- 0:35genius, a pop genius herself. She's an artist who's not afraid
- 0:39to talk her shit, and we're about to talk a lot of shit.
- 0:42On a lot of shit. A lot of shit.
- 0:44We're going into all of it, but please welcome Leah, Kate.
- 0:47Hi, Leah. Hello.
- 0:49Thank you so much for being here.
- 0:50Oh my God, thank you for having me.
- 0:51Well, like I told you before the show started, you guys, I'm a
- 0:53fucking massive fan of Leah. I love her music.
- 0:56Her new album, Genius, We're gonna do a deep dive today.
- 0:59But this album, it's so well written.
- 1:01It's just well written pop. It's catchy, it's good.
- 1:04You're like what I want from pop music right now.
- 1:06Oh my God, thank you. Seriously, I love it and I loved
- 1:10breakup and I keep mentioning that to you, but that was from
- 1:12your last album and I fucking love and breakup.
- 1:14I love the music video and like you're just like my vibe, which
- 1:18is like dance cry drunk, you know what I mean?
- 1:21Literally and how you described it before Psycho Girl.
- 1:23Pause. Psycho girl Pop.
- 1:25Unapologetic Lulu pop. It's all of that.
- 1:27And like, I live for it. I put it up.
- 1:30If you're a psycho and if you're a girl, you're in the right
- 1:32place. You're in the right place and
- 1:34you like unhinged pop music. Leah, Kate.
- 1:37There we go, nice to meet you. Well, Leah, we want to get to
- 1:39know you more, so I know that you're originally from Lai Am
- 1:42and you've always been in LA. Well, I moved away for a few
- 1:45years when I needed to like get the fuck out of town totally.
- 1:48But yeah, I'm like, born and raised in LA.
- 1:50Well. You went to New York?
- 1:51Yeah, that's right. Oh, my God.
- 1:52I just moved here from New York. You did not.
- 1:54I did. Oh my God.
- 1:55I. I mean, I feel like these are
- 1:56two such major cities and they're full of heartbreak and
- 2:00like, devastation. And oh, yeah, New York was like
- 2:03a lot of heartbreak for me. Oh.
- 2:05Shit A. Lot of my hands, well, came from
- 2:07New York, actually. I totally got that.
- 2:09What about Los Angeles now? Yeah, also filled with
- 2:11heartbreak. I need to like go to like
- 2:14Nashville next or somewhere maybe like.
- 2:16Fresh start. Yeah.
- 2:17Honestly, I'm a big kind of running, but like you just got
- 2:20to be inspired. Like, I feel like for me, I
- 2:23would rather like go out, live a life and have something to write
- 2:25about. It can be super devastating,
- 2:27right? I know you know that.
- 2:28Just cause like. Especially all throughout Genius
- 2:31too. There's a lot of yearning and
- 2:32longing and like, you know, reflection.
- 2:36I get it. Oh yeah.
- 2:37I love that. Well, did you always see
- 2:39yourself as like an artist and a performer?
- 2:41Oh my God, since I was like 3 years old I have memories of me
- 2:44being like that's what I want to do.
- 2:46Like pop star? I always want to be a pop star.
- 2:48It just sounded like what I want to do.
- 2:50I love to sing. I love to entertain.
- 2:52I would go to school and I'd be this like mute though.
- 2:54I was so shy. I used to get these doctors
- 2:56notes that exempt me out of speaking in class because I felt
- 3:00like so stupid talking out loud and I didn't want anyone to like
- 3:03hear what I was saying. And I was so shy.
- 3:05I was literally a mute. And then I would get home and be
- 3:07like singing and dancing and like having my brother make
- 3:09music videos with me and writing my songs and was like two
- 3:13different people. But I always knew that's what I
- 3:16wanted. I just didn't think it was
- 3:17possible because like you needed a record label and it was pre
- 3:20TikTok and I had no idea what the fuck to do.
- 3:22I was like, I just have all these songs for me.
- 3:23Like I mean, you were doing it though.
- 3:24I was doing it but for myself. And then I was like.
- 3:27It's expensive. It it is.
- 3:28It's like I just didn't even know where to begin.
- 3:30My parents were like, you go get a job and like do make your
- 3:33music on the side on the weekends.
- 3:34And I was like, OK, that's cool. Like being realistic with you.
- 3:37Realistic And then I would get these jobs and I got fired from
- 3:39all of them. I couldn't keep a job for my
- 3:41life. I have.
- 3:41Been fired from every job I've ever had prior to.
- 3:44Consecration literally saying every single job inspired me.
- 3:47Yeah, just like they. Said I had an attitude.
- 3:49Oh my God. Single one said I had.
- 3:51An attitude, really. That's so funny.
- 3:53Why? I like your music.
- 3:54Oh my God. They all said to me, you don't
- 3:56look like you want to be here. That was like the main.
- 3:58I was like, you're right, I don't.
- 4:00And then I was like, I'm just going to pursue music.
- 4:02Like why am I doing this? Yeah, I was like, whatever.
- 4:06And so I moved back to LA and moved into my parents house and
- 4:10was just like, here I go, I'm living at home.
- 4:12I'm just gonna pursue my music career now.
- 4:15And then it like randomly kind of worked.
- 4:16And I was like, OK. And you know what?
- 4:18You could have been a neppo baby about it too because your dad
- 4:20worked in radio. Well, my dad did work in radio
- 4:22forever for sure. But like The funny thing is he
- 4:25never put me on the radio. I took.
- 4:26I begged him. Even when I had the biggest pop
- 4:28radio hit in America, he was like, I'm still not putting it
- 4:31on the radio. That's crazy.
- 4:33It was so annoying. I was like, Dad, come on, like
- 4:35you like work at radio stations. Just he was like plug your
- 4:38daughter and he was like no. I know I would ask that too, but
- 4:42you didn't use your nepotism and that worked because like, you're
- 4:43self-made. Yeah, I'm fully self-made.
- 4:45I wish I was like a proper Nebo baby.
- 4:47Oh my God, I think I'm doing so. Bad.
- 4:49Me too. Oh my.
- 4:50God I would like be literally running the world if I was an
- 4:52EBO A. 100% I mean, you're going to get there anyways.
- 4:55You're already doing it kind of so. 100% we're.
- 4:57Just going to get ready for that.
- 4:58Exactly. So you start doing music, you
- 5:01start putting your music out, and you're doing this
- 5:03independently, though no label, because I know you signed to a
- 5:05label at some point. I did and then you talk about in
- 5:08Meltdown, Dancing on Tables got dropped by your label.
- 5:10So that's that whole journey there too.
- 5:12Wait, so how was that like signing to a label and then?
- 5:15It was crazy because I had done everything by myself for so
- 5:19long. I had.
- 5:21It was just literally me running the show.
- 5:24I had an investor come along, Alexis Ohanian, who's my
- 5:27favorite human ever. He founded Reddit.
- 5:29Yeah. Shout out to Alexis.
- 5:31He is married to the legend Serena Williams.
- 5:34Like, he's a tech icon. And he reached out to me and was
- 5:37like, I want to invest in you. Shut.
- 5:39Up yeah and it was when I had like no money to market my songs
- 5:42and my song Fuck up. The friendship was going viral
- 5:43and I was like perfect timing. I need some marketing funds.
- 5:46Just got asked to do like the Madison Beer tour.
- 5:48So could also use some help like covering my cost to get to
- 5:51Europe for a 2 month tour. It was great.
- 5:53And then everything kind of like we did a deal and then we did
- 5:56another deal and then finally I was like, OK, let's do the third
- 5:59deal, like for an album. And the first single was 10
- 6:02Things I Hate About You. And that exploded and it got so
- 6:05big that I don't know, it was wild.
- 6:07And I signed to a big a big record deal, which was really
- 6:11cool. But I kind of like prefer being
- 6:13independent. Really.
- 6:14Yeah. Because it was like it was
- 6:16stressful having 30 people tell me what to do all the time.
- 6:18I. Was going to say having too many
- 6:19cooks in the kitchen is so challenging because like I'm in
- 6:21the process right now. I'm trying to hire my my own
- 6:23team in house under me and I feel like I want to be really
- 6:26picky about the people that I'm putting on my team just because
- 6:29I feel like I've seen and I work with so many people who have a
- 6:33million people on their team and it's like a giant mess.
- 6:35Even getting you on the show was such a process by no fault to
- 6:38you or your team, but. But like, why didn't I ever hear
- 6:41about you wanting me on my show? I've been.
- 6:43Wanting you. Oh my God, I was showing Leah
- 6:45right before the show these despo emails I was sending.
- 6:48To Despo. Her team and I was like, hey,
- 6:50just following up if we can't Leah Kate on the show, please.
- 6:52Hey, I really love and break up. Hey, I'm really loving meltdown
- 6:55and I'll we'd love to have her in.
- 6:56We would love to schedule her crickets.
- 6:58Radio silence. So I need a publicist if
- 7:01anyone's out there. OK, I have something to
- 7:03recommend to you. My publicist has got you on.
- 7:06That's true, Charlie. Shout out to Charlie.
- 7:08It was quick because literally I hired him and he was like, so
- 7:10who do you want on the show? And I was like Leah Kate.
- 7:12I've been trying to get Leah Kate on for so long.
- 7:13And literally that day I drive home, he's like, call me.
- 7:16And I didn't call him. But then he sends me a voice
- 7:18message and she's like, she's on no.
- 7:20Oh my God, you're worth. The money, Yeah, Incredible.
- 7:22Wow, he really delivered. Really delivered.
- 7:25I mean to be. Honest.
- 7:27He was nepple boyfriending though because his boyfriend
- 7:30wrote with you on genius. True, he's a nepple boyfriend.
- 7:33And you know what? If he wants to use his nepple
- 7:35boyfriend connections, fuck you. Be a nepple boyfriend.
- 7:38I love that. Yeah, Oh my God.
- 7:39I'm trying to be a nepple girlfriend.
- 7:40Same. Someone hit me off Literally
- 7:42same. Well you mentioned 10 things I
- 7:44hate about you. This is obviously your biggest
- 7:46song at the moment until we get the Meltdown campaign going.
- 7:50But. As a Virgo, I love Liz.
- 7:53I fucking love List. Do you?
- 7:54Love list. I love a list.
- 7:56Oh my God. You're listing all the things,
- 7:57and this song is like, honestly, it's so polarizing.
- 8:00You know, the response to it was like, either you love it or you
- 8:02hate it, but it's so fucking massive.
- 8:04And I feel like even when people didn't like it, it just fueled
- 8:06the song blowing up. Oh yeah.
- 8:08It's been a couple years since then.
- 8:09Like, how do you feel about that song?
- 8:10It's crazy. It's been a few years but it
- 8:12still goes so hard. I still hear it on the radio all
- 8:14the time. It's still if I play it at any
- 8:16show, everyone knows the words. You're probably going to play
- 8:19it. For the rest of your life.
- 8:19Oh duh, for sure. I would like a new ending song
- 8:22if we could blow up a new OK where are we?
- 8:23What are? We trying to blow up right now.
- 8:25What do we think? Maybe like Meltdown or Genius,
- 8:28Yeah. Oh my God, genius.
- 8:29You like that one? Love, genius.
- 8:31Yeah, it's super well. This entire album's well
- 8:34written. We're going to get into it.
- 8:35I want to do a deep dive on your music.
- 8:36Like that's my priority for sure, yeah.
- 8:38OK, so with the music again, brutally honest lyrics,
- 8:41intentionally unapologetic, you started music and your initial
- 8:44music was very pop punk. It was like it felt more pop
- 8:46rock, you know what I mean? Then you transition to the just
- 8:48like bona fide pop star. So how is that artistic growth?
- 8:52Like where is it A decision to start making like more
- 8:55intentional pop music? I think I just always want to
- 8:58stay evolving and making the song stronger and better and
- 9:00more in your face and like, in your face.
- 9:02Yeah. In your face 100%.
- 9:05Yeah. So I just like, it just kind of
- 9:07happened naturally, you know, I'm just like, on this planet to
- 9:10be a pop star. So naturally the songs became
- 9:12more of pop bangers. Oh my God, I fucking love that.
- 9:15Thank you. So I want to get into genius.
- 9:17But before we move to genius, I need to talk about on breakup.
- 9:20Oh yeah, let's talk about it. I know it's your.
- 9:22Favorite. It is literally my favorite.
- 9:24It's just like such an emotional like pop banger and like also I
- 9:27feel like that concept of regretting breaking up with
- 9:30someone isn't really spoken a lot about in music or in
- 9:32general, right? You know the retroactive like.
- 9:35Is that a mistake? 100% and.
- 9:36Lyrics are so specific and I love specific writing and lyrics
- 9:39like getting drunk on a towel, you know what I mean?
- 9:41Like that shit. Like you really are going there.
- 9:44Oh yeah, that one was real. For people to know it's about
- 9:46them. Right 100 Oh, so do I.
- 9:49I'm like I want him to message me and beg for me back after he
- 9:53hears the song 1,000,000%. Did it work?
- 9:56It did actually shut up. Yeah break up we for a second,
- 10:00but I didn't last. There's a reason why we broke
- 10:02up. Okay, well.
- 10:05That's what I really love about your music though.
- 10:06Like I love that you reference like things so candidly because
- 10:10like when I listen to your music, Oh my God, my team will
- 10:13tell you I'm still slightly going through it, but I was
- 10:15going through it so hard in September and I was drinking a
- 10:18lot. But I would play your music
- 10:20drunk as fuck, just screaming the lyrics.
- 10:22I'll specifically and meltdown, but like I was just really
- 10:26feeling and I was like, you're making music for girls like me.
- 10:29Oh my God, I love that so much. Thank you.
- 10:31No, thank you. Stay drunk screaming at That's
- 10:33why I make music because I was a drunk screamer in my life and
- 10:35like, Oh yeah, I love nothing more than drunk screaming
- 10:38feeling songs myself or like being in the club.
- 10:41And I was always just like, I want to make the music that like
- 10:44a girl like me can drunk cry, scream to.
- 10:46Fucking literally. I drunk cry, scream to it, I
- 10:48drunk dance to it. It's just like.
- 10:50I feel you. It's.
- 10:51So healing and it's so. Healing.
- 10:53And I also feel like you're music and lyrics are so
- 10:55versatile because like it could be really wink wink and then it
- 10:58can be really vulnerable, right? Like 2 years.
- 11:00Yeah, there's like so many sides of me A. 100% I feel like you
- 11:04see a lot of them on Genius. Oh yeah.
- 11:07OK, let's get into genius. Let's get into.
- 11:09It honestly, guys, forgive me. This is literally for me.
- 11:12Yeah, I want to talk about this album.
- 11:13Oh my God, stop so bad. Well, how's making genius
- 11:17compared to super over? Which was your?
- 11:19Debut album, Yeah. It was like so much fun.
- 11:22We, I went to Hawaii with all of my collaborative Raiders, and we
- 11:24were just on the beach with like, a chef and I we just,
- 11:29like, rode the album in the most magical place ever.
- 11:31It was such a dream come true. It was over like, a year and a
- 11:34half. We wrote it.
- 11:35But like, we really went to Hawaii to, like, finish it.
- 11:39And I just feel like these are my best lyrics and my best songs
- 11:43today. Yeah, absolutely.
- 11:45They're just delulu. Oh my.
- 11:47God, that's why I like them like.
- 11:48Genius is about a very delulu crush I had who like just wasn't
- 11:52like like going back. He wasn't clocking it.
- 11:54But I'm like, I know you're into me like just shut up.
- 11:56Like why are? You doesn't take a genius.
- 11:58It doesn't take a genius like you are obsessed with me.
- 12:01Stop. Literally.
- 12:02Yeah. It just like kind of evolved
- 12:04into like the whole album. Obviously I wrote the whole
- 12:05album about this stupid crush. I had like, wasn't even a
- 12:08boyfriend. Yeah, it was like a crush, not a
- 12:09boyfriend. I was like, I'm obsessed with
- 12:11you. We like actually made out one
- 12:13time. Like our album?
- 12:14Yeah. Like.
- 12:15Wait, girl, why are you so me? OK, I'm gonna lead to this.
- 12:18Next one I'll go save it. Delulu as fuck.
- 12:21So I want to talk about your song, not to be dramatic.
- 12:24Let's talk about it, banger. Thank you.
- 12:26As a dramatic girl myself, definitely relate.
- 12:28It's just like super strong and it comes off very strong too.
- 12:31Wait, what is the most dramatic thing you've done for this
- 12:35subject? This.
- 12:36Muse This song, not to be dramatic, is a very true story.
- 12:41And I was in love with this boy. Like seriously obsessed with
- 12:43him. I would have done anything for
- 12:45him. And I one night he was just like
- 12:48talking to his ex in front of me.
- 12:49And I was so mad. I was like, he puts me through
- 12:51hell. It's like one weekend he likes
- 12:52me. One weekend he goes to me.
- 12:53I'm just like, I've had it. And I was really drunk.
- 12:56And I was like, you know what? I'm just going to like go make
- 12:58out with his best friend and make sure he learns about it.
- 13:00And in my brain, I was like, if I do this, he'll never talk to
- 13:02me again. And this is for the better.
- 13:04I'm going to sabotage it. Yeah, that's literally what went
- 13:07through my head. I was like, I can't stand this
- 13:08anymore. He's putting me through hell.
- 13:10So I went and I hooked up with his best friend and yeah, it was
- 13:15a crazy decision. He didn't talk to me for so
- 13:16long. We just now have become friends
- 13:18again. Recently.
- 13:20Yeah, not now, but like in the last like year, but like.
- 13:24This. Yeah, literally, Gagiana, I was
- 13:26such a mistake. But like, whatever.
- 13:29Got a good song? Got a binger?
- 13:31Sometimes you just got to do the crazy shit to write about it,
- 13:33and I really do believe that, you know, it's crazy.
- 13:35So you're talking about like you made this whole album off of
- 13:38this person and like, whatever. I would say that's probably a
- 13:41really dramatic thing for you to do.
- 13:43So dramatic, like I really titled my whole album off of
- 13:46like one crush, I add. Girl, literally.
- 13:48It just ate me alive. You know those crushes that like
- 13:51you? Just like I want to marry you.
- 13:52I can't explain why, but like you are everything I want.
- 13:55Oh my God. We're soul sisters, trust me.
- 13:57We are right like I like loved him for like a year.
- 13:59I like still love him and he still doesn't text me.
- 14:02I was like what the fuck? You put on an album about.
- 14:05Literally like respond. You know what's crazy?
- 14:08So I'm prepping for the show and I was like, I'm going to ask you
- 14:10what the most dramatic thing you've ever done is.
- 14:12I was like, I'm going to share mine.
- 14:14But honestly, I think you shared mine for me because I I wrote an
- 14:18entire album about this boy and I decided this is going to be my
- 14:22artist debut. I'm going to put it out about
- 14:25this man. I'm going to play you some
- 14:26stuff, but not right now. But you're going to hear it.
- 14:29So that's what I'm saying. That's most dramatic thing.
- 14:32I'm like. Wait, twins?
- 14:33Twins. Yeah, like delulu.
- 14:39Shits crazy. Oh my God.
- 14:40OK, we're we're, we're for the dramatic girls.
- 14:43We are. OK, you're on the right show.
- 14:45I feel like I am you. Are Oh my God, wait, thank you
- 14:48for that T Lulu that's crazy because I really love this album
- 14:51and I love knowing the intricacies behind it because
- 14:52we're talking about some other songs right before we got in
- 14:55here and I was like, how much do you relate to this?
- 14:57Like how real is it to you? And you're like, oh.
- 14:59Real. Oh my gosh.
- 15:01Wait, so let me dive into the Goss Goss then.
- 15:03So if I'll to my understanding, like it's like a best you who's
- 15:07like hooking up with this person you're infatuated with or
- 15:10someone and you're like, like, you know, you shouldn't watch,
- 15:13you know, you shouldn't pay attention to it, but.
- 15:14It was about a friend. Yeah.
- 15:16Yeah, I had. I wrote down on my notes one
- 15:18day, like I shouldn't look, but I will.
- 15:20All just makes me ill. And I didn't know what it was
- 15:23going to be. And then that song, it turned
- 15:24into a song in Hawaii. But it's like when you can't
- 15:27stop stalking a certain situation.
- 15:29Yeah. You can't stop looking and like
- 15:31a situation just makes you so sick and like, you don't even
- 15:33know why. And yeah, it's about a friend
- 15:36who kind of did me really dirty and it's still like, makes me
- 15:40sick to think about and. I feel that right now, right?
- 15:44Because that's the song that I like.
- 15:45I'm drunk, crying to right? And my roommates know this, and
- 15:48they watched me perform this song a million times in the
- 15:50living room. You need to send me videos of
- 15:52that. I literally will.
- 15:54I literally will. I showed you the video of me
- 15:55doing meltdown. Party obsessed.
- 15:57You guys, I need to show you guys this video, but basically I
- 16:00was at a party. I don't know who did it.
- 16:03It might have been me. Someone queued up Meltdown by
- 16:05Leah Kate. I got up on the fucking stage,
- 16:08perform for my life. That is really.
- 16:10Perform for my. Life, it makes me so happy.
- 16:12I mean that song was I think they played I'll too.
- 16:14Actually, I think it was me who killed cute these.
- 16:17Songs. Yeah, you're like somebody cute
- 16:18it. Like I remember being there
- 16:19drunk, screaming. That should be me, not like, you
- 16:22know what I mean? Like, Oh my God.
- 16:23And that's how I felt too. Oh my God, It's just so
- 16:26cathartic too. It is right, you know.
- 16:28What I mean, like I said, this album is just a well written pop
- 16:31album. Thank you so much.
- 16:33I feel that way to have like this album should I feel like be
- 16:36the biggest album in the world? Like why is it not?
- 16:38I mean, honestly, it is. Like it's really fire.
- 16:40Yeah, it will be, right. Need to keep our.
- 16:42Words we're manifesting. We are like saying it here.
- 16:45First Genius by Leah Kate will be the biggest album in the.
- 16:48World. I mean honestly it's only been
- 16:49living in the world for like about a week as of us filming
- 16:52this. Yeah, it's been a week.
- 16:53Like the retroactive blow up of genius as it continues to go
- 16:56along. You need to keep going with the
- 16:57campaign for it. You know what I mean?
- 16:58100% Oh my gosh, Leah, you were on the fucking mood board.
- 17:02So that's my producer over there.
- 17:03We're starting to roll out music.
- 17:05We're getting everything ready for me, for my music.
- 17:07And I literally referenced the Meltdown visualizer.
- 17:10No, literally we just bought a fucking camcorder.
- 17:13No, 'cause I told him I was like, I want this like this like
- 17:15vintagey feeling aesthetic and like that video was just so good
- 17:18like. Oh my God.
- 17:19Oh my God. I'm so glad you love that one.
- 17:22No, it's so good and it's just that like barfies dumb got like
- 17:25girl right. I love it like.
- 17:27We just got a camcorder and like a karaoke bar and.
- 17:30It came out so good, like I think you should have just said
- 17:32like it was a music video. I know right?
- 17:35I should have. No, it's so good.
- 17:37I love it. And also the photo shoot for
- 17:38Genius is so cut Hulu. Oh my God, it's so Hulu.
- 17:41Giving everything, Yeah, like what the fuck?
- 17:43I have to serve Hulu always. You have to always.
- 17:45I feel terrible. We censor show, so it's gonna.
- 17:48Perfect. Beep.
- 17:50Beep. Beep.
- 17:53Oh my God. That's what I love about Ill
- 17:55though, I just felt like it's so relatable because it's just
- 17:57like, I shouldn't pay attention to this but I am and that should
- 18:00be me and not you fucking scream it so.
- 18:03Real. And then the bridge, like it
- 18:05also kind of gets me off like it's oh.
- 18:07My God yes, it's like that song is too real.
- 18:10Those are like the most real lyrics on the album.
- 18:12Oh my gosh, no. Like that song yourself is like
- 18:14magnum opus. Yeah 'cause you asked me for the
- 18:16show start You like your favorite on the album and
- 18:18you're. I think it's meltdown like.
- 18:19It's ill, it's ill ill ill. So underrated.
- 18:22Like if Taylor put out ill it'd be like literally the biggest.
- 18:25We're gonna. Blow it up we are.
- 18:26OK, we should make it a single single.
- 18:28Let's do it. Yes, it's like, that one's so
- 18:30fucking good. So good, I'm so like it's just
- 18:33it'll get the attention it deserves soon.
- 18:34I'm gonna make sure it does. Yeah, Everyone's dream ill right
- 18:37now. If you wanna know what I was
- 18:38going through in September 2025, Yeah.
- 18:40So check it out. Basically, when you're doing the
- 18:42rollout for Genius. I was losing my fucking mind.
- 18:44My producers laughing. They've all, they've all seen.
- 18:46They've all seen me lose my mind over the.
- 18:48Last couple months. No, it does.
- 18:50And then you soundtracked it for me.
- 18:52Oh. My God.
- 18:53That's why I love the album so much.
- 18:54Says. But you know, we talked about
- 18:56the writing on Ill. It's so good.
- 18:58But one of the most cleverly written songs on Genius is Wink
- 19:02Wink. That one's crazy.
- 19:03I mean, that must have been a bitch to write.
- 19:05Oh my God, I was. You put the hogs like, let's go.
- 19:08Figuring out the play on all the words was like such a mind I
- 19:11would. Never have anybody do that.
- 19:12Just genuinely, genuinely, I would not have anybody do that
- 19:14like. We almost gave up on the song
- 19:16because we're like, I can't think of anything else.
- 19:18Like it was insane. We had to come back to it
- 19:20because it was just such a mind fuck.
- 19:22Like it started with a note. It all starts in my notes.
- 19:26But I put the hot in psychotic because I wanted to write that
- 19:29song with my best friend and collaborator Madison Love for
- 19:32like 3 years and we like couldn't figure it out It just
- 19:34like. Wasn't working Madison on ill or
- 19:37creepin? She we wrote creepin together.
- 19:39I was looking at the credits. And I saw my name.
- 19:40Best songwriter ever. Love her that was.
- 19:42Incredible. That's what I clocked because I
- 19:43was looking at the songwriting credits.
- 19:45Creepin is another one of my favs.
- 19:46I want to get into that, but I want to keep talking about Wink
- 19:48and. Wink.
- 19:49Oh my God. Yeah, so clever.
- 19:51Yeah, so we're like, I put the audience psychotic, we're gonna
- 19:53write the song. We tried a few times, so like
- 19:54never worked out. And then we finally got it and
- 19:57we're like, we got it. Like we got it.
- 19:58This it's not it's not called it without in psychotic, but like
- 20:01we got the lyric and that's all that mattered.
- 20:03Yeah, and it opens the song. It opens the song.
- 20:05You immediately know this is about to be fucking and iconic.
- 20:08Yeah, yes, those are the most psychotic lyrics of all time.
- 20:12So psychotic, like I was telling you, like I put the diss and
- 20:14obedience. I just clocked that today.
- 20:16Yeah, that's a. Weak wink 'cause you release it
- 20:18prior to Genius too. Yeah.
- 20:19And I was just like, Oh my God, there it is.
- 20:21It's so insane. That song is like batshit.
- 20:24And then the chorus, like, am I single?
- 20:27Absolutely. Wink, wink.
- 20:28Are you? It's so great you're.
- 20:29Crazy. That's so crazy.
- 20:31My friends listen to that. They're like, this is the most
- 20:33you song we've ever heard. And I fucking love that.
- 20:37You just. So realized as a pop star.
- 20:39Yeah, right. You know exactly what you want.
- 20:41And what you're going to say, I just realized I still want to be
- 20:43honest in my songs. Like why not?
- 20:45Oh my God, fuck it. I'll just be like, brutally
- 20:47honest. Yeah, the crazy girl is like me,
- 20:49like. Yeah, right.
- 20:51Like why be basic and like? Like I said, you bring something
- 20:55so new to the pop scene. Like, thank you.
- 20:57You're what pop music needs right now.
- 20:59It's reminds me of like early 2010's Ke$ha when she came onto
- 21:02the scene, you know what I mean? 100%.
- 21:04And Speaking of Ke$ha, so you Co wrote attention.
- 21:06I sure did. That song is such a fucking
- 21:08banger. How did that come about?
- 21:09So Attention by Ke$ha, featuring Slater and Rose Gray.
- 21:13Rose Gray, right? I was in the studio with my
- 21:16friend and collaborator Pink Slip, and Ke$ha called, and it
- 21:19was like, what's up? And he was like, I'm just
- 21:21sitting with Thea Kate right now.
- 21:22Do you want to come by? And she's like, yeah, for sure.
- 21:24And I was like, what the fuck? Ke$ha's coming.
- 21:27He's like, yeah. And then she got there and she's
- 21:29like, play me your stuff. And I started playing her all my
- 21:32new songs. She's like, let's write
- 21:33something. And I was like.
- 21:34Stop. I'm Gaggiana.
- 21:35Say less. And we literally wrote that song
- 21:38and a week later they're like, it's coming out.
- 21:40And I was like, sorry, Oh my God, are you kidding?
- 21:44And that is crazy. I was like a dream come true.
- 21:46I was texting my manager the whole timing like, I'm running
- 21:48with Keja, I'm running with Keja.
- 21:49What do I do? Shut.
- 21:50The hell up. And that's crazy because I feel
- 21:51like when you write a song like you, usually it can take years
- 21:54before it even comes out. Oh, years.
- 21:55Like Creepin is 2 years old. Yeah, it can take years.
- 21:59Oh my God, and Creepin is actually my current fave because
- 22:02this was in the new batch because you did the X12 and
- 22:05three and I love Creepin and I was telling you before the show,
- 22:08but the bridge of Creepin is so Ke$ha.
- 22:10Oh my God, it's so Ke$ha. We wrote it like with the
- 22:13intention of getting Ke$ha on it.
- 22:14We had no luck, so it stayed my vocal.
- 22:16But you know what? I got a Ke$ha cut this year so
- 22:18it's OK. Period.
- 22:19It kind of worked out and. Honestly, period.
- 22:20Creepin people get on the remix. Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
- 22:24It belongs to me. That's a good idea.
- 22:25Let's get Ke$ha on the remix. Let's get Ke$ha on the remix.
- 22:28Ke$ha, do you want to be on the remix of my song Creepin because
- 22:30I wrote a part for you? I had no luck in getting you on,
- 22:33but it's never too late. I'm shooting my shot.
- 22:35Wait, would she go on the bridge?
- 22:37For sure. OK the bridge of creepin is so
- 22:40Ke$ha and I felt like it was so much homage to because you start
- 22:42auto tuning yourself through. It Oh my God, yeah, your.
- 22:44Delivery was so Ke$ha. Right.
- 22:46I sang it for Ke$ha. I literally wrote for Ke$ha.
- 22:48I was supposed to be on the part.
- 22:49It was not for me. No fucking yeah.
- 22:52No, I love that you did it, though.
- 22:53Yeah, I know. That song is so good because
- 22:55then it's like, it's so relatable being out with someone
- 22:57new, being drunk so. And missing my.
- 23:00Alcoholic era. Oh my gosh, it's proudly.
- 23:02Right now, but I am sure it's a problem, but we'll get.
- 23:04Into it at some point. We'll unpack that later.
- 23:07We'll. Talk about that later.
- 23:07We'll talk about that in therapy.
- 23:08Not to Lulu, but basically just like that is so fucking real.
- 23:11Being with someone new, being drunky monkeys and then like
- 23:15have you creep starts creeping in.
- 23:16Yeah, and. It's just so well written, like
- 23:18I was telling you, like the lights through the blinds.
- 23:20Like the spiders? And the post chorus like.
- 23:22I'm with the guy and I'm drunk out my mind and I thought I was
- 23:25fine till the thought of you was creeping and just like the
- 23:28lights flashing right through the blinds, like the spiders in
- 23:31the night. Yeah, the thought of you is
- 23:33creepin then. Creepin, creepin, creepin,
- 23:37creepin. Wasn't wasn't gonna come in here
- 23:40and do acapella today. I don't know.
- 23:41What the fuck? I mean, we just gotta do what?
- 23:45Wait, I'm living 'cause I love creeping.
- 23:47Wait, what if I was bullshitting you and I actually know the
- 23:49songs? Oh my God, you're like not
- 23:51singing along. I'm like, hmm, why don't you
- 23:53know that lyrics? I thought it's your favorite
- 23:55song. Oh my God, right.
- 23:56Oh my God. Call me out.
- 23:58Stop. No, I'm a fan obsessed.
- 23:59So you and I, No, I know you're like a real one.
- 24:02OK, good. You listen.
- 24:03I can tell. Good.
- 24:04I like know your little choreo that you did for the Meltdown
- 24:06visualizer? Stop.
- 24:08That's what I was dancing to. Like, I was like dumb guys, you
- 24:11know what I mean? Oh my God, dumb guys.
- 24:13Bar 5. I'm micronuclear and I my follow
- 24:19my whole life right off the face of the air.
- 24:23Imagine if I. Really didn't.
- 24:24Oh. My God, he's passed the test.
- 24:26Everyone he knows the. Lyrics So at the time I had
- 24:30written a song called Self-destructive because this
- 24:32guy said I was very self-destructive.
- 24:34And your song Meltdown didn't have the leader.
- 24:38Chip I could post on Spotify, but I wanted it to be like, I
- 24:41wanted to post the I might go nuclear and I might just blow my
- 24:43whole life, you know what I mean?
- 24:45Right off the face of the earth. A little nod to it, but yeah,
- 24:49yeah, I love Meltdown. It's actually the song currently
- 24:51on my Instagram. You know how you can play a song
- 24:53on your Instagram? Are you kidding?
- 24:54It's. Literally a song on my
- 24:56Instagram. Do I follow you?
- 24:57Well, you don't have to if you don't want to, but you can
- 24:59verify that Meltdown is the song.
- 25:02Oh my God. Wait, wait.
- 25:03I'm just going to show you like OK Why is like my free page?
- 25:08This a silly little crush. I haven't been able to sleep in
- 25:11three days. My screen time is 8 hours.
- 25:15Following Liz. Memorized.
- 25:16OK, genius. It's just like, it's literally
- 25:20like my stupid free page me when Mr. Mixed Signals decides he
- 25:24likes me today. OK, this is like me right now
- 25:27and. Then you write an album about
- 25:28it. And then I literally wrote an
- 25:29album about it. What's your Instagram?
- 25:31Ryan, Lou. Ryan.
- 25:33Lu. Lu am I?
- 25:35The first thing Emotions. No, is it not?
- 25:38Oh, you are third. I was.
- 25:40Like wait, why am I not the first?
- 25:42I've followed you back, thank you.
- 25:44Where do you see? Meltdown.
- 25:46Let me see. It's on the my bio.
- 25:48Oh my reverifying 'cause I'm like maybe thank.
- 25:51God, it's literally in your bio, duh.
- 25:53I fucking love Meltdown. Oh my God, I'm obsessed.
- 25:57Yes, and I love Easter eggs and that's how I'm feeling.
- 25:59I too was having a meltdown. Oh my God, I'm still having a
- 26:01meltdown. Do you have a meltdown a day
- 26:03'cause I do. Really feel like I do, I crash
- 26:04out so much. Wait, same If you have a
- 26:06meltdown a day then genius keeps the doctor away.
- 26:11Oh. T yeah.
- 26:12TTT OK I love hearing that my producer's laughing because I
- 26:15literally crash out to him like daily.
- 26:16Wait, Sam, Really. I crash out daily.
- 26:19I have this one friend named Lolo who's an artist.
- 26:21Yeah, yeah. And I would like FaceTime right
- 26:24now and see if she could like come on really quick.
- 26:27That would work because. I'm on a podcast and I would
- 26:29like you to be on for a second. Please answer my call right now.
- 26:32And. She just put out a song, right?
- 26:33She. Did.
- 26:34On your story. We're going to call her really
- 26:36quickly. If she doesn't answer, we're
- 26:37going to be so mad at her because.
- 26:39We're not streaming. We are not going to stream her
- 26:41songs if she doesn't answer this damn call.
- 26:45The hat looks so good on you. I'm obsessed.
- 26:47Like, oh. My God, I'm so happy you're
- 26:48wearing it. I'm so mad at her.
- 26:51We're dropping her. We are dropping her.
- 26:53We're not streaming by. OK, Lolo, sorry.
- 26:55So basically I call her once a day for like for the crash out
- 26:59for like a different crash out. And I feel like she's like
- 27:01borderline annoyed now but she still loves it.
- 27:05But she's one of those friends who's like annoyed but if I
- 27:07don't tell her something and she's mad.
- 27:09So I'm like you need to relax and answer my call when I call.
- 27:13Literally. I mean, it's simple.
- 27:14Yeah, it's so simple like it. Doesn't take a genius.
- 27:16It doesn't take a genius but she's like my crash out friend.
- 27:18Like I call her for all of the crash outs.
- 27:20She knows like all of my secrets.
- 27:22So if you guys want to find out anything about me, just become
- 27:24her. Friend, we'll have her on the
- 27:25show so we can get a little. More.
- 27:26Yeah, yeah. That's so crazy.
- 27:29Yeah. My crash outs, they're so
- 27:30intense. My team, I know.
- 27:31They're so sick of me right now. Oh.
- 27:33My God. Right?
- 27:33Same. Literally same.
- 27:35Oh my God, I feel so bad because I've been so guys, I want
- 27:38everyone to know I have been straight up performing through
- 27:42this entire situation of the past three months.
- 27:43This is like the worst three months of my life, Scott.
- 27:46Are you OK? I, I don't know, am I OK?
- 27:49He's laughing. I, I don't know, am I OK?
- 27:51Oh my God, we're all not OK. I mean, period.
- 27:53And that's why we're streaming, genius.
- 27:54Yeah, so we can feel better. Stream Genius so you can feel
- 27:57better about your dumb fuck decisions that you made over the
- 28:00weekend or just in your life. We'd be making them.
- 28:03Yeah. OK, so I also love stupid.
- 28:06That's so fucking real. Just to be like dumb just so we
- 28:09can like. So we can hang out?
- 28:11No, that's so me. Like I would still see you even
- 28:14though I know I shouldn't. Like I'll play stupid.
- 28:16Do you see what I mean about like this album being Oh my God,
- 28:19genius? It is so well written.
- 28:21Thank you. It's.
- 28:22Just Oh my God, like this is. Your message I wrote stupid with
- 28:25the girl that I wrote 10 things I hate about you with also Oh.
- 28:27My God we. I also like that it's next to
- 28:30Genius on the track listing the last two songs.
- 28:32Stupid genius, Stupid genius. It's not funny.
- 28:35It's so clever and smart, it like fits together.
- 28:38It does. Right, I know people are
- 28:39clocking that. Too.
- 28:40They're clocking that because I'm a stupid genius.
- 28:42Are you? I'm a stupid genius.
- 28:44Yeah, we built our period, period we're.
- 28:46Stupid to Lulu geniuses. Yeah, 100%.
- 28:49Period. We'll take it.
- 28:50Period. Well, this album is such an
- 28:51experience in the world that you built around it.
- 28:53Thank you. Oh my.
- 28:54God, more. I want more now as a fan.
- 28:56A deluxe, perhaps? OK, wait, what about the deluxe?
- 28:59What are we saying? There's a deluxe in the works.
- 29:01Stop. And it might be better than the
- 29:03actual album itself. I mean, I honestly completely
- 29:06believe you. We demand more.
- 29:07We demand more. Just wait for the deluxe.
- 29:11You're going to like drop dead. Sorry, I don't I don't actually
- 29:15mean that, but like you know what I mean?
- 29:16You're going to like. We're like on such a same
- 29:19wavelength. We are right.
- 29:20I have a. Session on Friday and the
- 29:22concept I have and the song I want to work on is called Better
- 29:25Off Dead. Oh my God, love.
- 29:27So if it comes out, we're clipping this.
- 29:30I'm taking a songwriting credit. OK, you'll get a.
- 29:32Percentage. Yes.
- 29:33Love that. I mean, you are on the mood
- 29:35board for it. Am I?
- 29:36Yes. Stop.
- 29:37I'm not kidding. The reference is ill.
- 29:39Can I show you? Yes.
- 29:39Can you hand me my phone? Stop.
- 29:41Like. You're kidding.
- 29:43I'm literally not kidding. I'm going to show you right now.
- 29:46I don't know if it's going to show up on the camera.
- 29:48So everyone first we're streaming Genius by Leah Kate.
- 29:52Yes, we are. This is my session the
- 29:55references. Oh my God.
- 29:58It's literally. No.
- 29:59It is literally ill. Oh my fucking God I love this so
- 30:03much. It's like this is amazing.
- 30:05I love when I make like the reference list.
- 30:08Yes, seriously. I.
- 30:09Mean it's. Just so.
- 30:11It's an incredible we're like that.
- 30:14What's it called? The 16 Chapel thing?
- 30:16Yeah, you know that again. I have no idea.
- 30:18Yeah, that thing we're like dumb and Dumber.
- 30:21Oh my God, yeah. Oh my God.
- 30:22You know those? What's that mean Where it's like
- 30:25two dumb bitches saying exactly that's that's?
- 30:28Exactly. That is literally 2 geniuses. 2
- 30:31geniuses. OK, we love it and I love two
- 30:32stupid. Geniuses on my track.
- 30:34Oh, you like genius? Yeah, the title track.
- 30:36I mean, honestly, the verses and the way that you delivered it
- 30:38were so interesting. Like it was so like tongue in
- 30:40cheek and like you're so sarcastic and it was just like
- 30:43so callous. You know, Oh my God, I really
- 30:45wanted to deliver it that way. I rerecorded it like so many
- 30:48times because it needed to have that tone and like sauce and
- 30:52tongue in cheek nature behind it because I was talking to my
- 30:55biggest crush being like, okay, so we're talking at the party.
- 31:00Yeah, you know, can. I just tell you how smart that
- 31:02is because the song being called genius and you're delivering it,
- 31:05so your cadence is so. Dumb and valid.
- 31:07So dumb. Yeah.
- 31:09I hope you know I clocked that was that.
- 31:10Intentional. No, that was intentional.
- 31:11OK, for sure. How?
- 31:12Smart you are. As a writer.
- 31:13Yeah. Like that's crazy.
- 31:15Had to sound like a dumb fuck but I'm really a genius.
- 31:18Literally, that's what I love about it.
- 31:19Like the concept of the entire project is so good.
- 31:21Oh my God, thank you. I love a good concept.
- 31:23Nothing makes me happier than like a great concept.
- 31:26When we came up with Genius, I was like, that's it, yes, that's
- 31:29just it. Like, I mean it's just start to.
- 31:31Like rhyming genius with indecent is I.
- 31:33Would Oh my God. Like, right. 100% genius.
- 31:37Genius, genius. You're a genius.
- 31:39Thank you. So I also love two years.
- 31:41It's like super vulnerable it is.
- 31:43But I also like that it starts off really soft and acoustic and
- 31:46then like it hits. Yeah, two years was about my
- 31:49brother passed away a couple years ago and I wrote that song
- 31:52about him and that was the first song I ever wrote about him
- 31:54because it was honestly too hard to write about.
- 31:56Like I couldn't even think about it.
- 31:58Still honestly can't. But like finally I was like, I
- 32:01need to write a song about it. And we, we wrote that and oh.
- 32:04My God, it's a beautiful song. Thank you.
- 32:06Oh my God. It's like that one is like
- 32:07really sad. Well.
- 32:08I love the range they have on the album and like showing the
- 32:10sides of yourself too. Thank you.
- 32:12That's incredible. I'm going to listen to it
- 32:13differently now 'cause I oh. My God didn't.
- 32:15Clock that. Thank you.
- 32:17That's what I like. Like this is a fun album and
- 32:19like the more you listen to it, you're going to notice things
- 32:20like I said about like in the Diss and Obedience.
- 32:23Like that was new too. I just clocked that on my way
- 32:24here. I It's like every listen you're
- 32:26going to clock something else that's new.
- 32:27It's. Just a such a fun experience.
- 32:29It's just such a good album. Like congratulations on the.
- 32:31Release. Oh my God, I love you.
- 32:33We I'm such a fan so. Oh my gosh.
- 32:35OK so I have been talking to you for a minute now and I do not
- 32:41know your Zodiac sign. I want to take a little guessy
- 32:43based on everything you're saying.
- 32:44Yeah, let's guess. Oh God, I don't know.
- 32:47Unapologetic. I want to say Leo, but no, I'm
- 32:48not going to go with Leo. I want to say Aquarius because
- 32:50they're free. No, I'm not going with that.
- 32:53You're Virgo. I'm a Virgo.
- 32:54OK, T. Because, thank God, because.
- 32:56We're so similar. I'm a Virgo.
- 32:58You are. I'm a Virgo.
- 32:59Oh, my God. Stop.
- 33:01Yes. Oh, my God.
- 33:02OK. You're such a Virgo.
- 33:02Because I was like, everything you think and everything you do
- 33:04is so me. So I'm like.
- 33:06We both This makes so much more sense I.
- 33:08Know and Virgos have such a bad rap.
- 33:09They do right, right. But like, we're the best out
- 33:11there. The.
- 33:12Best like an unearned bad rap, right?
- 33:14Yeah, it's like fucked up. Yes, entirely.
- 33:16Like, give us a chance. Give us a chance.
- 33:18Right, we'll write an album about you.
- 33:20Yeah, we will. It's going to be a good Don't do
- 33:22us dirty because you'll hear about it.
- 33:24Oh my God, so I love quoting people in my lyrics and I'm
- 33:27always like you're a Co writer now so if you don't if.
- 33:30You. Oh my God.
- 33:32Me. I will.
- 33:35I'm so I have a lot. I'm writing like you.
- 33:37You really are on the mood board right now because I'm feeling
- 33:39clue scorned. Oh my God, done.
- 33:42You should like I am your your reference.
- 33:44You're the reference guy show I'm your inspire.
- 33:46You're literally the reference, love.
- 33:48OK, well we're going to play a little game here.
- 33:49OK, so this is WW8 DGD. What would a delulu girl do?
- 33:54Oh. My God.
- 33:56What would a genius girl do? Yeah, so.
- 33:58We have some delulu besties submitted questions and we're
- 34:00going to give our best delulu slash genius advice to them.
- 34:03Oh. Perfect.
- 34:04I love giving advice. OK, same.
- 34:06We're very qualify for it, clearly.
- 34:07Yeah. All right, so our first question
- 34:09is, I'm making it super obvious I'm into this guy, but he's not
- 34:13getting the hint. What should I do?
- 34:15Text him and say what are you doing tonight?
- 34:17Want to hang out? Yeah, just do.
- 34:18It just like ask like what is there to lose?
- 34:20I'm such a fan of just telling people how I feel and just like
- 34:24doing it and. Like, I like camping games,
- 34:26yeah. Yes, I do like games, but like
- 34:28in a. Crazy way in a crazy way in.
- 34:29A crazy fun way, you know what I mean?
- 34:31For sure. I mean, honestly, I guess what I
- 34:33would say to this person is, I don't know.
- 34:36It doesn't take a genius. Doesn't take a genius.
- 34:38Doesn't get him. Yeah.
- 34:39Just so easy. I always tell people I feel
- 34:42about them. It's very rare for me to like
- 34:44someone. So if I like someone, I'll be
- 34:45like, I like you. Literally the same, yeah.
- 34:47I then have to tell them yes. Yeah, or make an album about it.
- 34:50Yeah, or make an album about it. Literally.
- 34:52Absolutely. Wait, are you still in that
- 34:54situation that genius was about? No.
- 34:57OK. So yeah, no comment.
- 35:02You're like, where's my PR team? Where's my PR team?
- 35:05OK, fair enough. We're excited for the deluxe.
- 35:08Yes, we are. Story's not over.
- 35:09Yeah. OK, so here's our next one.
- 35:12All my friends hate the guy I'm dating, but I really like him.
- 35:14Is it a problem or should I just ignore them?
- 35:16Ignore them. I would ignore them.
- 35:18I also like a little controversy.
- 35:19Yeah, I love some controversy. Yeah, I find that like people,
- 35:23I, like all my friends, always hate.
- 35:24Me too. I mean, there's always like, Oh
- 35:27my God. Yeah, same.
- 35:28Right. I'm like.
- 35:30Who's the problem here? Yeah, I always find the problem
- 35:33and bring them home. Same.
- 35:34Same same same. OK love that.
- 35:37So I think I have a crush on one of my best friend's boyfriend.
- 35:40I can't get over it. What should I do?
- 35:41What are we thinking? You just have to get over it,
- 35:46really. Yeah, if it's your best friend
- 35:48like you don't. Want to ruin the friendship?
- 35:49You don't want to ruin the friendship like the friendship.
- 35:51But you don't really like this friendship?
- 35:53Yeah. If it's just like a crush, like
- 35:55get over it. I would say out of sight, out of
- 35:57mind. Distance helps so much because
- 35:59proximity is such a real thing. Yeah, it is just like don't ever
- 36:03think about him or go hang out with him.
- 36:04Set a boundary. Yeah, just like.
- 36:06Yeah, if this friend means something to you.
- 36:08If she doesn't, then I guess whatever, go for it.
- 36:11But if it's like, if it's like your best friend, then yeah.
- 36:14We don't want. An I'll situation.
- 36:15No, we don't. No, no, no.
- 36:18T Hell no. I love I'll so much.
- 36:20Love, we're going to stream it after this.
- 36:22Hell yeah. I'm literally going to stream it
- 36:23after this. I'm going to go right into the
- 36:25studio right now. You're better.
- 36:25Blast the album, love. Oh my God, we.
- 36:28Need to do something psychotic? Eye looking pictures all the
- 36:31time you. I want to dress up.
- 36:33Bought it. Blame my sadistic, I don't mind.
- 36:36But you're on your best behaviour.
- 36:40I remember nights when. We were trashed, never took
- 36:45before a traitor. Turn around and.
- 36:47Stab me in the back, I feel like an idiot.
- 36:51You really know the words Shit you were not.
- 36:53Kidding. It's a wordy 1 though.
- 36:54Yeah, pictures on the Internet like you and his friend.
- 37:00Oh yeah, you know what I mean, love.
- 37:03Oh my God, that song's so good. It's really, what if I didn't
- 37:05know the lyrics and you like, try.
- 37:06I feel like this podcast is over.
- 37:09Just get up and walk out. Never.
- 37:11I mean, that song's so fucking good.
- 37:13Oh my God, I know. And the idiot line is so real.
- 37:16So real. Oh, and then like when you do
- 37:18your oh, oh, I'm not going to attempt it going.
- 37:21Oh my God. Also the vocal production is
- 37:22dreamy as fuck. The vocal is pretty good, right?
- 37:25When you get. To the I recorded this song.
- 37:27Shout out to my producer Zach Skelton.
- 37:29We recorded this song 7 times. No, fucking even more.
- 37:34Like, should we get him on FaceTime?
- 37:36Really. Quick, you tell him.
- 37:37Oh my God, because I'll do research.
- 37:38He looks buff. Wait, Oh, he's buff.
- 37:41Hold on, let's call him really quick.
- 37:42Zach. Zach.
- 37:45We're bringing a lot of guests on today.
- 37:46We're bringing so many guests. Hold on, we're going to FaceTime
- 37:49him really quick, Really quick. We need him.

- 37:55he's like on dad duty but please.

- 37:59He has to answer me. Please, please, in the spirit of
- 38:02ill. Please answer please.
- 38:04I want to talk about how many different times we recorded this
- 38:06song, no. Tell him to call back.
- 38:09We'll. Answer him to call back.
- 38:10We will answer. We will answer.
- 38:12To get there. OK, let me let me text him.
- 38:14Hold on, Zach. Urgent.
- 38:16Call me now. Exclamation point 9. 11911.
- 38:20That's urgent. Call me now.
- 38:24Perfect. We recorded that song.
- 38:26You're so crazy. Wait, that's me texting.
- 38:30Oh my God, you know, like we recorded the song maybe even 10
- 38:34times. Like every time we recorded it I
- 38:35was like I hate it. And I came back and like did it
- 38:38again. Oh my God.
- 38:39He texted me. Hold on.
- 38:40Oh my God. OK, can't talk in a sesh, not
- 38:43even for one min. 40 seconds. 40 seconds.
- 38:48We just want confirmation. 40 seconds. 40 seconds lol I'm just
- 38:52going to call him again. Shameless begging.
- 38:56Shameless begging. 40 seconds. You're literally so me.
- 38:59I'm so crazy. Like this is the thing.
- 39:01Like crazy too. I like to get what I want.
- 39:05Me too, you know? Yeah, Literally.
- 39:06He's typing I. Feel like I always get what I
- 39:08want. Though do we think he's going to
- 39:09call? I think he's going to step out
- 39:10and call. Hold on.
- 39:12He's going to step out and call. We're going to manifest it.
- 39:15Oh, my God. He thinks it's like an emergency
- 39:17function. I feel bad.
- 39:18No, we. Need to talk about ill.
- 39:19Oh, my God, we need to talk about it.
- 39:21OK, I think he's I think he's going to call.
- 39:22OK, No, but he's calling. But we need to FaceTime.
- 39:26I'm Facetiming FaceTime. FaceTime.
- 39:28FaceTime. I feel like an idiot.
- 39:35She's answer. Sucking on a cigarette.
- 39:38Zach, Zach, Zach, please answer. Is he should I, I should have
- 39:44accepted his call. I should have just accepted the
- 39:47call. OK, I'm just going to call.
- 39:49I'm just going to call. We're going to we're going to
- 39:50get this. We're going to make it.
- 39:52FaceTime won't work on my end. Zach, don't kill me.
- 39:58I'm in a podcast right now and we're talking about say hi to
- 40:01the podcast. Hi Zach, we're talking about ill
- 40:05and how many times I made you rerecord my vocal on it.
- 40:09Can you clarify? I want to say.
- 40:11We 5 or 6 different days. Different days.
- 40:15It was worth it. It's so good, the bridge is so
- 40:17good, it's all good. It was my favorite song on the
- 40:19album. You are a God.
- 40:22Thank you. Thank you, Zach.
- 40:24We apologize. Honestly, we don't we don't tell
- 40:27Leah, but we kept like her first takes for most everything he's
- 40:31going to find out on the show. Oh my God, we love the that's.
- 40:34Insane. It's just you're ready.
- 40:35I just kept doing worse and worse.
- 40:37We probably did go with like the first take.
- 40:40He was basically like you wasted our time magic.
- 40:42From the top. You're so right, Zach.
- 40:43I should have listened to you. They were so good.
- 40:45First instinct first. Well, Zach, love you and miss
- 40:49you. And I'm going to come visit you
- 40:50in Nashville soon. Please do.
- 40:52I will. OK, have a good session.
- 40:55Bye. Girl.
- 40:56He hates you. Kill me.
- 40:57He. Hates you?
- 40:58Oh, you wasted that. Man's time.
- 41:00I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry that.
- 41:03Was good. Yeah, that was good.
- 41:05Wait, that's so funny. I like that you're like truly
- 41:07chaotic. I'm truly insane.
- 41:09You're truly. Chaotic, chaotic.
- 41:11Love that. That's super good.
- 41:12I am who I portray myself to be in the songs.
- 41:15Super authentic to you? Yeah, I was literally, Oh my
- 41:18God, 'cause I was telling how I was telling for how excited I
- 41:20was to have you on the show. And he was really excited to
- 41:22have you, too. And I was like, no, listen to
- 41:23her lyrics. She's so unhinged.
- 41:24Oh my God. I was like, she's like, crazy
- 41:26love you, they'll love you. You write for me, 'cause I was
- 41:28like, that's the one, OK. So I'm dying, though we kept the
- 41:31first take. That's so true.
- 41:33It's so good. We did we literally 7 different
- 41:35days OK and I kept the original vocal.
- 41:37That is so funny. You're just wasting that man's
- 41:39time. He wanted to murder me.
- 41:41By the end I was like, this is the last time I swear.
- 41:43They chose the best one. It sounds so dreamy 'cause I
- 41:45also feel like you don't get enough praise for being a
- 41:47vocalist too. Ohh yeah.
- 41:49Like, literally. Yeah, right.
- 41:50I don't like she uses auto tune. I'm like no, I like.
- 41:53Well, yeah, I do. But also saying that too 'cause
- 41:55it's. Just like pop star pencils A
- 41:57vocal effect. But yeah, Ill is like you sound
- 42:00so good and creeping too. Love you.
- 42:02Oh my God I love you. OK, so clearly we're crazy,
- 42:05girly whirly. Crazy.
- 42:06Crazy, very delulu. So I want to know what your most
- 42:09delulu take is. Do you have one for me?
- 42:12What's delulu? Delusional, crazy,
- 42:14controversial. What do you think is like a
- 42:15little crazy out there? I mean, you're, you're kind of
- 42:17all of it. But like something I've done.
- 42:19Something you've done, something you are, something you think.
- 42:22I just think I'm like so impulsive, it's insane.
- 42:25I don't even let like my thoughts process.
- 42:27I just think of something and I go and I don't think about like
- 42:29the end results of anything. I'm just like, that's a great
- 42:32idea and I'll do something and like I won't think.
- 42:35And sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
- 42:37But I would say that's like the most delulent thing about me.
- 42:39Can I tell you? Yeah, my publicist, when we're
- 42:41getting on the show, he told me that no, that you're impulsive.
- 42:44Stop He. Was like, she's so random, Ryan.
- 42:47So just. Roll the bunches.
- 42:48I'm crying. I know, God.
- 42:50Thank you, Charlie. I wish you were here.
- 42:51Thank you, Charlie. Ohio way thing, Yeah, yeah, He
- 42:54told me that it was the right prep for me though.
- 42:56Yeah, he was just like, she's gonna be very like random and
- 42:59all over place. I'm like, okay, we're gonna make
- 43:00it. That's pretty spot on.
- 43:01I love that. Yeah, okay.
- 43:03You're really true to your brand.
- 43:04Yeah, I am right. You thought I was?
- 43:07Yeah, absolutely. And I'm loving it.
- 43:09I'm super happy about it. Okay, perfect.
- 43:11Okay, cuz if you were, I feel like when I make my music I put
- 43:14on, I don't put on a persona, but it's like also like the most
- 43:16dramatic, chaotic version of myself.
- 43:18Oh, for sure. No, me too.
- 43:20Like there are parts of me that's like I'm just a psycho
- 43:22dog mom who likes to get in bed at 7:00 PM and go to sleep.
- 43:25But like, I'm loyal. Yeah, exactly.
- 43:27But I'm still like me at like the core like.
- 43:29I love that and it comes off so good.
- 43:31Thank you. Seriously, I can't even imagine
- 43:32if this album didn't exist because like I said like it
- 43:34really got me through or is getting me through all.
- 43:37It's written like literally every song like has a different
- 43:40like in my life right now, like creeping right now for me
- 43:42because I've been getting super drunk over the weekend.
- 43:45The thoughts be creeping in. Literally, literally, the
- 43:48thought of you is creeping in. So that's like the most truest
- 43:51words I've ever said. Absolutely.
- 43:53I completely agree with that. Yeah.
- 43:55OK. Well, Leah, this has been such a
- 43:56joy. I want you on forever, please.
- 43:59We want to talk so much more about.
- 44:00Oh my God, yeah, we all come back for the deluxe if there is
- 44:03one. Please.
- 44:05Of course there's going to be deluxe.
- 44:06Possibly as long as we stream Genius.
- 44:08Yeah, as long as you stream the damn album, then maybe I'll put
- 44:10up more music. If not, I'll retire.
- 44:12OK. And we're not letting that
- 44:13happen. We're not letting that happen.
- 44:15Do you want Leah Kate to quit music?
- 44:17I don't think so. So if you don't, go stream
- 44:19Genius the album. Very big, bold, dramatic
- 44:21statements on brand. On brand I will quit.
- 44:25Oh, I love it. Just kidding, Leah, we close
- 44:28every show by manifesting together.
- 44:29Is there anything you want to speak into existence right now
- 44:31here on the Lulu? Yeah, let's speak into
- 44:33existence. That genius album is going to be
- 44:35the biggest album in the whole fucking audience.
- 44:37Yeah, and every single song is going to be a radio hit.
- 44:40Oh my God, you wrote them to be radio hits.
