- 0:01Speaker 1: The Grail cannot pass beyond the great seal.
- 0:05Speaker 2: That is the boundary and the price of immortality.
- 0:09Speaker 2: Hey, welcome back to the North Florida Sports Network.
- 0:21Speaker 2: We're talking the Grail, the ACC's Holy Grail, the Grand of Rice.
- 0:29Speaker 2: They have court today up in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.
- 0:38Speaker 1: You like Carl Mecklenburg?
- 0:39Speaker 1: Right yeah, the ACC's shoes.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Florida State Finally got some actual court today.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Today we're going to talk about it.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Clemson has sued ACC as well.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Welcome to the party, pal.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Yeah, I'd like to see if the ESPN lawyers show up for that hearing.
- 1:05Speaker 1: I'd just like to see ESPN call them criminals.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Oh yeah, no criminal in the trade secret.
- 1:14Speaker 2: Well, it's not a secret anymore, because the Grand of Rice are public and that's it.
- 1:26Speaker 1: What would we do?
- 1:28Speaker 1: I'm not going to read one page of it.
- 1:31Speaker 1: That's what we got guys on the internet for the old Twitter machine.
- 1:40Speaker 2: I mean the judge pretty much said it goes whatever the state's law, and in Florida everything's public.
- 1:49Speaker 1: It's going to be unsealed.
- 1:50Speaker 1: The lawyers are going to be able to look at it, find the loophole.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Boom, bam, yada, yada, yada.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Cut to.
- 1:57Speaker 1: We're in the big 10, 2025.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Yeah, start giving us money.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Well, the April 9th to date for FSU's lawsuit against the ACC here in Florida and really nothing was decided from the judge today.
- 2:14Speaker 2: But I don't, you know.
- 2:19Speaker 2: The point is like what am I doing here?
- 2:22Speaker 1: Yeah, he definitely didn't seem like he was stoked to be Guys.
- 2:27Speaker 1: What the hell are we doing here?
- 2:30Speaker 2: Well, there's a lot of money at hand and I love Miami coming out and saying that they're happy right here in the ACC.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Yeah, feel like they know that the ship's going down anyway.
- 2:45Speaker 2: So they want to look like a loyal conference member to any new conference.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Right, that's what that looks like.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Well, they're also a part of, I think, five other schools in the conference that were.
- 2:59Speaker 1: You know that voted to sue Florida State Right, so you know whatever.
- 3:08Speaker 2: So they're going to sue Clemson now who has joined no I mean, I don't know.
- 3:15Speaker 1: We'll see what happens, dude, I think ESPN just you know they counter sued Clemson because they have to Follow the same process they did with us, but they're not.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Nothing's going to happen in that Clemson lawsuit until this one Is there anything right?
- 3:33Speaker 2: So I don't think any of these lawsuits are actually going to happen.
- 3:37Speaker 1: They're just going to It'll be interesting if they, you know, with the, the unsealing of the grant of rights and the whole agreement between ACC and ESPN.
- 3:49Speaker 1: I would assume that they're confident Florida State being them, that they're confident their lawyers can find a loophole or a way to reduce that ridiculous buyout.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Well, so we'll see.
- 4:06Speaker 2: So you know, they just don't want their trade secrets.
- 4:09Speaker 2: You know, out there Sure.
- 4:12Speaker 1: We don't want people knowing that's always going to be cool.
- 4:14Speaker 1: So then we'll just stay here Inside our little cave with you, mr Knight, and we'll just read this, this grant of rights, till we come up with a way to get out of here.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Then you can keep the seal, you can keep the grant of rights, keep it all locked up and everything after they've had their way with it.
- 4:41Speaker 1: That was the whole point.
- 4:44Speaker 2: Right.
- 4:45Speaker 1: They don't want people to be able to come in there and dissect it.
- 4:50Speaker 2: It's just case management.
- 4:51Speaker 2: It's about where it's gonna happen.
- 4:54Speaker 2: I mean, didn't they file this Knowing that Florida State was going to file suit, so they try to beat them to it.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Right, they argue that we knew there was an imminent threat of lawsuit, I guess.
- 5:09Speaker 1: And then there's some kind of dude, it's, I don't know, man, not a lawyer.
- 5:14Speaker 1: They make all kinds of arguments and they reference all kinds of past cases to set precedent in this and that.
- 5:22Speaker 1: And it's just like it's pretty boring when you start to understand why lawyers get paid a lot of money to sit there and understand all that talk there, that legal mumba-jumba.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Well, yeah, but the bottom line is they don't want it going to Florida because of the sunshine law, right, because everything is Well, you had the judge kind of leaning like, hey, I'm gonna.
- 5:47Speaker 2: It's kind of whatever state law is gonna have precedent there, Right.
- 5:52Speaker 1: And the point in which the ACC lawyer was, you know, kind of outlaw out, laying out what it says in the agreement.
- 6:01Speaker 1: You know that you have to agree.
- 6:03Speaker 1: You can't disclose this here unless you know you're in a state where you have a law that says you can't.
- 6:12Speaker 2: And that would be.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Listen, man, you knew something was up when they had, so, when it was, when it was like harnessed and protected, like it was in this day and age.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:24Speaker 2: I mean, they knew what was coming.
- 6:25Speaker 2: They're just trying to prolong it.
- 6:27Speaker 1: And there's all kinds of other like shady stuff that they don't really want getting out there.
- 6:32Speaker 2: Swofford.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Yeah, the whole deal with Swofford and Raycom is something that they and I, you know.
- 6:37Speaker 1: Obviously they don't want other networks knowing about that because it is gonna be used against them.
- 6:42Speaker 1: You know that's gonna be.
- 6:44Speaker 1: I mean, but tough shit, you shouldn't have done it Right.
- 6:49Speaker 1: You know.
- 6:50Speaker 1: Your, your, your back room shenanigans came back to bite you in the butt.
- 6:55Speaker 2: I, whatever the material of, like the fiduciary duty to the ACC, the judge did ask for them, for an example, they were not able to provide.
- 7:04Speaker 2: That's because you have a duty to your university and and you're trying to compete to get better right.
- 7:13Speaker 2: So what's this duty to the ACC crap, I mean.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Yeah that.
- 7:18Speaker 1: That.
- 7:19Speaker 1: That was kind of the whole.
- 7:20Speaker 1: I thought the whole point of conferences was to like, assist the schools, you know, like there's really no.
- 7:27Speaker 2: No, there are.
- 7:28Speaker 2: There's like hey, you signed it.
- 7:29Speaker 2: There's the argument hey, you signed it.
- 7:30Speaker 2: Now you're upset because someone's flipping it and making more off of you and you want more.
- 7:38Speaker 1: Right.
- 7:38Speaker 1: Well the argument that Florida State is also making is like you guys are adding more schools to dilute the deal even more.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Like now we got to split the pie even more ways and you're unwilling to like nah man.
- 7:55Speaker 1: And so I guess, when ACC and ESPN bring up the fact, well, you agree to the deal and everything.
- 8:03Speaker 1: The argument from Florida State is that it was they were misled.
- 8:09Speaker 1: They and all the other member schools at the time were misled.
- 8:14Speaker 1: The deal was misrepresented by whoever was in charge.
- 8:17Speaker 1: It was probably swoffered at the time.
- 8:18Speaker 1: It had to be.
- 8:19Speaker 1: I don't think Phillips has been there that long.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Definitely wasn't Phillips.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:24Speaker 1: So that's the whole basis of all of this.
- 8:27Speaker 1: We'll see.
- 8:30Speaker 1: We'll see what's in the grant of rights.
- 8:33Speaker 1: We'll see if they're actually dumb enough to put it on paper, the fact that they're pulling a fast one on all their member schools.
- 8:39Speaker 1: There's a lot of rumor or theory that it just there's not really a revised date for the deal, so it expires here in a couple of years, like 2027, like they never really put an actual time stamp on it to lock the schools in, like they had threatened.
- 8:57Speaker 1: If that's the case, then you would see Florida State pay whatever it is to have a two year penalty, right, and that's yeah, we're out of here.
- 9:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:06Speaker 2: All right.
- 9:07Speaker 1: We'll pay the next couple of years and we're gone.
- 9:09Speaker 1: Well, but but 500 million, yeah, no man, that's just not ever going to fly.
- 9:16Speaker 1: They're going to argue that forever.
- 9:19Speaker 1: They'll never have, they'll never pay.
- 9:22Speaker 1: That Like it.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Just yeah, yeah.
- 9:28Speaker 2: But yeah, just Mungo jumbo hasn't really.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Right Now, it's just going to be months and months of everybody giving their take on this season ACC is happening for the state.
- 9:37Speaker 2: Clemson will both be in it.
- 9:39Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, oh yeah, nothing's getting done before Clemson joining is is big, you know, to have their whole other action there, right, and the lawsuit has a couple of different points than Florida State.
- 9:56Speaker 1: There you go, yelling, you know they're.
- 9:58Speaker 1: Their big argument is that no other conference anywhere and any like in any sport and any Kind of league anywhere has any kind of penalty even close to that of the ACC right.
- 10:11Speaker 1: And like it just doesn't make sense for the ACC to have this wild buyout penalty.
- 10:18Speaker 1: Like what Right they question that?
- 10:21Speaker 1: You know they say number one, it's like you know you can't do it because nobody else said.
- 10:24Speaker 1: But also like why did the ACC feel it necessary to set such a high fee?
- 10:31Speaker 2: Because they knew this right.
- 10:34Speaker 1: They knew that people would eventually make our own two different leagues.
- 10:38Speaker 2: You're trying to make money off where you can and value and the ACC is Right now at Florida State and Clemson football games and they're like hey, hey, we're no.
- 10:49Speaker 2: How come Mississippi State's getting this and Vanderbilt's getting this?
- 10:53Speaker 1: Well, because they legitimize the SEC in the regular season right, right right.
- 10:57Speaker 2: It's it's, there's people.
- 10:59Speaker 2: That's what.
- 11:00Speaker 2: That's what the problem is.
- 11:01Speaker 1: We only need a couple ACC schools that can compete and that's the thing with these conferences, like owning the sport.
- 11:09Speaker 2: It's Now, it's through the TV deals right, it's the networks that own the sport now.
- 11:15Speaker 2: But if you really it needs to be based on who's going to put up Competitive balance here, yeah, and deserves, I guess.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Right, and you know, the SEC commissioner wasn't walking around like he was the godfather of college football until ESPN Launched the SEC network.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Right, but even when they were tied in with CBS for years and years and they're not gonna one.
- 11:42Speaker 1: He was still just the commissioner of a conference.
- 11:44Speaker 1: Now Greg Sankie is everywhere.
- 11:46Speaker 1: Yeah, he isn't.
- 11:47Speaker 1: He's got a hand in everything.
- 11:50Speaker 2: Well, that's gonna happen?
- 11:51Speaker 2: I don't have.
- 11:52Speaker 1: He's just a tentacle of ESPN.
- 11:54Speaker 2: I mean right and they're right there in the lawsuit right.
- 11:59Speaker 1: So Jim Phillips lobbying for the ACC and basketball All over the place, come come.
- 12:05Speaker 1: You know, last week, whenever selection Sunday was, where was he during the football playoff?
- 12:10Speaker 1: Dude, he was MIA, right.
- 12:12Speaker 1: No TV time.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Yeah, I told to sit in the corner Read.
- 12:17Speaker 2: Read your little time magazine, man, dude like so writing's been on the wall, they just jump started it.
- 12:25Speaker 2: We talked about that, but hey Pro day, yeah, a lot of good players at a floor.
- 12:32Speaker 2: Estate gonna be drafted this year more than a Long time it sounds like he came in, had a pretty good pro day, which is bill that didn't get.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Yeah, he didn't get to go to the combine.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I Don't know if there was an official on his 40, but it from the the little rumors on the internet it was.
- 12:53Speaker 1: It was pretty, pretty damn fast.
- 12:55Speaker 1: One thing I read, said 438, is what somebody was mumbling while they were at pro day.
- 13:06Speaker 1: Dude, if he ran anywhere near that as a safety he's gonna.
- 13:11Speaker 1: You know, he's got a chance catching on somewhere, man.
- 13:14Speaker 1: I thought he kind of got slighted by not getting invited to.
- 13:20Speaker 2: Indianapolis.
- 13:20Speaker 2: Well, I mean, it's all right.
- 13:23Speaker 1: The injury probably set him back a little bit, the scouts will find you.
- 13:27Speaker 2: I mean the talent.
- 13:29Speaker 1: But that's just another one of FSU's guys that come testing time, just, you know, showing out.
- 13:39Speaker 2: Well, also, I think you're only gonna see what they did in Indianapolis.
- 13:47Speaker 2: Just more of a confirmation of that.
- 13:50Speaker 2: You know, keon Coleman probably could have.
- 13:54Speaker 2: You know, maybe a better 40 time might help him.
- 13:57Speaker 2: But I think if you like a guy like that, I always said John Harbaugh a couple of years ago, I don't I forget what prospect, but he knew he liked the guy he had.
- 14:08Speaker 2: He didn't even care.
- 14:09Speaker 2: He was almost hoping that his 40 time wasn't good and Indianapolis he's like.
- 14:14Speaker 2: I hope he doesn't do a good 40.
- 14:16Speaker 1: Yeah, like there's, and that's definitely possible there's somebody sitting there like, oh, may I ran a four, six dude.
- 14:21Speaker 2: We're snatching him as soon as we can Keon someone's like oh, this is great, we need a guy like this.
- 14:25Speaker 2: We've seen all we need from this guy.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Somebody needs a receiver.
- 14:28Speaker 1: They can't use their first round pick on a receiver unless it was deemed one of the top guys.
- 14:36Speaker 1: You know, they need other things as well, but they also need a receiver.
- 14:40Speaker 1: He runs a four, six.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Oh, he's gonna be there at the beginning of the second round.
- 14:43Speaker 2: We'll see, I mean, you got the guy from Texas.
- 14:45Speaker 2: You know, he didn't really put up that much numbers, no, no, but he's got this speed.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Here's the thing, man you got Marvin Harrison Jr, and that just because he doesn't work out.
- 14:57Speaker 1: He didn't work out at Ohio State's pro day, so you're just drafting him number one receiver just based off of what?
- 15:05Speaker 1: What you've seen on the field.
- 15:09Speaker 1: Well, yeah, what you've seen on the field, right?
- 15:11Speaker 1: So I mean, there's no reason why somebody doesn't see that with Keon Coleman.
- 15:16Speaker 2: It's like yeah.
- 15:16Speaker 2: I really don't give a shit that he ran a four, six, exactly.
- 15:19Speaker 2: I think it's one of those things where it can only.
- 15:22Speaker 2: I mean, obviously if he ran an outstanding 40 time he would, it would help him, but he had to have known.
- 15:29Speaker 2: But also he's not going to back down from the challenge.
- 15:34Speaker 2: And you saw another, I think, when it came down to ball.
- 15:38Speaker 2: You know he saw him, he looked the best and he was running some of those other girls.
- 15:42Speaker 1: It's like man.
- 15:42Speaker 1: It's like you said when you said that the months leading up into the draft, after the combine, is everybody talking out of their ass, man.
- 15:49Speaker 1: Like they're taking all those testing numbers and like, oh God, this guy's going here.
- 15:54Speaker 1: These are obviously the best receivers.
- 15:56Speaker 1: Look at this 40.
- 15:57Speaker 1: He ran.
- 15:58Speaker 1: You know nothing.
- 16:01Speaker 1: Nothing but talk.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Nobody really knows what the teams are gonna do.
- 16:06Speaker 1: Some of them are obvious, somebody's you know.
- 16:08Speaker 1: Obviously Caleb Williams is going to Chicago.
- 16:10Speaker 1: The QBs are gonna come off the board first.
- 16:14Speaker 1: It happens every year.
- 16:15Speaker 1: But in terms of like the receivers and when you get into like who's the second, third receiver taking you know who's going here, what running back Like dude, nobody knows.
- 16:26Speaker 2: Hey, they're gonna come in like crazy though, yeah, and when they do, also anything that we had.
- 16:34Speaker 2: You know.
- 16:35Speaker 2: Practices underway, a couple of practices under.
- 16:37Speaker 2: You know, spring DJ out there.
- 16:41Speaker 1: Yeah, rocking number four.
- 16:42Speaker 2: Yeah, he listened to you.
- 16:45Speaker 2: Guess he wasn't gonna go with five.
- 16:46Speaker 2: He's going with four, yeah Right, and then you have.
- 16:51Speaker 1: I mean dude, dude Spans number five.
- 16:53Speaker 1: Wait, he might have changed number one.
- 16:55Speaker 1: No, he don't.
- 16:56Speaker 1: Nobody needs to wear number five.
- 16:59Speaker 2: I also have a glam out there running.
- 17:02Speaker 2: He looks a lot bigger and you know he didn't.
- 17:05Speaker 2: I Think just be getting on the field is gonna be a lot of experience when it comes to just confidence.
- 17:13Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I mean, it was a true freshman last year right, and you have Luke Roman Hawk, but it's DJ.
- 17:23Speaker 2: Oh, he's job.
- 17:24Speaker 2: Yeah you know it.
- 17:28Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, there shouldn't even be a question just gotta get him if there is a question.
- 17:32Speaker 1: Then there's some some right, big reason for concern.
- 17:37Speaker 2: Right, I mean you have a guy that was the top ranked quarterback at a high school, right, he come in, he go in into Clemson, probably followed.
- 17:45Speaker 2: You know there's a lot of pressure and you know we went out to work, yeah.
- 17:49Speaker 1: Well, I mean, he came into Clemson, he followed two Generational type quarterbacks, I mean, and Clemson was really good when Deshaun Watson was there, right everywhere, and Then when Trevor Lawrence is there, like everywhere all over the field, that the talent kind of starts to take a dip, right when DJ shows up.
- 18:10Speaker 2: Yeah you know and I Think, I think they won the ACC.
- 18:16Speaker 1: Man right, right, right like the year that everybody's hammering them and you know this is a kid club Nick, everybody wanted club Nick playing.
- 18:25Speaker 1: They still went 10 and 2 and won the ACC right.
- 18:29Speaker 1: So Again, like I think a lot of it was people just Trashing on the kid because he didn't come in and do with Deshaun Watson and Trevor Lawrence did well, I think he made the right decision and to transfer a nut, he has a chance to go back to the conference he left.
- 18:48Speaker 2: Yeah to show a nut.
- 18:49Speaker 2: I mean this is Kind of an audition like any other for the pro level.
- 18:54Speaker 2: I mean, if you can come up here, improve, learn, adapt to a system it's I mean he's has more to gain than he would in a rookie year, probably in a draft stock Improvement by you know he by having a good season at Florida State this year right.
- 19:08Speaker 1: What you can show is you can come up to Florida State and you buy into the, the work environment which is gonna be what it's like in the NFL, so you could come into the locker room.
- 19:19Speaker 1: You buy right into that.
- 19:20Speaker 1: Just you know work all the time mindset.
- 19:23Speaker 1: Then I mean you're gonna get your shots throwing it downfield and that's.
- 19:27Speaker 1: That's where you're gonna.
- 19:29Speaker 1: You know, that's where you're gonna wow people right.
- 19:32Speaker 1: Down downfield shots.
- 19:33Speaker 1: That's what the off.
- 19:34Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, you're gonna, we're gonna run the ball, but it's Dude it.
- 19:41Speaker 1: You know we got speed now on the outside.
- 19:44Speaker 1: Right, benson, real speed, yeah, yeah.
- 19:47Speaker 1: Another Benson, yeah and you see the yeah and he's.
- 19:50Speaker 1: He's got a gear that you know.
- 19:52Speaker 1: The other you know, coleman and Wilson did.
- 19:54Speaker 2: DJs got the arm talent.
- 19:56Speaker 2: He's got the speed.
- 19:57Speaker 1: I've seen it he can throw the ball, yeah, yeah and you know, hiking Williams ain't no, you know ain't no baby yeah, so he's gonna have his opportunities in the passing game To impress scouts, like there will be the chance for it for that.
- 20:13Speaker 1: But honestly, dude, I think it's just a Kind of a mental just come back and and sort of show all the people that were the first ones to doubt him like, you know, you come back to the conference.
- 20:30Speaker 1: Yeah, you got the Tigers coming in to dope this year.
- 20:34Speaker 2: Right, that's gonna be a huge game.
- 20:37Speaker 2: Yeah, well, we have.
- 20:41Speaker 2: Well, we started the show talking about Clemson and court.
- 20:45Speaker 2: Just doesn't seem right.
- 20:47Speaker 2: But that's not going anywhere.
- 20:49Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, I can't imagine the ACC.
- 20:53Speaker 1: What I want to know is who's going to be the next?
- 20:58Speaker 1: There's got to be another school.
- 21:01Speaker 2: It's not going to be Miami.
- 21:02Speaker 2: No, of course not.
- 21:03Speaker 2: They're private.
- 21:06Speaker 1: They're not going to see you.
- 21:08Speaker 1: They're not worried about money, right?
- 21:11Speaker 2: The lawyer didn't even mention them.
- 21:13Speaker 1: They got huge anti-Castro war chests man.
- 21:16Speaker 1: That shit was funding the revolution down there is coming in.
- 21:24Speaker 2: Well, I mean, you have the two big, big dogs I'm saying in four state.
- 21:30Speaker 1: What you need is a team from Tobacco Road Right, north Carolina.
- 21:34Speaker 1: I'm looking at North Carolina.
- 21:34Speaker 1: Dude, you got to come off the top rope, north Carolina Just end it.
- 21:38Speaker 1: Yeah, you know what?
- 21:40Speaker 1: Actually, they make a great point.
- 21:42Speaker 1: Listen, we had a deal with Swofford for a long time.
- 21:46Speaker 1: We know he was an asshole, like he was wrong.
- 21:49Speaker 1: That's just everybody.
- 21:52Speaker 1: Go our separate ways.
- 21:55Speaker 2: Yep, so three different trials.
- 21:57Speaker 2: I mean there's going to be more in different conferences, so, and then, who knows it's got to be, eventually there's got to be a commissioner.
- 22:11Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I mean there's really no way you can escape the politics of it, though, because if there's a commissioner, then what's he tied to?

- 23:02Speaker 2: I said that the whole time.
- 23:03Speaker 2: If we go to the SEC, it's just a defense, Right To get them out, oh yeah.
- 23:11Speaker 1: ESPN is is totally like they're fine with not having to take you.
- 23:16Speaker 1: Florida State.
- 23:16Speaker 1: Yeah, we're going.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Well, we got that.
- 23:19Speaker 1: We got to keep you like this baseball.
