Transcript
- 0:00Labubu dolls, despite what some might consider an off-putting albeit harmless appearance,
- 0:07have become the subject of online stories and theories suggesting they are just playing
- 0:13creepy, haunted or demonic or otherwise evil.
- 0:17Of course they are.
- 0:19Or they are Chinese spies.
- 0:23Oh actually that's a thing.
- 0:25Put your tin foil hat on.
- 0:27Yeah.
- 0:31These narratives often portray the dolls as having a dark or evil side.
- 0:39Hi Chris.
- 0:40Hi Caitlin.
- 0:41Hi creepy people.
- 0:43Hello.
- 0:44Hello.
- 0:45Did I do it right?
- 0:48Yeah.
- 0:49Okay.
- 0:50Excellent so far.
- 0:53So this is PNW Haunts and Homicides where we chat about true crime, the paranormal and all
- 0:59things spooky in the Pacific Northwest, the PNW if you're nasty.
- 1:05I like that.
- 1:07Yeah.
- 1:08Cassie's going to be so proud of me if I ever forget to say PNW if you're nasty she really
- 1:14gets after me.
- 1:16Why?
- 1:17Because she loves it.
- 1:18Oh okay right.
- 1:20It is pretty great.
- 1:21Yeah.
- 1:22I never forget that.
- 1:23No.
- 1:24It's critical stuff.
- 1:25I'm kind of nervous.
- 1:27No I mean that it's very on brand.
- 1:31So I mean I've been here once.
- 1:33Yeah.
- 1:34And I've been invited again graciously.
- 1:36Yeah.
- 1:37I'm very happy about that.
- 1:39Well your previous performance I think the reviews were really excellent.
- 1:44So really?
- 1:46Yeah.
- 1:47Yeah.
- 1:48Who reviewed me?
- 1:49Just the people.
- 1:50Or is this your guys' reviews?
- 1:53I mean I would say all of the above.
- 1:55But yeah I did have actually several people that reached out and either commented on you
- 2:01know post that we did about the episode or that DM their emailed directly and said that
- 2:07was really cool.
- 2:08Like you have to have them back.
- 2:09That's like okay.
- 2:11Why didn't you tell me about this?
- 2:14I definitely.
- 2:15It's been so long.
- 2:16I definitely have.
- 2:18Yeah.
- 2:20No I'm sure you did tell me.
- 2:21And I you know I don't want to get a bloated head about it.
- 2:25Yeah.
- 2:26Yeah.
- 2:27Just you know you're trying to stay humble.
- 2:28I get that.
- 2:29Exactly.
- 2:30Yeah.
- 2:31So what are we doing today?
- 2:34I have a few stories to tell you.
- 2:36This is sort of a it's a little bit different type of episode.
- 2:40And part of it was designed to really get into Cassie's psyche really throw her off.
- 2:47And I'm going to see if it maybe it'll work for the two of us still.
- 2:51Oh okay.
- 2:52So you're going to torture me a little bit.
- 2:54Oh I don't know that I would say torture.
- 2:56I don't feel like that's totally accurate but yeah.
- 2:59We'll have some fun with it.
- 3:01Okay.
- 3:02Are you promised?
- 3:03Yeah.
- 3:04I do.
- 3:05Okay.
- 3:06Well let's get into some unsettling first hand accounts.
- 3:09People have shared online.
- 3:11Wonderful.
- 3:12Yeah.
- 3:19If she's upset about it she's not here to defend herself.
- 3:22So.
- 3:23Oh yeah.
- 3:24Our first story comes from a Reddit user who swears their friend's doll set off a chain
- 3:32of unsettling events.
- 3:35Spooky.
- 3:36Spooky.
- 3:37Wait are you.
- 3:39Is this Cassie's episode or is this your episode?
- 3:42This is my episode.
- 3:43I told you I'm stealing a little bit from her genre.
- 3:46I get it.
- 3:47I get it.
- 3:48I'm dip in a toe and I know it's confusing.
- 3:53My friend's doll is haunted.
- 3:55My friend posted from her perspective and I were having a day out in town yesterday.
- 4:01We walked past a shop and she saw these dolls in the window.
- 4:06She was dying to get one.
- 4:09And I just kept going on about how scary they look and how ugly they are.
- 4:16Dolls are creepy.
- 4:17Dolls are creepy.
- 4:18Listen, it's a long standing belief.
- 4:22Have you seen my mom's dolls?
- 4:25Like all the dolls she has, all those porcelain ones.
- 4:28No.
- 4:29She just has them tucked away in the closet.
- 4:30I assumed that's why I don't go upstairs.
- 4:33I thought you guys were just trying to protect me.
- 4:35Take a peek in that closet and you'll scream.
- 4:37I think I'm good.
- 4:41Anyways, she bought one and we unboxed it at dinner.
- 4:46She got the one she wanted.
- 4:47We laughed about it and then just focused on her meal.
- 4:51Anyways, we get back to her house, middle of nowhere, surrounded by dense trees and forests
- 4:56and go to her room.
- 4:58We were in the middle of ten things I hate about you when she suddenly gets the idea to
- 5:04decorate it.
- 5:06Which, this story really makes me want to watch ten things I hate about you again.
- 5:10It's a good movie.
- 5:11Yeah.
- 5:12Although, if it's a precursor at all to the rest of the story, I think maybe I'll skip it.
- 5:19I mean, they put it in there.
- 5:20Does it have something to do with it?
- 5:22I feel like it's a valid question, right?
- 5:24It's very important to the story.
- 5:27Yeah, it's at least fair to ask.
- 5:30So she gives it false lashes, eyeliner, sparkly lips and cheeks, ear cuffs and a chain necklace.
- 5:38Wow.
- 5:39Okay.
- 5:40So they're really going ham on this doll.
- 5:41All out.
- 5:42Wow.
- 5:43We just find it purely funny at this point and don't know what to do with the horrendous
- 5:47looking thing now.
- 5:48So she decides to clip it to her light shade.
- 5:51That's a choice.
- 5:52It's a yeah.
- 5:53Yeah.
- 5:54That's so funny.
- 5:55It's literally my exact words.
- 5:59I know.
- 6:00We speak the same a little bit.
- 6:02Yeah, we do.
- 6:03Sandwich.
- 6:05A while later, we decide to go out to smoke and watch the sunset.
- 6:09Bearing in mind, we are home alone and left the house at 11 pm.
- 6:13We go into this field by the woods.
- 6:15It's next to our house.
- 6:17We smoke or whatever and start heading back to our house at about 11.45.
- 6:23Her dogs, two spaniels, one with it were with us and kind of had free room around the
- 6:28field we were in and in the field, she keeps her two horses in.
- 6:33Okay.
- 6:34So she's a horse girl.
- 6:35So I don't know.
- 6:36Just, you know, make an a mental note of that.
- 6:37Sure.
- 6:38Yeah.
- 6:39Her youngest manual was running through the horse field chasing something.
- 6:43At first, we thought it was a big rabbit because from afar, it looked like it was.
- 6:48But then I heard a different bark, not like a dog.
- 6:52It was actually kind of terrifying.
- 6:54That's when I first paused and thought that's definitely not a rabbit.
- 6:59Anyways, it got closer and it was a badger.
- 7:02Those things are scary.
- 7:05They're like very, they're vicious.
- 7:08They're tough little critters.
- 7:09Yeah.
- 7:10I got a badger hunter over here.
- 7:13Liniage.
- 7:15Yeah.
- 7:16Yeah.
- 7:17Yeah.
- 7:18I feel like Molly, the instinct would still be there.
- 7:20She'd be, you know, must have blood of badger.
- 7:24Oh, yeah.
- 7:25But I think given her stature and her lack of training, I feel like she may struggle.
- 7:31Yeah.
- 7:32Definitely.
- 7:33I don't think I'm ready to test that out.
- 7:36It's in blood only, not in practice.
- 7:39Yeah.
- 7:40I've never seen one before, but I hate these things.
- 7:44Her dog was chasing it, kind of attacking it, but it was running towards us until her
- 7:49dog chased it under a fence and into the woods.
- 7:53After a while of screaming for her dogs to come back, we were going to go through the horse
- 7:57field to get back to hers as it was the quickest way.
- 8:01Her horse then tries to jump on her other dog and almost killed the thing.
- 8:06Okay, so we got a lot of really wild animal activity here.
- 8:10Yeah.
- 8:11So by this point, we were very shaken up.
- 8:13Like this stuff never happens to us at all.
- 8:16Rather than going through the horse field, we climb into a different field and go around
- 8:20it.
- 8:21Looked and started rolling and pying at their faces.
- 8:24So we assumed it was a nettle.
- 8:27Hmm.
- 8:28Ah, wasps nest.
- 8:30Oh, okay.
- 8:31Oh, fuck.
- 8:32A wasp landed on my friend so I tried to swatted away, but it ended up going into her jumper.
- 8:38Whoops.
- 8:39Yeah, not great.
- 8:42She's deathly allergic.
- 8:44Really?
- 8:45Yeah.
- 8:46Well, that's not safe.
- 8:47No.
- 8:48No.
- 8:49So she was on the brink of tears by the time we got back, we were both genuinely so freaked
- 8:54out.
- 8:55On it, like on the brink of tears, I would be hysterically sobbing.
- 8:58You would.
- 8:59Yeah.
- 9:00Thanks for backing me up.
- 9:02We get to her room.
- 9:04She uses her phone torch and the fricking doll is just dangling and looking at us.
- 9:10We forgot it was even there, to be honest.
- 9:13Anyway, we think nothing of it other than the fact that it still looks creepy as hell.
- 9:18We go to turn her TV on to finish the movie, but it's not working.
- 9:22It was unplugged at the wall.
- 9:24Okay.
- 9:25Which obviously she says we never did that before we left.
- 9:29So then she plugs it back in.
- 9:31Still not working.
- 9:33We check the back of the TV and the whole cable connecting it to the wall has been taken
- 9:37out.
- 9:38Wow.
- 9:39I didn't even think they...
- 9:43How?
- 9:44How?
- 9:45Okay.
- 9:46Her TV is...
- 9:48The doll.
- 9:49I mean, I feel like that's the insinuation already, but her TV is like airtight against the wall.
- 9:56You need long tweezers or something to take the cable out and put it back in.
- 10:00Oh, God.
- 10:01Okay.
- 10:02So yeah, they're saying like literally how is this physically possible?
- 10:06Right.
- 10:07Okay.
- 10:08Again, we were home alone.
- 10:09The house was empty the whole time we were out.
- 10:12What was the only other thing here?
- 10:14I think you called it.
- 10:16She says the doll.
- 10:17Mm-hmm.
- 10:18Okay.
- 10:19I swear these things are actually haunted because neither of us did it.
- 10:23We remember vividly leaving everything on before we left.
- 10:27Bad stuff like this has never happened until she got that freaky little doll.
- 10:32I'm convinced they're demonic/haunted.
- 10:35Okay.
- 10:36That's holy shit.
- 10:38Yikes.
- 10:39Oh, gosh.
- 10:40Freaked out by your own story.
- 10:43Well, someone else's story.
- 10:44Yeah.
- 10:45You know how I feel about dolls, which makes it very confusing that this is what I chose to
- 10:52do.
- 10:54I thought I would be sort of at least torturing Cassie along with me.
- 10:57I guess if that was--
- 10:58No, she would love this.
- 11:00Yeah.
- 11:01All right.
- 11:02In another post from the same subreddit, a different user shares and equally unnerving experience
- 11:09after bringing a doll home.
- 11:12And it's her friend.
- 11:13So this is the other friend's perspective.
- 11:15Oh, okay.
- 11:16Trishin.
- 11:17Trishin.
- 11:18I was like, thank goodness that we can find both of their accounts.
- 11:22Right.
- 11:23You know?
- 11:24So it all started yesterday when I was walking through my town and spotted dolls in a local
- 11:30shop.
- 11:31I decided to get one as a joke and see which one I would get just for the giggles.
- 11:37I opened the package with my friend while still in town and got the one I wanted and we
- 11:42had a laugh, et cetera.
- 11:44No, real quickly, presumably, do these two posters do they know that the other posted?
- 11:52I think maybe not when they first posted, but then they probably--
- 11:58Oh, yeah, I posted about it.
- 12:00Right.
- 12:01So, yeah, I think that's interesting.
- 12:04I would be interested to go back and kind of look at the timestamps and be like, who
- 12:08posted first?
- 12:09Yeah.
- 12:10Fast forward to later, we both come back to my house and I decided to decorate the doll.
- 12:17And did she ever?
- 12:19This involves super gluing eyelashes, earrings, glitter lips, and dripping her out with chains.
- 12:26Oh, my God.
- 12:27This is such a makeover.
- 12:29Yeah.
- 12:30Wow, that is so genzy.
- 12:32Gotta give it that glow up.
- 12:35Yeah.
- 12:36That drip.
- 12:37A couple hours later, we decided to go out and smoke.
- 12:41So I hang this doll off my ceiling light to dry and we go outside.
- 12:46For context, I live in the middle of the woods with a lot of fields around.
- 12:51So we go out into a field, smoke, start walking back, and lo and behold, we see my dog chasing
- 12:57a badger right towards us.
- 13:00My dog is much faster than the badger bear in mind.
- 13:03So me and my friends scream and run away whilst I'm screaming at my dog because I don't want
- 13:08him to be mauled by a badger.
- 13:10Of course.
- 13:11A fair.
- 13:12We go into my field and then my horse tries to kill my other dog, like stomping and trying
- 13:18to bite her, etc.
- 13:20So we leave the field and walk down the side of the field next to it to get back to my
- 13:25house.
- 13:26We reach the end of the path about to jump the fence when two of my dogs stick their
- 13:30noses in the ground and start crying and wiping their faces on the ground.
- 13:36I think, "Oh, it's just some nettles, they'll be fine."
- 13:39But no, wasp nest.
- 13:42A wasp proceeds to fly into my hair.
- 13:44I scream, it leaves, flies into my jumper.
- 13:48I take my jumper off, we run inside.
- 13:51Both of us are shaking and close to tears at this point.
- 13:55But it's not over yet.
- 13:56We go to my room, sit down, turn the TV on, nothing.
- 14:01I check.
- 14:02It's unplugged at the wall.
- 14:04Why?
- 14:05I don't like it.
- 14:07What's going on over there?
- 14:08Are you having an issue?
- 14:09No, no.
- 14:10I thought I knew what nettles were.
- 14:14Oh, were you trying to look at them on?
- 14:16Right.
- 14:17And I was looking it up.
- 14:18And I did know what they were.
- 14:19It's a type of plant.
- 14:21Yeah, yeah.
- 14:22With, you know, spiky little edges.
- 14:25They're kind of gnarly.
- 14:27Yeah.
- 14:28And so I was just curious.
- 14:30Yeah.
- 14:31So she's checked the wall.
- 14:32It's unplugged.
- 14:33I don't like that.
- 14:35I have never done that once in the eight years that I have lived here.
- 14:40I plug it in, still not working.
- 14:42I check the power cable in the TV.
- 14:45It is unplugged.
- 14:47What?
- 14:48She says what?
- 14:51And this is a very hard to reach cable because I have to use tweezers to reach it and put it
- 14:56back in.
- 14:57Look at this.
- 14:58We were home alone.
- 15:01Yes.
- 15:02Fast forward.
- 15:06I give the doll to my brother.
- 15:08It sleeps in the hallway, etc.
- 15:10But we are now thinking of either burning it or performing a ritual on it.
- 15:15This was absolutely insane.
- 15:17I regret ever buying that creepy ass doll.
- 15:20Give it to someone you hate.
- 15:22Right.
- 15:24Or send it to one of the creepy doll museums.
- 15:27Okay.
- 15:28Yeah.
- 15:29Wow.
- 15:30What a night they had.
- 15:31I know.
- 15:32Okay.
- 15:33Well, now we're going to actually read some stories that come from elsewhere.
- 15:37We've got some new characters.
- 15:40Over on our slash scary stories, one post to recounts, a haunting that seemed to change
- 15:47the mood of an entire household.
- 15:50Hey, everyone.
- 15:51I wanted to share a creepy experience that happened recently at my uncle's house.
- 15:56And it's all linked to this viral doll trend.
- 16:00So here's what went down.
- 16:02My uncle has two kids.
- 16:04And a few weeks ago, my aunt had to travel abroad for an office tour.
- 16:09That left my uncle alone to manage the kids.
- 16:12As you can imagine, two little ones can be a handful.
- 16:16One day, after seeing all the hype about the doll online, the kids got super stubborn about
- 16:21wanting one to avoid further tantrums.
- 16:25My uncle gave in and bought them a doll.
- 16:28Things were fine for a day.
- 16:31One day.
- 16:32Yeah.
- 16:33The night after my aunt returned from her trip, she heard something disturbing, a woman crying
- 16:39somewhere in the house.
- 16:41She checked every room, but there was no one and nothing unusual.
- 16:46She ignored it, thinking it might just be her imagination or jet lag.
- 16:50I feel like-
- 16:51Why is it an imagination?
- 16:52I know.
- 16:53I'm like, "Girl, if you think that's your imagination?"
- 16:56I don't know.
- 16:58Maybe you need to talk to someone.
- 17:00She's just trying to rationalize it.
- 17:01I can respect that.
- 17:03Yeah.
- 17:04I can respect that.
- 17:05I don't understand it.
- 17:08And as far as jet lag, I don't think that I've ever been that tired.
- 17:12I don't.
- 17:13How are you ever going to fall asleep after you've heard a phantom woman crying in your
- 17:18house?
- 17:19Sometimes people just get that sleepy.
- 17:22I can't.
- 17:25You can fall asleep anywhere.
- 17:26So I'm probably embarking on the wrong trip.
- 17:28I already took a nap earlier today.
- 17:31And it's not.
- 17:32It's only 3.30 right now.
- 17:36But then the next night, same thing.
- 17:39She played it night, she heard the sound of a woman softly weeping.
- 17:44Again, nothing was found.
- 17:45On the third night, it happened again.
- 17:48This time, she woke up my uncle and told him everything.
- 17:51To her surprise, he said, "You've been hearing this for three nights and didn't wake me before."
- 17:57I was just going to say.
- 17:58Yeah.
- 17:59I would tell you on the first time I heard it.
- 18:01Did you hear that?
- 18:02Yeah.
- 18:03Can you imagine?
- 18:04Yeah.
- 18:05I guess, if you're waking up in the middle of the night, maybe the courteous thing to do is
- 18:10not wake up your partner if there's no immediate danger.
- 18:14Yeah, who cares?
- 18:15I would not be convinced I was not in immediate danger.
- 18:20I'd be waking you'll ask.
- 18:22You have.
- 18:23You've done it before.
- 18:25Yeah.
- 18:26Well, we've had several instances where we both wake up because we've heard a noise or
- 18:32we've both woken up randomly.
- 18:33And then, why are we both suddenly awake at the very same time?
- 18:38Right.
- 18:39I remember the times that it has happened.
- 18:42I don't remember what I heard.
- 18:44I just know something woke me up.
- 18:46Yeah.
- 18:47And then, danger, danger.
- 18:49Yeah.
- 18:50Yeah.
- 18:51And then, I immediately investigate.
- 18:54He then paused and added, "Maybe it's that doll."
- 18:58I feel like that's kind of a show.
- 19:00Well, he just went straight to that.
- 19:02Yeah.
- 19:03You know, it's interesting because I'm like, listen, I already have established for myself
- 19:09that dolls are up to no good.
- 19:11But I just didn't realize that so many of these people would be with me on this.
- 19:16Yeah.
- 19:17So, I mean, it does feel, I feel a little bit vindicated.
- 19:20Sure.
- 19:21Yeah.
- 19:22Turns out, he had come across some strange articles online saying that certain dolls are
- 19:29believed to be cursed or demonic.
- 19:32That same night, my uncle didn't take any chances.
- 19:35He got up, took the doll and threw it far away from the house.
- 19:40Good for him.
- 19:41Yeah.
- 19:42That's, I mean, that's a dad.
- 19:43That is a dad and like, you got to do that.
- 19:48That's for me.
- 19:49I would just, you know, I would say, I'd be skeptical.
- 19:52I mean, come on.
- 19:53It's a doll.
- 19:54But wait.
- 19:55What's a doll going to do?
- 19:56A doll doesn't, but he, and I agree with that move.
- 20:02He's just like, whatever.
- 20:03Let's just get rid of it.
- 20:05Let's get it out of here.
- 20:07Did that fix it?
- 20:10I think based on the next sentence, I'm going with no.
- 20:15Okay.
- 20:16I'm going to go with no.
- 20:18I feel confident in the no.
- 20:21Here's where things get even weirder.
- 20:24For the past few days, the kids had been behaving oddly.
- 20:29They were super cranky, refused to go to school, even their favorite classes.
- 20:35And we're always upset for no reason.
- 20:38But the very next morning, after the doll was thrown away, it was like a cloud had lifted.
- 20:45The kids woke up smiling full of energy, no mention of the doll at all.
- 20:50It was like they didn't even remember it.
- 20:54The whole vibe of the house changed, peaceful, cheerful, and light.
- 20:59We still don't know what exactly was going on, but one thing is clear.
- 21:04That doll wasn't just a toy.
- 21:07Anyone else experienced anything strange with these dolls?
- 21:11That was some bad jeez-jee.
- 21:13Yeah.
- 21:14That's what I'm saying.
- 21:15I'm like, okay.
- 21:16So like, what are these dolls that people, like, okay, I want to know what doll, I'm not
- 21:21playing any dolls just to be clear, but what are these dolls?
- 21:25Because I want to like, stay far, far, far away.
- 21:28No, let's get one.
- 21:29Let's find out.
- 21:30It's funny you should say that.
- 21:32I think I might have a lead.
- 21:34So I don't know.
- 21:35No, but we'll.
- 21:36Maybe we'll explore that.
- 21:38I was just joking.
- 21:39I know.
- 21:40I don't want that in my home.
- 21:45I know.
- 21:46That's like house rules here.
- 21:49And then there are the quick real world encounters like this one from a fan who got an unexpected
- 21:56warning from a stranger.
- 21:58And this one is kind of odd.
- 22:01All of these are odd.
- 22:04But I think that this one is kind of like what the hell.
- 22:09Hmm.
- 22:10It really, I had to go back and reread it.
- 22:13It's very short.
- 22:15Today I went to a store with my doll on my bag and as I was checking out, one of the workers
- 22:21came up to me and said, you know those things are really cute.
- 22:25But if you knew what they stood for, you'd no longer want it.
- 22:30And then followed by telling me it was a demon.
- 22:33Really?
- 22:34Yeah.
- 22:35Seems kind of intense.
- 22:38I already have so many questions.
- 22:40Go on, please.
- 22:41Okay, good.
- 22:43I've seen discourse on TikTok about dolls being demonic, but never thought people took
- 22:50that serious enough to approach strangers, which is like, I don't think I take anything
- 22:55seriously enough to approach strangers.
- 22:58People have opinions.
- 22:59Yeah.
- 23:00I just, they got all at the world now.
- 23:03Yeah.
- 23:04Yeah.
- 23:05Absolutely.
- 23:06I know beach to Sandy wouldn't exist if they didn't.
- 23:10I just wanted to share because I thought it was weird and was wondering if anyone else
- 23:15has had a similar experience.
- 23:17Nope.
- 23:18I have not.
- 23:19You haven't?
- 23:20Because I don't carry dolls on my backpack.
- 23:22Oh.
- 23:23Maybe I should.
- 23:24But now I've learned that they represent demons.
- 23:28So now I won't.
- 23:29Yeah, I feel like it's a tough situation here.
- 23:35You may have pieced together by now that we're not talking about just any doll.
- 23:40Is that fair to say?
- 23:41Yeah, I mean, this is not a child's play thing.
- 23:46I mean, arguably, I mean, they're supposed to be.
- 23:51I don't.
- 23:52Okay.
- 23:53So you should have some links popping up here.
- 23:55We gulped it.
- 23:56Oh, it's hard to find a good one that like gives you a whole leadership.
- 24:01This is crazy.
- 24:02What?
- 24:03What?
- 24:04Okay.
- 24:05So you sent me this link for Labubu.
- 24:09I don't know what this is, but I see a photo of Labubu the monsters.
- 24:17Yeah.
- 24:18Okay.
- 24:19I've never seen this up until yesterday.
- 24:23Really?
- 24:24Up until yesterday I saw this.
- 24:25You know where I saw this?
- 24:27Where?
- 24:28I went to the duck's game at Austin Stadium.
- 24:30Yeah.
- 24:31Somebody had one on their bag, didn't they?
- 24:32No.
- 24:33I saw the skulls, the mascot, the Oregon duck's mascot was dressed up as Labubu.
- 24:41Shut the fuck up.
- 24:42Are you kidding me?
- 24:43I'm not.
- 24:44Did you get pictures of it?
- 24:45I'm going to have to look this up.
- 24:47Oh my god.
- 24:48When I saw him, I had no idea what it was to this moment.
- 24:52I did not know what it was.
- 24:55And I'm going to have to see if I have pictures of it, but he was dressed up as this.
- 25:00And it confused me.
- 25:02And it was like just for the first quarter.
- 25:05And then after the quarter was over, he got back into his regular puddles mascot uniform.
- 25:14But I didn't know what that was.
- 25:16I'm going to see if I took any photos, but I just kind of chalked it up to, I don't know,
- 25:22Halloween coming up or something.
- 25:25I don't know.
- 25:26And then you send me this link and I see the photo and I'm like, oh my god, he was wearing
- 25:31that.
- 25:32I've never seen this.
- 25:33I was so upset because I was like this whole episode, the basis of it was that I was going
- 25:40to like totally throw Cassie off about how I'm talking about haunted dolls and.
- 25:47Oh my god.
- 25:48Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 25:49I got a video of it.
- 25:51Look at this.
- 25:52Okay.
- 25:53So I'm going to pause it.
- 25:54So this was meant to be.
- 25:56This is crazy.
- 25:58Look.
- 25:59That's him.
- 26:01Dude.
- 26:02The duck's mascot was dressed up to this thing and I want to know what you have to say about
- 26:09this because I know nothing about this.
- 26:11Here's the back of it.
- 26:13Oh my god.
- 26:14Okay.
- 26:15Okay.
- 26:16So if you just showed me the front, I would have said, okay, like they're doing like kind of
- 26:23a cheap knockoff.
- 26:24No, that's easy.
- 26:26It is like Paulie's supposed to be a little boo boo.
- 26:30Okay.
- 26:31So I saw a whole lot of the mascot from the Oregon ducks football team dressed up as this.
- 26:36I didn't know what it meant.
- 26:38This was yesterday.
- 26:39Okay.
- 26:40So they were playing the OSU cow.
- 26:42Cowboys.
- 26:43This was September 6th.
- 26:45It is now September 7th and you're now talking about this.
- 26:48Yeah.
- 26:49I had no idea you were going to be talking about this.
- 26:51I had no idea what it meant when I saw the mascot dress.
- 26:54You didn't even have tickets for that game until like what two days ago.
- 26:58I bought it on Friday.
- 26:59Yeah.
- 27:00Yeah.
- 27:01And you couldn't have known that puddles was going to be dressed up.
- 27:05Oh my god.
- 27:06I mean, even in this moment, I have no idea what this thing is.
- 27:10You're going to tell me all about it.
- 27:11Yeah.
- 27:12But I just saw the photo and I was like, oh wow, I saw puddles.
- 27:17The Oregon mascot dressed up as this.
- 27:19Are you for freaking out?
- 27:22That's crazy.
- 27:24Okay.
- 27:25So what is this thing?
- 27:26Oh my god.
- 27:28The Labouboo phenomenon began innocently enough in 2015 when Hong Kong born and Netherlands
- 27:36raised artists casing lung introduced the character as part of his storybook series,
- 27:43The Monsters.
- 27:44I have no clue.
- 27:45Ever heard of it?
- 27:46I have no.
- 27:47The series is deeply rooted in Nordic folklore and fairy tales initially known only to a niche
- 27:55audience.
- 27:56Labouboo's quirky, ugly, cute aesthetic, the furry, elf-like creature, each iteration
- 28:03flaunting nine serrated teeth and mischievous grins was later catapulted into the spotlight
- 28:10by the Chinese retailer, Popmart.
- 28:14Their exaggerated expressions create a confusing animalistic blend of wholesomeness and impishness.
- 28:22I see that.
- 28:23Yeah.
- 28:24They've kind of in a weird way and I'm certainly not the first person to draw this parallel,
- 28:30but they remind me of a Furby a little bit.
- 28:33Are you looking at him?
- 28:35I'm looking at it.
- 28:36I don't remember what a Furby is.
- 28:38That sounds familiar to me.
- 28:40Okay.
- 28:41So you need to look up a Furby really quick.
- 28:42Oh boy.
- 28:43Okay.
- 28:44We're just going down one rabbit hole at the next.
- 28:49Oh, okay.
- 28:50I remember these.
- 28:51No, I hated these things.
- 28:53I had one.
- 28:54These are awful looking.
- 28:55They're kind of scary looking.
- 28:57I like Labouboo.
- 28:59I don't like Furby.
- 29:00You like Labouboo.
- 29:01Okay.
- 29:02I actually am kind of partial to Labouboo as well as compared to a Furby.
- 29:09I had a Furby and I will tell you that those things, they really, they had kind of a similar
- 29:15reaction.
- 29:18In terms of the public consciousness, people were like, they're evil.
- 29:22They're demonic.
- 29:23Oh, okay.
- 29:25And I definitely had a late night experience with it just like starting talking in the middle
- 29:30of the night.
- 29:31Oh my God.
- 29:32And they're not supposed to talk.
- 29:35Well, the Furby's did talk.
- 29:38But it was like, it was totally unprovoked in the middle of the night and then even when
- 29:43I put it in a drawer because they say like, oh, you know, put it somewhere where it's
- 29:46like dark and then it knows it's nighttime and go to sleep.
- 29:50It just kept talking.
- 29:53Nope.
- 29:54So I think we understand where some of Caitlin's trauma regarding dolls comes from.
- 30:01They come in various forms, including figurines, plushies and bag charms.
- 30:06They even have like phone charms with Labubu.
- 30:10Okay.
- 30:11A significant aspect of their appeal is the blind box model.
- 30:15Are you familiar?
- 30:18No, I do.
- 30:19Okay.
- 30:20So this is where consumers purchase sealed boxes without knowing which specific character
- 30:25they'll get.
- 30:26Oh, sure.
- 30:27Yeah.
- 30:28That's done for a lot of things.
- 30:29A lot of things.
- 30:30Yeah.
- 30:31It's wildly successful.
- 30:33And we're in Disneyland.
- 30:34We're looking at a bunch of those.
- 30:36Mystery pins.
- 30:37Mystery.
- 30:38Yeah.
- 30:39So it adds an element of surprise and scarcity.
- 30:45That's according to experts familiar with the psychology behind the brand's wildly successful
- 30:51marketing strategy.
- 30:53So while the characters, origins, trace back to lungs, illustrated book series, The Monsters,
- 31:00the Chinese toy company Popmart that's responsible for the rapid commercialization and distribution
- 31:06of Labubu and related products.
- 31:11Even NPR is talking about Labubu these days.
- 31:15And it's fun to say.
- 31:17It really is.
- 31:18Labubu.
- 31:19Labubu.
- 31:20But how the hell have these creepy cute Furby-esque creatures suddenly become a household
- 31:28name and they are.
- 31:30Ah, this household.
- 31:33Well, like it is like a 50/50 in this household up until today.
- 31:39Even an infinite marketing and advertising budget can't fully ensure that any particular
- 31:44product will take off in the way that Labubus have.
- 31:48This is kind of thing that every ad agency, they want to bottle it like this energy.
- 31:57In this case, the endorsement of one pop culture sensation led to another.
- 32:03Lisa of the K-pop girl group, Black Pink, is largely credited with their rise to meteoric
- 32:10popularity.
- 32:11Like so many of the viral trends that came before, this all started on Instagram.
- 32:17Lisa first publicly shared her love of Labubu's in April 2024.
- 32:24The reaction of fans was swift and began to catapult the brand in the global market.
- 32:29The Labubus were really primarily popular in parts of, I believe like Southeast Asia.
- 32:38And this took them to a whole new level.
- 32:41Many have speculated that no official ties to a paid promotion of any kind have ever been
- 32:46identified.
- 32:48But do I smell a brand color?
- 32:51Right.
- 32:52I don't think they need it.
- 32:54Well here's the thing.
- 32:56In fact, Lisa has expressed interest in a possible collaboration with Labubu suggesting
- 33:02it would be a lot of fun and could blow up the internet.
- 33:10Which is like the most K-pop thing to say I think.
- 33:15I kind of love it.
- 33:17But I mean think about this.
- 33:19This situation, it's like if imagine MJ just rocked Nike's without ever collecting a dime.
- 33:27Yeah, okay.
- 33:28Right.
- 33:29So she's doing that basically.
- 33:31Yeah.
- 33:32I mean, yes.
- 33:33And you're going to see because we're going to talk about the scale at which these things
- 33:38have just become.
- 33:40It is.
- 33:41It's mind-boggling.
- 33:42Yeah.
- 33:43She needs to get paid.
- 33:44She needs to get paid.
- 33:46Lisa.
- 33:47I'm sure Lisa's getting paid, but to be honest, they should pay her for this as well.
- 33:51Okay.
- 33:52Get your Bayer girl.
- 33:54The incredible surge in demand for their products led to pop-marts, brick and mortar
- 33:59stores, as well as their RoboShops quickly selling out.
- 34:03And we have a RoboShop within a handful of miles from us.
- 34:08I happen to have checked.
- 34:10What is a RoboShop?
- 34:12It's basically a vending machine.
- 34:14Okay.
- 34:15Yeah.
- 34:16So I had a question and I was like, this sounds like a vending machine and then I looked it
- 34:19up and I was like, that's exactly what it is.
- 34:21Gotcha.
- 34:22Yeah.
- 34:23We may need to take a field trip.
- 34:24Could be.
- 34:25In turn, the resell market went crazy and prices for particularly desirable LeBoubou's
- 34:33inflated to almost unimaginable levels.
- 34:37Yet with fame came controversy.
- 34:40Starting to Shenyan Customs data, more than 400 pop-mart toys were seized in April and
- 34:47May of this year.
- 34:50resellers have been trying to smuggle them in all over China.
- 34:54Price gougers are able to fetch a price of nearly 20 times the original cost.
- 34:59So China has been cracking down.
- 35:02Those scalpers.
- 35:03I know.
- 35:04Honestly, I think that is problematic.
- 35:06It is kind of laughable, because it's all about a toy.
- 35:12But people get excited about these things and then unfortunately, the resell market, there's
- 35:20a lot of really problematic activity.
- 35:22Yeah.
- 35:23That happens in so many things.
- 35:26Yeah.
- 35:27All kinds of memorabilia and collectibles.
- 35:32This is far from the only controversial or criminal behavior plaguing the brand.
- 35:38Stories about late-night robberies have been sprouting up state-side all over the country.
- 35:43LA County, St. Louis, Le Puente, no locality seems immune to the LeBoubou trend or the
- 35:51thievery targeting it.
- 35:54There was actually one robbery that probably almost anybody who's already aware of the
- 35:58LeBoubou trend has heard about where heaves allegedly went into a shop and they stole $30,000
- 36:08worth of LeBoubou's because they had some very like desirable ones.
- 36:13Wow.
- 36:14So what is that like eight of them?
- 36:16Exactly.
- 36:17I know.
- 36:18Thanks the question.
- 36:19How many LeBoubou's is that?
- 36:24Of course anything worth stealing or smuggling is typically also worth duping.
- 36:30The better business bureau and news organizations warn of the risks of online purchases as well
- 36:36as LeBoubou's scams, which is like the most fun sounding scam.
- 36:43Aside from just generally looking off or cheap, there is one sure fire way to determine
- 36:49whether you've got a true blue LeBoubou or a knockoff known
- 36:54as a LeBoubou.
- 36:56Oh.
- 36:57Which is.
- 36:58I don't like that as much.
- 36:59It's still fun.
- 37:00Not as much.
- 37:01I was really curious to get your reaction on that because part of me almost likes the LeBouboubou
- 37:06more.
- 37:08They're both really fun to say.
- 37:10It's quintess.
- 37:11The legitimate LeBoubou brand dolls have 90th while the LeBoubou is said to typically
- 37:18hop 10.
- 37:19What if they just do 9?
- 37:21Well, okay.
- 37:25So the thing about it is that you get into trademark issues.
- 37:27So when certain types of highly recognizable products or if it has a specific logo and this
- 37:36happens a lot with designer handbags, you can only match it so closely because otherwise
- 37:43you run the risk of being sued by the actual brand.
- 37:48I feel like you can still be sued though.
- 37:52Yes.
- 37:53I mean, I'm sure you could.
- 37:54I think they do certain things to kind of be like, well, this is clearly different because
- 38:01this is well established of the particular brand.
- 38:07So ours is just a little bit different.
- 38:10Right.
- 38:11That's a whole another topic.
- 38:12It really is.
- 38:13It really is.
- 38:14And yes, my sentiment is very much that coming up here.
- 38:20There are other similar slight discrepancies in the overall appearance of the dolls out there,
- 38:25but I'll leave the collectible sleuthing up to somebody who's interested enough to follow
- 38:31up on their own time.
- 38:33So the number of teeth is a good one that's an easy verifiable thing.
- 38:38There you go.
- 38:39In general, they just look not quite right.
- 38:43It's the feedback that I got from so many sources.
- 38:47When you know, you know, yes, exactly.
- 38:50I feel like, you know, if Congress doesn't know how to define porn, but they know it when
- 38:55they see it.
- 38:56Same thing for Labu-bubu versus Lafufu.
- 39:00So bad.
- 39:01They're good appeal.
- 39:03Some Lafufu lovers appreciate the unintentional flaws and quirky appearances of the fake dolls,
- 39:10creating them ugly cute or even comical, according to business insider.
- 39:17Challenging the notion of authenticity for some, buying and showcasing Lafufu's can be
- 39:23seen as a way to push back against consumerism and the pressure to own expensive, authentic
- 39:29items.
- 39:30Which I can totally get that.
- 39:32It's kind of like anti-establishment vibes.
- 39:36Joey Kong, a trends manager at London-based market research agency, Mintel, said, "Like
- 39:43most fakes, Lafufu's reflect a combination of systemic market inequalities and genuine
- 39:49human motivations.
- 39:51The desire to belong, to experience joy, and to participate in the cultural moment.
- 39:57Because that's what a trend is."
- 40:01China has never been so determined to fix IP in parentheses intellectual property thefts.
- 40:09Thanks to Labu-bubu's contribution not just as a global best-selling toy, but as a soft
- 40:15power tool.
- 40:17A Chinese consumer trends analyst said, "Defending Labu-bubu's IP is no longer just about
- 40:24business interest, but about national interest."
- 40:27Wow.
- 40:28High-fifth.
- 40:29Very important.
- 40:30Yeah.
- 40:31So, a lot of that sounds a little bit more aligned with true crime, right?
- 40:37Sure.
- 40:38Yeah.
- 40:39Because none of that piece of things was like super spooky.
- 40:42That was all like price scouting and theft and...
- 40:47Yeah.
- 40:48Yeah.
- 40:49I thought we were just talking about toys here.
- 40:51Yeah.
- 40:52No, it's very intense.
- 40:53It always happens that way on this show.
- 40:56Yeah.
- 40:57But did I just bait and switch after reading you those scary stories at the top?
- 41:02Like, if you were a betting man, what would you say?
- 41:04Kind of feels like it.
- 41:05I know.
- 41:07Not exactly.
- 41:08It turns out there are all Reddit stories about Labu-bubu's.
- 41:12Uh-huh.
- 41:13Labu-bubu dolls, despite what some might consider an off-putting albeit harmless appearance,
- 41:20have become the subject of online stories and theories suggesting they are just playing
- 41:26creepy.
- 41:27Hunted or demonic or otherwise evil.
- 41:30Of course they are.
- 41:32Yeah.
- 41:33Or they are Chinese spies.
- 41:36Oh, actually, that's...
- 41:38That's a thing.
- 41:39Put your tin foil hat on.
- 41:41Mm-hmm.
- 41:42Yeah.
- 41:43Yeah.
- 41:45These narratives often portray the dolls as having a dark or evil side.
- 41:50Despite their original design by casing lung being inspired by Nordic folklore, and they're
- 41:58actually intended to be kind-hearted.
- 42:00Seems like it.
- 42:02Doesn't it?
- 42:03I mean, they have kind of a mischievous little look about them, but it's like, I don't
- 42:07know.
- 42:08It's cute.
- 42:09It's fun.
- 42:10Yeah.
- 42:11Some stories suggest the dolls move on their own, whisper or even exhibit other supernatural
- 42:18behaviors, and these area accounts set the stage for the strange blend of pop culture hype
- 42:26and supernatural rumors to follow.
- 42:30Some people have reported generally feeling uneasy or experiencing a sense of dread around
- 42:35the dolls, which I mean, yeah, that feels fair.
- 42:40Leading to speculation about their psychological impact as well as, honestly, like the weakest
- 42:47version of the satanic panic that I can recall just feels like, I don't know, is there nothing
- 42:54else to be alarmed about in today's world?
- 42:58This is why you're picking.
- 43:00This is the hill you'd like to die on.
- 43:04I guess.
- 43:05Okay, Bobby.
- 43:07And it doesn't just end at satanic panic because this is why we can't have nice things.
- 43:14A viral social media theory began linking La Boo Boo to Pazuzu.
- 43:21The ancient Mesopotamian demon god made famous by the cult classic film released in 1973,
- 43:30the exorcist.
- 43:31The comparison hinged on a few visual similarities that I can't find and was amplified by user
- 43:39sharing ominous posts, including a clip from the Simpsons featuring Pazuzu.
- 43:46Despite the dramatic narrative, experts and fact checkers have thoroughly debunked the
- 43:51theory.
- 43:53La Boo Boo was born from childhood nostalgia and folklore, not dark mythology.
- 44:01Also, let's not forget Pazuzu was itself at least in part of fictional
- 44:09character created by the author of the exorcist William Peter Blattie.
- 44:17Y'all need to touch some grass.
- 44:20Although I could make an argument that maybe they've already touched some grass.
- 44:28You know, it's like which.
- 44:31Personally, I don't think La Boo Boo's look like the pictures that I found of Pazuzu.
- 44:37In any way, like you said, they both have faces.
- 44:43The only thing arguably more scary than corporate greed laid bare or even the paranormal is maybe
- 44:50racism.
- 44:52Go on.
- 44:54I was counting on that being a little bit both confusing and intriguing.
- 45:00Take the UK-based social media influencer who was racking up the views for her increasingly
- 45:06rare, unusual and expensive La Boo Boo's.
- 45:13And her home spun KSI, La Boo Boo.
- 45:17KSI is a British YouTuber, rapper and professional boxer.
- 45:22I've heard of them.
- 45:23You have?
- 45:24Have you seen them?
- 45:25Yeah.
- 45:26Alright.
- 45:27So you know where this is going?
- 45:28Maybe?
- 45:29Canna?
- 45:30No.
- 45:31No, I do.
- 45:32Even if you have some context, your brain's not going to go there.
- 45:37A promise.
- 45:38He is widely known as JJ and is also a co-founder of The Side Men, a group of popular YouTubers.
- 45:46He's even a successful entrepreneur.
- 45:49Co-owning the Energy Drink Company Prime Hydration with Logan Paul will just sidestep the co-owners
- 45:55questionable persona and say, "Good for KSI for diversifying his portfolio and career prospects."
- 46:04The backlash and public outcry about the wildly racially insensitive modifications that she
- 46:10made to her doll led to her removing the video she had posted about it.
- 46:16But the video was saved before she managed to wipe the instance of blackface from the
- 46:21interwebs.
- 46:22Oh, boy.
- 46:24I just can't.
- 46:27As I was writing up my notes over several days, KSI finally responded to the whole thing because
- 46:34there were a lot of people saying, "How does he feel about it?
- 46:38Does he feel like it's racist?"
- 46:39And I feel like blackface is kind of racist, even if he doesn't necessarily take a ton of
- 46:46offense.
- 46:47It's just probably not something we should do.
- 46:51And according to a short clip of the TikTok he posted in reply, his major complaint was
- 46:56that on the doll his forehead was so big.
- 47:00Oh, yeah.
- 47:02Nobody likes that.
- 47:04Nobody likes that.
- 47:05So he's responded in good humor.
- 47:10That's only to his credit.
- 47:11I don't think that's anything in her defense because it's pretty gross.
- 47:18But, of course, the most important thing is that the
- 47:21Internet is a very important thing.
- 47:23And the most important thing is that the Internet is a very important thing.
- 47:27And the most important thing is that the Internet is a very important thing.
- 47:32And the most important thing is that the Internet is a very important thing.
- 47:36And the most important thing is that the Internet is a very important thing.
- 47:40And the most important thing is that the Internet is a very important thing.
- 47:45The Toys blend of ugly cute charm, blind box thrill, celebrity endorsements, and fringe
- 47:52rumors only intensified its status.
- 47:56Not as a toy born of darkness, but as a mirror of our own fascination with the uncanny
- 48:02and the unknown.
- 48:06Well put.
- 48:07Yeah.
- 48:08I know it's such an interesting thing.
- 48:10I feel like there are so many trends that kind of...
- 48:13It's like it really kind of makes you think.
- 48:16Like, it's not that deep.
- 48:18Yeah, it shouldn't be.
- 48:20It shouldn't be, but man, I mean, you involve people all over the world and you're going
- 48:25to get all different kinds of perspectives and any opportunity to make a buck is really,
- 48:33you know, there's opportunities there that people are going to take advantage.
- 48:38Yeah.
- 48:39Yeah.
- 48:40Popularity, boredom, and money.
- 48:42Yeah, yeah.
- 48:45It's a winning combination.
- 48:48It seems to be here.
- 48:49Well, at least for Pop Mart.
- 48:51Well, Christopher, should we tell the people what we've done?
- 48:56Yes, let's do it.
- 49:00We went to a place, we took a field trip.
- 49:02Yeah, we did.
- 49:04Okay, so aside from a little bit of TV watching, we took a little break.
- 49:14We went on a field trip and we had a meal.
- 49:21But we also came back with a pirate coach.
- 49:26And the toy?
- 49:27Yeah, possibly.
- 49:29Okay, I'm going to have you shuffle.
- 49:33Like actually shuffle or just cut it?
- 49:35You can do whatever you want.
- 49:36I'm just going to cut it.
- 49:38I'm lazy.
- 49:39I took another nap.
- 49:42I need to take another nap.
- 49:46Okay.
- 49:47All right.
- 49:48And we are down two cameras, but you know we're good for it.
- 49:55Okay.
- 49:56So I'm going to do kind of what I classically do and I'll just spread and you tell me if
- 50:02there's like one end of the deck or kind of a specific card that you feel like is calling
- 50:09us.
- 50:10What do you think?
- 50:12Mm.
- 50:13Wait, you can just put your finger across it and I'll tell you when.
- 50:17When?
- 50:18That one.
- 50:19That one?
- 50:20Okay.
- 50:21On the left hand side.
- 50:23Oh.
- 50:24Okay.
- 50:26The Ace of Cups.
- 50:28Ooh.
- 50:29She's pretty.
- 50:31I don't know what that means.
- 50:33Okay.
- 50:34Well, I'm going to tell you.
- 50:35Good.
- 50:36I need it.
- 50:37Thank goodness I'm here, right?
- 50:39Thank goodness I'm here.
- 50:42All right.
- 50:43So we drew the Ace of Cups in the upward position, the upright, I should say, keywords are
- 50:51new love, beginning a creative activity and joy.
- 50:56Well, look at that.
- 50:59Look at that.
- 51:00A single large cellus appears on the Ace of Cups.
- 51:04Sometimes water flows out of it fountain like or the cup sits in water.
- 51:10In the writer, Wait Smith deck, a hand emerging from a cloud offers the cup as a gift to you.
- 51:19This represents a gift of love, either of a personal or divine nature.
- 51:25This Ace reminds us of the Holy Grail, the most famous cellus of all, which some people
- 51:32believe now lies in the cellus well in Glastonbury, England.
- 51:37All right.
- 51:38So I'm going to reach you the main interpretation and then there is an extra excerpt.
- 51:44So wonderful.
- 51:47The upright Ace denotes a burst of joy, the kind that comes with falling in love.
- 51:54And it's appearance heralds a new romance, but it can also represent the start of a creative
- 52:00project about which you feel happy.
- 52:03Are we getting into the LeBoubou business?
- 52:07This is telling us we may be.
- 52:09I feel like I don't know what that means, but maybe we are.
- 52:13I'm scared.
- 52:14Yeah, as you should be.
- 52:18When this beautiful card shows up, it indicates you're on an emotional high and enjoying life.
- 52:25Sometimes it indicates the birth of a child or idea.
- 52:29Mm-hmm.
- 52:30Okay.
- 52:31All right.
- 52:32In reading about money, the Ace suggests the beginning of a creative endeavor that promises
- 52:38to be profitable.
- 52:39I like that.
- 52:41I like that too.
- 52:43I'm with you.
- 52:45Read carefully and the seeds will bear fruit.
- 52:49If the reading is about your work, you may be starting a new job and feel enthusiastic
- 52:54about it.
- 52:55Perhaps this position will allow you to express your creativity or fulfill a dream even
- 53:01though it might take some time.
- 53:03In a reading about love, the Ace symbolizes the first stages of a romantic relationship.
- 53:10Nurture it so your love will blossom.
- 53:14Sometimes it represents awakening to divine love.
- 53:17Wow.
- 53:18Yeah.
- 53:19Okay.
- 53:20And then our extra excerpt is a Wicken Blessing.
- 53:25Sharing a beverage in a chalice is a popular practice in Wicken rituals.
- 53:31Sometimes the chalice is offered with the blessing, may you never thirst.
- 53:36Because the chalice is passed from one person to another, it may feature a long stem that
- 53:41makes it easier to handle.
- 53:43Okay.
- 53:44Interesting.
- 53:45Alright.
- 53:46And then I guess we break into our package now.
- 53:51Yeah.
- 53:52Let's see if that has anything to do with any of that.
- 53:56Okay.
- 53:57So I didn't plan to do this for the episode but I'm going to be honest.
- 54:02Chris broke me down.
- 54:03I did.
- 54:04Yeah.
- 54:05Okay.
- 54:06Okay.
- 54:07So.
- 54:08Big into energy.
- 54:12Yeah.
- 54:13A Labouboo.
- 54:14A Labouboo.
- 54:15We found one.
- 54:16There were multiple ones.
- 54:18Honestly.
- 54:19Yeah.
- 54:20If money were no object, I think probably we would have acquired multiple Laboubos because
- 54:27I kind of feel like I want to know what all of us is about.
- 54:31It wasn't cheap.
- 54:32No.
- 54:33They're not giving them away.
- 54:36I believe that it was more than retail.
- 54:40There's some debate about that.
- 54:42Yeah.
- 54:43Well, so Chris actually found on Facebook Marketplace a lot of Laboubos being advertised at or
- 54:51below the price that Popmart offers them at.
- 54:56Caitlin, thanks for your cheek or their fake.
- 54:58Yes.
- 54:59I think they are, in fact, the foofoos.
- 55:02Yeah.
- 55:03They could be.
- 55:04Yeah.
- 55:05So you've already cracked it open a little bit.
- 55:07I know just a tiny core.
- 55:09What's explained here?
- 55:11This is a mystery pack, right?
- 55:12We don't know what we're getting.
- 55:14Yeah, they really all are.
- 55:15All of them are okay.
- 55:16Yeah.
- 55:17I'm not aware of any that you can buy from a legitimate dealer where you can know what
- 55:23they are.
- 55:24So on the side, it shows what we could get, right?
- 55:29What are the options there?
- 55:30So our options are love, hope, serenity, luck, happiness, loyalty, and then there's a secret.
- 55:39Option.
- 55:40So we'll see.
- 55:44So we're destroying the value here.
- 55:47I imagine by opening it, it's obviously like any collectible item, more valuable by keeping
- 55:54it sealed, unopened, brand new.
- 55:57I think in terms of resale, this is a little bit different than some of the other collectibles
- 56:04like beanie babies.
- 56:05Because ultimately the value could be higher depending on what you have in the box until
- 56:12you open it.
- 56:13You kind of don't really know if this is just sort of a run of the mill or if it's one of
- 56:18the secret ones.
- 56:19I don't care about the value.
- 56:22I just want to know what we got.
- 56:24Okay.
- 56:25So our chances are one in six of receiving one of the regular addition.
- 56:32We have one in 72 chance of receiving the secret.
- 56:37So.
- 56:38Okay.
- 56:39Alright.
- 56:40It's the moment of truth.
- 56:41Open that next to the mic.
- 56:44Oh, that's a good open.
- 56:47Oh, that feels good.
- 56:51It's got real good ASMR.
- 56:59I was just going to say, didn't know we're doing an ASMR pod now.
- 57:07Okay.
- 57:08My gosh.
- 57:12So just for reference, do not eat.
- 57:16It is the I want to eat it.
- 57:20He's never wanted anything more.
- 57:23Don't tell me what to do.
- 57:25I'm thinking.
- 57:26That's the car that tells us what it is.
- 57:30It's so much.
- 57:31It's the cent.
- 57:32Okay.
- 57:33Yeah.
- 57:34The box had a bag and now we have to open the bag.
- 57:38The bag is open.
- 57:40It looks really cute.
- 57:42Oh.
- 57:43Oh, he's got sort of a tie dive.
- 57:46It looks like a pink and orange little La Boo Boo.
- 57:50Look at his eyes.
- 57:51Okay, babe.
- 57:52I'm going to pass this to you.
- 57:53He looks, his eyes are sparkly.
- 57:57Wow, that's pretty cool.
- 57:59Yeah.
- 58:00He's cute.
- 58:01It feels like an orange cream sickle type thing.
- 58:06You know what it makes me think of?
- 58:09Rainbow Sherbert.
- 58:11Yes.
- 58:12That's one of my favorites.
- 58:14Okay.
- 58:15So who is this guy?
- 58:16So this is loyalty.
- 58:19Loyalty.
- 58:20Okay.
- 58:21Yeah.
- 58:22Yeah.
- 58:23Yeah.
- 58:24Pretty cute.
- 58:25Pretty cute.
- 58:26I like it.
- 58:27That feels like a good omen for the newly married couple, doesn't it?
- 58:31Yeah.
- 58:33We just celebrated our one year anniversary with a loyalty La Boo Boo.
- 58:40Yeah.
- 58:41It's cute.
- 58:42Oh, you know what?
- 58:44Its ears are different colors.
- 58:45He's very soft.
- 58:47Okay.
- 58:48Counting his teeth like any good dental assistant would just just to be sure.
- 58:53Yeah.
- 58:54It feels like good quality.
- 58:56That is not a fake.
- 58:58Yeah.
- 58:59Okay.
- 59:00Well, we didn't get the secret one.
- 59:01Yeah.
- 59:02That's okay.
- 59:03What are you going to do?
- 59:04I guess buy 71 more.
- 59:05Loyalty.
- 59:06Does, uh, I don't know.
- 59:09It doesn't really feel like it has anything to do with the tarot we drew though.
- 59:14Maybe just the act of getting this thing.
- 59:17Yeah.
- 59:18I feel like it's kind of an interesting one to have gotten with with the subject matter,
- 59:26right?
- 59:27Because loyalty.
- 59:28It's like, okay, first of all, don't steal.
- 59:31Don't maybe make doops.
- 59:32Well, there's a lot of brand loyalty into this little toy.
- 59:38I'm just saying.
- 59:39And I'm starting to understand why I'm already becoming emotionally attached to it.
- 59:44It's soft.
- 59:45It has cute little sparkly eyes.
- 59:48I mean, this is way cheaper than a puppy.
- 59:52Yeah.
- 59:53And it's not alive.
- 59:56Or I don't know.
- 59:58I don't know.
- 59:59We've got some Reddit stories that might bake to different.
- 1:00:02I'm so sorry, friend.
- 1:00:04I just.
- 1:00:05Yeah.
- 1:00:06Don't piss that thing off.
- 1:00:07Yeah.
- 1:00:08I know.
- 1:00:09Gosh.
- 1:00:10I'm so sorry, friend.
- 1:00:11Just in case.
- 1:00:12Yeah.
- 1:00:13I mean, you know, just be careful.
- 1:00:14Yeah.
- 1:00:15Cool.
- 1:00:16We got one.
- 1:00:17We got the logo.
- 1:00:18We got one.
- 1:00:19I might have to put it on my shelf back here.
- 1:00:21What are you guys saying?
- 1:00:23Do it.
- 1:00:24All right.
- 1:00:25Well, do you think, is it about that time?
- 1:00:27Should we say the thing?
- 1:00:29Close your mouth.
- 1:00:30What's the?
- 1:00:31Okay.
- 1:00:32Have a creepy ass day.
- 1:00:35See you next Tuesday.
- 1:00:37Love bobo.
- 1:00:38I do.
- 1:00:39Yeah, it's cute.
- 1:00:52I'm serious.
- 1:00:53I'm forming an emotional attachment to it already.
- 1:00:55Oh, no.
- 1:00:56I'm worried.
- 1:00:57(laughing)
- 1:00:59(laughs)
