Texas is battling a deadly flesh-eating parasite called the New World screwworm, which burrows into living tissue and threatens livestock — and now, Vermont is stepping up to stop it from spreading north. The state has enacted emergency rules requiring all dogs and cats entering from Texas to be screened and treated for screwworm within five days, even if they’re shelter pets.
