- 0:30Speaker 1: we are going to be reviewing Star Trek six, The
- 0:34Speaker 1: Undiscovered Country, my favorite movie. Plus we've got Star Trek
- 0:39Speaker 1: News and your listener feedback. I am Scott Boucher's with
- 0:43Speaker 1: me is your co host Dan Lombardo. And now Early
- 0:48Speaker 1: Bird Gets the Worm Daniel Reyes.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it's morning.
- 0:55Speaker 3: Everybody, early early bird or early Bird of Prey.
- 0:59Speaker 1: The Bird of Prey gets the worm.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Here an owl when I woke up?
- 1:03Speaker 1: So nice?
- 1:05Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, there you go. Are you an owl?
- 1:16Speaker 1: So welcome every Good morning everybody. So the reason why
- 1:19Speaker 1: we're doing the show early, I've got a Patriot guard
- 1:21Speaker 1: Ryder's mission. Yeah this morning. So Dan and especially Daniel
- 1:27Speaker 1: graciously agreed to do the show an hour early. Now,
- 1:30Speaker 1: for Daniel that means a lot because Daniel is on
- 1:33Speaker 1: Pacific time, which means it's specifically early.
- 1:38Speaker 2: That's right, that's right, it's uh six am on a Sunday.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, so.
- 1:46Speaker 2: I mean we have to get up an hour early
- 1:48Speaker 2: to get ready for the show, so right, right, yeah,
- 1:51Speaker 2: So I appreciate your sacrifice, Daniel, I really do. Oh no, no,
- 1:56Speaker 2: it's fine. You know it's fun after this.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Right right, I'm gonna I'm gonna be all most up.
- 2:03Speaker 3: I'm I'm at a conference for work Tuesday and Wednesday,
- 2:08Speaker 3: so I have to fly. Oh man, I have to
- 2:11Speaker 3: fly tomorrow. But in order to get the flight that
- 2:14Speaker 3: I wanted, I have to be at the airport at
- 2:17Speaker 3: six am tomorrow. Oh no, no, I'm sorry. My flight
- 2:22Speaker 3: takes off at six am. They tell you be there
- 2:24Speaker 3: two hours eld.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Oh no, oh no.
- 2:28Speaker 3: I gotta be there. I gotta be there four. The
- 2:30Speaker 3: airport's an hour away, so I gotta leave at three,
- 2:33Speaker 3: which means I gotta get up at two. So yeah,
- 2:38Speaker 3: I know you're on Pacific time, but you know sucks
- 2:41Speaker 3: for me too, Okay.
- 2:43Speaker 2: I yet it, man, I get it. I get it.
- 2:46Speaker 2: When I fly to New York, that's that's exactly what
- 2:48Speaker 2: I do. The flight's at six am, it's an hour away.
- 2:51Speaker 2: I have to be there two hours early. Yeah, I
- 2:53Speaker 2: get it. I get it.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Yeah that sucks.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Well, if there's anything people like, it's talking about the
- 2:59Speaker 2: airport at six am.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Yeah, you'll have to excuse my voice. My voice is
- 3:05Speaker 1: sort of leaving me. My my son had his uh
- 3:08Speaker 1: uh musical that he did. They did a production. The
- 3:10Speaker 1: middle school did a production of High School Musical Junior.
- 3:15Speaker 1: And I was volunteering both days doing concessions and ushering
- 3:19Speaker 1: and stuff like that. And and also I was watching
- 3:23Speaker 1: the production, both productions, and so I was.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Like, yeah, so what junior high school musical?
- 3:31Speaker 1: I guess it would be middle school music.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Yeah, middle school.
- 3:36Speaker 1: But they did a fantastic job, and my son really
- 3:38Speaker 1: came out of a shell and he hit a little
- 3:41Speaker 1: solo and it was amazing. And the production people are great.
- 3:45Speaker 1: You know, I I did. I did theater in high school.
- 3:49Speaker 1: I did. I did the play. Yeah, and I stage threw.
- 3:54Speaker 3: Anyone out there. If anyone out there in the world
- 3:57Speaker 3: has any footage of uh thesbian stronger about hers? Yes,
- 4:04Speaker 3: I stronger abouders, I'd love to see that.
- 4:07Speaker 1: And I might. I might have some I might have
- 4:09Speaker 1: some footage or at least some photos I can I
- 4:12Speaker 1: can please. In fact, next to the you know the
- 4:17Speaker 1: Universal Star Trek thing they used to have where it
- 4:19Speaker 1: was a green screen and you could you were the
- 4:23Speaker 1: captain and your friend was the first officer I've got
- 4:26Speaker 1: I've got that tape of my dad and I doing
- 4:29Speaker 1: that when I was about fourteen fifteen. Yeah, I was
- 4:35Speaker 1: the captain and my dad was the Bulkan science officer
- 4:38Speaker 1: with the ears and everything. It was great. So I've
- 4:40Speaker 1: got that somewhere. But yeah, I did. I did theater
- 4:43Speaker 1: in high school. I did. I actually got a lettered
- 4:45Speaker 1: in drama. So the drama was I was a real
- 4:52Speaker 1: some sort of shy kid. Uh And you know, once
- 4:57Speaker 1: I got in the theater really got me to come
- 4:59Speaker 1: out of my shelf. I honest, we don't believe I'd
- 5:00Speaker 1: have been doing the show if it wasn't for theater. Well,
- 5:03Speaker 1: it really got me. I was kind of introverted in
- 5:05Speaker 1: high school. And and uh so yeah, if it wasn't
- 5:08Speaker 1: if it wasn't for drama and theater, yeah, it really
- 5:12Speaker 1: helped me out. So yeah, my son did a great job.
- 5:16Speaker 1: We had a great time, so he was really into it.
- 5:19Speaker 1: So yeah, and also, the power is out. The power
- 5:23Speaker 1: is out at my house for since Friday evening. We
- 5:27Speaker 1: had a large band of storms go through the Midwest.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Did that affect you, Dan, Yes, right, Okay, it must
- 5:37Speaker 1: have dissipated by the time it got to the east coast, but.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Does get stronger.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Yes, the beard is getting you know, I noticed for
- 5:45Speaker 1: the first time it's gotten so long. At number one.
- 5:48Speaker 1: I can feel it, I can look down. But when
- 5:52Speaker 1: I'm when I'm riding my motorcycle, I noticed that it
- 5:55Speaker 1: does like it'll flop up and cover my It goes
- 6:01Speaker 1: all over the place, So you.
- 6:03Speaker 3: Gotta put a rubber band.
- 6:05Speaker 1: I thought about it. I thought I was telling my
- 6:08Speaker 1: wife about it. She actually reached around as a joke
- 6:11Speaker 1: and just grabbed it, like that's why we're writing. Oh,
- 6:15Speaker 1: all right, well enough about me. How are you guys doing.
- 6:20Speaker 2: We're good, I'm good man. How what are you Dan?
- 6:23Speaker 2: How are you doing?
- 6:26Speaker 3: All right? I'm looking forward to uh send the airport
- 6:29Speaker 3: for two hours too. Yeah, although the traveling, I'm not
- 6:33Speaker 3: looking forward to the traveling. The conference is in Florida,
- 6:36Speaker 3: so it's at a.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Nice so that must be rough.
- 6:42Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, it is rough. I'm gonna look. I'm gonna
- 6:45Speaker 3: look at the I'm gonna look at the agenda uh
- 6:48Speaker 3: tomorrow and figure out where where my presence is truly needed.
- 6:59Speaker 2: Oh, this looks like a gonna drink conference right here
- 7:01Speaker 2: and right. Yeah, that's awesome.
- 7:07Speaker 3: Going forward to one of my one of my co
- 7:09Speaker 3: workers from when I worked down in New York City.
- 7:13Speaker 1: She's also going cool cool you yeahs like that?
- 7:19Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, Well, let's get to the Star Trek
- 7:24Speaker 2: news because there's quite a bit.
- 7:26Speaker 1: So Star Trek news.
- 7:33Speaker 2: All right, So our first news story comes to us
- 7:36Speaker 2: from Trek Central and they have an exclusive and apparently
- 7:44Speaker 2: there is a new Star Trek series in the works,
- 7:47Speaker 2: one that we did not know about. Really, yes, so
- 7:53Speaker 2: it will be called Star Trek Starfleet Scouts. It appears
- 7:59Speaker 2: to be a family find friendly project and will be
- 8:02Speaker 2: a series of children's animated digital shorts that will air
- 8:07Speaker 2: on YouTube. So these will be straight to YouTube little
- 8:11Speaker 2: kids shorts called Starfleet Scouts.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Just what the pays we're asking for to make Paramount
- 8:17Speaker 1: a bunch of money.
- 8:18Speaker 3: You know?
- 8:19Speaker 2: I mean, that was the whole point of Prodigy, was
- 8:22Speaker 2: to bring in the kids, and they kind of gave
- 8:26Speaker 2: up on that one, right, right, So they're gonna take
- 8:31Speaker 2: another crack at it whatever. Okay, Yeah, I guess we'll
- 8:35Speaker 2: see how that happens.
- 8:36Speaker 1: But go, yeah, tell them they can go ahead and
- 8:39Speaker 1: pick crack at it.
- 8:42Speaker 3: They get all this feedback from the fans telling them
- 8:44Speaker 3: exactly what they want. Yeah, go do other stuff they
- 8:50Speaker 3: know better.
- 8:52Speaker 1: Yeah, you know what Paramount is. The three of us
- 8:57Speaker 1: are my three dads. Yeah, and put is the petulant,
- 9:03Speaker 1: recalcitrant child. They just teenager. Paramount's acting like a teenager.
- 9:13Speaker 1: I want to do what I want.
- 9:15Speaker 2: You know, it's really wild, is Paramount recently announced a
- 9:18Speaker 2: bunch of delays in films, like the new Ninja Turtles
- 9:23Speaker 2: movie is going to be delayed like nine months, the
- 9:26Speaker 2: uh what is it? The Avatar, the animated Avatar, the
- 9:31Speaker 2: Last Airbender. Guess they're doing a movie for that that's
- 9:33Speaker 2: also been delayed, and a few other things projects have
- 9:37Speaker 2: been delayed. And if you look at it, it's right
- 9:39Speaker 2: about when they think the merger is going to go
- 9:42Speaker 2: through that they're delaying these things.
- 9:44Speaker 1: So jeez. Yeah, there's also rumors then nothing will ever
- 9:50Speaker 1: get done if they're gonna wait until well let's wait
- 9:52Speaker 1: until this merger goes through. Based on what's happened with Paramount,
- 9:56Speaker 1: nothing's ever gonna get made.
- 9:57Speaker 3: Well that's like, all right, you make a deal to
- 10:01Speaker 3: sell your house. After after the deal is inked, you
- 10:05Speaker 3: don't then go out and replace the windows, right, You
- 10:08Speaker 3: don't need a roof on the house already made. Well
- 10:12Speaker 3: that's a that's a new owner problem. There. There's I
- 10:16Speaker 3: think they're kicking some of these things down the road
- 10:18Speaker 3: because well, let's let's let's spend the money in the
- 10:22Speaker 3: third quarter of next year instead, and it'll be this
- 10:26Speaker 3: other people spending their money.
- 10:27Speaker 2: Not us, right right. There's there's also reports that right
- 10:32Speaker 2: now Paramount isn't really acquiring scripts and pitching ideas or
- 10:37Speaker 2: anything like that for new product, because why would they
- 10:40Speaker 2: sink money into it. They're they're looking to get out.
- 10:42Speaker 3: So yeah, nope, I don't need I don't need an
- 10:45Speaker 3: estimate on the windows.
- 10:47Speaker 2: Yep, exactly exactly. I'm not buying windows right right. So
- 10:53Speaker 2: so yeah, so there you go, Star of Lead Scouts.
- 10:56Speaker 1: So it's on its way.
- 10:58Speaker 2: Uh next news, Yeah yeah, our next news story comes
- 11:01Speaker 2: to us from Variety and this is kind of weird
- 11:05Speaker 2: that it came out this like this, but whatever. We
- 11:07Speaker 2: have set a release date for Strange New Worlds season Yeah. Yeah,
- 11:13Speaker 2: so it will be coming out July seventeenth, So that's
- 11:19Speaker 2: pretty cool. So they're gonna do that. That is the thursday.
- 11:24Speaker 2: If I looked at the calendar, correctly. So it will
- 11:26Speaker 2: be released on is a Tribeca Film Festival, like on
- 11:30Speaker 2: a Tuesday, and then a few days later it'll be
- 11:33Speaker 2: released nationwide on Paramount Plus on the seventeenth.
- 11:37Speaker 1: So okay, there you go.
- 11:39Speaker 2: So now we know we'll finally get the end of
- 11:42Speaker 2: that cliffhanger. Did the Gorns kill the crew? And then
- 11:45Speaker 2: we have nine episodes of nothing?
- 11:47Speaker 1: Or did they rewatch season two? Because season two most
- 11:53Speaker 1: of season two except for the musical episode and the
- 11:56Speaker 1: crossover episode and a little bit of gorny stuff, I
- 12:00Speaker 1: don't remember any of it.
- 12:01Speaker 2: I you heard that they're gonna have a scratch and
- 12:03Speaker 2: sniff episode.
- 12:05Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, absolutely. I gotta see if my phone is
- 12:09Speaker 1: compatible for that.
- 12:09Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:09Speaker 2: I think if you have a paramoun Plus account, they'll
- 12:11Speaker 2: send you envelope.
- 12:15Speaker 1: Oh so we could finally finally smell what the corn
- 12:18Speaker 1: smell like.
- 12:19Speaker 2: I have no idea. I guess.
- 12:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:22Speaker 1: They probably are like snakes. They probably have secretions to
- 12:25Speaker 1: make themselves steaky.
- 12:26Speaker 2: Probably, Yeah, nobody likes secretions.
- 12:29Speaker 1: Well that's a good timing. A week before that is
- 12:32Speaker 1: when the new Superman movie comes out, and I'm actually
- 12:34Speaker 1: going to be in Lancing for the Capital City Comic
- 12:37Speaker 1: Con for for one day.
- 12:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I am so excited for that Superman movie.
- 12:44Speaker 3: I'm still not crazy about the s I'm still not
- 12:46Speaker 3: crazy about the costume mm hmm. But everything else, everything
- 12:52Speaker 3: else looks amazing.
- 12:55Speaker 1: It's funny because all the hate that this movie is getting,
- 12:59Speaker 1: like all the common that I'm looking at, they're obviously
- 13:02Speaker 1: they don't know anything about Superman. They don't They've never
- 13:04Speaker 1: read a Superman comic. I'm excited for the Superman Yeah.
- 13:11Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, all right, and then our next news story
- 13:15Speaker 2: comes to us. Who is this from? This is from Gizmoto,
- 13:19Speaker 2: And it looks like the poor kids at Star Trik
- 13:22Speaker 2: Prodigy may need a new home sotoon. So it looks
- 13:25Speaker 2: like at the end of the year, Netflix will be
- 13:30Speaker 2: done with their license for Star Trek Prodigy. And yeah,
- 13:35Speaker 2: it's not for sure that Prodigy would then return to Paramounts.
- 13:39Speaker 2: They might look for someone else to pay for it
- 13:42Speaker 2: and put it on their streaming service. So who knows.
- 13:46Speaker 1: I saw this story and my thoughts are I think
- 13:49Speaker 1: they're just trying to create like panic buzz about it, like, oh,
- 13:53Speaker 1: you know, for all the people like me who said, heya,
- 13:55Speaker 1: I'm gonna watch I'm gonna watch it. And I watched
- 13:56Speaker 1: the first season in the first episode of the second season,
- 14:00Speaker 1: and my first thought when I first started skimming this
- 14:02Speaker 1: article was, Oh, crap, I need to hurry up and
- 14:04Speaker 1: to watch Prodigy. I think that was the point of
- 14:06Speaker 1: this article.
- 14:08Speaker 2: That's kind of the point. Yeah, because you got to
- 14:11Speaker 2: the end of the year. So now it's like, okay, well.
- 14:13Speaker 1: You got to the end of the year and the
- 14:14Speaker 1: rights are gonna rights running out means almost nothing. It's
- 14:18Speaker 1: either just gonna stay on Netflix or it's gonna bounce
- 14:22Speaker 1: back to Paramount.
- 14:23Speaker 2: No, no, no, it'll go off on Netflix for sure. It's
- 14:25Speaker 2: just where they put it back on Paramount.
- 14:27Speaker 1: So okay, then it'll go on Paramount because what what
- 14:30Speaker 1: does it cost Paramount.
- 14:32Speaker 2: It'll be somewhere, Yeah, it'll be somewhere.
- 14:36Speaker 1: I mean, you go over to dance house, it's gonna
- 14:38Speaker 1: be the metal box set.
- 14:41Speaker 2: That's right, that's right, the laser is set. Yeah, yeah, absolutely,
- 14:47Speaker 2: you wouldn't got that. Yeah, all right, And we do
- 14:50Speaker 2: have one more news story. This is kind of pretty cool,
- 14:54Speaker 2: you know how we have a correspondence kind of everywhere,
- 14:57Speaker 2: and we have people who who talk to well, we
- 15:01Speaker 2: actually have somebody who went to the Star Trek FanFest,
- 15:07Speaker 2: the big one down in La Yeah, and so they
- 15:10Speaker 2: have filed the field report and I got that the
- 15:14Speaker 2: audio is a little bit glitchy. I had to use
- 15:16Speaker 2: some AI enhancement to kind of bring it out, but
- 15:20Speaker 2: but it came out pretty decent. So let me, uh,
- 15:23Speaker 2: let's play that now.
- 15:28Speaker 4: So Trick, I'm curious versus the studios at the Benfasts
- 15:34Speaker 4: that this is the last league. I just wanted to
- 15:37Speaker 4: give you a little fixture to see hi ends, so
- 15:40Speaker 4: you know that. I'm glad the Star Trek is living
- 15:42Speaker 4: along had prospering still here. I can't wait to see
- 15:47Speaker 4: the next thing they do.
- 15:50Speaker 2: So there you go. Right For those of the listening
- 15:54Speaker 2: who weren't sure that was Darren. Darren was one of
- 15:57Speaker 2: the original hosts of Trek Cast, Darren Benjamin. So yeah,
- 16:01Speaker 2: he went down there and he put on his on
- 16:04Speaker 2: his Facebook and I'm like, hey, buddy, what's up.
- 16:07Speaker 1: Yeah, Yeah, that's great, that's awesome. Yeah, that's awesome. So
- 16:12Speaker 1: there you go.
- 16:12Speaker 2: I thought that was cool. So if you woke up early,
- 16:17Speaker 2: you got that treat.
- 16:18Speaker 1: Yeah, we don't just do the show live. You also
- 16:25Speaker 1: post this on podcast apps.
- 16:27Speaker 2: Right, that's right, that's right, and it looks on YouTube
- 16:29Speaker 2: after the fact, so oh yeah, people watch it.
- 16:31Speaker 1: So I didn't. I didn't want to think that I'm
- 16:33Speaker 1: just or you know, for all I know, it's just
- 16:35Speaker 1: the three of us, and you've just convinced me that
- 16:37Speaker 1: you know, that's it.
- 16:38Speaker 2: That's all it is.
- 16:39Speaker 1: Yeah, It's like on the office when Creed asked what's
- 16:43Speaker 1: his face? To set him up with a blog? He
- 16:44Speaker 1: just set him up with a word document. Right, maybe
- 16:47Speaker 1: maybe that's what you guys are doing.
- 16:49Speaker 2: That's that's all it is. There is no show, there's
- 16:52Speaker 2: on these rules.
- 16:53Speaker 1: It's just just the three of us. This is just
- 16:55Speaker 1: a zoo zoom meeting.
- 16:57Speaker 2: That's right. That's awesome. All right, well we should probably
- 17:03Speaker 2: get to our main topic. Yeah, star Trek six, so let's.
- 17:07Speaker 5: Do that fun. Well, now come out.
- 17:15Speaker 1: That's right, tah bah bay.
- 17:19Speaker 2: That's right. Well that was awesome. Where's that d bridge
- 17:24Speaker 2: at where it was a live attraction for it? Yeah,
- 17:26Speaker 2: so it's a it's at Universal Studios in California. It's
- 17:30Speaker 2: a fan fast. It's only gonna be there for a
- 17:32Speaker 2: little while, but it is up and running. Baby.
- 17:36Speaker 1: Yeah, looks like fun.
- 17:38Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, So we are reviewing Star Trek six
- 17:43Speaker 2: The Undiscovered Country. This movie originally came out in nineteen
- 17:48Speaker 2: ninety one. Hold were you guys in nineteen ninety one?
- 17:53Speaker 2: Oh hot?
- 17:56Speaker 1: Yeah? Was I born? Dan? I don't think you were
- 17:59Speaker 1: born yet. I don't think we're yet.
- 18:02Speaker 2: It was released just under six nineteen ninety one, if
- 18:04Speaker 2: that helps.
- 18:06Speaker 1: Okay, I was thirteen, you're thirteen, I saw. I just
- 18:11Speaker 1: started becoming a Star Trek fan around this time, so
- 18:14Speaker 1: I did not see this in the theaters.
- 18:16Speaker 3: Okay, sotter with with my friend Rob Schweitzer. Oh nice,
- 18:22Speaker 3: remember of the Facebook group. I don't know if he
- 18:23Speaker 3: listens to the show religiously, but yeah, I see this together.
- 18:28Speaker 2: Oh cool.
- 18:31Speaker 1: This is the movie though that I've probably seen them.
- 18:34Speaker 1: It's a toss up between this and First Contact, although
- 18:38Speaker 1: probably this because I've been watching it for a longer
- 18:40Speaker 1: period of time. Uh, this is the one that I
- 18:46Speaker 1: watch over and over and over again. My buddy Gabe
- 18:49Speaker 1: and I would would, you know, hang out and eat popcorn,
- 18:51Speaker 1: drink sodas and just watch this movie. Like anytime he
- 18:54Speaker 1: came over, It's like, what movie do you want to watch?
- 18:56Speaker 1: And we would go through the list, and it's like,
- 18:58Speaker 1: let's just go with that favorite staple. Watched Underscopper Country,
- 19:01Speaker 1: you know, so.
- 19:04Speaker 2: Rd on Yeah, no, this this movie is great.
- 19:09Speaker 1: Uh.
- 19:10Speaker 2: It saw the return of Nicholas Meyer as the writer
- 19:15Speaker 2: and director yep, which was interesting. It is a story
- 19:21Speaker 2: though by Leonard Nimoy, Lawrence Corner, and Mark Rosenhaal. So
- 19:27Speaker 2: that's interesting.
- 19:29Speaker 1: Yeah, a lot of interesting talent coming together. You know.
- 19:35Speaker 1: I had a I had copious amounts of notes that
- 19:37Speaker 1: I had on on my phone, but unfortunately I have
- 19:40Speaker 1: to use my phone to do the podcast because I
- 19:43Speaker 1: don't have any power.
- 19:44Speaker 3: The same thing, I took notes on my phone and realized.
- 19:52Speaker 2: He was nine years old when the movie came out.
- 19:54Speaker 3: So there you go.
- 19:54Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, okay, so well let's let's kind of kind
- 19:59Speaker 2: of go through what it was about. I do have
- 20:02Speaker 2: the Rotten Tomato scores too if you want.
- 20:05Speaker 1: Oh yeah, not real quick.
- 20:06Speaker 2: All right, well let's do that real quick. So this
- 20:09Speaker 2: movie has a critics score of eighty three percent a
- 20:14Speaker 2: viewer's score of eighty four, so pretty much right in
- 20:17Speaker 2: line with each other. Really, it's rare that it gets
- 20:20Speaker 2: that even between the two.
- 20:22Speaker 1: I still think I think that's even underrated.
- 20:24Speaker 2: I think so too. I think you should be in
- 20:26Speaker 2: the nineties.
- 20:27Speaker 1: It should definitely be in the nineties. This is Yeah,
- 20:29Speaker 1: this is probably one of the more perfect Star Trek movies.
- 20:32Speaker 1: I mean not that it was. There was a lot
- 20:34Speaker 1: of things wrong with it, but it was you know,
- 20:38Speaker 1: everything came together and worked beautifully. And I'm not talking
- 20:42Speaker 1: about you know, the nitpicks of whatever, you know, production
- 20:44Speaker 1: issues or or or there was a camera like a
- 20:47Speaker 1: wire or you know you can visible or you know,
- 20:50Speaker 1: boom mic can see, but just as far as how
- 20:52Speaker 1: everything eventually came together. Yeah, story wise, visual the music
- 20:57Speaker 1: was fantastic. Yeah, you know the visual effects for nineteen
- 21:03Speaker 1: ninety one, you know, the practice effects of the moon exploding.
- 21:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:09Speaker 3: Even even from the initial opening, the opening credits, it
- 21:12Speaker 3: was just a very slow, ominous type of music and
- 21:16Speaker 3: it really set the tone that this is not your
- 21:20Speaker 3: typical science fiction film. This is more of a political,
- 21:25Speaker 3: you know, thriller type movie.
- 21:28Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:29Speaker 3: Yeah, feel feel like a Star Trek movie. But it
- 21:33Speaker 3: totally was right.
- 21:39Speaker 2: I I think what was great about this movie is
- 21:43Speaker 2: it was it was kind of it was very cool
- 21:48Speaker 2: that it wasn't like this giant intergalactic threat, but a
- 21:52Speaker 2: threat to the Federation, like it was smaller scale but important.
- 21:57Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:57Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, and it wasn't just well you know it was.
- 22:01Speaker 1: It was a conspiracy. Yeah yeah, it was a conspiracy. Yeah. So,
- 22:08Speaker 1: and I'm not really I'm usually not the conspiracy you know,
- 22:11Speaker 1: I usually don't go for those kinds of things. But
- 22:14Speaker 1: the way they did it, I really like.
- 22:17Speaker 2: So yeah, yeah, so you should probably get into a
- 22:22Speaker 2: little bit of what was about.
- 22:24Speaker 6: So basically, it turks out there is an explosion on
- 22:28Speaker 6: the tool on Moon of Practice, reverberates around the whole galaxy,
- 22:36Speaker 6: and it ends up put the thing on.
- 22:39Speaker 2: So much money on your friend, I have nothing left
- 22:43Speaker 2: and they don't have.
- 22:45Speaker 3: Enough to You're coming in real muffled.
- 22:47Speaker 1: Okay, that's not just me. Yeah, I think whenever you scroll.
- 22:53Speaker 2: Okay, do you guys want to do Okay, do you
- 22:56Speaker 2: want to do the the reecap?
- 23:00Speaker 3: Yeah, I'll recap it. There's the Klingon moonl Noble, right,
- 23:07Speaker 3: and it explodes because of lacks safety protocols and I
- 23:12Speaker 3: I'm sorry, I'm confusing. That was real life. Uh yeah,
- 23:15Speaker 3: So the Klingon Moon of Practice explodes due to overmining.
- 23:20Speaker 3: It taxes the Klingon economy to the point where they
- 23:23Speaker 3: can't maintain their current level of military spending, so they're
- 23:26Speaker 3: forced to negotiate peace with the Federation.
- 23:31Speaker 1: UH.
- 23:32Speaker 3: The elements within the Klingon Empire and within the Federation
- 23:37Speaker 3: that do not want peace, They want to maintain the
- 23:39Speaker 3: status quo, and those elements conspire to first murder the
- 23:46Speaker 3: Klingon Chancellor UH and then later tryumph murder the Federation
- 23:53Speaker 3: President and the Klingons continue. Captain Kirk framed for the
- 24:00Speaker 3: murder of the Klingon Chancellor, he's sent to a Klington prison.
- 24:05Speaker 3: He escapes, he's rescued by the Enterprise, and now the
- 24:09Speaker 3: Enterprise is in a race against time to get to
- 24:12Speaker 3: the peace conference to save the Chancellor's daughter and the
- 24:16Speaker 3: Federation President before they are before they are assassinated. At
- 24:23Speaker 3: the same time they're trying, the crew of the Enterprise
- 24:25Speaker 3: is trying to figure out who murdered the Klington Chancellor,
- 24:29Speaker 3: and the assassins are aboard the ship. Hilarity ensues. That's right, Yeah,
- 24:38Speaker 3: that was a terrible synopsis.
- 24:40Speaker 1: No, no, you did. You did ten times better than that.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Took me an hour to do Star Trek two, So
- 24:45Speaker 1: let me let me continue on from from that, because
- 24:48Speaker 1: your your audio was getting just a little bit choppy.
- 24:51Speaker 1: So yeah, so they're they're they're trying to figure out
- 24:53Speaker 1: who the assassins are. It turns out there were two
- 24:55Speaker 1: uh starfleet crewmen who were responsible for the actual assassination. Uh,
- 25:01Speaker 1: but it was Lieutenant Valeris that was sort of on
- 25:05Speaker 1: the ship as a co conspirator. She's the one that
- 25:08Speaker 1: that that had the crewmen beam aboard the Gordon ship
- 25:12Speaker 1: to kill him. And she is also a co conspirator
- 25:16Speaker 1: along with the romul An ambassador, a starfleet a star
- 25:24Speaker 1: Fleet admiral. Yeah, Ben's Ben Cisco's father run a restaurant,
- 25:31Speaker 1: yes exactly, Yeah, in New Orleans. And so they figure
- 25:36Speaker 1: out what's going on. Now they have to stop them.
- 25:39Speaker 1: There's a klingon bird of prey that can fire why
- 25:41Speaker 1: cloak while cloaked the first last and I believe only
- 25:44Speaker 1: time that's ever been shown in Star Trek. And yeah,
- 25:48Speaker 1: and so you know, like Dan said, it's a race
- 25:50Speaker 1: against time. They get to the peace conference. Uh, the
- 25:52Speaker 1: Excelsior gets there to help out. Uh, they're able to
- 25:57Speaker 1: figure out how to locate this bird of prey, destroy it.
- 26:01Speaker 1: Bach Taka Bay to be or not to be? He
- 26:05Speaker 1: changed dies the Klingon co conspirator. They beamed down to
- 26:09Speaker 1: the to the peace conference, just in time for Scotti
- 26:13Speaker 1: to kill Odo, although that's not shown on screen in
- 26:17Speaker 1: the theatrical version. The Klingon who is trying to assassinate
- 26:22Speaker 1: the Federation president was played by Renee abu Zua, who
- 26:27Speaker 1: played Odo, but that's not shown in the theatrical release
- 26:31Speaker 1: nor the initial DVD release. It's only shown in the
- 26:35Speaker 1: director's cut. And there are, by Mike count three different
- 26:40Speaker 1: versions of this movie. There's the theatrical cut which doesn't
- 26:46Speaker 1: show It doesn't show Colonel West at all. It doesn't
- 26:52Speaker 1: show the scene I saw the theatrical version. It does
- 26:55Speaker 1: not show the scene where they're talking about we can
- 26:58Speaker 1: go in rescue the hostages and be out the minimal
- 27:00Speaker 1: amount of loss of equipment in personnel, and then the
- 27:03Speaker 1: President says, you know what about a full scale of war,
- 27:07Speaker 1: and that's when Colonel West's frankly, sir, we can clean
- 27:09Speaker 1: their chronometers. That was not in the original cut, nor
- 27:12Speaker 1: was peeling back the mask and revealing Colonel West and
- 27:16Speaker 1: Colonel War saying this is not kind of gone blood
- 27:18Speaker 1: none of that's they had for release. There's another release
- 27:22Speaker 1: where when Valerius is being falcon mind raped by Spock,
- 27:29Speaker 1: where as she's mentioning the co conspirators, there's a flashback
- 27:36Speaker 1: scene for each one, and that's only in the DVD
- 27:42Speaker 1: re release special edition. Okay, okay, And then there's the
- 27:47Speaker 1: director's cut, which doesn't show the flashbags. Have you ever
- 27:51Speaker 1: seen this the flashbacks? She goes rough melin Ambassador and
- 27:55Speaker 1: as she says it, Okay, I'll have to do because
- 28:01Speaker 1: the last time I watched this movie, that's what I saw.
- 28:03Speaker 3: Okay, I've never seen the flashbacks, but I don't doubt
- 28:07Speaker 3: it because what I've noticed in this movie, there's a
- 28:11Speaker 3: lot of remind the viewer, Yeah, yeah, remind them. Remind
- 28:18Speaker 3: you when when when Sulu. When Sulu orders his UH
- 28:24Speaker 3: Operations officer or whatever to send a message to UH
- 28:29Speaker 3: to the Enterprise and tell them that we're you know,
- 28:31Speaker 3: we're standing by to he then you know, tell them
- 28:37Speaker 3: sign the message Captain Sulu, commander of we know you are,
- 28:41Speaker 3: we know you are. You just sign your emails. Okay,
- 28:47Speaker 3: you know we can look at the email address and
- 28:49Speaker 3: see who who said right, But it's It's one of
- 28:51Speaker 3: these things where, all right, the the Excelsior Bridge looks
- 28:55Speaker 3: a lot like the Enterprise Bridge. They're all wearing the
- 28:57Speaker 3: same uniform. We need to remind the casual viewer who
- 29:01Speaker 3: this guy is, what his part of the story is.
- 29:06Speaker 3: So the fact that they in some flashbacks, Colonel West,
- 29:09Speaker 3: this is the romulent ambassador. This is who this is.
- 29:12Speaker 3: I can understand them doing that now. On the contrary,
- 29:15Speaker 3: when I saw this as a kid, I was confused
- 29:22Speaker 3: about who the president was the President of the Federation,
- 29:26Speaker 3: because look, he looks like an old Klingon, right, he
- 29:32Speaker 3: has white hair, he's got some subdued ridges on his head,
- 29:37Speaker 3: he's got a Fu Manchu mustache. Okay, And as a
- 29:46Speaker 3: you know, fourteen year old, when I didn't exactly know
- 29:48Speaker 3: what exactly is an ambassador and whatnot, you get the
- 29:50Speaker 3: Klingon ambassador talking to him like he's somewhat important. I'm like,
- 29:54Speaker 3: all right, is that his boss? Is he another?
- 29:56Speaker 1: Right? Relationships?
- 30:00Speaker 3: Well, And there was another thing in the first season
- 30:03Speaker 3: of TNG which was fresh in my mind at that point.
- 30:07Speaker 3: There's a conversation between Wesley, Crushed, Sure and war where
- 30:14Speaker 3: Crusher says something Wolf's talking about something in Klingon recent
- 30:18Speaker 3: Klingon history, and Wesley says something like, oh, was that
- 30:22Speaker 3: before the Klingons joined the federation. So in the original
- 30:26Speaker 3: Bible for TNG, the Klingons had joined the Federation at
- 30:30Speaker 3: that point. That's why Wharf was in Starfleet and not
- 30:35Speaker 3: in the Klingon Defense Force. And somewhere along the way
- 30:39Speaker 3: they decided, Nope, no, Klingons are just you know, they're
- 30:42Speaker 3: still yeah, well Klingons. He was adopted, that's why he's
- 30:48Speaker 3: in that uniform one. But that line still exists. It
- 30:51Speaker 3: makes no sense, but that line still exists. So I
- 30:53Speaker 3: had remembered, oh, okay, well the Klanyons joined the federation
- 30:56Speaker 3: at some point. Is are they part of the federation?
- 30:58Speaker 3: Is this president a Klingon? It was very confusing, so.
- 31:04Speaker 2: Yeah, no, it was still It was so confusing to
- 31:06Speaker 2: the fact that even when they brought back that species
- 31:09Speaker 2: in Discovery as a librarian, we all.
- 31:13Speaker 1: Were confused, right, Oh, that's what what is that species?
- 31:17Speaker 1: Called alesion alicia something like that. But they could have
- 31:22Speaker 1: fit that Wesley line. They could have fixed that with
- 31:24Speaker 1: one word, just change out one word. Is that before
- 31:28Speaker 1: the Klingons aligned with the Federation, right right, yeah, so
- 31:36Speaker 1: I think they should. I think they should. Yeah, yeah,
- 31:44Speaker 1: Efrosians awaiting games that yeah, a Frosians. Yeah. And he
- 31:50Speaker 1: said the way they picked the Frosians was a strange design,
- 31:53Speaker 1: yea a strange design that they do look like Klingons.
- 31:56Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, it's just funny. So you have a
- 31:59Speaker 3: non human as the as the president of the Federation, right,
- 32:04Speaker 3: But then this meeting at the beginning of the movie
- 32:09Speaker 3: where Kirk is given this ship assignment that he doesn't want.
- 32:14Speaker 3: Those are all high ranking Starfleet officials except for the
- 32:17Speaker 3: crew of the Enterprise. Every one of them is human.
- 32:21Speaker 2: A waiting game is asking for alert. Awaiting game is
- 32:28Speaker 2: a need alert. It's a NERD alert. Yeah yeah, I
- 32:33Speaker 2: mean you're gonna now hold on warning.
- 32:36Speaker 1: Warning, NERD alert, NERD alert. Hold on there, Dan. How
- 32:44Speaker 1: do we know that some of those council, some of
- 32:47Speaker 1: those Starfleet high ranking officials weren't Betazoid or uh, you know,
- 32:55Speaker 1: maybe any other human looking ray. I mean it could
- 33:01Speaker 1: have been humans in betazoides.
- 33:03Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, I was gonna ask you, would you
- 33:06Speaker 3: because the people don't tell people. So if they want,
- 33:10Speaker 3: if they wanted, if they wanted, there were aliens. They
- 33:14Speaker 3: would have made them. They would have made them aliens.
- 33:16Speaker 3: They would have made it.
- 33:17Speaker 1: Could have been trill surgically altered Klingons.
- 33:21Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, could have been sure.
- 33:24Speaker 1: There wasn't a high death back then. I have been
- 33:27Speaker 1: some Valcans in there. Okay. So, uh, just to read
- 33:33Speaker 1: just the last five minutes of the film. Uh, they
- 33:36Speaker 1: are able to get to the peace conference in time.
- 33:40Speaker 1: They beam in, They pushed the crowd. Jim Kirk himself
- 33:44Speaker 1: throws the president down from the podium.
- 33:47Speaker 4: Uh.
- 33:48Speaker 1: Scottie kicks a door down. I just noticed this is
- 33:52Speaker 1: the very first time he doesn't open that. He doesn't
- 33:55Speaker 1: kick the door open. He kicks the door down right
- 33:57Speaker 1: off its hinges and shoots the right yeah. Oh yeah,
- 34:04Speaker 1: and and so he gets down. Another thing that I
- 34:07Speaker 1: that I noticed on IMDb on Under the Nitpicks, when
- 34:12Speaker 1: Scotty's on the Enterprise during the battle with Chang, he's
- 34:16Speaker 1: wearing a U Engineer outfit. When he beams down, he's
- 34:20Speaker 1: wearing a typical star for uniform. So he's like, if
- 34:24Speaker 1: I'm going to be the president, I've got to look good. Yes,
- 34:28Speaker 1: he changes this to a regular uniform.
- 34:31Speaker 5: Uh.
- 34:31Speaker 1: And then and then you know, the chaos sort of
- 34:34Speaker 1: settles down, and all the coke conspirators are sort of there,
- 34:38Speaker 1: and they're all looking down as if they're you know,
- 34:40Speaker 1: hiding their head, you know, hanging their heads in shame.
- 34:43Speaker 1: And then as a boord, the new Klingon Chancellor, the
- 34:46Speaker 1: new female Klingon Chancellor, is, uh, you know what's the
- 34:51Speaker 1: meaning to this? Kirk explains, you know, your father called
- 34:55Speaker 1: the future the undiscovered country, and you know, she says,
- 34:59Speaker 1: you've restored my father. There's faith and he says, you
- 35:01Speaker 1: have restored my son. So and then they go to
- 35:04Speaker 1: fly off in the sunset, they get a last minute
- 35:06Speaker 1: call from uh Starfleet saying you've been decommissioned. Report back
- 35:10Speaker 1: to Starfleet, which I don't know how Starfley thought that
- 35:13Speaker 1: was gonna go, but uh, this is James Kirk we're
- 35:15Speaker 1: talking about. So he basically just uh, you know, check
- 35:19Speaker 1: out says what's your orders course setting, and and he
- 35:22Speaker 1: uh just said he basically peter pans it and says
- 35:25Speaker 1: second started the write straight on until morning and that's it.
- 35:27Speaker 1: And then we have the the signature autograph send off
- 35:31Speaker 1: of the cast.
- 35:34Speaker 2: I was thinking as I was watching that, like, imagine
- 35:36Speaker 2: like you're the interns. It's your first ship.
- 35:42Speaker 1: Yes, yes, Dan, Yeah, Dan was gonna say something Tooe.
- 35:46Speaker 3: No, go ahead, okay started No.
- 35:49Speaker 2: Just imagine like that's your first news ship and all
- 35:51Speaker 2: of a sudden you're like, wait, these old people are
- 35:53Speaker 2: just taking off, We're never going back. What's going on?
- 35:58Speaker 1: I had another issue with with the whole in three months.
- 36:02Speaker 1: This crew is due to stand down in three months. Yeah,
- 36:04Speaker 1: they all have their own careers start dates, day's days
- 36:10Speaker 1: they listed, Like, that's not the way it works on
- 36:13Speaker 1: any other Naval Space Force nasubmission. You've got everybody there
- 36:22Speaker 1: has their own career and their own retirement date. They're
- 36:25Speaker 1: not going to all retire at the same time or
- 36:28Speaker 1: stand down at the same time. They're gonna get replacements
- 36:31Speaker 1: at different times.
- 36:32Speaker 2: Yeah, it's staggered.
- 36:33Speaker 1: So so that's the only they do that.
- 36:40Speaker 3: I think they're talking about. The ship is going to
- 36:43Speaker 3: be decommissioned in three months, so the crew is going
- 36:46Speaker 3: to go their separate ways in three months. And at
- 36:48Speaker 3: the end of the movie, the ship is not being
- 36:51Speaker 3: decommissioned in three months because the Bird of Prey just
- 36:53Speaker 3: shot the shit out of it. It's being decommissioned now
- 36:56Speaker 3: now that's how I always interpreted that.
- 36:59Speaker 1: Okay, all right, I can I can dig that.
- 37:02Speaker 2: Who was the other thing you were gonna say?
- 37:04Speaker 7: So, best line in the movie, best line in the
- 37:06Speaker 7: movie arrest that man, arrest, just sell, arrest, just slf,
- 37:12Speaker 7: which I always thought that Bones said that.
- 37:15Speaker 1: I don't think so. I think that was Spot that
- 37:17Speaker 1: said that.
- 37:20Speaker 2: Do you do you guys agree with me that it
- 37:22Speaker 2: is a really sad just have missed opportunity to not
- 37:29Speaker 2: have Dom Delawiz play the president in Speed.
- 37:35Speaker 1: Why.
- 37:38Speaker 2: I just feel like that that should have happened.
- 37:41Speaker 1: Oh goodness. I I I did want the I did
- 37:45Speaker 1: want the Federation plant president to at one point just
- 37:48Speaker 1: look at any of the ambassadors go, you know, and
- 37:53Speaker 1: they're like say a line something like, you know, mister president,
- 37:57Speaker 1: of those men have literally saved this planet and and
- 37:59Speaker 1: the president it goes, and now they're going to do
- 38:01Speaker 1: it again by standing trial, dumb ass.
- 38:04Speaker 2: That's right. Which edition has the president wanting to kill rebel?
- 38:10Speaker 1: God? Right? Yeah?
- 38:15Speaker 3: I want the president to walk in and say, bitches.
- 38:20Speaker 1: Leave, can you fly?
- 38:24Speaker 2: Ambassador? I'll buy that for a dollar.
- 38:30Speaker 1: Yeah. Oh god, we should review RoboCop on this show.
- 38:33Speaker 2: Oh god, yes, that'd be great.
- 38:36Speaker 1: That'd be a good supple metal.
- 38:39Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it would.
- 38:41Speaker 1: So what are our thoughts any any final thoughts as
- 38:44Speaker 1: far as like what we think about the movie? Obviously
- 38:47Speaker 1: I loved it. It was great, you know Martya the
- 38:53Speaker 1: comelloid and just the real pente. All the sets, the
- 38:57Speaker 1: scenes were fantastic.
- 39:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I loved it. We did get a brief cameon
- 39:03Speaker 2: from Christian Slater and half the movie.
- 39:06Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, Christian Slater, yep, yeah, my video.
- 39:16Speaker 2: You might need to reset to catch back up.
- 39:20Speaker 1: Christmas Slater was paid seven hundred and fifty dollars. You
- 39:23Speaker 1: got to check for seven hundred and fifty dollars for
- 39:25Speaker 1: this movie. Yeah, apparently it's still framed on his wall.
- 39:29Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the rumor. According to IMDb, there is a
- 39:33Speaker 2: quote from a BBC interview where Christian Slater, I guess
- 39:36Speaker 2: got to wear uh William Shatner's pants from Ratacon. So
- 39:40Speaker 2: he said it was an honor to get into Shatner's pants.
- 39:43Speaker 1: Oh yeah, that's right.
- 39:44Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, there we go. There's dan.
- 39:48Speaker 3: Has that any better?
- 39:49Speaker 2: That's better? Yeah?
- 39:50Speaker 3: Yeah, oh much better.
- 39:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 39:52Speaker 3: So Valarous in the original draft, I was supposed to
- 40:02Speaker 3: be Savog right, and they decided to change the character
- 40:08Speaker 3: because you know, we've kind of grown to love Savog.
- 40:13Speaker 1: Roden Berry objected either Nick Meyer. Roddenberry objected. Yeah, so,
- 40:21Speaker 1: and Roddenberry was I was present for this film, for
- 40:25Speaker 1: the making of this film for a little bit. Uh,
- 40:27Speaker 1: he was in failing health. He was confined to a
- 40:29Speaker 1: wheelchair oxygen tank. In fact, he had a little bit
- 40:33Speaker 1: of an argument with Nick Meyer about some part of
- 40:37Speaker 1: the production and uh he apparently Roddenberry died two days later,
- 40:42Speaker 1: and it was unbeknownst to nick Meyer that he was
- 40:46Speaker 1: in such frail hell. Yeah, but this is the last
- 40:50Speaker 1: Star Trek project that Roddenberry was involved in. Mm hm.
- 40:54Speaker 3: So I I could only read some of What was
- 40:57Speaker 3: that last message that came up? I think it was
- 41:00Speaker 3: about the mind.
- 41:01Speaker 2: Yeah, the moment when Spock, uh forces of Mind melt
- 41:04Speaker 2: on Valerius was shocking, but it showed how out of
- 41:07Speaker 2: character that was for Spock.
- 41:10Speaker 1: Yeah, Spock did not want to do that. I would
- 41:12Speaker 1: imagine that's probably taboo on Balkan. But you know, this
- 41:16Speaker 1: was a lot was at stake, and I think Spock
- 41:18Speaker 1: just had a decision to make.
- 41:20Speaker 2: You know, Yeah, they needed the info.
- 41:26Speaker 1: Like my shirt says, you know, check yourself before you
- 41:30Speaker 1: wreck yourself.
- 41:35Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, yeah, right, well yeah, so overall we I
- 41:40Speaker 2: it sounds like we liked it.
- 41:42Speaker 3: So Spot did a couple of things that were out
- 41:44Speaker 3: of character. The scene in the in the infirmary.
- 41:49Speaker 2: At night, when she, oh, we're losing Dan again.
- 41:58Speaker 3: Again.
- 41:59Speaker 1: I think what he's going to talk about? This scene
- 42:02Speaker 1: in the infirmary where they it took me until I
- 42:05Speaker 1: was in my forties to figure out what the hell
- 42:07Speaker 1: was going on. So when when Kirk and McCoy first
- 42:11Speaker 1: beam aboard the ship, they're trying to figure out how
- 42:12Speaker 1: they're going to catch this, these these perps, these assassins,
- 42:16Speaker 1: and it was always confusing to me exactly what was
- 42:19Speaker 1: going on. Just as they're talking about it, they come
- 42:23Speaker 1: across Burke and Sogno, and that's when Kirk has the
- 42:28Speaker 1: idea of how can we catch the intruder or how
- 42:31Speaker 1: can we catch the assassin? And that's when they have
- 42:33Speaker 1: somebody over the intercom say, hey, court reporter, we need
- 42:37Speaker 1: you to report the sick bay because Burke and Sognia
- 42:40Speaker 1: need to make a statement alerting Valaris that oh maybe
- 42:44Speaker 1: I didn't maybe they I didn't do a good enough
- 42:46Speaker 1: job of killing them, and then going into sick Bay.
- 42:50Speaker 1: And then that's when Spock turns on the light and
- 42:53Speaker 1: it Spock and Spock's pissed. You can see that, you
- 42:56Speaker 1: can hear the anger in his voice. He is very
- 42:59Speaker 1: angry because his his successor, this person that he's mentored
- 43:03Speaker 1: has has is betrayed him and betrayed starkly betrayed the Federation.
- 43:08Speaker 1: And he says, you have to shoot. If you're logical,
- 43:12Speaker 1: you've already you know. She's like, I don't want to,
- 43:14Speaker 1: and he's like, it doesn't matter what you want, what
- 43:17Speaker 1: you've chosen. This, just this choice to betray the Federation,
- 43:21Speaker 1: to betray the uniform, to betray me is what is
- 43:26Speaker 1: important to you, apparently now. And then he smacks the
- 43:29Speaker 1: phaser out of her hand, which was an uncharacteristic angry
- 43:34Speaker 1: sort of response. I mean, he was angry when he
- 43:36Speaker 1: smacked that phaser out of it, and the human side
- 43:38Speaker 1: was getting out there, you know, very much, so very much.
- 43:41Speaker 2: So you know what's funny too, She's supposed to be
- 43:46Speaker 2: his successor, right. We do have that scene where they're
- 43:49Speaker 2: in his quarters. He's in his pajamas, basically.
- 43:53Speaker 1: He's given they're having a sexy drink.
- 43:56Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, it's like, what's going on your spock.
- 44:01Speaker 1: Apparently he's into younger women because you know, Savag was
- 44:04Speaker 1: much younger, although he was a teenager at the time.
- 44:06Speaker 2: But you know that's right, that's right.
- 44:08Speaker 3: His body's only about four years old at that point.
- 44:12Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, oh yeah, that's true.
- 44:15Speaker 1: He was rocking the cradle.
- 44:16Speaker 3: Now she's a vulcan, Vulcan cougar.
- 44:21Speaker 2: He likes the.
- 44:23Speaker 1: Vulcan Kruger. She's probably only, like you know, in this movie,
- 44:27Speaker 1: she's probably only sixty. That was a great scene where
- 44:32Speaker 1: at the beginning where uh Kirk says you piloted well
- 44:35Speaker 1: Off out of space dock because she's like, thanks, I've
- 44:37Speaker 1: always wanted to try that.
- 44:41Speaker 3: Yeah, so didn't Savog pilot the ship out of space? Doc?
- 44:48Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 44:50Speaker 3: Okay, so is I think this is another one of
- 44:53Speaker 3: those uh tell the casual viewer this, this is not Savag.
- 44:57Speaker 1: This is a different car, right right, yeah, yeah. Yeah.
- 45:03Speaker 2: The other thing I thought was funny is in both
- 45:06Speaker 2: Nicholas Myer films, the villain is quoting stuff all the time, right,
- 45:13Speaker 2: so con was quoting Moby Dick Chang is quoting Shakespeare,
- 45:18Speaker 2: so very clearly Nicholas Myra equates intelligence with quoting. Yeah,
- 45:23Speaker 2: that's his clue for audiences. I thought that was funny, but.
- 45:29Speaker 1: You've truly never experienced Shakespeare list until you've heard it
- 45:31Speaker 1: in the original Klingon that's right.
- 45:35Speaker 3: Yeah, that never made sense to me, that whole Nope, no, no,
- 45:40Speaker 3: and he did it more than one thing.
- 45:41Speaker 1: Uh, Spock says, you know, uh, oh, there's an old
- 45:46Speaker 1: Balkan proverb only Nixon could go to China, that's right.
- 45:51Speaker 1: And then he also attributes something else that's not Balkany.
- 45:53Speaker 1: He says, an old ancestor mind maintained that if you
- 45:57Speaker 1: eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.
- 46:00Speaker 1: That's Arthur Conan Doyle, right, that's that's Sherlock Holmes. Yeah.
- 46:05Speaker 1: So apparently Balcans and Klingons like to appropriate other father
- 46:11Speaker 1: people's literature.
- 46:14Speaker 3: Sposhuman So that's that's Amanda's great great grant great grandfather was.
- 46:19Speaker 1: Arthur, and not just literature, but like only Nixon it
- 46:23Speaker 1: could go to China. Like was that event so important
- 46:27Speaker 1: that even the Balcans like know about it?
- 46:29Speaker 2: Look it up?
- 46:31Speaker 3: Yeah? Yeah, yeah, what do you what do you think
- 46:36Speaker 3: about that mind meld scene at the end when they
- 46:39Speaker 3: need to get the uh they need to get information
- 46:42Speaker 3: from Volaris and and Spock mind melds with her against her,
- 46:46Speaker 3: against her will.
- 46:48Speaker 1: And they wouldn't have done it today. I don't think
- 46:51Speaker 1: so they wouldn't have done it today. No, because I
- 46:53Speaker 1: think back then nobody like. The first thing I thought
- 46:56Speaker 1: when I was watching it was it felt rapey. Yeah,
- 47:01Speaker 1: and I mean I understand you know that that brings
- 47:05Speaker 1: all kinds of ethical questions. You know, would would would
- 47:10Speaker 1: an assault like that? Is? It's an assault? Okay, Obviously
- 47:14Speaker 1: she was petrified, she didn't want to do it, you know,
- 47:17Speaker 1: towards the end she looked like she was being tortured. So,
- 47:21Speaker 1: you know, in in twenty twenty five, I don't think
- 47:24Speaker 1: they would have done that scene.
- 47:28Speaker 3: So I don't think I quite equate it to rape.
- 47:33Speaker 3: I think I'm more equated with Kay. Yeah. And my
- 47:40Speaker 3: question is, ah, you know, if the states are high enough,
- 47:52Speaker 3: what are you willing on? My question is this, Scott,
- 47:54Speaker 3: your father, someone has your child held hostage and you
- 48:01Speaker 3: have a guy who knows where they are. Are you
- 48:05Speaker 3: going to dangle him off a roof to get that information. Yeah,
- 48:09Speaker 3: my kids all that they're off.
- 48:11Speaker 2: Yeah, there you go.
- 48:12Speaker 1: I'll live at the consequence later. I'll sort that out
- 48:15Speaker 1: with my God at whatever time. Yeah.
- 48:18Speaker 3: And so for years people I've seen people talk about
- 48:22Speaker 3: this and they say, oh, you know, it's it's torture
- 48:25Speaker 3: and they could never do this and it's terrible and
- 48:27Speaker 3: blah blah blah blah blah, and you know, it's illegal
- 48:30Speaker 3: and they broke rules and this, that and the other thing.
- 48:33Speaker 3: You know, there's a legal concept called the lesser of
- 48:35Speaker 3: two evils doctrine that if you commit an evil to
- 48:40Speaker 3: prevent an even worse evil from happening or continuing, it's
- 48:46Speaker 3: justification for your acts. So, you know, they knew that
- 48:51Speaker 3: the president was going to be assassinated and that it
- 48:56Speaker 3: would plunge the galaxy into continued war.
- 49:02Speaker 1: Right.
- 49:03Speaker 2: I I think if you were going to write that today.
- 49:07Speaker 3: No hands on her face her?
- 49:09Speaker 1: Yeah, mine the ship out of her. That needs to
- 49:13Speaker 1: get out of a T shirt. I'm gonna.
- 49:18Speaker 2: I think if you were going to write that scene today,
- 49:21Speaker 2: you would do a quick exchange. We're like, look, you
- 49:24Speaker 2: better tell us what we want to know, or we're
- 49:26Speaker 2: gonna mind meld you like you almost put it on her,
- 49:30Speaker 2: you know, like.
- 49:33Speaker 1: We don't want to do this, we have no no,
- 49:35Speaker 1: no not.
- 49:38Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I think you would, you would do something
- 49:44Speaker 2: like that, but.
- 49:48Speaker 1: I don't know. So two evils make a right, two
- 49:53Speaker 1: evils make it right? Yeah, all right, that's that's an
- 49:58Speaker 1: ethical that's an ethical dilemma.
- 50:00Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, I like, uh, that's the best Star Trek though,
- 50:05Speaker 2: when there's an ethical dilemma and what do you do?
- 50:09Speaker 1: You know? So, oh, I just thought of something. The
- 50:13Speaker 1: guy that played the warden, I guess he was a
- 50:16Speaker 1: warden at Ropente. That was uh, that was Data's grandfather. Oh,
- 50:23Speaker 1: from the Shinzoid Man. Okay, yes, okay, pretty cool? Who
- 50:31Speaker 1: transferred to It's the episode where the old man transferred
- 50:34Speaker 1: his consciousness and the Data's body. Yeah okay, all right,
- 50:38Speaker 1: same actor.
- 50:40Speaker 3: I thought that was the skits thought was pronounced sitzoid, schizoid.
- 50:44Speaker 1: I don't know how to pronounce it. Schizoid.
- 50:47Speaker 2: Is that I haven't seen.
- 50:49Speaker 1: Remember when I recall these episode names, I'm recalling them
- 50:54Speaker 1: from fourteen year old me who read it as you know,
- 50:58Speaker 1: the the shinyz oid Man. You know, I didn't, I
- 51:02Speaker 1: couldn't I can't read now, I can barely read back
- 51:05Speaker 1: then the Schizoid Man. Yeah, I think that's season two.
- 51:15Speaker 3: Yeah, I rarely, I rarely watched. I rarely watched rewatch
- 51:21Speaker 3: seasons one and two. I write the season three, yeah.
- 51:25Speaker 1: Right, yeah, the rewatch right. I'm still I'm still in
- 51:28Speaker 1: the middle of the original series, and I've made a
- 51:30Speaker 1: decision about my rewatch of Star Trek. You know, I
- 51:35Speaker 1: I've got to I I believe that not only am
- 51:39Speaker 1: I going to finish the original series, but I'm also
- 51:42Speaker 1: going to watch the animated series, good lord. And the reason,
- 51:47Speaker 1: the reason why is I think I think we should
- 51:50Speaker 1: have some sort of special award. I want to hear
- 51:52Speaker 1: from everybody out there. Anybody who've seen every single minute
- 51:59Speaker 1: of Cannon Star Trek. Well, you're going right, star for
- 52:06Speaker 1: You're right. Yeah. I want to know anybody who's seen everything,
- 52:10Speaker 1: including the animated series, all the short tracks, everything, and
- 52:15Speaker 1: I want to hear from you because you deserve a
- 52:17Speaker 1: special medallion, a special coin, a special something. And I
- 52:21Speaker 1: want to join that club. By the end of the year.
- 52:23Speaker 2: Okay, okay, so well, should we get to listener feedback.
- 52:28Speaker 1: I'm gonna make I'll make some sort of Metallian medallion, coin,
- 52:32Speaker 1: a little woodworking plaque or something. All right, I want
- 52:35Speaker 1: to hear you.
- 52:36Speaker 2: Okay, should we get the listener feedback then?
- 52:39Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 52:39Speaker 2: Sure, okay.
- 52:44Speaker 5: Listener feedback.
- 52:47Speaker 1: Can you tell everybody just remind everybody how listener feedback works? Yes.
- 52:53Speaker 2: So you can either reach out to us on our
- 52:56Speaker 2: social media. We have social media everywhere, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok,
- 53:02Speaker 2: it's all over the place. You can also leave us
- 53:04Speaker 2: a voicemail at five seven zero six six one zero
- 53:09Speaker 2: zero zero one. That's five seven zero six six one
- 53:14Speaker 2: zero zero zero one. We also have our emails trek
- 53:19Speaker 2: cast tng at gmail dot com and then Scott what's yours?
- 53:24Speaker 1: Uh strong Beard one seven zero one at gmail dot com.
- 53:28Speaker 1: There you go. So what if you want to what
- 53:32Speaker 1: if you want to participate in the live chat at
- 53:34Speaker 1: the end of the show, how do you do? Oh?
- 53:36Speaker 2: Yeah, just X up in the chat and and we'll
- 53:38Speaker 2: bring you in. We have Chasbiz waiting. Uh, he had
- 53:42Speaker 2: xed up as well.
- 53:43Speaker 1: So he'll when you say X up, you literally be
- 53:45Speaker 1: like in the chat, put an ex. Yeah, just put
- 53:47Speaker 1: an X and that'll give you the signal that they
- 53:49Speaker 1: want to chat.
- 53:50Speaker 2: Oh, Dan's on the move.
- 53:55Speaker 1: Yeah all right, yeah, we did eight six, mark two
- 54:00Speaker 1: one five that's right, and engage a full impulse.
- 54:06Speaker 2: That's right. Dan is performing the Ranker maneuver. Nice.
- 54:20Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, he's really uh, he's really fingering those
- 54:23Speaker 1: l cards controls.
- 54:24Speaker 2: Oh my god, there's jazz biz.
- 54:29Speaker 5: What's up, Scott? Some of your terminology? You fingering reach
- 54:34Speaker 5: around the beer?
- 54:35Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 54:36Speaker 2: You know your mom watches A Young Man with me?
- 54:40Speaker 3: Hi?
- 54:40Speaker 2: Mom, man, did you watch the movie Chaz Biz?
- 54:48Speaker 5: Oh? Yeah, I watched it with my dad last night.
- 54:51Speaker 5: Explained what stars were, so.
- 54:53Speaker 3: Your dad, your dad's gonna get one of Scott's coins, right,
- 54:58Speaker 3: that's right.
- 54:59Speaker 5: I know we didn't start with the motion picture. We
- 55:02Speaker 5: started with Ratha Kahn.
- 55:03Speaker 1: So that's fine.
- 55:05Speaker 5: You don't need to start with through the whole thing.
- 55:09Speaker 5: And I listen to him snore, So.
- 55:14Speaker 3: What did you get?
- 55:16Speaker 5: He actually liked it?
- 55:17Speaker 2: Okay? Yeah, of all the ones he's watched, which one
- 55:22Speaker 2: is his favorite? All the evens, all the evens, okay,
- 55:25Speaker 2: all the evens.
- 55:26Speaker 5: The odds kind of took him out of it. Okay,
- 55:30Speaker 5: it's just like everybody else. The evens are the are
- 55:32Speaker 5: the best movies. And that's why Dan's here, that's right,
- 55:35Speaker 5: And well, will Dan show up for Generations in First Contact?
- 55:40Speaker 2: I don't know if we'll get into those because uh,
- 55:42Speaker 2: we've got we've got a Strange World starting back up.
- 55:47Speaker 2: We're gonna have to do a prediction show. It'd be
- 55:49Speaker 2: nice to kind of do a few other episodes before
- 55:51Speaker 2: we go back to reviews.
- 55:52Speaker 1: Right, Well, we do have a couple of months before
- 55:56Speaker 1: Stranger World comes out, so yeah.
- 55:58Speaker 2: We'll figure it out a lot.
- 56:01Speaker 3: Yeah, but.
- 56:04Speaker 2: So you liked it, jusis. Yeah, what was your favorite part?
- 56:08Speaker 5: Uh, wonder where Tubac was the whole time?
- 56:12Speaker 1: I mentioned that during the film. I'm like, hey, box
- 56:14Speaker 1: on that ship right now? Yeah?
- 56:16Speaker 5: Yeah, probably my favorite parts the the Nards. When he
- 56:21Speaker 5: kicks a guy in the knees.
- 56:25Speaker 2: I thought that was an alien.
- 56:26Speaker 1: I'm like that my head cannon. That's who they are.
- 56:32Speaker 1: He came across the nan Art.
- 56:33Speaker 3: Are those the little guys that work in Paris that
- 56:36Speaker 3: had the program?
- 56:41Speaker 1: This is Ard? That that is my head cannon from
- 56:46Speaker 1: now on. That That that the alien that he fights
- 56:48Speaker 1: and Repente is a Nian Art from the from the
- 56:51Speaker 1: planet Menar's amazing.
- 56:57Speaker 5: The whole world as a kid when he kicks him
- 57:00Speaker 5: there and he's like not every.
- 57:06Speaker 2: A waiting game is asking did they ever bring back
- 57:08Speaker 2: Klingon pet abysmal blood back.
- 57:12Speaker 1: Blood? Yeah, that's the thing everybody like, you know, it's
- 57:16Speaker 1: it's pretty common knowledge now that they had to do
- 57:18Speaker 1: the purpleish blood because they didn't want to get an
- 57:23Speaker 1: R rating and it looked cool, but they just couldn't. Yeah,
- 57:29Speaker 1: it looked. It looked awesome, especially.
- 57:31Speaker 5: His arm off.
- 57:34Speaker 1: Like PLoP off.
- 57:36Speaker 3: So, who were the two yeomen that were in the suits?
- 57:39Speaker 1: Burke and.
- 57:42Speaker 3: So Burke and Sanyo are excellent, excellent marksmen because they
- 57:49Speaker 3: were shooting from the hip, they weren't using sights, and
- 57:52Speaker 3: they hit right in the heart, right dead center.
- 57:56Speaker 1: In the hearts in their eight chambered hearts.
- 57:59Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm impressed.
- 58:01Speaker 1: Yea, and couldn't do that.
- 58:04Speaker 5: They have those daft punk outfits on. They looked awesome,
- 58:07Speaker 5: you know.
- 58:09Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 58:12Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 58:13Speaker 1: Also another thing, I don't know what those must have
- 58:17Speaker 1: been extra vehicle suits, like you know that you could
- 58:21Speaker 1: go outside the ship in those suits. Are the only
- 58:25Speaker 1: EV suits I've ever seen in Star Trek that didn't
- 58:27Speaker 1: reveal the face of the person inside.
- 58:30Speaker 2: Yeah, I love they didn't. They didn't turn on the
- 58:33Speaker 2: little light.
- 58:34Speaker 1: Right. It's the first time I ever really paid attention
- 58:36Speaker 1: to their helmets. Oh yeah, and I love the Phasers.
- 58:42Speaker 1: Uh the new Phaser design. You know, it was more
- 58:46Speaker 1: pistol shaped, a little bit more compact. It looked it
- 58:49Speaker 1: looked robust, like it was smaller, but it looked more substantial,
- 58:54Speaker 1: you know, felt heavier because the tell Cobra things they
- 59:00Speaker 1: came out with, the Cobra Phasers they came out with
- 59:03Speaker 1: their next generation never made any sense. They look cool,
- 59:06Speaker 1: but there's no way to aim them.
- 59:09Speaker 5: Yeah. And then the JJ movies, the way they shot,
- 59:14Speaker 5: they almost shot like a gun. They weren't really a Phaser.
- 59:19Speaker 1: They look toy ish though, like the way that the
- 59:21Speaker 1: thing flipped around from stunned to kill mm hmm.
- 59:25Speaker 3: You know.
- 59:25Speaker 1: I mean I even saw like toy versions of them
- 59:28Speaker 1: in the stores, and like, these look like replicas. I
- 59:31Speaker 1: can imagine. I imagine that's what they look like in
- 59:33Speaker 1: real life. Yeah, so these are my favorite favors.
- 59:37Speaker 5: I think I want to know how long was the
- 59:40Speaker 5: trial because they're doing the investigation on the ship, right,
- 59:44Speaker 5: and they had like a speedy trial to throw them
- 59:47Speaker 5: on the row with pente or whatever.
- 59:52Speaker 2: Well to cling on trial, it'll go quick. They don't care.
- 59:55Speaker 1: Well it looks like the Enterprise, you think, Yes, they didn't.
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: They didn't. They didn't do anything to to reference the
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: passage of time. And that's another thing too. I don't
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: know how much time went by, but uh, Kirk was
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: wearing that veridian patch from the time he left the
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: Enterprise until he got bean back up. They didn't scan him,
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: they didn't take his uniform, they didn't nothing like what.
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: So I had to make up headcannon for it. Uh
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: my head cannon for the varidian patches. The veridian patch
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: is actually a mic micro cellular patch that once it
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: gets applied, it seeps into the skin of the person
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: that applies to mm hmm. What do you guys think?
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: Harder Lake, Yeah, I'm just saying, you know, I had to.
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: I had to make up my own story about how
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: it works, because I mean, you would have taken that
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: kind of thing away even though they didn't.
- 1:00:50Speaker 5: It's too much thinking there, Scott, I know it.
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: I know it. Well. This is like I said, this
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: is one of my favorite movies, so I have to
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: nitpick the thing that you love. I would never nitpick
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: the motion picture. Who cares, Oh that's.
- 1:01:01Speaker 5: The easy one. Well, this one, you know, you can netpick,
- 1:01:04Speaker 5: but that was my only nitpick. Was like, man, that
- 1:01:07Speaker 5: was a speedy trial. And it was the first time
- 1:01:09Speaker 5: I really realized.
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: That because whenever I put a whenever I put one
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: of the texts on the screen, immediately Scott and Dad
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: like rush to their phones and see what the people
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: are saying.
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: Yeah, when I'm bught my computer, it's no big deal.
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: But I yeah, yeah, yeah, sure now yeah, waiting game
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: says the crime scene in the Spacesuits needs to be
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: set to around the World by dath Bunk. I don't
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: know enough daft punk songs to be like, oh yeah
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: that or the tron to uh sound scowtrack. Yeah yeah,
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: yeah that.
- 1:01:40Speaker 5: Was a cool soundtrack.
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: Yeah that was about I can't wait.
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I can't wait for Tron three with the Trent
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: Reznor soundtracks pretty cool.
- 1:01:49Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, but uh it was like when they're looking
- 1:01:54Speaker 5: for the boots, right, I'm sitting there thinking, I was like,
- 1:01:57Speaker 5: did Johnny Cochrane watch this, Like the gloves don't fit,
- 1:02:00Speaker 5: you must have quit, you know, because the boots didn't fit.
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: I like when they showed the boot and then they're like,
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: it's this guy and they they they panned down to
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: his feet and.
- 1:02:10Speaker 5: They're like, oh no, that's not She is the worst
- 1:02:13Speaker 5: fulcan the worst fulcan? I mean she she mucked this
- 1:02:16Speaker 5: thing up so bad.
- 1:02:18Speaker 8: Yeah, you guys got his name was Jax too, Yeah,
- 1:02:22Speaker 8: his name was Jax. Yeah, they used a lot of
- 1:02:27Speaker 8: names like that, Scott.
- 1:02:30Speaker 3: Looking for when he's just sitting at the table in
- 1:02:34Speaker 3: the middle of the night, drinking a cup of coffee. Look,
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: I think he was just prints.
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: He's old school like that. He's old school like that.
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: He's just trying to I just looking through it. I
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: hide some uniforms. And then you know, because he said
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: I think that set is ten forward mm hmm, right,
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: and and he just you know, the the air flow
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: through the thing made it by right, and he's like,
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: what the hell is that?
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: So this kind of.
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: It's kind of a pattern here. So that scene you
- 1:03:08Speaker 3: were talking about earlier, when Colonel West is briefing the president,
- 1:03:13Speaker 3: yeah about a rescue operation. He has a flip chart.
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: In that seat.
- 1:03:18Speaker 3: He's flipping paper charts, right, not a PowerPoint present.
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: He's using a laser pointer too.
- 1:03:26Speaker 5: What about when they're speaking and they have like I
- 1:03:29Speaker 5: was getting to that.
- 1:03:30Speaker 3: I was getting to that. So Scotty's reading the paper blueprints.
- 1:03:34Speaker 3: Colonel West has a paper flip chart. Oh, Hora is
- 1:03:38Speaker 3: translating Klingon.
- 1:03:39Speaker 5: With old books.
- 1:03:41Speaker 3: Now when were these books published? I mean books now
- 1:03:47Speaker 3: don't look like those I know.
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: Also, where's the bookshelf on the Enterprise bridge?
- 1:03:53Speaker 3: Barks got warm piece, she's got Treasure Island and pling
- 1:04:01Speaker 3: on the English Dictionary mm hm.
- 1:04:04Speaker 2: And and what's funny is this movie was is in
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: in ninety one, right, so like they had pads on TNG,
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: like they knew like this is where eventually where we're
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: gonna get to.
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: They could add something, you know, they wanted to add
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: a comedy scene. I read on IMDb that the the panels,
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: the computer panels above them were translating what the what
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: the Klingons were saying on screen, like they were typing
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: it out what the translation was. Yeah, but they decided
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: to add this scene with a horror not knowing what
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: the hell she was doing. And Michelle Nichols did not
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: like the scene. She she fought against it because she
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: was like a communications officer would on the on the flagship,
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: would definitely know a little bit of the language that
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: of our you know, mortal enemies. Yeah, you know, and
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: they they decided to rectify that in the jj Abrams
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: one where she's you know, a zeno linguistic, right, she uh.
- 1:05:05Speaker 3: She voiced her opinion on a couple of different things,
- 1:05:09Speaker 3: and sometimes she won out and sometimes she did and
- 1:05:12Speaker 3: you know, you can't win. You can't win all your battles.
- 1:05:15Speaker 3: So the one, the one she objected to was when
- 1:05:20Speaker 3: the when the Klingons are on board and they're they're
- 1:05:24Speaker 3: having they're exchanging racist remarks about the Klingons. One of
- 1:05:29Speaker 3: the lines going to be, but would you want your
- 1:05:33Speaker 3: daughter to marry one?
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: Oh wow?
- 1:05:36Speaker 3: And she objected, She objected to that. And and you know,
- 1:05:41Speaker 3: I don't know if I if I think it might
- 1:05:45Speaker 3: have driven the point home a little bit if somebody
- 1:05:49Speaker 3: had said that that, you know, hey, Klingons are are
- 1:05:53Speaker 3: people too. We made this mistake in the past, they're
- 1:05:58Speaker 3: making this mistake now. I I think it would have
- 1:06:00Speaker 3: driven the allegory home a little bit.
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: But I understand why she, Yeah, you're right, because they
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: portrayed Kirk as a racist in the a speciist in this,
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: you know, and and they they go over the reasons
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: the Klingons killed us. You know, it was a Klingon
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: that happened to kill his son. But you know, I
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: think that what they're trying to at the end of
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: the movie, he finally realizes the air of his ways
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: and and Star Trek has done this for decades, you know.
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: Turn you know, they make the allegory of you know,
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: racism with the original series episode with the people that
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: were black on one side and white on the other.
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: You know, the Deep Shase nine episode where they're talking
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: about same sex relationships, and so this is not something
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: new to Star Trek. They just tackled racism, I think
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: more in an in your face kind of way.
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: Mm hmm. And it was completely an allegory for the
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: Cold War. Oh absolutely, yeah.
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: Well even Gorkan was a was an algor nation of
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: Gorbitrov and somebody else. Reagan.
- 1:07:04Speaker 5: Well, yeah, I was thinking earlier when you guys saying that,
- 1:07:07Speaker 5: you know, it took forever for the Klingons to join
- 1:07:08Speaker 5: the Federation, right, it's worth kind of mentioned briefly mentioned, right, Yeah, Well,
- 1:07:14Speaker 5: it's kind of like Russia right now and joining you know,
- 1:07:17Speaker 5: like there's no way Russia would ever join NATO.
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: Yeah, not right now. Fifty years from now, who knows
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: what geopolitical right, right, the atmosphere is going to be.
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: But you know, there was at one point in our
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: history where US in Germany and Italy didn't get along
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: too well. And now we go there on vacation, right,
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: so you know there might be a future where we
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: go to you know, Iraq and Iran and Russia, you know,
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: and yeah, we're all North Korea. Yeah, you know, fifty
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: years can make a lot of difference.
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: That's true, that's true. Right, Yeah, Well, anything else we
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: want to bring up before we wrap it up.
- 1:07:59Speaker 5: See what Emon was in the movie? Did you guys mentioned? Yeah?
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: Yeah, David as the comelloid.
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: Oh yeah, we lost Dan.
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: No, I'm Davis, you say, David Bowie?
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: Yeah, his wife, Yeah, that's his wife.
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: I did not know that. Yeah, I didn't know years. Yeah,
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: David boy is dead all right? Oh yeah, he's dead,
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: but that was his you know, I'm installed.
- 1:08:28Speaker 3: One of my ongoing complaints about Star Trek made its
- 1:08:33Speaker 3: uh was here also where everyone's a lawyer and there
- 1:08:38Speaker 3: are no lawyers, right, General General Chang, he's a lawyer.
- 1:08:43Speaker 3: Apparently he's prosecuting.
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: My wife brought up the same issue.
- 1:08:46Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, just looking at my notes real quick. But
- 1:08:51Speaker 3: I also enjoyed that the crew of the Enterprise could
- 1:08:57Speaker 3: see him doing his loyally do because Klingon Cork TV
- 1:09:02Speaker 3: was streaming on the bridge.
- 1:09:04Speaker 2: That's right, that's right.
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: Well, I think that Okay, I'm going to call that
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: incorrectly regarded as a goop because I think that was
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: done on purpose. They I think the Klingons wanted to
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: make a show of this because they you know, number one,
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: it was chance they got assassinated, and number two in
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: the Klingon empire, I would imagine James T. Kirk is
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: the most famous human. Yes, I mean this was the
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: oj trial for that.
- 1:09:34Speaker 5: Yeah right, this is like Admiral Nelson back in the day.
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: I love that they practically told him you're gonna have
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: a fair trial and then you'll be convicted.
- 1:09:47Speaker 3: You know.
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: The other the part of the trial that I wanted
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: to mention to, I thought it was a great transition
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: the way they did the translating Klingon to English, where
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: they show Chang talking and Klingon. They panned to an
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: area where there's some there's a Klingon translated English, which
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: is rumored to be the Klingon from the last movie
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: Captain Captain Creek whatever his name is, the one that
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: fired on the Enterprise without authorization. Rumor us that he
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: got demoted to translators anyways, And then they panned back
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: to Chang with a slightly different camera lens or angle,
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: and he's now speaking in English, but it's pretty obvious
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: he's speaking in Klingon, but to us, we can understand him.
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: And the part where he's grilling Kirk and he said,
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: you know, blah blah blah blah, don't wait for the
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: translation answer me. Now, I think that's also I think
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: that's from a Shakespeare play. But the way that that
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: line was delivered and Kirk's response to it, like his
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: facial expression like he understood what he was saying, Like, okay,
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: I thought it was fantastic that scene.
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:11:04Speaker 5: Yeah, the casting is great.
- 1:11:05Speaker 3: I mean foreign language in films should be handled that way.
- 1:11:11Speaker 3: All yeah, if I want, I can't stand. If there's
- 1:11:15Speaker 3: one thing I can't stand, it's reading twenty minutes of
- 1:11:18Speaker 3: a movie we want to go for authenticity.
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: Yeah, well no thanks, yep. Watched Trick Sex on How
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: to do it. That was the perfect way.
- 1:11:29Speaker 5: Yes, I find it. It's like I watched the Showgun
- 1:11:31Speaker 5: series last year on FX. Great series, but you had
- 1:11:36Speaker 5: to read it right and you could change it to
- 1:11:40Speaker 5: the dub. I found out like after I finished the show,
- 1:11:44Speaker 5: and so I read the whole show and I was like, oh,
- 1:11:46Speaker 5: I could have listened to it, you know, but of
- 1:11:51Speaker 5: course the dub's not as good if if you watch Showgun,
- 1:11:53Speaker 5: it's a great series.
- 1:11:55Speaker 3: Oh.
- 1:11:55Speaker 5: I was gonna say, too, did you guys see and Or?
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: Yeah, I saw the first episode.
- 1:12:01Speaker 3: I did not say.
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: I'm not gonna I can't talk about and Or because
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: I I I'm not a bigger fan of and Or
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: and the movie that is coming up, or the movie
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: that this is a prequel to. Yeah, yeah, Rogue one.
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: I'm I'm not a huge fan of Rogue one. I
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: know I'm in the minority on this. Yeah, and I
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: know I'm just an ugly Star Wars fan that only
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: like you know, laser sword battles and rocks.
- 1:12:26Speaker 5: Of your mind.
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: But I'm gonna I'm gonna watch Rogue one, or I'm
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: gonna watch and Or season two. I watched and Or
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: Season one. I'm gonna watch season two and then I'm
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: gonna rewatch Rogue one.
- 1:12:40Speaker 5: Once you finished the episode, you will beat up Rogue one.
- 1:12:44Speaker 2: Okay, So because is awesome. Yeah, I agree, man, and
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: I love it. I think it's.
- 1:12:50Speaker 3: This is this?
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: It is it?
- 1:12:52Speaker 3: Two seasons? That's it anymore.
- 1:12:59Speaker 2: In a pair certainly. Yeah, there there was a plan
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: to do like multiple seasons, but then they realized that
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: Diego Luna would age throughout time, you know, because that's
- 1:13:10Speaker 2: how time works, and then it's not really gonna match
- 1:13:12Speaker 2: up with Rogue one as well. So in season two
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: they do basically every three episodes is what would have
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: been one season. Okay, So it's it's kind of neat,
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: is it. Yeah, it's all out.
- 1:13:29Speaker 5: Yeah, Like they've released them in three episode blocks, so
- 1:13:34Speaker 5: that'd be one year, and then you go to the
- 1:13:37Speaker 5: next year and the next year.
- 1:13:38Speaker 2: Yeah, because each each three blocks is it starts b
- 1:13:42Speaker 2: B Y four, b B Y three two and that's
- 1:13:46Speaker 2: all happened. So it's four years before they blew up
- 1:13:49Speaker 2: the dust, start two years before they blew the dust.
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: So it kind of gives you the.
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: Timeline, okay, okay, yeah.
- 1:13:57Speaker 3: Maybe uh maybe when I'm on the plane.
- 1:13:59Speaker 2: Tomorrow, there you go there, you go with your with
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: your drinks and your.
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: Jas biz. I don't mind the barking dog, but next
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: time you have to bring him, bring him on screen
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: so we can see him.
- 1:14:11Speaker 5: Right, come here here, I got him.
- 1:14:15Speaker 2: Uh speaking of a waiting game, unrelated, but I want
- 1:14:18Speaker 2: to hear your thoughts on the new Superman trailer. I'm
- 1:14:20Speaker 2: excited for the movie, but I thought the trailer was
- 1:14:22Speaker 2: just okay.
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: I love the Superman trailer. I'm loving the puppy.
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: Oh look at the doggy dog.
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: There we go. Now, what kind of dog is that?
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: That's a shelty shelty.
- 1:14:35Speaker 2: Oh yeah, he's a mass.
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: He's cute. Yes, all right, thanks for the dog fix.
- 1:14:42Speaker 2: Yeah, so would you guys think of the trailer.
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: I love the Superman trailer. I'm you know, Dan and
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: I are big, huge Superman fans, So.
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: I thought the trailer was fun. I think it was
- 1:14:55Speaker 2: just enough to get you excited about it, not revealing
- 1:14:58Speaker 2: too much. We'll get one more trailer before the Peacemaker.
- 1:15:04Speaker 5: Well, this season at Peacemaker will leading, you know, kind
- 1:15:09Speaker 5: of segue into the movie.
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: It's set after the movie.
- 1:15:12Speaker 5: Yeah, I know it's set after So you think some
- 1:15:14Speaker 5: of those characters are going to show up on there maybe.
- 1:15:16Speaker 2: Oh yeah, they already did on the trailer for Yeah.
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: Well, the showrunners are like, okay, season one, uh, it
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: doesn't it's it's season one is d c EU. But
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: we're gonna pull out elements that we want for the
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: d c U, but only what we tell you is right, right,
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: So basically, yeah, yeah.
- 1:15:39Speaker 3: If you're starting over, start over, that's kind.
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: Of where I'm at too.
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:15:43Speaker 5: Well, the problem is is James Gunn casted his wife
- 1:15:46Speaker 5: in Peacemaker, so it's kind of it's kind of hard
- 1:15:50Speaker 5: for him to take her out. So his wife, she's
- 1:15:54Speaker 5: a hard peacemaker.
- 1:15:58Speaker 2: Yeah, lady on there. Okay, but here's the thing.
- 1:16:04Speaker 3: Okay, but those characters, those characters were in the end
- 1:16:07Speaker 3: of Shazam two, right, there's other you know, the Justice
- 1:16:12Speaker 3: League was in the end of peace Maker. The DCU
- 1:16:15Speaker 3: Justice League was in the end of peace Maker.
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: Yeah, they said, you just have to ignore that. Yeah, okay,
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: and Lobo from now on when you watch that, you
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: have to stop stop the the episode just before that,
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: You've been ordered to by James Gunn.
