 1:03Speaker 4: you know, they they sent five or more rushers at
- 1:06Speaker 4: Daniel Jones on like fifty nine percent of the dropbacks.
- 1:11Speaker 2: And only sacked him once.
- 1:14Speaker 4: But they had him under pressure a ton, but they
- 1:18Speaker 4: somehow didn't impact this play. And then I started thinking, well,
- 1:22Speaker 4: it's not a defensive problem. And then you look, you
- 1:24Speaker 4: start looking at the advanced metrics and Jones has been
- 1:29Speaker 4: after two weeks, Jones has been pressured more than any
- 1:33Speaker 4: quarterback in the league, and he's been sacked the least
- 1:39Speaker 4: on those pressures.
- 1:40Speaker 2: So this wasn't a Bronco problem.
- 1:43Speaker 4: Not to minimize the trouble it posed, but this wasn't
- 1:50Speaker 4: a unique Bronco problem with this version of the Colts.
- 1:54Speaker 4: You know, can they keep doing that for eight ten weeks?
- 1:58Speaker 4: You know, we don't know the answer to that, but
- 2:00Speaker 4: they definitely they've got to get home against Herbert. You know,
- 2:05Speaker 4: they can't have any more of these. Okay, we pressured
- 2:08Speaker 4: him a lot and they still completed a ton of
- 2:11Speaker 4: passes and we didn't sack them. I don't think I
- 2:14Speaker 4: don't think the sacks are aren't everything. Argument is going
- 2:18Speaker 4: to hold much water if the quarterbacks are just going
- 2:21Speaker 4: to complete passes against the pressure.
- 2:24Speaker 5: Yeah, case in point, on that third and six late
- 2:26Speaker 5: in the game, Benito almost got to him, he didn't,
- 2:29Speaker 5: and it results in the first down. So almost ain't enough.
- 2:31Speaker 2: Hey, I want.
- 2:32Speaker 5: To get your recap on what happened there in the
- 2:35Speaker 5: final moments with the leverage play and all that, and
- 2:38Speaker 5: then Sean Payton coming off the next day saying it's
- 2:40Speaker 5: on him. You think he's just taking one for the team.
- 2:42Speaker 5: I mean, I doubt Sean Payton is making that call
- 2:44Speaker 5: in that situation, is he.
- 2:47Speaker 4: Well, I think he's certainly on the headset when it's
- 2:50Speaker 4: being discussed. I mean, so it's hard for me to
- 2:53Speaker 4: believe he doesn't know the block is on at that moment.
- 2:57Speaker 2: You know.
- 2:57Speaker 4: I think it's whether he's, you know, looking at the
- 3:01Speaker 4: play card trying to figure what, you know, something else out.
- 3:04Speaker 4: I don't know the answer to that, but it's hard
- 3:06Speaker 4: for me to believe when everyone on the headset that
- 3:10Speaker 4: he doesn't know the block is on in that situation,
- 3:13Speaker 4: or they haven't at least talked about it. It's just
- 3:16Speaker 4: a it's a bad decision. I mean, the guy hasn't
- 3:18Speaker 4: made a field goal longer than fifty yards in his career,
- 3:23Speaker 4: and there's just no reason to have that risk against
- 3:27Speaker 4: that kicker at that time. And I think the big
- 3:30Speaker 4: thing is still unexplained to me is why two Bronco
- 3:35Speaker 4: players flipped spots in the formation just before the snap,
- 3:40Speaker 4: and then one of the guys who flipped Tilman gets
- 3:43Speaker 4: the penalty. So I mean, I think everything was pretty
- 3:47Speaker 4: well messed up on that play, and as a result,
- 3:51Speaker 4: they lost the game.
- 3:52Speaker 3: Jeff I loved what Vic had to say on Monday.
- 3:55Speaker 3: He said, you know, in that sixty yarder, he goes,
- 3:59Speaker 3: lift your helmet, just have a smoke goal?
- 4:01Speaker 2: All right, kid?
- 4:02Speaker 3: Do you do your worse go ahead kick it? I mean,
- 4:06Speaker 3: on that sixty yard why even try it? Why even
- 4:09Speaker 3: I know you want to win the game, but why
- 4:11Speaker 3: even remotely put yourself in that situation.
- 4:14Speaker 4: It's just not not good, you know, for a team
- 4:17Speaker 4: that talks about the little things and you know, making
- 4:21Speaker 4: good decisions at crunch time, that was just not a
- 4:24Speaker 4: good decision, you know, all around, and and even you
- 4:27Speaker 4: know again the players, you know, Jasa Rique and Tillman
- 4:32Speaker 4: switched spots on each side of the long snapper right
- 4:36Speaker 4: before the snap, and there's no reason to do that.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Either.
- 4:41Speaker 4: So I mean the whole thing was, uh, what's not
- 4:46Speaker 4: awesome for the Broncos, And you know again. You know,
- 4:49Speaker 4: we always talk sometimes people give us all grief for
- 4:54Speaker 4: getting lost in the minutia of things, but that is
- 4:57Speaker 4: one case where a very you know, a single play
- 5:01Speaker 4: had a big impact on how things went.
- 5:04Speaker 3: Hey, listen, I know it's a long season and I
- 5:07Speaker 3: don't want to get too far ahead of myself here,
- 5:09Speaker 3: but as the week has gone on, I look back
- 5:11Speaker 3: and go, you know, three and zero for one team
- 5:14Speaker 3: and one and two for the other team versus two
- 5:16Speaker 3: and one for both teams already, that seems like a
- 5:19Speaker 3: heck of a big difference to me in this competitive conference,
- 5:23Speaker 3: in this ultra competitive division. Really, how big? How big
- 5:27Speaker 3: can a game be? In week three?
- 5:31Speaker 2: Wow? Feel it back a little more.
- 5:34Speaker 4: Most If the Chargers win this game, that means they
- 5:38Speaker 4: will have won three AFC West games before October. Wow,
- 5:45Speaker 4: you only play six in the entire season, and they
- 5:49Speaker 4: will already have wins against everybody in the division before October.
- 5:55Speaker 2: I think it's a huge game.
- 5:57Speaker 4: If the Chargers win, they're in the driver's seat in
- 6:01Speaker 4: the division. They've won half their division games before October first,
- 6:05Speaker 4: and I'm not sure, you know, again, it's anecdotal, and
- 6:09Speaker 4: it's probably a good chance I've forgotten a lot of
- 6:13Speaker 4: crap in my forty seasons doing this, but I don't
- 6:16Speaker 4: remember a team playing three division opponents in the first
- 6:19Speaker 4: three weeks of a season.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Yeah, Jeff Lawell with this ESPN dot com. So le
- 6:25Speaker 1: you let me make a comparison real quick. So I'm
- 6:28Speaker 1: a big craft beer guy and all I wanted was
- 6:30Speaker 1: a cagurator and I finally got one a year ago,
- 6:32Speaker 1: and I was pumped about it. I never use it, never, never,
- 6:36Speaker 1: and I don't know why.
- 6:37Speaker 3: What is it? What is it? A cagerator? It's a
- 6:40Speaker 3: keg inside of a little fridge. Just go to your
- 6:42Speaker 3: poor beer like from a tap. Yes, it's like you were.
- 6:45Speaker 3: I was pumped.
- 6:45Speaker 1: It's all I've woned, like my entire life, and it is
- 6:47Speaker 1: one of one. I got one and I almost never.
- 6:49Speaker 3: Use it at the house. It's it's weird.
- 6:51Speaker 1: That's Evan Ingram. He's the He's the Broncos caggurator, like
- 6:54Speaker 1: they've wanted a tight end a quote joker forever. In
- 6:57Speaker 1: through two weeks he's barely getting targets.
- 6:59Speaker 3: That's going on.
- 7:01Speaker 4: Well, I mean now we don't know was he hurt
- 7:03Speaker 4: in the game. I mean he doesn't practice yesterday with
- 7:05Speaker 4: a back injury. You know, if he was hurt early
- 7:09Speaker 4: in the game, that explains a lot to me about
- 7:13Speaker 4: why that happened. So I don't I don't have a
- 7:17Speaker 4: good answer. I've asked some folks, But the head coach
- 7:22Speaker 4: is a little grumpy about the injury situation right now.
- 7:25Speaker 4: And look, I you know my personal opinion. This is
- 7:29Speaker 4: my personal opinion. No one has said this, this is
- 7:32Speaker 4: what I think. But I think he spent so much
- 7:35Speaker 4: time talking about how they had somehow found a solution
- 7:39Speaker 4: for injuries that when they have a few, I think
- 7:43Speaker 4: it makes him even more a little angry, a little
- 7:46Speaker 4: angrier than even most head coaches are. You know about
- 7:50Speaker 4: the bad luck of injuries, and they're having some bad
- 7:53Speaker 4: luck right now. Look at the practice report from yesterday.
- 7:56Speaker 4: You know, Ingram doesn't practice Greenlaw, doesn't practice green Laws,
- 8:01Speaker 4: backup doesn't practice justin Sternod.
- 8:03Speaker 2: You know, they're they're already.
- 8:05Speaker 4: Dealing with with injuries, you know, situations they didn't last year.
- 8:11Speaker 4: But my question on Ingram was was he injured early
- 8:15Speaker 4: in the game because his snapcount took a huge dip
- 8:19Speaker 4: and he did not look comfortable watching him walk out
- 8:23Speaker 4: of the locker room after the game.
- 8:26Speaker 2: You pretty much knew something was going on.
- 8:29Speaker 5: Let me take a page from the Brett Kine School
- 8:31Speaker 5: of analogies here and for this one. I bought an
- 8:34Speaker 5: infrared hot TUBSNA off of Facebook marketplace and it was
- 8:40Speaker 5: I don't.
- 8:40Speaker 2: Even know what the hell that is? What the hell infrared?
- 8:44Speaker 5: It was in high demand, A lot of people loved it.
- 8:47Speaker 5: The guy who let it goost it. I don't want
- 8:48Speaker 5: to let this go, but you know, my wife got
- 8:50Speaker 5: us another one. It's really nice. I couldn't get the
- 8:53Speaker 5: thing to work, and I don't know what the hell
- 8:55Speaker 5: was going on. Eventually I let it go. Is is
- 8:59Speaker 5: Drake Greenlaw the Broncos infrared hot tub sunnup right now?
- 9:03Speaker 3: Most you have a challenge now for your.
- 9:04Speaker 2: Next Yeah, yeah, go big or go home? Baby.
- 9:08Speaker 4: Uh you know, no, I think they fully understood this
- 9:12Speaker 4: was a potential.
- 9:14Speaker 2: You know, when they signed him.
- 9:15Speaker 4: He's the last three seasons this has been an issue
- 9:19Speaker 4: for Drake Greenlaw. Nobody questions his ability as a player
- 9:23Speaker 4: and his immediate impact he would have in the defense.
- 9:27Speaker 2: Uh when he plays.
- 9:28Speaker 4: But I think they knew and they signed him, and look,
- 9:32Speaker 4: you know, it's tons of money. It's forever money for
- 9:35Speaker 4: the rest of the world. But they got him at
- 9:38Speaker 4: a bargain, you know, in free agency, and they got
- 9:42Speaker 4: him at a bargain for this issue. So I don't
- 9:45Speaker 4: think any of this is shocking to the Broncos. I
- 9:48Speaker 4: you know, the fact Sean Payton used the word nebulous
- 9:52Speaker 4: yesterday about the recovery. I think it's because this injury
- 9:56Speaker 4: is like a hamstring. You just every single players is
- 10:00Speaker 4: going to recover at a different rate and there's just
- 10:04Speaker 4: no predicting it. And I think that's where they're at
- 10:07Speaker 4: right now. I mean, he practiced Friday, so you thought
- 10:11Speaker 4: he was, you know, doing better, and then he didn't
- 10:15Speaker 4: practice yesterday. So I've seen a lot of guys over
- 10:19Speaker 4: the years with these kinds of big muscle injuries where
- 10:25Speaker 4: they feel good, they feel better, and then all of
- 10:27Speaker 4: a sudden they try to really open it up and
- 10:30Speaker 4: run and then suddenly they don't feel better anymore.
- 10:33Speaker 2: So I don't think this is a shock.
- 10:35Speaker 4: I think they're hoping they just get them in a
- 10:38Speaker 4: place where, you know, when he gets back on the field,
- 10:41Speaker 4: he can stay there the rest of the way.
- 10:43Speaker 1: Did Ultra did Like Ultra journalists Jeff Legwald, mosh, just
- 10:49Speaker 1: drop a drake Greenlaws a slow healer on all?
- 10:53Speaker 3: Is that what he did?
- 10:55Speaker 2: I think now you're doing the radio thing now where
- 11:01Speaker 2: you're like carve up the pie and radio. Yeah, old radio.
- 11:07Speaker 4: You know it would be better if you just shouted immediately,
- 11:11Speaker 4: you know, just start.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Shouting right now. Hey, Jeff, I not say that.
- 11:15Speaker 4: I said every single player heals thighs and hamstrings.
- 11:19Speaker 2: Differently.
- 11:22Speaker 3: You're driving me crazy, you know what, hang on hand,
- 11:23Speaker 3: hang on for anything else.
- 11:25Speaker 1: I just want to say I was just joking, Jeff.
- 11:28Speaker 1: I feel like you're legitimately scolding me.
- 11:31Speaker 3: There.
- 11:31Speaker 2: I I'm getting. I'm getting my car right now, coming over.
- 11:36Speaker 5: I'm lost slow I'm knowing on the show is the
- 11:42Speaker 5: slow healer.
- 11:43Speaker 2: So like I don't have enough problems out here right now?
- 11:46Speaker 3: All right, Hey, Jeff, I bought this new fairway would
- 11:50Speaker 3: and I think, you know, I probably should use a
- 11:53Speaker 3: little bit, you know, certainly when I when I'm in
- 11:56Speaker 3: the rough. But I just I can't help but go
- 11:59Speaker 3: back to my four iron and my five iron open
- 12:01Speaker 3: that I can just pound those down the middle and
- 12:04Speaker 3: be a little bit safer. Is my new fairway woulds
- 12:08Speaker 3: sort of like the Broncos run game, where you know,
- 12:10Speaker 3: I I got a couple new fairway woods, but I
- 12:13Speaker 3: just I can't seem to use them or will use
- 12:16Speaker 3: them as much as I I need to. Can they
- 12:19Speaker 3: do yeah? Can they do that again? Can they use
- 12:22Speaker 3: their fairway woods against the Chargers team that has been
- 12:24Speaker 3: pretty damn good against the run? Jeff, I mean, let's
- 12:26Speaker 3: not let's not mince words about it. The Chargers defense
- 12:29Speaker 3: is good.
- 12:31Speaker 4: They're physical. Yeah, you know, now losing Mac doesn't help
- 12:34Speaker 4: them any but he's a He's a big piece of
- 12:38Speaker 4: of what they're doing. But they they play defense sort
- 12:41Speaker 4: of the old way, huge up front, and they don't
- 12:45Speaker 4: like uh, they don't like adding people to the pass rush.
- 12:50Speaker 4: They like the and they don't like adding people to
- 12:53Speaker 4: the you know, down near the line of scrimmage to
- 12:55Speaker 4: defend the run. They want to play a lot of
- 12:58Speaker 4: people in coverage. They want to keep all the plays
- 13:00Speaker 4: in front of them, and they want to defend the
- 13:02Speaker 4: run with with six players for the most part, and
- 13:06Speaker 4: they get away with it. You know, nobody's been able
- 13:09Speaker 4: to at least into two weeks, nobody has run them
- 13:13Speaker 4: out of that too deep shell look and that's the
- 13:16Speaker 4: you know, that's the old adage. If you want people
- 13:19Speaker 4: to quit playing too deep on you, you got to
- 13:22Speaker 4: run them out of it. And you know, can the
- 13:24Speaker 4: Broncos do that? I saw an awful lot of good
- 13:27Speaker 4: things from Dobbins, you know, in the game Sunday and again,
- 13:32Speaker 4: you know, we're going to keep talking about this until
- 13:34Speaker 4: they do it. But I think they're very proficient at
- 13:37Speaker 4: running the ball, and you know, at some point, I
- 13:41Speaker 4: think it would help bo Nicks too. I mean, they
- 13:44Speaker 4: they have a high play action rate right now with
- 13:46Speaker 4: Bo a lot higher than they were at this point
- 13:49Speaker 4: last year. So I think he's in the top five
- 13:53Speaker 4: or six qbs in the league right now in play action.
- 13:56Speaker 4: So they are trying that, but I think would only
- 14:00Speaker 4: help all of it, uh, and settle him down even
- 14:04Speaker 4: a little more. Uh, if they would just dive in
- 14:08Speaker 4: and and commit to the you know, to the run
- 14:11Speaker 4: a little more your fairway would it's probably your front shoulder,
- 14:15Speaker 4: most your flyaway on that.
- 14:17Speaker 2: You got to knock it off, right, Jeff.
- 14:20Speaker 1: Last thing for you, I always appreciate the time. I
- 14:24Speaker 1: know it's week three, Allow me to overreact for a second, because.
- 14:28Speaker 2: It just don't do any radio things.
- 14:30Speaker 3: It looks bad.
- 14:32Speaker 1: Could Mike McDaniel be walking the plank tonight if things
- 14:35Speaker 1: go really poorly against the Bills.
- 14:38Speaker 4: Well, you know, it's that's really early, that Canna co.
- 14:40Speaker 4: I mean, we've seen it in college football already. I
- 14:42Speaker 4: mean two guys, you know what, Virginia.
- 14:44Speaker 2: Tech and u C l A.
- 14:46Speaker 4: Foster La. Yeah, I've already h handled business. But that's
- 14:51Speaker 4: really early in an NFL season, you know, because now
- 14:55Speaker 4: you've got to get an interim and now the coaches
- 14:58Speaker 4: left behind. But he's certainly you know that that owner
- 15:03Speaker 4: is known to be, you know, sort of emotional about
- 15:06Speaker 4: the team's success and not much patience. You also don't
- 15:12Speaker 4: like the you know, as much as I hate judging
- 15:15Speaker 4: things by the optics of things, I'm not a big
- 15:18Speaker 4: fan of that. But there's been some of that, you know,
- 15:23Speaker 4: when he answers, you know, his answers are always under scrutiny. Now,
- 15:28Speaker 4: you know, a year ago it was witty and it
- 15:30Speaker 4: was funny and it was out of the box. And
- 15:32Speaker 4: now suddenly people are questioning every part of his leadership
- 15:37Speaker 4: ability because of how he answers questions. And I never
- 15:41Speaker 4: think that's always a hard thing for a guy to
- 15:43Speaker 4: recover from. All that can save you from any of it,
- 15:47Speaker 4: of course, is winning games.
- 15:49Speaker 1: Yeah, what's the old saying, the reason they hire you
- 15:53Speaker 1: will be the reason they fire you sort of thing.
- 15:54Speaker 1: And that's Mike McDaniel k I always wondered, like the
- 15:58Speaker 1: little cute c presscomt for stuff, I go, what happens
- 16:01Speaker 1: when they start to lose a few games?
- 16:02Speaker 3: Does that hit the same way? Yeah, you're you're, you're unique,
- 16:05Speaker 3: you're you're whatever word you want to use when you lose,
- 16:08Speaker 3: you're a weirdy. Yeah, that's kind of how it is.
- 16:10Speaker 3: I mean, he says some weird things, man, and okay.
- 16:13Speaker 2: What else?
- 16:14Speaker 4: Well, man, like we went through it here. Look at
- 16:18Speaker 4: look at the you know, the conversation when Nathaniel Hackett
- 16:21Speaker 4: is hired, and look at the conversation when the Nathaniel
- 16:25Speaker 4: Hackett is fired.
- 16:26Speaker 1: Jeff Lagwall joins us every single Thursday nine o'clock. Always
- 16:29Speaker 1: appreciate time, Leggie, thank you.
- 16:31Speaker 2: I'd say, you're a slow.
- 16:35Speaker 3: Thank you by Leggy.
- 16:37Speaker 2: I'm gonna go get to work now. He sounds good.
- 16:40Speaker 3: Good work.
- 16:41Speaker 1: Jeff Lagwall A Conversations with Leggy brought to you by
- 16:43Speaker 1: the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers ib e W Local
- 16:46Speaker 1: sixty eight, start with a job and with the career.
- 16:48Speaker 1: Make no mistake, LAKEWLD was pissed at.
- 16:50Speaker 3: Me, yes, even inferring that he said anything like that.
- 16:56Speaker 1: I've never I've never been scolded by Leggy like that
- 16:59Speaker 1: before he.
- 17:00Speaker 5: Was doing that radio things like.
- 17:04Speaker 3: What joking is making a joke? I like it. I'm like,
- 17:08Speaker 3: you know, you need some of that something, you know what? Else?
- 17:10Speaker 1: It just goes because I killed him ultra journalists before
- 17:13Speaker 1: that too, which I think, yeah, threw an extra in there.
- 17:17Speaker 5: It goes to prove once again. And we've we've had
- 17:19Speaker 5: a lot of put downs, We've had a lot of
- 17:21Speaker 5: things we've called each other on this show. I don't
- 17:23Speaker 5: think there's anything slow healer demeaning then slow healing.
- 17:27Speaker 3: But did it again? Not necessarily a It just sounds
- 17:30Speaker 3: really bad, like it sounds like an extreme pejoradan, But
