- 0:00Podcasthero.com Welcome to The Daily Quote, a podcast designed
- 0:05to kick start your day in a positive way.
- 0:08I'm your host, Anna McGivern for October 21st.
- 0:11Today is National Apple Day celebration that honors one of
- 0:15nature's most beloved and versatile fruits.
- 0:19The founders, Sue Clifford and Angela King created Apple Day to
- 0:23celebrate the diversity of apple varieties, promote the
- 0:27preservation of traditional orchards, and encourage people
- 0:31to reconnect with locally sourced seasonal food.
- 0:35What started as Auk celebration has grown into a global
- 0:40appreciation of apples and their rich cultural, historical and
- 0:44agricultural significance. With over 7000 recognized apple
- 0:49varieties grown worldwide, apples represent incredible
- 0:54biodiversity. From their crispy Granny Smith
- 0:58to this sweet Honey Crisp, from classic Red Delicious to
- 1:03heirloom varieties like Cox's Orange Pippin, apples offer
- 1:08something for everyone. National Apple Day reminds us to
- 1:12appreciate not just the fruit itself, but the orchards,
- 1:16growers, and traditions that sustain this agricultural
- 1:19heritage. And that brings us to today's
- 1:23quote from an unknown author. It's actually an old proverb,
- 1:30widely known and often repeated. Someone once said an apple a day
- 1:38keeps the doctor away. This familiar saying, which
- 1:42dates back to the 1860s, capture something profound about our
- 1:46relationship with apples that goes beyond simple nutrition
- 1:49advice. Think about what this proverb
- 1:52really represents. It's folk wisdom recognizing
- 1:56that simple, natural foods can be powerful medicine.
- 2:00Apples are packed with fiber, vitamins and antioxidants that
- 2:04support overall health. But the deeper wisdom is about
- 2:08prevention, about making small, consistent choices that protect
- 2:12our well-being rather than waiting for crisis to force
- 2:16change. National Apple Day celebrates
- 2:19the same principle by encouraging us to eat locally
- 2:24grown, seasonal apples. It's promoting not just
- 2:27individual health, but community health, environmental
- 2:32sustainability, and the preservation of agricultural
- 2:35diversity. When we support local orchards
- 2:39and choose fresh apples over processed alternatives, we're
- 2:44investing in our own health and our community's futures.
- 2:48The proverb also reminds us that good health doesn't require
- 2:52expensive supplements or complicated regiments.
- 2:56Sometimes the best medicine is as simple and accessible as
- 3:01biting into a fresh, crisp apple.
- 3:05Come to think of it, I haven't been eating many apples recently
- 3:09and I've seen way more doctors than usual over the last month
- 3:13or so. Usual is generally 0 doctors.
- 3:20Coincidence. I think not.
- 3:23So today, to celebrate National Apple Day, I'm actually going to
- 3:26eat an apple. They taste good and keep those
- 3:29doctors away. But while we're at it, let's
- 3:32take this a step further. What other simple, natural
- 3:36choices could we make that would keep the doctor away?
- 3:40What traditions in the community deserve preservation and
- 3:44support? How can you reconnect with the
- 3:47sources of your food and the people who grow it?
- 3:50Remember that Proverbs, wisdom, health and well-being often
- 3:54comes from simple, consistent choices.
- 3:58Sometimes the most powerful medicine is the most accessible
- 4:03one. That's going to do it for today.
- 4:06I'm Andrew McGivern, signing off for now, but I'll be back
- 4:11tomorrow. Same pod time, same pod station
- 4:16with another daily quote.
