- 2:32Speaker 2: Shell.
- 2:32Speaker 5: It caused trouble. If he found Doc there.
- 2:35Speaker 4: He sure would he'd beat him half to death.
- 2:39Speaker 3: Maybe I better ride out with you, Doc, just in
- 2:41Speaker 3: case Shell comes home while you're there.
- 2:43Speaker 2: It's a good idea. I think you'd better.
- 2:45Speaker 3: Uh Ruf you know Chester, don't you sure. I'll go
- 2:48Speaker 3: over to the Long Branch and tell him that I
- 2:50Speaker 3: wanted to go with us.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Who came Marshall?
- 3:07Speaker 4: At least mister Dollon.
- 3:11Speaker 5: I don't know Chester. Doc's still working on her.
- 3:16Speaker 4: Well, I ain't no sign of Shell anyway.
- 3:20Speaker 5: That's some help.
- 3:21Speaker 4: What's the matter?
- 3:22Speaker 3: Man?
- 3:22Speaker 4: When I said, mister Dillon heating doctors the way he.
- 3:25Speaker 5: Does, I don't know, Chester.
- 3:27Speaker 3: Probably there weren't any doctors around when he was young,
- 3:31Speaker 3: and I was good enough for his father's good enough
- 3:34Speaker 3: for him.
- 3:34Speaker 5: Some full of motion like that.
- 3:36Speaker 3: You know, Michelle always was a mean little tuss except
- 3:40Speaker 3: for his horses.
- 3:41Speaker 4: He's always treated horses like they as a human. Did
- 3:44Speaker 4: you ever notice.
- 3:44Speaker 5: That Shell wasn't really a bad man, Chester, He just
- 3:48Speaker 5: ignorant and prejudiced because of his ignorance.
- 3:52Speaker 2: If he'd have been here, he'd letting his tucker die
- 3:55Speaker 2: right and have Doc.
- 3:55Speaker 5: Operating around when he Yeah.
- 3:58Speaker 4: Probably, Oh that's bad to me, kid.
- 4:03Speaker 5: Maybe if Doc saved him some day, you might get
- 4:05Speaker 5: over his I.
- 4:06Speaker 2: Is and uh, Doc ain't gonna have a chance to
- 4:08Speaker 2: help call any He ain't never had a sick day
- 4:11Speaker 2: in his hole.
- 4:12Speaker 4: I finally a.
- 4:15Speaker 5: Help, rude. Yeah, all though it at least she doctor,
- 4:21Speaker 5: she's dead dead. I guess her heart couldn't take it.
- 4:27Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 4:27Speaker 2: I had to operate though she'd have died. Sure, if
- 4:30Speaker 2: I hadn't tied, it isn't sure a fault.
- 4:32Speaker 5: Doc. He that I'll get cooked her.
- 4:35Speaker 2: But I always feel maybe if I'd have done it better,
- 4:39Speaker 2: things like this wouldn't happen.
- 4:40Speaker 5: They're not to blame. Uh Uh. He don't want me
- 4:46Speaker 5: to tell Rufe. I've already told him.
- 4:48Speaker 4: He's in there with her.
- 4:49Speaker 5: Uh. How they take it? Didn't say it wouldn't it?
- 4:53Speaker 4: You know, Doc, you must be some more out.
- 5:00Speaker 5: Doct Oh yes, sir.
- 5:04Speaker 4: You too, Marshall. You gonna have to help me.
- 5:08Speaker 5: Sure, we'll help you, Rofe. What is it?
- 5:12Speaker 4: Well, it's about Paul.
- 5:13Speaker 5: Huh.
- 5:14Speaker 4: I don't know what to tell him when he comes back.
- 5:17Speaker 5: I just tell him the truth, Rufe. Doc tried to
- 5:21Speaker 5: say to your mother, but he wasn't able to Nobody could.
- 5:24Speaker 4: Have we You don't know Paul very well. I guess
- 5:29Speaker 4: he just don't stand for it.
- 5:31Speaker 5: There's nothing he can do about it. Now. It's a
- 5:34Speaker 5: wolf it.
- 5:36Speaker 4: When Paul says a thing, he means it.
- 5:38Speaker 2: And he said none of us was ever to go
- 5:40Speaker 2: near a doctor, Rufe.
- 5:43Speaker 5: Do you agree with your Paul's thinking?
- 5:46Speaker 4: No? Neither did Mar. But we didn't dare cross him
- 5:52Speaker 4: when he was around. Anyway, I'm afraid of him. Marshall.
- 5:57Speaker 4: You have to stay here and tell him.
- 5:58Speaker 2: And I've got to get out to the all the
- 6:00Speaker 2: old place that babies do anytime.
- 6:02Speaker 4: But you can't go now.
- 6:03Speaker 5: Stay early comes back roof Chester.
- 6:08Speaker 3: You better ride in the town in case anybody's looking in.
- 6:10Speaker 5: Front of him.
- 6:14Speaker 2: The funny thing how a doctor can lose one life
- 6:17Speaker 2: and maybe bring another into the world very same day.
- 6:25Speaker 2: Ones you can ride partway together.
- 6:43Speaker 3: I got another one those Civil War centennial stamps in
- 6:47Speaker 3: my album here, and you know, I kind of like
- 6:50Speaker 3: this the best of more because it's the one on
- 6:54Speaker 3: Appomatics where the Blue and the Gray got together and
- 6:58Speaker 3: decided to quit all let's shooting and killing. That's okay, now, yeah, yes, here, Now,
- 7:08Speaker 3: this this Appomatic was just a little town in Virginia,
- 7:13Speaker 3: but it got into history in a big way on
- 7:16Speaker 3: April the ninth, eighteen hundred and sixty five. That's when
- 7:21Speaker 3: General Robert E. Lee figured the South had had it
- 7:25Speaker 3: and asked General US Grant to come there and talk
- 7:28Speaker 3: it over. Now, they say the Union general showed up
- 7:33Speaker 3: wearing a private's uniform and kyn of money from the ride.
- 7:39Speaker 3: But looks didn't much matter. The thing was that Grant
- 7:43Speaker 3: took to heart what President Lincoln said, like it's on
- 7:47Speaker 3: the stamp with malice toward none. Yeah, and he made
- 7:53Speaker 3: the terms of surrender decent enough to go along with
- 7:57Speaker 3: to be to be real. Precade me only surrendered for
- 8:02Speaker 3: the Army of Virginia at Appomatics, and not for the
- 8:05Speaker 3: whole Confederacy. But when the word got around about it,
- 8:10Speaker 3: all the armies of the Hill threw away their guns
- 8:13Speaker 3: and came back home again.
- 8:30Speaker 5: I'll let out of god r.
- 8:33Speaker 4: I want her very good.
- 8:34Speaker 3: Marshall, about a cross you want to put across.
- 8:41Speaker 2: I'll let Paul design back.
- 8:49Speaker 4: Oh my gosh, Marshall, here it comes now.
- 8:53Speaker 5: Uh uh. That's like he's been riding pretty hard. I
- 8:59Speaker 5: mean I always.
- 9:01Speaker 4: Rides Hord, but he takes mighty good care of his
- 9:03Speaker 4: horses all the same. He's never hurt one yet.
- 9:07Speaker 5: Yeah, I know. Hello, they're a Marshall alright, yeah, shall.
- 9:13Speaker 2: Well, yeah, what are you doing out here?
- 9:18Speaker 3: Shall Your wife died, died roof and I just finished
- 9:29Speaker 3: burying her.
- 9:32Speaker 5: She died, you know, just a few hours ago.
- 9:34Speaker 3: We didn't know when you get back, so well, when
- 9:38Speaker 3: I hadn't buried her, would she die of?
- 9:43Speaker 5: Oh? She was holding some nails in her mouth and
- 9:46Speaker 5: she swallowed. When I'm roof, take this horse into the
- 9:52Speaker 5: barn and dry him off.
- 9:54Speaker 4: Sure, pump, well be good?
- 9:56Speaker 5: Now?
- 9:57Speaker 4: How will pump?
- 9:58Speaker 5: Uh?
- 9:59Speaker 2: Don't let him near know water?
- 10:00Speaker 5: Yet?
- 10:05Speaker 2: What are you doing out here, Marshall? I came out
- 10:08Speaker 2: with Doc, who doc at him.
- 10:13Speaker 5: He did everything he could to save her live show.
- 10:17Speaker 2: He cut on her, didn't me?
- 10:19Speaker 5: And he tried to get the nail. And if that's
- 10:21Speaker 5: what you mean, she'd have died from it if he
- 10:23Speaker 5: hadn't cutting on her. That's what killed her.
- 10:27Speaker 2: Luck, Shell, Your wife was dying and Doc tried to
- 10:30Speaker 2: save her.
- 10:31Speaker 3: Now that's what happened. No matter what you think. I
- 10:33Speaker 3: got no use for doctor. They're all Quakers.
- 10:37Speaker 2: That's what my old man called Quaker, and that's what
- 10:40Speaker 2: killed him. Now.
- 10:41Speaker 3: Well, I kind of figured that's where all this came from.
- 10:44Speaker 3: Chelby Ever thought maybe.
- 10:45Speaker 5: That your old man might have been wrong.
- 10:47Speaker 2: Not about time. He wasn't who told doctor come out here?
- 10:52Speaker 5: Your wife wanted it?
- 10:54Speaker 2: After all the times I've told her to stay away
- 10:56Speaker 2: from doctor. Well, I guess she didn't want to die.
- 10:58Speaker 5: Shell. I guess she wanted a chance to who are
- 11:00Speaker 5: defenseless woman?
- 11:02Speaker 2: He come out here and killed her.
- 11:05Speaker 5: Well, Doc Adams is going to pay for this, Marshall.
- 11:07Speaker 2: I'm telling you right now, you'll lay a hand on
- 11:09Speaker 2: Doc and I'll run you out.
- 11:10Speaker 5: Of the country. Shell.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Maybe he won't be a hand I'll use more.
- 11:14Speaker 3: Try anything like that, and you'll hang for it. I'll
- 11:16Speaker 3: find your wherever you go.
- 11:17Speaker 2: He killed my wife with his bunkling butchery.
- 11:20Speaker 5: He's a murderer.
- 11:21Speaker 2: There's no man of Kansas at the believe that that's
- 11:23Speaker 2: a pretty valuable citizen around here. Not to me, he hain't.
- 11:27Speaker 2: It's an eye for an eye, Marshall. Like it said
- 11:29Speaker 2: in the book, you'll even try it and I'll throw
- 11:31Speaker 2: you in jail. I don't try nothing, then you'll hang
- 11:36Speaker 2: will a high Marshall.
- 11:40Speaker 3: I left Shell Tucker standing by his wife's grave, and
- 11:43Speaker 3: I rode back to Dutch or Narrow lay. Shell was
- 11:47Speaker 3: feasible enough, but there was no telling.
- 11:49Speaker 5: What he might do now. Doc stay that the car.
- 11:53Speaker 3: Will place that night and the next day too. I
- 11:56Speaker 3: thought he'd be safe there, so I didn't worry about
- 11:58Speaker 3: him until the next tea.
- 12:00Speaker 5: And then Kitty and I were having the supper at
- 12:03Speaker 5: the DoD job.
- 12:04Speaker 6: Now, for a town that lives in the cattle trade,
- 12:07Speaker 6: you'd think that they're able to eat decent steak.
- 12:10Speaker 3: You should have had a prairie chicken, Kitty. It didn't
- 12:13Speaker 3: have to walk all the way from Texas.
- 12:14Speaker 4: Oh, that's sake I had got carried.
- 12:16Speaker 6: It was too old a walk of eaten prairie chicken.
- 12:20Speaker 4: Now what the taste like?
- 12:21Speaker 3: Oh, I tell you, kitty, it's a little chicken or
- 12:23Speaker 3: an awful lot of prairie.
- 12:25Speaker 6: I didn't know you better. I'd say you've been drinking.
- 12:28Speaker 5: Eh. And if I know you, your ordered steak next time. Anyway,
- 12:33Speaker 5: I don't give up eating you.
- 12:38Speaker 4: Yeah, I know, I don't remember it.
- 12:42Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 12:42Speaker 4: Sure, you don't know much about women theed matter.
- 12:46Speaker 5: Well I'm learning.
- 12:47Speaker 6: Yeah, at the pace you've set, i'll be in my
- 12:49Speaker 6: grave before you're out of first grade.
- 12:52Speaker 3: You know it took me ten years to learn how
- 12:54Speaker 3: to handle a six gun.
- 12:56Speaker 6: Well, it's the nicest compliment I've had all day.
- 13:00Speaker 5: Drink your coffee. I gotta get out of here, sir.
- 13:02Speaker 4: This is a Dylan.
- 13:05Speaker 5: Doc. Once you get back, just listen him.
- 13:10Speaker 4: How need you call?
- 13:11Speaker 2: Well? Doc? She gave birth to her twelve pound boy this afternoon.
- 13:15Speaker 2: Oh that's fine, that's not what I came to talk about. So, Matt,
- 13:20Speaker 2: somebody tried to shoot me on the way back in
- 13:22Speaker 2: the cargo place.
- 13:22Speaker 5: Huh it wasn't.
- 13:24Speaker 2: I didn't see him since I didn't have.
- 13:26Speaker 5: A gun and I rode straight ahead fast or where.
- 13:28Speaker 2: This happened about a mile the other side the grove.
- 13:31Speaker 3: And I should have come out there and written him
- 13:34Speaker 3: back with you and.
- 13:35Speaker 5: You know something about it.
- 13:37Speaker 2: Yeah, Shell, Tucker, he came back after you and Chester left.
- 13:41Speaker 5: Doc, he made some threats.
- 13:44Speaker 2: I might have known, But I'm not going to be
- 13:46Speaker 2: a target for Shell. Every time I go on a
- 13:47Speaker 2: call in the country, I'm going out and see him. Matt,
- 13:50Speaker 2: we'll have this out face to.
- 13:52Speaker 5: Face, and I don't think he can change his mind. Doctor,
- 13:54Speaker 5: I'll go with you.
- 13:56Speaker 3: If he admits shooting at you this after no, I'll
- 13:58Speaker 3: bring him back to jail.
- 14:00Speaker 5: Maybe I'll bring him back anyway.
- 14:23Speaker 3: Hometowns in America have a lot in common, and yet
- 14:27Speaker 3: they're each one of a kind. Say, for example, Niagara Falls,
- 14:30Speaker 3: New York. In addition to serving as a honeymoon capital
- 14:33Speaker 3: of the World, Niagara Falls finds it necessary to consider
- 14:37Speaker 3: its own one hundred thousand citizens, most of whom are
- 14:40Speaker 3: not just marriage but year round residents.
- 14:44Speaker 2: They work at.
- 14:45Speaker 3: DuPont Chemical or Union Carbide and shop at Beer Brothers.
- 14:49Speaker 2: On a clear day, they can see.
- 14:51Speaker 7: Toronto from the pool at the country Club, and in
- 14:54Speaker 7: the evening they read the gazette and dine at the Treadwaves. Meanwhile,
- 14:58Speaker 7: aside from the newlywed, others take the plumb literally. One
- 15:03Speaker 7: of these was Red Hill, a champion of the Falls,
- 15:06Speaker 7: whose battered barrel is at the Falls Museum. Others of
- 15:10Speaker 7: sheer grip have gone over in everything from life preservers
- 15:14Speaker 7: to rubber balls. Fortunately, most prefer the view from Prospect
- 15:19Speaker 7: Point or the cave of the winds Cap Walk where
- 15:22Speaker 7: you catch the spray in a yellow slicker.
- 15:25Speaker 5: But if your hometown is Niagor Falls, you already know it.
- 15:29Speaker 5: We only wanted to remind you.
- 15:31Speaker 8: If still there somebody in the crowder man that looks
- 15:57Speaker 8: like shell is him, and.
- 16:02Speaker 5: Let's leave him here. They will stand.
- 16:13Speaker 4: They got a horse tied down, and there what's doing?
- 16:15Speaker 5: And he's down Chester, but he's not the tide.
- 16:19Speaker 3: Down here.
- 16:21Speaker 5: And see when you look at that and he broke
- 16:24Speaker 5: his leg and it's too bad.
- 16:29Speaker 3: Well, hell yeah, Doc, I'll go in first in case
- 16:35Speaker 3: Shell gets excited.
- 16:36Speaker 5: Uh, go ahead, out coding, hellout Shell boo.
- 16:47Speaker 3: You bring that croaker out here to kill my horse
- 16:50Speaker 3: for me, and I shall let him in. I uh,
- 16:54Speaker 3: I'm sorry about your horse. Show that bay's the finest
- 16:58Speaker 3: animal room.
- 16:59Speaker 5: What happened just popping him off when it fell, busted
- 17:03Speaker 5: his leg.
- 17:05Speaker 2: Don't man roof going up the house and fetching my rifle.
- 17:11Speaker 4: Okay, bauh.
- 17:15Speaker 5: Terrible thing to lose a horse like this.
- 17:17Speaker 3: Yeah, uh, I'll do the shoot him if you like show,
- 17:23Speaker 3: No thanks, I'll kill him myself.
- 17:25Speaker 5: It's my job. It's a funny thing.
- 17:28Speaker 2: They always shoot a horse if it breaks a leg,
- 17:30Speaker 2: but he wouldn't think of shooting a man when he does.
- 17:33Speaker 3: You croaker has got other ways of getting made of people.
- 17:36Speaker 3: I'll overlook that show, but I'll tell.
- 17:39Speaker 5: You something I don't wanna hear nothing.
- 17:42Speaker 4: You like that horse a horse?
- 17:43Speaker 2: I man, don't shoot him. Don't shoot him. Look show
- 17:47Speaker 2: that horse is done for anyway, but it won't hurt him.
- 17:50Speaker 2: Let me try to fix his leg the same way
- 17:51Speaker 2: I would with a man. It just might work.
- 17:54Speaker 4: You mean put a cast on him?
- 17:55Speaker 5: I do. I never heard of putting my cast on
- 17:58Speaker 5: a horse. You're crazy. It's up to your show.
- 18:01Speaker 3: I wouldn't let you near my wife Vibe in the here,
- 18:04Speaker 3: and I'm not going to let you fool with my horse.
- 18:07Speaker 5: All right?
- 18:07Speaker 3: Shall you shoot your horse? And then I'm taking you
- 18:11Speaker 3: back to Dodge? What You're going to jail for taking
- 18:15Speaker 3: a shot at doc yesterday?
- 18:17Speaker 2: I didn't exactly say I ain't going to know jail.
- 18:21Speaker 3: Yes you are, unless maybe a doc changes his mind
- 18:25Speaker 3: about charging you with attempted murder. And then I couldn't
- 18:29Speaker 3: put you in jail. You know, Show, I might get
- 18:35Speaker 3: so busy working on this horse, i'd plane forget out
- 18:38Speaker 3: of the earth, and I might even save.
- 18:41Speaker 5: The animal the boot, and I'll make up your mind. Show.
- 18:44Speaker 2: I got to get back to Dodge, all right, But
- 18:51Speaker 2: you better make it work, I said, I try. That's
- 18:53Speaker 2: the best I can do if no matter who the
- 18:56Speaker 2: patient is.
- 18:58Speaker 5: Okay, Doc, you try, but you try real hard.
- 19:03Speaker 2: I always do, show real hard.
- 19:10Speaker 3: Chester and Rufe made a fast trip on the Dodge
- 19:13Speaker 3: for a plaster of Paris and.
- 19:15Speaker 5: Some Musslin to go under it. And when they got back,
- 19:18Speaker 5: Doc went to work. An hour later. He had a
- 19:21Speaker 5: heavy cast on a.
- 19:22Speaker 3: Horse's leg, and after giving a Shell some final instructions,
- 19:26Speaker 3: he was finished, and he promised to come back in.
- 19:29Speaker 5: A couple of weeks and put the lighter cast on him,
- 19:31Speaker 5: and we left. Sheld him same unchly. I knew if
- 19:36Speaker 5: anything went wrong with that horse, he'd be after Doc again. However,
- 19:41Speaker 5: six weeks went before anything that.
- 19:45Speaker 3: Doc and I were to his office with a game
- 19:47Speaker 3: of chess that we started a few days earlier.

- 21:55Speaker 3: say there are too many factions. That is, too many
- 21:59Speaker 3: factions are working against each other.
- 22:02Speaker 9: What we need is harmony. I mean within the party.
- 22:05Speaker 9: Harmony is essential. That is well, what elijahs said is true.
- 22:12Speaker 9: There must be order and harmony of purpose. For a
- 22:14Speaker 9: group to successfully reach a goal. Too many factions struggling
- 22:19Speaker 9: against each other within a group can defeat the purpose
- 22:22Speaker 9: of the group without outside help. It's peculiar, but faction

- 22:29Speaker 5: They divided the.
- 22:30Speaker 3: Combatants in the circus into groups or classes called factions,
- 22:34Speaker 3: each class wearing their own spatial colors. These combatants entertained
- 22:39Speaker 3: as strong as pre decor as they strove against each other.
- 22:43Speaker 3: Because of the competitiveness and spirit of these factions, the
- 22:47Speaker 3: term faction was easily applied to political partisans.
