- Nolan: Welcome back to the podcast ladies and gentlemen you are here with the boys of poinsai on our post credit segment post credits to the segment we go through movies TV entertainment and all the good stuff in between I am your co-host Nolan Chang and with me as always is my longtime friend and co-host Jalen Holston say what's up to the crowd Jesus: What's going on crowd? We're back, we're here, it's another beautiful Friday morning-ish. Friday mid-afternoon things, whenever you're listening to it, who knows? But it's a Friday. Got some things to go over, pretty light week, and then next couple weeks it's gonna be chaos. Chaos in the stands. Nolan: You know the vibes. Yeah. He's made it. Nolan: Yeah, we only got a little bit of news nugs today, a few trailers that we're going to review, nothing, nothing to crazily move the needle, but some things that we wanted to discuss because because that's what we do here. That's why that's why you join us on a weekly basis or your favorite podcast. And don't let anybody tell you differently. God dang. You know what I mean? Anyways, we'll start off with something nice and simple today. ⁓ First and foremost. You know, we gotta give credit where credit's due. K-Pop Demon Hunters ⁓ took the world by storm on its release to Netflix. did a little bit of a theatrical run in the ⁓ latter days in order to make them a little bit more eligible for Oscar season and they are on the verge of potentially winning ⁓ Song of the Year. So that is a distinct possibility and who can blame them? You know, it's one of those things. I wouldn't say it's... It's not frozen, but it's up there. You know what mean? The way kids are reacting to it nowadays and how the song is just kind of playing everywhere, ⁓ it's deserving all the credit it's getting. ⁓ But a sequel is officially a go for Netflix with ⁓ Sony directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, I hope I pronounced that right, returning to helm the sequel. Jalen, how do we feel about this? was, I mean, was... Jesus: was inevitable it felt like right like surely Nolan: It was inevitable, right? Right? ⁓ Now in in most cases when we talk about sequels for specific movies, certain movies, probably most likely animated movies, we got to ask, can this one be on the same track that Frozen one was where Frozen two kind of almost was better than the first installment? ⁓ Is that a possibility with this film? Jesus: I don't know though, that first one was so good that I don't think it's ever gonna get like... to that level, you know what saying? It can probably get close, like it'll probably be like a fine sequel, like no one's gonna be mad at it. But much like Into the Spider-Verse, it's always, like the second one is always the one that's like, it just has to be good. And then if they do a third one, that's the one that really has to like, you know, that's the one you gotta nail and cross the finish line with, kind of stuff. So, that's all I'd really be looking for, but as far as touching the first one, no. Will it probably be good if a lot of the same people are involved? Duh. Nolan: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Jesus: So not surprised that it was, it felt like almost the inevitable was coming, because Hollywood likes to try to strike lightning twice in the same spot most of the time. So yeah, gotta get in there and do it. yeah, good for the movies, good for the actors, people involved, more work. Nolan: What? Yeah. Now. Now, yeah, I mean, we are, we gotta mention it, but it's not gonna be a topic today. Obviously Netflix was in the running for Warner Brothers, which probably would have entailed a little bit more of a theatrical run for this movie. Do you think that they are going to kind of follow suit with how the first one did make a theatrical run first? Or is it gonna be kind of release on Netflix first, see how the... audience acclaim looks like and then go for something a little bit more theatrical for like maybe like a two-week window. Jesus: think they do that route again for sure dude. I think that just makes the most sense. It worked out really really well the first time. So why not if we're gonna do it all over again, right? You release on Netflix and then you wait. You let the hype get crazy and then you do like a one or two weekend release. You make a couple million bucks. Bow bang. Done. Easy. Nolan: Yeah, yeah, yeah. ⁓ Yeah, I'm with you on that one. Let us know down in the comments below what you guys think about K-Pop Demon Hunters getting a sequel with the original director and writer returning to helmet. Next. Now, this kind of just released this week and it was kind of interesting the way they announced it. They quoted it as saying Donald Glover Jesus: Bob's your uncle. Nolan: has been cast as the voice of Yoshi. Now forgive me if this is maybe just slip of the tongue. They should have had the voices already completed like a good minute ago, right? Cause I believe Super Mario Brothers is, isn't it releasing? Jesus: Wouldn't you think? Cause they should have been like already doing the scenes and adjusting the animations, right? Like that should have been, I feel like, months ago. Right? Nolan: Yeah. Yeah, and he already says Yoshi in a trailer months ago, right? ⁓ Do you think that that was just a... ⁓ two questions. One, do think that it was kind of just a ⁓ misspoke on his part where he meant to say Donald Glover is the voice of Yoshi, but he just said he's been cast as the voice of Yoshi and it's already been completed, done deal. It was never anyone else as a placeholder. ⁓ Or do you think it was something where Yoshi was said in a trailer and they're like, well, we gotta get a voice for him now. Let's get something going. ⁓ And then two, how do we feel about Donald Glover hopping in there as Yoshi? mean. Jesus: I mean, Donald Glover's Donald Glover. I love anything that man does, but ⁓ it seems like just kind of a weird thing to be putting Donald Glover in, because like, no offense, if anyone's ever played the Mario games, it's like an I Am Groot situation. Like, why are we getting such a high-tier, talented guy just to come in and say Yoshi all the time? ⁓ Nolan: Yeah. Jesus: I'm not mad at it, don't get me wrong, but it just seems like it, again, it's one of those weird Hollywood things trying to sell the movie on all the celebrities are gonna be in there voicing the characters like it's the 90s again. But that's just at least my takeaway from it. Still a great casting. Like I said, I love Donald Glover in anything he does. So I'll, you know, this doesn't. Nolan: Yeah, he's the perfect mixture of like swagger but nerd and geek at the same time. ⁓ Jesus: Yes, bro. yeah, like community peak, you know what I'm saying? And then had his other breakouts once he started really cranking out the music and all the childish Gambino stuff. Like, there's the amount of aura farming that man was able to conclude. was simply immaculate. So, ⁓ yeah. I mean, good for them. I think this is just more of like a weird, like, it's a weird phrasing on a report that probably was just old. And then... Nolan: Mm-hmm. Yes. Jesus: Yeah, I feel like that's what happened here with Variety. Like, they just had some old information and just now we're getting it out. stuff. Unless it's like you said, maybe in the trailer they just AI'd it and had them say Yoshi and now they actually have somebody to play the part. Nolan: Fair enough. They just grabbed a clip from the games or something like that. Jesus: Yeah, that's also a definite possibility, but I think it's just like one of those like maybe they just forgot to post this and they're like, ⁓ we should probably double down and make sure we tell people that they did this. Nolan: Do you also think that it might be maybe it was already planned where he kind of plays this unassuming little dinosaur named Yoshi and he's just Yoshi all the whole time and then randomly at some point the film is like actually my name is Yoshitama. ⁓ you know I just you know I put on this cute act for like I mean I don't know how people would respond to that but ⁓ Jesus: That would be great. I don't know that the Mario fans would be overly thrilled with that, but I feel like I would think it was funny. I think it would be hilarious if he just comes out and has a completely different voice and vibe the whole time. So, yeah. Nolan: I mean if we're calling a spade a spade, you look at all the Super Mario characters, technically none of them really have dialogue. So I mean the first movie in itself is already kind of an outlier for what these characters do, right? Because there's only so many lines that Mario actually, Luigi actually say in the game. Either way, I'm cool with it. I'm excited to see what kind of flair he brings to the character. ⁓ Is Super Mario Galaxy gonna be a couch watch for you or is it gonna be a theater run? Jesus: Probably a coucher for me. I'm just not that into Super Mario. Like I loved playing it back in the day, but I was never like a crazy die-hard like Nintendo lover or defender guy. So probably more of a couch watch for me, but ⁓ no. It's not like I'm not excited for it. I'm always interested in it. Like I love the Sonic stuff, but I wasn't rushing to go to the theater to go see Sonic and all that good stuff. So yeah. Nolan: I feel you, I feel you. Yeah, fair enough. Well, let us know down in the comments below what you think about Donald Glover, the childish Gambino. Cast? Already cast? Announced? As the voice of Yoshi. Cast? Then fired? Then cast again? You know? But let us know. Next News Nugget we got. Jesus: Bencast? Re-announced? Also? Perhaps? Certainly? Surely? Question mark? Nolan: Totally forgot that there was a thing. Okay. jump rolling. ⁓ Alien Romulus. Now, I don't know if you ever got around to seeing it, but me and Keoni watched it. Fantastic installment in the franchise by Fede Alvarez. ⁓ something I didn't expect to see. It was a perfect mixture of like, Jesus: Drum roll it. Nolan: the old school suspense horror of the first Alien and then more of the sci-fi adventure fighting creatures of Aliens, the sequel. I thought this was a fantastic movie. ⁓ Unfortunately... Jesus: Mm-hmm. Nolan: Fede Alvarez is not returning for the sequel, he announced I think at the end of last year. ⁓ So they have Michael Sarnowski, who's going to be stepping in. Now he was the director of A Quiet Place Day One, which I was actually a big fan of, starring Joseph Quinn and I believe it was Lupita Nwango. ⁓ But this is a film that I'm very excited for. Now, given that information and given the Success of what Fede Alvarez's installment was. Do you think Michael Sarnowski is gonna be able to step up to the plate for it? Or is he gonna be more of a little bit? I'm gonna do my own flair of what the sequel, direct sequel will be. Jesus: I feel like in the interest of the fans, he'll probably do his take on what he saw from Alvarez, but then you still gotta do your own thing a little bit as a director and all those kinds of things to make you stand out, because you still gotta work in the industry, right? You don't wanna just copy pasta and all that kind of stuff. But sometimes you get caught in a bind though, because some directors have such a stylized... Nolan: Exactly. Jesus: way of storytelling that you don't really have like wiggle room when you're the new guy you kind of have to like Get as close as you can to what they did While still trying to put your mark on it, obviously ⁓ But I think at the end of the day just do you man? That's what I would do I would say I'd just do me be like hey look I know this is how this guy did it but he ain't here no mo if you wanted to stay and see this creative vision or whatever just just run just run it how you would run it and then if it's a bad reception it's a bad reception, but you know Nolan: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Jesus: I'd say take the positive beats that he left behind and then do your own thing. That's what I would do. Nolan: think the biggest the biggest worry I have is that we've suddenly had this insane Renaissance of the alien and predator franchises as of right now. You know, I'm not gonna you know, Alien Romulus, Alien Earth, prey, predator into the bad predator badlands, ⁓ predator the Jesus: A lot, yes. Nolan: Forgive me, animated film, Killer of Killers. ⁓ That's five films for this, between the two franchises that have been a success in this new, I don't know what I'm say, the 2020s. I'll say the 2020s. Can they afford to have someone who maybe steps in and strikes out at the plate? When they're kind of catching steam right now to maybe make this back into something of a new cult classic for a new age of fans. Jesus: ⁓ yes, I think so. Why not? Because like, again, there's been so much time between generations, I feel like, you know what saying? Where like, if there is this new kind of rekindling of like the Halloween stuff, the Freddy versus Jason stuff, like, remember all that stuff, the scream, right? All that stuff that we, although maybe not so scream since... Nolan: Scream. Yeah, I've heard the most recent one, probably. Jesus: Listen, I've never seen John Campia that animated about how bad a film was, so... I, like, maybe we don't do Scream anymore. Nolan: I was about to bring that up. The fact that he changed his worst three films of all time and included Scream 7 in there kinda tells you something. Everything is subjective. He always says that. If you liked it, you liked it. Kudos. ⁓ Jesus: It is, but to be honest, I've never really been that far off the beaten path from John on a lot of films, but like, that dude really had some things to say about how bad that movie was. Not to go down and grab a hole with Scream 7, but my point remains is that, like you said, there is this kind of new renaissance of things, and I feel like I don't want Hollywood to really go away from it, to be honest, because it's... Nolan: Yeah, yeah. I'm tempted to watch it just to see how bad. Jesus: There's been enough time with generations where there's a bunch of new eyes that are gonna get into horror or that kind of genre through these films. Now, as more of a sci-fi nerd, I think what's unique to Alien vs. Predator is that we don't have to lean in as hard on the horror elements of it ⁓ if you don't want to, because there's so much like lore with the two species that are going on with those two properties that they can do a lot of really cool like creative stuff. ⁓ Nolan: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Jesus: But that's completely up to them and they have to kind of figure out how that would work. Hopefully that's the trend they keep going with, but no, think it's totally fine to just kind of keep the fire burning while it's hot, Just make it make sense. Nolan: right on. ⁓ You know, we'll wait it on big breath when they'll get an official announcement of when the film will release, when it's all going to come down, maybe even what the timeline storyline looks like. ⁓ I'm definitely excited. So we'll obviously announce it once it releases. Let us know down the comments below what you think about Michael Sarnowski taking helm of Alien Romulus sequel in the stead of Fede Alvarez. Next news nugget we got, and I believe the last news nugget, we only had four this week. Because I know Jalen. ⁓ nevermind. We got one more after this. ⁓ We have five. Either way, mean, this is actually something that I didn't want to talk to you about. The Oscars, the Academy Awards, the most prestigious film award show of all time. ⁓ Plans to have a Marvel reunion. ⁓ Jesus: You just try to gas it up too, man. It's still in my wheelhouse, you know? Mm-hmm. Nolan: Mainly because the Sinners and K-Pop Demon Hunters of the world seem to be very showcased, which are kind of big IPs right now. ⁓ But they seem to have a little bit of a cast reunion that's going to be taking place at this year's Oscars. Does it make sense? Yes, because there's a lot of post-production things going on. Probably they're going to start their reshoots very soon for Doomsday, if they haven't already. ⁓ They want to play it to the superhero fans and have the superstar superheroes be there on screen for the public eye, which is probably, you know, it's a cat, not cash grab, but it's a viewership grab, right? And I don't blame them. Oscars have fluctuated in the recent five years or so of has it been good, has it not been. ⁓ But my main question to you is because it seems like of the movie loving community, the movie loving world, the Oscars is the precipice, the pinnacle. ⁓ Are they going to use the airing of the Oscars to release the trailer or teaser? Jesus: I think it'd be a good idea. It wouldn't be the worst. Nolan: right? Because they they have also hinted we didn't I didn't put it on here because it wasn't necessarily it was more of a rumor wasn't necessarily big news. They have also hinted that Dune is going to be releasing their trailer probably before the end of this month. Yeah. And there was another report saying that there's two versions of the trailer. What a brand new day we need a brand new day. I don't know what's Jesus: did hear that. Did hear that. brand new day. Brand new day, allegedly possibly the end of the month. Possibly the end of the month. Right off the coattails of Born Again because apparently there might be some Frank Castle involvement type of stuff, you know? Yep. Nolan: Mm-hmm. We need some answers, Marvel and Sony. Grrr. sometimes, you know? But nonetheless, do you think that this is gearing up to be kind of like a, they're headfirst diving into this Doomsday kind of double feature event? And if that is the case, do you think that this is going to be the potential release or the indication of a imminent release for this next Avengers installment? Jesus: think so. I do I think it's a win-win for everybody involved if they do it this way personally like I think it's a great route for Getting everybody re interested in both the properties right? ⁓ point number one point number two I Listen Everybody's watching a lot. I don't say I would say the Oscars have kind of declined a little bit in popularity Right, like not as many people are tuning in but there's still a significant enough audience to where if you're gonna drop something like a doomsday trailer or like it You know a dune teaser feels like that'd be a pretty opportune time I think dune more than doomsday probably just because dune had a lot more Academy level things going on ⁓ As far as like the performances and the storytelling the cinematography Nolan: Yeah. Jesus: etc. I think Doomsday, if it's in that conversation, is probably where it always is, which is like ⁓ best adaptation of a screenplay or something, and then like visual effects stuff is usually what superhero films can get into Oscars for nowadays. Whereas Dune is straight-up going for like best picture stuff or like best actor, that kind of thing. Adapted screenplay could also win, yeah. Nolan: Mm-hmm. Yeah, typically. This picture, yeah. I mean, technically adaptive screenplay too, because it's a book. I mean, they swing for double, yeah. Jesus: ⁓ So definitely, definitely a possibility. Nolan: Now, do you think they're going to hold off maybe just to kind of because you know the the before Avatar teasers that they did were maybe two months ago right they did their thing two months ago so like Marvel's kind of been out of the public eye for a little bit. ⁓ Jesus: Mm-hmm. Nolan: Do think that this is just kind of a little appetizer and then maybe them and Dune have kind of agreed like let's release this thing around the same time like their trailers because we want people to really kind of take in that Dune's Day event. ⁓ That seems like an indicator because I think that another report came out for the Dune's Dune 3 trailer is that they had two versions set up depending on if Timothy Chalamet won the Best Actor award. And was like, don't know how that's relevant to your trailer, but cool. know, it's like, mean, mean, the only thing that I can think of is like starring Academy Award winner, Timothy Shell or Academy nominee. I was like, I mean, that makes sense, I guess. But the biggest thing for me is I feel like it's still so weird that we're getting more Avengers things going on than like you said earlier. Jesus: Did one have more of him in it? One had less of him in it? They're like cutting away? How does that work? Yeah, Academy Award winner, Shannon Lane. ⁓ Oof. Nolan: Brand new day. Brand new day is less than four months away, right? We got April, May, June, July. Jesus: It's crazy we haven't had a teaser, we haven't had nothing for Brand New Day. I just, I, what is... Nolan: Which is like, kinda kudos. Like, they did their little public eye thing for the filming of it, but I was like, the fact that you've kept a lot of stuff under wraps is actually pretty impressive, Jesus: Because everything is rumor mill, by the way. There's a hundred different villains that apparently are in this movie. We know very minimal information. There are things that are certain, which is that Sadie Sink is probably playing Rachel Summers. That's like a 94 % lock-in that's happening in the movie. Nolan: But we don't know. You're gonna be so disappointed if they're wrong. Jesus: The other thing is that there's going to be a decent amount of villains, but not as many as the internet is making you believe. Like, Scorpion is not showing up in this film. I'm sorry. Like, it's just not happening. ⁓ No. It'll be like for three seconds. I'm talking to significant, like actual main villains. Like, there's probably a hundred cameos in this movie, but the actual villain has not been released. Nolan: He is, he was renounced. Oh, okay. Cause they did, yeah, it's him. If I remember correctly, it's supposed to be like him, tombstone, boomerang or something? I don't remember. We've discussed that, yeah. Yeah, I mean. Jesus: Tombstone is confirmed. That's gonna be sick. Can't wait. But yeah, Mr. Negative, I think they haven't confirmed it, but I mean the one actor, yeah, come on. Yeah, I was gonna so you don't hire Steven Yeun to just not be Mr. Negative. Nolan: All arrows. Steven Yeun. Well, he's been saying that he was never cast. I was like... Jesus: It's on IMDB, sir. Did you talk to your agency? Nolan: I IMDB until a film comes out is kind of Wikipedia if we're being honest. You know what mean? Like, people can just kinda go... Yeah, so I'm... Jesus: They're usually pretty close though, most of time. Like they're not, they're not super inaccurate, you know. Nolan: I if Stephen Yeun appears in this film I will lose my shit. I love that actor. so you know good for them. yeah I mean we'll find out from the Oscars. Let us know in the comments below what you guys think about the Oscars planning to do a little Marvel reunion little razzle dazzle during the awards show just to kind of probably get people more excited once again which is you know. Jesus: We'll also lose it. Nolan: Something we've all been waiting for. So let us know what you think. Last News Negative. Officially Last News Negative. ⁓ Jaylen, know, had to throw a little DC into there for you, but we are on the, I would say like... the doorstep of the premiering of Lanterns this year. Aaron Pierre, fantastic actor, carries hella aura. We've talked about that before. I mean, look at the photo of him. just looks like he's gonna, you yeah. Do you think that... ⁓ sorry, this is a side question. Do you think that he could be a Bond? Jesus: Mm-hmm. He is Jon Stewart. That guy could just fly right now. Yes. Yeah, I do. I think he's got enough of that kind of like suave charisma he could be pulling off, for sure. Nolan: All right. Yeah, and he's from across the pond, I mean, it makes sense to you know. ⁓ But yeah, Aaron Pierre, who's going to be Jon Stewart in the New Lantern show and a part of the DC Universe is joining Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow. Now, Jalen, I know that we've discussed too many cooks in the kitchen from the very first Superman film that released. Seems like they're there. Tossin' in once again, or another character once again, into the next installment of Superman. Already a film that we've established will be, ⁓ starring Nicholas Holt as Lex Luthor and then David Cornswett as Superman, fighting against Brainiac. Now we're getting the lantern in there. Should we not just call this Superman just as Nick Jr.? You know what I mean? Jesus: Well, again, what is this Superman except for I need help from everybody? This is why I hate this iteration of James Gunn's character. Like his own first movie, he's relying on Hawkgirl... ⁓ the other Green Lantern, I forgot which one they used, Guy Gardner, sorry, Guy Gardner and the Mr. Terrific to basically get him out of that situation in that film against Lex Luthor. And now we're gonna bring in freaking Jon Stewart and everybody else from the freaking Justice League. What are we doing? Why do we have to have this Superman be so dependent on other superheroes all the time? That's not who he is. He doesn't need the Justice League. He doesn't need them, bro. He joins out of like, Nolan: Guy Gardner. He's fucking Superman. Jesus: Him being a kind character. He doesn't need the Justice League to fight villains, bro. It's insane to me. And even then they're falling for the same trap they did with the Henry Cavill Superman. Like his sequel movie is now bringing in another character to take away from his movie. Little bit of a different circumstance, I get it. They were trying to adapt the Frank Miller like Dark Knight Return stuff, but... Even then, still, like I loved the idea. I still liked that movie from back in the day, but I still had a main problem with like, this is supposed to be a Superman sequel, but I've spent 20 minutes getting to know Batman. You know what saying? So that's where I feel like we're gonna be going because not everyone's gonna watch Lantern. So they're gonna have to introduce Jon Stewart all over again. So yeah, I don't know. Nolan: Mm-hmm. Jesus: It just seems very dumb, not fan of the direction. This whole DCU of whatever James Gunn's got going on cannot die fast enough for me. It just needs to go away. ⁓ Nolan: know we will find out ⁓ I'm gonna stay optimistic and hold that hope mainly because you know who doesn't love more in Pierre but we got to see something going on a little bit more ⁓ separation I guess you could say in how we're taking these characters if I mean you gave Supergirl her own film but you can't give Superman his own we got to figure that one out right ⁓ Jesus: Right, there's no sidekicks for Supergirl. Nolan: Hey, there's crypto. Jesus: No, that does not count. Nolan: No? Okay. Anyways, let us know down in the comments below what you think about Aaron Pierre, Jon Stewart, Green Lantern joining Superman's sequel, Man of Tomorrow. First trailer. Malcolm in the Middle, Life's Still Unfair. Jaylen, were you a viewer of Malcolm in the Middle when you were younger? Jesus: Not like regularly, but like I would watch episodes every now and then when I got home from school. Yeah, it was always on, so I would flip on some of that stuff. I was a bigger fan of ⁓ that actor from his ⁓ Agent Cody Banks films, actually. Those were some... Nolan: It was on broadcast television, it would have released. Yes, Frankie Muniz. Jesus: Quality quality Frankie Muniz. Excuse me. Yes Frank some some quality performances there from the old Frankie ⁓ I loved the direction of this Reboot rekindling spin-off, whatever you want to call it ⁓ And I had a great time with the trailer. I thought it was thought it was good You have to see everybody again full cast is back ⁓ and it was a really good time. So Looking forward to it. I'm looking forward to see because it was already kind of a ahead of its time from a comedy perspective as far as like pushing like a little bit more mature jokes. Yeah. So I'm interested to see that now all the characters are grown up. They don't have to worry about TV restrictions, how far the comedy can go with the new. Yeah. So. Nolan: Yeah, the fourth wall kind of break and like, yeah, pushing everything forward. gonna be on Hulu you know what I mean like and it's great that they got other than I think the actor who played Dewey I think that he was like in college or something and couldn't actually complete it great that they got the whole cast back I think this is supposed to be only like a four episode thingy which makes sense it's a small revival I also just kind of hopped into the revival of scrubs first three episodes I watched thought they were fantastic you know is definitely a return to Jesus: Mm-hmm. Nolan: Return to form from what the original eight seasons of Scrubs were so I thought that was fun. We're getting this one back. This was another show I didn't have cable knock on the middle was one of the ones I watched frequently Definitely excited to see this one kind of come back as well ⁓ But yeah, let us know what you thought it's of course Malcolm a story of Malcolm who's avoiding his family because he knows just how Dysfunctional and psychotic they all are ⁓ Jesus: Exactly. Nolan: and we'll probably see some you know shenanigans and also shout out to Frankie Muniz doing his little side quests i think he became like a formula one driver or something for a hot minute he lived his life yeah right on but ⁓ let us know down in comments below what you guys think about the newer trailer for malcolm the middle life's still unfair next trailer bait now this one i thought this one is pretty pretty interesting ⁓ Riz Ahmed great actor Jesus: Yes, he lived life. Did the thing. Nolan: This one's going straight to prime video, but it's called bait and it's about a, you know, I'm forgive me. I'm not going to Indian, maybe Pakistani ⁓ person living in the UK ⁓ who is an actor. And this is kind of like a meta thing. I don't know if this is kind of like his, his low key audition to possibly throw his hat in the ring for bond. ⁓ Jesus: One of the two. Yes. Nolan: But he's in the movie, he is getting an audition to play the next Bond. And it's just kind of a story of how his life ensues after the announcement reports coming out about him as an actor suddenly puts a lot more pressure on him to nail the role, but also to kind of help him kind of escape the eternal struggle that actors nowadays have to face where it's job to job, where they can get in, they got to fit in. and I think it's pretty cool. It's definitely incorporating his culture, his background, his community. I'm not sure if it's his brother or his cousin, but the side actor is hilarious, the whole trailer, just with his little quips here and there. ⁓ But I do think that this is a very interesting looking film, probably one that I'm not going to immediately watch in its first release on Prime Video. But Jalen, what were your thoughts on Bait? Jesus: thought the trailer looked fun. I really did. I liked that actor a lot. He was amazing in Rogue One. ⁓ Nolan: Yes, yes. Jesus: In case you guys didn't remember, he was the pilot that had the brain suck thing happen to him, in case you guys don't remember who he is. But he's a really, really talented actor in all the other roles that he's also been in. So it's cool to see him kind of get his own kind of frame, nice framework of things to be able to show other studios and stuff and have some range to his ability to perform. So the show looked really interesting. I'm glad it's more of show format because then actors get to show a bit more range most of the time because you get episodes and all that good stuff versus Nolan: Mm-hmm. Jesus: like a two hour blocked time frame. ⁓ But all that being said, ⁓ I do think it is kind of a nice thing to have in your back pocket and be like, hey guys, it might be little off the wall, but like, what if I actually played James Bond? You know what I mean? Like I kinda, I might have some stuff in the bag. You know what I mean? So yeah, I liked the trailer, it looked fun. I'll probably check it out. I'll probably check it out when it comes down. Nolan: Mm-hmm. I'm suave, you know what I mean? Yeah, yeah. Yeah, absolutely. Well, let us know down in comments below what you thought about the trailer for Bait starring Riz Ahmed. Next trailer, sorry. In the gray. Now, someone made a joke about this online, but it's kind of true. ⁓ Jesus: Mm-hmm. Nolan: It seems like Guy Ritchie is the only one keeping Henry Cavill in business since he left Superman. ⁓ But this is an interesting movie, very very Guy Ritchie-esque starring Henry Cavill, Jake Gyllenhaal, Isaac Gonzalez. It seems like a group of three. Jesus: For real. For real. Nolan: mercenaries, I guess you could say, ⁓ who kind of go around and work in between the agencies in the gray, they kind of make a very big point of putting that in the trailer. ⁓ But this looks like just a straight up action packed comedy, thriller adventure with these three actors who are phenomenal, the fact that you got these three together for Guy Ritchie film. But Jalen, what were your thoughts regarding this trailer? Jesus: Honestly, this feels like like a love letter to lethal weapon a little bit ⁓ in some in some form of fashion, just like kind of the vibe of like how Jake Gyllenhaal's character is and how Henry Cavill's character is like how intense the situation is supposed to be that they're in. So. I'm interested to see it. think all the actors in there, brilliant actors. Script has kind of been there, done that. As far as like the concept goes, right? Like here's three dudes that are good at killing stuff and they go into a government thing to do something off the books. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. We have seen it over and over again. Yes, that is what it is. Right. So. Nolan: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. We're gonna shoot people and steal your stuff and then yeah Not that we don't want to see it, but you know. Jesus: That being said, still has phenomenal actors in it. And you're not wrong about Guy Ritchie still keeping Henry Cavill's career alive, which is not really like anything, like a knock on Henry so much. he, I think he's supposed to be coming back to The Witcher now that they have different show runners at some point, ⁓ allegedly. But. Nolan: Yeah, yeah. Really? Jesus: Outside of that, losing Superman really screwed this guy over. Because that should have been the next 20 years of his life. And also why I despise James Gunn so much. But ⁓ outside of that, then he had the Witcher franchise also go under. ⁓ And that... That seemingly did not go over so well because of not just creative differences, but the showrunners themselves just disrespecting the material between the books and the video games. So when you combine a few of those things, think his role in Ghost, was it Ghost Protocol, that Mission Impossible, was that the one he was in? Or was it a different one? I thought that was like seven or six, something. Nolan: it was ghost protocol I think it was the one right after ghost protocol but I know 20 yeah Jesus: Yeah. So like his side roles even aren't, you that great. And then like The Man from Uncle was also a film that I think had that done better, probably does get him more in the spotlight. Yeah, very underrated film, very good film. It just didn't do well box office-wise. yeah, we also had that going on. So not really a great trend for Henry Cavill, but. Nolan: We don't Jesus: No, the movie looks good. If you're in for just a nice, like, you want to have a good, like, action flick night or something, I think that's in the grays going to be there. I also think Jake Gyllenhaal gets a lot of flack and doesn't get enough love, to be honest. think he's a phenomenon. Like, Southpaw will forever still be, like, just burned into my memory banks. Like, what a time to be alive, to be able to watch him perform in that film, which was supposed to be Eminem, by the way. Thank God it wasn't. ⁓ But. Nolan: Yeah. Yeah. Jesus: Because that was, I love him in that film. think that's where I really got to see more of his ability to flex, because he was kind of the broke back mountain guy for like 10 years, and then now he's kind of gotten out of that. ⁓ It's been really great. Yeah, yeah for sure. Yeah. Nolan: He's put some dark roles out since then though, you know what mean? He's got a lot of range. Love it. But yeah, let us know down in the comments below what you thought about the trailer for In the Gray by Guy Ritchie starring Henry Cavill, Jake Gyllenhaal, Isaac Gonzalez. Coming soon. Last trailer we got today. Power Ballad. Now this was one that kind of just kind of caught my eye. One, because I love Paul Rudd. Two, Because I actually do respect Nick Jonas as an artist. And I thought this was kind of like a weird buddy cop documentary that they were going to make. And then once I saw the trailer, I was like, ⁓ it's not. It's yeah, it's not. It's kind of it looks like it's supposed to be comedic. then it kind of drops into this this dark. Jesus: No, it's pure vengeance. ⁓ Nolan: drama, ⁓ not necessarily dark, but I'm it's still gonna have some comedic tones to it. But it is about Paul Rudd, who is a just kind of like a bar band guy, plays around local joints, doesn't really do actual big stuff. He meets Nick Jonas, who is a full-fledged star. ⁓ and they kind of join together and start playing some music together, work on one of Nick Jonas's songs, and then he hears Paul Rudd playing one of his own originals. Decides to steal it, make it into a hit, a banger if you will, and Paul Rudd is upset as he should be that his song that he wrote that meant near and dear to his heart was stolen and made into a top 10 hit of the year, whatever. Jesus: Steals it, of course. Nolan: And then it's probably just a movie about him getting revenge and then there there may or may not be like their Reconciliation in the end of the movie and then he gets you know credit for writing the song and maybe gets taken on tour as an opener And if I just kind of spoiled the whole movie the creators of the movie hire me, you know I can tell everybody what they need to know about films But Jalen, what did you think about this trailer? Jesus: Yep. think it looks fun. think Paul Rudd, ⁓ also one of the more underrated people in Hollywood as far as like what his range actually is. ⁓ So I think that is gonna be the big thing there with this particular thing. Nick Jonas, a you know what, do you, not gonna get a ton from him from an acting perspective. So Paul Rudd's back is probably, you know, in some damage control from trying to carry this film. Nolan: He's been I feel like Nick Jones has been stepping up a little bit more as an actor not anywhere like he's he's not he's not he's not gonna write home about him, you know what mean, but Jesus: A little bit, but we're not really like... Right, like we're not really casting around Nick Jonas for films, you know what mean? It just not happened. outside of that, love the idea. I think Paul Rudd is multi-talented. He does a lot of very cool things, so anything with him in it, I'm usually, yeah, let's check it out. So, yeah. Nolan: Right on. Same, I'm on board with that. Let us know down in the comments below what you think about the movie trailer for Power Ballad starring Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas. Well that'll do it for our movie reviews, trailer reviews, sorry. Jalen, anything you're currently watching, we got a lot of things that are just gonna start releasing in the next week or two. Jesus: We sure do, we sure do, no one. First things first, everybody needs to get prepared for Invincible, season four coming very, very quickly. I think it's, is it not today? Or is it next week? No, it's, I'm like a hundred, 18th? That sounds right. So that's first on the docket is Invincible, okay? Got that on the calendars for everybody. Nolan: You Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. I'll take a look. I think it's the 18th. Jesus: And then we're gonna have ⁓ Season 2, Born Again. Everybody got that? Lanterns, right around the corner. And then we also got the boys. we, ladies and gentlemen, I know perhaps it's felt a little slower with the news and whatnot, but I am telling you right now. Nolan: March 18th. Jesus: Between Nolan and I's retinas and cones and rods, we have so many things to keep on top of for you to review, and it's going to be a good time. The Zontent, I promise you, is on the way. So keep that in mind. Nolan: Agreed. ⁓ Daredevil Born Again will be March 24th, so get ready for that one. I believe The Boys will be May, and then Lanterns is August. So we got some things coming through. We got some movies in between as well. Also gotta give a big shout out to One Piece Season 2 live action has released on Netflix. I have started watching it, not all the way through it yet. ⁓ Short little review. Jesus: Mm-hmm. Nolan: great. know, it follows up ⁓ from where season one was. Look, all you diehard One Piece fans, I get it. I'm not necessarily diehard One Piece fan. I'm not gonna lie and tell you that I sat and watched all thousand plus episodes that have been released since its initial inception into the anime world. Yeah, yeah. Good for you. Good for you. Good for you. Yeah. Jesus: Kudos to you if you're one of those actual like, you've watched all the One Piece episodes so far, bro, because there's no way you're like just casually starting One Piece, by the way. It would take you like 10 years. Nolan: And you know all the things I'm seeing online, oh the actor who's playing Luffy is terrible. was like look, if you watch One Piece, just in the casual, the character of Luffy is a buffoon. Like he is like Jesus: Yes. ⁓ Nolan: ridiculously overplayed and undersold intelligent wise and this actor is doing exactly that from screen to cart to anime to live action that's exactly what he did another thing people are saying they're rushing through a lot of these story arcs motherfucker you got a thousand plus episodes and they're they've got live action yeah you gotta you're gonna skip some things gonna hit some important stuff yeah yeah Jesus: Yeah, we're probably gonna miss some story arcs, guys. There's a thousand episodes of an anime. Make it make sense. Nolan: And I was, was, you know, I started watching it. I was a little worried cause I could kind of see where all the critiques were coming in. I messaged Shalimar. was like, Shal, what'd you think of the one piece? He's like, look, took the day off yesterday, finished the whole season. It was great. I was like, okay, that's all I needed to hear. Cause he's someone that's kept up with every thousand episodes. So, you know, for all those out there and let me, let me double check this because I just want to, and keep in mind everybody. Jesus: Yeah day off yesterday. That's how good it was. Nolan: The show itself is not meant to just be for those who've watched the anime. It's for those who are trying to get into the IP itself. And I think what it's doing here is it's bringing in a new group of fan. And season two, look at all you motherfuckers out there who are hating on the season two. It has 100 % on critic ratings right now and 96 on audience ratings. Jesus: bridging a gap there, if you will. Thank Nolan: So you tell me if this season has did good or not, right? That's all I'm gonna say. That's all I'm gonna say. ⁓ But yeah, loved it. Loved it so far. But that'll do it. Jaylen, anything else you wanna recommend for the peeps out there? Jesus: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Other than that, no, I think it's just enjoy your time before all the madness begins because it is going to get fun very quickly. Rewatch Daredevil Born again, or just rewatch Daredevil The Defenders or any of that. If you haven't seen Jessica Jones, I think that'd be a good run-through. If you've never seen that before, go find it. It'd be a good time. That's a good recommendation right around the corner here. Nolan: Indubitably. Yeah, I agree, agree, I agree. That might be the most important thing for people to watch, you know what mean? But ⁓ just kidding. Jesus: I think technically like to prep you for Born Again season 2, I would definitely try to watch season 1. Definitely try to watch Jessica Jones and then you can supplement Defenders if you'd like to get more Jessica Jones. So, yeah. Nolan: Yes. Yeah, might as well, might as well. nonetheless. Thank you guys for tuning in with us this week. Thanks for giving us a listen. And more importantly, thank you for making us a part of your day. We enjoyed having you be a part of ours from all of us here at Poin Soi. Good vibes and love. Jesus: reduces.
