- 0:19I'm Jessica and this is Taba K Rambles where a couple of
- 0:22friends review Korean dramas and we're back for a throwback
- 0:26episode, a throwback K drama. And for this episode, I'm joined
- 0:30by my friend Lola from Lola Pops off about K dramas.
- 0:34How are you, Lola? Good, I'm so good.
- 0:36How are you it's good to see you.
- 0:38I'm super excited. Also slightly nervous, but not
- 0:41really, because every time I come in here, I'm like, I have
- 0:44such a good time just chatting with you.
- 0:46But then I'm also like, wait a minute.
- 0:48There's probably hundreds of people that are going to listen
- 0:50to this. Wait a minute.
- 0:51SNA Focus girl, focus. Please don't think of it that
- 0:55way. Honestly, I think like 5 people
- 0:59listen to me like that's how that's how I get through it.
- 1:01That's how I get through it. Yes, you know 5.
- 1:04People, no one's listening, Yeah.
- 1:06No one's listening because I always, you know, we're like
- 1:09very opinionated. We talk our shit and we have a
- 1:12lot of fun and we keep it light a lot of the time.
- 1:15So if I'm thinking people are getting riled.
- 1:18Up about anything that we think I didn't.
- 1:21Do it. Yeah, I wouldn't.
- 1:22I would sit here and, like, be frozen anyway.
- 1:25Lola, how have you been? What have you been watching
- 1:28lately? Please let me know.
- 1:30So I've been doing well and I have been slow with my K drama
- 1:34watching. I'm going to be honest, like I
- 1:35haven't been as up on it, but most recently I I've been
- 1:41starting or started watching the first night with the Duke with,
- 1:45you know, our K pop duo, which has been great.
- 1:48It's been great. I mean, I'm actually not that
- 1:50great. Why do you?
- 1:52I don't mean to laugh but like when you said K pop duo, I just
- 1:55thought of that old like water park commercial with SNSD and
- 1:592:00 PM. Yes.
- 2:01What was it for beer? Wasn't it for like Cass?
- 2:03Was that was it for like the Cass beer?
- 2:06It was a water park. Do you remember?
- 2:08It was the entire like thing. But I thought it was.
- 2:10It was for the water park. I remember the one about the
- 2:12beer I thought it was. I thought they were together in
- 2:15this beer commercial, too. Maybe that was just 2:00 PM.
- 2:17It's only been 20 years. 20 years, right?
- 2:21But I I think I probably know what you're saying.
- 2:23Yeah, pitching. Now I have to send you.
- 2:26The link please put this. I'll put it somewhere like this
- 2:30commercial. It's freaking wild.
- 2:33There's love lines in it. They're honestly 2:00 PM.
- 2:35Is applying sunscreen to like SNC?
- 2:39Yes, wait a minute. Oh my gosh, I think I know
- 2:41exactly what was that for, though.
- 2:43It was a water. Park.
- 2:43It was a water. Park.
- 2:44That's what it was. I remember that.
- 2:48Oh, but OK, yeah. So now we're circling back.
- 2:52And I'm sorry that was. Text, Text and this drama.
- 2:56Yeah. What is it?
- 2:57So young. Are you liking it?
- 3:01Not it's not the best, I'm going to be honest, but it's it's easy
- 3:05to watch. So I'm still checking out.
- 3:07But as far as my favorite that I'm watching right now, it
- 3:09definitely would have to be Our Unwritten Soul.
- 3:13I just finished I. Think yes, it just finished like
- 3:15this weekend, but I haven't watched the final two episodes.
- 3:17So yeah, I haven't gotten to it yet, but we've been loving that.
- 3:22I have been loving that one. Love to hear it.
- 3:24I will say Our Unwritten Soul is The One Show out of the ones
- 3:28that you've mentioned that I have on my finished 2025 list,
- 3:31my infamous finish the year list.
- 3:34I know that I always make. Hopefully I get to it.
- 3:37I always basically binge watch everything that I missed in the
- 3:40year that interests me. Yeah, in the last quarter of the
- 3:44year. Which is a good idea because
- 3:47sometimes you got to, you got to let all of it kind of marinate,
- 3:50let it do run its course, see what everybody else is talking
- 3:53about. And then you're like, you know
- 3:54what? OK, these are the ones I'm going
- 3:56to actually go back and watch. I think that's a great idea.
- 3:58I hate being a Guinea pig. That's right, I don't like being
- 4:03a Guinea pig anymore. I do like being a Guinea pig
- 4:05though, I you. You give a lot of.
- 4:07Things a shot. I do, and I admire you for it.
- 4:11I like, I don't. I I like, like I say, I go
- 4:15through a little bit of the pain and the torture.
- 4:17I mean, I've done less this year than I've ever have in the past.
- 4:20But like I do get a kick out of it sometimes when I'm like,
- 4:23okay, no ones watching this. So let me watch it like I will
- 4:26do that. I will do.
- 4:28That. You're more well-rounded.
- 4:32No, I'm a better person for it. OK.
- 4:35We are better people for having watched I'm Sorry I Love You
- 4:41from 2004. That is the drama we are going
- 4:46to be covering today. It is a throwback drama, Lola.
- 4:50You have an entire series. You haven't done it in a while,
- 4:53but you have the throwback drama series.
- 4:55Yes, throwing it back with Lola, that is my one of my I really
- 4:59honed on last year last season on my podcast, but I haven't
- 5:03really done as many this this season.
- 5:05It's hopefully for the the second-half of the year we might
- 5:08have a lot more coming up. So this was a nice jump start I
- 5:10think for me to get back. Back into the groove, yeah.
- 5:13Get back into the groove, throwing it back to these old
- 5:15ones. And when you said this one, you
- 5:17actually messaged me about this. I was like, how dare Steve, How
- 5:21dare you bring me along for this again?
- 5:24I can't believe you've done that.
- 5:25Literally. I was like, who's going to do
- 5:28this? Who's who?
- 5:29Would be the first, yeah. Who would possibly.
- 5:31And you thought of me immediately.
- 5:33I'm sure I was going to. Do you knew it?
- 5:36You knew I would. You knew I would.
- 5:38You were right. I would.
- 5:39I would put myself back through this for you.
- 5:40I would. I was like, I think Lola is
- 5:43down. She's she's brave.
- 5:46She's a brave soldier, and she would be willing to revisit
- 5:49this. And I'm pretty sure that you had
- 5:51watched it before. I was telling you before.
- 5:53It'd been about 10 years since I had seen it the first time.
- 5:56And so, so I had largely forgotten a lot of stuff, like a
- 6:00lot of the nitty gritty and, and when I was watching, I was like
- 6:05in deep in deep. I was like, Oh my God.
- 6:09So there's a lot, a lot that we got to cover.
- 6:11On this show? Oh yes.
- 6:13Oh, absolutely. Absolutely.

- 7:01OK, so we are going to do non spoiler and spoiler section for
- 7:06The Cave drama. I'm sorry I love you.
- 7:08I'll start us off with the MDL synopsis which reads TA Mujiyuk
- 7:13was adopted by an Australian family but was abused and left
- 7:16homeless at an early age. One day, he comes across some
- 7:20Lunte, the coordinator for Tegyun, a famous singer in Korea
- 7:24whom she is secretly in love with.
- 7:26Her faithful encounter with Mujiyuk ends up affecting not
- 7:29only her life but that of her precious Yoon as well.
- 7:33OK, because of an accident the way these are like written
- 7:37sometimes. I the best, they're the best.
- 7:40Get mad at this. Because of an accident involving
- 7:44his ex-girlfriend, Mujio is left with three months to live.
- 7:48This leads to him heading back to Korea in search of his
- 7:50biological mother. The discoveries he makes change
- 7:53his heart from longing to revenge.
- 7:56Even with all this darkness surrounding him, he finds an
- 7:59unexpected source of happiness with someone he did not expect
- 8:03to love. I'll give you 2 guesses.
- 8:06Who it is OK. This drama aired from November
- 8:11to December 2004. This is 21 years old, OK.
- 8:18And I didn't say this when you were saying it's been about two
- 8:21years for you. I realize it's been closer to
- 8:23about 15, almost 20 years for me.
- 8:27And I was like, wait a minute, it hasn't been two years.
- 8:29I think I forget what year I've been.
- 8:32Literally the same because I'll be like, I watched that like the
- 8:35other day and the other day. No, you did two weeks ago or 15
- 8:39years ago. Or 15 years ago.
- 8:41I feel that way all the time. I this one definitely.
- 8:43I felt the distance though with this one.
- 8:45I totally felt that it had been almost 20 years since I've seen
- 8:48this one. Yeah, absolutely.
- 8:49I felt the distance as well. I definitely needed the rewatch
- 8:52on this one. I'll take us back to EU 2004.
- 8:56I love to do these little time and place for these throwback
- 9:01episodes. So the single released by usher
- 9:04featuring Lil John and Ludacris was released.
- 9:08Janet Jacksons wardrobe malfunction at the Super Bowl
- 9:11hashtime show. That was.
- 9:15What? OK, OK.
- 9:16Mark Zuckerberg launched Facebook from his Harvard dorm,
- 9:21began. In two, 204 was a year man.
- 9:25At the 76th Academy Awards, the Lord of the Rings Return of the
- 9:28King swept the Oscars. Oh cool.
- 9:31And these are the movies that were released in 2004.
- 9:34Obviously, this list is not exhaustive.
- 9:36Mean Girls 13 going on 30 The best.
- 9:39The Notebook, The best 51st dates, I love A Cinderella
- 9:43Story, White Chicks, Kill Bill Volume 2 of The Incredibles, and
- 9:49Sam Raimi's Spider Man 2, which is arguably the best one of that
- 9:54trilogy. So there you have it.
- 9:57That's a snapshot of 2004. This show is 16 episodes long.
- 10:03It's directed by EE Hyung Min. This director is iconic.
- 10:08OK? He started out with Winter
- 10:11Sonata from 2002. I see you like already making
- 10:17faces already like Oh my God you did you do a winter Sonata
- 10:21episode or? Was that somebody else?
- 10:23So what I I think it was Nas did that yes.
- 10:26I want to say yeah, I went to Winter Sonata, but I did do
- 10:30Autumn in my heart with Nas that same that's right same year with
- 10:33her. That was a rewatch.
- 10:35Autumn in my heart was a was a time but.
- 10:37Yeah, The Four Seasons. The Four Seasons.
- 10:39The Four Seasons shows we covered Autumn in My Heart a
- 10:42couple of years ago, I think I think it was a couple of years
- 10:45ago, but yeah, that you can scroll back on your podcast feed
- 10:47and listen to that one. But that's part of that series.
- 10:50It's an unofficial like title for that series of shows that
- 10:54came out in the early aughts. This director's done Bad Guy,
- 10:57Orange Mumlod, My Horrible Boss, Strong Girl, Bong Soon from
- 11:022017, which there is an episode on as well, Chocolate From Now
- 11:07On, Showtime, and most recently, Miss Night and Day.
- 11:11So that's this director. It was written by EE Kyungi.
- 11:15She has written a bunch of stuff, but she is more of like
- 11:19the old guard, kind of a screenwriter from yesteryear.
- 11:23She's done shows like a Love to Kill from O56, Love Stories,
- 11:28Sangu, Let's Go to School, Pure Heart.
- 11:30But the ones that I like to point out are The Innocent Man
- 11:34from 2012 and you like. Yes, Oh my God, that was that
- 11:40was a time. That was a time.
- 11:42That was a time. That's Song Junkie and Oh my
- 11:46God, what's her name? I'm blanking too.
- 11:50I'm. Blanking too.
- 11:51But anyway, that's a really good show.
- 11:53Also, like super dramatic. So dramatic.
- 11:57Oh, the so dramatic. Yeah, so dramatic,
- 12:00uncontrollably fond, she wrote from 2016.
- 12:05I feel like that's a close cousin.
- 12:07I'm sorry, I love you. Yeah, I can totally see that.
- 12:10Totally. She also wrote chocolate, so her
- 12:13and the director got together again and teamed up because she
- 12:17wrote chocolate and he directed chocolate.
- 12:20So this show stars the icon that is Ho Chi sub.
- 12:25He plays Cham Yok. He's been in about 12 movies
- 12:29including rough Cut from O8 which really did a lot for his
- 12:32career. So if he's revenge, always.
- 12:35Always. Do you love it?
- 12:36Always. Pay attention to the feed y'all,
- 12:39because you might see always coming up soon.
- 12:44A company Man, Battleship Island, a couple of Alien Noid
- 12:47movies most recently, and then he's done 22 TV shows.
- 12:52The early aughts were when he was really cooking, like
- 12:55Memories of Bali, which you have an episode on.
- 12:59Oh yes? Oh girl, I don't know how you
- 13:01got through that one. To be honest, that rewatch, it
- 13:05was good. It was good.
- 13:06I'm not going to lie, I had AI, had a blast.
- 13:09You had a time and I. Know.
- 13:11I don't know how, I don't know. How you did that, I don't know
- 13:14how I'll tell the quick story of my memories of Bali experience
- 13:18which just makes 2 sentences. Miguel, who was most recently on
- 13:23the move to have. An episode said.
- 13:25Hey, you got to watch something happen in Bali, which is the
- 13:28alternate title for Memories of Bali.
- 13:31He's like, it's so good, you're going to love it.
- 13:32I said OK, bet I watch it and I my flabbers were gassed it like
- 13:38I was. So I was completely in shock.
- 13:43And shock and awe. Speechless.
- 13:46What is this? What is this?
- 13:49What? Is it?
- 13:51Yes, so I went back to him and I was like you're not allowed to
- 13:54give me K drama recommendations. Don't do it.
- 13:56Ever get. Ever get?
- 13:57Did not warn me at all. You need a warning.
- 14:01You need a warning that needs to come with.
- 14:03Many. You got to have a warning.
- 14:04You got to have a warning. Yeah, I agree.
- 14:06I agree. So that's that one.
- 14:08I don't even want to call it tragic.
- 14:10It's it's. Downright scary.
- 14:13It's sad. It's sad.
- 14:15Yeah. The stuff they put, the stuff
- 14:17that they put those characters through back in the early 2000s,
- 14:20No, is mind blowing. Yeah.
- 14:22I mean this drama is one of the other examples.
- 14:24Of that, I'm shocked that Memories of Bali came out in 04
- 14:28the same year. I'm sorry.
- 14:30I love you. He was in the.
- 14:31He was in. What was he on He?
- 14:32Was in the mood. He's like I am ready for it.
- 14:34He's like, I don't I think he that was actually smart.
- 14:37He probably was like, I'm going to just stay in this kind of
- 14:39like detached, stressed, you know, sad, depressed, you know,
- 14:44mood all year long and just take all the roles that are going to
- 14:47need that and just going to channel it all into these roles
- 14:49because. That I am the Melodrama king.
- 14:51I am. You cannot beat.
- 14:53Yes, Yes. You cannot see me.
- 14:56You cannot see me. I love that.
- 14:59This is my throne anyway, so memories of volley and I'm sorry
- 15:02I love you in the same year Cain and Abel from online one of my I
- 15:09love Cain and Abel. Cain and Abel.
- 15:11I mean just originally a great Bible story.
- 15:14Oh, absolutely. Absolutely.
- 15:17And then when you did that, when they did that in 2009, I was
- 15:19like, get out of here, get out of here, out of here.
- 15:23It's so good, so good. Unassailable.
- 15:26Then he did Master's Son in 2013, which is a Hong Sisters
- 15:30drama. One of the only ones that I
- 15:32would dare to recommend. I like it.
- 15:35I liked it. I did like it.
- 15:37I did. Oh my Venus in 2015, My
- 15:40secretarias 2018 Doctor, lawyer, mercy for none.
- 15:43Most recently in 2025, which is I think a lot of people are
- 15:47discovering. Soji sub.
- 15:49For the first time, mercy for none.
- 15:52That's when they discover him, because mercy for none.
- 15:57You got thoughts? You got thoughts?
- 15:59Yeah, I had a little bit of thought.
- 16:00I yeah, my latest episode, my latest rambles in musings.
- 16:03I kind of went in on my thoughts.
- 16:05So and verse 49, I was disappointed.
- 16:07I was disappointed. What I'm hearing, OK, this is
- 16:10like unofficial and it's a little tangent, but what I'm
- 16:13hearing is that it doesn't have a lot of pathos.
- 16:15It has nothing, yeah. It's empty.
- 16:18Yeah. It's so lifeless.
- 16:20It's like, really, guys? I know all this action with
- 16:23nothing else to support. It and like compared to some of
- 16:27the dramas that he's mentioned. And that he's in, he can give
- 16:30you, He can give it to you if you're not allowing him to give.
- 16:33It to you though. Yeah, you're like wasted.
- 16:37Wasted for this town. I mean, the cast was stand out.
- 16:40Everybody in there. I was like gold, gold, gold,
- 16:43gold all around. But they didn't use any of them.
- 16:46Didn't use any. Of them OK OK so his code sorry
- 16:51no it's fine we'll be here all day This is what's fun but
- 16:53anyway his Co star is in SU zhong she plays or Lim SU zhong
- 16:59she plays song in che and she's been in about 18 movies she's
- 17:03really more of a movie star including finding Mr. destiny
- 17:07from 2018 I'm a Cyborg but that's OK from O6 with rain rain
- 17:14she's been in a tale of two sisters from 2003 which is.
- 17:22Horror classic. A horror classic.
- 17:24Exactly. And then the TV shows that she's
- 17:27been in Melancholia from 2021. Search www.which there's an
- 17:31entire episode review you can scroll back on to listen to.
- 17:35And of course, Chicago typewriter from 2017.
- 17:38So that's just three of the seven.
- 17:41And then we're reviewing 1/4. So you can see that she's not
- 17:45really been not much. Yeah, not really AK drama lady,
- 17:48but she is well known. We have some supporting cast.
- 17:52I'll just mention one which is Jung Kimbo plays Chei Yun and
- 17:58he's been in a ton of things. He's a well known face.
- 18:01And Speaking of SNSD, he's been dating.
- 18:04What's her face for like? Too young.
- 18:05I don't know how too young for, I mean, maybe 20 years, maybe 20
- 18:09years. Yeah.
- 18:10I mean, yeah, they're not married.
- 18:12We know that. But yeah, they've been together
- 18:14for a long time. Exactly.
- 18:17He's been in most recently Crash Course and Romance in 2023,
- 18:21Hospital Playlist seasons one and two, Prison Playbook, which
- 18:25there's an episode on. Oh, there's also a Hospital
- 18:28Playlist episode for season 1 of Hospital Playlist if you want to
- 18:32listen to that. Missing 9 from 2017.
- 18:35I bring it up because that's like one of the worst K dramas
- 18:37that I've seen. Oh.
- 18:38God. Just don't like, I don't like
- 18:41missing 9. I would love to hear somebody
- 18:43out there watch missing 9 and we're like I I loved it.
- 18:47Beating again from 2015, undergoes a heart transplant
- 18:51surgery and his personality changes freaking lot.
- 18:55One of my faves when I tell you yes Oh my gosh, I love that.
- 19:00I don't know in a way I try not I the.
- 19:02Summer scent, it's like paid off in dividends.
- 19:05Yes, because all of these other dramas just keep copying.
- 19:08Keep using it, but they did a great job.
- 19:10They did a great. Job with that's a cute head, a
- 19:12lighter take much lighter, take much lighter and then heartless
- 19:15City from 2013. Come on now of all.
- 19:22Time man, I'm one of my absolute favorite action Love it.
- 19:27So that's I'm not going to say anybody else from the cast.
- 19:30It's not a huge cast, but I just want to get to the meat of this.
- 19:35Lola, what do you think? I'm sorry, I love you.
- 19:38How did this rewatch hit you? I'm going to be honest, I I
- 19:44wasn't as an older person, I was like as I've gotten older and I
- 19:50started re watching some of these older K dramas, I just I
- 19:53pick up on so many other things these times these days and I had
- 19:57that moment for sure watching this.
- 19:58I was like the male our male leads were they were they were
- 20:04interesting. They.
- 20:05Covered my mouth, I know. Like.
- 20:08I don't know. I mean, I do know I wrote
- 20:10explicitly of like my thoughts on them, but I'm just like, just
- 20:13saying it off the front. I was very not.
- 20:16I was not, I want to say annoyed.
- 20:17Yeah, I was annoyed. I was annoyed with our male
- 20:19leads, so much so that it made it hard to like really root for
- 20:23them or kind of support them or feel for them, even though
- 20:27they're going through a lot. But it's just like, you too.
- 20:32You too. I know it's tough.
- 20:36Did you have any other thoughts? No, no, that's.
- 20:38No, that's it. And I have, I mean, other
- 20:40thoughts in that I didn't enjoy it as much as I might have in
- 20:44the past. I will say that I will just kind
- 20:46of lead with that. I didn't enjoy it as much as I
- 20:49did maybe have done in the past. I completely agree.
- 20:52I don't ever remember. Absolutely.
- 20:55Loving, loving. Exactly.
- 20:56OK. Absolutely.
- 20:58I remember watching it and being like, well, that was something,
- 21:00you know what I'm saying? Like.
- 21:01That. Was an experience, but I and I
- 21:03never I didn't hate it. I just kind of took it in stride
- 21:07and moved forward with my life with the knowledge, armed with
- 21:10the knowledge of 2000 fours. I'm sorry.
- 21:12I love you exactly. You know, it's kind of
- 21:15foundational. It's as AK drama.
- 21:18Yep, and super iconic. On the rewatch, I thought, oh,
- 21:22I'm gonna love this show. And I will say the first eight
- 21:25episodes I breezed through. It was super easy to watch for
- 21:28me the last half of the show. It was.
- 21:32Rough it. Was rough.
- 21:33It was very rough. Very rough.
- 21:35Yep. Yeah, there was something about
- 21:38the wallowing nature of the show and the fact that there is so
- 21:46much, and this is very, I guess Korean of it.
- 21:49We, I guess we don't get so much of this anymore of characters
- 21:53just going to see another character with so much urgency
- 21:58and so much to say. And then they get to their
- 22:00destination. They finally see this person in
- 22:02their content to just like look at each.
- 22:04Other don't say anything. They don't say anything.
- 22:07Yeah. They just kind of.
- 22:10They don't vent their emotions. They don't really communicate.
- 22:13It's all left unsaid. And then they leave after all
- 22:16this effort to get to them. And over and over again.
- 22:20Rinse and repeat. Yep, the whole way through.
- 22:23The whole way through the whole. Way through and it's just, Oh my
- 22:26God, it was so painful. It was.
- 22:28Painful. I completely I completely agree
- 22:30with that and I, I think that from the very beginning, I know
- 22:33you said like your first eight episodes, you breathe through.
- 22:35I think I had a hard time from episode 1.
- 22:38I'm good for the job. And it was those our our leads 2
- 22:44Those two male leads for me were just big babies.
- 22:47And I'm sorry to. Say it like.
- 22:49That but the whole theme, like the crux of this story.
- 22:52And I'm like, again, hindsight's 2020, like me watching this now,
- 22:56as you know, I was, I'm so much older than I was when I watched
- 22:59this the first time. Me too, you know.
- 23:01Like so. Much older.
- 23:02So I'm just like, they were the way that they kind of describe
- 23:06these two male leads. They were nothing but these baby
- 23:09birds that were constantly looking for this mothering and
- 23:13it was so annoying to be honest, because it was like woe is me.
- 23:17Where is my mommy? There was something very
- 23:20childish and and boyish to them and immature about them to the
- 23:24point where it was like the women were taking the brunt of
- 23:26it, right? Like they had to be.
- 23:28They had to suffer through. They had to suffer through.
- 23:30They were the ones, you know, pulling themselves up by their
- 23:33boot traps and and pushing through while these two got to
- 23:36be, you know, woe is me, I'm the victim.
- 23:40Look at look at me, look at me. And it was like, I'm annoyed
- 23:44like from I. Was annoyed to be.
- 23:48Honest, I just I have this confused face on you guys can't
- 23:50see it, but I'm just wondering to what end like you know, to
- 23:55what? End exactly that's.
- 23:57It and that is the crux of a lot of these older K dramas that are
- 24:01melodramas I. Want to let's say Yeah, let's
- 24:03say mellow. Is that there is so much pain
- 24:07that feels like they're just flopping on the ground.
- 24:13It is an extended tantrum. They're less what?
- 24:17They're wailing, they're kicking their feet, they're yelling at
- 24:20the sky. They're shaking the angry fist
- 24:22towards the sky. Yes, like, I mean, even like in
- 24:24this one there's and we'll talk about it like the prayers, you
- 24:28know, You know what I mean. The prayers.
- 24:31You're the most blasphemous things I've ever seen.
- 24:34Yeah. It's like, how dare like looking
- 24:36up and being like, you know what, God, if you do this for
- 24:39me, I will do this. You know it was, I mean that.
- 24:43Guy trying to make deals with God.
- 24:44Making. Deals with God, yeah, that's how
- 24:46you know, and it's like they're kicking.
- 24:47You're throwing a tantrum. Yeah, and you're throwing a
- 24:49tantrum. Yeah, that's exactly what I I
- 24:52felt was throughout. I felt this was an incredibly
- 24:55unfair, fair portrayal of motherhood.
- 24:59It was thank you. This was like the way that they
- 25:02presented them as these, like that.
- 25:05Condemning of the mother. I hate it and hate it.
- 25:10There's so much nuance there that I think the show ignores.
- 25:15Hmm. Or tries to address too late
- 25:18maybe? Yeah, they missed it.
- 25:20Yeah, Played like you could have.
- 25:21You could have done it and. Right.
- 25:22Do it right. Yeah.
- 25:23And here's that positive that I think the show is of it of a
- 25:28time of an era. And there is not a lot of
- 25:31therapizing. I love that.
- 25:33What's happening? Yeah, yeah.
- 25:36You know what I'm saying? No one's like you had a
- 25:38traumatic experience. So This is why you're doing
- 25:41this, and This is why you should feel this way.
- 25:43Why are you lashing out? Yes.
- 25:46You know, none of this therapy language.
- 25:49None of it. None of it.
- 25:50You're depressed. No.
- 25:52You just no. No.
- 25:53You just watch them struggle. You're.
- 25:56Just watching them go through. Yeah, one of the hideous things
- 26:01that could possibly happen to people, that could possibly
- 26:03happen to somebody, and they are making the wrong choice after
- 26:08the wrong choice, after the wrong choice.
- 26:11No one. There's no person that's
- 26:13speaking common sense or life into these people at all.
- 26:18There's no voice of reason at all in the show.
- 26:21That is very. And that is of a.
- 26:24Time of that, Time of that. Time.
- 26:27If this was done today, you would have.
- 26:29Somebody, some character in. There one character who's like.
- 26:33The voice of reason. Voice of reason, who's basically
- 26:36the audience proxy, who's like, why are you doing this?
- 26:39Why are you acting this way? Get up.
- 26:43You know. Get up.
- 26:44Yes. There is none of that in the
- 26:46show. Everybody sucks.
- 26:48Everybody does, everybody sucks. And I have to say, I've
- 26:51mentioned this with, I think what happened in Bali when I
- 26:53went back to that drama. I like that because it does put
- 26:57more weight on the audience and I can appreciate that.
- 27:01As in, you're not telling me, you're showing me exactly.
- 27:04I have to do the work as the audience figuring out what is
- 27:08going on. Why are these characters doing
- 27:10the things that they're doing, looking at things that the
- 27:12character do and the story and be like, oh, they're doing this
- 27:15because of this, I get to do that.
- 27:17No character outside character is telling me This is why
- 27:20they're doing this right. I like it.
- 27:21So that is one of the things I can.
- 27:23There's not a lot of hand holding, not 0, all for the
- 27:28audience, you're just thrown in. Get it.
- 27:30Yeah, get ready. Get ready.
- 27:32Get ready. And if you don't like it, too
- 27:35damn ass. Yeah, get out.
- 27:37Yep, Yep. And that is a lot of these older
- 27:40K dramas, especially the melodramas.
- 27:44I would say that was their MO. I see.
- 27:46It's just pain after pain. These people are just here to
- 27:48hurt. Just hurt.
- 27:50Just hurt. That's all they're here for.
- 27:53And if there's any positive to it is that they found some
- 27:56sliver of happiness and hope, which is what the MDL synopsis
- 28:01is getting at, is that, you know, the male lead and the
- 28:03female lead do, I guess, fall in love.
- 28:07Did they fall in love? I don't know.
- 28:10They said I love you. They said I.
- 28:11Love you a lot. A lot.
- 28:13In the very last five minutes of this.
- 28:17But yeah, they did, I guess. It's surprising and I'm sure
- 28:20that if someone who started watching K dramas in the last
- 28:23five years, you know, during the pandemic basically were to watch
- 28:26this show. Yes.
- 28:28I would love to hear their thoughts.
- 28:30I know. Because this is going to hit
- 28:32themselves. Yes.
- 28:33Oh, totally, totally. It's.
- 28:35Going to hit them so sideways. I was looking at some of the
- 28:40movies that came out during this time in Korea.
- 28:44A moment to remember. A moment to remember Yes, Yes
- 28:48came out at the same time. Came out this this year I think.
- 28:50Same. Year, OK.
- 28:51OK. 3 Iron Have you seen that movie?
- 28:543. Iron 3 Iron.
- 28:56Oh my gosh. I have a story to say, not a
- 28:59story, but like one of my memories of going through, going
- 29:02into Blockbuster. I don't know, people remember
- 29:05Blockbuster. That's telling my age a little
- 29:07bit, like seeing that cover and being like, yes, I want to watch
- 29:12this. Mind you, I was young.
- 29:13I was like, I should not have been watching 3 Iron.
- 29:16But yes, Oh, I remember 3 Iron. That was the time.
- 29:20That came out this year, same year.
- 29:24So if you look at some of the media that was in the early
- 29:28aughts, the coming out of Korea, it makes a lot of sense why the
- 29:32K dramas were so fucked. They were messed up because
- 29:35everybody was fun. Everybody was.
- 29:38It was bad. It was rough.
- 29:40It was a hard time. Yeah, absolutely. 3 iron.
- 29:43I can't believe you. I can't believe three.
- 29:45I haven't thought about 3 iron in so long.
- 29:48Oh, that's wild. My little Bride, do you remember
- 29:51that movie? Yes, the girlies would freak if
- 29:55they watch that movie. That's also 2004.
- 29:59This was a year. This was a year, Lola.
- 30:03I didn't even connect all of that.
- 30:05I didn't even think to think about what movies came out in
- 30:07Korea during that time. Yeah, those man.
- 30:12I mean, I'm still stuck on 3 iron though.
- 30:14Like 3 iron. Is a That's a film.
- 30:17That's not a movie. That's a film.
- 30:18It's. A film.
- 30:18It is a film. I think that's a great way of
- 30:20following it. It's a film for sure, guys.
- 30:24I can't believe it's only an hour and a half too.
- 30:25It's an hour and 28 minutes long.
- 30:27I don't know. How some of those scenes, some
- 30:29of the some of those scenes felt like an hour and a half by
- 30:33themselves. So I can't believe the movie was
- 30:35only an hour and a half. I know that's crazy.
- 30:37OK, but I, I just, I say all this because there was something
- 30:43in the water. In 2004.
- 30:45In 2004, in the early aughts in this era, and you know, we've
- 30:49covered some of the other shows like we mentioned Winter Sonata,
- 30:52we mentioned Autumn. In my heart, I think I did.
- 30:57I guested on NASA spoon Diaries we covered.
- 31:00Somerset. Somerset.
- 31:01Oh, I I did. Somerset too, I did.
- 31:04Somerset. So and then you covered
- 31:06Somerset? I did on your podcast.
- 31:08I. Did so last year or the year
- 31:10before, I can't remember. A lot of us creators were going
- 31:13back and dipping into that early odds well and doing a couple
- 31:16things here and there, reviewing things and when you put it all.
- 31:19Together. If you put it all together, it
- 31:22connects. All of it connects.
- 31:24It all of it connects OK. I think Korea, the populace was
- 31:30going through it. They needed these melodramas.
- 31:33They did well, I actually think well, am I what happens in Bali
- 31:36episode? I did talk about extensively
- 31:39that back in that time, like there, there was this kind of
- 31:42push. They used to say where like I
- 31:45want to say like nihilism almost where people were feeling like
- 31:48there was just not the the way that the world was going.
- 31:51There was not much to look forward to in the world.
- 31:54And so the use of melodrama during that time was strategic.
- 31:58It was this way for people to experience these outside
- 32:02horrible situations so they cannot look at their own inside
- 32:06horrible. Situations.
- 32:07Exactly. And that was a big push during
- 32:09that early. 2000. I I did see that in a couple of
- 32:13articles when I was reading about what happened in Bali.
- 32:16Because what happened did you think?
- 32:18This did. You think this is bad Let's just
- 32:20I mean I don't know, but what happened to volley bad?
- 32:22I don't know that one sent shivers down my spine rewatching
- 32:27it. I'm going to be honest, it was a
- 32:28totally different experience watching that one again and then
- 32:31watching this one. I'm sorry, I love you.
- 32:32I don't know what it was. I think it was the the babies in
- 32:36this one. It's the babies.
- 32:37Yes, it's the babies. I'll, I'll just say for people
- 32:40that don't know what nihilism is, let's say this is the AI
- 32:43overview of Google. It says a philosophical position
- 32:46that argues that life is without inherent meaning, purpose or
- 32:49value. This is a really depressing view
- 32:53of life. And I think that people who have
- 32:57this ish, you know, nihilistic viewpoint of life tend to find a
- 33:02lot of meaning in these stories. They tend to enjoy painful
- 33:07stories because it makes them feel.
- 33:09Better it makes them feel about their.
- 33:11Painful. Life.
- 33:12Exactly. They're all painful situations.
- 33:13Because it can't be as bad as this.
- 33:15This exactly. And also that ties into in this
- 33:19drama, how there's like this, I think I want to say not counter,
- 33:23but like almost a counter to like them bringing up God a lot
- 33:26and and the praying and things like that.
- 33:28For them to position that in a story where it's just like all
- 33:31bad, there's no good there. Everything's bad, everyone's
- 33:34going through it. But then to also have them try
- 33:38to hold on to something outside of them.
- 33:43Yeah, a little bit of faith. I thought that was interesting
- 33:45that they also were adding that in there as well.
- 33:48But it is AF to me, like a counter to this thought, like
- 33:51there is no hope. What did you think of acting?
- 33:55I actually thought the acting was pretty good.
- 33:58I mean, I was kind of, I was quite impressed as always with
- 34:02what's Our mom? E Hey, Young.
- 34:05E Hey Young. I absolutely adore her and I
- 34:07love her in melodrama. That's one of my favorite ways
- 34:09to watch her, so I really enjoyed her in this.
- 34:13She's the evil mom in Boys Over Flowers.
- 34:16Yes, yes. I always enjoy her.
- 34:18I just always enjoy her. So I think that was really good.
- 34:22I'm Sue Jung. I enjoy her as well.
- 34:24But for some reason, again, I think with this character, it
- 34:28was, I mean, she, she did good. She, I mean, she did good.
- 34:31It was fine. But I wasn't that impressed with
- 34:33the character. So it felt a little flat at
- 34:35times for me, which I don't agree completely blamed with her
- 34:38and her acting, but more like the character itself.
- 34:42Do you? So of course.
- 34:44What's, what are we, what are we going to say?
- 34:46He did bad? Yeah.
- 34:47Absolutely not. Absolutely.
- 34:49I was blown away. I mean, there were first, first
- 34:51the end, then it got really rough for him.
- 34:53I was just like, oh, I was in pain watching him.
- 34:56I was in actual pain. I get empathy pains, and I was
- 34:59literally like, I'm in pain watching you.
- 35:01I have to Fast forward some of those moments because it was
- 35:03that rough for me watching him. So I mean, great acting.
- 35:06Yeah, but it was a little hard. It was a little hard watching.
- 35:08So I would say acting was great. Oh, you know who really I mean.
- 35:13I'm going to say Junk Ho. Absolutely.
- 35:15One of my absolute favorite actors of all time.
- 35:18I'm Kunk Kunky. I'm sorry, not Jung Ho.
- 35:20I absolutely loved him in this despite his character still
- 35:25being one that I did not like Baby but towards the end loved
- 35:31his performance. I was really moved by his
- 35:33performance, especially that final conversation he has with
- 35:37Milk at the end in the in the dark of that, you know, little
- 35:40room. I loved his performance there.
- 35:43I was like I was crying, you know, like so performances were
- 35:46great that I had to say when I was re watching this, I was
- 35:48like, you can't take you can't even you can't take that from
- 35:52older cave dramas ever. The performance will always be
- 35:55there. OK, They were killing it 100.
- 35:58Percent, 100%. Let's talk about the fashion and
- 36:01the incessant singing from Fei Yun, because the singing is
- 36:05what's not good. Sunk it, sunk the battleship.
- 36:07Because I hate singing in K drama.
- 36:10Singing in media. But also bad singing.
- 36:14And then and on top of it, bad. Singing in one of my first notes
- 36:19in episode 1, I said AK pop singer or I was like a singer
- 36:23idol singer that Can't Sing. Question mark.
- 36:25Question mark. This is a lot of suspension of
- 36:30disbelief here. A lot.
- 36:32If you're telling me he is not only a bad singer, a nepple
- 36:35baby. Or he's a nepple.
- 36:36Baby, yes, but also he sucks. He can't, he Can't Sing.
- 36:41He's a bad singer, but he's the number one singer in Korea.
- 36:44I was like #1 get out, get out. So bad.
- 36:48It's so bad. Every time he played the piano
- 36:50and sang and like everything was acapella, I was like, oh.
- 36:52My God, you were like, no, thank you.
- 36:54You were like horrible thanks. No, but no thanks.
- 36:56No thanks. No thanks, I'm good.
- 36:59You guys could I want to return this?
- 37:01Can I can? I get a return.
- 37:03Can I get a refund please so. That was bothersome, The fashion
- 37:10I I wasn't mad about the fashion, I was mad about one
- 37:13item. Wait, what 1?
- 37:14Item the hat. The hat.
- 37:17The hat. Throw it in a volcano.
- 37:19Throw it in a volcano. I hate it.
- 37:22It was so funny because that's one of the things I remember
- 37:24most about this show. It was like, because I was like,
- 37:27that's the thing that's meme the most like the the dramatic pull
- 37:30down that he would do in the beginning with that hat.
- 37:32Like he would cover his face when he was he was getting
- 37:34emotional and he would just like take the hat and cover the side
- 37:38of his face. So you could see how that was
- 37:40the I was like, this is what you they still make fun of that.
- 37:43See, I'm literally. Crying.
- 37:45I'm literally crying. So funny, isn't it?
- 37:47It was. Hysterical.
- 37:48It's hysterical. So yeah, the hat, get it out of
- 37:50here. But the fashion actually really
- 37:52like, I actually really like the Unche.
- 37:54Like her style, her fashion. I loved it.
- 37:57I'm like her Uggs or her ratty Uggs.
- 38:00I was like, I'm loving the ratty Uggs actually.
- 38:02Yeah, there was something about I I wasn't mad at the fashion.
- 38:06I was mad at the one newsboy cabbie hat that so bad they put
- 38:12on Toji sub and then he was so attached to.
- 38:14So attached so much attached to that when he when he was
- 38:18changing characters. Oh, no, OK, sorry.
- 38:21Because there's the Superman to Clark Kent change that happened
- 38:29in a later episode. Like I had to stop the.
- 38:33Show. I had to.
- 38:36I was like no stop. It I'm crying now.
- 38:38Stop this. I.
- 38:42Lost it. I lost.
- 38:43The best thing, I was like, you know what standing over this guy
- 38:47is? Like so funny and I don't know,
- 38:50do you think it was meant to be funny?
- 38:52I I don't think I don't. Think so.
- 38:54I think it would be really dramatic and I could not help
- 38:58like, like it was so cringy. It was so cringy, but it was it
- 39:03was just like genius. I'm so proud, so glad they did
- 39:05it. They were like, I'm gonna
- 39:07actually like have him do like a Clark hit, like Superman change.
- 39:10Like I'm gonna take off my glasses.
- 39:12And now I am no. Longer.
- 39:16I am muhil. I am the driver.
- 39:19I am I am the manager of Muhuk. I no longer.
- 39:22I no longer have a fake mustache and glasses on.
- 39:25Oh my. I have.
- 39:27I have a cowboy now, so no, I am you like even genius.
- 39:31My favorite part was my favorite, favorite part of that
- 39:34scene was she's the second female lead is in the elevator
- 39:37with him and he's got his get up on.
- 39:39He's that's the Superman. We'll just say he's the Superman
- 39:42character at this point. When he takes off the fake
- 39:45pencil mustache, she doesn't react.
- 39:49And I was like, if I was her and this man just rips off, he's
- 39:56little, that's when I would lose it.
- 39:58That is when I would freak out. The pistol mustache that she had
- 40:01been kissing he she. Had been kissing up on that.
- 40:03Thing she had been kissing on it and I'm like you didn't know
- 40:06that was shifting that was shifting in the middle of the
- 40:08kiss and then to like I said you he pulled it off and you said
- 40:12that wasn't enough for her she stayed.
- 40:13Still still it was when when he put on the cap on.
- 40:18The. Cap.
- 40:19Then she was like. Like it was just genius.
- 40:25Or like you don't make it like this.
- 40:27They don't make dramas like this anymore.
- 40:30I miss it. I miss it.
- 40:32I miss it. You can laugh.
- 40:34Where's the? Camp get to cry.
- 40:35Where's the camp? Where is the camp, guys?
- 40:39And we were in it, too. I mean, back then, they were in
- 40:41it. They was like, they were, yeah,
- 40:42I was with her. They were like that wasn't.
- 40:45That was you, the whole. Time no, they knew that the the
- 40:49double identity but they I mean that people have to be caught up
- 40:54yes, I do yeah every single thing that was happening in the
- 40:57show anyway, we're getting into the weeds on this sorry.
- 41:00What I'll say is that this show did incredibly freaking well.
- 41:04As I said, this show is a hit. It's a success.
- 41:08Iconic. Iconic and it was such a success
- 41:11that it's had multiple remakes done, a Turkish, a Chinese, a
- 41:14Thai remake and a Japanese remake.
- 41:17They are all some some translation of I'm sorry I love
- 41:21you. The Japanese remake is Gomen
- 41:23Ashteru. The ratings for this show
- 41:28incredibly high from day one. Episode one had a 16% rating.
- 41:35That means 16%. The population was watching, was
- 41:40watching. This would blow everybody away
- 41:42if today, if 16% of Korea was watching a single K drama today
- 41:49at the same time, at the same time, we would not hear the end
- 41:52of it. This would be the drama of the
- 41:54year. OK, And it only got higher at
- 41:57the end of the show. The final episode had a 29%
- 42:04rating. Wow.
- 42:05Isn't that crazy? It's mind blowing, It's mind
- 42:08blowing and but it also just explains like if you're watching
- 42:12something in Korea today, you're going to get references to this
- 42:15drama. To this day, like I watch K
- 42:17variety all the time. I still hear them making jokes
- 42:20about this drama or like memeing it or like using the music, the
- 42:24the the the famous OST. Like I still hear that in dramas
- 42:29like like just to make poke fun of mellow, like you'll hear it
- 42:32all the time. So it's like it's iconic.
- 42:34That's how you know, everybody gets the references.
- 42:36When you think about how many people are watching at that
- 42:39time, it explains why even now, to this day, they can still
- 42:42refer to it. And people in Korea will still
- 42:45be like, oh, yeah, they're talking.
- 42:46They're. Oh, yeah, I'm sorry.
- 42:47I love you. Yeah, they're.
- 42:48Poking on my absolutely. I love you.
- 42:49I get it. It was big.
- 42:51It was. Huge.
- 42:52Can't understate that. And at this point I think I
- 42:55don't want we don't want to spoil anything else.
- 42:58We already spoiled this double identity.
- 43:00Thing that happened to the. Show Lola, what would you rate
- 43:03the show out of five soldier bottles?
- 43:06You know, this is always the hardest thing for me because I
- 43:08always have to take myself out of it sometimes because I, if I
- 43:12for me, my watching like my actual experience, I would say
- 43:15it was probably a three for me. But I think I appreciate it so
- 43:20much about it because I'm just like missing the ways of
- 43:24yesteryear. And so I want to say I want to
- 43:26give it a four for that reason. There was so much, there's so
- 43:29much iconic distance in it. And I had a good time with some
- 43:32of the stuff that was like, this isn't meant to be funny, but I'm
- 43:35actually laughing. Unintentional comedy.
- 43:37Yeah, I still had a good time with some of the stuff.
- 43:39So I would say A4 on the highest end, but my pure enjoyment, it
- 43:43was a three. I would say 3.
- 43:45OK, so 3 or 4? I would say 3, but I want to say
- 43:494 for people to like to convince them that still it's worth
- 43:53checking out kind of thing. But OK, you can give half
- 43:57points. Too.
- 43:58I'll do three. Yeah.
- 43:58So let's do 3 1/2 then. All right, 3.
- 44:00And a half. I will say my score is also a
- 44:03three and a. Half because.
- 44:05There was a lot of iconic points in the show that I forgot about,
- 44:10like when they when she finally writes I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I
- 44:13love you. I was like, oh God.
- 44:15I'll try. There it is there it is.
- 44:19The name of the show in the show.
- 44:20I love that. It's so great on different
- 44:23levels and it is an emotional roller coaster.
- 44:26It does have a lot of craziness in it.
- 44:30Like bar none, it's crazy. And some of the things that I
- 44:35think other K dramas do down the line, copy from this era.
- 44:40Absolutely copy from this era of K dramas.
- 44:43Like at one point she starts to like lose her grip on reality
- 44:46and she starts seeing him everything.
- 44:47She starts hallucinating things every you throw a Rock You hit a
- 44:51cage drama that has done this. Exact.
- 44:54Thing absolutely, where they're envisioning them in front,
- 44:57malely, femalely envisioning each other next to them in front
- 45:01of each other on the street, you name it.
- 45:03And I'm like, that's it's here. That's where it's from.
- 45:06There it is. Yeah, yeah.
- 45:08Incredible show, incredible performances.
- 45:11The performances. I don't care that it's a low
- 45:14budget. Like I don't give a shit.
- 45:15I know, but it looks like it's from 2004.
- 45:19Doesn't faze me. I didn't, I didn't even notice
- 45:22it. I'm going to be honest, which
- 45:23the only thing that made me notice it was the music.
- 45:26Well, that's what made me realize like, wait a second,
- 45:28we're in 2004. The some of the, you know,
- 45:32Western music that was popping up this.
- 45:34Is not exactly. This is why when we say like K
- 45:37dramas have changed so much, there's so much catered to the
- 45:41western audience this type of OST.
- 45:44It's not you would never find this in AK drama nowadays at all
- 45:49at all. And that's what we miss is like,
- 45:53this is raw. It's like untouched.
- 45:56I I love that it's untouched. Yeah, it is.
- 45:59It is. And even untouched, it you go
- 46:01back to it, you can't help but be like, this is there is so
- 46:05much value in this. There's so much that I can take
- 46:08from this and appreciate even if I don't like the story on its
- 46:11base. Like there are still even.
- 46:13If I'm like what the hell? What is this?
- 46:15I don't like this story at all, but there is so much more that I
- 46:20I still took from it. I was like, this is still making
- 46:22me a appreciate these dramas from this time.
- 46:24Like it did not make me think This is why I don't watch these
- 46:27old gay dramas, right? Like I didn't have that reaction
- 46:30to it. I was like, actually, which one
- 46:31do I need to go back and watch? Now exactly.
- 46:34Exactly. Like.
- 46:35I think so too. I agree completely.
- 46:37So 3 1/2 for me, 3 1/2 for you. You're definitely simpatico on
- 46:40this. You're definitely having too
- 46:42much fun. Why we like to do this?
- 46:46This is why. This is why you do.
- 46:48This, but we're gonna get into the spoiler section.
- 46:51What exactly happened to these people in this show right after
- 46:56this? Excuse me?
- 46:59You. Know I.
- 47:00Have no. Sorry.
- 47:07What? All right, we're on the other
- 47:12side of spoilers, so we are going to spoil what happens and
- 47:15I'm Sorry I Love You, which is a 21 year old drama.
- 47:19So if you haven't watched it or if you're really intrigued by
- 47:22it, I would suggest stopping now and coming back later.
- 47:25Watch it on your own. It is 16 episodes on Vicki,
- 47:28which is where we watched it. All right, we have to talk about
- 47:31this meet queue because they end up meeting in Australia, which
- 47:38is a big, big deal, right, To have the first episode happened
- 47:42in Melbourne, Australia. And it was actually shot there.
- 47:44Yeah, yeah. I didn't realize that I was
- 47:47gonna do this. This was very unintentional, but
- 47:49this is the third drama in a row about an adoption.
- 47:54Story that you've watched. Yeah, so I did move to heaven.
- 47:58Yeah, our beloved summer. He's our beloved.
- 48:01Summer. And now I did.
- 48:02I'm sorry. I love you so.
- 48:04I really didn't intend for that to happen.
- 48:06But here we are. Here we are.
- 48:08Yeah, the the Overseas Adoptions I Hate Korea segment that they
- 48:14intro the whole share with. Yeah, it's very interesting to
- 48:18me. I feel like they're definitely
- 48:19trying to say something about that.
- 48:23The producers and editors shown in the show are making fun of
- 48:29Soji sub's Korean and saying that he doesn't fit the concept
- 48:33of the show that they are creating because they have all
- 48:36this documentary footage. And he is shown saying his mom
- 48:41must have had a good reason for giving him up for adoption.
- 48:44Maybe she couldn't afford milk and did it so that he'd have a
- 48:47better life. And if he ever reunites with her
- 48:49again, he wants to give her a life of luxury, telling her to
- 48:52wait just like five years and five years.
- 48:54I'm going to have enough money to go back to Korea and we can
- 48:57reunite. I can give you a good life
- 49:01already, MC. Fucking heartbreaking, I know.
- 49:04Yeah, it was. It was sad.
- 49:06It was sad 'cause you're right. In comparison to the other
- 49:09footage of the other I guess. Who were like fuck Korea I hate
- 49:13Korea. Yeah.
- 49:14Fuck my mom, I can't. Wish this like.
- 49:16She abandoned. Yeah.
- 49:19And he has this completely different perspective.
- 49:21And it's really, yeah, it's really heartbreaking because.
- 49:24And I mean, this is a part of my, like, I was big on picking
- 49:27up the theme and some of the motifs going on in the
- 49:30mothering. And it started in that first
- 49:32kind of segment because he, his Korean that he has learned has
- 49:36been from this girl that he's dating at the time, his
- 49:39girlfriend who has taught him Korean.
- 49:42And it's obviously, you know, not the best because, you know,
- 49:44they're in Australia and it's not his, I guess, first
- 49:47language. But I thought it was interesting
- 49:50that they already positioned this idea of mother as in
- 49:54homeland motherland also him wanting searching for his
- 49:58mother, but also having sympathy for his mother.
- 50:01So as much as you know, they're like this isn't fit our what we
- 50:05want for our documentary. We want people to be hating on
- 50:07Korea, these adoptees to be hating on Korea.
- 50:09You know, he's still looking for his mother.
- 50:11He's and he's looking for his motherland at the end of it all.
- 50:14And I really actually, I like that they set that up from the
- 50:17beginning. It gives you a good perspective
- 50:19of what we're going to see because the.
- 50:21K drama of it is that there's going to be a 180 in his.
- 50:26Perspective of his love for Korea and his mother.
- 50:29Yes, exactly. You get the five year time jump
- 50:32and then we do the meet queue, which is he is scamming women,
- 50:38luring them into his. Car.
- 50:40Car, Yes. Due to like language and culture
- 50:43familiarity. He's like, oh, are you Japanese?
- 50:45And then says a few words in Japanese and they get in his
- 50:47car. Oh, are you Chinese that get in
- 50:50his car? It's crazy now.
- 50:52He's a criminal. He's an actual criminal.
- 50:55He's a literal criminal. He's and he's also homeless and
- 50:58he's homeless. So he's hustling as best as he
- 51:00can, as best as he can in the streets of Australia.
- 51:03Yeah, but you can see the concept that was introduced of
- 51:05like wanting that familiarity and the kinsmen being played out
- 51:12and even how he scams. He scams even how he scams.
- 51:16So anyway, he meets Unche who is seen helping her philandering
- 51:21friend out. Philandering friend.
- 51:24Her bestie is a serial cheater and all these things, and then
- 51:29her other bestie who's the second male lead Teyun, is
- 51:34obsessed with this cheating. This cheating girl, crazy girl
- 51:38so. Like the second female lead is
- 51:42not a good person, no, and then the second male lead is obsessed
- 51:46with her, which doesn't. Make sense?
- 51:48It's like things like Why? Why are you obsessed with?
- 51:50Her why? Why are you strung out over her?
- 51:53I don't get it. Yeah, yeah, but you see her, the
- 51:56female lead, Unche with the second male lead.
- 52:00I think there's a scene where he grabs her and pulls into the
- 52:03bathwater with him. Yes, he's taking a bath and he
- 52:08while she was basically with her friend, the other girl, she gets
- 52:11a call from him and she comes to running.
- 52:13That is another theme about. That's a theme.
- 52:15Yeah, is that she comes to running whenever these men come
- 52:18a college, she comes to running. And so you have our Unche
- 52:22running to his, you know, at his beck and call.
- 52:24And when she gets there, he's in a tub, baby, in the midst of him
- 52:28complaining and whining about the other girl not picking up
- 52:32his phone call. Yeah.
- 52:34And also you can see that she has some kind of feelings for
- 52:37him right off the bat, that she's like having to hear him
- 52:40whine and. Whine about moan about this
- 52:43other girl. And she has to be there
- 52:45listening to it. And then he pulls her in the tub
- 52:48when he's naked, her fully clothed mind you.
- 52:51And then even inconsiderate, inconsiderate, very
- 52:54inconsiderate. And then also very
- 52:55inappropriate. It flashes her completely
- 52:57because they're in a working relationship.
- 52:59She works for him on top of it all, she lives in his home in
- 53:02the basement. She's works for him.
- 53:05He I mean, he was just like, and you're supposedly her, her best
- 53:09friend and you treat her like shit.
- 53:11Yes, off the bat, Off the bat, That's how they sit there and
- 53:16he. Mocks her.
- 53:16He says, Do you see me as a man? Man, Yeah, as he's like standing
- 53:20naked in front of her. I'm like.
- 53:21Come on dude, come on man. Come on, this is inappropriate
- 53:24for work relationship. And then he serenades her.
- 53:28By singing, you are so beautiful to me on the piano and I'm like.
- 53:33Sing get this guy out quote UN quote.
- 53:35Sing Sing air quotes. Because it's so bad.
- 53:40Yeah. Also when, Oh my God, when they
- 53:42introduced Hoji sub after the five year time jump, he's in the
- 53:45car bopping to Sean Paul. Sean Paul.
- 53:49Just give me the. Line just give me I was in.
- 53:56Tears. I.
- 53:57Loved it. That's what dated this drama.
- 53:59Yes, the music. The music dated it.
- 54:02We don't we. Don't get like Top 40.
- 54:04Anymore, we can't. They can't pay dramas, they
- 54:06licensing, they can't pay for it.
- 54:08They can't pay for it. They get it.
- 54:10Yes. It was so funny.
- 54:12I was like, this is great. When there's a part in the
- 54:14drama, they're like 50 seconds playing.
- 54:15I don't. Like in the club?
- 54:17I was like. The Black Eyed Peas are just.
- 54:21It was great, Yeah. It's like, that's good.
- 54:25I mean, and then the the $0.50 in the club is like over like
- 54:29this really dramatic scene. I mean, just sometimes they, I
- 54:35don't think they really we're matching up the actual yeah.
- 54:40No, they don't know the meaning. Of this, of this song, yeah, it
- 54:42wasn't magic, it wasn't matching, but OK.
- 54:45Sorry, but at the same time, you see in this episode that she
- 54:47gets her face scraped because she saves the second male lead
- 54:51from getting run over by the male lead on this.
- 54:55They haven't even met yet, like nobody's met each other yet, but
- 54:57she falls to the ground and scrapes her face and the second
- 55:01male lead Italian is up in arms. He's.
- 55:05But your face is the he's. Her face is so precious to him.
- 55:09All of us, yes. And he's like bandaging her up
- 55:12and they're so intimate. He's like blowing on her face
- 55:14real close and so scared that it's going to scar.
- 55:19Concerned about her, I think he says at one point, let them get
- 55:22the wrong idea if a scandal breaks out, we.
- 55:23Can just marry. He's like, yeah, he's like, I
- 55:26don't, yeah, he doesn't care. He says things like this to her,
- 55:29not quote, not knowing, I guess, that she has any feelings for
- 55:32him. But it's still obvious on our
- 55:34end. We can see how she's reacting to
- 55:36every little thing that he says and every little thing he does,
- 55:38every little touch, 'cause he's very handsy with her.
- 55:41He'll hug. He'll hug on her, even.
- 55:43Today, yeah, they are. Nowhere near he is with her.
- 55:48Yes, he was so handsy with her. It was it was like, OK, calm
- 55:52down, you know, let her go. I'm so.
- 55:54Touching on her. Always touching her and she's
- 55:56always like, you know, flinching at this, 'cause she likes him
- 56:00and she, she. Likes him.
- 56:01She wants him to touch him. But it's never a romantic.
- 56:04Yeah, you know, in that way. Exactly.
- 56:07He tucks her into bed and starts singing Love me Tender.
- 56:10Tinder. Yes, again, beautifully sung.
- 56:13Just. Beautifully sung, loved it.
- 56:17It was so bad, it was so. Bad.
- 56:19But anyways, they finally meet, so the male lead and the female
- 56:22lead meet and he promptly sells her into a strip club.
- 56:27Slash human trafficking. Yeah, it's bad.
- 56:30It's bad. That scene, I was like strip
- 56:32club. I was like.
- 56:33Wait a minute. I didn't.
- 56:36Remember this at all? Exactly.
- 56:37I was so I was like, this is a big moment here.
- 56:40I was like there was actual like.
- 56:42'Cause she's like. Body cheeks showing on the desk
- 56:45where they came there. I was like, wait a minute.
- 56:48Guys, yes, can you? Drama, 2000. 4 exactly.
- 56:51It's so it's so much more like rated R yeah 13 than the dramas
- 56:56even today. I would say absolutely.
- 56:58His buddies who are running the scam scammed her.
- 57:01He didn't scam her personally, but he still scams her by
- 57:05selling her off. But he feels some type of way
- 57:09because she's Korean. Yeah.
- 57:11And he's Korean, So he's kind of like, oh, OK.
- 57:14Like, I don't know. He feels some type of way.
- 57:16He feels sorry. He finds her luggage getting
- 57:19thrown about in the streets, dismantled by his friends.
- 57:23He sees her passport, and he sees who she is, her name and
- 57:26everything. And he actually comes back,
- 57:28circles back and rescues her from the place he sold her off
- 57:32from the place that he got her into.
- 57:33Yeah. Yeah.
- 57:35And they spend the night outside on a literal cardboard box.
- 57:41Because he's homeless. She even has a moment.
- 57:43She's like, you don't have homeless.
- 57:45She's like, you don't have a home to go back to.
- 57:47Like she literally is like, guy, I was following you all day
- 57:49because I thought you were gonna like, take me somewhere safe.
- 57:52And she's like a stray dog at this.
- 57:54She's a stray dog and she's like, just like hovering behind
- 57:56him the whole time and he's just walking ahead.
- 57:58Of her he. Didn't say anything to her and
- 58:00she's just following him like a puppy.
- 58:02And then when they get to their destination, it's a cardboard
- 58:06box. It was sad.
- 58:10It was actually kind of sad. I was like, because I didn't
- 58:12know he was homeless either to some extent because the way we
- 58:16met him, I didn't. I knew he was I.
- 58:17Didn't immediately think this man doesn't have a.
- 58:20Recovery. I did not think that at all.
- 58:22So I was like, wait, he doesn't have a place to take her back
- 58:24to. It's like this cardboard box.
- 58:27But yeah. It was, it was bad.
- 58:29Like it was like all kind of bad.
- 58:30But like on this evening during the night, she calls out for her
- 58:35mom because she's so scared shitless and she's freezing cold
- 58:38at night. And when he hears this, he kind
- 58:41of turns over and just immediately hugs her and cuddles
- 58:44with her and she's like. Ah, get off of me.
- 58:48I have a husband and children. That is very common in 2004
- 58:53Bellow dramas where the woman is in this position, this kind of
- 58:56like risque position with the Bell lead and then she
- 58:58immediately goes to I'm married, not my husband, and it's like
- 59:02that. Exactly.
- 59:03In Somerset, she's that's what. I'm thinking of exactly in
- 59:05Somerset, so yeah, yeah. But they, they spend the night
- 59:09like cuddling for warmth and just tenderness or whatever.
- 59:12And you're kind of like, OK, where the hell is this going to
- 59:15go? Yeah, you will not expect what
- 59:18happens next because the girlfriend that taught Soji sub
- 59:22how to speak Korean getting married to some mafioso because
- 59:29she is apparently a gold digger. She just wants money.
- 59:32She. Just wants money.
- 59:33Love isn't enough. I can't live.
- 59:35I can't eat love. I need money.
- 59:37Yeah. Like that, she doesn't.
- 59:38Say that she literally. Said something like that.
- 59:40Yeah, and he's crestfallen but super angry at her.
- 59:44He steals the bride vows. If we can't get married, then
- 59:47let's die. Together, it was Thelma Louise.
- 59:50So dramatic. Yes, it's going to be a Thelma.
- 59:52Louise He had them at the edge of a Cliff in the car.
- 59:54He was like, I'm going to gun it.
- 59:56And again, at any given point you're just like, what the fuck
- 59:59is going? What is going?
- 1:00:01On yes. He takes her back to the
- 1:00:03wedding, though. Which was surprising to me.
- 1:00:05I was like, what makes him which?
- 1:00:06Was really strange because they go through with the wedding.
- 1:00:09Oh, he initially came in saying that if you didn't, if she
- 1:00:13didn't make any more kimchi, kimchi talking about she's got
- 1:00:16to make more kimchi and that comes up.
- 1:00:20Really found a lot of meaning in that.
- 1:00:22It yeah, it comes back. Kimchi is.
- 1:00:24Exclusively. Korean.
- 1:00:26Yeah, exclusively. And this woman that he has
- 1:00:29lashed onto like a mother bird taught him Korea is his the
- 1:00:33closest tie to Korea, to be honest in Australia.
- 1:00:35And then attaching Kimtree on top of that, it just gave this.
- 1:00:39Is that him being connected to? Korea, he's losing his.
- 1:00:42Losing it. He was getting severed from it
- 1:00:43again. Yeah, he was to this white man,
- 1:00:46I mean to be. Honest, like some white dude
- 1:00:48that I don't even know. Like Jason, I think it was his
- 1:00:50name. Jason today was literally Jason.
- 1:00:52Jason was was stealing her away from him.
- 1:00:54Literally. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:00:56So she says. Oh, I didn't get to make any
- 1:00:58more before I left because they were literally, I guess, living
- 1:01:00together together right up until the wedding Wedding that was
- 1:01:03suddenly thrust upon him like it was wild behavior.
- 1:01:07Yeah, cuz when he found out she was getting married, he was
- 1:01:09buying her a dress with the money he had just scammed off of
- 1:01:11somebody. He literally was like shopping
- 1:01:13for her, like getting ready to have this Pretty Woman moment
- 1:01:16where the the sales clerk was like, you know, that's that's
- 1:01:19really expensive. You can't afford that kind of
- 1:01:21thing. Yeah.
- 1:01:21The Pretty Woman. Yeah, the Pretty Woman.
- 1:01:24And then he she's in there dress shopping.
- 1:01:26Yeah. For her wedding.
- 1:01:27Yeah. And he's like, wait.
- 1:01:28What is that is? Going Yeah, like she, he finds
- 1:01:30out simultaneously that she's been cheating on him, eminently
- 1:01:34getting married to some other. Guy and she invites him to the
- 1:01:38wedding she. Invites him to the wedding and
- 1:01:39that's when he steals her and like the kimchi and all that
- 1:01:41stuff, he delivers her back. The goofiest looking assassin
- 1:01:47with the literal forehead tattoo and a black leather jacket pulls
- 1:01:51a gun and starts shooting. Starts shooting the groom and
- 1:01:56the wedding party and the male lead Soji sub dives and tries to
- 1:02:02shield the bride. My favorite thing is you see all
- 1:02:05the bullets hitting all over, you see it hitting glassware,
- 1:02:09you see it hitting everywhere and I'm shocked that this
- 1:02:13lunatic managed to get 2 headshots. 2 to sold you sub not
- 1:02:18122. Two, and what even the fact that
- 1:02:22he was this man, this assailant, the fact that he was just
- 1:02:25casually drinking it, it during the wedding, mind you, he was,
- 1:02:30he was. Outside, he was.
- 1:02:32He was the. Road he was up the road then
- 1:02:35comes into the wedding is literally drinking with the
- 1:02:38forehead tattoo with. The forehead tattoo.
- 1:02:39And that doesn't that nobody thinks, no one, no one, no one
- 1:02:42was concerned about this. Dude, where's the security?
- 1:02:45This is mafia stuff. Like I was like, dude, you're
- 1:02:48getting married, you're in the mafia.
- 1:02:49You're like. Jason has the worst security,
- 1:02:53worst of all time. Fire everybody.
- 1:02:55It was so funny. I was like, this is a joke.
- 1:02:57Like it was. It was able to shoot.
- 1:02:59Just shoot up the entire wedding.
- 1:03:01So just have gets 2 bullets in the head, one is still lodged.
- 1:03:04The doctors are saying you might experience personality changes.
- 1:03:08It's an unclear lifespan. Obviously he has very little
- 1:03:13time to live. Very little and they say like
- 1:03:15they would have tried to remove it, he would have died
- 1:03:17instantly. So the bullet that was
- 1:03:19technically like keeping him alive at this point, but of
- 1:03:23course throughout time or overtime, it was going to
- 1:03:25gradually, not even gradually, it was going to slowly kill him.
- 1:03:29He's living on borrowed time. The Jason mob boss groom guy is
- 1:03:34out to kill him because he's still on pretty good terms with
- 1:03:37the bride. The bride literally cut the
- 1:03:39ex-girlfriend, wife or whatever packs a carry on for him and
- 1:03:44tells him I booked you a flight to Korea, get the fuck out.
- 1:03:47She also gave him lots of money. Lots of money, obscene amounts
- 1:03:50of money. She's like, this is going to
- 1:03:51last you a lifetime. Don't die here like a dog and go
- 1:03:56back to Korea is I think what she tells him, which there's a
- 1:04:00lot there. I feel like even in that
- 1:04:03sentence of if you're Korean, why die on foreign soil?
- 1:04:07Foreign go back to Korea and die in Korea.
- 1:04:10Yeah. And then with some dignity.
- 1:04:12Yeah. And even.
- 1:04:13Yeah. Like her calling him a dying
- 1:04:15there, like a dog, that idea of being a lost puppy, you know, at
- 1:04:20least if you're back in Korea, you least can say you're at
- 1:04:23home. You're in home, you know.
- 1:04:25So I feel like that was interesting too, to make him
- 1:04:28again here like this. Lost dog, lost puppy.
- 1:04:31Yeah, yeah. We cut to we're in Korea.
- 1:04:34This female lead is in some sort of like brand smart USA looking
- 1:04:38place which don't even exist anymore.
- 1:04:41Yes, like a video store, Yeah. Like a tech store and I love
- 1:04:46those places. So nostalgic for yes for that.
- 1:04:50So she's there running lines in front of a camera because she
- 1:04:53has like a low key aspiration to be an actress.
- 1:04:56Actress, which they never get. Never pick it up.
- 1:04:59Never pick it up again. Never.
- 1:05:01She's running lines and it's Romeo and Juliet.
- 1:05:05Yep, tragedy the tragic. That should give you a clue.
- 1:05:09It tells us what it is it tells us and the story it tells us.
- 1:05:12Yes, it tells you the literal end of the show right there.
- 1:05:16Because she's Juliet reciting Romeo and Juliet.
- 1:05:19In episode 2, he meets the twin sister.
- 1:05:23Who is well, I guess we should probably also mention that the
- 1:05:25minute he arrives in to Korea, he goes onto ATV show about
- 1:05:30Korean adoptees and it's like a show where they're like
- 1:05:34interviewing people who are you know who are back in Korea after
- 1:05:38being adopted and they're looking for their family.
- 1:05:41So this is their way of getting kind of pushed to the forefront
- 1:05:44so that if their family sees them, they can connect them with
- 1:05:47their family. Yeah.
- 1:05:48One of the people that are watching them is his nephew,
- 1:05:50this little boy who is absolutely a star.
- 1:05:54So good. Talk about amazing performances.
- 1:05:57I love him. I love him.
- 1:05:58Always has, always will. Yes.
- 1:06:00Gotchi was the best. I mean, so he's like watching
- 1:06:04this TV show because his mother is so yourself's character, twin
- 1:06:09sister. Of course, they don't know that
- 1:06:10yet, but he knows she's a wasn't, you know, adopted.
- 1:06:13So he's like watching this show to see if he could ever find any
- 1:06:17information for his mother so that that she can be reconnected
- 1:06:19with her family. So again, Gauchi right there
- 1:06:22from the beginning, you're like, he is just the sweetest little
- 1:06:25boy looking out for his mom and trying to find her family.
- 1:06:28And so when he sees that, I think, yeah, so just some
- 1:06:31character has this ring on this necklace that he, you know, has
- 1:06:35since he was adopted, he sees that looks similar to what his
- 1:06:39mom has. And so he starts to take note,
- 1:06:41like, this man might possibly be related to my mom.
- 1:06:45But yeah, that's kind of how we get to the point where he gets
- 1:06:48connected to his twin sister. Because they have the same
- 1:06:51necklace. And unfortunately she got hit by
- 1:06:54a car when she was seven years old outside of the orphanage.
- 1:06:57And now she's developmentally challenged.
- 1:06:59She's stuck at like a. Child's.
- 1:07:02Age right in her head, so she's disabled.
- 1:07:06Yes. But she has a child.
- 1:07:08She has a little boy. Complicated.
- 1:07:10Complicated already. And I wonder why they never tell
- 1:07:15us. Like why?
- 1:07:16What happened, What happened? I want to say it's almost
- 1:07:19implied though, when they had that big yeah, that that scene
- 1:07:23that was really hard to watch. I mean, I was, I was like, this
- 1:07:26is the one of the hardest parts of this drama.
- 1:07:28I'm going to be honest, I did not like that that scene at all.
- 1:07:31So I forgot about it. So when it came up again, I was
- 1:07:33like, oh, I hate this. Yeah.
- 1:07:35So I think that was kind of implied.
- 1:07:37I think that this happens to her in the neighborhood.
- 1:07:40She's kind of always falling victim to these thugs as they
- 1:07:43call them. And then for her just to have a
- 1:07:46sign, you kind of like I, I think that it's.
- 1:07:49Heartbreaking. It's heartbreaking and you
- 1:07:51definitely have to rub your two brain cells together to figure
- 1:07:55it out. You have to put that together.
- 1:07:57Guess what? What happened there?
- 1:07:58Because they never do explicitly say who Khalji's dad is.
- 1:08:03Exactly. He goes to visit the mom's house
- 1:08:07because he figures out who his biological mom is and the female
- 1:08:13lead, like he said, rents out the basement with her family.
- 1:08:16The mom works as a housekeeper. The father is some sort of
- 1:08:21driver for them. Let's talk about the dad.
- 1:08:25Let's. Just take a minute.
- 1:08:28Let's just take a minute and talk about this family because.
- 1:08:29What the fuck is that dad? He was the worst.
- 1:08:32The worst. He was the actual villain.
- 1:08:33He was the actual villain of the story.
- 1:08:35I did not realize that he was the actual villain.
- 1:08:38Like he's the villain of the story.
- 1:08:39Yes. Not the, not the mother.
- 1:08:42Not the mother. Not the mother she's at.
- 1:08:44She's a victim in this as well. Yes.
- 1:08:47I mean, he was the worst part of this drama.
- 1:08:50The fact that he was the reason why the twins were put up for
- 1:08:56adoption in the 1st place and then to keep it to himself the
- 1:08:59whole time. The whole freaking time.
- 1:09:01I was so mad at the end when that reveal happened to to
- 1:09:04Soldiers Hub's character and Moo Hulk and he kind of just like
- 1:09:07I'm sorry. That's all he says.
- 1:09:09He's like I'm. Sorry, I would pay for this for
- 1:09:11the rest of my life. I'm sorry.
- 1:09:12Like, dude, we're in episode 16. You know, I'm just, you're just
- 1:09:18now telling me. Like The thing is that dad, even
- 1:09:21from jump, like the early episodes, he goes to pick up the
- 1:09:24female lead from something I can't even remember what it is,
- 1:09:27and he asked the second male lead, Cheyun, about her.
- 1:09:31He's like, what does she like? What does she like to?
- 1:09:34Do he doesn't even care about his own daughter?
- 1:09:36And he, he says to himself, he's like, I don't even really know
- 1:09:40her. Yep, because he cares only about
- 1:09:43his actress, his who he works for like he's in.
- 1:09:47Love with her he's. Obsessed with they.
- 1:09:48Do not say that in the show. They do not.
- 1:09:51He is fucking in love with the actress mother.
- 1:09:55It's disgusting the way disgusting with her.
- 1:09:58It's disgusting. Mind you, she's a 50I mean she's
- 1:10:00like a 50 something year old woman and he calls her like
- 1:10:03she's a little girl still and it's like she's not a little
- 1:10:07girl. Stop calling her that.
- 1:10:09I mean, it's just the way he talks to her, the way her her,
- 1:10:13her, her this like she he was constantly hovering around over
- 1:10:16had some. Weird job description that they
- 1:10:19said it was a driver. I was like, this is not a
- 1:10:20driver, he's not a job. Instantly with her.
- 1:10:22He was like her. Just like.
- 1:10:24I mean, and wouldn't you? Call him her.
- 1:10:26I don't. Strange.
- 1:10:28Cuz she would call him something too.
- 1:10:30That was like, would she call him?
- 1:10:31OPA. Like, I don't even know.
- 1:10:32It was just like, yeah, I think it was OPA.
- 1:10:33Yeah, they should call him OPA. You're calling him OPA?
- 1:10:36Like it was just something. About their relationship that I
- 1:10:38never. I was like, this is not sit well
- 1:10:40with me, but you don't even know your own daughter.
- 1:10:42You know all about her, but you don't know about your own
- 1:10:45daughters. Got it?
- 1:10:47It was foul. It was foul.
- 1:10:48And I thought on 2nd watch that the writers seemed to be
- 1:10:52implying that they were siblings.
- 1:10:55Really. Because the father.
- 1:10:59Of the twins so. The father of the male lead and
- 1:11:01his twin sister were abandoned. Abandoned.
- 1:11:04The father is supposed to be some director.
- 1:11:06Married. With Married with children
- 1:11:08Married with. A family of his own.
- 1:11:10And I was like, oh, OK, they never show the director.
- 1:11:13They never say who it is. They never, like, reveal who it
- 1:11:16is. And I was like, was it the dad?
- 1:11:21Was it the female lead's dad? I.
- 1:11:24Don't think it was or was. He.
- 1:11:26Just obsessed with her in the same way that his daughter was
- 1:11:32obsessed with, yes, the second elite.
- 1:11:35I think that I think it's definitely the former because I
- 1:11:37mean latter because I think that especially towards the end there
- 1:11:40when he is like with the reporter guy who was also a
- 1:11:44little bit of a villain of the story, another villain of the
- 1:11:46story, to be honest. Like, I mean, when he was
- 1:11:49sitting and talking to him at the very end about like, like,
- 1:11:51why didn't you sell? Like, why didn't you release the
- 1:11:53book kind of thing? I feel like that was true about
- 1:11:55the director situation. I mean, which revealed to me his
- 1:11:59love for her. I thought it was best for her.
- 1:12:01And like, so you thought it was best for her to take her
- 1:12:04children from her children that aren't yours.
- 1:12:06You know what I mean? Like they weren't actually, no,
- 1:12:10I don't. So like, I don't think I don't,
- 1:12:13you know? Now that we're talking.
- 1:12:14It through. I don't think they were.
- 1:12:15Talking but but it's OK. He's like peeing outside the
- 1:12:18house. Going back to episode 3, the
- 1:12:21male lead is like peeing outside the house.
- 1:12:23The female lead thinks that he has come from Australia all the
- 1:12:28way to her to see her. She's like delusional and she's
- 1:12:32like, you can't. Why would you come all the way
- 1:12:33to? Australia.
- 1:12:34For me, like, he didn't, sweetheart.
- 1:12:37He did not. Yeah.
- 1:12:39And the old man that you mentioned, that reporter.
- 1:12:42I feel like this is a weird character that probably wouldn't
- 1:12:46exist and today and right if the drama was made to agree.
- 1:12:50Completely agree. Because it was super random
- 1:12:53super like hodgepodge together. The reason why he had this
- 1:12:57vendetta again wasn't even a good reason.
- 1:12:59Wasn't even a good reason the. Final scene of the drama
- 1:13:02literally in the last 10 minutes.
- 1:13:03They tell you like why he was mad.
- 1:13:05At her and it was like she stole her his sister's sister's
- 1:13:08husband back in the day and then.
- 1:13:10A few years later, the sister. Committed suicide and it was
- 1:13:13like OK what? What?
- 1:13:16I completely agree like that A. Character that they completely
- 1:13:19kept bathing like he was going to do something like, oh, he's
- 1:13:22going to be the one that reveals this that does this that he was
- 1:13:25to tell all book he was going to be he was right tell all book is
- 1:13:28such a that's also like really. Dated a tell all a tell.
- 1:13:32All book A physical book. So dated, Oh my God.
- 1:13:37Like nowadays it would. Just be you put it.
- 1:13:39Out on the Internet? Online, yeah.
- 1:13:41You put it out online, yeah. You just get.
- 1:13:43It and everyone. 'S like, Oh my gosh, it's going
- 1:13:45viral, this news, yeah, yeah, it would just go viral online
- 1:13:48versus him. Literally selling book.
- 1:13:52Remember, he was like. Collecting.
- 1:13:54Pictures to put. In.
- 1:13:55His book for the tell. I was like, Oh my God.
- 1:13:58And then he's just. So disgusting of a person.
- 1:14:02Not helpful. He's not he like they're living.
- 1:14:05Is he, are you living next to him or living in his house like
- 1:14:07it was unclear here he was living with them or next?
- 1:14:10Next to them, they were literally living in squalor in a
- 1:14:12It was one of those 10 minutes, yes, and he was not helpful.
- 1:14:16Like the stuff he would say when he was when our Gauchi was like,
- 1:14:20my uncle was dying basically. And he was just like, no, he's
- 1:14:23not. Yeah, he was like, no, he's not.
- 1:14:25He's fine. You're he's OK.
- 1:14:27I mean. The little boy is crying his
- 1:14:29eyes out. You know, it was just like, he
- 1:14:31was not a nice guy. He was not a good guy at all.
- 1:14:33I have to say the love. Triangle.
- 1:14:36Is it even a love triangle? I don't think it is.
- 1:14:40It was. Especially.
- 1:14:43Because everyone's threatening. To kill themselves.
- 1:14:45Every 5 minutes. I noticed that in the very
- 1:14:47episode. 1 episode 1 episode 1 starting in episode 1 we get
- 1:14:51constant moments of our 2 male leads specifically threatening
- 1:14:56to kill themselves or kill each other.
- 1:14:59I mean kill like take the die with the the love of their life
- 1:15:02that they love so much. It's like why threading death or
- 1:15:05suicide? Like I hated that from the
- 1:15:07beginning because it was. And again, if this is your.
- 1:15:11Thing then trigger warning, trigger warning show, but it was
- 1:15:15constant constant and I feel like that is sprinkled
- 1:15:19throughout the shows of this era of the early odds is taking
- 1:15:23things to the extreme that is mellow for the and being they
- 1:15:28love. It oh, dramatic over.
- 1:15:30Everything each of the leads are like, if you don't love me, I'm
- 1:15:33gonna kill myself. Kill myself.
- 1:15:35I'm gonna kill myself. I'm gonna kill.
- 1:15:35Myself, yes every second, especially this like I'm male
- 1:15:39lead especially him he. Literally jumps in the water,
- 1:15:41guys. He literally jumps in the water.
- 1:15:43He can't swim. He's literally trying to kill
- 1:15:44himself, guys. He's.
- 1:15:45Literally. Trying to kill him, it's just
- 1:15:47ridiculous. It's.
- 1:15:49Ridiculous. And it's not even like just.
- 1:15:52It's always freezing water, it's always a hit trip to the
- 1:15:55hospital. Everything is life or death.
- 1:15:59And I hate that. And I hate that because.
- 1:16:02That it's just like the drama itself is already about life and
- 1:16:05death. Like they're literally the the
- 1:16:07male lead is dying every single moment we watch.
- 1:16:10It's like embarrassing. Yes, it's embarrassing.
- 1:16:13To see. Like the?
- 1:16:15The. Male lead told you so doesn't do
- 1:16:17it. He doesn't after he who knows
- 1:16:19that he's going. To die but.
- 1:16:20He never threatens, like I'm going to kill myself, but the
- 1:16:24second male lead is constantly, constantly doing it, Yeah, and
- 1:16:28it's so frustrating. When you're like, people are
- 1:16:30literally dying, it's like Kim, people are actually dying, you
- 1:16:34know, like they like be serious. Yes, be serious.
- 1:16:36There are people who are actually.
- 1:16:37Sick and dying. Right now and you're mad because
- 1:16:40the girl won't answer your text message?
- 1:16:42No, calm down. Oh my God.
- 1:16:43But Speaking of text messages, how awesome.
- 1:16:46Was it to see flip phones? They were great.
- 1:16:48Which are on. Them the charms.
- 1:16:50Ringtones, OH. My gosh, I even like just like.
- 1:16:54Seeing them like. Type, yes.
- 1:16:56And those buttons and the sound, I'm like the good home days, the
- 1:17:01good home days. It was really nice.
- 1:17:03Yeah, it was, yeah. There's so much complexity to
- 1:17:07the relationship. Between the brothers, even
- 1:17:09before they know that they're brothers, the male leads.
- 1:17:12So what you said plays like this pick up game in the hospital
- 1:17:16which has a basketball court for some reason after he saved him
- 1:17:19from drowning, almost drowning. Yes, from drowning and he's in
- 1:17:23the hospital recuperating. They play this one-on-one and
- 1:17:27the male lead is like, you don't have a brother, right?
- 1:17:29Want me to be yer hyung? Yep.
- 1:17:31Which is like a, you know, honorary kind of position.
- 1:17:35And he says, OK, fine, sure, you saved my life.
- 1:17:38So yeah, you could be my. Young now like that's how they
- 1:17:41and it's as simple as that. Simple as that.
- 1:17:44Where he ingratiates himself with at this point, who we think
- 1:17:47is his biological half brother, yes, We think this is his half
- 1:17:51brother, guys, yes. The whole way through you think
- 1:17:54this is his half brother guy brother.
- 1:17:57He teaches the the second. Male lead how to swim Yep, he
- 1:18:01lets him drown a little, he lets him die a little bit and.
- 1:18:05Then you know, brings him back to life.
- 1:18:08That's how close they are. His brothers just like stuff.
- 1:18:10It's just the whole thing is just unhinged like.
- 1:18:13This revenge plot is a it's a wreck.
- 1:18:17It's a wreck. It's not a very good.
- 1:18:19Revenge story. No, no, he literally lets him
- 1:18:22drown a little bit, resuscitates him and then and then is washing
- 1:18:26his back in the showers afterwards.
- 1:18:28It's like, but this guy, like you can see that he's he.
- 1:18:32Hates the success. He hates their love.
- 1:18:36He hates that the family, you know, his mom and the brother
- 1:18:39are so close. They have an unhealthy
- 1:18:43relationship closeness. Which?
- 1:18:45Makes the reveal at the end a lot more like what the hell,
- 1:18:50that's what I was. Picking up on.
- 1:18:52The entire drama because I was picking up on because the.
- 1:18:57Mom is obsessed with her son. She's obsessed with her son,
- 1:19:02with her son. Constantly doing promos with.
- 1:19:05Him where they look like they're a couple couple together doing
- 1:19:08duets on stage together. She is like.
- 1:19:11Kicking all the time next to. Him.
- 1:19:14So why? Are they sleeping in the?
- 1:19:15Same bed, sleeping in the same bed.
- 1:19:17I don't know about that. Like it's so questionable.
- 1:19:22It's super questionable like. Even a moment she like spanks
- 1:19:25him yes in. The bed.
- 1:19:26I'm like your son, but he's like, how?
- 1:19:31Old is. He he was in his twenties, 20s
- 1:19:34and you're sleeping. In bed with him.
- 1:19:35Spanking him it was not Yeah, it's so problematic their
- 1:19:40relationship, but then. The male lead sees all of this
- 1:19:43and he's like this should be me, mine, this should be me.
- 1:19:47I am also her son. Not to mention my twin sister
- 1:19:52and the nephew were dirt poor living in squalor.
- 1:19:56Living in squalor, So it is. Really, the juxtaposition
- 1:20:00between them. Which is constant throughout the
- 1:20:02show, where they're looking on toward this relationship, toward
- 1:20:07the mom, looking in through the giant glass window into the
- 1:20:10family room and stuff. And it is brutal.
- 1:20:12It's hard to watch. Yeah, you can see and like.
- 1:20:15The and I was making fun of the cat we're making.
- 1:20:17Fun of the cap. And the pull down moment, but
- 1:20:19like there is that big cool down moment when he is in the car
- 1:20:22with them, like he's driving them.
- 1:20:24When he becomes his young, he also becomes his manager.
- 1:20:27Yeah, his manager, yeah. And he is driving.
- 1:20:31Them back from. Somewhere, and she's like
- 1:20:34letting her son lay his head on her lap in the back of the car
- 1:20:38and she's singing him a lullaby because he's sleepy or he's
- 1:20:41tired. It's just he's so spoiled, so
- 1:20:44such a baby. And a little baby.
- 1:20:47He's having nightmares. About ghosts at Ghost Big Age.
- 1:20:50At his big age, he's scared of gold and he needed a little
- 1:20:54love. Abide to go to sleep in the back
- 1:20:55of the car after a long hard day of singing horribly and then we
- 1:21:02have and we have our little character driving them and
- 1:21:04seeing them back there and he hears her singing this lullaby
- 1:21:07to him and he starts to tear up listening to his mom sing this
- 1:21:13song to this to her, you know her son.
- 1:21:16And then when they are getting out of the car or whatever and
- 1:21:18she or she calls him and he like takes the moment to cover his
- 1:21:20face with the hat because he doesn't want them to see him
- 1:21:23crying. But even moments like that were
- 1:21:25really sad to have this revenge story.
- 1:21:28He's trying to get revenge on this, this mother and her son
- 1:21:32also just kind of wishing that was him.
- 1:21:35Like, if I could just have it be me, I wouldn't want revenge, you
- 1:21:37know, like, if I could just have her love me.
- 1:21:39I don't need this. I don't need to be a bad guy.
- 1:21:41I don't want to be the bad guy if I could just have her.
- 1:21:44And I think that's what was frustrating to get to the end.
- 1:21:46It was like he never got to have her.
- 1:21:49Yeah, he never had that. He had proxy.
- 1:21:52Proxy. Yeah, exactly.
- 1:21:54Very much proxy. Mothers.
- 1:21:55Oh my. That was my biggest problem with
- 1:21:58this story was the the mothering that the other women had to
- 1:22:01become. Literally, because that is the
- 1:22:03female lead is very motherly. It's very warm.
- 1:22:05She's very caring. He's.
- 1:22:08Drawn to that? He's drawn to all of the times
- 1:22:10that she thinks of other people other than herself.
- 1:22:13You know, she's crying due to this love triangle, this love
- 1:22:17square, whatever you want to call it, in the streets,
- 1:22:19literally crying in the streets. And he's following her from
- 1:22:23across the street and he sees her stop because there's a
- 1:22:26child, a lost child. And she's like drying her tears,
- 1:22:30tears and trying to like figure out what to do with this child
- 1:22:34and get the child to the parents.
- 1:22:36And she takes it upon herself. She does this good deed.
- 1:22:39And she's always like that. He sees her do that multiple.
- 1:22:41Times we have multiple scenes when she is basically in the
- 1:22:45middle of the street doing something and then at the same
- 1:22:48time he sees her taking care of someone else or something else.
- 1:22:52In one case it's a stuffed toy dog.
- 1:22:56That because OK bloody we have to talk about the other half of
- 1:23:00this revenge story. Which is not just him getting
- 1:23:02close to the family and trying to, you know, sabotage or
- 1:23:06whatever. The sabotage also manifests in
- 1:23:09he literally seduces the second female, the lead, who is
- 1:23:14technically the one that. Our Yoon is in love with.
- 1:23:19I don't know if this would even fly.
- 1:23:22Today. You don't think so?
- 1:23:24I don't, I don't think. The seduction.
- 1:23:27The the. Seduction.
- 1:23:30He literally. Bought an.
- 1:23:31Office Tel Condo. In the same building as her to
- 1:23:35try and basically have these mysterious run insurance with
- 1:23:38her mysterious stupid get up get up he.
- 1:23:43Slicks. Back his hair.
- 1:23:45He puts on. This fake pencil mustache and
- 1:23:49then he wears glasses, yellow sunglasses at all times.
- 1:23:55And this is his costume, this is his disguise.
- 1:23:59Because she obviously sees him as a manager next to Tegyu in
- 1:24:04the second. Male lead.
- 1:24:06So every time she sees him he does some crazy.
- 1:24:10Not it's not even crazy it's just like random mysterious
- 1:24:14thing. He says something to her that
- 1:24:16piques her interest. The best 1 is that when they
- 1:24:18first meet though and he says. This if you get involved with
- 1:24:22me, it's going to be till death and like literally he says he's
- 1:24:26like if you. She's like, don't.
- 1:24:27Basically like don't ever don't cross the line because if you
- 1:24:30cross the line when you get involved with me, it's going to
- 1:24:33be till death. And he's like literally because
- 1:24:35I'm dying, you know, So like it's going to literally be till
- 1:24:37death. But it was it was a bit.
- 1:24:41Much and she's. Supposed to be like a reformed,
- 1:24:44you know, cheater at this point because she's technically at
- 1:24:46this point dating Che Yoon. So she's like kind of thrown
- 1:24:50away her old ways. So when he's like taunting her
- 1:24:54and like kind of, you know, trying to seduce her and she's
- 1:24:56kind of like absolutely not. I'm that's not me anymore.
- 1:25:00I don't want this. But she's obviously still
- 1:25:02falling into his trap because she's, she's she.
- 1:25:05I mean, she was a sucker for it. She really was.
- 1:25:09I did not like her. Character.
- 1:25:12Only because towards the later episodes she had nothing to do.
- 1:25:15She was just walking around at some point.
- 1:25:17Yeah, they him. Calling her to take her to
- 1:25:20digital and then actually her just leaving, ending up leaving
- 1:25:23it. I was like, that was a waste of
- 1:25:25character right there. That was a waste.
- 1:25:27A waste because it's not like he couldn't have paid for it
- 1:25:30himself. Yeah, he could have got there.
- 1:25:32He could have did it, yeah, he could have got there to JJ.
- 1:25:34People to feel like he didn't need her to take him.
- 1:25:37No. And then as soon as she gets
- 1:25:38there, she's calling. He's here.
- 1:25:40Come get him, you know? Yeah.
- 1:25:41She's like, come get your man. Come get your man.
- 1:25:43It's fun, Yeah. Like I I can't do anything for.
- 1:25:45Him. He doesn't want me.
- 1:25:46He don't want me. He took off the mustache like he
- 1:25:48doesn't love me anymore when he. Had the mustache all night.
- 1:25:50He wanted me. OK, he doesn't have the mustache
- 1:25:53anymore. Yeah, yeah, it's pretty bad.
- 1:25:56Let's talk about the mom a little bit, because I.
- 1:25:59Forgot about the moment that she has a little hissy fit at the
- 1:26:01local restaurant that's serving blood sausage and the owner is
- 1:26:06kind of like a low class establishment, doesn't have good
- 1:26:11sanitary methods. And the lady serves the soup,
- 1:26:14putting her thumb in the soup and serves it at the table.
- 1:26:18Yeah, she loses it. She's.
- 1:26:20Like this is I would. Never eat here like how dare you
- 1:26:23bring. Me here to eat this.
- 1:26:24That Lady, the restaurant owner, throws blood sausage.
- 1:26:28All over her I miss how much food.
- 1:26:31Was. Thrown around in the show,
- 1:26:34That's so true. They don't do that anymore.
- 1:26:36They do. Not do that.
- 1:26:38Anymore milk. Milk.
- 1:26:40Milk, you know, Yeah, you got to throw the food sometimes you.
- 1:26:43Have to throw it I'm. Like that is.
- 1:26:45Classic. Where did that go?
- 1:26:47But then her hissy. Fit turned into Muhuk.
- 1:26:50'S fizzy fit like he actually threw a worse hissy fit because
- 1:26:53there is so many competing feelings here and.
- 1:26:57He he wants to please her. And I thought.
- 1:26:59That was going to be a. Moment.
- 1:27:01I don't know, I even think. Me watching this the same time,
- 1:27:03I don't, I didn't remember. I was like, oh, is this a moment
- 1:27:05where she's going to actually like, oh, I like this guy.
- 1:27:08He's kind of like me, you know, he's a little mean, like I can
- 1:27:11be, you know, I thought that was going to be a little moment that
- 1:27:14they were brought further together, but no, not at all.
- 1:27:17Like, and I kept waiting for that to happen.
- 1:27:20I think again, it was like, oh, there's got to be a moment where
- 1:27:22he gets a little bit from her because that's his mom, right?
- 1:27:25Like she's got to have a little bit.
- 1:27:27But like, you never see that with him.
- 1:27:30And that was hard for me. I was like, come on, give him
- 1:27:32something. He's dying and we got nothing.
- 1:27:35He's got nothing. He doesn't have anything.
- 1:27:38God, give him a little something.
- 1:27:40The female lead goes back to clean up the restaurant because
- 1:27:42of course, so Adisa ripped it all apart like a gorilla.
- 1:27:46She stays overnight, but she was sick like starting the day.
- 1:27:50She was already feeling feverish and sick.
- 1:27:52And he goes back to this small town that they were at filming
- 1:27:56earlier. He takes care of her and she's
- 1:27:59hell. That's the other thing she just
- 1:28:01knows someone took. Care of her through the night
- 1:28:04and she was sick and I was like, Oh my God, it's classic,
- 1:28:07classic. Classic.
- 1:28:09Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:28:11That the Mel Lee actually cares about her.
- 1:28:14No. I hated that she also was like
- 1:28:16oh. You you saved my.
- 1:28:21Life like she. I was like, OK, settle down.
- 1:28:23It was just a high fever. It was not.
- 1:28:25You were gonna, you were not gonna die, she said.
- 1:28:27She was gonna die. She literally thought she was
- 1:28:28gonna die. She really.
- 1:28:29She really? Thought she really thought.
- 1:28:31I love the cliffhanger. Endings though, they're the
- 1:28:33best. They're the best.
- 1:28:35And so this male lead is there as she's pouring her heart and
- 1:28:39saying thank you to Tayyun for taking care of her all night and
- 1:28:41saving her life and all this stuff, and the male lead is
- 1:28:44there. You think he's going to say
- 1:28:45something or it's just going to end on him looking sad or
- 1:28:49whatever for Lauren? No.
- 1:28:51He looks up and then unto frame pops his camera phone because he
- 1:28:58takes a photo of them hugging. I'm gonna.
- 1:29:02Use it. Yeah.
- 1:29:03I loved it. He.
- 1:29:04I. Mean it was like a freeze.
- 1:29:05Frame of him. Holding up the phone in front of
- 1:29:06his eye and you're just like. And he just like takes the
- 1:29:10picture. It's like, so dramatic.
- 1:29:12I never see someone pressing a phone button be so dramatic.
- 1:29:17It was just a Press of a button. And we knew it was going to be
- 1:29:20bad times for our Che because he was going to use that the
- 1:29:24scandal upon him. And he does he he does get a
- 1:29:28scandal out of that. They do break the scandal, I
- 1:29:32think in the next episode and. The mom is shown to be a
- 1:29:35classist, very much so because she is insulting.
- 1:29:40The female lead. And you know, oh, this is going
- 1:29:43to ruin Tay. You never be with you.
- 1:29:46Yeah, Like never be with. Her and all this stuff because.
- 1:29:49They're unequal. She's of a lower class than he
- 1:29:53is. He's a celebrity.
- 1:29:55He's a celebrity. Yeah.
- 1:29:56Her dad. Finally sticks up for her in
- 1:29:58that. Moment and I was like OK, the
- 1:30:00only positive thing in the entire show.
- 1:30:07Also in this episode. The twin sister.
- 1:30:09Gets sexually assaulted in the street, which is, I think that
- 1:30:12moment that you were referring to earlier.
- 1:30:13That was really, it was hard. That was hard.
- 1:30:17I hated. That moment.
- 1:30:19But it was a moment that for the Mujo character, it was his
- 1:30:24moment to really see that this is his family.
- 1:30:27He wants to take care of his family.
- 1:30:29He wants to to have this family in a way.
- 1:30:32And I thought that was a good turning point for his character,
- 1:30:35at least when he finally kind of took in his twin sister and his
- 1:30:39nephew as like, these are my people, These are my folks,
- 1:30:41These are my people. And I can at least say I have
- 1:30:44them. And I thought that was a really
- 1:30:46good part of that to come out of that horrific moment for her
- 1:30:50because it's horrible. It was.
- 1:30:51It was so really, she's loving her skin.
- 1:30:53Yeah, it was it and everything. It was.
- 1:30:56They don't do stuff like this. They don't do.
- 1:30:57That anymore this was really. Rough guys when I I and that's
- 1:31:00why. Like, let's, let's talk about.
- 1:31:01How bad this Let's talk about it because she gets assaulted on
- 1:31:05the. Street by a couple of thugs who
- 1:31:07kissed her. What they say is sexual assault.
- 1:31:08Yeah, sexually assaulted when they when she said no, they did
- 1:31:11not say sexual assault. They didn't say the term sexual
- 1:31:15assault. No, they say, kissed her.
- 1:31:16They kissed her, yeah. And then the police came.
- 1:31:20Before it got more serious. That is a direct quote.
- 1:31:23Direct quote from the old the old man.
- 1:31:26Who is the worst, the worst, the worst?
- 1:31:29He's talking to and he's saying this in front of her son, her
- 1:31:32son, her son, who's distraught. Crying he is.
- 1:31:36Crying he is, which I love rollably he and it.
- 1:31:39Sounds weird, consolable about how his mother was assaulted,
- 1:31:43was assaulted in broad daylight. And I have to say this, I
- 1:31:47thought that was wonderfully done that.
- 1:31:50For, and I, I think this is not, does not happen as much as it
- 1:31:52should anymore with prey dramas, but like a child character and
- 1:31:56such a dark kind of twisted story being like experiencing
- 1:32:01emotions as a child. Like he was taking care of his
- 1:32:03mother. A lot of the drama that is true,
- 1:32:05but they still allowed his, his child character to be a child
- 1:32:09and like was allowed to cry and, and get upset and to be sad
- 1:32:13about things as opposed to like, I'm just going to be strong.
- 1:32:16I have to do this because my mom needs me.
- 1:32:18Like he would cry to his mom, even though she wouldn't be very
- 1:32:20helpful, he would still cry to her.
- 1:32:22And I still I think that they need to do that more with child
- 1:32:25characters these days were mature do mature.
- 1:32:28Let them be a little child. So I did.
- 1:32:30Really appreciate that. Like as much as he was a very
- 1:32:32mature, you know, little boy, he still was a child at times.
- 1:32:36And they kept reminding us this is a child dealing with these
- 1:32:39really harsh situations. He didn't go to school, he
- 1:32:42didn't go to school, He couldn't go to school.
- 1:32:43They tried to. Enroll him in school.
- 1:32:45Couldn't get him to school like it was.
- 1:32:47Yeah, it was really, it was really sad, but it was rough.
- 1:32:50And the old man, like we were saying, we always talk shit
- 1:32:52about this old. Man in this episode.
- 1:32:53But like, he was unfazed, unfazed.
- 1:32:56He says, oh, it's no big. Deal.
- 1:32:58This happens sometimes. And the male lead is torn up.
- 1:33:03Soji sub goes in as she's taking a bath.
- 1:33:07She's taking about like a giant bucket bucket top, all of her
- 1:33:10clothes still on. And she has the little
- 1:33:13exfoliating. What do they call them?
- 1:33:15Like the little mittens that they used when they scrubbed,
- 1:33:18like a scrub pad Scrub. Yeah.
- 1:33:19And she's scrubbing her face, scrubbing the shit out of her
- 1:33:23face. She's scrubbing her.
- 1:33:24It's her. Nillow pad She has her Nillow
- 1:33:26pad and she's. Scrubbing her neck and her
- 1:33:28chest. And you can see.
- 1:33:29It's Red all hurting herself. She's hurting herself because
- 1:33:32she feels. Justing because of what Just.
- 1:33:34Took place and she's trying to scrub all that off and so you're
- 1:33:37watching this and he's watching this too and I was just like he
- 1:33:40is so emotional he's but trying to keep it together yes.
- 1:33:44Because he comes down to her and he tells her, like, do you want
- 1:33:47me to help? You he actually do you want me
- 1:33:48to help you? And originally I think I thought
- 1:33:51he was going to go after the thugs, like go find the guys
- 1:33:53that did it. But instead what he does is he
- 1:33:56ends up scrubbing her for herself.
- 1:33:58Like he takes the and he's because she was hurting herself.
- 1:34:01She was actually hurting herself and I like that he took it upon
- 1:34:04himself. Like obviously she wants to feel
- 1:34:06clean. She wants to do this at this
- 1:34:08time. So instead of me telling her to
- 1:34:10stop it or like don't do that, he takes over and does it less
- 1:34:14forcefully. Obviously, you know, so like
- 1:34:16that was just like a he's so tender with her, so tender and
- 1:34:22he's apologizes. For yelling at her because he
- 1:34:24yelled at her. Earlier.
- 1:34:25He's constantly like in the earlier episodes, yelling,
- 1:34:28trying to reconcile. Like how do I even treat her?
- 1:34:31Because it is. Frustrating to deal with in a
- 1:34:34fully grown adult, but she's not.
- 1:34:36She's a child, you know, basically.
- 1:34:39And he's frustrated with their entire lot in life and he yells
- 1:34:43at her for little things. So he apologizes and he promises
- 1:34:47to never do it again. And then he helps her take a
- 1:34:49bath with like a soft cloth. Instead.
- 1:34:52The quote is, I'll wash it all the way.
- 1:34:55Yep, I wash it all the way. It's these moments that make you
- 1:34:59really get on board with with a male lead and you do with.
- 1:35:03And then he messes it up the next scene when he and he
- 1:35:07messes. It up like because he does yell
- 1:35:09at her for like other things. It's not as constant and he is
- 1:35:13much nicer. Yes, to her, not as severe, but
- 1:35:17this wouldn't happen. It wouldn't.
- 1:35:19This just wouldn't happen in a drama today where someone is so
- 1:35:24obviously abusive to somebody. That's disabled.
- 1:35:26Exactly and also they would be so abusive and then it.
- 1:35:30Like I feel like over time they would just be a good guy.
- 1:35:33They would just be better, you know what I mean?
- 1:35:34He does not ever. He relaxes, never like, Oh my
- 1:35:38gosh, he's the perfect bell lead.
- 1:35:40Now. He's never good, he's never
- 1:35:42perfect. He's never a sweetheart to the
- 1:35:4410th degree. Like he's always troubled and
- 1:35:47rough around the edges and brutish all the way to the very
- 1:35:50end. And that to me is not normal
- 1:35:53anymore. It's like, no, they, I mean to
- 1:35:55think we followed that character from beginning to end, a
- 1:35:58character who was kind of like unchanging and they're bruteness
- 1:36:01and they're kind of like, I mean, yelling to the very last
- 1:36:03episode, like yelling at folks, man.
- 1:36:05I mean, I feel like the only slapping a kid on the subway,
- 1:36:08subway. The old ladies he would like
- 1:36:10push old ladies. Away it was.
- 1:36:13Rob I was like, why are you so mean like?
- 1:36:16He was quite. He was unruly.
- 1:36:18Yeah. He's like an animal was and it
- 1:36:20all the way to the end, they would do a drastic shift and
- 1:36:23they would become this like little Angel by the end.
- 1:36:26He's going to be the way that he's going to be.
- 1:36:28I mean it just is what it is they get and granted he is brain
- 1:36:32damaged. I know, I know.
- 1:36:34That's like tough to like keep in the back of your mind.
- 1:36:37Yeah, He is brain damaged. Yeah.
- 1:36:38He's got a bullet in his brain. That and he's riding in pain,
- 1:36:42Riding in pain every. He's.
- 1:36:43He's vomiting. He's.
- 1:36:45Bleeding. Profusely.
- 1:36:47Not just like a Nosebleed. I mean bleeding profusely from
- 1:36:50his nose and his mouth. That time he was holding his
- 1:36:53mouth when she was talking to him and it was just blood
- 1:36:56everywhere. I was just like, I can't do
- 1:36:58this. I was like, I can't do this.
- 1:37:00I could not do this. It was really, and it was.
- 1:37:03Like the acting? Was top tier because I had the
- 1:37:06hardest time watching him. Like it was so bad.
- 1:37:09Those pain scenes when he was like the writhing in pain and
- 1:37:13just like vomiting over a toilet.
- 1:37:15It was just like this is hard to watch guys.
- 1:37:17It was it was hard to watch. So we get some more scenes of
- 1:37:21like they. Start liking each other, the
- 1:37:25male lead and the female lead. She's teaching him honorifics on
- 1:37:27the subway and it is revealed that she loves Tagun.
- 1:37:33She's loved him all her life and Tagun has the worst reaction.
- 1:37:39Like what do you mean you are? In love with me.
- 1:37:41That was his actual reaction, yeah.
- 1:37:44Yeah, and he tests her. By telling her, oh, I love you.
- 1:37:49And then he runs downstairs wondering how her body is
- 1:37:52reacting. And he's like, why is your heart
- 1:37:53beating so fast? Yeah, he's upset by it,
- 1:37:57genuinely. But.
- 1:37:58Again. Why would you do?
- 1:37:59That to her, that's inconsiderate.
- 1:38:01If someone says there is an asshole, there's all assholes.
- 1:38:05It's horrible, The. Whole time.
- 1:38:06The whole time that everybody. Is everybody there's Like,
- 1:38:10where's the good guys, man? Where are the good guys?
- 1:38:12I know there are no green flags in this.
- 1:38:15No, don't look for them. They're not.
- 1:38:16Here, not one, she says at this point when I look at him.
- 1:38:20Referring to the male lead. I feel like I'm looking at
- 1:38:23myself. He is shy, awkward, and can't
- 1:38:25quite express his feelings right.
- 1:38:27I feel sorry for him. Yep.
- 1:38:30And then she announced that she's going to travel to Africa.
- 1:38:33She's going to move away to Africa.
- 1:38:36Like what? What?
- 1:38:37What was that about? What the hell is that?
- 1:38:39Yeah, she doesn't. Guys she does not move to.
- 1:38:41Africa and of course, the. Next question is what?
- 1:38:44What do you mean Africa? Where in Africa?
- 1:38:46Where Africa is not a country, They.
- 1:38:50Don't ever say. What country she's they don't
- 1:38:51ever say. They just say.
- 1:38:52Like Africa, she wants a place where she's not going to hear.
- 1:38:55Any news of Korea? OK, fine, we'll let you have
- 1:38:58that. But other than that, no, you
- 1:39:00didn't say a country. So there was nowhere you were
- 1:39:02moving anywhere because you didn't even know where you were
- 1:39:03coming, he says to her. The mail lead says to her before
- 1:39:07you go. Make kimchi.
- 1:39:09See again, there it is. Again, there it again.
- 1:39:12There it is. There's the kimchi refugee
- 1:39:14because back to when you just mentioned how she when they
- 1:39:16started liking each other and when she he was, she was
- 1:39:18teaching him how to be, you know, respectful and polite in
- 1:39:22his speech. And now that he's in Korea, even
- 1:39:25that scene again and there's more scenes that follow that her
- 1:39:28taking on this motherly position for him.
- 1:39:30So it her motherly position that she was already doing for you,
- 1:39:34it starts to shift over to him. And and so that was when I was
- 1:39:38just like, I felt sorry for her every time.
- 1:39:41I just kept feeling sorry for her.
- 1:39:42I mean, even the ending reveals itself that because she has a
- 1:39:45moment with you and I think maybe that same episode or yeah,
- 1:39:49I think it would seem episode in the earlier when she's yelling
- 1:39:52at him that he's treating her like his mother, like I'm not
- 1:39:55your mother. She says that the thing that
- 1:39:57keeps happening with you and but she doesn't notice it starts to
- 1:40:00kind of trickle, at least to me, over to you Hook as well.
- 1:40:04She says I can't make kimchi, but I can make radish kimchi.
- 1:40:09And he smiles and I love that scene of him.
- 1:40:11Like he looks so disappointed that she said no to that.
- 1:40:14She said no. But then she says, well, but I
- 1:40:17can make radish kimchi. And then he's like, Oh my God.
- 1:40:19She said yes, I'm going to get kimchi.
- 1:40:21Kimchi made kimchi until his mother actually stayed.
- 1:40:25Like, yeah, mother, I mean, cuz then the next scenes are
- 1:40:29basically these montages of like her basically moving in with him
- 1:40:33and moves in like a mother, a figure again.
- 1:40:37So I'm like, there is this moment where it's like, that's
- 1:40:39how we're supposed to know that this is love for him.
- 1:40:43Like why wouldn't he fall in love with a woman who's like his
- 1:40:46mother, right? Like that's what it the mother
- 1:40:48he never had, that mother that he never had.
- 1:40:50Why wouldn't he love fall in love with?
- 1:40:51Her, you know. I mean, it's the love that he
- 1:40:53had from his ex back in Australia, like the same kind of
- 1:40:56love he had for her. I believe me, Kimchi, she's
- 1:40:59actually stepping in helping me, you know, living, making this
- 1:41:02home with me. Like she started teaching them
- 1:41:05all how to read and like write their letters and stuff like
- 1:41:08that, literally. And even when like the little
- 1:41:10one Gauchi, he's. Not enrolled in school.
- 1:41:12So she's like, oh, I need to go help him get into.
- 1:41:14She tries to enroll him. Yeah.
- 1:41:15She becomes his mother, the twin sister and the.
- 1:41:18Diamond ring. Debacle.
- 1:41:20Yeah. That was brutal.
- 1:41:21It was so hard to watch because it was hard to watch.
- 1:41:24This is her mother. It's bad.
- 1:41:26The mother calls her like a freak.
- 1:41:28It's. An entire thing.
- 1:41:29The cops get called and the female lead is literally just
- 1:41:34sitting outside letting this all happen.
- 1:41:36She does not. I really I was shocked by that,
- 1:41:39did not. Understand that I was shocked I
- 1:41:41was cuz she's known to always. Kind of step in.
- 1:41:44And help. And this was the time when she
- 1:41:46didn't do that. And so when he comes and sees
- 1:41:48her doing, like, standing outside, Yeah, He's like, are
- 1:41:51you kidding me? He looks at her.
- 1:41:52Yeah. Are you kidding me?
- 1:41:53And I think it was also just harder for him.
- 1:41:55That's their mother that's doing this, berating and belittling
- 1:41:59her child. Yeah.
- 1:42:00It's horrible to watch the prayer.
- 1:42:02Do you want to talk about the prayer?
- 1:42:04Oh, the prayer. What episode was the prayer so I
- 1:42:07have. It down as episode 8 if you let
- 1:42:09me have her. For the time I have left, if you
- 1:42:12let her comfort me. For the time I have left, if you
- 1:42:15don't hurt me again. I could stop everything right
- 1:42:19now. The hatred, the anchor.
- 1:42:21I'll let it all go. Yes, the prayer so.
- 1:42:26I I. I thought it was interesting
- 1:42:27because it. Came out of nowhere.
- 1:42:29There's no mention of God from the very beginning of the drama
- 1:42:32where the like the male leader, anyone else is like, oh, why
- 1:42:36would God do this? Why would God allow this?
- 1:42:38Like there's no one, no mention. And then all of a sudden we have
- 1:42:40this like prayer that came a be. And this prayer is, I guess the
- 1:42:45when it comes to be. It is during that time where
- 1:42:48he's actually getting the chance to have this like little
- 1:42:50happiness. He's getting this little piece
- 1:42:53of a pie that he finds. Like I'm finally getting a piece
- 1:42:55of the pie, like I'm finally getting something.
- 1:42:57And he's living this little family life with his, you know,
- 1:43:01sister and his nephew and this woman who has come in like a
- 1:43:05mother figure for him. And he's enjoying that.
- 1:43:07And so that's when he takes the time to like, oh, wait a minute,
- 1:43:10I don't want to die. I don't want this to be my life.
- 1:43:13I want I don't want revenge. I don't care about that, but
- 1:43:16happy life have this woman and that's where that prayer comes
- 1:43:20from. But I just thought it was a
- 1:43:21little weird that it there a prayer showed up in the story,
- 1:43:24because that's what I'm and that's what I mean when I said
- 1:43:27in the beginning that they drew that in there.
- 1:43:29I think they threw got it to this kind of nihilistic view
- 1:43:33that the story is really presenting.
- 1:43:35But I think they could have set that up.
- 1:43:38We get a prayer from his mother for her son.
- 1:43:40Remember she like says and it's the same same shit.
- 1:43:44Yes. So it's like where is.
- 1:43:46These prayers coming from. When when did they become
- 1:43:48religious? No one goes to church.
- 1:43:49Like, yeah, this really kind of pessimistic, very depressing
- 1:43:53view of their lives at the time. And him grasping for straws, you
- 1:43:57know, grasping for hope. And I and I, yeah, it was, it
- 1:44:01was sad. I'm going to be honest.
- 1:44:02I thought it was really sad when he had to feel the need to, to
- 1:44:05sit out and sit down and kind of like, OK, now I'm going to throw
- 1:44:08up a prayer when I realized like, I actually want to live
- 1:44:11this, this little life that seems to be starting for me.
- 1:44:15It's a consolation. Yep, Yep.
- 1:44:17He's like, finally, can I have this like?
- 1:44:19Please. He's like I.
- 1:44:20Won't do the revenge stuff. Dude was like, you got caught in
- 1:44:23your own revenge story like this.
- 1:44:25Yeah, you didn't. You weren't good at it, you
- 1:44:27know, But I felt like that was also.
- 1:44:28Interesting. That he was praying like, I
- 1:44:30won't do this, that stuff anymore, God, if you just give
- 1:44:33me this. And it's like, well, he knows
- 1:44:34he's wrong. Yeah, he knows he's wrong.
- 1:44:36He knows he's wrong. He doesn't.
- 1:44:38Want to do it? He just wants his mom.
- 1:44:40And it turns into this revenge that, you know, he doesn't want
- 1:44:44to really be putting forth, but he's wrapped up in, you know,
- 1:44:48the second male lead drives his car off.
- 1:44:51A Cliff. I mean, it's the whole thing.
- 1:44:53He ends up in the hospital, he's got a heart condition and the
- 1:44:56female lead goes catatonic. I don't know.
- 1:45:00The sister ends up saying Unche. Hasn't eaten, hasn't slept.
- 1:45:05And is almost showing signs of autism.
- 1:45:07And I said I I had to. I was like this translation
- 1:45:11error like. That cannot be asked.
- 1:45:13Actually, it has to be. I literally saw that.
- 1:45:15I was like, no, this isn't what she really meant.
- 1:45:17I know that. I was just.
- 1:45:19It can't be, right. Yeah, I was autism.
- 1:45:22Yeah, we get the. Famous line though.
- 1:45:24In this episode, Let's eat, Let's eat something.
- 1:45:27She's yelling to stop the car and she's very upset.
- 1:45:31He says would you rather eat or kiss me?
- 1:45:33Would you rather eat or sleep with me?
- 1:45:36Would you rather eat or just live with me?
- 1:45:39Would you rather eat or would you rather die with me?
- 1:45:46There it all is guys. The.
- 1:45:50Infamous line. Yeah, that's the.
- 1:45:52Infamous. Line I mean.
- 1:45:53When he. Started.
- 1:45:54Saying it, I was like, yeah. That's right, I said to save it
- 1:45:58I. Forgot when that scene happened.
- 1:46:01I forgot when that line happened, but.
- 1:46:02When it came, I was like, this is it.
- 1:46:04I had a freak out moment. I was like, Oh my gosh, it felt.
- 1:46:07Like I was same. Yes, here it is when you get the
- 1:46:10die with me. I was like, yeah, I.
- 1:46:12Forgot she doesn't know he's dying.
- 1:46:14You know, she doesn't know he's dying, but then so I'm going to
- 1:46:18like. Skip to the to the next few
- 1:46:20episodes, which is basically he's actively dying.
- 1:46:23He goes to the hospital, they scan him and they they're like,
- 1:46:27yeah, you're actively. Dying you have maybe 3.
- 1:46:30Months left at most. That's maximum most.
- 1:46:32Yeah. I love the scene where he's in
- 1:46:35the hallway. And a dead body.
- 1:46:37Gurney passes, passes by, and he's staring down at that body
- 1:46:40passes and it the. The person who's dead hand hits
- 1:46:44his hand, Yeah, he's just touched by death, by death by
- 1:46:47itself. Touch my death itself itself.
- 1:46:51I was like. We don't get these like cheesy
- 1:46:53things. Anymore in cage.
- 1:46:53I like them, though, I'm not gonna lie.
- 1:46:56Not a lot. We're missing some of those I
- 1:46:59think we need more of. Those.
- 1:47:00These days actually, because I feel like some of the stuff is
- 1:47:03kind of just it's too old. It's like it's Sid more than
- 1:47:06it's like giving like these little, little, little moments
- 1:47:09that you show exactly because that's a moment someone would
- 1:47:11have came and said that, you know what I mean?
- 1:47:12Like exactly, you know what I mean?
- 1:47:14And so I missed those moments, but it was too touched by this
- 1:47:17show. Not not told.
- 1:47:18And the second male lead the brother.
- 1:47:21Is also dying. He's got a heart condition that
- 1:47:24was exasperated by the car accident.
- 1:47:27Yeah, he needs a heart transplant.
- 1:47:29And you're just like, oh, here we go.
- 1:47:30Because whose heart is going to become available?
- 1:47:34Whose the one who's? Dying.
- 1:47:39Yeah, and she is very wishy washy.
- 1:47:42Because. She doesn't like that.
- 1:47:45This, this whole thing was exasperated.
- 1:47:47Yin's condition was exasperated because she rejected him.
- 1:47:51Yeah, yeah, she doesn't like that.
- 1:47:53It leads up to this part. Where he tells the male lead
- 1:47:56told you so tells. Her I will save Yin, so don't
- 1:47:59cry. I can't stand watching you cry.
- 1:48:00You look as ugly as Shrek when you cry.
- 1:48:04That's 2000 and one 2001. Shrek is when.
- 1:48:07Shrek. Was released, he says.
- 1:48:10I'll give my heart to yin. OK, I'll give my heart to yin.
- 1:48:12So will you be with me? And she like, I think for like a
- 1:48:16whole entire episode, she is fucking pissed.
- 1:48:19She's I, she was livid. I've never seen her like that.
- 1:48:22I mean, she this entire time she was this very, like we said,
- 1:48:26motherly caring type of character, but for him, she
- 1:48:30completely shut it shut off. She was like, I don't want
- 1:48:33anything else to do with you, leave me alone.
- 1:48:36This is where we get the milk thrown, you know, like she was
- 1:48:39over it. And then she thought he was
- 1:48:40mocking. Yes, the situation because she
- 1:48:43thought being like, joking, joking because she's like, he's
- 1:48:44like, I literally will be dying. I have a heart to give to you,
- 1:48:48He said. I had three months to listen.
- 1:48:49She was like, yeah, OK, fine. Yeah, she didn't.
- 1:48:52Believe anything at all he said at all.
- 1:48:54And it was so frustrating. And that's what you were saying?
- 1:48:56Earlier you were like, why? In dramas where they they're
- 1:48:59literally telling people stuff and the people are still like,
- 1:49:02I'm not going to listen or I'm not, I'm not going to say
- 1:49:04anything. It's like guy just told you he's
- 1:49:07dying in three months to live and you're still like, how dare
- 1:49:11you mock death? Like he's not mocking death.
- 1:49:13He's he's dying like you're going to.
- 1:49:16Die. Get.
- 1:49:16Together so. There is a weird scene where he
- 1:49:20kisses her suddenly he's like, overcome and kisses her.
- 1:49:24And she's like, oh, is that what you wanted this entire time?
- 1:49:26And they go to a motel. Yeah.
- 1:49:28This is what I have to do for you, for you to give your heart
- 1:49:30to you. And Oh well.
- 1:49:32I'll do whatever for him. She's like UPS but and he's just
- 1:49:35like. Bye and bye.
- 1:49:38Never mind. Yeah, because the problem is she
- 1:49:40keeps making it seem like. Well, at least to him.
- 1:49:43Like, oh, I love you so much. I would do anything for him.
- 1:49:46She kept saying that over Yeah. And like was like rubbing it in
- 1:49:49his face and he's. Literally offering.
- 1:49:51His heart for this man and we're yeah, he was serious.
- 1:49:54He was said serious. Yeah.
- 1:49:56She wasn't buying it anyway. So fast forwarding, the mom gets
- 1:50:01wind. Through Teyun because Teyun
- 1:50:03steals the X-rays out of the house and that he finds out
- 1:50:07through the female leads dad, dad to go to the doctor, wears
- 1:50:11hippo, wears privacy out the window.
- 1:50:13Same thing with with it Somerset.
- 1:50:15I was like, yes, Somerset, same thing, same.
- 1:50:17Thing like you're just giving people their records.
- 1:50:19Medical records. No, no, it's, it's heinous.
- 1:50:22Heinous. So everybody.
- 1:50:23Finds out, except for her, that he is dying.
- 1:50:26Actually dying, actually dying with the bullet in his head.
- 1:50:29He has a healthy heart, healthy heart.
- 1:50:31The mom takes upon herself to try and ingratiate herself with
- 1:50:34the family, buy gifts, send money, send through and all
- 1:50:39kinds of medicine, all kind of herbal tea.
- 1:50:43Good for the heart. Yes, the moment.
- 1:50:46When he realizes that she's trying to buy the heart, the
- 1:50:52heart is such a gut wrenching moment.
- 1:50:55It's disgusting. It's disgusting behavior and she
- 1:50:58knows it's. Disgusting.
- 1:50:59She starts off by that. She talked.
- 1:51:01When she's talking to her OPA, yeah.
- 1:51:03She's talking to her OPA. She's like, I don't care if you
- 1:51:05judge me. I don't care what you think
- 1:51:07about me. I will pay for my sins when I
- 1:51:10pay for them. But you know what?
- 1:51:12I have to do what I want. I need to do for like I know
- 1:51:15that parents will do everything, anything for their.
- 1:51:18Sons. Anything for their children and
- 1:51:21they lose who's all sense of right and wrong.
- 1:51:23And she knew she was dead wrong for all of us.
- 1:51:27All of this later on when he goes to confront her and says,
- 1:51:30oh, I signed up to be an organ donor and I'm gonna give my
- 1:51:33heart to him. He says, oh, we're using all the
- 1:51:35things that you gave us. Yeah, we're enjoying, you know,
- 1:51:38we're enjoying the clothes and we're enjoying the.
- 1:51:40Food and thank you so much and it.
- 1:51:42Breaks her down, she hates it. She's like I, she gets defensive
- 1:51:45and she's like, oh wait, you don't.
- 1:51:46Have to do this. Like, she almost goes into like,
- 1:51:48oh, wait, really? Why would you don't?
- 1:51:51Don't. I wasn't trying to do that.
- 1:51:52Yeah. She was like, I promised I
- 1:51:54would. That's not what it sounded like.
- 1:51:55You know that's not what it looks.
- 1:51:56Like but it was and he totally convicts her in that moment.
- 1:52:01You know? Soji sub showing up and being
- 1:52:04like, well, here you got what you wanted.
- 1:52:06And I also thought it was interesting that and again the
- 1:52:08play that the second-half of this.
- 1:52:10Drama since the prayer started going with like, the religious
- 1:52:13kind of connotations and kind of Christian moments.
- 1:52:16She's like, I'm going to hell yes.
- 1:52:18Yeah. Like that kept coming up, you
- 1:52:19know, like. These moments and with even.
- 1:52:21With his character Kim being like hey, I'm gonna, I'm trying
- 1:52:25to do 1 good thing before I die. Like because just in case you
- 1:52:28know, like I could, you know, like I can go to heaven.
- 1:52:30So I go to heaven. Like maybe if I do this one
- 1:52:32thing? I won't go to hell and I can't
- 1:52:34I. Think he actually says that he
- 1:52:36he says that a few times yeah. So I thought that was
- 1:52:38interesting that that kept coming up towards the end after
- 1:52:40the prayer, the episode 8 prayer yeah.
- 1:52:43They play red light green light a couple of times in the
- 1:52:46tenement house and. I thought that was nice to see
- 1:52:48in the wild because Squid Game has like taken it to home.
- 1:52:50It was completely recontextualized now and I'm
- 1:52:52like no like this. Is this is how you?
- 1:52:54Yeah, this. Is actually how you play it?
- 1:52:56Yeah, it was. Really.
- 1:52:57Cute, yeah. The fucking.
- 1:52:59Dad. The fucking dad.
- 1:53:01So she finally finds. Out that he's.
- 1:53:04Dying, that Mujiok is dying and she's going to go back to Teyoun
- 1:53:09and tell him it's over. Like I'm not going to come and
- 1:53:12see you. I'm not going to be at your back
- 1:53:13and call. I'm going to be with Mujiok with
- 1:53:14whatever time he has left and please let me go.
- 1:53:18And you know, I've been so cruel to Mujiok and all this stuff.
- 1:53:21The male lead and the dad is like, you're not going anywhere.
- 1:53:24Manhandles her into the house. Locks her into the room.
- 1:53:28Locks her out, my God. Unhinged behavior and we don't
- 1:53:32see that anymore. Locking people no in their room.
- 1:53:35No, he's threatening divorce. He's threatening to.
- 1:53:39Disown the dog daughters. The other two sisters, if they
- 1:53:42open the door, he's off to find a new house for them.
- 1:53:45He's don't this is one of the sisters like I have a job in her
- 1:53:47job. I need to get in the room.
- 1:53:49He's like, you can't go to the job in the other sisters.
- 1:53:51Like do I have homework? Yeah, the other sisters like I
- 1:53:54have homework. I have to go to school.
- 1:53:55He's like, you're not going to go to school and like the mom's
- 1:53:58like she hasn't eaten all day. However we have to feed.
- 1:54:01She's gonna die. No, she can't eat nothing.
- 1:54:04She's gonna. She had just like.
- 1:54:06Fallen down the stairs at so she.
- 1:54:08She had like scrapes. All over her blood.
- 1:54:11They're like she's all. Hurt.
- 1:54:12We need to tend to her room. She's like, he's like nobody's
- 1:54:14tending to her room, nobody's going inside.
- 1:54:17What if she has to use the bathroom?
- 1:54:18She. Can't use the bathroom it was.
- 1:54:20Unbelievable because she was going to see me hook like that
- 1:54:25was literally. The only reason he locked her
- 1:54:27up. The only reason.
- 1:54:28And I wonder why you're so up in arms about him.
- 1:54:31Because you have been lying tired and you haven't been
- 1:54:36helping the 'cause when this. Man.
- 1:54:38Has been. Reunited with his mother and you
- 1:54:39could have been like, hey, this is your actual son that I sent
- 1:54:42was dead all those years ago. Like why couldn't you have done
- 1:54:46that? He's just so problematic.
- 1:54:47Like I hate that dad. I hate that dad.
- 1:54:49I hate. That I hate it.
- 1:54:50I mean, I do love the moment in episode 13.
- 1:54:53When they do. Meet up finally because she gets
- 1:54:55let out and he was waiting for her in the rain and she's like,
- 1:54:58she's going to get sick. She was like, I have to go out
- 1:55:01there. I have to go.
- 1:55:02Yeah, he's outside. He's on death's door.
- 1:55:04He. Can't be out in the rain
- 1:55:05anymore. Sickness.
- 1:55:06Yeah, yeah, yeah. So they go to a motel and she
- 1:55:08kind of like. Washes his clothes again.
- 1:55:10Very motherly thing to do. She's doing his laundry and he
- 1:55:15is very gentle with her as he applies.
- 1:55:17Again, just like the second male subject I did earlier, those are
- 1:55:21her sons. Those are her sons that also
- 1:55:24take care of her at. Times, it sounds like when she
- 1:55:26gets scraped on her face. Yeah, they kiss.
- 1:55:29They've kissed, like several times by now, but.
- 1:55:31He's like wrapped in a quilt with no shirt on.
- 1:55:34I was like, if I have if I have an early aughts type, it's that
- 1:55:39it's Cindy. So wrapped in a quilt, Yeah.
- 1:55:43I was like, oh. He looked too fine.
- 1:55:45He looked too fine. Because they ditched.
- 1:55:47The hat in like the last few episodes they did, yeah, which
- 1:55:49was great. Which we needed this.
- 1:55:51Great. This was great.
- 1:55:52When they got exactly how much the mustache I'm I'm like, you
- 1:55:57know, I'm not a fact. Oh my God.
- 1:56:01But anyway, so I'm gonna. Speed round through the.
- 1:56:03Last few episodes. Because we find out, Cheyenne
- 1:56:06finds out. He gets mad about everything,
- 1:56:09all of the truth that comes out. He drops one last truth bomb,
- 1:56:14which is he's adopted. He's the one that's adopted.
- 1:56:18He's adopted his their mother that they're fighting over to
- 1:56:23some extent isn't his real mother.
- 1:56:26No, he was adopted by. She's been acting a fool over
- 1:56:30this man who's. Not her biological child.
- 1:56:33Biological child I was laying in bed with is not.
- 1:56:37Giving sponge baths to at his big.
- 1:56:39Age that. Is not her biological, not her
- 1:56:42child? Interesting.
- 1:56:44You don't say you don't. It was.
- 1:56:45The biggest shock it was. The So there's lots of birth
- 1:56:47secrets in here and. That's the biggest one.
- 1:56:49That's the biggest one. That is the biggest one.
- 1:56:52And that scene, though, like I said, that was I mentioned at
- 1:56:55the beginning when I said I loved to host performance in
- 1:56:59that scene when he's like it threw tears, like kind of
- 1:57:01detailing this. But then he also says for him,
- 1:57:04that's what makes him realize their mom, You know, our mom
- 1:57:08here isn't a villain. He's like for her to love me
- 1:57:11like this and give want to give up her life for basically like
- 1:57:15to this person that isn't her blood, you know, like to me,
- 1:57:18that makes her someone who actually cares about people.
- 1:57:22So I want to tell her that your her her son because I feel like
- 1:57:25she would embrace you like she would love you.
- 1:57:28He would love you if she loved me and I wasn't even her.
- 1:57:31Son, you know, like it's. Powerful.
- 1:57:33It was beautiful. It was the me.
- 1:57:35Maybe my favorite. Scene out of the whole thing
- 1:57:36like. That was my favorite moment.
- 1:57:38And then you have, you know, so just up character sitting there
- 1:57:40in shock. There's like, what did you say?
- 1:57:43He's like, look at him. What did he come again?
- 1:57:46What did you say? It was a great, great scene.
- 1:57:49But I actually detailed something when I was, I wrote
- 1:57:52this out and I wrote out the part that I loved about it was
- 1:57:55that, you know, there, this is the reveal of like them both
- 1:57:58having been adopted. And then it was like 1 in Korea,
- 1:58:01obviously, and then one overseas.
- 1:58:03And then the beautiful part is that they are sitting and
- 1:58:06drinking soju, but not soju, but not because they both are,
- 1:58:10they're both very sick. Obviously.
- 1:58:12They're both at death store technically.
- 1:58:13And so he has poured out soju sub has poured about the
- 1:58:16alcohol, the soju and replaced it with water.
- 1:58:18And he's like, let's just drink this.
- 1:58:20Like we are drinking soju. And they're sitting in, you
- 1:58:23know, his little rundown house with his, his family.
- 1:58:27And they're sitting against the wall with these children,
- 1:58:30elementary school kind of posters behind them.
- 1:58:33And so all of it, I was like, this is just giving 2 little
- 1:58:35boys, right? Like they are basically not able
- 1:58:38to drink alcohol. So they're portrayed as being
- 1:58:40young because they can't do that.
- 1:58:41And then they're sitting against these elementary school posters.
- 1:58:44And I just felt like my heart was breaking for them.
- 1:58:47I really felt that I was like, this is that moment when I was
- 1:58:50like, OK, I was picking on them the whole time about them being
- 1:58:53so immature and so like, little baby birds.
- 1:58:56And they're just like, oh, my gosh, here they go whining like
- 1:58:59immature little boys. But then it was the realization,
- 1:59:02oh, they're little boys. Like, you know, like, yeah, they
- 1:59:06are. Like, it was actually really sad
- 1:59:08for for me at that point. So yeah, one of my favorite
- 1:59:11scenes, hands down, by far. The mom makes him ramen because
- 1:59:15he begs her. To make it.
- 1:59:17I was distraught. I was distraught.
- 1:59:19That's like seriously upsetting. Like it's so.
- 1:59:21Getting more and more upsetting. Yeah, as you go on, it gets more
- 1:59:25and more upsetting. You do.
- 1:59:26Get that scene A. Little earlier because we're
- 1:59:27kind of past it now, but she writes.
- 1:59:30I'm sorry, I love you. Love you on the bathroom mirror.
- 1:59:33Yeah. And The thing is.
- 1:59:35I thought was cool. About the title, I'm sorry, I
- 1:59:39love you. It was like that moment at the
- 1:59:41end where she's like screaming I love you, I love you, I love
- 1:59:43you. She just keeps sitting.
- 1:59:45You can't help herself. I love you, I love you, I love
- 1:59:48you. And then I.
- 1:59:49Realized like that's also the title of the drama because she's
- 1:59:53like, I'm sorry, I love you because it's it makes it hard
- 1:59:56for you and I'm sorry, I love you because it makes it hard for
- 1:59:59me. Exactly.
- 2:00:00They were so beautiful, but they never, she never says it to that
- 2:00:02extent. To him.
- 2:00:03I'm sorry I love you, but she just is saying I love you in a
- 2:00:06way that sounds like, Dang it, I'm sorry that I love you.
- 2:00:09You know, like that's how she was saying it.
- 2:00:10Yeah. It was so good.
- 2:00:12He calls her and says Blockhead, I'm sorry, I love you.
- 2:00:15I love you. It was fine and he repeats it
- 2:00:17back to her because it's after she had.
- 2:00:19Written up on the bathroom mirror.
- 2:00:20So you know that or she knows that he saw it.
- 2:00:24Yeah, he does love her because that he didn't when she was
- 2:00:26screaming I love you, I love you.
- 2:00:27He was. Non response, like non
- 2:00:29responsive. He didn't say anything but then
- 2:00:31also when he says I was like up he's getting ready to die, you
- 2:00:33know, OK, he's almost over. I was like it's coming.
- 2:00:36So I. Vividly remember this.
- 2:00:38The final scene with. Him which is.
- 2:00:40Him on the motorcycle. Where did he get a mole?
- 2:00:43Where did he get a mole? Someone.
- 2:00:45Please tell me where did he get a motorcycle?
- 2:00:48Where did? This come from and then you see
- 2:00:50his nose. Bleeding.
- 2:00:52Profusely ripping with blood. He's got the headband on again
- 2:00:58like he did in Australia, Australia.
- 2:01:00And it's almost like a a cross world Collider.
- 2:01:03Yeah, because he's. Got the look that he had in
- 2:01:06Australia, but then he's in Korea.
- 2:01:08Yeah, on a motorcycle. On a motorcycle.
- 2:01:10God knows why do where he. Got it from Yeah.
- 2:01:13Why? I don't know.
- 2:01:14And. You assume that he crashed out.
- 2:01:17Because he was literally loose. I mean, he was dying
- 2:01:20unconscious. He was literally.
- 2:01:21Dying on the motorcycle, Yeah, and speeding.
- 2:01:23So we can only imagine what happened.
- 2:01:25But we don't get to see the actual blue.
- 2:01:27No, we don't see that carnage. It's fades to white one year
- 2:01:30later time. Jump one year.
- 2:01:32One year later, obviously, Cheyen got the.
- 2:01:35Heart, he's doing. Well, he's on television, we
- 2:01:39hear that shit story from the reporter and obviously his twin
- 2:01:44sister and the nephew are doing well.
- 2:01:46He left them a bunch of money in accounts that are in their name.
- 2:01:49And she is in Australia doing an epic rerun of their romp from
- 2:01:56when they first met. Yeah, when they first met in
- 2:01:58Australia. Yeah, she's hitting.
- 2:01:59All the highlights, all the highlights and we're getting the
- 2:02:01montages, the. Montage and you're just like, Oh
- 2:02:04my God, it's so emotional. Oh, when he dropped me off and
- 2:02:07he sold me off at the gentlemen's club.
- 2:02:09Oh, when he sold. Me in human trafficking ring and
- 2:02:14oh God. No.
- 2:02:15Come on girl, Anyway, so. She goes to his grave and the
- 2:02:20great it says I'm sorry, I love you.
- 2:02:22It says I'm sorry. I love you, cha moo hook.
- 2:02:26Literally. I couldn't contain my laughter.
- 2:02:29I had to pause because I was laughing.
- 2:02:31So hard and then get this. I had forgotten the last two
- 2:02:36minutes of the show. Oh yeah, same.
- 2:02:38Oh, same. Oh, so how did?
- 2:02:40How did you? Find this so so.
- 2:02:43I was in shock. I was in shock.
- 2:02:44I had caught I. Literally just paused it to
- 2:02:46laugh, to laugh, right to laugh. I was to be inspecting to be
- 2:02:50honest. I was in my head, I was
- 2:02:52inspecting the grave. I was like, are these real?
- 2:02:54Like, how did they? How did they feel like I was, I
- 2:02:57was, I was looking at that. Focus on that too much.
- 2:02:59And. Then when you get the voice over
- 2:03:02and I start reading, because I'm already inspecting, I'm looking
- 2:03:05at stuff on the screen and I see the subtitles come up and
- 2:03:08they're like, Korean woman found dead my grave site.
- 2:03:13I was like, what's like the real woman dead by grave?
- 2:03:17Site about that. Same one that was.
- 2:03:19Just looking at laying on the grave, the gasp that I got, I
- 2:03:23was, I was the gasp. I was that I gusp.
- 2:03:26I was with you. I was I, I've never I.
- 2:03:29Forgot that she. Committed suicide Romeo and.
- 2:03:32Juliet to join him she takes. Poison guys.
- 2:03:36Like literally straight up. Juliet she Juliet, she Juliet
- 2:03:40herself. She cheated herself up.
- 2:03:42Did you eat it herself, Julie? Eat it herself.
- 2:03:46Out of the story, it's like the end that is the that is in the
- 2:03:49final two minutes show, then credits roll and you're just.
- 2:03:53You're stuck. We didn't even mention.
- 2:03:55This. The other thing is that right
- 2:03:57before this. Our Changyun character has
- 2:04:00basically getting ready to perform his comeback show.
- 2:04:03And everybody, the whole crew is at his his show, at his
- 2:04:06performance. There's chairs set up and
- 2:04:08there's a chair. There's a chair for her.
- 2:04:09It's a chair for her. And they're all like, oh, has
- 2:04:11she? Has she come in yet?
- 2:04:12We're coming. Oh, she's yeah.
- 2:04:13She's enjoying her vacation. I don't.
- 2:04:15I must be nice to be on vacation.
- 2:04:17Like, they're talking about her. Like, we're just waiting for her
- 2:04:19to show up. And then they flash to heart,
- 2:04:22laying in Australia at a grave site, dead.
- 2:04:26They what? What they're what her?
- 2:04:29Sisters are. Also like oh I.
- 2:04:31Don't know where she. Is it your sister's died?
- 2:04:34Your sister's dead? I have crazy we.
- 2:04:37Have crazy? Guys, I'm I'm in shocks too.
- 2:04:39Because it is. It is telegraphed throughout the
- 2:04:43show. There's clues to lead you here.
- 2:04:46And still I forgot. And I forgot I forgot.
- 2:04:50I thought I. Just was picturing.
- 2:04:51Him, his motorcycle death. Correct.
- 2:04:53That's all I can really remember.
- 2:04:55Same. This ending of her laying on his
- 2:04:57gravesite and her poisoning herself.
- 2:04:59Like Juliet was like, Oh my gosh, really?
- 2:05:03Guys? Like they talk about.
- 2:05:04Yeah, like, really, we did not need.
- 2:05:07And she has a little voice over. It's like, he was so lonely.
- 2:05:10And during this life, I don't want him to be lonely even in
- 2:05:12death. So I'm.
- 2:05:13I'm basically following him out. Like that's what she says.
- 2:05:16Like I'll see myself out. I'll see myself out with him
- 2:05:19like and mind you, these and the the thing.
- 2:05:23That always gets me with these early 2000.
- 2:05:25K dramas, it's like these people are like 25 years old because
- 2:05:29they're literally they're frontal lobe has nothing they
- 2:05:31haven't. They're 242325 like they are.
- 2:05:35Killing these folks off like young I, I hate it.
- 2:05:39I hated it. I'm like, that's so sad.
- 2:05:42Like this girl? Had all her life to live and she
- 2:05:44even says that like. I'm finally get choosing
- 2:05:46something for myself. I'm finally choosing to live for
- 2:05:48myself, and that's to die. Like wait what?
- 2:05:50You're living for yourself for the first time and it's to
- 2:05:53choose. It's crazy to me that the mom
- 2:05:55never finds out I. Hated it.
- 2:05:57The mom never finds out that she had her children.
- 2:06:01Actually they did not die. She thought she would have to be
- 2:06:041 kid. I wanted to tell all to be
- 2:06:06really. Here's the thing.
- 2:06:07Here's the thing. If you were having twin.
- 2:06:08Babies, how do you? Know How do you not know?
- 2:06:11How do you don't? How do you not know you have
- 2:06:13twins? How do you not?
- 2:06:14Know that you're having twins. She didn't know.
- 2:06:16She didn't she. Carried them to term.
- 2:06:18She didn't know, she didn't. Know she did.
- 2:06:21So number. One she thought she was having
- 2:06:23one child. One child, she thought it.
- 2:06:25Was a son and it was a son. Again, how do you just wild?
- 2:06:30How did they never tell her your children actually lived?
- 2:06:34It was twins, twins and here is your biological daughter and.
- 2:06:39Here is. Your biological nephew?
- 2:06:41Never. That is another kind of cruelty
- 2:06:44that they did not. Go.
- 2:06:46Into and I think that was another reason was like the way
- 2:06:49they treated the mother. Character And it's like that was
- 2:06:52because it was not for her. It was hurtful for her to never
- 2:06:54have that. And to never know that.
- 2:06:56I don't care that she got her the son that she adopted.
- 2:07:00He got to live. I don't care, okay, I don't
- 2:07:02care. I want I want her to also know
- 2:07:05about her other two children. Yeah, what's so wrong about
- 2:07:08that? Like, even if they're both, I
- 2:07:09wanted a. Beautiful moment and the.
- 2:07:11Fact that she mourned them. She mourned her son.
- 2:07:14Yeah, she brought up the son that she lost.
- 2:07:17Exactly. Why couldn't you just hey.
- 2:07:21Good news, kids. Yeah.
- 2:07:23Some other kids, guys, yeah, she said.
- 2:07:25This because one of her big things she kept saying that was
- 2:07:27hurtful for Moohook was that when she would say like, this is
- 2:07:30my only living air, like, yeah, all I have, like, if he dies, I
- 2:07:34might as well die too, right? Well, actually you have.
- 2:07:37Other family you have other kids like you have blood walking this
- 2:07:41earth he's not even your blood you know so it's annoying yeah
- 2:07:45not to belittle like a people that are adopted adopted but in
- 2:07:48the. Context of the show tell her she
- 2:07:51has she has children children she does yeah, 'cause and that's
- 2:07:54but I do I always do like. With the heart stuff, 'cause
- 2:07:57this is also give it early 2000, like the fact that he got her
- 2:08:00son's heart Oh yeah, she actually exactly.
- 2:08:03She has her son. You know, I did like that.
- 2:08:05I'm I'm a sucker for that. You could tell that's why I like
- 2:08:08early kids. Also the female leads Dad got
- 2:08:11the punishment, the punishment he.
- 2:08:14Said he was like, I'm willing to accept any punishment.
- 2:08:16Yeah, his. Daughter.
- 2:08:16Daughter instead of dying. Yeah, your daughter dead.
- 2:08:18She ends up dying, lost her daughter.
- 2:08:20So there's that. Yeah, but but that's it.
- 2:08:24That's we're at the end of it. That was that.
- 2:08:26That was it. OK, Lola, any other thoughts?
- 2:08:30Before we get out of here. Been here a minute.
- 2:08:33I know you always keep me. You always.
- 2:08:35I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
- 2:08:37No, but I, I, yeah, I think talking.
- 2:08:39Through it again. Like again.
- 2:08:41I find so much that I appreciate about this drama and I'm glad I
- 2:08:45got to rewatch it to experience some of those big memorable, you
- 2:08:48know, memeable moments because I feel like they still make memes
- 2:08:52about them to this day in Korea, still make jokes about those
- 2:08:54moments. So experiencing it again after
- 2:08:56all these years was really nice. So I'm so glad I got to watch it
- 2:09:00again. But I definitely, it was like,
- 2:09:02it's still not my favorite story by far.
- 2:09:05Wouldn't go out of my way to really recommend it.
- 2:09:08If you No, that's not unless you wanna cry.
- 2:09:11Unless you want the melodrama. Unless you want the over the
- 2:09:14top, then it's perfect and there's some moments you will
- 2:09:18laugh and there's some moments that you.
- 2:09:19Shouldn't be laughing, but you will laugh.
- 2:09:21You will laugh, but I think and even.
- 2:09:24How they did. The comparison with the adoption
- 2:09:27in Korea versus adoption of someone who went, you know,
- 2:09:30overseas as in Australia. So I thought that was also
- 2:09:33interesting to show that comparison as well.
- 2:09:35So yeah, it was a experience. It was 100%.
- 2:09:40I'm like overheated Lola. I know you always get overheated
- 2:09:43when I started yelling at the end.
- 2:09:45That's how you know, you know, you know, Lola, where can people
- 2:09:49find you online? So I am.
