- 0:00Speaker 1: I think I only say this about six times a year,
- 0:03Speaker 1: but this is my favorite show of the year right here.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Is it really? And I have about six of them.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Bold Prediction Friday here on the show where we'll take
- 0:11Speaker 1: everybody's three predictions. Some of you will end up only
- 0:14Speaker 1: sending one, and I don't know why that bothers me
- 0:16Speaker 1: so much. Go ahead and be plentiful. Take three bold predictions.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Three bold predictions. You can do it in our chat.
- 0:24Speaker 1: You can do it on Twitter at NextRoundLive. I'll even
- 0:28Speaker 1: get Brooks to monitor Instagram as well at Next Round
- 0:31Speaker 1: Live on Instagram. Make sure you like and follow everywhere.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Some of you have already beat me to the punch
- 0:36Speaker 1: on my social, so we'll try to get as many
- 0:38Speaker 1: of them as we can into the conversation today. In
- 0:42Speaker 1: this opening segment, we'll show you all five of our
- 0:45Speaker 1: bold predictions to sort of show you how it gets done.
- 0:48Speaker 1: And in segment two, we'll start rolling through these bold predictions.
- 0:51Speaker 1: And inevitably, Lance will say my favorite phrase. Let's see
- 0:56Speaker 1: if you know. What my favorite phrase is on this day?
- 0:58Speaker 2: Not really bold.
- 0:59Speaker 1: That's not really bold. That's not really bold at all.
- 1:01Speaker 1: That's not really bold at all.
- 1:02Speaker 2: You know, as I sent mine to Forrester the other day,
- 1:04Speaker 2: I was like, mine really aren't that bold this year.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Oh, wow. So Lance is the one that's not really bold.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Maybe you guys will disagree when I look at it.
- 1:11Speaker 2: I mean, I think all three are going to happen.
- 1:14Speaker 2: This might be the first time that I really believe
- 1:16Speaker 2: all three happen.
- 1:17Speaker 1: I'll give you a sneak peek. One of mine is.
- 1:21Speaker 1: A data center built near Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge
- 1:25Speaker 1: causes a power outage during a game. Is that bold?
- 1:28Speaker 2: That's bold.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Are they actually building one near Tiger Stadium? Oh, yeah.
- 1:32Speaker 2: I'm sure they are.
- 1:33Speaker 4: If there's open land, they're building it somewhere.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:36Speaker 2: But, you know, last year I did have Mendoza, first
- 1:38Speaker 2: team all, Big Ten quarterback, and people were like, what
- 1:41Speaker 2: in the hell are you talking about? So we've had
- 1:43Speaker 2: some crazy ones.
- 1:44Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 1:44Speaker 4: I mean, as Jim recapped them the other day, we
- 1:46Speaker 4: had Brian Kelly getting fired a lot in this show
- 1:49Speaker 4: last year. And none of us thought that was going
- 1:51Speaker 4: to happen.
- 1:52Speaker 1: That's right. Right in the middle of the season.
- 1:54Speaker 2: Did anybody have Franklin getting fired? Didn't you have somebody?
- 1:57Speaker 1: No.
- 1:59Speaker 4: There was something about Franklin. I forgot what it was.
- 2:02Speaker 4: We had Hugh Freeze. Hugh Freeze got fired in this
- 2:04Speaker 4: show a lot last year. That turned out to be true.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Yeah. Ended up Brian Kelly got fired more in this
- 2:07Speaker 1: show than Hugh Freeze. I know. Surprised he ended up
- 2:10Speaker 1: getting fired. We'll get to those bowl predictions coming up
- 2:12Speaker 1: throughout the show. It'll be the backdrop of all four
- 2:16Speaker 1: hours today, both here on Sporting State. and on our
- 2:19Speaker 1: next round platform in our final two hours of the day.
- 2:22Speaker 1: So don't rush, but get into the queue over there
- 2:26Speaker 1: with Brownie. Hopefully you've been working on him the whole offseason.
- 2:28Speaker 1: If you've been with us for 17 years, you know
- 2:31Speaker 1: that it's something we do, and some of you work
- 2:34Speaker 1: on him year-round. So hopefully you nail him this year
- 2:37Speaker 1: and all of our bold predictions come true. Before we
- 2:39Speaker 1: jump into what we saw last night on the diamond
- 2:42Speaker 1: in the turf in Major League Baseball and the NFL,
- 2:45Speaker 1: we want to give a big thank you to the
- 2:47Speaker 1: crew at Walk-Ons. for putting up with hundreds of our
- 2:51Speaker 1: listeners and viewers and us. To the great folks at
- 2:54Speaker 1: Bud Light and Alexander Shannara Trial Attorneys, the fifth anniversary,
- 2:59Speaker 1: sixth kickoff party was a success last night. My favorite
- 3:02Speaker 1: one to date so far. A massive success.
- 3:04Speaker 4: And I cannot tell you, as Scott shows you the picture,
- 3:07Speaker 4: for me personally, and I know you guys feel the
- 3:08Speaker 4: same way, how meaningful it was that Clay Travis, Jonathan Hutton,
- 3:13Speaker 4: and Chad Withrow would brave the traffic from Nashville to
- 3:17Speaker 4: Birmingham and basically to be there for two hours just
- 3:20Speaker 4: to drive back to nashville that was incredibly kind of
- 3:23Speaker 4: them and um i was i was glad they got
- 3:25Speaker 4: to meet some of our audience members yeah i.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Did not realize how much clay spent on a sprinter
- 3:29Speaker 2: van to have a driver bring them in town last
- 3:31Speaker 2: night you probably should have shopped that around a little
- 3:34Speaker 2: bit but uh yeah it was a great time last
- 3:38Speaker 2: night i didn't know what to expect because when i
- 3:39Speaker 2: was on my way i got a call and Somebody
- 3:41Speaker 2: was like, man, there's been two callers on Finebomb today
- 3:44Speaker 2: talking about y'all's kickoff party.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Oh, really?
- 3:46Speaker 2: And I was like, that is very, very random.
- 3:48Speaker 1: That is quite random. Were they going or not going?
- 3:51Speaker 2: There was. And then I met our buddy Chris that
- 3:53Speaker 2: was at the bar. And he's like, yeah, I called
- 3:55Speaker 2: in and told, you know, Finebomb, he needs to be there.
- 3:57Speaker 2: And Paul said he might drop by. And I was like,
- 3:59Speaker 2: not a chance at all. And then a woman followed
- 4:02Speaker 2: that up and said the same thing. I'm on my
- 4:04Speaker 2: way to the party. So I'm sure Paul really wanted
- 4:06Speaker 2: to hear that.
- 4:07Speaker 1: I'm sure Paul loved that. Okay. that was paul's all
- 4:10Speaker 1: right we continue now let's go to legend legend is.
- 4:12Speaker 4: Next ks redmill in the chat says anyone threw a
- 4:16Speaker 4: drink in clay's face the clay haters would not have
- 4:18Speaker 4: liked that last night because um clay got swarmed yeah
- 4:23Speaker 4: everybody getting their picture with clay shaking his hand talking
- 4:25Speaker 4: to him when.
- 4:26Speaker 1: Clay called me up he was like uh Dunaway, 100%
- 4:29Speaker 1: approval rating. Everyone loves me here.
- 4:31Speaker 4: I did not see one person get in his face
- 4:33Speaker 4: about anything.
- 4:35Speaker 2: I mean, there were a lot of people that I
- 4:36Speaker 2: hadn't met before that were like, hey, when's Chloe going
- 4:38Speaker 2: to get here? Because they get caught up in that
- 4:39Speaker 2: traffic and They ended up getting there at 645-ish, I think,
- 4:43Speaker 2: was around the time. But there were a lot of
- 4:45Speaker 2: people that just showed up, which I get it, to
- 4:47Speaker 2: meet Clay.
- 4:47Speaker 1: One of those was our good friend Russ. He was like,
- 4:49Speaker 1: where's Clay? And I stuck and trapped him.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Russ never got to meet him.
- 4:55Speaker 1: Never got to meet him. Scott, though, not our Scott,
- 4:58Speaker 1: but a different Scott, He drove almost as far as Clay.
- 5:03Speaker 1: He came from Athens, Alabama, which is on the border.
- 5:07Speaker 1: He drove all the way from Athens down just to
- 5:09Speaker 1: meet us and hang out with us last night. Yeah,
- 5:11Speaker 1: so we had Athens.
- 5:12Speaker 4: I talked to two brothers from Guntersville, a couple from
- 5:14Speaker 4: Auburn that has come every year I can remember.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Yeah, they were the first ones here last year because
- 5:19Speaker 1: I sat and talked with them. Ryan's his name. Yeah,
- 5:22Speaker 1: great name.
- 5:23Speaker 2: And his wife. Yeah.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Who's married to Ryan. That's right.
- 5:28Speaker 2: I love the name tags, but you know, I met
- 5:31Speaker 2: some guys sitting in the back of the bar and
- 5:33Speaker 2: one of them came up and started talking to him
- 5:35Speaker 2: and he's like, listen to the show every day at work.
- 5:38Speaker 2: And the other two guys were like, he does. And
- 5:40Speaker 2: I was like, I assume you guys don't want it
- 5:41Speaker 2: on there. They were like, we really don't care.
- 5:45Speaker 1: I will say it was cool.
- 5:46Speaker 4: The brothers from Guntersville, their dad loves our show, but
- 5:49Speaker 4: they're all, he's also a big fan of Clay's. and
- 5:52Speaker 4: likes Clay's work on Fox News and things like that.
- 5:54Speaker 4: And he wasn't there. And Clay was like, well, just
- 5:59Speaker 4: FaceTime him.
- 6:00Speaker 1: I'll talk to him.
- 6:01Speaker 4: So they called the dad up on FaceTime, and I
- 6:04Speaker 4: was standing there when they handed the phone to Clay,
- 6:06Speaker 4: and the dad's face lit up.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Oh, that's fantastic. Yeah, he was pumped.
- 6:09Speaker 4: And Clay talked to him four or five minutes on FaceTime,
- 6:12Speaker 4: and it was pretty cool to see.
- 6:13Speaker 2: Yeah, it's awesome when you see that. You guys remember
- 6:15Speaker 2: we were in Atlanta, and there was this girl that her–
- 6:20Speaker 2: sister-in-law was back in Sacramento and Barkley FaceTimed her, and
- 6:23Speaker 2: she started crying.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Huge Barkley fan. And Charles was like, just FaceTime her.
- 6:27Speaker 1: I'll talk to her.
- 6:27Speaker 4: So she FaceTimes, hands it to Charles, and the girl
- 6:30Speaker 4: literally starts crying talking to Barkley. A grown woman started crying.
- 6:34Speaker 1: It's Barkley, though. Yeah, I know. He's made a lot
- 6:37Speaker 1: of people cry. Let's see. What else was I going
- 6:39Speaker 1: to point out? Just so many people there last night.
- 6:45Speaker 1: It's becoming, it's a tradition now.
- 6:48Speaker 2: What, Shannara shutting it down?
- 6:49Speaker 1: He was the last one there. The Shannara giveaways that
- 6:52Speaker 1: they do, Mike, and this is just a random draw.
- 6:56Speaker 1: In fact, Clay, Travis, and others were drawing, but my
- 6:58Speaker 1: little golf group is two for two on Pappy now.
- 7:01Speaker 1: It is crazy.
- 7:02Speaker 2: And that is crazy, but there were two bottles given
- 7:04Speaker 2: away last night. And I thought one of the most
- 7:06Speaker 2: amazing things is there was a Nick Saban signed football
- 7:10Speaker 2: that was given away before the first bottle of Pappy.
- 7:13Speaker 2: The girl that won the Nick Saban football, who we know,
- 7:16Speaker 2: or the guy that won the Nick Saban football, who
- 7:18Speaker 2: we know, then the girl wins the Pappy, and she
- 7:21Speaker 2: trades her bottle of Pappy for a signed football.
- 7:25Speaker 1: That's right. But it's Nick Saban.
- 7:27Speaker 2: I told her I was the worst deal in history.
- 7:29Speaker 1: He's the Mac Pappy of college football.
- 7:31Speaker 4: And I was talking to the gentleman that ended up
- 7:33Speaker 4: with the Pappy, and another gentleman walked up and said,
- 7:37Speaker 4: how much would you take for it?
- 7:38Speaker 1: And the guy that won it laughed. He goes, no,
- 7:39Speaker 1: I'm serious. What's your price right now?
- 7:41Speaker 3: Yep.
- 7:42Speaker 4: Right there at walk-ons dude is negotiating a price for
- 7:45Speaker 4: the pappy with my buddy van the.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Last no no no the.
- 7:47Speaker 4: Second one that uh the first one that won it
- 7:49Speaker 4: yeah did he give him a price he did not
- 7:50Speaker 4: and he said i'm good man i'm keeping this because
- 7:52Speaker 4: my boy won the second one which was like a
- 7:54Speaker 4: 15 year or something yeah this was the 10 year
- 7:57Speaker 4: and i mean he said what name your price and
- 8:00Speaker 4: the guy that won it was like no i'm keeping this.
- 8:02Speaker 1: One credit credit to van he says uh He's only
- 8:05Speaker 1: going to drink it with the golf group by sometime
- 8:08Speaker 1: around the holidays around the campfire. Oh, nice. So I
- 8:11Speaker 1: look forward to tasting my first Pappy.
- 8:13Speaker 2: Average 15 right now is over $ 1, 600 a bottle.
- 8:17Speaker 1: What's the 10?
- 8:18Speaker 2: Because, I mean, it's going to drop a lot.
- 8:21Speaker 1: I mean, what's your guess?
- 8:21Speaker 4: $ 1, 000?
- 8:22Speaker 2: Probably not that much. Probably $ 600. He said, name your price.
- 8:26Speaker 2: I got cash.
- 8:27Speaker 1: My buddy Barry, who's a huge North Carolina fan, North
- 8:29Speaker 1: Carolina grad, he was there again this year. 750. In
- 8:32Speaker 1: the same group. So now in their little group that
- 8:34Speaker 1: has come every year, he's the only one that hasn't
- 8:36Speaker 1: won a bottle of Pappy yet.
- 8:37Speaker 2: Oh, no.
- 8:38Speaker 1: So he's already said, let me know when year three is.
- 8:40Speaker 1: I'm back next year.
- 8:40Speaker 4: It's got to be my turn. We know he'll be
- 8:43Speaker 4: back at least. About that time next year. But that is, man,
- 8:46Speaker 4: it is awesome. Our audience blows me away every single
- 8:48Speaker 4: year on this. Every year we do it, we're like, man,
- 8:51Speaker 4: this is year five, year six. Are people still going
- 8:53Speaker 4: to come? And people still come in droves.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Tyler knocked out his Death Valley last night.
- 8:57Speaker 1: That's right. I saw the bottom of the cup. Tyler
- 9:00Speaker 1: did finish it. I did.
- 9:01Speaker 5: And then someone bought me a shot of Rumpel and
- 9:04Speaker 5: wanted me to take it with them.
- 9:06Speaker 1: All right. And you topped it off with... everybody's favorite
- 9:09Speaker 1: sorority drink, Moscow Mule.
- 9:12Speaker 5: Scott says that was the first time he had ever
- 9:15Speaker 5: heard someone call Moscow Mule a girly drink.
- 9:17Speaker 2: I really do believe that is very popular with young. Oh,
- 9:20Speaker 2: that is a girl drink. I mean, I've drank them,
- 9:23Speaker 2: but it's a girl drink. I mean, look, I've got
- 9:25Speaker 2: a borderline Stanley up here. You can tell a guy's
- 9:29Speaker 2: sexual orientation if he's got.
- 9:30Speaker 1: A Stanley, typically.
- 9:31Speaker 2: This was something I grabbed on the way out. It's
- 9:34Speaker 2: the Yeti version of a Stanley. Did you get that
- 9:36Speaker 2: in Rush? I actually, it was a gift to Maddie
- 9:40Speaker 2: for Christmas last year. I just grabbed it on the
- 9:41Speaker 2: way out. So anyway, but I agree.
- 9:43Speaker 1: You gave Maddie a Rams gear?
- 9:44Speaker 2: Yeah. It works both ways, man. The dogs get Rams gear.
- 9:49Speaker 2: But the Moscow Mule is more of a feminine drink.
- 9:52Speaker 2: I mean, I think they're good. I think they're really good.
- 9:54Speaker 2: You know how you know? Because I love them.
- 9:57Speaker 1: That's how you know.
- 9:58Speaker 2: But I would rather get it outside of the cup.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Cup and nobody knows what you're drinking. Does that make sense?
- 10:02Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't care either way. Oh, I think something
- 10:04Speaker 1: about the Copper Cup that makes it stay cold and
- 10:08Speaker 1: I think it makes it perfect.
- 10:10Speaker 5: It makes me feel, I don't know, like a medieval peasant.
- 10:14Speaker 1: Oh, it does. It's like you slam it down on
- 10:16Speaker 1: the table when you're done.
- 10:17Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 10:18Speaker 4: Yeah hey credit that brooks was there he's got a
- 10:20Speaker 4: lot of stuff out on social credit i want to
- 10:22Speaker 4: credit scott to his daughter uh cheering at a football
- 10:24Speaker 4: game scott could only be there like half an hour
- 10:26Speaker 4: but he still drove through all that stupid traffic to
- 10:28Speaker 4: get there for half an hour so there was a
- 10:29Speaker 4: little bit yeah.
- 10:31Speaker 2: And we hated the fact that we had to do
- 10:32Speaker 2: it last night because scott did have you know it's
- 10:36Speaker 2: best dad in the world goes to all these events
- 10:38Speaker 2: and that's great and unfortunately, was only able to be
- 10:41Speaker 2: there for an abbreviated amount of time. Didn't think he
- 10:43Speaker 2: was going to come by at all, but that was
- 10:45Speaker 2: awesome for you to show up.
- 10:46Speaker 1: Technically, he could have stayed longer, showed up at halftime
- 10:49Speaker 1: of his daughter's high school football game and saw all
- 10:51Speaker 1: of their points in the second half.
- 10:52Speaker 7: Wow.
- 10:53Speaker 1: Sadly true. They were down 21-0 in the half. Should
- 10:56Speaker 1: have a lot to share about in the first half.
- 10:59Speaker 1: All right. Let's get to what we saw last night first.
- 11:02Speaker 1: You know, we're football season, so baseball probably on a
- 11:05Speaker 1: back burner until we get to the postseason. But Chris
- 11:09Speaker 1: Sell last night, for all you Braves fans out there,
- 11:12Speaker 1: he sent a message. Braves sweep the Dodgers, first off.
- 11:15Speaker 1: Sell throws a complete game. Nine innings, zero runs, 11 strikeouts.
- 11:21Speaker 1: I think I'm right about this. He struck out Otani
- 11:24Speaker 1: three times. That's hard to do. And I saw him pitching.
- 11:27Speaker 1: I saw a cut-up of that. The effort Sell was throwing,
- 11:31Speaker 1: almost sending a message to Otani, was amazing. What was crazy...
- 11:36Speaker 1: is afterwards a very emotional Chris Sell tells everyone why
- 11:40Speaker 1: this game meant more. Like his family went crazy when
- 11:43Speaker 1: he came back out for the ninth inning to finish
- 11:45Speaker 1: the deal. They showed the family, the kids and the
- 11:47Speaker 1: wife up in the stands. And when he came out
- 11:49Speaker 1: of the dugout just to finish the ninth, the little
- 11:51Speaker 1: kids went crazy. I saw that. I saw that.
- 11:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:55Speaker 1: And it was all because one of their close family friends,
- 12:00Speaker 1: Ashley Foss, had passed away earlier that day at the
- 12:03Speaker 1: age of 42 with an ailment she had been battling.
- 12:06Speaker 1: And he went out and dedicated that game to her.
- 12:09Speaker 1: And the family knew what was going on. And when
- 12:12Speaker 1: he came back out for the ninth, tears were flowing.
- 12:16Speaker 1: And he finished off the mighty Los Angeles Dodgers in
- 12:19Speaker 1: an Atlanta sweep.
- 12:20Speaker 2: And, you know, when his career was wrapping down in
- 12:22Speaker 2: Boston a few years ago, I mean, the guy's 37
- 12:24Speaker 2: years old. You thought he was literally, you know, not
- 12:27Speaker 2: only losing the fastball but losing a lot. And for
- 12:31Speaker 2: him to reinvent himself when he got to Atlanta– And
- 12:34Speaker 2: that pickup that they've had over the last three years
- 12:36Speaker 2: has been incredible. And I think Atlanta right now has
- 12:39Speaker 2: got a ton of confidence. Everybody's wondering who can knock
- 12:41Speaker 2: off the Dodgers in one of these seven-game series. Well,
- 12:45Speaker 2: Atlanta's 4-1 against the Dodgers this year.
- 12:46Speaker 4: Does that worry you as a Dodgers fan? I mean,
- 12:48Speaker 4: I know postseason's different than regular season for many, many reasons.
- 12:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it has to.
- 12:52Speaker 1: I mean, the Rays are going to have.
- 12:53Speaker 4: Confidence if they're able to face them. I mean, if
- 12:55Speaker 4: they get the Dodgers in the postseason, there's no reason
- 12:57Speaker 4: they wouldn't have confidence. Weiss can point to this and say, guys,
- 13:01Speaker 4: you all.
- 13:01Speaker 1: Have played them. I mean, he won't even have to.
- 13:04Speaker 1: Those are professional baseball players.
- 13:05Speaker 2: And by the way, they're only a game back of
- 13:08Speaker 2: the Dodgers if you're just looking at total record. So
- 13:10Speaker 2: it's not like, you know, the Dodgers get put on
- 13:12Speaker 2: this pedestal and it does seem like everything will kick
- 13:14Speaker 2: into gear once we get to the postseason going for
- 13:16Speaker 2: three consecutive World Series championships. But I'm a little skeptical
- 13:21Speaker 2: on this one.
- 13:23Speaker 1: NFL exhibition continues tonight. Last night. You know, 17 years,
- 13:27Speaker 1: we don't text as much as we did, say, year
- 13:29Speaker 1: one or year two, where every play we have a
- 13:31Speaker 1: thread going where we're texting all night long. But I did.
- 13:34Speaker 1: I didn't know Lance was still wrapping up at walk-ons.
- 13:37Speaker 1: I texted him at one point when an off, broken
- 13:42Speaker 1: play scrambled from Ty Simpson, avoiding a charger pass rush,
- 13:46Speaker 1: rolling near sideline as a right-hander. He has to twist
- 13:49Speaker 1: his body in air and throw a touchdown pass dime
- 13:54Speaker 1: And I just texted him, Ty Simpson is so much
- 13:56Speaker 1: better than Stetson Bennett.
- 13:58Speaker 2: I thought you had seen both. I didn't know what
- 14:00Speaker 2: I had missed in the first half, and then I
- 14:02Speaker 2: got to settle in. I got to watch everything because
- 14:03Speaker 2: I didn't think Stetson was going to play, and he
- 14:05Speaker 2: ultimately didn't play because that's kind of the way Sean
- 14:09Speaker 2: McVay does this. But Ty Simpson's been fantastic in the preseason.
- 14:13Speaker 1: Oh, my gosh.
- 14:14Speaker 2: He's looked so good. Last night, 18-23, 119, one touchdown.
- 14:16Speaker 2: But if you put the three performances together, week two
- 14:19Speaker 2: last week was his shakiest game. But overall, 47 of 60, 382,
- 14:24Speaker 2: three touchdowns, no picks. That is a 78% completion percentage
- 14:29Speaker 2: in his first preseason with a lot of pressure on him.
- 14:33Speaker 1: Still no way he's the backup in your mind?
- 14:35Speaker 2: I don't think so.
- 14:35Speaker 1: Let's hear from Sean McVay. Okay, Sean McVay, did he
- 14:37Speaker 1: answer this question? Sean McVay and Ty Simpson talking about
- 14:41Speaker 1: the backup quarterback situation with the Los Angeles Rams last night.
- 14:46Speaker 8: I thought the quarterbacks, I thought Ty played really well tonight.
- 14:49Speaker 8: Going into it, I wouldn't look too far into what
- 14:52Speaker 8: that was. It was just continuing to get him experience.
- 14:55Speaker 8: We've got three quarterbacks on our roster, obviously. We've got
- 14:57Speaker 8: the reigning MVP of the league. And then we've got
- 14:59Speaker 8: two guys that we feel really good about. And if
- 15:01Speaker 8: you say, hey, what does that really mean? That's what
- 15:03Speaker 8: it means.
- 15:03Speaker 1: We feel really good about those two guys.
- 15:06Speaker 8: I'm not pigeonholing myself into any sort of decision other
- 15:09Speaker 8: than I feel really good about Stetson Bennett, feel really
- 15:11Speaker 8: good about Ty Simpson, and I hope Matthew Caldwell is okay.
- 15:14Speaker 2: Has Sean communicated to you whether you'll be the backup
- 15:16Speaker 2: quarterback in Australia?
- 15:17Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, I don't really ask him that. You know,
- 15:21Speaker 6: I kind of just do what I'm told and go
- 15:24Speaker 6: in when I go in. You know, I think it
- 15:27Speaker 6: really doesn't really matter if I'm being honest, like what
- 15:30Speaker 6: I am, because this is Matthew's team. and, you know,
- 15:33Speaker 6: I'm behind him 100%, and I know Stetson is, and
- 15:36Speaker 6: there's nobody, you know, his biggest fans besides us, too. And,
- 15:41Speaker 6: you know, he has our support 100%, and, you know,
- 15:45Speaker 6: that's all that really matters.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Oh, what a tremendous answer there.
- 15:47Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 15:47Speaker 2: I was talking to our man Greg from Pell City
- 15:49Speaker 2: last night about Ty Simpson and talking about the luxury
- 15:51Speaker 2: he's got being able to come in, know that he's
- 15:54Speaker 2: playing behind the reigning MVP, knowing that it's going to
- 15:57Speaker 2: be his team sooner than later. Look, another luxury is
- 16:01Speaker 2: Sean McVay really– I mean, if this was for the
- 16:05Speaker 2: starting job, he would have a difficult decision, I think,
- 16:07Speaker 2: between Ty and Stetson.
- 16:09Speaker 4: But the good news is he doesn't really have to
- 16:11Speaker 4: make any kind of decision. The good news is you've
- 16:13Speaker 4: got the best quarterback room in the NFL. I mean,
- 16:15Speaker 4: I think that's the case.
- 16:16Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 16:17Speaker 4: I don't know which other one you would argue as
- 16:20Speaker 4: the depth that that quarterback room has in Los Angeles.
- 16:22Speaker 4: When you consider the starter, as Shami just said, is
- 16:25Speaker 4: the reigning MVP.
- 16:27Speaker 2: I mean, Josh Allen to Kyle Allen is a big drop.
- 16:29Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, you look at most starters to backups
- 16:32Speaker 4: is a big drop. But you've got a third that
- 16:36Speaker 4: is pushing one of the better backups in the league
- 16:37Speaker 4: right now, it appears.
- 16:39Speaker 1: Forrester, can you pop up the steel shot there? Am
- 16:41Speaker 1: I right? Is that his dad's UT Martin? Yeah, that's
- 16:44Speaker 1: the logo on the hat.
- 16:45Speaker 7: That is UTM gear. Is that Skyhawks?
- 16:48Speaker 1: Is that what they are? It's kind of a cool logo.
- 16:50Speaker 1: I actually like the logo.
- 16:51Speaker 2: I thought it was a Pelican's hat.
- 16:53Speaker 1: That's a cool-looking hat. I like that. I like the
- 16:55Speaker 1: way he's giving the dad's team a little pop there.
- 16:57Speaker 1: I do like that, yeah. Yeah.
- 16:59Speaker 4: Well, I mean, he acts like a coach's son. When
- 17:02Speaker 4: you say stuff like he just said, that's a coach's
- 17:04Speaker 4: son talking.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Yeah. By the way, Shadur Sanders looks like he's going
- 17:07Speaker 1: to be QB2. Dylan Gabriel looked good last night, but
- 17:11Speaker 1: so did Talon Green when he was in there for
- 17:13Speaker 1: the Browns. Browns win last night. San Francisco beat Las Vegas.
- 17:17Speaker 1: Mendoza's preseason line, LT, you just gave me Ty Simpson.
- 17:23Speaker 1: He's 25 of 45 for 240, a touchdown, and two picks.
- 17:27Speaker 2: Yeah, one of those to pick six. Has it been
- 17:30Speaker 2: good for Mendoza? Now you look at the situation, it's
- 17:32Speaker 2: completely different. You've got Clint Kubiak, a first-year coach, trying
- 17:35Speaker 2: to figure this whole thing out. Lack of weapons. I mean,
- 17:38Speaker 2: Jalen Naylor, you go out, you get him. That's probably
- 17:41Speaker 2: your best receiver. Brock Bowers, but the offensive line is still,
- 17:45Speaker 2: I mean, it's really rat shit when you look at it.
- 17:48Speaker 2: You look at Sean McVay's offense to Clint Kubiak's. I mean,
- 17:52Speaker 2: Simpson in a so much better situation than Mendoza.
- 17:54Speaker 1: All right. That's NFL Exhibition last night. More games today.
- 17:58Speaker 1: We'll tell you about them later on with Lance's lock
- 18:01Speaker 1: and give you some plays tonight, including a really interesting matchup.
- 18:05Speaker 1: I don't know who will play, but I'd like to
- 18:06Speaker 1: see the Bengals and the Eagles on the field together,
- 18:09Speaker 1: 7 o'clock on CBS tonight, if you want to watch that.
- 18:13Speaker 1: When we come back on the show, We will get
- 18:15Speaker 1: to our bold predictions and start getting to yours. So
- 18:18Speaker 1: start sending them in, three bold predictions, three bold predictions
- 18:22Speaker 1: for the college football season coming up. And it can
- 18:25Speaker 1: be as bold as you want to be. But try
- 18:28Speaker 1: to be perfect. Try to be 3-0, too. Be bold,
- 18:31Speaker 1: but be right. You don't even have to be right
- 18:34Speaker 1: on all three. Just be right on one of them.
- 18:35Speaker 1: Just be bold and wrong. Yeah, bold and right on
- 18:38Speaker 1: one of them. By the way, the Nick Saban documentary
- 18:41Speaker 1: announced yesterday the release date, October the 8th. Six parts
- 18:45Speaker 1: on ESPN. If you've seen the trailer, it looks like
- 18:48Speaker 1: it'll be fantastic. Julio Jones in tears talking about how
- 18:52Speaker 1: Nick Saban changed his life as not just a football
- 18:56Speaker 1: player but as a man. Sark and all the players. McCarron,
- 19:00Speaker 1: they all are in the documentary. And I forget how
- 19:02Speaker 1: many hours or minutes of unseen behind-the-scenes tape, film, Of
- 19:10Speaker 1: the Saban years that's available in this. They gave me
- 19:13Speaker 1: a number, Brooks.
- 19:14Speaker 9: It was hundreds of hours of unseen film, over 100
- 19:19Speaker 9: hours of unseen film is what the release said. Now,
- 19:23Speaker 9: when I posted that yesterday, I was like, how long
- 19:25Speaker 9: are these episodes going to be? I'm like, no, no,
- 19:27Speaker 9: it features over 100 hours of unseen films.
- 19:31Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 19:32Speaker 1: You won't see all 100 hours. They had 100 hours
- 19:35Speaker 1: of never seen before behind the scenes footage.
- 19:38Speaker 5: I imagine like at least 20 of those hours are
- 19:40Speaker 5: just Saban eating oatmeal cream pies.
- 19:43Speaker 1: Can't use all of it. You never saw it though.
- 19:45Speaker 1: October 8th and Conor O'Gara, you can go watch the
- 19:48Speaker 1: Conor O'Gara show. we just finished taping or actually doing
- 19:51Speaker 1: it live earlier this morning but you can go watch
- 19:53Speaker 1: it here on the platform on replay and he compared
- 19:57Speaker 1: it to um that he is hoping it rises to
- 20:01Speaker 1: and he thinks it can rise to the quality of
- 20:03Speaker 1: the last dance the jordan documentary that was very popular
- 20:08Speaker 1: during the pandemic Now, we don't have a pandemic going on,
- 20:12Speaker 1: and October 8th will be smack dab in the middle
- 20:14Speaker 1: of football season. So it won't get the numbers of
- 20:16Speaker 1: the last dance.
- 20:17Speaker 2: That's a bold prediction. That's a high bar.
- 20:20Speaker 1: But he was talking about the quality of the doc. Yeah.
- 20:22Speaker 1: So six-part Saban documentary. And this is something I'm looking
- 20:27Speaker 1: forward to coming up October 8th. on the ESPN platforms.
- 20:31Speaker 1: When we come back, Bowl Prediction Friday, we'll tell you
- 20:33Speaker 1: ours and start getting to yours. They're coming in over there, Brownie?
- 20:36Speaker 6: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 20:37Speaker 1: I got some ready to rock. All right. Got some
- 20:39Speaker 1: on my end as well. Looking forward to it. We're
- 20:42Speaker 1: here for four hours right here on the next round
- 20:44Speaker 1: presented by Hard Rock Bets right here on Sporting State.
- 20:47Speaker 1: I don't know if it's any indication of the kind
- 20:51Speaker 1: of season we're going to have, but we already had
- 20:53Speaker 1: a top 25 upset last night. That was in the
- 20:57Speaker 1: FCS rinks. But West Florida, who has moved up to
- 21:01Speaker 1: the FCS, they beat number 16 Southern Illinois last night, 34-31.
- 21:06Speaker 1: So the upsets are underway already. Look out. Just on
- 21:11Speaker 1: night one.
- 21:12Speaker 2: Pretty cool.
- 21:13Speaker 1: Also, Eastern Illinois beat our buddy at Murray State, 28-14.
- 21:17Speaker 1: Chattanooga got a win over West Georgia, 24-10. And I
- 21:21Speaker 1: told you West Florida over Southern Illinois, just some of
- 21:23Speaker 1: the games that happened last night. There was also Youngstown
- 21:26Speaker 1: played a game last night. They beat Mercy Hurst, 43-10.
- 21:30Speaker 1: Mercy Hurst scored a touchdown that is a top 10
- 21:35Speaker 1: play of the year probably. Bounced off some hands and
- 21:38Speaker 1: feet and ended up with a different guy in the
- 21:40Speaker 1: end zone for a touchdown. But the reason that game
- 21:42Speaker 1: was so popular on social media last night was the
- 21:46Speaker 1: fact that the whole broadcast, the Youngstown State Penguin, is
- 21:52Speaker 1: upside down in the center of the field. to the
- 21:55Speaker 1: viewing audience, and it was driving America, who was watching this, crazy.
- 21:59Speaker 2: I can understand that.
- 22:01Speaker 1: And I've done a broadcast from that place before, Sanford-Youngstown
- 22:05Speaker 1: State National Semifinal game. I did the broadcast. And they
- 22:09Speaker 1: put the cameras on the opposite side of the home
- 22:12Speaker 1: stands because that side of the stadium is so much bigger.
- 22:16Speaker 1: It almost looks like an SEC stadium on one side.
- 22:19Speaker 2: Oh, so this is normal for every broadcast.
- 22:21Speaker 1: Every broadcast.
- 22:21Speaker 5: Yes.
- 22:22Speaker 1: That side has skyboxes and a normal press box, but
- 22:26Speaker 1: the TV cameras.
- 22:27Speaker 4: Are on the opposite side. Can I recommend they just
- 22:30Speaker 4: flip the penguin? Why wouldn't you not just flip the penguin?
- 22:32Speaker 1: Do you play to the fans or do you play
- 22:34Speaker 1: to the TV broadcast?
- 22:34Speaker 4: You play to the TV broadcast if you're going to
- 22:36Speaker 4: put games on TV.
- 22:37Speaker 1: I mean, do you think the fans care that the
- 22:38Speaker 1: penguin is upside down?
- 22:39Speaker 9: No.
- 22:40Speaker 2: I mean, we say that. I don't know.
- 22:42Speaker 4: I mean, people are going to complain about anything, so
- 22:44Speaker 4: you probably do get complained. Why is the penguin upside down?
- 22:46Speaker 4: My kids love the penguin. I mean, how many games
- 22:49Speaker 4: are televised? Why can't you just flip it for the
- 22:50Speaker 4: televised games?
- 22:51Speaker 1: Well, I would assume they're all televised on ESPN +,
- 22:54Speaker 1: which I think this one was. There's no national television,
- 22:57Speaker 1: so there's a chance more people are at the game
- 22:59Speaker 1: than watching the game. I don't know. I don't know
- 23:01Speaker 1: the numbers. But I've been there before, and it's weird.
- 23:06Speaker 1: And we actually broadcast because of that. We built a
- 23:08Speaker 1: broadcast booth on the opposite side. Where back then, I
- 23:11Speaker 1: don't know if now, but back then there were no
- 23:13Speaker 1: bleachers on this side. Everything was on one side. So
- 23:15Speaker 1: it looks better on TV to be shooting back towards
- 23:17Speaker 1: the stands as opposed to empty trees. You see what
- 23:20Speaker 1: I'm saying? Yeah, no, I agree completely.
- 23:22Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 23:22Speaker 1: Upside down penguin, though. It is a cool logo. I've
- 23:24Speaker 1: always liked that logo. So they asked me when we
- 23:26Speaker 1: were doing that broadcast back in the early 90s. I
- 23:28Speaker 1: can't wait for this. Is it going to bother you
- 23:30Speaker 1: to do the broadcast from the broadcast booth? where the
- 23:33Speaker 1: cameras are actually backwards, and on your call screen, you'll
- 23:36Speaker 1: be watching them going this way, but on your screen,
- 23:38Speaker 1: they're going this way. I said, that'll bother me all
- 23:40Speaker 1: night long. Yes, of course it will. So we'll build
- 23:42Speaker 1: you scaffolding on the other side. Typical Jim. Who won
- 23:45Speaker 1: the game? Youngstown State beat Samford. Was that Terry Bowden's
- 23:50Speaker 1: Samford game?
- 23:51Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 23:51Speaker 1: And it was the scariest flight I've ever had home.
- 23:53Speaker 2: Was Jim Trestle coaching Youngstown?
- 23:55Speaker 1: He was. I think he was. Yeah, they were dominant
- 23:57Speaker 1: back then. They were dominant. what at the time was
- 24:00Speaker 1: a 1AA program.
- 24:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:01Speaker 1: Youngstown was the favorite, and they may have gone on
- 24:04Speaker 1: to win the national championship that year. That was before
- 24:06Speaker 1: the Dakotas of the Montanas took over 1AA football.
- 24:08Speaker 2: So did you almost die on the flight?
- 24:10Speaker 1: On the flight back, other than Las Vegas taking off
- 24:13Speaker 1: and then dying during takeoff. Not dying, but the engine
- 24:15Speaker 1: dying during takeoff where everybody, including the pilot, said that
- 24:18Speaker 1: was close to catastrophic.
- 24:20Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 24:20Speaker 1: When we shut down at the end of the Vegas runway.
- 24:23Speaker 1: That one was bad. The flight back from Youngstown stayed
- 24:25Speaker 1: on the team plane. It was snowing. It was almost
- 24:29Speaker 1: like a blizzard, but it was a snow thunderstorm. So
- 24:32Speaker 1: it was lightning and snowing during takeoff and all of that.
- 24:36Speaker 2: Don't say a lot of those.
- 24:37Speaker 1: And then we were bouncing the entire ride home. And
- 24:41Speaker 1: it may have been thunderstorming when we came back into Birmingham,
- 24:44Speaker 1: and it was just one of those that you'd be
- 24:45Speaker 1: going along and... I mean, it was... Their mascot's literally
- 24:50Speaker 1: the penguin. I mean, that should have been a hint
- 24:52Speaker 1: to you. There might be bad weather at takeoff in December.
- 24:54Speaker 1: Perfect 10 Mortgage bringing you this part of the show.

- 26:14Speaker 1: Our bold prediction Friday starts off with our five bold
- 26:18Speaker 1: predictions before we get to yours. And we're going to
- 26:21Speaker 1: start with Ryan Brown's first. Forrester has these already built
- 26:25Speaker 1: on graphic for us. So, Brown, give us your three guarantees. Oh,
- 26:29Speaker 1: and boy, you're going to love these. One at a time.
- 26:31Speaker 1: One at a time? Unveil number one, Forrester, because it
- 26:33Speaker 1: looks like Brown doesn't have it pulled up yet. I've
- 26:35Speaker 1: got to pull it up on my phone. He doesn't
- 26:36Speaker 1: remember his guarantees. I do not.
- 26:37Speaker 4: This year's team to start in the top ten and
- 26:40Speaker 4: finish unranked. I do one of these every year. The
- 26:43Speaker 4: Oklahoma Sooners. Schedule is too tough. Don't believe in Mateer.
- 26:48Speaker 4: Don't believe in Arbuckle. Lance is shaking his head yes
- 26:51Speaker 4: because he's big on Oklahoma and he likes the fact
- 26:53Speaker 4: that I'm fading of them. First team out, Oklahoma. They
- 26:57Speaker 4: are not going to finish in the top 25, Lance.
- 27:00Speaker 1: Your thoughts?
- 27:01Speaker 2: Well, I've got Oklahoma coming up in my three guarantees.
- 27:03Speaker 2: It's going to be a little bit different than Browns.
- 27:05Speaker 2: It is a really difficult schedule, but you start to
- 27:08Speaker 2: look at some of these top 10 teams and one
- 27:11Speaker 2: we'll preview on our 40 and 40 in a little bit.
- 27:13Speaker 2: A lot of these teams have brutal schedules.
- 27:15Speaker 1: That's right.
- 27:16Speaker 2: But really good teams are able to navigate through that.
- 27:20Speaker 4: Number two, on the other side of the Red River rivalry,
- 27:23Speaker 4: Arch Manning wins the Heisman Trophy. He finally lives up
- 27:27Speaker 4: to his preseason billing, Arch Manning does, and he wins
- 27:31Speaker 4: the Heisman Trophy.
- 27:33Speaker 1: Congrats in advance to the man.
- 27:34Speaker 2: Well, I think if it's really tight, like let's just
- 27:36Speaker 2: say it's Arch Manning and Dante Moore and the numbers
- 27:38Speaker 2: are comparable and the records, you know, they're one and
- 27:41Speaker 2: two and I think there's going to be kind of,
- 27:47Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 27:47Speaker 1: I think he gets a bit of the benefit of
- 27:48Speaker 1: the doubt.
- 27:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I think going back to 1998 and a lot
- 27:51Speaker 2: of people believe Peyton was robbed. And, you know, if
- 27:56Speaker 2: you go back to Uncle Archie Manning, how deep was
- 28:00Speaker 2: he on the Heisman voting?
- 28:02Speaker 1: I don't really know.
- 28:02Speaker 2: Was he a runner-up?
- 28:03Speaker 1: Might have been. He was a tremendous quarterback. I'm going
- 28:06Speaker 1: to say he was fourth. Okay.
- 28:09Speaker 2: But anyway, Manning's never won one. It's one thing that
- 28:11Speaker 2: has looted them. So I think if it is tied,
- 28:12Speaker 2: he would win it.
- 28:13Speaker 1: Wait, wait, wait. Can I get back row microphones as well? Forrester, Brooks,
- 28:20Speaker 1: you guys are younger. Would you call Brown, Arch, Manning, Winslow, Heisman?
- 28:23Speaker 1: That seems like a casual play there. That seems to be. Okay.
- 28:28Speaker 9: I just looked at Scott, and in a gem tone
- 28:31Speaker 9: of voice, I said, Not that bold.
- 28:34Speaker 2: How long have you worked here, Brooks?
- 28:37Speaker 1: A year this week. That's about right. It takes about
- 28:41Speaker 1: a year to rub off on you. There you go.
- 28:43Speaker 1: About a year. Did you make that sound? I did.
- 28:46Speaker 7: You have to sell it with a.
- 28:48Speaker 1: Did you make that sound? Not that bold.
- 28:51Speaker 4: Not that bold. No, the Jim line would have been, oh,
- 28:54Speaker 4: I thought these were bold predictions. Well, I mean, he
- 28:57Speaker 4: is the favorite. I mean, he is the favorite.
- 29:00Speaker 1: May I ask a question?
- 29:02Speaker 2: Coming up next, Ohio State to win the national championship.
- 29:05Speaker 4: No, my next one you're going to love. May I
- 29:07Speaker 4: ask this question? In your opinion, how often does the
- 29:10Speaker 4: favorite win the Heisman?
- 29:12Speaker 1: Not often. Then bold.
- 29:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 29:15Speaker 5: Uncle Archie was fourth in 1969 and third in 1970.
- 29:20Speaker 1: Take me to Granddad Archie, not Uncle Archie. There we go.
- 29:23Speaker 2: I don't know why I said Uncle Archie.
- 29:26Speaker 1: And Brown's third one is?
- 29:27Speaker 4: Number three, Clemson wins the ACC and Dabo Sweeney retires.
- 29:32Speaker 1: How about that?
- 29:33Speaker 2: That's bold.
- 29:33Speaker 1: How about that? Why would I retire? I just walked.
- 29:36Speaker 1: He's Dabo.
- 29:37Speaker 4: I've done it. I'm going to walk out. I do
- 29:39Speaker 4: not like NFL players.
- 29:40Speaker 1: Green eggs and ham.
- 29:42Speaker 2: I do not like green eggs and ham.
- 29:43Speaker 4: I don't like NFL players coming back. I don't like
- 29:45Speaker 4: what this game's become. Dabo retires.
- 29:48Speaker 1: Clemson wins the ACC and Dabo retires.
- 29:49Speaker 2: Had a nice Clemson discussion at our party last night.
- 29:52Speaker 2: I did not realize somebody that is in our circle...
- 29:56Speaker 2: that now works for our guys is actually Tom Allen's daughter.
- 30:00Speaker 2: Did you meet her last night?
- 30:01Speaker 1: That's Tom Allen's daughter?
- 30:02Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 30:02Speaker 1: I did not know that. I talked to her for
- 30:03Speaker 1: a while, yeah.
- 30:04Speaker 2: I talked to her about Bloomington because she spent her
- 30:06Speaker 2: high school years there when Tom was the head coach.
- 30:08Speaker 1: How about that?
- 30:09Speaker 2: Talked to little Dabo and Clemson and, yeah, good people.
- 30:12Speaker 1: In an awkward Jim way, this may have gone this way.
- 30:17Speaker 1: I'm talking to my buddy Russ, and she's standing right there,
- 30:20Speaker 1: and I was like, Man, do you have, is Sig
- 30:23Speaker 1: one of your clients? I mean, this, I mean, he's
- 30:25Speaker 1: doing a fantastic job in Indiana. No, you didn't. Hey,
- 30:28Speaker 1: by the way, this is Tom Allen's daughter. That's how
- 30:30Speaker 1: Russ cut it off in the past.
- 30:32Speaker 2: Because you know where the conversation turned.
- 30:34Speaker 1: Before you kill Sig, this, the dad coached for him.
- 30:37Speaker 2: Last night it was, you know, and Russ immediately, you know,
- 30:40Speaker 2: it's amazing what money can do for a program when
- 30:42Speaker 2: they start to invest in the program.
- 30:44Speaker 1: That's right.
- 30:45Speaker 2: You know, basically saying that Tom didn't have these resources.
- 30:48Speaker 1: Back in the day. Yeah. All right, and let's do
- 30:51Speaker 1: Lance's next. Bold predictions from LT. Scott has those bullet
- 30:55Speaker 1: pointed for us. Yeah, I think we're going to start
- 30:58Speaker 1: with a USC right here.
- 30:59Speaker 2: And Jaden Maiva is going to be a first-team All-Big
- 31:04Speaker 2: Ten quarterback, a Heisman finalist, yet USC will go 9-3
- 31:08Speaker 2: and miss the college football playoff. That is so Lincoln Riley. Yeah,
- 31:11Speaker 2: and I really believe this. I mean, I think Maiva's
- 31:13Speaker 2: going to be that good. Now, I think the focus
- 31:15Speaker 2: is going to be running the football, but still, Maiva,
- 31:17Speaker 2: you can't. Can't doubt the talent. I think he's second
- 31:21Speaker 2: in odds right now to lead the Big Ten in
- 31:23Speaker 2: passing behind Dante Moore. I think he's going to be
- 31:26Speaker 2: the guy, and I think USC is going to be
- 31:27Speaker 2: really good, but not good enough.
- 31:29Speaker 1: Yeah, see, what's crazy is the second and third part
- 31:33Speaker 1: of your first guarantee seems believable, but I still believe
- 31:40Speaker 1: Maiva can be a Heisman finalist, but Dante Moore be
- 31:43Speaker 1: there as well. USC can miss the playoffs. Oregon can
- 31:46Speaker 1: be in. and still Maiva not be the first team.
- 31:49Speaker 1: Like the hardest thing on that line for him to
- 31:51Speaker 1: get is to be the all Big Ten number one quarterback. Yeah,
- 31:53Speaker 1: I would agree. Because he could be a top four
- 31:55Speaker 1: finalist in the Heisman and still be the second team
- 31:58Speaker 1: all Big Ten quarterback.
- 31:59Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah.
- 32:00Speaker 1: That's how good Dante Moore is.
- 32:01Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, I think if it's close, I could see
- 32:05Speaker 2: them lean USC on that. My next one, I don't
- 32:09Speaker 2: know how bold this is, but I think this is
- 32:10Speaker 2: legitimate too. The loser of Ohio State and Texas will
- 32:14Speaker 2: end up, being the first three-loss team in the college
- 32:17Speaker 2: football playoff.
- 32:19Speaker 1: I like that pick. I believe we'll get a three-loss team.
- 32:23Speaker 1: Alabama was a three-loss conference championship game loser. I think
- 32:27Speaker 1: we'll get a legit three-loss regular season team this year.
- 32:30Speaker 2: Well, we know the Bar is the Big Ten in
- 32:32Speaker 2: the SEC, and that out-of-conference game early in the season,
- 32:36Speaker 2: I don't think it's going to hurt either one of
- 32:37Speaker 2: those teams. And both have brutal schedules. Texas, brutal in
- 32:40Speaker 2: the SEC. Ohio State, we'll get to that in a
- 32:43Speaker 2: little bit. Brutal in the Big Ten. But I think
- 32:45Speaker 2: one of those teams is going to go 9-3 and
- 32:47Speaker 2: get into the college football playoff. And finally, this one
- 32:51Speaker 2: completely opposite of Brown, despite their difficult schedule, Oklahoma will
- 32:54Speaker 2: go 10-2 and play in their first ever SEC championship game.
- 32:58Speaker 1: Boomer Sooner. On the flip side of you there, Brown.
- 33:00Speaker 1: Is that bold? That is bold. We're on opposite sides there.
- 33:05Speaker 1: The consensus seems to be that nobody's going to go
- 33:08Speaker 1: through the SEC regular season unbeaten and that 10-2 is
- 33:12Speaker 1: going to Be the SEC championship game.
- 33:16Speaker 2: Georgia's going to be 11-1 or 10-2. Yeah. But I
- 33:19Speaker 2: do think that we're going to have three or four 10-2s,
- 33:22Speaker 2: and somehow Oklahoma's going to win that title.
- 33:25Speaker 1: Yeah, like they said about Josh Pates when he did
- 33:28Speaker 1: all the SEC standings, And I forget who pointed it
- 33:32Speaker 1: out when he was on with us. That means everybody
- 33:33Speaker 1: went 45-3 in out-of-conference games. Yeah, it was Danny Connell. Yeah,
- 33:37Speaker 1: it was Connell, yeah.
- 33:38Speaker 5: 45-3.
- 33:38Speaker 2: It's going to be really difficult. It's a big year.
- 33:41Speaker 1: All right. Next up is Scott's bold prediction. Three bold picks.
- 33:46Speaker 1: All of yours coming up in the rest of the
- 33:48Speaker 1: show after this segment. Scott, what is yours?
- 33:50Speaker 7: All right.
- 33:53Speaker 1: Do you spell Forrester correct, by the way, on that graphic?
- 33:56Speaker 3: It's only one R. I do know how to spell
- 33:58Speaker 3: my last name.
- 33:59Speaker 2: If Brown didn't spell it right, they would let him know.
- 34:01Speaker 7: A lot of people do the double R's thing.
- 34:03Speaker 4: I think I did it a long time after you
- 34:05Speaker 4: started here. I've learned it.
- 34:06Speaker 1: It's only one R.
- 34:07Speaker 7: It is just the one R there.
- 34:09Speaker 1: I may have double R's on my phone. I'm not sure.
- 34:10Speaker 7: All right.
- 34:11Speaker 3: Coming in hot with my hottest take. I love me
- 34:15Speaker 3: some Charles Huff. Charles Huff has taken Memphis to the playoff.
- 34:18Speaker 6: Wow.
- 34:19Speaker 1: I don't think they get out the weekend. I want
- 34:20Speaker 1: to know. Hey, but if they do.
- 34:23Speaker 2: That would be a big, you know, they're only a
- 34:24Speaker 2: four-point dog right now. But, Scott, that would be a
- 34:28Speaker 2: step in the right direction. Yeah, I think he's a
- 34:30Speaker 2: great coach.
- 34:30Speaker 1: By the way.
- 34:31Speaker 7: I'm probably a sucker for good sound bites.
- 34:34Speaker 3: He's a good one. And Charles Huff can deliver some.
- 34:38Speaker 3: All right, number two. Alabama still cannot run the football.
- 34:42Speaker 1: Oh.
- 34:43Speaker 7: But Keelan's going to take them to the playoff anyway.
- 34:45Speaker 1: Oh, wow.
- 34:46Speaker 2: We saw that last year, right? Exactly.
- 34:48Speaker 7: Kind of a repeat of last year.
- 34:50Speaker 1: Alabama makes the playoff. Is that really bold?
- 34:53Speaker 7: Well, you're going to say the same thing about the
- 34:55Speaker 7: next one.
- 34:56Speaker 2: No, real quick, though, Scott, I do think it's bold.
- 34:58Speaker 2: If they can't run the football and they get to
- 35:00Speaker 2: the college football playoff again, that'd be pretty insane.
- 35:04Speaker 7: We already saw it. All right.
- 35:06Speaker 3: And this one's only bold because we haven't seen it.
- 35:11Speaker 3: Oregon finally gets it done.
- 35:13Speaker 7: They win it all. Wow.
- 35:14Speaker 1: Yep. Some people's pick to win it all, obviously, but
- 35:18Speaker 1: it's a lot of people's pick.
- 35:19Speaker 2: A lot of people's.
- 35:20Speaker 1: Technically hasn't won a big game yet in the playoffs, right?
- 35:23Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, if you polled people, I know they're
- 35:26Speaker 2: not number one in the polls, but it seems like
- 35:28Speaker 2: more people have Oregon winning the national championship than anybody else.
- 35:31Speaker 1: I would agree. I think they're considered the best roster
- 35:34Speaker 1: in college football.
- 35:37Speaker 2: I think it's the best roster he's had. I don't
- 35:39Speaker 2: think it's better than Texas.
- 35:40Speaker 9: Of all of– I've been putting returning starters listed on
- 35:44Speaker 9: all of the 40 and 40 teams that we've done.
- 35:45Speaker 1: They had the most.
- 35:46Speaker 9: They had 15 starters back, eight on defense. I mean,
- 35:50Speaker 9: they got a lot of– a loaded roster coming back.
- 35:53Speaker 1: And a great portal class that came in as well.
- 35:55Speaker 2: Yeah. Virginia's close. I know they can't win a national championship.
- 35:59Speaker 1: Was that a true story I saw for NC State
- 36:02Speaker 1: Virginia that they're missing a huge number of players for
- 36:05Speaker 1: the game tomorrow? Yeah, I think the original– I think
- 36:07Speaker 1: there were 16 players on– Was it NC State's injury
- 36:11Speaker 1: report or Virginia's? It was Virginia's. Virginia's, yeah.
- 36:13Speaker 4: That's out for the game tomorrow. Yeah, 16 players were,
- 36:15Speaker 4: but that was the first injury report they dropped.
- 36:17Speaker 1: I don't know. I guess if they dropped it yesterday.
- 36:21Speaker 2: Like, is it a sickness?
- 36:22Speaker 1: I don't know. It looked like it was some kind
- 36:24Speaker 1: of academic issue or something. 18 players are listed on
- 36:26Speaker 1: the official injury report.
- 36:28Speaker 4: And we call it injury report, but it's actually the
- 36:30Speaker 4: availability report. So it could be things like. Something to
- 36:33Speaker 4: keep an eye on.
- 36:34Speaker 2: Did you mention academics?
- 36:35Speaker 1: Well, this is Virginia. If there is a place. Well,
- 36:37Speaker 1: maybe it's not academics, but it seemed to be some
- 36:39Speaker 1: kind of. something but maybe it's just an injury they
- 36:43Speaker 1: were just trying to scare betters or something that is
- 36:46Speaker 1: something to keep an eye on on that nc state
- 36:47Speaker 1: virginia game which i picked months ago as nc state
- 36:50Speaker 1: winning if they're without 16 people count me in count
- 36:55Speaker 1: me in 18 um all right brooks is next brooks
- 36:58Speaker 1: brooks give us your bold predictions.
- 37:02Speaker 9: So my first one, um, I'm going to take the
- 37:05Speaker 9: combination of the sec Miami and Notre Dame and the
- 37:09Speaker 9: big 10 gets shut out of the national championship.
- 37:13Speaker 1: Oh, they're back to earth.
- 37:14Speaker 2: Shut that mouth.
- 37:16Speaker 1: Uh, sit down in your corner.
- 37:17Speaker 2: Big 10.
- 37:17Speaker 1: Yeah, I would.
- 37:18Speaker 9: Um, this could be a, just a little bit of
- 37:20Speaker 9: Homer spirit in me. I would, I would love to
- 37:23Speaker 9: see the big 10 get shut out of the national
- 37:25Speaker 9: championship game. Uh, but, um, actually, I think there's a
- 37:29Speaker 9: good possibility of it depending on how the matchups go
- 37:31Speaker 9: in the college football playoff. Uh, I think we've built
- 37:34Speaker 9: a lot of stock into, uh, a program in Oregon
- 37:36Speaker 9: that has never done it. Uh, and, um, you know,
- 37:40Speaker 9: Miami's got a lot of talent back. I actually think
- 37:42Speaker 9: Notre Dame and Marcus Freeman have a really good chance
- 37:44Speaker 9: to make a run in the college football playoff. And
- 37:46Speaker 9: I just feel like the secs do. And, um, I
- 37:49Speaker 9: think the combination of those two schools and the sec
- 37:53Speaker 9: will shut the big 10 out. My number two, uh,
- 37:56Speaker 9: Hasn't happened since 1999. Auburn gets a 1,000-yard receiver this year.
- 38:01Speaker 2: Wow.
- 38:02Speaker 9: I like Keyshawn Singleton. He had almost 900 yards receiving
- 38:07Speaker 9: last year for USF. They like to throw the ball around.
- 38:11Speaker 9: Alex Golish has produced several 1,000-yard receivers in his time
- 38:15Speaker 9: as a play caller at UCF and Tennessee and at USF.
- 38:20Speaker 9: So for the first time this century, Auburn will have
- 38:24Speaker 9: a 1,000-yard receiver. And my last one, too much noise,
- 38:28Speaker 9: too much negativity surrounding this program. I think LSU flops
- 38:31Speaker 9: in year one under Lincoln.
- 38:33Speaker 6: Wow.
- 38:33Speaker 2: Yeah. I don't know if they flop. I'm with you
- 38:35Speaker 2: on the four losses, though. I think eight and four
- 38:37Speaker 2: could be that number.
- 38:38Speaker 1: All right. Bold predictions. The last one from the group
- 38:41Speaker 1: before we get to yours is mine. And so I
- 38:45Speaker 1: hate to do it last because here comes all the
- 38:48Speaker 1: shots at me.
- 38:49Speaker 5: Hmm.
- 38:50Speaker 1: Here's the first one. Hey, who chose the order on this?
- 38:52Speaker 1: I know. You literally did this.
- 38:54Speaker 6: Yep.
- 38:54Speaker 1: Who's up first, Forrester? Pretend you're my teleprompter. Texas misses
- 39:00Speaker 1: the college football playoffs and Sark gets bought out.
- 39:03Speaker 2: That's bold. Texas does not want to reset this thing.
- 39:07Speaker 2: I mean, he's averaged right out 10 wins a season
- 39:09Speaker 2: his first five years. I think it would be difficult.
- 39:13Speaker 2: I mean, are you saying like seven and five, eight
- 39:15Speaker 2: and four?
- 39:16Speaker 1: Eight and four.
- 39:18Speaker 2: Boy, I don't know what you do.
- 39:20Speaker 1: I mean, I'd.
- 39:21Speaker 2: Probably stick with him, but who gets the job? Who
- 39:24Speaker 2: would you hire?
- 39:25Speaker 1: I mean, that's the thing. Who would I hire? That's
- 39:27Speaker 1: the thing I say to Alabama fans. Like Yoko. I
- 39:31Speaker 1: was them, I would go hire John Summerall. I know
- 39:34Speaker 1: that's crazy, but I really believe he's going to be
- 39:35Speaker 1: that good. He's a guy that could park his tractor
- 39:38Speaker 1: in Austin and stay there the rest of his career.
- 39:40Speaker 2: But what if Summerall's 6-6? And does Summerall take the job?
- 39:43Speaker 2: Would you leave Florida to take Texas? I know Texas
- 39:45Speaker 2: is better, but I don't know that it's automatic.
- 39:49Speaker 1: Second bowl prediction. Navy, BYU, and USC all make the
- 39:55Speaker 1: college football playoff first-timers this year. Navy, BYU, USC in
- 39:59Speaker 1: the playoffs.
- 40:00Speaker 2: I could see it. I mean, it's going to be
- 40:02Speaker 2: difficult for you to get a trifecta of newbies like that,
- 40:05Speaker 2: but I like where Navy is this year. Obviously, BYU,
- 40:09Speaker 2: a one-bid league, but boy, they're going to be really good.
- 40:11Speaker 2: And then USC's got a difficult schedule, but they're going
- 40:13Speaker 2: to be good.
- 40:14Speaker 1: Navy's the group of six winning the American. BYU wins
- 40:17Speaker 1: the Big 12. USC's the fourth Big Ten team. That's
- 40:20Speaker 1: how they get in. So that's my pick there. And
- 40:22Speaker 1: then the third one, pretty amazing here. Purdue goes winless
- 40:28Speaker 1: in the Big Ten for the third straight season. They've
- 40:31Speaker 1: gone 0-9, 0-9. I think they do it again. How
- 40:34Speaker 1: do they sell tickets?
- 40:36Speaker 2: Man, that, I mean, you got to trip up and
- 40:38Speaker 2: win a game, don't you?
- 40:40Speaker 1: You got to mess up and win one. These are
- 40:43Speaker 1: Big Ten games only now, so not counting, but That
- 40:47Speaker 1: Big Ten has gotten better in the middle, great at
- 40:50Speaker 1: the top, and Purdue is down at the bottom. Apparently
- 40:52Speaker 1: still bad at the bottom. Yeah. So that's my three guarantees.
- 40:56Speaker 1: That's everybody's three guarantees. It is yours the rest of
- 41:00Speaker 1: the show, other than Todd Furman, who will join us
- 41:02Speaker 1: at the top of the hour on Sporting State and
- 41:05Speaker 1: later in the next round part of the show. Hour 3,
- 41:08Speaker 1: around 1130 Central, Brooks Austin, the film guy, now with
- 41:12Speaker 1: On 3 Sports, will be with us. All that when
- 41:14Speaker 1: we continue on. This is the next round, presented by
- 41:16Speaker 1: Hard Rock Bets right here on Sporting State. You don't
- 41:19Speaker 1: always know what's in people's heart or mind. People could
- 41:22Speaker 1: be nice and have evil in their heart, and then
- 41:26Speaker 1: people could do a bad thing or produce a bad
- 41:28Speaker 1: thing and have good in their heart. And I don't
- 41:30Speaker 1: know the good, good guys, but... That little snippet commercial,
- 41:35Speaker 1: I don't really, in my heart of hearts, it's hard
- 41:37Speaker 1: to imagine that they were somehow condoning violence against women
- 41:41Speaker 1: when they were making that. But, boy, they are suffering. Yesterday,
- 41:46Speaker 1: Calloway pulls all relationships with good good. So that Callaway
- 41:51Speaker 1: can get back into stores and things like that. And
- 41:53Speaker 1: the good, good CEO came out pretty hard against Callaway. Like,
- 41:56Speaker 1: you know, hey, you approved the ad. We did the ad,
- 41:59Speaker 1: you approved it, and now you're punishing us.
- 42:02Speaker 2: Yeah, that's pathetic on Callaway's part. If they did approve it,
- 42:05Speaker 2: you got to stand behind them. Weather the storm, at least.
- 42:08Speaker 1: So that's a bad situation there. And again, you never know,
- 42:12Speaker 1: even if people are acting right, they may have evil
- 42:14Speaker 1: in their heart. I just find it hard to believe
- 42:17Speaker 1: that a group of guys would, would be promoting violence
- 42:21Speaker 1: against women. Maybe it's an accident. We could have a
- 42:24Speaker 1: forgiving heart sometime. We'll see how that plays out. I'll
- 42:26Speaker 1: tell you.
- 42:26Speaker 4: What gets dug up is one of those old This
- 42:28Speaker 4: Is SportsCenter commercials, and there's a guy in a football
- 42:31Speaker 4: uniform leveling a female in the back of the office.
- 42:34Speaker 4: It's not on the front of the screen, but somebody's
- 42:37Speaker 4: typing at a desk, and this girl's walking through a
- 42:40Speaker 4: stack of papers, and a guy levels her and hits
- 42:41Speaker 4: her to the floor. It's the same exact thing.
- 42:43Speaker 2: I think it's different, though. Based on this, that guy's
- 42:47Speaker 2: terrorizing the entire office. This seemed more like you're touching
- 42:51Speaker 2: my club. And you brought this up, the club is
- 42:54Speaker 2: more valuable than you. I mean, there is a difference there.
- 42:58Speaker 2: A little bit.
- 42:59Speaker 5: So I just watched the ad for the first time
- 43:01Speaker 5: just now. Yesterday we said it was supposed to be
- 43:04Speaker 5: a parody of Obsession. I've seen that movie three times
- 43:08Speaker 5: and I don't get the.
- 43:09Speaker 1: I didn't either.
- 43:10Speaker 5: It's such a bad commercial. It doesn't offend me, but...
- 43:14Speaker 5: It was poorly made.
- 43:16Speaker 1: I think they're only saying that because it starts off
- 43:19Speaker 1: in obsession with the boss belittling and giving a hard
- 43:22Speaker 1: time to the secretary when they're in the office. And
- 43:24Speaker 1: then when they're shipwrecked, she's got the power.
- 43:26Speaker 2: No, that's not obsession.
- 43:28Speaker 1: That's a different movie. Send help.
- 43:29Speaker 2: All right.
- 43:31Speaker 1: It's a good movie, though. Completely different. Hey, our show.
- 43:34Speaker 1: You know what's wrong? I haven't had my Crockett coffee
- 43:37Speaker 1: this morning. That's what's wrong. Show me Davy Crockett surfing
- 43:40Speaker 1: on crocodiles. This is the coffee that's on by Clay Travis,
- 43:44Speaker 1: Buck Sexton, and Buck's brother Mason. Davy Crockett, the hunter,
- 43:48Speaker 1: the storyteller, the patriot. He's the symbol of this coffee
- 43:53Speaker 1: because the coffee is that good. It's American-made, right in
- 43:55Speaker 1: the heartland. It ships fresh, roasted, not sitting in warehouses
- 43:59Speaker 1: for half a year. You can get it light-roasted, medium-roasted, dark-roasted, decaffeinated, organic.
- 44:04Speaker 1: Even that mushroom blend, you can get it whole bean,
- 44:07Speaker 1: ground coffee, K-cups. However you make it in the morning...
- 44:10Speaker 1: Set up a subscription. It shows up on time, on schedule.
- 44:13Speaker 1: You can change it or cancel it anytime the way
- 44:15Speaker 1: the free market in America intended for it to happen.
- 44:18Speaker 1: Free shipping. Orders of $ 59 or more gets you that
- 44:22Speaker 1: free shipping, and there's always discounts for veterans. And the
- 44:25Speaker 1: Crockett partners have teamed with Tunnel to Towers, building mortgage-free
- 44:29Speaker 1: homes for the families of fallen service members. and those
- 44:32Speaker 1: injured veterans and first responders. It's good coffee, made in America,
- 44:36Speaker 1: doing some good. CrockettCoffee.com, that's Crockett, C-R-O-C-K-E-T-T, CrockettCoffee.com. Bold prediction time.
- 44:44Speaker 1: I'll get to some of my phone in a second,
- 44:46Speaker 1: but in the chat room, Brownie, let's roll back to...
- 44:50Speaker 1: The start of the show, give me bold prediction number
- 44:53Speaker 1: one from our audience.
- 44:54Speaker 4: First one in, Michael Bills. Ryan Coleman-Williams is a 1,000-yard
- 44:59Speaker 4: receiver this year.
- 45:01Speaker 1: According to Michael, that's his first bold prediction. Not bold.
- 45:04Speaker 6: Okay.
- 45:04Speaker 2: Okay.
- 45:05Speaker 1: Based on last year, it is.
- 45:07Speaker 2: Yeah, but, I mean, what's the expectation? Ryan Coleman Williams
- 45:09Speaker 2: is supposed to be one of the best receivers this
- 45:11Speaker 2: year in college football. Major bounce-back year.
- 45:14Speaker 1: I think 2021, Brooks, is the last time Alabama had
- 45:17Speaker 1: a 1,000-yard receiver.
- 45:19Speaker 7: Or rusher.
- 45:19Speaker 2: 8-1.
- 45:20Speaker 1: Wow, geez.
- 45:22Speaker 4: Prediction number two, Texas goes 8-4. Misses the college football
- 45:26Speaker 4: playoffs at 8-4.
- 45:27Speaker 2: Yeah, it's pretty bold. I mean, that's where Dunaway was.
- 45:29Speaker 1: That's what I said.
- 45:30Speaker 4: And his bowl prediction number three, Treshawn Brown is the
- 45:34Speaker 4: breakout player for the Southeastern Conference. For those that don't know,
- 45:37Speaker 4: that's one of the Alabama running backs that probably will
- 45:40Speaker 4: get a lot of carries.
- 45:41Speaker 1: Early on.
- 45:42Speaker 2: Treshawn Brown. That would be bold.
- 45:44Speaker 1: SEC breakout player of the year. One of those three-star
- 45:46Speaker 1: Boise State verbals at one point that flipped to Alabama.
- 45:50Speaker 1: So pretty cool there.
- 45:51Speaker 4: Charles, his bold prediction. Number one, USC wins the Big Ten.
- 45:55Speaker 4: He's opposite of you, Lance. He's got them winning the
- 45:57Speaker 4: Big Ten.
- 45:58Speaker 2: I hope Charles is right. That would be pretty incredible.
- 46:00Speaker 2: With the schedule, I just don't see it. Georgia.
- 46:03Speaker 1: That would take them winning that massive game against Oregon.
- 46:09Speaker 2: 10-2 could get them to the game.
- 46:10Speaker 1: Get them to the game and then win it there, yeah.
- 46:12Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 46:13Speaker 1: Georgia goes 8-4.
- 46:15Speaker 2: That's bold.
- 46:15Speaker 1: That is bold. The team could be an 8-4 team,
- 46:20Speaker 1: but with that schedule, it's hard to find them. I
- 46:23Speaker 1: don't think Georgia is. I think Georgia's really good, 11-1, 12-0.
- 46:26Speaker 1: But 8-4 with that schedule is even tougher.
- 46:29Speaker 4: And the rambling wreck of Georgia Tech wins the ACC,
- 46:33Speaker 4: according to him.
- 46:33Speaker 2: That is quite bold. Yeah.
- 46:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 46:36Speaker 2: What a year for Brent Key, if that is the fact.
- 46:38Speaker 2: And the state of Georgia. I imagine Georgia Tech wins it.
- 46:41Speaker 1: They get in.
- 46:42Speaker 2: Georgia's out. That would be, what, four consecutive years Georgia
- 46:45Speaker 2: hasn't won a college football playoff game?
- 46:47Speaker 1: Bold prediction Friday here on Sporting State. The next round
- 46:51Speaker 1: continuing all four hours today with your bold predictions as
- 46:54Speaker 1: we react to those as we do on this day
- 46:56Speaker 1: every year. Troy says Virginia Tech, hokey, hokey, hi, goes
- 47:01Speaker 1: to the college football playoffs. That would be a heck
- 47:04Speaker 1: of a first year.
- 47:05Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know if the ACC can squeeze
- 47:07Speaker 2: two in. They couldn't last year. They had a representative
- 47:10Speaker 2: that ends up playing for the national championship and doesn't
- 47:12Speaker 2: even play for their conference championship game. I find it
- 47:15Speaker 2: hard to believe ACC would get two in if Virginia
- 47:18Speaker 2: Tech wins the conference in year one.
- 47:20Speaker 1: It's a good place to point out right here, though.
- 47:24Speaker 1: It's one change. We haven't done the 12-team playoff the
- 47:27Speaker 1: same way every year yet. The one big change this
- 47:31Speaker 1: year is conference champion gets an automatic bid Into the playoff,
- 47:36Speaker 1: regardless of where they're ranked. So you could have unbeaten
- 47:40Speaker 1: Miami with a win over Notre Dame, playing in the
- 47:43Speaker 1: national championship game last year, lose the conference championship game
- 47:47Speaker 1: to an 8-4 Virginia Tech team, and Virginia Tech could
- 47:51Speaker 1: still be in the playoffs. Automatic bid.
- 47:54Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 47:54Speaker 1: For the conference champions out of the Power Four leagues.
- 47:57Speaker 1: So that would have impacted the ACC last year. Like
- 47:59Speaker 1: Duke would have been in last year.
- 48:00Speaker 2: I guess that's the reason they've done this.
- 48:03Speaker 4: That would have killed James Madison. Duke would have been in,
- 48:06Speaker 4: James Madison would have been out.
- 48:07Speaker 1: Yeah, probably, yes.
- 48:10Speaker 4: I mean, I don't think they would have kicked out
- 48:11Speaker 4: in Alabama or Miami. No, more likely it would have
- 48:14Speaker 4: been Miami or Notre Dame. It probably would have been
- 48:16Speaker 4: Duke in, Notre Dame in.
- 48:18Speaker 1: Probably is what would have happened.
- 48:21Speaker 4: Indiana goes back to back. Get ready for some of that, boys.
- 48:23Speaker 4: We're going to get a few of those coming up
- 48:25Speaker 4: in the bold predictions here. I've already looked ahead. Indiana
- 48:27Speaker 4: goes back to back. I'll give that bold. I mean,
- 48:29Speaker 4: they've never done anything in their whole life.
- 48:32Speaker 2: They're going to be really good again.
- 48:33Speaker 1: They're going to go back to back.
- 48:34Speaker 2: I think people are starting to realize that. But to
- 48:36Speaker 2: go back to back.
- 48:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I can't think of the last Big Ten team
- 48:39Speaker 1: ever to go back to back. As national champions. Georgia
- 48:44Speaker 1: and Alabama are the last two to do it.
- 48:46Speaker 4: Didn't Ohio State do it back in the 70s?
- 48:48Speaker 1: Am I wrong about that? I don't know. They went
- 48:51Speaker 1: back-to-back Heisman Trophies. Archie Griffin. Archie Griffin. I don't know.
- 48:56Speaker 1: Maybe I'm wrong. I don't know if the Big Ten's
- 48:57Speaker 1: ever gone back-to-back national champions.
- 48:59Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know if you bring up Georgia and Alabama,
- 49:01Speaker 2: but that was before this new era of college football
- 49:04Speaker 2: and NIL and transfer portal, and I just don't think
- 49:06Speaker 2: you'll see it back-to-back.
- 49:08Speaker 4: And his third bold prediction for Troy is Florida makes
- 49:10Speaker 4: the playoffs. Those are fairly bold predictions. Virginia Tech and
- 49:13Speaker 4: Florida in the playoffs and Indiana going back to back.
- 49:16Speaker 1: By the way, all three are possible. There's not, you know,
- 49:19Speaker 1: there's no. craziness in there. It's just bold. Dustin. Oh, Dustin.
- 49:24Speaker 1: What's he doing? Oh, Dustin. Dustin, what are you doing
- 49:26Speaker 1: with your life? Dustin has Auburn with eight wins. You know,
- 49:30Speaker 1: I was talking to an Auburn fan at the party
- 49:32Speaker 1: last night. I said, what's a good season for you?
- 49:36Speaker 1: And he said, eight and four.
- 49:37Speaker 2: I mean, that's, It's a realistic fan. I like the
- 49:40Speaker 2: realism in a fan. No, I think seven or eight
- 49:44Speaker 2: is probably the number. That's not too bold, though.
- 49:46Speaker 4: Winning regular season for Auburn. Hadn't had one in quite
- 49:49Speaker 4: a while. That'd be a good one. Bama wins the SEC.
- 49:52Speaker 4: So he's got Auburn with eight wins and across state lines.
- 49:54Speaker 4: Alabama or across the state. Alabama winning the SEC.
- 49:58Speaker 1: Your mouth's in God's ears. I know.
- 50:01Speaker 4: And pick number three, Mike Norvell fired midseason. I honestly
- 50:05Speaker 4: don't know how bold that is.
- 50:08Speaker 2: Haven't you already kind of made that decision if you're
- 50:10Speaker 2: florida state like they they have to have the discussion
- 50:13Speaker 2: okay um if we fire him do we fire him
- 50:17Speaker 2: in season is there anything that would get him fired
- 50:20Speaker 2: in season like that conversation's already been had like you.
- 50:24Speaker 1: Know the number is what you're saying i.
- 50:26Speaker 2: Don't know what it would take to get him fired
- 50:28Speaker 2: in the season i think you guys agree there's not
- 50:30Speaker 2: a lot that really you can Benefit by firing somebody
- 50:34Speaker 2: in season? I would agree.
- 50:36Speaker 1: I mean, a lot of people says it gets you,
- 50:37Speaker 1: you know, on the front end of the coaching carousel,
- 50:39Speaker 1: but I don't really.
- 50:40Speaker 2: Think that matters.
- 50:40Speaker 4: But I think Florida State's already on the front end, right? Yeah,
- 50:42Speaker 4: I mean, I think everybody knows that job's coming open probably.
- 50:46Speaker 4: Daniel is next. Daniel says a hurricane will change the
- 50:53Speaker 4: college football schedule. It's more of a weather prediction than
- 50:56Speaker 4: a college football prediction. It's been a minute, hasn't it,
- 50:59Speaker 4: since we've had a hurricane-delayed game?
- 51:02Speaker 2: Yeah, normally we hear about it now like, hey, man,
- 51:04Speaker 2: next weekend is week one and we're looking forward to
- 51:07Speaker 2: these matchups. But we got some bed– Hurricane Dolly's rolling in.
- 51:12Speaker 1: I know. There is a disturbance that's about to be
- 51:13Speaker 1: named Dolly in the Atlantic. I don't know if it
- 51:15Speaker 1: will be here by week one or what. But Gus
- 51:19Speaker 1: Malzahn was coaching at UCF the last one we had.
- 51:22Speaker 1: So it hasn't been that long. We had some delays
- 51:24Speaker 1: or postponements that weekend. I think the tropics have been
- 51:26Speaker 1: quite mild of late, Jim. But we are in an El.
- 51:29Speaker 4: Nino season this year, so that could heat the tropics up.
- 51:32Speaker 4: I don't know if that's how that works.
- 51:33Speaker 1: Do we have to move a Clemson game up to
- 51:35Speaker 1: starting earlier in the day one time? That was supposed
- 51:39Speaker 1: to be a primetime game. It seems like it's been
- 51:41Speaker 1: pretty recent. What's the other two for Daniel? We have
- 51:44Speaker 1: got Texas Tech misses the playoffs. So he's got a
- 51:47Speaker 1: hurricane changing the schedule and Texas Tech missing the playoffs.
- 51:51Speaker 1: And his third, a championship, he puts in quotes, a
- 51:54Speaker 1: championship coach retires.
- 51:59Speaker 2: Is that Kirby?
- 52:00Speaker 1: He's got it in quotes. So it could be a
- 52:02Speaker 1: conference championship, could be a national championship.
- 52:04Speaker 2: I mean, we don't have many championship coaches out there.
- 52:06Speaker 2: You got Sig, you got Ryan Day, you got Kirby,
- 52:08Speaker 2: you got Dabo.
- 52:09Speaker 1: Dabo, he could be drafting with me. Got two here
- 52:14Speaker 1: before we take our next break. Ryan, longtime listener, his
- 52:19Speaker 1: bowl predictions, NC State wins the ACC.
- 52:23Speaker 2: They've got the schedule to do it. Again, outside of
- 52:25Speaker 2: this game, they might be favored in the next 11 games.
- 52:28Speaker 1: How big a dog are they tomorrow? They're only four.
- 52:30Speaker 2: Numbers moved a little bit, probably based on those 18 players.
- 52:33Speaker 1: Yeah, we need to ask Furman about that coming up.
- 52:35Speaker 1: First two-team Dunaway Parlay of the Year, NC State plus
- 52:38Speaker 1: the points, North Carolina plus the points. Go with the
- 52:41Speaker 1: show meet. Now, what's North Carolina? What state is it?
- 52:42Speaker 1: North Carolina is the Tar Heel State. Are they really?
- 52:45Speaker 1: That's not their official name. I thought it was. I
- 52:47Speaker 1: think it is. Said like a not Duke or NC
- 52:50Speaker 1: State person.
- 52:52Speaker 2: It might be the Tar Heel State.
- 52:54Speaker 1: It is the Tar Heel State. Thank you. You think
- 52:56Speaker 1: I'd just make this stuff up over here? That's their state?
- 52:58Speaker 8: Yes.
- 52:58Speaker 2: Yeah, you do sometimes.
- 53:00Speaker 1: Like the Show Me State in Missouri. That's right. In
- 53:02Speaker 1: North Carolina, there's a Tar Heel State. Yes.
- 53:04Speaker 9: That's what I mean.
- 53:05Speaker 1: How the hell you think they came up with that nickname?
- 53:07Speaker 1: It's the flagship university. It's on like all the license plates.
- 53:10Speaker 9: It's like Tennessee's the volunteer state.
- 53:12Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 53:12Speaker 1: So if I'm a Duke fan or grad or an
- 53:15Speaker 1: NC State fan, I'm living in the Tar Heel State?
- 53:17Speaker 9: Yeah, you're a Vandy fan. You're living in the volunteer state.
- 53:20Speaker 2: I mean, Auburn, they're technically living in an Alabama state.
- 53:24Speaker 1: The Crimson Tide State.
- 53:25Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 53:26Speaker 9: What's the heart of Dixie?
- 53:28Speaker 2: I heard somebody last night say Roll Tide when they
- 53:30Speaker 2: were leaving.
- 53:30Speaker 1: We're the Yellow Hammers.
- 53:31Speaker 2: I really heard that last night.
- 53:32Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, that too. Oh, I did hear somebody say
- 53:34Speaker 1: Roll Tide when they were leaving. Well, how else do
- 53:35Speaker 1: I say bye to you guys? Houston wins the Big 12,
- 53:39Speaker 1: according to Ryan.
- 53:40Speaker 2: That's a bold pick. Willie Fritz, you're talking about getting
- 53:43Speaker 2: a lot of love if he was able to pull
- 53:45Speaker 2: that off.
- 53:46Speaker 1: And Ryan says Auburn beats Alabama in a thriller this year.
- 53:49Speaker 1: And then he writes, also Jimmy D, it's Casey Kasem,
- 53:52Speaker 1: also Jimmy D, My mom, who's listened to you guys
- 53:55Speaker 1: since the radio days and now every day on YouTube
- 53:58Speaker 1: and the TNR channel, would love to give her three
- 54:01Speaker 1: bold predictions if you'd allow me to pass it along
- 54:03Speaker 1: to her. Of course. Her entry name is Mama Stews.
- 54:06Speaker 1: Mama Stews. What's Mama Stews say? She says, Clemson upsets LSU.
- 54:11Speaker 2: Love to see it.
- 54:12Speaker 1: The Indiana Hoosiers do not make the playoffs. Everybody's pulling
- 54:16Speaker 1: against them this year. And Keelan Russell is a Heisman finalist,
- 54:19Speaker 1: and he says that's her homer pick. I'm an Auburn fan,
- 54:22Speaker 1: and she's an Alabama fan. Oh, mama stews. She lost one.
- 54:25Speaker 2: By the way, all these three bold predictions, you can
- 54:29Speaker 2: tell what fan base they're for.
- 54:30Speaker 1: Yeah, generally, yes. Are you saying the Georgia guy who
- 54:34Speaker 1: had Georgia Tech winning the ACC in Georgia 8-4? Yeah,
- 54:37Speaker 1: he might be a rambler. He might be a hell
- 54:39Speaker 1: of an engineer. That's our one. A lot more bold
- 54:41Speaker 1: predictions after we talk to Todd Furman coming up on
- 54:44Speaker 1: the other side. This is the next round presented by
- 54:46Speaker 1: Hard Rock Bets on Sporting State.
