- 0:39SPEAKER_06: Welcome in everybody to the Talking Tech Podcast.
- 0:42SPEAKER_06: I am your host, Steven Rodriguez.
- 0:44SPEAKER_06: My co-host, Tristan McGonagall is here.
- 0:46SPEAKER_06: Tristan, what's up, man?
- 0:49SPEAKER_05: My favorite college football team has 10 wins, Steven.
- 0:55SPEAKER_05: Ten.
- 0:55SPEAKER_05: That's how many fingers I have.
- 0:59SPEAKER_06: Double digits.
- 1:00SPEAKER_05: Double digits.
- 1:01SPEAKER_06: Double digits.
- 1:06SPEAKER_06: Since 2008.
- 1:08SPEAKER_06: Double digits.
- 1:09SPEAKER_05: That's pretty cool.
- 1:11SPEAKER_06: Pretty cool.
- 1:12SPEAKER_06: That's pretty cool.
- 1:13SPEAKER_05: That's pretty that's pretty cool.
- 1:14SPEAKER_06: Before we get into reflection and celebration, because we're gonna do a lot of that today.
- 1:20SPEAKER_06: Meditation.
- 1:21SPEAKER_06: Meditation, indignation.
- 1:24SPEAKER_06: Does that fit?
- 1:25SPEAKER_06: I don't know.
- 1:27SPEAKER_06: I wanted I don't I wanted another one.
- 1:29SPEAKER_06: Um we have to do something because we want another football game.
- 1:33SPEAKER_06: What is it that we have to do?
- 1:35SPEAKER_05: You have to play the bad recording of the song.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: Red Raider coming at you rides with a fury of the West Texas wins.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: Texas Red Raiders ride again.
- 1:57SPEAKER_06: I didn't want you to say that.
- 1:59SPEAKER_06: I like the bad recording.
- 2:01SPEAKER_05: I know you do.
- 2:02SPEAKER_06: I like that one.
- 2:03SPEAKER_05: They have a clean one that's not off some guy's terrible jacked-up record or ruined audio.
- 2:10SPEAKER_06: That's that's what makes that song so much better.
- 2:13SPEAKER_06: The the terrible recording, honestly, if you listen to the real version, no, you're doing it wrong.
- 2:19SPEAKER_06: Listen to the bad recording version.
- 2:21SPEAKER_06: Red Raider was coming at you, and Tristan, before we just get into everything else, I have to admit something.
- 2:30SPEAKER_06: And I'm ashamed of myself.
- 2:32SPEAKER_06: Uh my wife said me.
- 2:33SPEAKER_05: Lots of things are feeling at the end of your sentence before you're speaking them for me in my mind.
- 2:38SPEAKER_05: Like there's a lot of ways for that to go.
- 2:40SPEAKER_05: I'm ashamed to admit it.
- 2:42SPEAKER_06: I'm ashamed.
- 2:43SPEAKER_06: Uh but I argued with strangers on the internet.
- 2:47SPEAKER_05: I saw that.
- 2:48SPEAKER_05: Not your style.
- 2:50SPEAKER_06: Not my style, not something I do very often.
- 2:53SPEAKER_06: It's something that I've thought about doing, uh, you know, fairly, fairly frequently, but I usually have enough wherewithal to stop myself.
- 3:04SPEAKER_06: Good word.
- 3:04SPEAKER_06: And this week I fed in, I fed into it, and it was disgusting.
- 3:11SPEAKER_06: I'm ashamed of myself, um, even though I was right on every single point.
- 3:16SPEAKER_06: And uh, I got into it with a lot of longhorns and a lot of aggies this week.
- 3:20SPEAKER_05: Steven, as Monster Energy Company says, sometimes you've got to unleash the beasts, and I applaud you for unleashing the beast onto our numbskulls east of our school.
- 3:34SPEAKER_05: I appreciate that.
- 3:35SPEAKER_06: Look, it started off because tech killed UCF, which we'll talk about.
- 3:39SPEAKER_06: This is a podcast.
- 3:41SPEAKER_06: Central Florida was absolutely stomped on by Raya Red and the boys.
- 3:48SPEAKER_06: Um but outside of that, the Texas Longhorns got stomped on by the Georgia Bulldogs, and me being a certified hater, took in a lot of the content that was being put out there celebrating and stomping on the graves of the Longhorns.
- 4:07SPEAKER_06: And am I proud of it?
- 4:09SPEAKER_06: Not really, but I did enjoy it.
- 4:13SPEAKER_06: And with that, with all the attention coming the horns' way, as per usual, but this time in a negative sense, I responded to a couple Longhorn beat riders um and personalities on the bird app, now known as the X app.
- 4:35SPEAKER_06: And a burner.
- 4:36SPEAKER_06: And and a yes, personalities, I should say.
- 4:40SPEAKER_06: Okay, okay.
- 4:41SPEAKER_06: Uh and and I I feel like I did pretty well, but also uh the Longhorn tears were very tasty this week.
- 4:48SPEAKER_06: Steven, you ratioed them.
- 4:51SPEAKER_06: I ratioed both of them.
- 4:52SPEAKER_06: I ratioed Jeff Ketchup, and that makes me pretty happy.
- 4:56SPEAKER_05: I can't, I mean, the Pokemon man, the bald, fat Pokemon man that covers the Longhorns.
- 5:01SPEAKER_06: He's not fat.
- 5:02SPEAKER_05: He's not that fat.
- 5:03SPEAKER_05: Is that no?
- 5:04SPEAKER_06: I actually his profile picture doesn't do him a lot of justice, but I did actually tune in to the Orange Blood's uh whatever their show is, their post-game reaction thing that they put on X.
- 5:15SPEAKER_05: Is it just average?
- 5:16SPEAKER_05: He's not sorry.
- 5:17SPEAKER_05: That was that was mean of me.
- 5:19SPEAKER_05: I was being spirited.
- 5:20SPEAKER_06: You know, if you're gonna insult Jeff Ketchup, you have to insult Jeff Ketchup in the proper way, and that's for his bad football takes.
- 5:27SPEAKER_05: Yeah, absolutely.
- 5:28SPEAKER_05: Well, uh Steven, if if it makes you feel any better, I don't think you were out of line at all.
- 5:32SPEAKER_05: I think all this was actually quite reserved.
- 5:34SPEAKER_05: I think you were just spitting the facts.
- 5:36SPEAKER_06: It was the responses that got to me.
- 5:38SPEAKER_06: It was it's the fact that I actually responded to people that responded to the tweet, and it clearly got out there and went a little, you know, get a thousand or so likes.
- 5:47SPEAKER_06: And so obviously that's gonna get over to the longhorn and the and the Aggie uh depths, the cesspool that is Twitter.
- 5:56SPEAKER_06: Um, and yeah, I responded to a few too many, and I just got uh I got a little too consumed, so I apologize to everybody.
- 6:02SPEAKER_05: Well, I did I like I said, I really don't think you went over the edge whatsoever.
- 6:07SPEAKER_05: Um, if I mean if anything, I think it could have been a lot meaner.
- 6:10SPEAKER_05: Because I mean, when we look at some of these replies, you know, they're being much meaner in in uh in their replies, you know, the stuff they just ignore and move on from.
- 6:17SPEAKER_06: I mean, yeah, we're all we're all guilty of I'm more I'm more upset at myself than anything for letting for for letting them, you know, just just feeding into their their disgustingness.
- 6:29SPEAKER_05: The good the good news is I think it's a reflection of reality because what's what's going on here is the Longhorns are clearly frustrated, but they don't really want to admit it.
- 6:40SPEAKER_05: You know, like they like this is a disappointing season.
- 6:42SPEAKER_05: There's no way around it.
- 6:44SPEAKER_05: You know, all things considered, it's not a bad season.
- 6:47SPEAKER_05: I mean, what they're what how how many games have they won?
- 6:49SPEAKER_05: Eight, nine?
- 6:50SPEAKER_06: There's seven, there's seven and three.
- 6:51SPEAKER_05: Seven and three.
- 6:52SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 6:53SPEAKER_05: So um the only reason why this is like getting a supremely disappointing season is you are number one preseason and you're touted as the greatest college football team to ever exist.
- 7:04SPEAKER_05: And you're gonna have the second coming of Jesus Christ at quarterback um leading the way.
- 7:11SPEAKER_05: So I I think I think all the uh the backlash onto them is deserved, especially whenever you have your biggest in-state rivals in the Aggs and the Red Raiders just absolutely having a season of dreams right now in both cases.
- 7:24SPEAKER_05: Um it's it's gotta be frustrating.
- 7:26SPEAKER_05: So it's it's funny to see you kind of you know pop them a little bit because it's they need to be reminded that you know, no, you're you're not this, you're not that guy.
- 7:36SPEAKER_06: Well, and look, well, and look, man, I'm a pretty realistic guy.
- 7:40SPEAKER_06: I want people to be realistic.
- 7:43SPEAKER_06: And unfortunately, when the horns are losing, they're not very realistic.
- 7:47SPEAKER_06: I'm not saying there's like a a massive amount of Texas Tech fans that aren't realistic, you know what I'm saying?
- 7:53SPEAKER_05: We're all level-headed people, we're we're beautiful, we're in great shape, and handsome and very beautiful, and uh all all high triple-digit IQs.
- 8:05SPEAKER_06: But I'm just like, why are you guys still talking about Ohio State?
- 8:09SPEAKER_06: Stop talking about Ohio State.
- 8:10SPEAKER_06: You lost to Florida, that's your problem.
- 8:13SPEAKER_06: That you lost to Florida.
- 8:14SPEAKER_06: If you if you beat Florida, if you beat the three and seven Florida Gators, you'd be just fine.
- 8:20SPEAKER_06: And we'd be talking about the Longhorns as a seed right now in the college football playoff.
- 8:25SPEAKER_06: But unfortunately, you didn't.
- 8:26SPEAKER_06: And then you got boat raced by Georgia this week.
- 8:30SPEAKER_06: So you you don't have an argument.
- 8:32SPEAKER_06: Stop trying to worry about scheduling non-conference opponents that actually have some caliber to them.
- 8:37SPEAKER_05: This whining happens every year after uh, you know, at the end of the year, whatever uh a big a big pre-conference matchup happens, you know, in in Ohio State and UT.
- 8:48SPEAKER_05: The losing team at the end of the year is always doing this routine, by the way.
- 8:53SPEAKER_06: Oh we're never gonna it was it was all missed last year.
- 8:56SPEAKER_06: It's yeah, Texas and several others this year.
- 8:59SPEAKER_05: It's it's it happens every single year.
- 9:01SPEAKER_05: It's just a cope.
- 9:02SPEAKER_05: Uh you're trying to blame your bad season and getting disrespected on, oh, we're we we we we we went too big in the preseason, the pre-conference, and now we're being punished for it.
- 9:14SPEAKER_05: And it's always leaving out the inconvenient truth that they dropped an absolute stinker of a game.
- 9:19SPEAKER_05: Like, and everyone knows that's what it's actually about, but they try to redirect the attention to a really big game that they just happened to have came out on the losing side of.
- 9:30SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 9:30SPEAKER_06: No, I mean, if anything, people came a little impressed with Texas for only losing by a touchdown to Ohio State and Columbus.
- 9:38SPEAKER_06: Like, yeah, that that was not an issue.
- 9:41SPEAKER_06: The issue came when you lost to Florida and you were disappointing, went to overtime on Kentucky, uh, needed a miracle to beat Mississippi State.
- 9:48SPEAKER_06: Like, there's been a lot of bad stuff that has happened for the Texas Longhorns this year, and they have not shown even a little bit that they belong in the college football playoff.
- 9:57SPEAKER_05: I mean, yeah, no, no, continue.
- 10:00SPEAKER_05: No, no, no.
- 10:01SPEAKER_05: You go ahead.
- 10:01SPEAKER_05: No, I was gonna say is uh, yeah, exactly.
- 10:03SPEAKER_05: I think uh that was a great springboard there because you know, it wasn't even just the Florida game.
- 10:07SPEAKER_05: After that, I mean they they got way too much respect after the Ohio State game because for the longest time they hung around in the top 25, barely getting by.
- 10:15SPEAKER_05: And it was like immediately exposed that their offense has real issues, that this offense cannot score and they cannot put away lesser opponents, and their defense is good, but other than that, man, it's just this is not a team that's playing in the playoffs.
- 10:29SPEAKER_05: And I'm I'm happy that we are we're talking about the Longhorns probably too much on this Texas Tech podcast right now.
- 10:34SPEAKER_05: But dude, it's it's it's good to revel in the orange tears.
- 10:38SPEAKER_06: Well, as you say, rent-free.
- 10:40SPEAKER_06: Um yeah, we got I got a lot of things.
- 10:42SPEAKER_06: Rent is due.
- 10:43SPEAKER_05: Rent is due.
- 10:44SPEAKER_06: Rent is due.
- 10:45SPEAKER_06: Let's talk about Texas Tech.
- 10:47SPEAKER_06: How about that?
- 10:49SPEAKER_06: I did a little self-reflection this weekend before I got into my Twitter escapades during the week.
- 10:56SPEAKER_06: We went to Worstfest here in New Bromfels on Sunday.
- 10:59SPEAKER_06: Uh, had a great time.
- 11:01SPEAKER_06: It's always a great time.
- 11:03SPEAKER_06: And I wore a Texas Tech shirt.
- 11:06SPEAKER_06: You know, rooting for the boys.
- 11:08SPEAKER_06: They're just coming off a big win, 10 and 1, you know, first time double digits in a long time.
- 11:13SPEAKER_06: And I had, I kid you not, eight to ten people give me a guns up or give me a hey, this season's awesome, you know, really fun.
- 11:23SPEAKER_06: Had several conversations with strangers in real life uh about our really good football team.
- 11:29SPEAKER_06: And so it put me in a good mood and it put me in a little self-reflection because I think we all kind of do this.
- 11:35SPEAKER_06: And and you know, just a little uh reminder here there's a lot of season left.
- 11:40SPEAKER_06: We still have to play West Virginia, we still have to play in potentially the Big 12 title game, potentially even further in the college football playoffs.
- 11:47SPEAKER_06: So there's a lot more season ahead of us, but I do think it's nice to smell the roses a little bit and realize that this program right now has complete and utter alignment as far as the top dogs, Kirby Hokutt, all the donors, Cody Campbell, John Sellers, Gary Peterson, Dustin Womble, all those guys, James Blanchard, the general manager, Joey McGuire, the head coach, Sheel Wood, Macleff, which your coordinators, all the way down to your players and your positional coaches.
- 12:24SPEAKER_06: Everybody is completely aligned right now.
- 12:28SPEAKER_06: And that is such a rare thing to achieve.
- 12:31SPEAKER_06: You've seen great programs, great teams, not in full alignment.
- 12:36SPEAKER_06: You've seen internal conflict, and still somehow, because of resources or because of talent, you get past some of those, you know, potential hurdles.
- 12:47SPEAKER_06: This team right now, from the bottom to the top, is completely aligned, and I'm thrilled with what we're watching.
- 12:54SPEAKER_05: Hey, and you left out one faction as well.
- 12:57SPEAKER_06: What's that?
- 12:58SPEAKER_05: This great and amazing fan base of ours, dude.
- 13:01SPEAKER_05: Absolutely like we are all we're all in an alignment here.
- 13:03SPEAKER_05: And I like that you said that because you know what's ironic about this, dude, is you can't buy it.
- 13:09SPEAKER_05: But this is this is priceless.
- 13:10SPEAKER_05: This is what money cannot buy.
- 13:12SPEAKER_05: So, like, is this alignment?
- 13:13SPEAKER_05: Because if if it all if it all, if you could buy this sort of unity within a program, then there would be several very large brands that would be in perfect alignment at all times.
- 13:23SPEAKER_05: And you're we're beginning to see some cracks really start to appear around the country, and one right down the road at our biggest rival in Waco.
- 13:30SPEAKER_05: Uh, that is a a picture perfect university of uh one that is not in alignment all the way down to the bottom, like from top to bottom.
- 13:38SPEAKER_05: So I really I really like that you you pointed that out, dude.
- 13:41SPEAKER_05: And while we're on the fans, real quick, can I just can I just uh do a little side chapter here, a little footnote, a little PS?
- 13:47SPEAKER_05: Um so uh it's really cool that all those people were stopping you to give you a guns up or go rec of tech and uh talk about the season real quick.
- 13:54SPEAKER_05: Um and I've been experiencing the same thing, you know, like if whenever I'm out running an error and especially on gay day, I'm gonna throw on a double T, of course.
- 14:00SPEAKER_05: Um, and the amount of people that you know it's guns up, or if you see someone else, you're both wearing double T's, you give the guns up and go, Yeah, let's go, great season, blah, blah, blah.
- 14:07SPEAKER_05: But dude, this is gonna be kind of like a uh a bit of a humble brag about us um that may appear as kind of laughable to others.
- 14:15SPEAKER_05: But you know, I think the part of that, what's so special about that is A, we haven't been this good a long time, so we're really soaking it in.
- 14:22SPEAKER_05: And we, you know, we don't expect this glory every single year.
- 14:25SPEAKER_05: And B, um, I think this is also the fruits of being a fan base that's not nationally casual as well.
- 14:33SPEAKER_05: You know what I mean?
- 14:34SPEAKER_05: Like this, someone that's a Red Raider fan, it's rare we're gonna be like a true casual.
- 14:38SPEAKER_05: You know what I mean?
- 14:39SPEAKER_05: You're not really throwing on a double T to be a casual.
- 14:42SPEAKER_05: I don't think you'd have the same experience if you were a UT, an AG, an Irish, an Ohio State Buckeye.
- 14:50SPEAKER_05: I don't think you'd have that same experience walking around Worst Fest if you're having the season that we are.
- 14:54SPEAKER_05: Because I think everyone uh it's it's most people will throw that stuff on like it's nothing.
- 14:58SPEAKER_05: And even even if you'd ask them about the season, they go like, Oh, yeah, we're doing great.
- 15:02SPEAKER_05: Or uh, I mean, sure, I guess that's cool.
- 15:04SPEAKER_05: I just like you know, I just threw this on.
- 15:06SPEAKER_06: You know, so it's I really do think that actually, and no, sorry to cut you off.
- 15:10SPEAKER_06: No, actually, the majority of those the majority of those conversations between those programs are oh well, we'll see.
- 15:17SPEAKER_06: You know, friggin' arch is just not doing well right now, even though they're seven and three, you know, or I don't know, we log we dropped those two games at the beginning of the year, we'll see what seed we get if you're Notre Dame.
- 15:29SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 15:29SPEAKER_06: Oh, I don't know, you know, we barely beat South Carolina, even though you're sitting here at 10 and oh, you know, I think that's the conversations you're having with those types of fan bases because they've experienced and not AM.
- 15:40SPEAKER_06: First off, not AM.
- 15:42SPEAKER_06: Yeah, Texas and Notre Dame and those that have, you know, are are the massive brands of college football that have actually won national championships before.
- 15:51SPEAKER_05: Yeah, absolutely, dude.
- 15:52SPEAKER_05: That's that's one percent of the truth.
- 15:53SPEAKER_05: And I mean that and that's only if they know ball, too.
- 15:56SPEAKER_05: Like that's if that if the conversation even goes that deep, you know, like they have to even be in quasi even to be like quasi-engaged.
- 16:01SPEAKER_05: I just think it's kind of cool about uh a double, maybe that's a cope of us not being, you know, we're big, but we're not like that big.
- 16:07SPEAKER_05: So it's it's I think that's just kind of a nice, you know, appreciation for our fan base and the type of fans we are, is what I'm trying to say.
- 16:15SPEAKER_06: Yeah, no, I think everybody's really happy right now, and everybody's really thrilled, and we're also, you know, we're we're over the moon, but at the same time, you know, we've been hurt before, so we're being we're staying at least a little level headed from what I've seen.
- 16:29SPEAKER_06: Um, obviously, you know, a lot of people are going insane and really feeding into the hype and saying, you know, all this good stuff, which go for it.
- 16:36SPEAKER_06: We don't get a lot of these chances.
- 16:38SPEAKER_06: So full speed ahead, man.
- 16:40SPEAKER_05: Yeah, absolutely, dude.
- 16:40SPEAKER_05: And you know another note on that, I think what shows that you know we are taking this one step at a time is I obviously we are we're talking about the playoff.
- 16:47SPEAKER_05: It's hard not to, whenever you're the you're number five in the playoffs rankings, and you're a a dark horse favorite to do some crazy stuff in the postseason, especially due to this defense.
- 16:57SPEAKER_05: But I don't think there's a Red Raider fan out there who is looking past the Big 12 championship.
- 17:03SPEAKER_05: I think we all really, really want that trophy.
- 17:06SPEAKER_05: I think that this trophy means a lot more to us than those other fans that we were just talking about.
- 17:12SPEAKER_05: Um, that uh being able to get over that hump and get our first title as the members of the as founding members of the Big 12 conference uh and finally put that into the trophy case, I think would mean a lot.
- 17:25SPEAKER_05: And I think it would be a huge bump to program morale.
- 17:28SPEAKER_05: I know it's already high, but to finally notch that into your belt that you have hardware in this sport, I think that really means something to us.
- 17:36SPEAKER_05: And I I think that we are locked in.
- 17:39SPEAKER_05: I don't think anyone is overlooking West Virginia next week.
- 17:43SPEAKER_05: And as you say, dude, the alignment is so uh is so strong that I don't think you can catch us sleeping like you caught um the AG sleeping against the Cox or uh dropping an ugly game there.
- 17:55SPEAKER_05: I I just I think that we are fully locked into the mission right now.
- 18:01SPEAKER_06: Yeah, no, I think you you said it beautifully.
- 18:03SPEAKER_06: Part of the reason also that you're doing so well and that there's there's such alignment within the fan base and within uh the team and everybody's kind of hand in hand.
- 18:14SPEAKER_06: Home dominance.
- 18:15SPEAKER_06: You're seven-o.
- 18:16SPEAKER_06: You finished seven and oh, and potentially maybe even one more home game coming up.
- 18:20SPEAKER_06: You've sold out every single game.
- 18:23SPEAKER_06: You have the tortilla debacle that our fan base absolutely just completely stopped doing to avoid penalties, which I think I think the people that have been going to these games deserve a lot of credit for doing that.
- 18:35SPEAKER_06: Um, I haven't seen one tortilla and give credit to the stadium staff and Julia McGuire and the administration that is you know really stopping what could have been, you know, a bad thing for a potential BYU game, or even against UCF.
- 18:51SPEAKER_06: So that was a big deal.
- 18:53SPEAKER_06: You had Raiderville back where students were camped out for an entire week before BYU.
- 18:59SPEAKER_06: You've had drones, you've had a smoke show, you've had live the music, the lights, everything that goes on to make that game day experience immaculate.
- 19:10SPEAKER_06: Texas Tech has done a an elite, an A plus job this season with everything.
- 19:16SPEAKER_05: So are you are you are you alluding to me as a smoke show?
- 19:20SPEAKER_06: Not you.
- 19:23SPEAKER_06: You made you made everything actually a little worse on game day.
- 19:27SPEAKER_06: Uh no, I'm just kidding.
- 19:29SPEAKER_06: It was great to be there with you.
- 19:30SPEAKER_06: Oh but thank you.
- 19:32SPEAKER_06: I got you, man.
- 19:34SPEAKER_06: Uh no, you were dominant at home, and that's what you need to do to build your fan base and give them more hype.
- 19:39SPEAKER_05: So you're undefeated at home, dog.
- 19:41SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it's great.
- 19:44SPEAKER_05: No, no, no.
- 19:45SPEAKER_05: You're never supposed to lose, you know.
- 19:46SPEAKER_05: Like in that, like you said, that is how you get the fans engaged, and that's how you get season ticket sales up, and that's how you make it home field environment, dude.
- 19:54SPEAKER_05: As you just ran through, dude.
- 19:56SPEAKER_05: And I I I wonder when the last time we went completely undefeated at home was.
- 20:00SPEAKER_06: That's I don't have I don't have that number in front of me.
- 20:03SPEAKER_06: Jamie, pull that up.
- 20:04SPEAKER_06: Jamie is off today.
- 20:07SPEAKER_06: So yeah, sorry.
- 20:09SPEAKER_05: Our producer took a day off on the one day we recorded.
- 20:12SPEAKER_06: Unbelievable, right?
- 20:15SPEAKER_06: Let's talk about UCF for a second, and then we got some more big picture stuff coming up.
- 20:20SPEAKER_06: But UCF, we beat them uh pretty handily.
- 20:24SPEAKER_06: 48 to 9.
- 20:26SPEAKER_06: Yikes, Scott Frost.
- 20:29SPEAKER_06: This was never in doubt.
- 20:31SPEAKER_06: Not even from the we scored in four plays.
- 20:34SPEAKER_06: Uh went up 7-0, then went up 14-0, and then it was just a bad day for Scott Frost and the fellas.
- 20:43SPEAKER_06: Senior day.
- 20:44SPEAKER_06: So emotional as always, because you're losing a lot of players that uh, you know, their last game in the Jones, um, they've been such a and this has been such an unbelievable, you know, once in a while team that comes around.
- 20:59SPEAKER_06: I want to give a shout out.
- 21:00SPEAKER_06: We're we'll give a shout out to the the normal guys that deserve their their flowers.
- 21:05SPEAKER_06: But some underrated seniors here, due to banks got a sack in this game, has taken a backseat role this entire and this is a common theme with a lot of these players that I'm gonna talk about here, but got a sack in the UCF game, was a starter last season on not a very good defense, but stayed at Texas Tech, accepted a backseat role when he saw the type of you know, talent that we brought in via the transfer portal, and still just put his head down and went to work.
- 21:37SPEAKER_06: I haven't seen him complain.
- 21:39SPEAKER_06: There's been no talks of these any of these guys potentially, hey, I'm gonna enter the portal mid season and try to save a year of eligibility, you know, medical redshirt, whatever.
- 21:48SPEAKER_06: We've seen a lot of these guys.
- 21:49SPEAKER_06: These are not these are not those guys.
- 21:52SPEAKER_06: Duda Banks deserves a lot of credit for what he's brought to Texas Tech.
- 21:56SPEAKER_06: How about Bryce Ramirez?
- 21:58SPEAKER_06: Bryce Ramirez, the Lubbock legend.
- 22:02SPEAKER_06: Obviously, we know his story.
- 22:04SPEAKER_06: Terrible, awful injury a few years ago in Raleigh against NC State.
- 22:09SPEAKER_06: Comes back, roots on the sideline, diehard Red Raider, gets the number three last year because he's a leader of the emotional leader of this team.
- 22:18SPEAKER_06: Again, took a backseat role because of the emergence of Ben Roberts, the emergence of John Curry, obviously Jacob Rodriguez, and hasn't really played much this season.
- 22:28SPEAKER_06: And still is a great red raider.
- 22:31SPEAKER_06: Awesome dude, awesome person.
- 22:33SPEAKER_06: AJ McCarty, another guy who played a lot last year, does not play so much this year.
- 22:38SPEAKER_06: He's on defense, you know, here or there.
- 22:41SPEAKER_06: He's on special teams.
- 22:42SPEAKER_06: You know, he's been playing a lot of special teams this season just to get on the field.
- 22:45SPEAKER_06: He deserves a lot of credit.
- 22:46SPEAKER_06: Terrell Tillman, who is an edge rusher behind Romello Hype, David Bailey, has still made some plays this year, but again, has had to take a backseat role.
- 22:56SPEAKER_06: John Carlos Miller, who was our uh a pretty solid player for us last season in the pass catching game, has taken a complete blocking role.
- 23:05SPEAKER_06: We've in we've integrated him here or there, but obviously with the emergence of Terrence Carter, John Carlos Miller has kind of gotten on the back burner a little bit.
- 23:13SPEAKER_06: Davion Carter just being a uh an offensive lineman.
- 23:16SPEAKER_06: Sometimes you don't get the credit that you deserve.
- 23:18SPEAKER_06: He's been an awesome Red Raider.
- 23:20SPEAKER_06: Charles Esters, Jack Burgess, the punter.
- 23:23SPEAKER_06: These guys deserve a lot of props for what they've done for this program and accepting a role on this team.
- 23:31SPEAKER_05: Steven, did you cry?
- 23:33SPEAKER_06: Maybe a little.
- 23:34SPEAKER_05: Maybe a little get a little misty.
- 23:36SPEAKER_06: Maybe I got a little misty when I saw Bryce Ramirez force a fumble against ECF.
- 23:39SPEAKER_06: I was a little hyped up when that happened.
- 23:41SPEAKER_06: Uh, really, really happy for these guys.
- 23:44SPEAKER_05: Absolutely, dude.
- 23:44SPEAKER_05: And I I do appreciate that you took the time to put them all out.
- 23:47SPEAKER_05: Um, it's it's really cool to see guys to stick through a stick with the school the whole time, you know, and just really grind through it and understand whenever you're you maybe you you are gonna be uh a backup screen position at that point.
- 23:59SPEAKER_05: Uh, you keep hearing over and over again from these reporters that these guys know they realize when another player is better than they are.
- 24:06SPEAKER_05: Okay, it's not like it comes as a shock whenever you get this, these new uh new talented dudes in.
- 24:11SPEAKER_05: And perhaps your your your role isn't so much on the field, but maybe more in the locker room and in the culture at that point, you know.
- 24:17SPEAKER_05: And it's just it's really cool to see these guys let that happen and let tech have this moment, you know, rather than trying to make it about themselves.
- 24:24SPEAKER_05: They made it about the team the whole time.
- 24:25SPEAKER_05: So it's that's just hats off to him, dude.
- 24:28SPEAKER_05: We're gonna miss them all.
- 24:29SPEAKER_05: And uh you can't thank them enough for this magical season that they've still been a part of, you know.
- 24:35SPEAKER_05: So it's it it backups are still an important part of the team.
- 24:38SPEAKER_05: So uh hats off to him, dude.
- 24:40SPEAKER_06: 100%.
- 24:42SPEAKER_06: Skylar Gil Howard Sr.
- 24:44SPEAKER_06: Uh I think he's still looking to play next year via medical red shirt, or maybe if this five by five rule passes.
- 24:51SPEAKER_06: So maybe we haven't seen the last of Skylar Gil Howard in a Red Raider uniform in the Jones.
- 24:57SPEAKER_06: Uh, still not sure if he's potentially still planning on suiting up for you know the postseason.
- 25:03SPEAKER_06: That's still a little bit away.
- 25:04SPEAKER_06: But um, if that is the last time we've seen Skylar Gil Howard, awesome dude, awesome player.
- 25:09SPEAKER_06: Caleb Douglas has been great his two years here.
- 25:13SPEAKER_06: Um, obviously, some ups and downs um in the Red Raider uniform, but he's still a really good wide receiver, still a go-to guy for Barron.
- 25:23SPEAKER_06: Definitely plays better when Barron is on the field.
- 25:25SPEAKER_06: And unfortunately for him, he's had to deal with a little bit of QB uh switching up this season.
- 25:31SPEAKER_06: But uh CD has made some highlight plays and been a really good player.
- 25:34SPEAKER_06: Cole Wasneski, David Bailey, Romelo Hype, Lee Hunter, four guys that are just only here for a year, but have made a tremendous impact on Texas Tech and been a pleasure to watch in every aspect uh on the defensive side of the ball.
- 25:51SPEAKER_06: Awesome players.
- 25:52SPEAKER_05: I mean, they're part of the best defense Texas Tech has ever had.
- 25:55SPEAKER_05: I mean, they it kind of begins and ends there, whenever it comes to handing these guys their accolades.
- 26:01SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it truly does.
- 26:02SPEAKER_06: Barron Morton.
- 26:04SPEAKER_06: Barron Morton.
- 26:05SPEAKER_06: He only played a half, and that's a great thing because he's dealing with a fracture in his leg uh right now, and we're trying to, you know, go places this season, and we need him to rest up.
- 26:15SPEAKER_06: But it was awesome seeing Barron play for the you know quarter and a half that he did.
- 26:21SPEAKER_06: Um, get a get a final touchdown in the Jones.
- 26:24SPEAKER_06: Potentially there will be more, who knows?
- 26:26SPEAKER_06: But on senior day, I'm sure that was a special moment for him.
- 26:29SPEAKER_06: Uh, going through everything that he's gone through at Texas Tech.
- 26:33SPEAKER_06: And uh, of course, last but not least, Mr.
- 26:37SPEAKER_06: Rodriguez, Jacob Rodriguez, the better Rodriguez.
- 26:42SPEAKER_05: You're more handsome, athletic, younger brother.
- 26:45SPEAKER_06: Goat.
- 26:46SPEAKER_06: It's phenomenal.
- 26:47SPEAKER_06: Last linebacker.
- 26:48SPEAKER_06: I my everybody's favorite.
- 26:50SPEAKER_06: He's he's my mom's favorite.
- 26:51SPEAKER_06: I I cry a little bit when she uh she watches him on TV.
- 26:56SPEAKER_06: Jacob Rodriguez is the best.
- 26:58SPEAKER_06: He got a rushing touchdown this game.
- 27:00SPEAKER_06: That was awesome.
- 27:00SPEAKER_06: Throw him in the Wildcat, get him in the Heisman conversation.
- 27:04SPEAKER_06: I love that man.
- 27:05SPEAKER_05: Absolutely, dude.
- 27:05SPEAKER_05: He he needs to get to New York, like without question.
- 27:08SPEAKER_05: Steven, is it safe to say now that the season is winding down that he's your best defensive player you've ever had?
- 27:15SPEAKER_05: I mean, I have to say yes.
- 27:17SPEAKER_05: And I know a lot of old heads and some history historians out there are really gonna be like, well, you have to consider these old guys.
- 27:24SPEAKER_05: And I absolutely get that.
- 27:25SPEAKER_05: But were any of those guys going to be invited to New York City for the quarterback trophy?
- 27:31SPEAKER_06: No.
- 27:33SPEAKER_06: We don't know if he is yet.
- 27:34SPEAKER_06: He definitely deserves it.
- 27:35SPEAKER_06: He will be.
- 27:36SPEAKER_06: I have I have some stats.
- 27:38SPEAKER_06: You want to hear my stats for the Heisman?
- 27:40SPEAKER_06: Let's talk about Heisman.
- 27:41SPEAKER_06: Let's do it.
- 27:42SPEAKER_06: Let's do it.
- 27:42SPEAKER_06: Let's do it.
- 27:43SPEAKER_06: All right.
- 27:43SPEAKER_06: I went back, I looked at the last six Heisman winning quarterbacks.
- 27:48SPEAKER_06: Last six quarterbacks, which we've actually had a little bit of switch up at the Heisman Trophy the last couple years with Devontae Smith winning, Travis Hunter winning, a few more.
- 28:00SPEAKER_06: Jane Daniels, Jane Daniels, LSU, 3,812 yards, 40 touchdowns, four interceptions, added a thousand on the ground with 10 rushing touchdowns.
- 28:12SPEAKER_06: Caleb Williams at USC, 4,500 passing yards, 42 touchdowns, five interceptions.
- 28:18SPEAKER_06: Bryce Young, 2021, 4,800 passing yards, 47 touchdowns, seven interceptions.
- 28:25SPEAKER_06: Joe Burrow, holy shit, Joe Burrow, 5,671 passing yards, 60 touchdowns to six interceptions.
- 28:33SPEAKER_06: I forgot how unbelievable he was in that channel.
- 28:35SPEAKER_05: Joe SU.
- 28:38SPEAKER_06: Kyler Murray, 4,300 passing yards, 42 touchdowns, uh, seven interceptions, added a thousand on the ground.
- 28:45SPEAKER_06: Baker Mayfield, 4,600 passing yards, 43 touchdowns, six interceptions.
- 28:52SPEAKER_06: Those are all insane numbers.
- 28:54SPEAKER_07: Yes.
- 28:54SPEAKER_06: Every one of those quarterbacks deserved the Heisman Trophy.
- 28:57SPEAKER_06: I want to name off the quarterbacks from this season and what they're doing through 10 or 11 games or 12 games, depending on who you're looking at.
- 29:05SPEAKER_06: Fernando Mendoza, 2,600 passing yards, 30 touchdowns, five interceptions.
- 29:12SPEAKER_06: Oh my gosh.
- 29:12SPEAKER_06: That's Julian Sayon, 2,600 passing yards, 25 touchdowns, four interceptions.
- 29:19SPEAKER_06: Marcel Reid, 2,600 passing yards, 22 touchdowns, eight interceptions, six more uh touchdowns on the ground.
- 29:27SPEAKER_06: Diego Pavia, for some reason, is still in these stupid Heisman conversations, 2,400 passing yards, 21 touchdowns, five interceptions.
- 29:36SPEAKER_06: None of these guys have had a Heisman level season.
- 29:41SPEAKER_06: None of them.
- 29:41SPEAKER_06: None of the quarterbacks have had a Heisman level season.
- 29:44SPEAKER_06: Yes, Indiana's undefeated.
- 29:46SPEAKER_06: Yes, Texas AM and Ohio State are also undefeated.
- 29:49SPEAKER_06: This, if they give this award to a quarterback, it's going to just be because nobody's been watching football.
- 29:57SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 29:57SPEAKER_06: And they're just looking at the undefeated teams and giving them the trophy.
- 30:00SPEAKER_06: A lot of this is 2,000 yards less than the last six Heisman winners at the quarterback position for every one of these players.
- 30:11SPEAKER_06: And yes, there's still a lot of time left in the season.
- 30:13SPEAKER_06: Some will be going potentially four or five more games.
- 30:16SPEAKER_06: I understand that.
- 30:18SPEAKER_06: But none of these guys have been elite elite at that position or Heisman level and deserving of this.
- 30:26SPEAKER_06: And you know who has been?
- 30:28SPEAKER_06: Jacob Rodriguez.
- 30:30SPEAKER_06: Best Rodriguez.
- 30:30SPEAKER_06: Must ask him.
- 30:31SPEAKER_06: Jacob, Jacob Rodriguez has been the has had the best linebacker season almost of all time.
- 30:38SPEAKER_06: With more games to go.
- 30:41SPEAKER_06: He has caused more interceptions than the majority of teams in college football right now.
- 30:48SPEAKER_06: He has 11 turnovers between force fumbles and interceptions.
- 30:53SPEAKER_06: He has, I think I saw this at 30 something more tackles than anybody else on Texas Tech right now.
- 31:01SPEAKER_06: Get this man in New York, and he absolutely deserves the freaking trophy.
- 31:05SPEAKER_05: You know, and and bald knowers agree with us as well, by the way.
- 31:09SPEAKER_05: Like you listen to anybody that actually knows what they're talking about.
- 31:13SPEAKER_05: They're all saying that this we this year's Heisman class is insanely weak.
- 31:18SPEAKER_05: Like it's a very weak Heisman class.
- 31:20SPEAKER_05: There's not really even much of a discussion, not a lot of discourse around it.
- 31:24SPEAKER_05: Not because it seems like there's a clear favorite, it's just that it's so boring.
- 31:29SPEAKER_05: Like there's just there's there's no one that's really standing out in the position in the positions they only care about, aka a quarterback.
- 31:35SPEAKER_05: Um, and if there's a year to even look at giving it to a defensive player, I understand Travis Hunter goes a defensive player and then won it last year.
- 31:44SPEAKER_05: But he's a two-way, exactly.
- 31:46SPEAKER_05: And the only way they only gave it to the guy because of his gimmick, too.
- 31:50SPEAKER_05: You know they wanted to hand it off to a quarterback, but because he was the gimmick player, they're like, all right, fine, we'll remit we'll reward the gimmick gimmicry.
- 31:58SPEAKER_05: And I'm not discounting the kid.
- 31:59SPEAKER_05: Like he was awesome.
- 32:00SPEAKER_05: Like that guy was a super deserved it.
- 32:03SPEAKER_05: He deserved it, absolutely.
- 32:04SPEAKER_05: But they only gave it to him because of the gimmick of the two-way.
- 32:07SPEAKER_05: That is it.
- 32:08SPEAKER_05: If he was just one or the other, they would not have given it to him.
- 32:11SPEAKER_05: So it's if there's ever a year to give it to a defensive player and show that this is actually an award for the best player in college football, it's this one.
- 32:20SPEAKER_05: I know our bias is talking, but Jacob Rodriguez is the best defensive player in the country.
- 32:24SPEAKER_05: Like, and it's not even up for discussion.
- 32:26SPEAKER_05: It's funny, like, even if if there's anybody else up like in that zone, it's uh it's other ones of our players, you know.
- 32:33SPEAKER_05: David Bailey, like David Bailey.
- 32:35SPEAKER_05: So yeah, Jacob Rodriguez deserves it.
- 32:37SPEAKER_05: He's not gonna win it.
- 32:38SPEAKER_05: I think every Red Raider fan uh knows that, um, but just because of the the nature of the award, but he needs to be in New York and he needs to be in like top three.
- 32:49SPEAKER_06: Yeah, he he deserves the invite more than anything.
- 32:52SPEAKER_06: They're never gonna give it to a linebacker, and it's so stupid because he has had the most dominant season by a linebacker in a long, long time.
- 33:01SPEAKER_05: Uh maybe ever.
- 33:02SPEAKER_05: It's so it's insane to me, dude.
- 33:04SPEAKER_05: Like, because obviously, you know, linebacker is the quarterback of the defense, like it's the equivalent of the position, and it's it's just then they're never going to consider giving it to the most employer, most important player on the defense.
- 33:16SPEAKER_05: Like, that's insane to me.
- 33:18SPEAKER_05: Like, yeah, what a sham.
- 33:19SPEAKER_05: Oh, I mean, what a sham out of award.
- 33:22SPEAKER_05: And but I mean, we say what a sham of a sport all the time that this sport is, you know.
- 33:26SPEAKER_05: It's we love this sport, but this sport is a sham.
- 33:28SPEAKER_05: Like, in so many ways, it's a joke, it's a it's a farce.
- 33:32SPEAKER_05: Um, but you know, I would I think just we're just so passionate about it because it's our guy.
- 33:35SPEAKER_05: But I mean, if there's any sort of justice with rewarding the players that deserve it, Jacob needs to be there.
- 33:41SPEAKER_06: Absolutely.
- 33:42SPEAKER_06: What what a career at tech and uh best player on the team.
- 33:46SPEAKER_06: He rocks, he rocks in every way.
- 33:48SPEAKER_05: You know, Steven, can I I'm sorry, can I interrupt you?
- 33:50SPEAKER_05: No, go ahead.
- 33:51SPEAKER_05: Maybe I'm gonna be annoying.
- 33:52SPEAKER_05: Um uh so he he's the best player on the team, agreed?
- 33:56SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 33:56SPEAKER_05: Okay, excellent.
- 33:58SPEAKER_05: And we're on the cusp of having arguably the best season in tech's existence, correct?
- 34:03SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 34:04SPEAKER_05: Does that not kind of put him up there for the greatest player in Tech Tech history?
- 34:10SPEAKER_05: 100%.
- 34:11SPEAKER_05: He's he's okay.
- 34:12SPEAKER_05: So that's not a hot take.
- 34:13SPEAKER_05: That's a hot idea.
- 34:14SPEAKER_05: I'm talking about I'm talking like to throwing possibly crab tree or something here.
- 34:19SPEAKER_06: Well, yeah, I mean, uh it's so it's tough because you're comparing, you know, two very different positions.
- 34:27SPEAKER_06: You're comparing different positions and then you start getting into the schemes.
- 34:30SPEAKER_06: If Texas Tech, you know, wins a Big 12 championship, which they're on pace to do.
- 34:37SPEAKER_06: There's a lot of it left.
- 34:38SPEAKER_06: There's a tough Big 12 championship, whoever you're playing left.
- 34:42SPEAKER_06: If Texas Tech wins a Big 12 championship, the yeah, I mean, I don't think that's a hot take at all.
- 34:49SPEAKER_05: So you you'd be you'd be comfortable with having the discussion that he's the greatest football player we've ever had.
- 34:53SPEAKER_06: I'd be ready to have that discussion.
- 34:55SPEAKER_06: And honestly, it's gonna be these things are so weird, these conversations are so weird to have in the moment because you you kind of need some reflection time to really develop an opinion.
- 35:05SPEAKER_06: So, you know, we we look back at Graham Harrell and Michael Crabtree really fondly, and not that they didn't at the time, but they definitely look at them more fondly now than they did in the moment in two uh in like 2009, you know what I'm saying?
- 35:19SPEAKER_06: For sure.
- 35:20SPEAKER_06: So it it's it's gonna this stuff is kind of cyclical, not cyclical, but like it changes, it varies, you know.
- 35:27SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and I I agree with you.
- 35:28SPEAKER_05: I mean, it it it takes context as well, yeah.
- 35:32SPEAKER_05: Things into place.
- 35:33SPEAKER_05: Like Graham Harrels awesome, but yeah, I think yeah, I think you're probably leaning too much into the nostalgia if you think he's a better quarterback than Patrick Mahomes.
- 35:42SPEAKER_06: Yeah, so I mean he was on a better team than Patrick Mahomes.
- 35:45SPEAKER_05: That's what I was gonna say.
- 35:45SPEAKER_05: Uh Graham Harrell's on a much better team, and obviously we can look back and start making the same argument that Jacob Rodriguez was was on the better team, and he is on the better team.
- 35:54SPEAKER_05: I bet this would beat the 2008.
- 35:56SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 35:56SPEAKER_05: Um, so it's it, I I think that's obviously where the context comes in.
- 36:01SPEAKER_05: But at the same time, I mean, you can make the argument, okay, but you can make the argument both ways, so you know they're the best player and the best unit on the team.
- 36:07SPEAKER_05: But um it's just I think that there's a real argument to be had here because I mean Crabtree put up video game numbers too, but Jacob Rodriguez is doing these wacky numbers as a defenseman, you know, where the play happens to him rather than him being having the play designed around him, you know.
- 36:25SPEAKER_05: So it's it takes more of a uh instinct from Jacob Rodriguez to be performing the way he is than having Crabtree run the routes that he's designed to.
- 36:34SPEAKER_05: I know that might be hot air, but I'm just trying I don't know.
- 36:36SPEAKER_05: And I was obviously I'm just living in the moment and living in recency bias of picking him, but I just think there's a real argument to be had that we are looking at the greatest tech football player to ever live.
- 36:45SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I mean, let's see.
- 36:46SPEAKER_06: Uh you look at his stats from last season, they were stupid.
- 36:49SPEAKER_06: He had so many tackles on a on a bad defense, and that was, you know, a lot of that was based around who the personnel and uh the potential defensive coordinator having a um you know a bad season and everything like that.
- 37:02SPEAKER_06: But yeah, it's definitely a conversation that's worth having.
- 37:05SPEAKER_06: And uh right now I think he's up against the two-time Bolitnikov winner in Michael Crabtree.
- 37:11SPEAKER_06: Pretty good or a Graham Harold.
- 37:13SPEAKER_06: That was awesome for the time that he was here.
- 37:15SPEAKER_06: Or uh, you know, if you're one of the old heads, you go back to one of the old guys, Zach Thomas, or uh even way further back and talk about Donnie Anderson's of the world.
- 37:24SPEAKER_06: But um, yeah, I mean, I mean, there's no doubt that J.
- 37:27SPEAKER_06: Rod has been one of the most impactful players at Texas Tech in in their entire history.
- 37:31SPEAKER_06: And and exactly.
- 37:33SPEAKER_05: So obviously, we'll have to, you know, put the put this on ice, and I mean, we can enjoy it right now and talk about all we want since we are living in the moment, but it'll be clear, it'll be a clearer picture down the road when we're reflecting on it in a few years' time.
- 37:44SPEAKER_05: But Jacob Rodriguez does have a runway in front of him to solidify that, like and like and make it not even a question.
- 37:53SPEAKER_05: If you win the Big 12 Big 12 championship, you win a playoff game, you go to the national championship and pull off a miracle, then you obviously are the greatest player to ever play at Texas Tech University.
- 38:05SPEAKER_05: So yeah, and we'll I don't want to get ahead of my skis, but that's just that's that's in front of us.
- 38:10SPEAKER_06: Let's get ahead of our skis a little bit.
- 38:12SPEAKER_06: Let's talk about some let's talk about some Big 12 and some college football playoff uh potentials here.
- 38:20SPEAKER_06: So Big 12.
- 38:22SPEAKER_06: Let's let's keep it let's keep it small for a second and talk about the Big 12 championship.
- 38:27SPEAKER_06: Um the small 12.
- 38:30SPEAKER_06: You beat West Virginia, you beat West Virginia, you're in.
- 38:34SPEAKER_06: Yeah, that's easy.
- 38:36SPEAKER_06: You beat you beat a four-win team at their place, you're in Arlington.
- 38:42SPEAKER_05: Granted, a spooky place.
- 38:44SPEAKER_05: And a team kind of put it together a little bit.
- 38:48SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and definitely a little, you know, they they put in the new quarterback.
- 38:52SPEAKER_06: He's been playing well.
- 38:53SPEAKER_06: Uh they barely lost to Arizona State in Tempe this past weekend, and before that, they won two in a row.
- 39:00SPEAKER_06: So, you know, not the not the easiest team that you're going into.
- 39:04SPEAKER_06: We'll talk about West Virginia next week.
- 39:06SPEAKER_06: Right now, Texas Tech has a 93.4% chance of making the Big 12 championship.
- 39:11SPEAKER_06: Pretty good.
- 39:13SPEAKER_06: 93.4%.
- 39:15SPEAKER_06: So obviously that means losing to West Virginia.
- 39:19SPEAKER_06: But I even did the little play, the little calculator that they have on, I think it's like CFB championship predictor or whatever.
- 39:28SPEAKER_06: Even if they lose to West Virginia, they have an 88% chance of making the Big 12 championship.
- 39:32SPEAKER_06: So pretty good.
- 39:35SPEAKER_06: Pretty good.
- 39:36SPEAKER_06: You need a lot of crap to happen if if if you're not in the Big 12 championship.
- 39:42SPEAKER_06: So you're gonna take care of business.
- 39:44SPEAKER_06: You know, and this team is so built for it to come off of the BYU uh just insane hype fest that it was to then destroy you uh UCF and uh, you know, granted Central Florida, not a great team.
- 40:00SPEAKER_06: I get it.
- 40:01SPEAKER_06: But you know, you're still it shows a lot about your maturity on on having you know so many seniors on this team and so many uh voices in that locker room that I just don't see any way that this team drops a game against West Virginia, and you're you're gonna you're gonna be in the Big 12 championship.
- 40:20SPEAKER_06: So yes, from from there the conversation turns to who has the best odds of playing you in the Big 12 Championship.
- 40:29SPEAKER_06: And of course, right now that is BYU.
- 40:30SPEAKER_06: BYU has one loss, everybody else has two losses right now.
- 40:35SPEAKER_06: So it's going to take them losing one of their last two games, which they played this weekend against Cincinnati at Nipper in Cincinnati, Ohio, which is not an easy game.
- 40:46SPEAKER_06: Cincinnati has not been the best team lately.
- 40:49SPEAKER_06: They just dropped one to Arizona last weekend.
- 40:51SPEAKER_05: They're still a strong team, though.
- 40:53SPEAKER_06: And they're still a formidable opponent, at least, you know.
- 40:57SPEAKER_06: You can so BYU, that's going to be the game to watch this week in the Big 12, is what happens with that one because it pretty much says if BYU wins that game, they're pretty much in.
- 41:09SPEAKER_06: Yeah, they're not guaranteed a spot, but they're pretty much in right now.
- 41:13SPEAKER_06: So uh I don't know how you feel.
- 41:16SPEAKER_06: How you feeling?
- 41:18SPEAKER_06: About those, about all that?
- 41:19SPEAKER_06: About all that, yeah.
- 41:21SPEAKER_05: I feel really good, dude.
- 41:22SPEAKER_05: I I I feel so sure of us, you know, and that might be a curse, but you know, this team has given you every reason to feel comfortable and confident in their abilities to get the job done, you know.
- 41:31SPEAKER_05: Like, as you said, dude, we're built for that.
- 41:33SPEAKER_05: And honestly, I think I would rather see BYU again than say play Utah.
- 41:38SPEAKER_05: I think Utah is striking pretty hot right now.
- 41:41SPEAKER_05: And I think BYU is just this locomotive that is constant and uh reliable, but without that pump.
- 41:50SPEAKER_05: I I don't know if they're this like if they have enough for that lethal pump.
- 41:54SPEAKER_05: They just seem to just put it together and get over the humps constantly here.
- 41:57SPEAKER_05: I mean they they put it to TCU, but TCU is an enigma this year.
- 42:01SPEAKER_05: Um, but I I I'd be more afraid to play the Utes.
- 42:05SPEAKER_05: And I think because I think I think the Utes uh should uh prove to be a more dangerous team offensively than BYU.
- 42:13SPEAKER_05: But dude, I I feel really good about our chances, and I think that Arlington is gonna be packed with Red Raiders.
- 42:19SPEAKER_05: Um, the stuff that y'all have been sending about the seats and the suites, uh the Texas Tech effect is real in Dallas right now, and it that's gonna be a home field advantage for us as well.
- 42:28SPEAKER_05: So the the path to us holding up that Big 12 trophy for the first time couldn't be clear for us right now.
- 42:36SPEAKER_05: Like we we it's just it's in our hands, like our destiny is in our hands, like truly.
- 42:41SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I know people are buying their tickets, I know people have already bought their tickets.
- 42:45SPEAKER_06: We have I work with the Big 12 closely in my day job, and all 380 suites of Jerry World have already been sold.
- 42:53SPEAKER_06: Um, it's it's it's gonna be crazy.
- 42:56SPEAKER_06: Um especially if you get BYU in there too, because of that national fan base, and uh and with Texas Tech, you know, obviously having a large base in the DFW area.
- 43:06SPEAKER_05: If y'all are wondering what Steven does with the Big 12, is he's a flight tracker, he's the one that does all the uh predicting of where coaches are going.
- 43:13SPEAKER_05: He watches the airline map.
- 43:15SPEAKER_06: It's me.
- 43:16SPEAKER_06: I I've been really keyed into uh Eric Morris's flights the Denton International to Waco, Texas.
- 43:26SPEAKER_06: Uh we shall see.
- 43:28SPEAKER_06: As I'm gonna give you just the rundown right here.
- 43:30SPEAKER_06: Texas Tech right now, a 93% chance of making the Big 12 championship.
- 43:36SPEAKER_06: BYU, 61.5% chance of making the Big 12 championship, Arizona State, 19% chance, Cincinnati, 13% chance.
- 43:45SPEAKER_06: The Utah Utes, who some people think are the second best team in the Big 12, 6.7% chance.
- 43:52SPEAKER_06: Whoa.
- 43:53SPEAKER_06: Because the tiebreakers don't help them very much.
- 43:57SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's true.
- 43:58SPEAKER_04: They've lost to tech.
- 44:00SPEAKER_06: They've lost to BYU.
- 44:01SPEAKER_06: And honestly, that that is that that's looking like the matchup.
- 44:06SPEAKER_06: And so the youth fans are not having a good time.
- 44:09SPEAKER_05: What a kick in the butt, dude.
- 44:11SPEAKER_05: You lost to the two best teams in the conference, and you have the worst chance to make it of the the realistic ones.
- 44:18SPEAKER_05: What a what a kick to the butt, man.
- 44:21SPEAKER_05: And you know, it's it's crazy whenever we're just talking about teams like that right now because Texas Tech's strength of schedule, like whenever you just look at ranked teams right now, is pretty dang good, dude.
- 44:32SPEAKER_05: Like we have what four teams currently ranked that we've beaten?
- 44:36SPEAKER_06: Yeah, is it three or four?
- 44:37SPEAKER_06: No, it's it's four.
- 44:39SPEAKER_06: We have four scheduled, we beat three of them.
- 44:41SPEAKER_05: Okay, cool.
- 44:42SPEAKER_05: Gotcha.
- 44:43SPEAKER_05: So, but still, dude, that's more than that's more than who?
- 44:46SPEAKER_05: I think that's more than AM.
- 44:47SPEAKER_05: It is more than A.
- 44:48SPEAKER_06: AM currently has three ranked teams on their schedule the entire year.
- 44:52SPEAKER_06: That's yes, they're undefeated.
- 44:54SPEAKER_06: But three.
- 44:55SPEAKER_06: But three.
- 44:56SPEAKER_06: And one of them is Texas that they haven't played yet.
- 44:58SPEAKER_05: Yep.
- 44:59SPEAKER_05: And uh that's that's a fraudulent ranking anyway.
- 45:02SPEAKER_05: Um so but dude, isn't that that's just sweet?
- 45:05SPEAKER_05: We did it, we earned this, dude.
- 45:07SPEAKER_05: Like, this was not a walk in the park, and things are shaping up fairly well for the Big 12.
- 45:13SPEAKER_05: I think there's a good good shot you get two in.
- 45:15SPEAKER_05: Um, I don't know about that dream to get three.
- 45:17SPEAKER_05: Some madness really needs to happen.
- 45:19SPEAKER_05: Um, but I think it'd be a disservice to the Big 12 if you leave out the runner up.
- 45:24SPEAKER_06: Yeah, let's let's talk about that.
- 45:26SPEAKER_06: College football playoff right now.
- 45:28SPEAKER_06: You have one Big 12 team in the field.
- 45:31SPEAKER_06: The first two out are BYU and Utah.
- 45:34SPEAKER_06: So if you're the Big 12, if you're a fan of the Big 12, if you're rooting for the Big 12 to do well and get two bids into the college football playoff, you obviously need BYU to win out.
- 45:47SPEAKER_06: And honestly, you're kind of rooting for BYU to win the Big 12 championship if you want to get two bids.
- 45:54SPEAKER_05: Yeah, if you if you're pro Big 12, yeah.
- 45:57SPEAKER_06: Yeah, if you're pro Big 12, I mean that's kind of well as a neutral fan.
- 46:00SPEAKER_05: I mean, uh no, no Texas Tech fans, like, sure.
- 46:03SPEAKER_06: But yeah, I mean, obviously, but uh Cincy, I think, is or Cincy, BYU, I think, is going to have a tough time if they do not win the Big 12.
- 46:14SPEAKER_06: I I think they're going to be left out, and it's going to be pretty easy to do so if you are the committee.
- 46:19SPEAKER_06: If you're not in right now and you have another loss potentially, uh, you're gonna need a lot to happen to Oregon and Notre Dame and Bama and those types.
- 46:32SPEAKER_06: Like, I just don't I don't see it, especially because a lot of those teams are not even gonna make their own conference championship game, so they're not gonna have another loss potentially.
- 46:41SPEAKER_06: So I I just I I think the Big 12 is gonna end up with one.
- 46:45SPEAKER_06: I really do.
- 46:46SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
- 46:46SPEAKER_05: I mean that I think that's a logical take, dude.
- 46:49SPEAKER_05: I think I think so.
- 46:49SPEAKER_05: You know, can I if a bit of an abstract follow-up to that?
- 46:53SPEAKER_05: So if BYU plays us in the conference championship and loses, um, do you think that slides Utah above them?
- 47:00SPEAKER_05: Or do you think BYU would remain ahead of them and that possible outlaw at large?
- 47:04SPEAKER_05: Or do you think Utah would kind of sneak in ahead of them if this way that happens?
- 47:10SPEAKER_06: I think Utah's got a 0.1% chance of making the college football playoff.
- 47:15SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 47:16SPEAKER_06: I just don't they they they're in the Big 12, so they're not gonna get that conference you know credit.
- 47:21SPEAKER_06: They're not gonna get the push from that end.
- 47:23SPEAKER_06: Even though if you've watched any of Utah the last few weeks, they've been awesome to watch.
- 47:28SPEAKER_06: They've been they're clicking on all cylinders.
- 47:30SPEAKER_06: It's just you lost your two biggest games of the year, and unfortunately, that's gonna likely kick you out of the championship game.
- 47:36SPEAKER_06: Two playoff teams is so frustrating, you know.
- 47:39SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and I mean, listen, Cincinnati could go be BYU and just mess up a whole bunch of stuff this weekend.
- 47:45SPEAKER_06: So, you know, Utah's not out.
- 47:48SPEAKER_06: If they make the Big 12 championship in the 6.7 whatever percent chance that they have, you know, and they play a tight game to Texas Tech or even potentially beat Texas Tech, you know, there's that that's obviously a bid, but it, you know, it's going to be it, it's gonna be really tough without making even making the Big 12 championship for Utah to get into this field.
- 48:10SPEAKER_05: Yeah, no, that makes sense, dude.
- 48:12SPEAKER_05: Um, so real quick while we're on this, do you think that Texas Tech remains in the playoff if we lose the Big 12?
- 48:19SPEAKER_06: I think so.
- 48:20SPEAKER_05: I think so too.
- 48:21SPEAKER_06: I think so.
- 48:22SPEAKER_06: I think we've gotten enough of the storyline, enough of the talent, enough, and this started at the beginning of the season.
- 48:29SPEAKER_06: Unfortunately, a lot of this stuff has to start at the beginning of the season for you to get the benefit of the doubt.
- 48:33SPEAKER_06: And it's number one or number two transfer portal class, wherever you were looking, you know, you've seen an extremely talented team.
- 48:40SPEAKER_06: You've beat the brakes off of everybody except Arizona State.
- 48:44SPEAKER_06: And I think the committee is going to definitely give Texas Tech a nod uh at one of those uh potentially double-digit or a nine seed, even if you uh if if you don't end up securing the Big 12 championship.
- 48:59SPEAKER_05: Yeah, for sure.
- 49:00SPEAKER_05: I I agree.
- 49:00SPEAKER_05: I'm in full agreement.
- 49:02SPEAKER_05: And I like where we're at at number five, dude.
- 49:04SPEAKER_05: I think that's perfect.
- 49:04SPEAKER_05: And I'm honestly I'm happy to perch there too.
- 49:07SPEAKER_05: Like I'm coming around to the idea that not getting the buy would really not be the worst thing in the world.
- 49:14SPEAKER_05: But I'm I'm I'm of two minds.
- 49:16SPEAKER_05: I'm of two minds.
- 49:18SPEAKER_05: I would love the idea of hosting the G6 team, whether it's UNT or Tulane or JMU, uh in Lubbock, Texas, because I think you have a good chance of blowing that team out and just smoking them in front of your home fans and getting a playoff win under your belt.
- 49:31SPEAKER_05: Like that's forever at that point.
- 49:32SPEAKER_05: You've won a playoff game.
- 49:34SPEAKER_05: Um, that's like winning a big bowl game.
- 49:36SPEAKER_05: Um, and then you go and play the bye team.
- 49:40SPEAKER_05: My other mind of it is A, of course, you you last longer.
- 49:43SPEAKER_05: You know, you're the you get the respect of being the buy by team, you're number four in the country or whatever.
- 49:47SPEAKER_05: Um, and where my brain is at with that is you give Barron Morton a lot of time to rest.
- 49:53SPEAKER_05: Barron Morton and a lot of other players, of course, too, but like truly the boy with the fracture of on the most important position of your team, having some time to just sit at home and rest.
- 50:03SPEAKER_05: Um, so I can I'm I'm honestly satisfied with either outcome.
- 50:06SPEAKER_05: What about you?
- 50:08SPEAKER_06: I think you've actually seen the majority of Texas Tech, the fans have agreed with you that hey, stay at five.
- 50:16SPEAKER_06: You know, you don't even want the buy, honestly, because one, because this is a a weaker class of G5 team right now that is going to potentially break into the playoff.
- 50:26SPEAKER_06: Right now they have Tulane, but you know, UNT probably deserve that bid, even JMU probably deserved that bid over Tulane right now.
- 50:34SPEAKER_06: Um, so there's there's that element.
- 50:39SPEAKER_06: I I tend to think, hey, if you can get a buy, go for the buy.
- 50:43SPEAKER_06: I I always have kind of thought that.
- 50:46SPEAKER_06: Um, due to this team and who they are, the senior-led, you know, everything that we've been talking about with this entire team.
- 50:55SPEAKER_06: That I I don't and and more time for players to rest, less risk for injury in that quarterfinal game, even if it is in Lubbock.
- 51:03SPEAKER_06: I just think Texas Tech fans really want a playoff game in Lubbock.
- 51:06SPEAKER_06: Like, I really think that that's what's pushing a lot of these people to think this way.
- 51:09SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I I think I still lean towards the wanting the bye and trying to get a top four seed and hoping a Georgia or somebody falls out and you can take their place.
- 51:21SPEAKER_06: But you know, I'm I'm satisfied either way.
- 51:24SPEAKER_06: If we're making the college football playoff, we're making the freaking college football playoff.
- 51:27SPEAKER_05: If you win out, I don't see how there's any way you don't get a buy.
- 51:31SPEAKER_05: I feel like it has to win.
- 51:33SPEAKER_05: I I don't I don't see how that's mathematically possible.
- 51:37SPEAKER_05: Because what you're looking at is two Big Ten teams and two SEC teams.
- 51:41SPEAKER_05: Let's say they went out and they play each other in the conference uh championships.
- 51:45SPEAKER_05: The loser you're you're in tech wins out.
- 51:47SPEAKER_05: You're likely to hop one of those losers.
- 51:50SPEAKER_05: Like it feels like Georgia.
- 51:52SPEAKER_06: Georgia and AM went out, they play each other in the SEC championship, Georgia wins, Georgia hops AM, AM stays at four.
- 52:01SPEAKER_06: I don't know, man.
- 52:02SPEAKER_06: I think that's I think that's what's gonna happen.
- 52:04SPEAKER_05: I think that's the only scenario where that happens, though.
- 52:08SPEAKER_05: Because I think I think if I think with uh uh Ohio State and Indiana, I do think the winner of that, I feel like I just feel like of the math, you have to leap one of them into the bye week.
- 52:18SPEAKER_06: You're uh Indiana and Ohio State are both making it.
- 52:21SPEAKER_06: Yeah, unless unless no making a top four seed.
- 52:26SPEAKER_06: They're both making a top four seed.
- 52:27SPEAKER_06: Unless, unless wall alpha, unless Ohio State loses to Michigan.
- 52:33SPEAKER_06: That's the only way.
- 52:34SPEAKER_06: That's the only way one of those.
- 52:35SPEAKER_05: AM can lose to UT.
- 52:38SPEAKER_06: Yes, AM could you're right, you're right.
- 52:41SPEAKER_06: A M could lose to UT, and if AM then loses to I guess it would still be Bama who would make the SEC championship.
- 52:49SPEAKER_06: It wouldn't be Georgia because Bama's got the tiebreaker and only one SEC lost.
- 52:53SPEAKER_06: Their other loss was to Florida State in the non-con.
- 52:56SPEAKER_06: So yeah, I mean I I yeah, I there's there's opportunity for tech to jump.
- 53:02SPEAKER_06: Do I think that that's gonna happen if everybody just continues doing what they're doing?
- 53:08SPEAKER_06: No.
- 53:09SPEAKER_06: Like, I think I think a 10 or an 11-1 Georgia team that doesn't make the SEC championship will still remain a top four seed.
- 53:19SPEAKER_05: Well, I mean, they still have to play in-state art rival Georgia Tech.
- 53:22SPEAKER_05: And Rivalries, you know, they have in Georgia Tech's number 16, and they're not a bad team by any means.
- 53:27SPEAKER_06: They lied to me on the CBS Sports app because they say add Georgia Tech.
- 53:31SPEAKER_06: That game is at Mercedes-Benz, so it's gonna be taken over by Georgia fans.
- 53:35SPEAKER_05: It's at Mercedes-Benz, they play neutrally.
- 53:38SPEAKER_06: They're playing that game.
- 53:39SPEAKER_06: I I don't know if that's a new thing or that's they're playing at Mercedes.
- 53:43SPEAKER_06: Yeah, they're playing at Mercedes-Benz.
- 53:45SPEAKER_05: Why would they do that?
- 53:46SPEAKER_05: Okay, in Atlanta, where Georgia Tech is what I don't have an explanation.
- 53:55SPEAKER_06: I don't know.
- 53:55SPEAKER_05: I put the Yellow Jackets better put some some weirdness on that field then.
- 54:00SPEAKER_06: I put together a little something for the people.
- 54:03SPEAKER_06: And it's the week 13 board it's the week 13 Hate Watch Guide.
- 54:09SPEAKER_06: You ready?
- 54:10SPEAKER_06: For week 13, Texas Tech not playing, you don't have to watch Texas Tech this week.
- 54:15SPEAKER_06: So we won.
- 54:16SPEAKER_06: We won the bye week.
- 54:18SPEAKER_06: Congratulations to all the Red Raider fans.
- 54:19SPEAKER_06: Very happy.
- 54:20SPEAKER_06: We respect the bye week.
- 54:21SPEAKER_06: We respect the bye week.
- 54:23SPEAKER_06: If you want Texas Tech to guarantee a spot in the Big 12 championship this week, it can happen.
- 54:29SPEAKER_06: BYU beats Cincy, Colorado beats Arizona State.
- 54:34SPEAKER_06: That's what you're hoping for.
- 54:35SPEAKER_06: That that way, it doesn't matter what happens in Morgantown, you're in the Big 12 championship.
- 54:40SPEAKER_06: So you know, that's and it's going to be BYU Texas Tech if that happens.
- 54:46SPEAKER_06: So if you want tech to play anyone other than BYU or Utah in the Big 12 Championship.
- 54:53SPEAKER_06: So this is for the people that want an easier path for Texas Tech to win the Big 12, which I think some people are rooting for.
- 55:01SPEAKER_06: There's a portion of people of Texas Tech fans that are not rooting for the Big 12 to succeed, but for Texas Tech to have the easiest path.
- 55:09SPEAKER_06: Since E to beat BYU, and you want K-State to beat Utah this weekend.
- 55:16SPEAKER_05: That's not happening, dude.
- 55:18SPEAKER_06: Colorado's also not gonna beat Arizona State.
- 55:20SPEAKER_06: But hey, we're gonna watch and we're gonna hope and we're gonna pray that something happens.
- 55:25SPEAKER_05: I I feel like Colorado being Arizona State is a better chance than Kansas State being Utah, personally.
- 55:31SPEAKER_06: I don't know about that.
- 55:32SPEAKER_06: Colorado is boo-boo.
- 55:36SPEAKER_05: I know, but Arizona State, you know, they're playing without Sam Levitt, and they had to go to the wire against the nears.
- 55:42SPEAKER_05: And Colorado playing for a bolt?
- 55:45SPEAKER_05: Or they're gonna be a big thing.
- 55:46SPEAKER_06: No, they're they're yeah, they're out.
- 55:48SPEAKER_06: Um K-State's playing for a bull.
- 55:50SPEAKER_05: You're and you're taught you're talking about a Matt Wells dish in Rice Eccles Stadium with a T a K-State team that has shown nothing.
- 56:00SPEAKER_06: They nearly lost to the winless Pokes.
- 56:03SPEAKER_06: One-O, right where you want to be, Don.
- 56:07SPEAKER_06: One-on-o.
- 56:08SPEAKER_06: This is the more interesting.
- 56:10SPEAKER_05: K-Watch sucks, dude.
- 56:11SPEAKER_06: This is the this is where it gets more interesting.
- 56:15SPEAKER_06: If you want the Big 12 to get multiple bids in the college football playoff, this is what you're hoping for.
- 56:23SPEAKER_06: BYU over Cincy, Utah over Kansas State, Syracuse over Notre Dame, Rutgers over Ohio State, Sanford over Texas AM, Scarlet, 49ers over the Georgia Bulldogs, USC to beat Oregon.
- 56:49SPEAKER_06: That's tricky though, because USC is still kind of in the mix here, and if they get a signature, they are, they're still kind of in the mix here.
- 56:57SPEAKER_06: And if they get a signature win over Oregon, that might screw some stuff up there at the at the later seeds of the college football playoff.
- 57:06SPEAKER_06: But I I still think you want USC to beat Oregon this weekend.
- 57:10SPEAKER_06: Arkansas over the Longhorns.
- 57:13SPEAKER_06: Not that Texas is going to make the playoff, but there is still a chance that they could make the playoffs.
- 57:20SPEAKER_06: So you're hoping for the Razorbacks to pull off the upset over here against Texas.
- 57:26SPEAKER_06: Kentucky over Vanderbilt, because for some reason Vanderbilt still has a chance to make the college football playoff.
- 57:34SPEAKER_06: Eastern Illinois over Alabama.
- 57:39SPEAKER_06: Virginia Tech over Miami.
- 57:43SPEAKER_06: Which is, I don't know.
- 57:45SPEAKER_06: James Franklin's there.
- 57:47SPEAKER_06: He's not the coach yet.
- 57:50SPEAKER_06: But maybe that begins a little fire under Virginia Tech.
- 57:54SPEAKER_05: Ticket starting at$1, by the way.
- 57:58SPEAKER_06: Yikes.
- 57:58SPEAKER_06: Is that in Blacksburg?
- 58:00SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 58:01SPEAKER_06: Okay, it's in Blacksburg.
- 58:05SPEAKER_06: One a dollar.
- 58:08SPEAKER_06: Missouri over Oklahoma.
- 58:10SPEAKER_06: You want that to happen.
- 58:12SPEAKER_06: That one's plausible.
- 58:13SPEAKER_06: Maryland over Michigan, because again, for some reason, Michigan is still in the playoff hunt here, despite needing a game-winning field goal to beat Northwestern at Wrigley Field, which again, for some reason, they played at Wrigley Field.
- 58:28SPEAKER_05: Um instead of Northwestern.
- 58:31SPEAKER_06: Maryland over Michigan.
- 58:33SPEAKER_06: Pitt over Georgia Tech.
- 58:35SPEAKER_06: Honestly, kind of the dream scenario here.
- 58:37SPEAKER_06: Pitt beats Georgia Tech, Georgia Tech beats Georgia the following week.
- 58:40SPEAKER_05: That is dream.
- 58:41SPEAKER_05: That's the dream.
- 58:41SPEAKER_06: Kind of the dream situation.
- 58:43SPEAKER_06: And then finally, the Florida Gators over the Tennessee Volunteers.
- 58:47SPEAKER_06: That game doesn't really matter.
- 58:49SPEAKER_06: Tennessee doesn't have a chance, but it's, you know, it's still SEC chaos.
- 58:54SPEAKER_06: It's funny.
- 58:54SPEAKER_06: And that's what we're going for here.
- 58:56SPEAKER_06: We're going for chaos.
- 58:57SPEAKER_06: So there's your hate watch guide for week 13.
- 59:00SPEAKER_05: Steven, I'm not going to lie to you.
- 59:01SPEAKER_05: That hate watch guide, it's not a lot of um.
- 59:07SPEAKER_06: It's got a lot of disappointment written all over it.
- 59:11SPEAKER_05: The only hate you're going to be doing is hating yourself, dude, because these teams.
- 59:16SPEAKER_05: Stanford has one win, I think.
- 59:18SPEAKER_05: They don't even have a head coach.
- 59:19SPEAKER_05: One in 10.
- 59:20SPEAKER_05: One in ten.
- 59:21SPEAKER_05: FCS team against Red Hot Chili Pepper, Texas AM.
- 59:25SPEAKER_05: Um, and uh Charlotte.
- 59:28SPEAKER_05: One win, Steven.
- 59:29SPEAKER_05: One win.
- 59:30SPEAKER_05: 49ers.
- 59:30SPEAKER_05: They have one.
- 59:31SPEAKER_05: One win.
- 59:34SPEAKER_05: Eastern Illinois.
- 59:35SPEAKER_05: We respect Eastern Illinois.
- 59:36SPEAKER_05: They could they they're gonna they're gonna they're gonna do something in Teen Town.
- 59:41SPEAKER_05: Um but honestly, Missouri and Oklahoma, not that far fetched.
- 59:45SPEAKER_05: I mean, Rutgers couldn't, I don't know.
- 59:47SPEAKER_05: No, stop it.
- 59:50SPEAKER_05: They're playing football.
- 59:52SPEAKER_05: Now's the time.
- 59:54SPEAKER_05: They're gonna go into the shoe and upset number one Ohio State.
- 59:58SPEAKER_05: Look, Michigan is going to beat Maryland unless they like have some sort of funny machine game where they just blow it.
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_06: Um they dude, they took a game lead field goal to beat Northwestern.
- 1:00:07SPEAKER_06: So so I bet Northwest is better than Maryland, though.
- 1:00:11SPEAKER_05: Yeah, probably I think Maryland doesn't have a coach right now.
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_06: No, no, you fell for it.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_06: You fell for it.
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_06: I got still has a coach.
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_06: You got sense on okay.
- 1:00:19SPEAKER_05: Uh Maryland's still not good.
- 1:00:21SPEAKER_06: They still have a head coach.
- 1:00:23SPEAKER_05: And they're not good.
- 1:00:24SPEAKER_06: Well we're rooting, we're rooting for the pigs.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_05: We're going, yeah, I was about to say, dude, Petrino has gotta do like a zesty meme, you know, and just have his only his only win and Arkansas's only conference win.
- 1:00:37SPEAKER_05: Being the Longhorns would be very funny.
- 1:00:39SPEAKER_05: It'd be very KU loss-esque that UT like to do.
- 1:00:43SPEAKER_05: So that would be, you know, I feel like there's some wayward brotherness between K Arkansas and Kansas.
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_06: I feel like there's like some is it the fact that they is it the fact that they both have Kansas in their name?
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_05: That's a that's a big part of it, dude.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_05: That's a that might be where your head's at.
- 1:01:00SPEAKER_05: The animal mascot, you know, it's the university mascot.
- 1:01:03SPEAKER_05: And I just I just like I I want them to complete this prophecy I just now made up and be that Kansas team that beats UT and like reminds UT of home in the heartland, you know.
- 1:01:13SPEAKER_05: So like that's that's that's what I'm thinking.
- 1:01:15SPEAKER_06: I think a very underrated upset here that would just be hilarious, would be Syracuse beating Notre Dame.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_06: That would be funny.
- 1:01:25SPEAKER_06: And Steve Linton's Syracuse Orange.
- 1:01:29SPEAKER_06: That's a throwback to last year and how disappointing Steve Linton was with uh with Texas Tech.
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_06: Uh, that would be funny.
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_06: Notre Dame honestly really screws a lot of scenarios up here.
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_06: Well lots of just them continuing to win and being 0-2 to start the season.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_06: I I totally get the Miami fans that are upset.
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_06: I get it.
- 1:01:52SPEAKER_06: Like freaking Notre Dame, head-to-head matchup.
- 1:01:56SPEAKER_06: Notre Dame has played nobody.
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_06: Nobody.
- 1:01:59SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:02:00SPEAKER_06: They they beat Navy, which is you know, not nothing.
- 1:02:04SPEAKER_06: But that who is Notre Dame beat after starting 0-2 to boost them as high as they are.
- 1:02:11SPEAKER_05: Keep ripping.
- 1:02:12SPEAKER_05: Uh one sec.
- 1:02:13SPEAKER_06: I keep it it blows my mind that and and not just because Texas Tech and Notre Dame have had this little Yeah, we have a Twitter beef now.
- 1:02:22SPEAKER_06: We have a Twitter beef because Julie Maguire said a little side comment and they're very upset.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_05: Um man.
- 1:02:29SPEAKER_06: What's Syracuse's record?
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_06: What's Syracuse's record?
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_05: Sarracuse Syracuse's record?
- 1:02:34SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:02:35SPEAKER_05: Uh it is three and seven.
- 1:02:40SPEAKER_05: Yikes.
- 1:02:42SPEAKER_06: That's not good.
- 1:02:43SPEAKER_06: That's not what you wanted to hear.
- 1:02:44SPEAKER_06: What's Notre Dame's schedule?
- 1:02:46SPEAKER_06: What's Notre Dame's schedule been after they lost to AM and Miami?
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_05: You ready for this?
- 1:02:51SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_05: After they lost to the two teams that had life.
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_05: Purdue.
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_05: Bad.
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_05: I don't think they think they have one win.
- 1:02:58SPEAKER_05: One and nine, baby.
- 1:02:59SPEAKER_05: One and nine.
- 1:03:00SPEAKER_05: Arkansas, zero wins in conference.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_05: Two eight, baby.
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I think they just have an FCS and G5 win.
- 1:03:06SPEAKER_05: Uh Boise State, a disappointing year for the Broncos who are normally strong, but bad year for them.
- 1:03:12SPEAKER_05: The Wolfpack of NC State.
- 1:03:14SPEAKER_05: I don't know what kind of year.
- 1:03:15SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 1:03:16SPEAKER_05: And uh USC, decent win.
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 1:03:19SPEAKER_06: That's a good win.
- 1:03:20SPEAKER_05: That's their only good win, though.
- 1:03:21SPEAKER_05: Because after that, it goes Boston College Navy Pittsburgh.
- 1:03:24SPEAKER_06: Well, Boston College is one in ten.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_06: So rivalry game.
- 1:03:33SPEAKER_06: Navy, Navy's not bad.
- 1:03:35SPEAKER_06: Pitty's okay.
- 1:03:37SPEAKER_05: They're not normal selves.
- 1:03:39SPEAKER_06: They killed Pitt, but whatever.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_06: Pitt stay.
- 1:03:41SPEAKER_05: Pitt's bad, dude.
- 1:03:42SPEAKER_05: Pitt had no business being ranked.
- 1:03:44SPEAKER_06: Pitt lost to West Virginia.
- 1:03:45SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 1:03:47SPEAKER_05: So the A the ACC is a mess.
- 1:03:50SPEAKER_05: So, dude, it's not happening.
- 1:03:51SPEAKER_05: And then they finish off with Stanford.
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_05: Notre Dame is gonna upset a lot of people.
- 1:03:55SPEAKER_05: So it's yeah, it's it's it's done.
- 1:03:58SPEAKER_05: It's cooked.
- 1:03:59SPEAKER_05: I hate it.
- 1:03:59SPEAKER_05: I hate it.
- 1:04:00SPEAKER_05: It sucks.
- 1:04:00SPEAKER_06: As soon as they went 0-2, everybody was just like, yep, they're in the playoff.
- 1:04:06SPEAKER_05: Well, it's hilarious how they're gonna go to the playoff having beaten one good team.
- 1:04:10SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:04:11SPEAKER_05: One that's bananas, dude.
- 1:04:12SPEAKER_05: They're gonna have one ranked win that it's currently ranked on their schedule and be a high seed in the playoffs.
- 1:04:19SPEAKER_05: They'll probably host.
- 1:04:20SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:04:21SPEAKER_06: Listen.
- 1:04:23SPEAKER_06: Go go Eli Drinkwitz over the Sooners.
- 1:04:27SPEAKER_06: Dork go Dorkwitz over the Sooners.
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_05: That guy looks like he is not a football guy.
- 1:04:32SPEAKER_05: You know, Dork.
- 1:04:34SPEAKER_05: That guy looks like he should be he has a CPA, you know, and is just ready to run the numbers, but he does not look like he's coaching ball.
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_05: It'd be funny if he went and got the the ghoul of Venables, you know.
- 1:04:46SPEAKER_05: Not nose Fratsu up there in Normonton.
- 1:04:50SPEAKER_06: Yeah, well, Willem Defoe over there in Norman, Oklahoma.
- 1:04:54SPEAKER_06: All right, that's my hay watch.
- 1:04:56SPEAKER_06: Not a lot of it's gonna be.
- 1:04:59SPEAKER_06: Listen, I am nothing but a messenger here, okay?
- 1:05:03SPEAKER_06: This is what we're rooting for.
- 1:05:05SPEAKER_06: We have a bye week coming up.
- 1:05:07SPEAKER_06: We don't have a game to talk about until next week against West Virginia.
- 1:05:11SPEAKER_06: This is good.
- 1:05:12SPEAKER_06: It's a good time.
- 1:05:13SPEAKER_06: It's great.
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_06: Barron's hurt.
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_06: Baron's got a fracture in his leg.
- 1:05:16SPEAKER_06: Everybody's kind of tired.
- 1:05:18SPEAKER_06: We're ramping up before you know the real meat of the schedule gets on.
- 1:05:23SPEAKER_06: And by meat of the schedule, I mean championship games and potential playoff games and all this sort of stuff.
- 1:05:30SPEAKER_06: So good time to have a bye week.
- 1:05:33SPEAKER_06: Schedule ended up working out nicely in that department.
- 1:05:35SPEAKER_06: Um, anything else that you have?
- 1:05:38SPEAKER_06: Football.
- 1:05:39SPEAKER_05: Brother, that that ends it.
- 1:05:41SPEAKER_05: We spent an hour talking about football.
- 1:05:43SPEAKER_05: And we it it was after a game we just annihilated.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_05: I'm surprised you didn't bring up your boy on UCF at all.
- 1:05:49SPEAKER_05: Like you didn't even mention him.
- 1:05:51SPEAKER_05: Who?
- 1:05:52SPEAKER_05: Uh the quarterback from Brazil.
- 1:05:54SPEAKER_06: Denny?
- 1:05:55SPEAKER_06: Or Dan what's his name?
- 1:05:56SPEAKER_06: Davy.
- 1:05:57SPEAKER_06: Davy! Davy.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_05: Your boy Dobby had a bad game, dog.
- 1:06:02SPEAKER_06: Dude, Scott Frost is in hell right now.
- 1:06:05SPEAKER_06: He doesn't know what the hell he's doing with this team.
- 1:06:08SPEAKER_06: Everybody's hurt.
- 1:06:09SPEAKER_06: He's played five quarterbacks this season, and uh Dobby, unfortunately, was one of them.
- 1:06:14SPEAKER_06: And uh he's not been good.
- 1:06:16SPEAKER_06: He's a true freshman.
- 1:06:18SPEAKER_06: Yeah, he'll he'll grow.
- 1:06:19SPEAKER_05: Brazil, Brazil's a football factory, so he he's gonna prove to be an insane big brain get by Mr.
- 1:06:28SPEAKER_05: Frost.
- 1:06:28SPEAKER_05: Yeah, just give it time, Dobby.
- 1:06:32SPEAKER_06: All right, man.
- 1:06:33SPEAKER_06: Short basketball.
- 1:06:34SPEAKER_06: They're playing in the Bahamas.
- 1:06:36SPEAKER_06: Please don't let any off-the-court crap happen.
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_07: Are we going in the no?
- 1:06:41SPEAKER_06: No, we're not going to the Bahamas tomorrow uh to watch to watch Texas Tech play Wake Forest.
- 1:06:50SPEAKER_06: Uh Wake is great.
- 1:06:51SPEAKER_06: We respect Wake Forest.
- 1:06:53SPEAKER_05: We do.
- 1:06:53SPEAKER_06: We respect Wake Forest.
- 1:06:56SPEAKER_05: Go ahead.
- 1:06:57SPEAKER_05: I was gonna say, rest rest be assured, Steven.
- 1:06:59SPEAKER_05: I'm gonna interrupt you with a bad joke.
- 1:07:01SPEAKER_05: I'm sorry, but the good news is Grant McCasslin loves his wife.
- 1:07:06SPEAKER_05: He is a family man, all right.
- 1:07:08SPEAKER_05: And I as far as I know, I don't think he has any DC siblings.
- 1:07:12SPEAKER_05: So we don't think we're good, bro.
- 1:07:16SPEAKER_06: Twin brothers, good lord, Mark Adams.
- 1:07:19SPEAKER_06: Disgusting.
- 1:07:22SPEAKER_06: Grant McCasslin rocks.
- 1:07:24SPEAKER_06: Great guy.
- 1:07:25SPEAKER_06: We're playing Wake Forest, and then we're if we win that game, we'll probably play Purdue, who is number one in the country.
- 1:07:34SPEAKER_06: Big test for the team.
- 1:07:35SPEAKER_06: We got Luke Bamboye back, and he provided some energy in that Milwaukee game when we desperately needed it.
- 1:07:42SPEAKER_06: So I don't know.
- 1:07:43SPEAKER_06: We'll see.
- 1:07:44SPEAKER_06: This team is still building, they're still building chemistry.
- 1:07:46SPEAKER_06: It might not look good at first, but again, this is early season action.
- 1:07:51SPEAKER_06: Um, and I will be tuned in.
- 1:07:53SPEAKER_06: And hopefully, that Illinois game taught them a little uh little thing, too.
- 1:07:56SPEAKER_05: So absolutely, yeah.
- 1:07:58SPEAKER_05: Look at Tim Duncan, they're they're they're waiting for the Red Raiders to come in and show them a lesson.
- 1:08:03SPEAKER_06: They can't they can't beat my precious Tim Duncan's alma mater, and the Chris Paul's, correct?
- 1:08:09SPEAKER_06: Yeah, that's C B D's and Chris P's.
- 1:08:12SPEAKER_06: Hey, CP3 Spurs legend, hall of Famer, Hall of Famer's legend, Spurs legend, Chris Paul.
- 1:08:20SPEAKER_06: Song of the week, Tristan.
- 1:08:23SPEAKER_06: You're not changing my song of the week this week.
- 1:08:26SPEAKER_06: Last minute.
- 1:08:26SPEAKER_05: Oh, I hope I'm not taking your song of the week.
- 1:08:29SPEAKER_06: What is your song of the week?
- 1:08:31SPEAKER_06: Do not take my song of the week.
- 1:08:33SPEAKER_05: My song of the week, Steven, and I hope it's yours.
- 1:08:36SPEAKER_05: All right, so I'm gonna go with an instrumental instead of a one with vocals and lyrics.
- 1:08:42SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna go with move, move, move by Alan Parker and Alan Axha.
- 1:08:49SPEAKER_04: Just an absolute bump to get the people going on a bye week and get people doing what they need to do.
- 1:08:56SPEAKER_05: Just bop it and moving around.
- 1:08:59SPEAKER_05: That is move, move, move, Alan Parker, and Alan Hawkshaw.
- 1:09:20SPEAKER_06: We just talked about this.
- 1:09:23SPEAKER_06: Pre-pod.
- 1:09:24SPEAKER_05: I cannot believe you didn't see that coming.
- 1:09:26SPEAKER_05: Whenever I said an instrument, I knew you were like your inner, you got like your thinking face on.
- 1:09:31SPEAKER_06: I knew I knew you were struggling to I thought you were going to actually give my song of the week because we talked about it in a in a group text earlier this week.
- 1:09:40SPEAKER_06: So I move move move move by the Alens.
- 1:09:48SPEAKER_06: The two Alens.
- 1:09:49SPEAKER_06: The two Alens.
- 1:09:50SPEAKER_06: That's a that's a fantastic song of the week.
- 1:09:53SPEAKER_06: Thank you.
- 1:09:54SPEAKER_06: No, known, known from feature films, Nacho Libre, and Elite TV chowder.
- 1:10:05SPEAKER_05: Shout out to all the 2000s kids out there.
- 1:10:07SPEAKER_06: Shout out to the to the 2000s kids.
- 1:10:10SPEAKER_06: What a song of the week.
- 1:10:12SPEAKER_06: Okay, my song of the week.
- 1:10:15SPEAKER_06: Why don't you and I Santana featuring Chad Kroger?
- 1:10:21SPEAKER_06: I we've always loved this combination of Santana and Chad Kroger.
- 1:10:29SPEAKER_06: And when I discovered that there was another song by Santana and Chad Kroger, I have not stopped listening to this song this week.
- 1:10:43SPEAKER_06: It's an absolute banger.
- 1:10:45SPEAKER_06: It's fantastic.
- 1:10:47SPEAKER_06: Why don't you and I, Santana, featuring Nickelback's Chad Kroger?
- 1:11:07SPEAKER_04: Was this song locked away in a vault?
- 1:11:09SPEAKER_06: Where has this been all I don't know?
- 1:11:12SPEAKER_06: It blew my mind.
- 1:11:14SPEAKER_04: When was it released?
- 1:11:15SPEAKER_06: I like two like let me see.
- 1:11:18SPEAKER_05: The same year as uh uh Into the Night?
- 1:11:22SPEAKER_06: 2002.
- 1:11:24SPEAKER_06: It was released in 2002 off of Santana's album Shaman.
- 1:11:30SPEAKER_06: So good album.
- 1:11:32SPEAKER_06: Yeah, great album.
- 1:11:33SPEAKER_06: Maybe I need to go back and listen to all of Santana's discography to see what I'm missing out on here.
- 1:11:38SPEAKER_05: The Alens.
- 1:11:40SPEAKER_06: What a what a bang, what a fantastic song of the week from both of us here.
- 1:11:44SPEAKER_05: That's good, good, good songs.
- 1:11:48SPEAKER_06: Way to go, man.
- 1:11:49SPEAKER_06: This has been fun.
- 1:11:50SPEAKER_06: I hope all of you have enjoyed our stupidity and at times, hopefully, informative talk about the Texas Tech Red Raiders and maybe more.
- 1:12:00SPEAKER_05: I'm sorry, Jeff Ketchup.
- 1:12:02SPEAKER_05: I'm sorry.
- 1:12:03SPEAKER_05: That was that was really mean to have it.
- 1:12:05SPEAKER_06: We want to send a formal apology to Jeff Ketchup and the entire Longhorn community for being two online this week.
- 1:12:12SPEAKER_06: Um, we appreciate all you guys listening.
- 1:12:15SPEAKER_06: You can follow both me and Tristan on Twitter.
- 1:12:17SPEAKER_06: Tristan's at Tristy Mick.
- 1:12:18SPEAKER_06: I'm at O underscore S underscore Rodriguez.
