Transcript
- 0:00I mean I posted 87 tik toks before 1 blew up.
- 0:02Damn. 87 tik toks through the same like 12 second audio.
- 0:06So this is a sign out there, like if you believe in
- 0:08something, that's all you need. One of the subject matters of
- 0:11this album? Like an actor.
- 0:12What? Do you define actor as?
- 0:14I guess it's somebody who calls who identifies themselves as an
- 0:17actor. Sure.
- 0:18Shady. Hello real Lulu's and welcome
- 0:37back to Delulu. Today we are joined by a
- 0:40supernova pop star and a true Tay daughter.
- 0:42Shout out to my Swifty Lulu's The sparkly always sparkly Lily
- 0:47Kincaid and I'm so fucking excited to join you in the LKCU,
- 0:52the Lily Kincaid cinematic Universe and it is very
- 0:55cinematic. It is very cinematic.
- 0:57I'm so happy to be here. Hello to all of y'all and
- 1:00welcome into the Kinkadian family.
- 1:02You are officially a Kinkadian now.
- 1:04Fun fact, I'm actually an OG Kinkadian and an OG Kincaidian
- 1:08because I've been a big fan of Lily way before her debut album
- 1:12Cinematic had even dropped, which it is dropping tonight.
- 1:15And by the time you guys are listening to this show, it's
- 1:17already out. So make sure you're streaming it
- 1:20right after this. But you're going to hear all the
- 1:22lore, everything behind the intentions and the songs and the
- 1:25music and this entire project. I'm so excited to get into it
- 1:27with you, especially because I'm such a big fucking fan and
- 1:30obviously I love all your music and I love you.
- 1:33We've known each other for a really long time, guys, so like.
- 1:35It's super exciting. Met when I was releasing the
- 1:39release night of one of my other favorite songs ever, real go
- 1:42stream real, But it was just you know, it's just it's just crazy
- 1:46how time does that. But it's so inspiring to get to
- 1:48see you grow and, you know, use your gifts, like everyone has
- 1:52gifts. And, you know, it takes a lot of
- 1:53work. But if you keep working, you
- 1:56know, eventually those dreams will happen.
- 1:57And I feel like we're getting to grow and achieve our dreams
- 2:00together, side by side, which is really sweet.
- 2:02No, especially like watching you release Real, which Real is
- 2:04literally I showed you when I ran into you at Grant's party.
- 2:07It's on my favorite songs of all time playlist as as well as four
- 2:10O 5, of course, but it is one of my favorite songs of all time.
- 2:13And also that entire project, the EP that you put out with it,
- 2:16Ellie doesn't miss me. Love, love, love, love.
- 2:17And then watching you working on your debut album and it's
- 2:21finally coming out because we met in 2021 and this album is
- 2:24coming out now. And now we are here and I feel
- 2:28like we've tried to hang out so much.
- 2:29And like, I don't think we actually even started really
- 2:31hanging out until like. Two months ago, I know.
- 2:33Until recently, yes. But even.
- 2:35Though we're kind of bad at it too.
- 2:36Yeah, but everything happens at the right time, you know,
- 2:38Everything happens at the right time.
- 2:39You just have to trust. We're trusting it.
- 2:42So Lily, we want to know everything about you.
- 2:44We're going to get into the Lily lore, and it's a big part of
- 2:46your story and where we are now. So I already know that you split
- 2:49your time between LA and Nashville, but where were you
- 2:52originally from? I'm originally from Kansas City.
- 2:55Like Dorothy, yes, like Dorothy, Wizard of Oz.
- 2:58But you know, I always say, like I had a normal childhood, you
- 3:01know, suburbs, riding my bike. I was always into music, so I
- 3:05was always playing guitar, piano.
- 3:07I would do community theater. I was basically doing everything
- 3:10I could. I knew eventually I was going to
- 3:12have to go to California to pursue my dreams.
- 3:15But growing up, I would say it was really influential because I
- 3:18had a lot of time to, like, be by myself.
- 3:20I played in nature. I was reading books every day.
- 3:23I was able to almost like, shape my mind.
- 3:25Now I see it because I was always, you know, inventing
- 3:28stories and having invisible friends as a kid.
- 3:31You know, there was no social media yet.
- 3:33And like, looking back at it, having that childhood and being
- 3:36able to, you know, run in the woods and hang out with friends
- 3:38and, you know, go on the swing set, it allowed me to, like,
- 3:42have a very imaginative inner world, which then correlates to
- 3:46my songwriting. I was literally going to say
- 3:48that reflects in your music because your lyrics are so
- 3:50visual and they're very diary esque, which is what I fucking
- 3:53love about them. I love music where it's like I
- 3:56feel like I'm reading into someone's journal and I feel
- 3:58like that's what your lyrics are.
- 3:59And you know what's interesting about you?
- 4:00I was going to save this for later in the show, but I'm going
- 4:02to say it right now. But basically, you are so bright
- 4:05and bubbly and you're so like lovely and sweet and you have
- 4:08such high energy, but a lot of your music is so sad and I can't
- 4:11even imagine you being sad. I can't, I imagine you not
- 4:14smiling and being bright and like not feeling happy, which is
- 4:17like, obviously you're allowed to feel sad, but I'm just like,
- 4:19I can't even picture that in you.
- 4:21I feel like I've only known you as someone who's like, excited
- 4:23about life, you know? I always say, you know, it's the
- 4:26depths of someone's happiness or I guess like the height of
- 4:28someone's happiness is parallel to the depths of their sadness.
- 4:31And so, you know, I feel like it was my assignment, it was my
- 4:35mission to talk about these feelings and to turn them into
- 4:38art so people can relate to them.
- 4:40Because think about, it's like, you know, sometimes it's really
- 4:42hard to be vulnerable. It's really hard to share how
- 4:44you feel, you know, good things and bad things.
- 4:46And if we keep our feelings to ourselves, like that's when
- 4:50people get very isolated and lonely and depressed.
- 4:52And, you know, we're so much more alike than we are
- 4:54different. And so I feel like that's my
- 4:56ultimate purpose with my songwriting is like to make
- 4:59songs and stories out of the feelings that are either like
- 5:01uncomfortable or like you're shameful, embarrassed about, you
- 5:04don't want to talk about or the feelings that are hard to put
- 5:05into words. And God has just given me this
- 5:08gift of, you know. Making music and.
- 5:10Then we can cry together because crying is very healing like.
- 5:13I love a good cry. Yeah, I'm not really a big crier
- 5:16and I wish I was because I feel like I would probably release a
- 5:18lot of my pent up emotions. One day feeling, one day will
- 5:21happen. Oh my God, I've been crying a
- 5:23lot recently. That's good.
- 5:24That's good. Crying is very healing.
- 5:26It actually resets the nervous system.
- 5:28OK, because I'd be needing that right now.
- 5:29But I love what you said about like why you write and then
- 5:32tension behind it, because that's actually how I feel about
- 5:34a lot of your music. And specifically we were talking
- 5:36about about it right before the show and I want to get really
- 5:38deep into to it, but your song Nothing Like Me has been like
- 5:42every lyric because I've been, I was going on my Instagram, I
- 5:45want to post like little lyrics from it.
- 5:46And I'm like, I can't even fucking choose because it's like
- 5:48every verse and the chorus, just all of it good.
- 5:52And they all like couplet so well.
- 5:53But like that song really hits for me and we're going to
- 5:55definitely talk about it. But.
- 5:57So when did you end up moving to LA?
- 5:59I moved to California when I was 14, right before I was going
- 6:03into high school. And you're 24 now?
- 6:05Yes. OK, so a Docky to go.
- 6:06Which is like crazy. How have I been here for 10
- 6:08years? Time is flying.
- 6:10But you know, when I moved here, I had to like make the choice to
- 6:14like sacrifice going to a normal high school.
- 6:15Like I didn't, I didn't have a normal high school experience.
- 6:18I was doing online school, online college, you know, and
- 6:21Independent School. And it was, you know, yes, there
- 6:24are some moments where I'm like, oh, I never got to have like,
- 6:26you know, a prom or like normal high school experiences.
- 6:28But at the same time, I'm so grateful because I got to really
- 6:31pursue my craft. And 10 years later, it all paid
- 6:33off because you have to go through those 10,000 hours.
- 6:36I had to write so many bad songs before I ever started really
- 6:39finding my voice. I'm grateful that I made the
- 6:42sacrifices when I was younger to be where I am.
- 6:44Now, I mean, to be honest, like that's how I feel too.
- 6:46Like I'd rather sacrifice now versus like later in my life
- 6:49regret not doing it or putting the time and work in because I
- 6:52feel like a lot of people don't even realize.
- 6:53Like it is so much especially for you.
- 6:55You are a DIY queen. You have glitter glue and a
- 6:59dream and you'd be making it happen for yourself.
- 7:01But it's a lot. It really is a lot.
- 7:04It's super overwhelming and especially being an indie artist
- 7:06right now too. Yes.
- 7:07And you're doing such a great job.
- 7:08Thank you because it looks really good and the world
- 7:10building that you do is so incredible.
- 7:11Like I'm in Lily Kincaid's world when I listen to your music,
- 7:15when I see your visuals, and when you do your videos, when
- 7:17you're doing the songwriting process.
- 7:18I watch all of them. I'm obsessed with them.
- 7:20I love seeing how it grows, how it changes.
- 7:22And some of these songs you've worked on for like years, like
- 7:24it was starting like 2021 and then you'll finish in like
- 7:272023-2024. But that's one of the things I
- 7:29love, I think. I think for me, you know, who I
- 7:32am as an artist correlates to who I am as a person.
- 7:35And you know, as you grow up, you go through things, you get
- 7:37to know yourself better. And I feel like, you know, the
- 7:42more you know yourself, at least for me, the more authentic my
- 7:44music becomes because you know, you're and of course we're
- 7:47growing and changing. I'm growing and changing.
- 7:49But I always say like, I want my music to reflect, to reflect me.
- 7:53Like I do say it is a diary. It is my feelings, it is my
- 7:55thoughts. But I think that, you know, I
- 7:58feel very lucky that I've had the time to know myself.
- 8:00And that's like my number one piece of advice.
- 8:02I'm like, spend time alone, spend time journaling, like
- 8:04watch movies, develop your own taste because that has been the
- 8:07biggest asset and help to me is like knowing what I like and
- 8:10don't like in life. But then also in my music, I'm
- 8:13able to be like, oh, I really love that sound.
- 8:14Let's put that in a song or like, oh, I really love this
- 8:17visual. I want to shoot something like
- 8:18that again, which I think, you know, I'm glad that it it
- 8:21translates. It really does.
- 8:22And honestly, like you are so vulnerable.
- 8:25Like your music's so hard on your sleeve.
- 8:26And like, I think a lot of artists these days love being
- 8:29like mysterious and like, like, oh, I don't know what's coming
- 8:32next. But I really love that you just
- 8:33bear it all. Like, especially like with
- 8:35everything you do with the post that you do, your social media,
- 8:37how much you connect with your, but then also on your website
- 8:40with your blogs that you do and the literal journal entry scans,
- 8:44which I am such a nosy motherfucker.
- 8:45I love reading that shit. Let me know everything you're
- 8:48feeling. And you do.
- 8:49Yeah. Yeah.
- 8:50I feel like no secrets with Lily Kincaid.
- 8:52I feel like that's how you're presenting.
- 8:53Yourself because it's like you know and it's like yeah, I do
- 8:56have secrets but it's like this part of my life the.
- 8:59Name is secret right now. But it's feel like I feel like
- 9:01it's a lot of and I feel like emotionally, you know, that's
- 9:04something that was hard for me. And so my outlet is music.
- 9:06And so that's how I knew that like I was put on this earth.
- 9:09This is one of my assignments I have to do because, you know, it
- 9:12is uncomfortable. I was always the person that was
- 9:13like, I need to keep it together.
- 9:15I need to be there for all my friends.
- 9:16I have to be there supporting other people that I could never
- 9:19like. I my life is so amazing.
- 9:20I'm so fortunate. I'm so lucky to get to, you
- 9:22know, do what I love that I shouldn't be sad.
- 9:24And for a long time I like wouldn't let myself be sad.
- 9:26So you felt guilty about? Yeah, I felt guilty because I'm
- 9:28like, you know what? Like I have it so well, like
- 9:29I've always been able to, you know, like, appreciate and be
- 9:33grateful, like. Just in a little.
- 9:35Yeah, but music for me was like almost like my safety, my safety
- 9:38outlet of like being able to release things and then not
- 9:41having anyone judge me for them. And I don't know people.
- 9:44Are embracing it really well, too well.
- 9:46What were some inspirations for you like musically growing up?
- 9:49I know we're Swifty's, we're both massive Taylor Swift fans,
- 9:52shout Tay Tay. I'm so excited.
- 9:55I you know what? I feel so lucky.
- 9:57We had such great music inspirations.
- 9:59Growing up, the 20. 10s like it was so good we had Disney
- 10:01Channel Hannah Montana. That was my first concert was
- 10:03the Hannah Montana Best of Both Worlds tour which.
- 10:07Was Selena Gomez. Oh, that Selena Gomez in the
- 10:09scene. Yes, so good.
- 10:10Like, so good. But I listened to a lot of that
- 10:13Taylor Swift. Obviously, I started listening
- 10:14to Lana Del Rey because I also grew up dancing.
- 10:17And I remember the first time I heard a Lana Del Rey song, I
- 10:20think I was in lyric lyrical class or contemporary class.
- 10:24And we were doing a dance to Diet Mountain Dew.
- 10:25And I went home and purchased the song on iTunes.
- 10:28And my dad, like, sent me a picture of the, like a
- 10:30screenshot of the iTunes receipt recently actually.
- 10:31And I just thought that was so funny because I, I don't know,
- 10:34like, I just feel so lucky to grow up with.
- 10:37Yeah, such good inspiration. And I was also a big reader to
- 10:39growing up, like listen to a lot of music.
- 10:41But I also really loved like, reading every single fiction
- 10:44book I could find. Every, you know, everything was
- 10:47so good back then. We had like all the dystopian
- 10:48series. It was like the peak of like
- 10:50Hunger Games, Divergent. There's just so much like.
- 10:52You're taking me back, girl. Yeah, it was just so exciting.
- 10:54It felt like everything was so like new.
- 10:56Yeah, I mean, honestly, those influences are really strong on
- 10:59you because like Lana Del Rey and like Taylor Swift, like
- 11:01really into lyricism and also storytelling, and also you being
- 11:04a big reader because your music is so storytelling.
- 11:06Very ingrained in storytelling and it shows.
- 11:09And I think that's what people resonate with with you too.
- 11:12So you know how you had your listen to this in your car?
- 11:15That was like your original username on TikTok a couple
- 11:17years ago. So a lot of the music I feel
- 11:19like that you have like when I first discovered you, I was only
- 11:22listening to you in the car when it was like real and like sweet
- 11:24and low and it was like at my funeral.
- 11:26Oh wait, these are deep cuts, by the way.
- 11:28These are old songs. Wait it was it was one of those
- 11:31songs like 5 years anniversary recently I.
- 11:33Think yes, sweet and low. The first thing I put out, Yes.
- 11:36Isn't that crazy? Yeah, and now debut album five
- 11:39years later. And that's just wild.
- 11:41Like, it just, it's like time is going to, I realize this time is
- 11:44going to go by anyways. So you have nothing to lose by
- 11:47trying something and putting yourself out there.
- 11:48Just do it. And for years I'd be like, oh,
- 11:50well, I don't have, I don't have good enough songs to release
- 11:52now. I don't have this.
- 11:53I don't have a whole team. I don't have this.
- 11:54And at a certain point, you just got to be like, you know what?
- 11:56No, I'm going to use everything I have and make make the best
- 11:59situation. Yeah.
- 12:00Like do the most that you can with whatever you have.
- 12:02Yeah. Just do it.
- 12:03I absolutely agree with that. And actually, I'm happy that you
- 12:05mentioned that because like part of that era of music that you're
- 12:08releasing at the time was real, which is honestly, I want to say
- 12:13probably one of your, I want to say it's your magnum opus, but
- 12:15obviously I love 405. There's like so many, but I know
- 12:18I'm like at every single concert I'm going to have to sing that
- 12:20song and I love that. Like honestly, it's a perfect
- 12:22song. No real the Lily Kincaid song
- 12:24and it actually is about a hit 10 million streams.
- 12:27Crazy. How insane is that?
- 12:29I remember when you fucking released it.
- 12:31I was like, this is a hit. This is it.
- 12:32You actually, you convinced me. And I love how much you believe
- 12:35in yourself because it convinces other people to believe in you
- 12:38too, because you release Reel and remember you made so many
- 12:40TikTok to me, like this is a song that's going to put me on
- 12:42the map. This is a song that's going to
- 12:43be known as an artist. This is a song that's going to
- 12:44have people like actually start paying attention.
- 12:46And it is. I mean I posted 87 tik toks
- 12:49before 1 blew up. Damn. 87 tik toks through the
- 12:52same like 12 second audio. So this is a sign up there.
- 12:55Like if you believe in something, that's all you need.
- 12:57You know, people believe in your belief because music is
- 13:00subjective. Taste is subjective.
- 13:01So like, as long as you create stuff that you like that you
- 13:04want to put out that you are passionate about, that is how
- 13:07you know other people are going to see that.
- 13:08Like I always say, like I make music that I want to listen to,
- 13:11so why would I not keep talking about it?
- 13:13And until every single ear has heard of Lily Kincaid's music,
- 13:17you know, it's new to them. Even if something is five years
- 13:19old. You got to promote it and you
- 13:20got to promote yourself. Exactly.
- 13:22There's a lot of shame. I feel like people feel like
- 13:23it's cringy to promote themselves.
- 13:25I print what the fuck out of Tulu, which is the show.
- 13:27I just feel like I'm proud of it and I feel like I should be
- 13:29promoted. And who else is going to promote
- 13:31it? If you don't believe in
- 13:31yourself, how are other people going to believe?
- 13:33In you exactly you. Know what I mean?
- 13:34Also, with the algorithm and everything, it's like not
- 13:36everyone's going to see it anyway.
- 13:37Exactly. And also too, it's like at the
- 13:40end of the day, you know, it is great.
- 13:42Like I feel like in our day and age, you know, you can't get
- 13:45overwhelmed with all of the numbers and algorithms and
- 13:47everything's changing. So I have to like consistently
- 13:49remind myself, you know what? At the end of the day, if this
- 13:51reaches one person, if one person hears this song and it
- 13:54helps them or makes them feel less alone or changes them or
- 13:56gives them comfort in a moment, then like I did my job.
- 13:59It's like if one person listens to this podcast and suddenly has
- 14:01like the inspiration to go after their dreams or suddenly feels
- 14:04like, Oh my gosh, I didn't know that that person felt the same
- 14:06way. Like that is the purpose of what
- 14:08we're doing. I love that so much because
- 14:10honestly, that was my intention when it began.
- 14:12Social media in general and the content I make was like, I was
- 14:14like, I just want to connect. And like I always said, like if
- 14:16it changes one person's life and they feel better, they feel
- 14:19different, they feel seen, they feel heard, then it's worthwhile
- 14:22to keep doing this because it's like a hard industry and being a
- 14:25content creator. Because then honestly, you can't
- 14:26just be an artist and you wear so many hats by the way, you do
- 14:29so many things outside of being artist, but you also have to be
- 14:32a content creator. Like it's a part of what you do
- 14:33and you're really good at. You have so many clips, you're
- 14:36good at documenting your life. I wish I could do what you do.
- 14:39You have so much B roll too. So I'm like, I don't know.
- 14:42I think I have like 168,000 photos or something on my phone,
- 14:46which is like really overwhelming.
- 14:48You would think it'd be amazing, but I don't know.
- 14:50I'm always one. I was always the person taking
- 14:53photos even like, you know, years ago I would always when it
- 14:56was like not cool. Now it's like cool.
- 14:57Like you see people walking around doing like vlogging or
- 15:00taking selfies. Remember like years ago when it
- 15:01was like, Oh my God, why are you taking a selfie?
- 15:03Like no, I was always like, no, I want to capture memories.
- 15:05Like I make hard copy scrapbooks as.
- 15:08Every. Year scrapbookers, Yes, because
- 15:09I'm like my photos going to the cloud.
- 15:11But what if the cloud goes away like?
- 15:12Totally. We I'm so excited for the Dulu
- 15:14page in your scrapbook this year.
- 15:15We will have one, yes, and I will send you a picture.
- 15:17OK. And then we're gonna like think
- 15:18back to this. We can like post a clip of right
- 15:20now and then show the show the scrapbook page.
- 15:22And we're honestly having a really good day.
- 15:23I'm having so much fun of you because we did a bunch of things
- 15:25right before shooting this and we're having so much fun.
- 15:27We're gonna do more things after this too, and we're gonna plan
- 15:30stuff. But I'm having a great time with
- 15:32you. This is so much fun.
- 15:33Me too. Well, I want to talk about reel
- 15:35love, love, love, love, love. Reel type.
- 15:37Take us back to writing that song.
- 15:39You knew it was special, so and what was real?
- 15:42How did that come about? I love that song.
- 15:44So my reel is one of the songs on my second.
- 15:47EPLA doesn't miss me and I had just written the title track.
- 15:51LA doesn't Miss Me on my 19th birthday, February 18th.
- 15:53I read that journal entry, by the way.
- 15:56And then I I went back to Nashville and Reel was like the
- 15:58first songwriting session I had with two amazing writers, Casey
- 16:02Brown and Sam Gray. And we were just talking about
- 16:04this. I'd played them.
- 16:05LA doesn't miss me. I was like, why am I feeling
- 16:06this way? Like it feels like, like I, I
- 16:10left LA for a week and then everything changed.
- 16:12Like this is so crazy. I was talking about, you know,
- 16:14boy drama at the time, and I just kept saying, like, it felt
- 16:18so weird because like, I just felt like it wasn't real.
- 16:21And I just remember we were like, Oh my gosh, that's a great
- 16:23song. And we just started writing.
- 16:25And we ended up writing I think the whole song that day and then
- 16:28making like, a demo a couple days later.
- 16:29Like, I love taking my time with songs.
- 16:31I love, you know, sitting on it, like listening to it in the car,
- 16:34like listening to it while I go on a walk.
- 16:36And not rushing anything. Yeah, because I feel like it's
- 16:37very, you know, it's like similar to love.
- 16:39It's like when you know, you know, in terms of like when
- 16:42you're writing a song or anything creative, like there's
- 16:44no right or wrong, which is kind of the overwhelming part.
- 16:47But I just knew like this song was really special.
- 16:50And so like, that's why I didn't put it on my first EP because it
- 16:52wasn't the vibe. I was like, no, this is a whole
- 16:54separate project. But the sound of it too ended up
- 16:57just turning out amazing. And my amazing producer Kyle
- 17:00Jefferson, who did that, like the vibes of it are just
- 17:03timeless, timeless classic. Wait is this the same Kyle that
- 17:05did most of cinematic? Yes, shout out Kyle, love your
- 17:08work. Kyle, we love you.
- 17:09Love your work. Actually.
- 17:11That's so incredible. And you called it 'cause you
- 17:13knew this song was special, too. Yeah.
- 17:15And that song is like, the thing about it is like, I feel like if
- 17:18we get into the territory of like, people being cast lighters
- 17:21or whatever, because like, you know, you say, like you can say
- 17:24you don't feel the way. Yeah, 100 pocket.
- 17:28And, you know, it's exciting. Like this is like an this is an
- 17:30exclusive. That's a little exclusive.
- 17:31Love it go. OK, so it's going to be 5 years
- 17:33old this in 2026, right? And so I love that song so much.
- 17:38And I've been like writing so many verses.
- 17:39So I'm trying, I'm working on writing like a extended version.
- 17:42I don't know if it'll be exactly 10 minutes, but something really
- 17:44fun and like, yeah. Oh my God, we're.
- 17:47Sending it. OK, because I asked you when I
- 17:50saw you a couple weeks ago, because Lily just performed at
- 17:52the Hotel Cafe Mina and I went and I was like why is real not
- 17:56on cinematic? And you were like it was a
- 17:59different. Yeah, different era, but it's
- 18:01still timeless. You teased something with it.
- 18:03You're like. But, you know, we got something
- 18:05for the real stands, so yeah. Because it is like, because I
- 18:08believe that song is so timeless.
- 18:09And I kept writing verses to it. Like, I just kept writing
- 18:12because I was like, oh, my gosh, this situation happened again.
- 18:15Yeah. Or like it happened with another
- 18:16person. Like, even as an artist, it's
- 18:18like you can relate multiple songs to different people in
- 18:21your life, you know, as you grow up and as you, you know, go
- 18:23through things. But yeah, I'm excited for that.
- 18:26I just can't believe it's going to be fun.
- 18:27Five years old, I remember. When you literally released it,
- 18:30we went live together. That was our first hangout.
- 18:32On TikTok I was literally living at my parents house in my
- 18:35childhood bedroom. Isn't that crazy?
- 18:38That's crazy. Life is so different now too.
- 18:40Cuz you have that screenshot of us.
- 18:42Yes. OK, we're gonna queue it up
- 18:43right here. Okay, so I hate this picture of
- 18:47me, but yeah, no, things are so different now.
- 18:51And also such a fucking baby back then.
- 18:53I feel like you look exactly the same, which is like because you
- 18:56were 19. Yeah, but it's like sometimes I
- 18:58missed that. I'm like, I missed that like,
- 19:01but I've realized that it's like, you know what, you can
- 19:03spend your whole life wishing you were in a different season
- 19:05when you're in a current season and just reminding myself of
- 19:09that, like time is going to go anyways.
- 19:10Like to really try and be as present as possible.
- 19:13And yes, you want to be smart and you want to think ahead and
- 19:15you want to make sure you're doing little steps every single
- 19:18day that you know are working towards your goals.
- 19:20But don't forget, like the whole purpose of life is to like, love
- 19:23others and to use your gifts and to, you know, you know, make,
- 19:27make other people feel good and, and yeah, and use your purpose.
- 19:30You know, one of my favorite things is like, I knew I was
- 19:33meant to be a songwriter and a storyteller because when I write
- 19:36a song, like it's almost, I could be so exhausted at the end
- 19:40of like a writing day if I'm writing for like 10 hours or
- 19:43something. But I like, feel like I've used
- 19:46up everything inside of me. Like I feel like I gave all that
- 19:48I had to give. And there's just something
- 19:50really like special about that. Yeah, and it comes across from
- 19:53your music and I feel like especially with this album.
- 19:56So we are here today because you have released your debut album,
- 20:00Cinematic Crazy. And cinematic, that is the
- 20:03perfect word for it. Even before I heard I was
- 20:04talking to you a couple weeks ago, I was like, cinematic is.
- 20:08Yeah, and no, people are like, how does describe the album?
- 20:10I'm like cinematic, cinematic. It's a perfect title track.
- 20:13It's like I couldn't even, it's crazy.
- 20:15Like I could not even have planned that better.
- 20:17I always say like, I love having a theme.
- 20:19You know, growing up on Taylor and Lana, I'm like, I've
- 20:22studied, I've studied. I love having a theme that way,
- 20:25you know, who knows what album 2 album 3 is going to be like?
- 20:28It gives me like it's you're. Pretty this world and this is
- 20:31the world of cinematic and actually I love this concept so
- 20:34much because the album opens with behind the scenes and then
- 20:37we go into Cinematic and it closes with Mr. Hollywood.
- 20:41There's a very defined through line here with cinematic.
- 20:44So you wrote this album over the course of a couple years too, So
- 20:47some songs was that release that you ran for this album?
- 20:50You 405 405 is actually the very first song that I wrote I'm.
- 20:55Fucking happy you put it on the album isn't.
- 20:57That crazy? Yes that is so crazy.
- 20:59That is one of my favorite songs of all fucking time.
- 21:01I think it is my number one most played song last year.
- 21:04I'm gonna have to check my Spotify.
- 21:05Like when we reconnected at our friend's birthday party, he
- 21:08pulls up his phone and it's like, wait, I was listening to
- 21:10405 on the way here and Lily was still like, playing.
- 21:13Oh my God. So this is I have a crazy
- 21:15manifestation story. All this is actually fucking
- 21:17insane. So Victoria and I were in my car
- 21:19and we were going to Grant's birthday party.
- 21:22And then I was like, I want to play you some music.
- 21:23And I played four O 5 for him and he was he loved it.
- 21:25And then I was like, I love her. I want her on the show.
- 21:28And he was like, when you like ask her to be on the show.
- 21:30And I was like, I think I will. But it's just like there's a lot
- 21:32of decisions that go into it's not, it's not as easy as just
- 21:34like, Oh, I want this person. I'm going to have them on, which
- 21:36I know it sounds like it should be, but there's a lot of
- 21:38decision that goes into and I was like, I really want her on
- 21:40the show because like I know her and I love her and I love her
- 21:42music forever. I love four O 5 And I was
- 21:44playing it. We were like bopping to it.
- 21:46We go to Grant's birthday party. And then I walk up the stairs.
- 21:50And they're the fuck. You were on the roof and I
- 21:51walked up the stairs and I was like.
- 21:52Yeah, I like grabbed Victoria and I was like, shut the fuck
- 21:54up. I was like, that's her.
- 21:55Like I was like Lily, what the fuck?
- 21:58That's like, whoa, yeah, that's. Crazy pulled my phone out like
- 22:01look what we were listening to on the way to this party and it
- 22:04was 405 and I was like and stay here.
- 22:06Look at my other playlist that I was listening to my favorite
- 22:08songs of all time playlist which are my favorite songs of all
- 22:10time. I was like real, a bunch of
- 22:12other songs, 405 and there we go.
- 22:14I was like, that's a sign. Come on my show.
- 22:16And you said yes. Crazy.
- 22:18Though isn't that so crazy? That's insane.
- 22:21No, I manifested that. Yeah, that's so crazy.
- 22:23But you know what happens when you're?
- 22:26It's like things will fall into place and you have to just
- 22:28trust. That's the scary part about life
- 22:30in general. But it should be like that.
- 22:32You shouldn't know how everything's going to go because
- 22:33that's you're not, you know, you're not outside of your
- 22:35comfort zone. You're not growing.
- 22:36You have to be growing. Oh, that's a great reminder for
- 22:39me because I feel like I need to know everything and have control
- 22:41of everything. So I kind of like that you said
- 22:43that because I actually felt a little wave of relief where I'm
- 22:45like, you know what, it's fine. Like we're wing it, whatever,
- 22:47we'll take it day by day. So that's where we are right
- 22:50now. And where we are right now is
- 22:51the album is fucking out. How do we?
- 22:53Feel I feel really excited and nervous and happy and
- 22:58overwhelmed. But also too, I love it because
- 23:00I'm like, you know what, I've lived with these songs.
- 23:02I've listened to these songs so many times, you know, through my
- 23:05Dropbox folder. And I just feel so excited now
- 23:07because it's like I get to share them.
- 23:09And, you know, that's the best part of music is like getting to
- 23:11relate to experiences together, like having people DM me.
- 23:14Oh my gosh, I went through the exact same situation.
- 23:15This is crazy. And then being like me too,
- 23:18like. It just feels so.
- 23:19Good. It just feels so good to, you
- 23:20know, like because at the end of the day, we're more similar.
- 23:24We are different and music is just like a such a beautiful
- 23:27tool and it's a universal language and I don't know, it's
- 23:30just so like healing and I love it.
- 23:32So I was talking to another songwriter the other day.
- 23:34So I have, like, these two artists who are living with me
- 23:36right now. You've met them, Nathan.
- 23:37Yeah. But they keep having sessions in
- 23:40the living room and I keep talking to the the people
- 23:43they're ringing in. And someone mentioned, I don't
- 23:44even remember who, but they were like, they were like talking
- 23:47about the music. And they're like, these lyrics
- 23:48are a little too specific. I think it needs to be a little
- 23:50more like vague and ambiguous for the audience or for the
- 23:53listener. And I was like, I, and I said I
- 23:55chimed in and I was like, I personally resonate deeper with,
- 23:58even if I don't relate, but I want to know like, exactly what
- 24:00this person was going through. I want to know names.
- 24:04I want everything. Yeah, I'm nosy as fuck.
- 24:06I want to be like, what happened?
- 24:08Take me there. And that's the music I feel like
- 24:10I resonate the most with, which is why I feel so drawn to your
- 24:13music because it's so specific. And you know what?
- 24:16You are a big fan of name dropping months in your songs.
- 24:19Yeah, I actually this is like a thing I wanted to do continue
- 24:22this. I wanted like have I don't have
- 24:23all of the months yet, but I want to have a song that has
- 24:25every month tonight. I have like, you know, every
- 24:28single month in a song. In the one song.
- 24:31No, just like in general in my discography.
- 24:32Got it. Okay, well, you already have
- 24:34February covered and got old. You have November covered and
- 24:36let me leave. Let's go.
- 24:38You have June and September in three months and you're still in
- 24:41August? Wait.
- 24:42August in September in August and September?
- 24:45I have not heard that song. So.
- 24:46It's so. Good.
- 24:47OK, well you were name dropping the months and I'm actually
- 24:50curious why three months didn't make it on the album.
- 24:52Three months because I already put that out.
- 24:54So I was like, OK, that's a different era, a different
- 24:56chapter. Those were.
- 24:57Yeah. And so I was like, we need some
- 24:59new ones. Like still like people think
- 25:01because I'm like, OK, I wrote this album from ages 20 to 23.
- 25:05Like, that's a lot. That's a very influential time.
- 25:06Like there are multiple, like, heartbreaks.
- 25:08So it's like the album's about multiple different people and
- 25:10like my experiences with different people.
- 25:11But like, still in August, it's about the same person that I
- 25:14wrote three months about. Yeah, that's the only one on
- 25:17that on on the album. And how many relationships is
- 25:19this album spanning? It's like 3.
- 25:22Three and I, you always tell me this, but you're like they
- 25:24always come back so like, yeah, you're having a little little
- 25:26repeat moments over here. OK, we love that.
- 25:29So your songwriting process. I love the songwriting videos
- 25:32that you do and like literally we, I think we talked about it
- 25:34before the show, but like where you show where the song is
- 25:36conceived and then taking it all the way to like when you
- 25:40finalize it and you put it out, like I love that you're doing
- 25:42that, like taking us behind the curtain and.
- 25:44Showing us because I love it, too.
- 25:46But it's lost art. Yeah.
- 25:47And, you know, like, as a songwriter, like when I was
- 25:49younger, I would scour the Internet.
- 25:50I would be reading like J14 and all these magazines.
- 25:53I loved knowing it because, you know, it's something where, you
- 25:56know, you don't often see it, but I think the creative process
- 25:59is so magical because it's never the same.
- 26:01It's never the same. And there's so much beauty in it
- 26:02because I don't know, like, watching other people's creative
- 26:06process or like when Taylor Swift would do her, you know,
- 26:08little like, deluxe voice memo. And.
- 26:10Yes, yes, like it made me feel so like wow, like it just felt I
- 26:14connected to it so much more because I was like wow, like I
- 26:16can do it. Like it can turn into a real
- 26:18song and I just find it so cool because I'm like, I never know
- 26:21how I'm going to write the next song.
- 26:22Sometimes I'm just sitting down at the piano.
- 26:25Sometimes I like am driving and I get an idea.
- 26:26Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night with an
- 26:28idea. And so I love just documenting
- 26:31it and showing the creation process because I'm usually
- 26:33turning something like, you know, a bad feeling or like
- 26:36feeling alone or a negative experience into something
- 26:38beautiful. And so even document documenting
- 26:40it and making it helps me feel like wow, like I am getting
- 26:44something from this situation and like I'm going to heal and
- 26:46be stronger from it. Right.
- 26:48And I feel like when you're open and vulnerable like that, like
- 26:50that's where you know people are going to connect with you and
- 26:52find you. Yes, I think you've actually
- 26:54said this yourself. It's like you want to be
- 26:56yourself and the right people will find you for.
- 26:58That yes, yeah, vulnerability is a superpower.
- 27:01Absolutely. I used to like, like I was
- 27:02saying earlier, like hide my feelings or feel like, oh, I
- 27:04can't say, like I'm hurt or I'm sad by that.
- 27:07But no, like being vulnerable and expressing your emotions is
- 27:10so powerful because it also encourages others to express how
- 27:13they feel. And you know, like, if you just
- 27:15keep all your feelings inside, like the lyrics of 405 say, you
- 27:18know, it's like you're never. Going to Yeah.
- 27:21You have to be able to express your real.
- 27:22You have to be yourself if you want to find people that like
- 27:24you. If you are being fake and you
- 27:26are not being your authentic self, how do you expect friends
- 27:29to really love you for who they are, for who you are, when
- 27:31they've never seen the real you? Wait, I.
- 27:33Want to talk about 4:05? So I love that song so fucking
- 27:35much. It's literally anthemic.
- 27:38It's big, it's a banger. That chorus hits and the bridge
- 27:42is like the most euphoric thing I've ever experienced in my
- 27:45life. It's like a dopamine hit for me
- 27:47when that bridge hits like. Have you seen The Perks of being
- 27:50a Wallflower? No.
- 27:51Wait, you have to watch that movie?
- 27:53I don't consume anything. We talked about this.
- 27:55Because OK, there's a scene. Some of you all listeners will
- 27:57probably know there's a scene and Perks of Being a Wallflower.
- 27:59Yeah, and it's they're driving on a truck through like
- 28:02underneath a highway. You know, when they have like
- 28:04the lights and they like put their hands on, that's like an
- 28:06iconic. Yes, that.
- 28:07And well, because like 4 or 5 was crazy because I love Lala
- 28:11Land. Lala Land's on my favorite
- 28:13movie. And I also love like The Great
- 28:14Gatsby, like in terms of like vibe.
- 28:16That was one of my favorite movies because I love Young and
- 28:19Beautiful by Lana Del Rey. And I watched the movie so many
- 28:21times because I love the soundtrack, but I wanted to
- 28:23create a song that felt kind of like that vibe that was like
- 28:26very anthemic, like you were saying very much like, you know
- 28:29what, I just want to celebrate life and I just want to feel
- 28:31free and feel very like cinematic, very movie like.
- 28:34And so like that bridge was specifically, you know, I saw
- 28:37that scene in Perks of being a Wallflower where it's like
- 28:40they're out the window, like in the back of the truck, like just
- 28:42like loving it. I love that.
- 28:44I love. Coming of age things and like
- 28:46this is such a coming of age album, by the way, but I love
- 28:49coming of age films and movies like that.
- 28:50So like I'm definitely going to check that out, especially that
- 28:52visual that you should mention. Like I see that for the bridge
- 28:54of four O 5 yes, like. You're going to love it.
- 28:58I mean, this song is everything. And so I'm curious about it
- 29:00because basically you're talking about like, let's say the
- 29:04world's ending, right? It's like you're saying like you
- 29:07don't want to be scared. You're going to confess how you
- 29:08feel. And that's four O 5.
- 29:10Yeah, which is crazy. Yeah, which is crazy.
- 29:13But at the end of the day, it's like, you know what?
- 29:14Why not? Yeah, sometimes you have to
- 29:16like, get that courage. Huge fan of telling people I
- 29:18feel yeah and I always. Tell people how I feel and my
- 29:20thing is like I always tell people how I feel, but like in
- 29:22song like I'll just like send somebody a song really and I'll
- 29:24be like. I've never experienced that
- 29:26someone write me a song and send it to me.
- 29:29I would love to. Because it's like crazy though,
- 29:31but I genuinely sometimes cannot.
- 29:32Like I'll try to talk and I'll be like, I have nothing.
- 29:35I can't, like, I can't say it. I'm like, Oh my gosh, I'm choked
- 29:37up. But I can like write a song.
- 29:39Really. Yeah.
- 29:40Oh my God. Wait, did you send was four or
- 29:41five for someone? No, that was just like, you
- 29:44know, in general, like. Totally.
- 29:46That's what I was thinking because I was like, then the
- 29:48chorus gets really celebratory, you know what I mean?
- 29:50Because I think it starts like the verses are very relationship
- 29:52based. Yes, yes.
- 29:54And then also I love that concept of just like, why the
- 29:56hell am I keeping these feelings aside?
- 29:57Which is so true. And it's like, I'm a huge, huge,
- 30:00huge, huge fan of like always expressing how I feel to people.
- 30:02Like I just think it's a waste of time not to.
- 30:04Yeah, like, and it's like, you know what, If anything, you're
- 30:08expressing your feelings for you.
- 30:10Yeah. Everyone's allowed to feel
- 30:11however they want to feel, but why not?
- 30:13I would much rather be the person that's like, you know,
- 30:15vulnerable and goes out there and expresses my feelings and
- 30:18then gets rejected, then always wonder what if and always will
- 30:21have regrets in the back of my. Mind not trying to know what
- 30:23ifs. I don't want no regrets that's
- 30:24why I tell people how I feel. I just like go for it because at
- 30:26the end of the day, I'd rather like either be rejected or no,
- 30:29then sit there and be like, well, what if I just said this
- 30:33or it's just like. I'd rather be thinking and like,
- 30:35no, we don't want to be caught up in.
- 30:37That no, definitely not, and I'm such an overthinker as in
- 30:39general anyways. But I fucking love 405.
- 30:41And fun fact, you actually began that song on April 5th, which is
- 30:44405. Isn't that crazy?
- 30:46Was that intentional? No, because I looked at my voice
- 30:49memos because that day was like me and my Co writer Matthew
- 30:53Morrissey. We were just kind of vibing
- 30:55around, not like writing anything specific and we came up
- 30:58with this idea. It was only about half formed
- 31:00and then we were like, there's something really good here.
- 31:02Like something like we were just like, you just know, right?
- 31:04You just know, you feel it. And I remember, you know, all
- 31:07throughout that summer we were listening to it just kind of
- 31:09being like, oh, there's something magical here.
- 31:11And then at the end of the summer, we got in the studio
- 31:13with Kyle and the rest of the song just formed so quickly
- 31:16together. So it took, you know, a couple
- 31:18months to fully write the song. But I was looking back at the
- 31:21voice memos and I was like April 5th, which is weird.
- 31:23And it's called Four O 5 because of the four O 5 freeway in
- 31:25California, for those of you who don't know, but it's also April
- 31:285th. And I was like, whoa, that's
- 31:29weird. No, that's crazy.
- 31:31Another another full circle moment too.
- 31:33Yeah. So I love Four O 5, one of my
- 31:35favorites. But I was telling you before the
- 31:36show started, I was like, you know what I think is going to
- 31:38inch out Four O 5 for me right now when your discography is
- 31:41nothing like me. I love nothing like me.
- 31:43Like the lyrics. I relate to it so deeply.
- 31:46And we talked about it because I asked you just personally, I was
- 31:48like, so you're describing another girl who doesn't do all
- 31:50these things. And it's literally you just
- 31:53saying I am, not that I am, I'm the opposite.
- 31:56It's the person I wish I was. You know, you ever have those
- 31:59things where, like, I wish I could be the cool girl.
- 32:01I wish I could be chill. I wish I could not care.
- 32:03But I do. And instead of fighting it and
- 32:05pretending, you know what? I'm just gonna embrace that, you
- 32:07know, that's not like me. I'm gonna be crazy and.
- 32:10Period. I love it.
- 32:11If anything is like, embracing, it actually helps you process
- 32:14things, yeah. Oh my God, I literally love
- 32:16nothing like me. You've said that this is your
- 32:19like cry dance song, and that's my favorite kind of music right
- 32:21now. Like, I just want to be able to
- 32:23feel everything but also have it be like a really big Bob too,
- 32:26yes. Because you can like, that's how
- 32:28you get out your emotions. I love like happy or like sad
- 32:32lyrics but happy music. That makes sense, yes I fucking
- 32:36love that and I think my favorite lyric in this song,
- 32:38I've told you this before but is that she doesn't sip on memories
- 32:41like a watered down coke. That is so beautiful.
- 32:43Thank you. That's that's the lyric that
- 32:45started the song, actually, because I was, I literally
- 32:47remember this. I was driving home from the
- 32:49Grove in California and I some Like I said, it's different
- 32:52every time I write a song. I.
- 32:52Was just out the Grove. I love the Grove, it always
- 32:54feels like Christmas when I'm there.
- 32:56It just always gives like Christmas vibes.
- 32:57Oh, my God, It was beautiful. It's pretty there.
- 32:59Yeah. I took my ex.
- 33:01Oh, she came from out of town and we went to the Grove.
- 33:03Oh. I love that though.
- 33:04Yeah, it was cute anyways. So you came anyways?
- 33:06Yeah. I was driving home from the
- 33:07Grove. Yeah.
- 33:08And I literally in my head, it was just like, I saw this image.
- 33:10Yeah, of a girl. And she was sipping like a
- 33:12vintage Coke bottle. You know, the, like, clear ones.
- 33:15I like vintagey. Like, I'm looking.
- 33:16He sat at the window and I was like, you know, going through
- 33:18something with a guy. I was just like feeling
- 33:20emotional, but I wrote that in my phone.
- 33:21I was like sipping memories, like a watered down coke, like
- 33:24still thinking on memories, like still, you know, holding on
- 33:26tightly to things and like trying to make him last even
- 33:29though it's like no time is moving by.
- 33:31And then two weeks later, I think I was in a session with a
- 33:35amazing writer and he just started making a beat and then
- 33:38playing some guitar. And I just started, you know,
- 33:41being in my little corner, got my notes app out and was like
- 33:44writing away. But that's what like, kind of
- 33:45started the whole song. Oh my God.
- 33:48And that's such a powerful fucking visual as the lyric to
- 33:50that song itself. Just everything, like I was
- 33:52telling you before the show started, I really should have
- 33:54saved it for when we were shooting, but I was telling you,
- 33:56I was like, I was trying to find lyrics to post on my Instagram
- 33:59story because like, I'm like, I love a little supplemental, but
- 34:02I was like trying to find lyrics, the perfect lyrics post
- 34:04and I was like every fucking lyric hits.
- 34:06And this is it. I specifically also love because
- 34:08I'm a big journaler. I'm a big journaler.
- 34:10I write everything about how I'm feeling, my day, everything I'm
- 34:13going through, everything I'm thinking.
- 34:14So I love the lyric that you said.
- 34:16She's not reading old journals and running herself in circles
- 34:18trying to out feel the pain. What?
- 34:20That is so fucking powerful. Literally samesies.
- 34:22Yeah, I do. Read my old journals.
- 34:23Too. I'm like, oh, I missed that
- 34:25time. I missed that era.
- 34:26Yeah. Yeah.
- 34:27I'm like, girl, why? Like sometimes they're like, but
- 34:29you know what? Hey, it's like, you know, I'm a
- 34:31feeler. I love feeling things.
- 34:34And you know what? I love to feel my emotions.
- 34:35But that is true. It's like sometimes you know you
- 34:38can't you can't out feel the pain of things like you can't
- 34:41out work. Like if you are hurt like now
- 34:44that I am older, I know this like you do have to like process
- 34:46your feelings. You can't just out.
- 34:48Shit sucks. Yeah, you just got to sit in it.
- 34:50Otherwise it will come up in other ways.
- 34:52So like you got to and it's annoying.
- 34:53But I'm a big fan of China and like out feel the pain.
- 34:56Yeah, I love that. I love running away.
- 34:57From being I got to work. I got to distract the hell out
- 35:00of myself, but I'm like. I'm going to like.
- 35:02Yeah, No, I can't. I don't think I could do that.
- 35:04Yeah, I. Don't think I could distracting
- 35:06myself. That's why my first CP
- 35:08distracting myself. It's titled Distracting myself
- 35:10because you're trying to feel the.
- 35:11Pain Gotchu OK that's a fun fact.
- 35:13Lulu OK love nothing like me. That is so powerful and
- 35:16goodnight. How long did that one take?
- 35:17Cuz I feel like when I was watching your songwriting
- 35:19process of it too. I think you started in like 2021
- 35:21and finished in 2023. Yeah, Well, that was fast.
- 35:23Like writing it. We did it one day, One day
- 35:25writing it. But then we went back when I was
- 35:27making the album because I had written so many songs, like
- 35:29probably 152 hundred songs over the course of these years.
- 35:33Right. Right.
- 35:33So, you know, I was going through all of my demos trying
- 35:37to figure out, OK, what's the best order?
- 35:38Like what, what story do I want to tell?
- 35:40What fits together on the album? Because I'm very big into like,
- 35:42you know, being intentional about the sequencing on.
- 35:44Yeah, the track listing. Yes.
- 35:46And nothing like me was just we were like this has to be on
- 35:48there. Like absolutely has to be on
- 35:50there. Oh my God, it's so fucking good.
- 35:52I love nothing like me. So that's one of the songs I was
- 35:54talking about where I'm like, you are literally speaking to
- 35:56myself. I feel like you wrote it for me.
- 35:58I feel like I wrote it because I'm like, this is me and I'm a
- 36:00big journaler too, and I know you are too.
- 36:02Yes, I do love reading old journals.
- 36:04I love feeling things. Actually, I don't like feeling
- 36:06things. I try not to feel anything
- 36:07which. It's good like journaling is.
- 36:10So I always encourage people, if you don't journal, this is your
- 36:12sign to start journaling. It's going to change your life.
- 36:15I've always wanted to be a journal girl.
- 36:17I was like, I just want to be one of those people that
- 36:19journals. I could never do it until I had
- 36:20a friend be like, oh, just put pictures in there with it.
- 36:22And for some reason it clicked to my brain.
- 36:25And so at the end of 2019, like December 2019 is when I started.
- 36:29And it's crazy now to look back because I think I have over, I
- 36:31think I have like 18 journals total now.
- 36:34But like, to have all of these memories and moments from really
- 36:36growing up like age 18 to now 24, like, that's insane.
- 36:40And I know one day I'm going to be like, so grateful to look
- 36:42back on them. It's also just so it's like a
- 36:44time capsule. Yes, that's what I love about
- 36:46journals too. Like I love seeing exactly what
- 36:48I felt in the moment, especially because I'm over it or
- 36:50something's different. Like it's like, no, that's how I
- 36:52felt then. This is what I was going
- 36:53through. This is how I dealt with it.
- 36:54This is how I got through it, and I love that too.
- 36:55It's also reassuring for me too, to remind myself that whatever
- 36:58I'm going through now, whatever I'm journaling about.
- 37:00Actively. I'm going to get through it.
- 37:02Exactly. And I see things.
- 37:03I'm like, Oh my gosh, like whenever I'm feeling, you know,
- 37:05insecurity, you're like a wave of comparison.
- 37:08I look back and I'm like, Oh my gosh, I'm like where I was
- 37:10praying for like if 20 year old me knew where I am today, like
- 37:13she would be so happy. Like it makes you really
- 37:15grateful to see how far you've come.
- 37:16And like you said, like you can overcome anything because you
- 37:19have the physical proof of like you do where you were.
- 37:21Yeah, and it's a timestamp of what you're feeling in that
- 37:23moment, too. You know what's interesting?
- 37:25Actually, one of your journal entries that you had scanned and
- 37:26put on your website, you did mention that you were comparing
- 37:28yourself a lot. And you're like, it's the most
- 37:29evil thing. That's a direct quote from that
- 37:32journal entry. And then actually right after
- 37:34that journal entry, that's when you wrote down the lyrics for
- 37:37Ellie Doesn't Miss Me, which is another beautiful, stunning song
- 37:40that I fucking love too. So I think it's super powerful
- 37:43to journal to remember that. And then also like looking back
- 37:46at how you felt, like, do you still feel that way?
- 37:47Do you compare yourself a lot? I think obviously not as, yeah,
- 37:51not as much. It's like, you know, my frontal
- 37:53lobe is a little bit more developed.
- 37:55You're getting there. I'm getting there, but of course
- 37:58that's still going to happen. But I think it's more of a it's,
- 38:02it's more of like an inner knowing, like the more you
- 38:03develop yourself and the more I developed, you know, my own
- 38:06confidence. Yeah, there's waves of
- 38:07comparison or insecurity that are going to cross, but it
- 38:09doesn't become part of your identity when you know that
- 38:11that's like it'll, it'll pass Versus when you're younger.
- 38:14It's like it can be all consuming.
- 38:16And especially too, when you are like trying to figure out what
- 38:18you want to do in life. Like it's, it's so overwhelming.
- 38:20And, you know, I always like try to look back on myself with
- 38:23grace and give my other friends or people grace who are younger.
- 38:27Like you're not supposed to have to figure it out.
- 38:29Like, I have so many Kincadians that are, you know, they'll
- 38:32message me talking about how they're so anxious and
- 38:33overwhelmed. They don't know what they want
- 38:35to do, what they're like. And I'm like, that's OK.
- 38:36Try everything Like, you embrace this time.
- 38:39Yeah, embrace this time. Try things.
- 38:40Try different internships, try different, you know, degrees,
- 38:43try different things. So that way you can figure out
- 38:45what you really like and what you're really passionate about.
- 38:47100% and also like just putting yourself out there and just
- 38:50doing things too. It's also a good practice just
- 38:52for like living life. And I feel like a lot of us are
- 38:54like so stuck in like either the past or like thinking about
- 38:56what's coming next in the future.
- 38:57That's what I like about you that you're constantly taking
- 38:59pictures and videos like that. You're capturing the moments
- 39:01that you're existing in, right? And I feel like that's such an
- 39:04important thing because I always tell people, This is why I
- 39:07encourage people to journal. Life is worth remembering.
- 39:09Your life is worth remembering. So take the pictures, write the
- 39:12journal, do the things. The friendship bracelets.
- 39:15Yeah, take the moment and taste it.
- 39:17You've got no reason to be afraid.
- 39:19Wait, I love you're on your own, kid.
- 39:21No. Yes.
- 39:22I just when he said like, take the, take the memories, I was
- 39:24just like, Oh my God, I have to say.
- 39:26The bridge of You're on your own kid is so good, do you know?
- 39:28It I cried to that earlier today really so good I love midnight
- 39:31and I figured it out you want to know why why the fall of 22 hit
- 39:34so differently because it was the last year without AI like
- 39:37mainstream AI like interesting there was no.
- 39:38Strategy, But you're getting into it.
- 39:39I mean, you're giving midnights of your makeup.
- 39:41I mean, you do a lot of sparkly eyeshadow.
- 39:42I had so many people be like Oh my gosh, she's doing the liking
- 39:45kid eyeshadow. When she posted the videos I was
- 39:47like period. OK.
- 39:48There you go on brand. OK, OK.
- 39:50Period. We love marketing.
- 39:51Because I love glitter because you know what I realized
- 39:54sometimes, you know, you may not feel good, but sometimes
- 39:57dressing like if you dress like I'm that person where like if I
- 39:59put makeup on, even if I'm just working at home or writing at
- 40:01home, I like will write a better song.
- 40:03It's literally like I use makeup is almost like a tool of my
- 40:05creativity, which I love, which is why I have made these makeup
- 40:09charts and for every single song on cinematic too and YouTube
- 40:12tutorials. So you can go check those out if
- 40:15you want to match with me one day.
- 40:16You're also such a visual artist too and I feel like ideas that
- 40:19you have however so fun and like very very a part of the world.
- 40:22Like the track listing reveal that you did where you wrote out
- 40:25the songs in track list order on popcorn buckets.
- 40:28That's so fucking cute. It's cinematic.
- 40:30See movie theme, it's all it's all it's all interconnected It's
- 40:34like that meme, you know the meme where it's like the guy and
- 40:35he has like the the white board with all like the lines totally
- 40:38that's how that's how my brain feels all the time I can tell I
- 40:41don't talk I'm like this but you know what we're just embracing
- 40:44it yeah, we're embracing it. I.
- 40:46Feel like that's how I yeah, how I live too.
- 40:48Honestly, it's kind of chaotic. But it's like it makes sense to
- 40:51me. Yeah, totally.
- 40:52And you're actually being able to translate it well into the
- 40:54real world, too. Thank you.
- 40:55And you know what's interesting about the whole thing about,
- 40:57like, cinematic, like, this is so based in Hollywood.
- 41:00You love vintage things, You love the glamour of it.
- 41:03And you've been in LA for a while now.
- 41:06Is it a decade, would we say? Yeah, That's crazy.
- 41:09To say a decade. You've been in the music
- 41:11industry, you've seen things, you've met people, you've done
- 41:14things. This album is the T on
- 41:16Hollywood. It really is.
- 41:17Plus I just find it so, you know, I would say like LA, the
- 41:21city of Los Angeles is like the biggest love hate relationship I
- 41:24probably probably will ever be. Like even with my second EPLA
- 41:28doesn't miss me. I was like, I hate LA, I'm
- 41:30getting away. But it was like not LA.
- 41:31It was just the people I was around at the time.
- 41:33And then like, but it really does.
- 41:34There's something about this city that inspires you so much.
- 41:37I think it's because I realize this.
- 41:39I think it's because there's so much history in here.
- 41:40Like whenever I'm walking down, I'm like, think about all of the
- 41:43iconic people who also walk down here, like.
- 41:45Who had their own dreams? Yeah.
- 41:47And like, I don't know, just that's why I love vintage
- 41:49clothes because I'm like, there's a story in there.
- 41:51Yeah, there's a story. I'm always like, I always want
- 41:53to know the story. Like I love estate sales.
- 41:55I love estate sales. I will wake up so early.
- 41:57I will always wake up early for an estate sale or a sunrise or
- 42:00sunset because I just love like the history and things.
- 42:03And I think it's so. Beautiful, yeah.
- 42:05And the intentionality behind it.
- 42:07And I'm trying to bring incorporate that into our
- 42:09current day and age because everything moves so fast.
- 42:11And I'm like, no, but let's like take our time and like.
- 42:14Like totally 100% and I feel like that intention is why when
- 42:18you are doing your visuals, when you're creating things like the
- 42:22visual that you did for cinematic with what was it?
- 42:24It was like it was a lot of B roll from old.
- 42:28Yes, the cinematic music video which is out.
- 42:32Yes, it's so good. Let's all watch it.
- 42:34But I, you know, as an, as an independent artist, like it's
- 42:37just me, like it's me and I have some amazing Co writers, amazing
- 42:40producers, but it's just me kind of doing everything, you know,
- 42:43and I was like, how can I really incorporate myself?
- 42:46Like, you know, I know one day, you know, down the line, I'll
- 42:49have a bigger team and like, you know, be able to make huge music
- 42:52videos. But I was like, you know what?
- 42:53Instead of like, feeling like I don't have enough right now or
- 42:56like, I don't know how it's going to look good, let me just
- 42:57embrace what I have and like, let's make it creative.
- 43:00And I have been collecting, you know, vintage stock footage and
- 43:04like vintage public domain archives since 2021.
- 43:07I wanna say, I'm gonna say years.
- 43:08I have two hard drives. I have like giant hard drives
- 43:10because I think it's so cool. And I'm like, what if the
- 43:12Internet goes away? I'm like, I wanna have these
- 43:13'cause this is part of history. You're sentimental as fuck.
- 43:16Yeah, no, I really am. But I have a whole song about
- 43:18that stream. Sentimental.
- 43:19Stream Sentimental You have a song about everything I.
- 43:21Really do it's true everything my discography isn't even that
- 43:24big. I'm like after the album, it's
- 43:26like, you know, now I'm writing album too.
- 43:27Like we're, we're expanding it, but it's, it's actually crazy
- 43:30'cause I love just writing like really specific songs, but I
- 43:32weirdly enough have like a lot of very specific moments that
- 43:35other people tend to have. But in terms of the music video,
- 43:38I've been collecting all this footage and I was like, I want
- 43:40to try to make something really cool that feels that
- 43:43incorporates those elements. Like I think there's some,
- 43:45there's some clips from the very first movie that ever won an
- 43:49Academy Award that everyone an Oscar would like.
- 43:51Clara Bow is from the silent film era.
- 43:53So it's like incorporating all those into cinematic.
- 43:55I don't know. It just felt so cool.
- 43:57And like, I always say, like, this is like what we were
- 43:59talking about earlier, like do whatever you can or whatever you
- 44:02have, like. And I was like, you know what I
- 44:03have? Yeah.
- 44:04I mean, I have a cinema cinematographer and like all
- 44:06these people to help me with the music video or I might not have
- 44:08a big budget, but you know what I do have?
- 44:09I have my computer and I have two hard drives filled with
- 44:13public domain footage. And I have footage that I took
- 44:14when my dad was shooting the cover up for cinematic on
- 44:17Thanksgiving of last year. And I sat down at my computer
- 44:20for two days. I literally, like, locked myself
- 44:22in my house for two days. Yeah, did not move.
- 44:25And I made it. And I was like, yeah.
- 44:27But I love it because it feels so me.
- 44:29And I'm like, you know what? That's why I'm so grateful now.
- 44:30It's like being an independent artist.
- 44:32Yeah, it's harder, but I'm able to fully say whatever I want to
- 44:36say. And so I'm just embracing this
- 44:37this time and embracing, you know?
- 44:39And as you grow as an artist, that's going to change and
- 44:41you're going to adapt to it and you're going to start being able
- 44:43to onboard people who can help fulfill your vision too.
- 44:45But where you are right now, it's beautiful.
- 44:47You can do exactly the art that you want to do.
- 44:49Thank you. No, no restrictions, no outside
- 44:54thoughts there. It's just like Lily Kincaid, and
- 44:55this is truly that with cinematic.
- 44:57Thank you. And it's really special for me
- 44:58too because, you know, I never want to in the future.
- 45:01It's like I never want anything to get in the way of me and the
- 45:04Kincadians because ultimately it's like that's who I'm making
- 45:07music for is like for other people.
- 45:09Like no matter what, I'm not making music for an algorithm.
- 45:11I'm not making videos for an algorithm.
- 45:13I want to make real art. It's like, yeah, you can do
- 45:15other content and things to support that, but at the end of
- 45:17the day, like I never, you have to make certain like principles
- 45:21and like certain values that you're not going to compromise
- 45:23on when you when you begin like, you know, an artistic career.
- 45:26And one of those is like, I don't want to compromise on, you
- 45:28know, the music because at the end of the day, I love visuals.
- 45:31But if I had to pick one thing, it always goes back to the song.
- 45:34It always goes back to the song and the storytelling and
- 45:36songwriting for me. And I don't know, I just feel
- 45:39very lucky that right now I can, you know, have the freedom to
- 45:42release whatever I want to. Release and I love that.
- 45:44So I wanted to ask because you've been working on this
- 45:46album for a few years now, yes. Why is now the right time to put
- 45:49out your debut album? You only get one debut album.
- 45:52I know, isn't that crazy? It's crazy.
- 45:54Like I knew, first of all, I love fall album releases.
- 45:58I just feel so there's something about it being so cozy.
- 46:00Everyone's going back home for the holidays, They're
- 46:02travelling. I also love like I'm a night owl
- 46:05and I don't know. I just love it when it gets, I
- 46:07know, like some people hate it, but I love when it gets dark
- 46:08early. I don't know.
- 46:09I just feel so cozy, but it feels so cozy like I don't know
- 46:14and I don't no, I just like, I feel like music.
- 46:17Well, yes, I love listening to music with friends.
- 46:19I'm a big person of like music has kept me company.
- 46:22I only like listening to music when I'm alone.
- 46:24Yeah, and like, I remember just like, you know, being an only
- 46:26child, you know, on holidays or when, you know, we had break
- 46:29from school, I was always very lonely.
- 46:31Like I didn't have siblings to entertain me or to play games
- 46:33with. And so like, I would always go
- 46:35to music. I would either be playing music
- 46:36or listening to music. And it was a big comfort.
- 46:39So I, I really wanted to release it around this time because I'm
- 46:42like, OK, I hope it can comfort people as they like travel.
- 46:45There's so much intention behind this album.
- 46:47Yeah. Oh my gosh.
- 46:48And now it's finally here, guys. So I want to talk about another
- 46:52track. You are a big fan of name
- 46:55dropping months in your music. Yes, We already went over that.
- 46:57But there's a song on this album called Still in August.
- 47:01Let's talk about Still in August.
- 47:03Still in August is one of my favorite songs.
- 47:07I always say that about every song, though, because I'm like,
- 47:08they're my children. Like they're just different.
- 47:10They're like different stories. But Still in August, I remember
- 47:13I was not over this one guy that I had dated.
- 47:16And I think I wrote, I started writing this song in end of
- 47:19January or February. And I literally was like still
- 47:21in those memories. And I was like, this is
- 47:22ridiculous. I'm like, it's been 6 months.
- 47:24Like Lily, why aren't you over it?
- 47:26And I was like, you know what, maybe I just need to write a
- 47:29song about this because this is, this is going on way too long,
- 47:31girl. And, you know, I think I think
- 47:35it's a very relatable feeling to still be in a moment when
- 47:38everyone around you has moved on, whether that be, you know, a
- 47:40relationship, a friendship. And it's more common than you
- 47:45think. And I don't know, like, it was
- 47:46very healing writing that song to finally be like, you know
- 47:49what? Yeah, maybe I do still care.
- 47:51Similar to like, nothing like me.
- 47:52Like, yeah, I will convince myself I don't care.
- 47:54I don't care. I don't care, but I do.
- 47:55And eventually, like, you have to face that feeling.
- 47:57Yeah, instead of running away from it.
- 47:59Yeah. Yeah.
- 48:00And honestly, honestly, getting over things and healing isn't
- 48:02linear. Yeah.
- 48:03And there's no defined timeline for it.
- 48:04So I think it's normal, like, to take your time with it if you
- 48:07need to. Some people get over things
- 48:08really quickly. Some people, like, revisit them.
- 48:10I don't fucking no, honestly, Like, don't ask me about
- 48:12nothing, yeah. Well, and sometimes too, it's
- 48:14like it's not my choice. Like sometimes it's like I don't
- 48:16want to be feeling these feelings.
- 48:17Why am I feeling them, you know? Absolutely, 100%.
- 48:20So real quick T, do you think not?
- 48:24Do you think I'm wondering, is one of the subject matters of
- 48:27this album like an actor? Because we have Mr. Hollywood,
- 48:33we don't have to talk. No, no, it's good.
- 48:36I'm not going to be mean the. First time you got speechless
- 48:39this entire episode because you've been you've been yapped
- 48:42in America. What do you define actor as?
- 48:45I guess somebody who calls who identifies themselves as an
- 48:47actor? Sure.
- 48:48Shady fuck. What do you define actor as
- 48:53someone booking? But then I'm like, OK, I can't
- 48:55be mean because I'm like, I always tell people like, no, if
- 48:58you are doing something like technically you can call
- 49:00yourself that. So like technically he's he is
- 49:01an actor. Damn, that is some shade.
- 49:04Lulu Girl. I love that.
- 49:05OK, so an actor type. Yeah.
- 49:09Got it. Yes, that's what Mr. Hollywood
- 49:12is about, Yeah. It's like he wanted to be the
- 49:14star, but it's like, no. We talked to the.
- 49:16Star, I don't think, I don't think it works.
- 49:19I think relationships, I heard this advice from somebody like a
- 49:22long time ago and it was you know what, in every relationship
- 49:24there has to be a balloon and a rock, you know where they can
- 49:28switch off at certain points. But, you know, if two people
- 49:30want to be a star, it's not going to work because you need
- 49:33the grounding energy and you need like, that supportive
- 49:35energy together. And like, I realized this as
- 49:38I've gotten older. Like sometimes people want to
- 49:40date you because they want to be you, which is like very scary.
- 49:42Actually. It's kind of, it's kind of crazy
- 49:44how, like they admire you so much that they want to be you.
- 49:46So they want to get as close to you as possible.
- 49:49But yeah, but it's very interesting.
- 49:50Like, as I've, you know, but every single experience, like,
- 49:53I'm so grateful for it. And ultimately it's like
- 49:55everything has made me who I am today.
- 49:57And also, like, I've have some amazing songs out of it.
- 50:00And I think some people know that, like, some some guys at
- 50:03least, at least this one person we're referring to, like, knows
- 50:05that. Like knows that, yeah.
- 50:07Like will bother me just because he knows I'm going to write a
- 50:09song about. It fuck that's crazy.
- 50:11I know, but then I'm like, but I get good songs out of that's a
- 50:14whole thing. But then it's like, yeah, it's,
- 50:16it's a tortured artist trope. It's like a real thing.
- 50:18Oh, it's so true. And you know what?
- 50:19We talked about this after your hotel cafe show a couple weeks
- 50:22ago. Go, but don't date producers.
- 50:27Don't date musicians. Yeah, but it's like I'm a
- 50:30musician. So like, I guess it's like I
- 50:32would. My biggest thing I love is like
- 50:36somebody who knows who they are. OK.
- 50:37Yeah, if somebody who knows who they are because, you know,
- 50:39yeah, I love somebody who's confident, as I always say,
- 50:43like, you cannot ask for things that you aren't.
- 50:45So like, if you are somebody who's a dedicated hard worker,
- 50:48like, then that's fair. You should be looking for
- 50:51somebody else who's also a hard worker, who's driven, who's, you
- 50:53know, motivated. I so agree with all of that.
- 50:55Yes, don't date a producer. OK, so also should we not date
- 50:58actors? I don't know.
- 51:01I feel like for me, it would be difficult.
- 51:02Like, I don't want to like, I know they're acting, but then
- 51:05I'm like, but what if you're not acting?
- 51:07That's the reason I always think about like, you know, you think
- 51:09about Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt and then, like, Brad Pitt
- 51:12was on the movie with Angelina Jolie.
- 51:15Literally, they have been married for five years, and then
- 51:17he fell in love with Angelina Jolie and they got divorced.
- 51:19Yeah. I feel like I need somebody
- 51:21who's creative in some way, but like a normal person, like
- 51:24Normie, not Normie, but like somebody in the industry who
- 51:27understands the mindset of a creative, but somebody that's a
- 51:29lot more like business like. Yeah, no, I agree with that.
- 51:33I feel, I feel like for me, and you mentioned this earlier and I
- 51:35completely agree with you. It's like you're the star, I'm
- 51:37the star. And I don't want to be with
- 51:39someone where I feel like I have to compete with egos.
- 51:41Yes, because like honestly, I have a huge ego and I don't want
- 51:43to compete with an ego. So like I guess where I am
- 51:45because I used to think I wanted to date someone who was out of
- 51:48the industry, like completely unrelated, but then they no, you
- 51:50don't. They never got me.
- 51:51You don't. Because it's like you often feel
- 51:53like you are like a show pony. Yes, like, and then also too at
- 51:57the same time, it's almost like, yeah, they like think you're
- 52:00amazing because they're like, oh, that's so cool, that's so
- 52:02creative. But then also too, there's a
- 52:03part of them that like doesn't think it's a real job.
- 52:05Like they don't and and it it's really weird, like.
- 52:07I dealt with that. I had this situation.
- 52:08I was just like, oh, like you think this is like a hobby, like
- 52:11a fun And I'm like, no, this is my like I've spent like this is
- 52:14not some. Cute little.
- 52:15Thing I'm doing. Yeah.
- 52:16Totally somebody who is creative, who also can
- 52:18understand that mindset, but you know, you live and.
- 52:21Learn. So we go back.
- 52:22We go back to dating the producers then.
- 52:24Yeah. But yeah, I don't know.
- 52:26I feel like the best situation is to be like friends with
- 52:27people first, like you always. Like, I don't know, it feels
- 52:31like every time you have a friend, they end up catching
- 52:35feelings. I don't want to be friends with
- 52:37people I think I want to date. I think I'd rather just like,
- 52:39not be friends. Exactly.
- 52:41But at a certain point, somebody will catch feelings.
- 52:43That's how they do. It's like our brains are wired
- 52:44to like, select the best match out of whoever is around.
- 52:48Us wait, you're like totally like this is all.
- 52:50Scientific something in. Me like kind of like somethings
- 52:53making sense. We're back to the white board.
- 52:55And yeah, like, it's interesting because a lot of the situations
- 52:58in my life, at least I guess it's like 5050, but, you know,
- 53:01I've had like, a lot of friends. And then it turns into, you
- 53:03know, catching feelings, Then you know, somebody from a
- 53:05perspective of, like, you're not just trying to impress them,
- 53:07like, you know their heart. You've seen them in certain
- 53:09situations. So it's hard reason.
- 53:10I love care about them. Yeah.
- 53:11OK, wait. Love.
- 53:12Love. Love.
- 53:12Love. Love, Love.
- 53:13Love. But then if it goes bad then
- 53:15like OK now we're not friends anymore either.
- 53:18OT. So it's like, you know more.
- 53:19But you know what I am, she is nothing like me because I have
- 53:24no problem cutting off friends. So yeah, big fan of cutting off
- 53:29friends because I had I was talking to my roommate about it
- 53:31because he was like, you can't just ghost people.
- 53:33And I was like, and I played nothing like me.
- 53:36And then it was like, she doesn't cut off.
- 53:40But Ryan, Ryan, let me tell you. Oh no, scared.
- 53:43The person who is singing that song and definitely me is not
- 53:45the person you want to be. The person who you want to be is
- 53:47the one who doesn't cut. But I'm embracing being the
- 53:50nothing like me. You know what I mean?
- 53:52OK, true. Yes, because honestly, I like
- 53:53that crazy. I love all yes, we aspire to be
- 53:56this more polished version of ourselves and we're
- 53:59acknowledging that that's nothing like me right now.
- 54:01But I also really embrace that is nothing like me because I'm
- 54:03just like, yeah, whatever. If I'm a little crazy, I'm a
- 54:05little crazy. It is, but also to.
- 54:06Embracing like the things that you value, like I totally think
- 54:10it is OK to have your boundaries and have what you are, you know,
- 54:15because you know, time is time is our most valuable resource
- 54:18and you want to make sure that you're spending it with friends
- 54:20who love and care about you. TTTT Yeah.
- 54:24When people wrong me, they're out.
- 54:25I'm done. Don't care.
- 54:26No second chances. Hate them.
- 54:28Good, Good to go. I was going to say, I often know
- 54:30too, if I like, have feelings for somebody, if I write a song
- 54:32about them because I can't force a song about somebody.
- 54:35Yeah, isn't that weird? It almost tells me I'm like, I
- 54:37don't like you if I can't write a song about you naturally.
- 54:39I kind of love that though, and especially like, it's also so
- 54:42beautiful and it's such art. And I'm the same type of person,
- 54:44I think, because I also write and I also want to show them
- 54:47what I write. Yeah, you know what I mean?
- 54:48Wait, I showed you that? That's long after the hotel at
- 54:50the cafe. That was about that one guy.
- 54:52I know, I know the tea. I know all of the tea.
- 54:56I feel like. But hey, isn't it cool that you
- 54:58like get out there? Yeah, Oh my God, I love, I love
- 55:01to write quotes when I'm writing.
- 55:03Yes, I love specific things. That's why I really fuck with
- 55:05your music. Because I'm like, you know what
- 55:08I often say? Like, you know the world won't
- 55:11know who it's about, but the person it is about should know
- 55:13it's about. I write it so they know it's
- 55:15about that direct quotes. I describe things very
- 55:18explicitly. It needs to be like they need
- 55:20to. Know because I'm like even just
- 55:22in general, it's like people often try to make their songs
- 55:24relatable. I'm like, stop trying.
- 55:25If it's relatable to you, if it's relatable to like something
- 55:28you went through exactly, it's going to be relatable to
- 55:30someone. Else 100% exactly.
- 55:32And that was that. Like we said earlier, what I
- 55:34said earlier, those are the type of music that I relate to the
- 55:37most when it's like the artist is getting very specific, very
- 55:40into it, you know what I mean? So that's what I love and that's
- 55:43what I love about your music too.
- 55:44I want to highlight another song on this album.
- 55:48I want to start with the open track Behind the Scenes.
- 55:51I love this song so much. Yeah, it is the second to last
- 55:53song I wrote for the project, really.
- 55:55And I, you know, at this point in time, I had written
- 55:59cinematic, I'd written Mr. Hollywood.
- 56:01I knew the theme. I was like, OK, it's going to be
- 56:03like movie cinematic theme, old Hollywood.
- 56:05So I made a list of like, OK, if there was any other things I
- 56:07would maybe write that were on theme, What are some good
- 56:10lyrics? And I'd written down like behind
- 56:12the scenes. And I played around with the
- 56:13piano melody, then went into the studio and wrote the song and
- 56:16like, I was like, this is the perfect opener.
- 56:18I didn't. I knew I wanted cinematic to
- 56:20almost be like track 2 because an opener to me should introduce
- 56:23the listener to the. Sonic World, The landscape, of
- 56:26course. I agree.
- 56:26And behind the scenes, like it came together so fast and I just
- 56:29love it because, you know, I love writing kind of like
- 56:31internal songs. And it ended up being the
- 56:34perfect, perfect opener, you know, just being like, hey, if I
- 56:37tell you all of these emotions and secrets, like, are you still
- 56:41going to stick around? I.
- 56:42Love that, that's so beautiful. And like the opening line,
- 56:46there's a lot of things you don't know and I'm not sure if
- 56:48you wanna. I've been giving glitter and
- 56:49gold temporary Nirvana. I just love that cuz like the I
- 56:52was worth of glitter, you know, that's like you literally set.
- 56:54The stage for the album with those lyrics too.
- 56:57I fucking love that. And you're also taking us behind
- 56:59the scenes too. You've been taking us behind the
- 57:01scenes with your entire career, your artistry.
- 57:02It's so like, but this is like the reason why I was like, this
- 57:04is just the perfect debut album. Even growing up in LA and like
- 57:07having, you know, old Hollywood and just being around it and
- 57:10like, I don't know, it just felt.
- 57:11And the fact that nobody had like done that before, it just
- 57:15felt like, OK, it was all coming together.
- 57:17That's how I knew. Because, like, you know, you
- 57:19spend a lot of time as a songwriter and artist being
- 57:21like, is it done yet? Is it done?
- 57:23Like, should I wait? Should I write a couple more
- 57:25songs for the album? Maybe I'll write a better song.
- 57:27But at a certain point, you have to be like, it's done.
- 57:29And I just knew I was like, it's done.
- 57:31Right. Oh, my God.
- 57:32And here it is. Yeah.
- 57:33Welcome to the world of cinematic.
- 57:35And actually, I want to talk about the title track, but you
- 57:36said you got me something that's gonna.
- 57:39Yeah, take us into the. Cinematic world, you have to
- 57:41open your present. Can we open it?
- 57:42Can I open it? I also got you.
- 57:43There's two presents. We have the first one you can
- 57:45open and then the second one. So this is the first present for
- 57:47you. Wait, I'm so excited.
- 57:49Lily, this is so sweet. My guest never get me gifts.
- 57:52So if you're coming on the show, yeah, I'm just kidding.
- 57:54Please. OK, I'm going to open it.
- 57:56OK, wait. I am a very Virgo opener.
- 58:00Should I just tear it away? Just RIP it.
- 58:02Such a Virgo opener I. Don't know which way is the
- 58:04front. And which?
- 58:04Oh, this is already so sweet. Should I read this out loud?
- 58:08Is that the back? You can read the back and then
- 58:09don't flip it around yet. Don't.
- 58:10Yeah, read the back of the camera.
- 58:12Camera. You see it before I see it.
- 58:14Read the back of it. OK Ryan, thank you from the
- 58:18bottom of my heart for believing in me and my music from the very
- 58:21beginning. You were such a radiant light
- 58:22and your spirit shines in the most beautiful way.
- 58:26Wait, I'm blocking myself. Never stop being you and sharing
- 58:29your gift with the world. I'm endlessly inspired by you
- 58:32and feel so blessed that our powers cross.

- 58:39With love always. With love always, Lily.
- 58:41Sorry, this is so sweet. Thank you so much now.
- 58:44Flip it around, OK. God Gifty review 405 assigned
- 58:49405 cover. This is my favorite song on the
- 58:52fucking album. That is crazy.
- 58:53This is going up in my fucking. Office, I know I special ordered
- 58:55405 just for you because. I was like, you didn't thank you
- 58:58so fucking much. Oh my God I love it.
- 59:01That is so sweet and it's signed.
- 59:03This is literally art. That's a collectible.
- 59:05I'm just kidding. They never sell that.
- 59:07Just. Kidding.
- 59:07Oh my God, no, I mean this is mine forever.
- 59:10Thank you so much. I love 4/04/05.
- 59:12This is your other present. OK, damn, I'm.
- 59:15I'm getting spoiled it. Should you open mine?
- 59:17I feel like. Wait, where did I put it?
- 59:19Oh, here, here it is. I also got you yours.
- 59:22Or do. You want me to open this first
- 59:23and then you can do yours. OK, you'll see it.
- 59:26Yes, I'm. Nervous.
- 59:27What is it? No, it's so cute.
- 59:28Can I wrap? Oh my gosh, I have.
- 59:30I'm wrapping, I'm wrapping. I have my delulu with Ryan Lou
- 59:34mug. Available on my passive
- 59:36storefront. In my hat when I wanted one of
- 59:39these really, I saw him wearing. This.
- 59:41That's right. You're.
- 59:42Wearing the hat and you're wearing your.
- 59:43I don't know if you're wearing it today.
- 59:44Not today, not today when we this was because of Ellie
- 59:47doesn't miss me, that's why I wore this one.
- 59:49I love Ellie. Cheetah.
- 59:50And I love cheetah print. My one cheetah coat.
- 59:52It's about like, probably like November, I'll get out my
- 59:55cheetah coat. Is it like a big?
- 59:56Everyone coat, everyone knows. Like anybody who knows, it's
- 59:59like I can't get rid of it. I just end up wearing it all the
- 1:00:01time. She's the follows me around.
- 1:00:03It follows me around everywhere. I love this delulu because you
- 1:00:06know what? I love why you called your
- 1:00:08podcast delulu. Also because of your name, but
- 1:00:10also because. It's almost like people use
- 1:00:13delusional as like a bad word. I'm like, no.
- 1:00:15You like to be crazy? Yeah, no, it's like you are only
- 1:00:18crazy until it happens. Yup, Yup, you.
- 1:00:21You will be looked at as That's ridiculous.
- 1:00:23That could never happen until it does.
- 1:00:25Yeah. And so it's actually like a
- 1:00:26blessing to be delusional, to have that crazy faith to go
- 1:00:30after your goals. A. 100% because if you don't
- 1:00:31believe in yourself and you're not insane about it, like what
- 1:00:33the fuck? Anyone's gonna who's gonna
- 1:00:34believe in you? Who's gonna want to support you
- 1:00:36Exactly Love delulu. I love this.
- 1:00:37Also, there's a card in there in.
- 1:00:38My card. Do you want me to read it later?
- 1:00:40Should I read it later? Read now?
- 1:00:41Read it. Read it now.
- 1:00:43Wait, this is so cute. OK, I need to get.
- 1:00:45Yeah, I mean, I need to get my. I need to get my cards.
- 1:00:47I get my face on a card, OK. And it's gold.
- 1:00:50I love gold, glitter and gold. You're so cute, you love
- 1:00:53everything. Miss Cinematic herself, I am the
- 1:00:55number one OG Kincaidian. I love your music and I'm so
- 1:00:58glad we can explore the LKCU Lily Kincaid cinematic universe
- 1:01:01together. Fave songs right now.
- 1:01:03Nothing like me and four O 5. Love you, I love you.
- 1:01:05I'm screaming out the sunroof period 4.
- 1:01:08O5 I love you. I love handwritten cards too.
- 1:01:11You probably know that, but I love because you're so
- 1:01:14sentimental. Bring back you guys.
- 1:01:15This is my #1 tip. Start writing handwritten
- 1:01:18thinking notes, handwritten letters, handwritten cards to
- 1:01:19people, to your professors, to your friends, to your family, to
- 1:01:22your boss, to your coworkers. You'll be so surprised.
- 1:01:26Yes to your producers, because there's just something so
- 1:01:28special about something handwritten, you know?
- 1:01:31Texts are amazing. I love texts.
- 1:01:32I love phone calls. But you know.
- 1:01:34It's. Just something special about
- 1:01:36having like I have a whole box like I'm sure a lot of people
- 1:01:38do, but I have like a box. Oh nicely, underneath your bed
- 1:01:41I've. I've ever gone anything, anytime
- 1:01:43anyone's written me anything if like I've had like past like I
- 1:01:46don't know, lovers, whatever sticky notes, like I'll keep all
- 1:01:48that shit for sure. I'm super sentimental too.
- 1:01:50Not sentimental is you, but I'm definitely very sentimental.
- 1:01:53But I love it. It's just so sweet.
- 1:01:54Thank you. Thank you, I love you.
- 1:01:56Wait, I get to open your other half because it's going to help
- 1:01:58you. It's going to help us.
- 1:02:00I like my little painting. Thank you.
- 1:02:03Thank you for a gift. That's crazy.
- 1:02:05OK, here we go. We're doing an ASMR gift
- 1:02:09opening. If you're not watching on the
- 1:02:10Spotify video version of the show, you should be TuneIn right
- 1:02:14now. OK, I'm so sorry.
- 1:02:20Shut the fuck up. There's there's probably
- 1:02:22something else in there too. It might have fell not.
- 1:02:23Shut up. Oh my God, it has he.
- 1:02:25Has an OG king. Katie, thank you so much.
- 1:02:28Oh my God, Thank you. Thank you.
- 1:02:29Wait, I don't want to fuck with my hair.
- 1:02:33We'll put it on after. We'll put it on after.
- 1:02:35OK. Thank you so much.
- 1:02:36Wait, I'm going to put this here.
- 1:02:40Oh my God, a script. Shove all the.
- 1:02:42Lyrics Oh I should have opened this so are you fucking kidding
- 1:02:47me? You're so cute.
- 1:02:48All the lyrics in script format. You're so creative, that is, you
- 1:02:53need to sell these. I'm working on making a big
- 1:02:55book. They're literally it's formatted
- 1:02:57like a fucking script. All of the lyric videos which
- 1:03:01now that the album is out, the lyric videos are out as well.
- 1:03:04I made them all with like the script because it's like extra,
- 1:03:06you know, cinematic. I.
- 1:03:07Fucking love this. Wait, I'm going to dive into
- 1:03:09this because I'm a big lyric person, so like, me too.
- 1:03:12Thank you so much. I'm literally going to.
- 1:03:13I'm going to put this here because we're going to read
- 1:03:15through it together, but Oh my God.
- 1:03:17Wait. Thank you for these gifts.
- 1:03:18Stop. I feel so spoiled.
- 1:03:20This is a blanket. Yeah.
- 1:03:21Shut the fuck off. It's my favorite, so I one of my
- 1:03:24favorite like. Is this the album cover?
- 1:03:25Yeah, one of my favorite pieces of artist merge, I guess, would
- 1:03:29be my Taylor Swift 1989 blanket that I bought on her tour.
- 1:03:32I love it. I take to the beach.
- 1:03:34I love it. And so it's so crazy, but I was
- 1:03:36like, OK, when I have my album, I really want to make a blanket.
- 1:03:39And I don't know, it just was like such a special moment.
- 1:03:42My friend. No.
- 1:03:42And my friend and I went to the beach the other day and I
- 1:03:45brought it with me and it was like, so cool getting to like,
- 1:03:47we were watching the sunset, like sitting on my blanket with
- 1:03:49my album, which is like, so cool because I like, you know, I just
- 1:03:53love it. Thank you.
- 1:03:54So much I'm cozy as fuck. It's giving.
- 1:03:56It's giving. It's giving.
- 1:03:58It's giving like OG Canadian Canadian status.
- 1:04:01Like actually like I'm very comfy and cozy like.
- 1:04:04Wait, there's one more thing. Oh, is there a fellow on the
- 1:04:06ground? I think it fell out when the hat
- 1:04:08when I was here. Oh shit.
- 1:04:09OK, wait. The stickers.
- 1:04:12The stickers. So I made I was sharing these on
- 1:04:14my behind the scenes countdown series, but I love, you know, I
- 1:04:17just love lyrics. And so I wanted to create an
- 1:04:18icon that kind of represented every single track they're.
- 1:04:22So cute. So I turned them into stickers.
- 1:04:24Well, you were so funny. Your fans are super lucky that
- 1:04:26you're so intentional of all of this.
- 1:04:28That is so crazy. I love this because she showed
- 1:04:30me the four O 5 sticker. She showed me the four O 5
- 1:04:32sticker. She texted it to me a couple
- 1:04:34days ago. She's like, do you want one?
- 1:04:35I was like, fuck yeah, I want a four O 5 sticker, but it's like
- 1:04:37the traffic sign for four O 5. I see it right.
- 1:04:40Here and I made them all myself, so I either like took pictures
- 1:04:42of things or like edited things together.
- 1:04:45Wait, thank you for these gifts. Oh my God, I so love them.
- 1:04:48OK, let's get into the. Lyrics.
- 1:04:49And I know you're about the lyrics.
- 1:04:50I love when people are about lyrics.
- 1:04:52I'm like, I'm crazy when I was younger, like, this actually
- 1:04:55like ties into my songwriting. When I was younger, this was,
- 1:04:57like fun for me. I would, like not hang out with
- 1:04:59my friends after school in elementary school.
- 1:05:00And I would go home, print off lyrics of, like, songs on the
- 1:05:03Billboard 200 chart and, like, analyze them.
- 1:05:05Like, I was crazy. I'd be like, oh, my God, this
- 1:05:07rhyme scheme is so cool. Like, oh.
- 1:05:09My God, I'm such a I'm such a frequent visitor of genius.
- 1:05:13Yes, genius lyrics. I was literally doing that last
- 1:05:16night when I was trying to cite all the months that you would
- 1:05:18name drop in your music. I hear it all the time.
- 1:05:20I like. Let me make sure I write this
- 1:05:21kind of. Growing I need like I need
- 1:05:23January. No, I have January in one in New
- 1:05:25Year's resolution. I need March.
- 1:05:27Okay. Something has happened to.
- 1:05:29You in March and April, I think. OK.
- 1:05:34But yeah, these have all the lyrics.
- 1:05:35OK, I want to get into cinematic.
- 1:05:36Oh, here it is because I got the lyrics wrong.
- 1:05:39I tried quoting you because you've actually teased us on the
- 1:05:41lyrics from the title track a bunch where you said I'm going
- 1:05:44to get it wrong and then we're going to get it right.
- 1:05:45It's cinematic, so dramatic. They don't write like they do.
- 1:05:50Your first love. So close, so close.
- 1:05:53Wait, let's. So cinematic, overdramatic.
- 1:05:55They don't write them like the way they write your first love.
- 1:05:58Felt like magic but ended tragic.
- 1:05:59Barely made it out alive. I got the worst luck.
- 1:06:02Yeah, it was good. It was bad.
- 1:06:04Let's do a little line read. Oh yeah, we should do like a
- 1:06:07script. Fuck yeah.
- 1:06:08OK, wait, how do we? Let's read it from the top.
- 1:06:10OK, OK, both of us. OK Scene 1, our story unfolds.
- 1:06:18In no time at all, we were walking down the yellow brick
- 1:06:21road. Oh, because you're from Kansas?
- 1:06:23Yeah. And Wizard of Oz, like that was
- 1:06:25one of my. Favorite movies?
- 1:06:26Oh my God, that totally makes sense.
- 1:06:27Wait, I'm going to edit the genius for this.
- 1:06:29And we're like, fun fact, she's from Kansas.
- 1:06:31OK, seem to spend the night with you.
- 1:06:34Tried to play it cool, then my clothes were in the corner of
- 1:06:37your room. Oh my God, steamy scandalulu.
- 1:06:41Getting little. Oh, OK Kept saying we were
- 1:06:46young. Should have been easy, should
- 1:06:47have had fun. But now the story's done, which
- 1:06:51is also reminiscent of I'm trying to run.
- 1:06:54You can say. Yeah, OK.
- 1:06:56Looking back at you and me, I can't believe we used to be so
- 1:06:59cinematic, overdramatic. They don't write them like the
- 1:07:04way they write. Your first love felt like magic.
- 1:07:08The end of tragic barely made it out alive.
- 1:07:12I got the worst luck. Yeah, it was good, it was bad,
- 1:07:15it was ugly. Watching it back and it's all
- 1:07:17kind of funny. So cinematic over dramatic.
- 1:07:21They don't write M like they write your first love.
- 1:07:25Oh my God. That was beautiful.
- 1:07:27That was Oscar. Worthy.
- 1:07:28OK, yes, give me the Oscar Misses Hollywood.
- 1:07:31Period. Cinematic for the first time
- 1:07:33ever on guitar. Exclusive here.
- 1:07:36I'm delulu. I was.
- 1:07:38Like where I. Was like.
- 1:07:40Where exactly are we exclusively?
- 1:07:42Delulu. Scene 1A story unfolds in no
- 1:07:48time at all we were walking down the yellow brick road.
- 1:07:52Scene 2 dramatic.
- 1:10:18They don't write them like the way they write your first love.
- 1:10:25That was truly cinematic. Thank you.
- 1:10:28Shing Cinematic, the song and album out everywhere now.
- 1:10:31I love that. Thank you so much, this is a
- 1:10:33great gift. I'm literally going to pour into
- 1:10:35this like. No, because I know you love the
- 1:10:37lyrics. I do love the lyrics.
- 1:10:38I'm so happy that, you know, I love the lyrics too, you know,
- 1:10:40it's funny. I care about lyrics so much too.
- 1:10:42And. I feel like I always say that
- 1:10:44for me, like, you know, everyone's different with their
- 1:10:46music and their songwriting, but for me, I'm like, I believe a
- 1:10:49good song is a good song if at the end of the day you could
- 1:10:51just play on guitar or piano and it would still sound good.
- 1:10:55Like what you did at Hotel Cafe and you strip down those 3
- 1:10:57songs. Oh my God.
- 1:10:58Literally. Oh my God, I love this.
- 1:11:00Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you so much.
- 1:11:01I'm super excited about this. Yeah.
- 1:11:03Yeah. It's such a great album, too.
- 1:11:05Thank you. I'm so proud of you.
- 1:11:06Oh, did we? Lose the cards?
- 1:11:08No. They crowned in the blanket.
- 1:11:10OK, so I want to talk about Take Your Seat.
- 1:11:13It's only interlude on the album.
- 1:11:16Yes, so I knew I wanted to make an interlude because it felt
- 1:11:18very cool. That's truly the only purpose
- 1:11:21behind it is like I was like, I want an interlude.
- 1:11:23I just feel like it makes me official.
- 1:11:26And so we created Take Your Seat, the interlude together
- 1:11:30with Kyle Jefferson and then Kevin Hutchins, who was another
- 1:11:32producer on this project. And we wanted to incorporate
- 1:11:34like motifs from some of the other songs kind of blending
- 1:11:37together. So it track 4 is lesson to learn
- 1:11:40and then it kind of blends into the interlude, which I really
- 1:11:43loved because it's kind. Of like.
- 1:11:45Flowing in, it's transitioning in, but I really love the way
- 1:11:48that the album is is sequenced. So you have like, you know,
- 1:11:51behind the scenes is like letting people into the world.
- 1:11:53Then cinematic that's giving a summary.
- 1:11:54It's giving a trailer of like, OK, here's what you're about to
- 1:11:57witness. And then excitement, you know,
- 1:11:59four or five exciting and then lesson to learn like, oh, OK,
- 1:12:02really into this. Like better be like, I hope it's
- 1:12:05not bad. Then you start to get into, you
- 1:12:06know, the highs and lows and all the feelings.
- 1:12:09And we go all the way down, ending at Mr. Hollywood.
- 1:12:12Yes. Oh, my God.
- 1:12:13This literally is a movie. It plays like a movie.
- 1:12:15It is. I love that.
- 1:12:16Yeah. OK, so I ask every guest on
- 1:12:19every show what their most delulu take is.
- 1:12:22Do you have a delulu take you want to share with us?
- 1:12:24OK, a delulu take. What do we got?
- 1:12:27I don't know if this would be, like, really crazy, but I
- 1:12:29actually think that because of AI and the rise of technology,
- 1:12:34it's going to make real artist again.
- 1:12:36Really. Yeah.
- 1:12:37Because it's like it no longer is about making something that
- 1:12:40like sounds good or looks good, which, you know, like, because
- 1:12:44at the end of the day, it's going to be all about
- 1:12:45authenticity. Like, it's going to be all about
- 1:12:47that because, yeah, like a soul, like it doesn't matter how, it
- 1:12:51doesn't matter how good your voice sounds or like how pretty
- 1:12:53you look because AI can like duplicate that or AI can, you
- 1:12:56know, make everything. Like AI could probably make a
- 1:12:59better sounding song to me. But is it real?
- 1:13:01Does it have a soul behind it? Also, too, I think in terms of
- 1:13:04the music industry, you know, people are always all the music
- 1:13:06industry is this, this, this all different things.
- 1:13:08I'm like, I actually think that right now we're witnessing like
- 1:13:10a renaissance of independent artists.
- 1:13:12It's like labels no longer have the power.
- 1:13:14And so it's like real art is actually forming because there's
- 1:13:17no more gatekeepers. Like it's, it's kind of
- 1:13:19neutralizing the territory and people are wanting real art
- 1:13:21again. They're wanting an album.
- 1:13:22Like that's why I was so adamant about creating a project.
- 1:13:25It was because I want to tell a whole story.
- 1:13:26I don't want to just try to make a song go viral.
- 1:13:28It's like I want to make a project.
- 1:13:30And then yes, of course, if something does go viral, you
- 1:13:32give it as many chances as it has.
- 1:13:33But at the end of the day, like, don't compromise.
- 1:13:35At least I didn't want to compromise my art for that.
- 1:13:38And. It definitely wasn't compromise.
- 1:13:40I don't think that's the rule at all.
- 1:13:41That actually makes complete sense.
- 1:13:42Like that was super logical. Yeah.
- 1:13:45I think AI is because I'm craving authenticity.
- 1:13:48I'm craving real stories. I'm craving like actual.
- 1:13:51Experiences like real and people are like, hey, it's going to
- 1:13:53ruin the music industry. I'm like it's going to ruin the
- 1:13:55music industry for you if you are not being real, if you're
- 1:13:57not being yourself. So it's going to get or people
- 1:13:59who are not really dedicated and really passionate, 100% it will.
- 1:14:02It'll kind of just like, you know, if you love something, you
- 1:14:06have to keep going. Like it's going to be hard.
- 1:14:07Like 100% you would, you would still keep doing it.
- 1:14:09And there's nobody else that has the same experiences as you.
- 1:14:12Yeah. So that's like if you can
- 1:14:13incorporate yourself into whatever projects you're doing,
- 1:14:15creative or not creative, that's what that's important.
- 1:14:17I fucking love that. Wait, do you feel like you're
- 1:14:19good at giving advice? Yes.
- 1:14:21OK, we're about to give advice right now on the show.
- 1:14:23Gosh, I feel very like in another life I would have been a
- 1:14:25therapy, but also to like I you kind of are.
- 1:14:27I could not be a therapist because I'd be like, this is
- 1:14:29your problem. Like fix it plenty wants to eat.
- 1:14:31Like I would get so annoyed with people coming back to me with
- 1:14:33the same problem. That's how I am too.
- 1:14:35Oh my God, yeah. But I'm super Virgo, so like,
- 1:14:38I'm super harsh about things too, where I'm like, I I kind of
- 1:14:40see solutions in my head. I mean, honestly, listen, let's
- 1:14:43get into this. So we're doing WWAGWWADGD.
- 1:14:47What the fuck? I don't know why I've been.
- 1:14:48Like what does that mean? It means what would a delulu
- 1:14:50girl do? So we have some besties
- 1:14:52submitting their questions, problems, concerns, dilemmas and
- 1:14:55they want our delulu advice on what we would do in these
- 1:14:58situations. Are you ready?
- 1:14:59This is a warning like if you take our advice like no
- 1:15:02promises, but I have I have confidence in my advice.
- 1:15:05So me too I think my advice is right so no warning just take
- 1:15:10it. OK so we're starting with I
- 1:15:12started dating someone new but I feel insane jealousy over every
- 1:15:16acts they've ever had even though he's dating me now.
- 1:15:18What should I do? OK, I would say you're going to
- 1:15:22get out a journal, you're going to get out a pen, and you're
- 1:15:24going to ask yourself some questions.
- 1:15:26I would start with like, do you like them actually or do you
- 1:15:29just like that they like you? Because it seems like maybe
- 1:15:31right now you just like that they like you because if you
- 1:15:35like them, you would see that no, they're choosing you in this
- 1:15:38moment. Like, yeah, they had people in
- 1:15:39the past. I'm sure you do too, but it's
- 1:15:41like they're choosing you in this moment.
- 1:15:42Often times like you know, when you just like that they like
- 1:15:45you, other people become a threat because in your mind
- 1:15:48you're thinking, oh, they could like their ex tomorrow.
- 1:15:50But it's like, no, this person is choosing to be in a
- 1:15:53relationship with you. And you know also to it's OK to
- 1:15:56express those concerns. I think it's better to either
- 1:15:59talk about it like journal talk about it with your girlfriends.
- 1:16:02Jealousy is normal feeling and if anything, it tells you where
- 1:16:06to care about something. You know, if you're jealous of
- 1:16:08something, it's because you really feel passionate and you
- 1:16:09feel, you know, protective over it.
- 1:16:11So it's actually a good thing, right, If you can use it in the
- 1:16:13right way. But I would say, you know, talk
- 1:16:15with your girlfriend, talk with your friends and see what they
- 1:16:17say. But then like journal about it.
- 1:16:18And if you still feel that way, like it's OK to talk to your,
- 1:16:21the guy you're dating, like about it, not in a crazy way,
- 1:16:23but like, you know. You're so mature and evolved and
- 1:16:26I honestly love that Like. Sometimes I hate it.
- 1:16:29That's good. Sometimes I hate it.
- 1:16:31Like there's a linen seller song that's so good.
- 1:16:33Some of my favorite songs, and that's how I've always felt.
- 1:16:34It's called Older Than I Am. It's like one of the most
- 1:16:36amazing songs ever. It's so beautiful.
- 1:16:39It will make you stop. Have you heard that?
- 1:16:40No, I'm gonna make you listen to it.
- 1:16:41Oh my God, you have to. You're gonna have to show me a
- 1:16:43bunch of things. Oh, good.
- 1:16:43But it's like the lyrics are sometimes I wish I could do
- 1:16:46something stupid, be kind of reckless while I can, but I'm
- 1:16:49older than I am. Oh shit, it's like really good.
- 1:16:51That is so good. OK.
- 1:16:52It's so good, but yeah. Your answer was super evolved.
- 1:16:54I love that. Personally I would have started
- 1:16:56to fight with them and accused them of being unloyal to me for
- 1:16:59dating other people. It's like you didn't you mean
- 1:17:01your your future that you're going to be with me.
- 1:17:02Like what's up with that? You know what I mean?
- 1:17:04Yeah. Totally.
- 1:17:05Or I like playing like detective, like I'm really good
- 1:17:07at like investigating like I can be like.
- 1:17:08Anything fucking insane like I'm not getting Instagram.
- 1:17:12Oh, I investigate. Oh no, I'll be like, your ex was
- 1:17:16doing this on this day in this city, and then I was.
- 1:17:18Like I'm really. Weird.
- 1:17:19And where were you? Yeah.
- 1:17:20It's not even that hard like I have one of my really good
- 1:17:23friends in Nashville like she is like even better than me.
- 1:17:26She she uncovered this whole like scam with these people on
- 1:17:29TikTok tending to be disabled. What?
- 1:17:31That's fucking crazy. And it went viral.
- 1:17:33I'm like, it's crazy because she uncovered it and she literally
- 1:17:36just like looked at things on Google and she's like, you guys
- 1:17:38are crazy. They were taking donations and
- 1:17:39they were not disabled. That's fucked.
- 1:17:41Up I have to show you. It's crazy but she uncovered
- 1:17:43this whole like. That's a conspiracy.
- 1:17:44You know what? Yeah.
- 1:17:45I'm going to have to hire your friend.
- 1:17:46I have some investigations I need to get into as well.
- 1:17:49She said you're evolved. Loved your answer.
- 1:17:51Good advice. We have another one.
- 1:17:53So I hate my boyfriend's friends and they hate how he is when
- 1:17:55he's with them. What should I do?
- 1:17:58Tell them? Tell your boyfriend to drop his
- 1:18:01friends. I don't.
- 1:18:02I feel like that's logical now. I feel like I've maybe not been
- 1:18:05in this situation, but I know exactly what you're going
- 1:18:08through. Like I know exactly.
- 1:18:09I can totally see it and like it's a fine line because I guess
- 1:18:13you have to see when your boyfriend is with you.
- 1:18:15Like is he his true self? I mean, most likely he is
- 1:18:17because guys really have like people to talk to about their
- 1:18:19feelings. They're hardly just hang out
- 1:18:20with. So like, I don't know, it's so
- 1:18:24difficult though, because at the same time it's like he should be
- 1:18:26like man enough to be like to not feel like he has to like
- 1:18:28change his personality or like, you know, joke about things that
- 1:18:31are, you know, like if they're making fun of women or saying
- 1:18:33things bad, like kind of like with the Bros.
- 1:18:35I hate that shit. So it's kind of like a fine line
- 1:18:37between like, is he just like hanging with the Bros or is he
- 1:18:40like hiding who he really is or like not calling them out if
- 1:18:44they're doing dumb stuff or like saying rude things about women.
- 1:18:47I don't know. I guess it's something where
- 1:18:48like maybe the next time that you're around them, like kind of
- 1:18:51see the vibe because, you know, the truth is you are.
- 1:18:55I can tell more about you by the people you hang out with and
- 1:18:58than you because you can mask anything.
- 1:19:00People present themselves as whoever they want to be, right?
- 1:19:03But my mom has always said this. I'm sure many of our parents
- 1:19:07also said this. You can tell.
- 1:19:09Me, your friends, and I'll tell you your future.
- 1:19:11And so, you know, if he's around all these guys, even if when
- 1:19:14he's with you, that could be because he's with you and you
- 1:19:16are able to, you know, bring that side out of out of him.
- 1:19:18But if he if he has all these guy friends that are kind of,
- 1:19:20you know, a certain way, what makes you think that he's going
- 1:19:24to be different than them? Totally.
- 1:19:26Yeah. He should just get rid of them,
- 1:19:27honestly. Yeah, totally.
- 1:19:29Oh my God, I agree with you. Get rid of them, OK?
- 1:19:32So I really goodbye. You just got them off.
- 1:19:34Yeah. And then if anything, too,
- 1:19:35sometimes you have to, like, have that for them change.
- 1:19:37Like, you know, sometimes people need to mature and it's better
- 1:19:42to just, like, close the door now.
- 1:19:44Yeah, if there's a possibility, it will be something in the
- 1:19:47future. OK, I think fair, very mature
- 1:19:50answers by the way. OK, we have one more.
- 1:19:52So I really like this person but they live out of state and I'm
- 1:19:54not sure if I want to do a long distance relationship.
- 1:19:57I think long distance, I've never been in a long distance
- 1:20:00relationship, but I think it works if there's a time, if it's
- 1:20:02a finite or yeah, finite. So like it has to be for a
- 1:20:05reason. Like, yeah, only go into it if
- 1:20:08it's like, OK, I'm in this school program or I'm in this
- 1:20:11job, but in two years I know I'm going to be moving to this
- 1:20:13place. Like it has to have some sort of
- 1:20:15plan it you can't go into it like but.
- 1:20:16You would wait for them. Oh.
- 1:20:20Well, like, not really, but like I also wouldn't get into a like,
- 1:20:23I don't know, like I'd be like more people need to bring back
- 1:20:26like dating to get married. Like it doesn't mean you're
- 1:20:27going to get married right away, but it's like with the intention
- 1:20:29of like you either break up or you get married.
- 1:20:31So it's like just dating for fun.
- 1:20:32Don't you have to end it then? Why would you want to be in a
- 1:20:33long distance relationship if you can't see them?
- 1:20:35You're talking to someone on the phone?
- 1:20:36Talk to. Chat I don't think date I I'm
- 1:20:39not a subscriber to the idea of like dating to get married.
- 1:20:41Well, I like like love the idea of being married or whatever.
- 1:20:43I also think it's like you learn so much from someone, you get an
- 1:20:46experience from someone you can write about.
- 1:20:47Them Yeah, I need to get data like dating.
- 1:20:49The real word of dating is data. OK, it's like know what you do
- 1:20:52and don't like? Yeah, totally.
- 1:20:54Right. Right, Right.
- 1:20:54Right, right, right, right. So you know, like, Oh my gosh, I
- 1:20:56definitely don't want somebody like that or like, you know, I
- 1:20:59don't want to produce her. That's what you would say.
- 1:21:02Like that would be like your data you've got, you've got her.
- 1:21:04Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. You know that should be your
- 1:21:16counselor. Bitch, you saw out of pocket.
- 1:21:21See, that's the thing. I'm like, I've like just studied
- 1:21:22a lot. Like I've had a lot of friends.
- 1:21:23Like a lot of my friends are significantly older than me.
- 1:21:25Like they have, they're married with like children or and vice
- 1:21:28versa where I feel like I've been in this place where I've
- 1:21:30like, it's weird because I feel like I'm like the youngest, but
- 1:21:34I'm also like the oldest to certain friends.
- 1:21:36So it's like a weird balance where you feel like you're like,
- 1:21:38Oh my gosh, I'm like the mom to some friends.
- 1:21:39And I'm also like, wow, I'm learning from like my other
- 1:21:41friends, which is good. I feel like everyone needs to
- 1:21:43have older friends or you know, cousins, family members like
- 1:21:47that can kind of mentor you because, you know, I think it's
- 1:21:49important to like, yes, you have your friends around your age,
- 1:21:51but you need to get wisdom. I love like asking, you know,
- 1:21:55people older than me, because learning from people learning,
- 1:21:58yes, I love learning because there's like AI don't know what
- 1:22:01it I think it's a verse from Proverbs, but it's saying how
- 1:22:03like, you know, foolish people learn from their own mistakes,
- 1:22:06but wise people learn from the mistakes of fools.
- 1:22:09You can learn a lot by yes, you're still going to have to
- 1:22:12go. To the.
- 1:22:12But you can save a lot of time and energy because like, you
- 1:22:16know, I, I also think like, you know, you'll know if something
- 1:22:20is right and if something is worth pursuing, if there is that
- 1:22:23connection, you'll know. But don't just date because
- 1:22:26you're bored, because you have all of these talents and gifts
- 1:22:28and business ideas that you may not even realize it.
- 1:22:31But if you have this free time instead of, you know, working on
- 1:22:33your second business or working on your album or working on your
- 1:22:36project, you're going to be spending it with them, which is
- 1:22:37fair. But, you know, don't, don't give
- 1:22:41up your dreams or your goals for a guy, I would say, or like, you
- 1:22:45know, just to date out of boredom.
- 1:22:47Like, I don't know, I just feels like I see a lot of people just
- 1:22:51like get into a relationship and kind of do the thing that's
- 1:22:54normal of them. Like, OK, we're going to get
- 1:22:55married now, we're going to buy a house.
- 1:22:56But it's like, don't be afraid to like, go travel.
- 1:22:59Like go see what you really want to do.
- 1:23:00Like, you may not know yourself yet.
- 1:23:02You have to know yourself before getting into a relationship.
- 1:23:04We have to collect the data for it.
- 1:23:06For what you like, you know, like, and then other people,
- 1:23:09because ultimately it's like you're not looking for somebody
- 1:23:11to complete you. Like that's not fair.
- 1:23:13Nobody can complete you. And that person should not be
- 1:23:15your only source of happiness because that's insane to put on
- 1:23:17a person. Totally.
- 1:23:19But it should be like you guys are going to the same direction
- 1:23:22together. You're walking in alignment
- 1:23:24together and. Encouraging each other.
- 1:23:25I'm a big fan of growing with your person.
- 1:23:27Yes, I love that. And I also think it's important
- 1:23:29that it's also taking, I don't have to say this, not defining
- 1:23:34it in a way where it's like you putting pressure on it.
- 1:23:36You're my entire world, right? Yeah.
- 1:23:38No, it's like you compliment. It's like the balloon and the
- 1:23:40rock. Like I was saying, you
- 1:23:41complement each other in your own.
- 1:23:43I think I'm adding all of this to my personal data that I'm
- 1:23:46collecting so. OK.
- 1:23:47I love that. Thank you.
- 1:23:49Well Lily, this has been incredibly cinematic and we
- 1:23:52close out every show by manifesting together.
- 1:23:54Is there anything you want to speak into existence from
- 1:23:56Manifest right now here on the Lulu?
- 1:23:59Well, I would love to play Coachella sometime soon.
- 1:24:02I mean, I'm. I'm sure I probably will.
- 1:24:03You are. I would love to open for
- 1:24:05somebody on tour. And I just know I am because,
- 1:24:07you know, I love playing shows everywhere.
- 1:24:09Yeah. And.
- 1:24:10When you open for grants, he's about.
- 1:24:12To go on tour, I can't wait. Text Grant.
- 1:24:14Yeah, you can hit up his manager.
- 1:24:16He's a manager, I think. So maybe I don't know, but I
- 1:24:19just can't wait to go on tour. I just know it's going to end up
- 1:24:22being the right fit. But in the meantime, it's like
- 1:24:24because I believe that's like okay manifesting people think I
- 1:24:27just like say things I want and do it.
- 1:24:28No, the reason why it works is because you are identifying your
- 1:24:32goals. Did you know if you write down
- 1:24:33your goals like in your journal that you're going to start
- 1:24:35having like Ryan and I do? If you write down your goals in
- 1:24:38your journal, you're like 3 times more likely to achieve
- 1:24:40them because when you write them down, you will subconsciously
- 1:24:43take action and take steps to achieve that.
- 1:24:46So like me, it's like people are like, when is your tour?
- 1:24:48I always say like I'm getting, I'm preparing to go on tour.
- 1:24:50Like when are you touring? I'm like soon.
- 1:24:52I just don't have the date yet. But I train every day.
- 1:24:54You got to train my voice every day.
- 1:24:55I started running. Yeah, you have to prepare and
- 1:24:58get ready for that. Yeah.
- 1:24:59Because it's only crazy until it.
- 1:25:01Period. I know that's right.
- 1:25:03Anything else you're manifesting?
- 1:25:06I don't just excitement, I'm writing.
- 1:25:08You're so excited. I've started to write #2 I feel
- 1:25:10like I'm healed from the past. Maybe some new love interest,
- 1:25:13some new characters For almost at Season 2 for album 2.
- 1:25:16Yeah, no producers. You know, just, I feel like
- 1:25:20dating a producer would be so hard, at least for me in music,
- 1:25:21because I'm like, that's my safe space.
- 1:25:23It's like writing, making a song.
- 1:25:24I need it to be like neutral. Like my producers are often
- 1:25:26times like they're all married. And so I love it because they're
- 1:25:28like, Oh my God, that guy's a loser.
- 1:25:30And they're like, give me guy advice.
- 1:25:31Like from a guy perspective. Yeah, that's.
- 1:25:33Awesome. But yeah, I would just say, you
- 1:25:35know, being bold and who I am and just.
- 1:25:39I feel like you're really doing all of that though.
- 1:25:40And it will all happen. It will all happen at it's right
- 1:25:42time. But it's like being prepared
- 1:25:43because like luck is when preparation meets opportunity.
- 1:25:46And so it's even us. It's like, OK, we've been
- 1:25:48friends for a long time and then we just happen to see each
- 1:25:50other. You happen to be shooting to
- 1:25:53your podcast? I happen to be.
- 1:25:55They get ready. To happen to be in LA, like
- 1:25:56that's what I'm saying like, but we were prepared.
- 1:25:58Yeah, and look at us, we're lucky.
- 1:26:02I love that. I'm manifesting all that for you
- 1:26:03as well. I'm super excited.
- 1:26:04When you see our Coachella and everything, and obviously this
- 1:26:06album is incredible. And the fact that you're even
- 1:26:08thinking about working on album 2 right now, yeah, we're super
- 1:26:10excited. Keep us.
- 1:26:11Back, Keep us back. Yeah.
- 1:26:12And I have new things to say. Like, you know, it's like.
- 1:26:15And you've been living with this album for so long too, yes?
- 1:26:18It has been and like, I love, I always say like it's easier for
- 1:26:22me to dive into the creative process and like really dive
- 1:26:24into something, yeah, before moving on.
- 1:26:25But now I'm like, Oh my gosh, it's it's kind of scary when
- 1:26:28you're starting something new, whether it be a relationship, a
- 1:26:30project, career. Like I'm like, I don't know what
- 1:26:33album 2 could sound like. I don't know the theme, but it's
- 1:26:35fun. But that's so exciting.
- 1:26:36No, but yeah. And then when it's finished,
- 1:26:38we're gonna pull this up and gonna be like, this is the start
- 1:26:41of it, where you're like, yeah. Is that crazy?
- 1:26:44Yeah. But you.
- 1:26:44Gotta live life and then start writing it.
- 1:26:46Yes, but I'm excited to sit with cinematic because I feel like, I
- 1:26:49don't know, I feel like it's gonna bring up feelings,
- 1:26:52experiences. I'm sure I'll sure.
- 1:26:54I'm sure I'll have. People reaching out, thinking
- 1:26:55about them. Mr. Hollywood will spin the
- 1:26:57block again, I'm sure people. Don't always think like songs
- 1:26:59about them. And I'm like, no, this is not
- 1:27:00about. You yeah.
- 1:27:02Fuck that's crazy. Love that.
- 1:27:04Humble their asses. Yeah, it's more of like a
- 1:27:08unfortunately like I don't feel anything for you.
- 1:27:10OK. Quick question.
- 1:27:12So you mentioned a couple weeks ago that you don't cuss anymore.
- 1:27:15Yeah. So why I'm?
- 1:27:17Just because I'm trying to be more classy.
- 1:27:19Totally classy girl. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.
- 1:27:22Love that. Wait, it's hell cussing to you,
- 1:27:24huh? No.
- 1:27:25OK. Because that's in a lot of your.
- 1:27:26Because I realize like I guess it'd be like things that are
- 1:27:30that would classify as like explicit.
- 1:27:32So then you have to put an explicit things when you have to
- 1:27:33report 2 versions, mainly because two, it's like, I've, I
- 1:27:37identified this. Like I started listening to
- 1:27:39Taylor Swift and, you know, when I was really young, like
- 1:27:41probably like 10 or 11. And I like talk to a lot of
- 1:27:43people whose young daughters want to listen to music, but
- 1:27:45they're like a lot of the music these days is explicit and they
- 1:27:48need, they want somebody where they could put it on and off to
- 1:27:49worry about, Oh, they're going to say the F word.
- 1:27:51Are they going to say something? So like in my music, I'm like,
- 1:27:53unless it's really intentional, like, you know, when it's called
- 1:27:56for, I think so. But when it's like, but when
- 1:27:59it's done too much where it's like, OK, you're just doing this
- 1:28:01like to get a reaction out of people.
